- 2:18Speaker 5: I know.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Thanks. I can't believe you invited me twice in one week.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Twice in one week. Thank's going on? And the more
- 2:25Speaker 3: responsible member of this trio this morning is Tom Payton.
- 2:29Speaker 3: You just heard him on, asked the lawyer. You doing Tom,
- 2:31Speaker 3: I'm doing great. I feel like I'm kind of Steve's handler.
- 2:34Speaker 3: He doesn't come here unless I'm here. Well, he he
- 2:37Speaker 3: needs a handler. I needs representation too. We talked earlier
- 2:43Speaker 3: in the week about this golf outing happening tomorrow at
- 2:45Speaker 3: Sleepy Hollow as a as a fundraiser for the trun
- 2:49Speaker 3: Candy YMC over the YMCA. What's what new? Can you
- 2:52Speaker 3: tell us? Since uh, we talked to.
- 2:54Speaker 6: You about so you've got some more teams. But yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 6: we're all said, you know, the threat nails the other forecasts.
- 3:00Speaker 6: But I was just looked at the hourly. It actually
- 3:02Speaker 6: doesn't look too bad for tomorrow, and if we have
- 3:06Speaker 6: a little thunderstorm then we'll just pause and keep on rolling.
- 3:08Speaker 6: So I wouldn't hesitate because of the weather.
- 3:11Speaker 7: But we've got a.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Few slots left for teams, I think in the morning
- 3:14Speaker 6: and the afternoon.
- 3:16Speaker 7: But yeah, we're still all set.
- 3:17Speaker 6: So tomorrow morning's flights eight fifteen, then we have an
- 3:21Speaker 6: afternoon flight. If you want to play Sleepy Hollow, then
- 3:24Speaker 6: you can call the y three or four seven, five
- 3:27Speaker 6: seven zero zero one six and they'll make arrangements to
- 3:30Speaker 6: get your team in. And then we have what should
- 3:33Speaker 6: be a really fun party on the patio tomorrow evening.
- 3:36Speaker 6: If you play in the golf event, you're in the party,
- 3:38Speaker 6: so okay, but you can I want to clarify that
- 3:41Speaker 6: you don't have to buy a separate ticket for the
- 3:43Speaker 6: party on the patio, but you can at the opposite
- 3:46Speaker 6: You can come to just the party if you want, because.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Some people may not be able to get off work.
- 3:50Speaker 7: That's right.
- 3:51Speaker 6: And about five o'clock is a social hour and then
- 3:53Speaker 6: it kicks in with food at six o'clock. We got
- 3:55Speaker 6: a silent auction full band, the Lost cause Bann heard them.
- 4:00Speaker 6: They're really good. They play kind of kind of like
- 4:02Speaker 6: the Mountain plays really the same type of music and
- 4:06Speaker 6: that's right, rock seventies, eighties, nineties songs. And they're a
- 4:11Speaker 6: fun group and they'll be out on the patio. If
- 4:14Speaker 6: you've been to Sleepy Hollows patio, it overlooks the golf course. Mean,
- 4:17Speaker 6: it's just hard to find a better venue for a
- 4:20Speaker 6: concert or some music. And then we uh included with
- 4:24Speaker 6: the party. You get food provided by Sleepy Hollow, which
- 4:27Speaker 6: is really good, and you get I think the beverage
- 4:31Speaker 6: is included or of course we have non alcoholic beverages
- 4:34Speaker 6: pop and tea, but we have wine and beer cocktails,
- 4:41Speaker 6: but that's a cash bar if Sleepy Hollow has a
- 4:43Speaker 6: really nice bar there inside where if you want a
- 4:48Speaker 6: cocktail you can get one silent auction. So we got
- 4:51Speaker 6: some items there, But what.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Kind of items you got on sibon? Are you a
- 4:54Speaker 3: liberty to discuss?
- 4:56Speaker 6: You know, I haven't paid a whole lot of attention
- 4:58Speaker 6: to a lot of local local fair I know. Uh,
- 5:01Speaker 6: I put up my I got a little villa at
- 5:02Speaker 6: the beach that we put up for selling aux and
- 5:05Speaker 6: it's a nice couples get away. It's a one bedroom er,
- 5:08Speaker 6: but it's on Kiowa Island.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I'm not taking you, Steve, stop looking at me.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Come on so you can get You can get a
- 5:13Speaker 6: bargain there if you get in uh and want to
- 5:17Speaker 6: go down to. It's outside Charleston, South Carolina, so that's
- 5:19Speaker 6: a good item. But you know, I haven't paid a
- 5:20Speaker 6: lot of attention to what we've got, but a lot
- 5:22Speaker 6: of local gift certificates things like that, so you get some.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I think I got a really nice water rose last year.
- 5:32Speaker 6: We get what we can, and you know it's I
- 5:34Speaker 6: still use It's great. I got it for less than retail, so.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I'll bring my car by if you'd like to wash
- 5:39Speaker 3: it later. And the The Animal the Mountain. The Mountain
- 5:44Speaker 3: will be broadcasting live from there. Steve Animal will be
- 5:47Speaker 3: there to I hate I'm gonna have to miss that
- 5:49Speaker 3: part of it this year because of this radio thing
- 5:51Speaker 3: they make me do now between noon and three, so
- 5:53Speaker 3: I will.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Not be there.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I was there with you last year and had a great,
- 5:57Speaker 3: great time, but I'll try to make the party towards.
- 6:00Speaker 3: But you're going to be there with plenty of Mountain
- 6:03Speaker 3: swags starting at eleven o'clock.
- 6:05Speaker 8: Come on out, I'll have that you'll you can watch
- 6:08Speaker 8: me eat and the price of admission and the neat
- 6:12Speaker 8: thing about this whole thing if you've never been to
- 6:13Speaker 8: Sleepy Hollow. The security has been lifted for the day
- 6:17Speaker 8: so it is open to the public. I rate you
- 6:19Speaker 8: to come on out and take a look around. I'll
- 6:21Speaker 8: be in the Greenleaf seating area and I'll love to
- 6:26Speaker 8: see you out there.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And Tom, let's talk about the the the Dumont to
- 6:31Speaker 3: Try County YMCA, because it's a great cause. I mean, yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 3: we're going to be out there playing golf and people,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, drinking beer and having fun and the party afterwards.
- 6:40Speaker 6: But it's about the cost. Talk about that, that's right.
- 6:42Speaker 6: And this is we only really have. You know, I've
- 6:44Speaker 6: been on the board there for gosh longer than I
- 6:47Speaker 6: can remember, in the president last three or four years,
- 6:49Speaker 6: and we tried to do fundraisers here and there, but
- 6:51Speaker 6: it's just the effort you need to raise a little
- 6:54Speaker 6: bit of money made it difficult. So we've kind of
- 6:56Speaker 6: honed in and only have really one fundraiser a year.
- 6:58Speaker 6: That's it, and it's this one. And what it does
- 7:01Speaker 6: is the money helps us because we have a multitude
- 7:05Speaker 6: programs of the why we have a summer camp. It's
- 7:07Speaker 6: really nice basketball like football, soccer, swimming, all kinds of
- 7:14Speaker 6: offerings for the kids in the community. And and we
- 7:17Speaker 6: want to set it up so that no child's left behind.
- 7:20Speaker 6: So if if a kid has some issues at home
- 7:24Speaker 6: or otherwise couldn't afford the entry feet of these programs
- 7:28Speaker 6: or can't afford to be a member, uh, we don't
- 7:30Speaker 6: turn them away at the whip. And that's where this
- 7:32Speaker 6: money goes. We call it the scholarship program, and it
- 7:36Speaker 6: allows us to continue to do that, and that's our
- 7:39Speaker 6: plan in the future. So if you have a child
- 7:41Speaker 6: from a royal area that can't get to downtown Charleston
- 7:45Speaker 6: or Huntington, we kind of pride ourselves on providing as
- 7:50Speaker 6: close as we can, sometimes even better amenities there for
- 7:54Speaker 6: the folks in Putnam County. And if there are children
- 7:57Speaker 6: that his parents can't afford it, they're still to be
- 8:00Speaker 6: able to participate.
- 8:01Speaker 7: And that's that's.
- 8:02Speaker 6: What this is really about, is kind of refilling the
- 8:06Speaker 6: coffers so we can continue to do that and provide
- 8:08Speaker 6: that opportunity for the kids in the Putnam County area.
- 8:11Speaker 3: And you still have slots available, do you so have
- 8:13Speaker 3: whole sponsorships available, because I know you have to have
- 8:15Speaker 3: signs made and things of that nature.
- 8:17Speaker 6: I don't know we can probably work up a sign.
- 8:19Speaker 6: You'd have to call the Wye and see if they
- 8:20Speaker 6: can do it. I think we've probably made them by now.
- 8:23Speaker 6: But if you want to play there, there is a
- 8:27Speaker 6: maximum amount of teams. We're getting close. But if you
- 8:29Speaker 6: want to play tomorrow, give the why call. I think
- 8:32Speaker 6: we still have room for three or four teams to
- 8:34Speaker 6: get in and a choice of whether it's the morning
- 8:37Speaker 6: or afternoon flight. So if you got something in the
- 8:39Speaker 6: afternoon you have to do, you can play in the
- 8:41Speaker 6: morning flight, be done by one o'clock. If you got
- 8:43Speaker 6: to get some work done in the morning, you can
- 8:46Speaker 6: play in the afternoon flight. Start about one fifteen and
- 8:48Speaker 6: get down there and play.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Or just blow the whole day off over there at six.
- 8:56Speaker 7: A day.
- 8:56Speaker 8: It is Friday, so absolutely Marty is standing by. Operators
- 9:01Speaker 8: are standing by three oh four seven, five seven zero
- 9:03Speaker 8: zero one six call now.
- 9:05Speaker 3: And I do want to mention this about mister animal
- 9:09Speaker 3: you are. This has nothing to do with what we're
- 9:10Speaker 3: talking about here, but I want to give you a
- 9:12Speaker 3: plug because tonight you're going to be live at bar
- 9:14Speaker 3: one oh one on Capitol Street, downtown Charleston from six
- 9:17Speaker 3: to eight.
- 9:17Speaker 8: I am back in my old stomping ground. Love to
- 9:20Speaker 8: see you out there. Come on, buy cheeseburger, fries and
- 9:22Speaker 8: an ice cold draft only fifteen bucks. Best deal in town.
- 9:25Speaker 8: You can get it every day.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And they are good burgers. They are great burgers. And
- 9:29Speaker 3: then you're out at Sleepy Hollow tomorrow and then on
- 9:32Speaker 3: Saturday you're a Trojan Landy Marine.
- 9:34Speaker 8: The power Sports also starting at eleven spot. So if
- 9:37Speaker 8: you'd like to buy a boat and you would like
- 9:39Speaker 8: me to be on your boat all summer, all you
- 9:41Speaker 8: have to do is feed and water meat and I
- 9:42Speaker 8: will be with you every.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Step of the way except for the signing on the line.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Yeah and uh so, yeah, that's a that's a bargain.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It's a bargain at any price, right there. All right,
- 9:51Speaker 3: So Steve, we'll come out, come out and hang out
- 9:54Speaker 3: with you at Barrow one on one Tonight've been into
- 9:56Speaker 3: tomorrow Sleepy Hollow, tom I appreciate you being here. Give
- 9:58Speaker 3: us the details again, the phone numbers that where people
- 10:01Speaker 3: can can sign up because we're still got room.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Yeah, the why numbers three or four, seven, five, seven, zero,
- 10:06Speaker 6: zero one six. If you need help and can't get through,
- 10:09Speaker 6: there is contacting me at the office at Peyton Law
- 10:11Speaker 6: Firm A three or four seven, five five, five five
- 10:15Speaker 6: five six.
- 10:15Speaker 7: If you want to.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Help, we'll find a way, whether there's a we can
- 10:18Speaker 6: get whole sponsor signs made or not.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Uh. And if you want to play.
- 10:23Speaker 6: Sleepy Hollow, which is otherwise a private club, give us
- 10:27Speaker 6: a call and get a teammate and just need four
- 10:28Speaker 6: people of any skill level. We're also I'm sponsoring a
- 10:32Speaker 6: whole in one contest too, so if you get in
- 10:34Speaker 6: to the event or transforming what is normally a par
- 10:39Speaker 6: four number nine, one of the best holes in the
- 10:41Speaker 6: state of West Virginia, has voted a point in the
- 10:43Speaker 6: Metro News pole years ago to a short par three
- 10:46Speaker 6: where you can win twenty thousand dollars if you make.
- 10:48Speaker 6: It's about one hundred and sixty yards. So you know,
- 10:51Speaker 6: my skills aren't that good. But for somebody player, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 6: one hundred and sixty yards is not that far. I mean,
- 10:57Speaker 6: your odds are against you, but you know that's the
- 11:01Speaker 6: green We're focusitting on the patio, be looking over waiting
- 11:04Speaker 6: for you to make that hole in one, and when
- 11:06Speaker 6: you're twenty grand, we certainly want somebody to win it.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I'll have my beer in the air, cheering on, come
- 11:10Speaker 3: on do it.
- 11:11Speaker 6: You can be our legal observer to verify that the
- 11:15Speaker 6: horn one was made. I am, I'm not sure you're
- 11:17Speaker 6: credible enough.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'll try and again, all all the proceeds from everything,
- 11:21Speaker 3: whether it's the golf outing tomorrow or the event tomorrow night,
- 11:25Speaker 3: the party that you're going to have, and again, if
- 11:27Speaker 3: you can't make the golf tournament, maybe you're not a golfer,
- 11:29Speaker 3: maybe you can't get off work or whatever, remember you
- 11:32Speaker 3: can just come to the party. Just come to the party.
- 11:35Speaker 6: I think you can pay on site. It's fifty dollars
- 11:37Speaker 6: for a single, ninety for a couple. So if you're
- 11:40Speaker 6: thinking about something to do and the weather's nice and
- 11:42Speaker 6: you've got a date night, great place to go. Great
- 11:45Speaker 6: place to go is going to be warm one way
- 11:46Speaker 6: or another, and good music, good company, beer wines included
- 11:50Speaker 6: in great food. And you know that starts about five
- 11:54Speaker 6: o'clock social hour, But if you get there six seven,
- 11:58Speaker 6: seven thirty, it'll still be rocking and rolling until least
- 12:02Speaker 6: till nine plus.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Bro Okay, all right, Tom, appreciate you doing this. Thanks
- 12:07Speaker 3: for having it's it's a great organization and I know
- 12:10Speaker 3: that you folks yourself personally at Peyton Law Firm are a
- 12:13Speaker 3: big part of this, so we appreciate you being here.

- 12:18Speaker 3: you'll be broadcasting live a lot over the next year.

- 15:14Speaker 7: of softball, little baseball, high school sports, kind of winding down.
- 15:19Speaker 3: It's yeah, it's it's an interesting time in the world
- 15:22Speaker 3: of high school sports because, you know, the kids, and
- 15:25Speaker 3: for that matter, the parents and the teachers have got
- 15:26Speaker 3: all of their attention on graduation, you know, right now,
- 15:30Speaker 3: that's what they're thinking about. But there's also you know,
- 15:32Speaker 3: the baseball softball regionals getting ready for tournaments and so
- 15:35Speaker 3: on and so.
- 15:36Speaker 7: Forth, and then you have to deal with mother Nature.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's not been very kind to us here
- 15:40Speaker 3: as of late.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Now I'm going down to your stopping grounds tonight, going
- 15:43Speaker 7: down to Man, West Virginia.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Oh, what's going on in the Tridelfia District.
- 15:47Speaker 7: Well, Wohamma Baseball is taking on Man Baseball. That's part
- 15:51Speaker 7: of the attorney and our station wj H carries Wohama
- 15:55Speaker 7: and we're going to broadcast the game.
- 15:57Speaker 3: All right, Well, say hello to my good buddy Mike Crosby,
- 16:00Speaker 3: who is the baseball coach and has been for something.
- 16:04Speaker 3: He's he's a Cleveland Browns fan, though he's a real bit,
- 16:07Speaker 3: real huge, big time Brown fan.
- 16:09Speaker 7: Carrie is quite the burden.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Then, yes he does, Yes he does. But I would
- 16:13Speaker 3: give a big shout out to Mike and uh, you know,
- 16:15Speaker 3: he's and I've been friends for a number of years
- 16:17Speaker 3: and he is a great guy who's done great things
- 16:19Speaker 3: with that with that baseball program down there. We do
- 16:23Speaker 3: pretty well with baseball down in my section of the
- 16:25Speaker 3: where I'm from originally, I mean Chapmanville, Logan, h Man.
- 16:30Speaker 3: We're always we're always right there in baseball.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I love that.
- 16:33Speaker 7: I love that stadium down and down and down in
- 16:35Speaker 7: Logan with the seats out of the boy the Braves.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that was those actually came from the old Fulton
- 16:40Speaker 3: County Stadium, Uh, the home of the Braves of those. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 3: that's Roger Gertz Field on Littleburg Island.
- 16:47Speaker 7: Yeah. My son Michael played for g W and we'd
- 16:50Speaker 7: go down there a couple of times a year and
- 16:52Speaker 7: I enjoyed it. It was a great place, all right.
- 16:54Speaker 3: So the reason I brought you here today, I caught
- 16:56Speaker 3: your appearance on Inside West Virginia Politics show locally on
- 17:01Speaker 3: here in the Charleston Huntington Market and wwk E thirteen
- 17:04Speaker 3: over the weekend with Rick Johnson, and you're talking about
- 17:06Speaker 3: some issues with the Kanawah County Ambulance Service.
- 17:09Speaker 7: One are the issues, Well, so what has happened over
- 17:12Speaker 7: a period of time. The delivery of ambulance services has changed,
- 17:16Speaker 7: the business model has changed, and so Kanawha County has
- 17:20Speaker 7: felt those changes and they need to deal with a deficit.
- 17:26Speaker 7: They have plenty of cash on hand to soft land that,
- 17:29Speaker 7: but they've got a deficit that they're working for. And
- 17:32Speaker 7: then they also have some workforce issues that they're working
- 17:34Speaker 7: through because it's tough to recruit and retain paramedics in
- 17:39Speaker 7: the state of West Virginia. And then the delivery system
- 17:43Speaker 7: and has changed. So we used to have a model
- 17:46Speaker 7: where the emergency ambulance providers for the most part, did
- 17:49Speaker 7: the non emergency transport transports as well as the emergency transports. Well,
- 17:55Speaker 7: now you have third party companies that are providing that,
- 17:58Speaker 7: and so that revenue stream has moved away way. Also,
- 18:01Speaker 7: you have some healthcare hospitals that are now doing their
- 18:04Speaker 7: own inter facility transports that ambulance services used to do.
- 18:09Speaker 7: That that's had a negative impact on revenue and so
- 18:13Speaker 7: it's just been a number of things that have come
- 18:15Speaker 7: to fruition. And so what Kanawa County Ambulance is looking
- 18:18Speaker 7: to do in the board and got a great board
- 18:21Speaker 7: and got some great folks, and then working with the
- 18:24Speaker 7: County Commission is how do we redesign Kanawa County Ambulance
- 18:29Speaker 7: to meet the needs not only financially but more importantly
- 18:33Speaker 7: quality wise in the coming years. And so they're embarking
- 18:36Speaker 7: on a process to do that.
- 18:38Speaker 3: It's amazing how much emergency services have changed over the years.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I mean, I'm old enough to remember, especially you know
- 18:44Speaker 3: where I'm from, where there wasn't an ambulance service authority.
- 18:48Speaker 3: It was the local funeral homes that actually handle those
- 18:51Speaker 3: sort of thing. That's that's going back a little ways.
- 18:53Speaker 3: But but then we saw a shift in that.
- 18:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it used to be just like scoop
- 18:58Speaker 7: and take and if you made it, if you if
- 19:01Speaker 7: you made it to town and you were still breathing,
- 19:02Speaker 7: you'd get to the hospital, if not to get to
- 19:04Speaker 7: the funeral home. Now just joking, but it was. It's
- 19:07Speaker 7: a much different and with technology things have changed. So
- 19:10Speaker 7: it used to be in the eighties and nineties when
- 19:13Speaker 7: you're good buddy Roger Bryant down at Logan e MS
- 19:15Speaker 7: and he's going to come and look for you. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 7: I'm sure you know they did. They had radios that
- 19:21Speaker 7: might work depending on where you were in the community.
- 19:23Speaker 7: So it was more for the paramedics today for a
- 19:26Speaker 7: large number of the cause. Now there's still some problems
- 19:29Speaker 7: in some areas. They can connect the ambulances back to
- 19:31Speaker 7: the hospital. They have the technology that's it's a different situation.
- 19:35Speaker 7: You can GPS to the ambulances. So one of the
- 19:39Speaker 7: things they're looking at is the thing called tiered response.
- 19:42Speaker 7: How do you allocate the proper vehicle for the proper call.
- 19:47Speaker 7: And I'll give you an example. So say I sprained
- 19:49Speaker 7: my ankle and I have no other way to get
- 19:51Speaker 7: to the hospital by ambulance. It's a problem for the
- 19:55Speaker 7: most part, it's not life threatening, so that would be
- 19:59Speaker 7: a basic life support ambulance. You get on me and
- 20:04Speaker 7: I have a cardiac arrest. Here in the studio.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Don't do it here, please, it's a new studio. Do
- 20:08Speaker 3: it out in the hall.
- 20:08Speaker 7: Okay, I'll do it out in the hall. I'll do
- 20:10Speaker 7: it in Chris. Chris Lawrence is offre. Yeah, there you
- 20:13Speaker 7: in that situation, I need advanced life support. So how
- 20:17Speaker 7: do you dispatch the right ambulance because there's limited resources
- 20:21Speaker 7: in any ambulance company And so that's what they're working
- 20:24Speaker 7: with Metro so that they come up with a new
- 20:27Speaker 7: model for dispatch. And again technology has allowed this to happen.
- 20:32Speaker 7: Whereas thirty forty years ago it was the appropriate thing,
- 20:35Speaker 7: was the most was the closest ambulance. Today we can
- 20:38Speaker 7: do better.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Talk with Tom Sussman again an Ave Island show on
- 20:41Speaker 3: five Any Life brought to you in part by snap Fitness,
- 20:43Speaker 3: with a wide selection of equipment including free weights, cardio machine,
- 20:46Speaker 3: weights and more. They have five convenient locations Charleston, Hurricane, Winfield,
- 20:50Speaker 3: Barbersville and Milton business snapfitness dot Com from ward to sales.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Talk about the difficulty Tom in getting emergency services workers
- 20:58Speaker 3: and it's no different in cana A County than it
- 21:00Speaker 3: is in Pendleton County or anywhere for that matter. Talk
- 21:03Speaker 3: about that difficulty and what the ambulance service is doing
- 21:05Speaker 3: trying to get people to work.
- 21:07Speaker 10: Well.
- 21:07Speaker 7: One of the things that Kanalwa County is doing is
- 21:09Speaker 7: they have a training program and they're trying to create
- 21:11Speaker 7: their own paramedics in their own EMTs, But it really
- 21:14Speaker 7: comes down to what we pay paramedics across the board
- 21:18Speaker 7: in West Virginia and based on some statistics from the
- 21:22Speaker 7: West Virginia MS Coalition, it's kind of like the Hospital
- 21:24Speaker 7: Association for MS providers. You know, in Maryland they're paying
- 21:28Speaker 7: a minimum menially wage of twenty nine dollars and ninety
- 21:32Speaker 7: six cents an hour. In West Virginia it's twenty one
- 21:34Speaker 7: to fifty five. Ohio is twenty two to fifty. We're
- 21:38Speaker 7: twenty one fifty five. Pennsylvania's twenty five forty one. West
- 21:43Speaker 7: Virginia's twenty one fifty five. Hospitals want paramedics now, so
- 21:47Speaker 7: we're seeing other medical providers that we're competing for that
- 21:51Speaker 7: skill set.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Why do hospitals want paramedic because they have nursing shortages,
- 21:56Speaker 3: they have other shortages. It's a workforce, it's a circular
- 21:59Speaker 3: things as you need.
- 22:02Speaker 7: So you know, they're just in West Virginia we have
- 22:06Speaker 7: an older population. We don't have as many young people
- 22:09Speaker 7: going through the system. And then once you get that
- 22:11Speaker 7: that that credential, if you will, then you can take
- 22:14Speaker 7: that credential anywhere in the country.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Well, and I think that's and again, we can't solve
- 22:19Speaker 3: this in the ten minutes we have here, but I
- 22:21Speaker 3: think it speaks to a much larger issue here in
- 22:25Speaker 3: West Virginia town. Because that floored me when you said
- 22:27Speaker 3: hospitals want paramedics. I'm thinking why it never occurred to me, Well,
- 22:30Speaker 3: it's because they can't get nurses. I mean, what the heck? Man?
- 22:33Speaker 7: Well, but what you got to understand in West Virginia,
- 22:35Speaker 7: our big issue is that about seventy one percent of
- 22:38Speaker 7: our paya mix is coming from Medicare, Medicaid Peia governmental
- 22:43Speaker 7: payers and about thirty percent or lessons coming from private pay.
- 22:47Speaker 7: That would be the West Virginia radios, the new cores,
- 22:50Speaker 7: the gms, the private businesses. That's a real problem in
- 22:54Speaker 7: other states that Medicare Medicaid pie is about forty percent,
- 22:59Speaker 7: and it is about sixty percent. And I according to
- 23:03Speaker 7: folks with the Hospital Association, let me.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Get to this day balance showing five eighty lives brought
- 23:08Speaker 3: you a part by Huston's Pizza this month, Get a
- 23:10Speaker 3: large eighteen inch pepperoni pizza and order cinnamon bites only
- 23:13Speaker 3: twenty ninety nine. He didn't pick up or getting delivered
- 23:16Speaker 3: by going to Huston's Pizza Dot combat A. Textures said,
- 23:18Speaker 3: I would like to see ambulance services go back to
- 23:20Speaker 3: local fire stations. That's probably not going to happen, but
- 23:23Speaker 3: what's what's your thoughts on that.
- 23:26Speaker 7: I mean, again, the federal requirements, the state requirements. I
- 23:30Speaker 7: don't think fire departments can afford to operate a system
- 23:35Speaker 7: and maintain that. It's tough. You know, Charleston does have
- 23:39Speaker 7: it's only e MS through the fire service, but they
- 23:41Speaker 7: have a lot of resources. It was great today when
- 23:45Speaker 7: you could do that, but I think we've come further
- 23:48Speaker 7: in the expectation of what's got to be on those
- 23:50Speaker 7: ambulances and the staffing those ambulances. It's really tough for
- 23:54Speaker 7: the volunteer fire departments, and a lot of the volunteer
- 23:56Speaker 7: fire departments are having a hard time recruiting and retaining
- 23:59Speaker 7: their staff. And so it's it, you know.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I just want to tell me, I guess the bigger question,
- 24:05Speaker 3: and I said, we got a call to get to
- 24:06Speaker 3: I'll get to this momentarily. I think that my bigger
- 24:10Speaker 3: issue is is what are people doing? It's like everybody
- 24:14Speaker 3: that I have on whether it's on this show, or
- 24:16Speaker 3: the Metro News midday, and we talk about whether it's police,
- 24:19Speaker 3: whether it's emergency services, whether it's any occupation, whether it's
- 24:24Speaker 3: a public service or not. What are people doing?
- 24:28Speaker 7: And that's part of the.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Reason, because nobody can find anybody.
- 24:31Speaker 7: Well, and that's part of the whole work through tiered response.
- 24:35Speaker 7: So how do you do it better? How do you
- 24:38Speaker 7: make it more efficient and maintain quality? So yeah, I mean,
- 24:42Speaker 7: but the workforce issue is not just a EMS and
- 24:45Speaker 7: we also we have an aging population.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I get that, and we also have a lot of
- 24:49Speaker 3: people who choose to do nothing.
- 24:50Speaker 7: Let's just don't get political.
- 24:52Speaker 3: We're not going to get political. Let's go because you
- 24:55Speaker 3: and I can get political.
- 24:56Speaker 7: You know that. Well when I'm here on a political
- 24:57Speaker 7: head question, we can to have that.
- 24:59Speaker 3: I got you. Let's go to the phone. Somebody knows
- 25:01Speaker 3: a little something about emergency services. Our good friend Jim
- 25:03Speaker 3: Brown is with is Jimmy? You're on with Tom Setsman.
- 25:06Speaker 10: Go ahead, mister Sessman. How are you doing today?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Doing good?
- 25:10Speaker 2: Sir?
- 25:10Speaker 7: How are you doing?
- 25:11Speaker 10: I'm doing okay. I'm a number one saying of Kodal
- 25:15Speaker 10: kind of animal service. I considered it like my second family.
- 25:21Speaker 10: One I wanted to ask you. I was at one
- 25:24Speaker 10: of the last board meetings that and led the way
- 25:29Speaker 10: to get the paramedics and the EMTs a raised that
- 25:34Speaker 10: they surely deserved. Is there a way that it can
- 25:39Speaker 10: be set up that they would get some kind of
- 25:43Speaker 10: a pay raise, even though it might be small, like
- 25:47Speaker 10: two percent every year? So you know that it wouldn't
- 25:52Speaker 10: make people happier because they're trying to work two or
- 25:57Speaker 10: three jobs to maintain their family way.
- 26:01Speaker 7: You know, Jim, I think that we'd all like to
- 26:03Speaker 7: have that happen. I really can't speak for the finances.
- 26:08Speaker 7: My position really is as a spokesperson for that. But
- 26:12Speaker 7: what I will promise you that I'll do. I'll take
- 26:14Speaker 7: your concern and comment back to Monica Mason, who is
- 26:18Speaker 7: the director. I know that part of the sustainability that
- 26:21Speaker 7: we have to do at the Squad is begin to
- 26:24Speaker 7: work through the issues that we're talking about before. But
- 26:28Speaker 7: that that is a point that I will take back
- 26:30Speaker 7: to the folks here at the Squad.
- 26:32Speaker 10: Who knows me.
- 26:33Speaker 13: Well, Okay, I will, I will.
- 26:36Speaker 7: I will pass that on Jaim.
- 26:37Speaker 3: All right, Jim, we appreciate your phone call. Thanks a lot.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Twenty six minutes away from ten o'clock at eight Island
- 26:42Speaker 3: Show on five A d Life brought to you in
- 26:43Speaker 3: part by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection risk assessment
- 26:47Speaker 3: services designed to identify and to assess the presence of
- 26:49Speaker 3: lead based paint and buildings and other structures using a
- 26:52Speaker 3: three phase approach of inspection, sampling, the lab analysis, and
- 26:55Speaker 3: an assessment report. Visit Pinnacle court dot net. Because what
- 26:58Speaker 3: you don't know can't hurt you. Tom Susman is here.
- 27:01Speaker 3: What other news do you bring us from the Ambulance
- 27:04Speaker 3: Service today, sir.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Well, they're they're they're working on trying to increase their
- 27:10Speaker 7: billings from insurance companies. They're working through and did increase
- 27:14Speaker 7: to to the insurance companies. They're trying to be more
- 27:18Speaker 7: efficient that way. They're looking at their billing processes and
- 27:21Speaker 7: they're they're working through. There's an implementation committee that's been
- 27:25Speaker 7: set up by the board and that implementation committee is
- 27:29Speaker 7: basically looking at the at the operation and how best
- 27:32Speaker 7: to prepare it is it moves forward to be able
- 27:36Speaker 7: to meet the needs and be sustainable. If you can't
- 27:38Speaker 7: be sustainable, you can't meet your mission. And so a
- 27:42Speaker 7: lot of what we're doing is to be sustainable. Also,
- 27:45Speaker 7: have hats off to the folks at Metro. They're working
- 27:48Speaker 7: really closely with the folks at EMS on this tiered
- 27:50Speaker 7: response uh, and working closely with other folks in the community.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Uh. And again, I think sometimes people forget what a
- 27:59Speaker 3: big old county, Kanawa County is, I mean some square
- 28:03Speaker 3: largest county in the state. And if you if you
- 28:06Speaker 3: are down a person or two and you're in one
- 28:09Speaker 3: end of the county, and I know, I don't I
- 28:11Speaker 3: know that they try to keep them, you know, in
- 28:12Speaker 3: a centralized locations, but you know, response time it's about
- 28:17Speaker 3: as good as it can be. I guess right, Well,
- 28:19Speaker 3: we have a.
- 28:19Speaker 7: Really good response time. What happens sometimes is the emergency
- 28:22Speaker 7: rooms back up. Yeah, and so therefore we have units
- 28:25Speaker 7: in the emergency room there they're waiting to process those folks,
- 28:29Speaker 7: and then that can become a problem. But no, we
- 28:32Speaker 7: have a great there's a great staff of folks and
- 28:34Speaker 7: they're very dedicated to providing care and they're not centrally located.
- 28:40Speaker 7: They have them all throughout the county. Yeah, there's and uh, I.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Guess what I meant by that is that I would
- 28:45Speaker 3: imagine because I know other counties have done, is that
- 28:47Speaker 3: they try to get people, you know, to not have
- 28:52Speaker 3: somebody on one end of the county and then trying
- 28:54Speaker 3: to get them to the other.
- 28:55Speaker 7: That's part of the whole tiered response. How do you
- 28:58Speaker 7: have the appropriate for the appropriate call?
- 29:02Speaker 3: How much and I don't know if you're prepared to
- 29:04Speaker 3: speak about this or not. We'll do this and I'll
- 29:06Speaker 3: let you go. How much abuse is not really the
- 29:11Speaker 3: right word. We all hear these stories. And one of
- 29:15Speaker 3: my one of my good buddies is an EMT in
- 29:16Speaker 3: another county, uh and he talks about people calling the
- 29:20Speaker 3: ambulance services when they really don't need to. I don't
- 29:23Speaker 3: know if you want to speak to that or not,
- 29:25Speaker 3: but how much of that goes on where ambulances are
- 29:28Speaker 3: being in emergency services in general? Tom are being called
- 29:32Speaker 3: out to situations that aren't emergencies. It's somebody who needs
- 29:37Speaker 3: a ride somewhere, and it happens. I know it happens,
- 29:40Speaker 3: and I would suggest to you that it does happen.
- 29:43Speaker 3: One of the things that Knwa County Ambulance has developed
- 29:45Speaker 3: as a community PAAR and medicine program where they trying
- 29:48Speaker 3: to work with people in their homes a lot of
- 29:51Speaker 3: times though, you know, you have people who are by
- 29:53Speaker 3: themselves that are seniors and they have an issue and
- 29:55Speaker 3: they're concerned and and so, but they work for those
- 29:59Speaker 3: issues with It's difficult. Sometimes it's difficult. I mean I've
- 30:03Speaker 3: talked to like I said, you know, one of my
- 30:04Speaker 3: good friends in e MT and he said, I pick
- 30:08Speaker 3: up the same people sometimes multiple times a month because
- 30:11Speaker 3: they have chest pains to get a ride to the hospital.
- 30:13Speaker 3: They get checked out. They just want to ride to town.
- 30:16Speaker 3: And this is not Kanawa County, by the way. Yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 3: and you said, we have a mental health sitution. We
- 30:21Speaker 3: have a mental health crisis in the state and they're
- 30:23Speaker 3: working through it. And so's there's a number of issues,
- 30:26Speaker 3: but by and far it's it's not it's an issue.
- 30:30Speaker 7: It can be, yeah, but we hope that it's not.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Hope.
- 30:32Speaker 3: I believe it.
- 30:33Speaker 14: Here.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Tom's always a pleasure to talk to you. We managed
- 30:35Speaker 3: to not talk politics, but you know, you want, I
- 30:38Speaker 3: really do, and.
- 30:38Speaker 7: I'd like to come back we have a political discussion.
- 30:40Speaker 3: You tell me when you want to come back, and
- 30:42Speaker 3: we'll make it happen, all right, either here on the
- 30:44Speaker 3: state Wide show, because I mean I'll say this. I'm
- 30:47Speaker 3: just there's a little teas and I know the talk
- 30:50Speaker 3: line guys are going to get into it. I'm gonna
- 30:52Speaker 3: get I'm flying solo today, No Amanda Baron, so it's
- 30:54Speaker 3: just me today on Metro News Midday. I'm going to
- 30:56Speaker 3: get into this as well. That state school board meaning
- 30:58Speaker 3: I think it just ended like ten minutes ago from yesterday.
- 31:02Speaker 3: They had a lot of stuff and Brad's got the
- 31:04Speaker 3: lead story at wv metronews dot com about a lot
- 31:06Speaker 3: of stuff came out of that meeting yesterday.
- 31:08Speaker 2: That was it.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he says, yeah, I can't. I can't talk about
- 31:13Speaker 3: it right now. All right, Tom, Well we'll have you
- 31:15Speaker 3: on maybe one day next week talk some politics. So good,

- 34:26Speaker 3: running people out of town. I think that depends on
- 34:28Speaker 3: where you live. Because we had earlier in the week
- 34:32Speaker 3: on the Metro News midday show Cheap Plug, we had
- 34:35Speaker 3: the mayor of Martinsburg on, and they are exploding, absolutely
- 34:39Speaker 3: exploding up there with people coming in and they're I mean,
- 34:42Speaker 3: how many times in West Virginia do you hear about
- 34:44Speaker 3: people building new schools. Usually it's about consolidation. They're building.
- 34:48Speaker 3: They built at least one or two high schools up there.
- 34:50Speaker 3: They're going to build more. And the one one of
- 34:53Speaker 3: the ones that they built automatically was a quad A school,
- 34:58Speaker 3: meaning the large school out there used to be TRIPLEA.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Now it's squad A. So yeah, and where I live
- 35:03Speaker 3: in Putnam County, oh yeah, they're moving in. They are
- 35:06Speaker 3: one hundred percent moving in. Let's talk about a big
- 35:10Speaker 3: event going on over in Elk City. It's going to
- 35:11Speaker 3: be let Up Elk City District Block Party, happening this
- 35:15Speaker 3: Saturday noon to six. Music of all kinds, food trucks,
- 35:18Speaker 3: just a whole lot of fun. Jennifer Grayley is here
- 35:19Speaker 3: to talk about it. Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 35:21Speaker 13: Thank you, good morning.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Now what is your role in all this, Jennifer, I was.
- 35:25Speaker 13: An organizer of all this event, all.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Right, And so you're probably a little tired right now
- 35:29Speaker 3: at this point, right.
- 35:30Speaker 13: Yes I am.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It may have you scooty in just a little bit
- 35:33Speaker 3: on that microphone there, So start from the top. Tell
- 35:36Speaker 3: me what's going on.
- 35:37Speaker 5: So we as business owners in Elk City have noticed
- 35:40Speaker 5: that there wasn't much going on in our areas. So
- 35:43Speaker 5: we wanted to come together as business owners to try
- 35:45Speaker 5: to do events or host something to bring more people,
- 35:48Speaker 5: more traffic in to hopefully come into our businesses.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And the Elk City district has seen a definite upswing
- 35:55Speaker 3: in businesses over the last couple of years.
- 35:57Speaker 13: Yes, it has.
- 35:58Speaker 5: We have had several new businesses come in the last
- 36:01Speaker 5: probably two years.
- 36:02Speaker 3: And what are some of the businesses over there for
- 36:04Speaker 3: people that may not be familiar with them.
- 36:06Speaker 5: So now we have the Sergio's and then we have
- 36:08Speaker 5: Albuquerque Southwest Mexican Bar and Grow.
- 36:11Speaker 3: And they're both about the same. There's Sergio Lamada and
- 36:14Speaker 3: I tell you he owns a restaurant in Hurricane where
- 36:17Speaker 3: I live. That's absolutely fantastic. And so if you get
- 36:19Speaker 3: a chance cheap plug for Sergio, go, that's right, go
- 36:23Speaker 3: and and enjoy his fair. But he owns both places there, right, Yes.
- 36:26Speaker 13: He owns both of them.
- 36:27Speaker 5: And now he has his liquor license for the Mexican place,
- 36:30Speaker 5: and now we're all set to go with that all right.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Now, A lot and a lot of other great businesses over
- 36:34Speaker 3: there as well.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Yes, we have a love selfie place that comes that
- 36:37Speaker 5: you can come and take pictures. They have like a
- 36:39Speaker 5: whole studio. There's a new sage place that's a hair
- 36:43Speaker 5: beauty suplon that's over there that she just.
- 36:47Speaker 13: Recently moved in. We just now got a wine down.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Bar that's w I n E. Boss.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Yes so, And like I said, our area is the
- 36:55Speaker 5: only area that you have a distillery, a wine bar,
- 36:58Speaker 5: a brewery and a meter on the same block where
- 37:02Speaker 5: you can.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Walk a meter ree. Yes, I like that something on
- 37:06Speaker 3: here every day in West Virginia.
- 37:07Speaker 5: That's right, Dave has the meter Rei's called wandering when meaty.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Let's talk about the event on Saturday. You got food trucks,
- 37:15Speaker 3: you got music, you got everything.
- 37:17Speaker 13: I have a little bit of everything.
- 37:18Speaker 5: So we have about twenty five vendors that are coming
- 37:21Speaker 5: that are setting up. I have five different local bands,
- 37:25Speaker 5: minor swings, Jim Snyder, we got our Fruit Strangers, we
- 37:31Speaker 5: got Charles Murphy. They're all coming to perform for us.
- 37:34Speaker 5: We have a whole kids area that will be free.
- 37:37Speaker 5: We have three inflatables and a free face painting Lady
- 37:40Speaker 5: by Lisa alto that's provided by the neighborhood shop.
- 37:45Speaker 3: And again, the great thing about this is is, of
- 37:48Speaker 3: course you're going to have food trucks. We'll get in
- 37:49Speaker 3: those a little bit later on. And well you mentioned
- 37:51Speaker 3: some of them already, a lot of great food there.
- 37:53Speaker 3: But if the family wants to bring the kids out,
- 37:56Speaker 3: or you just want to go out, you can go
- 37:57Speaker 3: over there and have a good time and not spend
- 37:59Speaker 3: a single time. We want you to. We want you
- 38:01Speaker 3: to go into these businesses, and we want you to
- 38:03Speaker 3: we're taking the food trucks, but if you don't have
- 38:05Speaker 3: the funds whatever, you can just come out and have
- 38:07Speaker 3: a good time absolutely free of charge.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Yes, it's completely free to the public. So come out,
- 38:12Speaker 5: enjoy the music and look around at the vendors, go
- 38:15Speaker 5: to the local businesses, shops around. There's tons, there's food trucks,
- 38:19Speaker 5: there's the kids free areas. So if you don't want
- 38:22Speaker 5: to come and spend money and just bring your kids
- 38:25Speaker 5: out and enjoy the free kids area that we're providing.
- 38:27Speaker 3: And talk about other than just the business aspect of it.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I know that's kind of what you're focusing on, but
- 38:33Speaker 3: the growth of the Elk City District other than just
- 38:35Speaker 3: the business. I mean, this is becoming the happening place
- 38:40Speaker 3: in Charleston, and it's because of a lot of great
- 38:42Speaker 3: volunteers and the business owners, but also a lot of
- 38:45Speaker 3: people that just care about the community, that want to
- 38:48Speaker 3: want to make this a destination in Charleston, and it's
- 38:51Speaker 3: becoming that, Yes it is.
- 38:52Speaker 5: That's part why we did this block party is we
- 38:55Speaker 5: have a lot of local community people that are around
- 38:59Speaker 5: that want to see things in our area, that want
- 39:01Speaker 5: to have stuff. So we decided as business owners to
- 39:04Speaker 5: come together to do this to help bring our community
- 39:07Speaker 5: together and bring others into the community.
- 39:09Speaker 3: We had a text here somebody wanted to know if
- 39:11Speaker 3: it was pet friendly.
- 39:12Speaker 13: Yes, it is pet friend.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I'll figure it to being outdoors. Yeah, it shouldn't be
- 39:15Speaker 3: a problem. So yeah, bring your pets and come on
- 39:17Speaker 3: over there and enjoy it. If somebody is listening right
- 39:20Speaker 3: now and they want to be involved as a vendor,
- 39:22Speaker 3: do you still have space space available?
- 39:24Speaker 5: Unfortunately I have filled up all my space for vendors.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Well plan for next year that's.
- 39:29Speaker 5: Well, hopefully we'll have one during the summer. We're planning
- 39:32Speaker 5: on having more. If we can have a great one.
- 39:34Speaker 13: This time.
- 39:34Speaker 5: We're hoping to have more in the summer bring and
- 39:37Speaker 5: we're looking at new different ideas to have to bring
- 39:40Speaker 5: more people in for.
- 39:41Speaker 3: This and that's and that's a really good idea. You
- 39:43Speaker 3: could do it monthly, you could do it quarterly, whatever
- 39:45Speaker 3: the case may be. I mean, there's a lot of
- 39:47Speaker 3: events already going on over there. And again it's about
- 39:50Speaker 3: these these business owners and the residents of that area
- 39:53Speaker 3: coming together and saying, hey, we want to make this
- 39:56Speaker 3: a destination. And it's becoming that. And it's already that
- 39:58Speaker 3: with these with these different restaurants and things that you
- 40:01Speaker 3: have there.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Yes, we have monthly meetings with our business owners, so
- 40:05Speaker 5: we all come together trying to come up with ideas
- 40:07Speaker 5: or new things to happen in our area. We work together,
- 40:11Speaker 5: that's the thing. Our small businesses come together and we work.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Together and explain for people that are listening that may
- 40:16Speaker 3: not be familiar with the area exactly where it is.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Well, it's right. Well, the best part is this right
- 40:22Speaker 5: off the interstate. It's easy access from it to get
- 40:25Speaker 5: on and off the access. So it's like along the
- 40:27Speaker 5: Pennsylvania Avenue. It goes from Pennsylvania Avenue and down Washington
- 40:33Speaker 5: Street West. The block party is on Tennessee Avenue, so
- 40:38Speaker 5: it's right there in the middle, kind.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Of and all kinds of different music, all kinds of
- 40:41Speaker 3: different foods, things for the kids. It's pet friendly, so
- 40:44Speaker 3: we got that taken care of. In the hours. It
- 40:46Speaker 3: starts at noon, right, it starts.
- 40:47Speaker 5: At noon, goes to six, and we also have Poda
- 40:49Speaker 5: and effect. Now, so you're welcome to go to our
- 40:51Speaker 5: local brewery which is our Charleston Nanabrew or the Wine Down,
- 40:55Speaker 5: grab you a cup and walk over to the festival.
- 40:57Speaker 3: That's been a huge success, has it not not only
- 41:00Speaker 3: in that in the Elk City district, but in other
- 41:02Speaker 3: areas as well.
- 41:03Speaker 13: Yes, it has all.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Right, Jennifer. You have a Facebook page or website or
- 41:08Speaker 3: anything for more information.
- 41:09Speaker 5: Yeah, well, we have our Charleston Nana Brewery page and

- 45:16Speaker 3: in several lost generations. Large coal mining and oil and
- 45:19Speaker 3: gas companies extracted all value they could and then left,
- 45:22Speaker 3: while our communities are stuck with all negative consequences and

- 46:59Speaker 3: me today the lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com.
- 47:02Speaker 3: I think the state school Board meeting is still going on.
- 47:06Speaker 3: It was a long one. Brad writes about it this morning.
- 47:08Speaker 3: The state Board assessing their options in dealing with the
- 47:12Speaker 3: Governor's policy to allow religious exemptions when it comes to
- 47:15Speaker 3: vaccination requirements. Now, this all goes back to the executive
- 47:18Speaker 3: order from Governor Morrissey issued during the governor's first week
- 47:22Speaker 3: in office. And you will recall that the governor called
- 47:26Speaker 3: for specific legislation to allow families to declare religious and
- 47:29Speaker 3: philosophical exemptions to the VACS requirements. Now it died in
- 47:33Speaker 3: the legislature, of course. And you'll also recall the state
- 47:36Speaker 3: Superintendent of Schools, Michelle Blatt, issued a directive to county
- 47:40Speaker 3: school boards to follow the current law and not the
- 47:42Speaker 3: executive order and was later rescinded that to memo that
- 47:46Speaker 3: went out, and at the meeting yesterday, the state Board
- 47:48Speaker 3: basically just said they're going to take it up in
- 47:51Speaker 3: meetings this summer. This whole thing is going to court.
- 47:55Speaker 3: As you may expect, Ohio County has already asked for
- 48:00Speaker 3: legal opinion. Side notes. Superintendent Blat will be on talkline
- 48:03Speaker 3: with Wilson and Meadows today. That should be interesting. There
- 48:06Speaker 3: were several speakers at the meeting yesterday. One of those
- 48:08Speaker 3: State Democratic Party chairing Delegate Mike Pushkin Hill also be
- 48:11Speaker 3: on talk line today and in other news from the meeting,
- 48:15Speaker 3: there was a lot of news came out of there.
- 48:17Speaker 3: The state Board voted to take control of both the
- 48:19Speaker 3: Tyler and Nicholas County school systems. Now I'm going to
- 48:22Speaker 3: get into the Nicholas County situation on midday today during
- 48:25Speaker 3: the two o'clock hour. And if we need more education news,
- 48:29Speaker 3: Amelia Farrell nicely writing about this at West Virginia Watch.
- 48:33Speaker 3: The Ward of Education of the state will now sue
- 48:36Speaker 3: over the recently past bill that gives lawmakers the ultimate
- 48:39Speaker 3: authority over school board policy. Now you knew that was
- 48:42Speaker 3: coming as well. House Built twenty seven to fifty five.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Amelia will be on Metro News midday with me to
- 48:48Speaker 3: talk about that today. And as if you need something
- 48:52Speaker 3: else to think about as it pertains to our court
- 48:54Speaker 3: system in schools, word is a transit student, maybe compete.
- 48:58Speaker 3: He actually is competing in the regional track and field
- 49:01Speaker 3: of its and may possibly make it to the states.
- 49:04Speaker 3: So yeah, more court stuff coming up the Dave Island
- 49:07Speaker 3: showing five any Lie brought to you apart by Morgan
- 49:09Speaker 3: to Morgan speaking of courts with more than twenty billion
- 49:11Speaker 3: dollars recovered, they believe when you're injured, you deserve more.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. How you doing, TJ.
- 49:18Speaker 14: Meadows something man, Happy birthday to Ben Slango.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Happy birthday, mister Solango. Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. County Commissioner,
- 49:26Speaker 3: sponsor of Metro News podcaster podcasting A little bit of
- 49:29Speaker 3: everything that guy does leads the band at halftime. I'm told,
- 49:32Speaker 3: hind of like you a little bit of everything. I
- 49:35Speaker 3: don't know about that. What was this you sent me
- 49:36Speaker 3: last night? I mean, I'm getting ready to go to
- 49:39Speaker 3: bed last night because I'm old, and you send me something. No,
- 49:44Speaker 3: it's usually when I go to bed and I wake up,
- 49:46Speaker 3: you know, I fall asleep at like nine o'clock and
- 49:48Speaker 3: then I wake up and look at my phone say well,
- 49:50Speaker 3: I'm going to send this out before I go. But yeah,
- 49:52Speaker 3: you sent me this last night. Uh, they called you.
- 49:54Speaker 3: It's somebody called Organized Chaos called you lover boy out
- 49:58Speaker 3: here to thirsteen over the the richest of the rich.
- 50:01Speaker 3: It's a nice picture of you and everything here. Why
- 50:03Speaker 3: what's it all? It's not really me.
- 50:05Speaker 14: I guess they could have just taken my picture off
- 50:07Speaker 14: the Metro News website or X or something like that.
- 50:09Speaker 14: But instead they had Ai. If you zoom in on it,
- 50:12Speaker 14: they had Ai make a TJ replica, which I think
- 50:15Speaker 14: is kind of cool.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Oh that was Ai. That's Ai. If you zoom in,
- 50:17Speaker 3: it's not me, Okay, it looks like me from this
- 50:20Speaker 3: what is that in reference to? I mean, what did
- 50:21Speaker 3: you do?
- 50:22Speaker 14: So yesterday on talk line I made the outlandish bold.
- 50:26Speaker 14: I guess some would say just plain wrong, although I
- 50:29Speaker 14: believe it assertion that the quote unquote rich, which is
- 50:33Speaker 14: what is rich? By the way, let's have a conversation
- 50:35Speaker 14: on that.
- 50:36Speaker 3: It's like the media pay their fair share? Yeah, pay
- 50:38Speaker 3: their fair share.
- 50:40Speaker 14: Seventy five percent of the income tax in this country
- 50:43Speaker 14: is paid by the top ten percent. The bottom applauding
- 50:48Speaker 14: by the way, the bottom fifty percent pay two point
- 50:51Speaker 14: three percent. So you say you want them to pay more.
- 50:56Speaker 14: Come on, they're already paying more than their fair share.
- 50:58Speaker 14: Well it's a progressive tax, mister Meadows. Yeah, and how
- 51:03Speaker 14: is that equitable? Look, if you tax someone into the
- 51:08Speaker 14: stone age, they're eventually going to stop what they're doing.
- 51:12Speaker 14: And people are like, well, you know, Triviadi one economics
- 51:15Speaker 14: doesn't work. I told a little personal anecdote one of
- 51:17Speaker 14: the highlights of my career. I went to work for
- 51:19Speaker 14: a small family owned business. Guy gave me ten million
- 51:23Speaker 14: dollars to go do something because he wanted to start
- 51:25Speaker 14: a business. I've never had someone hand me ten million dollars.
- 51:27Speaker 14: I appreciate the trust. I learned a lot. You know what, Dave,
- 51:30Speaker 14: a poor person never handed me ten million dollars. I'm
- 51:33Speaker 14: not being pejorative of poor I'm just saying these people,
- 51:35Speaker 14: they invest, they start businesses, they do things with their capital.
- 51:39Speaker 14: These are not bad things. And I'm tired of the same,
- 51:43Speaker 14: I said tired. So anyway, that was the result of
- 51:46Speaker 14: that nice little picture on Twitter there that I'm the
- 51:49Speaker 14: GOP lover boy, and if only poor people paid more taxes,
- 51:53Speaker 14: we'd have flying cars by now, I think was the quotes.
- 51:55Speaker 3: All right, let me read the sex whiles as the texture.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Trying to blame the GOP for people nothing but lazy
- 52:01Speaker 3: and not being personally responsible for themselves is pathetic desperation
- 52:05Speaker 3: at trying your darkness to convince yourself to progressivism is
- 52:08Speaker 3: actually something that people here want talk about. Derangement. That
- 52:11Speaker 3: was a text aimed at a text. All right, quickly, quickly,
- 52:15Speaker 3: like twenty seconds, quickly, what's on the show today?
- 52:17Speaker 14: Michelle Blat ten o six, Mike Pushkin ten thirty three,
- 52:20Speaker 14: Hompy on set at eleven six, Brad Mack in the
- 52:24Speaker 14: house at eleven thirty three.
