- 0:00Ultimate achievement meaning reaching a new level because of.
- 0:02He's reaching the highest possible level for a person or a
- 0:05nation to, to to achieve. OK, he was holding at that point
- 0:10and therefore for good reasons. And therefore he asked Asha from
- 0:12the scion. So he's giving you the Scion,
- 0:13which you couldn't handle. Did you have handled that new
- 0:15Scion? No.
- 0:16OK, so I won't have asked for it.
- 0:18Though, OK, so OK, there's a criticism there, but which I'm
- 0:21not addressing. Let's take dove in a mouth, for
- 0:23example. OK, so dove in a mouth, I'm
- 0:25about Java, right? So if you look at the Sukhim,
- 0:28OK, if you look at the actual text, he did something quite I I
- 0:33don't know what the right word is, but quite evil.
- 0:35What do what do I advise? Because that that's that is
- 0:38critical. You can't have any discussion
- 0:43about, you know, the greatest legacy of the Jewish people
- 0:49without understanding you shine. Hello everyone.
- 0:56Today we're joined by Rabbi Arne Witnessstee, the style and
- 1:00methodology of learning Bible studies.
- 1:03So Tara Anaf is a very difficult thing to master for ABBA
- 1:07Winstein has made his life mission in order to master that.
- 1:10He is a well known Tara scholar. He's a tanaf expert and he's a
- 1:14historian. He's lectured in the Mira Shiva,
- 1:15Tara Shraga and many shows internationally.
- 1:18He has a podcast called the Jewish History Uncensored
- 1:21podcast and we are really pleased to have him on the show
- 1:23today to share with us his methodology of learning Tanaf as
- 1:26well. Answer some kind of critical
- 1:28questions that we have on certain events that happened
- 1:31with the TADA. Enjoy.
- 1:33Ravi Wittenstein. Sean, we're welcome.
- 1:35Robbie Dorfman spend some time. Yeah, spend some time.
- 1:38I'm sure we both have an age today, right?
- 1:40We have what? I'm sure we both have none aged
- 1:42today. Oh, definitely not.
- 1:43There we go. Definitely not.
- 1:45So I want to start off with a story that it's something that
- 1:48you said that I overheard and I've maybe used it 1000 times.
- 1:52OK, don't worry, it's going to be good.
- 1:54But there was someone that had some question on Rashi's
- 1:59commentary on Tanakh and he asked like, why did like, why is
- 2:03he bringing this madrish? And then you said, I don't, I
- 2:06don't understand. Do you think like Rashi was?
- 2:08Let's set the picture. He's in France and it's dark and
- 2:11there's a dimly lit table and there's 1000 Midrashian in front
- 2:15of him. And Rashi just went this one and
- 2:17that one, right, and to show how deep Brushes Parish is.
- 2:20So I'm excited to talk to you about the way we're supposed to
- 2:23look at Tanakh and the way we're supposed to be looking at
- 2:26commentaries as well. I'm going to start off by saying
- 2:28that the way that I look at it is that our understanding of
- 2:32Tanakh has been to three different slices. 1 is what the
- 2:35Tanakh literally says. 2 is how the sages, how Hazal actually
- 2:39look at Tanakh. They actually look at the Bible.
- 2:41And then there are the we show them the medieval commentaries
- 2:45and post medieval commentaries. We have some go into
- 2:47commentaries. OK, but and I would I really put
- 2:50them in three different categories.
- 2:52OK, so how do you think that we should be treating them?
- 2:55Because if you look at Tanakh through the lens of, shall we
- 2:58say, Rashi, you'll get a very different impression.
- 3:01And if you were just look at Uncle us, or if you were just
- 3:04translate to Nah word for word and to your, you know, mother
- 3:08tongue language. So why don't you go over these
- 3:10three categories and how you think we should be looking at
- 3:12them in general and what their objectives were?
- 3:14OK, so let me first repeat what you said to make sure I'm
- 3:18addressing the right thing. We have the text.
- 3:22We have the Midrasham Hazal slash Madrasham, the Draat ship,
- 3:26including Gamar's is non egotedness.
- 3:29And then then we have Rishadam and Afran that that that and and
- 3:34what's the difference in how do we, you know, you know, the text
- 3:38might tell us one thing that Khazam might say something a
- 3:41little different seemingly. And then we shown them and each
- 3:45one's going to have their own approach, sort of.
- 3:49So OK, here, here's here's what I here's one of my, you know,
- 3:54foundational ideas. It took a long time to come up
- 3:57with this. It took a long time.
- 4:01That means 20 to 30 years. Tanakh is by definition, Tara
- 4:06Shivakhsav, written terror. And the entirety of the story is
- 4:12never told. Never.
- 4:16That's how it is. It's terror, Shivakhsav.
- 4:19It's written terror. Written terror doesn't tell you
- 4:22the whole story you have, and that's very intentional.
- 4:27Now, some of it is linguistic. What do you mean by not telling
- 4:30the whole story? Meaning yeah, we don't know what
- 4:31happened. There are huge, huge gaps, for
- 4:33example, in most revenue's life. Is that what you mean or, or or
- 4:36was there more critical to the story that was on purpose left
- 4:39out for us to mine later? Like what do you mean not the
- 4:41whole story? Story Story is told in a vague
- 4:44fashion, which which is specifically given over to
- 4:47interpretation. Let let me just step back and
- 4:49give you sort of a example that I I've given many times.
- 4:52And this is what I've been saying for close to 20 years
- 4:54because I remember the first guys I told it to and target
- 4:56Shraga. And this is my 19th year and
- 4:59target Shraga for the records. So that's pushing 20 years ago
- 5:03in English, undefined modifiers are big no, no's.
- 5:08You do not. You do not say he, she, it,
- 5:11they, him, her when it's not clear who you're talking about.
- 5:15Now, I don't remember. I remember what year it was
- 5:18because I remember the guys, we had a puzzic with four or five
- 5:22undefined modifiers and they weren't all going on the same
- 5:26person. And that is, that is just, I
- 5:30mean, that's partially linguistic, but it's also
- 5:33partially because Tara wants us to be involved.
- 5:37And the place we see this most clearly from, at least to me, is
- 5:41from the one of the first rushes in Tahlem.
- 5:44Where, where it says, where the pusk over there says it says
- 5:50it's good for but he loves teres Hashem, the terrazo.
- 5:57Yeah, Gayomo. So Rashi says it starts out
- 6:00calling it teres Hashem, God's Terra, and then it ends up
- 6:03calling it Teresao is Terra. So Rashi brings us in.
- 6:07Pretty sure it's a Gemara. Rashi rings.
- 6:08Rashi says that, but before Atamakotham works on that, works
- 6:13on it, it's Hashem's terror and after he works on it, it says on
- 6:16terror because we have to be part of it.
- 6:19We have to be part of it. Now when just to like sort of
- 6:22add on to that, about a year and a half ago I finished.
- 6:27I finished and welcomed Dereyamom together.
- 6:29That was a long hard project. The parish that says Rashi on
- 6:35Dereyamom is not Rashi. A very fascinating, you know,
- 6:42some of it is utterly brilliant and some of it like makes no
- 6:45sense at all. Like like Mamish makes no sense
- 6:47at all. And but just based on that, I I
- 6:52came up with the following, you know, like slogan of sorts.
- 6:57You have to understand the process.
- 7:00You have to you respect the process and then you'd be part
- 7:04of the process. That's Teresa Shimta Rosa.
- 7:07When you have it down, then you're able to do that.
- 7:11So the ultimate example of this is Rashi, because this person
- 7:16who lived not that much longer after Rashi tried and he's just
- 7:20some of his things are just like past left.
- 7:22Feel like, you know, I'll give you an example.
- 7:24I hope this won't confuse the the, the everyone out there.
- 7:27The story is it's really a haftarah.
- 7:30It's a haftarah. I think Haftarah Kaisarah of of
- 7:37I'm Adoni Abdun Khagi. So I think that's after I saw
- 7:40it. So after of Naveen Rishonav that
- 7:42we read every year. I'm a little less tolerant of
- 7:45people who know nothing about it.
- 7:47Yeah. Naveen Macronum, they don't get
- 7:48it. I get it via macronum's hard.
- 7:50I got that, I got that. But Naveen Rishonum, it's a
- 7:52story. Come on, Just just pay
- 7:53attention. Read it once at least before you
- 7:55do it every year. Anyway, cancer it it talks about
- 7:59Adoni Abdun Khagi is attempting to become king and Aviosar was
- 8:04trying to help him because he was from Vinay Ailey and he knew
- 8:08that he's going to get being get gotten rid of.
- 8:10OK, it didn't work. Whatever, whatever, whatever.
- 8:13Sudo Rashi in the very end of Deraya Yemen says that that if
- 8:18Yasser was Moshe Adonia bin Haggis with Shamani Mishra and
- 8:22that's like against the steamer of shots in five places.
- 8:26It means he was he was having this to be the Shamayan.
- 8:28I mean it like then when Shlomo sort of half forgives him, he
- 8:33forgives him basically says you'd have to stay outside of
- 8:35your shrine because you were close with my father, but I'm
- 8:38not going to kill you. I'm not going to kill him.
- 8:40He was my chef. He was he was my own shipment on
- 8:42Mishra. You're not going to kill him.
- 8:45That that's the ultimate, the ultimate Merida, the ultimate
- 8:49misappropriation, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
- 8:51It's like, oh, it's a wild statement.
- 8:53Yeah, there's 20 plus statements like that.
- 8:55And after when I finished that all up, I, I, I, I had AI said
- 9:00sure on that one too. And you were upset because you
- 9:02felt that Rashi's claim was baseless.
- 9:04It's not Rashi, it's pseudo Rashi.
- 9:05I don't know who pseudo Rashi. Hey Rashi, that Rashi would
- 9:07never say something crazy like that.
- 9:09Without a source. Without a source.
- 9:10We'll, we'll see. One of the, one of the other
- 9:14places where we see Rashi's subtlety is in almost every case
- 9:20that I'm aware of, there's the Madrish.
- 9:23And Rashi never quotes the Madrish verbatim.
- 9:26Yeah, he always modifies. And you have to think about it.
- 9:29You have to be involved and think about it.
- 9:32And then you with that, you can figure out what Rashi wants to
- 9:34do. So, OK, so this is this is what
- 9:38I call this is, you know, this is, this is, you know, this is
- 9:42Rashi in terms of the in terms of of his Mahalakshad.
- 9:49OK, Madrigal, what do we do with Madrigal?
- 9:53Sometimes Madrigal seem to be saying things very differently
- 9:56than than the so 1 answer is many times it is sadar Drush.
- 10:04It's not sadar. I'll give you, I'll give you an
- 10:06example. I'll give you an example.
- 10:10Kirish de Bonim, Arkansas Hoover Kirish de national person has
- 10:14two wives. He has two wives and one loves
- 10:18one and hates the other one. And the hated one has the bachor
- 10:21has the oldest son, says Loya Lavaca.
- 10:24He can't, he can't make the beloved wife's son the bachor.
- 10:28He has to make the the younger, he has to make the he has to
- 10:31make the older wife. Who's Snuer the bachor.
- 10:33Now the Gemara says in Yavamis he is Snuer Ahuva Snow.
- 10:39Now Malcolm is is it possible that Hashem Kavyako hate
- 10:42somebody Alam Isaac the Kumar the question Good morning Evams.
- 10:47The Kumar says no because this is ahuva benisuwaha and snua
- 10:50benisuwaha. This one the the snua is a Javi
- 10:55ravan and the ahuva is is a woman who's allowed to marry.
- 10:58That's what the Kumar says. Now OK, yeah, that's a good one.
- 11:01That's a good one. Now Rashi doesn't bring that
- 11:03Kumar, you know that. And in my opinion, the reason
- 11:06why is Rashi understands that said that because really Ahuvan
- 11:10Snoo is not going on Hashem, it's going on, it's going on the
- 11:13guy, it's going on the guy. And and and actually interesting
- 11:16you over there says Ahuva Ahuva Mamash, snooze, snooze Mamash.
- 11:19Something says, oh, he's being called Khazal.
- 11:21Well, Rashi Khazal Khazal didn't say that.
- 11:25He said that rush. So don't ask me cashes.
- 11:27Don't ask cashes like that so. OK, fine.
- 11:31So that's the first. That's the first stage, that
- 11:33first stage. OK, so then, so then I'll
- 11:34already stop you there. What is Hazal doing?
- 11:37What are our sages doing? Giving us understandings of the
- 11:39Pasak which are not concretely true.
- 11:43So I have a mahalo here, but I'm not I'm here.
- 11:45For you, what are Hazal? What are Hazal doing when they
- 11:47say something you that's not? You quoted me Agamar and Yavamas
- 11:50and it's not what the Pasak really means.
- 11:52OK, so that so. That so that you know the
- 11:55answer. The answer is, in my opinion,
- 11:58that it's, you know, Chuttu Shumikra has deep importance and
- 12:04I don't think anyone's held on that.
- 12:06We could argue about what's chuttu shumikra, but the Chuttu
- 12:09shumikra has important. So maybe some people are calling
- 12:12when Khazar saying there drush. It's it's I mean, there's two
- 12:15types of drush. Sometimes Drush, sometimes Drush
- 12:19is when, when that when they're sort of they're they're
- 12:24learning, they're learning. Derek Ramez, the pasic says
- 12:27something and the chat says one thing.
- 12:29The basic understanding says one thing, but the terminology is a
- 12:32little harsh or unnecessary. Like Gohuva and Snua, like, who
- 12:36cares? OK, it sort of makes a
- 12:38difference, but it doesn't really make a difference.
- 12:41And, and therefore Derek Drush, they're going to understand that
- 12:44it's a reference to something else that is not not in shot.
- 12:47It's a reference. But in Derek Drush's references,
- 12:49Rashi says numerous places and time and, and, and, and you
- 12:53know, the, the, the, the nature of terror, the nature of terror
- 12:57is that there's multiple level ideas being expressed.
- 13:02And that's all good. OK, Rash is coming to to explain
- 13:06shot sort of clear, sort of clear.
- 13:08Let me say, let me say it back. You're saying that the, the
- 13:11Terror is giving you a it's setting the stage and you're
- 13:16watching the play, but there are nuances in the performance.
- 13:20And what Hazal are doing is they're picking up on those
- 13:22nuances and saying, yes, Tora when it's talking about Hoovah
- 13:25and Snewa, we're talking about the, the, the husband in regards
- 13:28to his wife's. But there's a nuance here,
- 13:30right? And let us set a new stage like
- 13:32the, the behind the scenes scenes.
- 13:34It's almost like a deleted scene, something like that,
- 13:35which is never that God is talking to these, these women
- 13:39and and there's the following law or idea that's supposed to
- 13:43be derived from things. So it's not a lie, but yeah, but
- 13:48what it is, but what it is, is it's saying like there, there
- 13:50is, there's a nod to another idea and and it's another
- 13:53reality that we're also explaining and it's also true.
- 13:58OK. I mean, OK is that is that
- 14:00basically basically look there is sometimes where.
- 14:03Was I right or wrong? Yes.
- 14:04I will. I would basically agree with
- 14:06that. And the reason why I'm
- 14:07emphasizing basically is that that is, you know, when we're
- 14:13saying something's being said, Derek Drush, it's it's sometimes
- 14:19it's not, you know, you're like sort of oversimplifying.
- 14:22You say those past successes, then what the Hell's out doing?
- 14:25So the the answer is is, is is again, is there's it's it's not,
- 14:30it's not really, it's not. There's a contradiction between
- 14:34the drush and the chap per SE. No, there is, but there's not.
- 14:36Wait a second, there is, there's not.
- 14:38And what I mean by that is what I mean by that is, is the is
- 14:41that the is that the is that the drush sometimes is connected to
- 14:48the narrative to what's going on, and other times, other times
- 14:52it's main anasmach that that, you know, it says something, it
- 14:56says something and and and Khazam are saying an idea which
- 15:01not in basic understanding is related, but it is it's you
- 15:08know, it's it's a true SH. You know, I'm not sure if I can
- 15:10think on the spot. A good example for this one
- 15:12where they're saying something that the word says X and they're
- 15:16let's see if I can remember this.
- 15:17Just just wait a second. Tom.
- 15:19My nephew told me some piece recently ish which I can't
- 15:24match. By Avramovino.
- 15:26A second. By Avramovino.
- 15:30Yeah. OK.
- 15:31OK. That's that, that, you know, I'm
- 15:35not sure if this is a good habit or a bad habit.
- 15:37And that is that if I know someone talks about it
- 15:40extensively and I can't remember it, I get hesitant to open my
- 15:44mouth. So there's a lot of discussion
- 15:46how you understand? Yeah.
- 15:49When we took Abraham took his honey Hove.
- 15:52So Rashi brings it to Eliezer, who's gematry the same thing.
- 15:56I believe the morale over there says that it's it, It doesn't
- 16:01mean there weren't 200 and whatever it was who were with
- 16:03them. It's it's just that Eliezer was
- 16:06the ultimate Talmud of rum and the Pasak is hinting to it.
- 16:10Derek. Derek Kamatria, I'm pretty sure.
- 16:12Let let, let me, let me say this whole thing in a very different
- 16:15way, OK? And and flush that a bit more.
- 16:19What I think you're saying and this is something that I
- 16:21personally believe. So you're going to correct me if
- 16:24you don't agree. This is that there's a concrete
- 16:27story, there's a concrete narrative, and the Torah tells
- 16:30you those things. The Torah, again, is setting,
- 16:32setting the stage. However, if a person's going to
- 16:36live only in the world, which is something that they can see and
- 16:40touch, then they're missing a very large part of the story,
- 16:43right? So, for example, OK, a person
- 16:47thinks about doing an avera. This is the common example that
- 16:51I give people when they ask me this question, OK?
- 16:53A person thinks about sleeping with someone else's wife, OK,
- 16:56which is something that they should not do, OK.
- 16:58And and then one could ask, did that person sleep with that
- 17:02person's wife? And the answer is no.
- 17:04Well, concretely, no. But in a form, yes, yes, they
- 17:06absolutely did. Because there is an aspect of
- 17:08reality which is what's going on in their mind when they took
- 17:11that woman and they slept with her, which is a horrible thing,
- 17:13right? So, so just because something
- 17:15doesn't concretely happen, right, doesn't mean that it's
- 17:18not true. So, so Hazal, when they make a
- 17:21drush, they're they're they, they could be saying, I
- 17:23understand this is the, the, the, the push up shot, the
- 17:26simple understanding of the pusick.
- 17:27And that really happened, of course, but there's another
- 17:29layer. But and that layer can be
- 17:31understood either in an abstract sense, OK, which is this is the
- 17:35message that we're giving off and here's a narrative or a
- 17:37story to explain it, or no, there was another story that
- 17:39also concretely happened at the same time.
- 17:41You're just not aware of it, OK. And that's how Jerusalem are
- 17:43kind of split up. Would that be accurate?
- 17:46Yes, I like that and I'll I'll give you a quote what I consider
- 17:49an utterly classic example of this says by Shimshen.
- 17:52But he told him the Vesa sur Hazal say that quotes.
- 17:56I'm going to quote the Khazal. I mean, I'm not going to get it
- 17:58perfectly right because the two cameras whatever Nosfara middle
- 18:04of this year, it says that the police, the police have brought
- 18:06their wives to him and they were Miss Aber and they became
- 18:09pregnant. That seems to say the police was
- 18:12the assumption was just like, you know, having a good time,
- 18:15good time. I don't know what you want to
- 18:16call it. You know, Kilo, there's a
- 18:19problem and the problem is, is he Davins afterwards and Hashem
- 18:26gives him back his strength and his strength was absolutely
- 18:31miraculous. And to synopsize the way I
- 18:34understand the Rambad and I really don't believe there's any
- 18:36other way to understand it, but I this is my opinion.
- 18:40When the Rambad talks about nisi nistaram, you know, we think
- 18:44miracles mean inexplicable action act that there's no logic
- 18:48to it all. And that's how an Ness Mr. is
- 18:50there's logic, there's Rukhmi logic, and the Rukhmi logic has
- 18:54to do with the close connection that Sadiq has to Hashem and the
- 18:59normative of the the Huque Hatava natural law will be bent
- 19:04for the Sonic. So if Shimsha has been given
- 19:07back his strength, then he clearly can't be being over
- 19:10isurim. But mysa, you know, active
- 19:13isurim over and over and over just doesn't makes no sense at
- 19:15all. It's not going to listen to his
- 19:16twila lmi. It means, you know, Kilo, he had
- 19:23an inappropriate, you know, psychologically inappropriate
- 19:27relationships with priesty women in modern terminology.
- 19:31They brought their wives to him and he gave them good, you know,
- 19:35good therapy. But he was too emotionally
- 19:37close. And for Shimshen, who's
- 19:40connected to that's called being, that's called as if he
- 19:45slept with them because it doesn't really say it just hints
- 19:47to it. I think that's an excellent
- 19:49example. I love that it's also an
- 19:51important aspect of of of infidelity.
- 19:54Also not there's there's physical infidelity, but there's
- 19:57absolutely psychological. Emotionally, yes.
- 19:59Emotionally, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 20:01OK, fine. So that's that's that.
- 20:02So that's Tanakh. That's Khazal.
- 20:05OK, And what about when we bridge over to the Rishonim?
- 20:07Suddenly what's happening there? What's their objective?
- 20:09Because I would think the Sages did a pretty darn good job.
- 20:12They know what they're doing. They've explained not only what
- 20:15the critical text is saying, for example, like Uncleis, although
- 20:18you might argue with me in a few points.
- 20:20And then we have the offshoots, the the things that we should
- 20:23also be understanding from the plastics.
- 20:24So what are the we shown coming to do?
- 20:26All the work has already been done.
- 20:28OK. If you have target Munculus and
- 20:31this is the OC, OK, the midrashem, yeah, let me step
- 20:34back. Midrashem are are not
- 20:37systematically going through the psukum der shot.
- 20:43So it's right, we have a lot of midrashem, but that doesn't
- 20:46necessarily tell me what shot is Munculus.
- 20:50No one could tell me the uncle is not a parish Alderak.
- 20:54Upshot. Now there are people who like to
- 20:56claim that Rashi's not. And about a year ago, a year and
- 21:01change ago, I, I, I, I, I recorded a podcast on it and I
- 21:05walked back into the best of British and Gross, Chris
- 21:08Tertraga. And guess who was there and then
- 21:11other than Romero Tiorsky. And I was late and I knew if I
- 21:16talked to him, it's going to take at least 5 minutes, if not
- 21:1815. But it was like one of these
- 21:20opportunities that if I don't take that I'm not going to get.
- 21:23I said to him, I asked him did he ever hear from his
- 21:26grandfather from Salvagic anything about is Rashi Mufar
- 21:29shall die. I'm shocked.
- 21:30See a lot of people like to try to bring Araya, try to prove
- 21:33from the Rashi in the beginning from the rash bomb.
- 21:35Excuse me, the beginning of the Asia where the rash bomb says
- 21:38where the rash bomb says that that Rashi admitted he's not
- 21:41getting saying quotes the most posh and most simple
- 21:44understanding. So he told me back.
- 21:47Oh yeah, I heard, my grandfather told me.
- 21:50That it is a shot. That Rashi is absolutely a shot
- 21:53and he doesn't understand why Rashi was made to.
- 21:57Why did Rashi admit to the to the Rash bomb?
- 21:59OK. OK, now, now I told him, I I'll
- 22:03tell you, I'm going to go. Let's go through the whole
- 22:05story. I I've been like, he's a
- 22:06Brisker. So you know, that's how Brisker
- 22:08say things. I've spent a long time in the
- 22:10mirror, Shiva. So I say things Derek Mir and I
- 22:13say you didn't read the Rash bomb carefully.
- 22:16It's not that Rashbaum said to Rashi Zaida.
- 22:19You know that your your parish is not Derakhshat.
- 22:23And he said back to me and he said back to me, Shmelka, you're
- 22:27right. You know, that's what you need
- 22:30to do. He says Nisfakakhdi Lofanov Ito
- 22:34or Emo Lofanov. And after the Vikua, Rashi was
- 22:39Maida so so Rashi thought he was saying Derakhshat.
- 22:44And again the synthesis of Khazal and Pshat is
- 22:50unparalleled. No one came close to Rashi.
- 22:54No one is that Ramban says in his opening piece on on homage.
- 22:59He says on Rashi Mukhtar Ben Musa.
- 23:03Rashi's achievement is unparalleled.
- 23:05So what you're saying is that is that what, what the Rishana
- 23:07we're trying to do is create some level, not all of them, for
- 23:09example, like that, but doesn't necessarily but but that there's
- 23:12trying to be a synthesis between the bridge of Hazel and the,
- 23:17the, the shot itself. And they're trying to give you
- 23:20sort of a lens which incorporate both of them and there's just
- 23:22different levels of doing that. Complicated.
- 23:25I I don't need every every parish meaning just.
- 23:27What's the goal? OK, what's the goal?
- 23:29So most, most Rishonov are riding.
- 23:31When I talk about Mr. Rishonov, I mean Rashi Raban, Ibn Ezra,
- 23:35this Swano is borderline what's called the Swano Rishon.
- 23:38Also, I see the Arachaim is an A chronic echo of the Rampan.
- 23:44Now, it's very true that by the people at large know all the
- 23:49ones which are kabbalistic drush.
- 23:53But if you go through the Orchheim regularly, and I don't
- 23:55really do that, but I do go through it a lot, a nice, a nice
- 23:59amount, you'll see that that that a large amount of his pay
- 24:03rush is like Mama shot Mama, like, you know, in the trenches.
- 24:07So they're all trying to understand the what is judicial
- 24:12Micra basically. Now it's an important factor,
- 24:16which is very critically important to remember.
- 24:19You know, there's a shot in the pusick, there's a shot in the
- 24:24parsha, there's a shot in the in the group of parshaus and
- 24:29there's a shot in the Saifa. Now when I say parsha, I mean
- 24:34when you open up a Tanakh and there's pays there, that's what
- 24:38I I'm not talking about partial sachavua, I'm talking about.
- 24:41Sukhas and stumas I got. You sukhas and stumas OK.
- 24:45The Rishan who is most concerned with smoothness of partial flow,
- 24:54partial single, partial double multiple partial safer flow is
- 24:58Rashi When I I just finished Yoshai by Nakyomi and I spent
- 25:03or. Wednesday, I'm going to push you
- 25:04more. What is the goal of the Rashona
- 25:06when they're explaining it enough?
- 25:08OK, what again? They are trying to, according to
- 25:13their understanding, come up with a coherent understanding of
- 25:19what's going on, especially Rashi.
- 25:21But but but because. This someone, someone, someone.
- 25:24So let me let me flesh it out a little.
- 25:27And the Yeshaya examples are too complicated to for me.
- 25:30To I just don't even know what you're saying.
- 25:32Like in light of synthesis, I can translate Hebrew just fine,
- 25:35so I know need their own bottom. Now what are they doing?
- 25:37OK, OK. OK OK OK.
- 25:40In the yeshaya I found around 30 to 40 examples of this where I
- 25:46have a pusic and if I just read this pusic I would come to 1
- 25:50conclusion. But then when I go through the
- 25:52rest of the parsha or when I take the safer in mind, if I
- 25:57learn this the most simplistic way and I run into problems and
- 26:02connecting it to what's going on.
- 26:03And because of that, I mean, 1 of it was it's an utterly
- 26:07classic example. I think it's in in in designer
- 26:10class. But it's, I get, I'm, you know,
- 26:12whoever wants to get in contact with me can and I'm happy to
- 26:15give you the Mama Comus and send you this year, as I say, where
- 26:19Rashi learns it's speaking about Kriskia.
- 26:22The partial before was speaking about Akaz the red dock in the
- 26:28in. Ezra therefore learned that this
- 26:29pusic which is following that parasha is speaking about Akas.
- 26:33The problem is is then when you go through the rest of the
- 26:35bazookum, you're going to have to make up a lot of stories
- 26:39about Akas that never happened. It just, it's crazy If you
- 26:43learned it speaking about Fiskia, then all those vague
- 26:47references fit with known stories in Tanakh and some of
- 26:51them guests only really madrasa. But in Khalsa, Rashi understands
- 26:54in the totem of looking of everything.
- 26:57When I want to make this make sense, it's easiest for me to do
- 27:00it that way rather than go and make up stories that don't exist
- 27:04at all. Like let me give you a different
- 27:06example. Like I'm not sure if I should do
- 27:08this, but I'm going to do it anyway.
- 27:11There's no question that Devin ML has the greatest after the
- 27:15Office, the greatest hero of Tanakh, nothing to talk about.
- 27:18Why? So some people try to make all
- 27:21sorts of, you know, postmodern, modern postmodern projections
- 27:25about what his greatness was. The answer is very simply, he is
- 27:29the author of Sheena in the base of Mingush, The Sheena coming
- 27:33into the base of Mingush. She's the author of that.
- 27:35It's relatively clearly hinted to in the narrative, not
- 27:38explicit, of course. So what, you want to go make up
- 27:40stories that make no sense at all and didn't make any sense in
- 27:42time? You're entitled to your opinion.
- 27:45It's the modern world. We can't stop people from
- 27:47talking, but if you want to understand why Khazar insists
- 27:50the Devid who Devid was, who Devid is, it all has to do.
- 27:54It all has to do with his with with his accomplishments of
- 27:57Sheena. So again, I haven't.
- 27:59I'm not. I see you don't quote finally
- 28:00yet. I want Tanaka, especially Rashi,
- 28:04the Rambana Kulmush wants this also.
- 28:06I want the narrative to flow right now, and when I do that,
- 28:13because every detail's not there, very Dafka, very
- 28:17specifically, I'm going to have to add into the story.
- 28:21How do I do that? So it's not, again, it's not
- 28:25that Rashi is like opening up 47 Madrasha and saying how can I
- 28:29get everyone's attention today? He's certainly not doing that,
- 28:32but but he is because the story is lacking critical detail and
- 28:39you can't, again, the dubbed example is a great example.
- 28:41Like what did he do? Why is he so great?
- 28:43Every single king at me. He wasn't like dubbed.
- 28:45Oh, this one was like dubbed, like what?
- 28:47What did he do? So it's, it's, it's, it's
- 28:52clarity and flow through synthesis.
- 28:54Yes, correct. And that's what the primary
- 28:56objective of. Definitely of Rashi in the
- 28:58Rumba. Definitely Rashi in the Rambam.
- 29:00They've been Ezra in the Rundown.
- 29:02OK. Yeah, OK.
- 29:03But they're more OTC difference in how they looked at it in
- 29:06general the same. So you'd say the same like so
- 29:08Rashi either on Bond or Haim? Sworno basically.
- 29:12Sworno basically, yeah. So their their objective
- 29:15cliucker, right. So their objective is going to
- 29:17be let's get flow with the synthesis.
- 29:19Right, Well, no. Cliucker is more drush I I don't
- 29:22really. I very rarely dabble in it, I
- 29:24find it to be more dark drush and I know most for.
- 29:27The sake of that or or you know what I'm saying, Like I.
- 29:29Don't know. No, I'm not a I'm not.
- 29:30You know, I know. It sounds good.
- 29:31You don't like you don't want Cleonca regularly.
- 29:33No, I don't. I do a little bit occasionally.
- 29:36Some of the famous ones I love. Cleonca.
- 29:37But I know a lot of people. Love but OK, but OK, but so so
- 29:40the majority, the majority of the famous medieval commentaries
- 29:42are going to be is going to be understanding through synthesis.
- 29:44Yeah, that's what I believe. That's what I believe.
- 29:46OK, great. Now, now we can push on to to
- 29:52further things. So number one, I find it
- 29:54fascinating that you could have rash in there and bond then
- 29:57start separating or being completely sometimes an opposite
- 30:00sides of the team even though they have the same goal.
- 30:02But it makes sense. Yes it does.
- 30:03Right, because they're trying to get create their own, their own
- 30:06view of what's considered a flow.
- 30:09How are we supposed to understand then certain certain
- 30:13stories that we have in TANF which seem to be so opposite to
- 30:19what Hazal or some of the medieval commentaries are trying
- 30:22to say about this particular Mysim?
- 30:24So let's take Dovet and Malik for example.
- 30:26OK, So Dovet and Malik and Botjava, right?
- 30:28So if you look at the Bosokim, OK, if you look at the actual
- 30:31text, he did something quite I, I don't know what the right word
- 30:36is, but quite evil in regards to Botjava.
- 30:39If you just look at the at the Bosokim and yeah, but you look
- 30:42at Hazel, you get a very different impression.
- 30:44So. So how do you understand that
- 30:46Devon and Bachava? Devon Bachava OK, don't isolate
- 30:51the story for the rest of Dovan. You isolating the story.
- 30:56No, he can be amazing, but no, no, let's isolate the story.
- 31:00What did? He do with what did he do about
- 31:01Shava? OK, so I mean what did he do the
- 31:08you know there is a major mahogas between Rashi and all
- 31:13the Rishonim and Suvastav Tess and a couple of other places.
- 31:18Was it get out tonight or was it get come on?
- 31:20Even if it was a get out tonight, this is not a
- 31:22fantastic. Story OK, OK the see again we
- 31:28have to I'll. Make it better everyone.
- 31:30So I'll make the question easier.
- 31:32You tell me what happened with. How about, OK, OK, what
- 31:37happened? I mean, the story is crazy
- 31:39story. Like what's going on?
- 31:40You know, he's sitting there on his roof and the story story
- 31:42makes practically enough sense in terms of Tana and the reason
- 31:45it makes the least amount of sense.
- 31:46Wait a second. We'll be there in a second.
- 31:48The reason why it makes the least amount of sense is what's
- 31:50the product of the story, Sharma.
- 31:54In other words, this is this all gets down to paracious.
- 31:57And if and and. Yeah, we should whip over snack
- 32:00for me to show you this. I'll.
- 32:02I'll. Can we bring over to knock?
- 32:04Let me show you something. Yeah, sure.
- 32:06Yeah. Here, whip it up.
- 32:07Whip over to knock. OK, Here we go.
- 32:08Watch this, watch this, this is push it wild.
- 32:15And I, I'll tell you something. One thing I like about the, you
- 32:18know, the Korean printing is that is that they, that they,
- 32:22you know, they made the, the partious are very clear and they
- 32:25put the chapters on the side where they belong.
- 32:28And because the chapters are an invention, the chapters are an
- 32:32invention of what's his name of, of 2 English monks in the 1100s.
- 32:38And I'm not going to diverge on that.
- 32:39We don't have time for it, but they sometimes drive me crazy.
- 32:42OK, look the the story after David says Khatasi, that's when
- 32:49Nelson confronts David. David says Khatasi.
- 32:54Then the next story is is David's chuva.
- 32:57And where does it finish with Shalom's birth?
- 33:00OK. And you see very clearly that
- 33:05the story is to lead to Shalom's birth.
- 33:07OK, now Shalom, wait a second, wait a second.
- 33:09Shalom was you did Hashem if you would learn it Kushuto it makes
- 33:16it makes negative sense you did Hashem came out of this.
- 33:20Does that make any sense? Makes no sense at all And.
- 33:25I don't know why it can't make sense.
- 33:26No, no, Because. Because you don't know what
- 33:28Shrina means. You don't understand, you know?
- 33:30Yeah. You had a schmooze recently that
- 33:32was easy peasy. It is.
- 33:33No, it's. It's not.
- 33:34Did you watch the schmooze? Yes, I did.
- 33:36OK, so then it's easy peasy. So.
- 33:37So it's not because I'm coming from the round bomb.
- 33:40But I'm a I'm already a prophet, don't stop me.
- 33:45Yeah, I won't, I won't. You know, that's what's
- 33:47schmoozing through three question.
- 33:48And he says to me and we were like schmoozing about Navood
- 33:51Navua and the VM and he says, yeah, someone who's not Roy for
- 33:54Navua who claims Devua and he says in Navua Shaker he was
- 33:58misstopic. If if he's kind of Misa because
- 34:00he's so posh that he's that I'm not enough.
- 34:02You're certainly not going to kill him.
- 34:05You don't have to come on to Kira.
- 34:07Is a this and that and the next. Anyway, you're not answering.
- 34:12My question I'm answering. Your question directly, yes, I'm
- 34:14answering your question. You have to look at the totalum
- 34:17of the story and not just not just pick out the sukkum to make
- 34:20devil look bad. You're right, if I if I would
- 34:23isolate the story, I would not come to the.
- 34:25Conclusion of the. But I can't isolate the story
- 34:29because I know who dove it is and how do I know who Dovin is?
- 34:33I know it from everything else which is said.
- 34:35This story really starts out in the first of all, here let let
- 34:37me give you an example which is like it's.
- 34:39Don't give me an example, tell me.
- 34:41I'm going to show you. I'm going to show you what I
- 34:42call it. As careful reading of the story
- 34:44shows you. It can't mean what you think it
- 34:46means from a simplistic reading. Nelson comes to Dovin.
- 34:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:50Nelson comes to Dovin and he tells him a story.
- 34:53Yeah. What is this problem?
- 34:54Destroy a rich man and a poor man.
- 34:57Say why? What's your problem?
- 35:00What's your problem with when? When, when, When Akhav was
- 35:05tacitly compliant in allowing his wife to kill out Navos.
- 35:12You know what? You know what?
- 35:13The Navi calls him a rosaya. He wasn't a Rosaya.
- 35:17He didn't say it. Look at the Rama.
- 35:19The Rama. Look at the Rama.
- 35:21If a king would tell someone to do it, then he's that's called,
- 35:24he's he's he's that's called a Rothache Medishami.
- 35:27You can't kill him because they're ancient.
- 35:29But it's a Rothache Medishami. He's not a Rothache Medishami.
- 35:32And he didn't say it. He knew his wife was doing it,
- 35:34but he didn't say anything. He did not.
- 35:36He didn't say, you know. Yeah, do it.
- 35:38Do it, woman. You could read the story.
- 35:40He's going to see. So why is another Kong Rothe?
- 35:44The answer is it's like we spoke before about Simpson.
- 35:47That's much closer. So that's Mufuruish.
- 35:49But mid priority that's explicit that the nothing will give you
- 35:52rebuke for Amita. So give rebuke for Amita.
- 35:57So therefore he calls out of Rozak.
- 35:59That's not really Rozak. If Dovan was over Asia's age,
- 36:03NASA doesn't have to make up stories.
- 36:04And this is this is Mufuruish in the and I think it's in Rebeni
- 36:08Shaya, but maybe it's not Rebeni Shaya.
- 36:10It's certainly in the Hassid Yves and Tahilum on Nunav.
- 36:16David should then nothing should come to him and ask him what's
- 36:20the dinner? Bali Shashish, Someone who has
- 36:22relations with a married woman. Modino, what are you beating
- 36:25around the Bush for? The story doesn't make sense.
- 36:28It was during the day when David got out from his bed.
- 36:31And then what in the world? Who cares if behemoth muktu masa
- 36:36and she was purifying herself from from from Nedus.
- 36:40Like what? You know, here there's a
- 36:42rambang. The rambang says that when
- 36:44Rachel tells Lovan. When Rachel tell.
- 36:46Wait, wait. I'm not done.
- 36:47Let me finish. When Rachel tell.
- 36:49When Rachel tells Lovan I'm having Derek nationally, Yeah.
- 36:53Yeah, Lovan. Lovan respected it because
- 36:56Thomas Nida was known to everybody in those times to be
- 36:59very dangerous. Or it was just disgusting.
- 37:01No, no, yeah, whatever it was. No, no, no, it's more.
- 37:03It's Tuma. It's Tuma it has to do with.
- 37:05Tuma this. I'm talking about.
- 37:07I'm talking about calling you Rambach.
- 37:10If Lovin is Macbeth. If Lovin's Macbeth Anita,
- 37:13Dovin's not. The puzzles are Dovin is doing
- 37:15Macbeth, Anita. We need dollars Mac.
- 37:16Of course, Macbeth, Anita. Everyone's Macbeth, Anita.
- 37:18OK. But that's not even really my
- 37:20point. And I haven't even, I'm not
- 37:22saying what my opinion really is, but I'm saying, OK, let's
- 37:25change it. What is the?
- 37:26What is the? I'll change the whole question.
- 37:28Yeah. OK.
- 37:30How are we supposed to be looking at stories in Tanak
- 37:33where it's quite clear that we have a great person doing
- 37:36something that is unsavory? So let's take Dovinemouth for an
- 37:39as an example. So, you know, the context of the
- 37:41question, OK, Even if we should take Khazal at face value here,
- 37:46which I happen to think that we should, it's still not such a,
- 37:49you know, a positive thing, I mean.
- 37:51You know, but we still didn't get to that part of it.
- 37:52This is a long story, you know? Yeah.
- 37:54One of my jokes is some things are simple and rabbis make them
- 37:58complicated and other things are complicated and don't blame the
- 38:01rabbi. So this is a long complicated
- 38:03sugya and ultimately it gets back to the the the to the the
- 38:07promise David. The statement that that Nasan
- 38:10told David not much before this over in the in the text is let's
- 38:13not worry about how many years it was.
- 38:15I'm not let's not try to do that.
- 38:16You know, you know, from the cuff, David Nasan tells David
- 38:21Mahasa Khoshain Kashyamikdul Misheh Baharitz, I'm going to
- 38:24make you a name like the name of the great ones in the world.
- 38:28The Gemarum Safem says I don't can't quite remember if Rashi
- 38:30brings it over there that the the the Gemara says that means
- 38:34like the of us. And that's why Devin asked for
- 38:37an assailant. You want to know is it Mufura?
- 38:40No, it's not. I agree.
- 38:41It's not. I know that.
- 38:41I trust me. I know what I know the I know.
- 38:44I know it's not Mufura. But if you want to understand
- 38:46why Devin asked for an assailant, he couldn't believe
- 38:48it. You go read Savor schwalk.
- 38:49I feel like he looks like he had this.
- 38:51Damn it. I love you, but I feel like
- 38:52you're doing everything but answering my question.
- 38:55Like, like, I'm not talking about the new sign of Devin
- 38:57Amalk. I'm looking at Devin Amalk as a
- 38:59great person in Tanakh who did something not savory, right?
- 39:03Did he really do something not savory get or not a get?
- 39:06Like that's a little bit irrelevant to my question.
- 39:08Like how do you view someone like Devin MLF doing something
- 39:10like this? Well, it was a mistake.
- 39:12You know, according to Rashi, he was over.
- 39:15He was he was he was over suffocation Sish and he was 100%
- 39:18wrong to do it. It was miscala that it wasn't
- 39:22but when he did it, but Shasta mysa was as.
- 39:25Someone who spent so much time in in explaining Tanakh and
- 39:29living Tanakh. So how do you understand someone
- 39:32on the statue of Devdamel doing such a thing when when a normal
- 39:35layman would never ever get you know?
- 39:37Well, that's true, but. 10 million miles from Suffolk, OK.
- 39:40That's true. We we, we certainly wouldn't but
- 39:43but so. Then how come that happened?
- 39:44Start up. We didn't start again.
- 39:45We didn't start up with. We weren't told I'm going to
- 39:51give you. An authoritarian like sort of
- 39:54complex and power like he was. So then why?
- 39:57Why did this? Happen it was.
- 39:58It was ambition at a level that we can't understand.
- 40:03OK, so if we were, if we were, if we were insanely powerful and
- 40:06ambitious, you would say that we would have those same times.
- 40:08Not exactly, because it wasn't pure taiva.
- 40:11The whole point of Nasan's muscle, as Khazal said very
- 40:14explicitly, is to illustrate that he mishandled the
- 40:17Yeatsahara. That's the whole point of
- 40:19Nasan's muscle. Again, that's what a hate is.
- 40:23A sin is mishandling. The.
- 40:25That's how that works. Again, when when Shawl, When
- 40:30shawl sacrifices the animals, he's accused of pocketing money.
- 40:39He didn't pocket money. You can go back and look over
- 40:42there. I could show you.
- 40:43He kept saying I did the right thing.
- 40:44I did the right thing. I did the right thing.
- 40:46And and and and and. She says no, no, you didn't want
- 40:49some shot. Makes no sense at all.
- 40:51I mean, the answer again is, is, is and meet us.
- 40:55He did the wrong thing. The reason why he couldn't bring
- 40:57himself to kill all the animals, the reason why he accepted the
- 41:00shtickle terror that they're not, they're not the Etzel Huey
- 41:03Misa. It's just they can't exist.
- 41:05So therefore Shrita would be not they're enchanting them as as as
- 41:08as as Kabbanis is fine. The reason he couldn't accept it
- 41:11is he was too attracted to the beauty that he saw there.
- 41:15And that meter, if I don't control that meter, that meter
- 41:18will lead me to Vatant al Shalalal.
- 41:21That leader will lead me to, to, to embezzle.
- 41:25It's not, it's not, it's not that he was overly attracted to
- 41:29women. It's not that what happened.
- 41:31With that. So what was that?
- 41:32That's not what. Happened like to me was one of
- 41:34the most amazing people that has ever lived absolutely was one of
- 41:37the most amazing people period and holy people that's ever
- 41:40loved and but what do I do with this?
- 41:42What do I do with the? Story The story is, is it is He
- 41:48hoped to he hoped to get to a higher place and he went.
- 41:52To someone bathe. No, he didn't.
- 41:54That was all. It was all migram it all that
- 41:56all happened. That all happened.
- 41:57So what does your how does your statement connected to what
- 41:59happened? You wanted to reach your higher
- 42:00Madriga on there for what you wanted.
- 42:02To reach there for how what said to him OK, step back.
- 42:06Ram says some more than wukum that and the Saiyan is used in
- 42:11very limited places, in, in, in, in in in Tanakh and the term the
- 42:15Saiyan has to do with ultimate achievement and and double
- 42:19thought. Ultimate achievement meaning
- 42:20reaching a new level because of. He's reaching the highest
- 42:23possible level for a person or a nation to, to, to achieve.
- 42:27OK. He thought he was at holding at
- 42:29that point and therefore for good reasons.
- 42:31And therefore he has Tashan for an asylum.
- 42:33So he's given an asylum which he couldn't handle.
- 42:36OK. And that's why you're supposed
- 42:38to be, And why and why could he not handle that Nisayam?
- 42:42The the the the Marasas in Barrigoa that it was it was
- 42:46could. You have handled that Nisayan.
- 42:47No. OK, so.
- 42:48I wouldn't have asked for it though.
- 42:49OK, so OK, there's a criticism there, but which I'm not
- 42:53addressing. OK, But OK, but but but but he
- 42:56asked for Nisayan. Yes, he did.
- 42:58And now he was he was hit with a Nisayan.
- 43:00OK, and why would he was he not successful?
- 43:03Do what do you think? Why was he quite successful?
- 43:06I mean, when we talk about Nisayan, we don't just mean, you
- 43:11know, Ernest Sienas are largely self-inflicted.
- 43:13Here I'll again, I usually don't say what I what I think on these
- 43:17shows, but I'll, I'll share a bit what you think.
- 43:19I actually think that that that the reason why David and Malik
- 43:22Nisayan is impossible to understand is because we are as
- 43:27people are not constantly walking in heavenly realms
- 43:30wielding the power of of just tremendous Gila Shrina.
- 43:34And we don't know what that means and what what when you
- 43:38have that much power and influence over the celestial
- 43:41realms and then you're hit with an Isayana that feels very
- 43:45different than if you're just a normal guy who's, you know,
- 43:48walking around that happens to see a woman that's not clothed.
- 43:50I think David Amalf was on such a humongous madrega OK, that
- 43:53that that there are certain things that would affect him
- 43:57that would not affect us. That that's my personal.
- 43:59Opinion, but a lot of people say what you're saying but I
- 44:01disagree. OK, once.
- 44:02OK, so I want you to disagree, but then I want you to say what
- 44:04it is. Because if I was in WWL's place
- 44:07without that power, without that which I don't have OK, if I was
- 44:12faced with that museon, I am really darn confident that I'd
- 44:14walk out. OK, I'm pretty darn confident
- 44:16I'd walk out. OK, so.
- 44:18So I'm just telling you right now I'd walk out fine.
- 44:20So I'm trying to figure out why. Why he didn't, him being 1000
- 44:24times the man I could ever dream to be right?
- 44:27Right, because because again, the the experience, so you're
- 44:35looking at one side of his experience of all of his
- 44:38spiritual accomplishments, which is true.
- 44:41And then you think, so what's going on?
- 44:42So the answer is, is in my opinion, the answer is the
- 44:46Hashem was sending all kokosara at him.
- 44:50We don't have that. We don't have Hashem send
- 44:53kokosara at us. That's not there's a kokara.
- 44:57There's a force of evil in the world that naturally will
- 45:00connect to us, but it's not that Hashem sends it at us actively
- 45:05to challenge. Us fascinating.
- 45:07So you're saying versus my perspective, which is that he's
- 45:11so big and therefore the new sound hits him different, but
- 45:14you're saying no, no, it could be the opposite is that he was
- 45:17who he was being big and all that.
- 45:19But that's not the thing that affected thing affected is that
- 45:21is that. But Sheva is more
- 45:23representative. I mean, it was her, but carried
- 45:25with her. Was God behind her shoving so
- 45:28much at? Him.
- 45:29Yes, Absolutely. Absolutely interesting.
- 45:31Absolutely. Would you say the same thing for
- 45:33Huda and Tamar? Oh, you heard it.
- 45:35Tomorrow is much more compliment.
- 45:36OK fine. So I don't want.
- 45:37To let's let's diverge into that, but it wasn't technically
- 45:40and you heard it on Tamara. She wasn't technically us.
- 45:41Or it's just an unsavory. It's unsavory.
- 45:44I wouldn't again. No, no, it's less, it's less.
- 45:47It's just it's not the same thing.
- 45:49It's not the same thing. Fine one. 2nd but sing a dove
- 45:51mouth. So so that's so that's super.
- 45:53So we don't even, we can't even fathom what was going on in the
- 45:56direction of Batcheva to Dove. But for me, I'm saying you
- 45:59could. We could not fathom Dovet to
- 46:01Bachev. You're saying no, no, no, we
- 46:02can't imagine Bacheva to Dove. We don't know what she was
- 46:04bringing with her. It wasn't she, Hashem was.
- 46:07Hashem was sending it at dovet. Which that's what that that
- 46:10doesn't happen under normal circumstances.
- 46:12It just doesn't happen. Hashem doesn't try to force evil
- 46:15on a person. Right it.
- 46:18Just doesn't happen. But she known as.
- 46:21No, he was punished. Now can I call the other?
- 46:25There's an absolute rule if you're punished, that means you
- 46:29did something wrong. It was not an honest.
- 46:33OK now, yeah, now I'll ask the devil into my question.
- 46:36The you'd enter my question. OK, Yeah.
- 46:38So how do you view that like your previous example for for
- 46:42for devil and and Bacheva was novel and I appreciated that.
- 46:45And I and I. Understand.
- 46:46That's great. OK, so you see, that's part of
- 46:49the I'm here. I want your secrets.
- 46:50So I, I, Yehuda and Tamar. How do you view it?
- 46:54How do I view Hooda and Tamar? Well, I I'm not I I don't have
- 47:02as constructed of a Maha. Why not?
- 47:04Yehuda was amazing. I know he was.
- 47:06But see, you know, it's like Mahane.
- 47:08It's Mahane, it's Mahane, Joseph and the brothers, OK?
- 47:14And I've been saying this for like 30 years, and sometimes
- 47:15people say why I say it. Look, Joseph and the brothers,
- 47:18you know that the Rashondam and the Madrasham say nothing about
- 47:21them. The first person to.
- 47:22Start nothing about them. There's there's some.
- 47:24No, no, no, no. The first person to construct
- 47:27theory. What was motivating the
- 47:28brothers? The Pasik says they were
- 47:30motivated by jealousy. Mafourish like cuttable alpha,
- 47:34obviously explosive. They're motivated by jealousy.
- 47:39Are you talking shift echo? They're motivated by jealousy.
- 47:43The answer is Pasik says they were the first person to start
- 47:46talking about it. Is is this Vorna?
- 47:49This Svarna? Says he they considered.
- 47:51Him Mardiff. Yeah.
- 47:52Oh, was Rodiff, he said. Marbumachos.
- 47:54He's a Rodiff. The schwa says mardbumachos.
- 47:56OK, that's everyone does. Everyone says those things over
- 48:00the person doesn't say that Sukum say they were jealous,
- 48:03fine. And that.
- 48:04And that has to do. And this, this, this one.
- 48:06When I was hausering mulachem, I came up with the epiphany of
- 48:10understanding this and that is is Yuravum Navat.
- 48:14It was offered by Ahira Shilani promises which parallel what was
- 48:20given to David and Sharma. It's astounding.
- 48:24And what did he do? He literally jumped out.
- 48:27You know, we're not even high enough building.
- 48:28Let's let's go to a 20 story building jumped out the window
- 48:31splat. You haven't been to Vat's
- 48:34innovations destroyed the unity of Collinsville to are connected
- 48:39to Corbin or vice. And the answer here is it's the
- 48:43Schmuttim and you're up in Navant the, the, the, the great,
- 48:48that great power of creation. We don't have that.
- 48:53They had it. And that and the ability to
- 48:57control or not control that, that that's just like we don't,
- 49:02you don't, we don't, we don't understand that we can't
- 49:04understand it. You know, even even Kilo, you
- 49:07know Russia, you know, you know, Bibi Netanyahu and and Ben
- 49:11Gurion's actually a better example because he created a lot
- 49:14of the structure of the state. It's still not the same thing.
- 49:17Nowhere close, because that was just in a purely physical sense,
- 49:20not in the spiritual sense. And and as much as has been,
- 49:23Green definitely was worried about his legacy.
- 49:24BB is to an extent also. It's still not the same thing.
- 49:28It's just not the same thing that does that can help me mute
- 49:30him. Tamar the answer is no.
- 49:33The reason why I diverged was to tell you that the classics
- 49:36really don't talk much about it. And I I'm not, there are some
- 49:40addressing, we're talking about it, but I'm not, you know, from
- 49:43a technical standpoint, it's just not the same thing.
- 49:46From a technical standpoint, he was morally wrong, but
- 49:50halachically correct. Rob, I'm going to know those
- 49:55users for my Ontario. There was no, there's nothing
- 49:58wrong, technically wrong with the Zelda.
- 49:59Is it? Is it a good thing to do?
- 50:00Is it morally wrong? Yes.
- 50:02Yeah, but it's still Omar Darshani, because.
- 50:05It does. It does.
- 50:06It does. It does.
- 50:07I, I don't know again, I, I, I get very without without real
- 50:12macaurus. I get very hesitant.
- 50:14And so how conservative and just just just just just just, you
- 50:19know. No.
- 50:20So how about this? How about how about you'll do a
- 50:22special explaining in your opinion what happened with you
- 50:25then tomorrow? OK, so you know, this is a
- 50:27fascinating thing. I have never had, this was to
- 50:31say a systematic homosheer and I know from experience when I've
- 50:38got to I do it, my Nakiyomi does 10 Psukuma day.
- 50:40The reason why I do that is it's good for me and good for
- 50:44everyone else that ones we're getting somewhere but we're not
- 50:47going so fast that I can't really process it on my own.
- 50:50I've never done that in Hamish and I would have to have, I just
- 50:56know from practical experience I would have to have a real
- 50:59Makayev to go and sit on it. And I'm very, you know, I drive
- 51:04myself crazy with my quest for accuracy and understanding Rashi
- 51:12Rabbana, et cetera, et cetera. And I would not, I don't like
- 51:17concocting stuff off the cuff at all.
- 51:19So it's not as simple. It's a good idea.
- 51:22No, it doesn't have to be the best second.
- 51:23Yeah, yeah, it's a good idea. If I would have to have some
- 51:27Hamashir, it was my high of me. Leave us, leave us with, with
- 51:32the way that we should be learning Tanakh.
- 51:35I think that it's a little bit of a hate where people like try
- 51:38to get the Ushaya and they look at Rashi and they look at
- 51:41Targumim and then they get completely lost and they forgot
- 51:43what they were reading. But then they got to the next
- 51:45pusak. Like what's the way to learn
- 51:48properly? And my, I'm really not an
- 51:50expert, but I'll just say mine and you'll be able to correct
- 51:52me. Therefore, I'll be easy.
- 51:54You'll look great on camera. But my I feel the way to do it
- 51:58is you go through the text, push up shot, just push up shot.
- 52:01What are the words mean? And after each section, then you
- 52:04go back and you see how did rash you look at that right?
- 52:07And then now you have the simple understanding.
- 52:10Rash is understanding. OK.
- 52:12Let me try to Let's try and I don't know how we have 5.
- 52:16Minutes here. Yeah, let's do it in 5 minutes.
- 52:18Let's try to do this in 5 minutes, OK?
- 52:21There are pros parts of Tanakh and non pros parts of Tanakh.
- 52:25I love how you said that. OK.
- 52:27OK, the pros parts of Tanakh again the technical questions
- 52:29like we just had a discussion about Devin how in the world do
- 52:32Devin about now how do I say so let's not talk about it grossly
- 52:37misunderstood person whatever we can't talk about it OK, OK
- 52:43that's the problem Naveen Reshoten OK that's the problem.
- 52:46It's not the problem isn't that I don't know flow the blunt
- 52:50facts are and most people, even people who know Shahs way better
- 52:55than me, don't know what to do with naveen macronum slash non
- 53:01pros parts of Kalah. What do What do I advise?
- 53:05Because that that's that is critical.
- 53:07You can't have any discussion about, you know, the greatest
- 53:14legacy of the Jewish people without understanding you shy
- 53:19because Yoshiya can be synopsidized down to, you know,
- 53:221 brief phrase, it's safer of mushiya.
- 53:25And if you say you like mushiya, they want you to go and Yoshiya.
- 53:29So I know what the answer is. It's impossible safer.
- 53:30I, I agree. You know, it took me a long time
- 53:33to crack it. No, nothing close to Cahalos to
- 53:35cahalos took me 30 years. Yoshiya wasn't nearly as hard.
- 53:39What do you do? What do you have to do?
- 53:43What you have to do is, is you, you need to, you know, generally
- 53:46speaking, especially Yoshiya, especially you hear me is not
- 53:51nearly as hard. You Shia the phraseology and
- 53:55the, the, the, the, the sentence structure phraseology is so
- 53:58complex. I don't believe that reading the
- 54:01bazookum without minimally the Matsudas, you're really going to
- 54:03get that far because it's just going to be confusing.
- 54:07You need to go here. We have here, we have here you
- 54:09Shia, just for an example, you Shia them tests you, you know,
- 54:13you let's say you're reading these five bazookum.
- 54:15You need to try to see where is it flying?
- 54:17Where is it starting? Where is it ending now?
- 54:19It's not fully developmental. You know, we're looking for
- 54:23tarsh balpet development for secular literature development.
- 54:29Step A to step B to step C to step EI mean tarsh balpet is not
- 54:33quite ABCD, but it We know when the gamar is asking a question.
- 54:37We know when the gamar is saying an answer.
- 54:41So you're saying the first thing is to to get structure?
- 54:43First thing is to focus on the structure of the understand the
- 54:47puzzle, understand the partial. What's this partial doing Now
- 54:51the problem is the problem is is unlike unlike Tarsh about pet
- 54:57where the amount of times I asked this to a very harsh tell
- 55:01me to clock him. I know I just I can't mention
- 55:03his name because he didn't give me Roosters and he's a he's an
- 55:06old school limp fuck. So he values his privacy as from
- 55:10Salvage once said. So I'm not going to quote them
- 55:12by name, but in Shas the amount of times the gamar says
- 55:16something and I'm not sure if it's a question or answer.
- 55:18They do exist, but it's rare. OK.
- 55:23And and and and the V macronum. It's tough.
- 55:26And tell them where's it going. There's no set words phraseology
- 55:32which tells me answer, question, comment.
- 55:35Right. Parallelism, you have to figure
- 55:36it out on your own. And the normative in my opinion
- 55:39is what I call a spiral is there's a basically central idea
- 55:43that the Novi's looking at and he's going to spiral through the
- 55:46idea partially. I don't mean developmentally
- 55:50means let's say that the idea concept issue he's talking about
- 55:54has three stages, OK? And let's say you have 3 or 4
- 55:57parts, just 2530 to come about it.
- 56:00He's going to be going back and forth between the different
- 56:02stages, jumping from A to B, sometimes from C, from C to A,
- 56:07changing his perspective not only on where he's going, yeah,
- 56:12but also who is he talking from. In other words, an event
- 56:15happens, then nobody can see it from his from the from his eyes.
- 56:19Kilo the Prophet, as Kilo, an editor in the newspaper
- 56:24commenting on it, he could see it from Claudia Strom's
- 56:28perspective, he could see it from Hashem's perspective.
- 56:31And he's spiraling. And you, yes, you have to keep
- 56:33your finger on the pulse. And after you do it, then you
- 56:35figure out what's going on. That's quite harsh, No so, so.
- 56:38That's this is the most this is the most important, my most
- 56:41important innovation in understanding Tanath is
- 56:45understanding you have to put the Pasha system together.
- 56:47And after after you do that and you can start doing it.
- 56:49And the place just one last I'm able to do another one is the
- 56:52place where you see it. The most incredible Hebrew
- 56:55written on this is Rashi and Shira Shiram.
- 56:59Rashi on Shira Shiram. I mean, I remember the first
- 57:03time I said Shira on it, which is 24 years ago.
- 57:07I've been through it. Some guy asked me to say shir,
- 57:09so I started. I say shir.
- 57:11There's no more far. Shirashi said no problem, I'll
- 57:12open up the Madrash. Nothing.
- 57:14Then Rashi comments on it. Then I did more work on it.
- 57:16Maybe 2% of Rashi is drawn from local midrasham and sheer sheer.
- 57:21But the flow of Rashi in terms of the safer is crystal clear
- 57:27and and it fits together with the parsha system of Keta RM
- 57:31sova. So clearly that I believe Rashi
- 57:34had that parsha system because to quote one of my was did you
- 57:37overlap with Ori Bilmos? No.
- 57:40OK, fine. One of my one of my Turks Ragas
- 57:42students. So structure.
- 57:44Structure is number. One structure, structure
- 57:46structure. Structure definition, and then
- 57:49and then after that, the Maharsham.
- 57:52No, you need to integrate because you're not going to you
- 57:54can't you you're not you're our our tools in depth of
- 57:58understanding of Terra is weak enough that it's that again and
- 58:03something like and and what Yermia Yushaya, Yuhasco.
- 58:07The most important tool interna is understanding what the what,
- 58:13where is the safer's going? It needs to be broken down,
- 58:16starting with pusic level, then from pusic to parsha.
- 58:19You need to go from pusic to parsha.
- 58:22Then you need to start putting the parsha's together.
- 58:24And then at that, after that point, there are most slum have
- 58:28sections. Let's just leave that simple.
- 58:32I do not believe. I mean, I'll talk from personal
- 58:34experience. I know but I don't know or as it
- 58:40says in in in it says initially Raisa ish Khakhambaena.
- 58:46If you see a person who thinks he's smart tick full excel me
- 58:49menu more hope for the fool. So I strongly recommend you know
- 58:55using the easiest user friendly thing to use is Matsudas.
- 58:59He will help you in the basics you need.
- 59:05Our world is one of the other reasons why I'm very adamant of
- 59:09don't just try to say, you know, like, how do people like to
- 59:10think? You know, I'm just going to look
- 59:12at the text to not not pay attention to anything.
- 59:14OK, That's Cartesian thought has nothing to do with terror.
- 59:16We live in a world so different that that that will lead you to
- 59:19the absolutely worst places because we live in a world which
- 59:22we can't decide what what if this is a cup of water or not,
- 59:25for example. I hope everyone understood what
- 59:28I'm talking about. So yes, you need to, you need
- 59:31to. You'd never forget what the text
- 59:33says, always look and see when they're saying something like
- 59:37why are you doing it for it? But you first have to be patient
- 59:39with yourself, especially in the V macronum.
- 59:41You must be patient. You must be.
- 59:44And if not, you're not going to get it so clear.
- 59:46This is clear. Robbie Wittenstein, thank you so
- 59:49much for joining. Pleasure.
- 59:50I got your pleasure. My pleasure.
- 59:53To summarize my my basic approach, when we're talking
- 59:56about learning Navi, it's, it's important to, you know,
- 59:59understand that when we're talking about Naveen Rushonum,
- 1:00:03it's called integration. Integration means we take the
- 1:00:07comments of Rashi and Rashi is absolutely the most important of
- 1:00:11them, of fortune. And of course, in such a small
- 1:00:14little forb, I'm not going to be able to explain more than that.
- 1:00:16Whoever wants to go find the podcast where I spoke about it
- 1:00:19at Leaf and integrate it through the beginning of the Pasha to
- 1:00:23the end of the Pasha. And when you do that, you'll
- 1:00:26find there's a lot of fruits we'll discover in Rashi now in
- 1:00:31when we're learning the non prose part of TANF, which is
- 1:00:34difficult and challenging. And and I'm not going to try to
- 1:00:37pretend and tell you that it's not the the key is following the
- 1:00:42flow of the parsha, then putting the parsha's together, then
- 1:00:46putting the safer together. Well, usually there's
- 1:00:48subsections in every safer. And again, if you want to find
- 1:00:50out more about that, go back, go and find the podcasts, my own
- 1:00:54podcasts where I explain it relatively clearly.
- 1:00:58And if we do all those things, we'll get to say, to say that
- 1:01:01we'll get more out of Ornington not it's a gross understatement.
- 1:01:04We get incredibly more.
