- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Ian Bear.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I just joined these guys recently and it's been nothing
- 0:06Speaker 2: short of a great time.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And I'm Casey Tayson Pierce.
- 0:12Speaker 3: I've been in the band since day one, so that's
- 0:14Speaker 3: thirteen and a half years now.
- 0:17Speaker 4: And yes, just I love all these guys that are
- 0:21Speaker 4: with and yeah, for those who don't know, we are
- 0:24Speaker 4: Angel Maker and we just released a new song called
- 0:28Speaker 4: Relinquish and we got a lot more on the way.
- 0:33Speaker 5: Fantastic guys. Thanks for joining us today, Thank you, thanks
- 0:37Speaker 5: for having us all right that we'll get under olinquish surely,
- 0:40Speaker 5: but before that and Jamaica are actually hitting Australia for
- 0:44Speaker 5: the first time ever our next February for a run
- 0:46Speaker 5: of show supporting Stylosis, starting in Perth on February eleventh,
- 0:50Speaker 5: moving through Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and finishing in Brisbane on
- 0:53Speaker 5: the sixteenth of February. So I suppose the first question
- 0:57Speaker 5: is Guy's wife. You neglected us for so long, thirty
- 0:59Speaker 5: and a half years.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We've been trying.
- 1:02Speaker 3: We've really been trying to come over to Australia, which
- 1:06Speaker 3: is nothing has like really aligned for us necessarily, and
- 1:10Speaker 3: we like just did our first European tour like a
- 1:13Speaker 3: year and a half ago. So we've been working our
- 1:16Speaker 3: way into more international markets. But for us, like we're Canadians,
- 1:21Speaker 3: so it makes a lot more sense for us to
- 1:23Speaker 3: just like.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Tour in North America. But now we've.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Got like good foothold to actually make our way over there.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We got this opportunity.
- 1:31Speaker 3: We're like, there's no way We're saying though, we need
- 1:33Speaker 3: to see cold wabbers, we need to see tengal cruise.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Dad a drink Australian bea yeah, we.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Need shoes shoeies.
- 1:45Speaker 5: You guys don't here, But it's about we only avoid
- 1:49Speaker 5: the shoeies as much as like kind of people talk
- 1:51Speaker 5: about them like they're a good thing, but they're really not.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Now what's the like you guys like just down Europe
- 2:00Speaker 5: for the first time too, But when you do a
- 2:03Speaker 5: first toll like you're going to do to Australia, you
- 2:04Speaker 5: do a bit of research. So I do ask people
- 2:06Speaker 5: what to expect or do you rather come in cold
- 2:08Speaker 5: and just take it as it comes.
- 2:12Speaker 1: M I've been there. I was there X amount of
- 2:16Speaker 1: years ago, so I'm kind of familiar. Had a great time.
- 2:19Speaker 1: These gentlemen.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I think they're just kind of going to kind of
- 2:21Speaker 2: dive in head first and and just just go for it.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what to expect necessarily, Like I
- 2:30Speaker 3: know we're going to be driving on the other side
- 2:31Speaker 3: of the road at a gas station.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Is called sero research, and that's all I feel like
- 2:38Speaker 1: I need to know.
- 2:40Speaker 5: You're a natural. What are you actually expecting from Australian crowds,
- 2:48Speaker 5: because we did do things a little bit differently everya.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I have no idea. All I've heard that Ausie's are
- 2:54Speaker 1: a wild bunch.
- 2:56Speaker 5: What what on the other foot, guys, what can we
- 2:58Speaker 5: expect from you?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Some some damn good shows, some damn good music, have
- 3:06Speaker 2: a couple of beers, a couple hangouts, just kind of
- 3:10Speaker 2: enjoying ourselves and making sure everybody else enjoys their night
- 3:13Speaker 2: and maybe play play it, you know, some new stuff,
- 3:17Speaker 2: the old stuff, and a fair amount.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Of metal I would imagine.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I like to think of it as a kind
- 3:26Speaker 3: of like a dark circus act is what we're doing.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So a whole bunch of monkey business on stage.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And then back up and go to the next place,
- 3:34Speaker 3: you know, traveling circus sort of business.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Then yeah, coming over a special guests of Stylosis guys.
- 3:43Speaker 5: So is there a bit of a relationship there or
- 3:45Speaker 5: did it just sort of come about through management?
- 3:48Speaker 1: It came about through management.
- 3:49Speaker 3: We have never met any of the Cyclosis guys yet,
- 3:53Speaker 3: and even in that department, we don't.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Know what to expect, but we're happy to be on
- 3:56Speaker 1: a tour rhythm. It's pretty damn cool.
- 3:58Speaker 5: They must like something about it because it'll obviously be
- 4:01Speaker 5: a lot cheaper of them to get a band from Australia.
- 4:03Speaker 5: So bringing you guys out here that they must see
- 4:05Speaker 5: something in you that they like. Yeah, now you personally
- 4:14Speaker 5: says that you play deaf core of the highest order,
- 4:17Speaker 5: injected with black and thrash, a smattering of power, violence,
- 4:21Speaker 5: an urgent ferocity of underground hardcore. It sounds like you
- 4:25Speaker 5: guys should come with the warning label. It sounds pretty
- 4:27Speaker 5: fucking full on.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And we're trying to get the whole mixed bag.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Yeah, that sound come from guys like it sounds like
- 4:38Speaker 5: you've just sort of you plucked from the most vicious, violent,
- 4:42Speaker 5: brutal core areas of the world. You could.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, many different inspirations for like where we've derived or sound.
- 4:52Speaker 3: One of them's the Black Valley murder for sure. Job
- 4:56Speaker 3: for a cowboy cattle decap Our guitarist Colt, and he
- 5:03Speaker 3: loves black metal, so he'll derive a lot of his
- 5:06Speaker 3: inspiration for writing from black metal bands and just hardcore
- 5:11Speaker 3: bands as well. He just likes the whole mix and
- 5:13Speaker 3: as he's writing, it just kind of comes out as
- 5:15Speaker 3: it does.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And Yeah, that would be more of a question for him.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I feel like he would be able to articulate how
- 5:22Speaker 3: you write in that sense. But I'll take the parts
- 5:25Speaker 3: from his songs and if it just sounds like I
- 5:28Speaker 3: should go more towards this like cryptic sort of black
- 5:32Speaker 3: Dalli and Murders style vocal section, then I'll write a
- 5:35Speaker 3: little bit more like that, or it's just like a
- 5:37Speaker 3: belligerent sort of like hardcore section, write a little more.
- 5:41Speaker 5: Like that along those lines like that, those bands that
- 5:46Speaker 5: you mentioned that you sort of draw influence from, they're
- 5:48Speaker 5: all heavyweights of the genre. So yourselves as a band,
- 5:51Speaker 5: when you draw an influence from artists like that, like
- 5:53Speaker 5: how how does it these days to put your own
- 5:55Speaker 5: spin on it and get your own sound because that
- 5:57Speaker 5: sort of stuff's being done a lot of it is.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's quite saturated these days for what's happening.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But we try to keep it as original as we
- 6:07Speaker 3: possibly can. You know, sometimes you kind to look back
- 6:11Speaker 3: and you're like, oh, that's actually been done before. We're
- 6:14Speaker 3: just writing, like I tried to write for what is
- 6:17Speaker 3: in my heart.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Put it out there. Sometimes might be exactly what somebody
- 6:22Speaker 1: else had written in their hearts. Who would have.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Thought there's two black hearts the same out there that
- 6:31Speaker 5: the person really is. Hang, I'll miss that one. Sorry,
- 6:35Speaker 5: So I did this year, drew my release. Sorry, You're
- 6:38Speaker 5: welcome in Vocalist the End, Bro, so introduce yourself. I'll
- 6:43Speaker 5: leave you out of it. In casey, you introduced us
- 6:45Speaker 5: to him and tell us what he brings to the band.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So I used to be in a band called Rings
- 6:52Speaker 1: the saddern for a while.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I've previously toured with these guys a couple of times,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and I've always enjoyed, like the awesome their music because
- 7:01Speaker 2: there's a hundred of them on stage basically, and it's
- 7:06Speaker 2: just it was just always crazy to see all the
- 7:09Speaker 2: moving parts kind of come together and like a cohesive sound.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And I think that because there are so many of
- 7:18Speaker 2: us that it we're kind of able to have a
- 7:21Speaker 2: unique sound like that, and the music that I had
- 7:25Speaker 2: created prior to being an angel Maker was also pretty unique.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So it felt like a really good mesh. Kind of
- 7:34Speaker 2: just a puzzle piece kind of slapped into place there
- 7:37Speaker 2: because we're all kind of a little out there.
- 7:40Speaker 1: We all write a little a.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Little crazy, and yeah, we're just meshing together really well
- 7:45Speaker 2: and everything's kind of snowballing really organically, and the music
- 7:51Speaker 2: that we're creating together now is.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Just fun, Like there's no everyone does.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Their their part just beautifully and it just all comes together.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm very excited too to release what we've been working on,
- 8:06Speaker 2: more of what we've been working on, and to show
- 8:09Speaker 2: everyone this this kind of next step and where we're
- 8:13Speaker 2: heading with it.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Yeah, well that's your sake on it now. You see
- 8:17Speaker 5: you showing the truth. What do you think he's brought
- 8:19Speaker 5: to the band after this?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Well, working with Ian is a blessing. Like this guy's
- 8:35Speaker 1: a power.
- 8:36Speaker 3: How Like I'm in the studio what we're recording on
- 8:40Speaker 3: our record that's coming out, and like relinquished our single
- 8:43Speaker 3: and I'm just like.
- 8:45Speaker 1: The whole time. Yeah, like what to expect for people?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Bring a diaper because you white ship your hands.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Let's driving, what's it what's it like with I guess
- 9:01Speaker 5: the dynamics between having three vocal us like yourselves in
- 9:04Speaker 5: the same band. It'd be awesome on stage. But if
- 9:07Speaker 5: there's something you've got to work on separately, like at rehearsal,
- 9:10Speaker 5: do you just just to two ob your's and work
- 9:12Speaker 5: on that sort of dynamics and gelling together.
- 9:16Speaker 3: It's a good question. So it's a little interesting for
- 9:20Speaker 3: what we have just written. Some of it had been
- 9:23Speaker 3: like written before a little bit, and we had to
- 9:25Speaker 3: like tweak a couple of things. And it's like Ian
- 9:28Speaker 3: had his chunk of songs, I had my chunk of
- 9:30Speaker 3: songs and we kind of like mesh them together and
- 9:33Speaker 3: gave each other input on ideas to like really make
- 9:36Speaker 3: them work for each other.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And that's what we've been doing in the past, just like.
- 9:41Speaker 3: We'll like come together with like a topic that we
- 9:44Speaker 3: agree on for the song, and it's like one person
- 9:47Speaker 3: writes their version, the other person writes theres and we
- 9:49Speaker 3: try to like see if we can integrate them together
- 9:52Speaker 3: and like patterns, which line sounds better, which a array
- 9:55Speaker 3: of words makes the most amount of sense, and things
- 9:58Speaker 3: like that. But it has been a really interesting process
- 10:04Speaker 3: for the both of us, and especially like Ian learning,
- 10:06Speaker 3: like what's been.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Going on at the studio and how.
- 10:08Speaker 3: We uh strategize the vocals and play this like vocal
- 10:13Speaker 3: lead fraud where it's like he'll do one line, I
- 10:15Speaker 3: do the next, and then he'll do that one and
- 10:16Speaker 3: then layer on this one and then I start the next,
- 10:19Speaker 3: and we try to write it so that there's the
- 10:23Speaker 3: most amount of emphasis on certain parts, but also having
- 10:27Speaker 3: a crazy conslaught of vocals that is almost not possible
- 10:32Speaker 3: for one person to do. Some people have done it,
- 10:36Speaker 3: but we try to strategize it so that we can,
- 10:38Speaker 3: you know, breathe.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Yeah, there is one for you there, guys, Like which
- 10:45Speaker 5: I suppose which one would be harder for to adjust to,
- 10:48Speaker 5: like you coming into the band in as a new
- 10:50Speaker 5: vocalist or you as haven't done it this way for
- 10:53Speaker 5: so long and then having to integrate in with the
- 10:55Speaker 5: in boom.
- 10:57Speaker 2: For me personally, like I I kind of went into
- 11:01Speaker 2: it thinking having two vocalists would be more or less like,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you know, half half the work two of us, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 2: kind of split it up. But it's a lot more
- 11:14Speaker 2: mentally challenging than people think because you're not only you're
- 11:20Speaker 2: not on learning the songs and learning the patterns, but
- 11:24Speaker 2: you also have to learn what to do and what
- 11:27Speaker 2: not to do. So he's got he's got his parts,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I've got my parts. We've got both of us. We've
- 11:33Speaker 2: got Coulton who also does vocals. So it's it's just
- 11:36Speaker 2: like a giant puzzle that you really have to learn
- 11:39Speaker 2: how to navigate. It's a lot more complicated than I'm
- 11:43Speaker 2: sure people anticipate, or that to be really attentive to
- 11:47Speaker 2: the cues, you know, because if.
- 11:48Speaker 3: You think it's if I think it's his line but
- 11:50Speaker 3: it's my line, all of a sudden, there's a plank face.
- 11:53Speaker 1: You know, and then it just sounds weird.
- 11:57Speaker 5: You missed it, Hey, that'd be hard to come back problem.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Uh.
- 12:03Speaker 5: We mentioned your new song Relie wish it'ds so only
- 12:06Speaker 5: come out just recently, guys. So how's the only reception
- 12:09Speaker 5: been to it?
- 12:11Speaker 1: It's been great. Yeah, people people have given us. It
- 12:16Speaker 1: seems like nothing but positive feedback.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I personally don't go through all the YouTube comments or
- 12:22Speaker 3: whatever and come through it, but the reactions that seemed
- 12:25Speaker 3: to be just like really.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Great, cool and it did say before too, you mentioned
- 12:31Speaker 5: news songs, So I'm taking it that means that's part
- 12:34Speaker 5: of a new album cycle.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It might just mean that.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Well, just hypothetically, if it didn't mean that, what sort
- 12:45Speaker 5: of direction is it going? And is it what people
- 12:47Speaker 5: would expect from Angelmaica or is doing a few curble
- 12:51Speaker 5: that's a good question.
- 12:53Speaker 3: I personally believe this record is still very angel Maker,
- 13:00Speaker 3: but more evolved.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it just feels more.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Rownw you know, I say, and you might have grind up, buddy,
- 13:09Speaker 5: you've done well. The biggest question there with with fans
- 13:17Speaker 5: of ould answer mic and stuff. Be happy with the
- 13:20Speaker 5: new stuff.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I believe so.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Even just from uh like my perspective working with them
- 13:27Speaker 2: and knowing their music prior, like if I was just
- 13:31Speaker 2: an outside listener, it's just as just as vicious, just
- 13:35Speaker 2: as punishing.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But yeah, everything's very dialed in.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Everything's kind of kind of like taking taking a little
- 13:41Speaker 2: step off, like we're all raw maturing his musicians were maturing,
- 13:45Speaker 2: these people and that's uh, transcending into the music. But
- 13:49Speaker 2: we it's it is punishing. It's yeah, it's great.
- 13:55Speaker 5: So just say someone's coming along to sea Soils and
- 13:58Speaker 5: the inexplicable He never heard of you, guys, what three
- 14:02Speaker 5: songs should they listen to on the way to the
- 14:03Speaker 5: concert you get to know you better.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I'm going to say Leach first and foremost, that's just
- 14:12Speaker 3: a given. We're gonna say Hollow, Hope, and how we
- 14:21Speaker 3: are Dark Golden.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's bread.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Now before we let you go, guys, I've got a
- 14:30Speaker 5: new segment I've started called photo Bomb, which basically means
- 14:33Speaker 5: I've trolled through your social media before i've spoken to here,
- 14:35Speaker 5: and I've come up with a few old photos. I
- 14:38Speaker 5: want to know. I want to know a little bit
- 14:40Speaker 5: more about now. I'm not sure you'ing this one on
- 14:43Speaker 5: the end, but that there, Like, I want to know
- 14:48Speaker 5: what's what's the dynamics like on stage when you're plan
- 14:51Speaker 5: live and you've got two vocalists out the front having
- 14:54Speaker 5: a great time like that and getting right into it, it
- 14:56Speaker 5: must be pretty amazing.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's It's definitely.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Like I can't hear it like from when I'm out there,
- 15:05Speaker 3: but listening back to videos and whatnot, it definitely sounds
- 15:09Speaker 3: a lot larger, just like so inhuman when we play
- 15:12Speaker 3: are like a low and a high live and then
- 15:16Speaker 3: we have like our guitarist Colton, who also does both,
- 15:20Speaker 3: and when all three of us can go together is
- 15:22Speaker 3: just intense. The lat.
- 15:27Speaker 5: Look at a picture and you can feel intensity, but
- 15:30Speaker 5: you look at that and it's just like, fuck me,
- 15:32Speaker 5: that's that's awesome. Yeah, I found this one too. I'm
- 15:37Speaker 5: not sure if this is anyone in the band, but
- 15:39Speaker 5: whoever it is, he's having a hell of a lot
- 15:41Speaker 5: of fun.
- 15:44Speaker 1: That's that's our other guitarist, Johnny. He's riding a little
- 15:49Speaker 1: handicapped scooter in our hometown. And what were we doing.
- 15:56Speaker 1: This was just like after a local show and we're just.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Hanging out, drinking some beers or whatever is going on,
- 16:03Speaker 3: and we've got the drummer of Carcosa there that which
- 16:08Speaker 3: is Johnny's other band, Travis is the drummer, but he's
- 16:12Speaker 3: also on this tour now with us.
- 16:14Speaker 1: He's drumming for Spite and Travis.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Is taking these photos and he's riding his scooter just
- 16:21Speaker 3: like grinding the rails doing all these tricks because he's
- 16:24Speaker 3: like a I wouldn't say he's a pro scooter, but
- 16:27Speaker 3: he's damn good at it. And Johnny's here just trying
- 16:30Speaker 3: to closing the gap of the scooter skills.
- 16:34Speaker 5: It doesn't look like it's got any breaks. How did
- 16:36Speaker 5: he stop that nut?
- 16:37Speaker 1: No, that's why I was given to us.
- 16:43Speaker 5: That's some boy, guys in one final thing before you, guys,
- 16:45Speaker 5: tell you like, I know it's going to be a
- 16:47Speaker 5: long way down the track. But when one day when
- 16:50Speaker 5: you do the sw to pull an end of your career,
- 16:52Speaker 5: what do you hope the inscription would be on your
- 16:54Speaker 5: musical chimbstone?
- 16:58Speaker 1: They did it?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Those crazy there?
- 17:08Speaker 5: Very good. All right guys. Well I've got to let
- 17:10Speaker 5: you go now, but thanks for your time. It's been
- 17:11Speaker 5: a pleasure. Angel Baker will be out in Australia with
- 17:14Speaker 5: Silosis next February. The new single Relinquish is out now.
- 17:18Speaker 5: There may or may not be more new music coming
- 17:20Speaker 5: out soon, but we'll see you in a couple of months.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Oh yes, thank you,
