- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to the good to know getting to know you
- 0:16Speaker 1: podcast laughs unlimited edition, Sacramento. We are here today with
- 0:22Speaker 1: Ken Gar.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hey, Jenny.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hey, how you doing? Good.
- 0:28Speaker 2: How are you doing?
- 0:29Speaker 1: I was just jealous of your beautiful background there. All
- 0:33Speaker 1: credit to your wife.
- 0:35Speaker 2: All credit to my wife. I looked around my house
- 0:37Speaker 2: the other day. I'm like, I don't think I picked
- 0:38Speaker 2: out anything in this whole house.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I mean, how was it in your like bachelor pad?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Was it all white walls and serial killer vibes?
- 0:50Speaker 2: I had a lot of cardboard boxes. So like, Anything
- 0:54Speaker 2: that the furniture came in, I just threw away the
- 0:56Speaker 2: furniture and just kept the cardboard boxes themselves. A lot of,
- 1:01Speaker 2: not even new Ikea, just like hand-me-down Ikea stuff. So
- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm the youngest in my family. So it was just
- 1:07Speaker 2: anything I could get. A lot of stuff off the street.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I took a lot of homeless furniture in.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah, very hodgepodge style.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Especially when I moved to LA, I was like, well,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I'm going to be rich and famous in like two years.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So I don't want to buy like all new stuff.
- 1:23Speaker 2: So I'm just going to like, And then 10 years later,
- 1:25Speaker 2: you're like, well, I should go get some furniture now.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So not rich and famous in two years is what.
- 1:33Speaker 2: You're trying to say?
- 1:34Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Apparently this takes a little bit longer sometimes.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Most times, I'm going to say most times. I don't
- 1:42Speaker 1: want you to feel left out here because Lord knows
- 1:45Speaker 1: comics are not, comedy is not a get rich quick
- 1:49Speaker 1: scheme by any means. No.
- 1:52Speaker 2: No, it's, it's definitely a marathon or what's that? The triathlon.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's a triathlon. It's like three different long sports in
- 1:59Speaker 2: a row. Okay.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Uh, what are the three different sports? Let's see. Open mics.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 1: For years of not being paid. Yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Open mic. And then, uh, MC slash feature. And then, uh,
- 2:15Speaker 2: a headliner, um, you know, a headliner moving his way up,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I guess, you know? Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And then you get into, then you get into corporate
- 2:24Speaker 1: and cruises and some real money then. Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And now you're rich and famous.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Now. I mean, you know, there's not a single person
- 2:33Speaker 2: on a carnival cruise that doesn't know who I am.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Doing well.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Is carnival the only cruise line that you do?
- 2:42Speaker 2: No, I actually I started off on Carnival and then
- 2:45Speaker 2: I moved over to now I'm doing Royal in Norwegian.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So so now you're fancy moving up in the world,
- 2:51Speaker 1: moving up. So now are you are you a comic
- 2:54Speaker 1: that hates cruises or you like them or I middle
- 2:58Speaker 1: of the road?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, middle of the road.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So so I love the fact that I can travel
- 3:04Speaker 2: all over the world, Alaska, Europe, you know, the Caribbean
- 3:09Speaker 2: all over. I've been all over the place. Um, but
- 3:12Speaker 2: you know, I'm also kind of newly married. Jen and
- 3:14Speaker 2: I have only been together for five years. And so
- 3:16Speaker 2: now I'm gone for like seven or eight days at
- 3:18Speaker 2: a time. So it's kind of, kind of got a
- 3:20Speaker 2: trade off, you know, and.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Then, you know, that's why you've, you know, that's why
- 3:25Speaker 1: you've remained married for five years.
- 3:27Speaker 2: A thousand percent. Yeah. No, I get that. Every four
- 3:32Speaker 2: or five days. She's like, when's your next cruise? When
- 3:34Speaker 2: do you leave again? Do you need to ride to
- 3:38Speaker 2: the airport? Can I get you out of here?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Uh, Do I need to book something for you?
- 3:45Speaker 2: She's like, I have more painting and designing to do.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's why spouses a lot of times
- 3:52Speaker 1: become agents. They're like, I don't feel like you're working enough.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Let me get you some more work. I'll help you.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'll send some emails out for you. Let me get
- 4:01Speaker 1: at that. Yeah. I didn't sign up for this day-to-day
- 4:06Speaker 1: marriage thing.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I thought she was passionate about my career. It turns
- 4:09Speaker 2: out she just wants me to leave.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Oh, no. Yeah. She's passionate about you leaving. I decided
- 4:19Speaker 1: that I mean, I don't have any plans to get
- 4:21Speaker 1: married again. I was married very young and I got
- 4:24Speaker 1: I got in and out very quickly. It was perfect.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You know, I'd learned my lesson and sent him on
- 4:29Speaker 1: his way.
- 4:29Speaker 2: That's it.
- 4:31Speaker 1: But if I did, it would have to be I
- 4:33Speaker 1: was I always said like a pilot or a firefighter,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, where it's a week on week off kind
- 4:39Speaker 1: of thing.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that that's the best situation.
- 4:43Speaker 2: My dad was a firefighter and I'm convinced that that's
- 4:45Speaker 2: what saved their marriage was that he had a 24
- 4:48Speaker 2: hour shift and then he was off for 48. And
- 4:51Speaker 2: those off days, he was an electrician on the side.
- 4:54Speaker 2: So my dad was like gone 70, 80 hours a week.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It wasn't until he retired that they started having problems.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So she's like, what are you doing here? Don't you
- 5:04Speaker 1: have somewhere to be?
- 5:05Speaker 2: Why am I waking up to you every day?
- 5:09Speaker 1: I did not sign up for this. Ken, what movie
- 5:14Speaker 1: did we all go see? I was just trying to
- 5:18Speaker 1: think of that. It was so long ago. And I
- 5:20Speaker 1: was late to the movie and you were trying to
- 5:22Speaker 1: catch me up on what was happening. Was it Mad Max? Yes.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So you and I have gone to a couple movies.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But the first one was the Mad Max with Charlize Theron. Yes.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And it was really funny because you were so sweet.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I wasn't even super late, but I was late. And
- 5:38Speaker 1: then you were like trying to catch me up. And
- 5:39Speaker 1: I was like, I think, I think I got it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I don't, I don't think the plot is that thick.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah. The world is still ended. and um they're still
- 5:50Speaker 2: out of water and need gasoline that's pretty much the
- 5:52Speaker 2: premise of every mad max movie so right.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And they scream a lot as they drive across the
- 5:56Speaker 1: desert like ah you gotta have the energy like that's
- 5:59Speaker 1: how they fueled the vehicles or something.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You would think with food and and water being so
- 6:05Speaker 2: scarce that they wouldn't want to exert that energy but
- 6:07Speaker 2: yeah no it was a it was a high octane
- 6:10Speaker 2: time i'm gonna.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Have to remember that you know it when food and
- 6:13Speaker 1: water are scarce i gotta i lay like lay low
- 6:16Speaker 1: like a sloth and just be like yeah i'm trying
- 6:19Speaker 1: to preserve.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Here oh i'll be in a cave for sure.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Dead or alive i don't know the way you.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Said that either or i always said if there was
- 6:29Speaker 2: a zombie apocalypse that i'm definitely running toward the zombies
- 6:32Speaker 2: like i'm going to be an early i'm going to
- 6:34Speaker 2: be like one of the first zombies because i'm like
- 6:36Speaker 2: i'm not going to go like a week without a
- 6:38Speaker 2: hot shower i'm like.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Why prolong this i know right when people are like
- 6:43Speaker 1: You know, the world's coming to an end and we
- 6:45Speaker 1: have to. I'm like, what if the world is going
- 6:48Speaker 1: to come to an end? I'm not a survivor. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: know I have my groceries delivered to my house. Yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I can't hunt and gather. What do you get? Eat grass.
- 7:00Speaker 2: If there's you know, if there's like an invasion or
- 7:03Speaker 2: I've always said this to like if there's like a
- 7:05Speaker 2: nuclear like bomb coming like right on my house, put
- 7:09Speaker 2: it right on top of me. Let me go first, please.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Be quick. Be quick. Yes.
- 7:14Speaker 2: You know, I, I mean, I already lost my hair.
- 7:16Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? It's not, I'm not going
- 7:18Speaker 2: to lose more.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Um, I, you act like you've done that recently. Uh,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you've been bald as long as I've known you. No.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. Cool. Cool. Cool.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I committed early. I see what happened was I kept
- 7:30Speaker 2: letting it go shorter and shorter. And then one day
- 7:32Speaker 2: I used too short of a setting. And then I,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and then I just like went, I went for it.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Cause every bald man is, like it's a process because you're,
- 7:41Speaker 2: you don't know what you're going to look like bald.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Cause there's certain guys that do not look good or
- 7:45Speaker 2: better bald. Right. And so it's kind of a scary
- 7:48Speaker 2: thing and you try to hang on for it. But then,
- 7:50Speaker 2: you know, I look at like my wedding photos from
- 7:52Speaker 2: my first wedding and just a creep. I mean, just
- 7:55Speaker 2: could not hang out at a baseball park. You know
- 7:57Speaker 2: what I mean? Just not.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And these were bald or not bald.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Like semi bald. I was losing my hair, but hanging onto.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It, you know, I need to see at least one
- 8:07Speaker 1: of these pictures.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Oh, I'll bring, I'll sign one for you. That's the
- 8:10Speaker 2: one you can hang up if you want.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. I can't wait. Okay. I'm excited now. I'll,
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'll show you mine, but I pretty much look the same.
- 8:19Speaker 2: My original headshot had, I still had like hair and
- 8:22Speaker 2: it's like, I can't imagine.
- 8:26Speaker 1: That's so funny. I can't imagine you with hair just
- 8:28Speaker 1: cause I've never known you with hair. So it looks
- 8:30Speaker 1: very normal to me. Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 2: And then the beard, the beard's only a few years
- 8:35Speaker 2: old and, uh, my wife said that if I lost
- 8:39Speaker 2: the beard that I would lose her. And so this
- 8:41Speaker 2: was pretty much the only reason that she started dating
- 8:44Speaker 2: me is because I had a beard.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Oh, well, yeah. Okay. That's perfect. Well keep her because
- 8:49Speaker 1: she makes your house look nice. You'd be back to
- 8:51Speaker 1: cardboard and I don't know, ramen for dinner.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much. The hot pot was my friend.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah. I was going to say, could you even heat
- 9:00Speaker 1: up water? I don't know. I don't want to oversell
- 9:03Speaker 1: your abilities.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I'm a typical guy. I can cook like four things
- 9:08Speaker 2: and that's it. Okay.
- 9:09Speaker 1: What are the four things now I need to know?
- 9:12Speaker 2: Well, basically anything that you can grill, obviously chicken and steak.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I make a decent meatloaf.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And then I can make a couple of different like
- 9:22Speaker 2: pasta dishes, but very basic pasta dishes.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah. And that's pretty much it.
- 9:28Speaker 1: All right. Well, I mean, that's enough to, to live
- 9:32Speaker 1: on though.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I can eat.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I can, I can fend for myself.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Definitely no vegetables anywhere in sight but no no no
- 9:39Speaker 1: no covered me oh yeah yeah yeah yeah you get
- 9:43Speaker 1: gout immediately from is it is it is it gout
- 9:47Speaker 1: that you get when there's too much or something what's
- 9:50Speaker 1: the one where.
- 9:51Speaker 2: You don't get a lot of fruit what's the one
- 9:53Speaker 2: you don't eat fruit oh well i don't eat fruit anyways. Oh,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I'll have scurvy.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I don't eat. I don't like fruit. I'm not a
- 10:02Speaker 1: fruit person. Okay. No, like any fruits. People think it's weird,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but I just am like, I just don't like fruit.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's not a thing.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I'm a good apple and peanut butter guy.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you put peanut butter on it and
- 10:15Speaker 1: that changes things. It becomes a lot less fruit.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I have this theory that some foods are just like
- 10:21Speaker 2: delivery systems. Like pancakes are syrup delivery systems.
- 10:25Speaker 1: That makes sense. Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Right. And then the, the, the apple is just a
- 10:29Speaker 2: peanut butter delivery system because I'm not interested in the apple.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I'm just trying to find a healthier way to have
- 10:35Speaker 2: some peanut butter.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Instead of just dipping your fingers in the jar and go.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. But I, I, I had pancakes the other
- 10:43Speaker 2: day and I'm like, I just kept dousing it with
- 10:45Speaker 2: syrup and I'm like, this really isn't about the pancake.
- 10:48Speaker 2: This is mostly about the syrup. Ketchup is another thing.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm like, I could, I could liver, you know, I
- 10:54Speaker 2: can do without French fries, but it's the, it's I'm
- 10:56Speaker 2: delivering the ketchup to my, my, my gullet with.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It's just not socially acceptable to have a shot glass
- 11:04Speaker 1: of maple syrup or ketchup. I get that. Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 2: That's I do in the privacy of my own home.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, you know what you do in your home is
- 11:12Speaker 1: what you do in your home. I'm terrified, but it's fine.
- 11:16Speaker 1: At least you do it in a nice looking home now,
- 11:18Speaker 1: not in your silly serial killer bachelor pad.
- 11:21Speaker 2: No. Yeah. I had that basement apartment. That was the like, yeah,
- 11:26Speaker 2: I had a basement apartment. I had a cardboard box
- 11:29Speaker 2: with the TV on top of it. And then I
- 11:32Speaker 2: think I had like, um, pallets, like, like actual wood
- 11:35Speaker 2: pallets is like my center coffee.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Table, but not in the creative, uh, No TV way
- 11:42Speaker 1: that pallets are used now.
- 11:43Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. This was, this was absolutely intentional
- 11:48Speaker 2: and there was no thought put in it at all.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I think I found most of the stuff just next
- 11:53Speaker 2: or near the dumpster. And I was just like, all right, well,
- 11:55Speaker 2: this is my, this is my couch now, you know?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. That's just, it's just creative. That's awesome. Well,
- 12:05Speaker 1: how do you feel about trivia? Are you a big
- 12:08Speaker 1: trivia buff?
- 12:10Speaker 2: I used to be pretty good at it. And, and
- 12:13Speaker 2: then I don't know, I haven't kept up with it.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It's like a lot of things, but yeah, I'm pretty
- 12:17Speaker 2: good with trivia.
- 12:18Speaker 1: All right. Well, we have 10 trivia questions here. We're
- 12:21Speaker 1: going to, we're going to bring them. I mean, it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: not a win or lose cause I'm not playing against you. Okay.
- 12:28Speaker 1: We do have a scoreboard.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah. If we don't like any of the questions, we
- 12:35Speaker 1: blame Carlos.
- 12:37Speaker 2: He's for sure.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It's his fault.
- 12:39Speaker 2: We should name this trivia game Blame Carlos.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean, I blame Carlos for good and bad things.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So I blame Carlos for the stage at Laughs Unlimited
- 12:49Speaker 1: being moved. Oh, it was.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it was in the corner, was it not?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yep. Yep. And that was Carlos's fault. But it turned
- 12:58Speaker 1: out to be a good thing. So see, sometimes you
- 13:00Speaker 1: get blamed for good things. All right. All right. Question
- 13:04Speaker 1: number one. Where is the Liberty Bell located?
- 13:09Speaker 2: That's in Philadelphia.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yes. One for one so far. Question number two. Saving
- 13:18Speaker 1: Private Ryan lost the Best Picture Oscar to what movie? Oh, wow.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Saving Private Ryan. Oh, I don't know. I think I'm
- 13:34Speaker 2: just going to guess Crash, maybe.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Shakespeare in Love. Wow.
- 13:38Speaker 2: You know, they make a Shakespeare like once every 10
- 13:41Speaker 2: years and it gets all these awards and nobody ever
- 13:43Speaker 2: sees it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: No, they're always so weird.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Did you see him in that?
- 13:50Speaker 1: No.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Is it out now? Yes. Nobody saw it.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. It was funny because I was almost like, yeah,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I kind of want to see it, but it wasn't
- 13:59Speaker 1: like a priority.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It's every Shakespeare movie ever. Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And now I have to wait till it streams, I guess.
- 14:07Speaker 1: And then I'll probably forget to watch it then too.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Or fall asleep.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I fall asleep in a lot. It's like
- 14:15Speaker 1: when you go, go, go all the time, once you
- 14:17Speaker 1: sit down, I turn something on with every intention to
- 14:21Speaker 1: watch it. I probably have to watch it like three
- 14:22Speaker 1: times before I get through it.
- 14:24Speaker 2: My wife and I were out and about and I'm like,
- 14:26Speaker 2: can we stop at home real quick? And she's like,
- 14:28Speaker 2: absolutely not. Because once we're home, she's like, that's it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: She goes, as soon as I step foot, the comfy
- 14:37Speaker 2: clothes come on. And I go, it's only a minute.
- 14:40Speaker 2: I just have to change my jeans. Like, no, we're going.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, OK. She said, you know what? You're
- 14:45Speaker 1: going to walk around in your shitty jeans.
- 14:47Speaker 2: That's it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I don't care about your health problems. We're going.
- 14:52Speaker 2: She's like, you're already married. Who do you have to impress?
- 14:54Speaker 1: I love that. Now, why did you have to, did
- 14:58Speaker 1: you have a hole or something in your jeans or.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You just went to the gym? And then after that,
- 15:03Speaker 2: we're going to go to like a St. Patrick's day thing.
- 15:06Speaker 2: And Oh, by the way, this is all for St.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Patrick's day. I planned this.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I planned. Oh yeah, of course. Of course.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But yeah. And then we, I, she, she wanted to
- 15:13Speaker 2: go to a bar and I'm like, well, I'm wearing
- 15:14Speaker 2: my workout stuff. I don't want to let, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 2: and like, let's just change real quick. She's like, if
- 15:18Speaker 2: we go home, we're not going to go anywhere.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm like, all right.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So you were out there with your muscle T and yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm sure your gym clothes were probably fine.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Just intimidating everybody. Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. All right. Question number three. Who was
- 15:36Speaker 1: the first comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden?
- 15:42Speaker 2: Andrew Dice Clay.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yes. Hey, killing the game already. All right. Name an
- 15:51Speaker 1: NFL team. He's being very nice because you only have
- 15:54Speaker 1: to name one. That hasn't won a Super Bowl.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Oh, Jacksonville Jaguars. Yep.
- 16:05Speaker 1: There are so many on here. He should have. Can
- 16:09Speaker 1: you name three?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Oh, Miami Dolphins. And not listed. Oh, really?
- 16:18Speaker 1: Have the Dolphins won a Super Bowl? Carlos, they did. Good.
- 16:24Speaker 1: All right. Who's your third team? Miami went with Don Shula. Oh, yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you're right.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I always thought because Dan Marino didn't win one that
- 16:34Speaker 2: I always figured that they didn't win one.
- 16:36Speaker 1: You're like, Dan Marino's the only reason there was a team. Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I don't think the Chargers have won one, but I
- 16:43Speaker 2: could be wrong as well.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Well, yeah. Nope, you're right. Los Angeles Chargers. Also, The
- 16:49Speaker 1: Detroit Lions, the Buffalo Bills, the Minnesota Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals,
- 16:54Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers, the Cleveland Browns, the
- 16:59Speaker 1: Houston Texans, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Tennessee Titans.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Wow.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Right. I was like, are there any teams left? Yeah, seriously.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I could have just picked any. I had a 50%
- 17:09Speaker 2: chance of getting that right.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Pretty much. Who knew? That's why I was like, only one?
- 17:13Speaker 1: Should have named three. All right. Well. Who knew? All right.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Here's a little historical question. Well, history named the two
- 17:25Speaker 1: countries that were involved in the Louisiana purchase.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Wouldn't that be the United States and France?
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yep. Yes, it would.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yes. I know. Now we know who to take to trivia.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Your guy.
- 17:43Speaker 1: All right. Number six. What does Rico stand for in
- 17:47Speaker 1: the Rico act?
- 17:49Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. So Rico is racketeering. Oh, racketeering something
- 18:03Speaker 2: criminal organization. It is racketeering... I don't know what the
- 18:09Speaker 2: I stands for. Racketeering....
- 18:19Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I can't tell. What is the I?
- 18:22Speaker 1: Influenced.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Oh, I would have never got that.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Okay. That's right. You got criminals wrong, too. It's racketeer-influenced
- 18:30Speaker 1: and corrupt organizations.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 18:34Speaker 1: All right.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I got the racketeering. I got the racket right.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You got the racket and the organizations right. You got
- 18:40Speaker 1: half right.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I get two out of four. I get half a
- 18:42Speaker 2: point on that one, but okay.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Okay. Well, you know, and then we're going to round down.
- 18:46Speaker 1: So you can't, you don't have to have them all.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 18:53Speaker 2: That's all right.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Who is the current host of wheel of fortune?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Oh, uh, I'm picturing his face right now. He does.
- 19:02Speaker 2: America's got talent and his name. He does. Oh, he
- 19:09Speaker 2: does everything. Oh, my gosh. I'm drawing a blank. I
- 19:13Speaker 2: know I'm I'm picturing his face right now.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Oh, my.
- 19:18Speaker 2: How embarrassing. Because I wanted that job. That is the
- 19:22Speaker 2: only job I wanted was to host Wheel of Fortune.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Can you think of a better, like more or more
- 19:29Speaker 2: protected job? I mean, Pat Sajak did it for like 50.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Vanna White's still there. Yeah, she's still there.
- 19:37Speaker 1: How old is Vanna White?
- 19:38Speaker 2: I don't think she ages.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I don't watch wheel of fortune. I mean, not on purpose.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I've seen it and I know what it is, but
- 19:46Speaker 1: I didn't know that she was still there. Now I
- 19:48Speaker 1: need to know how old is Vanna White.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Oh, she's got to be in her. She's got to
- 19:53Speaker 2: be 70s. So probably she's 69.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah. 69.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I cannot think of this dude's name, but I
- 20:01Speaker 2: know exactly who it is. I cannot think of his name.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Ryan Idol. What's his name?
- 20:07Speaker 1: Ryan. Oh, Ryan.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I was going to say Gosling, Ryan.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Seacrest Seacrest.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Oh my God. That's going to bother me for a while.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I was like, I immediately pictured because the guy works,
- 20:23Speaker 2: he's got like a radio show, American idol wheel of Fort.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think he sleeps.
- 20:28Speaker 1: He's just a professional host everywhere.
- 20:32Speaker 2: But I did. I, that was my dream job was
- 20:34Speaker 2: wheel of fortune because you have job security forever.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't like a lot of change there. No.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Who was it? It was somebody else before Ryan, wasn't it? Oh, no,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I'm thinking Price is Right, and that's Drew Carey.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I was like, yeah, I was on the
- 20:51Speaker 2: Price is Right. It was cool.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Were you? Did you win?
- 20:54Speaker 2: No, Jen won. So during COVID, Jen and I started
- 20:57Speaker 2: doing game shows. So she won the Price is Right,
- 21:01Speaker 2: and I lost. And then I won Let's Make a Deal,
- 21:04Speaker 2: and she lost. So we're like one and one right now.
- 21:07Speaker 1: What did you win?
- 21:08Speaker 2: So Jen won a boat, a trip to Maui, and
- 21:13Speaker 2: two Nintendo Switches. And I won a trip to Norway.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Okay. So you guys, like, you won one.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Yeah, all of our vacations have been basically won on
- 21:23Speaker 2: game shows.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And do you still have the boat?
- 21:27Speaker 2: No, we sold the boat and got this house.
- 21:29Speaker 1: This is how we, like.
- 21:30Speaker 2: That's nice payment for the house with the boat. Cause
- 21:32Speaker 2: like who's who owns a boat in Los Angeles? That's like, right.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Yeah. That's what I was going to say. You have
- 21:37Speaker 1: to be like near water to really appreciate that. I guess.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 1: You're like, Oh, well go on the weekends and then
- 21:43Speaker 1: never happen. It's like having a timeshare.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You pay all the fees and then never use it.
- 21:50Speaker 1: All right. A question. Number eight, what state, which state
- 21:54Speaker 1: was the first to secede the United States to, to
- 21:58Speaker 1: form the Confederacy?
- 22:01Speaker 2: That was. It was. I think South Carolina.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I am so impressed by it.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It was December 21st, 1861 is my mom's birthday.
- 22:21Speaker 1: She was born in 1861. She was. People will be
- 22:24Speaker 1: sad to hear you say that. Okay. Name the song
- 22:34Speaker 1: Eric Clapton wrote for his son that passed away.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Tears in Heaven.
- 22:40Speaker 1: What a heartbreaker. Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Roll up left in question there for a comedy podcast.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks. And, you know, immediately I started like, you
- 22:51Speaker 1: hear the song in your head.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Okay. And now that we're all sad. All right. This
- 22:59Speaker 1: is the final question. Final Jeopardy style. But here you
- 23:02Speaker 1: are back on a game show. You ready? Do you
- 23:06Speaker 1: want to wager any of your points?
- 23:09Speaker 2: I will wager all six of them. Go for broke.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Go for broke. All right. Ready? Who was the first
- 23:17Speaker 1: Latino NFL head coach and QB to win two Super Bowls?
- 23:26Speaker 2: Is this the same person?
- 23:28Speaker 1: No. Okay.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Okay. Head coach and.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Okay, I think the quarterback was Jeff Garcia. And the
- 23:48Speaker 2: coach was Ron Rivera.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Carlos, are they together on the same team, same Super Bowls?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the same Super Bowls, same team.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:04Speaker 1: So Latino head coach and quarterback.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Latino head coach and quarterback.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And they won two Super Bowls.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Latino headquarters. They won two Super Bowls together. Man, alive.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I don't think I know this one.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And that's why we call this game Blame Carlos.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:33Speaker 1: And it's definitely Blame Carlos because the team is the Raiders. Okay. Okay.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Tom Flores and Jim Plunkett.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Jim Plunkett was Hispanic?
- 24:47Speaker 1: Carlos?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yes, Jim Plunkett is Hispanic.
- 24:51Speaker 1: He's half Mexican and then I think his mom's Irish
- 24:56Speaker 1: or something like that.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Okay, I think.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That is literally the worst trivia question ever. That means
- 25:05Speaker 2: that he could drink.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And that's why we call it blame carlos yeah i.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Think lame carlos was right.
- 25:15Speaker 1: We need to we need to change the title card
- 25:17Speaker 1: now carlos.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yes my favorite hispanic jim plunkett i.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Know when i when i read the answer i was
- 25:24Speaker 1: like i'm like i don't know who that is but
- 25:27Speaker 1: he does not sound latino maybe dad got me yeah
- 25:32Speaker 1: there you go well Zero points for you.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a loser. I get it.
- 25:37Speaker 1: You were doing so well until I was.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I felt great.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Other than that Ryan Seacrest one.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that really that really bothered me.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I won't ever bring it up again.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Please don't.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Just kidding. I'll make sure to mention it when you
- 25:52Speaker 1: come to Laughs Unlimited.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm on my way. Yeah, I know.
- 25:58Speaker 1: March is it 2728? Yeah, March 2728. It's going to
- 25:59Speaker 1: be so fun. uh four shows yeah uh i don't
- 26:07Speaker 1: know are there any movies gonna be out then i haven't.
- 26:11Speaker 2: You know what i i'm one of those guys just
- 26:13Speaker 2: hasn't gone to movies a lot lately you know well.
- 26:16Speaker 1: There was a time there that there wasn't a lot
- 26:18Speaker 1: of movies like.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Out no they were pretty the whole marvel thing the
- 26:24Speaker 2: last movie you and i saw together i think was
- 26:26Speaker 2: the mario brothers movie oh yeah But I think there's
- 26:30Speaker 2: that Christopher Nolan Odyssey movie coming out. I don't know
- 26:33Speaker 2: when that's coming out, though. I think it's the summer.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:36Speaker 2: And then Steven Spielberg has another alien movie coming out.
- 26:38Speaker 2: That dude loves aliens.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Well, he probably is an alien.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 1: He's just trying to give us clues on how to
- 26:45Speaker 1: deal with it. And he's really showing himself. He's like, here.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Here's how you talk to them. Here's what you don't
- 26:53Speaker 1: do to them. Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah. I gave you all the insight you needed.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:59Speaker 2: I gave you the robot attention. We started.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It was E.T. Spielberg, too.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It's like all those James Cameron movies about A.I. and
- 27:08Speaker 2: all the warnings you get about A.I. And now they're like, yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 2: we're going to do that. And I'm like, movies.
- 27:14Speaker 1: No, no, we don't learn anything. We just watch it
- 27:17Speaker 1: for entertainment. Not like, well, we probably should be careful here.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I mean, actually, the sad thing is, is AI probably
- 27:24Speaker 2: wouldn't know the answer to that football question, and I
- 27:26Speaker 2: did not, so.
- 27:30Speaker 1: AI is probably how he got the answer to that
- 27:32Speaker 1: football question.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I bet it was.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Thanks, Carlos. Although it was from Carlos, so he pronounced it, ay-yi-yi-yi!
- 27:42Speaker 1: Jesus. Oy vey. What's your favorite Spielberg movie?
- 27:49Speaker 2: You know what?
- 27:50Speaker 1: I love....
- 27:52Speaker 2: I do love Saving Private Ryan.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 2: And then the Holocaust one, Schindler's List.
- 28:04Speaker 1: The Holocaust one.
- 28:05Speaker 2: The one where all the people die.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I really like that one.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Schindler's List is great. But I like
- 28:13Speaker 2: all of them. My wife teases me because I'm a
- 28:16Speaker 2: huge Tom Cruise fan. And so War of the Worlds
- 28:19Speaker 2: is another one. It's one of my favorites.
- 28:21Speaker 1: How did you feel about the second Top Gun the sequel.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I liked it it was fine it wasn't like.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I was really happy that it was good like I
- 28:33Speaker 1: thought that they were going to screw the pooch so
- 28:35Speaker 1: bad on that movie I thought it was going to
- 28:37Speaker 1: be I was like they're going to ruin everything and
- 28:40Speaker 1: they actually I want to say did it well yeah
- 28:44Speaker 1: they stayed true to it and they you know.
- 28:48Speaker 2: That scene with Val Kilmer was awesome.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. There were so many pluses in that
- 28:53Speaker 1: movie that because I was really I was really ready
- 28:56Speaker 1: to be upset about that. I was like, wait a minute.
- 28:59Speaker 1: This is my childhood. You cannot ruin my show. I mean,
- 29:02Speaker 1: I know many times now. Why not?
- 29:04Speaker 2: But now there's a Spaceballs sequel coming out, too.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 29:08Speaker 2: And thankfully, Mel Brooks is still like, you know, attached
- 29:12Speaker 2: in writing it. But yeah, I was a little worried about,
- 29:16Speaker 2: you know, some of these some of these movies don't
- 29:17Speaker 2: need sequels, you know.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Right. A lot of them don't. And you say, why
- 29:24Speaker 1: don't we just come up with new ideas? But I
- 29:26Speaker 1: guess that's easier said than done. Yeah. Especially in this
- 29:30Speaker 1: day and age. But you can still come to comedy
- 29:34Speaker 1: and see originals.
- 29:36Speaker 2: That's right.
- 29:37Speaker 1: We don't have sequels in comedy, so come on out.
- 29:40Speaker 2: That's it.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Laughs Unlimited. March 27th and 28th to see this guy,
- 29:45Speaker 1: Ken Gar.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I'll be there.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, thank you so much for your time and
- 29:52Speaker 1: we'll see you in a couple weeks.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Jenny, it's great to see you always. I'm looking forward
- 29:55Speaker 2: to coming to the shows. I hope we're going to
- 29:58Speaker 2: Fill it up and have a great time in Sacramento.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
