[SPEAKER_00]: Hey you guys, so today I'm sitting here with a whole heap of clothes beside me and if you're watching on YouTube then I am going to hold up a few things and show you a few items of clothing that we love as I walk you through how we do our minimal capsule wardroves for our children every year.
0:15
[SPEAKER_00]: It is, well, it's not fall yet, but we're heading into the fall and winter season.
0:20
[SPEAKER_00]: This is our longest season here in North Idaho.
0:22
[SPEAKER_00]: It's really about nine months of the year.
0:24
[SPEAKER_00]: And so when I purchase clothes for this season, I do it very intentionally, and I want to keep it budget friendly.
0:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I also want to make sure I'm not overwhelmed with clothing, and make sure I'm not just moving clothing from heap to heap to heap.
0:37
[SPEAKER_00]: as I observed a mother's growing up and even now when I was a young mother and then even now I think a lot of mothers time can be spent in moving clothes from heap to heap whether that's from the laundry bin to the clean clothes bin or maybe it goes to the couch and the table on the bed
0:54
[SPEAKER_00]: between those times or it goes in the garage in a storage bin and then you pull it out and it's like oh it's the wrong size for the wrong season or the wrong gender for the wrong season and I knew that I didn't want to manage clothing like that growing up we had so much clothing storage.
1:15
[SPEAKER_00]: It was overwhelming, it was like a yard sale every time we had to go through it and very often we still ended up purchasing pieces.
1:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So I knew that that's not what I wanted for our own home or my own home and I'm going to walk you through today how we keep our clothes from overwhelming us.
1:31
[SPEAKER_00]: This is in the kids' clothes department and let's see what else am I going to walk you through.
1:36
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of like losing my train of thought because a life is not here with me today.
1:40
[SPEAKER_00]: This is my first solo podcast and I can't say that.
1:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm loving it, I already miss him, but he thought that this would be a good show until for for me to just do.
1:54
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna bust out for you guys.
1:56
[SPEAKER_00]: If you guys are curious on how these clothes look on, how we pair the clothes, some of the kids really wanted to show off their clothes.
2:05
[SPEAKER_00]: They asked, hey can we be in the clothing video?
2:07
[SPEAKER_00]: They're very excited about some of their new coats they
2:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, you know what, we aren't going to do that for the podcast, A, you know, half of you guys are on audio, actually more than half of you guys, probably like 80% of you listen on audio.
2:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And then for those of you who are on YouTube, we took the kids off for reasons.
2:28
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're in a ton of videos.
2:30
[SPEAKER_00]: They show up here and they're in like music videos and stuff.
2:33
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's it.
2:34
[SPEAKER_00]: I did make a 14-piece capsule girl's wardrobe video with Lucy, and that's really fun, that's on Substack, and that's also in the Get It All Done Club, and the boys are asking me to make one too.
2:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So I might do that, and if so, it'll go up on Substack, and the Get It All Done Club.
2:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we jump in,
2:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I do have to let you know some exciting news and that is the get it all done.
2:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Club is back open.
2:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I closed it in January.
2:59
[SPEAKER_00]: So it hasn't been open for a long time.
3:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I just felt like this was a year.
3:03
[SPEAKER_00]: We were writing a book during that time.
3:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And also, I was so nauseous with the first trimester of our baby.
3:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And just decided this was a year that we couldn't keep up on sales and new customers and stuff like that.
3:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So we shed it down in January.
3:18
[SPEAKER_00]: But we are reopening it for a brief period of time here.
3:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So we've been getting a lot of questions in the Q&A box.
3:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, when's the get it all done club opening?
3:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to open again?
3:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know if it was going to open again to be honest.
3:31
[SPEAKER_00]: We thought about moving away from it entirely, but your request had been so great.
3:35
[SPEAKER_00]: I still love all the incredible women in the community that it is back open.
3:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So I will link that down below.
3:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I will also link a webinar down below that you guys can watch.
3:44
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little old and that I have four kids at the time.
3:48
[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say it's a little more, there's a few like tasteless moments.
3:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I would go back and change that webinar, but I do think that the information in it is very powerful.
3:58
[SPEAKER_00]: It's no longer linked to an email funnel or anything like that, so there won't be any follow-up emails.
4:03
[SPEAKER_00]: You can watch the webinar and you can purchase if you're interested.
4:07
[SPEAKER_00]: It's only going to be open for a brief period of time here.
4:10
[SPEAKER_00]: This fall to help you get organized and go from drowning to thriving in motherhood.
4:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And I share a ton of videos.
4:17
[SPEAKER_00]: and they're on how to do these kinds of things, how to make your home peaceful, manageable, and simplified.
4:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And some of them are me just sitting down talking to you and some of them are me actually walking you through it or showing how I do it with the kids.
4:31
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, you can have it over there and check that out if there's something there that you're interested in.
4:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so let's jump in.
4:38
[SPEAKER_00]: What are the first things that I look for when I'm going to purchase a wardrobe?
4:43
[SPEAKER_00]: The first thing is, I am looking for a wardrobe that is no more than a week's worth of clothing.
4:49
[SPEAKER_00]: So each one of our six children never is more than a week's worth of clothing.
4:54
[SPEAKER_00]: This boils down to about 14 items give or take an item or two.
5:00
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was surprised to find when I counted the kids' clothes that the boys and our daughter both did not have more than 14 items of clothing.
5:08
[SPEAKER_00]: This includes one jacket, one pair of nice shoes to wear for my daughter, that was six dresses, three shirts, two sweaters, which the extra sweater is a bonus.
5:23
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need two sweaters.
5:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's see, I wrote it down and a skirt.
5:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Now that might alternate on the year, maybe she'll have five dresses and a pair of leggings or one sweater and a pair of jeans, but really that is her core capsule wardrobe.
5:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I break it down in that sub-stack and get it all done in clip video of exactly how you could get so many outfits.
5:48
[SPEAKER_00]: out of that number of clothing items.
5:51
[SPEAKER_00]: The boys are the same way, so I do my boys close a little differently since we moved out of town because it is so dusty and dirty and muddy and we're just in the elements out here in the country.
6:04
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I've really created their style to reflect that.
6:08
[SPEAKER_00]: They have two nice outfits.
6:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So these two nice outfits boil down to two nice shirts and one nice pair of pants.
6:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And these clothes they cannot pull from.
6:20
[SPEAKER_00]: So they do not go in their regular laundry bins.
6:22
[SPEAKER_00]: These go in a separate closet.
6:24
[SPEAKER_00]: My cousin has the same thing.
6:26
[SPEAKER_00]: She started doing this after I shared it on YouTube years ago and calls it the fancy closet.
6:32
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just thought that was really cute.
6:34
[SPEAKER_00]: She has a lot of girls, she does that with her daughter's dresses.
6:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Lucy, I find isn't too hard on clothes, so I'm not that worried about her, but the boys, I really keep this closet separate.
6:44
[SPEAKER_00]: It actually is just in the hanging space in our laundry.
6:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I have a laundry video breaking down everything that we do in our laundry room in Substack and the get it all done club.
6:54
[SPEAKER_00]: But the hanging rack has the boys two nice shirts hanging there, and that's really what I purchase in the fall.
7:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Is there two nice sweaters.
7:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this, sometimes they still have a shirt or two from the year before.
7:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I buy their clothes a little bit big and like Wrangler for instance, doesn't wear out.
7:16
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I have a Wrangler shirt that they still have.
7:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I also have green sweaters that I bought for Christmas last year that still fit all of them but the infant.
7:27
[SPEAKER_00]: So we are going to roll those into this year.
7:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I probably could have just kept them wearing the exact same clothes, but something in me wanted to shake it up.
7:37
[SPEAKER_00]: But these clothes stay so nice.
7:39
[SPEAKER_00]: They stay for a really long period of time.
7:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So size up a little bit if you're going to do this method because they will stay nice for a while.
7:46
[SPEAKER_00]: and I hang up those two shirts, I hang up their pair of jeans, and this is how I know that if Elijah comes home spur the moment and it's like, hey guys, let's all go out for Frozen Yogurt because he's really fun like that.
7:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Then I immediately know what to put the boys in, and this is a huge help for Elijah too because he knows immediately where to go to get the kids close, like their town, clothes, or separate.
8:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's not
8:10
[SPEAKER_00]: and theory.
8:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Elijah knows this isn't perfect because sometimes I'll put the clothes in the wrong bin, but 99% of the time he goes to that rack and he can grab a set of shirts for the boys.
8:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey guys, throw this on and it really helps me when we're getting ready to run out the door and then there's always going to be a set of pants there as well.
8:30
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's nice about this is I'm not putting clothes on the kids before church and realizing, oh, one of these has a stain, we can't do that, I'm having to
8:39
[SPEAKER_00]: reinvent the wheel and all our kids match the boys match and so that's kind of annoying when you have a matching set and there's a stain on one It's like do I do we have to change everybody?
8:50
[SPEAKER_00]: So this really simplifies things just having two sets of shirts up there
8:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe three if you're rolling one over from the past season and it's the fancy closet or the town closet Where those nice clothes you know are always on hand.
9:05
[SPEAKER_00]: They're always washed.
9:06
[SPEAKER_00]: They're always clean They're always ready and so say friends are coming over last minute or again You're running late for church or whatever the case may be you go there and you know It's all washed and it's all ready
9:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, that's a big hack.
9:20
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's three items for the boys in that closet.
9:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Then they have about three to five shirts that they have in their bins.
9:32
[SPEAKER_00]: So going to their baskets that they pull from their like their.
9:38
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not laundry baskets, they're like straw baskets, but they are in my laundry room.
9:42
[SPEAKER_00]: That's where all the kids' storage is.
9:44
[SPEAKER_00]: So let me just give you an example real quick, I guess, of the boys' nice clothes that I got this year and give you a few options of ways to get these in a more budget friendly way.
9:58
[SPEAKER_00]: So this year, I got the boys, two sweaters.
10:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I really love sweaters on my boys.
10:04
[SPEAKER_00]: And so these are barbore sweaters.
10:07
[SPEAKER_00]: They are beautiful.
10:09
[SPEAKER_00]: They are 100% wool.
10:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And when I found this sweater, ooh.
10:14
[SPEAKER_00]: When I found this sweater online, I loved the pattern.
10:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I loved that it wasn't seasoned specific.
10:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I think often when you buy sweaters, it's like, they're all the pumpkins on them or Christmas stuff.
10:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just wanted it to be able to go from fall to winter to spring very seamlessly.
10:32
[SPEAKER_00]: So I fell in love with the sweater.
10:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, it was $160, which seemed like a steal after looking at Ralph Lauren.
10:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I like to go to more fancy brands first to get an idea of what I'm looking for and then go kind of find a knock-off version.
10:51
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, I found these sweaters on these hunter-jumper websites like course-jumping a question in websites.
10:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And I loved them, but I was like, I have five boys.
11:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't pay $160 for a sweater that they're going to grow out of.
11:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So I went on eBay and I typed in the exact description that was on the website.
11:13
[SPEAKER_00]: And I found sweaters for all five of the boys.
11:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Here they are.
11:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them still have tags on.
11:20
[SPEAKER_00]: as you can see here, some of them do not, some of them are a little more washed and worn, but they're still, they're such high quality, they're not going to go bad, and they're just, again, incredible.
11:34
[SPEAKER_00]: So,
11:35
[SPEAKER_00]: That is a hack I have for you.
11:37
[SPEAKER_00]: This year I decided to do all natural fibers for the children, and so that made, sometimes I like to make it fun for myself.
11:44
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you're only buying two outfits for your boys, it's like you want to make the treasure hunt fun and exciting, because you just aren't buying a ton of clothes.
11:52
[SPEAKER_00]: So I was super happy to find these sweaters and the other kind of like almost heirloom items, but some of them I got for $9, my eldest, I think I did pay $60 for, but overall I got all of them for under the price of one sweater.
12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So I felt really good about that.
12:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Something that's nice about keeping your clothes item inventory low, and
12:16
[SPEAKER_00]: is you it's very budget friendly and then you also get to pool resources if you want.
12:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously I could have gotten like very, very cheap sweaters.
12:25
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to be wool.
12:27
[SPEAKER_00]: but something that was fun for me was to kind of pull my resources and put it towards more of a splurge item versus just buying a ton of clothes that are super cheap.
12:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So you could do this it a thrift store.
12:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can go through and get one sweater for each of your boys that's three or four bucks and have
12:49
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, a super affordable wardrobe that way.
12:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Our first done his first wardrobe cost $20 from a thrift store, and that's what he wore until he was a year old.
12:58
[SPEAKER_00]: $20 worth of clothes.
13:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't have to have a lot of clothes, but then when you purchase fewer clothes, if your budget stays the same size and you aren't really trying to shrink that budget, then you can splurge on a few items that like really spark joy when you see your children in them.
13:14
[SPEAKER_00]: The other sweaters I got, which actually ended up being more of a total cost because I bought them new before I thought of the whole eBay thing, honestly, are these Quincy sweaters.
13:24
[SPEAKER_00]: So, they're 100% cotton, they're super soft and breathable, and they aren't as heavy or warm as the wool sweaters.
13:33
[SPEAKER_00]: My bet is the boys aren't going to wear those unless we're outside or going somewhere, but these they're going to wear a lot around the house.
13:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just got a nice neutral sweater, it goes with anything, and I got these from quince.
13:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the two new outfits that I purchased the boys.
13:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Other than that, I went with Wranglers, so they're nice pair of jeans or Wranglers,
13:58
[SPEAKER_00]: I go for the old school like blue jeans style.
14:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that they have other styles now, but I just love this makes me think of my grandpa.
14:08
[SPEAKER_00]: He's super classy, really good looking old man.
14:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And he just loved these blue jeans wranglers.
14:14
[SPEAKER_00]: So the bright blue ones, we save, and then once these get kind of dingy, and they start fading out,
14:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Then they go in the boy's baskets, I throw out a pair and the boy's baskets that have holes in the knees, and these turn into the nicer version of a plaging.
14:33
[SPEAKER_00]: So that would be the entirety of our boy's nice wardrobe.
14:38
[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing that they do have are nice coats, but we'll go into that in just a minute.
14:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So aside from that, they have three to five play shirts.
14:47
[SPEAKER_00]: They have two to three pairs of jeans that, again, move from the dress bin or the town closet into just the regular clothing.
14:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they'll have a pair of shorts.
15:01
[SPEAKER_00]: or a pair of sweats, depending on, you know, just something comfortable, some of them, just like to wear shorts in the evening and chill on those, some of them purse sweats and so they have those.
15:12
[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to pajamas, the tent, and when we were living in the tent, maybe fall in love with the long johns, they were so practical on the tent, because the kids would wear them to bed, wear it was cold and they're sleeping bags, and then they would wake up and put their car hearts right over their long johns.
15:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Lucy does have a pair of pajamas, but I do still have all our boys in long jumps.
15:37
[SPEAKER_00]: They still often sleep in boxers, honestly, but in the winter, they all wear these.
15:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So these are just from Amazon.
15:46
[SPEAKER_00]: super comfy old school and they love that.
15:50
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, these are even a little bit more practical for they don't have the buttons in the back or anything So these are a little bit more practical for boys because they're able to go to the bathroom in the middle of the of the night by just buttoning Unbuttoning.
16:02
[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry a couple of buttons here for Lucy.
16:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not as practical So yeah, that's we do for pajamas.
16:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a top and bottom set for each of our boys just
16:13
[SPEAKER_00]: the one size, the one piece keeps it simple and keeps it easy for me to be able to find and for them to be able to find as well.
16:23
[SPEAKER_00]: And that is the totality of my boys' clothes.
16:26
[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
16:27
[SPEAKER_00]: So you guys, what this does is it keeps laundry so simple.
16:31
[SPEAKER_00]: It also is really good accountability.
16:34
[SPEAKER_00]: It's accountability for the kids.
16:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Because when you only have a few items, you keep them nice.
16:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have one bobby pin, you save that one bobby pin for a really long time, right?
16:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Versus you have a pull pack and they disappear in like a week.
16:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Or like a rubber band or whatever the case may be.
16:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever you have one of, you keep for a really long time.
16:53
[SPEAKER_00]: So when the boys have one coat, it's like, well, we can't afford to leave the coat at the neighbors.
16:58
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm able to keep track of that one coat a lot better, and they're able to keep track of that coat a lot better.
17:05
[SPEAKER_00]: same thing with their shoes when they have one pair of shoes, there's very high stakes and we actually end up keeping track of the pair of shoes versus they have a few sets of shoes and it's kind of like you keep, you don't keep as short of accounts when you have multiple items of things.
17:20
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, oh, we'll just throw on your other pair and then weeks go by and you forgot.
17:25
[SPEAKER_00]: where you left, you know, the first pair, or the first pair was unmatched.
17:29
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, four boots, I will say, again, this is a very contrified wardrobe, honestly, obviously.
17:36
[SPEAKER_00]: It went with a, I'm kind of going with like a 70s vibe, like 70s western vibe, at least that's what I found.
17:43
[SPEAKER_00]: All my, everything I was loving in my search terms was kind of this 70s and 80s feel, and I'm just picturing like my dad and his brothers when they were little.
17:53
[SPEAKER_00]: wearing these clothes.
17:55
[SPEAKER_00]: But that fits our, you know, our season very well.
18:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So the boys won pair of shoes.
18:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And when I say one pair of shoes, they do have in the winter.
18:06
[SPEAKER_00]: They have a one piece snow suit.
18:08
[SPEAKER_00]: They have snow boots that are snow slash rain boots.
18:11
[SPEAKER_00]: They're
18:12
[SPEAKER_00]: buck boots and then a pair of gloves.
18:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So, those snow and buck boots are not counting in this.
18:21
[SPEAKER_00]: During the summer, they have a pair of converse running shoes.
18:26
[SPEAKER_00]: They are converse tennis shoes that they have and so they have those converse shoes in the summer.
18:32
[SPEAKER_00]: They have their
18:40
[SPEAKER_00]: the two older boys have running shoes.
18:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So, they have basically I am not counting athletic shoes, okay?
18:48
[SPEAKER_00]: So, snow shoes and athletic shoes, the older kids do now have, but when it comes to an everyday shoe, they only have one of them.
18:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So as you can see, these are a little worse for the wear.
18:58
[SPEAKER_00]: These are my six five-year-olds.
19:02
[SPEAKER_00]: We get real leather cowboy boots.
19:05
[SPEAKER_00]: They last for forever.
19:07
[SPEAKER_00]: You'd think, actually, my kids will go through a pair of boots.
19:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Like these will fall apart before.
19:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Lawrence grows out of them and we will get him another pair.
19:16
[SPEAKER_00]: He just wears him so hard.
19:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is what he will wear every single day.
19:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And what's nice is I'm not worried about this.
19:22
[SPEAKER_00]: He wears him out on the property.
19:23
[SPEAKER_00]: He wears him in the dust.
19:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we go to church and he puts on these boots and the wranglers and a nice sweater or colored wrangler shirt.
19:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Tucks it in with this bell.
19:36
[SPEAKER_00]: you jealous hair, and he looks like a million bucks.
19:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he just looks great.
19:43
[SPEAKER_00]: All the boys look so dashing.
19:45
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is what I found is the best for us, for our lifestyle is going with a style that's going to service in the country, but also, it'd be super hardy, but then whenever we go into town,
19:58
[SPEAKER_00]: everybody is just like, oh my goodness, your family so cute and in that they look put together.
20:04
[SPEAKER_00]: The kids look like they care, they don't look rag tag, even though if you want to look at their boots, they actually do look rag tag.
20:10
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like a theme or a style.
20:13
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, you'll see in that video.
20:16
[SPEAKER_00]: whether you're in the Get It All Done Club or on Substack, how this all kind of pulls together.
20:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it might not be your style.
20:23
[SPEAKER_00]: When we lived in town, these are the boots that I would purchase.
20:27
[SPEAKER_00]: I got these for Lucy this year.
20:28
[SPEAKER_00]: This is one of those splurge items that I talked about, or I kind of pulled resources and purchased her these shoes.
20:34
[SPEAKER_00]: So these are Adely Senko shoes, they're little leather boots.
20:37
[SPEAKER_00]: They're so soft and cute.
20:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what I bought for a couple
20:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I bought these boots three years or no row for our kids.
20:49
[SPEAKER_00]: So I buy them a little bit big, and they wear them from fall all the way through.
20:54
[SPEAKER_00]: They could wear them through the summer.
20:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I often would buy them like a pair of sandals, that's what Lucy has for her summer shoes.
21:02
[SPEAKER_00]: or a pair of commerce for the boys.
21:04
[SPEAKER_00]: So, these are so soft, the reason why I can't do these out here for the boys are they just scuff and chip too easily, like the luthers too soft.
21:16
[SPEAKER_00]: The boys literally wore these in town, they would get big holes in the bottom.
21:20
[SPEAKER_00]: By the time they were done, before they'd outgrown them, like when they'd worn them a whole season.
21:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just,
21:29
[SPEAKER_00]: too hard on these boots out here in the weather.
21:32
[SPEAKER_00]: So we went with cowboy boots for the boys, but when we were in town, these are a great option.
21:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and we did dress more urban in town.
21:38
[SPEAKER_00]: So instead of the wringlers, they wore joggers, or kind of like more urban pants, and then more urban shirts as well.
21:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Out here, I've kind of embraced the western look, just because of the practicality.
21:52
[SPEAKER_00]: something for girls is making over clothing that you already have.
21:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So I always buy Lucy's dress is big, so if I'm buying her a summer dress like this one, I purchase it big.
22:06
[SPEAKER_00]: And one she's little enough, she looks adorable no matter what she's wearing.
22:10
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like has to be perfectly sized for her, fitted to her.
22:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's the case until a little girl start, you know, going through puberty.
22:18
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can wear, I buy this dress big in the fall.
22:23
[SPEAKER_00]: These dresses often, if they've survived the summer, and it's in good shape, then it's usually a little shorter.
22:30
[SPEAKER_00]: So we could put tights under it, or a pair of leggings under it, and then I have a couple of these layering shirts that you can wear underneath.
22:41
[SPEAKER_00]: any dress.
22:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're very versatile.
22:43
[SPEAKER_00]: She wears these with her skirts.
22:44
[SPEAKER_00]: She wears these under her dresses.
22:46
[SPEAKER_00]: And then if you're going into winter and you want to even warmer, then purchasing a good sweater that is soft.
22:53
[SPEAKER_00]: This one's from Jamie Kay.
22:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, this was a little more expensive.
22:57
[SPEAKER_00]: I could have thrifted something like this if I went through a store.
23:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not something that I work into my schedule right now, really, but you put this on top and all of a sudden, this little spring or summer dress has totally turned into a fall on winter dress.
23:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And the nice thing is that you're not purchasing
23:21
[SPEAKER_00]: three pieces for one outfit.
23:23
[SPEAKER_00]: You know how they do on the website where they're like suggested items and you're like, wow, I could buy like seven pieces for this one outfit.
23:30
[SPEAKER_00]: That's great, but then after that for the next outfit and I have to do that for the next outfit.
23:35
[SPEAKER_00]: No, this is very versatile because you do the exact same thing with another dress.
23:40
[SPEAKER_00]: You either wear this shirt or you put a sweater on top.
23:43
[SPEAKER_00]: So
23:44
[SPEAKER_00]: These two items, all of a sudden in turn, a whole wardrobe into a fallen winter wardrobe as long as the colors aren't too far off, which I'll show you, um, Lucy's wardrobe in.
23:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Those videos, and you can kind of see how everything mixes and matches.
24:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Another nice thing about this entire system is there is no garage storage.
24:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I stores zero.
24:07
[SPEAKER_00]: kids close.
24:08
[SPEAKER_00]: I store out or where.
24:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So for instance, snow suits, snow boots, I store those things.
24:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Cotes, maybe if in a coat, if a coat isn't a very good condition, then I have a
24:23
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's it you guys and for the most part this will actually be the first year I probably store any coats because the kids have worn through their coats But this year I got coats that are not synthetic they're all natural fiber coats And I think they could last For years and years and years so I'm planning on storing a bit of coats this year But up until this point I don't store any clothes and this is why When you're only buying a week's worth of clothes your children wear them over and over and over and over
24:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And the nice thing about that is they are worn through by the time they're grown out of and by the time the season ends.
25:00
[SPEAKER_00]: It all kind of happens at the same time.
25:01
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is kind of a math equation you can figure out on your own.
25:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It's how many clothes is your child going to wear through by the time the weather changes.
25:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And I have found that for us it's about a week's worth.
25:16
[SPEAKER_00]: then they will be pretty tattered by the time the weather changes and so I feel really good right now it is so nice to go through Lucy Summer closet and be like and find wow this shirt is super stained this shirt is small and the him is falling off this one got a grip in the bag um this dress is toast and just throw them out like they aren't even good enough to give to a good will
25:45
[SPEAKER_00]: more and through.
25:46
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, if you're buying higher quality items, this might not be the case, so by big, if you can, so you can get a couple of seasons out of them, and then you might be donating them after that, or I don't know.
25:57
[SPEAKER_00]: This is my first time buying higher quality items for the most part, like even the boys' leather boots, they're wearing out after a year.
26:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So again, we haven't had this problem.
26:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So, it makes it really nice, because I'm just not storing clothes at all.
26:14
[SPEAKER_00]: If there are clothes that are in kind of good condition, like the boys have their two nice dress shirts, they are in good condition from the summer, all I do is I take those two summer shirts and I throw them in their plate clothes bin, so now those are open season, they could wear those whenever they want, and now they're going to get worn out really fast.
26:34
[SPEAKER_00]: So, they're getting replaced by those two nice sweaters that I'm going to hang up and The summer shirts now become place shirts and the wear them around the house the wear them under jackets They'll just hang out at home in them and they're gonna get worn through and staying in Tattered and I'm gonna throw them out before it's time to buy new nice shirts for next summer
26:55
[SPEAKER_00]: So the last thing I want to run you guys do are coats.
26:58
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about our coats this year, and a great tack again to buy coats is to buy them used, especially if you're doing natural fibers.
27:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So for instance, this is my daughter's coat.
27:10
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a Rothschild brand, which I mean, you know, that just
27:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Screams luxury, but it's 100% wool.
27:21
[SPEAKER_00]: It is so warm.
27:23
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a very expensive coat you guys and I got it for $35.
27:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, everything is totally intact.
27:30
[SPEAKER_00]: The buttons, it's beautiful.
27:32
[SPEAKER_00]: She loves it.
27:32
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a nice dress coat.
27:34
[SPEAKER_00]: I could not go to Target and buy her a $35 coat.
27:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't go on Amazon and buy her less than a $35 coat.
27:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So to get one, that's 100% wool that's going to keep her warm, and I got it a little big.
27:47
[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to last her at least two years.
27:51
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a huge win for me.
27:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to show you a couple more of the boys' coats that I got.
27:56
[SPEAKER_00]: In the past, I have had matching Boyd's coat, so we just went on Amazon, and bought five of the same kind, or whatever.
28:04
[SPEAKER_00]: But the boys have started kind of spreading out in sizes, and so I decided coats are one area where we don't have to match anymore.
28:12
[SPEAKER_00]: But I got this adorable little denim coat, 100% cotton inside.
28:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at the sticker tag, $14.
28:21
[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, this is so thick and warm and cozy, and you put this on my toddler, and he just looks so cute in it.
28:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you can't buy stuff like this anymore, unfortunately, or you end up paying an arm and a leg.
28:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's another version of,
28:38
[SPEAKER_00]: a coat.
28:39
[SPEAKER_00]: My five-year-old looks so, he looks pretty cool and this one actually.
28:46
[SPEAKER_00]: But again, these are so warm and thick and hearty.
28:50
[SPEAKER_00]: This is where the 70s vibe really comes into play.
28:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I searched on eBay.
28:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I think like 70s sears coats.
28:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is one that came up, love the corduroy, it's just so cute.
29:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, these are just so warm and thick.
29:10
[SPEAKER_00]: And at any time I would go on a website that would find a coat a little bit like this, it'd be $1300.
29:15
[SPEAKER_00]: This coat here is all leather.
29:21
[SPEAKER_00]: super warm Lakeland sportswear styled in Wisconsin.
29:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is again from the 70s or 80s.
29:30
[SPEAKER_00]: That's where all these coats were from.
29:31
[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they lasted that long gives me hope that they're going to continue lasting that long.
29:37
[SPEAKER_00]: This one is 100% wool again.
29:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I paid probably.
29:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, $20 for this coat.
29:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say a couple of the coats.
29:47
[SPEAKER_00]: I paid closer to $40 for, and then some were really cheap.
29:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that other one, there was.
29:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I forget what I told you it was.
29:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to repeat myself because I can't even remember.
29:59
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like $12 to $14.
30:01
[SPEAKER_00]: This one here is, yeah, again, just wool.
30:05
[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't going to go bad.
30:06
[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to last forever.
30:08
[SPEAKER_00]: This is could be like an heirloom coat that you hand down to a grandchild.
30:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, they're just so warm.
30:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And here is one more.
30:19
[SPEAKER_00]: So these go really well with the boys, jeans, and sweaters, and they look so dashing in them.
30:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, just a little hack, find a nice brand, find a brand that you like, find a brand that's quality, and then look for it used.
30:36
[SPEAKER_00]: that would be my tip.
30:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Something that does really help to keep your inventory low, especially if you're a thrifter.
30:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you're like thrifting, it's really hard to not buy things that are just a good deal.
30:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It is for me, is reverse engineering your children's wardrobe.
30:52
[SPEAKER_00]: So like, don't be in other clothes on the ground and putting only the ones in the bin or drawers or hangers or whatever you're doing.
31:00
[SPEAKER_00]: That you're going to need.
31:01
[SPEAKER_00]: So put a week's worth of clothing on the hangers throw in, you know, seven pairs of underwear and five to seven pairs of socks.
31:08
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about socks in a second.
31:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe some tights in there or whatever the case may be, whatever you think you need.
31:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And then don't even look at the rest.
31:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Just put it in a bag and give it to someone else.
31:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't hate it.
31:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and that's what's really nice when I shop is I do at this point just have an inventory in my head if my eight year old already has a coat I could see a nice coat at a thrift store or online or you know in a store somewhere like that's a great coat maybe we'll get a style like that one day here he has a coat
31:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need to double up on what I already have.
31:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I do the same thing with my house, I have a list of things items I would like to purchase in my house.
31:50
[SPEAKER_00]: If I already have a calendar strainer, I'm not gonna buy another calendar strainer.
31:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's $2 or not, like that box has been checked, I no longer need it.
32:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And when you have items that you really love, then you don't feel like you always need to go bigger and better.
32:05
[SPEAKER_00]: You feel like, oh, well, that box is just checked, and I can enjoy that box is checked.
32:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So if all my children have a pair of shoes to wear a town,
32:13
[SPEAKER_00]: and run around and during the day, I'm not buying a pair of shoes because it's a good deal because to me that $2 or that $5 is actually just a wasted expense because I'm doubling up on something that I already have.
32:24
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, that really helps me when it comes to purchase is know what I'm looking for and once that inventory quota is filled, stop looking or just know that I don't want to manage the extra because they aren't going to go through the two pairs.
32:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And so then I'm going to end up storing it and storing becomes a burden and it becomes the snowball that then I have to manage.
32:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, socks, and then I will let you guys go.
32:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Something that is really helpful with socks is I buy all black socks all the time for my boys.
32:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to see what ends up on their socks.
32:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I purchase all the same size.
33:01
[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a what 18 month year old through
33:08
[SPEAKER_00]: nine-year-old, yes, all wearing the exact same size of sock.
33:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's very possible socks are so stretchy.
33:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I buy the medium size.
33:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I buy like 5T or S.I.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
33:36
[SPEAKER_00]: crew socks and they all have on the toe a color.
33:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So I bought the wrong size before and it was cool because it's like, oh, they're all green on the toe versus red on the toe.
33:50
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the little kids can all wear the red on the toe, the bigger boys if they want, can wear the greens on the toes for whatever reason, the red toe socks, where everybody's favorite.
33:59
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just went back to buy
34:02
[SPEAKER_00]: the midsize, buy in 5T, but what makes this nice is you're never looking for pairs in your laundry and I never pair socks.
34:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I just grab all the black socks out and I chuck them in the bin and the boys go in and they go red toe, red toe, I got a match.
34:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, because those green toes are mixed in there now, they're able to look oh, green toe, green toe, I've got a match, but you're never buying exact pairs of socks and so you lose one.
34:30
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, say it's got orange tigers on it and the other one has like red stripes.
34:37
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you lose that sock, your toast, the whole pair goes to waste.
34:40
[SPEAKER_00]: But in my case, if I lose a red-toed sock, it still matches with the other 15 red-toed socks in the bin.
34:46
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm good.
34:46
[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't spend any time pairing socks and the boys don't spend any time trying to find a Mitch-Match socks.
34:53
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't waste any money on Mitch-Batch socks.
34:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, that is kind of a life hack for my daughter.
34:58
[SPEAKER_00]: I buy all the same stockings.
35:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And those are cream, but I buy all the same ones.
35:04
[SPEAKER_00]: So the same thing applies.
35:06
[SPEAKER_00]: She's able to mix and match them.
35:08
[SPEAKER_00]: If she loses one, it's not a total waste.
35:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, okay, I just threw a ton at you there.
35:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that it was helpful.
35:15
[SPEAKER_00]: I talked so much.
35:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I am missing, again, Elijah, and he will be back next week, but I hope that was helpful for you guys.
35:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, if you're looking to enroll and get it all done club, that's open.
35:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Currently, I believe those links below.
35:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, leave a link for sub-stack if you're looking for just a lower price point, but are still interested in some encouragement here or there.
35:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's see, I should probably mention of Oakburg Music Academy.
35:42
[SPEAKER_00]: One, we're opening the studio next week, which I am so excited about, or maybe like, maybe two weeks.
35:49
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly when this is coming out.
35:51
[SPEAKER_00]: But right after Labor Day, so if you're local and cordaline Idaho or Hayden Idaho, we would love to have you guys drop by after September 7th.
36:00
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're getting ready for the fall challenge over in Voper music academy and we're doing a big back-to-school discount right now, which is our biggest discount ever.
36:13
[SPEAKER_00]: It's 50% off.
36:15
[SPEAKER_00]: The first month you are enrolled.
36:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll leave a link down below for that too.
36:20
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's it.
36:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a lie store of mine.
36:22
[SPEAKER_00]: If I need to say anything else, so I hope this was helpful and we will see you guys next week.
