- 1:13Speaker 5: we get to We got several guests on the show today.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Got a pretty serious situation that developed in St. Albans
- 1:19Speaker 5: earlier this morning. There is a shooting investigation. Deputy or
- 1:23Speaker 5: police officers there were trying to execute a search warrant.
- 1:26Speaker 5: We're going to go now and talk to Sheriff Joe Crawford. Sheriff,
- 1:30Speaker 5: Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me, Thank you for.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Being here, Thanks for being here on short notice. We
- 1:36Speaker 5: just this happened a little after six am this morning
- 1:40Speaker 5: at the B Street apartments in St. Albans. What can
- 1:42Speaker 5: you tell us, Sheriff.
- 1:44Speaker 6: Yeah, early this morning around fam the St. Albans Police
- 1:47Speaker 6: Department was executing a search for warrant and an arrest
- 1:53Speaker 6: warrant for the City of Charleston concerning one of their
- 1:56Speaker 6: shootings this week. Immediately upon their entry, knocking and announcing
- 2:04Speaker 6: and meet. Upon their entry, they started receiving heavy gun
- 2:08Speaker 6: fire from the inside of the department that they were
- 2:11Speaker 6: executing search one off.
- 2:14Speaker 5: And this was the Saint Albans Police Department that was
- 2:17Speaker 5: fired upon. Is that right?
- 2:18Speaker 6: That is correct? Charleston p D was there with their detectives.
- 2:22Speaker 6: They were the ones that obtained the search one had
- 2:24Speaker 6: the arrest one. So due to the fact serious nature
- 2:28Speaker 6: of the the incident there, they contacted Stall's PD and
- 2:33Speaker 6: had their Special Response Team execute and search one.
- 2:37Speaker 5: And I understand that you that that the police officers
- 2:40Speaker 5: did not fire upon the residents. Is that right?
- 2:43Speaker 6: That is correct. It's still early on, like I said,
- 2:46Speaker 6: we will be processing the scene rest of the day
- 2:49Speaker 6: and hopefully we'll have some more information available later on
- 2:52Speaker 6: this afternoon. But uh, that's what we know so far.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Like I said, they took heavy gunfire, did not return fire.
- 2:59Speaker 6: I think it showed great restraint on those members of
- 3:04Speaker 6: their SRT team, So you know, they're highly trained. They
- 3:09Speaker 6: just did a professional job. So good thing is nobody
- 3:13Speaker 6: was hurt and we're thankful for that. We're thankful we're
- 3:17Speaker 6: able to go ahead and take them into custods. We've
- 3:20Speaker 6: been called in to do the criminal side on this
- 3:22Speaker 6: shooting incident. That's how we got involved. They notified us
- 3:25Speaker 6: and requested us to come in and investigate this side
- 3:29Speaker 6: of the criminal size since both of their agencies were involved.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Do we know the identity of the person who was
- 3:34Speaker 5: taken into custody yet?
- 3:37Speaker 6: I don't have that information available right now, but it
- 3:39Speaker 6: was apparently one of the charlest PD suspect that they
- 3:44Speaker 6: had in their shooting, one of the shootings.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Okay, and again this is an ongoing investigation. But the
- 3:50Speaker 5: good news is is no one here was injured. The
- 3:52Speaker 5: reports are that there was other people inside that apartment,
- 3:56Speaker 5: but luckily no one was injured. And again this was
- 3:59Speaker 5: a co operative effort. This was a from what I understand,
- 4:02Speaker 5: it was a suspect wanted in a shooting in by
- 4:04Speaker 5: the City of Charleston Police Department. Saint Albans Police Department
- 4:07Speaker 5: was involved in this as well as the Canaw County
- 4:09Speaker 5: Sheriff's Department. Hey, Sheriff, I appreciate you coming in on
- 4:12Speaker 5: short notice, and we'll be expecting more details to come
- 4:15Speaker 5: out a little bit later on today. Thanks a lot, Thanks.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Dave for having me. Y'all take care and have a good.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Day, all right, Sheriff Joe Crawford Again in that news
- 4:23Speaker 5: as I said, about six six am this morning, officers
- 4:26Speaker 5: were called to investigate. Well, what happened was they were
- 4:30Speaker 5: trying to execute a search warm and this was the St.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Albans Police Department, and this was a shooting that was
- 4:36Speaker 5: that happened in the Charleston area with Charleston p D.
- 4:39Speaker 5: But the Sheriff's officers were kind of the ones that
- 4:42Speaker 5: kind of put all this thing together. That's why we
- 4:43Speaker 5: had the Sheriff's department on here. And apparently as they
- 4:46Speaker 5: were attempting to execute the warrant, shots were fired at
- 4:49Speaker 5: police officers. Police officers did not fire back, and the
- 4:54Speaker 5: suspect was taken into custody. We do expect further information
- 4:57Speaker 5: to become available later today. Stories we posted at wv
- 5:01Speaker 5: Metronews dot com at wchsnetwork dot com. Appreciate Shriff Joe
- 5:05Speaker 5: Crawford for joining us on the program to talk about
- 5:08Speaker 5: that today. All right, welcome to the show. We do
- 5:11Speaker 5: the show each Monday through Friday from the Jared Construction Studios,

- 5:35Speaker 5: page for more information. We're just a couple of days
- 5:37Speaker 5: away from the TBT, the basketball tournament with the Kyle
- 5:40Speaker 5: Seaman Convention Center. Jared West had a little trouble hooking
- 5:43Speaker 5: op with him yesterday. Hopefully we'll have him on the
- 5:45Speaker 5: show today, the coach of TBT of the Best Virginia team.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Of course, he's going to be coaching his son in
- 5:52Speaker 5: the tournament, so we're going to talk to Coach West
- 5:54Speaker 5: about that. Also, going back to the crime blotter, a
- 5:57Speaker 5: very horrific story to Putnam County where there was a
- 6:02Speaker 5: woman that was charged in the death of a sixteen
- 6:04Speaker 5: day old baby. Now another man has been charged in
- 6:07Speaker 5: that that information coming out yesterday. The prosecutor for Putnam County,
- 6:12Speaker 5: Chris Raines, is going to join us to talk about
- 6:14Speaker 5: that as well. So we got a lot to get
- 6:15Speaker 5: to today. Let's lighten it up a little bit at
- 6:18Speaker 5: least for a little while. I's bringing our good friend
- 6:20Speaker 5: Millie Snyder.
- 6:20Speaker 7: How you doing, Melly, I'm doing great, and thank you
- 6:23Speaker 7: for saying that. We're going to lighten it.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Up just for a moment because we have Fortunately.
- 6:28Speaker 7: This morning is very scary.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Yeah it is. Yes, Happy National Hot Dog Day.
- 6:34Speaker 7: I am so happy to hear that. I mean, it
- 6:36Speaker 7: just fills my heart with joy. And if most people
- 6:40Speaker 7: knew what they put into a hathorg, they would think twice,
- 6:44Speaker 7: not about eating a second one. They would think about
- 6:48Speaker 7: whether they want to eat the first one. But I'm
- 6:50Speaker 7: just making that statement, okay, because see, I know so
- 6:53Speaker 7: much about what's good for you and what's bad for you,
- 6:56Speaker 7: because that's what I do. And you know, I want
- 6:59Speaker 7: to tell you I'm working on podcasts here with your
- 7:03Speaker 7: station and enjoying it very very much. But the thing
- 7:07Speaker 7: that I am wanting to impart is the message that
- 7:12Speaker 7: I have for so many of us, and that is
- 7:15Speaker 7: to try and get a handle on why our weight
- 7:19Speaker 7: is out of kilter. And by out of kilter, I
- 7:22Speaker 7: mean that it's working against us rather than for us.
- 7:27Speaker 7: One of the greatest compliments that I receive from people
- 7:30Speaker 7: that I meet along the way, someone will say to me, so,
- 7:35Speaker 7: how did you get involved with weight watchers? And to me,
- 7:38Speaker 7: that is like magic to my ears, because I grew
- 7:42Speaker 7: up as an obese person and I didn't make any
- 7:48Speaker 7: real changes until I was twenty four years old, and
- 7:52Speaker 7: I'm no longer that age, by the way, I'm now
- 7:54Speaker 7: just twenty six and older time just.
- 7:56Speaker 5: A little Well, what was it that made you want
- 7:58Speaker 5: to make that change?
- 8:00Speaker 7: Because it became my idea, And when I was ready,
- 8:04Speaker 7: absolutely ready. I was also encouraged by the man that
- 8:09Speaker 7: I was dating at the time, because he was he
- 8:11Speaker 7: had a terrific, a horrific weight problem. And of course
- 8:15Speaker 7: I was still in denial about my own I thought
- 8:18Speaker 7: I just had big bones, and not that I had
- 8:21Speaker 7: any that not that they were covered with any fat.
- 8:24Speaker 5: They were just big bones, big meat on those bones.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Yes, And so a lot of my hesitation was personal denial.
- 8:32Speaker 7: But when I made him join, and the reason I
- 8:36Speaker 7: made him join is because I was hoping that he
- 8:40Speaker 7: would come back and say to me, you do not
- 8:44Speaker 7: have to go. It's not going to work. And finally,
- 8:48Speaker 7: after many, many many weeks of him putting it off
- 8:51Speaker 7: and making lots of excuses, he joined. And I waited
- 8:55Speaker 7: patiently for him to call me that evening to tell
- 8:58Speaker 7: me what I knew he was going to say. And when
- 9:02Speaker 7: I when my mother, because I lived with her at
- 9:04Speaker 7: the time, when she handed me the receiver, he said
- 9:09Speaker 7: to me, and by the way, he is Harvey. His
- 9:12Speaker 7: name was Harvey Snyder. By the way, today, if Harvey
- 9:15Speaker 7: had lived, would be his birthday. But he's been gone
- 9:18Speaker 7: a long time. At any rate, he did not say
- 9:22Speaker 7: what I wanted him to say. He said to me,
- 9:24Speaker 7: you're going next week, and you know that falling in
- 9:27Speaker 7: love stuff. I said, okay, But when I hung up
- 9:30Speaker 7: the phone, I said many choice words that I cannot
- 9:33Speaker 7: repeat on.
- 9:34Speaker 5: The air, Please don't.
- 9:35Speaker 7: And the next week, from that evening until the following Thursday,
- 9:41Speaker 7: September the eighth, when I actually joined White Watchers, I
- 9:45Speaker 7: ate as though a famine was going to fall on
- 9:48Speaker 7: Baltimore City, and you don't have to like it, you
- 9:51Speaker 7: just eat it because it's not eating you. And when
- 9:55Speaker 7: I joined, I was angry. I was angry at the
- 9:58Speaker 7: world because it everyone else's fault. I never learned how
- 10:02Speaker 7: to take responsibility for my own behavior. And I want
- 10:06Speaker 7: to address the fact that so many people who have
- 10:10Speaker 7: a weight problem, they're looking at drugs to fix it,
- 10:13Speaker 7: but until they understand how they learned their eating habits
- 10:17Speaker 7: and from where they came. Mother, father, sister, neighbor, So
- 10:23Speaker 7: many of us in West Virginia live next door to
- 10:25Speaker 7: our grandmother and our first aunt and our second uncle,
- 10:29Speaker 7: and their eating habits are the ones that are duplicated
- 10:34Speaker 7: and practiced day in and day out, and we develop
- 10:40Speaker 7: our weight problem by what we see and what we
- 10:44Speaker 7: learn and what is made available. We make sure that
- 10:47Speaker 7: we send our children off with a good breakfast. What
- 10:51Speaker 7: is a good breakfast as opposed to a bad breakfast?
- 10:54Speaker 7: I mean, there's nothing wrong with toast and a poached egg,
- 10:58Speaker 7: but so many families don't do it that way. They
- 11:03Speaker 7: take that egg and they fry it and lar it
- 11:04Speaker 7: along with the bacon, that the fat that comes off
- 11:07Speaker 7: of that, with fried potatoes. They're making sure that we
- 11:10Speaker 7: have a good breakfast.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Or they do. You know some sort of cereal which
- 11:14Speaker 5: is loaded with sugar, which is your natural enemy.
- 11:17Speaker 7: Absolutely it is. It is my natural enemy on the
- 11:22Speaker 7: Mediterranean lifestyle. But actually sugar should be more of an
- 11:26Speaker 7: enemy to all of us because it's causing a lot
- 11:29Speaker 7: of havoc.
- 11:29Speaker 5: I saw something, and I don't have the exact statistic
- 11:32Speaker 5: in front of me, but you probably saw the story too.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Is reported I think last week that one out of
- 11:37Speaker 5: every four young people. And if I'm getting this wrong,
- 11:40Speaker 5: somebody can correct me. But I think it was one
- 11:42Speaker 5: out of every four young people is considered to be
- 11:45Speaker 5: pre diabetic. Yes, one out of every four young people.
- 11:48Speaker 5: This is not absolutely people my age or your age.
- 11:50Speaker 5: We're talking about kids and that teens.
- 11:54Speaker 7: And that wreaks havoc with their health, their ability to
- 11:57Speaker 7: grow into a normal body and live the way they're
- 12:01Speaker 7: supposed to, because diabetes is nothing to make light of.
- 12:07Speaker 7: And I grew up in that whole atmosphere. My father,
- 12:11Speaker 7: who was the mentor who made me fat. I was
- 12:14Speaker 7: a normal sized kid. I actually have pictures to prove
- 12:17Speaker 7: up at age five and six. Then I was a
- 12:20Speaker 7: normal sized kid. And then my father took me under
- 12:23Speaker 7: his wing and I learned how to eat from him,
- 12:26Speaker 7: and eat we did. And that's one of the things
- 12:29Speaker 7: that I'm sharing in my story because I want people
- 12:32Speaker 7: to understand. I just didn't wake up one day and say, oh,
- 12:36Speaker 7: I think I'm going to be fat. That's not the
- 12:38Speaker 7: way it happens. I lived what I learned, and in
- 12:43Speaker 7: my podcast, I'm telling that story. And my Mediterranean Mindset
- 12:48Speaker 7: group that meets over at the Goodwill building on the
- 12:52Speaker 7: West Side of Charleston. It's right up by the bridge,
- 12:56Speaker 7: so it's very easy to find. We meet there Thursday
- 12:58Speaker 7: morning at ten am, and we have people who are very,
- 13:02Speaker 7: very successful learning and living the Mediterranean lifestyle.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Well, tell us about this podcast because we have to
- 13:09Speaker 5: wrap it up.
- 13:10Speaker 7: Well, he's not ready to be published yet.
- 13:11Speaker 5: You've been working on it. Oh, yes, with Matt Guitar Murphy.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Our staff here great.
- 13:16Speaker 7: You have a great staff here, Your studios are beautiful,
- 13:20Speaker 7: and I'm just enjoying the experience. But we're a long
- 13:23Speaker 7: way from getting it on the air. But what I'm
- 13:25Speaker 7: doing is telling my story and I just want people
- 13:30Speaker 7: to know that drugs are not the answer, because you
- 13:33Speaker 7: have to change your mind about your body. And it
- 13:37Speaker 7: took me twenty four years to get to that place
- 13:40Speaker 7: in my life. But I took every diet pill known
- 13:43Speaker 7: to man and beast, and every drug medication that was
- 13:48Speaker 7: advertised on television or in magazines, and none of them
- 13:51Speaker 7: worked until I wanted to be different, and that happened
- 13:57Speaker 7: in nineteen sixty six.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Been going strong ever since.
- 14:00Speaker 7: And I hope four years to come.
- 14:02Speaker 5: All right, Millie Snyder, appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.

- 17:08Speaker 3: Good morning, Dave, thank you for having me on.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. And I want to start
- 17:12Speaker 5: by saying that you have to be very careful. You
- 17:15Speaker 5: know what it is that you say in this case,
- 17:17Speaker 5: but it's definitely this a story I guess just hit yesterday.
- 17:21Speaker 5: So I want to be respectful of you and what
- 17:23Speaker 5: it is you're allowed to say and what you can't say.
- 17:25Speaker 5: But can you take us through the timeline of this
- 17:28Speaker 5: case as best you can realize the sensitive nature of
- 17:33Speaker 5: the case.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Sure last year, I believe on June fourth, twenty twenty four,
- 17:41Speaker 3: Brooke and Jacob Kessler had their baby. From very early on,
- 17:47Speaker 3: Brooke was experiencing signs of postpartum, so much so that
- 17:53Speaker 3: they decided to let the paternal grandmother take care of
- 17:57Speaker 3: the baby for about a week of its short life,
- 18:01Speaker 3: just because she was not really showing a lot of
- 18:03Speaker 3: interest in the baby.
- 18:05Speaker 12: She was also.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Frustrated with her lack of being able to burp the
- 18:11Speaker 3: baby and things like that early on. When the baby
- 18:16Speaker 3: was injured, that was about June twentieth, so, like you said,
- 18:21Speaker 3: it was she was sixteen days old. The police were
- 18:25Speaker 3: involved immediately they spoke to the mother Brooks. She indicated
- 18:30Speaker 3: that she was frustrated with her efforts as a mother
- 18:34Speaker 3: and she may have squeezed the baby harmed the baby,
- 18:38Speaker 3: because not only did the baby have some severe head trauma,
- 18:43Speaker 3: but she also had broken ribs and a broken arm.
- 18:47Speaker 3: So Brooke was arrested and placed in custody shortly after
- 18:51Speaker 3: June twentieth. I believe she's been in custody since about
- 18:53Speaker 3: June twenty first. The father has been giving statements to
- 18:59Speaker 3: the leaf for the last year, and we've noticed that
- 19:04Speaker 3: there were inconsistent statements with what his recitation of the
- 19:11Speaker 3: events were, as well as how this story led to
- 19:16Speaker 3: the baby's injuries. And his last statement to the police
- 19:20Speaker 3: was made a couple months ago, and it was significant
- 19:25Speaker 3: enough for us to go forward with charges against him
- 19:28Speaker 3: as well. So Brooke was originally indicted by Putnam County
- 19:33Speaker 3: grand jury in November of twenty twenty four, but just
- 19:38Speaker 3: this week, our most recent grand jury indicted both the
- 19:43Speaker 3: parents in relation to this death of this sweet little baby.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Talking again to the prosecuted attorney there out of Putnam County,
- 19:51Speaker 5: Chris Rains, So, you said that there were some inconsistent
- 19:55Speaker 5: statements in continuation in question the father in this case,
- 20:02Speaker 5: I'm presuming you mean by that that the stories just
- 20:04Speaker 5: weren't adding up. He was saying something at one time
- 20:07Speaker 5: and he comes back a week letters to something else
- 20:08Speaker 5: or something like. Is that what you mean by that?
- 20:11Speaker 3: Yes, that's correct. Not only in what their knowledge of
- 20:15Speaker 3: the injuries were.
- 20:16Speaker 12: But just.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Some interviews. He would indicate that he would see his
- 20:24Speaker 3: wife shake the baby early on in the baby's life,
- 20:30Speaker 3: and then toward it got worse and worse until the
- 20:35Speaker 3: third statement, he indicated that she shook her violently about
- 20:39Speaker 3: seven to eight times during during the time that she
- 20:43Speaker 3: was at home with him. Now, again, remember that the
- 20:47Speaker 3: baby wasn't even home with them for one week during
- 20:50Speaker 3: the entire two weeks of her life, for two weeks
- 20:53Speaker 3: and two days, So seven to eight violent shakes of
- 20:56Speaker 3: this baby is something that should have been reported. But
- 21:01Speaker 3: it was also learned that uh, he who was a
- 21:07Speaker 3: corrections officer, had been abusing a prescription to adderall and
- 21:14Speaker 3: was actually coming off of that adderall days before the
- 21:19Speaker 3: baby was injured and died.
- 21:23Speaker 5: So again, Chris, where where where is he now? And
- 21:26Speaker 5: all this because she's been I'm assuming the mother's been
- 21:28Speaker 5: incarcerated the whole time, Is that right?
- 21:30Speaker 12: She is?
- 21:31Speaker 3: She has been. He has been incarcerated since I believe
- 21:34Speaker 3: May seventh or May eighth, and has been. I think
- 21:39Speaker 3: he's in a different facility than Brooke is. And also
- 21:44Speaker 3: being a former corrections officer, I believe that he is
- 21:48Speaker 3: in a different level of custody than than everybody else
- 21:53Speaker 3: for his own safety.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Yeah, for his own safety. And we do want to
- 21:56Speaker 5: point out that everyone is innocent until until proven guilty,
- 21:58Speaker 5: and we will see you will and this will all
- 22:01Speaker 5: come out in the trial. What is the what's the timeline?
- 22:03Speaker 5: What happens next? Chris?
- 22:06Speaker 3: So, we have had some some trial dates set in
- 22:10Speaker 3: Brooks case. Obviously, this indictment will what we call it
- 22:15Speaker 3: the superseding indictment, so it will be start all over
- 22:20Speaker 3: as a as a new case. And usually in Putnam County,
- 22:24Speaker 3: we we set our cases pretty quickly. So I would
- 22:28Speaker 3: be anticipating a late fall or an early maybe winter
- 22:35Speaker 3: trial for these two should they decide to go to
- 22:39Speaker 3: trial in this case.
- 22:40Speaker 5: And I guess they have the right or whatever to decide.
- 22:44Speaker 5: You know, what they're plea is going to be. Uh,
- 22:46Speaker 5: I mean, you know, whatever, whatever they decide to do.
- 22:48Speaker 5: You know, Chris, you've been You've been in in this
- 22:51Speaker 5: field for a long time. But these cases never never
- 22:55Speaker 5: get easy, do they.
- 22:57Speaker 3: No, absolutely not. This is my twenty fifth year as
- 22:59Speaker 3: a prosecutor, and you know, I've seen lots of terrible
- 23:04Speaker 3: things that human beings do to others, but the ones
- 23:08Speaker 3: that are done to children hit the hardest. This is
- 23:11Speaker 3: my second baby murder case. And you just don't forget
- 23:18Speaker 3: these injuries, You don't forget these pictures. You just don't
- 23:22Speaker 3: forget how small and and vulnerable these children are. So
- 23:27Speaker 3: even though I consider myself a hard and prosecutor, these
- 23:33Speaker 3: really are like a gut punch.
- 23:34Speaker 5: I mean. And again, we're talking about a sixteen day
- 23:37Speaker 5: old baby in this case, and as you pointed out
- 23:40Speaker 5: at one point, and it is alleged in this case
- 23:42Speaker 5: that the mother was suffering from postpartum, that the grandmother
- 23:47Speaker 5: actually had the child for a number of days.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yes, and I've talked with that grandmother. I really feel
- 23:55Speaker 3: terrible for her because I think she developed a bond
- 23:58Speaker 3: with this baby. Maybe that her mother and maybe even
- 24:01Speaker 3: her father didn't develop with this baby, but that baby
- 24:05Speaker 3: was loved during the time that she was born, and
- 24:08Speaker 3: I do believe that maybe the parents did have some
- 24:11Speaker 3: good times with her, but they were having trouble overcoming
- 24:16Speaker 3: new parenthood, the lack of sleep. Like I said that
- 24:22Speaker 3: there was an adderall addiction that he was coming off of,
- 24:28Speaker 3: and perhaps some anxiety or some aggression during that time.
- 24:34Speaker 3: So these are all things for These are all hard
- 24:38Speaker 3: things for sober young parents anyway. But then add on
- 24:44Speaker 3: the mental illness of postpartum and then the frustration. But
- 24:49Speaker 3: make no mistake about it that this baby was not
- 24:52Speaker 3: just neglected. She was rutalized. She had numerous brain injuries.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I think ten broken ribs, a broken arm. So this
- 25:05Speaker 3: was not one time shaking baby situation. This this baby
- 25:11Speaker 3: was was beaten or something to cause such severe injuries
- 25:19Speaker 3: that shaking it wouldn't just cause.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Yeah, well, Chris Rains prosecuted. They're in Putnam County. I
- 25:26Speaker 5: appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to be
- 25:27Speaker 5: these These cases never get easier for folks to do
- 25:30Speaker 5: what you do for a living. And it's very difficult
- 25:33Speaker 5: to even hear the story. It's very difficult to talk
- 25:36Speaker 5: about it. And as you you know you you have
- 25:38Speaker 5: to be very careful what you're allowed to say as well.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And and I reached out to you last night when
- 25:43Speaker 5: I first heard the story. And I appreciate the work,
- 25:46Speaker 5: the work that you and the others have done in
- 25:48Speaker 5: this case, and so you'll have to keep us updated.
- 25:51Speaker 5: I appreciate you being here thanks.
- 25:52Speaker 3: A lot, Yes, sir, thank you for this platform.
- 25:54Speaker 5: Yeah, Chris Rains, prosecuted attorney in Putnam County. Yeah, this story.
- 25:59Speaker 5: And and I vaguely, you know, remember the story of
- 26:01Speaker 5: the mother. But then it hit yesterday afternoon that the
- 26:04Speaker 5: father has also been implicated in this story. And look,
- 26:07Speaker 5: you know, I'm a you know me. You've listened to
- 26:10Speaker 5: me for the last five years on this radio station.
- 26:12Speaker 5: I've done this for thirty seven years total. I love
- 26:16Speaker 5: to laugh, I love the joke. And you know, I
- 26:18Speaker 5: don't take people that work with me to tell you,
- 26:20Speaker 5: I don't take a whole lot of stuff seriously. But
- 26:22Speaker 5: in this particular case, I mean, you're talking about a
- 26:24Speaker 5: sixteen day old baby here, and the mother did not
- 26:31Speaker 5: have the kid of the baby for a few of
- 26:35Speaker 5: those days because the grandmother had custody or I guess
- 26:40Speaker 5: it was just keeping the baby. And I thought it
- 26:42Speaker 5: was interesting what Prosecutor Rain said there that how much
- 26:45Speaker 5: empathy she had for the grandmother in this situation, because
- 26:50Speaker 5: it's just it's it's a horrible case all around, and
- 26:56Speaker 5: I just well, you know, it's a horrible case all around.

- 27:26Speaker 5: Snyder to a bad story. We're gonna try to talk
- 27:28Speaker 5: a little a little sports. The basketball tournament is being
- 27:31Speaker 5: held over the Coliseum and Convention Center TBT. Of course,
- 27:34Speaker 5: most of us are keeping an eye on the two
- 27:37Speaker 5: local teams, if you will, Best Virginia and heard that
- 27:40Speaker 5: Best Virginia representing West Virginia University and heard that with Marshall.
- 27:45Speaker 5: And we've got Jared West on the show who is
- 27:48Speaker 5: running a basketball camp now as we speak. So we
- 27:51Speaker 5: had a little trouble hooking up with him yesterday. We
- 27:53Speaker 5: hope that that we got that situation taking care of.
- 27:55Speaker 5: He's coaching and he's actually coaching his son, Jared West Junior,
- 27:59Speaker 5: who played for Marshall. But he's going he's going to
- 28:01Speaker 5: play for Best Virginia because well, yeah, I mean opportunity.
- 28:04Speaker 5: He played for his dad. He talked about the sports
- 28:06Speaker 5: Line a couple of nights ago, So we're going to
- 28:07Speaker 5: talk to him coming up a little bit later on.
- 28:09Speaker 5: But our big story again this morning, as we told
- 28:11Speaker 5: you at the top of the show, and I haven't
- 28:13Speaker 5: had a chance to check the website. If it's not
- 28:15Speaker 5: on the website, it soon will be that there was
- 28:19Speaker 5: an officers fired upon situation in Saint Albans around six
- 28:22Speaker 5: am this morning. Officers were attempting to serve a search
- 28:27Speaker 5: warrant on a person there. This person was wanted for
- 28:30Speaker 5: it led shooting in the city of Charlestown and Saint
- 28:34Speaker 5: Albans Police along with detectors from the city of Charleston
- 28:36Speaker 5: were on the scene. Uh the person inside and there
- 28:39Speaker 5: were other people inside this this apartment allegedly, well he didn't.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Allegedly he did. There was fire exchange. He opened up
- 28:46Speaker 5: the fire he opened fire on the officers. The officers
- 28:48Speaker 5: did not fire back, and he was taken into custody.
- 28:51Speaker 5: We had to Sheriff Joe Crawford on a little bit
- 28:53Speaker 5: earlier talking about that they were kind of facilitating the
- 28:55Speaker 5: whole thing, being the Sheriff's Department here in Knawa County.
- 28:58Speaker 5: But again there were official from the City of Charleston,
- 29:01Speaker 5: from the detective with the Charleston Police Department, and also
- 29:04Speaker 5: from the city of Saint Albans involved in that as well.
- 29:06Speaker 5: That incident happened around six am this morning, could have
- 29:09Speaker 5: turned out a whole lot worse. The person inside again
- 29:13Speaker 5: did fire up on officers. Officers did not return fire,
- 29:15Speaker 5: but they were able to take him into custody. We'll
- 29:18Speaker 5: have full details as they become available throughout the day.

- 32:52Speaker 5: So we're just a couple of days away now from
- 32:54Speaker 5: the TBT. The excitement starting to trickle in a little bit.
- 32:58Speaker 12: Oh yes, so yesterday was great. Yesterday it was great.
- 33:00Speaker 12: We finally got all the all the guys in. We
- 33:02Speaker 12: were able to get a little joint practice at w
- 33:07Speaker 12: and saw some good things, saw some bad things, but
- 33:10Speaker 12: the most important we got ten great guys who are
- 33:14Speaker 12: locked in and ready to represent the state, raid to
- 33:16Speaker 12: represent the WVU. So very very good to yesterday and
- 33:20Speaker 12: just got to continue to build and get ready for Friday.
- 33:22Speaker 5: Talk about that whole process of getting these guys in,
- 33:25Speaker 5: because again, it's just not like an NBA or even
- 33:27Speaker 5: a college you know, when you uh a college program,
- 33:30Speaker 5: when you've had the guys throughout the year and you've
- 33:32Speaker 5: been watching what they eat and you've been watching, you know,
- 33:34Speaker 5: watching them in the gym and that sort of thing.
- 33:36Speaker 5: You got guys coming in from all over and you
- 33:38Speaker 5: got ten guys and basically you got a couple of
- 33:40Speaker 5: days to say, okay, guys, let's pull this thing together.
- 33:43Speaker 12: You're exactly right and getting the guy like we told,
- 33:47Speaker 12: we had Eric and he got a try with the
- 33:49Speaker 12: Mammy Heat. So it's you're reaching out to people and
- 33:53Speaker 12: you just don't know if you're going to get them.
- 33:54Speaker 12: And then the beauty of it is these are professionals.
- 33:59Speaker 12: When we put together the team, I stressed I wanted
- 34:02Speaker 12: to have some adults in the room and professionals, no distractions.
- 34:05Speaker 12: So these guys came in and they're in pretty good
- 34:08Speaker 12: shape already. Now it's just a matter of, you know,
- 34:11Speaker 12: putting together some principals, some cores, uh, the buy in
- 34:15Speaker 12: to what we want to do, to be comforted in
- 34:18Speaker 12: your skin and brace your role and put the team first.
- 34:21Speaker 12: And we have from from the last two days, we've
- 34:24Speaker 12: done a pretty good job of seeing that from these guys.
- 34:26Speaker 12: But they're they're true professionals. So that that's the biggest
- 34:29Speaker 12: a difference between dealing with high school of college. Got
- 34:31Speaker 12: these guys and professionals. They take care of their body
- 34:33Speaker 12: and they're about their business.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Talk about some of the players that you've got on
- 34:37Speaker 5: the team.
- 34:39Speaker 12: Oh, we got a pretty good group. Obviously, we got
- 34:41Speaker 12: Katy Key was the first, the first the first guy
- 34:45Speaker 12: at that signed obviously played a couple of years ago.
- 34:47Speaker 12: Is his dog on defense, brings great intensity, so we're
- 34:52Speaker 12: gonna be relying on him. Little Jared my son, he
- 34:56Speaker 12: he came over from from from Herd that obviously because
- 34:59Speaker 12: I'm coaching, So you're putting in Key together two very
- 35:03Speaker 12: very good defensive guards. They like the pressure and that
- 35:06Speaker 12: type of thing. James Reese played at North Texas, which
- 35:11Speaker 12: and he actually played on that Mean Green team that
- 35:13Speaker 12: I think he went to the championship two or three
- 35:15Speaker 12: years ago, so that was a big, big addition to us.
- 35:17Speaker 12: He's a he's a six to four combo guard that
- 35:20Speaker 12: can shoot it, that that defends well. We Wesley Harris, everybody.
- 35:24Speaker 12: Those are from W sixty nine Wing Active, Live Body.
- 35:29Speaker 12: Three very very big pick ups we've had in the
- 35:31Speaker 12: last three days. Tobya Connie at Dwardo and Trey Mitchell
- 35:36Speaker 12: all w guys. Fans will know those guys. They will
- 35:40Speaker 12: be very very big pieces to the puzzle trade with
- 35:44Speaker 12: leaning on him there to provide some scoring for us
- 35:47Speaker 12: and told he had a great practice yesterday. Let me
- 35:50Speaker 12: see what miss Jay Sanders who MBC Fairmount State. People
- 35:56Speaker 12: will know a lot he scored I think over in
- 35:57Speaker 12: two thousand point to the NBC. He's a six four
- 35:59Speaker 12: shooting he really lights lighted us from the outside. Who
- 36:04Speaker 12: else jd oh, yeah, I mean the last to a
- 36:06Speaker 12: will boy, he's uh MBC. Guys who know him. He
- 36:10Speaker 12: was with Notre Dame College in the NBC and he
- 36:13Speaker 12: won the Accomplience Championship with with coach Tim Kenning t
- 36:16Speaker 12: K who's now the head coach at Farremont. So Will
- 36:19Speaker 12: is a big guy sixteen that he maybe about six
- 36:23Speaker 12: a six now, but very very skilled. And then J. D. Weatherford,
- 36:30Speaker 12: he played at Ohio State sixty six, kind of pushing
- 36:35Speaker 12: him in the in the in the mindset of of
- 36:37Speaker 12: of a Kevin Jones type frame player. So he's a
- 36:41Speaker 12: very very good guy, veteran. So that's the ten we have.
- 36:45Speaker 12: We're trying to get these guys, you know, to mess
- 36:47Speaker 12: and blend. And like I said, yesterday was very very
- 36:51Speaker 12: good for us to put put some things together. But
- 36:55Speaker 12: our defense, if our offense could ever match our defense,
- 36:58Speaker 12: was gonna be scary. Right now, our defense is way
- 37:01Speaker 12: ahead of office.

- 37:15Speaker 5: conducting your campbell. They'll let you get back to it,
- 37:17Speaker 5: but I do have to ask you about the opportunity
- 37:19Speaker 5: to coach your coach your son. I mean you've been
- 37:22Speaker 5: coaching him his whole life, right.
- 37:25Speaker 12: Oh, yes, it's funny. The last time I coached him,
- 37:30Speaker 12: we won the state championship at the CHARLESA Civic Center.
- 37:34Speaker 12: So and I never thought I would get a chance
- 37:36Speaker 12: to coach him again. And then this opportunity came up.
- 37:39Speaker 12: And obviously he's with he was with herd that and
- 37:43Speaker 12: we were looking to get Eric Stevenson. And once Eric
- 37:45Speaker 12: got the try with the Mammy heat John Flowers, general manager,
- 37:50Speaker 12: he was like, we need we need little Jared. We
- 37:52Speaker 12: got to get little Jared. He looked at me and
- 37:54Speaker 12: I said, well, buddy, that you're gonna have to do
- 37:56Speaker 12: that sale that that and John did a great job
- 37:59Speaker 12: recruiting Jared. Jared. You know, he's he had four great
- 38:03Speaker 12: years at Marshall and he loves John Elmore and Ron
- 38:06Speaker 12: I mean, Kabon, those are all these guys. He was
- 38:08Speaker 12: actually visiting in Huntington a couple weeks ago. So uh.
- 38:12Speaker 12: And so then there's a lot of layers to the
- 38:14Speaker 12: w U Marshall West family dynamic. Yeah exactly, I'll just
- 38:19Speaker 12: I'll leave it. Yes, there's a lot of layers to it.
- 38:23Speaker 12: So it was a it was a tough sale. But
- 38:26Speaker 12: once Jared realized that that that float John and Greg
- 38:29Speaker 12: the assistant GM, and I'm coaching, obviously, it made it
- 38:33Speaker 12: a lot. It was a tough decision, but it made
- 38:35Speaker 12: it the easier decision since I'm coaching. But I told Floe,
- 38:39Speaker 12: if we get Little Jared, uh, it'll be dumb for us.
- 38:42Speaker 12: We got to construct the roster to more of a
- 38:45Speaker 12: defensive minded because with Little Jared and Keaty, they're two
- 38:48Speaker 12: of the two of the top on ball defenders that
- 38:52Speaker 12: that were in college basketball in the last twenty years.
- 38:54Speaker 12: So you know, we're gonna use use what we have
- 38:57Speaker 12: to our advantage and be a defense, a mind of team,
- 39:00Speaker 12: but also be able to score. So, uh, it was
- 39:03Speaker 12: a blessing. Yesterday was Yesterday was great to be on
- 39:05Speaker 12: the sideline coaching while he was on the floor and
- 39:09Speaker 12: you just you missed some of his leadership, his and tangibles. Uh,
- 39:13Speaker 12: it was. It was great to be back out there
- 39:15Speaker 12: on the floor weapons. So and he's excited. Uh, like
- 39:18Speaker 12: I said, back to the layers of the WV DOT.
- 39:21Speaker 12: That's the first time he's had WV on his chest.
- 39:25Speaker 12: It was a little weird for him yesterday. I'm not
- 39:27Speaker 12: gonna lie.
- 39:28Speaker 5: I imagine him like looking down at it coaching and
- 39:30Speaker 5: what is this on me? What is this on me?
- 39:33Speaker 3: Man?
- 39:33Speaker 5: Get this off me?
- 39:35Speaker 12: Well, I tell you the layers. We can have a
- 39:37Speaker 12: cold hour of conversation about it. But his locker, so
- 39:40Speaker 12: my closet is full of WU. His closet is full
- 39:44Speaker 12: of Marshall. Once he went to Marshall, mind kind of merged.
- 39:47Speaker 12: But this was the first time him wearing it. But
- 39:50Speaker 12: like I said, the guys Katy especially that they've done
- 39:54Speaker 12: a great job of embracing him, bringing him into the fold.
- 39:58Speaker 12: Because Jared is wired like W. He's a Yvonne Javon Carter,
- 40:05Speaker 12: He's a dog on the He's wired to you know.
- 40:08Speaker 12: So the DNA of W is kind of his DNA.
- 40:11Speaker 12: So it was an easy transition, just a matter of
- 40:15Speaker 12: getting used to us. So it was great. It was great,
- 40:20Speaker 12: and we're excited to continue to move forward with it.
- 40:23Speaker 5: All right, Hey, coach, it's been pleasure talking to you. You
- 40:26Speaker 5: better get back to that camp and good luck with
- 40:28Speaker 5: everything with the TBT. We'll see at the Kyle Sema
- 40:30Speaker 5: Convention Center this weekend.
- 40:31Speaker 12: Thanks a lot, Thank you so so much for your support.
- 40:34Speaker 12: We appreciate it. You don't know much, we appreciate it
- 40:35Speaker 12: all right.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Thank you, Coach Shed Jared West. I can just imagine though,
- 40:40Speaker 5: the amount of crap that he's going to have to
- 40:41Speaker 5: the Jared West Junior is going to have to put
- 40:43Speaker 5: up with after wearing that Marshall after you know, we're
- 40:46Speaker 5: after wearing the Kelly Green now having the blue and
- 40:49Speaker 5: gold on. But hey, you know when your dad calls
- 40:52Speaker 5: and as I said, he's been coaching him his whole
- 40:54Speaker 5: life in one way or the other, you know, telling
- 40:56Speaker 5: him to eat his vegetables or whatever. So uh, I
- 40:59Speaker 5: do want to mention that this this thing is huge
- 41:01Speaker 5: for Charleston. It's it's immensely popular, and we are going
- 41:05Speaker 5: to actually broadcast those games on the Metro News radio network.
- 41:07Speaker 5: We'll have more information on that. We'd like to have
- 41:09Speaker 5: you in person. Note for the TBT over at the
- 41:12Speaker 5: Conliseum and Convention Center. Her that's the Marshall inspired team,

- 41:34Speaker 5: didn't take a whole lot for me to wrap myself
- 41:35Speaker 5: around Ohio University. But anyway, the Bobcats have a there's

- 47:24Speaker 5: and Carol Miller voted to block the release of the
- 47:26Speaker 5: Epstein files. I wonder why if the files exonerated Trump
- 47:30Speaker 5: would Moore and Miller and every other Republican representative want
- 47:34Speaker 5: everyone to know that Trump is innocent. It's because Trump
- 47:37Speaker 5: is guilty of the Epstein stuff. I was, uh last
- 47:41Speaker 5: night watching little television, and of course I was watching
- 47:43Speaker 5: the All Star Game. Did not stay awake for the
- 47:45Speaker 5: dramatic finish, the home run derby finish. That's way past
- 47:50Speaker 5: Papaal's bedtime. But I was watching some of it, and
- 47:53Speaker 5: I flipped over at one point to a couple of
- 47:58Speaker 5: the news shows last night, puting on Hannity for a while,
- 48:00Speaker 5: then I went over to News Nation CNB. I like
- 48:03Speaker 5: to see inn I like to kind of watch them all,
- 48:05Speaker 5: and everybody seemed to be talking about the same thing
- 48:07Speaker 5: with the Epstein files. Is if there's nothing to hide,
- 48:09Speaker 5: why are we hiding? And there's some Republicans, including House
- 48:14Speaker 5: Speaker Mike Johnson, and want some answers as well. We'll
- 48:17Speaker 5: try to get into that a little bit more on
- 48:19Speaker 5: Metro News midday. Let me see Texas breaking. Israel has
- 48:26Speaker 5: struck several targets in Syria, including military buildings in Damascus
- 48:31Speaker 5: after the Syrian regime forces carried out Aribic massacres. It
- 48:36Speaker 5: gets the Joys community in southern Syria the regime failed
- 48:39Speaker 5: to comply with multiple warnings from the Israeli military that,
- 48:41Speaker 5: according to a texture. ABC News will have more on that,
- 48:44Speaker 5: I'm sure coming up at the top of the hour. Texas.
- 48:46Speaker 5: All of Donald Trump's biggest enemies are deathly quiet about
- 48:50Speaker 5: the Epstein list if one exists. If they believed he
- 48:53Speaker 5: was on the list, they'd be on the warpath to
- 48:54Speaker 5: release it. He isn't on it, and they know it,
- 48:57Speaker 5: but all of their friends are so. Again, bends on
- 49:01Speaker 5: your perspective as to who's I'm a big and I'm
- 49:04Speaker 5: not a conspiracy theory person. People that know that about me,
- 49:06Speaker 5: I'm not at all. However, I have watched a little
- 49:10Speaker 5: bit a couple of documentaris at this Epstein thing. I
- 49:12Speaker 5: think there's a whole lot of people on it. I
- 49:13Speaker 5: think there's a whole lot of Republicans, a whole lot
- 49:15Speaker 5: of Democrats, a whole lot of celebrities. I don't go
- 49:17Speaker 5: as far as to say that we were eating children
- 49:20Speaker 5: and you know, doing all in pizza shops and all
- 49:23Speaker 5: this other stuff. I do think there's a whole lot
- 49:25Speaker 5: of people on it, though, and I think it's probably
- 49:27Speaker 5: an equal mix of Republicans and democrats and celebrities and
- 49:30Speaker 5: people you never heard of too. But Dave Alan showing

- 50:27Speaker 5: some of these texts, you can see trumpeters wringing their hands,
- 50:30Speaker 5: just hoping for the Epstein thing to be the issue
- 50:32Speaker 5: that breaks up his supporters. It's despicable. News flash. The
- 50:35Speaker 5: survival of our republic from the high speed, drastic fundamental
- 50:38Speaker 5: transformation of a full fledged communism is much more important

- 50:51Speaker 5: Marxism matters a heck. I cleaned it up a little bit,
- 50:54Speaker 5: a heck of a lot more as a text. So
- 50:58Speaker 5: how are you doing with that roundabout in the South
- 51:01Speaker 5: Charleston Morgan Pemberton A story and pictures posted to wv
- 51:05Speaker 5: Metro news dot com, but taking it a bit slow.
- 51:07Speaker 5: The Jefferson Road project started back in twenty nineteen as
- 51:10Speaker 5: part of the Governor Jim Justine's Roads to Prosperity project.
- 51:14Speaker 5: Now it takes some getting used to. I have not
- 51:18Speaker 5: seen it. I am one though that is set in
- 51:21Speaker 5: the construction on Jefferson Road. I think since model ts
- 51:25Speaker 5: were on it, but I have not actually seen the roundabouts.
- 51:30Speaker 5: Jeff Jenkins was on it. I heard him talking about
- 51:32Speaker 5: the Chris of the Morning News. He said, no problem.
- 51:35Speaker 5: My only thing with the roundabouts You've heard me say
- 51:38Speaker 5: it before is West Virginians have a difficult time with
- 51:40Speaker 5: three and four way stops. So and I yesterday went
- 51:44Speaker 5: to get a haircut and on Putnam County where I
- 51:47Speaker 5: get my haircut, there was three and four. It's a
- 51:51Speaker 5: three way stop and I almost saw a slow speed
- 51:55Speaker 5: accident there because people can't navigate three and four way stops.
- 51:59Speaker 5: So the roundabouts may be a bit of a learning
- 52:01Speaker 5: curve there, just saying all right. Coming up on the
- 52:04Speaker 5: show tomorrow, the acting a lottery director from the Sate
- 52:06Speaker 5: of West Virginia, David Bradley's here, Tim Brady from the
