- 0:00Mom, welcome back to Mommy Wood, the podcast where we dive into
- 0:06the wild, beautiful and sometimes completely crazy world
- 0:11of being both a mom and a performer.
- 0:14I am your host Emily and if you've ever found yourself
- 0:17running on coffee, passion and the sheer willpower of a sleep
- 0:22deprived parent, then you are in the right place.
- 0:25On this episode of Mommy Would I have the pleasure of talking
- 0:29with Ziggy Rabbit? She is an actor, writer and mom
- 0:33of two who is as funny as she is honest about the wild ride of
- 0:38motherhood. Make sure that you check out her
- 0:41content on Instagram. She is so funny.
- 0:46She has great boy mom content and we love it.
- 0:52We love to see it. We talk about on this episode
- 0:57what it's really like to go from one kid to two kids.
- 1:00Spoiler it's both easier and harder.
- 1:04Which isn't that motherhood? We also talk about how every
- 1:10pregnancy and every child comes with totally different
- 1:14experience and why maternal instinct isn't always what
- 1:19people make it out to be. Is it even a thing at all?
- 1:23Another spoiler, No, it is not. Ziggy opens up about the
- 1:27struggle to hold onto her own identity while raising kids.
- 1:32She also talks about the guilt that comes with being a working
- 1:35mom, especially in a creative field, and how scary it can be,
- 1:40but also how rewarding it can be to step back into the workplace
- 1:45after becoming a mom. Plus, we talk about how those
- 1:51little everyday moments with your kids are really what end up
- 1:54meaning the most, which of course, it's always so fun to
- 1:59just like talk about the joy of our kids with each other.
- 2:04I think we need a little bit more of that.
- 2:08So please enjoy. I know you will, this real funny
- 2:12and very relatable episode of Mommy Wood with Siggy Rabbit.
- 2:18Siggy. Yeah.
- 2:19I'm so excited to talk to you too, boy, Mom, two boys.
- 2:25Boys. Oh my goodness.
- 2:27My sister has two boys. Yeah.
- 2:29So I'm like. You're a boy, Mom, You're a boy.
- 2:31Aunt. A boy?
- 2:32Auntie. Yeah, I have a girl.
- 2:35But, well, you could still be an honorary member.
- 2:38Thank you. The girl moms, come at us.
- 2:41Thank you. Yeah, so you have.
- 2:44Shiloh is almost 4. He's 4.
- 2:47Now he's 4. It just happened.
- 2:50Oh my God, it just happened. Yeah, this week.
- 2:53Exciting. Thank you.
- 2:54How old is yours? She'll be 3 on the 16th.
- 2:58This month, yeah. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 3:00Yeah, we're getting there. And then Raleigh.
- 3:03Is 1 1/2 one and a half? Oh.
- 3:06My gosh, so you are like in it in it is is Shiloh in school or
- 3:12no? Oh, he is How so?
- 3:15I'm just going straight into it. How was it going from 1:00 to
- 3:212:00? It in some ways easier, but in
- 3:26many ways harder. Just like the answer to
- 3:28everything. It I had more of an identity
- 3:31crisis when I became a mom, when I went from zero to 1, I was
- 3:35like, wait, wait, this isn't what my, this isn't what my life
- 3:39is like. Why am I in a playpen right now?
- 3:41Like I don't even know what I'm doing.
- 3:42What's my purpose? I had much more of that.
- 3:44Not that I don't, We don't always have that as actors, but
- 3:48I had that. And then with Raleigh, I felt
- 3:51more like, how do I balance to what's this overwhelm this like
- 3:57scheduling thing? Time was more a thing.
- 4:01I put him in daycare much sooner.
- 4:02Oh, OK. So that helps a lot.
- 4:04But of course, that comes with its own set of guilt.
- 4:07And, you know, I didn't do this for my foot.
- 4:09Yeah, money, of course. But I didn't do this for my
- 4:12first. I gave my first more What?
- 4:14So I really had to grapple with, you know, they don't get
- 4:17identical things, but they get equal things.
- 4:20They're just not the same because they have a different
- 4:22mom now. Yeah, isn't that that's
- 4:25interesting because yeah, the first time you're like, I'm all
- 4:29of a sudden a mom, and the second time you're like, well,
- 4:32I'm already a mom, right? But now I'm.
- 4:35Double and I had a little bit of like, let's get on with this
- 4:38part. Like I know this part is hard.
- 4:40Let's just move this first year along.
- 4:42I'm not what you call a baby mom.
- 4:44Like I'm not like, Oh my God, he's crawling and not saying
- 4:49anything and he's very needy. This is so fun.
- 4:52Not to say that most people are, but I think people find it so
- 4:55cute that they're kind of over it that like the difficult part.
- 4:59But for me, I'm like, let's get on with this.
- 5:01Let's get the sleep. Let's start to walk.
- 5:03Let's start to talk. Tell me what you want.
- 5:05Use your words. Isn't.
- 5:07It so much easier. And now he's talking and he's
- 5:10not talking fully. Obviously he's 18 months, but
- 5:12I'm even just a little communication is I actually feel
- 5:17like I can breathe now, like I can.
- 5:19I know what you want. I know what you need for the
- 5:21most part and it's not as helpless of a feeling.
- 5:24Yeah, I, I babysat for a friend. I watched their baby when they
- 5:30were like 6 months or something and I was like, Oh well, what do
- 5:36I do? What do I do?
- 5:37I was like this is obviously it is not easy when you are the
- 5:41parent but I was like. Babies.
- 5:43And this was before you were a mom.
- 5:44No, no, no. You were a mom.
- 5:45This was, yeah, this was like a few, like very recently,
- 5:48probably about six months ago. But I was like, and what do I do
- 5:53with you now? I was like, I feel bad.
- 5:55You're just like laying on the floor.
- 5:57Like, do you want to you need stimulation, right?
- 6:00I was like, I mean, we kept doing stuff, but I was like, my
- 6:04daughter was already like 2 1/2 and I was like, she's doing so
- 6:09much. And I was like this seems.
- 6:12Easy in a lot. Of ways, but then I.
- 6:14Was like, oh, well, I'm not someone else's kid exactly.
- 6:16Like I've definitely done that for my neighbor's kid and
- 6:19watched her baby. And it's like, well, you could
- 6:21just lie here and it's fine because you're kind of easy
- 6:24compared to this. But when you have them, I think
- 6:26your bar overnight, that's a big one during the sleep hours.
- 6:31I also think your bar that that Oh, and my older is getting so
- 6:34much more. You're getting that kind of
- 6:35shifts because you're like, well, you will get that because
- 6:38I know where this is going. So when you're 3, you're 4,
- 6:42you'll get those same kind of, you know, there's less pressure
- 6:45on where this is going because I already know, I already did it
- 6:48once. Have you found that your second
- 6:52that Raleigh's like doing more earlier like because he wants
- 6:58to? He he's like, anyone notice me?
- 7:01Mother? Look at me.
- 7:03I'm doing what Shiloh is doing. Look, mom, I'm walking.
- 7:05It was like 11 months. We were like, what?
- 7:07Why are you already walking? He's like, let me just get this
- 7:10because we you all want this part.
- 7:12Yeah, but at least me. He's like, let's let's do the
- 7:14things that will make all of this easier for everyone.
- 7:17But he's totally imitating. And playing with his.
- 7:20Brother. Yeah, he it's his biggest hero.
- 7:22I mean, he's obsessed with him. How are they 'cause they're not?
- 7:27I feel like what that's about 3. 2 1/2, Yeah. 2 1/2.
- 7:32So and I'm two and a I'm two years from my sister and I'm
- 7:38curious how that is like do they play together yet?
- 7:44Do they fight together like. Are you the younger or the
- 7:47older? I'm the younger.
- 7:49I'm the youngest. I have an older sister and an
- 7:53older brother baby. OK, so you get yeah, very late.
- 8:00It's I'm really witnessing A dynamic happened pretty quickly
- 8:04where Shiloh can kind of be possessive over his stuff.
- 8:09And like, this is mine. You kind of entered my turf.
- 8:12This is this was me mine 1st. And I see that like Raleigh is
- 8:17starting to stand up for himself.
- 8:18But there's a level of Raleigh will also give everything to
- 8:22Shiloh because he's like, please love me, please play with me
- 8:26like. And so he's like handing him his
- 8:28own. He'll take a toy from Shiloh.
- 8:29Shiloh will be upset. And I'm like, give it 10
- 8:31seconds. You know, he's going to give up.
- 8:33And then like clockwork, while he would be like, all right,
- 8:35here you go. Because I want you to just I see
- 8:38you're upset that I took this and I'm going to give it back to
- 8:40you. So it is a little bit like you
- 8:42enter their world, you know, But Raleigh is much more like chat,
- 8:49chatty, talkative, loud than I thought he was going to be.
- 8:51I've, I've heard some second kids are like this.
- 8:53And I've also heard some kind of like, you forget they're even in
- 8:56the room because they just kind of like mold and they are
- 9:00flexible. So they just adapt to whatever
- 9:02it is. I was like, no, we don't forget.
- 9:04We, we we know you're here. You're very vocal.
- 9:07Yeah, we're all aware. Are how were your different?
- 9:13How were your pregnancies? Were they and like birth and
- 9:17baby like was everything totally different?
- 9:20Are they like totally different babies or were some things were
- 9:25they? Physically, the pregnancies
- 9:27were, I can say identical. Physically, I don't even like I
- 9:32gained the exact same amount at the exact same time.
- 9:35I guess I had slightly with Shiloh the first time.
- 9:38I was kind of eating like a college kid the 1st 12 weeks and
- 9:40for some reason I lost my appetite more with Raleigh.
- 9:43But I physically the symptoms were the same, emotionally were
- 9:49completely different. The first time I was 1 you have,
- 9:52I mean a kid. 1 you have a kid. So the level of exhaustion is
- 9:56also exponential. I cared a lot less about like
- 10:00the rules. I mean, I wasn't, you know, I
- 10:03was still conscious. But with the, you know, with the
- 10:06first one, I was like, I can't eat that, can't touch that.
- 10:09What is this cheese? Is it pasteurized?
- 10:11It's like friends would be like everything in America is
- 10:13Pasteur. And I'd be like, I don't know,
- 10:14it doesn't say it, but probably I was like eating.
- 10:17And they were like, you know, you're eating Brie.
- 10:19You're not supposed to have Brie.
- 10:20And I'm like, I think it's fine. Just like that was totally.
- 10:23You know, people smoked when they were right.
- 10:26We have a different bar now. Exactly.
- 10:28So I think it was more of, you know, I was more, oh, it's going
- 10:32to be fine. I had a little more of I know
- 10:34where this goes, which of course is a blessing.
- 10:37And like, I guess I took that feeling for granted because it
- 10:41doesn't work out. People have really difficult
- 10:44laborers, births, all the things.
- 10:45So I took that for granted a bit.
- 10:47And then I also had, I was, I was had some expectations of
- 10:52like, I'd have a girl next. That's just like what I
- 10:55envisioned. So I had to grapple with, oh, I
- 10:57didn't like for some reason foresee that it would be a boy,
- 11:01even though it's 5050. I was like, wait, one of each,
- 11:07yeah, isn't that what people do? So isn't that what 5050?
- 11:10That's what it means, right? So that assumption, I just had
- 11:14to be like, OK, where did that come from?
- 11:17What? How do I work through this?
- 11:18And then they're in you and they're not out in the world.
- 11:22They're just a concept. You have no connection in a
- 11:25sense. So I think I just knew like that
- 11:28whole first year is going to be hard.
- 11:29It's going to take a bit to get that connection.
- 11:32The love is there, but the connection takes a bit, for me
- 11:34at least. Yeah.
- 11:36Well, yeah. I mean well.
- 11:38And thank you for saying that because I feel like so many,
- 11:41most of what we see is women saying I instantly my life
- 11:48changed. I mean, obviously yes, your life
- 11:49does change, but like. After the bat nurse.
- 11:52Instantly I was in love and instantly like I, you know, I, I
- 11:58saw recently somebody talking about the, the idea, the concept
- 12:05of maternal instinct and that it's completely made-up and
- 12:10there's no scientific really backing that maternal instinct
- 12:15is. A thing.
- 12:15And it was. It was.
- 12:17Created apparently I I should Fact Check myself but but this
- 12:23the woman I got saw it from is a very.
- 12:25She seemed lived it. Prominent one, but I'll share it
- 12:29somewhere. But she was saying it was
- 12:31created by men, that by a man, the idea of maternal instinct.
- 12:38And I was like, that's insane because we feel so bad if we
- 12:45don't necessarily like the guilt of like, no one should be like,
- 12:50no one should feel bad if they don't want kids for sure.
- 12:53Because you should definitely want them if you're right.
- 12:56Right. But then it's like, But then if
- 12:58you don't have that instant connection, it's like.
- 13:01You shouldn't feel bad about that either.
- 13:04There's so many different ways to connect with your child, and
- 13:11it might be and. It might be a slow build, and it
- 13:14probably will be. I think that instinct of I'm
- 13:17keeping this thing alive was definitely there.
- 13:20But I had rage. I was like, I hate this.
- 13:23I was like gritting my teeth through things.
- 13:26I was losing it. I had zero patients.
- 13:28I was exhausted. I mean, but that lovely.
- 13:32Yeah. It's really crazy.
- 13:33They do this thing where they wake up every hour.
- 13:35They want to eat and I I so rude.
- 13:39They really are just, they're so needy.
- 13:41And there's something about that, like helplessness, that
- 13:44yeah, it's not so rewarding as as a mom, they're not.
- 13:50Saying thank you, yes. There's no, there's not a lot of
- 13:52value. They're kind of like a doll that
- 13:54you know, you're keeping alive. And I knew this is going
- 13:57somewhere because I have this other kid that now I know this
- 13:59is going somewhere. We'll we'll have this
- 14:01relationship. So I think I was able to take
- 14:03that pressure off, but I felt it a lot while I was pregnant.
- 14:07Any feelings of like the gender thing, I felt a lot of shame,
- 14:12like, well, then what is this, you know, that's such a taboo
- 14:15thing or that it seems like I'm not grateful that I have this
- 14:17healthy pregnancy. And I was, I was, there was a
- 14:19lot of self judgement. But then anytime I talked about
- 14:22it or talked about any of these more complicated feelings about
- 14:26being a mom or a kid in general, I felt just people coming out of
- 14:30the woodwork and being like, Oh, my God, me too.
- 14:33Yeah. It's hard to say, but thanks for
- 14:34saying that. Or, you know, this is really not
- 14:37so fun. Yeah, because there's so much of
- 14:40that dumb mom guilt that like, yeah, I'm sure also a man
- 14:45created probably how I don't. Know we can't prove it, but we
- 14:49have a strong feeling. There's no dad guilt, that's not
- 14:53a thing. But yeah, all of those feelings
- 14:57that are so valid and just like not talked about as.
- 15:03Much. Right.
- 15:04Exactly. Exactly.
- 15:06Yeah, I think. But now they're a little bit out
- 15:09of the baby. Stage out of the he's out of the
- 15:11baby stage and the first year I did this mom and me class and I
- 15:14just kind of spoke my mind with Raleigh, with Shiloh, I think I
- 15:17was more like, what's everyone thinking?
- 15:19What's the room? Is everyone loving this or where
- 15:22are we at? With Raleigh?
- 15:22I was like, I I don't like this, like what are we doing?
- 15:26How do we get past this part or like, let's just vent Like I was
- 15:29very much that kind of mom and the people that connected
- 15:32directed to that. We're like, let's be friends
- 15:34because this is and it's a lot of second time moms too, who
- 15:37are, you know, it's a little more just not boring the second
- 15:41time. But like we've been through this
- 15:43part, you know, of, of how to keep him alive or that you're
- 15:46not, you don't have the same fears.
- 15:48So there's deeper things that come up, I think.
- 15:51I feel like it those mommy and me classes can be so hard
- 15:55because you're like, OK, somebody has to be the one to be
- 15:59the you in the group and like say what everybody's thinking so
- 16:03we can suss out which. People which people we want to
- 16:06do in this class Yeah, totally. And I actually the first sketch
- 16:10that I came back into like let me do sketches because I kind of
- 16:13was on and off and just with that whole purpose.
- 16:16What's my purpose? So I one of the first sketch I
- 16:19kind of got me re inspired with post Raleigh was about mom and
- 16:24me because I was like this is so everybody's like talking what do
- 16:28you do when it gets too hot? OK, we could buy a baby a fan
- 16:30and I was like, can we just vent about our husbands and like that
- 16:33and then it was like she kept coming.
- 16:35This character keeps coming back to like, well, it's just vent
- 16:37about our husband. And they're like, so we put
- 16:39socks on the baby and she's like the husbands, so can we please?
- 16:43Yeah. Can we just like go back to the
- 16:44therapy part? That's so funny.
- 16:47Well, Speaking of your content, OK, your bio is actor, comedian,
- 16:53mom, in that order. With a with a funny face.
- 16:56Emoji. I feel like I should love it
- 16:59though. But I mean, yes, also like, OK,
- 17:05not saying like, of course our children will always come first
- 17:10in in most situations. But yeah, I don't think becoming
- 17:17a mom takes precedence. Yeah, that was exactly over
- 17:25being an actor and a comedian. Like, there's still parts of who
- 17:30you are. It's not like, oh, I'm a mom.
- 17:32This period. That's my whole thing.
- 17:36And then actor and comedian can be like in there somewhere,
- 17:39right? It's like no there can be like 3
- 17:41full full. Parts that are necessary and are
- 17:45fundamental parts of our identity.
- 17:48Yeah. And I, I almost feel like I have
- 17:50to overcome. I think I almost put them in
- 17:52front like, haha, just kidding. But also I'm not kidding at all
- 17:54because there is that feeling of like, shoot, am I just a mom
- 17:59now? And what is this other part of
- 18:01my life? And.
- 18:02And that again with that guilt and you know, they do take
- 18:06precedence and priority, of course, and they forever change
- 18:09you. And once you're a mom, you're a
- 18:10mom. But I think just that those
- 18:13other I'm a better mom when I'm reminded of my other purpose and
- 18:18my, you know, my deep purpose in this world of why am I an
- 18:21entertainer? Why am I in this industry?
- 18:23What is what am I seeking? What am I trying to achieve?
- 18:26And you know, the days that I'm doing that, I find myself being
- 18:29a better mom. And it's totally, I have
- 18:32actually no judgement for people that are purely, I just want to
- 18:36be a mom right now or I just want to be a mom forever.
- 18:38I just, I want to be a mom and I'll figure it out later.
- 18:41I actually sometimes envy it because I'm like, that's kind of
- 18:45clear and simple. Not that motherhood is simple,
- 18:48but it's clear. Whereas I feel like I'm
- 18:50grappling a lot, like, OK, what's the choice?
- 18:52What do I prioritize? Am I now someone's always
- 18:54losing? Yeah, right.
- 18:57You know. Yeah, no, I do.
- 19:00Yeah. I feel that way about people
- 19:02that are like, I don't want kids.
- 19:03And I'm like, oh, I mean, great. That's great.
- 19:07That's clear. So much easier.
- 19:10I mean, you know, but yes, it's like when you know what you want
- 19:16to do. But then I.
- 19:18Yeah. It's it's I think when you like
- 19:22we wanted to be moms. So we're moms.
- 19:23I don't know how long you wanted to be one for.
- 19:25I it wasn't something I dreamt about my whole life.
- 19:28Amen. You too.
- 19:29Because the artistry. Because I think that just is.
- 19:32That's the thing we were maybe dreaming about.
- 19:34Yeah. But if you know, you don't.
- 19:36I do what I do see those couples sometimes.
- 19:39I get it compared to Alison Bree.
- 19:41I see that. And and she they're not having
- 19:43kids and they've been very vocal about it.
- 19:45Yeah. And I'm like, I get that.
- 19:46I I totally get that. You can completely pursue this.
- 19:50She's also successful. So I get it.
- 19:52You know, I'm like, I. That's fair.
- 19:54You're leaning into this. It's also interesting when some
- 19:57somebody, when I see that somebody has the means for
- 20:02whatever they could want. I'm like specifically why don't
- 20:05you want children or why don't like this could be so not easy
- 20:11for you, but like yes, but like. You can have help you have.
- 20:16And of course, yeah, don't have. Again, no judgement.
- 20:20If you don't want kids, don't have kids.
- 20:22Totally cool, but I but I'm just so nosy.
- 20:26Oh, I totally get the nosiness. And I do think part of me is
- 20:29like judging that like, why wouldn't you want them?
- 20:32But like the reward ultimately is obviously so great.
- 20:36So even I think they're hearing a lot of the like, oh, all the
- 20:38parents just like talk bad about it.
- 20:41Like everyone's always benching and bitching and like, but I'm
- 20:44like, no, but like we talk about it so that we feel better.
- 20:47But there's like this whole other amazing life, powerful
- 20:52relationship that you're missing out on.
- 20:54Well, I was saying to Alicia, who was just on the podcast,
- 21:00that it's easier to explain the, the like, the venting part.
- 21:08It's easier to explain being tired and being a mess and all
- 21:14of these things. It's there's no words.
- 21:17It's hard to explain the like deep where you're like, when my
- 21:22kid smiles, I want to die in the best way and it's like I don't.
- 21:28Know how to explain that and another mom knows it and to say
- 21:32it. I think we also, we also maybe
- 21:35go above and beyond to say the bad for people who don't have
- 21:38them because we're like, yeah, it's like this is I feel what
- 21:41moms do a lot. It's like, it's awful.
- 21:43Like, I don't want you to feel bad that you're missing this.
- 21:45Even if they don't like. I think that's our own
- 21:47projection in some way that we are like, let's just keep
- 21:49talking. And also for many years, I think
- 21:52everyone was just kind of being, you know, repressed about, like
- 21:55you said, those mommy and me type of thing.
- 21:56Like everyone's like, it is so or like the maternal instinct,
- 21:59it is so great. You just look at them and you
- 22:02bond. And I think women now are like
- 22:04word vomiting, like, wait, it's really hard.
- 22:07And it's, I hate this. And this is really tough because
- 22:09we weren't allowed to maybe say it for so many generations.
- 22:12We're kind of like taking it on generationally even, you know?
- 22:16Finally getting out of. The test, getting it off our
- 22:20chest and. I'm gonna OK now.
- 22:24Is your husband also in the industry?
- 22:27He's a filmmaker, he's a director primarily.
- 22:30He's also a writer, but he's pursuing a lot of different
- 22:34things right now. Like he's an entrepreneur,
- 22:36business guy. Yes, he's an emotional AI like
- 22:41tech startup. He's doing a lot of very cool
- 22:44things. That's.
- 22:45Fun. He's a man of many talents.
- 22:48OK, so you said that you didn't always like dream of having kids
- 22:54necessarily. What made you guys decide to if
- 22:59you tried or how long you were trying if you.
- 23:02I think we knew like when we met, like, OK, we both want a
- 23:05family. This is, you know, we're on the
- 23:06same page about this. And then 2020 was supposed to be
- 23:10our like, we're going to travel the world and we're going to
- 23:12really focus on our careers, which is funny, how.
- 23:15Did that work out for? You Yeah, it it didn't.
- 23:19So like in July it got something.
- 23:22We were like, OK, so we were going to make like create things
- 23:25this year. We were going to travel.
- 23:26We're like, OK, so let's maybe we'll create a different
- 23:28project. Literally July we're like, I
- 23:31don't think this is ending anytime soon.
- 23:34Maybe this is the time like let's flip our priorities, which
- 23:37is kind of funny to think about now because we weren't loaded in
- 23:41time, but I think we just had this idea like first year of
- 23:43marriage, like we'll just see the world and we'll just really
- 23:47got like focus on our career. But we're like, let's flip it,
- 23:50Which of course doesn't work because like once you have the
- 23:52kids, you have the kids, you can't like, well, next year I'll
- 23:55focus on the care. It's like, no, now he's 1.
- 23:57You can't. He's not going away.
- 23:59He's here for a while, hopefully forever.
- 24:02So yeah. So in hindsight, it makes sense
- 24:07that we, when we wanted multiple children that like that was
- 24:10obviously the time to start, you know?
- 24:13Did you OK, so wanting multiple because I I'm one and maybe
- 24:19done. I don't know.
- 24:21I feel like I'm sorry, listeners.
- 24:23I know that I just like keep talking about it, but I'm sorry
- 24:28I'm. Well, like you said, when you
- 24:29see those people and you're like, I get that, I get that.
- 24:33I actually do get that. But I don't, I don't know.
- 24:36So did you. I feel like most people that
- 24:41I've talked to that have multiple just knew that they
- 24:47wanted more than one. Did you know that you wanted?
- 24:50I knew because siblings really shaped my identity, my
- 24:55childhood, you know, sometimes for worse, sometimes for better.
- 24:59But that companionship, that growing up with someone, I think
- 25:03was so pivotal, pivotal to my childhood.
- 25:05We also moved a lot growing up. I was so I was really attached
- 25:09to my siblings and that concept and like where I fell in the
- 25:12family was, you know, a big part of my narrative again, for
- 25:15better and worse. Sometimes I've like a lot that
- 25:17I've worked through in process since, but I saw I really felt
- 25:22that and I really felt that sibling thing was very important
- 25:25to me. I didn't have a like I need two
- 25:28sisters or I need this or I need a boy and then two girl.
- 25:31I didn't have that. As I said, I had the assumption
- 25:33that I would at least have one girl and probably one boy.
- 25:36Like I think that did happen for me, but the sibling was kind of
- 25:42a no brainer. So I think it was more like when
- 25:44are we when are we deciding to become parents?
- 25:47Once we decide now we're in it. But again with Raleigh, we were
- 25:51also going to start earlier. And then I booked a show and I
- 25:56got 3 episodes and I was like, wait, let maybe it's good.
- 25:59I can, I finally feel like I'm out of baby land.
- 26:01I can refocus on career and I'm finally like, I just, I feel
- 26:05like myself again. And then the strike was coming
- 26:09and we were like, oh, you got some.
- 26:12Signs. I got some signs like this is
- 26:15the time and I I'm like, I think it was March that we started
- 26:19getting signals like, OK, strike is coming.
- 26:21And I think we were. I was like, I think we should
- 26:23start the process because I have such FOMO about the industry.
- 26:27Like I don't want to miss anything.
- 26:29Yeah, even to start something so important for my wife.
- 26:32Yeah. Did you work though while you
- 26:34were pregnant? I worked so Shiloh was pandemic.
- 26:38I did work when I was like, there was some things and I
- 26:41worked. I filmed call your mother when I
- 26:44was three months pregnant, which is funny because at the time
- 26:47they, they cast you and then like that you did a COVID test
- 26:50like 3 weeks later and then you shot, you shot like, oh,
- 26:52another. So 4 weeks have passed, I think
- 26:54from booking to to being on set and costume was like, OK, she
- 26:57totally lied about her sizes. And I didn't want to share
- 27:01because again, I had this fear of like, Oh, I, I know they're
- 27:04not legally allowed to fire you, but I was like, I don't know.
- 27:06This is like, I don't want to risk anything.
- 27:08I'm finally on set. It's the pandemic.
- 27:10I just don't know. Would they be scared to have a
- 27:12pregnant person on set? So I, I was just like, oh, I
- 27:16guess like not as small as like, but I could see their faces, all
- 27:20the clothes they had me try on the first round.
- 27:22They were like, yeah, so this one doesn't button like you
- 27:24totally are showing at like 1314 weeks.
- 27:27But I but I had told them at like 10 weeks when I wasn't
- 27:30really yet so that, you know, I worked then and I did a sketch
- 27:34for what are they called Smile, some YouTube channel that that's
- 27:39doing really well. They had me come be a pregnant
- 27:41person in their sketch and that. Oh, nice.
- 27:43That was really fun. And like a full pregnant.
- 27:46They wanted a full pregnant sketch.
- 27:47Yeah, that was kind of it for my pregnancy work.
- 27:50And did you? Tell your reps that I was
- 27:54pregnant. Yeah.
- 27:54And how did that go? I did.
- 27:56I shared pretty quickly. My manager and I are closed.
- 27:59We're friends. So I shared pretty quickly with
- 28:01her both times. And then my agents, I think I
- 28:06shared relatively quickly with them as well.
- 28:09I took pregnancy pictures commercially because I was like,
- 28:12Get Me Out there, but that didn't manifest.
- 28:16And then with Raleigh, the strike, I mean, there really was
- 28:18nothing. There was like pandemic was
- 28:20there was more work than the strike, so.
- 28:23So when you were like just starting to kind of like get
- 28:30yourself yourself back ish after Shiloh, how was it?
- 28:40Because I do feel like it's it's hard to like to go back and have
- 28:45another one. So how was that transition for
- 28:49you? I guess like you said with the
- 28:52the the strike helps. On the career wise, like the
- 28:57career front. But yeah, so personally, then
- 29:00how did that going back to like, OK, I'm gonna be doing all this
- 29:05again, Especially like, you know, it's gonna be like the
- 29:10babyface for a little while, which isn't your fave.
- 29:14Yeah. Exactly.
- 29:16It was really hard actually. Yeah, I still don't.
- 29:20And I obviously no one regrets a kid.
- 29:22I still while we were pregnant and I was grappling with those
- 29:25things. I was still like, I wasn't
- 29:27questioning should we not have done this?
- 29:30I was grappling with other things about the pregnancy, but
- 29:34I but I was like, we wanted siblings and I like I come from
- 29:38three. Like in my head I was always
- 29:40going to have three, which by the way, the door is not shut
- 29:43completely here. So which is probably sounds
- 29:46psychotic because I'm very like I'm a masochist.
- 29:48I'm like, well, either like 1 or like a million, like either it's
- 29:51like all terrible and hard or like, let's just choose the
- 29:53easier round. A little bit of an extremist,
- 29:57but I didn't regret like I think I that was part of the grappling
- 30:01the while I was pregnant, not just, oh, it's a boy.
- 30:04What this is not what I thought. Also like, oh God, I'm going
- 30:07back to that. And I remember my postpartum
- 30:11period was really hard and I remember this amount of time.
- 30:14So I think that was a huge, huge part of it is the knowing.
- 30:18So like I said, some things are harder because you know it's
- 30:21going to be hard and some things are easier because I also was
- 30:23like, but I know when that phase is over, I am going to love it.
- 30:28Not to say it's like Peaches and roses or whatever the expression
- 30:31is with Shiloh. Like it's not like everything's
- 30:33so easy, but we're so connected. I'm like, I, I mean, I'm, I so I
- 30:40love the relationship. I love the dynamic, IE it's,
- 30:44it's just, there's nothing like it, which you know, because
- 30:46you're a mom. So I knew that I was going to
- 30:48also get there. I was more like, let's get
- 30:50there. So it was the hard, it was
- 30:52harder, and it was easier because I knew I'd come out of
- 30:54it too. Yeah, that's true.
- 30:56OK, Well, then I have to ask, since you have to, and you're
- 31:00living in LA. Are you in an apartment?
- 31:03We are. We're in a condo, OK.
- 31:06How many rooms? There's 3 rooms I'm.
- 31:08So knows. 3 bedrooms please. You don't have to answer.
- 31:11I will answer anything, I really think I will.
- 31:13OK, so 3 bedrooms OK, so that's where I'm at where I'm like I.
- 31:16Need another bedroom do you have?
- 31:17Two, I have two which I'm grateful for 2/2 bed, 2 bath.
- 31:24But yeah, the idea of having another one in this space makes.
- 31:30I totally, yeah, get that the first year.
- 31:34Are they sharing? They're sharing now.
- 31:36So the first few months, so we put one room was my acting room,
- 31:401 room was my husbands like office and then we had our
- 31:44bedroom. Then of course the kid was
- 31:45coming Shiloh. We were like, oh, one of these
- 31:47rooms has to go. Obviously it's going to be the
- 31:49acting room. I still clung on till like the I
- 31:53think it was like the 8th month. I was like, OK, the self tape
- 31:56wall has to get covered by the crib.
- 31:58Like I was really grappling. Like do I need to put animal
- 32:01stickers up? My friends were like, you need
- 32:02to put the animal stickers out. This baby is actually coming.
- 32:06And I was like, yeah, but like my acting books can stay and
- 32:08they're like the acting books have to go.
- 32:10You need the baby books. Like, I held on for dear life
- 32:13and of course now I'm like, well, dad, it's a kids room.
- 32:15Yeah. Brandon held on to his office
- 32:18because he was working from home and really needed an office.
- 32:21So the baby was in our room. Yeah, exactly.
- 32:24Priorities. The baby was in our room the
- 32:25first four, no more even like seven months, I feel like.
- 32:28But I was like, we need a sleep train.
- 32:30So we then we moved him to the office to sleep train Raleigh.
- 32:34And then I think we tried a couple times putting him in the
- 32:36same room and it was just too early.
- 32:38So kept him in the office literally in a pack and play.
- 32:41Yeah. So he didn't have work, has this
- 32:44like amazing room and Raley's like in a pack and play in the
- 32:46office. But we're like, it's the second
- 32:47kid, I'm a third. Who even knows what happened?
- 32:50Like it's all good. He's gonna be adaptable.
- 32:53Exactly. And then when he really knew how
- 32:55to sleep and it was time, we moved them to the same room and
- 32:58it was like one week of overload excitement.
- 33:01Like they were both just chatting and talking through the
- 33:04night. I mean, obviously Raleigh wasn't
- 33:05really talking yet, but. That's so cute.
- 33:07It was so cute were. You just like.
- 33:09Watching, we were watching on the monitor like this is so
- 33:11annoying, but it's so adorable. We're like, it's like it's 3 P
- 33:15like AM you need to go to sleep. But this is so cute.
- 33:18It wouldn't be that bad. It would be like 10:00 PM, but
- 33:20we're like, OK, same thing. Shilo's getting laughed and he's
- 33:23so excited. Yeah, exactly.
- 33:25Exactly. Yeah, that's interesting because
- 33:28even I think I would have, I'm like, oh, I would have a girl
- 33:33too. I'm, I'm with you where I was
- 33:34like, if I had another one, it would be a girl.
- 33:36Which is fascinating because you already have the girl.
- 33:38Yeah, but I only have sisters. So I see we just like, imagine
- 33:43what we, what we grew up with. Yeah, Yeah.
- 33:46But I'm like, well then they would definitely share a room.
- 33:50I shared a room with my sister, but I would still need that
- 33:53third room. Yes, for and.
- 33:55You're a working person and you need a space, and it makes
- 33:59complete sense. But you were in the three
- 34:01bedroom. Before.
- 34:02We had any. Before we had any, we got our
- 34:05puppy during the pandemic and then moved to our.
- 34:09Bigger place, so you have a puppy too?
- 34:11Well she's now 5 cuz well so many years ago but she's like
- 34:15she's still my baby. Half of me, part of me is like
- 34:18people with dogs. I'm like, that seems harder than
- 34:22I could. I'm like, I have to walk you
- 34:26like as if I don't walk with my child, but you know what I mean?
- 34:31I'm like, no, you, I. Have to I?
- 34:33Have to bring you outside. I have to.
- 34:37I'm always gonna pick up your poop. 100% you also will pick up
- 34:42your child's Yeah, you'll change her diaper.
- 34:44She's on the potty, but. That's true.
- 34:46That's true. It's a different thing, Yeah.
- 34:49It's a different level of commitment.
- 34:51Yeah. It's a it's.
- 34:53I don't think I could love a dog like that.
- 34:56Oh, I shouldn't say that out loud.
- 34:58You can say it out loud. Well, yes, that may be edit out,
- 35:01but we did get the dog first, which I think made a difference
- 35:05because she was like, that's when we were like, oh, we really
- 35:08could be parents because the love we have for this dog is so
- 35:11palpable. We could do this with kids.
- 35:13Did you do the whole like what was the transition with the dog,
- 35:18with the baby? She I mean, I'm like picturing
- 35:21myself. I literally was like in labor on
- 35:23the floor, like in like cat pose or whatever.
- 35:27And she's like bringing me the ball to toss and we're like read
- 35:30the room like someone else is going to be joining.
- 35:33This is not. I'm like screaming and crying
- 35:35and she's like, mom, the ball, the ball.
- 35:37Can you, can you like toss that for me?
- 35:39Did you have a home? No, I did not.
- 35:41Oh, you were just, but I wasn't. Yes, I did not the first time
- 35:45because I was like, when do we? When do we go?
- 35:46I was just a little bit more did not realize like I was like
- 35:49we're going, we're going before this even starts.
- 35:51But I she so we didn't I think we brought a piece of thing like
- 35:57from the hospital. I think we had my mother-in-law
- 35:59bring one home for her to smell. It didn't really matter with
- 36:03Raleigh, we did none of that. She like licks their faces.
- 36:06They have like a love hate Shiloh.
- 36:08She it like scares her. I mean it's like those movies
- 36:10where like the toddler looks giant and the little dogs like
- 36:13because my dog's 5 lbs. So she's like actually
- 36:16terrifying, but she advocates for herself.
- 36:18She's very, she's also very loud.
- 36:20It's very loud. There's your.
- 36:21Girl, there you go. You had the girl first.
- 36:24I did have the Curry curse. That's what my mom said.
- 36:27That's so funny. Yeah.
- 36:29OK, so you were in a play though in 23 and like?
- 36:36What was I here that? Happy birthday.
- 36:39Michael yes, so funny. Was that like because they were
- 36:44both here by then, right? Wait, I can't do.
- 36:48Math. No, just Shiloh.
- 36:50Wait. 20 yes, because it was the beginning of 23 and Raleigh was
- 36:54born at the end of 23, so I did have Shiloh.
- 36:58How was that? Was it like a?
- 37:01It was a it wasn't that one was not because they called me to
- 37:06for a recast. So actually I missed the first
- 37:09like third of rehearsals and they're like, we actually loved
- 37:12your audition funny story, but you were a little bit the wrong
- 37:15age for both, like too old for one, too young for the other.
- 37:18So but we think we can still make it work.
- 37:20So it double cast me and another girl to be to replace that
- 37:25actress. So we also shared the rehearsals
- 37:29together. So she would rehearse and then I
- 37:31would rehearse. She was doing the first half of
- 37:32the run and I did the second-half of the run.
- 37:34A very unusual situation. And the way it happened, I was
- 37:38just like halfway into the to the run already for the
- 37:42rehearsal run. So it wasn't tons of hours away
- 37:45from the house. And Shyla was already a bit, I
- 37:48mean, it wasn't old when he was older.
- 37:50It wasn't a baby spot between. There was a sweet spot.
- 37:53I do think since then I had I had did a fringe play after
- 37:57that, but I haven't done a show since I have auditioned and I
- 38:01got a call back for one that was in Long Beach and it it required
- 38:05a conversation with my husband. Like we sat and we were like,
- 38:08OK. Yeah, Long Beach is not.
- 38:09Close. It's not close.
- 38:10And like how would we realistically do this?
- 38:13And you know, so I think I have become more, I don't even want
- 38:18to say picky because like who's like, I don't think anything.
- 38:20But also, yeah, yeah, more exactly.
- 38:22Conscious of it's not as easy. What's worth the time, the
- 38:26money. Yeah.
- 38:27You know, ATV is like a no brainer no matter what.
- 38:30I think in a commercial very often too.
- 38:32But something like a play, it's like that's hours and hours of
- 38:35work and tech and isn't. Even going to cover the gas
- 38:38it's. Most likely you're going to lose
- 38:40money, so it has to be really worthwhile overall.
- 38:42Do you so your husband it seems like mostly works from from
- 38:46home? Yeah, and works from home.
- 38:48So do you guys, do you guys have help or do you just kind of like
- 38:52tag team? Well, I guess you're kind of man
- 38:54on man at this point, but do you just tactic?
- 38:57Where are your kids now? Where are they?
- 39:02They are well, funny enough actually.
- 39:03So Raleigh's at daycare still. He's starting preschool next
- 39:07year. So daycare has been obviously
- 39:09beyond helpful. And it goes till 5.
- 39:12So again, the mom guilt. But I was like, well, if I was
- 39:14on set, I wouldn't even feel guilty for a second because I'd
- 39:17be like, well, I have to go to work.
- 39:18So why can't I bring that same attitude of like trying to get
- 39:21on set? That's the same pursuit.
- 39:24Shiloh actually had his last day of school yesterday, but he's on
- 39:27a play date without mommy right now.
- 39:30So this is a really big day. Wow.
- 39:31I know a friend from school, They took him.
- 39:33I was like, I can't go, I can't do a play date.
- 39:35And she's like, I'll take him. So I'm hoping it's going well
- 39:39and I wouldn't know otherwise. Is this his first play date
- 39:42without? You without me?
- 39:44Oh. My God.
- 39:45And you're you're. Doing great.
- 39:47Thank you. And you're not?
- 39:48Staring at your phone? No.
- 39:49My phone's across the room. Wow, he's great And and
- 39:52obviously Brandon is on call. I know her.
- 39:56Yes, I know, I know. I just watched the show.
- 39:59Was that you just met her? What was that show Lost Girl
- 40:01like just now? Just just watched it, but of
- 40:04course I already forgot the name.
- 40:06But it's based on the play date, a book.
- 40:08It's on Hulu and they literally like a stolen girl.
- 40:11The child is stolen. Oh shit, that was.
- 40:14Nuts I showed I'm just like checked that out before I yeah
- 40:18why am I watching that but no the massacre.
- 40:21Exactly, exactly. See, we have a good arrangement.
- 40:25I mean, I'm, I, you know, I think moms often become the
- 40:27primary parent, especially since I'm not the primary, you know,
- 40:31bringing in the money, going to work every day.
- 40:34Like he has a full time job. So that's a very, that's obvious
- 40:37right then. But we did have conversations
- 40:39initially, like if you're on set full time and I'm doing this
- 40:42whole time, we will need to get actual help for pickup and
- 40:45stuff, but we'll have that a lot.
- 40:47Like, can you, can I go shoot this?
- 40:49Sometimes it's Gray area, like can I go shoot the sketch?
- 40:51And he's great. He'll go pick up the slack,
- 40:53he'll pick up a child, he'll do baths.
- 40:55Like he's great. He's very involved and he loves
- 40:57time with the kids. And because he's home, if he
- 41:00hears us all laughing and having a great time, like he can't help
- 41:03himself, he'll also come down as dads do, you know, and they're
- 41:06like, we want daddy to stay. And I'm like, shouldn't have
- 41:09shown your face. Yeah.
- 41:12But I think if things shifted and I was, I think there's some
- 41:14things that are just clear. Like a day on said.
- 41:16It's like, well, this is what I have to do.
- 41:18And either you have to help me make this work or we have to
- 41:21hire someone because we don't have family right here in town.
- 41:24So, but yeah, it's those middle things of like, you know, the
- 41:28shooting things for yourself or that kind of thing that I feel
- 41:31are they're tougher sometimes, like what is really just for you
- 41:35and what is part of your business and you know.
- 41:38Do you? So your husband works full time?
- 41:43Do you? Do you work enough, do book
- 41:50enough where you or do you have a?
- 41:52You're like, how do you make money?
- 41:54Or do you have a like a day job? Yeah, I was tutoring for bar and
- 41:59bat mitzvahs and officiating that.
- 42:01So which I still have a few students.
- 42:04I'm much more, again, I don't want to say picky, but I'm much
- 42:08more like I don't just take on anyone.
- 42:10I used to work for a company and I'm just on my own when someone
- 42:12asks or usually just referral. I'm not marketing it.
- 42:16It's people hear of me from another apartment and I love, I
- 42:19love a lot about it. I love the officiating.
- 42:21I love being a part of their big day.
- 42:23I love just the build up to it and I don't and I like working
- 42:26with kids. I feel like tweens are kind of
- 42:29my sweet spot. Like to be girls especially.
- 42:31I'm like, yeah, I get you. I kind of like, I think I am you
- 42:34because I still see myself as a teen each girl a lot of the time
- 42:37too. Oh my God, tangent though, the
- 42:41the the sketcher reel that you posted about the Teen Mom where
- 42:48I'm like, that is me literally where I'm like, it's Can you
- 42:52believe I have? 3 year olds, they're like, no,
- 42:56we can, we can, we can. In fact, I can't believe she's
- 42:58so young. Why isn't she older?
- 43:01That's so funny. Time is frozen.
- 43:04But to us, I mean, you do look young.
- 43:06We do look young, but I don't think it's as young as I think.
- 43:08In my head I'm like. You know.
- 43:10The teens and I are like the same I.
- 43:13Feel so young and I always, I ask people and I have to figure
- 43:17out a better way to phrase this, but I feel like if you
- 43:20understand, you'll understand where I'm like, don't you feel
- 43:23at some point you're going to be like the same, You think your
- 43:26kids going to be the same age as you?
- 43:29Oh yeah, because we stop and they keep going.
- 43:32Because I was like, I feel like we're.
- 43:33Because even right now, like, right, because every day you
- 43:36can't really clock their growth. Yeah.
- 43:38And then when you look at pictures, there's much bigger.
- 43:39But you're like. But I stayed the same.
- 43:40Yeah, we're like, well, you're gonna.
- 43:43I feel like I'm still a teenager.
- 43:46Maybe. Maybe I cap out around 20.
- 43:49Yeah, yeah. But I'm like, so eventually
- 43:53she'll be 22. And you'll just be that's.
- 43:55Fine, very confused. And you'll just share clothes?
- 43:59Yeah, I totally feel that. I feel that.
- 44:03And we are aging, but we are aging very slowly.
- 44:08Yeah, we look very yes. We're beautiful, I know.
- 44:12So that's my main funny side hustle, if you will.
- 44:17I mean, I have had other random things over the years.
- 44:20I've never went all in on a different.
- 44:23I've considered different businesses.
- 44:25Like I officiated my friend's wedding recently and it was so
- 44:27great. And then everyone's like, you
- 44:29should start an officiating company or you should.
- 44:31I think my resistance to starting another company is I
- 44:35already have a startup. Like acting feels like a
- 44:37startup. Yeah.
- 44:38It is. It's your own.
- 44:39Business, yes, it's your business.
- 44:40So like multiple businesses is like where does the time go?
- 44:43Where does the money go? Yeah.
- 44:46Well, it's hard enough to invest just in yourself as an actor
- 44:50where it's like, OK, I have to pay this much for headshots.
- 44:53Am I going to bug anything from it?
- 44:54Like, is that coming back? Exactly.
- 44:56It's all one giant investment. High risk.
- 45:00Putting money into like an actual business that you might
- 45:03not care as much about, right? Or probably don't care.
- 45:07As much about yeah, it feels a lot harder.
- 45:09Like I love writing speeches. I like for friends, I love
- 45:12performing those and I love officiating, but that kind of
- 45:16effort and energy into something else, I mean, I'm doing more of
- 45:18that. It's a voice over, but that's
- 45:20like the same umbrella as acting.
- 45:21You know, that's also a lot of work and.
- 45:25Yeah, well, Speaking of your, all your, your content, which is
- 45:29so funny. How do you, like, keep up that
- 45:34energy and keep like keep at it? I mean content and acting just
- 45:40in general? I think I don't.
- 45:43I've got. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:44So that's it. No, I've I, it's hard.
- 45:49I, it was hard for me to get into it and then it was hard for
- 45:52me to see value in it when things weren't doing well.
- 45:55Like if it's not getting a lot of views, it's like, why am I
- 45:58doing this again? So I feel like one thing that
- 45:59has helped because now some of like they are getting views, but
- 46:03they don't all get equal amounts and they don't all equally go
- 46:05viral. And I think I continue to tap
- 46:07back into why am I doing this? So that one didn't explode, but
- 46:11I got to create something that I think is really funny or
- 46:15meaningful or will mean something to someone or is my
- 46:18control like I'm acting? And I wrote that and here's what
- 46:22I can control in the industry. And there I am putting it out
- 46:25for the world to see. And so I think tapping into the
- 46:28purpose piece of it really, really helps because otherwise
- 46:32you're again refreshing the way I refresh emails, like did my
- 46:35manager send it yet? Did I get a call back?
- 46:38Is the way I was refreshing Instagram, like how many views
- 46:41now how many, how many shares? And then it's that same thing of
- 46:44like, oh, it went viral. Now I feel good about myself.
- 46:47Same as a booking like no, so I know that that is like that kind
- 46:51of external validation is, is an emotional rollercoaster and
- 46:55you'll crash and burn. So just reconnecting to like, I
- 46:59don't really, I'm disconnecting from how this does and I'm I'm
- 47:02going to just really try to remember why I'm putting this
- 47:05out there. Same as now an audition, like
- 47:07I'm going to do this, but I may not book it.
- 47:09I probably won't because we usually don't.
- 47:11I feel like your psychology background probably it helps
- 47:14happen with with that side of it.
- 47:17Probably, you know, like years of therapy.
- 47:19Yeah, it's all good. Exactly.
- 47:22Like, did my major in college help?
- 47:24I mean, you know, the psychologists in my family.
- 47:27And so I think, you know, Broadberry therapy, my family's
- 47:30very therapy or into my husband and Ivory therapy oriented.
- 47:32So I think it's great all that just I can be, I can clock,
- 47:36okay, Right now I'm refreshing this over and over again and I
- 47:40see that this is like I'm tapping into the wrong thing.
- 47:43You know the results and you can't be result oriented, or I
- 47:47mean, you'll just have a really sad pursuit.
- 47:51With all art. All art, all art.
- 47:54And it's already hard enough and so just seeking that you know,
- 47:57validation or results and like if you didn't book it, it didn't
- 48:00matter is just not helpful. Yeah.
- 48:04Is there anything you would tell a an actor who's thinking of
- 48:10starting a family, but they're like it's I don't know if it's
- 48:14the right time or I'm scared. My career.
- 48:17Yeah. Won't do anything.
- 48:19Is there any? Funny you say that because I've
- 48:20had a few. I had, I was one of few actor
- 48:24moms in my specific place in life of like I knew actor moms
- 48:29that were like already series regulars and stuff like that.
- 48:31And I knew actor moms that were not at all in the business, but
- 48:34I didn't have a lot of friends like me that were my age, my
- 48:39married and I have younger actor friends, but that are really
- 48:42like in the same place. And I, I did get one recently
- 48:44and I had these conversations with her.
- 48:46I went to a commercial call back.
- 48:47I think I was like 3 weeks postpartum with Raleigh and
- 48:50she's like, I can't believe you're here.
- 48:51And I was like, I'm still wearing a diaper, but I'm here,
- 48:54I'm back, Which of course would maybe not, maybe would have
- 48:57happened with Shiloh, but I was just like, let's, let's get it
- 49:00on, get on with this and let's like continue throw ourselves
- 49:03back in the ring. But I think I would say like,
- 49:05there is no right time. There just isn't.
- 49:07There's no right time. You're not going to have this
- 49:09aha moment. It's not binary and it's not
- 49:11going to be like, and now I'm a mom and now I'm an artist.
- 49:14It's like they're interlaced and they're not.
- 49:17Listen, I would never have thought that like the boy mom
- 49:20content would explode the way it did.
- 49:21And I'm yeah, my husband and I joke about that.
- 49:24Like the thing you were kind of grappling with is like your
- 49:27biggest content and so relatable.
- 49:29And people are coming in from the woodwork saying they relate.
- 49:32So isn't that like it's always it's how it works.
- 49:35So I think I've seen people say like, I can't believe I was
- 49:38putting this off because I was scared of losing a job.
- 49:41And you know, like the saying, like when I, when I left town a
- 49:46few years ago, I booked my biggest job and my biggest fear
- 49:48was leaving town that I wouldn't book a job.
- 49:50And then I literally left without a job, taped abroad and
- 49:54came home with the job. So it's like that same thing
- 49:56with kids of you're going to get such a bigger thing.
- 49:59This is your family. This is probably, this is the
- 50:01most important pursuit really, if you want this fam, if you
- 50:04want to have that, that relationship and there's so much
- 50:08joy and you will be a deeper artist for it and you will be a
- 50:10better actor and emotional wounds will open that you didn't
- 50:13even know you had. It's so fun.
- 50:15It's. So great, but you will be able
- 50:18to access things and you're going to be able to do drama and
- 50:22you'll just be a more well, like I don't even say well-rounded
- 50:25person because non moms are well-rounded, but more you'll
- 50:28have more things in your life going on.
- 50:30And I think that also, I think he can take the pressure off and
- 50:34put it on the career. So I think I would just give a
- 50:35very complicated answer, but I would say it will only add to
- 50:39your life. It will only add to your
- 50:40pursuit. It will only add to your
- 50:42artistry at the at the end of the day.
- 50:44So just go for it because there's no you.
- 50:46You won't regret it. Yeah, I really do believe that.
- 50:49Yeah. Well, I I would piggyback on
- 50:53that. Yeah, I would Ditto that as
- 50:55well. OK, my final question for you,
- 50:59what I know, right. I'm like.
- 51:01I could talk to you for hours. Keep talking forever.
- 51:04What is your lifesaver at the moment?
- 51:07What's just getting you through the day?
- 51:10Just like having your kids at school.
- 51:11A coffee, A water. Like and like.
- 51:14A product. Come on, You're saying them all.
- 51:16You're saying them all. I'll.
- 51:19Stop and keep going, yeah. You, I think you nailed it.
- 51:23I mean, I do think what's gotten me out of a bit of a funk post
- 51:29to kids of like, what am I doing in the industry is complicated
- 51:33right now, right? And I know a lot of artists are
- 51:35struggling. I think really this is the time
- 51:40like I'm really trying to tap into the creation of like, not
- 51:45the things I used to do, like the marketing and the
- 51:47networking. I mean, I used to do all that
- 51:49and I was really good at and I, I've been burnt out with a lot
- 51:53of that. Like a lot of things that I'm
- 51:54like, how did I produce that whole play by myself?
- 51:56Like how did I, you know, reach out to 10 industry people a week
- 52:00and take them? Like I don't have that energy in
- 52:02the bandwidth. And I'm there's a little bit of
- 52:04that jadedness, which I'm sure you a little bit is funny
- 52:07because a lot probably, but I think they're like the core of
- 52:11creating. And I went back to class at the
- 52:14last year, I went back to an acting class and I went back
- 52:16into voiceover. Like, I mean, I was in a master
- 52:18or I'm still in a master class with that.
- 52:20And I think just back to the basics and the sketch creating
- 52:23of, you know, collaborating. It's not even by myself,
- 52:27although that's that feels really good to be like I'm using
- 52:29my life things to have get people to relate to things and
- 52:33empathize with people and like, have people feel seen.
- 52:36But then the collaborating with friends or like, you know,
- 52:38Sayla, the partner that I collaborated with.
- 52:41And just like this means something.
- 52:43This is the magic of creating and reaching people.
- 52:47And that's it's the reminder of like why we're even here and
- 52:51what we're doing with all this, you know?
- 52:54Yeah. So it is the coffee also.
- 52:56It is the school. And it's also, you know, those
- 52:58moments with the kid. I mean, it is, yeah.
- 53:02Once again, I feel like I we talked a lot of like the
- 53:04difficult stuff, but there is that like I had a really
- 53:07beautiful and I'll cap it on this, but since it is mommy
- 53:10would mommy comes first is I did hug my son and said like, happy
- 53:16birthday, you're an amazing 4 year old and he was like, you're
- 53:19an amazing grown up mommy. And I went to sleep that night
- 53:22like, OK, like I still want all these other things.
- 53:26I would, I want an NBC sitcom, but nothing will be this that
- 53:31moment of just like feeling that and seeing that and having that
- 53:35connection and knowing I'll have it with, you know, with the
- 53:38whole family, with both of them. Yeah, that's so cute.
- 53:43I die. I'm.
- 53:44Sure, you've had those. You get it.
- 53:46Yeah, yeah, I got a. You're a good.
- 53:49Mommy isn't that nice and you're like, I don't need the external
- 53:53validation, but I really are doing something right.
- 53:56Doing something right. You're doing a good job.
- 53:58Thank you. So are you.
- 53:59Thank you. This is amazing.
- 54:01Thank you for being a mom. Thanks for having.
- 54:04I thought you said thank you for being a mom.
- 54:05I was like anytime but not anytime.
- 54:08Thanks for having me. And that is a look into Mommy
- 54:14would thank you so much to my guest and a special thank you to
- 54:19my producer Cecilia Trip with Laura Canyon Creative.
