- 0:00Speaker 1: Great the flick with Ben shay Good in the morning.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ben couldn't make it in mode. Sorry, guys, I actually
- 0:09Speaker 1: had a better date, a better day. I'm on a junket,
- 0:12Speaker 1: a better date than you, guys. I know that I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: over here in Sydney and I'm about to speak to somebody.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You can't miss him if you can spot him in
- 0:21Speaker 1: a crowd from a mile off. Dwayne Dwayne Johnson. He's
- 0:27Speaker 1: over here in Sydney. In a couple of hours, I'll
- 0:30Speaker 1: be speaking to it. That's impressive, Ben, But still no excuse,
- 0:33Speaker 1: Still no excuse. Like Kazaria said, I want to go
- 0:36Speaker 1: with the young. Now what do we got? We got
- 0:42Speaker 1: the latest in the Despicable MEI franchise, Minions and Monsters,
- 0:47Speaker 1: which of course focuses on the little minions and those
- 0:50Speaker 1: little yellow guys with their sort of silver goggles and
- 0:53Speaker 1: blue denim overalls. Who you know, you wonder whether or
- 0:59Speaker 1: not you need an the Minions movie. And this is
- 1:01Speaker 1: the seventh installment of the Despicable Me franchise. And for
- 1:05Speaker 1: anybody who thinks that, for anybody who thinks that, I'd
- 1:07Speaker 1: probably just say, look, I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure
- 1:10Speaker 1: the studio can come up with seventeen billion reasons why
- 1:13Speaker 1: they need another one. That's how much money this franchise
- 1:16Speaker 1: has made in terms of box office, in terms of
- 1:19Speaker 1: merchandising at which they've made a ton from, and licensing.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So but the one interesting thing about this franchise has
- 1:27Speaker 1: actually been really solid from start to finish. All of
- 1:30Speaker 1: the Despicable Me movies have been pretty good, and all
- 1:33Speaker 1: of the Minion movies, some of them have be This
- 1:35Speaker 1: is the third one now that's specifically focused on the minions.
- 1:38Speaker 1: The first two were entertaining, like you probably find them
- 1:40Speaker 1: a bit forgettable, but they're certainly entertaining why you're watching them.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And the director and co creator of this whole franchise,
- 1:48Speaker 1: a Frenchman, Pierre Coffin, is that solo director of this film.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Fun fact, he also does the voices of all the minions,
- 1:56Speaker 1: so you know how they talk on that weird kind
- 1:58Speaker 1: of all of them, so that we'd kind of pigeon
- 2:00Speaker 1: Europeans Everyboddy please. It wouldn't matter if you forgot your
- 2:05Speaker 1: script because you just make it up as you go.
- 2:08Speaker 1: It's total gibberish. The best thing about the minions is
- 2:12Speaker 1: you recognize an occasional word, like there's a little bit
- 2:14Speaker 1: of an Italian, a Spanish, a French, whatever it might
- 2:17Speaker 1: be thrown in there, the occasional English word as well.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And you know, they get up to you know, sort
- 2:23Speaker 1: of slapstick hijinks. Kids just frop over the minions. This
- 2:27Speaker 1: latest iteration is, I think maybe has more appeal to
- 2:32Speaker 1: parents and adults than any other previous example. It's set
- 2:36Speaker 1: in nineteen twenties Golden Age of Hollywood, where the minions
- 2:42Speaker 1: randomly pop up in Tinseltown. They get a gig in
- 2:45Speaker 1: silent movies, and they instantly are a hit. They become
- 2:49Speaker 1: globally famous, biggest stars of the silent era. And then
- 2:53Speaker 1: when the big studio that they work for switches to
- 2:55Speaker 1: talkies switches to sound, which of course is a very
- 2:57Speaker 1: real thing that happened in Hollywood back then, everybody in
- 3:01Speaker 1: the audience realizes these minions just talk gibberish. And so
- 3:05Speaker 1: when they're making a sort of a Citizen Kane or
- 3:07Speaker 1: a noir detective movie, or you know, or a Cassa
- 3:10Speaker 1: Blanco style movie, and then you hear their silly little voices,
- 3:14Speaker 1: the audiences just go no, no, I'm out, I'm out
- 3:16Speaker 1: so instantly, instantly, their career evaporates, and so they come
- 3:20Speaker 1: up with the idea of, you know what, we need
- 3:22Speaker 1: to make our own movie. Let's make a classic monster movie,
- 3:26Speaker 1: except we've got this special spell book and we can
- 3:29Speaker 1: conjure a real life monster. And then they have to
- 3:32Speaker 1: save the world from the monster that they created. And
- 3:36Speaker 1: the way this film, I guess, is an ode to
- 3:39Speaker 1: that golden age of Hollywood is just fantastic. You've got
- 3:43Speaker 1: references to Charlie Chapter, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keating, Fritz Lang.
- 3:48Speaker 1: You've got Citizen Kane in there as well. For cinephiles,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you would watch this and go, oh, okay, that that
- 3:54Speaker 1: is actually legitimately clever. And then if you're talking about
- 3:58Speaker 1: the voice cast, you've got the minion obviously, but then
- 4:00Speaker 1: you've got Alison Jenny like absolute icon, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges,
- 4:05Speaker 1: Jesse Eisenberg. So it's just a fantastic cast of voice
- 4:11Speaker 1: characters as well. So and when I watched this the kids,
- 4:14Speaker 1: the kids were just tacking themselves laughing, yeah, and plenty
- 4:19Speaker 1: of laughs for the adults as well. Well. The big
- 4:21Speaker 1: question is how many minions tied to a railway line
- 4:28Speaker 1: edly coming out, are you giving it? And that's the
- 4:31Speaker 1: perfect reference for this film set in this era. I'm
- 4:34Speaker 1: going to give it three and a half. Alright, that's
- 4:37Speaker 1: that's good. So it's definitely worth a watch over the
- 4:39Speaker 1: school holidays, just you know, pure entertainment for an and
- 4:44Speaker 1: between that and Toy Story five, I think I think
- 4:46Speaker 1: families are pretty well served, well done. All right, Ben,
- 4:52Speaker 1: say to the rock for us I will I'll say, sure,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he'll remember
