- 0:04Speaker 1: You're listening to The Sean O'Connell Show, your source for
- 0:07Speaker 1: the best youth football coverage.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Here's O.C.
- 0:10Speaker 1: From the Murdoch Hyundai Studio of ESPN 700 at 92.1 FM.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Zach Moss is going to join us here in about
- 0:23Speaker 3: five minutes on The Sean O'Connell Show, recapping Utah versus Utah.
- 0:26Speaker 2: State, getting started.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Into Big 12 play, which of course comes next for
- 0:32Speaker 3: Devin Dampier and Way Sean Parker and the rest of
- 0:34Speaker 3: your Utes. We spent a little time in the last
- 0:38Speaker 3: segment talking about the Big 12 Conference and the power
- 0:42Speaker 3: play of the Big 12 Conference. You got a top
- 0:43Speaker 3: 10 team now in the AP Top 25. It is
- 0:47Speaker 3: the hated rival of the University of Utah. It is
- 0:49Speaker 3: the BYU Cougars who improved to 3-0 with a 41-23
- 0:51Speaker 3: victory over Colorado State. And this game, really good game
- 0:58Speaker 3: for BYU. Haas Haney, the Colorado State quarterback, who I think,
- 1:03Speaker 3: you know, if he stays healthy in this game and
- 1:06Speaker 3: he left with a tweaked hamstring, I think if he
- 1:09Speaker 3: stays in this game, you potentially could have seen a
- 1:13Speaker 3: more valiant effort from Colorado State.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I'm not going to pretend that the Rams would have
- 1:17Speaker 2: beaten BYU today.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But maybe giving them a little bit tougher test because
- 1:21Speaker 3: I think this is one of the best teams that
- 1:23Speaker 3: the Mountain West Conference has to offer. I think this
- 1:26Speaker 3: is one of the best teams that you're going to
- 1:28Speaker 3: find in a group of six football. I think this
- 1:30Speaker 3: is probably like a top 15, top 20 team at
- 1:34Speaker 3: that level. But the real story in this game, 41-23.
- 1:37Speaker 2: For BYU, was L.J.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Martin.
- 1:38Speaker 2: 15 carries, 176 yards, three touchdowns.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That's almost 12 yards of carry.
- 1:52Speaker 3: He was an absolute nightmare for the Rams to try
- 1:57Speaker 3: to contain.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Actually, everyone was.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Every one of BYU's runners in this one went for
- 2:06Speaker 3: six yards of carry or more. Journey Tonga, you and
- 2:11Speaker 3: I have not been talking about him. He's got an
- 2:13Speaker 3: incredible head of hair on him. If you go click
- 2:15Speaker 3: on his picture on ESPN. 5'8, almost 200 pounds, 10 carries,
- 2:20Speaker 3: 91 yards in this game. Just BYU's got some weapons
- 2:28Speaker 3: this year, and I get it. Colorado State is not
- 2:31Speaker 3: going to be their toughest test, not going to be
- 2:33Speaker 3: the strongest indicator. We're going to learn a lot more
- 2:35Speaker 3: about the Cougs as they get into Big 12 play.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And they start on the road at TCU in the
- 2:41Speaker 3: Big 12, but they have a bye week this week.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So the early season bye... For BYU, I don't like
- 2:49Speaker 3: the timing of that if I'm a Cougs fan. They'll
- 2:51Speaker 3: come off the bye road game at TCU, and then
- 2:55Speaker 3: it'll be Iowa State after that.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So that'll be the first time in.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Week five when we get to see what BYU and
- 3:03Speaker 3: Utah look like compared to a common opponent. Utah will
- 3:08Speaker 3: already have played Iowa State. Iowa State will then they'll
- 3:13Speaker 3: come to Provo to take on BYU, and in week five,
- 3:16Speaker 3: we'll finally be able to get more of an apples-to-apples
- 3:19Speaker 3: sort of comparison between these two teams. That'll be the
- 3:23Speaker 3: first one. West Virginia, I already talked about on the show.
- 3:26Speaker 3: West Virginia looks really good right now. West Virginia is 3-0.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Iowa State, where Utah's got to ply their trade this
- 3:34Speaker 3: coming weekend, they're 2-1 on the season. We're going to
- 3:37Speaker 3: be talking about them a lot during the week as
- 3:39Speaker 3: we lead up to it. Their loss came at the
- 3:42Speaker 3: hands of Iowa 16-13 to a ranked Iowa team in
- 3:46Speaker 3: the Cy Hawk battle. So if there is such thing,
- 3:51Speaker 3: it's a quality loss for Iowa State University. But I think, guys,
- 3:58Speaker 3: as is often the case, we're going to end up
- 4:01Speaker 3: looking back at our preseason predictions and our expectations for
- 4:06Speaker 3: the Big 12 Conference, and we're going to say, wow,
- 4:09Speaker 3: we didn't talk about blank enough absolutely texas tech byu
- 4:15Speaker 3: utah they're going to factor in arizona who's kind of
- 4:19Speaker 3: like my lead horse in the race to be that
- 4:21Speaker 3: fourth team that we talked about uh may or may
- 4:23Speaker 3: not be there i think houston from what we've seen
- 4:26Speaker 3: from them so far uh makes a stronger case for
- 4:29Speaker 3: themselves than arizona does at this juncture kansas state with
- 4:33Speaker 3: avery johnson uh he had 227 yards passing and 152
- 4:39Speaker 3: yards rushing against Tulane this past weekend. He beat the
- 4:43Speaker 3: Green Wave basically himself.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And they're 3-0.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Nichols State, they beat Nichols State, they beat Washington State,
- 4:51Speaker 3: and then they found victory over Tulane. All home games
- 4:55Speaker 3: for Kansas State as well. So very similar to Utah.
- 4:58Speaker 3: They have yet to travel. Now they're heading this week
- 5:01Speaker 3: to Cincinnati. Cincinnati does not look like a team that
- 5:07Speaker 3: that people should sleep on either. Cincinnati is also 3-0,
- 5:11Speaker 3: although their best win so far against Boston College. At
- 5:16Speaker 3: least that's a power opponent. They also beat Western Carolina
- 5:21Speaker 3: and Miami of Ohio. Obscure Mascot Challenge, Western Carolina. The
- 5:30Speaker 3: mascot for Western Carolina, James, who lost.
- 5:33Speaker 2: 62-10 against Cincinnati. Cincinnati. I feel like it's Bobcats, right?
- 5:39Speaker 3: Well, yes, but no. Okay, because the actual name is
- 5:44Speaker 3: the Catamounts. Cat of the Mountain.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Catamounts. That could be a Bobcat. I'm like, I've seen
- 5:51Speaker 2: the logo before for sure. I was picturing a Bobcat type,
- 5:53Speaker 2: but Catamounts.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Catamount. Western Carolina Catamount. I think that's Virginia too, right?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Not Virginia. Vermont. Excuse me.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Vermont.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Different. Virginia is the Cavaliers. Cavaliers. I said Virginia was
- 6:09Speaker 2: thinking Vermont. As we often do. Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 3: We welcome the Utah football legend, NFL veteran, and currently
- 6:16Speaker 3: also the sideline reporter for all Utah radio broadcasts, Zach Moss,
- 6:20Speaker 3: comes back on the Sean O'Connell Show.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Zach, welcome. How are you?
- 6:24Speaker 4: Speaker 2, good, good. Good to be back. How are
- 6:25Speaker 4: you guys doing?
- 6:26Speaker 2: All right, man.
- 6:27Speaker 3: A beautiful day at rice Eccles on a Saturday and
- 6:30Speaker 3: a beautiful result for the university of Utah, 33 to
- 6:33Speaker 3: zero all in the battle of the brothers over Utah state.
- 6:38Speaker 3: You know, really strong first half for the youths. Things
- 6:41Speaker 3: kind of slowed down a little bit in the second half,
- 6:43Speaker 3: but we'll focus on that first half for now.
- 6:45Speaker 2: What did you like most from this Utah football offense?
- 6:50Speaker 4: I love the way they started off fast. You know,
- 6:53Speaker 4: that's always a... a real good sign for really good offenses.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Offenses that can start early, get things going, put up points,
- 7:01Speaker 4: and capitalize when the opportunities are there for them. So
- 7:04Speaker 4: I think they did a really good job of that
- 7:05Speaker 4: on Saturday. Obviously, it's not a rivalry game to some degree, right? But,
- 7:11Speaker 4: you know, they focused on doing the things they need
- 7:14Speaker 4: to do. So that was really good to see. And
- 7:16Speaker 4: they got Brandon Pagan going to that game as well. So,
- 7:19Speaker 4: you know, it was a really good showing in that
- 7:21Speaker 4: first half for sure.
- 7:23Speaker 3: The, the run game, the Utah run game gave, they
- 7:27Speaker 3: produced almost 200 yards of total offense, about five yards
- 7:30Speaker 3: of carry. But the overall numbers are skewed a little
- 7:34Speaker 3: bit by like a big Daniel Bray run. And when
- 7:38Speaker 3: we talk about the actual kind of like, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 3: the workhorse type stuff, Utah state did a good job
- 7:45Speaker 3: of limiting production on the, the average carry. It was
- 7:49Speaker 3: three yards of carry for dev three yards for way,
- 7:52Speaker 3: Sean bird, just shy of five yards. And I know
- 7:55Speaker 3: the end result is all that matters. And it was
- 7:57Speaker 3: 33 to zero. So we're getting pretty, pretty nitpicky here,
- 8:01Speaker 3: but is there any even mild concern for you that
- 8:05Speaker 3: the run game did not get going the way they
- 8:06Speaker 3: wanted it to?
- 8:09Speaker 4: Speaker 3 6th, you know, I think You know, I
- 8:12Speaker 4: think the interior run game is something that we do
- 8:16Speaker 4: have to look at. You know, I was kind of
- 8:20Speaker 4: not critical, but I pointed it out versus Idaho, right, that,
- 8:24Speaker 4: you know, we had a really good run game that night.
- 8:27Speaker 4: or outside edges, right? Getting plays outside, things of that nature, right?
- 8:32Speaker 4: And making plays out there. But when it came to
- 8:34Speaker 4: run the ball between the A gaps and the B gaps,
- 8:38Speaker 4: it was pretty much non-existent. And then, you know, we
- 8:40Speaker 4: saw that again Saturday versus Utah State team where a
- 8:44Speaker 4: lot of the runs especially for Parker, were designed to
- 8:47Speaker 4: go inside, hitting inside, and it was almost no space.
- 8:51Speaker 4: It was either getting hit at the line of scrimmage
- 8:53Speaker 4: or getting two, three yards and getting taken down. It
- 8:56Speaker 4: wasn't a lot of daylight for him. Like you said,
- 8:59Speaker 4: Bray helped those numbers out a lot because without that
- 9:02Speaker 4: big run, I think a lot more people would be
- 9:06Speaker 4: looking at it a certain way. The run game is
- 9:09Speaker 4: all about physicality and being dominant as a mindset. You
- 9:12Speaker 4: don't always have big plays. You don't always have a
- 9:15Speaker 4: great run game. But I think I'm sure the coaches
- 9:20Speaker 4: are looking at it and trying to figure out ways
- 9:22Speaker 4: that they can just get a little bit better inside
- 9:26Speaker 4: the run game. You know, you can drop a lot
- 9:28Speaker 4: of stuff, right? We have a lot of formations and
- 9:29Speaker 4: things like that. But at the end of the day
- 9:31Speaker 4: is about the guy in front of you. You got
- 9:35Speaker 4: to win that matchup.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:36Speaker 4: And I think we right now in the run game inside,
- 9:38Speaker 4: we just haven't been doing that consistently.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Zach, what's the longest run you ever had called back
- 9:44Speaker 3: on a penalty in your career?
- 9:47Speaker 4: Definitely not a 94, 98 yard touchdown.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I never had that problem. I would have been real,
- 9:56Speaker 4: real upset. Yeah, so now I know he was he
- 9:59Speaker 4: was really mad about that for sure.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Speaker 2, obviously you got to go back to the
- 10:04Speaker 3: huddle after that.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Probably a little winded reset mentally.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And make sure you get back in the game, whether
- 10:10Speaker 2: it's an, I mean, whether it's.
- 10:11Speaker 3: A 40 yard or a 20 yard, or even a,
- 10:13Speaker 3: even a first down that gets called back can be frustrating.
- 10:17Speaker 2: What's the right way to handle that with your teammates?
- 10:19Speaker 3: And more importantly, with the teammate that committed the penalty
- 10:22Speaker 3: that took the touchdown off the board?
- 10:25Speaker 4: You know, that play, honestly, you know, when you're trying
- 10:31Speaker 4: to run an inside zone run, those plays usually want
- 10:34Speaker 4: to hit on the backside of an inside zone run.
- 10:38Speaker 4: He broke that run to the front side of that play.
- 10:42Speaker 4: So anytime as a running back, if you break an
- 10:44Speaker 4: inside zone run to the front, the chances of a
- 10:47Speaker 4: penalty happening is very high. They just happened to bring
- 10:51Speaker 4: a blitz on the backside. So as soon as he
- 10:54Speaker 4: got the ball, that front side was wide open in
- 10:56Speaker 4: that B-gap, C-gap area. So he took it, right? But
- 10:59Speaker 4: that's where, you know, there's zone blocking. So they're not
- 11:02Speaker 4: trying to really be ass square, the offensive linemen. So
- 11:05Speaker 4: him pushing his guy to the right and Wayshawn just
- 11:09Speaker 4: happened to hit that hole, right? The chances of him
- 11:12Speaker 4: going that way, regularly or very low. So it was
- 11:16Speaker 4: just one of those plays where, you know, You never
- 11:19Speaker 4: really get to the front door of an inside zone play,
- 11:22Speaker 4: and he just happened to get there, and all of
- 11:25Speaker 4: a sudden he just happened to not be in a
- 11:26Speaker 4: good position. Because if he's in that position and Wayshawn
- 11:30Speaker 4: hits that play backside, that's exactly what you're looking for.
- 11:33Speaker 4: He just happened to hit a front side. But, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 4: you got to just continue to keep hammering with the guys.
- 11:39Speaker 4: You know, now that they know that sometimes Wayshawn can
- 11:42Speaker 4: possibly hit this this inside zone play to the front
- 11:45Speaker 4: door right that's a conversation you have with your guys
- 11:48Speaker 4: um so that way they can learn your tendencies and
- 11:50Speaker 4: you can learn their tendencies and you can just let
- 11:52Speaker 4: them know hey man if you could be a little
- 11:54Speaker 4: bit more square right something you may see on film
- 11:57Speaker 4: um throughout the week right and maybe you get an
- 11:59Speaker 4: inside zone run uh at the front door in practice
- 12:03Speaker 4: you know and you just have that little slight comment
- 12:05Speaker 4: to you guys you know continue to let them know
- 12:07Speaker 4: that you know you're a dynamic player and this ball
- 12:10Speaker 4: can go anywhere so just to you know, have that
- 12:13Speaker 4: in the back of your mind would be nice.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I know you're an offensive player, but the mentality for
- 12:19Speaker 3: a Utah team, this is the first time they've shut out,
- 12:22Speaker 3: put a zero on a, on a division one, like
- 12:24Speaker 3: an F FBS team in what?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Seven years.
- 12:28Speaker 3: And that's a, to me, that's a good feather in
- 12:30Speaker 3: the cap for your defense. That's good team ball. That's
- 12:33Speaker 3: obviously something That feels good to blank an opponent. What
- 12:38Speaker 3: does that do for this week of practice and for
- 12:40Speaker 3: momentum and things like that that you know your defense
- 12:42Speaker 3: is capable of not just playing well but shutting out
- 12:45Speaker 3: an opponent?
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that gives you a lot of room for error.
- 12:50Speaker 4: on the offense. And this offense is obviously really explosive.
- 12:54Speaker 4: You know, they can do a lot of things. I
- 12:56Speaker 4: think right now, you know, when you're offense and you know,
- 12:59Speaker 4: you got defense like that, you know, mainly for the
- 13:02Speaker 4: officer coordinator, it doesn't, you don't have to hold back
- 13:05Speaker 4: on some of your creativity that you might have, right.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Some of these trick plays and certain things of that nature.
- 13:10Speaker 4: We know we now can go forward on four from one,
- 13:13Speaker 4: four from two, four from three, right. Maybe at midfield
- 13:16Speaker 4: where some teams with a, shaky defense right not a
- 13:19Speaker 4: really good red zone defense either would have to you
- 13:23Speaker 4: know pretty much be in punt territory not even crossing
- 13:27Speaker 4: the 50 um or being right at midfield so you
- 13:30Speaker 4: know that gives this team a lot more leverage it
- 13:33Speaker 4: allows them to attack um these these defenses a lot
- 13:36Speaker 4: differently so you know having a team a defense like
- 13:39Speaker 4: that that's that's huge.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Zach Moss for another couple minutes here on the Sean
- 13:44Speaker 3: O'Connell Show talking about Utah football. 33-0 over Utah State
- 13:49Speaker 3: this past weekend, and they head on the road for
- 13:51Speaker 3: the first time this year against Iowa State. For the
- 13:54Speaker 3: people who never did it, Zach, give me like a
- 13:57Speaker 3: real sense of how different road games are than home
- 14:00Speaker 3: games as you're trying to perform in a consistent manner.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Yes, it's tough. You know, sometimes.
- 14:10Speaker 4: I think the good thing is, you know, it's great
- 14:12Speaker 4: for the fans to have three straight home games, right,
- 14:14Speaker 4: to open up the year where you haven't seen football
- 14:16Speaker 4: in a while. So you kind of get to get
- 14:19Speaker 4: into your routine and things of that nature. So that
- 14:21Speaker 4: was fun. But, you know, as a team overall, it
- 14:24Speaker 4: can be a little tricky, right? You get three straight games.
- 14:27Speaker 4: at home, right? You don't really know what your routine is.
- 14:32Speaker 4: We talk about going on a road game, right? You
- 14:35Speaker 4: guys have to travel now. They have to deal with travel,
- 14:37Speaker 4: how that feels on their body for the first time
- 14:40Speaker 4: all season, right? It's different every year, right? Just because
- 14:43Speaker 4: they've traveled before in the past doesn't mean it's the
- 14:47Speaker 4: absolute same operation, right? So, you know, some of that
- 14:51Speaker 4: has to do with some things. You know, I pointed
- 14:53Speaker 4: out in our post-game show Saturday, um evening that you
- 14:58Speaker 4: know with the offense being so good at home right
- 15:01Speaker 4: you don't have to worry about crowd noise right you
- 15:04Speaker 4: know the way we use our cadences right now with
- 15:07Speaker 4: all the clapping and the things of that nature right
- 15:09Speaker 4: how does that translate over how does these motions and
- 15:12Speaker 4: things of that nature time out perfectly all these different
- 15:15Speaker 4: formations and shifts and things that like all that stuff
- 15:18Speaker 4: you know is really easy to do when you are
- 15:21Speaker 4: at home and your crowd knows to, you know, lower
- 15:24Speaker 4: it down when you're operating, right? So now... That shifts
- 15:30Speaker 4: when you're going to be on the offensive side of
- 15:31Speaker 4: the ball. And their crowd is very, very loud. So,
- 15:35Speaker 4: you know, they got some challenges for sure. You know,
- 15:37Speaker 4: and it'll be all these guys' first time on the
- 15:39Speaker 4: road together, right, when you talk about Coach McGivens on
- 15:42Speaker 4: the road with the offense and Coach Swan as the D.C.
- 15:45Speaker 4: on the road with his defense as well. So, you know,
- 15:49Speaker 4: it'll be another big, big challenge, big stepping stone for
- 15:53Speaker 4: everybody involved this weekend down there in Ames.
- 15:58Speaker 3: How many times have you been to Iowa yourself, Zach?
- 16:05Speaker 4: Never.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Be prepared to see a lot of cornfields, my friend.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Both of my parents are from Iowa, so my grandparents
- 16:13Speaker 3: lived well. I still have a grandma in Iowa. I
- 16:17Speaker 3: go to Iowa like three or four times a year.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It is a flat, corn-filled place. It's different, man. I
- 16:27Speaker 3: think that You know, Salt Lake City, we get a
- 16:29Speaker 3: great environment here. There is, to me, there's a difference
- 16:32Speaker 3: between when a town is truly like a college town.
- 16:35Speaker 3: The only thing that's going on in that town is
- 16:37Speaker 3: the college football or the college basketball.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Ames is very much that. So I think you'll like
- 16:42Speaker 2: the atmosphere.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. You know, getting back
- 16:46Speaker 4: on the road and having to, you know, Some things
- 16:50Speaker 4: you kind of take for granted, I guess, in the
- 16:53Speaker 4: sense when you think about when you're playing, right? You're
- 16:56Speaker 4: in the moment. You're in that place right there. And
- 16:59Speaker 4: you're just kind of going and you're trying to think
- 17:01Speaker 4: about how you can perform, right? So over the last
- 17:04Speaker 4: 10 years, that's kind of what my brain has been.
- 17:06Speaker 4: So now it's really cool to get the opportunity to
- 17:08Speaker 4: go back into different stadiums, see different fan bases. You know,
- 17:12Speaker 4: and college to me has always been... much more superior
- 17:16Speaker 4: when it comes to the fan bases. And, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 4: I just said like the college towns and things of
- 17:21Speaker 4: that nature, right? Like these, these places are so unique
- 17:25Speaker 4: in so many different ways. So, you know, obviously being
- 17:29Speaker 4: in the big 12, we got some different games and
- 17:31Speaker 4: places I've never been before. So that's going to be
- 17:35Speaker 4: the best part for me is it's kind of, you know,
- 17:37Speaker 4: having a chance to soak it all in from a
- 17:40Speaker 4: different perspective.
- 17:41Speaker 3: For Your guy, Devin Lloyd, who I don't think there's
- 17:46Speaker 3: ever been a bigger Devin Lloyd fan than me. He
- 17:49Speaker 3: had one of the most incredible individual performances by a
- 17:53Speaker 3: linebacker Like in NFL history, and I know like we
- 17:56Speaker 3: can be prone to exaggerations, but two picks, pick six, sack,
- 18:01Speaker 3: force fumble, PBU, just an outrageously productive game for a
- 18:08Speaker 3: guy you know well. Did you see it live or
- 18:11Speaker 3: did you just catch the highlights? What's your reaction to
- 18:13Speaker 3: Devin Lloyd showing out on the NFL level the way
- 18:16Speaker 3: we got used to him doing it at Utah?
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think I'll have many games where I
- 18:23Speaker 4: might watch an Atlanta versus Carolina Panthers game on my Sundays.
- 18:28Speaker 4: You know, I like to watch great quarterback play. Bryce
- 18:32Speaker 4: Young is turning that way, but the Falcons, they don't
- 18:35Speaker 4: really have much chance, so I won't be watching much
- 18:37Speaker 4: of that.
- 18:37Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 18:38Speaker 4: So I didn't watch the game is the short answer. But, yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 4: I mean, Lloyd definitely had– absolutely ridiculous game. And he's,
- 18:51Speaker 4: he's always been a really, really unique player. You know,
- 18:56Speaker 4: even at the U during our time together, we played together,
- 18:59Speaker 4: I think it was two years. You know, I remember
- 19:02Speaker 4: him as a young player, but he was beyond athletic.
- 19:05Speaker 4: He can do so many different things and, you know,
- 19:09Speaker 4: This is credit to Coach Swan on getting him ready
- 19:12Speaker 4: to go be this dominant player, right? I played him
- 19:16Speaker 4: in Jacksonville a couple years ago, and, you know, he
- 19:19Speaker 4: was still learning the position, right? And he's a really
- 19:23Speaker 4: smart guy that's always trying to learn. That's where players...
- 19:28Speaker 4: And you can have a guy like Lloyd with all
- 19:31Speaker 4: the athletic ability, but credit to him because he's always
- 19:34Speaker 4: wanted to learn. He just didn't lean on his athletic ability.
- 19:37Speaker 4: He's always continued to get better. That's why you see
- 19:39Speaker 4: him making interceptions going back to last year and the
- 19:41Speaker 4: year before that. He's always in the right place. And
- 19:45Speaker 4: now when it comes from wanting to learn film study
- 19:48Speaker 4: and things of that nature, it's you know, he's always
- 19:51Speaker 4: been a really good player. We saw that at the U.
- 19:54Speaker 4: You know, obviously when I left, you know, is when
- 19:56Speaker 4: he really took off. But I remember going against him
- 19:59Speaker 4: in practice and I hated having to block him. I
- 20:01Speaker 4: hated having to block him. um in practice just because
- 20:05Speaker 4: you know the type of athlete that he that he
- 20:08Speaker 4: was then that he is still now even on a
- 20:10Speaker 4: bigger body frame um you know and i had the
- 20:13Speaker 4: same thoughts when we played him in jacksonville a few
- 20:15Speaker 4: years ago i was like man i hope i don't
- 20:16Speaker 4: have to um you know tackle this dude but i
- 20:19Speaker 4: did score a touchdown on him so you know i
- 20:21Speaker 4: do get that over him a little bit.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Speaker 2, you get that one in the group chat,
- 20:26Speaker 3: at least any thoughts, any thoughts on, on Rams giants,
- 20:30Speaker 3: Monday night football tonight, are these teams you like to watch?
- 20:33Speaker 2: I mean, you talk about good quarterback play.
- 20:35Speaker 3: You'll get, you'll get both in this one, two really
- 20:38Speaker 3: interesting running backs as well. Cam Scataboo is like a
- 20:41Speaker 3: cartoon character to me.
- 20:42Speaker 2: He's hilarious.
- 20:44Speaker 3: But any thoughts on that game tonight?
- 20:48Speaker 4: Speaker 3, that's a good game. The giants are A team,
- 20:52Speaker 4: I think, that has a lot of really good players.
- 20:56Speaker 4: And it's a perfect storm with Coach Harbaugh coming in
- 20:59Speaker 4: there and instilling a mentality and a culture that they
- 21:03Speaker 4: just didn't really have the last few years out there. So,
- 21:06Speaker 4: you know, it's great to see them. And then, obviously,
- 21:09Speaker 4: the Rams being... You know, the most talked about franchise
- 21:12Speaker 4: probably all offseason with all the moves and things of
- 21:16Speaker 4: that nature. So, you know, obviously you got Jackson Dart,
- 21:18Speaker 4: who's been doing some really good things, obviously from Utah.
- 21:21Speaker 4: And then you got Matthew Stafford, who's been doing it
- 21:24Speaker 4: for a long time. So, you know, it's going to
- 21:26Speaker 4: definitely be a great battle between two teams. You know, Scatterboo,
- 21:29Speaker 4: like you said, you know, he's definitely a character, right?
- 21:31Speaker 4: I don't know if Aaron Donald is playing, but, you know,
- 21:33Speaker 4: he said some things about Aaron essentially having to be
- 21:36Speaker 4: ready to play football regardless. You know, maybe not the
- 21:40Speaker 4: smartest thing, but we will see how that goes. But yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 4: you know, both teams are in really good places right now.
- 21:49Speaker 4: you know, a lot of questions about both sides of
- 21:51Speaker 4: the ball. But I think, you know, on a Monday
- 21:54Speaker 4: night game, we've been getting some really good games so
- 21:56Speaker 4: far this season. So I don't think there's going to
- 21:58Speaker 4: be any different.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Speaker 2, all right, last thing before we let you go.
- 22:01Speaker 3: And I, I have to allow for the, I'm, I'm
- 22:04Speaker 3: like a certified hater sometimes on certain players. And I
- 22:07Speaker 3: can be accused of being that with Caleb Williams over
- 22:10Speaker 3: the years, but He got carted off on a hamstring
- 22:14Speaker 3: strain for the Chicago bears. I'm sure you saw it,
- 22:17Speaker 3: or at least saw the highlight of the low light
- 22:18Speaker 3: of it. And how is this reacted to in a
- 22:22Speaker 3: locker room? Like what is the right way to handle this?
- 22:24Speaker 3: If you're his teammate, I know the opponents are going
- 22:27Speaker 3: to be talking trash whenever he's back on the field, but.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He's, he's crying.
- 22:32Speaker 3: He's rolling around on the field. Like it's a season
- 22:35Speaker 3: ending injury. I was watching it. I'm like, oh man,
- 22:37Speaker 3: that stinks. He just blew out his knee or something.
- 22:40Speaker 3: It's not that. And now that we have the hindsight, like,
- 22:43Speaker 3: how do you react to this if you're in the locker.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Room with him?
- 22:48Speaker 4: I mean, depending on your relationship with him, that probably
- 22:52Speaker 4: depends on how much you can either joke or not
- 22:54Speaker 4: joke around with it at him. Personally, you know, I
- 22:59Speaker 4: think mainly a lot of guys would probably be quiet
- 23:03Speaker 4: about it, honestly, just because it can be a distraction
- 23:06Speaker 4: and it's already going to be a distraction from the
- 23:08Speaker 4: outside people and, you know, obviously social media and things
- 23:11Speaker 4: of that nature. So, you know, they probably won't bring
- 23:13Speaker 4: a lot of attention to it internally. But, yeah, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 4: it was definitely... funny afterwards, right? Realizing that it was
- 23:22Speaker 4: just a hamstring thing and hamstrings can.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Hurt, right?
- 23:25Speaker 4: He was obviously running full speed. I don't know if
- 23:28Speaker 4: it resulted in crying and things of that nature and
- 23:30Speaker 4: getting carted off. I've never pulled a hamstring, but I've
- 23:33Speaker 4: done some other things that I've played with that were
- 23:35Speaker 4: definitely worse than a hamstring that I played through. You know,
- 23:39Speaker 4: but still, you know, everybody's different. He's obviously a really
- 23:44Speaker 4: good player and things like that. So hopefully he just
- 23:46Speaker 4: gets back from that and puts a lot of good
- 23:49Speaker 4: football on tape so that way people kind of forget
- 23:52Speaker 4: about the whole carted off thing on social media because
- 23:58Speaker 4: they are definitely having a blast with that right now.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm guilty of it myself, Zach, but that's just
- 24:04Speaker 3: the way things go.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Appreciate you giving us some time.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Have a fun time in Ames and bring us back
- 24:10Speaker 3: some corn, I guess, because that's what they got.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Some corn and a win. That might be a good weekend.
- 24:16Speaker 2: There we go.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Thank you, Zach Moss, former Utah running back, legend, and,
- 24:21Speaker 3: of course, NFL veteran as well.
