Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, Dan are here. Thanks for checking out the show. Now.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Some of you may or may not be aware, but
- 0:05Speaker 1: back in twenty fifteen, I launched this podcast with my
- 0:08Speaker 1: co host at the time, Mitch, and we reviewed every
- 0:11Speaker 1: episode of the first ten seasons, released a book called
- 0:14Speaker 1: Homer's Odyssey and am Big and Simpson's Guide, and pretty
- 0:17Speaker 1: much just lay the foundation for what has become the
- 0:19Speaker 1: four Finger Discount Network. Fast forward to twenty twenty, Mitch
- 0:23Speaker 1: decided to take a break from podcasting to focus on
- 0:26Speaker 1: things like family and work, and that's where Guy entered
- 0:29Speaker 1: the equation and has been doing a sensational job since
- 0:31Speaker 1: and we'll continue to do so. But now six years later,
- 0:35Speaker 1: Mitch is also back, and he and I are kicking
- 0:37Speaker 1: off where we left off by reviewing season eleven of
- 0:40Speaker 1: The Simpsons and onwards exclusively for our Patreon. We just
- 0:43Speaker 1: released our review of Guesses Coming to Criticizedda, a really
- 0:46Speaker 1: fun episode which you're going to be getting a sneak
- 0:48Speaker 1: peek at here. And if you like what you hear
- 0:51Speaker 1: and you want to hear more Mitch and Dando each
- 0:52Speaker 1: and every month, you can do so by joining the
- 0:55Speaker 1: four Finger Discount family on Patreon, where all of your
- 0:57Speaker 1: support is much appreciated and is so pivotal to the
- 1:00Speaker 1: survival of the forefinger discount that way, But thank you
- 1:03Speaker 1: again for checking out the show, and I hope you
- 1:05Speaker 1: enjoy Mitch and Danda reviewing. Guess who's coming to criticize you?
- 1:08Speaker 1: See you all next week with Guy.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well least you like the food.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oh I like food, alright. I like Pitza, I like Babelds.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I like hot dogs with mustard and bee.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I get the picture.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Charlie day Plan, I couldn't even need a baby.
- 1:26Speaker 3: De la la la la la.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Who's that baby?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Do you run the lower four finger discounting?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Once in a great while, we are privileged to experience
- 1:52Speaker 1: a podcast event so extraordinary it becomes part of our
- 1:55Speaker 1: shared heritage. Twenty ten The concept of true crime podcast
- 1:59Speaker 1: is twenty thirteen, Mark Maroon releases these first podcast episode.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Then for a long time, nothing happened until tonight. Behold
- 2:08Speaker 1: the future of podcasting. It's a bitch. Hey, he's back.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Nothing happened that includes our own.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Show it when we only released a book.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I can see that there.
- 2:18Speaker 1: It's nice.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It's nice to be back, Dando. It's necessary to be back. Truthfully,
- 2:24Speaker 3: I've fallen on half times.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Why are you here?
- 2:26Speaker 3: Well, a lot of people won't know this, but I've
- 2:27Speaker 3: actually spent the last five or six years operating Jackie.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Oh.
- 2:31Speaker 3: This is a little bit of an industry insider thing.
- 2:33Speaker 3: She is not a real human. She's a very early
- 2:36Speaker 3: AI model, but they didn't have the processing power back
- 2:39Speaker 3: then to handle movement of speech. So I see it
- 2:42Speaker 3: in a control booth and I kind of move her
- 2:44Speaker 3: around the Kiss FM studios. It was the only way
- 2:47Speaker 3: they could get anyone to spend that much time in
- 2:49Speaker 3: a room with Kyle Sandalance. Year after year after year.
- 2:52Speaker 3: It was if they weren't real. But now that's all
- 2:54Speaker 3: fucked up, so I've lost my payday. Sophie Monk, I
- 2:57Speaker 3: applied for that, but that guy, the guy that controls her,
- 3:00Speaker 3: is on a watertight contract. So sitting at home thinking
- 3:03Speaker 3: what am I gonna do? And then out of the blue,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you sent me a message. She said, look, I'll buy
- 3:08Speaker 3: you a tank of fuel if you come around and
- 3:09Speaker 3: record six hundred hours worth of podcast And I was like,
- 3:12Speaker 3: that seems like it's a pretty good hourly rate. So
- 3:14Speaker 3: here I am.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Kyl Sanderlands would you rather drop your pants for food
- 3:19Speaker 1: or work with Kyl Sanders?
- 3:21Speaker 3: I would rather drop my pants for prison.
- 3:27Speaker 1: A Stables's character, whoever that was in OZ? What was
- 3:29Speaker 1: Stables character?
- 3:30Speaker 3: I don't know. OZ is a traumatic experience for me
- 3:35Speaker 3: is like a nightmare that you blank on as soon
- 3:38Speaker 3: as you wake up, and all that you know happened
- 3:40Speaker 3: is that you were sweating and afraid.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I remember watching every episode and then I sort
- 3:44Speaker 1: of forgot about the show and we watched SVU for
- 3:46Speaker 1: years back, and I was like a stable you turn to.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, Oz, Oh my god, what was
- 3:53Speaker 1: the one blood of my dick or shitter my knife? No, no, no,
- 3:57Speaker 1: my dick or blood of my knife.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Whatever you whatever it is, whatever it is, neither of
- 4:02Speaker 3: those things should be about it. I was what did
- 4:06Speaker 3: I watched yesterday during number two? And Jak goan, Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 3: it's pretty good. But JK. Simmons is just kind of
- 4:13Speaker 3: lovely in it, and it's just I can't compute it
- 4:18Speaker 3: because his OZ character still rains so large and everything
- 4:22Speaker 3: that he's ever done.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We're talking to Billy West about him recently, because he's
- 4:25Speaker 1: the yellow Eminem and Billy is the red I did
- 4:27Speaker 1: not know that. Yeah, and that's where they did he
- 4:29Speaker 1: take over from. No, he was the very He's always
- 4:31Speaker 1: been the yellow eminem and Billy's always been the red.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Why did I think Phil Harmon was involved in the eminems?
- 4:36Speaker 2: No?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Phil Harmon was going to be Zap Brannigan before he passed,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and then Billy obviously was given a role and it
- 4:41Speaker 1: was a Phil Hartmon tribute. Is that Brannigan for futuremer
- 4:44Speaker 1: But no, they've always been the eminem But he said, yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 1: he's absolutely lovely to work for with. Yeah, okay, interesting,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but we're here today to review which episode because what
- 4:51Speaker 1: happened is we started a podcast in twenty fifteen and
- 4:54Speaker 1: after a few years or you got to the point
- 4:56Speaker 1: where you stopped watching The Simpsons. Yeah, on a regular basis.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, we got past the point that I had connected
- 5:01Speaker 3: with it from from my youth, and it felt like
- 5:04Speaker 3: too big of a transition, particularly because we were just
- 5:06Speaker 3: doing this week on week on week that suddenly I
- 5:09Speaker 3: had stepped into a period where I was like, I
- 5:11Speaker 3: don't think I'm going to be able to give the
- 5:13Speaker 3: best take on this to the audience that for what
- 5:15Speaker 3: they're gonna.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Want, I think this is the first time since you
- 5:18Speaker 1: left the show that you've recorded a Simpsons podcast review
- 5:21Speaker 1: in this room. I think it is, Yeah, because we
- 5:23Speaker 1: did it over zoom or whatever it was, and it's
- 5:25Speaker 1: just not the same. Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Well like COVID had happened around that time, and.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you left and the inn COVID appened.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, not only that, it's the first time I've been
- 5:33Speaker 3: to the house for quite a while. Like I come here,
- 5:35Speaker 3: there's a hold and parked out the front. You don't
- 5:37Speaker 3: have a novelty door mat Genuinely.
- 5:39Speaker 1: It's like I grew up. We've got books on his shelf.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I mean books about the Simpsons, but still.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Actually and other things. Got warning book up there. Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 1: Patrick Stewarts in Curry's book Michael Richards book talk about
- 5:55Speaker 1: Michael Richards.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I think so he came.
- 5:59Speaker 1: The time has passed right over that didn't. I feel
- 6:01Speaker 1: like he's been forgived. It was him he had to
- 6:03Speaker 1: get over our reaction to it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, i'd certainly I think that if you
- 6:07Speaker 3: talk in power rankings, that Michael Richards is above Will
- 6:10Speaker 3: Smith or something like that in terms of.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Things that have happened since you left. Will Smith's career
- 6:16Speaker 1: is worse than ours.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, he won an Academy Award and then blew
- 6:19Speaker 3: his career up in the same night.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, no, so he no, he did it first. Yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 1: but it all happened on the same night. You're right,
- 6:25Speaker 1: But it's like he won the award. Everyone's like, do
- 6:27Speaker 1: we clap?
- 6:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not what you want as the first actor.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't wasn't great. But so I've had another child.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Both my children are now starting school. You've had a child.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I've had a child.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was never on the cards when you're
- 6:38Speaker 1: doing the podcast. No, you were not going to become
- 6:41Speaker 1: a father.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So there's probably some very incriminating evidence of.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Me on record. I don't go back and listen to
- 6:48Speaker 1: the old ones. People are like, he should go back
- 6:50Speaker 1: and like cut out because you guys are always talking
- 6:51Speaker 1: about big Big Roddy's ribbon, ribbons shack whatever it was called.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Look, I actually take pride in the fact that we've
- 6:56Speaker 3: outlasted a lot of our sponsors.
- 6:58Speaker 1: They're still going though, are they. Yeah, you'ready still going
- 7:00Speaker 1: on your ruddy Yeah? Were you? No, you didn't come
- 7:02Speaker 1: I never went there, no, Yeah, because I was in Queensland.
- 7:04Speaker 1: My friends with Friends. Yeah, I just gave us so
- 7:06Speaker 1: much ribs it was great. Yeah, yeah, I mentioned Big
- 7:10Speaker 1: Rodd's ribs again. Maybe even get in touch with it.
- 7:11Speaker 1: They can sponsor this show. Do you reckon? Is this
- 7:14Speaker 1: isn't four finger discount? What is this now?
- 7:16Speaker 3: Is it not fourth finger discount?
- 7:17Speaker 1: Well? Fourthing a discount is like the I guess it is.
- 7:20Speaker 1: It's like a it's weird because this is the original
- 7:23Speaker 1: fourthinger discounting. But it's like, is this this is exclusive
- 7:26Speaker 1: for Patreon? Is this like a sub category of fourthing
- 7:29Speaker 1: a discount? Was it just I'll just go back to
- 7:31Speaker 1: the archive and wipe everything that guy did for the
- 7:33Speaker 1: last five years. I don't know I made the fifth
- 7:38Speaker 1: Finger now Nah, I don't think so finger. Yeah yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But basically what we're doing is we're going to be
- 7:43Speaker 1: kicking off because we tried did a soft launch about
- 7:45Speaker 1: two or three years ago. Yeah, and it didn't work
- 7:47Speaker 1: out because it was just too hard working around. Yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 1: Lex was too young.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Your Lex was too young. You booked Grock and then
- 7:52Speaker 3: suddenly I slipped down the contacts list.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, and it wasn't happening. But now we're here,
- 7:56Speaker 1: so we're going to be doing this twice a month.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Are going to start with guess who's went to criticized
- 8:00Speaker 1: in it? Which I thought was't a good episode of
- 8:01Speaker 1: kick Off for you, in particular because you're a I'd
- 8:03Speaker 1: call you a foodie.
- 8:04Speaker 3: A foodie and a snob, yes, the same thing, right,
- 8:07Speaker 3: they go hand in hand.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Can you be a foodie and not be a snob?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Though Homer managed for the first half of this episode.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah, until the other s's so good. That's the thing
- 8:16Speaker 1: with being a critic, right do you think do you
- 8:19Speaker 1: buy into the mentality of you have to critique? I
- 8:21Speaker 1: think if you like everything, then you tell everyone that
- 8:23Speaker 1: you like every well.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I think you can critique and still be positive like
- 8:27Speaker 3: a critique. Oh, let's say that you can give feedback.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I kind of see critique as being an overall piece
- 8:35Speaker 3: of good and bad if there is any bad, but
- 8:38Speaker 3: if there's no bad. I think if you're a critic
- 8:39Speaker 3: and you're coming into something with the mentality of I
- 8:42Speaker 3: need to find something to dislike, then you'll do a
- 8:46Speaker 3: pretty shitty job of being a critic. And I think
- 8:49Speaker 3: back to when you were running the website and I
- 8:52Speaker 3: wrote a few video game critiques back then that I
- 8:56Speaker 3: approached it from the angle of who is this for?
- 9:00Speaker 1: And did you really which video games did you critique? Oh,
- 9:03Speaker 1: did you do Batman, Arkhemasylum or something like that.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I don't know if I did that. I did Lego something, okay, Lego,
- 9:09Speaker 3: Jurassic Park. Maybe there were a couple others. I also
- 9:13Speaker 3: did some TV shows from memory back in the day.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But but yeah, for me, it's kind of that thing
- 9:17Speaker 3: of I would rather a review that tells me what
- 9:21Speaker 3: sort of person would like this, And I think that
- 9:23Speaker 3: there's a way that you can do that without having
- 9:25Speaker 3: to shit on what it doesn't do.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I've seen people critique Kevin Smith because they say he
- 9:31Speaker 1: only ever talks positive about things, and his response was, well,
- 9:35Speaker 1: only review stuff that I enjoy. Yeah, I can see it,
- 9:38Speaker 1: because he goes, I haven't got time to waste energy
- 9:39Speaker 1: on negativity. If I know I'm not going to like it,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I't bother talking about it. Do you buy into that mantra?
- 9:43Speaker 3: I mean it wouldn't work for all shows, but yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 3: I do like Kevin's doing it by choice. His show
- 9:49Speaker 3: is not a review show. It's a pop culture show
- 9:51Speaker 3: where he talks about what interests him.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 3: So yeah, in that sense, why wouldn't you only talk
- 9:56Speaker 3: about stuff that you like. I have heard Kevin talk
- 9:59Speaker 3: about being you know, there'll be movies that have come
- 10:02Speaker 3: up where it's like this is right in the wheelhouse,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and we have to talk about this, and maybe it sucked.
- 10:10Speaker 3: What was the Snyder verse? Well, it's just included all
- 10:13Speaker 3: of the Snyder verse and all of the reasons that
- 10:15Speaker 3: that might have criticism. But he's even that, he still
- 10:19Speaker 3: kind of finds a way to be like, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 3: I dug this, I like this bit, and it kind
- 10:24Speaker 3: of is what is left unsaid there because it's there's
- 10:27Speaker 3: a difference between looking for the positives and then lying
- 10:32Speaker 3: to say that something was awesome, Like it's it's easy
- 10:35Speaker 3: to go, yeah, like I liked this and this about it?
- 10:39Speaker 3: Was it what I wanted overall? No, but this is
- 10:40Speaker 3: good And if that's your thing, then go watch it.
- 10:43Speaker 1: What's what shits me about? So many you see it
- 10:45Speaker 1: with younger film critics now on Instagram and TikTok and whatnot.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Everything is the best of something now. I saw a
- 10:51Speaker 1: lot when the Superman movie came out, the recent one,
- 10:54Speaker 1: I was the best superhero movie in decades. I'm like,
- 10:56Speaker 1: is it though? It was? It? Just you're just saying
- 10:57Speaker 1: that so you get free to get to the.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Next yir Now, it was just pretty a superhero movie?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Was it any good? Because you're a Superman god? I
- 11:02Speaker 1: enjoyed it?
- 11:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Like for me, it was better than Superman Returns.
- 11:07Speaker 1: That was your favorite of the recent ones, wasn't it? Yeah?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Like, I, for all of its flaws, I still preferred
- 11:13Speaker 3: that over any of the Cavil films because it had optimism.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So I think you can think Nolan for that. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: reckon the lack of optimism and superhero movie.
- 11:21Speaker 3: It's an interesting one that actually, because no one's normally
- 11:23Speaker 3: pretty good at tapping in to what a character actually is.
- 11:27Speaker 3: So like, I don't think that he painted that with
- 11:31Speaker 3: a bleak brush. I'd be curious to know how much
- 11:33Speaker 3: of a producer's hand he had on that versus how
- 11:35Speaker 3: much of it was just. I also think that as
- 11:37Speaker 3: a director, he'd probably be less inclined to try to
- 11:40Speaker 3: shape another director's vision. If he wanted to tell his
- 11:43Speaker 3: Superman movie, he would have just said old direct But yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 3: so Superman one and two and then this one's called
- 11:50Speaker 3: Man of Steel.
- 11:52Speaker 1: The old one old one. It was just for Superman,
- 11:54Speaker 1: wasn't it?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Is it just called Superman very well?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Might have been.
- 11:57Speaker 3: That's a memorable it was, yeah, and Returns and it's
- 12:01Speaker 3: just course Returns because it's a beautiful homage to my
- 12:04Speaker 3: favorite ones, but it's also weaker overall.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I have you been to any recent films. I'm going
- 12:10Speaker 1: to go see Project Hail Mary heard it's great.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm keen for that. I love that book.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That was really really good. Large a song sung Blue
- 12:17Speaker 1: ops it on the podcast I Haven't See. I saw
- 12:20Speaker 1: the ads and stuff and thought, oh, it's Neil Diamond biopic.
- 12:23Speaker 1: It's not. It's about the story of a Neil Diamond
- 12:27Speaker 1: cover band, yeah, and just the chaos of their life.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And it's actually great.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Okay, h No, I missed Avatar. I double booked. I
- 12:35Speaker 3: was going to go see Avatar three D. I actually
- 12:38Speaker 3: was in Bali and that was on the low. There
- 12:40Speaker 3: was an IMAX over in Bali. Now in snore like
- 12:43Speaker 3: five Australian dollars to go see Avatar in three D
- 12:47Speaker 3: in Imax over there.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's just a twenty dollars Amazon projector just like pulled
- 12:50Speaker 1: really far back.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Well, I never found out because it was only on
- 12:54Speaker 3: the first night that we arrived and I was pretty cooked,
- 12:57Speaker 3: so I was like I saw it was like great,
- 12:58Speaker 3: I'll come back in two days and saying I'll.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Go a little later. I'll go a little later.
- 13:03Speaker 3: And when I came back, they were only playing mothering heights.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Isn't not funny how that moment just sticks with you.
- 13:08Speaker 1: It's like it's the perfect thing to use when you
- 13:10Speaker 1: when you just leave something for too long. I'll go
- 13:12Speaker 1: a little later with your chicken. Yes exactly. Yeah, it's
- 13:17Speaker 1: become I'm sure this will be in the edit. But
- 13:18Speaker 1: Dando just ran out on me. He left chicken in
- 13:21Speaker 1: the other The first person done this too. It's happened
- 13:23Speaker 1: regular times. I've been put chicken in the oven. Late thing.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm just like cooking chicken podcast. The chicken I didn't
- 13:28Speaker 1: cook this likeily this time wasn't my fault. Nicola went
- 13:31Speaker 1: out for dinner, which like, I've put some chicken in
- 13:33Speaker 1: the oven and needs to be cooking. He's keep an
- 13:34Speaker 1: eye on it. I'm like, well, I'm about to start
- 13:36Speaker 1: recording your podcast. But okay, what I enjoyed the most
- 13:39Speaker 1: that again was my scuttle No it was that you
- 13:42Speaker 1: heard the chicken. So you have your headphones on, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: you didn't look at your not wearing a watch. You
- 13:48Speaker 1: didn't look at the time, you didn't look at your laptop.
- 13:50Speaker 1: You went, I've got to take some chicken out. You
- 13:55Speaker 1: can hear putting. Oh's a funny story about Superman. So
- 14:02Speaker 1: the kids love Superman one, and I've got all four
- 14:05Speaker 1: on four K, and they wanted to watch Superman two. Okay,
- 14:07Speaker 1: don't putting it in. And I didn't say Superman two
- 14:10Speaker 1: for a long time. Maybe i'd opened it. I hadn't
- 14:12Speaker 1: watched a four K probably on the cut or the Yeah, yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 1: that's I think it's the only version you get on
- 14:16Speaker 1: four K. And you know I put the disk in.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm sitting there. I'm sort of like cooking their getting
- 14:21Speaker 1: their lunch, eating and stuff, and I'm watching them like, man,
- 14:24Speaker 1: this ship. This weird. I don't remember it's being It's
- 14:27Speaker 1: a really weird start anyway, watching it, Richard prior, Oh ship,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'm like Richard, Oh no, the Supman three.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The only the only saving grace for the kids is
- 14:44Speaker 3: that you left them somewhere to go.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yes. The thing is the covers look so similar because
- 14:49Speaker 1: they released them all though very similar, just a Superman
- 14:51Speaker 1: one Superman two. I just grabbed it because obviously I
- 14:54Speaker 1: put it on the shlf on the wrong spots. I
- 14:55Speaker 1: just grabbed it, didn't look and I was like, I
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't remember being this weird at the start, but yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I've got Obviously Superman two went in and the kids
- 15:01Speaker 1: loved it.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, good. And then I actually still have
- 15:04Speaker 3: a soft spot for four. What's so bad that the
- 15:08Speaker 3: Quest for Quest for Peace Superman verse? He throws all
- 15:13Speaker 3: of the nuclear bombs in the world into the sun,
- 15:15Speaker 3: And don't we need that right now? Yeah?
- 15:17Speaker 1: We really do. Yeah. Anyway, what do you think of
- 15:20Speaker 1: this episode? I guess who's come to criticized dinner? So
- 15:23Speaker 1: this is how much Simpsons have you watched since leaving
- 15:26Speaker 1: the podcast at all? You haven't shown lex any.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Best part of it. I did turn it on for it,
- 15:31Speaker 3: just to see if she'd be visually interested in it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Old or new ones, because the new one is more
- 15:36Speaker 1: visually stimulating, I think.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, Now I went with I don't know what,
- 15:40Speaker 3: something from probably season three or four. I was trying
- 15:43Speaker 3: to I was actually it was just a point where
- 15:46Speaker 3: I was flicking around and seeing what sticks.
- 15:47Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:47Speaker 3: What she did like was BoJack Horseman. Really got into
- 15:50Speaker 3: the visuals of that. And I think the opening theme song.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Because putting the Simpsons on now for my kids like
- 15:55Speaker 1: the old ones, is the equivalent of my mum putting
- 15:57Speaker 1: on like a Scooby Doo cartoon visually. Yeah, it looks scratchy. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I haven't watched much at all.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I have probably, just like for pleasure, watched a handful
- 16:07Speaker 3: of episodes over the last few years. I think the
- 16:09Speaker 3: last one that I watched was it She and Scratchy
- 16:13Speaker 3: in March season two.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, do you think doing the podcast made you want
- 16:17Speaker 1: to watch the show list less?
- 16:19Speaker 3: I needed to put some distance between myself and the show, Yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 3: to be able to try to just watch it and
- 16:23Speaker 3: be entertained by it again as opposed I'm.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Only just starting to be able to do that. The
- 16:27Speaker 1: thing is, I think I'll put on for the kids,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and my kids are old enough where they can sort
- 16:30Speaker 1: of understand some of the jokes and whatnot, and seeing
- 16:33Speaker 1: them enjoy it for the first time and sort of
- 16:35Speaker 1: living by carefully through that and stuff like I put
- 16:37Speaker 1: Who Shot Mister Burns on? And they didn't know what
- 16:39Speaker 1: it was like, this is cool seeing kids, seeing my
- 16:41Speaker 1: kids experience the same way I did.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when lex is a couple of years older,
- 16:45Speaker 3: that will be something that I do really look forward to.
- 16:49Speaker 3: There's a few things like that. Actually I kind of
- 16:50Speaker 3: have like a not actually written down, but I have
- 16:53Speaker 3: a mental list.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Of movies to show her what's your bocket.
- 16:55Speaker 3: List based on various points of her life. I was
- 16:58Speaker 3: thinking about how cool it's going to be a show.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I still haven't shown all yet, but he watched out
- 17:03Speaker 1: the first thirty minutes. He sort of turned a me
- 17:05Speaker 1: in his like when did the dinosaurs start? And I
- 17:08Speaker 1: was like, forty minutes in, there's barely any dinosaurs. There
- 17:11Speaker 1: aren't much that many dinosaurs in this movie.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I suppose that is something where the pacing
- 17:16Speaker 3: of films is really different these days.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a weird one.
- 17:18Speaker 3: With Jurassic Park. You need to get in maybe a
- 17:20Speaker 3: little earlier than you otherwise would, because part of you
- 17:23Speaker 3: might be like, dinosaurs is going to scare a five
- 17:25Speaker 3: year old, But if that five year old turns into
- 17:28Speaker 3: an eight year old who's seen a bunch of other
- 17:30Speaker 3: hyperactive movies where there's like, shit's got to happen in
- 17:32Speaker 3: the first five minutes or they're not going to keep
- 17:34Speaker 3: watching and they'll stop streaming. Then you've kind of primed
- 17:39Speaker 3: them to go. Be like if you and I sat
- 17:41Speaker 3: down right now to watch Lawrence of Arabia, Yeah, like,
- 17:44Speaker 3: when's Lawrence going to fire a gun?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Skip intro? Speaking of right, so, because kids just don't
- 17:50Speaker 1: like sitting through credits, but I put Space on my
- 17:52Speaker 1: kids lost Space Jam right, you know, it's bright's colorful
- 17:54Speaker 1: shit going on. And Ali had a couple of friends
- 17:57Speaker 1: over I mentioned some on the podcast. Another one we
- 17:58Speaker 1: did or did Big Guy and he had two friends.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Once they're fine, but the intro came on, It's like, no,
- 18:05Speaker 1: fucking MJ's doing slam dunks. You've got the Space Jam
- 18:07Speaker 1: song playing. It's great. This kid's just like push the
- 18:11Speaker 1: button skip intro. I'm like, are you out of your mind? Child?
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's Michael Jordan doing slam dunks to the Space Jam song.
- 18:18Speaker 1: He's like, skip intro. When do we skip intro?
- 18:20Speaker 3: I'm like, no, I can't tolerate that. And Lex will
- 18:23Speaker 3: not grow up and a skip intro household. Yeah that
- 18:26Speaker 3: the intro sets the tying as the little as you
- 18:29Speaker 3: removes boosh gets the senses going.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And we sound like old men shaking their fistic cloud.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But it's very important, Like trained my kids to realize,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you don't skip the intros.
- 18:36Speaker 3: You are gonna watch this feather float through the air
- 18:38Speaker 3: for five fucking minutes before Tom Hanks speaks, and you're
- 18:41Speaker 3: gonna enjoy every second of it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: See my kids have, they've watched every episode of Fresh Prince.
- 18:45Speaker 1: They stream the share the Fresh Prince.
- 18:47Speaker 3: They get that intro.
- 18:48Speaker 1: The first time I put they skipped intro, I was like,
- 18:50Speaker 1: give me the remote, hold the phone. I went back
- 18:52Speaker 1: to the start and I said, you do not skip
- 18:53Speaker 1: this one. Do never skip this one actually tells you
- 18:56Speaker 1: the story. And now they lost into in the car like, ah,
- 19:01Speaker 1: oh shit. Intros are actually there's a point to them.
- 19:04Speaker 3: But you watch chasing how quickly that happened. Where Like
- 19:07Speaker 3: not long ago, Game of Thrones was praised for its intro. Yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 3: and we have five six years later and no one
- 19:14Speaker 3: be paying any attention to it. Yeah he was when
- 19:16Speaker 3: the breaking bad music kicked in and things like that. Yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 3: at least that short. Yes, we're watch taking bad as
- 19:21Speaker 3: a self skipping intro see how.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Guilty Pleasure show is s for you? Nicola and I
- 19:24Speaker 1: we'll watch it, watch it all the time, but we
- 19:26Speaker 1: will put it on occasionally. And the other night Nicola
- 19:28Speaker 1: like fucking skipped intro on the SVU intro. I was like, Nikola,
- 19:31Speaker 1: so I turned her and she looked at me. She
- 19:33Speaker 1: was like, oh, I didn't mean to. I'm like, you
- 19:35Speaker 1: better not, dav This that leads.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Me into the first question that I wrote, And it
- 19:40Speaker 3: doesn't answer how do I feel about the question? But
- 19:41Speaker 3: do you still watch the Simpsons intro when you're doing these?
- 19:44Speaker 3: Because I watched it in full for the couple episodes
- 19:47Speaker 3: that we're talking about.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I do when I'm doing it for the review because
- 19:50Speaker 1: I feel like I just want to get into watching
- 19:51Speaker 1: it mode. Yeah, yeah, I skipped the intro noun on
- 19:54Speaker 1: Disney Plus to the point, now can you believe this?
- 19:57Speaker 1: We had Matt someone on the show cause I noticed
- 19:58Speaker 1: it season thirty seven. They don't do the intro anymore really,
- 20:01Speaker 1: because there's no point, just cold they I would have
- 20:04Speaker 1: learned from the stats that people were skipping the intro,
- 20:06Speaker 1: so what's the point? And he said, I would rather
- 20:08Speaker 1: dedicate time to storytelling than have any intro.
- 20:10Speaker 3: This is another one of those reasons that I just
- 20:12Speaker 3: want the Internet to be shut off, be perfectly honest.
- 20:14Speaker 3: People are too quick to like just settle in.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Yeah joy Yeah. So even the couch gags and I
- 20:20Speaker 1: have there's no couch gag.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Recording twenty two minutes, it's all intro.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, the credits haven't stopped yet, there's no there's no
- 20:26Speaker 1: couch gags or anything. They had a couch gag for
- 20:29Speaker 1: the eight hundred episode because it was a special one,
- 20:30Speaker 1: but now it just goes the Simsons and it sort
- 20:34Speaker 1: of phades just in zooms into one of the letters
- 20:36Speaker 1: and goes him and that's the end of the episode,
- 20:37Speaker 1: just starts. Yeah okay, because they were saying people were
- 20:39Speaker 1: just skipping it, So why waste forty five seconds of
- 20:42Speaker 1: storytelling time on something that people are going to skip anyway?
- 20:45Speaker 3: Thirty seven years that's admirable because I would be like,
- 20:48Speaker 3: can we drag that intro out to three minutes people
- 20:51Speaker 3: skip it anyway, and that way I don't have to write.
- 20:52Speaker 1: This match then this isn't actually pretty good. I would
- 20:55Speaker 1: advise checking out the newer episodes, probably like season thirty
- 20:58Speaker 1: five onwards. Yeah, because ol Genus left the show and
- 21:01Speaker 1: now Matt Selman is taken over a show, we've got
- 21:03Speaker 1: a fresh voice. Yeah. Well, he was pretty much supposed
- 21:06Speaker 1: running the show anyway, but now he's officially the solo showrunner.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He can just do what he wants having to get
- 21:11Speaker 1: the approval from up above, and yeah, it's better for it,
- 21:13Speaker 1: all right? Sweet this episode? What did you like?
- 21:15Speaker 2: Ah?
- 21:16Speaker 1: What did I like?
- 21:17Speaker 3: I liked that this was a wacky but believable enough
- 21:21Speaker 3: side plot, not side plot, but the idea of Homer
- 21:24Speaker 3: gets a new job and does whatever. And I kind
- 21:28Speaker 3: of liked that the fact that Lisa was the ghost
- 21:31Speaker 3: writer of all of it, and Homer and Lisa working
- 21:33Speaker 3: together hearkens back to earlier episodes and some really strong
- 21:37Speaker 3: episodes where they would be in on things forgive me
- 21:40Speaker 3: for forgetting. Yeah, the gambling one is the one that
- 21:44Speaker 3: it kind of evoked. I also liked that for a
- 21:47Speaker 3: small period there, Homer actually found a second thing to
- 21:53Speaker 3: do that is genuinely good at. And what I mean
- 21:56Speaker 3: by that is he couldn't write, obviously, but he's genuinely
- 21:59Speaker 3: good at eating food, and he was genuinely good at
- 22:01Speaker 3: finding stuff to be delicious and he made people happy
- 22:05Speaker 3: and that there wasn't any real spite or mean spiritedness
- 22:11Speaker 3: in the episode overall. So it kind of felt of
- 22:15Speaker 3: an earlier error to a degree.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Because he didn't start becoming rude with with his reviews
- 22:23Speaker 1: until the other critics convinced him to do so peer
- 22:26Speaker 1: pressured him. It didn't just become a dick. He was
- 22:28Speaker 1: buckling to peer pressure.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he was doing it because he thought that's what
- 22:31Speaker 3: you're supposed to do.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I do think they could have maybe focused more on
- 22:33Speaker 1: the Lisa homodynamic and her being sad that they had
- 22:38Speaker 1: this thing going well together and she was enjoying having
- 22:40Speaker 1: her stuff printed in the paper yep, and now she's
- 22:42Speaker 1: no longer able to do that, she can't work with
- 22:44Speaker 1: him as a team anymore, and she was and seeing
- 22:47Speaker 1: the impact that had on her.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and that would be, you know, the legacy, and
- 22:51Speaker 3: I do want to try to avoid doing that versus
- 22:54Speaker 3: or then really try to. Yeah, it's hard, but that
- 22:57Speaker 3: would be If this was a James L. Brooks error,
- 22:59Speaker 3: they definitely would have done that.
- 23:01Speaker 1: That would have been the focus, not some wacky let's
- 23:03Speaker 1: make a bigger Claire Le bomb, Yeah, to kill him overall.
- 23:08Speaker 3: The other thing that I kind of took away from
- 23:10Speaker 3: it was kind of forgotten that the pace of the
- 23:14Speaker 3: jokes just slows down a little bit. Yeah, And I
- 23:18Speaker 3: guess there'sn't that element of which we've spoke about many
- 23:22Speaker 3: many years ago, of the change in the writer's room
- 23:25Speaker 3: culture that you wouldn't stay there until three in the
- 23:27Speaker 3: morning trying to carve out the absolutely every last ounce
- 23:32Speaker 3: of a joke. So there's really good jokes in this
- 23:35Speaker 3: I just found them less frequent. But I did have
- 23:38Speaker 3: some really really big bally laughs.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Are we surprised by that? We enjoyed by that knowing
- 23:42Speaker 1: because you know, this isn't this isn't your era. No,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I had you seen this one before?
- 23:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Yeah, I wasn't surprised by it. It's not
- 23:49Speaker 3: like I knew that. It's not like I thought the
- 23:51Speaker 3: show wouldn't be funny, just not as Yeah, Like I
- 23:55Speaker 3: didn't think it was like, yeah, ten out of ten
- 23:57Speaker 3: fucking one. It was more like a tapers and there
- 24:01Speaker 3: were there are other things of a higher quality that
- 24:04Speaker 3: I was like, I'll invest my time over here. And
- 24:07Speaker 3: South Park was coming along as a pretty fresh voice.
- 24:10Speaker 1: This was ninety nine. South Park kicked off in ninety seven,
- 24:13Speaker 1: ninety eight year. Yeah, so it was more that it
- 24:15Speaker 1: was like, oh, it's this new shiny toy and family
- 24:18Speaker 1: were your family guy going. Yeah, when it started the
- 24:20Speaker 1: first season, I think the family Guy because it was
- 24:22Speaker 1: different ye, Futurama and Dilbert, and it was quite a
- 24:26Speaker 1: big deal with at the time, and Scott Adams made
- 24:31Speaker 1: Rest in Peace. I had recently Scott, A lot of
- 24:33Speaker 1: people didn't like the guy.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Oh he's a bastard. I hate to speak ill of
- 24:38Speaker 3: the dead, dad note, but fuck.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Me speaking of ill of the dead. Speaking of speaking
- 24:43Speaker 1: of ill of the dead, I should say. We spoke
- 24:44Speaker 1: to Jay Kergan today for our last exit at the
- 24:45Speaker 1: Springfield Reviewer. But yeat at some point some negative things
- 24:49Speaker 1: to say about Sam Simon, which really, really I was
- 24:51Speaker 1: surprised by because you only ever hear nicest guy. You know,
- 24:55Speaker 1: he dedicated a lot of his money to looking after animals,
- 24:57Speaker 1: and yeah, he's lovely and apparently just a motherfucker to
- 25:01Speaker 1: work with, right. Yeah, but it's like, you know, it
- 25:03Speaker 1: was explaining you've got to have that mongrel to you
- 25:06Speaker 1: to get results on that dog at him. Yeah, So
- 25:10Speaker 1: look at for that last exit of the Springfield. But
- 25:11Speaker 1: you're right though with the with the amount of gags,
- 25:13Speaker 1: because Last Exit Springfield is one of those episodes it's
- 25:16Speaker 1: just jo jo jo Jo joke, Joe joke. And then
- 25:19Speaker 1: you watch this one. This one's almost like a breath
- 25:20Speaker 1: of fresh air to an extent because you can sort
- 25:22Speaker 1: of relax a bit. Yeah, but in saying that it's
- 25:25Speaker 1: not as funny as a result, No, it's a different
- 25:27Speaker 1: kind of funny. I guess, yeah it is.
- 25:29Speaker 3: And like I said, it's like if I could spoil
- 25:32Speaker 3: my absolute favorite moment in the episode and the funniest part.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So at the beginning, the little callback I haven't seen
- 25:39Speaker 3: for four years, Like, no, that's funny. But then when
- 25:42Speaker 3: they're at the dinner table, it's like passed on, pass
- 25:44Speaker 3: it on, passing on. We just want to know where
- 25:46Speaker 3: our Sunday is, Kils. It's like that that slayed me.
- 25:51Speaker 3: And as much as you know, structurally it's pulled back
- 25:53Speaker 3: and reveal, but execute it so.
- 25:56Speaker 1: So fucking well because the thing is Utter gets attacked.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I think it's Pta de Spam, which is like season six,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and I think you might see him nah, because he's
- 26:03Speaker 1: in dast Bus, I think anyway, But like the last
- 26:06Speaker 1: field trip, he gets like left behind and they get
- 26:09Speaker 1: a beat the shit out of him basically, and you
- 26:10Speaker 1: think they've killed Uda. And I think that's what this
- 26:13Speaker 1: joke is referring to, that we haven't seen him since
- 26:15Speaker 1: that field trip. But even though he has been seen since,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I think.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I thought it was dust Bus and maybe
- 26:20Speaker 3: he just got left on the island, but bands is
- 26:23Speaker 3: that they remember they're looking over the fence and yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 3: the but regardless, I just I think that that is
- 26:29Speaker 3: one where if it's joke jo jo jo joke joke,
- 26:31Speaker 3: then that one doesn't hit as hard. So you know,
- 26:34Speaker 3: that was just very very funny.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So Asna he played the editor, Yeah right, and the
- 26:39Speaker 1: old man from up.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I did not look that up, but I knew that
- 26:42Speaker 3: voice was familiar to Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I thought he did a good job. Apparently it's based
- 26:44Speaker 1: on Lou Grant, who was a character from the marytyle
- 26:47Speaker 1: More show, which is James L. So, James L. Brooks
- 26:49Speaker 1: created that show. He created the character of Lou Grant,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and that's who this editor was based on.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Okay, that's a deep cut references it is.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I thought he did a good job as
- 26:57Speaker 1: the editor.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah, other than if you can write me one article,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I'll put you on the payroll.
- 27:03Speaker 1: The logic of it.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Maybe that's how Mary Tyler Moore got to work. I
- 27:06Speaker 3: haven't seen enough of that show, but yeah, I was like, Oh,
- 27:08Speaker 3: that's that's a swing. Anyone can stitch. Maybe not anyone,
- 27:11Speaker 3: but a lot of people could stitch five hundred words together.
- 27:14Speaker 3: In this job market. It's probably not happening.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Was bobs Burgers in this economy? Yeah? I have watched
- 27:20Speaker 1: Bob bobs Burgers. I think in this economy can be
- 27:23Speaker 1: anything that speaking of things that are a bit logical.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So there's no E on the typewriter. Explain to me
- 27:31Speaker 1: how he repeatedly writes screw Flanders. Mmm, I mean you could,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I guess write screw Flanders without the E would be
- 27:40Speaker 1: incorrectly that.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I hadn't noticed that. In a moment, my brain was
- 27:45Speaker 3: willing to go along with that for the quality of
- 27:46Speaker 3: the joke.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah it was. And then I like the call back
- 27:50Speaker 1: again later on two more words, screw Flanders appetite, Yes, indeed,
- 27:56Speaker 1: have you.
- 27:57Speaker 3: What's the dodgiest trick you ever pulled?
- 27:59Speaker 1: For a word? Count, when's the last night to write
- 28:01Speaker 1: some for all? Work out what do we do for
- 28:02Speaker 1: our book? Do we just do we do for a book?
- 28:04Speaker 1: Book was like seventy thousand words, wasn't it.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yeah, we did some padding, Yeah that quick, get some trivia,
- 28:13Speaker 3: find an interview that we did, let's transcribe it, transcribe,
- 28:16Speaker 3: transcribe our conversations. I remember discovering the trick that you
- 28:21Speaker 3: could chuck words sort of around the margins or at
- 28:24Speaker 3: the bottom of the top of a page in Microsoft
- 28:27Speaker 3: Word and then just change it to a white font.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So when did that go?
- 28:31Speaker 3: Tools word count? They'd be like, that's it the mark
- 28:34Speaker 3: and how did you do that?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Did you be a call for it?
- 28:38Speaker 3: Two or three times? Early days of computers where it
- 28:41Speaker 3: was like, let's just take a swing that they don't
- 28:43Speaker 3: know what they're doing, and I'll be okay.
- 28:45Speaker 1: How tempted would you be now if you're doing year
- 28:47Speaker 1: twelve now to use GPT for writing stuff or at
- 28:52Speaker 1: least give you an idea of where to go with something.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I'd be an idea.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I would one hundred percent use it for structure.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but I wouldn't just copy page.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I actually something happen at work a little while ago,
- 29:01Speaker 3: where I had used co pilot to kind of help
- 29:06Speaker 3: structure the way something should be. And I put it
- 29:09Speaker 3: all together and I rewrote a bunch and I sent
- 29:11Speaker 3: it to my manager and they were like, this is
- 29:13Speaker 3: really good, except this paragraph here. Can you make that
- 29:15Speaker 3: sound less like copilot? And it was the only paragraph
- 29:17Speaker 3: that I wrote that is one hundred percent. I made
- 29:22Speaker 3: that up.
- 29:22Speaker 1: The rest wasn't.
- 29:24Speaker 3: No, he knew that that was fine.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Maybe that's the joke.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Maybe he was in on it. Maybe he realized this
- 29:30Speaker 3: is this is too shit to be copilot. Maybe I
- 29:33Speaker 3: just used a few to a few too many fancy words.
- 29:35Speaker 3: I think, just me, I was just I just kept
- 29:37Speaker 3: it simple. I just never abbreviated anything because I am
- 29:40Speaker 3: yeah it is ah, yeah, that does work.
- 29:42Speaker 1: That's a really good way to go, and it needs
- 29:43Speaker 1: to go. You really should be using more abbreviation. Why yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 1: you're want of whats a thousand words?
- 29:47Speaker 3: This is the way the language was invented. Is it not.
- 29:52Speaker 1: My favorite favorite moments from the episode? As I said,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I didn't actually write any favorite moments, but I'm sure
- 29:58Speaker 1: I can wing something. Yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I think that was mostly what I had to remove
- 30:00Speaker 3: all traces of asbestos and references to evolution has aged
- 30:05Speaker 3: frighteningly well.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Because this episode and twenty seven years ago mind boggling.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's pretty nuts.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But this feels like it still feels starts like a
- 30:16Speaker 1: newer episode, doesn't it. Yeah, I think someone like you
- 30:19Speaker 1: who hasn't watched the new or newer ones. When I
- 30:21Speaker 1: was a kid, he can Hear Pudding.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Was a joke that I really really liked. And it's
- 30:27Speaker 3: a great life. It's a great line reading, yeah, said
- 30:30Speaker 3: with admiration.
- 30:31Speaker 1: It's just we can hear pudding. Yeah, yeah, his admiration.
- 30:35Speaker 1: You're right. I liked when I was a kid that
- 30:36Speaker 1: growing grabbingly, growing grabbingly good team.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, interestingly, that's one that I wrote down for Age
- 30:42Speaker 3: the Worst, just describing a father daughter relationship as growing gravitally,
- 30:45Speaker 3: and it felt like that was dangerous territory?
- 30:49Speaker 1: Was that ever? Not dangerous territory? Though I wouldn't say
- 30:51Speaker 1: aged terribly, It was just was there ever an acceptable
- 30:54Speaker 1: term for a daddy daughter team.
- 30:56Speaker 3: There's been quite a few prominent legal actions recently that
- 30:58Speaker 3: would suggests that maybe people look the other way about it.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Ninety ninety nine.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I didn't mind, Homer just it doesn't really make sense.
- 31:04Speaker 1: But I got two words for you much cheek and beak.
- 31:08Speaker 3: What what is shaking bake? I'm going to google it
- 31:10Speaker 3: because I've never seen it in Australia.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, you hear about a lot in American TV. Yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 1: shake and bake. It is a seasoned bread crumb coating
- 31:18Speaker 1: originally marketed to mimic the flavor and texture of fried chicken,
- 31:21Speaker 1: introduced to nine in sixty five by General Foods. Of
- 31:24Speaker 1: course there's a breadcumb seasoning bread whatte season bread crumbs?
- 31:28Speaker 1: Bread cumb season Well, at least with that you wouldn't
- 31:32Speaker 1: need to bother whipping an egg. Actually, that's a good
- 31:38Speaker 1: way the egg whisk gag, putting together the egg whisky
- 31:41Speaker 1: from the case as.
- 31:42Speaker 3: If it was a rifle. Very cool, kind of assassin.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Putting in the usual the antidote at the end. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 1: so I noticed something by the way, something on the.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Actually felt very Steve Martin. Yeah, that felt a little
- 31:56Speaker 3: bit like a sort of physic comedy skit that he
- 31:58Speaker 3: would do. Yeah, because it's something that you've brought on
- 32:00Speaker 3: the floor down here, have we save it for the end.
- 32:02Speaker 3: We're gonna do it before we get into like a
- 32:04Speaker 3: little quick run through. We'll save it for the end,
- 32:06Speaker 3: so over the end. Yeah, we'll get something I'm gonna
- 32:07Speaker 3: give to you before I supposed to get to the
- 32:09Speaker 3: start and I forgot.
- 32:10Speaker 1: All right, here is something for you. It's this, Ah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I've got a giant Cats mug. You've got a giant
- 32:18Speaker 1: Hawk smug. Because let's be honest, these were the best
- 32:20Speaker 1: mascots in AFL history, right, these two specific ones, these
- 32:24Speaker 1: two specific ones. Yes, I like that the Hawk mascot
- 32:26Speaker 1: looks like Dermy he does. It was definitely designed to
- 32:29Speaker 1: look at it does. Yeah, I will showed to go back.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I feel like everything needs to be simplified now, everything
- 32:35Speaker 1: sort of. You go to macasine looks like an Ikea store.
- 32:37Speaker 1: It's all simplied. McDonald doesn't even sa McDonalds anymore than science.
- 32:40Speaker 1: They've taken the way McDonald's away. It's just a giant
- 32:42Speaker 1: m now.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Interesting, you know, Lex calls McDonald's old McDonald's. She learned
- 32:47Speaker 3: the song first, and it's very wholesome.
- 32:49Speaker 1: And I won't correct These are things when their kids
- 32:52Speaker 1: right and they say things incorrectly, don't correct them. Yeah, No,
- 32:56Speaker 1: because once they corrected that and do it anymore, you know, no,
- 32:58Speaker 1: it's gone.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I actually have a little keep note file of
- 33:01Speaker 3: lexisms of things that she used to say I wish
- 33:04Speaker 3: I did lately as an educator named Trinity, that she
- 33:09Speaker 3: would go on this like almost endless run where she
- 33:11Speaker 3: pronounced the name of Trinity and it was yeah, I
- 33:16Speaker 3: don't want that to change.
- 33:17Speaker 1: See Alliott. I can't explain why, but his original way
- 33:21Speaker 1: of saying thank you, he'd say button, so he go
- 33:25Speaker 1: thank you, you go bum and then one day he
- 33:27Speaker 1: just goes thank you and oh, oh but bum.
- 33:31Speaker 3: He's just like that's in the Cradle in the Silver Spell.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I never fee the day where he said thank you
- 33:36Speaker 1: for the person. I was like, oh, that's the end
- 33:38Speaker 1: of Barton.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's illogical, makes no sense of the first time
- 33:42Speaker 3: Las lacks first time lex pronounced helicopter, yeah, correctly because
- 33:45Speaker 3: that was Halli Potter. Yeah, it's time.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Yes, that's like it's actually a better word. I'd prefer
- 33:50Speaker 1: called Halli Potter. That's what in the new Harry Potter film,
- 33:53Speaker 1: that's what he'd be flying around. Fuck the room stick
