- 3:38Speaker 4: I'm excited for this year's festival.
- 3:40Speaker 4: We participated the first year.
- 3:42Speaker 4: We walked and you had us down there and we walked around and saw what was going on and we participated last year we had an absolute fantastic time.
- 3:51Speaker 4: And this year I just want to quick say this is our first podcast we did bring out a new sponsor and it's Whiskey Thief Distilling.
- 4:01Speaker 4: We did this just saturday, on saturday, and uh.
- 4:05Speaker 4: So what was exciting about it is that when I was talking to walter about it, he's like are you coming to the vip event?
- 4:11Speaker 4: And I'm like the vip event, you know, on friday night, and I'm like I don't know, I'm what, I didn't know he goes.
- 4:17Speaker 4: You're coming, you're our sponsor, I'm sponsoring you, so now you're coming.
- 4:21Speaker 4: So I was really excited about I'm sponsoring you, so now you're coming, so I was really excited about that.
- 4:25Speaker 4: So, you know, let's talk about the.
- 4:27Speaker 4: You've got the Saturday, which is the actual festival, but let's talk about everything also that leads up to it, and what you guys got to do to do that, and who's going to be there this year and if there is anything different or what kind.
- 4:41Speaker 4: You know, it's just always been such a great festival and when you're walking around you never know who you, who you're going to see or meet.
- 4:49Speaker 4: But uh, let's just get right into that.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Whoever wants to take, if you, if you start with thursday.
- 4:58Speaker 5: We've got the bourbon bell um, and that's that's a.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Um.
- 5:01Speaker 5: We've got heather wibble.
- 5:02Speaker 5: She's teaching a bitters class on the bourbon bell?
- 5:03Speaker 5: Um, and that's that's a.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Uh, we've got heather wibble.
- 5:04Speaker 5: She's teaching a bitters class on the bourbon bell.
- 5:06Speaker 5: It's a.
- 5:07Speaker 5: It's a river excursion um for 30 people.
- 5:10Speaker 5: There's I think there's two tickets left on that um, that that'll be great.
- 5:14Speaker 5: And um, oh and grum is going to be on there.
- 5:16Speaker 5: They'll sample and then you'll get two full cocktails.
- 5:19Speaker 5: You'll get her book um and a tumbler to take home with you.
- 5:23Speaker 5: That's at two o'clock on thursday.
- 5:25Speaker 5: And then whiskey beef, like you were talking about.
- 5:27Speaker 5: They are throwing the kickoff party out at at their distillery, so they'll have live music and fire games, tastings the whole nine yards.
- 5:37Speaker 5: It's.
- 5:38Speaker 5: It's a good time okay, emc was there last year.
- 5:42Speaker 5: I think I was pretty busy that night, but it was a good time, right, amc?
- 5:46Speaker 6: Yeah it was great.
- 5:47Speaker 6: You know last year was the first time doing the kickoff event.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Kind of short notice, the weather was kind of sprinkling rain.
- 5:58Speaker 6: Last year I still had, you know, probably over a hundred people and it was a phenomenal time.
- 6:03Speaker 6: Um, samples, you know they had their food truck going their bars.
- 6:07Speaker 6: If you want other cocktails or anything like that, um, fire, pit, porthole, all that stuff, you've been out there.
- 6:14Speaker 6: It's a it's a great place to go and um, spend a few hours and uh, yeah, that's, that's a very good event.
- 6:23Speaker 6: If anyone's in town, I definitely recommend they go to it.
- 6:26Speaker 6: If they haven't made their plans yet, then plan on going to it.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah so that's Thursday night, right?
- 6:35Speaker 4: Yes, that's.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Thursday and then going into Friday.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Friday we've got a ton of stuff going on.
- 6:39Speaker 5: New this year we've got a 1 pm bourbon pairing event with Peggy Nostevens and Buffalo Trace, and that's at the History Center.
- 6:49Speaker 5: They're going to have some food pairings.
- 6:53Speaker 5: They're going to walk you through Buffalo Trace, weller 12, and Stagg Jr.
- 6:59Speaker 5: I believe it's going to be a really nice event.
- 7:03Speaker 5: I mean, lime Water is going to be doing the catering for that, so there will be some appetizers.
- 7:10Speaker 5: They'll be nice-sized appetizers.
- 7:13Speaker 5: That's at 1 pm and you have just enough time to go home and get dressed up for the Friday VIP, which is at the same facility at 5 pm and that's what Whiskey Thief invited you to.
- 7:25Speaker 5: They are our sponsor for that home and get dressed up for the Friday VIP, which is at the same facility at 5 pm, and that's what Whiskey Thief invited you to.
- 7:30Speaker 5: They are our sponsor for that again this year.
- 7:32Speaker 5: So in the auction we are going to have the opportunity for you to bid on a barrel pick experience from Whiskey Thief, and then there'll also be one with Four Roses.
- 7:39Speaker 5: There's quite a few nice things to bid on in that auction, but you know it's a sampling event outside in the side patio.
- 7:47Speaker 5: It's gorgeous.
- 7:48Speaker 5: We'll have about 10 distilleries sampling out there.
- 7:52Speaker 5: It's catered for your dinner.
- 7:55Speaker 5: It's really a nice event.
- 7:57Speaker 5: You'll rub elbows with special people in the industry and it's a nice, nice, intimate kind of time oh yeah, it's.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember everybody after right last year the auction did really well, right.
- 8:11Speaker 4: If I'm not mistaken, some of the the stuff that was that you guys offer um, was not stuff that people.
- 8:18Speaker 4: It wasn't just like getting a couple bottles of bourbon.
- 8:21Speaker 4: There was a lot of, uh, fun kind of stuff that you could uh that was bidding on and I heard I we didn't attend last year, but I heard a lot of good things about it right.
- 8:32Speaker 5: So we we team up with dfi.
- 8:34Speaker 5: They get the proceeds from um, the auction items, except for the barrel pick that whiskey thief is donating, that.
- 8:40Speaker 5: The proceeds for that will come to us, um.
- 8:43Speaker 5: And then there's a couple of charities that put their stuff in that auction as well, but there's some nice high-end stuff you can bid on.
- 8:50Speaker 5: But there's also a silent auction that goes on and there'll be a mix of different things.
- 8:55Speaker 5: You know different price tags you get your hands on.
- 8:58Speaker 4: There's something for everybody, of course so also, um, throughout the whole year you guys are active, especially, uh, from when I you know.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Uh, I kind of pay attention, I'm on the list and I see all the stuff you do on facebook, but you do a lot of stuff for charity.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It's, it's, you know, I'm always seeing stuff that you know, facebook and whatever what you're doing, talk about that, I mean the.
- 9:23Speaker 4: It just doesn't stop.
- 9:24Speaker 4: It's.
- 9:25Speaker 4: It's pretty much throughout the year.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Well, we, um, we identify beneficiaries throughout the year, we we actually cut the checks usually in very early in the year, in January, and have a beneficiary event.
- 9:39Speaker 1: but um, we are a nonprofit.
- 9:41Speaker 5: So, um our proceeds we give back to um these different charities.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Uh, our philosophy is kind of anything that benefits the community or anybody who visits the community.
- 9:52Speaker 5: So, um, and then we also have scholarships and scholarship funds, and and we donate to the white oak initiative, you know, which is dedicated to the sustainability of the White Oak, which is required for making bourbon, as we all know.
- 10:08Speaker 5: So it's very diversified.
- 10:11Speaker 5: But yeah, last year we gave back 50,000.
- 10:13Speaker 5: The year before we gave back 50,000.
- 10:16Speaker 5: So we're really proud of that.
- 10:19Speaker 4: As you should be.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I mean, when you think about that, I mean when you initially were getting ready to do this, and early on, I mean, did you think that it would?
- 10:29Speaker 4: I mean it's it seems like as you keep going further, it stabilizes and you're, you guys, are really getting down the.
- 10:39Speaker 4: You know the actual what would you, the motions going through, leading up and doing everything.
- 10:45Speaker 4: You know all festivals have their, each one has their own issues or whatever, but at the same time the experience keeps getting good and better and then also the people that come through it just becomes more and more um-known.
- 11:03Speaker 4: It's like it's you know, you hear about it more and it's talked about more and you know, talk about.
- 11:09Speaker 4: You know, now that you're this far along, what it's like to do it now, compared to when you first started.
- 11:16Speaker 6: I'd kind of like to pitch in on this one and I would say I think, first and foremost, you know, diane mentioned the, the charitable aspect, and we we run a pretty lean operation.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Um, diane is really our only what I'm trying to call a full-time uh, employee, and, and without Diane we wouldn't even be on here.
- 11:40Speaker 6: I don't think the festival would happen, and I think all the other board members would agree with that.
- 11:51Speaker 6: You know, what we are trying to do is raise money to give away, and, at least for me personally, that's my main motivation.
- 11:58Speaker 6: You know, the time I spend with Bourbon on the Banks Festival is so that we can raise more money and make a difference in the community.
- 12:05Speaker 6: So I like to get out there, that out there, and then I think that that's what drives a lot of us, and I think that's part of why we have a successful festival.
- 12:16Speaker 6: The demand has gone up, and every year we have set a maximum number of tickets that we want to sell.
- 12:24Speaker 6: At the beginning we didn't want people to have a bad experience because lines were too long, too crowded or anything like that, and so we slightly increased ticket sales every year, never quite selling out what we were doing, but we were still increasing attendance by 30 plus percent a year.
- 12:43Speaker 6: Last year I think we decided where we were on.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Tickets for Saturday was 2000, and that's where we wanted to cap it, and I think we sold out what Diane like the day before or something like that we sold out the day of.
- 13:46Speaker 6: The actual day of yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 6: And then you know this time we sold out of.
- 13:50Speaker 6: You know the Saturday tickets, general admission and everything.
- 13:55Speaker 6: I don't know if we sold out Twilight tickets, but we sold out what?
- 13:57Speaker 6: A month ago, or something like that.
- 14:00Speaker 5: It was the end of.
- 14:01Speaker 6: July yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 6: So the demand is there.
- 14:05Speaker 6: I think, as word gets out, people are talking about the great time they're having at Bourbon on the Banks Festival, and so I think more and more people want to come to it.
- 14:15Speaker 6: And also part of that, you know and it's one of the things Diane's kind of responsible for is that we send surveys out after the festival to attendees, to vendors, to volunteers asking hey, what did you like?
- 14:28Speaker 6: To vendors volunteers asking hey, what did you like, what can we improve?
- 14:35Speaker 4: And we try to make those changes to make it a better festival every year.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome and that's exactly like you said.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Last year you sold out the day of, which was just fantastic to sell out, I mean, but then that had to make you feel like that was the right amount of people, because then you sold all the tickets and but this year the fact that it sold out, you know, end of July instead of the first weekend of October is spectacular for you guys and it's got to help you, diane, a little bit.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Knowing you don't have to deal with ticket sales for the next couple of months, bit, knowing you don't have to deal with ticket sales for the next couple months, you can concentrate on other things, because you're always trying to I mean, I don't raising money and ticket sales and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:15Speaker 4: When you're dealing with it is, um, there's always uh, work to be done, put it that way.
- 15:21Speaker 4: People have questions and you know there's so much.
- 15:23Speaker 4: And then also, you know that's part of you know selling out is part of getting the revenue so that you have the money to donate and give back to the community.
- 15:32Speaker 4: But that's spectacular and that's kind of what I was leading you know to, is that people know about it now and people have talked about it.
- 15:42Speaker 4: But I'll tell you, like last year, one of the cool things about it and it's funny because when, like, being a podcaster and being a vendor at the festival is so different than just enjoying yourself at festivals it's kind of now that I've done this for five years and it's actually becoming something that structurally and then you got to start doing taxes, where you got to like, take it seriously.
- 16:08Speaker 4: And then you got to start doing taxes or you got to like, take it seriously, but when you're at a festival you're trying to obtain the most.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Um, you know, we're trying to obtain the most content.
- 16:15Speaker 4: We want to do shorts, we want to do video you know youtube videos afterwards of the whole festival to count so that we can promote.
- 16:22Speaker 4: But, um, there's, you're working so much so you don't always get to participate.
- 16:27Speaker 4: But one of the cool things about the festival last year is that there was a bottle that Bardstown released earlier in the week while we were and we weren't down in Kentucky yet.
- 16:38Speaker 4: So I was bummed out that I wasn't able to get that bottle at the release and I saw the interview on it and everything.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And then there it was at the festival and it was like so they have, there's special bottles of bourbon that you can get that you might not be able to get elsewhere, and you guys have that covered, along with tasting pretty much all the different uh distilleries.
- 17:04Speaker 4: How many distilleries do you have this year that are going to be participating?
- 17:09Speaker 5: So the count is up to 85.
- 17:12Speaker 5: That actually includes a few breweries and wineries too.
- 17:17Speaker 5: So after distilleries I would guess it's in the high 70s.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Which is fantastic.
- 17:22Speaker 4: I mean, I have no problem with you guys having a couple of breweries and wineries from the area because you're promoting the area.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Plus, you know, having a beer or a glass of wine isn't quite the same.
- 17:38Speaker 4: After you've had, you know, 20 samples of of bourbon, that becomes a little bit um, what would you?
- 17:41Speaker 4: It can become a little bit uh, overwhelming.
- 17:44Speaker 4: As far as I'm not.
- 17:46Speaker 4: I'm not talking about too much bourbon, but just straight bourbon or whatever.
- 17:50Speaker 4: The, the wine or the beer can be a little bit refreshing, and so I always felt that was kind of cool what you guys had there, plus you have the.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Are you having the coffee there again?
- 18:00Speaker 4: yeah, they should be there yeah, which that's some fantastic coffee that helps out later in the day when you're dragging, and then um what you got for live music and food trucks right yeah, for sure.
- 18:14Speaker 5: We've got the six um music stations set up throughout the, throughout the festival.
- 18:18Speaker 5: And then we've got the food court um different ones coming in.
- 18:21Speaker 5: This year we've got a lobster truck coming in and a couple I don't there's a couple that are coming back that were big hits.
- 18:29Speaker 5: But yeah, Community Q will be there with your favorite stuff.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I know that the food trucks, initially there's always been, but it seems like year after year that you have more options, like you said, but there's some more what would you say specialized food trucks out there.
- 18:50Speaker 4: So and then, as that can go, that just works so well into festivals.
- 18:53Speaker 4: And you know I used to.
- 18:55Speaker 4: You know, when I first started going I wasn't really.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I tried to do the dinners and everything and really didn't go by the you know food trucks.
- 19:02Speaker 4: But after the last couple of years I kind of look forward to the food trucks.
- 19:06Speaker 4: You know the one year you had the corn, that was pretty cool.
- 19:15Speaker 4: You know he's dipping corn and butter and whatever.
- 19:16Speaker 4: And then you know you got lots of different things.
- 19:17Speaker 4: So and it is important on an all-day festival to eat.
- 19:19Speaker 4: So what's the hours of the saturday this year?
- 19:24Speaker 5: uh early access and special access open up at 1 pm.
- 19:28Speaker 5: General access is at2 and then the twilight ticket will get you in at four o'clock for the last two hours and we were able to open those up to go over 2000 um, only because there are people who are leaving.
- 19:43Speaker 4: That came in at one o'clock and so we will go over slightly 2000, but only because of the twilight ticket yeah, and that twilight ticket somewhat makes sense for somebody who wants to come in and just kind of experience what's going on.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Plus, I guess you got to tell your vendors to stay right at it for those twilight ticket people, right all the way till yeah, they stay at it until 6 pm yeah, I mean it's, it's, it's as it starts.
- 20:10Speaker 4: So that is one thing that I've always been impressed with what you guys do.
- 20:13Speaker 4: I mean I you know saturday check-in and everything and you get all the stuff there and then saturday starts out, but when 6 pm hits, that is, that is a fast uh, that is a fast takedown by everybody by the time.
- 20:37Speaker 5: You know that's when AMSI that's when you're in here, you know run around with tools and help everybody.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Yeah, eric Northcutt, who is our logistics coordinator, has mastered that art.
- 20:43Speaker 5: I think he's been doing it since year one, and I think the first year or the second year it was like two and a half hours, but he's got it down to something crazy like 45 minutes.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I don't know, but he's good at what he does.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he couldn't do it without him.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Yeah, when you look at it, and you look at it when it first opens to think that you guys get it out, probably everybody breaks down, is gone in two hours.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Oh, less than two hours I mean it's just, it's just like you're like well, that's impressive yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Yeah, and I would say we brought Eric on as one of our board members too, but he really every year, you know, so he's in charge of set up and tear down and where everyone's placed in the festival and he really just sees this like a beautiful mind vision of the whole breakdown process and what he can do better next year.
- 21:40Speaker 6: And so you know he's got different people from different areas going out at certain times to kind of avoid the log jam and really keeps it going smoothly and it is very, very quick now.
- 21:54Speaker 5: He was really put to the test this year with space-wise fitting in everybody that we needed to fit in.
- 22:00Speaker 5: We've got some larger tents this year because we offered a premium upgrade to some of the distilleries, so they get a 10 by 20.
- 22:08Speaker 5: And we have more distilleries than ever.
- 22:11Speaker 5: So he really is creative down there.
- 22:14Speaker 5: He spends a lot of time in the park this time of year.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Well, I would say, you know, from the past festivals there was definitely more room, but it's where the room was.
- 22:27Speaker 4: A lot of times you got, you tried to keep the people out of the sun, like there's some areas where the sun would be wide open where you guys there wasn't.
- 22:35Speaker 4: You know people, the only people you're going to put in there, that are the people with tents, because everybody has a tent, but I mean with big tents, you know I, you know so, but I mean with big tents, you know, you know.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So definitely I could see how you, how you could, with organization, fit more down there.
- 22:58Speaker 4: You know, and it sounds, I mean it's, it's, if any, for the people who have never come to Bourbon, on the banks, it is on the river's edge, off of, you know, the embankment from above, right, and it's just kind of like you guys are in a little Valley down there from start to finish.
- 23:15Speaker 4: You know you drop down in the park on the one end.
- 23:17Speaker 4: The other way you can walk in, uh, over the bridge, you know, from the hotel and and get in there, but it's, it's definitely leads down and you're right down there in that little valley or gully or whatever you want to, and it's right on the river.
- 23:34Speaker 4: The river offers some.
- 23:36Speaker 4: If there's a breeze, it offers some relief to any.
- 23:39Speaker 4: If it's cold, because you can feel a little breeze coming off, that's a little cooler.
- 23:42Speaker 4: So I mean, I really the space is really kind of cool.
- 23:46Speaker 4: It's like your own little space.
- 23:48Speaker 4: If people are driving by and don't know it's there, they could miss it.
- 23:52Speaker 4: It's down there.
- 23:53Speaker 4: It's funny because until you've gone, you're not even really aware of that park down there and you just kind of drive by it a million times and it's right off the main road that leads to Buffalo Trace.
- 24:07Speaker 4: So it's, you know, right off the main road that leads to Buffalo Trace.
- 24:09Speaker 4: So it's a cool, cool event.
- 24:10Speaker 4: And so you've got your Friday night.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Now do you have anything for Sunday, or is there?
- 24:17Speaker 4: Is that?
- 24:18Speaker 5: We're not done with Friday.
- 24:19Speaker 5: We also have our free family event.
- 24:23Speaker 5: The Bourbon Street on Broadway is downtown from 6 until 930.
- 24:28Speaker 5: And that's a free.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Credit union sponsors that every year and that is have you been to that?
- 24:36Speaker 4: The which one.
- 24:37Speaker 5: The Bourbon Street on Broadway.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Yeah, the festival.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Yeah, Last year we were on Friday night.
- 24:42Speaker 4: We were walking around and they're, you know, going to all the different places.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I think we ran into Matt from Augusta and all the bars.
- 24:50Speaker 4: They were all open and it's fantastic.
- 24:55Speaker 5: Well, we've got the circus there, we've got street performers.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw the fire.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah, fire performer, yep.
- 25:05Speaker 5: We've got a gal, danny Green, who does live paintings this year.
- 25:08Speaker 5: I've got a guy doing caricy green who does live paintings this year.
- 25:10Speaker 5: I've got a guy doing caricatures and there's a balloon guy.
- 25:13Speaker 5: I mean it's, it's.
- 25:14Speaker 5: All of that.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Stuff is free.
- 25:16Speaker 5: So, um, kids can come, and then there's set up on the lawn is a bunch of non-profit, um, non-profits in the area.
- 25:24Speaker 5: They set up for kids and they have all kinds of free activities for kids to do there.
- 25:28Speaker 5: So families don't have to spend any money to have a good time at that event, but you can.
- 25:33Speaker 5: There's food trucks there, you can get a drink in the bar and walk around.
- 25:37Speaker 5: It's, it's a it's a fun event for adults and kids.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Yeah, if anybody knows Frankfurt, it's just in that one section where both sides, where it's almost like the, the street is almost like it, like an alley kind of, because both sides has restaurants.
- 25:55Speaker 4: I'm in when you close that off it really does feel like a block party, but you know it's not awful, it does.
- 26:00Speaker 4: It's not a busy street feeling, you know.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Like you get that, uh, what out outdoor?
- 26:06Speaker 4: Um feeling you know.
- 26:08Speaker 4: And I think there's lights over the top of the street in that area, right?
- 26:15Speaker 5: No, well, I mean there's street lights, all through it and then it's on Broadway and St.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Clair.
- 26:19Speaker 1: St Clair is what you're thinking of.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:24Speaker 5: And then we've got a costume contest this year too, so we're really hoping people will step it up and dress up for that event this year.
- 26:29Speaker 5: And there's cash prizes.
- 26:31Speaker 5: What kind of costume?
- 26:32Speaker 5: The theme is fantasy.
- 26:35Speaker 5: I was trying to open it up to almost anything Anything goes, kind of thing and I wanted kids to be able to wear their Halloween costumes early.
- 26:45Speaker 5: If they want Another opportunity to wear your Halloween costumes early.
- 26:49Speaker 5: If they want, you know, another opportunity to wear a Halloween costume.
- 26:51Speaker 6: So I think it's time for me to break out my wizard costume, maybe that'd be perfect.
- 26:58Speaker 5: That'd be perfect.
- 26:58Speaker 5: And then we also have the Four Roses pub stroll going on.
- 27:02Speaker 5: So, well, well, you know, mom or whoever, and the kids are having a good time, the parents can be doing the pub stroll.
- 27:09Speaker 5: We've got, you know, all these downtown restaurants and um bars that are involved with that, and four roses is is is sponsoring it.
- 27:18Speaker 5: So you just get your next cocktail.
- 27:20Speaker 5: In each one I've got a little um passport so you can get that checked off, and if you get at least six of them checked off, you leave it at the bar at the end of the night.
- 27:29Speaker 5: You'll have chances to win tickets to the event next year.
- 27:33Speaker 4: So that's, that is uh, that's cool, yeah, definitely.
- 27:39Speaker 6: And something else to mention.
- 27:41Speaker 6: There is that Frankfurt has this new, uh downtown area called the mixed district.
- 27:45Speaker 6: So you go into a bar, you get those drinks, they put it in a special cup and you can't actually leave with them and wander around for all the other festivities.
- 27:58Speaker 4: So what would you say Now?
- 28:02Speaker 4: Could you have done that in the past, or is that something new this year?
- 28:06Speaker 5: No, we've had that for three years, I think, okay.
- 28:08Speaker 5: All right, that's not or is that something new?
- 28:10Speaker 6: this year We've had that for three years, I think Okay, all right, so that's not only during the festival.
- 28:15Speaker 6: So anytime you know, within the bounds of this downtown area, that's pretty sizable.
- 28:20Speaker 6: You can actually get your drinks to go and they just put it in a special cup.
- 28:26Speaker 4: It doesn't, that doesn't break.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Of course, the festival has its own permit.
- 28:33Speaker 5: So I mean you can buy from a vendor on the street and walk around with that a beer can during the festival.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Okay, as long as you stay within the festival.
- 28:41Speaker 5: You know boundaries so you actually have a lot of opportunities to walk around with.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Alcohol is all we're trying to put out there.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Well, yeah, that's the friendliness of it, and this is an event that is going to I can you already know it's going to be well attended.
- 29:07Speaker 4: We this year, we're smart and we're actually staying about a block away on the river that's where we got our Airbnb, instead of a 15-minute drive to Lawrenceburg like we did last year.
- 29:18Speaker 4: But it's going to be pretty cool.
- 29:19Speaker 4: We're excited to be a part of it.
- 29:22Speaker 4: So that's your Friday, correct?
- 29:26Speaker 4: And all the vendors set up also that day.
- 29:30Speaker 4: And then Saturday you open up at 1 o'clock for the special and then it starts at 2 for general admission.
- 29:39Speaker 4: So if you buy a general admission ticket, what do you all get, I mean from start to finish, what's available to everybody?
- 29:47Speaker 4: What would you suggest are some of the cool things they got to make sure that they attend at the festival?
- 29:54Speaker 5: Well, you get your sample glass and you get your wristband and you basically head out up over the flood wall and then you look down and it's like there's just there's tents lined up along the river and you can sample to your heart's content.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Obviously, they will not be serving people who are drunk or visibly, you know, had too much, but you can sample from any of the 85 vendors that are there.
- 30:23Speaker 5: And we also have about 20 merchants that all sell different types of bourbon type things.
- 30:30Speaker 5: We've got the food truck.
- 30:31Speaker 5: We have plentiful water in there, not only bottles of water, but we've got the water monsters where you can refill your water bottle.
- 30:41Speaker 5: And on the designated drivers, we do have a designated driver ticket.
- 30:47Speaker 5: There are some non-alcoholic drinks that are out there for them along the way as well.
- 30:54Speaker 5: And there's you know that music in the background.
- 30:56Speaker 5: You just kind of stroll along the river and there's, you know that music in the background.
- 31:00Speaker 5: You just kind of stroll along the river.
- 31:01Speaker 5: More than anything, there's just a lot of conversating with the distilleries and learning about their product.
- 31:09Speaker 5: We've got the bourbon societies that are there.
- 31:11Speaker 5: They've all got little lounges and they've got some experiences where you can I mean different things that they're having like an interactive experience with attendees, some sort of teaching.
- 31:22Speaker 5: You know, I think it's Lexington or Louisville they bring.
- 31:25Speaker 5: They bring all the little vials and that like they teach you how to nose, and all this stuff.
- 31:31Speaker 5: And urban women will be there, whiskey chicks will be there set up, so you have a lot of these different industry entities that are there to talk about what they can offer you, but also having an interactive experience.
- 31:48Speaker 5: And then Chad and Sarah are going to be there.
- 31:50Speaker 5: I think they're doing something special.
- 31:55Speaker 5: I can't remember what they said that they were going to do, but they always have a great turnout.
- 32:00Speaker 5: People come to see them and, of course, you guys are coming back right.
- 32:04Speaker 4: Yes, we are coming back.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Bourbon road will be there and, um, it's just, there's a lot of, there's just so many people to talk to and things to see, and and what do you think?
- 32:19Speaker 6: amzy, what do you think what I miss?
- 32:19Speaker 6: Well, I think the one thing you missed was when you come in at the top of the flood wall there and get your glass and look down on the festival.
- 32:25Speaker 6: You left out the angelic noises.
- 32:27Speaker 6: No, I did angelics, oh, did okay yeah I think that's it.
- 32:36Speaker 6: I think another thing, if you haven't been there, is I mean, jeff, you kind of talked about the park, riverview Park.
- 32:42Speaker 6: On one side it's the flood wall, so you don't really even see the town.
- 32:46Speaker 6: You see kind of the grass from that and then the river and the trees along the river, river, so it's a beautiful setting.
- 33:02Speaker 6: What I would say is probably don't don't just come in and start and try and hit every place, because you're not, you're not going to be able to do that so you know, eric, at some point we'll have the list of the distilleries where they're at.
- 33:12Speaker 6: So I would say for one, look at distilleries you're excited about.
- 33:16Speaker 6: Maybe there's a distillery who you haven't tried their stuff and you want to do that, because that's kind of what I do Every year.
- 33:24Speaker 6: There's this part of my mind that tells me I should step down from the board so that I can just go and enjoy this festival because it looks like so much fun.
- 33:32Speaker 6: And then usually at the end I'll get a little bit of time to kind of run around and try some things.
- 33:37Speaker 6: And you know, I think, like last year, I tried a sweet potato moonshine from the place in, I think they're down in Winchester.
- 33:49Speaker 6: I can't remember their name right now.
- 33:50Speaker 6: They changed their name, I think.
- 33:53Speaker 6: So I don't remember it.
- 33:55Speaker 6: But you know just a few places.
- 33:56Speaker 6: I'd never had their product and or maybe I knew a place had a new product, so maybe it was like was it a bluegrass distiller out of Lexington?
- 34:05Speaker 6: Hey, do they have their blue corn bourbon?
- 34:08Speaker 6: So I could go try that.
- 34:09Speaker 6: But that's kind of one thing I would do is look on the list, try and find some things you haven't had, but you've heard about them and you want to go try them.
- 34:16Speaker 6: You know a lot of these places being smaller craft distilleries.
- 34:21Speaker 6: You've got the chance to go talk to them.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Maybe the distillers there, if not probably at least someone who helps is going to be there and you can ask questions you know, why did you make this?
- 34:31Speaker 6: Why did you do it this way, why didn't you do it that way?
- 34:33Speaker 6: And I think that's something that makes the festival a little bit different.
- 34:37Speaker 6: It's a little more personal, you know, a little more intimate kind of, and that's kind of how we want to try and keep it.
- 34:45Speaker 6: So I think that's part of the limited sales too.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we are the one podcast that actually does podcasts that day, so we will be podcasting right from from the, the festival which we had a, I believe we did three steven fonte, we also had royce, uh, neely, and then also we had greg from lawrenceburg and, uh, we.
- 35:12Speaker 4: So we're set up to podcast so we can give people a live podcast feeling of the festival that you know for chatting, what chad and sarah do is fantastic, which they're doing, and what bourbon pursuit was there?
- 35:26Speaker 4: Uh, capturing what the the essence of the festival.
- 35:29Speaker 4: But chad and sarah, their booth is amazing.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I mean their merchandise.
- 35:33Speaker 4: They've always been such so good at it, but it's all right there for you.
- 35:34Speaker 4: I mean, half the time when they're talking to you, they're like selling t-shirts, so good at it, but it's all right there for you.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I mean, half the time when they're talking to you, they're like selling t-shirts and sweatshirts and it's just like you never they.
- 35:44Speaker 4: They know that they got a stock up on that one.
- 35:47Speaker 4: I love, I love how they, everything they do as far as their youtube channel and and whatnot.
- 35:53Speaker 4: But what I will say to everybody is there's a couple that I agree with what you're saying, am Amzie, but when you're going through, the first thing I would do is take a quick shot up and up and back and see if any of the places are having some special releases, cause it takes it with the length of the of the festival for that to go around.
- 36:19Speaker 4: It takes a little bit of time if somebody has a special release, for everybody to kind of get the buzz that that special release is happening, unlike some other play some other.
- 36:30Speaker 4: When you're going, everybody knows where the special.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Nobody really knows that.
- 36:33Speaker 4: And then check out while you're checking that out, see if you see the familiar people in the industry.
- 36:41Speaker 4: So make a note of that, of where to go back so you can talk like just if someone, if the distillers there or somebody you know that that's part of the, just you know a tour guide or someone like that that you know.
- 36:54Speaker 4: You make note.
- 36:55Speaker 4: I made note of that.
- 36:56Speaker 4: And then the last thing I did was made note of all the bourbons.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I mean you have 70 some different distilleries.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Make note of what you never tasted, because that's what these kind of festivals are for Get a chance to taste something that you've seen on the shelf 20 times you have no idea what it is and grab a taste of it to see if you like it and then if you want to buy it in the future.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I mean, I really think that is a strong point of a of a festival to be able to sample stuff that you wouldn't, you're not going to buy and you know, and that for even from a podcaster's point of view, that for me kind of spells out which direction I want to go in the future and who I want to talk to, and you know, that type thing.
- 37:43Speaker 6: You know a couple other little tidbits there.
- 37:46Speaker 6: Everybody kind of comes in at the same place, gets really crowded.
- 37:50Speaker 6: A little secret tip maybe walk past all that, go to the far end and work your way back.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Also, we do have out-of-state distilleries sampling and selling there.
- 38:04Speaker 6: But the way we get around that is they will be set up with Capital Sellers, a local liquor store.
- 38:10Speaker 6: That liquor store gets their product in.
- 38:13Speaker 6: They're all at the same place sampling, but the reps from those distilleries are there.
- 38:18Speaker 6: If you like something, then you kind of go to the checkout area that Capital Cellars provides and you can buy the out-of-state stuff as well.
- 38:27Speaker 6: And then also some special bottles to look out for.
- 38:31Speaker 6: This year we are going to have some barrel picks.
- 38:33Speaker 6: What we'll be doing this year and the past we have actually sold those.
- 38:38Speaker 6: I don't want to stand there and sell bottles the whole time.
- 38:42Speaker 6: So what we're going to do is the distilleries that are participating with single barrel picks.
- 38:49Speaker 6: They will be selling them and then giving a portion of the proceeds back to the festival the festival.
- 38:58Speaker 4: So, unlike the past two years when you were standing there and selling and handing out them, you won't have to do that now, correct?
- 39:05Speaker 4: Well, that'll help you walk around the festival a little bit easier.
- 39:10Speaker 6: Well, it will, but I'll probably be spending more time at the Frankfurt Bourbon Society booth or helping out.
- 39:18Speaker 6: I'm just thinking of things things you can help right now um, a couple things about the uh the barrel picks though.
- 39:29Speaker 6: Uh, so we'll be doing one uh with dark arts whiskey house.
- 39:34Speaker 6: Uh, macaulay minton uh down there in Lexington that's actually what I'm drinking one of his right now.
- 39:40Speaker 6: So, uh, macaulay originally was at uh wilderness trail from early on.
- 39:46Speaker 6: He was there single barrel curator, uh, kind of stepped out on his own, does some really amazing stuff.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Um, sourced products, a lot of different finishes.
- 39:56Speaker 6: We're actually going down this friday to come up with the blend of his that we'll be selling.
- 40:03Speaker 6: Um, oh, so haven't had, haven't had dark arts.
- 40:05Speaker 6: It's amazing, amazing stuff.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Um, I think I don't know what blend we'll have there.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Yet actually you show that and I actually have the same things that the french oak pennant.
- 40:20Speaker 6: Uh, yep yeah yeah, he does it very well.
- 40:24Speaker 6: He also has, you know, various, various things going on, just about every type of barrel you can imagine.
- 40:30Speaker 6: So, uh looking forward to see what we, uh we come up with there I like to.
- 40:35Speaker 4: I refer to mccauley as the Jim Morrison of whiskey.
- 40:42Speaker 6: He probably likes that.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure he does.
- 40:46Speaker 6: He does everything from Ambarana finish to various types of oak Madeira ports.
- 40:54Speaker 6: I mean just everything.
- 40:56Speaker 6: So, like I said, I want to kind of see.
- 40:58Speaker 6: Hopefully he's got some ideas on the blend he wants to do and I'm excited to see so.
- 41:03Speaker 4: So if you're going to do a blend, does that mean you're going to have?
- 41:06Speaker 4: So it won't.
- 41:07Speaker 4: It's not going to be a single barrel, so there'll be a lot more bottles available, correct?
- 41:12Speaker 6: Yeah, it depends on how much he brings.
- 41:14Speaker 6: He can always sell that by other means.
- 41:17Speaker 6: We could also.
- 41:18Speaker 6: Well, I've been.
- 41:20Speaker 6: You know, we blend three barrels together.
- 41:22Speaker 6: We may blend a third of each, and then he does something else with the others.
- 41:25Speaker 6: I don't, I really don't know yet all.
- 41:27Speaker 4: All I know is going to festivals like new orleans bourbon on the banks, kentucky bourbon festival.
- 41:34Speaker 4: I don't see a downside for a distillery at all, especially if they have a gift shop that they can sell out of.
- 41:41Speaker 4: But if they don't sell part of the barrel to go put it in their gift shop as bourbon on the banks pick, well, you know the hundreds of thousands people going through their distillery see it.
- 41:54Speaker 4: They're going to buy that because it's specific for a festival.
- 41:57Speaker 4: And you know that's one thing that I've always tried to explain to everybody when you have a pick for a festival that this place is putting this pick out so that all these new people who try what they're drinking you know what I mean they walk by, they try it, they're going to be putting their.
- 42:17Speaker 4: It's not just like a random single barrel that they had.
- 42:20Speaker 4: You guys choose from and you do the barrel pick.
- 42:22Speaker 4: They're putting out their best and then you're choosing from their best because they want you to like what you're tasting and go from there and people.
- 42:31Speaker 4: So you know it's a win-win when you go to a, definitely when you go to a festival, I mean in your guys' festival.
- 42:38Speaker 4: You have been doing a fantastic job, you know, from the start, and it was a great idea and it's so much fun to watch you guys become envisioned by you and then just doing.
- 42:51Speaker 4: You know small tweaks here or there.
- 42:53Speaker 4: But the hardest part I guess now is so many people want to participate and at first you had enough room.
- 43:01Speaker 4: You're just, you know, talking about well, we just had a couple more tents and we got enough.
- 43:04Speaker 4: And now you're, you know that space is probably this year pretty good filled up and you had to kind of logistically put everybody in spaces right.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Yeah Well, and I think that's the other thing.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Right, yeah Well, and I think that's the other thing.
- 43:43Speaker 6: At least you know, as we work into this kind of new way of doing single barrels.
- 43:45Speaker 6: We're going to kind of limit, you know, and then we'll kind of single barrel, uh, curator and blender.
- 43:47Speaker 6: Um, it's kind of funny what what I have from him.
- 43:48Speaker 6: So the last single barrel I got there I finished it off, I don't know um a week or two ago.
- 43:54Speaker 6: So I have a sample that I pulled there from peerless.
- 43:57Speaker 6: But, um, you know, peerless man, they have come a long way.
- 44:01Speaker 6: Their stuff now, like, I think the sample I've got is six and a half years.
- 44:05Speaker 6: That'd be a over a seven year old barrel now, um, and they just got just actually no, it's actually I lied, this was a little over seven when I, when I filled this one, almost seven and a half years, I mean, other stuff is phenomenal.
- 44:22Speaker 6: So I'm really excited about doing a pick with Peerless.
- 44:24Speaker 6: You talked about Lawrenceburg Bourbon Company earlier.
- 44:30Speaker 6: I think we're going to do a single barrel pick of their high wheat rye whiskey, which is kind of a unique mash bill, so it's wheat and rye.
- 44:40Speaker 6: Really love it.
- 44:41Speaker 6: Looking forward to doing that one, you know.
- 44:45Speaker 6: So, so going to be some interesting barrel picks we're going to have available for the festival.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Well, do you have a barrel pick for Whiskey Thief too?
- 44:55Speaker 6: Well, no.
- 44:55Speaker 6: So Whiskey Thief later on as the sponsor for Friday and they are offering the barrel pick experience that you can buy at the auction.
- 45:06Speaker 6: Now what they're going to do at their booth on Saturday for anyone who has been to Whiskey Thief, when you go visit they have like five barrels laid out.
- 45:14Speaker 6: The barrel tenders, the tour guides, are there with a copper whiskey thief pulling directly from those barrels.
- 45:21Speaker 6: You know, if you like one, you can fill it.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Uh, when they empty a barrel, they roll that out, roll in a new barrel.
- 45:27Speaker 6: So they're going to have a couple barrels at the festival.
- 45:30Speaker 6: Um, so they will be giving your samples straight from the barrel, like they normally do, and I think they're going to have some pre-filled bottles from each one of those barrels.
- 45:40Speaker 6: Okay, so a way for you to kind of do your own little single barrel pick that way.
- 45:44Speaker 4: So you're just basically bringing that experience right there and then it's ready to go because it's from that barrel, if you want to buy something from it and you like what you're tasting.
- 45:54Speaker 4: That's one of the reasons why I was so excited for having talking with walter.
- 45:59Speaker 4: And then you know all the people I know there, uh, that they wanted to be, they wanted to sponsor the podcast, and I think you know I just like I absolutely love that place.
- 46:11Speaker 4: I think it's an experience unlike any other.
- 46:14Speaker 4: What and it's what's the coolest thing for frankfurt is, it's what?
- 46:18Speaker 4: 10 minutes from buffalo trace, you get off and you go one way, you go to buffalo trace, the other way, you go to whiskey thief.
- 46:25Speaker 4: Either way, you're right there, you can do both of them with no problem and each one is such a different experience.
- 46:33Speaker 4: I mean, whiskey thief is unlike any experience out there.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Nobody's copied it yet.
- 46:43Speaker 6: I think there may be a few out there doing some pretty similar things right now.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Well similar, but not the whole business plan.
- 46:53Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 46:54Speaker 4: The experience, that's their business.
- 46:57Speaker 4: There's a lot of places you can go on barrel picks and you can do the barrel, buy the barrel pick experience, but usually it's not 30 dollars, it's a lot more than that and but that's just just the whole thing, you know, and it's laid out now.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I mean, I'll, I'll.
- 47:16Speaker 4: You guys are going to obviously have old Louisville there, I can imagine, and Amin does a nice job back there, but still not quite the same, you know, and it's just like it's a lot of fun, there's no doubt about it.
- 47:28Speaker 6: I think, the other thing there, as we mentioned earlier, for the Thursday night kickoff.
- 47:33Speaker 6: I mean you go there any day if it's cool.
- 47:36Speaker 6: They have the fire pit.
- 47:37Speaker 6: They've got all the outside chairs and tables on a farm hole, yeah, and you see people go there on a wednesday and stay for a few hours.
- 47:46Speaker 6: I mean it's just, it's a beautiful place, the corn that they've planted all around it, there are cows in those fields, um it's a good place to go hang out with friends.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I mean it's like going to your friend's backyard.
- 47:58Speaker 4: You know they're with the food trucks that they've friends.
- 47:59Speaker 4: I mean it's like going to your friend's backyard you know they're with the food trucks that they've added.
- 48:02Speaker 4: You know it's like having to go into a barbecue in the backyard.
- 48:05Speaker 4: You can go out on the out in the back and smoke some cigars, sit back, you know, keep sipping.
- 48:11Speaker 4: Uh, it's just a great experience and I and we've done it a lot.
- 48:16Speaker 4: So to now know that we're doing it and we're going to support and promote it, I'm super excited and it's one thing that you guys got there.
- 48:25Speaker 4: I'm glad that I live in Canton, because that just keeps me under control.
- 48:31Speaker 4: I mean, almost every time that we're going down I want to go there.
- 48:34Speaker 6: So, but no, another thing I would say is just Frankfurt as sort of a so, but no, another thing I would say is just Frankfurt as sort of a, a base of operations.
- 48:41Speaker 6: It's a good place to come to because, honestly, you're 15 minutes from you know.
- 48:46Speaker 6: I mean, you're basically right there at Buffalo Trace, but you're 15 minutes from Whiskey Thief or Wild Turkey or Lawrenceburg Bourbon Company or Four Roses or Woodford Reserve or Castle and Key or Glen's Creek Distillery, so so many in such a small area.
- 49:01Speaker 6: Some other new ones that'll be coming up too, you know, down towards Georgetown, 15, 20 minute drive down there.
- 49:12Speaker 6: New distillery going in down there called Limestone Farms, and then they are actually, like I said, they're fairly new on the block.
- 49:18Speaker 6: They've got some really great stuff, though, and they are actually our title sponsor for the event this year, so they'll be there.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's wonderful, like I said, then you get to taste the stuff of all the new things I mean Denny and Jane are building.
- 49:38Speaker 4: I can't wait until they start distilling.
- 49:40Speaker 4: But you know, when you're building a distillery that's a whole different thing.
- 49:46Speaker 4: And I've, as a podcast we've gone along with with some of the distillers, log Still, luca Mariano, and then up here Middle West Spirits I believe they're they they participate, do they?
- 49:59Speaker 2: Middle West, yeah, middle west spirits, I believe they're they.
- 50:01Speaker 2: They participate, do they?
- 50:01Speaker 2: Middle?
- 50:02Speaker 4: west.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's an ohio based that.
- 50:04Speaker 4: I mean, if you guys don't know, ryan, he basically built jim beam in ohio.
- 50:09Speaker 4: I mean it's that big of a distillery.
- 50:12Speaker 4: These, these, he bought and then he, he put in a, uh, 53 inch column and but he built a space for another one and put the order in right away.
- 50:22Speaker 4: So they're going to be having.
- 50:24Speaker 4: You know, okay, see you, roxy.
- 50:28Speaker 4: Bye, have fun.
- 50:32Speaker 6: I didn't know about their larger distillery until I was up there at Destiny.
- 50:36Speaker 6: My wife had a continuing education in Columbus and I went on a tour at Middle West's there in town and the tour guide mentioned the new larger distillery.
- 50:46Speaker 6: So you haven't?
- 50:46Speaker 6: Have you been out there yet?
- 50:48Speaker 6: No, not to the new one.
- 50:52Speaker 4: It's draw job.
- 50:52Speaker 4: I mean just not.
- 50:54Speaker 4: I can't believe he put that, that in Ohio we now have that.
- 50:59Speaker 4: And then that experience is going to.
- 51:01Speaker 4: He's building a village and he's in the distillery.
- 51:05Speaker 4: He's now, finally, I think he got up and he's really running and I'm supposed to go see him.
- 51:10Speaker 4: I saw him in the spring and it was up and running.
- 51:14Speaker 4: But you know there's so many different things when you're dealing with the automation of that many.
- 51:19Speaker 4: You know pressurized hoses and whatever it just I knew that the size of it was going to take a while, but now he's up and running, but it's just it's.
- 51:30Speaker 4: It's unbelievable.
- 51:31Speaker 4: I mean it's just it's bigger than Buffalo Trace.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 51:36Speaker 4: So when you go, and so he's going to have restaurants, a burger place, a pizza joint, a fine dining.
- 51:42Speaker 4: He's going to have shops and you know he's going to have um, like candy stores and and shops to go shop.
- 51:49Speaker 4: It's just a whole thing.
- 51:50Speaker 4: You know experience and he's got the.
- 51:52Speaker 4: You know he's good.
- 51:53Speaker 4: He even, uh, changed the angle of his cook cooker so that he could do bourbon and single malt, because he has such a problem doing single malt at the original distillery.
- 52:05Speaker 4: He kind of did some fixes, so there's just so much going into it, but yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 5: It actually sounds a lot like limestone farms.
- 52:13Speaker 5: These startups are kind of small, but limestone farms they've got the entire farm.
- 52:20Speaker 5: It's all being built out right now.
- 52:22Speaker 5: They're going to start with a visitor center.
- 52:24Speaker 5: They're going to get four gigantic pot stills.
- 52:27Speaker 5: They'll be the second largest pot stiller.
- 52:30Speaker 5: They're putting in a hotel restaurant.
- 52:33Speaker 5: They have gigantic plans, a lot like that.
- 52:36Speaker 5: And that's right in Scott County county, the interstate from us.
- 52:40Speaker 4: They'll be the only distillery in scott county all I can, all I can say is lately, like the last year and a half.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Holy crap, I would swear.
- 52:52Speaker 4: But I'm not gonna swear.
- 52:53Speaker 4: But it's unbelievable the amount of whiskey that is going to be generated, coming up in like 25, 26 with all these distilleries.
- 53:04Speaker 4: And these distilleries aren't small and you know, I see in the industry, as Heaven Hill was pointing out there, you know they just put in a brand new distillery and then they're like, well, we're not going to hire anybody else, we're just going to use the old workers.
- 53:19Speaker 4: And you guys are going to work twice as hard.
- 53:19Speaker 4: And they're like, well, we're not going to hire anybody else, we're just going to use the old workers.
- 53:20Speaker 4: And you guys are going to work twice as hard.
- 53:20Speaker 4: And I'm like, well, that's going to go over, but anyways.
- 53:24Speaker 4: But you got Heaven Hill building a completely brand new distillery.
- 53:28Speaker 4: You've got Whiskey House of Kentucky, you've got you know what you're talking about.
- 53:33Speaker 4: You've got Denny and Jane putting in a major podcast or distillery.
- 53:39Speaker 4: And then you also have the people from Green River who just put the Western what is it?
- 53:44Speaker 4: Western Kentucky, you know.
- 53:46Speaker 4: So they, you've got all these, all this whiskey that's going to be being made and I don't see it dropping off for Buffalo Trace.
- 53:55Speaker 4: I don't see anything.
- 53:56Speaker 4: But what I've noticed lately on the shelves is that if you're a blender and you're blending mgp people have been kind of over flooded with that just to an extent and you've got a.
- 54:10Speaker 4: You know, you've got the main distillers still doing good, but I see a like like it leveling off on the outskirts, you know.
- 54:17Speaker 4: So you've got all these distilleries going in and it scares me.
- 54:21Speaker 4: I mean, how much?
- 54:22Speaker 4: How much whiskey can people drink?
- 54:24Speaker 4: It's just.
- 54:26Speaker 4: There's an awful lot.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Our collections, as you know, diane, our collections are, you know, 800, 700, you know, you know, and I think this year, out of all the years, because of the fact that you know, we're a little bit tighter on whatever, I'm very much more.
- 54:42Speaker 4: I don't just dive into anything, I like to taste it, I like to know what I'm buying and I want it to be good if I'm going to buy it.
- 54:50Speaker 4: I get a lot of it sent to me.
- 54:51Speaker 4: I'm not, you know, I still will go through that.
- 54:53Speaker 4: But as far as my purchasing, I've saved up a lot for bourbon on the banks and Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 55:00Speaker 4: That's where I'm going to be spending my dollar, but I haven't been just quite as much going in line and spending it, you know, and getting all the different Elijah Craig's and everything.
- 55:12Speaker 4: So that's one thing.
- 55:13Speaker 4: But I don't see any problem with the festivals, that's for sure, because bourbon drinkers and this, this class of bourbon drinker, we get excited about this yeah, you know we have.
- 55:23Speaker 5: We were talking about the surveys that we take or that I send out, and some of the feedback was requesting basically a bottle check.
- 55:31Speaker 5: So for these people who are really at bourbon on the banks festival to do some serious shopping and having all these bottles to pack around um, in the past, logistically, we couldn't figure Banks Festival to do some serious shopping and having all these bottles to pack around.
- 55:41Speaker 5: In the past, logistically, we couldn't figure out how to do it and do it well.
- 55:44Speaker 5: But this year we will have a bottle check and it'll be free of charge.
- 55:49Speaker 5: We've got the Shriners, the local Shriners, who are going to run it, so you'll be able to buy as much as you want, take it and drop it off and go get some more.
- 55:59Speaker 5: So we're pretty excited about that edition this year.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Well, there you go.
- 56:03Speaker 4: We almost didn't say that that is a fantastic edition.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Honestly, that's something even in other festivals where they have lockers and everything and you put it in there.
- 56:16Speaker 4: But a bottle check makes more sense to me, because the locker only fits so much and you're still carrying stuff around.
- 56:22Speaker 6: Yeah, and you get tired when you're slugging around about 100 pounds of bourbon.
- 56:25Speaker 4: It's bad enough carrying my full Glen all the time, let alone bottles.
- 56:32Speaker 4: No, I mean, what's nice when you're a vendor there and you're out and you're interviewing and you might get some?
- 56:38Speaker 4: You could just leave it back at the tent.
- 56:41Speaker 1: So that's not bad.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's okay, but other than but that's fantastic, that solves the problem and I think it makes bourbon people.
- 56:55Speaker 4: You're going to see a difference in sales.
- 56:56Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, sometimes you have a few bottles and you're carrying it around and you see a bottle and you're like I don't wanna carry around another bottle, it's pretty heavy and you know it's like, but if you have that bottle check, you might see more people buying a little bit more than they would because they don't have to carry it around.
- 57:15Speaker 4: That's a great idea.
- 57:16Speaker 4: And then have the, the shriners helping you out there.
- 57:21Speaker 4: So that's fantastic, you that's, and uh, I'm sure, uh, you can tip them you can tip them and they'll get.
- 57:30Speaker 5: They'll get some a beneficiary check from us as well for doing that for us.
- 57:35Speaker 5: We support, support what they do, alright.
- 57:42Speaker 6: Anyone who's not familiar, just real quick, with the Shriners?
- 57:44Speaker 6: Um, just go to look up Shriners Hospitals.
- 57:48Speaker 6: You know they treat people who don't have the financial means.
- 57:53Speaker 6: My goodness, I know a few years ago their annual budget was pushing a billion dollars, so I'm sure it's over that now.
- 58:01Speaker 6: So they treat people, you know children, mostly with orthopedic issues.
- 58:07Speaker 6: They do also have a spinal unit.
- 58:09Speaker 6: They treat cleft palate.
- 58:10Speaker 6: They do also have a spinal unit.
- 58:11Speaker 6: They, uh, they treat cleft palate.
- 58:13Speaker 6: Um, they have burn units.
- 58:14Speaker 6: Um, you know they will provide transportation to and from the hospitals and lodging if needed for the family while they're there.
- 58:22Speaker 6: So anybody who's watching, who's not familiar with Shriners and their charity, which is the Shriners hospitals?
- 58:27Speaker 6: Uh, please look that up.
- 58:28Speaker 6: Which is the Shriners Hospitals?
- 58:30Speaker 4: Please look that up.
- 58:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and then also, ct was supposed to be on tonight, but he found out last minute that he had committed to something else, so he wanted to say hi.
- 58:40Speaker 4: And he jumped in and said hi, and sorry he couldn't make it tonight, but he'll be at the festival and so that'll be, that'll be great.
- 58:48Speaker 4: But, um, you know, normally I I'd be like, hey, you guys uh give information on how to sell tickets and I don't have to do that this year, so that's a good thing well you like.
- 59:00Speaker 5: I said you can still get those twilight tickets.
- 59:02Speaker 5: It's two hours is a good amount of time and we've got tickets to the bourbon pairing with peggy no stevens and the vip.
- 59:09Speaker 5: I mean it gets to the bourbon pairing with Peggy Nostevens and the VIP.
- 59:12Speaker 5: I mean you can still come to Frankfurt and fill your time.
- 59:15Speaker 4: Well, after those two hours everybody empties out into the city.
- 59:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Afterward party and then.
- 59:22Speaker 4: So you got that.
- 59:23Speaker 4: And now do you have anything for Sunday this year, or is that just?
- 59:28Speaker 4: I know last you've moved the riverboat experience before than after and that, I think, is a very smart thing to do.
- 59:34Speaker 5: yeah, well, what I've discovered is most people are heading home on sunday, um, or they're just, they're done, you know like, and yeah, so it's, it's okay, and I think you know Thursday is great.
- 59:51Speaker 5: A lot of people come in early because they want to do a lot of these distillery tours and stuff.
- 59:55Speaker 5: So, yeah, that's good.
- 59:56Speaker 5: We've got stuff on Thursday and Friday.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Well, I will throw out that Frankfurt does have a Waffle House for two o'clock in the morning.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I've heard, I've heard they do yeah oh yeah, I've heard they do yeah.
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: The other thing I would say is also make sure, stop by, visit the Frankfurt Bourbon Society tent as well, and then Saturday night after the event we usually have kind of a little open house type of thing.
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: We'll just have some, you know, charcuterie trays, some appetizers out, uh people sharing some pours with friends.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: So listeners of the scotchie bourbon boys are welcome to stop by.
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: Yeah, if you want more information, stop by our tent during the festival and, uh, we'll get you there.
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: I can contend that that the pours that people share there are fantastic.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: It's something that it was a, that I we've been there and it's a lot of fun.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Uh and uh.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: And the bourbon society every year when we get to go see it, you guys have it decorated and keep taking it further and further and uh, it's, it's a fantastic space.
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: Actually, out of all the societies I visited, I really enjoy, I think the frank, the Frankfurt Bourbon Society, is one of the best.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: You guys have a core of people that are in the industry and not in the industry.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: I mean, you can go there and Freddie Johnson is just hanging out with everybody or, you know, the night you have different people come and speak for you guys.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: It's fantastic.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: I mean, the Cincinnati Bourbon Society does a decent job, but it's still this is a little bit more what would you say personal.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: It's not quite.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: And your space right there in Frankfurt, right off the river, right off the bridge, is fantastic and you guys do a nice job.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: And I would have to say I've never been there and had any kind of nothing but spectacular experience.
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: Yeah, we're kind of lucky having our own space too, so that opens up a lot of opportunities for events for us.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: Yep, okay, all right, so I think you guys got it covered right.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: I mean, for the future, just throw out what's your website for people buying tickets next year.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: I mean, you're going to have to go Now.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: You have to get at it.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: You can't.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: Just you're still out in late July.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: You just can't buy a ticket day of you know, do you have people going?
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: Well, I remember when I used to buy a ticket day of why do I have to buy a ticket so far in advance?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: You have that kind of stuff too.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: I have.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: One of the hardest things about selling out early is hearing from people who missed out.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: It's heartbreaking, you know, because they're like I've been there every year and you know it's just um, I will put people on a waiting list, um this you know, occasionally things come up um unexpected weddings or funerals, and I do refund a ticket here and there, so but it's, but, yeah, it's, it's kind of a lesson learned.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: I think next year when we release the tickets, they'll probably go a lot faster, and I always, if you go to our website, which is bourbononthebanksorg, and you subscribe or you are a previous attendee, you get notified in advance, so you have a better chance of getting tickets.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: I do suggest that next year, when that happens, when those tickets open up, if you really do want to come, go ahead and get them for sure.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: I agree with that, because now this year you sold out early.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Last year you sold out day up, so people walking up could get tickets a little.
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: You know, they still had a shot of getting tickets this year and now people will know.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Well, if I really want want to go, I better get them right away, and that will definitely, that will definitely change the dynamic, but that's good to see.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: I mean, like I said, uh, selling out then or selling out right away just makes you at ease and you can go forward with so much other stuff.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: So, all right, um, thank you guys for coming on.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Um, thanks for having us.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: We, uh, I thanks.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: Thanks for having us at your festival too.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: We love to promote it, we talk about it.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: Uh, amzy, I consider you a true friend and uh and uh, throughout the year we get to see each other through mutual acquaintances and whatnot, and, uh, I just think the culmination of this festival is, you know, all festivals have their own personality, but you guys are, just like all the people in the industry that I've met, grounded, down-home people.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: You basically work hard at this but at the same time, you're doing it for helping charities and doing good, but along with uh, because you know the people in bourbon, uh, are fantastic people.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: I mean your festival.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: When you're there there might be occasionally somebody that may be over and indulged, but when that's happening there's about 10 people around them helping them.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Or if someone's got heat stroke or what because it's so hot and whatever, you just see that that community helping out.
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: But overall you never see bad stuff.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: I you don't see a lot of people over because this bourbon community that likes quality bourbon usually isn't just out there, you know, partying and destroying things like you can see at some festivals.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: So love it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: So keep up the good work you guys.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Now, Jeff also, you're from up there in the, the Norland of Ohio.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: It's really not that hot down here in Kentucky in October, so I know for you.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: It's warm, there's there's no ice floating on the river, I guess I guess the one year I was able to wear long pants on the day.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: but it did last year it was.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: It was.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: It got up.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: It was a little bit hotter than the year before, but, yeah, you have a.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: I think the first week of October is the way to go, and I think the earlier you get, like you see some of the festivals moving closer to the end of August.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: I mean that's like the hottest point.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: You're guaranteed probably no rain at that point, but at the same time you're going to need the air conditioning if you have air conditioning in your festivals, that's for sure.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: But I really the last two the days have been fantastic, right, yeah, and here's to another fantastic day, yeah, all right, everybody, I think that we covered it all this year.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: Make sure that you guys check out Bourbon on the Banks If you don't have your tickets already.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: You kind of got a good feel for this and plan for it next year and I will say if you're planning for it next year, get your tickets early, but also save up, because there's a lot of good bourbon that is at this festival that you just can't get daily.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: The distilleries will distribute bottles, and it's worth having it.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: Distilleries will just they distribute bottles and it's worth having it.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: So, um, I always find if you're going to go to a.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: When I go to a festival, I'd like to have enough cash or enough money to buy what I like to go to, so it gives you a chance to plan out, all right, um, thank you guys.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: Uh, I'm going to finish it up right here wwwscotchiebourbonboyscom for all things Scotchie Bourchy Bourbon Boys.

- 1:07:58Speaker 4: Drink responsibly, don't drink and drive, and live your life uncut and unfiltered.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: All right, that's the first time I tried that one.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: All right, so little Steve-O is going to take us out.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Let's see I'll get it right here.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: There it is.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Oh, show me the way to the next whiskey bar.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Oh, don't ask why.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: Oh, don't ask why.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Show me the way to the next whiskey bar.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Oh, don't ask why.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Oh don't ask why.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Oh, don't ask why.
