- 1:02[SPEAKER_03]: For full-times in Condition See Film and TVReview.com Hello there, and welcome to a monthly edition of Film and TV review, on table review of the
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: latest and very busy releases in the last month.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm carrying out more to come at to Spider-In-Wire, the Biobake Michael and Nadal.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_03]: Daredevil born again, or season two, and the boys, of course, reach its conclusion as well as a few others.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_03]: So, um...
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks one join by Richard and Andrew.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome, um, what kick off I think with a big friendly release, uh, more to come back to, which uh, based on the, uh, very violent, uh, video game, which had a more to come back one a few years ago.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: Well, someone would have come back to, uh, Carl Urban,
- 2:12[SPEAKER_03]: joins the cast as Johnny K. H brought into the tournament to save the F. So he self-explanatory, that's from the title and the premise.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: So Richard, Andrew, first impressions of more to come back to, was I expecting much, but what did you think of this?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, no, what do I think about that one back to?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, well,
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: You're right, obviously, you shouldn't set the bar very high when you watch a movie called Montacambats, obviously, but to be fair, again, it's a video game adaptation, so what would you expect from me to get adaptation, let's put it this way?
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Would you want to be loyal to the source material, to the video game, or do you want to be like a masterpiece of a movie and taking liberties, or both?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the guys who did Motakomba 1 and Motakomba 2 now they just want people to have fun and try to yes to make something that the fans will enjoy and that's it they're not looking for anything else and if there is in that if that is the mission I think that the mission is complete or
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: kind of entertaining.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do I have to tell about the plots?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's not right.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Who cares about the plots and what I come about right?
- 3:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's really just a championship.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's very suddenly of the best fighters from each playing opportunity with the title.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: If you, if the bad guys win, the these martial arts tournaments, they rule the earth, and that's it.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, but obviously it's as dumb as stupid as the plot of the video games, but the video games you wouldn't have playing them in the 90s or the 80s, because of the plot, you would just want it to enjoy people fighting each other, killing them 10 different ways.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: What the, the, the, let's talk specific to the obviously the fighting parts the battles are
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, nothing to, and I think I remember particularly to be honest, it's just sometimes fun to watch.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: It is kind of gross sometimes, but fair enough because what I combat is supposed to be gross.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, varies sometimes sometimes.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that the addition of Cal Urban is great to be smoothy, compared to the first one.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Cal Urban is very,
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: He has become a very funny actor in his later years.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually coincidences that I actually are going to talk guys about the boys later on.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's actually in a second part of his career that he's showing a different face, a different aspect of his personality.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: So good for him.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: is very funny in this role, but yeah, that's all, yeah, I think, but yeah, the movies for even the acting is terrible for the rest of the cast I believe, the CGI are also from the 90s in my opinion, but yeah, we are the compared to all these video game adaptations that we have, we have so many video game adaptations coming in the next few few years, but already been released in the last few years.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's not definitely one of the best, but that's one of the both.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: What worse is just okay, it's okay.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_03]: It is one of the hardest balancing acts to get.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_03]: And we, I think, through decades of getting a video game adapted into a film that works.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: But this kind of does it, and it, I'll cover, but definitely adds the humor and the tongue and shakes.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: gives it a license to get away when it does.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: But the, but the choreography, the fight is all done well.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's kind of like it takes itself, the fight leaves aspects that should be taken seriously.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_03]: It does and it does it with the fighting.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's no, don't you think that with that done better with the fighting?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what that means is that
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: But the multi-combat of food movies of the 90s came before movies like the Matrix trilogy, or things like that, but they kind of redefined what martial arts should be.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_03]: This is kind of very easy, and it's very easy to decide it to go more the comedic routes and more kind of like banding together and counter it.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: Because I think there's been a lot of
- 6:51[SPEAKER_03]: the previous film where you have some very good actors who some great cameo to make a rape appearance here which is credit to it and very good actors who given a lot of character beats in there and dialogue and almost like a gardener the galaxy kind of like little banter going on so which is like I'm not giving to it and so the fighting in maybe is just small, small set pieces but it's I rightly not the most important part of this film
- 7:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a hard job to do and they kind of manage it.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, the writing's not the best, but it's a bit functionally the plot, but it's more a more dialogue heading than I thought.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: And it's entertaining and it's done, okay, you know, but I think it's a very hard job to do.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just about crosses the line of it.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_03]: And it's written in the first one.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's just getting a balance.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: I just change, but it is.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, but I watched the first one before we were watching the only thing that I've made for the first one is that we don't see much of this Japanese actor already for but yeah, yeah, I tell it every time I forget his name, so sorry.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's um, but he's in many English picking movies in the last 15 minutes.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a great actor, but he can just, he just is from the body language.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think it started off the first one when you start of a preamble and in his story.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: It was fantastic because he looked like, my god, this is like a serious epic piece, and then it gets sideline.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: But then he makes a reappearance here, but it's more of a comic book faction fashion here, kind of thing.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: Because I'd like to say good actors and just, yeah, so it's more like a fun B movie, really.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: And there would be a further one by the way, because it made enough money to get a further reignited.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Or it would make enough money.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I want to mind that they're likeable.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was like, well, I'm some good side characters as well, kind of nice humour when they meet a village, this kind of like of trying to get into the castle they
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: kind of like seven class amongst those seven class, but they kind of, that was a good kind of like, oh, kind of, you know, fish out of water kind of thing.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: But anyway, Andrew, you were, you saw this as well.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you did think, uh, yes, it's kind of a interesting account for me for a couple of reasons, because
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: As I mentioned, I'm a bit older, and I remember seeing the 1995 film in cinemas, and that was really exciting to see.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: That was back in the video game, you know, film adaptations on video games is something relatively new, and you're seeing on the big screen and the characters that you know from the games, and it's like, oh look, it's sub-zero, and yeah.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, cool, you play to the fans here, definitely.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, and all that stuff.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's like, oh, I'll keep it on Scorpion and a moral combat.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's like, so, and the other thing is I rewatch the first of the new movies, I mean the reboot from a few years ago, I rewatched it just for seeing this and it's just weird thing where you watch that one and it's probably when the few cases were, you know, usually if people want to watch a sequel, I'll say you'll watch the previous movie first or whatever, this is probably one case where I would probably tell them not to do that because
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: They watched that one and it's very much focused on this character called Cole, who's not came to the games and you're right, you're right, I wanted to mention that I forgot, yes, it's so weird, but actually the hero of the first movie,
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Fuller Alerts, it may be 30 seconds of two minutes in the second movie and it dies like a, you know, like a beat.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's so much fun with it.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's so much fun with it.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's so much fun with it.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: And you find that a copy.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't mention this family, and he's like, up and down.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, the hero's journey.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one who actually is having it in the first movie.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he is.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is that no one and he finds out about Hobie's word, and we see this word through his eyes, et cetera, and he gets his own power.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: So you think, these guys gonna be even new, new, new, new, new, new, new, loose care worker of his trilogy.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: He dies after fucking it.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or at least you think that he's going to be some canon character or something, but it's not, not, even did a joke about that and about the previous film in the right videos like, why do a new character?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: Why not just take a canon character and make that person the audience
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Cole, who spoiler alert is the descendant of Scorpion.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so you think that's going to be a pretty significant thing.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: There's a myth, and then, as Richard said, he dies, Cole dies early on in this film.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, well, what's the point of watching the previous film?
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, previous film.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have to rewatch it.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I could have just stopped right in.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And it wouldn't have been so true, isn't it?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: I've told about that during the movie, but now I forgot about it.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're right.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: And what's interesting is that in this one, they made Johnny Cage, the audience surrogate, and he is a, he is a canon character to his a video game.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, you know, I can have this done that from the beginning, if they were going to do this anyway, why make whole film about some character, you're just going to...
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: discard.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's like it's a franchise that actually listen to an audience of reactions and actually re-navigated to what they want and it's kind of, you know, which I think films are doing a lot more now, I think they're listening a bit more from it seems that way anyway, but it's certainly evident in this one.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: where it is, as Columbia, these U-turns are, it is doing it, which is like, and I think it's paid off.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: So, credit to them, going in this direction or right direction, it is a bit of a more of a B movie, but it is giving delivering a product, let's say, to an audience that that wants it.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, right, next.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_03]: We have a more via,
- 13:18[SPEAKER_03]: a cartoon, cannon character, Spider-Man, or part of Spider-Man, well, say multiverse, let's say, and that is Amazon's Spider-Noir, which played by Nicholas Cage himself, so,
- 13:34[SPEAKER_03]: TV show on Amazon, which is, so this kind of convey their parents in the spider verse as in there were multiple versions of the titular character Spider-Man and this one is a kind of like a gum shoe, a 19, 30s, probably die, but with some spider abilities, so it's quite a very unique character and I'm not catching one, so it began, I think
- 14:02[SPEAKER_03]: visually great and also available in well two versions, colour and a black and white which is very inventive and got me switching between both versions between a scene.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_03]: So if I absolutely am at two or three episodes I mean join it it's put together and good to see Nicholas Cage
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: doing television and I think he adapts to it quite well.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew, you saw this as well.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: What's your pinch of spider norm?
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, this version of Spider Norr is apparently not the same one that appears in those movies, because the one who appears in those movies is, I guess, called Peter Parker.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: And this character is called Ben Riley.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: So he's been, not just an alternate version of Spider and a man, but an alternate version of Spider Norr,
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: more confusing.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but that's what it is.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: And just to be clear, I saw this in black and white.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't use the color option.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's how it's meant to be seen.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's beautiful back and white.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_03]: Let's see that.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: So, it's happening.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's very fitting that way because it plays upon a lot of the film noir tropes, the character or characters with shady paths, the femthetal, yeah, criminals, criminal underworld, and all this dark feeling that literally
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: But that, in the reality when my superpower being exists, and to set up the story, Ben Riley, the protagonist, played by Nicholas Cage, and he's a veteran of, I guess, this reality's version of the First World War, and so, he got going to a whole backstory about that.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: too many spoilers.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: He gained superpowers, released the spider.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: He became a figure, kind of fighting figure known as the spider, not spider-man, the spider, and he was also a day job as a private investigator.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so the story begins, it's been five years since he gave that up because he's lost kind of a common theme throughout any kind of spider or
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: Spider-Man, Spider-Man, a character, a spider-person character that they lose someone that they care about.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: So he's lost someone he's cared about.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: Five years previously to the beginning of the program, so he has given up temporarily being the spider being a lot of what he had been because of that.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it picks up five years after he's lost his
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: person close to him, and he's given up being the spider, and he's still doing the private investigating.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's down in his luck, I guess.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: He can't even pay his secretary, named Janet, Janet Ruiz, and there's best set up more of the story.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's this criminal
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: no one in the comics, Brendan Gleason, and this version of Silverman is Finn Barne.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: So he ultimately takes up, and it's not really much of a spoiler to say that he takes up the mantle of the spider of the superhero crime fighter again because of a series of circumstances.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's trying to solve the case of the person who hires him in his stage job,
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: played by Li Jun Li, and you see some of her singing in this program, you know, she's a singer, me a life in this show, and so she kind of fills the kind of femme fatale role, higher as Ben Riley to do this job for her.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so you get to know this world of super power beings, but set in this film, war, setting and you kneel with all the criminals and solar main in his criminal organization.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: And you've learned
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: the mayor of New York City in this reality, Alvin Morris, who's running for the election, and some shady stuff that's going on with him.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of like, I guess like a Batman esk type thing, but with Spider-Man, not Batman.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of interesting too that
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: Nicholas Cage was once decades ago as supposed to place Superman.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: And now he hears another superhero franchise is playing Spider-Man or some version of the Spider-Man or the Spider-Man or the Spider-Man.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: He was in kick ass.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the Ghost Rider films.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Say what you want about those.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: But it's interesting that he does all these other superhero things just not Superman.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: and interesting how his career has turned out.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he does a good job here and he does a lot of these weird kind of movements because I guess in this version his and his abilities come with this downside of him trying to imitate movements of the spider instead of like a human human being.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: So he has to remember that he is a human being.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: He goes to the movie's in-universe cinema
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: the cinema screen to kind of understand how it is to be human to keep in touch with his humanity literally.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something that kind of plays throughout the series and he has all these weird movements sometimes that seem awkward.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like he kind of jerks his limbs and all that and that's him sort of like trying to be like a spider and then he has to be like no I'm a human so that's something interesting and and if they do continue this program I'd like to see more of that but there's nothing a lot of shady stuff going on and other super power.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: people that you encounter, something familiar with are alternate from the main continuity of the comics.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: So Tom Stone and San Dan, Marco Clinton.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: I was surprised they actually had
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: I was thinking you're just going to be a car car just a bit more a period piece but you've actually got the other villains in there who you recognize but it's all realized really well and but it is a period piece and it looks gorgeous and I think this is really I think this case I had to say the way from
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: TV, but I saw an interview and he was saying that he's he kind of done everything with films that he kind of is done action and all these different genres.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: He kind of like he's done that, but so tell everything for, okay, this would be kind of interesting.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: Let's see what this medium I think he has enjoyed it.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of more longer narrative.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: So for him, it's been quite interesting as an actor.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: He has in this medium, for him, from what I understand from the interview
- 21:05[SPEAKER_03]: It is gorgeous to look at, whatever version, and like I said, I was flipping between the two because you want to see it in back in white, back in white, it looks beautiful as well.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_03]: And the colour, I guess the colour as well, it's great paddocks.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_03]: They've commuted up the colour here and there.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_03]: So it is, whatever version you see, it's lovely to watch.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I just wanted to interject one of the other things.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: If I think there was some confusion, and I don't think this is too spoilery, but there's a character who has like electrical powers, and that character is megawatt, not Electro, so I think there was some confusion early on, but if I was Electro or some version of that character, and it's actually a different character called megawatt.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Similar type powers, but just different character.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, I mean, there was some little changes here and there, but it's almost, it is its own, I can actually just see as its own thing outside the spline of ours, which is quite refreshing, actually.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_03]: And it is on Amazon, not Disney here, this.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Right, same here, Amazon, and also in the US, it's on some other streamer, called MGM+, I don't think people have that one, but they do have prime, so they can certainly watch it there or so.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: Right, next.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_03]: We've got a biography which I hit this in a month.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: That was Michael Jackson.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm actually quite well in the box of this.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_03]: So it's the, I think it is directed by Antoine Buckley and it has
- 22:33[SPEAKER_03]: actually started in the sinister role, uh, he's Nephi, I think, Jafar Jackson playing, so they're kind of like, this is just for, obviously, the rise of Michael Jackson, so it is played by two actors in his former two years, the worst part of the Jackson Five, and then,
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: He's more heart of his success by his nephew.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_03]: It is a big budget by a big hand.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: Had to, of course, do a quite a few reshoots, but it is.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: Very much a celebrity movie.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: More about almost semi-pot video, but where Richard you saw this.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: So what, just as a movie, what did you think?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: More about biography, of course, but what were you thinking of it?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: So first of all, it is extremely stressful, by the way, as I can see, it might actually cross the billion dollar market, actually by the end of his career on Wichita.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's reached more than half a million already.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: It is a second, I suppose, which would be here if I'm going to mistaken.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is success, box office wise for sure.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now the movie itself, well as you said, it is kind of the rise of Michael Jackson, because it focuses on his early years as the leader of Jackson 5 and then is sold.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: not only this will carry actually, but it's actually the second part of the movie.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a spoiler, it's not when it's a bright pick and I find talking about spoiler because the biopic is a true story and it's something that someone that everybody knows.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is kind of ending on his solo path when he starts solo path, let's say.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: And the main subject of this movie is more about his, yeah, obviously he's right as a superstar, but more importantly, perhaps he's a relationship to people around you, to his family, to his father, and to his kind of trying to separate himself from his father, who is not one.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I can say violence, but definitely not the best of the year.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I need to grow up literally and be his own man and keep saying that in the movie.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: And in a way, that's what he manages to do by the end of the movie.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you focus on this plot that I just
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: mentions, I think, it's a good movie.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: It made me think the first half of the movie made me think a lot about, there was a TV show.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you know about this guy.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: There was a TV show in the 90s.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's called the Jackson Five or something, but I definitely remember it when I was a kid watching it.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: And it was focused on the Jackson Five.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I need to go Google this to find out and never to the time since I watched a movie.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: and it is kind of similar.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: It tries to show the rise of these guys and the very difficult education that they have to go through because of their father.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: But in a way, it's been very strict to say the least, but perhaps actually that it can be, these guys can be proud of what he has accomplished, but I'm not sure that you can say that he's a good father for sure.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, but yeah,
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, for what is worth, I think that Jaffa Jackson is doing a great job at trying to look like he is an uncle.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, my problem is that about his business limits in, and I keep saying that in this podcast.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: My problem with biopics is that biopics, for me it's,
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Acting in the bio-pick is not real acting, but that's not personal opinion.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: And he's just someone who watches another guy on video tape for thousands of hours and try to look like him and imitate him.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what he's meant, Jeff Ajax and then let's have done that.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: if the suspect hours and hours trying to do the choreographies and the movements that Michael Jackson was doing on stage and tried to almost do his voice, etc.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: So for that he did that did a great job, but is it acting?
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I don't think so, but that's a personal opinion.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I said the same thing for Arin Malek, when it did go in an absolute evacuated.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was a huge fan of Queen, but I didn't think it was a bad amazing, but anyway.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: If like Boobian, absolutely, by the way, I think it's a great cinematic experience, because obviously it's Michael Jackson, and every single song of Michael Jackson is eternal, and it just needs like five seconds listening to five seconds of the song of the music.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: and you're already dancing, already singing, with the crowd, so it's always going to work and it's safe, it was safe back to this movie.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it would be enjoyed by millions and millions and tens of millions and hundreds of millions of people around the world.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: And because that guy was a litgen of the 20th century, obviously, but time, because I need to address
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: there was apparently a free hour also cut or this movie that was reduced to two hours and by supposed to treat to focus on more than just his rise but also the 90s to thousands and I'm guessing that this free hour cut was also focusing on things about the
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: allegations and the problems that we have as with justice and these things are not obviously talked about in this movie.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: That being said, there are some lots of parts actually in this movie where they talk the Antoine Fuqua decided to talk about is Peter Pan syndrome, which is a true
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: but it's obviously shown in a very cute way.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: If there is gonna be, and since it's gonna break all the records, there would be a sequel.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: There's a huge question mark of what's gonna be the sequel about.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Because obviously the second part of Macrojects and until his death, I think in 2009, is definitely not as, let's say,
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: not as glamorous and extraordinary for musical reasons, but before all the wrong reasons.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if they want to stay
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say a realistic and do a complete portrayal of this guy or they're going to try to show what the fans want to see and only what the fans want to see.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good question mark, without no.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good question.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_03]: But I can see it is the way it's cut, it is big and restructured because of those, as you say, they're re-shot it and because they experience, they had to re-shoot it, but it's and restructured.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: So it is by default, then it becomes a similar way to the almost concert movie, quite honestly.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and the arc is really mouth his independence from his dad, but I think for the best performance comes from Cole, Domingo as the director.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's coming.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Always.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Domingo is such an underrated actor.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I see him, he's amazing.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Everything I've seen.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_03]: I was surprised in this as in because the tone you get the tone very quickly, this is basically the highlights and very sugar glass version, but it is like a pop video, but it is a great brand, you know, the depth on the darkness is, oh, you know, the psyche and, you know, right, where he's scary every time he came under the screen, the body language and that's kind of like, woof.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_03]: So it kind of like gave the way a bit of weight to this, but afterwards it does end on the high and it is and I think the audience would not see me as you just see it and I think it's been happening in this kind of in infetit.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_03]: So it's become a
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: very constantly really, but yeah, whether it can really I don't see what's left to do in a sequel with having.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of documentaries that are actually around right now.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: We've even, in the UK, definitely in Janet Jackson.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: So, if you want a bit more in-depth, I think, suggest you watch those, because it is interesting, and it's an interesting life.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking after watching it, I was thinking about this guy and that's why the movie is well done is that he shows actually that he might be the greatest star, no matter if you like his music or not, the greatest music star who ever lived.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: compared to all the stars in every kind of original rock and roll rap or whatever.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: It might be actually the greatest music star ever when you think about it.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: And even from over generations, I was thinking that it was a huge success in the 70s, in the 80s, in the 90s, etc.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm pretty sure that people were born after his death was still enjoy music.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: But people in 50 years from now will listen to
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: which quite say something.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is that also, if you are an icon, you have to be also kind of tragic to create this image of an icon.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: What I mean is that in a way somehow,
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: parts in his life, but creates an icon.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: All the good and the bad.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of things, controls, a better, a controversies about his life.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's definitely different from any of the guy in this world as well, because of what's going on through his mind, etc.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: He has some unique talent, and he died quite younger than he should have died.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: He died
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: When you think about it, this is all the things that you need to check to become an icon, all the good and the bad.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why it's surprising in a way that we didn't get a bit robust in the movie about Michael Jackson before 2021.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Because he was perfect for a dramatic extraordinary movie when you think about it.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: Right, next.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_03]: From one legend to another, we have another
- 33:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's an adal, I think, this is the documentary I'm guessing which is, this is for Netflix.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's a mini series slash documentary.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Ah.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it was released in May 29, so it's not because I have a huge fan of tennis, because I just believe actually that the documentary is quite, quite amazing.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I keep shorts for anyone that's no anything of tennis.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: We have been living in the last 20 years in kind of a strange era because we have three literally of the best players of all time living at the same generation and one after the other they are retiring obviously because they are all reaching 40 or 40 percent years old.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: So two years ago there were or three years ago there was a federally documentary on Amazon that was pretty amazing about also his retirement called 12 final days or 12 days.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I now is the target Nadal, which I was 12 or 18.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm pretty sure that we're going to get if it was Amazon for 3D and we are Netflix on Adal.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, perhaps our HBO will get Djokobitch when he retires next year or two years for now.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know who's going to get the documentary of Ned, the Djokobitch.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: The Nadal mini series is not only an hour, it's like four hours long in the end.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: It goes through
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: The behind-the-scenes from the season of 2024 is last season, but also through his eyes, etc, a bit last season, sorry, and also obviously through many flashbacks from his rise as a teenager, all the way to the top, the different parts of his sporting career.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: But it has some very extraordinary moments, let's spot in part, but also, but more importantly, the, how do you say that the, the will of this guide is commitment to the sport.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: I have never seen
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: and athletes in any sport, having such a commitment to what he does for a living.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: And many think about Efton Senna.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: There was documentary about Efton Senna 15 years ago also.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: There was also many series on Efton Flix recently about Efton Senna in Formula 1.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: And kind of similar.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: There are these guys who more than only bear
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: extremely talented what they do, they also want to give not 100% to what they do, but 1000% and even raise their own lives to do what they do.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what the Nadal documentary is more than anything else about.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: That this guy has been playing with his health,
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: since he was a teenager, just to play tennis.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately for him, first of all, it didn't end up in a wheelchair in the end, and it did actually win almost 180-bit titles.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea how it did it, because compared to all the greatest of all time, Björnberg, John McHenhol, Fiddler, Nadad, Sempras, whoever,
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's been able to win 90% of these titles on one foot and on one leg.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: And let's even kidding.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's been diagnosed with a broken foot in 2005, so it was like 20 years old.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't win anything.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, I will stick compete at the highest level.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: 10 years later, at the minute of his career, it was diagnosed with a broken knee.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it says, it's fine, just give me pink killers.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it keeps going on.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: And if one like 10 more round arrows, this crazy, is not a good example to be honest, obviously.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: But it's crazy that you have the guy like this, which shows that the mental strength is greater than anything else, a bit like Athens, Sinan, Portoeltian, Sinan, and the double business there.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: But in a way, I don't know if it's a good example for your kids to be honest.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's quite extraordinary.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: When you see what is being through, yeah, yeah, you have even more respects.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: I have more respect even now for Nadal and I was always in a family.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I'm always an
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: Pop, which, a popular genre now of late, I think it is the more the indie horror supernatural genre, and this obviously had its roots back online, which is, uh, I think maybe a reddit thread, but it's was its backrooms, which has a movie of all things out of it.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: Um,
- 38:14[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, back rooms that not familiar, it's this kind of like more ghostly maze of, uh, you know, rooms.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: On here, we have a, uh, the movie out of it where the owner of a furniture store finds a secret doorway that leads in me to an endless stretch of rooms.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: and then he almost disappears and then I think the mystery of solves there.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_03]: So I think this is a 20-year-old director, obviously.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: So I haven't seen this, but I hear really great things about this.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew, you've seen this.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: How does this translate as a film?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not sure if you have seen the videos that he's done on YouTube.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, yeah, I just want for a minute.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_03]: But I've seen, obviously, the clips that were everywhere online is very, I mean, it was everywhere, obviously, the background or this kind of very kind of like creepy maze.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_03]: And then this is kind of the phenomena that we had.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_03]: But I haven't seen his work actually.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_03]: Post that.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess to start out as a story, well, actually pictures and then a story on creepy pasta and one of those sites and then from that it became these videos that he did that came process and they are on YouTube and the fairly short videos they could go from five to maybe 10, 15 minutes long, some are a little bit longer like 40 something minutes and
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: They're all in this, it's a lot of world building, a lot of story building, and I have a feeling that this story is setting that same continuity as those videos.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the sense I got.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to see the video beforehand, although imagine many people have.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: but there's definitely nods to stop from the videos in the film and also he did a series of videos different continuity called the oldest view similar concept and I kind of felt there were nods to that in this film as well even though it's a different continuity that's just my impression.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: So in this film, which he directed, came Parsons, and you have some name actors.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: You have a, she would tell EG for?
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: And, uh, Ren's Vape.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's in back rooms, definitely.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she's really surprised with a casting in this because it's like, Well, and I said before we started the program, I said that never heard about this movie, but it's funny because I watched the worst person in the world a few days ago, so, okay, I didn't know she was here.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: That's impressive cast.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_00]: The videos on YouTube were actually very, very popular.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think the first of the back room as videos he did on YouTube has like something like 80 million viewers or something.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, huge.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: And the other ones, they don't have that many, because they definitely have a lot of many millions of views.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: There's definitely an audience for this and the movie had a big opening last week and I guess so anyway in this film you have the two I guess main characters Clark played by she would tell EG for who owns the furniture store and has had some issues in his past.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: and you have a styropis play by it or not a rense, her name is Mary Gwine, I believe, and she's a therapist, but she also has some issues in her past.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: So you have these two characters stories as well as the continued world building from
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: I guess, started in the videos of the world of the backgrounds that King Parsons has been doing for last few years.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: So the concept of these liminal big open indoor spaces and just the creepiness that just comes from that, not even from just creatures or that kind of thing.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's that as well, but just that kind of open big open indoor spaces and just endless spaces and each one just
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: What happens in the film is Clark, who owns the furniture store, he discovers that in the solar level, I guess what you call the basement in the US, there's an entryway somehow to this other world that looks similar to ours, of these indoor, big open spaces open rooms, and they just keep going and going and once he goes the other side, the first room seems
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: and he encounters weird and weirder things, and he tells the star epist about it, and star epist is sort of like skeptical, and then the therapist, the one who plays this play by Ramade Rensby, Mary.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: So Clark wants to go get proof to show her or to show other people that these things exist, and he takes a couple of his, um,
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: I guess co-workers is colleagues into this other side, other world of the, of the back rooms.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when things just kind of really take a turn.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's also the company that exists in this continuity, both in the videos and in this movie called a sync research.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: And you get a little bit more information about them and what's going on with them.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: But a little bit more about these stories about the movie, about the videos online, is there are some late 80s early 1990s, and so a lot of these things are done with kind of a found footage for a map of done, given the technological limitations of when they're set, so they're not done to like a mobile device.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Those things didn't exist back then.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're done
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's found footage, but given the time frame, which these stories are set, late 80s, early 1990s.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm very kind of grainy, look with tracking and all that.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you old enough, remember, stuff like BCRs and that kind of thing.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought the world building of the exterior world building was really good.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: And imagery, the look of the films, it looks very much from the time period of the,
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: of it's setting early 1990s, late 80s and just kind of like how something was look if someone recorded it from that time period.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's not all found footage, but parts of it are.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: And also the characters and their stories, without giving spoilers, I thought that was interesting.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: That being said, I kind of feel a little bit underwhelming, it got to the ending just because I thought things were just kind of getting interesting
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's with the videos.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have these YouTube videos that the director has done, the story, you watch a few minutes, and then there's some more, if you miss here, if you miss there, continue to world-building.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is like the start of a story, and I have a feeling based on the box-ups that's going to be more.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I kind of got that feeling anyway even before looking at the box office, so I just kind of feel like that there's more to this story and that things this kind of are starting to get underway and then there's this character here kind of see throughout the film briefly and then you introduce to the character and then things this kind of
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: you don't get more of the story and I'm thinking like, okay, well, do we be just ends where it ends?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: Where's the rest of this story?
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Where's it going?
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I kind of fell a little underwhelmed.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, what's there is good?
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not a complete story.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like there's definitely more, uh, I'm sure that there's more that the director wants it.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: So this is the way that these things are.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: so that's why I kind of felt a little underwhelmed.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think also because they're similar or film for this audience at the same time and then you have people who really love that film.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: You see this and they like it, but you know, do they love it?
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought this was all right, you know what's there, but I just kind of felt that backwards.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: The story is not complete yet.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: But in good effort, I think, for the director, I think is quite young, but maybe we'll see what comes in the future.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_03]: Right, next.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_03]: Back to the comic book world, and this is a dead-ever big season two, a born again.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: And this is
- 46:28[SPEAKER_03]: Taking its cue from the Netflix, it was originally there was the writers and creators of that, which of course what I was at the Regalante Daredevil from the Marvel Universe.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_03]: Charlie Cox again returns and Vincent de Ophorino as well as Wilson Fisk.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_03]: Um, showing by those redness, if you love those characters, and the betrayer of those characters, I think it follows a fruit line here, so it is following a, the background of New York, as, uh, Wilson Fiscal, um, as a crime lord, uh,
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: Kingpin underneath, you know, in the shadows.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: It is kind of like a crime drama of sorts, but it's if you fit many with the character, it's one of those good versions of the of a Marvel cast in every world played out, so from the next version.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_03]: And here we kind of like it's follows the
- 47:31[SPEAKER_03]: Script performances.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is the series' main strengths.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew, you saw this.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's not bad series, this one is a...
- 47:42[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they found their footing here, I think.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the second season of whatever you want to call it.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: The first season had a lot of, um, between mine, the scenes because of what happened and they worked on it for a bit and then they stopped because of the strikes and then started up again, then they retooled it.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: So the first season's feels a little bit, not really, almost like this joint of the, uh, really.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: like you story here history there, good for what was, but definitely buying the scene trauma.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Here is more connected.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have that issue for the second season or series.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I was out because it's definitely a lot of stuff that goes on with
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: Wilson-Disk, the mayor of New York City, and how he's kind of doing some very bad things using his position as mayor of the city to get away with criminal activity.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's also some bits that are up, and this is not necessarily intentional.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is just about them from the comics, but living in the U.S., there's some bits that are kind of
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: On the nose, this is in terms of what exactly he's doing as mayor of orange position a power, and using the anti-vigilante task for us to do things around up people citizens and people that he disagrees with.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you see a power loss of what's going on in the US with
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: like the ISA, James, and that whole thing.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: So again, that's not necessarily intentional.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: This is just a dabbing from the cons, but it's interesting that it's coming out and that when people in the US kind of say, yeah, this looks kind of similar to what's going on with certain other leadership in the US.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just see about that.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of what else is going on,
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's a story of, well, there's the Canadian stories of the other characters of the show of the resistance to the mayor and his leadership led by their devil Matt Murdoch, but also parent page and what she's up to leading the resistance.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: There's also Murdoch's, Matt Murdoch's
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: and her issues of what's going on and and then sledding building up to a story there.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: She's working for the mayor.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: So sort of like her start of darkness.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: There is also the henchmen henchperson buck cashmen and you know his staying.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: There's also I don't remember the son of James Gondelskini Michael Gondelskini who played
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: and his story Daniel Blake.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: So you got his story and that's going on, BB-YERID, who's the the niece of someone who we saw on the original run on Netflix and then of course the wife of
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, you have Jessica Jones who's on it as well.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of characters, a lot of go for the arcs, so it's great that actually get observed in this, it's a lot to fit in, actually.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: But I think for me, it was definitely good to see Jessica Jones making her cameo.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: And for a few episodes.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, she doesn't appear as much as I know.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_03]: But she's kind of like, she's almost like, hey, I wouldn't mind seeing another Jessica Jones series.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: But for me, I think I like stringing enough.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: Strangely enough, it's a bedroom point-stexer, or Bozai, who's basically the big side-henship but villain or archnemesis of Daredevil on the kind of like, he's more of a villain, right?
- 51:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but he kind of becomes more, he goes for his own arc and becomes this kind of like now,
- 51:48[SPEAKER_03]: retoured anti-hero, so it takes its time, but it is very much, you know, obviously, you know, it starts where his killed his best friend at the beginning, you know, this is how it this kicks off this series from the previous one, but it is an actually previously connections, you can see as a kind of a hired mercenary and could be anti-successful of a
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: They all go for their own personal journey and it comes like the other side and I think all this is he became a very interesting character strangely enough.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_03]: You'd think read more two-dimensional but he becomes he goes for his own problems and he comes like the other side so I found that kind of highlight and you mentioned Daniel who goes for his own kind of like
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: I suppose apocalypse now, plenty of cheney, we've, we've, we've been finding his own way or he resolves it in his own way.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not proud to work here.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd also ties into the rest of the MCU through the character played by Matthew Lollard.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen another thing.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, yeah.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately ties into the larger MCU.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, so that's another thing,
- 53:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, a lot of freds there and, and a good climax of this show actually is quite grand.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_03]: You're thinking, well, how, you know, for TV show, you don't really, but I'm not, I'd say a set piece in the, I'm the mayor's office saw, where are they, hold it, it's a nice, nice staging.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_03]: I thought, oh, this is, this is a nice nice conclusion of,
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: a set piece kind of thing.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_03]: It feels grand, but it is more of a character drum I think, but a lot coming on here.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_03]: So I didn't enjoy it, so I wouldn't mind actually.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think now you can see the it's found it's kind of path for it's more of a stable kind of like writing team who they're from the beginning to end.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think they've done what they wanted to do.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_03]: But I did hope
- 53:56[SPEAKER_03]: Another show because it's Disney now obviously, but it is it's yeah, it's it's a worthy success Into the Netflix show or when it's there, but so I wouldn't mind it on the season of this so I have a question
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't still worth watching this TV show?
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: This TV show is actually from BMCU.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, is it different from any other MCU TV show?
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: Watch the Daredevil on Netflix.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Netflix ones, the Jessica Jones, the Luke Cage back in the day.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, for you, it might be.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can't speak for other MCU stuff.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: I can only speak for this specifically.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's worth it to watch.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I'm not talking about other stuff on the MCU content.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's like saying and or and Star Wars.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: So this is good.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just going to leave it at that.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll be with that as well.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_03]: But it is basically judge as the show by itself.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_03]: It stands by itself.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: Remove it from the don't link it.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_03]: It just judge as a show.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: And that's it.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_03]: You don't need to see anything before or after.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, hey, this is a entertaining and I'm
- 55:09[SPEAKER_03]: you know, a lot of depth in more counter work.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_03]: So you know, it's a kind of truck crime drama.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_03]: So, and that's what it's, it strengthens being, honestly, it's standing alone by itself.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, and good performances by some pretty good actors who know the character and enjoying the work.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, next we're back to the Indi horror.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_03]: I suppose of Fila Jalla, which is doing really well.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: Big good word of mouth on this and this is, I think from Bloomhouse today as this is obsession.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: A supernatural kind of like I suppose careful what you wish for, supernatural horror.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew, you've seen this, so just give me a little premise of this.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: Those who haven't seen it, we will be too spoiled out here, but we'll we'll we'll we'll see quickly see whether is where we're with with a mouth.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it does look like it has like a rollout internationally.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, some focus features and then Blunhouse you mentioned.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: It just started out very much indie and it started out.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: Have a day view at the Toronto Film Festival,
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: not going to spoilers yet, but okay, sure.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I guess I won't do too many spoilers.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_00]: I can't go in there.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but yeah, I generally liked it.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do I love it as much as the, because when I first thought the Ron Tomatoes score was like 100% of very close to it, I was like,
- 56:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not quite that good, but I'll be like, it's very good.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I would call it perfect because it does go into some of the tropes of people in horror films making less than ideal decisions.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just see it at that.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: But what makes the film really work is the performance about.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: Just to get the story rolling, it's the story of this guy whose nickname is Bear.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's played by Michael Johnston and he really likes this girl part of his group of friends this one girl he likes as more than just a friend her name is Nicky and she's played by in the Navarrette or Navarrette
- 57:26[SPEAKER_00]: Indie Navarret and she was also on Superman and Lois as a Lionelang starter and so she So he makes this wish using this novelty item that he finds in a shop It's called One Wish Willow and so he makes a wish for her to Basically fall in love with him and Things basically go downhill
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe not so much an obvious way at first but eventually they do and again I'm not too sure about what things are spoilers of what aren't because there's certain things that the director
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: talked about before the film's release and the actress indeed never talked about as well in terms of what makes this story different than similar stories of yeah because this story has been done before I've seen it on television a crypt back in the day decades ago you know have some in fall in love with them and it doesn't work out and putting it mildly what makes this
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: the performance of Indy Dap Navarat as the character of Nikki, but the way that this character is portrayed, it's not simply that, oh, so it makes the wish, and that's that.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's that they, something happens after the wish is made, and it's something that happens to the object of that wish.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of how the performance is played going forward.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not simply okay, you know, I make a wish for someone to fall in love with me, and they fall in love with me.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of that.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's something that happens the nature of the wish making and the spell making, such that the character, the object of the wish becomes literally a spell bound.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something that happens in the film that is not simply a matter of
- 59:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, making a wish and having to go back, something that happened to the object of that wish.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_00]: So the actor does a really good job of playing someone who's kind of stuck in this situation.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: And as a result, she, uh, this talk about maybe awards online will see.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_00]: It happens.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not necessarily.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: something that the awards groups, you know, they are necessarily CV types of films, but we'll see what happens.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: But last year with sinners and weapons, so who knows, we'll happen with this film.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they are doing well this genre.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the budget was, I think it's already.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_03]: made well for the last I had 80 times it's budget and then maybe 100 more as it's since the a couple of weekends I've gone now but it is like 770k was it's budget so so good business model for this kind just after the most original but if it's executed well then it seems to be doing quite well we mentioned bathrooms as well and I'm sure there's more down the road but
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_03]: It seems a kind of good bet currently for smaller budget in DBV's almost in this route.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_03]: So, I hope it does well.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_03]: Right, next.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_03]: We have a season, I suppose, conclusion and us, was a season end of long running comic book Amazon show The Boys, which
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_03]: But think, yeah, it's kind of tying up the last 35 years of this.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_03]: So it's obviously there's not familiar with, say, another superhero kind of like genre, but here I am all looking at the, how maybe what behind the scenes of what heroes or if they were corporate led and kind of more darker view of things and kind of comedy dark,
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_03]: Antony Stow and Carl Urban Corses, to our posing heads of the boys who are trying to please the superhero world.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'll just talk about how successful this season is rather than because I'm both those who've probably quite familiar with that.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think we can just talk about how you found this season because there was a lot to tie up in a
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_03]: and how to end a series is always up for debate.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_03]: There's been a bad taste in the mouth with previous properties, but... Did you find this such a swine season?
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I thought it was alright.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know online.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people didn't like the final season because they prepared the earlier seasons without going into specifics and possible spoilers.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_00]: They also kind of felt that they were kind of...
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_00]: under I guess focusing more on other projects like the upcoming prequel bought rising and so some people kind of felt well they're focusing more in this upcoming prequel than on season five of this show they also didn't like that Gen B got canceled and kind of looking for more to seeing those characters more of those characters which they didn't really see as much of and I guess we're looking forward to that.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, without going to all that, that's what's kind of the sense I got online and I guess they just didn't like this final season as much.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but me, um, I like some of the season.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: I know I can understand some of the complaints and and it's felt like they kind of dragged things out a little bit like a certain point of sort of like you kind of build up something and then.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: So meals happens and then you just kind of like, well, spend all the time building up to that and then you shift to something else.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, why did you spend all the time building up to that?
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_03]: So I kind of think it was, it did, uh, when you're expecting a book into it to a show, you kind of expect, you're not going to waste time.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to very much conclude and very sharp, be very sharp where we're going with each episode.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: And I did find, well, this season feels like a mint.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_03]: season one season as it were it was we have our rise and that's coming well yeah I know which is which is good I mean I mean so your boy as that character's kind of breakout but very good performance by Jesse yeah that's good that's all your boy and storm fun I mean and I mean and it was good to see like you know the gen V cars like those two remaining
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_03]: You'd think, oh, they're going to have a play because we're basically going to a climax or a showdown with homeland, which this is very, you know, directional, we're going, really.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is what happens.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's like the final episode, and some of the episodes I liked, and I thought that's something the actors did a really good job.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Anthony Star as always does a really great job.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_00]: And again, with that going, specifics, he does a really great job through that character's storylines.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_00]: Also, Valerie Curry does a really good job.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: It nearly hurts much about her, but playing firecracker, she gets an episode and, you know, he realized a good job.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: That actress did in that role, because you think like, okay, you know, assuming those roles, you don't think of what they're like in real life,
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: So we can see Anthony, Anthony Star, you know, and interviews and realize how different the power than the characters they play and just how much of a really good acting job they do playing those characters.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_00]: And on that note, the real life context of what's going on in the west.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_00]: and how much of it is just a coincidence, it's like you have the character do all these things and say all these things.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just say that home lander does something, he makes a decision and then he goes with it.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_00]: And before that happens, that's where that episode trumped something.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, very similar.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know, you know, it's just like, and then there's also something with like a golden statue, and then real life, they had a golden statue down a trump put up by, I'm not going to go on the side.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_03]: I know, it's been very fortunate with it.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_03]: Well, unfortunately, it's timing.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_03]: the parallels that you see it's happening and I think even with the previous season it was happening and it was like oh so it kind of became almost political satire this but for it's credit to most of the shows it kind of stayed middle of the roads you know commenting but not falling on a side but um yeah here it
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_03]: But it just as a share of the conclusion, I think maybe the season, yeah, I think yeah, it was, it was a lot to try and tie up a lot, so but I think maybe fans really want to, I want an ending, a proper ending, but when you've got so much side projects going, it seems to just track and deflate maybe this big conclusion for Nani, but yeah, not my favourite season, but, um,
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_03]: a good ending for home manager, I'll just say it like that, you know, it's all kind of like, you know, at least they landed that, could have been bigger, I can't honestly, but I think it did what it could, but yeah, not not my favourite, but I'm interested to see maybe what the other shows are, what was it, it's interesting, the boys' Mexico could be quite interesting as well, but what I will see, I guess.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things I wanted to mention is that the fans of the, yeah,
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_00]: serious supernatural.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's like one bit in particular, one of the episodes where supernatural reunion bit of reunion that happened.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: What happens in that episode?
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_00]: The showrunner, I guess he's one of the people on the show behind the scenes Eric Crypty, he was the original showrunner for supernatural.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean during its early season.
- 1:07:17[SPEAKER_00]: So what he did for filming this one scene where it's like a supernatural reunion,
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_00]: is he asked the actors to play the roles a couple of different ways one is to play them as the characters for this show and then one is the characters that they played on supernatural.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_00]: So if you go online you can actually see that scene film that way have those actors play the characters that they did or played as if they were playing their characters on supernatural.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that was kind of funny to watch online.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as opposed to what you see on this show, uh, just to play, you know, practice this show.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_00]: So there's nice little thing for for supernatural fans to kind of watch this and then catch that online as well.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that is a fun episode actually it is that actually episode it is what everyone wants to see is how it acts as well.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's it.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_03]: Jensen Akkels obviously is enjoyed a boy, but he kicks it out of the park, so I'll be interested to see where he brings with his share on the boys, Mexico, but yeah, okay, well that was the end of that one.
- 1:08:25[SPEAKER_03]: So, next, the boroughs, I did see the promo that was trying to see it, but I didn't quite get round to it, but you have seen this Andrew, this is a show that is on...
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_03]: Is it Netflix or TV show?
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's on Netflix, yeah.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it is, I think the premise is kind of like, is it to, I don't know, it's kind of like a mystery.
- 1:08:50[SPEAKER_03]: You've got, you've got quite good cost in that.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_03]: Gina Davis, Bill Poon, Alfred Molina.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_03]: It just gives a bit premise of the boroughs because I'm intrigued, but I've never got around to it.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right, right, right.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got a lot of attention because one of the producers, it's not the actual showrunners, but one of the producers are among the producers are the deafler brothers.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_00]: They were the runners for stranger things.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_00]: And so in the marketing, and even the show itself, it does have kind of stranger things vibes, but maybe a little bit more, maybe not as dark as that.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_00]: But again, the deafler brothers aren't
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_00]: unlike Stranger Things, but, you know, they're involved, they guess as producers, and this show does have kind of a retro feel to it, kind of like a Spielbergish type thing, kind of feels like it's a show from the 80s, or I mean, it got compared to Kikunalog, which was another thing from the 80s.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I guess the short way to describe it is like it's finger things, but instead of having kids as a protagonist, it's retirees or pensioners, as you would say, in the UK as a protagonist.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So instead of kids trying to get people to believe them, you know, difficult because they're kids.
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Here it's like people trying to get others to believe them, but they don't believe them because they're older people who may be not right in the head or be mild or whatever.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_00]: So basically the show is as a main group of characters, but I would say the main character out of all them with character Sam played by Alfred Molina.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_00]: You see him being dropped off by his daughter and her family at this retirement community called the boroughs.
- 1:10:36[SPEAKER_00]: I believe set in Arizona, the middle of a desert.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so he gets to chance to meet his neighbors,
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then other neighbors are played by Alfrey Woodward and her husband played by Clark Peters and then Dennis O'Hare, Gina Davis, you mentioned.
- 1:11:04[SPEAKER_00]: And some other people in the community, there's also the security people who you guys have to meet and then the owners, the people that run the boroughs.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_00]: And first, it seems like a nice community and Sam, the main character doesn't want to come there.
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's just lost his wife and she is the one who wanted to stay there and he's not so sure.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's not really interested in being, you know, in this old person community.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_00]: He still thinks of him, stop as being useful.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_00]: He worked as an engineer.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's retired from that.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: He wants, he doesn't want to be just in the retirement community.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's a place and the community for people that are not as neurotypical or high functioning, you know, we're a degenerative disease, a place called Manor.
- 1:11:54[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's something that exists there.
- 1:11:56[SPEAKER_00]: So so basically what you have is this community and then you find out some kind of weird stuff
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's up to the people, you know, some of their tyries to kind of help save the community and save the day, so to speak, but people don't believe them because, you know, all their old people and, you know, all their kind of losing it up there and why should we believe them.
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_00]: So it's up to them to kind of save the day.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 1:12:23[SPEAKER_00]: It does have, as I said, very much kind of a retro 1980s vibe, it's done the present day, so I guess I kind of ties into the whole connection of standard things, not in terms of continuity, anything like that, but in just in terms of the vibe that it's going for.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:12:39[SPEAKER_00]: present day, but kind of 1980s, even the music sounds kind of like John Williams.
- 1:12:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's not from John Williams.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually from John Peizano, who's actually worked with director Wes Ball quite a bit.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to be working on the music for Zelda as well as Ballroom.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, very much a very, very, very 80s, very much like kind of thing, fun kind of thing.
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Something fun to watch.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_00]: People try to solve this mystery, figure out what's going on and save the day kind of thing.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: So very much like a stranger thing, but not as dark as that.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_00]: So so I liked it.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, yeah, something maybe worth a watch if you get the time.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, right, next, we're back to the comic book world.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_03]: Here we have a with rejoining the world of the publisher.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_03]: This is a John Belfinol returns in a very good portrayed world as the publisher.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_03]: When last kill, which is on Disney, and it is a more like a one-shot kind of like episode or long episode really or kind of like a movie almost like so I mean it's a kind of a basic premise but it's kind of like we rejoin the publisher who's kind of like retreated into his
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_03]: very much day-to-day and going about and as the world kind of crumbles around him kind of kicks off maybe that the punishers should return and it is kind of like a one-set kind of drama piece but then it becomes a kind of like a
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_03]: almost a sign and kind of like if kind of like a crime mentioned spree almost but in between a bit of psychology in between.
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_03]: What did you think, Andrew?
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_03]: This you saw this as well.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_03]: So it's almost like a pretty into a series or another series of literature, but does it work as on individual kind of movie?
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_03]: Because it felt like a bit like an elongated long season premiere of a show, really.
- 1:14:51[SPEAKER_03]: Well, what did you think of this show?
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like one show?
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I wish they had done more with it, but I just needed it because they kind of, well, technically it's a different studio.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Sony's yes.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Sony's small things a little bit, because in the trailer spur of the new Spider-Man movie, you see the Punisher works, so you kind of are like, well, the Punisher is up and about, and when you last saw him at season one of their devil born again,
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's incarcerated, so it's like, well, how does he go from that to, you know, what Sony is showing you.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you kind of need this to kind of bridge that gap of, you know, how does he go from that to to that.
- 1:15:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he does get mentioned a lot on season two of their double born again, but you don't see him.
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_00]: So this is kind of way to kind of bridge that gap.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_00]: kind of set up something maybe down the road for a bank castle and what he's up to.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_00]: So basically what happens on this is you don't really see as much of what happened on Daredevil born again, but basically what happened on the Punisher's series when he went after the people that were responsible for his family step or deaths, you know, the absolute members of the family.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_00]: So there's the Nutshi crime family, and so the brand castle has killed people, members of the Nutshi crime family, and by doing so, that's kind of left avoid in terms of criminal or leadership in this community, and the leadership is just really chaotic, and everything's just really chaotic, and you see, the brand castle walking down the street, and people are just killing each other,
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_00]: Please, so long for us, men, to do anything.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_00]: You're just going about business.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_00]: And things are just really, really, in a dark, dark place, just kind of on the rails and in the neighborhood.
- 1:16:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, and thank, as going through his own issues, seeing visions of people that he knows, who's nations.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_00]: And, uh,
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, still grieving of the loss of this family, going to visit their graves in the cemetery, and he's not really in a good placementally, and so it kind of setting up for like this guy's not it's like a psychological thriller, he's just seeing stuff hallucinating stuff, and then he sees someone and first you think it's a hallucination, and it turns out that it's actually my new cheat.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_00]: And she's basically telling him, like, I'm just going to go after you for killing the members of the male members of my family.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, and she does that.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_00]: She makes good and a threat.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, the first half of the episode is like him, Frank being in this not good place mentally.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_00]: and then second half and not the place physically because now he has people who are literally physically coming after him, not hallucinations, but actually coming after him and he has to do what the the Punisher does.
- 1:17:40[SPEAKER_00]: He goes after them.
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Very violent.
- 1:17:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's something Richard or want to see because the Punisher is a Punisher for a reason.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not because he likes
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm punishing them in the second half of the episode.
- 1:17:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it kind of reminds me of this, if you've ever seen the raid redemption, I was speaking the raid here.
- 1:18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Much like that, but in the MCU, so it's basically instead of like that, it's Frank Asselt going about this building, a block of flats, going after a person, killing this person or that person or punishing this person, that person is just bit by bed
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's good, it's good.
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_00]: I liked it.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I were of that character of those characters, but maybe we'll see more down the road.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the action here is very fluid and it is that kind of almost, yeah, it takes like lead from the rate, very block by block room by room.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_03]: When, so I mean, his character arc is basically, oh, he becomes a panistery gang or a reignited and that's it, but I mean, we did it really, I mean, yeah.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_03]: he sees things and so just but we kind of already know his trauma it was not really something we need to revisit again we kind of know so it is more just it does feel like maybe you hinted at it is like a filler in just so we can bridge so we can get to the spider man movie which comes out this year but um
- 1:19:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the action, you can still pull it off, it's good, maybe it was one of the darker shows on Netflix as a proper crime drama, if it gets a bit mutey, if it does.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_03]: transpired, does get a series on Disney, I don't know, but it's, um, but he, it, as an action that, which is the latter half of it, it's, it's interesting and it, it does, the job quite well, but, it does feel a bit empty, but, but we'll see what they do the character going forward.
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, without spoiling, I do feel like they're setting up for something down the road with the actor, those characters.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, yeah, the writing's there.
- 1:19:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I,
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_03]: Next, a long-awaited movie from another big franchise.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone was waiting at the bid for, and it only a few years we had to wait for.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_03]: The Star Wars movie to hit the cinemas, and of course Disney, the thing of hot on the pulse, it seems, with Star Wars, the Mandalorian and
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_03]: which came and went as far as I was concerned a few years ago, but here we are with, well, Mad Lauren and Grogu and here they go on an adventure of after a bounty over Rotterby Hut, trying to who's given a bounty by his family to bring him back to the fold and so they do.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_03]: They explore that, find him and try and bring him back and
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_03]: Small adventures happen along the way.
- 1:21:10[SPEAKER_03]: I know Richard you were waiting for this ages as the rest of the world Star was his back on the cinema.
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_03]: How did this feel to you now this was a film not an episode?
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's good to mention it.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's let's forget that it's supposed to be a movie
- 1:21:33[SPEAKER_01]: to be, let's create four episodes next together.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, no, no, what can I say about this?
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it's hard to analyze this movie without all my background.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_01]: And your background, I know it as a fan of Dauers.
- 1:21:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yes, thank you very much.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, okay, I'm going to try and forget that I've been loving these franchise for 40 years.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think as a movie itself, I don't think, and I'm not completely forgot about everything that I love about Star Wars.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_01]: As a movie itself, if I was a grown up, 40 year old or so guy,
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_01]: We have never seen Star Wars ever.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_01]: Watching this movie.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, good news.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_01]: You would understand it.
- 1:22:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need some homework about Star Wars.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Watching this movie.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I created the posters.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's just a special mention Star Wars, but it's focused.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, I think we're all good, you know?
- 1:22:35[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yes.
- 1:22:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you watch only the TV show, you will understand the movie.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: And you still have to watch TV show to be fair.
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_01]: Because I don't see how you can understand what's going on if you don't watch it with anyone.
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_01]: And because we should make characters, our notes introduced, it's like you already know them.
- 1:22:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now as a movie itself, I don't think it's good.
- 1:22:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's good for
- 1:22:56[SPEAKER_01]: kids and I'm not being sarcastic, I think it's a good movie for the kids with under 12 years old.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's good for a parent who goes with the kids, it's a set because it's very safe, like in a good or bad way, it depends on how you see it, but it's very safe, a very safe family movie, no risks, I've been taken.
- 1:23:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a very childish adventure of a guy and kind of his child facing very not dangerous monsters in the end, but just very almost sometimes 20 monsters around the road and nothing really happens.
- 1:23:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's the worst part I can say about it.
- 1:23:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's the worst part.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing really.
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I don't like this idea, but
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_01]: People say, well, it's kind of cool because it's a family movie, it's not for fans.
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, if it was a good family movie, I mean, they are family movies that are really well done.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Coincidentally, I just realized.
- 1:23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking up above my computer and in front of me, there is the poster of the goodies.
- 1:24:00[SPEAKER_01]: And that's actually, I didn't plan this, I just realized that the goodies was a very good family movie in the 80s.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_01]: For kids, especially, all kids of my generation have some new goodies 10 times.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_01]: There is no risk stated.
- 1:24:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there is no danger for the kids, but you still enjoy the rights, all the time.
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_01]: And there is a character development for most of the characters that
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_01]: the beginning of the movie, until the end, it's not an Oscar winning screenplay, but still they try to do something from sorry fun and with writing for kids and parents.
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot say that to the Mandalorian and Grugu.
- 1:24:39[SPEAKER_01]: It is definitely not where written,
- 1:24:43[SPEAKER_01]: There is absolutely which is surprising for a bloggester.
- 1:24:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know it doesn't cost as much as Ovestama's movies, but still it costs them 150 million, God damn.
- 1:24:51[SPEAKER_01]: There is not one single action seems.
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Except from the press 50 minutes, there is not one good action seems.
- 1:25:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 1:25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, yeah.
- 1:25:02[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I'm pretty sure that a kid would enjoy seeing Krogu doing his stuff, the second part of the movie for half an hour.
- 1:25:10[SPEAKER_01]: But then what?
- 1:25:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you feel like you didn't get anything from your movie.
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's a voice part.
- 1:25:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I've got to finish with it.
- 1:25:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the worst thing you can say about Mandalorian and Grugu is that you will not get anything from your movie experience watching this movie.
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_01]: But the worst thing you can say about any movie, what I don't think you're going to feel.
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_01]: sad, sadder, more sad, or happier, or more emotional, or whatever.
- 1:25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it's just, like you said, it's just you watch a TV show for an hour and a half.
- 1:25:49[SPEAKER_01]: Two characters facing monsters, and that's it.
- 1:25:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you did nothing, it was.
- 1:25:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're right because with a cinema experience you you're sitting in one sitting you expect a story where it has a beginning, middle and end and therefore something changes or character changes here we kind of start off and exactly where they began there's me now changed these characters not changed they're not growing they're not learning anything
- 1:26:15[SPEAKER_03]: Really, I mean the petropascale does appear in this.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure for 10 minutes where he's helmet is off.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's the smartest man in Hollywood.
- 1:26:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm really sure that he must have been spent 10 minutes on the set and he made the fortune.
- 1:26:35[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he's saying to counter and keeping his helmet on at about 90% of the movie.
- 1:26:41[SPEAKER_03]: There is, it is, that's why it does feel like an episode episode it because it is like, oh, to be fair,
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_03]: it's I was expecting the worst and it but it is a kind of okay children's film where it kind of like it is safe entertaining it is well put together but it is a very very very basic very safe as he said show which which was this what this was it wasn't really a movie so
- 1:27:16[SPEAKER_03]: feeling satisfied because maybe you would like to sit with the goonies, you didn't really know what was going to happen.
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah or they'll make it to the end.
- 1:27:23[SPEAKER_03]: But obviously those characters, we've screen 101 writing, they go through a change, they learn something and you go through that journey with them and you feel satisfied from it.
- 1:27:34[SPEAKER_03]: But here it doesn't really...
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_03]: happen.
- 1:27:37[SPEAKER_03]: So it feels like, well, yeah, it's an episode.
- 1:27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Can't wait for the next episode to see what happens.
- 1:27:41[SPEAKER_03]: Many something happens in television.
- 1:27:44[SPEAKER_03]: You see a change in in a season.
- 1:27:48[SPEAKER_03]: But here because you've got a few for episodes.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_03]: It'll feature life feature, let's say.
- 1:27:52[SPEAKER_03]: It is it feels like one or two midseason episodes put together.
- 1:27:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's actually, that's the, maybe, that's so string, but is that even at the level of season finale?
- 1:28:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you know, in reality of a TV show, you will have, they will give everything in a person to have.
- 1:28:09[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have so many things will happen about the main storyline.
- 1:28:14[SPEAKER_01]: And,
- 1:28:15[SPEAKER_01]: There will be a good crucifinger or whatever.
- 1:28:17[SPEAKER_01]: There is none of it.
- 1:28:19[SPEAKER_01]: There is absolutely none of it.
- 1:28:21[SPEAKER_03]: This would do a better as a mini TV series.
- 1:28:25[SPEAKER_03]: Why not?
- 1:28:26[SPEAKER_03]: If you're going to do it, I will all
- 1:28:31[SPEAKER_03]: Um, it's a strange, I found a strange way why Disney to do this as, you know, as a, going on to the cinema away, they, they, I mean, they themselves admit, they've got to read, they've got to read tall stars, if they've got any chance of a direction that they want to to try and claw back some,
- 1:28:50[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of a cause of lost success if it can you have a big franchise you do have a big fanbase who have maybe got away But I don't really believe I don't say believe that I don't say believe that it's over But when I'm saying I think it's over.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I believe it's over I think it's like I talk to you that's something very important.
- 1:29:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's only movies.
- 1:29:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's only a franchise
- 1:29:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's over for guys like us, our generation.
- 1:29:18[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I truly believe that now.
- 1:29:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, I believe you, I am, yeah, I am.
- 1:29:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it's fine by the way, but if we...
- 1:29:27[SPEAKER_03]: It had a good run, but I think you could...
- 1:29:31[SPEAKER_03]: There's such a big well-building thing.
- 1:29:34[SPEAKER_03]: Well, here you've got world shrinkage, since everyone knows someone here, which is strange,
- 1:29:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, recently they had the more shadowed or TV series, which was very well put together.
- 1:29:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's like the opposite of this, and it's an animated show, but looks beautiful, huge well-building, huge character depth in a basically animated show, which strains that you can write us to do that, and here you just don't know what to do with, well, with characters
- 1:30:12[SPEAKER_03]: exploring that world with different characters and a lore so so possibly but but here I think it's a bit of a dead end or colour sack really with maybe this era which they want to present with Star Wars but but I think next year you've got the 50th anniversary you've got the rereadies of the Riddle Star Wars in 4K Untouch.
- 1:30:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a nice book end.
- 1:30:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think that will make more money than this.
- 1:30:37[SPEAKER_03]: I feel funny, 77, just to say a good film, really, which is what you want from a fair to experience.
- 1:30:47[SPEAKER_03]: This is not a victim.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_01]: The next real release, let's forget about the real release.
- 1:30:52[SPEAKER_01]: The next real release will be this friangosting staff fighter movie.
- 1:30:57[SPEAKER_03]: Which I think it's going to feel like a TV show, I think.
- 1:31:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be like another stand-alone stuff, but honestly I couldn't care less about.
- 1:31:06[SPEAKER_03]: Well, too bad for you, couldn't care less because of course they announced that they will be a next trilogy of films as is coming out and I think yes, writer.
- 1:31:16[SPEAKER_03]: So hold on to your hope, Richard, you don't burn those Star Wars t-shirts yet.
- 1:31:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm never going to burn them because again, I'm fine with loving this franchise for what it is.
- 1:31:29[SPEAKER_01]: And the same as the future is definitely not
- 1:31:34[SPEAKER_01]: for me.
- 1:31:35[SPEAKER_01]: But it's fine again.
- 1:31:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I mean, it's just that actually maybe I'm going to all for this trip, but I don't know, but it's just, yeah, a Disney and perhaps what almost 15 years after the the purchase of the guests came by Disney, maybe we have seen finally the consequences of these purchase.
- 1:31:57[SPEAKER_01]: And again, if if Disney is making money out of it, good for them, I'm not
- 1:32:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's a product, very managed to make money out of this good for them.
- 1:32:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that in the end, it's not for me anymore.
- 1:32:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's for younger generations who see things that I don't, rather, preferably.
- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_01]: So that's fine.
- 1:32:18[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:20[SPEAKER_01]: So, again, the exception of Endor was really an exception because, well, I don't know how it happened to be honest, but I don't think we're going to get another Endor in your future, but I think it's definitely those writers who wanted a little kind of like explore what they want to do with that franchise has been done really so, but
- 1:32:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, maybe the animated is a great, it seems to give them the latitude of writing and creative freedom, which can generate entertaining, stroke, interesting stuff, so I don't know.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_01]: Contradiction, something, but I've never said that I would never say, and it's good that it's been very cold.
- 1:33:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's been 10 years from now, people are going to
- 1:33:03[SPEAKER_01]: You guys, if we know each other still, you better use this record against me, but I think the future of styles for people of our generation is
- 1:33:16[SPEAKER_01]: is a fan fiction on social media made by AI.
- 1:33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and that's great, but I'm saying that.
- 1:33:26[SPEAKER_01]: But because last week has been released, so I can share it, not because I feel like I'm betraying myself.
- 1:33:35[SPEAKER_01]: based YouTube channel, the guy actually was getting better and better, and left, which bad guy has released the first part of Star Wars Air of the Empire.
- 1:33:48[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yes, yeah.
- 1:33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Adaptation app.
- 1:33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Real adaptation, like live action using AI, the Air Vampire is the first book of the Tiniwati Xan trilogy, but was amazing in the 90s, which is the real sequel trilogy.
- 1:34:05[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, if you watch this, Jason and anyone, actually, if you watch this, you watch this thing,
- 1:34:13[SPEAKER_01]: you think my God.
- 1:34:15[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, my God, these guys doing literally the other key is doing better than this name for me, but I don't in the last 10 years.
- 1:34:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have been watching that, and I think because the views alone, but it's been getting scarily better, exponentially, or even more great than it will be.
- 1:34:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in 2020, take a look at the legend, what's in the title 6 years going to be, you know.
- 1:34:39[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think in months we're talking about, not even years because it's being so fast.
- 1:34:43[SPEAKER_03]: But I, yes, I've seen them.
- 1:34:45[SPEAKER_03]: And even with new characters, Calcesters, they've been put you kind of like in the, in his little episodes.
- 1:34:52[SPEAKER_03]: And they've been, they've been kind of like, yes, if you, if you want to look at what the fans are looking for, if you want to,
- 1:35:08[SPEAKER_01]: I believe the months and months ago, I thought that the only way to save us for me personally, only for me, like they do this for me, would be to adapt all the legends books in an animated series.
- 1:35:20[SPEAKER_01]: In any of its theories, like actually something separates a different universe where the
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_01]: at the same idea and they're gonna do it online, literally by themselves, and honestly it's killing it.
- 1:35:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's very using the footage of the new Admiral Frone and the old footage of Luccavo Kersmack Emerald when he was in his 30s, and Hermiton Soledra, and in David it works.
- 1:35:47[SPEAKER_01]: So it is extremely scary for the future of cinema and TV, but at least they give us what we want it.
- 1:35:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yes indeed.
- 1:35:57[SPEAKER_03]: I agree that's probably what the image I get from cinema now is certainly mentioned in this episode titles like Backrooms and they're kind of the more low obsession even the more lower budget kind of like
- 1:36:11[SPEAKER_03]: movies that and even the fan made films if you just hit, you've just talked about it here.
- 1:36:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's easy to do doing very well online and then they seem to translate into cinema going all of a sudden.
- 1:36:23[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe the future is there.
- 1:36:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know, honestly, like Stu Richard and Andrew, if you are worrying, we do want some more style stuff.
- 1:36:33[SPEAKER_03]: We do have some episodes of a
- 1:36:38[SPEAKER_03]: Well as I mentioned more than the retrospectives of Star Wars so where you look at those episodes on this podcast but in tune next time or wherever you are.
