- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. A Pharia of the ninth Sunday after Pentecost, July 30 in the year of our Lord, 2026.
- 0:22Commemorated today, Abden and Senan, born in Persia, were arrested and taken to Rome under the Emperor Valyrian. They were scourged with cords, weighted with lead, and beheaded. This was in the middle of the third century.
- 0:47In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The Introit. Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth.
- 1:11O Lord, my protector, save me, O God, by thy name and deliver me in thy strength. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning, is now and will be, through all ages of ages. Amen. Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth, O Lord, my protector.
- 1:56The Collect, let us pray. Let thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy suppliant people, and that thou mayest grant their desire to those that seek, make them ask such things as please thee. A commemoration of saints Abden and Senan. O God, who didst endow thy saints Abden and Senan with abundant gifts of grace, and so bring them to their present glory. Grant to thy servants pardon of their sins, that through the merits and intercession of thy saints, they may deserve freedom from all adversity through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages.
- 2:59Amen. A lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Brethren, we were not to set our hearts as some of them set their hearts, on forbidden things. You were not to turn idolatrous, as some of them did. So we read, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to take their pleasure.
- 3:34We were not to commit fornication as some of them committed fornication when 23,000 of them were killed in one day. We were not to try the patience of Christ as some of them tried it, the men who were slain by the serpents. Nor were you to complain as some of them complained till the destroying angel slew them. When all this happened to them it was a symbol. The record of it was written as a warning to us in whom history has reached its fulfillment.
- 4:19And it means that he who thinks he stands firmly should beware of a fall. I pray that no temptation may come upon you that is beyond man's strength. Not that God will play you false. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your powers. Within the temptation itself, he will ordain the issue of it and enable you to hold your own.
- 4:50The gradual. O Lord, our Lord, how admirable is thy name in the whole earth, for thy magnificence is elevated above the heavens. Alleluia. Alleluia. Deliver me from mine enemies, O God, and defend me from them that rise up against me.
- 5:16Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time as Jesus drew near and caught sight of the city, he wept over it and said, if thou too couldst understand above all in this day that is granted thee the ways that can bring thee peace, as it is, they are hidden from thy sight. The days will come upon thee when thy enemies will fence thee round about, and encircle thee, and press thee hard on every side, and bring down and ruin both thee and thy children that are in thee, not leaving one stone of thee upon another, and all because thou didst not recognize the time of my visiting thee. Then he went into the temple and began driving out those who sold and bought there.
- 6:24It is written, he told them, My house is a house of prayer, and you have made it into a den of thieves. And he taught in the temple daily. The offertory. How plain are the duties which the Lord enjoins, the treasure of a man's heart, and his awards sweeter than the honey dripping from its comb. By these I thy servant live.
- 7:01The secret. Grant to us we beseech thee, O Lord, that we may worthily frequent these mysteries. For as often as the memorial of this victim is celebrated, the work of our redemption is wrought through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The secret.
- 7:37Grant to us, we beseech thee, O Lord, that we may worthily frequent these mysteries. For as often as the memorial of this victim is celebrated, the work of our redemption is wrought. A commemoration of Saints Abden and Sinon. We beseech thee, O Lord, that this sacrifice which we offer in memory of the natal day of thy holy martyrs may loosen the bonds of our sins and obtain for us the gifts of thy mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 8:32The common preface: Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 9:36Hosanna in the highest. The communion. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives continually in me, and I in him, says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 10:02May the communion of thy sacrament we beseech thee, O Lord, bring us cleansing and grant us unity. A commemoration of Saints Abidin and Senan. By the working of this mystery, O Lord, may our sins be purged away and through the intercession of thy holy martyrs Abden and Senan, may our righteous desires be filled through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost.
- 10:57Amen. Let us bless the lord. Saint Abden, pray for us. Saint Sinan, pray for us.
