- 0:12Speaker 1: madness for you right here on ninety seven three ESP
- 0:15Speaker 1: And you know, March it begins. The month of March
- 0:20Speaker 1: is on Sunday, and of course March madness is all
- 0:23Speaker 1: right here. The March madness in the football world is
- 0:26Speaker 1: free agency. We'll have all of that happening here soon
- 0:30Speaker 1: and right out here to talk a little bit about
- 0:32Speaker 1: that and more the combine. Do the Eagles really want
- 0:36Speaker 1: to trade aj Brown? What are the signs saying? Let's
- 0:39Speaker 1: bring in Adam Kaplan from the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Who's back on a football at four Friday? Adam, good
- 0:46Speaker 1: to talk to you again, man. I feel like it's
- 0:47Speaker 1: been a while.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Where are you been, Yeah, man, where you've been? So
- 0:50Speaker 2: when you were away, what was the time difference from
- 0:53Speaker 2: where you live at.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Home in Egypt? It was seven hours in Jordan? It
- 0:57Speaker 1: was eight hours.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh wow, ahead, wow. I know, I know you've been
- 1:01Speaker 2: for this before, so it's something new to you. But wow,
- 1:03Speaker 2: That's that's quite the difference.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I was trying to keep up with what was
- 1:06Speaker 1: going on. You know over there, no one seems to
- 1:07Speaker 1: know what AJ brown saga was. I would ask people,
- 1:10Speaker 1: what do you think of this? AJ Brown? Who? What?
- 1:13Speaker 1: So let's get into that. Yeah, do they really want
- 1:16Speaker 1: to trade AJ Brown? We heard Roseman talk on Tuesday.
- 1:19Speaker 1: He's been all over the media trying to state their case.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It seems to be a big national story starting to
- 1:26Speaker 1: kind of build as we get into free agency here.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So what do you think about AJ Brown? Did the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Eagles really want to move him?
- 1:32Speaker 2: All? Right? So let me address this because you know
- 1:35Speaker 2: how he did at least a half a dozen media
- 1:36Speaker 2: interviews this past week in Indianapolis. He also did the
- 1:40Speaker 2: He did a pre Combine interview with the Eagles Beat
- 1:45Speaker 2: Right reporters last week. So this is my understanding from
- 1:49Speaker 2: talking to clubs and they've been in contact or know
- 1:53Speaker 2: what's going on. They don't look they it seems like
- 1:57Speaker 2: and you always have to take what Howie says and
- 2:00Speaker 2: you have to look into it because it's not always
- 2:02Speaker 2: the reality. But it seems like answering your question, Mikeuld, No,
- 2:05Speaker 2: they don't really want to do it. But he is
- 2:08Speaker 2: turning twenty nine in June. That means he's twenty nine
- 2:10Speaker 2: in NFL years. He did fall off a little bit
- 2:13Speaker 2: from tape study. And I've often said this, Mike, particularly
- 2:17Speaker 2: at that position, you never went to wait till it's
- 2:20Speaker 2: too late. You saw alshon Jeffrey. They restructured and extended
- 2:25Speaker 2: his contract the last one and it didn't work out.
- 2:28Speaker 2: He quickly fell off, and aj Brown and me talking
- 2:31Speaker 2: to people just getting the opinions. He's probably got two
- 2:33Speaker 2: good years left in him. Now, look, if you get
- 2:36Speaker 2: a fresh round pick, it sounds great. We'll see, we'll
- 2:40Speaker 2: see what happens if that's what wands up being offered.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But here's the thing. Who's this replacement? Like it sounds great, Right,
- 2:48Speaker 2: You've got Davonte Smith. You've got one great pass target,
- 2:51Speaker 2: Davonte Smith. Dallas Gotter signed under contract, he's thirty one.
- 2:56Speaker 2: It's not gonna be easy to bring him back. So Mike,
- 2:59Speaker 2: it's it's hard. As we said on our show, Jeff
- 3:02Speaker 2: Moscher and I, there's no one you could sign in
- 3:04Speaker 2: free agency to replace him, and he either would have
- 3:06Speaker 2: to come in a trade. You'd want a younger receiver,
- 3:08Speaker 2: by the way, who would have to come in the draft.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So it's we don't We never do odds and anything.
- 3:13Speaker 2: It's pointless. But it's just I I my my my senses,
- 3:18Speaker 2: my intel on this. As degals have looked at at
- 3:21Speaker 2: this and they'd have to be blown away to move them.
- 3:24Speaker 2: That's That's just the way I'm summing up all the
- 3:26Speaker 2: information I've gathered this week. We'll see what happens. But folks,
- 3:29Speaker 2: if you want to move aj Brown, you got to
- 3:32Speaker 2: have a replacement. It's just not that easy.
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, And you know, I want to get your opinion
- 3:37Speaker 1: on this, Adam. Is the fact that I don't think
- 3:38Speaker 1: they want like I think people feel like, is there
- 3:40Speaker 1: a fracture relationship. It doesn't seem that the Eagles want
- 3:43Speaker 1: to trade him, but they are willing to for the
- 3:46Speaker 1: right deal.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's accurate. I honestly, it's kind of like, I mean,
- 3:52Speaker 2: Howie again did a bunch of interviews. It's it's what
- 3:57Speaker 2: you look into, what what Howie is? It's what what
- 3:59Speaker 2: didn't he say? He did say, like, look, don't listen,
- 4:02Speaker 2: they'll listen to Look if you're gonna he's not gonna
- 4:04Speaker 2: have If someone calls. This is what makes him the
- 4:07Speaker 2: NFL's best GM. He's going to listen. Now, the Patriots
- 4:11Speaker 2: have called, as we've reported over the years, they've called
- 4:13Speaker 2: more than once. By the way, this is well before
- 4:15Speaker 2: Mike Rabel got there. And let's be honest, Uh, for
- 4:20Speaker 2: Stephan Dicks to return to the Patriots, he's most likely
- 4:23Speaker 2: going to have to take a pay cut, and he's
- 4:25Speaker 2: got a legal situation that's that's out there, and he's
- 4:27Speaker 2: an older player. But let's say New England engages the Eagles,
- 4:31Speaker 2: what could they possibly give the Eagles. They're not gonna
- 4:33Speaker 2: want Stephan Diggs back, so what could they possibly trade him?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Mac Collins I'm joking. Matt Collins actually had a good year,
- 4:39Speaker 2: So that's a tough one. And by the way, you're
- 4:42Speaker 2: talking about the thirty first pick overall in the first
- 4:45Speaker 2: round if that's what they want. If again that we
- 4:48Speaker 2: have not heard that they've set a price yet for
- 4:51Speaker 2: ag Biden. See how he's playing it smart. If teams
- 4:55Speaker 2: want to call, he'll take their call, but he's not
- 4:56Speaker 2: going to be making calls. It sure sounds like that
- 4:58Speaker 2: from what we've been told.
- 5:00Speaker 1: All right, Adam, A couple other storylines that were kind
- 5:03Speaker 1: of made this week. From Roseman's press conference, he mentioned
- 5:06Speaker 1: Tyler Steen. We also know when you and I were
- 5:09Speaker 1: at the Super Bowl, the buzz there was Landon Dickerson
- 5:12Speaker 1: and Lane Johnson. They both seem to be cleared up
- 5:14Speaker 1: as coming back, and Tyler Steen was mentioned that they
- 5:19Speaker 1: anticipated him starting. So it looks like all five starters
- 5:22Speaker 1: are going to return with a new offensive line coach
- 5:25Speaker 1: is Steen though firmly entrenched in your.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Mind, he's a starter right now we're in late February.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I understand why how he said that. He doesn't want
- 5:35Speaker 2: to say even if it's true that the job is open,
- 5:38Speaker 2: but Steen's the starter as of now. Like I'm saying,
- 5:41Speaker 2: but let's just understand. Their offensive line run block and
- 5:45Speaker 2: watch was mostly horrendous. Stein is a former and left tackle.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Okay that he's new to guard. He's only been playing
- 5:52Speaker 2: in a couple of years at the NFL level in
- 5:54Speaker 2: an average year. This is a Stalin decision to move
- 5:58Speaker 2: him inside. Stallin is no longer the offen. It's a
- 6:00Speaker 2: line coach show. Well, let's see what they do in
- 6:02Speaker 2: the draft, Mike. Let's just see we're fully expecting them
- 6:06Speaker 2: The offensive line will be addressed and free agency in
- 6:08Speaker 2: the draft. It could be more, it could be mostly
- 6:10Speaker 2: the draft. I mean, that could certainly happen, but they're
- 6:13Speaker 2: definitely offensive line Mike was really poor last season.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And it showed that's an area where obviously twenty three
- 6:19Speaker 1: you got to keep an eye on. There's so many
- 6:22Speaker 1: options at twenty three, which obviously we'll start to talk
- 6:24Speaker 1: about more as we get closer to the draft. What
- 6:26Speaker 1: is because free agencies? First? What is that free agency plan? Then?
- 6:30Speaker 1: In your mind?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's much like we reported last year. We
- 6:34Speaker 2: put it out on our Monday morning show, which this
- 6:37Speaker 2: year will be money. March ninth, that's the open negotiating period,
- 6:42Speaker 2: so called legal tampering. Then the door is completely wide
- 6:45Speaker 2: open at four o'clock Eastern on Wednesday. But it's going
- 6:51Speaker 2: to be a low cash bend. But I was joking
- 6:53Speaker 2: with someone this week that Jalen Phillips and he is
- 6:57Speaker 2: a priority Mike. If they get his deal done, he'll
- 7:00Speaker 2: probably aren't more in this first year than the Eagles
- 7:03Speaker 2: spend and freegency last season on over ten players. That's
- 7:06Speaker 2: that's how little they spent. Now part of it, as
- 7:09Speaker 2: we noted then and it's still true. Part of it
- 7:12Speaker 2: is they're trying to get some players extended. They're working
- 7:15Speaker 2: on that. They they've they've got a list, whether it's
- 7:18Speaker 2: Jordan Davis, Moro Jomo potentially Jailing Carter, they've got a
- 7:22Speaker 2: list of guys that they want to get done. Phillips
- 7:25Speaker 2: is clearly priority. They want this done. We we've talked
- 7:28Speaker 2: about this for a bunch of weeks. How he kind
- 7:31Speaker 2: of confirmed it, and even he kind of he made
- 7:33Speaker 2: it clear they want him back. And look, they have
- 7:35Speaker 2: a third round pick for the guy. That's that's a
- 7:37Speaker 2: you know, that's a that's a start around. That's the
- 7:40Speaker 2: lowest start around as a third round pick. So yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 2: they're they're gonna but they've mike not just football operations,
- 7:49Speaker 2: non football operations. They've lowered their cash bendfull we've heard
- 7:52Speaker 2: over the years. So this is just what they do.
- 7:54Speaker 2: A lot of NFL teams do this. They look at
- 7:56Speaker 2: how they're spending the money and sometimes they're redistributed. But
- 8:00Speaker 2: in terms of football operations, a lot of this part
- 8:03Speaker 2: of this has to do, I should say, with trying
- 8:07Speaker 2: to get a bunch of players extended. And I was
- 8:09Speaker 2: saying in our Pittreon live stream last night. Over the
- 8:12Speaker 2: next two years, you could have nine extensions done, Okay,
- 8:16Speaker 2: Ojomo Davis, Carter. It's guys who have either extended or
- 8:21Speaker 2: they'll know their starter. They know who's going to be here,
- 8:24Speaker 2: Jomo Davis, Carter, Phillips. If it works out. Bonn is
- 8:27Speaker 2: already signed Quinnan Mitchell and Cooper Dejene after next season.
- 8:35Speaker 2: And I mean their starting unit, Mike could look really
- 8:38Speaker 2: really good and really really young. Other than Bond Mike,
- 8:41Speaker 2: they're absolutely stacked on defense right now.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Well, let's then talk about defense because they got a
- 8:46Speaker 1: big question on defense and free agency, and that's Jalen Philip.
- 8:50Speaker 1: They traded for him. He got a little run here,
- 8:52Speaker 1: so they got to see how he fits in. Did
- 8:54Speaker 1: he make enough of an impact, did they want to
- 8:57Speaker 1: bring him back? Would he be a priority?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, As I said to Minutesico, Mike, he's Donald Jay priority.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Here's here's one thing I'll add to what I spoke
- 9:05Speaker 2: about a couple minutes ago, and Jalen Phillips. He stayed
- 9:08Speaker 2: healthy last season, Mike. He didn't miss any playing time.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's a big deal. Okay, high character guy. He has
- 9:13Speaker 2: built Mike literally exactly out of Grantite. He's exactly what
- 9:16Speaker 2: you want in an edge rusher. He's just built like that.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And look, he was a first round pick. He played
- 9:22Speaker 2: for Fango and Miami. It's another thing we should added that.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That doesn't matter, you know, it's a scheme now. The
- 9:27Speaker 2: only thing though, Mike going forward and Jared Sunt will
- 9:30Speaker 2: be a starter with Jalen Phillips, the Phillips is back.
- 9:33Speaker 2: The fascinating move is what do they do with Nyland Smith.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I know he's under contract. This will be his fourth year.
- 9:40Speaker 2: We'd be stun if they picked up this fifth your option.
- 9:42Speaker 2: If Phillips is back, he would be a backup. So
- 9:44Speaker 2: what will be the point of it? And Fanjio does
- 9:46Speaker 2: not play more than three edges now. The Boys have
- 9:49Speaker 2: Brandon Graham on the bat signal if they need him.
- 9:51Speaker 2: He has made it clear he's not retiring, least as
- 9:54Speaker 2: of now. It could change his mind. But Jared Son,
- 9:57Speaker 2: we don't talk about him enough. He had a breakout season,
- 10:01Speaker 2: particularly in the second half he left. You want to
- 10:04Speaker 2: see more. He was that good. He's a very interesting player.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And boy, him as a third round pick has been
- 10:09Speaker 2: very productive.
- 10:11Speaker 1: All right, Adam CAPITL football for right. And then of
- 10:13Speaker 1: course you mentioned extensions. It sounds like one of these
- 10:16Speaker 1: like running the back type situations that the extensions is
- 10:19Speaker 1: really the plan of the off season. Don't expect the
- 10:22Speaker 1: big exciting move. It just might be these we're going
- 10:25Speaker 1: to bring back this guy, this guy, and this guy,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and they might be the smart, right thing to do,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but usually not that exciting of an offseason.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Then, Honestly, Mike Arther, thank corner the right cornerback, which
- 10:37Speaker 2: was clearly not good enough with with Dory Jackson. He
- 10:39Speaker 2: was serviceable, but just not good enough at thirty years old. Yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 2: that's a move that could come in the draft a starter.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It could come as a mid level free agent. But
- 10:48Speaker 2: again they're set in a defensive line edge rush. They
- 10:51Speaker 2: want Philps. Now, now I should mention what let's say
- 10:54Speaker 2: Philips has asked for way too much money and he
- 10:56Speaker 2: walks right, then they could replace the money that they
- 11:00Speaker 2: were trying to get filled with. That could change something.
- 11:03Speaker 2: We'll talk about that. Mike will leave you with that
- 11:05Speaker 2: more next week.
- 11:06Speaker 1: All right, Adam Kaplan on a Football Friday edition of
- 11:10Speaker 1: Football at four here on the Sports Bats Live. There's
- 11:12Speaker 1: so many things that this offseason is going to bring us.
- 11:15Speaker 1: It's going to have so many different interesting conundrums that
- 11:18Speaker 1: they're going to have to deal with. Of who to
- 11:20Speaker 1: bring back. You mentioned Nolan Smith, whether they can you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: what they do with him. How about Jordan Davis, He's
- 11:25Speaker 1: got the option as well. You've got to try to
- 11:27Speaker 1: resign Quinnon and Cooper and obviously Jalen Carter at some point.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So all these things are going to be coming up
- 11:34Speaker 1: here in the near future for the Eagles, and Adam
- 11:36Speaker 1: Kaplan and the guys from the Inside the Birds podcast
- 11:39Speaker 1: will be with us here all offseason. Thanks man, Thank you,
