- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, there he is.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Bye.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Babe.
- 0:10Speaker 4: Well, what's up? Guys who listen to you?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Oh, Halsey, that's what that is?
- 0:17Speaker 3: This song that that song is like eight years old.
- 0:21Speaker 4: And I don't always find things like everyone else does.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Donald, I would tell you it's fire. Listen, you don't
- 0:27Speaker 3: think that song is fire.
- 0:29Speaker 4: I'm late to the Halsey party.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Like seven years ago.
- 0:33Speaker 4: It's better late than never to the Halsey party. Donald,
- 0:36Speaker 4: there you go.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Why are you yelling?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Man?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Calm down.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I know I'm taking on. I'm taking I'm so rusty
- 0:41Speaker 4: with this podcast. I'm being you. I become you. I
- 0:44Speaker 4: am so excited to see you guys and to talk
- 0:47Speaker 4: to our audience that I've become Donald Faison and I'm
- 0:50Speaker 4: screaming off the top.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Speaking of fire records, you know it's fires that scissor
- 0:55Speaker 3: record man. Yeah, from front to and it's old too.
- 1:00Speaker 3: You guys can clown me if you want to.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I only I only know the song I just killed
- 1:05Speaker 4: Kill Bill is a great song.
- 1:07Speaker 3: There's so many great ones on that album.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Not the best idea.
- 1:13Speaker 3: There's a song called special. Oh my gosh, I missed
- 1:17Speaker 3: you guys.
- 1:18Speaker 4: I miss you too, bro, I really really missed you.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Did you see Guardians at the Galaxy?
- 1:24Speaker 4: No, but I'm told that people are crying. Bill Lawrence
- 1:27Speaker 4: even told me he shed a tear.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It's very hard not to cry in this movie. You
- 1:34Speaker 3: have to have a you have to have a heart
- 1:36Speaker 3: of stone and hate.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Well, I don't have a heart of stone or hate.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I will guess I'll cry too. Oh, I'm gonna go.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I'm gonna go, Joelle, did you love it?
- 1:48Speaker 5: I did really enjoy it. It's it was a really
- 1:51Speaker 5: fun ride. It was a wonderful Like if you go
- 1:54Speaker 5: back and watch the first two Guardians, you're like, man,
- 1:56Speaker 5: this story for Rocket really pays off.
- 1:58Speaker 3: It's okay, I'm I mean, everybody's story kind of pays
- 2:01Speaker 3: off at the right.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I have that underground story where you were kind of like, oh,
- 2:05Speaker 5: I know a little bit about his past but not
- 2:07Speaker 5: a lot, and what's really going on? And then this
- 2:09Speaker 5: whole beautiful arch about like where he came from and
- 2:11Speaker 5: how he came to be the guy, you know, and
- 2:13Speaker 5: then such redemption and it's really good.
- 2:15Speaker 3: It's so great. It was. It was a lot of fun,
- 2:18Speaker 3: and it was hard not to cry. And I tried
- 2:20Speaker 3: my hardest. I tried my hardest.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Why do I tried not to cry? I don't understand
- 2:23Speaker 4: this like this, I know.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Because it makes it feel better. It feels better when
- 2:27Speaker 3: you try.
- 2:28Speaker 4: It's like edging. You're edging.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I mean. It's like it's like
- 2:32Speaker 3: it's like right when you go, you know, like, Okay,
- 2:35Speaker 3: So I got my colonoscopy a couple of years ago,
- 2:38Speaker 3: and I remember.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Did you come?
- 2:40Speaker 1: What a transition?
- 2:41Speaker 3: So hard?
- 2:45Speaker 4: But don't be afraid. Don't be afraid of what happens.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Happens in the doctor's office. He can't tell the one
- 2:50Speaker 4: he's not tell anybody.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Well, let's just put it this way. I said to
- 2:56Speaker 3: the doctor. I said, listen, because somebody told me a
- 2:59Speaker 3: friend of mine who who unfortunately has cancer and had
- 3:03Speaker 3: it for a really long time, it has to get
- 3:05Speaker 3: colonoscopies a lot. It was like when they give you
- 3:09Speaker 3: the sedative, the thing to knock you out, tell them
- 3:13Speaker 3: to tell you before you get it, so you know,
- 3:17Speaker 3: and you can feel the difference.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Oh okay, and then oh so you tried to hold
- 3:24Speaker 4: onto it so you can enjoy the drugs.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Exactly. Yes, So it's the exact same thing.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I just had to have a prostate exam. I guess
- 3:31Speaker 4: that's what I meant, because I guess you can't really
- 3:33Speaker 4: have those feelings unless you're awake. And it didn't It
- 3:37Speaker 4: wasn't really for me.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You didn't like them.
- 3:41Speaker 4: No, I'm glad to have it done to make sure
- 3:44Speaker 4: my prostate is correct. But while it was happening, I
- 3:48Speaker 4: wasn't like, this is awesome.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Oh god, So no, comm then that's.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Checked that on his chart. He was like, did you come,
- 4:01Speaker 4: I said, not checked it on his chart? All right, Sorry,
- 4:07Speaker 4: We've already made Joelle cover her face twice and we
- 4:09Speaker 4: just started. I really did miss you, guys. It's been
- 4:12Speaker 4: too long an audience. I'm so sorry it took us
- 4:14Speaker 4: so long. Donald was making a new what's soon to
- 4:17Speaker 4: be I'm sure a giant comedic hit.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I totally hope. So we were in the middle of
- 4:23Speaker 3: we were in the middle of an episode when things
- 4:26Speaker 3: changed in Hollywood.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Yes, we are in a strike. For those who don't know,
- 4:30Speaker 4: the Writer's Guild has put their pencils, their figurative pencils
- 4:34Speaker 4: down until they get a fair deal from the studios,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and so nothing new can be written. People are still
- 4:42Speaker 4: doing shooting things that have been written, but that may
- 4:46Speaker 4: come to a halt if the Director's Guild goes on strike,
- 4:49Speaker 4: which will know eminently and then he need any moment,
- 4:52Speaker 4: right joelletly.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You guys, there isn't the negotiations is up today? Is
- 4:57Speaker 3: it today?
- 4:58Speaker 4: I don't know when it's up. I think they're at
- 5:00Speaker 4: the table now. What's interesting is that the writers aren't
- 5:03Speaker 4: even talking to the A m TP. Is that it
- 5:07Speaker 4: too well a belief whatever it is the Producers Association
- 5:11Speaker 4: of all the studios, it's not a producer associating, it's
- 5:13Speaker 4: all the studios collectively, because the writers aren't are on
- 5:17Speaker 4: strike and they're not even negotiating with with with this
- 5:21Speaker 4: with the streamers and the studios because they're now trying
- 5:24Speaker 4: to negotiate with the directors. And by the way, whether
- 5:26Speaker 4: directors get a deal or they don't sag. The Screen
- 5:29Speaker 4: Actors Guild is up in June.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 5:32Speaker 4: So this is going to be a waterfall.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And uh it is like the perfect storm, dude.
- 5:37Speaker 4: It's in the worst, in the worst, in the worst scenario.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Nothing's getting made this year. That's that's that involves Union Writers,
- 5:46Speaker 4: Directors and Actors d g.
- 5:49Speaker 5: A is at the table right now the d GA.
- 5:53Speaker 4: It'll really be interesting to see what happens with the
- 5:55Speaker 4: d G a UH. That will be a bell weather
- 5:58Speaker 4: for things to come, because you can still continue to
- 6:01Speaker 4: film things now if they're if they've been written. But
- 6:04Speaker 4: if the directors go on strike, you can't make anything right.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Well, didn't they what about the UH like Grips and
- 6:11Speaker 3: Electric and all of them, didn't they go?
- 6:13Speaker 4: They're not.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Isn't their contract up to their's.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Is coming up shortly and they're marching. A lot of
- 6:21Speaker 5: them are marching with the writers right now.
- 6:23Speaker 4: So I went that.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I went.
- 6:24Speaker 4: I went in and walk the picket line around Disney
- 6:29Speaker 4: with Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence and the and the
- 6:31Speaker 4: shrinking UH writing team. It was really cool. And by
- 6:36Speaker 4: the way, if you want to support people, you don't
- 6:38Speaker 4: need to be in these guilds to go march with
- 6:41Speaker 4: them and strike with them. There's no requirement if you
- 6:44Speaker 4: just want to be I saw someone posted something like, Hey,
- 6:46Speaker 4: I'm a writer, I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm not
- 6:48Speaker 4: in the guild yet. Am I allowed to? Of course,
- 6:50Speaker 4: you're everyone is welcome. They want to make as much
- 6:52Speaker 4: of a I should keep saying, Hey, I'm in the
- 6:55Speaker 4: Writers Guild. We want to make as much a ruckus
- 6:57Speaker 4: as as possible. And if you're confused about what this
- 7:00Speaker 4: is all about, I really want it in the shortest form.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I just wanted to say that obviously everything has changed
- 7:05Speaker 4: in the industry, but the way that writers are paid
- 7:08Speaker 4: has not been changed at all. And I wanted to
- 7:10Speaker 4: mention that this.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Actually, it's actually been it's actually it's actually gotten harder
- 7:15Speaker 3: for writers to get paid because of the way the
- 7:18Speaker 3: format has changed so rapidly. Actually within the last ten
- 7:22Speaker 3: to fifteen years.
- 7:24Speaker 4: The last writer's startup since the launch of Netflix, making
- 7:27Speaker 4: content that wasn't just sending out DVDs was really the
- 7:30Speaker 4: first big.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Right, But that if you remember, the last writers strike
- 7:34Speaker 3: was about DVDs actually and getting residuals on DVDs. What's
- 7:40Speaker 3: interesting to me is this, And I'm not trying to
- 7:44Speaker 3: be political, I'm not trying to to start up.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Speak your mind, friend, this is your podcast.
- 7:50Speaker 3: But look, okay, So when the DVD thing was coming up,
- 7:56Speaker 3: the studios knew that in a few years the DVD
- 8:01Speaker 3: would be the way of the DODO and nobody would
- 8:04Speaker 3: be using DVDs anymore, right, But they still held out
- 8:08Speaker 3: for ninety days, dude, for ninety days.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Well, in a lot of ways, you know, the cynics
- 8:15Speaker 4: would say, in a lot of ways, they have nothing
- 8:16Speaker 4: to lose, They have plenty of content. They can just
- 8:20Speaker 4: you know, force the writers to wait it out. And
- 8:26Speaker 4: I don't know, it's really a big mess. It's not
- 8:27Speaker 4: an easy solft. I wanted to recommend a podcast that
- 8:30Speaker 4: really explains it very well if you're curious. It's the
- 8:33Speaker 4: New York Times podcast The Daily, which is just a
- 8:37Speaker 4: wonderful podcast. But I even I, who know a lot,
- 8:42Speaker 4: because basically, Bill, who's mister know Everything, explained it to
- 8:46Speaker 4: me very well. But even this was clear than Bill.
- 8:50Speaker 4: It's the title. It was six days ago on The Daily.
- 8:52Speaker 4: It's called how Streaming Hurt Hollywood Writers, And it really
- 8:56Speaker 4: breaks down the whole strike and the whole conundrum and
- 8:59Speaker 4: quagmire of it all if you're curious as to what's
- 9:02Speaker 4: going on. And also I want to just say, don't
- 9:04Speaker 4: conflate this strike when you think of celebrity, famous writers
- 9:08Speaker 4: like Bill and Shonda Rhymes and JJ Abrams. This is
- 9:11Speaker 4: not about those people. This is about the young people
- 9:14Speaker 4: coming up and people who live check to check on
- 9:17Speaker 4: being a writer, and it certainly it's certainly about the
- 9:21Speaker 4: next wave of writers and whether this will be a
- 9:24Speaker 4: viable career path where someone can make a decent living
- 9:28Speaker 4: wage doing it, you know, And let you know, Bill
- 9:31Speaker 4: said it in a really good way. He goes, unless
- 9:33Speaker 4: you've got rich parents, they're going to help you out,
- 9:36Speaker 4: this won't be a viable career path for young writers
- 9:38Speaker 4: at all. Right, And I think you got to think
- 9:41Speaker 4: of it like that, right, Joelle.
- 9:43Speaker 5: One hundred percent. I mean, we've already seen this sort
- 9:45Speaker 5: of happen in the entertainment writing space. So if you
- 9:49Speaker 5: give your magazine or newspapers, et cetera, if you look
- 9:52Speaker 5: into a lot of the people who are working and
- 9:54Speaker 5: have made a career, a lot of them either had
- 9:56Speaker 5: partners who were willing to support them through lean time
- 9:59Speaker 5: so they can sue a career, or were born into
- 10:02Speaker 5: wealth and had enough money that you know, they could
- 10:04Speaker 5: pursue their passion. And it really sucks if you're born
- 10:07Speaker 5: outside of that circle and this is your passion and
- 10:09Speaker 5: your drive, and you have the talent and you just
- 10:11Speaker 5: can't do enough to make you know, it's expensive to
- 10:14Speaker 5: live in la And I think a lot of people
- 10:16Speaker 5: when they see the numbers, they're like, oh, that's so
- 10:18Speaker 5: much money. I could you know, live very well off that.
- 10:20Speaker 5: And you have to got to look at real estate
- 10:22Speaker 5: out here, got to look at what groceries cost.
- 10:25Speaker 4: It's it's also just like being just like being an actor,
- 10:28Speaker 4: a starting out actor, not someone's who's been successful. Everything
- 10:32Speaker 4: is in fits and spurts. So you might make a
- 10:34Speaker 4: you might make a big check because you sold a script,
- 10:37Speaker 4: but then that's gonna last. That's gonna last to you
- 10:39Speaker 4: a year.
- 10:41Speaker 3: And so well, what was great about the old days
- 10:44Speaker 3: was if you did have a show on the air.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Let's say you had a show that ran for two
- 10:49Speaker 3: years or three years and it's sold into syndication, you
- 10:52Speaker 3: would get residuals on the show. Now, because of streaming,
- 10:56Speaker 3: there's no such thing as resi. So you you get
- 11:00Speaker 3: paid up front, and so whatever it is that you
- 11:04Speaker 3: get paid upfront has to last after the show is gone,
- 11:09Speaker 3: when you're swimming back out into the ocean trying to
- 11:12Speaker 3: catch that next wave.
- 11:13Speaker 4: We were when we were coming up on Scrubs, the
- 11:16Speaker 4: television show. It would then when you had a hit show,
- 11:20Speaker 4: like we were lucky enough to be a part of it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: You would then get syndicated. So when you saw it
- 11:24Speaker 4: in reruns, remember reruns on like actual television, that was
- 11:29Speaker 4: that was extra residual money for for the cast. That
- 11:33Speaker 4: doesn't exist anymore for writers or actors.
- 11:38Speaker 3: So what if you only had one show ever in
- 11:40Speaker 3: your life, one show, and it was a span of
- 11:43Speaker 3: three years, and let's say you didn't see the incoming
- 11:47Speaker 3: you know what I mean, that at least helped out. Okay,
- 11:51Speaker 3: all right, look next year when the show runs for
- 11:54Speaker 3: wherever it is on w p i X in New York,
- 11:58Speaker 3: I know, I got a little bit of money coming
- 11:59Speaker 3: my way while I hustle and try to make it
- 12:01Speaker 3: to the next thing. Right now, it's like, once the
- 12:04Speaker 3: show is over, you have to get another job in
- 12:08Speaker 3: order to sustain whatever it is your living space is,
- 12:11Speaker 3: however it is you're living.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 4: The other problem on the studio side is that it's
- 12:15Speaker 4: not really I mean, both Daniel and Joel please correct
- 12:19Speaker 4: me if you know more about this than I do.
- 12:21Speaker 4: The streamers seem to be out of humans. I mean
- 12:24Speaker 4: they anyone who's going to sign up for their product
- 12:28Speaker 4: has kind of signed up.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 5: My understanding is that a couple of things have happened.
- 12:34Speaker 5: So one, everybody has a streaming service now and so
- 12:37Speaker 5: it's no longer the like, you know, oh I have
- 12:39Speaker 5: Netflix in Hulu and that was enough and I'll pay
- 12:41Speaker 5: my like twenty bucks a month or whatever. And so
- 12:43Speaker 5: there's been a lot of like people dropping out of
- 12:46Speaker 5: one to join the other, or they're only coming on
- 12:47Speaker 5: to watch that one show they really love and then leaving,
- 12:50Speaker 5: and so it definitely seems like they've sort of there's
- 12:53Speaker 5: not much more to offer. He knows exactly what you're
- 12:56Speaker 5: getting out of streaming service. You know what shows, you
- 12:58Speaker 5: know what their brand is, and so yeah, there's and
- 13:01Speaker 5: you know, they didn't build in a revenue source to
- 13:04Speaker 5: keep growing, unfortunately, and so that's been a real struggle
- 13:07Speaker 5: for them. And while why you'll definitely see more ads
- 13:09Speaker 5: coming in, Like I think, yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Someone told me that Wholo's showing ads even if you
- 13:13Speaker 4: have a subscription. Someone told me, yeah, you got I
- 13:18Speaker 4: have like what I do too. But this person must
- 13:21Speaker 4: have had had a plan, were they.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Yeah, there's like a third one in between, and I
- 13:24Speaker 5: know Hulu and Disney just announced they're going to go
- 13:27Speaker 5: into one one service by the emerging Yeah, what.
- 13:30Speaker 4: About HBO MAX calling themselves Max is like the great brand?
- 13:36Speaker 4: Why do you ship that out of the title?
- 13:37Speaker 3: I don't want to Max and Max is associated with Cinemax,
- 13:41Speaker 3: which is associated with Skinemax, which is also like Max.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Come on, like for real, HBO was straight up like
- 13:50Speaker 3: that was forever, that was forever Home Box Office, yo'
- 13:56Speaker 3: they have.
- 13:58Speaker 4: I heard the reason I heard the grapevine was that
- 14:02Speaker 4: they want to expand and be for all ages and
- 14:05Speaker 4: that John Q. Citizen thinks of HBO as an adult brand.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Right, which is fair. I mean, they got Harry Potter,
- 14:13Speaker 5: they have Sesame Street. I still think it's foolish. If
- 14:17Speaker 5: you had wanted to find a space, you have Discovery
- 14:20Speaker 5: right there. Yeah, Discovery Kids, which is a channel A
- 14:22Speaker 5: lot of children are familiar with it. If they're not,
- 14:24Speaker 5: you can absolutely branch it out.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Aren't those all Disney products? Now?
- 14:27Speaker 4: They're Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Oh wow, yeah, so it's Warner Brother's Discovery now, and
- 14:32Speaker 5: so they have like Geral Discovery right everything. You have
- 14:35Speaker 5: an endless like space, and you could have left the
- 14:37Speaker 5: thing that was working well because as a person who
- 14:40Speaker 5: likes HBO, you know there's many of us. It's weird
- 14:42Speaker 5: to be like, okay and now they'll be kids. Content
- 14:44Speaker 5: makes me that's a confusing landscape to try to navigate
- 14:47Speaker 5: when you already have something clean that was working.
- 14:49Speaker 4: That they have all the testing and they have all
- 14:51Speaker 4: the data. But to me, it's like you losing your
- 14:55Speaker 4: like legacy amazing.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but you got to go after all of the money, man,
- 14:58Speaker 3: I mean, let's let's keep it one high. It really is.
- 15:01Speaker 3: At the end of the day, it is all about
- 15:03Speaker 3: the money. The reason why they're picketing outside of Disney,
- 15:05Speaker 3: the reason why you got on that line. It's all
- 15:07Speaker 3: about the money. And the only way you can make
- 15:10Speaker 3: more money is if you can find more subscribers, and
- 15:12Speaker 3: so you gotta Now.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I get it, Like I said, this is this decision
- 15:17Speaker 4: wasn't made outside of nine thousand test audiences. I'm sure,
- 15:23Speaker 4: I just think. But I'm sure you thought, why would
- 15:25Speaker 4: you get rid of the name we all grew up on?
- 15:27Speaker 3: Like I thought that was crazy too, But I get
- 15:29Speaker 3: I mean, I totally get it, but I thought I couldn't.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I just couldn't believe they chose Max, Like, isn't there
- 15:35Speaker 3: another version of HBO that could you know what I
- 15:37Speaker 3: mean like there was HBO Go, there was HBO Max, there.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Was h went Away, HBO Go, HBO Gone.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I'm the HBO Gone. That's funny.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yah.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I like the HBO brand. I think he's a great brand.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I love their shows. I think they make great shows.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yeah, if you really think about it, if you really
- 16:02Speaker 3: think about it, in order to launch a successful streaming service,
- 16:07Speaker 3: you have to have a good show. You know, Disney
- 16:10Speaker 3: had the Mandalorian. I don't know what HBOS was. Uh.
- 16:14Speaker 5: If you're the back half of Dragons to launch games
- 16:18Speaker 5: right right?
- 16:21Speaker 3: Apple Plus had all of those shows that signed Oprah. Right,
- 16:25Speaker 3: you have to have something great?
- 16:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Apple take.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Off right now that you change your name to Max,
- 16:32Speaker 3: what is your launching what's your launching platform? Now? What's
- 16:36Speaker 3: it gonna be?
- 16:37Speaker 5: Series?
- 16:37Speaker 4: They they'll have everything. I mean it's Warner Brothers and
- 16:41Speaker 4: I mean they're gonna have extraordinary stuff. I just don't
- 16:43Speaker 4: understand the name change, but I think we understand it
- 16:45Speaker 4: on paper. It's just we grew up with HBO.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Yeah, man, I remember the music did it?
- 17:02Speaker 4: Sometimes?
- 17:03Speaker 3: The long opening was it?
- 17:06Speaker 4: You never knew when they were going to drop the
- 17:07Speaker 4: long open open, right, But the long.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Opening was stop motion animation, too amazing, dropped through the
- 17:13Speaker 3: freaking whole Nabors.
- 17:14Speaker 4: For those of you listening who are who are too young,
- 17:16Speaker 4: go I'm sure it's on YouTube. Go up, look the law.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I don't know what it would be under, like the
- 17:20Speaker 4: old school long HBO opening, and you never knew when
- 17:25Speaker 4: you chose something. You just you didn't actually didn't choose.
- 17:27Speaker 4: It was just on. When it was on, you didn't
- 17:29Speaker 4: know if you were gonna get short or long. But
- 17:31Speaker 4: when it was long, like, oh, this must be good,
- 17:33Speaker 4: this must be a banger.
- 17:34Speaker 3: This is gonna.
- 17:37Speaker 4: They chose.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Long open. It's the premiere.
- 17:40Speaker 4: It's the premiere premiere.
- 17:43Speaker 3: It's premiere in the night on HBO.
- 17:46Speaker 4: You guys watching Succession.
- 17:48Speaker 3: My wife loves it.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We just started. Stephanie and I are fire.
- 17:53Speaker 3: That opening, that opening is fire. That fire is.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Mitchell's who wrote the theme? Mm that theme is It's
- 18:03Speaker 4: so good. I want to I want to listen to
- 18:06Speaker 4: on a remix with like.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I was sitting there just go like this yo, yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 3: nig us kick it like all day long.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I really think that someone needs to put a beat
- 18:19Speaker 4: on that on that theme song because it's fire.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I think.
- 18:25Speaker 1: That that's out there on that's go on TikTok hip
- 18:28Speaker 1: hop Succession.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Oh really, I'm sure, but.
- 18:31Speaker 5: You know, fans, if you want to send us your
- 18:33Speaker 5: remix versions.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Fans, please send us your Succession theme song remixes. I
- 18:39Speaker 4: don't go to the clurb, but if I was at
- 18:41Speaker 4: the clurb and that came on, I'd scream with you
- 18:44Speaker 4: DONALDA check you.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Off before we go too far off the strike. Can
- 18:50Speaker 5: I just drop? Uh? There's something called the Entertainment Community
- 18:53Speaker 5: Fund used to be known as the Actors Fund. If
- 18:57Speaker 5: you want to support writers that are striking, but you
- 19:00Speaker 5: don't live in LA and can't join the picket line,
- 19:02Speaker 5: you can donate money here. Just go drop down TV
- 19:05Speaker 5: and film. They help out of work folks, help folks
- 19:07Speaker 5: buy groceries. Is a really beautiful organization. And also drop
- 19:10Speaker 5: the link in the show notes.
- 19:14Speaker 4: That's great.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, before you say what you're gonna say, Zach,
- 19:17Speaker 3: I just want to say real quick, I'm sorry to
- 19:19Speaker 3: cut you off. First of all, sorry, very sorry for that,
- 19:22Speaker 3: but you're absolutely right, Joelle. You know, people see actors
- 19:26Speaker 3: on television and it's a very glamorous job, and it
- 19:28Speaker 3: seems like it should pay the bills and pay for
- 19:32Speaker 3: everyone to live. But at the end of the day,
- 19:35Speaker 3: there are a lot of actors that are on your
- 19:36Speaker 3: favorite shows that still kind of live. Check to check,
- 19:41Speaker 3: you understand, and so and and and and it's I
- 19:45Speaker 3: know it's hard to imagine that, and I know it's
- 19:47Speaker 3: hard to to it's hard to fathom and understand that.
- 19:51Speaker 3: But this isn't This is a reality. And it's the
- 19:54Speaker 3: same thing with writers, and it's the same thing with directors.
- 19:58Speaker 4: There's a guy on I'm gonna interrupt you back. There
- 20:01Speaker 4: was a guy who's a writer on The Bear and
- 20:02Speaker 4: he wrote a tweet thread that was like, I was
- 20:06Speaker 4: nominated for writing The Bear and I was applying and
- 20:13Speaker 4: rejected from a job at Target.
- 20:15Speaker 5: That's real, child, man, this is negative account balance. When
- 20:20Speaker 5: he accepted his.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Award, yeah that's what he said.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that's real talk. This is but people don't know
- 20:26Speaker 3: this because you look at television and you think that's
- 20:29Speaker 3: it's glamorous. You know, there's lights.
- 20:31Speaker 4: I think what you're trying to say, and I agree with,
- 20:34Speaker 4: is that please don't conflate the stars you know, and
- 20:37Speaker 4: the super successful people you know with these people who
- 20:40Speaker 4: are striking even though everyone's in the same guild. This
- 20:44Speaker 4: is about the future of these professions being a viable
- 20:47Speaker 4: option for creative people. And also if you live in
- 20:51Speaker 4: places where they shoot, you go join. You can go
- 20:54Speaker 4: support these people, even if you want to bring them
- 20:56Speaker 4: some pizzas or you want to go join the picket line.
- 20:59Speaker 4: You might even be your future partner. Obviously, New York
- 21:03Speaker 4: l A. Atlanta is where most of it's happening.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Bottled water is a big one because they can bring
- 21:09Speaker 1: it water next day, bring bottled water. It's hot out there,
- 21:11Speaker 1: people are walking. They need that obviously, haunt your horns
- 21:14Speaker 1: and support.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I want where you're going, where you go. I'm going
- 21:19Speaker 3: to the picket line for.
- 21:20Speaker 4: What they did a singles one by the way.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Zack told me I might, I might meet my.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Yeah by the way by the way. And if you
- 21:26Speaker 4: go there, you tell them that Zach and Donald's and
- 21:28Speaker 4: Joel and Daniell sent you. By the way they did.
- 21:30Speaker 4: They did. This is how they're trying to make sure
- 21:32Speaker 4: everyone goes. You suppose you're required to go, but they
- 21:34Speaker 4: try and give you incentives. So they said there's a
- 21:37Speaker 4: singles one at Universal Studios, and it's like it's like
- 21:41Speaker 4: a singles picket line.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Walk around all day? Great first date.
- 21:47Speaker 4: No, I just thought it was a funny concept, like
- 21:50Speaker 4: they're just trying to make to make everyone turn up.
- 21:52Speaker 4: They're like, okay, Wednesday at noon at Universal Lot is
- 21:56Speaker 4: the singles picket line.
- 21:58Speaker 3: If you if you listen, man, if you're a writer
- 22:02Speaker 3: and you're just in the room all day.
- 22:04Speaker 4: No, if you're gonna be, if you're gonna be, if
- 22:06Speaker 4: you're gonna be strolling around in front of gates trying
- 22:09Speaker 4: to stop trucks from going in, you might as well
- 22:11Speaker 4: meet the love of your life.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Or the love of the night. WU tak forever night.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I never heard you make that up.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Just now, baby, that's fun.
- 22:23Speaker 4: That's good, that's funny. Donald, that's a good lyric for
- 22:26Speaker 4: a song. You want to be the love of my life,
- 22:28Speaker 4: but the love of the night.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Bars.
- 22:31Speaker 4: I'm so happy to be back on my computer. I
- 22:35Speaker 4: have to thank Daniel who told me I had to
- 22:38Speaker 4: put my computer down. I'm sorry you guys. Do you
- 22:43Speaker 4: guys feel this with it? Your computer? You're so loyal
- 22:45Speaker 4: to it, Like so much has happened, so much life
- 22:47Speaker 4: is happening. I wrote a good person on it. I've
- 22:50Speaker 4: written so many other things on it. I've done the
- 22:53Speaker 4: entire podcast on it. And my assistant told me that
- 22:56Speaker 4: the computer repairment and said that it has to go.
- 22:58Speaker 4: And I was like, no, I'm asking Daniel. Daniel knows
- 23:02Speaker 4: everything about computers, and I'm gonna call Daniel. We are
- 23:05Speaker 4: not putting this down. And my assistant inamed Daniel talks
- 23:09Speaker 4: and he gave them all the all the information, and
- 23:10Speaker 4: Daniel texts me he's like, yo, dude, that computer from
- 23:13Speaker 4: twenty fifteen, it's gotta go.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Long ago.
- 23:17Speaker 1: No, yes, in computer years.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Unfortunately it is okay, but this is what I don't understand.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Don't got to put it down. Computers.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I've seen people with older laptops, older laptops that's newer.
- 23:31Speaker 4: No, but I can't get Daniel, I can't get the
- 23:34Speaker 4: latest operating system because they won't.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It goes like this, As your software gets newer, its
- 23:40Speaker 1: ability to run on old hardware gets worse. So it's
- 23:44Speaker 1: like it demands more and your computer has less, and
- 23:46Speaker 1: it just like becomes this thing where it's like it's like, yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: upgrade to the new operating system and it's just making
- 23:51Speaker 1: your computer run slower. Okay, So these are my last
- 23:55Speaker 1: three computers right here. I keep them forever, never getting
- 23:58Speaker 1: rid of the data he's got, by the way, audience.
- 24:00Speaker 4: He's holding like drives that are the size of playing cards.
- 24:03Speaker 4: I don't know how to do that, Danel, So I
- 24:05Speaker 4: just keep the whole computer.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Somewhere same here. Yes, can you please come over and
- 24:12Speaker 3: pull them out of all of my laptops.
- 24:14Speaker 4: I feel like I feel like it's like remember short
- 24:18Speaker 4: Circuit Donald. I feel like it's number five and I'm
- 24:20Speaker 4: trying to live. Yeah, I feel like I'm trying to
- 24:22Speaker 4: kill number five.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Johnny five is a lie.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Five is a lie.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Johnny five is a line? Is a lie? It's like,
- 24:35Speaker 3: that's like the it was the freaking roboty t.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it was roboty T. Hey guys were guys and gals.
- 24:42Speaker 4: We're doing our our very first live show in Seattle
- 24:46Speaker 4: on the one almost exactly a month. It's almost sold out.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I mean all of the I think all of the
- 24:55Speaker 4: assigned seats whatever they call it, are sold out already.
- 24:58Speaker 4: There is a general admission area that still has some
- 25:01Speaker 4: tickets left, so please come if you're there.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Ain't no party like a general admission party. That's where
- 25:07Speaker 3: the real stuff happens. Yeah, that's where they be cooking
- 25:10Speaker 3: the sausage.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that's where you can you could probably you could
- 25:13Speaker 4: probably work on someone in the general mission.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Okay, not only not only not only that, you could barbecue.
- 25:23Speaker 4: And we don't want you. We don't want you.
- 25:25Speaker 1: We don't think the thrilling. It's not a tailgate, it's
- 25:29Speaker 1: not no we forgiveness than as week.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Yeah, well we don't want you. We don't want people.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Bring a habachies please. It's it is a show.
- 25:36Speaker 3: It's get hungry.
- 25:38Speaker 4: It's going to be a really good show. The four
- 25:41Speaker 4: of us are going to be there. There's lots of
- 25:42Speaker 4: surprises planned.
- 25:44Speaker 3: There are. I'm surprised that you said there are.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Well I'm gonna tell you what some of the surprises, Daniel.
- 25:49Speaker 4: You can bleep them.
- 25:50Speaker 5: I will.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'm curious to we all want to know.
- 25:53Speaker 4: All right, Well, Dan will bleep this. The first surprise
- 25:55Speaker 4: is that.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Just how are you going to bleep that Outnel? Leave
- 26:03Speaker 3: that out? Daniel?
- 26:03Speaker 4: One long, deep, one long beep.
- 26:07Speaker 3: The first one is.
- 26:12Speaker 5: The second one.
- 26:13Speaker 4: The second one isn't confirmed. Do you want me to
- 26:17Speaker 4: tell you? But Daniel, I have to keep it of course.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Is that?
- 26:20Speaker 5: Uh, Oh my god, what a wonderful thing that could
- 26:28Speaker 5: happen as surprise.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I need to know this is all just potential, So
- 26:33Speaker 4: don't get too excited.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Oh okay, I'm gonna tamper it down.
- 26:37Speaker 4: And then.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Right now I'm excited and I wanted to happen.
- 26:47Speaker 3: If that happens, this would be oh my gosh.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Anyway, the point is audience, it's gonna be fun. And obviously,
- 26:54Speaker 4: if this works and we feel like we did a
- 26:56Speaker 4: good job and the audience is happy, we're brainstorming about
- 27:00Speaker 4: doing more of them. Right, we're brainstorming.
- 27:02Speaker 3: How about this? We're brainstorming about the possibilities of what
- 27:06Speaker 3: would come next? How about that?
- 27:08Speaker 4: Where do you want to go?
- 27:12Speaker 3: I have always wanted to take the podcast to Australia.
- 27:15Speaker 4: I know we haven't in Australia.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I've always wanted to do that ever since always
- 27:22Speaker 3: dream Boy went on that television show with the with
- 27:26Speaker 3: the fake doctor's real friends Onesie with the bald head.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Oh Mitch, yeah, when Mitch, Yeah, Life's of Mitchy Mitch.
- 27:38Speaker 3: I knew they'n and there. We need to go to Australia.
- 27:40Speaker 4: It could be a lot of fun. But we'll start
- 27:42Speaker 4: with the United States of America because that's easiest. I
- 27:44Speaker 4: don't think the tour bus with our faces on the
- 27:46Speaker 4: side is going to be doable.
- 27:49Speaker 3: But what about the UK? Can? Can?
- 27:53Speaker 4: That's all possible because you know what.
- 27:55Speaker 3: My favorite cities are. I have two favorite cities. London, Yeah, hm,
- 28:00Speaker 3: it's great city. Toronto, that's one of my favorite cities. Donald,
- 28:06Speaker 3: We'll meet some Toronto.
- 28:08Speaker 4: The truth is is that we elarny know it's a
- 28:11Speaker 4: draw because it's close to being sold out and we're
- 28:14Speaker 4: a month and we're a month out, and hopefully people
- 28:18Speaker 4: in Seattle hearing that there's still a few tickets left
- 28:20Speaker 4: will sell it out when they hear this on Tuesday.
- 28:22Speaker 3: But what if you live in New York, would you
- 28:24Speaker 3: travel all the way to Seattle to see it?
- 28:26Speaker 4: There are people traveling. I've seen people right on my
- 28:28Speaker 4: socials people that are traveling.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I've gotten some Instagram dms.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Have you gotten anybody from like the UK that was like, yo,
- 28:35Speaker 3: fuck it, I'm.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Going No, But I had no.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Imagine what are you getting your visa for? I need
- 28:42Speaker 3: to go see.
- 28:44Speaker 5: A question we asked during the shows, like who figure
- 28:46Speaker 5: out who came from furthest away that.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Would be how we should do that. By the way
- 28:50Speaker 4: we're doing it, We're gonna do a Q and A
- 28:52Speaker 4: as part of it. So uh, those of you who
- 28:54Speaker 4: are coming, think of good questions. It's gonna be fun
- 28:58Speaker 4: and it will always be fun because it's our first
- 29:00Speaker 4: time doing this, and I just think it's gonna We're
- 29:03Speaker 4: gonna have a blast. Donald and I. I've never done
- 29:06Speaker 4: stand up and doing this show is kind of like
- 29:09Speaker 4: our chance to do our own. It's the closest thing
- 29:13Speaker 4: Donald and I are going to get to being a
- 29:15Speaker 4: stand up comedian. And we're doing the musical episode. Some
- 29:19Speaker 4: of you asked, why do it again, because we don't
- 29:21Speaker 4: want to invite eighteen hundred people to a theater and
- 29:25Speaker 4: and uh and do like just whatever episode happens to
- 29:28Speaker 4: come up. We want to do one of the great episodes,
- 29:30Speaker 4: which we both love. And also there's a chance we
- 29:34Speaker 4: might sing a tune or two that you can be unbelieved.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Donald, Yeah, there's a there's a there's a there's a
- 29:40Speaker 3: chance that what Zach said could happen.
- 29:45Speaker 4: The facts about.
- 29:46Speaker 3: No, no, you can't do it now, I'm just I'm
- 29:50Speaker 3: just warming up. You can't do it now?
- 29:52Speaker 4: All right, let's get into the show. Let's I'll kind of.
- 29:54Speaker 6: Say we made about a bunch of said he's a stormy.
- 30:10Speaker 3: So ya.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Ya.
- 30:19Speaker 1: It's so good to be back. You honored me.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I really just missed you, guys.
- 30:25Speaker 3: It's been a long time.
- 30:26Speaker 4: It has been so long Donald you were doing your show.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Do you know how long it's been.
- 30:31Speaker 4: We did two shows without you. You probably didn't listen
- 30:33Speaker 4: to them, but we did two shows without you.
- 30:36Speaker 3: About a good person.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Yeah. We did a one with Florence Pugh, the legendary actress,
- 30:41Speaker 4: and we did one with my therapist, doctor Fader, who.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Was, uh holy you got episodes.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a good one. They were both.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Doctor Fader was a legend.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Doctor Fader was great. Right, we should have him back Florence.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Of course he's not the Penis doctor though, right.
- 30:54Speaker 4: No, I do need doctor Penis back, though, Joelle, can
- 30:57Speaker 4: you book him? I have some penis questions?
- 31:00Speaker 5: Have Penis?
- 31:00Speaker 3: Really?
- 31:00Speaker 4: I have prostate questions because uh, just get an expert
- 31:04Speaker 4: on his book, Doctor Penis, and say, just mentioned to
- 31:07Speaker 4: doctor Penis that the area is going to be well,
- 31:10Speaker 4: all areas, but but the prostate. We're going to focus
- 31:13Speaker 4: on the prostate.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Focusing on the prostate, an area that he made not
- 31:17Speaker 1: be expert.
- 31:18Speaker 4: You know, he is urologists. That's the prostates, their thing,
- 31:22Speaker 4: is it?
- 31:23Speaker 3: I thought it was only the shaft that was their thing.
- 31:25Speaker 4: No, you think their job stops at the shaft?
- 31:28Speaker 3: I thought, doctor, I thought, just right, that's right. I thought.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I thought there was a young doctor, and then there
- 31:34Speaker 3: was a tip doctor. Then there was a big ball.
- 31:39Speaker 1: A cubist mons doctor, my job, My job was a doctor.
- 31:43Speaker 4: All I do is I just do tank. That would
- 31:46Speaker 4: be a boring job. It's not enough taints enough work.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Wow.
- 31:53Speaker 4: The doctor was just all I do is shaft. When
- 31:56Speaker 4: second you get to pubist mons balls, I'm out.
- 32:00Speaker 3: What about tip? No, just shaft.
- 32:03Speaker 4: I once had to have a camera. Did I say,
- 32:05Speaker 4: this stuck up my down my shaft?
- 32:08Speaker 1: How was that?
- 32:09Speaker 4: And the door? The doctor said? The doctor said, I
- 32:12Speaker 4: know the tip. I was like, what about the rest?
- 32:16Speaker 4: It's horrible, And I'm like, oh my gosh, I don't
- 32:20Speaker 4: recommend it. It's horrible. Imagine a camera, and this is
- 32:23Speaker 4: not a small camera. This was like a VHS camcord.
- 32:32Speaker 1: It's like they're filming a nineties music video.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Say still talking about your willis Sorr.
- 32:37Speaker 3: It's like a whole group of people that are like,
- 32:39Speaker 3: what the fuck is a VHS?
- 32:42Speaker 4: VHS is so large? He said, I don't know our
- 32:44Speaker 4: audience is that they.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Know there are people that don't know what a fucking
- 32:48Speaker 3: floppy disc is.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I know these two didn't these two all right?
- 32:52Speaker 3: All right?
- 32:53Speaker 1: I really got dragged for that on Twitter because I
- 32:55Speaker 1: posted a picture. They're like, Daniel, you didn't know what
- 32:57Speaker 1: that was.
- 32:57Speaker 4: I was like, your mister computer guy, bro, I know
- 33:02Speaker 4: what it is.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I just never used them alas, I'll take my dragging.
- 33:06Speaker 1: That's fine, all right, take it.
- 33:08Speaker 4: You can drag down when the Techi computer guy doesn't
- 33:10Speaker 4: know what a floppy all right? This was written and
- 33:22Speaker 4: directed by Bill Lawrence, and it's called my ABC's and
- 33:26Speaker 4: it's the It's the Sesame Street episode of Scrubs.
- 33:30Speaker 5: So good.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Now I have a question I didn't get a chance
- 33:34Speaker 3: to open.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I didn't even open Scrubs Wiki, so I gotta open it.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Are there are two versions of this? Is there? The
- 33:39Speaker 3: Sesame Street and then the Muppet version? Did we have
- 33:42Speaker 3: one where Piggy and Kermit and Fozzy were on the show? Also?
- 33:48Speaker 4: I think that was a special we did. I think
- 33:50Speaker 4: we did, like as we did a Muppets movie. We
- 33:53Speaker 4: did cameos in a Muppets movie. Is that right?
- 33:57Speaker 3: What it was? I wasn't in that.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you were.
- 34:00Speaker 3: All of you guys were except for me.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Why didn't you do it? You don't like them?
- 34:03Speaker 3: Now? I think I was doing a movie at the
- 34:05Speaker 3: time or some shit.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Oh. I think we got asked to do it and
- 34:08Speaker 4: it was, you know, an ABC sort of crossover thing. Maybe.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Okay, so this is but this is the Sesame Street episode.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Yes here, I'm pulling up scrubs wikie for some from data.
- 34:18Speaker 4: This is episode five of season eight. It aired on
- 34:23Speaker 4: January twenty seventh, two thousand and nine, and it has
- 34:30Speaker 4: all the interns. Azz plays a very big part in
- 34:33Speaker 4: this episode. Oh, Josh Rayden sings the acoustic can you
- 34:39Speaker 4: tell me how to get to Sesame Street?
- 34:41Speaker 3: He sings the melancholic version of it will kick you
- 34:45Speaker 3: in your heart?
- 34:45Speaker 5: Oh my god, it was.
- 34:48Speaker 3: It's like I lost old ass motherfucker who wants to
- 34:53Speaker 3: just be a kid again. Yes, can tell me how again?
- 35:00Speaker 4: Okay? Here it is Donald in two thousand and two
- 35:04Speaker 4: most most but not Donald Faison of the main Scrubs
- 35:08Speaker 4: cast appeared as their Scrubs characters in quote, it's a
- 35:11Speaker 4: very merry Muppet Christmas movie.
- 35:16Speaker 3: How come THEYDA and asked Black Scrubs to be in that?
- 35:18Speaker 4: Oh my yuess, well it sounds like you were doing
- 35:20Speaker 4: a movie.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Oh, we'll see two thousand and what two thousand and two? Yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 3: let me look that up.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Zach Braff and Donald Faison appeared in episodes of Sesame Street.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Faison held a recurring role in the early nineties I did,
- 35:36Speaker 4: and Braff appeared in a twenty fifteen episode explaining the
- 35:40Speaker 4: word anxiety. It's very funny. If you haven't seen it,
- 35:43Speaker 4: go on the youtubes and look up my name Anxiety
- 35:47Speaker 4: and Sesame Street.
- 35:49Speaker 3: This episode was It had some moments. I don't think
- 35:53Speaker 3: anyone has ever seen the Muppets this way before. Yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 3: we want they were one well other than Oscar to
- 36:03Speaker 3: Grouch who was in the trash. Can I mean that
- 36:06Speaker 3: joke about I know what's wrong? I think I figured
- 36:08Speaker 3: out what's wrong with you. Give it to me straight, Doc,
- 36:12Speaker 3: you gotta hand up you.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Go inside of you. Well, this makes sense. This bit
- 36:19Speaker 4: of trivia makes sense because I was confused about the
- 36:22Speaker 4: story sequencing because this felt like it was going back
- 36:28Speaker 4: a little bit, and.
- 36:29Speaker 3: This felt like it was the first episode as.
- 36:31Speaker 4: It does Donald. And also there's a pun in the
- 36:34Speaker 4: my ABC's because this is the first year we were
- 36:36Speaker 4: on ABC, so that was my ABC's, but also the
- 36:41Speaker 4: pun being its sesame street. But here we go. This
- 36:44Speaker 4: episode was originally planned to be the first episode of
- 36:47Speaker 4: season eight, which explains some inconsistencies in the story, such
- 36:51Speaker 4: as JD being surprised that Denise's abrupt bedside manner or
- 36:55Speaker 4: her being or her being surprised at being called Joe
- 36:59Speaker 4: despite that nickname already having been used, and everyone in
- 37:02Speaker 4: the hospital commenting on JD's new beard. In addition, JD.
- 37:08Speaker 3: A through story through the whole episode.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Yeah chicks digging his beard making more sense as he's
- 37:13Speaker 4: meant to be dating Elliott again at this point. That
- 37:16Speaker 4: was I was confused by all that, But this is
- 37:18Speaker 4: this is.
- 37:19Speaker 3: It's it's well, it's not out of order. It's the
- 37:22Speaker 3: order that they decided to air the show. You know,
- 37:25Speaker 3: that really fucks up the show sometimes, you know what
- 37:27Speaker 3: I mean? I know that I know that Bill was
- 37:29Speaker 3: saying that Scrubs. He tried to make it So Scrubs
- 37:34Speaker 3: was one of those shows where you could tune in
- 37:36Speaker 3: whenever you wanted to, and it didn't you didn't have
- 37:39Speaker 3: to follow any storyline. If you tuned in, you could
- 37:43Speaker 3: easily be caught up in it right because there was
- 37:45Speaker 3: no linear story line through the whole thing. And I
- 37:49Speaker 3: feel like with certain seasons, especially like this season and
- 37:54Speaker 3: you know, the season that Keith and Elliott break up
- 37:57Speaker 3: and everything like that, when it was out of order,
- 37:59Speaker 3: it kind of fox up the rhythm of how you want,
- 38:02Speaker 3: you know what I mean? And so this definitely felt
- 38:05Speaker 3: really weird. It was like, why is everybody so caught
- 38:08Speaker 3: up on his beard? I just remember the whole Joe
- 38:11Speaker 3: sequence coming this way, starting this way, and then us
- 38:14Speaker 3: going into Yeah, it's weird.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Because it's already been discussed, like we've seen we've seen
- 38:19Speaker 4: this Joe is Cold thing before. It's weird.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Wait, did you hit record on your quick Time? Donald?
- 38:27Speaker 3: No?
- 38:28Speaker 4: Did you hit record?
- 38:29Speaker 3: No?
- 38:30Speaker 1: You said you've been recording. Wait, yeah, because he records
- 38:33Speaker 1: on the zoom, he's not using quick Time?
- 38:35Speaker 4: Did you record on your zoom?
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 38:37Speaker 4: I fucked up, Daniel. I got so excited to see
- 38:43Speaker 4: you guys. I didn't hit it, hit it before you
- 38:46Speaker 4: hit it.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Is the quality set too high or maximum?
- 38:49Speaker 4: I'm so disappointed, dude, I'm rusty. I got so excited.
- 38:54Speaker 1: If you want my changing it to maximum, that would
- 38:55Speaker 1: be great.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Daniel, I really let us down.
- 38:58Speaker 3: It's okay, you totally let everybody down. America so mad
- 39:02Speaker 3: at you right now?
- 39:03Speaker 4: No, but Daniel, I feel sad about this.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I know what they're really upset. They're upset in Australia.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Australia is like this.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Listen, audience, audience, you're gonna notice that my sound quality
- 39:13Speaker 4: is going to get good.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Right the UK is pissed, audience.
- 39:17Speaker 4: My sound quality is gonna get good right now. I'm sorry.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I was so excited to see these guys like a
- 39:23Speaker 4: little fucking kid that either faces their face.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Got no kids, like a little fucking.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Kids, like someone who does have kids.
- 39:34Speaker 4: And when I saw them, I was bouncing and I
- 39:37Speaker 4: didn't hit record on my quick time down. I feel
- 39:39Speaker 4: like I let you down. I let the audience down.
- 39:41Speaker 4: But audience, don't sound much better now?
- 39:43Speaker 1: You sound great, silky smooth.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Now, Dann, will my sound effects have come through or not?
- 39:47Speaker 3: Yes?
- 39:50Speaker 4: Okay, good? Yes, all the show all right, so Kelso
- 39:55Speaker 4: doesn't work again. This is reintroducing something we already know
- 39:58Speaker 4: because guess what it was supposed to be the premiere episode.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Kelso gets muffins every day at the hospital and doesn't
- 40:05Speaker 4: um it doesn't He gets free muffins for life and
- 40:10Speaker 4: hangs out every day at.
- 40:12Speaker 3: The coffee Bucks. Yeah, coffee Bucks. And and he's still
- 40:17Speaker 3: he still is a mean person.
- 40:21Speaker 4: He's not. This is what we know about Kelso. He's
- 40:23Speaker 4: still mean. He has no life outside of the hospital. Still,
- 40:28Speaker 4: he gets free muffins from a guy named Donnie, and
- 40:33Speaker 4: that's his existence. At the beginning of season eight.
- 40:37Speaker 3: We learned that Cox hates Deal or No Deal. Yes, wow,
- 40:42Speaker 3: now I have no clue. I'm just he starts the
- 40:45Speaker 3: episode off Dealer No Deal in turns raise their hands,
- 40:52Speaker 3: get the fuck out of here.
- 40:54Speaker 4: I assume it's because the show must have been very
- 40:57Speaker 4: hot at the moment, and I don't think Cox likes
- 40:59Speaker 4: things that are culturally very zeitgeisty. I think he hates that.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Why does he hate Hugh Jackman.
- 41:05Speaker 4: I think he hates Hugh Jackman because Hugh Jackman at
- 41:08Speaker 4: the time and obviously still was such a popular movie
- 41:12Speaker 4: star and he was good at everything, that that Cox
- 41:16Speaker 4: is an alpha male, was jealous of the fact that
- 41:18Speaker 4: Hugh Jackman could do anything and everything. He could be
- 41:21Speaker 4: the star of a musical, he could be a tough
- 41:24Speaker 4: guy in the movies.
- 41:25Speaker 3: And do you think Hugh Jackman took offense to any
- 41:28Speaker 3: of this?
- 41:29Speaker 4: Well, I'm sure he didn't love it. Who the hell
- 41:31Speaker 4: wants to have a joke on the show be like
- 41:33Speaker 4: I hate that person?
- 41:34Speaker 5: Yeah, right, except everybody on the show was like, you're
- 41:37Speaker 5: crazy for that opinion.
- 41:39Speaker 4: Yes, right, but I still think you're not, like, yay, yay,
- 41:44Speaker 4: the character on a TV show that's popular hates me.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Look, nobody likes catching strays on TV.
- 41:49Speaker 3: It's just like, yes, you know what, we all know
- 41:53Speaker 3: this for a fact.
- 41:54Speaker 1: That's just true.
- 41:57Speaker 4: We called it straight. I was watching the Emmys and
- 41:59Speaker 4: Family do we talk about this? The Family Guy characters
- 42:02Speaker 4: were hosting the Emmys. They were doing the opening monologue.
- 42:05Speaker 4: Obviously it was a it was an animation video. But
- 42:09Speaker 4: I'm like Donald and I like tune in, like time
- 42:11Speaker 4: for the Emmys. Here we go and they're singing a
- 42:14Speaker 4: song and and the lyric was one of the It
- 42:18Speaker 4: was dissing. It was like a roast, but it was, Yeah,
- 42:21Speaker 4: it was dissing me. The song was. And on NBC
- 42:24Speaker 4: we have the lovable Zach Braff who reminds us that
- 42:28Speaker 4: a sitcom doesn't have to make us laugh. Come on.
- 42:32Speaker 4: I was like, I was like, I just sat down
- 42:34Speaker 4: to watch the Emmys.
- 42:35Speaker 3: That is like straight up shot.
- 42:39Speaker 4: And I remember, like, WHOA do I watch the rest
- 42:43Speaker 4: of the Emmys.
- 42:47Speaker 3: God, yeah, he wasn't a fan. Ude.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Yeah, McFarlane wasn't a fan. I mean he he did
- 42:52Speaker 4: that whole white Scrubs, black Scrubs thing.
- 42:55Speaker 3: It's got some great He's cool outside, it's cool outside.
- 42:59Speaker 1: But he was so nice.
- 43:00Speaker 3: It's so nice when I'm.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Well, I think, I don't know that he ever even
- 43:05Speaker 4: watched the show. I just knew that we were popular
- 43:08Speaker 4: and he loved taking digs at us.
- 43:11Speaker 3: That's all right.
- 43:12Speaker 5: You caught a positive stray on The Great North, which
- 43:16Speaker 5: is a new Fox animated like family sitcom style show,
- 43:20Speaker 5: where one of the characters was describing something they were like,
- 43:24Speaker 5: I can't remember the exact quote, was like it's luminescent.
- 43:26Speaker 5: They're like, like, Zach brast smile. I was like, that's.
- 43:28Speaker 3: So so sweet.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Second, another positive stray I caught was on thirty Rock,
- 43:35Speaker 4: which at its height, which I loved, And Kenneth sneaks
- 43:40Speaker 4: on to Conan's set and pretends and when no one's there,
- 43:45Speaker 4: and he's sitting on the couch like he's and he's
- 43:47Speaker 4: imagining he's a guest, and he does this whole thing
- 43:50Speaker 4: about why, yes, Conan, my career has taken off. My
- 43:54Speaker 4: roommate Zach Braff and I love Ta da da Da
- 43:56Speaker 4: da da. And this fantasy was that we were roommates. Amazing, amazing,
- 44:07Speaker 4: all right, So a these this, this is Azas is
- 44:10Speaker 4: big introduction I think into the show, or I know
- 44:13Speaker 4: he's has he appeared another one. I forgot.
- 44:16Speaker 3: He has appeared in other ones, but this is the
- 44:18Speaker 3: this was meant to be meant.
- 44:19Speaker 4: To be his introduction. Yeah, and he says wah, which
- 44:22Speaker 4: I don't really get, but that's like he's saying.
- 44:24Speaker 7: Wah when whenever, Yeah, whenever an intern because the intern
- 44:32Speaker 7: got because Katie got roasted by doctor Cox.
- 44:36Speaker 3: He swah because he was sick of her being the
- 44:40Speaker 3: know it all in turn.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Right, I didn't think it was did you think it
- 44:44Speaker 4: was funny?
- 44:45Speaker 3: Well, it's to pay off for the end of the
- 44:46Speaker 3: it's to pay off for the end of the show.
- 44:48Speaker 4: So when I know, but I think, don't get me wrong,
- 44:51Speaker 4: I think he's is funny. I just didn't think, whoa
- 44:54Speaker 4: it was funny.
- 44:55Speaker 3: I don't know, man, I mean Cox was pretty hard
- 44:59Speaker 3: up on you Stone.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Were you high when you watched it?
- 45:02Speaker 3: I mean, come on, bro.
- 45:04Speaker 4: I thought you'd take a weed break. I don't know.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Nigga were on strike? You forever? Forever?
- 45:17Speaker 4: You ran to that fucking men's store, isn't he?
- 45:21Speaker 3: There was like we strike and I was like, we striking?
- 45:24Speaker 4: Did Donald? Donald ran past seven picking lines to get
- 45:27Speaker 4: to the weed.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Store, walked right up and well, were on strike?
- 45:33Speaker 4: Sorry, honey, we're on strike.
- 45:36Speaker 3: She's like, what you're doing today? Striking?
- 45:40Speaker 4: All right? Maybe is funny if you're baked. I wasn't baked.
- 45:43Speaker 4: So we're all assigned interns. No, we're gonna sign. We're
- 45:48Speaker 4: taking one under our wings.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yes, you're you're you're choosing of the from the bunch
- 45:53Speaker 3: of interns. You're choosing one to mentor so uh uh.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Elliott chooses Katie, Cox chooses Ed, and j D chooses
- 46:06Speaker 3: Denise better known as Joe.
- 46:10Speaker 4: He calls her Joe, which is for some reason, he
- 46:13Speaker 4: thinks she reminds him of Joe from Facts of Life because.
- 46:17Speaker 3: She because she's kind of like tough and a.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Tomboy, a tomboy butchy tomboy.
- 46:22Speaker 3: And she says, you know, she goes, you called me Joe,
- 46:26Speaker 3: and he said, I thought you might like it from
- 46:27Speaker 3: the Facts of Life. She goes, yeah, it's kind of butchy,
- 46:30Speaker 3: which is weird because you know, I like banging dudes.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Yeah, she talks like that and she has no I
- 46:37Speaker 4: mean almost to a cartoonish level. It bothered me a
- 46:39Speaker 4: little bit, like is she even a human being? I
- 46:42Speaker 4: mean she she had absolutely no I'm talking about bedside matter.
- 46:48Speaker 4: She had negative bedside manners.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Zero.
- 46:51Speaker 4: She rudely admonished someone.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Wouldn't that have been a lawsuit to talk to someone
- 46:57Speaker 3: that way?
- 46:57Speaker 4: And I don't know if you're allowed to sue. I'm
- 46:59Speaker 4: sure that any logic person would have complained, And I
- 47:03Speaker 4: mean it was It was upsetting to watch. I know
- 47:06Speaker 4: that that's the reaction Bill wanted from the audience, and
- 47:08Speaker 4: it worked, but it also felt like whoa Like what
- 47:12Speaker 4: a fucking bitch?
- 47:13Speaker 3: Like?
- 47:14Speaker 4: Who is say that?
- 47:15Speaker 5: As how she's going to be redeemable at the end
- 47:19Speaker 5: of the episode, because I was like, I don't like, obviously,
- 47:22Speaker 5: Denise is a fun character and we enjoy.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Her as a show goes on, but like Eliza.
- 47:25Speaker 5: Cooper, yeah, at the end of this year, like I
- 47:28Speaker 5: really don't want to see this woman again.
- 47:29Speaker 3: That's so mean.
- 47:30Speaker 5: This one's losing her husband.
- 47:32Speaker 3: But that was that actually turned into her character trait
- 47:37Speaker 3: that lasted all the way up until season nine. I
- 47:41Speaker 3: don't think she's that way in season nine, but for
- 47:45Speaker 3: all of season eight.
- 47:48Speaker 4: But this was like, this was like so, I granted,
- 47:51Speaker 4: I understand that Bill is setting her up to have
- 47:54Speaker 4: an arc of redemption and everything, so you got to
- 47:56Speaker 4: start off at like a really low point to give
- 47:59Speaker 4: her an arc. But I was more shocked than JD was.
- 48:04Speaker 4: I was like, who would ever telling a patient to
- 48:07Speaker 4: turn someone off life support like that? It just felt like,
- 48:10Speaker 4: I don't know, bizarre.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Yeah, when it happened, it was like that's not realistic.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Thought automatically, I was like.
- 48:19Speaker 4: No, no, it's like it's like, yeah, to me, it
- 48:21Speaker 4: felt like one step too far, like yeah, make her
- 48:23Speaker 4: make her cold, but she was like mean, yeah, yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 4: So the janitor pushes in Oscar the groud.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Wait wish it right. Let's start having We're going back
- 48:33Speaker 3: to the beginning.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Okay, cool Janitor pushes in Oscar the Grouche, which begins
- 48:38Speaker 4: the the the sort of template, if you will, that
- 48:42Speaker 4: that the Sesame Street characters are going to be worked
- 48:44Speaker 4: into JD's fantasies in this particular episode. And j D says,
- 48:49Speaker 4: I grew up on the street, not the hood, the
- 48:53Speaker 4: Sesame He.
- 48:55Speaker 3: Goes, no, not the hood.
- 48:58Speaker 4: How about how I walk into the how about I
- 49:00Speaker 4: walk into the breakroom and I'm like, oh, is he's here?
- 49:06Speaker 4: I wanted to watch? And then I see that you're
- 49:08Speaker 4: watching Sesame Street. I'm like, oh, yes, like that's what
- 49:10Speaker 4: JD plans to watch. And then Turk goes, it's a
- 49:14Speaker 4: good one. The letter's J No a curly or a
- 49:21Speaker 4: letter J.
- 49:22Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna be honest with you. So when
- 49:24Speaker 3: I was on Sesame Street, I actually did watch Sesame Street.
- 49:28Speaker 3: I don't know why, but Sesame Street worked for a
- 49:31Speaker 3: really long time. Maybe it was the music. Maybe I
- 49:35Speaker 3: want to say it was the music, and also the
- 49:37Speaker 3: comedy of the Muppets. If you watch the Muppets, or
- 49:41Speaker 3: if you watch Sesame Street as a parent and have
- 49:46Speaker 3: to sit with your child. The jokes that they do
- 49:49Speaker 3: on the show fly over the kid's head and hit
- 49:52Speaker 3: you right in the face, you know what I mean.
- 49:55Speaker 3: And it's so good and it's and it's so clever,
- 49:58Speaker 3: and I wish, you know, there's some footage out there,
- 50:03Speaker 3: but I wish you could see what it would like
- 50:07Speaker 3: working on the set with characters from these shows being
- 50:12Speaker 3: on Sesame Street, just in between takes, when the actors
- 50:17Speaker 3: were waiting for you know, whatever it was for sound
- 50:20Speaker 3: to catch up, or for the lighting, the lights to
- 50:23Speaker 3: be shifted, whatever it was. The entertainment was the puppet,
- 50:27Speaker 3: the puppeteers and the puppets, and they would make you
- 50:31Speaker 3: laugh so hard and would never break character until they
- 50:36Speaker 3: left from under you know, until the curtain was pulled
- 50:39Speaker 3: back and they left from under it. And that used
- 50:42Speaker 3: to be so much fun to be a part. So
- 50:45Speaker 3: when we did this and everyone got to experience that,
- 50:49Speaker 3: it was really cool. And it was also good to
- 50:50Speaker 3: see Carol, who's recently who passed away a few years ago.
- 50:54Speaker 3: But Carol played Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird, and
- 50:58Speaker 3: a lot of the stuff that I did on Sesame
- 51:00Speaker 3: Street was with him, and so it was great to
- 51:02Speaker 3: see him.
- 51:03Speaker 4: I agree with what you said, Donald, It was so
- 51:05Speaker 4: fun to watch these amazing puppeteers. And they they stay
- 51:09Speaker 4: in character as the puppet once once and even when
- 51:11Speaker 4: like yeah, but in between takes, they just keep chatting
- 51:15Speaker 4: away in the voice and the style of the character,
- 51:18Speaker 4: and you kind of forget sometimes you're just sitting there,
- 51:20Speaker 4: like during downtime and just like having a conversation with Grover, like,
- 51:25Speaker 4: wait a second, I'm talking about puppet.
- 51:27Speaker 3: But that's what happens, man, It's so amazing. It's so amazing.
- 51:31Speaker 3: And we had Grover on the show. We had Oscar
- 51:34Speaker 3: and we had Grover, and.
- 51:36Speaker 4: We had Elmo, and we had and I don't know
- 51:39Speaker 4: who the oh the woman, well the woman, the puppet,
- 51:42Speaker 4: the puppet that has the hand inside her.
- 51:44Speaker 5: I don't I think she was just a Their name
- 51:46Speaker 5: is x ray, which I thought was hilarious. I had
- 51:49Speaker 5: to look it up because I didn't know them up either,
- 51:51Speaker 5: But it's x ex space ray R A y amazing funny.
- 51:55Speaker 4: That's that's a really funny joke. I'm so Jad mentions
- 52:01Speaker 4: Neil and Garrett, who who are two who are two
- 52:06Speaker 4: interns that are always inviting him to go rollerblading.
- 52:10Speaker 3: And one of them is Kip Kroger. Yeah, I don't
- 52:13Speaker 3: know if you guys know this. Kip Kroger started off,
- 52:16Speaker 3: You guys definitely don't notice. He started off in the
- 52:18Speaker 3: editing department in Scrubs.
- 52:20Speaker 4: As like a PA. Now one of Bill's main producers.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Yeah, freak. He jumps up on stage at the freaking
- 52:27Speaker 3: Golden Globes with everybody and at the end, yeah you
- 52:30Speaker 3: see his head, his bald ass had and this he
- 52:32Speaker 3: freaking uh lair for last.
- 52:36Speaker 4: For last and tricking. He's he's Bill's company. He's like
- 52:39Speaker 4: one of the top producers that a douser, and he
- 52:42Speaker 4: started with with Bill when he was a PA. And
- 52:44Speaker 4: now but anyway, this is his cameo. He plays one
- 52:47Speaker 4: of the roller blading maybe gay.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Interns, maybe gay interns, maybe.
- 52:53Speaker 4: Get that's you what they're called, the maybe gay interns.
- 52:56Speaker 5: His name is Neil and his writing partner right because
- 52:58Speaker 5: one of them was Neil.
- 52:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Part of it, sorry, there's a second part of
- 53:01Speaker 4: it in that there was a writing duo who wrote
- 53:04Speaker 4: some of our best episodes and they were Neil and
- 53:07Speaker 4: Garrett and.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Going on to do I mean, Neil is going on
- 53:11Speaker 3: to do.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Neil is one of the head writers of Shrinking with
- 53:14Speaker 4: Bill and I was on the picket line with him.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Neil Goldman, very very funny man. I think he occasionally
- 53:21Speaker 4: listens to the podcast, do you think so? Yeah, he talks.
- 53:25Speaker 3: He's gonna love that shout out you just gave him.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Neil, you are so funny and talented, and Shrinking
- 53:31Speaker 4: is very funny, and a lot of it is due
- 53:34Speaker 4: to your genius brain.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Neil. I've been saying this to you for a really
- 53:38Speaker 3: long time. If the script stars, if our stars ever collide,
- 53:43Speaker 3: I would love to make a show with you. Bro.
- 53:46Speaker 4: He's already taken. He's the head writer of.
- 53:48Speaker 3: Shut the fuck Up. I'm shooting my shot. Let shoot
- 53:51Speaker 3: my shot, well shot.
- 53:53Speaker 4: The scripts for Shrinking have been written already, Donald. So
- 53:56Speaker 4: you're not going to be in season two?
- 53:59Speaker 3: Why not? Why you saying ain't no black people and
- 54:02Speaker 3: Shrinking too, ain't no guests black people?
- 54:06Speaker 4: People who are the stars of the show. You should
- 54:08Speaker 4: watch it. It's good tell you telling me.
- 54:09Speaker 3: You're telling me, you're telling me that there ain't gonna
- 54:11Speaker 3: be nobody else coming in.
- 54:13Speaker 4: Do you know which one of your scrubs cast members
- 54:15Speaker 4: did a cameo on the show.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Yeah, of course, who Bob clandessin.
- 54:22Speaker 4: First of all, it's Bob clintnnon and no, Neil Flynn
- 54:26Speaker 4: does it. Neil Flynn plays one of Harrison Ford's patients.
- 54:29Speaker 3: And oh I saw that. Yeah, I did see that.
- 54:31Speaker 4: All right, We're gonna take a break because I have
- 54:33Speaker 4: to pee. Donald thinks that a urologist is only in
- 54:37Speaker 4: charge of the shaft. Yeah, he thinks it's a different
- 54:40Speaker 4: doctor when it switches to the.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Balls and the tip and the tip.
- 54:45Speaker 4: Oh between you think between balls and tip is is
- 54:49Speaker 4: eurologists and the tip has its own specialty.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the tip doctor, the shaft doctor, and the balls doctor.
- 54:55Speaker 4: Listen, if you ever have to get a camera put there,
- 54:59Speaker 4: if you make sure he numbs more than just the
- 55:01Speaker 4: tim because I can tell you it was horrible. We'll
- 55:03Speaker 4: be right back.
- 55:03Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about.
- 55:11Speaker 4: And we're back.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Zach and Donald newlyweds in house arrest.
- 55:19Speaker 4: I love that guy. So it says Elliott and jd
- 55:23Speaker 4: are dating again? Is I lost track? Are they dating again?
- 55:26Speaker 3: Not in this episode? Yeah?
- 55:29Speaker 5: No, because to me the first episode they were back
- 55:32Speaker 5: together at the top of the season briefly, remember you
- 55:36Speaker 5: all started dating for a little bit and then get
- 55:38Speaker 5: that whole right.
- 55:40Speaker 3: No, No, they just was saying they were going to
- 55:42Speaker 3: hang out. They were going to hang out more.
- 55:44Speaker 4: I know. But there's a line in this episode where
- 55:46Speaker 4: someone we or someone says Elliott and JD are dating.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:51Speaker 4: I was confused. It's hard to keep track, especially when
- 55:53Speaker 4: they're out of order. All right, And now now a
- 55:55Speaker 4: Zesu's character, Ed says syphilis, syphilis when.
- 56:00Speaker 3: He does the turntable spin.
- 56:02Speaker 4: He used to be a DJ.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he does a simplest simpling and then does
- 56:06Speaker 3: the spin, simple and simplest. That ship was fucking dude.
- 56:10Speaker 4: See I wasn't high, so I was kind of like
- 56:12Speaker 4: not getting it. But it was meant for stoners. I think.
- 56:17Speaker 3: You don't think of Jesus comedy is meant for stoners.
- 56:20Speaker 4: No, I'm saying the exact thing I'm saying. I thought
- 56:23Speaker 4: these Ed slashes, these jokes were very stonery.
- 56:26Speaker 3: And man, come on, you ever see a DJ doist thing?
- 56:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I've seen a DJ do their thing right.
- 56:34Speaker 3: It's like this, fuck your sepuck yourself right, But you
- 56:38Speaker 3: ever see them try to throw flares? In there. He
- 56:41Speaker 3: threw the flare and with the spin simplest, simplest, simplest simple,
- 56:45Speaker 3: and then he did the spin around and everything. That
- 56:47Speaker 3: was hilarious.
- 56:48Speaker 4: Dude, all right, little beat juggle, A beat juggle. Daniel
- 56:51Speaker 4: knows the lingo because he's a DJ.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I have to DJ Danel that simply must.
- 56:55Speaker 4: What are your twitch in these days? Daniel? Uh?
- 56:58Speaker 1: Well, by the time that this comes out, I'll be
- 56:59Speaker 1: twiching the new Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
- 57:01Speaker 4: Yeah, when is that cut?
- 57:03Speaker 3: When does it drop?
- 57:04Speaker 1: It comes out Friday, May twelfth, but it releases nine
- 57:08Speaker 1: pm on Thursday, May eleventh, which is today. Oh shoot, when.
- 57:15Speaker 3: We're recording mine, Rocco's about to lose his.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Are you playing the Star Wars game? Donald?
- 57:20Speaker 3: Hell? Yeah, I'm playing jediur.
- 57:22Speaker 4: You said you weren't going to play, and then I
- 57:24Speaker 4: saw Billboard and I brought it up to you and
- 57:25Speaker 4: you're like, I'm not playing. And then my nephew, who's
- 57:28Speaker 4: a video game slash Star Wars fanatics, said it's off
- 57:31Speaker 4: the hook, and I said, Donald, apparently the game is
- 57:34Speaker 4: off the hook, and now you love it.
- 57:36Speaker 3: No, So what happened was in between the time and
- 57:40Speaker 3: that I had said that, and now I had started
- 57:42Speaker 3: playing Jedi Fallen Order.
- 57:45Speaker 4: You hadn't been the first game.
- 57:47Speaker 3: I hadn't played the first game, and so you know,
- 57:51Speaker 3: Jedi Fallen Order is a lot of fun.
- 57:53Speaker 1: It's real good.
- 57:54Speaker 3: It's actually really good. The one thing that I disagree
- 58:01Speaker 3: with with all of it is is that you're blocking
- 58:05Speaker 3: should be able to last for really long. It shouldn't
- 58:09Speaker 3: be something that's depleted. And so if you've got it
- 58:12Speaker 3: on slide, yeah, yeah, but if somebody's attacking you with
- 58:16Speaker 3: like major combos and stuff like that, as these characters,
- 58:19Speaker 3: as the bosses do in the game, you know, it's tough. Tough. Yeah,
- 58:25Speaker 3: it gets between blocking and dodging. It makes it really Difficult's.
- 58:30Speaker 4: Grid to the show because no one cares about this
- 58:31Speaker 4: except video game You good the one that brought it up.
- 58:35Speaker 4: Please don't call me fu face. And I just want
- 58:36Speaker 4: to say that I think with the video game talk,
- 58:39Speaker 4: everyone likes it, doesn't mind a little sprinkle like salt Bay.
- 58:42Speaker 4: But then when y'all go deep.
- 58:44Speaker 3: Doesn't put a little salt on that motherfucker salt a
- 58:49Speaker 3: fistful of salt.
- 58:51Speaker 4: Listen. The way I feel about video games with our
- 58:53Speaker 4: audience is that there's definitely a percentage that loved the chat.
- 58:57Speaker 4: But we got to just do a sprinkle sprinkle of
- 58:59Speaker 4: Salt Bay get out. Well, look and all five of
- 59:02Speaker 4: them are going to come say hi to me.
- 59:04Speaker 3: Let's get this ship out the way. We didn't talk
- 59:06Speaker 3: about the Mandalorian yet, whole seasons off the series.
- 59:12Speaker 4: I couldn't watch it out. I couldn't watch it. And
- 59:15Speaker 4: Or ruined everything.
- 59:15Speaker 3: For me, and Or ruined a lot for a lot
- 59:17Speaker 3: of people.
- 59:18Speaker 4: I got to say, and Or was like, oh, it's
- 59:22Speaker 4: like that, and then I went back and I tried,
- 59:24Speaker 4: and it wasn't for me. I'm sorry.
- 59:27Speaker 3: I disagree with you wholeheartedly, Joelle.
- 59:30Speaker 4: Do you disagree with me? You're another Star Wars megafan.
- 59:33Speaker 5: I don't disagree with you that and Or has set
- 59:35Speaker 5: a new bar.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Certainly, thank you for Star Wars. I was different.
- 59:39Speaker 5: But I do think that the Mandalorian is a very
- 59:42Speaker 5: man If you watch The Mandalorian like you would watch
- 59:44Speaker 5: say Gun Smoke Children, that is an old Western show
- 59:49Speaker 5: that was meant to go on forever. The story didn't
- 59:51Speaker 5: really connect to much else. It was just like, here
- 59:53Speaker 5: are these characters. They don't grow Revolve. They face similar
- 59:56Speaker 5: challenges every episode. But you love that ship because it's
- 59:58Speaker 5: a Western get into it. That's Mandalorian, and that has
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: made it more enjoyable for me to watch.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: But once you geta once you get passed. Once you
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: get past that, and Or is a special type of
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Star Wars and that, uh, it could alms. It could
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: almost be construed as else World's you know what I mean,
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: because of there's cursing, there's a bunch of things in it. Anyway,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: once you get past all of that, Star Wars is
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: still enjoyable. It will always be enjoyable from from for kids,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: from kids to adults. I just always be able to find.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I'm not saying it's not quality, and there's tons of talent, obviously,
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: I'm just saying it just felt way more aimed at
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: children to me after consuming and Or.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, that's fine to say. I'll agree with that.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: I don't have any of them kids style. My dog
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: Billy doesn't want to watch.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: I'm telling you need to put it on that. Billy
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: like that ship, all.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: Right, I'll give it. You guys are so passionate. I'll
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: give it another chance. When Joe says, I like banging dudes.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: JD says, I've heard that's nice. He's heard, he's heard
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: through the grapevine that that's a nice thing. Chicks dig
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: the extra fuzz regarding his beard, which is we now
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: know meant to be a new thing, this glorious beard.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: And Grover appears and says, tell me about it, and uh.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: And it's four paws, four hands up.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and he says that's only two percent of your body.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: And then what happens. Grover gets oh oh, then he
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: asks for a hive four, a high four and todd
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: high foursm across the ICU.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Now, this is a play on This is a play
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: on Grover doing Hey Froggy Baby and running up on
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Kermit the frog and hitting him in the back and
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Kermit falling off the wall. Do you remember that?
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: No, what's that from?
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: It's also a play on Super grow Over where Grover
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: would fly and always crash land. So back in the day,
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: in early sesame street days, there were there was Kermit
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: and Grover always had like a segment together and it
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: always would start off with Kermit sitting on the wall
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: and Grover would come running from behind, Hey Froggy Baby
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: and run and smack Kermit in the back, and Kermit
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: would fall off the wall and they'd have to climb
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: back up right. So it's a part of a play
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: on that, and it's part of the play on super Grover,
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: who later on in light they created this character super
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Grover who wore a freaking spartan helmet.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: I don't remember that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: You don't remember super Grover with the gold helmet, and
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: the helmet would fall over his eyes sometimes. Anyway, so
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: they create the stick.
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: He's my favorite. Grover is my favorite.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: And when he would land, he could never land on
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: his feet. He would always crash, like the greatest American hero.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: So that's funny. And so that was a play on
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: both of the things, one from his long run and
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: then him crashing from.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: The Remember Grover's book the monster at the end of
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: the book where the story.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: No, you remember that kid's book where here's the monster
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: at the end of the story.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: Yeah, he's like, it's a great kids book. He's like,
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: he's like so afraid that there's a monster at the
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: end of the book. He's like, stop turning the pages,
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: are you crazy? There's a monster at the end of
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: this book. And obviously the kids laughing and turning the pages,
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: and he's like, are you out of your mind? I'm
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: telling you, Nasa, it's really cute.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: That's really cute.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: Well, and then yeah, go ahead. At the end of
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: the book, the Monster's Grover.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: Spoilers, donal spoilers. Okay, so is He's first Pooh in
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: the potty? We all have flip phones, which is which
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: is just funny to see. But uh, Turk gets a
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: text of Isy's first Pooh in the potty and he
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: hands it to j D, and j D says, I
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: can't take my eyes off of it. It's gorgeous, and
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: he accidentally hit sends, which is confusing because who is
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: on this text chain? Because when he hit the whole hospital,
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: the whole hospital gets this Pooh. The janitor sees it
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: and he says they're back, yeah, meaning the he thinks
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: that is he's poo is an invading species.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: I guess so it looks like.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: And Ed says my new screensaver.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Yes, okay. So Elliott has a great story about someone
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: named Gina who gets watched taking a whiz through a hole.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, do.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: You remember the movie Porky's Back in the Day, saw Porky.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: You can never. Yeah, it could never. It could never
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: come out now, but no.
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: I know, but I remember, I remember, like I was
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: too young at the time, and then I just never
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: got around to it.
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: So this it's a movie. There's three of them. It's
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: a movie about a bunch of kids who want to
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: go party at the adult bar across the river, Porky's,
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: but along the way. The most famous part of the
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: movie is them looking through being freaking a bunch of
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: peeping toms and checking out girls in the shower at
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: school through a peephole, right, So that was the poster.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: It was their eye.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Crazy, it's crazy. That was the poster.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: That was the poster. Yeah, their eye looking through the hole, right.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: So that's where all the nudity comes in. But at
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: the end of the day they go to so they
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: go to Porky's and it doesn't go well for them.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, Porky comes out and fucks
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: up their car and all of this stuff and then
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: sends them on their way. The cops are involved with it,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: and they plan their revenge on Porky and that's the that's.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: The of these three of them. Are there any known
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: now actors whose names we know they're in them.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: I mean there's a couple of them. Some of them
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: are in like movies like The Wanderers, and like there's
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: a bunch of people. You know.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: It's Porky's has escaped me. But I think I'll skip it.
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: I think I'll skip it, all right, what else, Donald,
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: we spoke about the hand that's inside of you joke.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: So again, mister Fremont is my patient that is dying
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: of cancer. He has an eight year old son. Jad
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: gets the scans back and it does not look good
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: at all, and and he thinks that this is going
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: to be a lesson for Denise slash Joe, to teach
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: her about bedside manner, to teach her about giving bad news.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: And that turns out not to be the case at all,
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: because she is very rude and disrespectful, disrespectful to this
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: woman's telling her that she needs to take her husband
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: off life support.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Immediately because she's going to wind up doing it anyway.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: Yes, and so that's meant to Meanwhile, JD has tears
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: in his eyes because he's just such an empathetic, loving
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: doctor with the giant, giant heart.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Well, all of all the three of you guys have dilemmas.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: So Elliott is trying to get Katie into Turk's intern program.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: It's certainly I think you're writing, you're writing a paper
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: or something, and she's trying to help. She's trying to
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: help her be the one chosen to help you.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: And then, uh, Cox can't figure out why he hates
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Ed so much.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Somebody Ed makes it obvious he's not a very likable guy.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: No, well, you know, he's joking and stuff like that.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: But all of that's acceptable if you're a good doctor,
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: you know what I mean. Like JD was clingy. J
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: D was always trying to get a hug out of
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: But you don't think that's annoying.
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: I think I think Ed as an audience member, I'm
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: going this guy's annoying. I mean, at rounds he's listening
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: to the Da Vinci Code Book on tape.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Oh it was that guy.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: All right, Look, it was that guy. Some people love it,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: some people don't. I don't know. I I guess I
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: felt annoyed by him. I was like, he's not taking
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: this seriously at all. This is such a huge opportunity
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: and he just seems so you know, checked out like,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: aren't you excited to be a doctor. You're finally you're
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: finally in a hospital working, and he's just so vacant absent.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: Well, it turns out that's that's his character flaw. That's
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: his At the end of the episode, we learned each
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: intern's character flaw. You know. Uh, Denise's is when you know,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: straight up, when somebody tells you who they are, you
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: need to believe that shit right away. And she told
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: you straight up who she was, and you try and
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: I mean she told JD straight up who she was,
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: and JD tried to fix it and it's all for
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: not at the and when it all comes down to it. Uh,
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: same thing with Cox. Cox finds out that Ed is lazy,
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: and Ed's question is, well, you know, am I doing
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: a bad job? And Cox is like, you're better than most,
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: but you nailed it. He wasn't there, He's not there
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: for Yeah.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Well, I think Cox sees like, hey, you're you're actually
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: a really smart guy. Why aren't you showing up? What
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: the fuck is this? You're like half You're like half here.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: You got to be present and you have talent, you
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: have skill. Why aren't you Why aren't why are you
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: phoning it in? You just started?
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: And he's like, well, is me phoning it in? Is
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: it a bad am? I doing a bad job? I
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: mean that sucks. I mean that that that's that's one
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: a gift and it's a curse. You know, if you
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: get easy for him, Yeah, if everything is easy, you're
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: never going to get the same satisfactory that you that
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: you're searching for. If I remember kids, is too easy.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: I remember kids at Northwestern that would party like crazy,
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: and they were pre med and they would drink like
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: ship faced every night and they were just getting fucking
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: straight a's and meds in pre med. They're just it
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: was it was easy for them.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: It comes to that. It's you know, look at acting
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: for look at acting for us, you know what I mean,
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: look at look at directing and writing for you know,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: it might be difficult for you, but it looks easy
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: to you make it what it looks easy. You make
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: it look easy to everyone else.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: None of it's easy for me. Maybe it's easy for you.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: I'm not. I don't think in regards to.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think any of this ship is easy.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: I don't think any of it is easy. But I'm saying, dude,
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: you've been working for a very long time. You've been
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: lucky enough to have a job for a very long time.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: There are people that look at that and think of
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: it as it's something that come came naturally to you.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: They don't. There aren't a lot of people, you know,
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: there are. I'm sure there are a lot of people
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: that are like, oh, he worked really hard for it.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: But for the most part, the world America believes acting
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: is an easy job that anyone can do, you know
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: what I mean. But it's only because the greats make
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: it look easy, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: No, No, I'm just trying to follow your train of
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: thought with regards to Ed, because.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: So Ed is one of those cats who, you know,
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: I'm sure he had to do some type of study
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: and to get to the level that he's at right now.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: So he did. He definitely studied and he retained a lot.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: But now he's on the he's on the other side
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: of it where he's like, well, I know what I
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: got to do to succeed. I know what has to
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: be done to be successful in this career. It's show up,
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: do my job, and that's it. I don't need to
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: go the extra mile.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Well, we'll see it with any of these interns evolve.
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: Because I don't honestly remember what there are.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: I can tell you everything that happens, well.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: I don't even remember, but don't spoil it for me,
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: because I'm gonna watch it fresh because I have no
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: memory of the season. It's very and I'm not even
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: in season nine barely, So I'm really gonna.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: If you're like in half a season nine, shut the
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: fuck up and half of it.
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: I never watched a single episode of season nine. I
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: will be genuinely watching that for the first time, Zach.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: I've only watched like five episodes of Scrubs until this.
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: No, but nine is gonna be surreal for me because I,
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: at least these I vaguely. Of course, I remember big moments.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: I remember the obviously, I remember Sesame Street characters being there,
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: but I don't remember so much of it. Which is
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: this particularly surreal exercise for you and I because we
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: we we we are these characters, but this many years later,
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: we get to watch back and and see ourselves doing
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: things we barely remember.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: You know, I yeah, it's it's you know, maybe because
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: we had this break and I went away and I
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: did something else that this is the crazy thing. Okay,
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: so we had this break, I went away and did
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: something else in a couple of years. I'm not going
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: to remember that I did that unless the show's the success.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it might be a big hit and you'll still
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: on it.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: That'd be from your mouth. That'd be a wonderful thing. Right.
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: Did you enjoy doing it?
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: I had a great time. I had such a great
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: time working with John Cryer, Abigail Spencer, michael'malley. So when
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: you're doing it, Clark came in.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: When you're doing it, yeah, you're you're having a blast.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: Did you have a live audience because it's a traditional
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: sitcom and from an audience, right, yes, we had.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: A live audience. It was a you know, it's it's
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: really interesting because I did a show before where we
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: had a live audience, and with a live audience, that
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: would be the day that you turn up, you know
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: what I mean. If you were at A five on
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: Monday when the show's when the showtime, in front of
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: a live audience on Friday, you're out of twenty five,
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: you know, I mean twenty five out of ten. And
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: this one they were like don't lean into the audience.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: The audience is there to be the you know, to
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: help with the timing and to help with the you know,
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: to help move the story along.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: But don't don't milk it.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Don't try and get laughs just to try, you know
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: Like that, I would be so bad at that, seem such.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Because I'm such a laugh whore. Well you're such a
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: laugh whore.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: You're a clown, and I'm a clown. And when you
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: have all those people laughing at shit you're doing, it's
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: hard not to lean into it.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: It's really hard.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: It's I remember remember doing your show the Exes and
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: in between Donald's and the audience like singing, dancing, like yeah, man,
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: Donald Donald's putting on a whole show in the audience.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Did you do that this time?
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: No?
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: I never went into the audience, but I definitely talked
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: to the audience quite a bit. Right.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: They must have loved that.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: They did. They do. It's interaction, you know what I mean.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: So you had what you're saying is is an actor
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: got direction to be like, hey, this in this show,
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: just don't.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Don't play for the laugh, you know what I mean.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: Don't play for the audience's laugh. The joke is fun,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: you know, it's like scrubs. We didn't play in for
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: the audience laugh because there was no there was no
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: studio audience there to laugh at our jokes.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: We would try, we try to make each other laugh,
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: and we tried the crew laugh.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: Right, but they couldn't laugh during the take. That would
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: be that would suck up the take, right, So you
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: try to. So you do that in rehearsal, and then
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: when you're shooting it, it all of a sudden became grounded,
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: you know. And so in doing this show, and uh,
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: they were like, listen, let's try and keep this grounded.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: When we did the exes that we went.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Off the rail, off the rail. That was a much
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: that was a much broader comedy right way broad I
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: remember being on what I remember being on what's his
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: Name's back? What's his name?
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: David Allen Base.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: David Allen Base, he's very funny. I remember being on
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: his back, supposedly giving him a massage, just milking the
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: fuck out of it.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: It was milking it, milking the moment, milking the moment.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: They must they have to cut the audience down because
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: otherwise the show will be an hour long because the
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: audience is laughing so fucking hard.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: Well, you know who did it the best was Married
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: with Children? Married with the audience was a part of
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: the show. Was married with children, you know what I mean?
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: Like they would you would kiss on married with children
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: and the audience?
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: Don't they do that on ever? Reason? Come? They?
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: Oh? It was just well, like if they're doing it
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: on your sitcom.
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: You're doing something wrong. Yeah. If then you kiss, the
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: audience goes, oh right, or it might not be on
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: the right show.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Right. You got to earn that. You got to earn that.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: Like when it happened on Friends, it was earned. It
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: took time.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: Oh did they do it on Friends? Oh?
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Everybody and their mama went nuts when Ross and Rachel
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: kiss for the first time. The freaking if there was
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: a studio audience that remember that, didn't.
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: It sounds like the sanding of like it's very loud.
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: Really yeah, for sure?
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: Uh, because they'd edge the audience for so many years.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: Imagine you're shitting, Imagine you're sitting at home, right, sounds
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: that sounds like a standing ovation. They got to.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: It's a standing ovation. That's so funny. That's so funny.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: People are invested.
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: We all were.
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: Come on, man, I didn't watch it. I didn't watch it.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: I didn't watch frends either. But I've seen it, and
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: I want to watch it.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: I want to watch.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: Watched it so much that it's look, I don't I
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: don't watch Succession, Succession. I don't watch any of these shows.
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: You watch anything if it doesn't say Star Wars.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Pretty much or some type of super you watch.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: You watch a bachelorette, Bachelor.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: Oh you know what I just got into. Oh my god,
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: Vander Palmer Dance Moms Dance.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Because your little girl wants to dance. Your wife's gonna
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: become a dance mom.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: Oh my god. That show is the funniest ship. It
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: is a wild life. Look. First of all, First of all,
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: these kids are all grown now, so I can talk
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: shit on the parents and stuff. But holy well, I
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: don't know if it well, yeah, I guess it is.
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: I mean. The lady who was the star of the
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: show was in jail for a bit. She just got
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: financial troubles.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: She stopped paying studios like dance studios where she was
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: practicing and holding events, and that got.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: Up to it. She listened man at first when I
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: first watched the show, I was like, man, who does
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: this woman think she is talking to these mothers like that?
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: But then as you watch the show, you realize, oh,
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: she knows what she's talking about, and these mothers, yeah,
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: these mothers are crazy. And then when that switch happens,
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: When that switch happens, the show becomes the best show
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: on the planet. Like it's like they find reasons just
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: to like, they'll win, They'll win first place. I've never
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: seen anything like this before in my life except for
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: one time. And I don't want it. It's a long story,
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: but don't tell I'm gonna tell it anyway. They'll they'll win,
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: They'll win first place, and then start arguing about how
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: they won first place, like you just won this ship,
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: you won the whole thing. And they're like, but you know,
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: next time, I think Missy needs to dance solos in
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: the motherfucker. You know, they go in. I played basketball
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: with this kid. We won a game. We won a game.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: He scored twenty five points, had nine rebounds. We're all
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: in the locker room, right, We're all in the locker
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: room after cheering and going around and circle, like you know,
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: it's the playoffs. We're talking about what needs to be
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: done for the next game. This motherfucker says, next game,
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: y'all need to pass me the ball more Oh shit,
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: And we were like, what you'd had twenty something points
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: in nine read like you did your thing. That's what
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: you want to say to all of us, Pat, give
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: you the ball more granted? Yeah, sure, dude, whatever, Dude,
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: you got it. You you got the neck. But that's
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: what you want to say. And that's what it feels
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: like when you watch Dance Moms. It doesn't matter if
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: you want to lose. There's a complaint behind it. And
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: I think that's great teller.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: I think Zach. I think Zach and Donald's this new
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: show should be a rewatch of Dance Moms.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: Oh my god, please please, please please.
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: All were take a quick break and when we come back,
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: we will finish the show. We love you. Let's hear
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: what this button does.
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: Everybody likes little as you know, and we're bad.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: Speaking of being back Chico artist, dude.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: Yeah, we would put her out of a job. She
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: hasn't been producing.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: In a while, been putting a bunch of stuff.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: Oh really, she's not tagging me, Come on, cheek, artists.
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: I need to see that ship on my Insta tags.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: What she what she do?
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: She she's just putting like a bunch of behind the scenes.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Now she's doing shorts. Now she's doing short.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: But you know what, you know what her famous one,
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: one of her favorite ones is what to do is
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: whether it be a poop?
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: Yeah, a finger?
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: I love cheeko artists. She's so funny. All right, let's
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: finish up the show for the audience, guys. So none
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: of these interns are really that that that nice because
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: we find out that not only is Denise so cold,
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: but she's playing.
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: She's playing.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Katie is playing Elliott. Turns out that Katie used Elliott
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: to get Turk to pick her to use her for
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: the research paper. Yeah, and we find that out because
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: we learned that Katie was the very first person to
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: say meanwhile, she told Elliott, I don't have the courage
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: to sign up. And we know that Ed signed up
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: solely because he had one of those pens that you
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: can click down three different colors and he wanted to
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: use it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: And that's why Turk wanted to pick them.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: And picked him because he thought that was cool too.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: So this is so these are this is something else.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: There's an undertone in here that's very misogynistic as far
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: as the way Turk uh. The reason why Turk doesn't
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: pick Katie is because you know, the surgical department is
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: the surgery department is a boys club. The reason why
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: uh uh? At least this is what I got. I
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: thought that, and then it changed up, and then it
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: changed up on me. But I thought that the reason
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: why j D was chose a girl was because he
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: could find someone who would be more in touch with
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: their feelings than a boy would. And I thought, that's
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: why JD chose a girl, which is a little massage
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: andistic also you know what I mean in some way,
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: just to assume that that would be the way. And
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: so the great lesson in the episode was don't judge
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: a book by its cover, because he chooses Denise, and
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: Denise turns out to be completely opposite.
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: A sociopath.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: That's exactly what she is.
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: She has no conscience, no emotions, she's cold as ice.
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: Yeah, And Elliot chooses her intern because she looks like
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: her yeah yeah.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: And Elliot's always dying for female friends. So she's like,
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: she's like, you know, the vibe is like, oh, I'm
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: also going to have a cute new buddy.
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: I just thought that was very interesting. I thought that
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: And at the end of it nothing gets resolved either.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: That was also something that I thought was, you know,
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: really usually at the end of every episode, you know,
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: at the end of the day, you know.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: Right, But I think this again, this was meant to
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: be the premiere of season eight, so it's setting up
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: the you know, these main lead interns who are going
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: to be the interns for the season, thought.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: Dot dot, you know, right, And then Elliot, you really
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: don't like the interns at the end of this episode.
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: You know, I don't like any of them.
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: They're a bunch of little shits. And and I get
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: that that's supposed to be like, you know, hindsight being
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: twenty twenty, so were j D. Elliott and Turk when
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: they were interns and stuff like that, But we like
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: but the story, Yeah, but the story is told so different.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: You know, they're they're they're they're uh.
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: Oh, I see what you're saying. I think I get
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: what you're saying. You're saying, we're now seeing it from
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: a different perspective. We're seeing it from the doctor's perspective.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: When when when Scrubs audiences first met our characters in
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: one on one, they were seeing it from the interns perspective.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Perhaps Bill specifically made them annoyings because we're experiencing them
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: from the now jaded doctor's perspective. I don't know, well,
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: I did get goosebumps in the end as Josh Raden
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: sings the Sesame Street song and JD says, always play nice,
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: always try your hardest, and it's okay to cry.
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: This is such a classic Bill episode, like, oh my God,
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: like I didn't check to see he wrote and directed
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: it first, so whoever wrote this is a genius. But
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: all the set up was so great and it gets
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: like the heart of Bill Lawrence, which is always like
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: past your torch of knowledge, because I feel like the
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: through line of all of his work is about like,
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: how do you pass like love and knowledge down to
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: the next generation and what does that trouble look like?
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: This the number one lesson, Joah tells Luke Skywalker before
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: he passes away, pass on what you've learned. That is
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: why we are here.
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: Gospel m m.
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: Mm feeling well, I miss you guys, an audience, We
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: are back. We are going to be doing this now
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: because our town is on strike, so we certainly don't well,
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: we'll not have jobs for the foreseeable future. What are
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: some announcements. If you're going to be in the Seattle
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: area on June tenth, please buy a ticket. You get

- 1:27:43Speaker 4: a good person.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: There's another date that we didn't talk about. We did
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: talk about it, but it doesn't have to do with
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: a good person. But on June tenth, I don't want
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: you all to forget we're going to be in Seattle.

- 1:28:05Speaker 3: everyone they were.
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: Did you do a bong hit? Did you do a
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: bong hit? Below the screens because within these end announcements
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: I mentioned probably less than two minutes ago yes, literally, guys,
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: weed not even once.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: Listen, guys, yeah, if you want everything to always be
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: like brand new, like you just like yo, live like Memento.

- 1:28:34Speaker 4: to live like the movie in the Mento? That's how
