- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Hey there.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Today I want to just kind of help you draw some awareness around something that might be holding you back.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: It's an inner block that we all have.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And the good news is that when we notice it, when we notice we're doing it, we can make necessary shift to experience a different perspective or a different view of the situation.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And the inner block I'm talking about today is an assumption.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: An assumption is an expectation that because something has happened in the past, well, it'll happen again.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: The dictionary defines it as a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen without proof.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And assumptions are one of the big four inner blocks that limit how we see things, how we experience things.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Energetically, they are constructing a narrow lens that makes it difficult to imagine other possibilities other than the ones that you've already decided are going to be.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Imagine.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Imagine that you're heading into a meeting that you're required to attend.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: You've been there before, you've been to these kinds of meetings before, and there's data to support that previous meetings have been contentious.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Certain players have acted predictably, or you haven't felt heard.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: When we operate from the assumption that things will be the same way, we limit our capacity for energetic choice.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Going in with the assumption that you're not going to be heard might lead you to the energetic choice of I can't.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I can't say anything I want without being criticized.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So you hold back from sharing your ideas.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: If you're feeling defensive about it, if you're operating from I have to, you might say, I have to protect myself from being overrun.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Immediately being defensive, stripping any possibilities for collaboration.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Or maybe, maybe you're operating from I should.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I should be better at expressing myself, shaming yourself into silence instead of practicing presence.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: You see how that works?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: When we're operating from an assumption, that's exactly what we see and what we find and what we co-create.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: It is perfectly natural to draw from what we already know, to make assumptions and mental shortcuts about what we don't.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: But the beginner's mindset offers another way.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: What if you didn't assume that things were going to be the same way?
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: There's so much to glean from our childlike curiosity of that beginner's mindset.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And I invite all of us to open our minds as if seeing something for the very first time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: There's an opportunity in doing things repeatedly, in doing things that become part of your routine, to look at them differently.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: The learning is immense.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: You know, there was a time when I was in a tap dance class and I took a class that was much lower than the level that I was as an expert tap dancer.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: But I had heard that this teacher was wonderful and I had some time on my schedule.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: So I jumped in willingly.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I'm always willing to jump in and learn.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And what stands out in this teaching is that she had me doing a step that I've known how to do for decades without realizing that I was doing the step.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Now, how did she do this?
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: She did this by approaching it in a different way than I had in the past.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: She could have just said, do a triple time step, and I would have, on automatic pilot, known what that meant and assumed that I knew what she meant and done it.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: She did not do this.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: She broke it down in a different way.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: And because it was slow and because it was not my level, I looked at it differently.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I was honing each sound.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I was I was working on the mastery of clarity and I was just approaching the step differently.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't until I was dancing it that I had a an aha moment, which was this is just a a triple time step.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: But was it really?
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I share that with you because this learning a step that I'd known for so many years from a beginner's mindset, keep in mind, everybody was learning it for the first time, offered me so much possibility to see things differently and to experience things differently.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Think of a situation in your own life where you've caught yourself assuming, because it's always been this way, it always will be.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: What possibilities might open up for you if you approached that situation with beginners' eyes?
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Curious, present, and willing to see it differently than the way you saw it when you assumed how it would be.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: What might change if you allowed yourself to imagine a different outcome?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Everything is new if you choose to look at it through fresh eyes.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: You are different in every moment.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: The world is different in every moment.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: You have never been here before.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Life is infinite, my friends.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Do not assume anything.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Everything's possible.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I'm Lisa Hopkins.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Stay safe and healthy, everyone, and remember to live in the moment.
