- 0:01With all the complexities surrounding the reactions.
- 0:04We have two Impressions and pressures, we receive from the
- 0:08world. It is important to both
- 0:10understand the seed causes of our reactions and find a way to
- 0:16systematically gain control over these reactions.
- 0:20One of the techniques recommended by SRI aurobindo is
- 0:24to develop the standpoint of the witness, observing the nature.
- 0:29The witness can then work to view what takes place in the
- 0:33surface nature, as if it is happening outside oneself.
- 0:38This helps to obtain objectivity and thereby insight into what is
- 0:45taking place in the nature as well as makes it easier to
- 0:50separate oneself from the action in a way that can eventually
- 0:53bring about peace. This does not happen overnight
- 0:59and we can see various stages in the progression, which we
- 1:03aurobindo proceeds to outline. SRI aurobindo writes, quote
- 1:09quietness, is when the mind or vital is not troubled Restless
- 1:14drawn about or crowded with thoughts and feelings.
- 1:18Especially when either attached and looks at these.
- 1:22As a surface Movement, we say that the Mind were vital is
- 1:26quiet. Calmness is a more positive
- 1:30condition. Not merely an absence of
- 1:33restlessness overactivity or trouble.
- 1:38When there is a clear or great or strong Tranquility, which
- 1:42nothing troubles or can trouble, then we say that calm is
- 1:47established. It is quite usual to feel and
- 1:51establish peace in the inner being even if there is
- 1:55disturbance on the surface. In fact, that is the usual
- 2:00condition of the yogi before. He has attained the absolute
