- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: I welcome the show others receiving votes, sports illustrated on path 40 joined by my SI colleagues as usual on over reaction Sunday, Ryan Fisher and Kevin Sweeney.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: We have a million things to talk about.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: So many things happen this weekend, but I feel like something
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: that kind of almost overshadowed all the fun and the excitement and the tumult should probably be noted here and that's the for perspective sake at least the loss of life at the Alamo dome.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Before the UTSA Navy game, they had a group of Air Force people who were repelling from the ceiling and one of them fell into suffered injuries and ultimately died horrific tragedy.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously for that man and his family, but also for everyone who was there to watch a football game and ended up seeing this thing happen.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: the expansion of the playoff and bat officiating and who won and who lost.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: So certainly our thoughts go out to everybody affected there.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: But we will talk about the games and everything else that occurred because that's what we do on the show and it was a weekend unlike any really uncomfortable history.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's how
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: uh... unbelievable insane and unpredictable this whole thing was five of the top seven of the ap poll lost for the first time in history of the ap poll has only been around for ninety years uh... brand was at one of those games top ten match up i was at another he was it be why you know today no controversy there i was at ohio state indiana no drama there
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: And to think of it, beyond that, there was still the number one team in the country lost at home to an unranked team Texas lost again Alabama lost again the sport is on tilt thank goodness it's still 2026 because these games matter more than they would have next year in 2027.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into all of that.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: But let's just start with general reactions to just a wild day.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: What is going on in this sport?
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Brad Fisher, what the heck is happening at God's football?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I wish we could make sense of it, you know, I mean, it's one of those crazy things where it's, it seemed like every TV window, you know, like the NFL has the the witching hour, you know, when it when all the games kind of come to a close and all the drama happens, it's like we got like four of those, you know, like all compacted into one day.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was fantastic.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember a college football day where.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: the drama just kind of flowed from game to game to right team to right team.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was one of one of the best days.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: I could remember in the sport.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, we were at two of the great games that we're going to talk about as well.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like college football, you know, there was all this talk in the stuman gloom, on Thursday and Friday as we hear her about the commissioners meeting and all the playoff expansion.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then the sport just said, you know what, guys?
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is what it's all about.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: This Saturday with all these upsets, with all these memorable moments, this is what college football is all about.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: It mattered on Saturday and boy to deliver.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think I said last week that the countdown over under was Halloween, for when we started saying is eight and four in the SEC good enough.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're here for your folks because the chaos, I think first and foremost is in the SEC right now.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I do think that the narrative that is out there that, oh, well, the SEC spends like no other, the worst things the SEC are not that bad.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: Their best days can beat you.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's real.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm genuinely curious how you guys feel about the way Georgia played yesterday or the way the Texas played like it is truly a mindset shift of
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: do you have to take care of business or are you allowed one or two days where you that not just don't play well, but you play very poorly and loses significant favorites.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the big sea change here that we're going to continue to have to grapple with.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, the balance in the SEC, whether that says more about the top or more about the bottom, to me is the story of the week and we'll have reunification Sierra over the next several as we get towards why off-comers
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's not just the teams that lost.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's also the teams that won him that league.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: Kentucky again, Kentucky's six and one and is one three as you see row games.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Hide for first.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Hide for first.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's not closed.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's unbelievable.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: Auburn gets up off the mat and wins between the hedges against the Georgia team that really looked like, had looked like the best team in the country.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Tennessee, did what it does against Alabama, when Alabama comes to Knoxville, that's three straight times now.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: They have upset the tide there.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there is a, it's an overreaction Sunday, so we'll, you know, we'll add to it for sure.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it here.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Is this emblematic of, yes, a further leveling of the sport?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a parity that's driving
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: The bottomer, the middle closer to the top or the top down closer to the bottomer.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Probably, probably is.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's like Kevin, you asked thoughts on like Georgia just shocked me.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Totally shocked me.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: I will say, in past times until 20, actually really through 2021, Kirby Smart had had teams that they won game, they just lost their mind every year.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that kind of, that went away with certainly 2022.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: They went on to feed in one night as a championship.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but that looked like what we saw from them Saturday.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Where it's just like we're, you know, we're just going to be sloppy.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: We are going to lose focus.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to tackle.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to commit bad penalties.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to turn over the ball.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the funnel by Gunner Stockton in a tie game with the game on
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: was that was it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: After last week, we were all praising Gunner Stockton, you know, for for his, his maturity and his ability to run a game and all that sort of thing.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, God's guys, one week, you're great.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: Next week, not so much.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the, you know, the thing that stands out to me there also beyond that.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: I Notre Dame clearly vulnerable.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: BYU rises the occasion, takes that game, unbelievable performance there.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get to the controversy involved there.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: Miami absolutely on the ropes at home against a Florida State team that had looked terrible.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: So rivalry game there, the Florida State rises up, but Miami, I'm not sure how they won that game, still.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be placing the end zone at the end.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Just it's unbelievable to me there.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know the most consistent teams so far in the country are like BYU and UCLA What kind of world are we living in?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Great weekend for the big 12 we'll get to that as well But the other thing I wanted to talk about here before we get dive into that that maybe some of the nitty gritty on some of these games Look
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: The sport, the players, the competition, as Brian alluded to, just keeps delivering it, never will stop delivering.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: The adults keep screwing it up.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Not just the 2014 playoff, which is coming, which would have devalued a day like yesterday, significantly, it will do that next year.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: But the officiating, we've got to talk about it.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the game management, we've got to talk about it.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: The clock situation in Provo, after we had the clock situation in Ann Arbor, and then pass interference is not getting called enough, roughing the pastor is getting called too much.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Brian, you were in Provo, tell us just what the heck happened there with the game ending prematurely as acknowledged by the big 12th and the no-call in the pastor interference.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there was four seconds left on the clock, certainly before that last play.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: But the final play that we ended up getting to see, and it was a new complete pass.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, you know, probably, I would say what, five, 10 minutes after the game, you know, kind of ended and the field had been rushed, and the euphoria had kind of worn off, you know, I saw some videos certainly popping up online in terms of saying, hey, wait a minute.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: was there a minute or a second left on the clock, you know, and I think you could see the frame by frame.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was like the Zapurator film again, you know, like we went through with Michigan and Western Michigan.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I do give credit to, you know, the big 12.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, not only did they, you know, formally acknowledged that there was an issue in terms of, yes, there should have been type put on the clock.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: which, you know, that is a massive thing, I think, in college for walls for a conference in their marquee game, and something that means tremendous amount to the league itself in terms of the playoff, in terms of, you know, the future, how the league is viewed, you know, right your mark was at that game.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he was going around.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: He was so excited afterwards like to acknowledge that there was an air like I give them a lot of credit and they did it pretty quickly like this was not like the big tin where it took you know like I think it was more than 90 minutes for them to kind of acknowledge there was an issue you know it was it was pretty you know pretty quickly all things considered you know within I would say half an hour to 45 minutes they acknowledged the air
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I give them a lot of credit for doing that, but yeah, I mean, this is this is the problem with having, you know, the big 12 crew or, you know, the conspiracy surrounding the SEC officials and what's happening in the, the office and Birmingham, I cannot believe that for all the commissioners focus.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: on the sport nationally in terms of the college football playoff.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: They still have not talked about nationalizing officiating.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is something I've been having the drum beat for years at this point.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: Probably more like decades, you know, but pounding the storm.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: Why do they want to deal with this issue?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Why why do they not want to, you know, cast it off, say this is the NCA issue, they can deal with all the all the issues that come with, you know,
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: officiating so that they're not having to make these statements, you know, I think that's the thing.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then why are we getting this wrong, constantly?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Why are we having multiple clock issues?
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: This season of all seasons.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the technology has improved.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: We are finally getting a glimpse inside the replay center to where we're actually hearing what's going on in those conversations.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great sign of progress.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice, but it's not enough.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this was another kind of thing that we saw this season.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: where there's going to have to be a serious conversation, come December when we have a chance to catch our breath after the conference side of games before the play I have to say, hey, what needs to be done?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Nationally, as a group collectively, amongst the power of four conferences, amongst college football and general to address an issue that frankly is taking away from the product on and off the field.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's, it is a shame that after a cathartic and massive win for BYU, this is what we're ultimately into talking about first.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, look, I think the biggest thing and whether it's, again, just clear errors like the clock stuff or, um, you know, I think some of the questionable penalties that have been to complete game decideders and big moments this year, like it just feels like there's too many moments in, you know, season defining games where you're like, well, that was kind of decided by the guys and stripes and that's the kind of like that that that that cannot be where we are as a sport and I, I
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I think national identity officials are step.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it solves everything.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of more work to do.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: But managed, like it's deflating every time you watch football game and it's decided by rubbing the pastor call, or it's decided by Ms. P.I.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: or it's decided by somebody screwing up the clock.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, at some point, we have to get a better handle on this if we want these marquee games to be celebrated for what they should be.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's because look, I mean, I don't want to sit here and talk about the officiating and I hate listening to fan bases after they lose.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Say, well, we were robbed.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because everybody doesn't usually, it's a lame excuse, but when you tangibly affect the end of a game, the way these things have happened, it's hard to avoid it.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we don't want to be sitting here talking about whether the ref screwed up or not, but
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: or the plot manager screwed up, but that's unavoidable because it did happen in the big house against Western Michigan, the gave a last play to Michigan that they turned into a Hail Mary touchdown.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it should have given Notre Dame a last play, which wouldn't have been a Hail Mary, would have been,
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, an eight yard pass or what I'm for your past, whatever yard line they were on there and if maybe it should have been moved to the one because maybe there should have been passed interference.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: I thought so Matt Austin, who was the rules analyst and the on the game thought so.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the PI is absolutely a judgment call and it's hard, saying with, you know, the, the people that wanted to recruit or film things as they were the right guard was holding on this touchdown over here.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Those are hard calls.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Those are judgment calls.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: Things happen, but pass interference in the end zone with the game on the line, like happened with Georgia and Alabama that's a no call.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then here, that was a no call.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Either we need something that a national officiating body could do.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, there's an NCAA supervisor officiating that we have those things, but they don't coordinate everything.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree, it would at least disperse some of the paranoia and the responsibility on each league, especially for non-conference games, because we had big 10 clock error in Michigan that helped Michigan.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: We have
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Big 12 stadium error that benefited the home team, BYU, that at least it would in some ways
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Removal removes some of the paranoia and then we're just left with an aptitude is what we're left with that there's no reason for clock areas to happen in this day and age, especially after what happened in an arbor that that kind of swallowed the entire first week there, but if they want to have if they're want I would love to hear from like five experts.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: in officiating.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: Take the plan, take the play in the end zone and be why you take the play at the end zone of brine denny stadium.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: Tell us is that if it is a pass interference or not and why and is it even is it close enough that missing it is understandable or not and then I want like to review like a dozen roughing the pass or calls.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to consensus, this is roughing the pastor, this is not.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: And look, we've seen a lot of quarterbacks get hurt this year.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not saying it should be me open, season head hunting on quarterbacks.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of the injuries have not happened on roughing the pastor plays, or or egregious roughing plays, Dante more yes.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the others know, including Julian's say in yesterday, and we'll get to that.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Legal plays.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: but like the the play the rough in the past are called George Auburn if the Indiana House stay game there was at least one very iffy uh warehouse I had several of them so I would like it I would like a determination I would like it to terminate the the full weight of the body on the quarterback one really kind of bothers me.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Because you are running hard at somebody to tackle them, which is how you are trained to play football.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden you're supposed to kind of not land on them.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know how that's possible.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're taught to go through the person you are trying to hit.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden, magically on the way to the ground, you don't really fully land on them.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: I understand hitting the head, I get that, but the rest of it, I don't know.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thoughts on just on that, rubbing the pastor pass interference if you guys have any, and what what you've seen, what you would like to see.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, we've kind of seen this from the NFL, right?
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they have led, you know, in terms of the controversies surrounding officiating and look, they've, they've, they've got all their slings and arrows, right?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: And they've taken steps to adjust things.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they, they brought in the, the sky judge, you know, and to where they can, you know, quickly review calls and get the correct call down from the booth who's actually watching some of the TV copy in, in near real time to get it down to the officiatings, to the officials down on the field, like they're, they're, they're making steps.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're, they're showing,
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, being progressive on this issue and in college football is not like I mean there's been no change outside of outside of the opening up the replay center What kind of progress have you seen in terms of officials in college football in the last couple of decades?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean we're talking about this you know all the time you know outside of the very unique circumstances that we've seen with the with the actual game clock
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: in terms of the final seconds of the season.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't think there's been much progress at all in terms of, you know, those passenger clearance calls, you know, just the questionable holding calls that, you know, seemed to pop up every single Saturday in every single game, you know, like, I mean, you could go down the line.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it's just a lack of foresight amongst the commissioners in terms of, hey, this is your product.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: You need to be making sure that you're doing everything impossible to make sure that it is better.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: And in this area, they have failed.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: They have not addressed it.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: They have not come together.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's not been some of all the committees and the meetings that they have put together and go to on a daily basis.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is the one thing they really haven't addressed.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And they said, you know,
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they'll do some minor things and maybe they will promote some officials and they'll grab some from other leagues and they'll say they're doing their job in terms of making sure that they have the best officials out there, but they're really not.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: And this is much different from the NFL in terms of those professional guys that they are really getting paid a pretty hefty salary to make sure that they are doing the best that they can each and every Sunday.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: That is not the case on Saturdays.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's failing the sport.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is hurting the product and we saw that again
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing that rattles around my mind is, like, should we have replay on penalties?
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like, pass interference?
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I think your instinct every time you see a big miss is like, well, it'd be nice to you to challenge that.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: Seems like it obviously is miss.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: And then you watch NBA games and you can challenge foul calls and it's, like, I hate it personally.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's way too much, like, let's go away on the sideline for three minutes while we decide to determine the fate of the game based on, like, bang, bang plays.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like, so I'm probably not in that camp, I'm probably more in just like, we have to do a better job on the field of dealing with these things, but that is the other option.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you don't feel like these guys can do it on the field, you need to open up this avenue where people can challenge and get a P.I.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: call tackdown when it's very obvious.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I don't want more replay review and things that make the games even longer.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: They already last in eternity in college football.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure what the answer is other than just do better.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Again, maybe educate us, the viewers, the media, everybody, a little more on what is or isn't.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: So if we're wrong, tell us, but sure doesn't look wrong.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: We've watched a lot of football over the years.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we have a general idea what the rules are.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if there is something we're not seeing right, tell us, if we're seeing it correctly, then you'll get it right more often.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Please.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: As Brad alluded to, it does, this did overshadow an unbelievable game.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: One of the great nights in BYU football history and the big 12.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's talk about them and let's talk about BYU right now, fantastic performance.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: They took it to Notre Dame the whole night.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: just a bare-bock mile was just a warrior, you know, gave everything he had out there and really gashed an Notre Dame defense that had been overpowering for most of the season, CJ Carr had a huge shoe.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Gaff at the end of the first half that ended up playing a major part in the game where there was trying to clock the ball and ended up humbling it that was a weird play, but Brian just what you're there you're on there like the field gets stormed what did this mean for BYU what does it mean for the big 12.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, it meant everything, you know, I mean, you had guys afterwards, you know, they were crying on the field, you know, they said this was that they're, you know, and, you know, to be productive, you know, like they are 18 to I guess 26 year olds here there at BYU.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: saying, you know, this is the greatest moment in my life, you know, and, and, and, you know, they're in the middle of the field storm and they're crying and, I mean, I mean, a lot for for for the program itself, you know, had, which had been so close to kind of getting one of these moments before knocking off one of those top students saying that they are national title container.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great way to announce that.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: this season and and to do it against Notre Dame.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot put into this game.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the school itself, you know, they understood the moment that this was in terms of having the first ever Topdance showdown there at La Valle de Wood Stadium, but but also, you know, understanding there's a lot of media attention in there, you know, like they were opening up, you know, areas that they had previously not had to And interpret the school itself, you know, just like so in the missionary stuff like they invited a bunch of media members to kind of come through and see what the school's all about.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Understanding this was the greatest commercial they could ever have and then they captured off on Saturday night after game day after everything all that went into it I mean it was a great moment for the program and you could see that just kind of release afterwards once that pass with one second left as we previously discussed kind of hit the turf I mean it was just like just such a cathartic release, you know for the entire fan base and in for
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, people like Collinisa talking to self who understood that like these are the moments that that can kind of change the course of your program change how you're viewed by recruit and by everybody to say hey we we are a national title container and I think that's kind of what they did in this game and you know it was it was a phenomenal dramatic game back and forth you know,
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: two years ago.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: So like that just kind of shows you that this is not a position that the Iris were typically in.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's torn back in the second half ended up taking the lead midway through the fourth quarter and then, you know, dramatic 55 yard touchdown drive led by Bear Bokmire, who had the hat trick, you know, like we were all talking about him, you know, as a passer, like he ended up throwing the game winning touchdown to Walker Lines, great little slant that he had right there in the in zone, caught a touchdown earlier in the game
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's funny because you get caught up so much in the moment and then you look back and you're sitting in the press conference afterwards trying to make sense of it all.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at the stat sheet and sometimes you have a little bit of a disconnected in terms of what you're seeing on that box score and what else will you kind of play it out in front of you for three and a half hours and you said if bear mock Meyer and if they said he would have had 36 attempts and CJ car would have had 49 attempts.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know you would have said I don't know if this is coming down to the very last
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: of the game.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, Kudos to BYU.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: They were in their bag early in terms of some trick plays and some of the motions like they got BYU's or Notre Dame's defense like all out of whack and it certainly did not help in terms of Troy Ori, right, you know, first drive, getting that get and that tossed out of the game for just a mindless, nonetheless like what are you thinking type of penalty?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of the targeting and late hit on Bach mayor.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that kind of changed the tenor for the Irish defense who, you know what, let's face it.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: This was a massive game in this 12 team era in terms of, hey, you almost have to win out at this point because you want sitting there at tenor to this at the end of the year.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: We understand they've already been in that position before.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, just the lack of ability to get, you know, wins like this, those top 25, top 10 wins, that that's just not there on the, on the Irish schedule.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, massive win for, for BYU gives them a little bit of leeway in, in a pretty loaded big 12 at this point with with two other undefeated and the Holy War coming up here in a couple weeks.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, massive for them, massive for the big 12, because you can now see a path certainly to get, uh, two teams of the playoff, which was kind of their, their conferences stay to go.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think there was a player that changed my mind more yesterday than bear Bachmire.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: Just, but I did not think this BYU passing offence would be good enough to move the football against the best, the best.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that if they had a path in this game, if they had a path in the playoff, it was like, how can we win 17 to 13 with a defensive score and control the clock and bleed it?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: And,
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he proved we were wrong.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Aaron Roderick called like a monster of a game.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that was offensive coordinating and it's finest and put there in good position to succeed.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: But particularly with Adel J. Martin, the ways that they were able to move the football and defense, I think we all agree as one of the best of not the best in college football.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: That was very impressive to me.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I think certainly changes your opinion of BYU as a whole and how dangerous they can be.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: And then obviously on the Notre Dame side,
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: At some point we got to get up for a big game, like I don't think they came out even knowing what you were walking into.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they came out with the level of edge that you needed to.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: I thought I think they thought that they could win on talent alone in this football game, and very quickly realize they couldn't.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: And we're chasing it from there.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they should have a lot of resilience.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Late in that game, once their offense got going, it was
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: As Brian said, because of the schedule and because of the way that, again, the narrative is already out on the Notre Dame schedule, I actually wanted to kind of wait and see like, hey, what happens if Wisconsin beats UCLA, and I'll send me to talk about this Wisconsin one, so they did not be UCLA that that does not look like an age as though it's a, you know, play off contender victory.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have no idea what you do with Notre Dame so you can't be Miami at home.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm fully convinced, so this is one of the 12 best things in college football, and maybe that's all it'll take, but
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: You talk, I mean, Marcus Freeman's whole thing was like, how do we leave no doubt this year?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: And right, the doubt is certainly creeping in doubt is doubt is arrived.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's day Notre Dame last year, and this year, a lot of big victories over mediocre to sub-medi-ocard teams and close losses to good teams.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's the bottom line.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's the record right now.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: And they don't have a USC on the schedule, which isn't there doing that's USC's doing, but that's the case.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: There's a little more shine on the North Carolina win as the tar heels are now four and two when I thought they might be one and five at this point, so kudos to build Bella check, but yeah, the Wisconsin win was not bad, but it's not landmark the Miami game looms incredibly large.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because Notre Dame at 10 and 2, if they haven't beaten anybody, is once again, we're in the same spot as last year.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: And we know what happened then, they didn't get in and they took their ball and went home.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see how that all develops.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, if you have thoughts, the rest of the big 12 is fascinating.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Texas Tech,
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: continues to win, you talk continues to win, Houston won a big one over Oklahoma State.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do they have, they have four candidate, do they have four or playoff contenders?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: And if so, just getting, who are the two that could get in?
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, I'm gonna say, BYU and Texas Tech are the two, I would rank highest at this point, a greater disagreeor disagreeor.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: I would agree and look, you know, the thing about the schedule is like this is, you know, created by the big 12 to like have a perfect scenario set up to where they could get multiple teams in just because of the fact that you know what Texas tech does not play BYU or or they're to be Houston.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: They do not play BYU or Utah in terms of the regular season.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: So like they're only potential chance.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think given the light slate that they have and yes, they do have some other games, you know, down the road that maybe they're rivalry game in state rivalry games, maybe,
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: in college football, but let's face it, you know, this was set up for Texas Tech to run the table.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: And they're finally looking like that kind of team that could actually do that at this point.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think they got off to a very slow start this year, just kind of look just joined it a little bit, but these last couple of weeks, you know, especially that winning against Arizona State.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they jumped out on early and never looked back and this was kind of the team we kind of expected out of Texas Tech, especially offensively.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: in terms of how they could put up points, how they looked like so dangerous in terms of the number of weapons they can throw at you.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: The quarterback situation is finally resolved itself.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this was text tech kind of looking like the tech that we expected to.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think you add that into BYU and what they've accomplished and then on conference slate, especially having a head-to-head win against a,
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, they decide if they finish 10 zoom, be why you finish this, you know, 10 to 2 or even 10 and 3 with the loss into the big 12 time game, you know, I think we understand the what the committee has to do in terms of respecting that head to head based on past president last year.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: So the, you know, the big 12 is perfectly positioned and then you do have Houston out there in terms of their schedule coming up, it's possible they finish 11 and one don't even make it to our LinkedIn for the big 12 title game so they're going to be seeing out there with a close.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: inches short against Texas Tech, if you remember that game on Friday night.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: So they will have a claim certainly to just be a playoff team and I think it's going to come down to some interesting conversation certainly for the committee.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: When they start meeting next month in terms of how do we value these teams in the big 12s who have good records, who look like they are good teams, how do we value that against some of these SEC and big 10 teams who have additional losses, who maybe have tripped up on the cells throughout a college football Saturday,
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, how do we kind of value that strength of schedule?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that is going to be a drum beat that we're going to have constantly throughout the month of November because it's going to come into play because what the big 12 is done so far.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say Utah, I think has been better for the first six weeks than Texas tech has, but I think you start to see Texas tech turn in the corner, which I think you would have hoped what happened as well, Hammond comes off the ACL, right?
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think that's something you want to give them some grace early, especially offensively, with what Hammond again, the lack of like normal practice reps, the lack of just time on the knee and feeling good about yourself.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they seem to be turning a corner offensively.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's used to look like a very serious team and they struggle with them, but, you know, Houston's was clearly like a very good opponent, Oregon states a real opponent, right?
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: That, you know, like, Texas tech took a lot of grief for not putting away Oregon State.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know, man, Oregon State is at least they could be a blast in conversation.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they could, they're in the G6 conversation.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: So that helps I think a lot for Texas Tech, and it does force you to re-value it a little bit.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the thing you have to bet on, if you're playing, if you're going to play off-game, it's like, can Texas Tech go 12 and out with this very manageable schedule?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then they're probably a lot for this, what happens in our LinkedIn and BYU, if they're,
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: 11 and 2, if they're 11 and 1, if they're, obviously, if they win the bigs while they're in, right, like that then you feel really good about at least getting to and then I doubt you see a third.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so pretty skeptical that, but there's there's four, it'll contenders right now.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's I think it would be wrong to write off any of four at this day.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the top four are all legitimate and I think this is a great opportunity, especially given the mayhem in the SEC to get two teams in for the big 12th and it's just going to be a great stretch run in that league.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: The Holy War is going to be bonkers and then the title game could have massive stakes.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to have title games anymore after this year, so enjoy it
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, one other question for you guys, I'm going to give you four teams.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: You tell me who you rank number one Kevin, I'll go to you first.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Miami, Ohio State, BYU or UCLA, who you rank number one.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think we should be all surrendering to our brewing overlords at this point.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but uh, I think Ohio State is is the serving number one team, right?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: They lost a shocker, and they're only lost.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: They have a monster roadwin.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: They're, again, like a breaker two away from having, you know, two incredible roadwin's.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: To me, they look like the best team in the country, but they might not for along with the say and injury.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: And that's, again, this is the challenge of ranking teams.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, who's ranking ahead?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: Who's ranking in prediction of future struggles?
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Who's ranking simply on the results?
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: Who's ranking on talent?
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm going to be a split decision, but I think they earn it more than Miami after Miami is not good yesterday.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: I was a Chris the ball tried to have a Chris the ball game and Florida's they just not quite good enough to take advantage.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, are we still sure that they didn't come down with that ball in the end zone?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're saying, you know, like that.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm not sure.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: Who are you rank number one, friend?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I have seen Miami and BYU and back back weeks, so I will caveat that I just think at this point in the season, you do have to consider resume a little bit more than you do in terms of the eye test and and look that's definitely comes into play.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think after last night I would give BYU the number one ranking, you know, just in terms of having.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the marquee win, I think that Arizona win is aging really nicely for BYU too.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: They they really dominated that game kind of pulled away from them late as well.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that is is something in the Cooper's favor.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they play defense, they play offense.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: They may have questionable fake pun decisions, but they're pretty good on on special teams.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and look, clients that I kind of acknowledge that he's like, you know, look, you know, kind of got caught up in the moment and I was trying to be aggressive and, you know what, uh, you know, you fake a pun and sometimes it blows up in your face.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, thankfully for the coogers should do not blow up in terms of the actual went loss and went a loss, but, um, you know, I think at this point they are deserving number one.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know what they they've answered every question and you know that they just kind of inch ahead Ever so slightly in my mind ahead of Miami if I were actually ranking these teams with Ohio State third and I think you know the Bruins.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I'm sitting there and I'm looking at them and I'm saying This is this is Indiana Redux, you know, in terms of not beating yourself everybody playing you know that the defense and in particular like that is probably Everybody focuses on the offense and the way night and the rushing attack but like that the improvement defensively
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: It is why they are here too, and you know, I credit to Bob Jessney and coffee.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is, this is, you know, this is Indiana Redux out west and one of the great stories, you know, in college school.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you kind of wonder if, you know, the pressure that they are heaping across town as well, going through this run.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just tremendous only in college football type of moment.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: So that's how I kind of have those teams.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's astounding again what they're doing.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: And the number of people Bob Chesney is making look bad right now is incredible, including the athletic director Penn State, it didn't want to hire.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: And what a week.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was told to add and remember go to these venues at next to me.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, man, a penny for Pat Crass thoughts this weekend because of Kalani Sittaki.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, the crumble cookie monster, you know, himself coming back, getting this massive win on a road and being undefeated, having a claim for number one, greatest win in school history.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: You have Bob Chesney out there undefeated, looking like a playoff team, especially given that schedule that they have in the back after the year.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oof, Petcraft.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: He used film, especially if he rocked back, just looked absolutely dread.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was a dreadful game between them and Michigan.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much of you guys caught the CBS through 30 game, but like that was, that's a, that's a football back a few, a few years there.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: someone had to win it.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody had to win it and it was a good CJ car in the car that lost today.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, it was the team that benched their $3 million quarter back and put in CJ car's little brother Tommy.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was like eight yards away from a hell of a day for the car family, but you win one, you lose one.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I do
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: All flowers that Cologne is talking.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't really get the level of respect, probably, that some of the elite coaches in the country do, but he deserves it.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, his record is incredible over the last few years here.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then you get this stage, and you just orchestrated perfectly, one bad fake pun aside.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: And your team rises, and you perform in a manner that it was just,
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: you know, exemplary.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: They live to the moment in that that's coaching leadership program building the whole deal.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's to, I think I would put BYU number one, but I'm also going to give you this.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: Miami's victory at Wake Forest is a really good win.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, look at what Wake Forest is doing.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like we can't really compute Wake Forest quality win.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Wake Forest is killing people.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, they're destroying people.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: They are.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: Wake Forest is a wagon.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: They have laid ways to the Bay Area.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that doesn't necessarily say a lot, but still, oh my God, what they've done to Stanford, you call this.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: like disrespectful.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm still deciding whether I want to put BYU or Miami number one.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's no disrespect to Ohio State.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I was there and I saw them.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk a little bit about that game here.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was like this was the
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: The atmosphere you'd never seen in Bloomington before for a home game, I have been there several times when Ohio State comes to town and the stadium is full and the stadium is red and 50% of it at least is scarlet not crimson.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's Ohio State fans this time 90% Hoosiers they kept their tickets they protected home turf in terms of who got in.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: had their first lost offensive fumbles since the first game of 2025 had some key penalties.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then of course, they had the mistake that decided the game Nick Marsh with a pass.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Hoover said, Hey, I could have thrown it a little further inside.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: And he was right.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: He could have, but still elite receivers at Nick Rock Marsh is one of them make that plug and you win the game or at least you're
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: They were free to come down with that foot out of bounds.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think everybody was shocked.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Literally, the stadium operations crew was so shocked.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: They set off the fireworks.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was a touchdown.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: So in the end, I lose this for the first time and forever, a signetic came in like the almost shipper.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, Sun's coming up tomorrow on a Michigan.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: But then he answered all the questions.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was good.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: Hoover was good to talk to.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: Backer was a little chippy.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't come away with any, I don't have concerns about any.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Indiana still play off caliber team.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm impressed with Ohio State, but the question is yes, like Julian San Lisa was throwing arm in a sling and Ryan Dase says he'll be out several weeks.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if this is shoulder separation, if this is broken collarbone, I don't know.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's bad.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't rank teams on projection and rank them on resume.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I will put Ohio State 1, 2, or 3 for sure.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: But what are we to make of the book?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: I said, how did they end up with a true freshman back up quarterback?
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: Any thoughts there, Brian?
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: I just want what you think this does for Ohio State?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and yeah, I mean, I think there was a lot of eyebrows that, you know, it was look fake coming in and not to having to take care of much targeted prospect that is there in Columbus that, you know, they were really excited to get.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: And seemed like there was some positive reports, you know, about them coming and said, maybe that was like a more of a veteran guy knows the system a little bit better if you're going to throw somebody in.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, against an Indian a team that just like loves to bring a simulated pressures and so many crazy looks at you.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he was just kind of the guy for the moment and obviously they didn't ask him to do too much to pass this down stretch.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like it wasn't like who out there and when it's game.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: It was don't lose it for us, you know, an injury throwing a
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: massive interception.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: I do give credit.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was a game for all the focus on on Ohio State's office and understandably and especially the quarterback situation like Kudos to, you know, Matt Patricia, the defense of coordinator, like it lost a bunch of bodies, but like he said, I'm going to make this a Josh Hoover game.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they limited them 73 yards in terms of the rushing attack.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: They just did not have many explosives in this game, lots of lot of guys, you know, in terms of some of the injuries, a lot of key guys, especially up front, but they controlled the line of scrimmage and they made Josh Hoover feel it.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like it wasn't just even, you know, the the fumbles like I mean, it was like he was having him.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, quickly processed, you know, decision like it was a miracle, almost that he didn't throw an interception at this point.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, given that he had to get the ball out so quickly and you know, 20 to 40, I think that kind of said it all in terms of his stat line.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, kudos to the Buckeye's defense, which was kind of the bigger question mark.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, about the team moving forward is, all right, you lose all those draft picks and you lose all that talent.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, how are you going to replace them?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's a team that it does reload.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, on that side of the ball, but like, you know, we've got to see it in action.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, there was there was some question marks I think coming into this game.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of how ready they were, especially after what happened in that fourth quarter in Austin in terms of getting stops.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: And this defense stepped up and they did it in a big time moment to deliver one of the marquee victories that we are going to see this season in terms of beating Indiana at their place.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, with the offense, you know, still a little bit of a work in progress, you know, in terms of, you know, the consistency and even that was before Julian saying, you know, got lost.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the 200 exceptions were bad.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: They were forced throws in Jeremiah's best direction.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, you know what, we're often the not those were going to be fine decisions, but in this game where the margins were so thin against any and team playing at home.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that they were bad decisions and that led to this game be much closer than it should have been for Ohio State and now there's some looming question.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that game yes they they go into the buy before going out to LA, but man, if everything lined up for Lincoln Riley, it's having to play an Oregon backup quarterback to play Ohio State with their backup quarterback like if Lincoln Riley can't get this done.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can understand the inks there and Los Angeles, which might be greater right now than the inks there and Columbus given the quarterback situation.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, what's so jarring about the quarterback situation is that.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: At the end of the day, Ohio State has always had a great back up.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like they have been the ultimate next man up.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: I was going through when I was the only game I can remember, where it's like, oh my god, the Ohio State, quarterbacks are just horrible.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: Was the the bull game against Missouri a couple of years ago?
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, but I had some weird hodgepodge of Keenholtz and Devin Brown, like, yeah, that was, and I was like freshman Lincoln Keenholtz, you know, before he was a serious dude.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_02]: But like Dave, Dave always had.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: that dudes coming up and maybe they will be but and that was just a situation where say we got to call this thing super conservative and just try to get out of here alive.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I have real concerns about Ohio State's offense if sayings out for a significant stretch just because they have not been dynamic in the wrong game really at all.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: They have found ways to be effective running the football, but it's going to be harder to get
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: If there isn't as much of a fear of of this offense, throwing the ball down a field and saying to ability to push push the football deep, obviously Jeremiah Smith, shoot if I was if I was calling that offense, I might just snap at the Jeremiah if I have to and some of these moments and maybe they will, but yeah, I'll all of a sudden a lot more intrigued for that game at USC a lot more intrigued against Oregon, we look this there is not one game on the remaining part of their schedule that is.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's not another Indiana on this schedule.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: But if you told me they lost to any of the five teams left, especially if Julian's saying it's not a quarterback, you wouldn't be shocked, right?
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like you would not be forward if North Western beat them in a month.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: If Julian's saying it's not the quarterback.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now, again, what do you do with Ohio State?
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, again, we're we're putting
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: But how do we value it?
- 45:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: But it was an enormous win.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: They were a really clearly better team.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: And Andy and a hung around, which was well coached and disappointed enough.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: Probably should have won in the end on the next March though.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: It was open.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: Got to go find a way to make that play.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was I was impressed with Ohio State.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they were they were better for the 60 minute fight and I was I thought it was the type of performance you were looking for from the screw overall.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: Just worry about saying that.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, they they did they play extremely well said the defense was outstanding.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: They're a quality team, but this is such an equation changer, and it's also the best time to open date you could possibly have as you're trying to regroup, and it could be they end up going with David St. Clair at quarterback at maybe, you know, like, hey, we just now we've got it.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to get him rushed up and make him the guy here.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: If he's our better chance to go and forward.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we've kind of almost semi decided that we all want to pick somebody different number one.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: How do you rank the SEC teams?
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any in the top five?
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: And where do you put it?
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like is it is Georgia still the top rank team or is it Kentucky?
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: What about Mrs. Sippy?
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: I would guess those are the three top teams in the rankings now from the SEC.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: What about Tennessee?
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: How far do you drop the two lost teams?
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is shaping up to be the, again, the lobbying effort of all time, the argument of all time, like just what do you do with the SEC teams?
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: Kevin, do you have a thought like, who should be the highest rank one and how high should they be ranked?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, to a degree, I sort of approach, when everybody flops, we just kind of stick with your priors from the week before.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I was Georgia before then.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that Georgia losing makes me think that Kentucky or Ole Miss is better, but at the same time, like again, if we're ranking teams, there has to be some reaction to the fact that you just lost to the Auburn at home.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's an absolute,
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then a stunner.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, like we did the ranking of the one loss, SEC teams a couple weeks ago.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I had almost the top because I just was like, man, I trusted it.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: I turned it on a channel.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the other stuff.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it'll figure itself out.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of still feel that way, right?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: Again, as all the chaos happens, it's just like,
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: You're probably going to have to go win a game late.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I trust her to that Jam was more than any other player and I said, to go do that.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_02]: And they were very, very impressive yesterday.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: That was the result that we'll not get a lot of attention because of all the chaos, because of all the crazy.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they dominated Missouri.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_02]: Now again, how good is Missouri?
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: We don't really know that we'll have Florida.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: What does that mean?
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's Florida, it's Florida not.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're the ultimate check on high football team of the college football season.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: That was the type of kind of compelling performance we were waiting on from this Ole Miss group.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, now they go into really the heart of their schedule with Texas and Georgia here in the next few weeks.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: But I think I think right now I was a Georgia the best team and if you want to rank them, I would say Ole Miss should be the number one team because, you know, their loss was maybe the most understandable and they have some serious wins.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea, you know, I cut it through my hands, just because, you know, like it alone at sample sizes that we have in terms of some of these teams beating each other up.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we will get a little bit better since here the next couple of weeks, you know, given that Florida plays Georgia, you know, we do get some more of the crossover to rekind of really determined things.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: I do think, you know, in terms of being the most complete team.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in terms of the team, you could still see winning the national title.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: It still is Georgia, even after the inexplicable loss.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was just a game that Kirby started, you know, to Pat, I think you mentioned the point earlier, like they just don't lose that.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was what 58 straight against unranked opponents.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: And it seemed like, you know, you knew, and especially once they came back and tied the score late, like, you know, the, all right, the here's here comes Georgia.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right, they're, they're going to take care of this.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: But like, you know, the penalties, the turnovers, you know, like that was just not, it was just like kind of Georgia lost their mind a little bit.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's just awkward magic.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know it was not it's Jordan here, but like I feel like that's maybe just playing Auburn at this point.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: And they were certainly going to be good for for one of those crazy results, you know, season.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe this was just it.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this is just kind of Georgia's week off.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know what that they get.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're feeling themselves after being Alabama.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: the nature of the SEC can't be up for every single game and you know what they saw an operant team that had struggled previously and you know what, not the greatest record in the world new coaching staff you know quarterback that's not being talked talked about quite a bit maybe they just kind of overlooked them a little bit and that's going to happen in the SEC so I do kind of see setting them aside a little bit.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think Old Miss is kind of
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, pretty comfortably at this point, kind of the second best team.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: If we actually look at, you know, the resume, if we look at having a guy at for it, like Trinidad Jameless, I mean, he was dealing once again against the Missouri defense that had, you know, put up some resistance previously.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think the defense has improved massively for the rebels, especially since we know we saw them pat against LSU, like they've gotten better each week, defensively, which is kind of really helping their cause and and I think they can kind of solidify that this week and Austin as they go in there and they can kind of put.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: Not only in Texas playoff hopes for good and very them and throw some extra dirt on the coffin, but like this is a team that I think is playing well right now and playing well at the right time.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so I do kind of look George old miss and then right there.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not doubting Kentucky at this point.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's crazy to think, you know, like Kenny Minci is playing within his, you know, playing within that system.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: The defense has been much approved in terms of what they do down to down.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: So like this is a team that is playing well.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what that game.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when they traveled to New England in a couple weeks for that Tennessee game, which who had that as one of those games, you know, that you're going to circle on the calendar.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in terms of I think it's November 7th, like, which is awesome weekend for the sport like you're going to have to pay attention to that like that that's how big that game is now not only in the SEC standings.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: But in terms of the playoff, like these are two legitimate playoff teams.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: And like if it comes like the ends of winning that one, like you can actually pencil them in for the playoff, like that is where they are at.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: And and Kudos to Bullstein, like it has been a mentality change there in Lexington.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: He is focusing this team week to week and they are taking care of business.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: And they did one of the better.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: you know, portal overhauls as well.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like they went out.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: They spent a lot more money than they usually had, especially compared to last season, that is showing up on the field now.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's, you know, kudos to them, kudos to the SEC, but like even even Florida, you know, as you mentioned, Kevin, as Jekyll had hide as they have been, like this is a team that, uh,
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: went into Austin with a backup quarterback against one of them probably the most talents roster I would say in the sport and made them look silly in terms of running off with a backup quarterback.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Being able to throw the ball, being able to make the crucial plays on both sides of the ball like Kudos to Florida, John's normal has been playing well.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like it would surprise me at all if they ended up beating Georgia and they're still right back in you know to to the playoff mix.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so this is just another day in the life of the SEC.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's probably contributing to kind of the aches there in Birmingham in terms of what is the committee going to do with this ninth conference game, without these additional losses from these contenders.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, is it going to end up costing these teams?
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that's to kind of why the SEC in these last couple of weeks come around to say, all right, we need some get out of jail free cards because what does just mean more.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it also means a little bit more losses as well.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to hear about the ninth conference game yet because they've played like five or four and they've our lost.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, it eventually came out of effect.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it may be a legitimate factor, but right now it's not.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_00]: You've played three and four games.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: You've lost and that brings us to Texas.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: What the hell?
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, as you said, maybe the most talented roster in the country.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: They lost, their season was ruined last year by losing the floor.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been ruined again by losing the floor.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: The two different coaches, completely different setups, the whole deal.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: Four to the back up quarterback to Real Jones.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: They really flag well, but you go into Austin and beat them there.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Sark is running out of cover here.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think we've, personally, I've decided on arch arch is just a pretty good quarterback.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's okay.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's not, he's not, he's not elevating you.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: You don't win a national title because of arch.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's it interestingly enough.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not overly productive 173 passing yards one touchdown, his efficiency rating was the highest since the opener against Texas state, so it wasn't like he was just out there throwing interceptions and missing receivers all day.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: But he as who he is in my opinion, like, you know, I'm just not even, like, I don't expect more from him than I'm seeing.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: I get occasional plays he can make sure, but there's not enough consistently that that I think that guy's going to go, like, just shred a bunch of SEC defenses between now and selection Sunday.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_00]: But Sark, Sark, the situation with Sark is not good.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: I said last week, like you don't just change play colors at this point in the year.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm reconsidering.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's bad.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're often just bad.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're not getting it done.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: Brian, how much legitimate heat do you think there is on Sark, especially if they end up missing the playoff?
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's quite a bit of heat.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think there's probably a misnomer that, you know, the Texas crowd, you know, a little bit of a wine and cheese, you know, back in the, but man, they care about their football.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: And they understand what good football is.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: And what bad football is, and that is what
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you mentioned Sark there and I think there's going to be an understandable focus on arch just because of everything that has to do with with the manning name.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: And like I don't think necessarily he is the the issue right now.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think it does fall on Steve Sark.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's I mean, there's a point there, you know, like midway through the the fourth quarter that Texas, you know, against their the rest of the powerful opposition, especially in the SEC play, they had to manage third down conversions as they did against Ohio State alone.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is just not a team on third down when it matters that they've
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: And that falls on the play car like there's no rhythm at all once they get beyond those initial opening scripts, which are fantastic, you know, which everybody seems on the offensive to be able to execute, you know, just find and get out to a nice start and and then they just slowly seem to not understand what to do with it with the ball in their hands and whether it's turnovers whether it's just you know failing on third down there just no rhythm to the offense and you know after red river.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: I went in that press conference and Steve was pretty like, he was kind of to find a little bit of land.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: Almost understanding like, look, we killed ourselves.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_01]: We had the turnovers, you know, arch through it, you know, to them twice that kind of gifted them that game.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: We do the pump block, like that's just kind of one of those things that happens, right?
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and plus the nature of Red River, you could kind of understand, all right, he was a little to find after this game.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he just sounded lost like I mean for Lauren and lost like he he's like I don't know like and and when when when you're 12 11 12 main other coaches I don't know like that that is more than red flags there in Austin so I think it's a significant issue for Texas especially after a lot happened last season like this you know this reminded me I think there might have a lot of folks you know of the floor to loss last year.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just in terms of being inexplicable, and that was the case again, it gets to back up quarterback.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: And as a result, John Summer was the one walking out of there with cowboy hat and all smiles, and it's not not happening there on the Texas sidelines for short.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I don't view arch manning right now as a confident quarterback.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I think when like he is as best when he can just let it rip,
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: And for whatever reason, there's a block there.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, I think if you're sorry, you have to really evaluate like...
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: You can't you just can't play with a scared quarterback.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: And that that to me is what our expanding looks like he is right now.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, um, I'm not saying you benchmark.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't love the option behind, but like I think every option is to be on the table with the way that they're offenses playing with how, again, with how much talent they have, right?
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, there's still scoring points.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is not enough with the way that they are built.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that they have not been able to get more out of camp Coleman, it's like crazy to me.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: That guy is,
- 57:29[SPEAKER_02]: ultra talented, ultra gifted, there's dudes everywhere.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, they're scoring points, but they're not the dominant force on offense that they should be with again, theoretically a brilliant offensive head coach theoretically and I fell quarterback, which I don't think he is at this point, maybe he will be one day is not right now with all this talent, it just I think everything needs to be on the table entering, I think the final month and a half of the season and
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, should we see again what the resume conversations in the being with Texas?
- 57:59[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, so we'll go back to the well of what we played Ohio State.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: So one lost shit in count, essentially.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_02]: So you should view us like a two lost team because we hadn't played a big non-conference game.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it doesn't matter where the win the game or lose the game, you can just play the game and spin the starts, spin the wheels, but like,
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's, I just don't see a world where this team comes out of this unscathed.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_02]: So we're, we're, we're talking about a three-year-old Texas, I think, on slash Sunday, where that leaves them, I don't know, maybe good enough, but they're just not a team you have any confidence or belief in right now when you watch the play.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think they play like a team that has a lot of belief in itself, and that's, that's the frustrating factor right now.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not for lack of talent was pointed out.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: There are eight of 36 in SEC play on third-down conversions.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's not good at all.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's really bad among other issues there.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: I hate to say that I actually was speaking to a group in Texas before the season.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, every year there's one team that's with huge expectations, the wheels fall completely off.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: And Texas A&M's kind of that team, but there's higher expectations.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_00]: And last year, it was Penn State, like once you lost one, everything collapsed.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, you know, Texas is kind of that team.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't expect that to happen, but watch what happens if you lose one.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_00]: Do you then fall apart?
- 59:21[SPEAKER_00]: And my point was I thought it might be Ohio State.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_00]: And they would lose their game, but they didn't.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_00]: They won that game, but now you lose red river.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: You follow it up with a bad loss here.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think crisis watches absolutely on and Sark's got a way to find a way to circle the wagons immediately there.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that you mentioned Penn State there and I'm going to curious what you guys think.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, would you put Texas in that bucket or would you put Oregon?
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I feel like those are, they're, they're one in the same at this point in the in the season, especially given the fun goes that we had, we saw the ducks very late at night in terms of putting away Nebraska, like you talk about high expectations to talk about the roster spend and it just has not coalesced at all on the field for for either those programs that let's face it like I mean, they were in the top three for a reason, both those programs.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_01]: like coming into the year, we had expectations for the, it has not coalesced and a lot of it's probably going to be reflected on their head coaches, but like it, I mean, it's wild to think, you know, not only can we get one pin state, we might have two pin states out there.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sure, it's possible.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_00]: But that's a great segue, Brian, because that leads me to, let's do our weekly Heisman.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to give out our weekly Heisman, we're going to fire somebody.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: There's plenty of people to fire, but I'm going to do the Heisman first, because here's what I'm
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_00]: Dylan Rayola, came off the bench.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this guy, it looked like he is career was shattered all over the field against UCLA.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_00]: He gets the start after he been on the bench.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: He plays as badly as you can possibly play.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_00]: He gets benched for a third string walk on, handles it, goes in, post game, owns it,
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: stays on the bench.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: They start brought Thomas, interesting decision.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_00]: Dan Lane and he didn't work out very well.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: They were absolutely horrible.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: That game was so bad.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was so bad.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: But they are losing, they bring Rayola in.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_00]: He gets them back, Nebraska does what it does finds a way to lose a close game.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_00]: But Dylan Ralla, you are getting my Heisman just for pure resilience.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: 11 of 18, 59 yards, the winning touchdown.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_00]: Good job, man.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: Way to bounce back.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: You guys got a Heisman.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go with Michael Hawkins Jr. And West Virginia.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, me, you talk about carrying a team.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, 33 attempts for 464 yards three touchdowns through the air.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_01]: 26 carries for 77 yards and two scores.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_01]: They should have graphic there, uh, for for the TNT broadcast that like his, his season so far.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're only in weeks seven.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_01]: Mind you that he's kind of in between, uh, two of Pat White's greatest seasons there in terms of rushing the football.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: Cincinnati gave over 600 yards of offense and scored 42 points and lost.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_01]: So liking that for some of those barricades fans, but Michael Hawkins Jr. On a day where John material throws a weight pic six to to in Oklahoma's cause against Kentucky.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like I mean, you want to talk about like all right, well, this is who we could have and this is who we have and maybe Oklahoma adding to the misery there in terms of a phenomenal performance there for Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: the video of the Kentucky bench when Oklahoma tried a flea flicker that was disastrous and the Kentucky bench was like point and cross the way like yeah I work on us fellas like that was pretty awesome.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_02]: My husband and I see a game we didn't talk at tonne about uh the Sean Bishop Tennessee.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean that was
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_02]: It is fascinating to watch the evolution of this Tennessee program under Hypal because, again, all it was all about spread and how can, how can we, how could we dynamic offensively and they are a kick you in the butt football team right now.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: and they did it to Kielan Russell and then to Sean Bishop lined up 32 times for 150 nine yards and two touchdowns and his long run was 20 which means he was hammering between those tackles for a lot of those reps which was a which is impressive to watch.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was it was a very very good performance from Tennessee.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_02]: I was that was a statement when not just again to win the game they needed it but
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_02]: how they did it, the way that they physically dominated Alabama, that has to feel good if you're Josh Eipul and your program at large in terms of where you're from a talent standpoint, where they're physically, I mean, this is a group that is winning in spite of quarterback play, not because of, probably for the first time in Hypal's tenure.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad you brought up that game because we didn't really touch on that much so that that's good.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right, who are we firing?
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_00]: Again, many people, if you want to fire, sort again, what the heck fine, many other nominees, who do we get?
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm firing the contractless man, Tosh Lupoy, because if I'm cow, I'm finding whatever I have to do to figure out the way out of this thing, man, because they are a disaster.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_02]: Again, we talked about Wake Forest being the wagon of all wagons right now, but,
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it shouldn't look like this.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_02]: He started Jackson, Brasso, over Jaren Kiaves, Sagapola, TLA, and then said he was healthy and put him in late when they're down 40.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's just unbelievable.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that is the program I see the most, like unfathomable decisions out of on a week week basis.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_02]: And for that reason, I'm thinking, how do I get out of this mess because it doesn't feel good right now?
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_02]: Down in Berkeley.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_02]: I just, you know, you see like Ron Rivera with the headset on really like impacting a lot of these decisions like it does not feel like there's a lot of faith in that organization that touched the players and along this thing and if I was, if I was, if I was Cal, I would be reevaluating just by everything right now.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to disagree, but I mean, Mike Loxley, man, he had a 10 point half time lead over Rutgers and he ended up losing a Rutgers 37.30 at home.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, I mean, that was, you know, we were to think about the coaching carousel and we, we kind of wrote, this was kind of one of those, you know, coaching Leafs town.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I guess we'll be on monitoring here on Sunday as we go and really the next couple of weeks there in Maryland, because that was, that was like the, the locksley era, you know, a pit of me in terms of like losing a game that you just had to have, they, they just never played, you know, come through the potential and then like you have, you know, other, you know, talents like just a degree at Oregon State going off again this, this, this week, you know, who was from the D of the area, like, you know, like I think it was just a kind of everything added up there for my clocks, so I will go with him.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_00]: He gets to keep that one bragging point alive, Kevin.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's he think did have the lead.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like to say, we lead in a lot of games.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_00]: Don't lead at the end, but they do.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's 11, 11 AM, Sunday, Eastern time.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's still employed.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see how long that lasts, but it can't last too much longer.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to fire Kenny Dillingham.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I like, and I still think he has a bright future ahead of him this year's team.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_00]: I really fire the defense coordinator, Brian Ward, that their defense is a horrible.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_00]: to give up 48 to Texas A&M, 55 to Baylor, and then 53 to Texas Tech, their wins are against Morgan State, Hawaii, and in London against Kansas, so they are winless against power conference opponents in the United States.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not great, not great there.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_00]: All of the sizzle from 2024, when they made the playoff and nearly beat Texas in the playoff,
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_00]: is gone and they've got to relocate it.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't seem like a well-balanced program at this point.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I've given up on dilling him the sun devil's, but right now it's not good.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_00]: All right, lots for everybody to digest.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_00]: We'd love to hear your opinions on it.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_00]: Leave us a comment on the YouTube comment section or anywhere else.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening and if we will be back next week,
