- 0:03This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Clark
- 0:08Wofford, senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland,
- 0:12County of Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Clark as he
- 0:16continues teaching through God's Word.
- 0:37We all have a ritual, I hope in the morning, something that we
- 0:40do personally be before us and our God before we leave our
- 0:45homes, before we leave our families.
- 0:47It's there's some place in the house that we get alone with God
- 0:52where only he can see us and we get on our faces before him.
- 0:57And we worship Him this way, pouring out our hearts to Him,
- 1:02asking Him to examine our hearts, to search us, to know
- 1:06us, to see if there's anything in us that needs to be removed
- 1:10and to be taken out. Do you have that practice?
- 1:14Do you have a time that's dedicated to God, where you talk
- 1:17to Him and listen for His voice? As Christians, we call this a
- 1:22quiet time or a devotional. Ultimately, it's just time with
- 1:26Jesus, however that may look, Pastor Clark will challenge you
- 1:29today to set aside a time to be with Jesus so that he could do
- 1:34the work in your heart that only he can do.
- 1:36He can cleanse you of sin and empower you to live a holy life
- 1:40for him. Now.
- 1:42Here's Pastor Clark in the Book of Ephesians, chapter one with
- 1:46today's edition of Living Waters of Grace.
- 1:49Ephesians chapter one verse 13 and 14, It says in him you also
- 1:57trusted. This is regarding him, Jesus
- 2:00Christ and him you also trusted after you heard the word of
- 2:02truth, the gospel, your salvation, whom also having
- 2:06believed says you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
- 2:10who is a guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption
- 2:13of the purchased possession to the praise of his glory.
- 2:16So the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us.
- 2:19We're sealed by the power of God through the person of the Holy
- 2:23Spirit, and it's the evidence that we belong to God without
- 2:27the Holy Spirit. You aren't a Christian.
- 2:31And you should know if you have the Holy Spirit because whenever
- 2:33you have the Holy Spirit, your life has changed, your desires
- 2:36have changed, your interests, your motivation.
- 2:39You have conviction now about sin in a way that you didn't
- 2:42have it whenever you didn't have the Holy Spirit.
- 2:46And it says in First Corinthians 12/13 for by 1 Spirit are we all
- 2:50baptized into the body of Christ, the baptism of the Holy
- 2:54Spirit placing us from one place outside of the Kingdom of God,
- 2:59and then doing a work by his Spirit and placing us into a new
- 3:03family by his Spirit and Spirit baptism.
- 3:10And if you study the ancient foundational documents like the
- 3:17Nicean Creed or some of these things that fought out the
- 3:19truths of historic Christianity in the beginning, because of all
- 3:23the heresies, says there's one Lord.
- 3:25And Ephesians says there's one Lord, 1 faith, one baptism, one
- 3:29God and Father of all, who's above all and in all and through
- 3:32us all. And so we're sealed by the Holy
- 3:34Spirit of promise. And it tells us in chapter 4,
- 3:37verse 30 of Ephesians, it says, and do not grieve the Holy
- 3:41Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of
- 3:44redemption. How do you grieve the Holy
- 3:46Spirit? It says, let all bitterness and
- 3:49wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from
- 3:52you with all malice and be kind to one one another, tender
- 3:56hearted, forgiving one another, even as God and grace forgave
- 3:58you. If we hold bitterness and anger
- 4:01and any kind of attitude in our heart toward anybody, toward
- 4:04God, toward any kind of situation, it says we grieve the
- 4:08Holy Spirit, we hurt the Holy Spirit, we wound the Holy
- 4:11Spirit. And the Holy Spirit can't just
- 4:13say I'm out of here. I don't like dealing with Clark
- 4:16right now. He's just like making me
- 4:17miserable, you know, He just makes me feel like I don't want
- 4:20to be in him anymore. With the beauty of the Holy
- 4:22Spirit is he doesn't depart in the new covenant.
- 4:26He dwells in US forever. We're in the Old Testament.
- 4:29Remember David prayed in Psalm 51.
- 4:31Take not your Holy Spirit from me.
- 4:32That was his biggest fear because the indwelling, the
- 4:35permanent of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit didn't occur
- 4:37until Pentecost. And so these things are
- 4:40important. But in Revelation 7, this is
- 4:42what he's going to do for these 144,000.
- 4:47He's going to mark them with the seal, the Holy Spirit.
- 4:52And the ceiling is something, it's done and seen by God.
- 4:57I don't see a physical mark on you or you don't see one on me.
- 5:01But it's evident by how we live and how we treat each other if
- 5:05we are in Christ. But Jesus says by this shall
- 5:08people know you're my disciples by the love you have for one
- 5:12another. And so in this sense of what God
- 5:15is doing in verse 2, he is making this mark visible though
- 5:21to the spirit world and all the demons of hell and the person,
- 5:26the Antichrist. They're going to know for sure
- 5:29that these people have been set apart by God and there will be a
- 5:33certain protection given to them in the midst of all these
- 5:35cataclysmic events during this time in order for them to do
- 5:39what it is God's called them to do during this tribulation.
- 5:42All those from the ends of the earth, the other nations, the
- 5:45other people groups will be directly impacted by the
- 5:49evangelistic methodology of these 144,000 during this time
- 5:54of tribulation. And so in in verse 3, it says do
- 5:58not harm the earth and the sea or the trees till we have sealed
- 6:02the servants of our God and our forehead.
- 6:05So this command is given to the angels and these angels are the
- 6:08very ones that will sound the trumpet judgments as we get into
- 6:11chapter 8 next week. This won't start again until
- 6:16these servants of God are sealed and protected by the Lord God.
- 6:22So how are people going to get saved during this time?
- 6:25When you think about it, I mean, with the Antichrist ruling and
- 6:28hassling people and persecuting Christians, how are people going
- 6:33to be saved? Well, we'll study later on about
- 6:36the two witnesses that were eventually martyred that God
- 6:39will raise up. But there's going to be such
- 6:41powerful testimony during this time of tribulation, in the
- 6:45midst of the chaos, in the midst of the trials and the
- 6:48tribulations that are going to come upon the world.
- 6:50It's going to cause people to do one of two things.
- 6:53They're going to move away farther and farther from God and
- 6:55curse him, or they're going to move closer to him and say,
- 6:59there's got to be an answer to this.
- 7:00I don't want to have to deal with this.
- 7:02I need mercy. I need grace.
- 7:04And many of those people will remember the things that you and
- 7:06I had told them while we were alive, prior to us being caught
- 7:10up in the air. I don't know about you, but as a
- 7:13unbeliever prior to coming to Christ, what drew me to Christ
- 7:17was trials and tribulation. It was the lifestyle I was
- 7:22living. It was the condemnation and the
- 7:25guilt and the darkness. It was all about me from my drug
- 7:29induced hippie stage. And I, I just, I cried out to
- 7:34God I didn't know existed and I asked for His help and I asked
- 7:38him if he was real, that he would reveal himself to me and
- 7:41show me who He was. And he did.
- 7:43And it put me on the beginning path of my salvation.
- 7:48I, I look at people in life and I know that God uses trials for
- 7:53both groups. He uses trials and believers
- 7:56lives to cause us to get on our face and say, Lord, I want to
- 8:00move towards you, not away from you.
- 8:03And for unbelievers, he causes trials to come on their lives to
- 8:07break them so that they would repent and turn to God for mercy
- 8:11and for grace. So God the Holy Spirit, as we
- 8:14talked about last week, last week, he is everywhere present
- 8:18and he fills all things. When the church is taken out at
- 8:21the rapture, the Holy Spirit as a a person is in us.
- 8:26He goes with us to the Kingdom. But at the same time, the Holy
- 8:29Spirit is a spirit. He's God, he's omnipresent, he's
- 8:33everywhere present. So doesn't mean because he goes
- 8:35up with us, he's nowhere else. He's everywhere.
- 8:37And the only way this work of God can be occurring on the face
- 8:40of the earth this time with these 100 and 44,000, is through
- 8:44the power of the Holy Spirit. John 16-8 And this is prior to
- 8:49the Holy Spirit being poured out in Pentecost.
- 8:51This is what the Lord says about the person, the Holy Spirit.
- 8:55It says He will convict the world of sin.
- 8:57He'll still be doing that during the tribulation and of
- 9:01righteousness and of judgment of sin because they do not believe
- 9:04in me of righteousness because I go to my father and you see me
- 9:09no more. And of judgment because the
- 9:11ruler of this world is judged. Of course, that's the the
- 9:15Antichrist. So we we began to pick it up
- 9:17here in verse 4 and it says and I heard the number of those who
- 9:20were sealed. 144,000 of all the tribes of the children of
- 9:25Israel, verse 5, the tribe of Judah, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:29Of the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:32Of the tribe of Gad, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:34Of the tribe of Asher, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:37Of the tribe of Neptali, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:40Of the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:42Of the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:45Of the tribe of Levi, 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:48The tribe of Issachar 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:51The tribe of Zebulun 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:54The tribe of Joseph 12,000 were sealed.
- 9:57The tribe of Benjamin 12,000 were sealed.
- 10:00So we see this tremendous move of God's spirit.
- 10:03And what's what's amazing is if you ask a Jewish person today,
- 10:07what tribe are you descending of?
- 10:08They don't have a clue. They've lost all record of their
- 10:12historical setup in the in that place of the world.
- 10:15But God knows, he knows our lineage.
- 10:18Of course, we're all descendants of Adam and Eve.
- 10:21That's that's a fairly easy one for even us to understand,
- 10:24right? But the tribes are real specific
- 10:28and they'll be used to give God glory throughout the Book of
- 10:31Revelation. And so we see the specific names
- 10:34of these tribes. Now, some of you are Bible
- 10:36scholars in here and you might say, well, there, there's a
- 10:38couple mistakes in there. Clark, why isn't the why isn't
- 10:41some of these other guys mentioned in here, like Dan, the
- 10:44tribe of Dan, It was mentioned in the Old Testament.
- 10:47Well, some people, you know, there's sometimes some things in
- 10:49the scripture. What are you going to do make it
- 10:51up and just say, well, I think it, you know, sometimes it's
- 10:53better to say, I don't know. But God has a reason, though.
- 10:56He God doesn't make any mistakes in his word.
- 10:58There's a reason why there was a couple of adjustments and, and,
- 11:02and this tribe of Dan, Some people believe the reason it
- 11:04wasn't included. This is conjecture, but it's a
- 11:07possibility that the Antichrist will come up through the the
- 11:10tribe of Dan. I don't know, but one of the
- 11:13other interesting things here is that we see the the tribe of
- 11:16Levi's mentioned here and they weren't given a inheritance in
- 11:21the sense of an earthly Kingdom. Whenever they're their reign was
- 11:26going on, they were the priests unto God and the and the temple
- 11:31and their inheritance was a heavenly blessing.
- 11:33Their inheritance was the Lord. But here they show up again.
- 11:36And then you have Joseph who had, you know, two sons,
- 11:40Manasseh and Ephraim. Well, for whatever reason here
- 11:43we see Manasseh mentioned, but we don't see Ephraim mentioned,
- 11:47but we see Joseph mentioned so that the number still comes down
- 11:50to be the same. But all these guys, they're,
- 11:52they're descendants of Jacob and historical, why God's doing this
- 11:57that we'll get into a little bit later as we move on in
- 12:02Revelation 2112, after the Millennium and the new heaven
- 12:06and the new earth and the new Jerusalem, there's going to be
- 12:0812 gates in this new Jerusalem, and each one will bear the name
- 12:13of one of the tribes of Israel. It's going to be fascinating.
- 12:17And there will be that great door of Judah representing the
- 12:22line of the tribe of Judah, our Savior Jesus Christ.
- 12:26In verse 9 it says, after these things I looked and behold, a
- 12:29great multitude which no one could number of all the nations,
- 12:32tribes, peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and
- 12:36before the Lamb closed with white robes, with palm branches
- 12:40in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice saying,
- 12:43salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne into the
- 12:46Lamb. What a tremendous picture here
- 12:49of hope that in spite of the hell that's going to be poured
- 12:53out into the world during the Tribulation, you're going to
- 12:56have all these people from all over the world that are going to
- 13:00come to know Christ during this time.
- 13:02Part of this vision that John is having is that many Gentiles
- 13:06will be saved, a great multitude.
- 13:08There's so many people here, he can't even begin to describe the
- 13:12number. And that should give us hope
- 13:15because there will be some of our loved ones that won't make
- 13:18it out in the Rapture with us, but that doesn't mean it's over
- 13:22for them. And that might be a good
- 13:24conversation to have with some family, some friends.
- 13:27Hey, you might not buy into this.
- 13:28You don't want to believe it right now.
- 13:30That's between you and God. But when this does happen,
- 13:33remember that there's still hope that you can still believe.
- 13:38It'll be tougher to believe them because you will most likely
- 13:42face true death and martyrdom to make your stand for Jesus
- 13:47Christ. And it says they're going to
- 13:51have white robes on. And the significance of these
- 13:54robes is a beautiful situation here where it talks about these
- 13:58robes that are washed and they're made white in the blood
- 14:03of the Lamb. Only the blood of Jesus Christ,
- 14:07Amen, can make us clean, not by works of righteousness, which we
- 14:14have done, but according to His mercy.
- 14:16He saved us without the shedding of blood.
- 14:19There is no remission of sins. It's not my good life that I
- 14:24think I live or you live our good works, although our works
- 14:28are in evidence of our relationship with Christ.
- 14:32As the old hymn said, nothing in my hands I bring only to the
- 14:36cross I cling. And so the blood of Jesus Christ
- 14:40upon every one of us today. And we all know what we are,
- 14:43don't we? Down deep inside we know what we
- 14:45still are and what we need to become by the grace of God.
- 14:49But that God in his mercy looks at us and he sees this blood
- 14:52that's been shed and that we're his children, that we're covered
- 14:56by this blood, not having a righteousness of our own, Amen,
- 15:00but the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- 15:02That should give you such hope today and such confidence and
- 15:05such comfort that as He sees you, He chooses to see you
- 15:11clothed in the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ.
- 15:14And we need to be reminded of that when we look at each other
- 15:17and we see the warts and the stains and the failings and the
- 15:19struggles. Try to ask the Lord to give you
- 15:22a vision of one another that you're wearing a robe that's
- 15:26white and it's pure and you're not looking at all the
- 15:28inconsistencies or the weaknesses of one another's
- 15:31lives, but you're looking at each other as God sees you
- 15:35holding him without blame before him in love.
- 15:40And they're waving these palms and these palms are symbols of
- 15:42rejoicing and gladness and, and they and they begin to sing and
- 15:46all this worship that's going on in the Kingdom of heaven, as
- 15:49Rick talked about it, says they're crying with a loud voice
- 15:53saying salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne into
- 15:57the lamb. Salvation belongs to our God, no
- 16:01one else. Only God has the authority and
- 16:04the ability to save us. All the angels stood around the
- 16:08throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and they
- 16:10fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God,
- 16:14saying Amen, blessings and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and
- 16:19honor and power, and might be to our God forever and ever.
- 16:24Amen. I know so little about this kind
- 16:30of worship, but I long to experience it more alone with
- 16:36God. We all have a ritual, I hope in
- 16:40the morning, something that we do personally be before us and
- 16:44our God before we leave our homes, before we leave our
- 16:48families. It's there's some place in the
- 16:49house that we get alone with God where only He can see us, and we
- 16:56get on our faces before Him. And we worship him this way,
- 17:02pouring out our hearts to Him, asking him to examine our
- 17:05hearts, to search us, to know us, to see if there's anything
- 17:09in us that needs to be removed and to be taken out.
- 17:14And this is true worship, guys. I mean, as good as this worship
- 17:17is here this morning, right? It can't come faintly close to
- 17:24what this worship is like in the throne room of heaven.
- 17:29I think the beautiful thing is when we enter into that place,
- 17:32we're not going to have to look around and say, what are they
- 17:33doing? How do you do this?
- 17:35We're all going to be in unison. We're all going to be on our
- 17:37face and it's just going to all come together because worthy is
- 17:40the Lamb that's slain before the foundation of the earth.
- 17:42We'll see him and we'll all fall on our face and worship Him.
- 17:49True worship. We see here adoration and
- 17:52Thanksgiving and prayer, praise. And I think just to throw this
- 17:57out to you, what is our worship like?
- 18:01Is it too casual? Is there ever a time in your
- 18:04life or mine that it's it's OK to fall on our face before him?
- 18:09I mean, if they do it here, I would think it would be OK to do
- 18:13it here too, right at home. You got all these pews in a way
- 18:17it's tough to get on your face when the pews are in a way, you
- 18:20know, the first church had no pews when they, when they do the
- 18:23historical study of the, the original church places of
- 18:27gathering, of course they worshipped in homes whenever
- 18:29they began to have places of assembly.
- 18:31There was no such thing as pews. There was no such thing as
- 18:34chairs. People stood like whenever Esau
- 18:39whenever help me guys, was it Esau that was proclaiming the
- 18:43word and everybody stood up Ezra, I'm sorry.
- 18:46Good. Your guys are listening here.
- 18:47You're paying attention. But you know, they all stood up
- 18:50to hear the word of God and they stood up for hours.
- 18:52They weren't like man, I'm tired.
- 18:53Can't I sit down? No, they they stood up to hear
- 18:56the word all day through Ezra the servant as Nehemiah was also
- 19:01involved in that. And so there was there was room
- 19:04to to fall on the face of of on our faces before God.
- 19:08Sometimes we give people an opportunity to end to the
- 19:10service, to come up and get before the Lord on their faces.
- 19:13Our culture is, is too, I don't know, smooth nowadays That that
- 19:18may be in most places isn't looked upon as being something
- 19:21that's reasonable. Because what, what would someone
- 19:23think if I did that? I'm messed up.
- 19:26And I yeah, I mean, I need to. Sometimes I just want to come up
- 19:29here and fall on my face because God is worthy to be on my face
- 19:32before. And maybe I'm reminded that I
- 19:35need to do that corporately with my brothers and sisters.
- 19:37I mean, no pressure on anybody, but that's something that we, we
- 19:41provide here for, for people to do.
- 19:43But I think about this, this worship and I, I long to be in
- 19:47this, this kind of worship one day in the throne room of
- 19:50heaven. And as we worship God on this
- 19:54earth in this way, God scans our hearts and he reveals our
- 19:59motives. I find it very, very important
- 20:01when I'm alone with God, he shows me my, my heart.
- 20:06He shows me what I need to see that I can't see.
- 20:10If I don't put myself in this position of a brokenness and
- 20:13humility before him, if I'm too busy discharging out and running
- 20:16and just doing what I think I'm going to do, I'm missing.
- 20:18What God wants to say to me, and that's still quiet moment.
- 20:22I'm too busy, I'm distracted. But I encourage you to to do
- 20:26something in the morning or at night, whatever is best for you,
- 20:28where you have that time to give God an opportunity to to speak
- 20:33to you, but also a time where you can begin to worship God in
- 20:37a new way and not so much, Lord, I got this problem.
- 20:39I need your help. And how about I do?
- 20:41But can we just say, Lord, you're worthy, worthy of you,
- 20:44and we just repeat these things. Amen.
- 20:47Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power
- 20:50and might be to our God forever and ever, Amen.
- 20:52That's a great thing to be praying, isn't it?
- 20:55Make that part of your prayer. Doesn't get any better than
- 20:59that. That's the word of God.
- 21:01And verse 13 and one of the elders answered saying to me,
- 21:04who are these arrayed in white robes and where do they come
- 21:07from? And I said to him, Sir, you know
- 21:10they came out of the great tribulation, this end time
- 21:13period which will eventually end prior to the second coming of
- 21:19Christ. Verse chapter 24 of Matthew,
- 21:23verse 31. It says, For then shall be great
- 21:25tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world
- 21:30to this time, nor shall ever be. Therefore they are before the
- 21:36throne of God in verse 15 and serve him day and night in his
- 21:39temple, and he who sits in the throne will dwell among them.
- 21:45That again, at this astounding picture of the throne room of
- 21:50God, the privilege that these folks have to be before his
- 21:54throne, serving Him day and night in his temple.
- 21:58We won't need sleep in heaven. We're going to have new bodies.
- 22:01We're going to have energy that we never could imagine.
- 22:06And here's this Lamb of God sitting on the throne who will
- 22:10be dwelling among us. They shall neither hunger
- 22:13anymore. We're now we're going to eat in
- 22:15heaven, guys, don't be discouraged about that.
- 22:17We're going to have that great marriage supper, the lamb.
- 22:19We're all going to be able to eat, you know, but you're not
- 22:22going to be up there starving. When are we going to eat?
- 22:25There's not going to be any more thirst.
- 22:27The sun shall not strike us down, nor any heat.
- 22:30For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them
- 22:34and lead them to living fountains of waters.
- 22:36And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes so that
- 22:40we're going to have this safety in heaven.
- 22:43And we're going to be continually immersed in the
- 22:46blood of Jesus Christ that never loses its power, the fountain of
- 22:50God that washes us and keeps us pure for all eternity.
- 22:56There'll be no more tears. What's that going to be like?
- 23:00I still cry, don't you? There's still things that affect
- 23:03me. There's still things I'm
- 23:04burdened over. There's still things I'm
- 23:07concerned about or I don't understand.
- 23:10And sometimes when you're alone and you're, you're crying out to
- 23:13God, there's only one person who can comfort you.
- 23:16Your friends can give you solace.
- 23:18Your loved ones can put their arm around you.
- 23:21But there's only one that can really touch your heart and tell
- 23:24you it's going to be OK. And he's faithful to do that.
- 23:28But one day when we get in his throne room, all the stuff that
- 23:32we've been through in this world and this life, all the
- 23:34injustices are the things we didn't understand why they
- 23:37happened the way they happened. It won't matter because he's
- 23:40going to wipe away the tears. And he says there'll be no more.
- 23:43Later on in Revelation, there'll be no more remembrance of the
- 23:46former things for the former things have all passed away.
- 23:49What a day that'll be. I have a lot of celebrating to
- 23:53do throughout all eternity. This has been Living Waters of
- 23:59Grace with Pastor Clark. We're going through the
- 24:01challenging and also intriguing Book of Revelation.
- 24:05Whether you're a fan of reading ahead in books of fiction,
- 24:08there's such a benefit to reading ahead in the Bible to
- 24:11read about how it all ends. But in an interesting turn of
- 24:15events, the Book of Revelation is not really the end, but
- 24:20rather the beginning. Life as we know it here on
- 24:23earth. But there's so much to look
- 24:25forward to. But what comes after all?
- 24:27The judgement of the earth and those who reject God?
- 24:31There's a lot to work through, and it can be heartbreaking to
- 24:35read through the intense judgements and wrath that will
- 24:38come on those who hate God with all their might.
- 24:42The thing is, God has given chance upon chance to these
- 24:45people. They don't want it.
- 24:47So the outcome is that there are judgments and consequences for
- 24:52those who've rejected the good news and the gift of salvation
- 24:56that's offered through Jesus's death and resurrection.
- 25:00Are you one who has heard about these things but doesn't really
- 25:04want it because you want to live life on your terms?
- 25:08Trust me, living for Jesus is so much better.
- 25:13That doesn't mean it will be easy, but as you listen and read
- 25:16through Revelation with us, you'll come to a stark
- 25:19realization that you don't want to be on earth when the
- 25:22apocalypse happens. So check out Calvary Chapel
- 25:27online.com to learn how to come to a saving grace through faith
- 25:31that will allow you to be with Jesus for eternity.
