Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
• 0:08
weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
• 0:11
ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Wednesday,
• 0:16
May 27th, 2026. Let's get you caught up. A deadly
• 0:20
crafts investigation is causing major closures
• 0:23
this morning along Stockton Boulevard in South
• 0:25
Sacramento. Stockton Boulevard remains shut down
• 0:29
between Lawrence Drive and Fruitridge Road following
• 0:31
a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle collision.
• 0:34
Authorities have not released information on
• 0:36
the victim, and there's no current estimated
• 0:39
time on when the roadway will reopen and investigators
• 0:42
continue processing the scene. In a separate
• 0:46
overnight incident, CHP responded to a solo vehicle
• 0:49
rollover near southbound Highway 99 off -ramp
• 0:52
to Fruitridge Road just before 1 a .m. CHP logs
• 0:56
indicate the vehicle rolled off the roadway.

overnight. And earlier this week, Sacramento
• 1:08
police arrested a suspect following a pursuit
• 1:10
involving a stolen vehicle near Del Paso Boulevard
• 1:13
and Northgate Boulevard. Officers say the driver
• 1:16
refused to stop, leading police on a short vehicle
• 1:18
pursuit before fleeing on foot. After a lengthy
• 1:22
foot chase, the suspect was safely detained.
• 1:25
Officers also recovered an illegally possessed
• 1:27
firearm at the scene. And the suspect was arrested
• 1:31
on related charges. In City Watch, starting June
• 1:36
1st, more California college students may qualify
• 1:39
for CalFresh benefits. Sacramento County officials
• 1:42
say expanded eligibility rules could help more
• 1:45
students at California community colleges, CSU
• 1:48
campuses, and UC schools access grocery assistance
• 1:52
while pursuing their education. The county's
• 1:56
Department of Human Assistance is encouraging
• 1:58
students to check eligibility requirements and
• 2:01
apply, saying the changes are aimed to reducing
• 2:04
food insecurity and helping students stay focused
• 2:07
academically. More information is available through
