- 0:50God, help us to get out of our own way.
- 0:54Lord, help us to take up our cross today.
- 0:57God, I pray in the name of Jesus, you help us to lock eyes
- 1:01with you and to love you more. Lord, I pray that you'll
- 1:04continue to invite us into heavenly places, God, and give
- 1:09us dominion over this land. Father, I pray in the name of
- 1:13Jesus that we will not be cowards and we will not shrink
- 1:17back. God, in fear and anxiety, I pray
- 1:21against any of the gripping spirits, God, who try to choke
- 1:26out all of the fruitfulness in our lives.
- 1:29Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will make us more
- 1:32than conquerors for today. Make us the peacemakers for our
- 1:37neighborhoods and for our communities and for our
- 1:40families, God and workplaces. God, I pray that everywhere that
- 1:44we go today will be holy ground. Father, because you go with us,
- 1:49You are a rear guard and our front guard and our side guard.
- 1:53And so God, we lock eyes with you.
- 1:57Lord, we take up the whole counsel of Your word from
- 2:02Genesis to Revelation. God, we thank You that you have
- 2:07given us the full authority, the complete Word, God, and we know
- 2:12that it is profitable. We know that it is our lifeline.
- 2:17So God, help us, help us to teach your word, help us, Lord,
- 2:23to spread the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ everywhere
- 2:29that we go. God, I pray that you'll receive
- 2:33our prayers like incense and as we go.
- 2:36God, I pray that you will perfume the air with your
- 2:40goodness and grace. Your mercies are new.
- 2:44And so God, we get out of our own way.
- 2:46We love you. Lord Jesus, I decrease as you
- 2:49increase. Holy Spirit, give us discernment
- 2:52today. Holy Spirit, give us our
- 2:56marching orders and help us to know what to do and when to do
- 3:00it and how to do it. Today, nudge us, I pray that we
- 3:04will not see our consciences today I pray that we will hear
- 3:08that still small voice and we will obey that still small
- 3:12voice. And God, it's all about you,
- 3:16Lord, it's not about us, it's about you, King Jesus, Holy
- 3:22Spirit, fill us, and it's in Jesus Christ, holy and precious
- 3:26name that I pray. Amen.
- 3:31Well, let's start in verse one. And Jesus entered and passed
- 3:36through Jericho. Jericho's not too far from
- 3:39Jerusalem, and he's just about at the brink of the gates to
- 3:46Jerusalem, the city of peace. And he's about to enter in on
- 3:50this Palm Sunday that's coming up, this triumphant entry.
- 3:55And all the people were to receive him as a political
- 4:00savior, not as the savior of the world.
- 4:05Friends, all of the people there in Jerusalem were hoping that he
- 4:10was going to overthrow the Roman government.
- 4:14Let's see what verse 2 has to say.
- 4:16And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the
- 4:20chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
- 4:24So the Bible doesn't leave out very much details.
- 4:28They tell us that Zacchaeus, which his name means the pure
- 4:32one, They tell us that Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector, so he
- 4:38would have been over some of the other ones.
- 4:40And they made their wealth by exacting more usury than what
- 4:47was expected by the Romans. So if you were to owe $10, they
- 4:54tell you that you owed 11 and they'd keep the buck.
- 4:58So here you can see how these chief tax collectors were hated
- 5:03by their own people. They were traitors, friends.
- 5:07And these people would have hated this little man Zacchaeus.
- 5:12Let's see what the Bible has to say about him other than he was
- 5:16rich and the chief among the publicans. 3 And he sought to
- 5:22see Jesus, who he was and could not for the press because he was
- 5:28little of stature. So here we know that he's not
- 5:33only a chief tax collector. We know that he was not only
- 5:37rich, but we know that he was trying to see Jesus.
- 5:40And we know that there was a lot of people pressing along trying
- 5:46to see Jesus. And we know that Zacchaeus was
- 5:50short in stature, for and he ran before and climbed up into a
- 5:57Sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.
- 6:02So these crowds, almost like a parade, they see Jesus coming,
- 6:07and they throng him about. And here little Zacchaeus, this
- 6:12rich man who was short, climbed a Sycamore tree like a little
- 6:17child to see Jesus. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he
- 6:24looked up and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste,
- 6:31come down for today I must abide at your house.
- 6:36Jesus already knew. Jesus already knew all of these
- 6:39scriptures that we read, He was living them out.
- 6:43But he didn't even have to try. They just came about because
- 6:47they had already been written before Jesus even showed up on
- 6:52the scene. Jesus knew the scriptures and he
- 6:56lived his life and they were fulfilled as He went about.
- 7:00He did not have to try to manifest any kind of
- 7:05destination. Jesus is the Word of God and the
- 7:10word of God pointed us to him and they it points to Him today.
- 7:15And Jesus as he went about he knew that these words were
- 7:20pinned and he knew that he must be a guest in his house.
- 7:26How amazing is this word of God that we hold in our hands.
- 7:29It's alive and active and sharper than any 2 edged sword
- 7:33friends and it is discerning you as you are reading it.
- 7:37Wow, I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came
- 7:46down and received him joyfully. That is our appropriate response
- 7:50when the Lord cries out to us and says, I want to be in your
- 7:54house. I want to be preeminent, I want
- 7:57to be in the rafters. I want to be the waves of praise
- 8:02that wave through your house. I want to be the center of it
- 8:07all. I want to be at the center of
- 8:09every decision that you're going to make of where your kids are
- 8:12going to go to school, what kind of curriculum you're going to
- 8:15teach. I want to be at the center of it
- 8:17all whenever you are deciding on what kind of mortgage you're
- 8:21going to carry. I want to be at the center of it
- 8:23all about if you're going to buy the new car or keep fixing the
- 8:26old one up. I want to be at the center of it
- 8:29all whenever you're looking for a new job.
- 8:31I want to be at the center of it all whenever you're deciding
- 8:34which banks or vacations you want to partake in.
- 8:38I want to be at the center of it all whenever you're deciding
- 8:41what meals you're going to make. And you might think to yourself
- 8:45that Jesus doesn't care about those things.
- 8:49But by and large, by and by 100,000%, He cares about the
- 8:57details. He cares about the nuances, He
- 9:01cares about it all. Friends.
- 9:03There's no prayer that is too small for him.
- 9:07He wants and desires to be part of your entire life. 24/7, 365
- 9:14Nothing held back, nothing compartmentalized.
- 9:17There's not one single thing that he does not care about.
- 9:22And our appropriate response when he cries out to us is to
- 9:27come down and invite him in. Come down from that high place
- 9:34that you set yourself on. Come down from that lofty,
- 9:39prideful place, and allow King Jesus in. 7 And when they saw
- 9:48it, they all murmured, saying that he was gone to be a guest
- 9:52with a man that is a Sinner. Not only is he a Sinner, but he
- 9:56is a chief Sinner. They hated this man because he
- 10:01was a traitor to the Jewish nation.
- 10:05And here we can see that Jesus is a friend of sinners. 8
- 10:10Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord.
- 10:12Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if
- 10:16I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I
- 10:20restore him fourfold. So we know that Zacchaeus here,
- 10:25he feels deeply the remorse of a sin.
- 10:32And you can't be in the same room with Jesus and not feel the
- 10:37conviction. Friends, it's not condemnation.
- 10:41Condemnation does not come from God, but the Holy Spirit is good
- 10:45at convicting us of the things that are holding us back from
- 10:49the right relationship with Jesus Christ that He desires.
- 10:54He He loves you so much that he does not leave you in that sin,
- 10:59friends. And that is what is happening in
- 11:01this moment. Whenever Zacchaeus is in the
- 11:04presence of Jesus Christ, his conscience is getting the best
- 11:09of them. And here he's going out of his
- 11:13way. Before Jesus even says a word to
- 11:16correct him, he already knows what he has done.
- 11:19And isn't that true for us? And that is the reason that we
- 11:22don't read the Bible. That is the reason that we don't
- 11:25attend church, That is the reason that we don't have a
- 11:28vibrant prayer life, Friends, is because we know that when we're
- 11:33in the vicinity of Jesus Christ, He's going to convict us of the
- 11:37things that are holding us back from experiencing the fullness
- 11:41that He has for us, friends. And we would do so well to allow
- 11:46the Holy Spirit to have His will and to have His way in our lives
- 11:49and to put His finger on the things that are holding us back
- 11:53from the fullness of experiencing Jesus Christ in the
- 11:57vibrant, abundant life that He promised us, friends.
- 12:01And He loves us so much that He tells us to go and sin no more
- 12:05unless something worse comes upon you.
- 12:07And so many of us, we forsake the ministry of prayer.
- 12:11We forsake the reading of the Word of God.
- 12:14We forsake the assembling. Why?
- 12:17Because we do not want the conviction that comes along with
- 12:21that. Friends, we don't want to have
- 12:22to listen to that conscience bearing witness against us,
- 12:26telling us that there are things in our lives that don't add up.
- 12:30There are things in our lives that are going to destroy us.
- 12:33Friends, There are things in our lives that if we keep going down
- 12:37that pathway, then they are going to result in moral
- 12:43failure. But we don't want to have to
- 12:45listen to that, friends. We just want to go our own way
- 12:48and we want to sprinkle Jesus in and we need just enough of Jesus
- 12:52not to go to hell. And you can see it, friends, you
- 12:56can see that this is the appropriate response, is that as
- 13:01the Holy Spirit stirs those things inside of us, we
- 13:05immediately immediate obedience, friends, because delayed
- 13:10obedience is disobedience. And so therefore we immediately
- 13:15restore back the things that we have done.
- 13:19We immediately call that family member, call that neighbor, call
- 13:24that person and apologize and ask for forgiveness.
- 13:27Friends, we immediately stop stealing.
- 13:32We immediately stop lying. We immediately stop watching all
- 13:37of the filth that we see on our phones.
- 13:41We immediately turn the secular music off.
- 13:45We immediately respond by not taking people's wages from them.
- 13:53We immediately respond in a way that is appropriate and you can
- 13:59see here that half of Zacchaeus goods were good enough.
- 14:03Whereas the rich young ruler, he said, give all of it away.
- 14:08And Jesus deals with us specifically and individually,
- 14:13and it's not a one-size-fits-all.
- 14:15And he usually will start with the most obvious thing.
- 14:20And then as we go on with Jesus, he starts working on the deeper
- 14:25issues, on the nuances that no one is even aware of, that only
- 14:29you harbor and you don't even talk about.
- 14:32And Jesus will deal with those things as time goes on.
- 14:35And that is the idea of sanctification, Friends. 9 And
- 14:43Jesus said unto him, This day salvation has come to this
- 14:47house. For as much as he also is a son
- 14:50of Abraham. So I'm sure the Jews of that
- 14:53time would have not wanted to claim Zacchaeus because of his
- 15:01becoming a chief tax collector. But here not only did Jesus
- 15:06Christ himself say that salvation had come to Zacchaeus,
- 15:10but he also said that he was a son of Abraham.
- 15:13He restored him. And that's what God does for us
- 15:16when we come to him. He restores us back to our
- 15:20sonship. He restores us back to our
- 15:23rightful place as children of the Most High God. 10 For the
- 15:27Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
- 15:31He knows who belongs to Him. He's out, He's roving, His eyes
- 15:37are roving to and fro, and he's looking for the ones who belong
- 15:41to Him. And he's bringing them back to
- 15:44repentance. He's bringing them back to their
- 15:48rightful relationship with Him. 11 And as they heard these
- 15:53things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was near
- 15:57Jerusalem and because they thought that the Kingdom of God
- 16:01should immediately appear. So here we can see that they
- 16:05were expecting a political savior.
- 16:08They were thinking that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem to
- 16:13drive out the Romans and to make Israel and to make Jerusalem its
- 16:21own sovereign place, like David did when he went in and drove
- 16:26out all the kingdoms and established the city of David
- 16:31here. They thought that this son of
- 16:33David was coming to do the same, and they were sorely displeased
- 16:40when they realized that he was going to be arrested and was
- 16:45going to die at the hands of the Gentiles.
- 16:48But he told them that it was going to be so, and they missed
- 16:51it. 12 And he said, therefore a certain nobleman went into a far
- 16:57country to receive for himself a Kingdom and to return.
- 17:02So here he's giving them the parable of how we are to work
- 17:09while he is away. Here Jesus came and he is giving
- 17:13us our ministries, and he's telling us how we should work
- 17:18while he's away. It's not just the rest that he's
- 17:21after, but he's developing us, friends.
- 17:24He's consecrating us to himself. He is sanctifying us as we go
- 17:31along, and he uses all different kinds of methods, friends.
- 17:36And here he's going to show us that he is the one who came, and
- 17:41he is the one who left and entrusted this to US.
- 17:45Thirteen. And he called his 10 servants
- 17:47and delivered them 10 lbs and said unto them, Occupy until I
- 17:51come. So He gave all of us our little
- 17:55lifetime to steward well. And He gives us all the little
- 17:58resources and the talents and the treasures that we have, and
- 18:02He gives us the time that we have, and He wants us to steward
- 18:05it well. 14 But his citizens hated him and sent a message
- 18:11after him saying, we will not have this man to reign over us.
- 18:16So the servants in this parable are the Christians, friends, and
- 18:22then all of the citizens here in this parable.
- 18:29This is the outside world who would not receive Jesus Christ,
- 18:34and they hate him, and they say we will not have him reign over
- 18:38us. They try to throw off the
- 18:40shackles and psalms too. You'll see that the nation's
- 18:44rage, and they want to throw off the authority of God, and they
- 18:48hate God. 15 And it came to pass that when he was returned,
- 18:54having received the Kingdom, then he commanded these servants
- 18:58to be called to him to whom he had given the money, that he
- 19:02might know how much every man had gained by his trading.
- 19:06So here you can see that Jesus expects for us to steward all
- 19:11the blessings that we have. Well, friends, in this little
- 19:15lifetime that we have, and whenever he comes back in his
- 19:18second advent, he calls us to himself, and he says, let's see
- 19:23how he did. 16 Then came the first thing, Lord, your pound
- 19:28has gained 10 lbs. 17 And he said unto him, Well, you good
- 19:35servant, because you have been faithful, and very little have
- 19:40authority over 10 cities. We will rule and reign with
- 19:43Jesus Christ in the Millennium, friends, and this is what he's
- 19:47talking about here. 18 And the second came saying, Lord, your
- 19:53pound has gained 5 lbs. And he said likewise to him, be
- 19:56you over 5 cities. So here it's very simple stuff
- 20:01here as he comes back to receive his Kingdom, this millennial
- 20:08reign, this thousand year reign of Christ that is mentioned in
- 20:12Revelation here, we would do well to know that how we live
- 20:16our lives now is going to have a cause and effect over our
- 20:27eternity. Right now counts forever, and we
- 20:32would do well to make sure that we are stewarding this time the
- 20:36best that we can, being completely sold out to the King
- 20:40of Kings and the Lord of Lords, so that when he comes back, you
- 20:44will hear well done, good and faithful servant.
- 20:48You will not fall into this third category.
- 20:50And Jesus is so kind as to show us beforehand what happens.
- 20:55And we have to make the decision of what kind of stewards we're
- 20:59going to be, what kind of servants are we going to be?
- 21:03Because the reward for a job well done is more work, friends,
- 21:09He gives us more to steward and he tells us if we're faithful
- 21:14with little, then we'll be faithful with much.
- 21:17Let's see how this third servant did 20 And another came saying,
- 21:23Lord, behold, here's your pound, which I've kept, I've laid up in
- 21:29a napkin. So here this servant thought he
- 21:32was clever. Instead of going and taking his
- 21:35master's money and squandering it, he just hid it away, so that
- 21:41when the master came back he'd still have it.
- 21:44And he thought he did something well. 21 For I feared you,
- 21:50because you are an austere man, and you take up that you have
- 21:55not laid down, and you reap that which you have not sown. 22 And
- 22:01he said unto him, Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you
- 22:06wicked servant, You knew that I was an austere man, taking up
- 22:13which I have not laid down, and reaping which I have not sown.
- 22:1923 Therefore, then, why did you not give the money to the bank?
- 22:27And at my coming I might have required my own with interest.
- 22:33So here you can see that Jesus expects for us to take this
- 22:37little lifetime and all the resources that he gives to us,
- 22:41the little that he gives to us, and he wants us to invest it,
- 22:46friends. Invest in people.
- 22:49Invest your time in loving your neighbor as yourself.
- 22:53Invest it, friends. And yes, we should be good
- 22:57stewards with the money that God has given us.
- 23:00And yes, we need to make sure that we are living lives that
- 23:04point people to the Lord. But by and large, the greatest
- 23:11investment that God has given you are the years on this earth
- 23:16that we have to serve Him. And whatever we do with this
- 23:19little bit of time that we have is going to affect our eternity.
- 23:25And are you willing to gamble with that, friends?
- 23:29Are you willing to live however you want to live now and then
- 23:34gamble with eternity? I pray not. 24 And he said unto
- 23:42them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to
- 23:46him that has 10 lbs. So here he's going to explain
- 23:50something that we all need to understand. 25 And they said
- 23:58unto him, Lord, he has 10 lbs. So they're saying, You're going
- 24:02to give the little bit that this man has to the man that has the
- 24:09most. 26 For I say unto you, that unto everyone who which has
- 24:19shall be given, and from him that has, not, even that he has,
- 24:25shall be taken away from him. So this is a biblical principle
- 24:29that we all need to understand. For those who cultivate a
- 24:33relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and are completely sold
- 24:37out to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and they're not
- 24:40compartmentalized and every moment of every day is sold out
- 24:44to him, then they will be compounded exponentially as
- 24:49their life goes on. He reveals more and more and
- 24:53more facets of himself and more and more of the tapestry of
- 24:58himself. But for those who think that
- 25:00they have it all figured out and they have just enough of God to
- 25:04get out of hell, even the little bit of knowledge of the Lord
- 25:08Jesus Christ is taken from them. And they live in perpetual
- 25:12frustration because they're making it all about self and
- 25:16vanity and money. They're making it all about
- 25:18position and lording over people and they live within the own
- 25:24confines of their mind with the critical spirit and they live in
- 25:37a state of frustration because the Word of God is not
- 25:43profitable are useful to them because it convicts them when
- 25:48they try to read it. And that's what he mentions here
- 25:51is a little bit that they have that little bit of security that
- 25:58they know the Bible, they know God, they go to church.
- 26:03Even the peace within, the moment, within them own selves
- 26:08will be taken from them, and that is what is referenced in
- 26:13this parable. 27 But those my enemies which would not, that I
- 26:23should reign over them, bring here and slay them before me,
- 26:27that is Armageddon, friends. This is right before the
- 26:32thousand year reign of Christ. This is when he gathers and
- 26:36amasses all the evil in the world to 1 literal geographical
- 26:43place on planet Earth, Mon ghetto.
- 26:46And this is where he will slay them with the breath of his
- 26:50mouth, with the two edged sword, eyes like fire and hair like
- 26:55wool. 28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before ascending
- 27:01up to Jerusalem, He set his face like a Flint.
- 27:05We know that, friends, that there was nothing.
- 27:08He was unstoppable. He knew what was awaiting him,
- 27:12and it was counted as joy, and it pleased the Lord to crush
- 27:16him. 29 And it came to pass when he was near Bethpage and
- 27:22Bethany, at the mount called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of
- 27:26his disciples. We know that when Jesus comes
- 27:29back he's going to stand on this mount of Olives, he's going to
- 27:33enter in through the Eastgate friends 30 saying Go you into
- 27:39the village over against you, in the which you are entering, you
- 27:43shall find a cult tide whereon no man has ever sat loose him
- 27:50and bring him here. 31 And if any man asks you, why do you
- 27:54loose him, you will say unto him, Because the Lord has need
- 27:58of him. That's all we have to do is just
- 28:02walk out into the dominion that he promised us, and the whole
- 28:05world belongs to him. Every tree, every valley, every
- 28:13wave, all the stars, all of creation is his friends.
- 28:20It's easy for him. 32 And they, and they that were sent went
- 28:25their way, and found even as he had said unto them, 33 And as
- 28:29they were losing the colt, the owners of it said unto them, Why
- 28:33do you lose the colt? 34 And they said, The Lord has
- 28:36need of him. It's all they had to do.
- 28:39They all they had to do is let them know Jesus of Nazareth.
- 28:43The branch requires this beast, and they let him go. 35 And they
- 28:55brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments upon the
- 28:59colt, and they set Jesus on it. Imagine that.
- 29:05Imagine how their coats, which were costly, were thrown out by
- 29:10the wayside and trampled upon by this young little donkey.
- 29:17Look at the Lord Jesus riding upon it as a peaceful Prince, as
- 29:25a peaceful king, as the Prince of peace.
- 29:31Look at how he rides in friends, as the King of Kings and the
- 29:35Lord of Lords. Look how he rides in, and he
- 29:38brings salvation with him. 36 And as he went, they spread
- 29:46their clothes in the way. 37 And when he was come near, even now,
- 29:51at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of
- 29:55the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice
- 29:59for all the mighty works that they had seen.
- 30:02They're crying out Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest glory be
- 30:09to Jesus Christ who brought about our salvation and look at
- 30:14how they're remembering all the things that they've seen him do
- 30:18bringing Lazarus back from the dead walking on the water.
- 30:23They're seeing all the dead rise.
- 30:26They're seeing the demons that were driven out.
- 30:29They're seeing all the sick of the palsy healed.
- 30:32They're seeing the crippled walk.
- 30:34They're seeing the blind see they're seeing the deaf receive
- 30:38their hearing. They're seeing the mute speak.
- 30:43They know the power that this man has.
- 30:47They're crying out. They know that he has the
- 30:51capability of overthrowing the Roman government.
- 30:54They are recounting back to the time that he fed thousands upon
- 31:00thousands upon thousands upon thousands with just meager
- 31:04morsels. There's nothing but he cannot
- 31:08do. And it's no different today,
- 31:10friends. God can do anything.
- 31:13He could cause 8 billion souls today to be completely sold out
- 31:18to Him. Worldwide revival, friends, we
- 31:23should pray from the King to the cattle that every man, woman and
- 31:27child on planet earth comes to know Him.
- 31:33They have looked back, and they have seen what the Lord has
- 31:37done, 38 saying, Blessed be the king that comes in the name of
- 31:43the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And
- 31:48some of the Pharisees from among the multitudes said unto him,
- 31:52Master, rebuke your disciples. So here they still thought of
- 31:56him as a rabbi. They still thought of him as
- 31:59just the teacher. They had not yet seen him as the
- 32:03Son of God, and they're telling him that he does not need this
- 32:11kind of praise, that he is not worthy of the kind of praise
- 32:16that they are showering upon him.
- 32:20Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord.
- 32:23Peace in heaven, glory in the highest.
- 32:26Glory in the highest for this rogue St. preacher, this
- 32:33unlearned rabbi. And they're saying, quiet them
- 32:40down, and what does Jesus say? And he answered and said unto
- 32:45them, I tell you that if these should hold their peace, the
- 32:49stones would immediately cry out.
- 32:52All of Creation groans and awaits the day that he is going
- 32:57to make all things new. Heaven and earth shall pass
- 33:02away. But not one of these words, not
- 33:04one jot, not one title. Friends, we know that the second
- 33:08destruction is by fire, and we know that he's going to make all
- 33:12things new, friends. And we know that Creation is
- 33:16groaning for that moment. They were subjected to the curse
- 33:21back in the garden, and they are awaiting the time Creation
- 33:24awaits, the time whenever they will be restored back to their
- 33:30original state in the garden. Friends. 41 And when he was come
- 33:37near, and beheld the city and wept over it.
- 33:40So here Jesus is weeping. This is the weeping God.
- 33:46He cries, Friends, for all the times that we turn our backs on
- 33:53Him and we don't walk in the identity that He has for us.
- 33:57He cries whenever someone is lost in their sin.
- 34:03He cries whenever we do not understand how good and gracious
- 34:10He is and how powerful He is. Friends and he's crying over
- 34:15this city who refused him. What did he say?
- 34:1842 saying if you had known even you at least in your day, the
- 34:25things which belong unto your peace, but now they are hid from
- 34:31your eyes. So Jerusalem means the city of
- 34:34peace. And he's going to prophecy AD 70
- 34:37right here where the famine inside of the walls, because
- 34:42they were being sieged by the Romans.
- 34:46The famine that was inside of the walls was so great that they
- 34:51could not even bury their dead. And they threw them over the
- 34:53walls, friends, and heaped them up.
- 34:57And it was such a tragedy. And here Jesus knows the
- 35:01beginning from the end and the end from the beginning.
- 35:03And he knows that they had a chance to receive him.
- 35:07And isn't this such a paradox? Isn't this such an oxymoronic
- 35:13thought that they could have received him and received the
- 35:17peace that their whole city, what their city's name means,
- 35:22but they refused him, and it must happen this way.
- 35:26It's kind of like Judas. There could have been salvation
- 35:29for him, but He refused it, and He said it would be better that
- 35:35he was never born. So here you can see how the Lord
- 35:38works. It's not always in the ways that
- 35:41we want them to work. He could cause all of the
- 35:44people, all the inhabitants of the earth right this very minute
- 35:48to give their lives over to Him, but He doesn't.
- 35:51And why? He could have caused the tree in
- 35:56the garden not to be there, the tree of forbidden fruits, and
- 36:00not be there. But why did He not?
- 36:03He could have caused the garden to not have the serpent in it,
- 36:06but why did he not? And we would do well to
- 36:10understand that it is all for the glory of Him.
- 36:16His ways are not our ways, friends.
- 36:18The rocks will cry out if we do not.
- 36:23And He's weeping over the city. 43 For the day shall come upon
- 36:28you that your enemy shall cast a trench about you, encompass you
- 36:33round, and keep you in on every side, 44 and shall lay you even
- 36:39with the ground, and your children within you.
- 36:42And they shall not leave you one stone upon another, because you
- 36:47knew not the time of your visitation.
- 36:50The Son of God is in their midst, and they refused him, and
- 36:53they're going to murder their Messiah.
- 36:56And he's saying, because they refused him, God's going to
- 37:02break down their temple that they find so much security in
- 37:07and disperse them worldwide. 45 And he went into the temple, and
- 37:12began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought.
- 37:21So here, this is when he went in and turned over the tables and
- 37:25drove out the money changers. And you can see here that they
- 37:29were extorting all of the people coming in and that God's plan
- 37:36for that temple was the outer court would be for prayer of the
- 37:40nations to come. And we'll see it in the
- 37:42Millennium, the thousand year reign of Christ, that he's going
- 37:45to have the temple that he desired, friends.
- 37:50And here it was supposed to be a place of prayer, but they had
- 37:54made it into a den of thieves, 46 saying unto them, It is
- 38:00written, My house is the House of prayer, but you have made it
- 38:03the den of thieves. 47 And he taught daily in the temple, but
- 38:08the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the
- 38:11people sought to destroy him. Look at Jesus, and we can see
- 38:15from the other gospels, we can see a lot of the teachings that
- 38:18are within the temple at this time.
- 38:21But Jesus sitting there teaching the people after he's driven out
- 38:27all of the money changers, all those that were selling the
- 38:33sacrifices, and they were inflating the prices outside of
- 38:39that place, it would not have cost very much, but inside of
- 38:43that place they had raised the prices to an astronomical
- 38:49amount. And Jesus was sore displeased at
- 38:52their practices. And we would do well today to
- 38:55make sure that our places of worship are for that.
- 38:59They are for prayer and they are for worship and for the teaching
- 39:03of God's Word. And they are not a marketplace,
- 39:06friends. And far be it from us to bring
- 39:10idols into the place of worship. 48 and could not find what they
- 39:18might do for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
- 39:22Of course they were. He was able to do the
- 39:27miraculous. They were intrigued by this man,
- 39:32but they were not lovers of him. They only wanted just enough of
- 39:36Him to receive their healings, but they did not come back and
- 39:40give Him the praise. Just know friends, that whether
- 39:45the healing comes or not, we must give Him His praise.
- 39:48He is due. He is worthy of all of our
- 39:52praise, all of our attention, all of our affection, friends.
- 39:56Give it to them today. Hope you've been blessed by this
- 40:02chapter. I know I sure have.
- 40:10I'm praying for every single one of you and I love you.
- 40:16So does God. Let's stay prayed up today,
- 40:20friends. Do not forsake the ministry of
- 40:23prayer. Let's get in the word today and
- 40:26be sold out to him. Sold out to the King of Kings
- 40:31and the Lord of Lords. Sold out to him.
- 40:35Everything laid bare before him. Give him access to everything.
- 40:42Let's love our neighbors as ourselves.
- 40:47We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 40:49God bless you.
