Transcript
- 0:01Welcome to the kickoff episode of the One Small Change. I
- 0:05am so thrilled to be sharing this with you on your
- 0:09journey of exploration and transformation.
- 0:12I'm your host, Yvonne McCoy, and I bring with me
- 0:16almost 30 years of entrepreneurial experience.
- 0:20And, you know, I started out with, I have an MBA, and
- 0:23I started out in in corporate. I moved then
- 0:27to a more entrepreneurial position with a big company.
- 0:31And one of the things that I learned with these things is, you know,
- 0:35we all may have the same goals, but there are lots of ways to get
- 0:38there. And we all have a
- 0:42passion for growth and having an impact
- 0:46on the people around us. And what I learned is
- 0:50that one of the most important things you can do is to do it your
- 0:53way with the thing that you're the uniqueest about.
- 0:57So I wanna help you in this entrepreneurial journey to
- 1:01find ways that one small change can have a huge impact on
- 1:04your business because it isn't always the big flashy, shiny
- 1:08things that you get into that are really gonna have the biggest
- 1:12impact. So every week, we're gonna explore some of the most
- 1:16incredibly small changes, through
- 1:19honest conversations with fellow entrepreneurs, and they're gonna show you
- 1:22how a small unexpected or insignificant change
- 1:26sparked remarkable transformation and growth in their life, both
- 1:30personally and professionally.
- 1:39Inspiration. Exploration and your inspiration.
- 1:43So the way that I got
- 1:47here, where it
- 1:51actually really started, was that I got fired.
- 1:55And for the first time in my life, my slate was
- 1:59totally clean. It was empty. And, you know, I actually
- 2:03remember, thinking, I don't have a job. I
- 2:06don't have a title. I don't have a paycheck. I have nothing
- 2:11to know. What am I gonna do? And
- 2:14so I sat and thought, well, you know, this could be an
- 2:18opportunity. I don't have to treat try to keep building on what
- 2:22I already have. I could actually change directions and go in a
- 2:26totally different direction. And
- 2:29so I decided that I would volunteer. I
- 2:33always wanted to teach, reading to adults because
- 2:37I I I found it inspiring that people were
- 2:40willing to face up to, you know, a struggle that they have and wanna
- 2:44try to solve it. And the short version of it was I was not
- 2:48very good at it. And the reason that I probably wanted to teach, you
- 2:52know, reading was because I couldn't read as a kid and somebody took the
- 2:55time to help me to overcome my challenge. I was not
- 2:59good at that. But what I was good at was I
- 3:03was very good in workforce development,
- 3:07And I was very good at kind of being a
- 3:10translator because they had grants that they had to give away to
- 3:14businesses, but they couldn't seem to make them understand the
- 3:18value of them because they would say, we can increase the reading level of
- 3:21your people. And, you know, they were like, we don't want we don't care about
- 3:25their reading level. We want them to stop making mistakes.
- 3:29And so I was able to go in and say, look, guys. Here
- 3:32here here's what we've got. You've got problems that need to be solved
- 3:36because people are not understanding instructions or not following
- 3:40instructions and not using initiative. If they were
- 3:43able to read better, a lot of this would be fixed. So,
- 3:47you know, the grant is free, but you've gotta invest in this.
- 3:51And suddenly, we had more people taking up the offer than ever
- 3:54before. And so I found that I was kind of a translator,
- 3:58between the experiences the 2 different experiences. And
- 4:02so that's what I like entrepreneurs to be able to see.
- 4:06I had a unique ability to be able
- 4:10to straddle both worlds, and so became incredibly
- 4:14successful at that. And what I want you to see is the thing that you
- 4:17think is weird, and that's usually the thing that your parents tell you
- 4:21not to do, or you've always done that with a, you know, a a
- 4:24sigh of disgust. That is probably the thing that
- 4:28will make you incredibly profitable and
- 4:32incredibly unique so that you have a niche and people
- 4:35high priced clients will be willing to pay for your
- 4:39services. So just imagine if you
- 4:43could find what that was, what or a small change in your business that
- 4:47could shatter some barriers, streamline some
- 4:50processes, or even, you know, propel you
- 4:54to higher levels of success, what would that feel like? What
- 4:58would that be like? So over my years of experience, I've learned
- 5:02that the beginning of that is changing lifelong beliefs
- 5:05that that keep you from uniquely impacting the world. And the
- 5:09key is, you know, that's the key to unlocking
- 5:15the success that you never imagined.
- 5:21I think through this podcast, we're gonna hear from entrepreneurs who experience
- 5:25these these kinds of changes. And I aim to ignite your
- 5:28imagination and empower you so you can amplify your
- 5:32impact on the world and do it faster.
- 5:37So what's your bold vision for change? What hurdles stand
- 5:40in your way? So let's see what we can do together to uncover
- 5:44those missing pieces that can catalyze your business and your
- 5:48dreams to unparalleled excellence. And here's the
- 5:51exciting part. You don't have to do this alone.
- 5:55Every week, I'm gonna sit down with entrepreneurs who've who've cracked the
- 5:59code to, you know, finding ways to
- 6:03do this and and have shifts and transformations
- 6:07that have impacted their business and life in unexpected ways.
- 6:12And I have to tell you that with change comes unexpected consequences.
- 6:16And so it is really good to have somebody to share this journey
- 6:19with and how you do it so that you don't have to make
- 6:23the mistakes that they made and you can get through it a lot
- 6:27faster. And as a first step, I need to make sure that
- 6:30you subscribe and share and engage in the podcast
- 6:34because we want to supercharge your business through connection. And
- 6:38it's my way of giving back to this community and fueling your quest
- 6:41for growth and impact. So
- 6:45let me tell you a little bit more about the show because it's gonna be
- 6:49kinda wide ranging. The theme is gonna be the same. So we're gonna
- 6:52have people who are going to, help you with
- 6:56how the small change that happened in their business. They're gonna teach
- 7:00you about. Other people are gonna teach you about,
- 7:03how a small change in your health can help your business. Other
- 7:07people are gonna talk about how you look and how you present
- 7:11yourself. And so there are gonna be a lot of different categories
- 7:14that impact you because you are a whole person.
- 7:18This is what I wanna tell you. You know, too many times
- 7:21people try to split you into 2 people. You know, you've got your business persona
- 7:25and you've got your personal persona. My personal belief
- 7:29is that you're one person. And in order for you to be effective
- 7:33and have impact, the things that you do should've you should
- 7:36be able to use them both. So the way that I'm not telling
- 7:40you, the person that's gonna talk to you about how you present yourself
- 7:44is not gonna say you have to present yourself this way for business and this
- 7:47way for for your personal life. There are
- 7:51people who are gonna talk to you about how your
- 7:55health is the fuels your energy for your
- 7:58business. Some of the things that I like
- 8:02in particular is and I think one of the things that that they all are
- 8:06gonna be is what is that what is that limiting belief that
- 8:10you have that keeps you from getting out there? And I will share one of
- 8:13mine. It took me a really long time to speak because I'm
- 8:17fat and I didn't want wanna get in front of a lot of people.
- 8:21Thank god for Zoom. So you're
- 8:25gonna find lots of different things. So I invite you to listen
- 8:28to at least 3 episodes to get a feeling about the show,
- 8:32because if the first one is not on a topic that you like, I still
- 8:36think you'll be able to take something away from it. But, you know, you wanna
- 8:39see what's happening so that you can see what the theme is
- 8:44and how it can help you. Because my model is you learn
- 8:48something, you apply something. So every speaker will give you a
- 8:51practical tip that you can use. And then you share it with
- 8:55people because just talking about it actually helps you
- 8:59to clarify how you're gonna use it. And it also makes you
- 9:02more credible because you're bringing new information to your group of
- 9:06people. And then we wanna make sure that you have a way to use this.
- 9:10So by coming to another episode, it says,
- 9:13oh, did I actually use what I learned in the last episode? So
- 9:17it's kind of a built in thing so that you, you know, have automated
- 9:21this learning for yourself. And pick a
- 9:24time when it's a good time for you to listen to the broad you know,
- 9:28the podcast so that you know that it's always there, and you wanna
- 9:31bookmark it so you can find it. So that's what we're
- 9:35gonna be doing, and I'm excited because I think it's gonna make a huge
- 9:39change in the way you view your entrepreneurial and personal
- 9:42life. So I
- 9:46hope I've given you enough that you'll stay curious, that you'll
- 9:50join me for the one small change and embark on that journey
- 9:53where even the smallest ships can yield monumental transformations?
- 9:57And it helps if you can say that monumental transformations.
- 10:02So I want you to listen to the next episode and
- 10:06dive into a world of bold vision and innovative possibilities.
- 10:10And this is the thing that I wanna leave you with. Remember,
- 10:14change can be simple, but it's not always easy because it requires
- 10:18courage and resilience and a willingness to step out of your comfort
- 10:21zone. So I want you to join me so I can help you with that.
- 10:26And be sure to tell a friend. Be sure to subscribe.
- 10:30Be sure to bookmark this so you can find it. And I'm gonna
- 10:34say to you, I want you to stay curious because the world is
- 10:37constantly changing. And if you don't change with it, you're
- 10:41gonna get left behind. Join me for the next episode.
