- 0:44Doctor Who commentary podcast gonna ask me?
- 0:47How I came up with that ridiculous file.
- 0:49How did you come up with that? Ridiculous title, it's a great
- 0:52question. Thank you very much.
- 0:55Do you know what the quote is, right?
- 0:57I do. Yes.
- 0:59Tom Baker, I got Soviet another boy but I can't remember what
- 1:02story is. Type is selling guess.
- 1:05I all that some fantastic people say that ridiculous title for a
- 1:08podcast. My Gary Russell sire.
- 1:10One time. I've been told if you don't say
- 1:12it honestly and without a hint of irony as well, you know.
- 1:16Can I ask you a question about the theme tune?
- 1:19Where is that? You know, that's not me please.
- 1:23That guy can sing. Have you heard me trying to sing
- 1:25on this thing? I've not know one episode.
- 1:28Right, I did have a cover of Going Underground to an episode
- 1:33of Of the invasion of the dinosaurs and I did my own
- 1:37lyrics All About Professor Whitaker and his time travel
- 1:40experiments. Well, it's going to seek out
- 1:42invasion of dollars dinosaurs episode 5 and I'll show absolute
- 1:46Zinger and then you'll never ask me again.
- 1:48If I did the tiles he couldn't have a problem.
- 1:50No it's it's a friend of mine. Who really just fell in love
- 1:55with the Pogo straight away and he was like, this is crazy.
- 1:58Like you just intro and there's no music.
- 2:01Can I can I do you like a thing? So, I was like, yeah, can I pay
- 2:06you for it? If I'd only money just just use
- 2:09it. And I'll, I said, all right, I
- 2:11thinking, what the hell are they going to come?
- 2:13I was going to be bloody Dreadful, you know?
- 2:15And because it's a gift, I've got to use the thing and then it
- 2:19did it. I was like, wow, that's really
- 2:21fabulous tick and people say to me now is like Aquas.
- 2:24Barbie it goes around in her head all day long.
- 2:29It's a very catchy theme tune and like sometimes that's all
- 2:32you need. Hmm.
- 2:34Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean like some podcasts
- 2:38it is just like a couple of seconds or a little Jingle the
- 2:41beginning and things like that, sometimes over at all, there's a
- 2:43fantastic one called lazy Doctor Who, which is Erica from Vera.
- 2:49See, and Stephen from Radio free skaro and they just say hello.
- 2:53Erica. Hello, Steven.
- 2:54And then they start. That's it.
- 2:55Yeah. How did yours come about them?
- 2:58Well, II actually change. I mean, I just trying to find
- 3:02different versions of theme tune but I change it.
- 3:03Series. So the first one is like I think
- 3:07it's kef McCulloch and Sylvester McCoy on the spoons, doing a
- 3:13version of the things in podcast and then I use an old 80's
- 3:16convention one and now we're currently using the dimensions
- 3:19and Time theme from the Cyber tech people and who knows what
- 3:22I'll use next. I actually already do, but can I
- 3:26just say right? Your podcast has got me through,
- 3:28many are in overnight shift over the last four weeks.
- 3:31That's very kind of uh, no worries.
- 3:33Thanks. For listening.
- 3:34I think my all-time favorite. I was the Shakedown Return of
- 3:37the sontarans commentary, obviously loved it because I'd
- 3:39already done a commentary on that else is there to say quite
- 3:42a lot. Apparently, the moment where you
- 3:45both say that Carolyn Ford isn't doing any acting at all as a
- 3:48crazy old drunken man. We lost my head on.
- 4:01Yes, of course. I really like me and Mark
- 4:08Donaldson from on the time lasted quite a peculiar episode
- 4:11where we looked at the musical careers of Doctor Who stuff
- 4:15which was how I mean it's quite a long episode.
- 4:19It's about an hour and a half an hour and 40 minutes, but we
- 4:22tried to get somebody from every era of Doctor Who and I hope we
- 4:27will see enough to walk, talk our way through it and then we
- 4:29did The Ultimate Adventure at the end because that's got
- 4:31musical numbers in it. Is this is business.
- 4:37I think we were both quite pissed by the end of it, if I
- 4:39remember correctly. And then, I also me when I was
- 4:43hosting it with my brother Jack, we did one where we covered the
- 4:46script for the unmade, the last of the time Lords film from the
- 4:51early 90s. And I just that was nice because
- 4:54it's just a bit of Doctor Who that nobody ever talks about it.
- 4:56So I think those are probably my favorites, but that we've done,
- 5:00but, you know, it's just it just really varies.
- 5:02Now, it kind of varies based The guests as well, but in terms of
- 5:05not in terms of quality, but in terms of what they wanted to
- 5:08cover and they want to pick like sometimes it can be quite a
- 5:11traditional safe thing. And sometimes people are like, I
- 5:13just did woman leak from alloy, which looks at we did some
- 5:18Torchwood. We did some Jago and light
- 5:20forward Twiggy covered some of his fan fiction and it was great
- 5:23fun. And that's just, it's kind of
- 5:25the luck of the stories. You never quite know what.
- 5:27You're gonna pull out of them. Not only to our fancy, they are
- 5:30soft link below. He came on.
- 5:33On this and did Love Of Monsters And the rings of akhaten and
- 5:37declared both of them, Absolute Classics and I love her.
- 5:40Well man, he's good. Isn't he last show me?
- 5:44His podcast has has stopped because it's a terrible shaking
- 5:49but he as he said he's happy to come on anybody's podcast any
- 5:52time. So I will always invite him back
- 5:54on too hot for TV. Are you listening everybody?
- 5:57Luke Malloy is ready to haul himself out on any podcast
- 5:59going. He's got a cheap side, snap it
- 6:03out. Yeah, it's on occupational,
- 6:06therapist. 05 should I do that? All right, I'm glad you didn't
- 6:10ask me what my favorite ones are.
- 6:11These were 500 of these out now. I don't expect me to remember, I
- 6:16mean, looking at your back catalog, I just feel lazy, but
- 6:19about 40 minutes, that's 500 do this.
- 6:22I've got about 15 of the big finish one out, I've got 52 of
- 6:27the starter at one out and I did the other one than our moon
- 6:30praise. And that's got another send the
- 6:32audience OHS. I mean, there's You say that
- 6:34what you thought that was quite longer an hour and a half?
- 6:36You do realize this thing's going to be about 3 hours long,
- 6:38your meter. Yeah.
- 6:39Very true. Very true.
- 6:40Yeah. But, you know, they get it in
- 6:41the little chunks. Don't know.
- 6:43Lets you and me, as well as should be fucking grateful,
- 6:45right? Exactly, exactly were doing the
- 6:47Lord's work. Go ahead and let's go into five,
- 6:52whose cancer, then you do it on. Okay, let's Press Play in 3, 2,
- 6:591. Off we go.
- 7:03Although I do I have as I do, obviously, I do really love the
- 7:07ones. I've done with my behalf but
- 7:08that's only. Because that's how we met, you
- 7:10know, something like I lost that, it's a lovely story and I
- 7:16so it was Luke Malloy that actually got me into got me onto
- 7:20your podcast and I sort of checked out a few episodes and
- 7:24then I've just been a main vein has been ever since, you know,
- 7:28less you honestly, we had a slightly psychotic glaze in your
- 7:33eye. All the slippers back, we've got
- 7:37a new slit and a dude, look at these got massive long tentacle
- 7:40and Matt avoid sighs. He's been adjusted since last
- 7:43week due to people, not thinking it was scary enough and
- 7:47obviously it's yeah, he's a lot scarier now.
- 7:50And he now obviously, the Dalek 63 289 group have, obviously
- 7:57done a whole hog for that video on why the sliver change and how
- 8:01it changes and it's well worth a watch.
- 8:03If you're the sort of person like me, that needs that much
- 8:06information in their lives. May I say the amount of effort
- 8:10that they go into to in those videos, you know, like and that
- 8:15Victorian Street in talents working triang is Sarah nations
- 8:18are. Yeah, yeah, yeah boy.
- 8:21I'm like you've got study this stuff in some depth to find like
- 8:25these outside like that. You know the grazing on a Dalek
- 8:28bump to show you how that dialogue has been from Dalek
- 8:31invasion of Earth all the way through to remembrance of the
- 8:33Daleks. Yeah, it's wild.
- 8:35It's like, it's a level of research and unheard above that,
- 8:39anything that I would ever do. But worthy of must price.
- 8:43Yes, indeed. And I can sit here and watch
- 8:45stops here and talk about it and try and be halfway.
- 8:48See, that's the Lazy Man's podcast.
- 8:53So we've just missed the sliver actually fall to his death, like
- 8:56it was a short-lived career, but I guess the actor got to fees,
- 9:00right? Because it's the thing and he's
- 9:02got his faith in the Daily Mail. Yeah, he's into episodes and
- 9:06there's a lovely sound where the Slender falls to his death and
- 9:08it's just like that's my Lex Luthor impression that, it's
- 9:13incredible and we're double act. You and me, but seriously a
- 9:17sliver coupled with the slitherers, The Archers will
- 9:24just be the slivers, Billy's, back this episode.
- 9:30Yes. Now, look weird enough.
- 9:32I didn't, I genuinely did not notice his absence in the last
- 9:35episode, and that's because there are a lot of characters in
- 9:37this. And there's a lot going on.
- 9:40The boy a boy, he lights up the screen when he comes back,
- 9:42doesn't he? He does.
- 9:44He doesn't, you know, I'm surprised that modern doctor who
- 9:47doesn't do more doctor Light episodes, especially when you've
- 9:50got. Sorry, that's a fantastic shot
- 9:51there to robo, man. Peering down a sewer.
- 9:54Just although the one on the right looks like he's ganked.
- 9:57What's going on down here? Yeah.
- 9:59What's the basement Club in Berlin or something like that?
- 10:04Ready for an exciting night out, but yeah, I'm surprised.
- 10:09Why is the Doctor Who is filmed and stuff like that?
- 10:12Especially when you had a bigger cast and like the last few
- 10:14seasons doing dr. Light episodes, where you get
- 10:18all character lighter episodes where you don't feature people.
- 10:20So much is. I'm surprised they don't do that
- 10:23more. In order to sort of basically
- 10:25get more bang for your buck because you can double double
- 10:28bang can be. Did it shooting more episodes at
- 10:29the same time. I'm just because it allows you
- 10:32to be quite experimental as well.
- 10:34You know, the ones that they did turn left.
- 10:37Blink, love. Monsters.
- 10:39You know, they're, they're divisive story.
- 10:42Some of them but they're doing something a bit different.
- 10:45Yeah, they are. And I just think there's a lot
- 10:47more room for that sort of stuff and also just exploring the
- 10:50lives of the companions more with potentially without a huge
- 10:55kind of input of the doctor. But, you know, I'm not in charge
- 10:58of Doctor Who. So then no one's asked me my
- 11:00thoughts on or May and is a bloody good thing.
- 11:02I'm not as well as seen in practice ideas.
- 11:05When those two hot guys were kissing in the Tardis.
- 11:08Yeah. Not going on.
- 11:13There was a sequence are where they had to kill the robot men,
- 11:17in order to get away and it was, it was a proper kill or be
- 11:20killed like, you know, there was a desperation to talk to you as
- 11:23a really done much of that to this phone and also, you get
- 11:26William Hartnell coming out of a tunnel and beating one of the
- 11:30vicious mock-up when he gets guide.
- 11:32You so, you know, the Romans. Oh yeah, I know.
- 11:35I never buy the the doctors a pacifist I know.
- 11:39Some criticisms that have been leveled at the Jodie, Whittaker
- 11:42areas like how she lets a lot of people die.
- 11:44It's like the doctors always let a lot of people that I always
- 11:47it's just Baker. If he didn't do what they do two
- 11:50or three genocides a week, that was a bad way.
- 11:55William gnashes teeth, that sequence that rather comical
- 11:59sequence in the chase where he's fighting his own double.
- 12:02Yeah, he is. Basically a way.
- 12:03This William Hartnell got no one's going after my fucking job
- 12:06and he's got his stick waving around his head, but he's He's
- 12:09vicious. He is absolutely vicious and I
- 12:12love this touch of these two old women who.
- 12:15I mean the night, one of them sold the other ones.
- 12:16Not two, but four, they're just again, they're opportunists and
- 12:21they see this opportunity like to help the the Daleks in their
- 12:25own way and then they sell out Jenny and Barbara.
- 12:29Also, I don't know whether, you know, very sad story than the
- 12:32younger one, what's her name? Jean Conroy died before this was
- 12:36aired. Seriously Leisure, she died in a
- 12:40road traffic accident. So she yeah.
- 12:41This is a last work as an actor, you know, people are going to
- 12:45say, so not very popular but people mock that John Levine
- 12:48commentary in the time. Was to, do you remember where he
- 12:51goes out about the baby? And it will at least he got to
- 12:54be in Doctor. Who I think what?
- 12:56He's trying to very untapped Feliz.
- 12:58A is at least that person is immortalized and enjoyed.
- 13:02Yeah, laughter, they're deaf and I do think there's something in
- 13:04that. Yeah, no absolutely.
- 13:06I think It's just a little bit, the style of John Levine.
- 13:13Yeah, he got to be a doctor. Who has already died.
- 13:16No job. No, but, you know, I swear this
- 13:20is David Whittaker, all of this character stuff.
- 13:22I think then robo, man, brother, I think a lot of it.
- 13:26I think they did say the neither Terry Nation.
- 13:30It's in that it isn't a documentary.
- 13:32I think Richard Martin says it, that area Nation would write a
- 13:34lot of the during do a lot of the action adventure.
- 13:37A lot of the sort of world setting, then, David Whittaker
- 13:40would give it a once-over, right?
- 13:43And add a lot of the character stuff.
- 13:47That's a shame because I'm giving all the Chrome and it's
- 13:50Terry Nation, but you're probably right, we see.
- 13:53I I've always said you can kind of tell because from script
- 13:59Editor to script editor because Terry Nation did so much Doctor
- 14:01Who over so many periods, like when you get to sign of Genesis
- 14:05of the Daleks suddenly he's doing like morally complex
- 14:08arguments that he's never done before.
- 14:13Destiny of the Daleks suddenly he's doing, you know, hitchhiker
- 14:16style gags, but he's never told, ya know, very true, very true.
- 14:21I'd be interested to see. We always talk about the
- 14:23original scripts, the original version of this but I know big
- 14:26finisher releasing this year that original Genesis of the
- 14:31Daleks, I'll be very interested to see what Terry nation's first
- 14:34version of that was like perhaps without any input from Robert
- 14:37Holmes. I'm headed over my wrath but I
- 14:41can also listen to those first drop these scripts.
- 14:45Me. And you know why?
- 14:46Because I'm scared of that original Jerry.
- 14:48Davis revenge in the seidman was better than the one we got, but
- 14:58I think the Genesis, the dark one is an interesting one and
- 15:02somebody, I know who works for big finish said that on the
- 15:05Genesis one day, DH Tom Baker's voice.
- 15:08You can sound like he did in the 70s, which is a small interest,
- 15:12I don't know, but it made the final thing.
- 15:15But I mean I hope so that be quite interesting to hear we
- 15:18seem to have gone down a mine shaft here we have, which I feel
- 15:22may be pertinent to the plot. We are we're suddenly in a mine
- 15:27shaft with he and his mate. It's again, like they're just
- 15:33the story keeps on going and keeps on a revolving in a way
- 15:35that you know, a lot of it does. Don't feel like there's any
- 15:39padding in these six episodes because all the padding feels
- 15:42like if these little character seems like Barbara with the this
- 15:46old, the old Crone. So I never feel like we're
- 15:50really in a we're really treading water at all it's not
- 15:54going to make it very bizarre, sort tenuous link now between
- 15:57all Terry Nation story. So prepare yourself.
- 16:00They'll be what is Terry Nation obsession with going down in the
- 16:06Daleks, we head down into the city, in this, we have Got into
- 16:09the mines in the chase, we go downstairs into a radius into
- 16:13the city, its master plan, where did he come back o in the planet
- 16:19of the Daleks we head down there, all those Daleks under
- 16:21the in the ice cave, Genesis of the Daleks we head down into the
- 16:23bunker in Destiny of the Daleks, we head down into the city again
- 16:27and in the original version of Destiny of Genesis the dialysis
- 16:32coming out Harry Harry, Sullivan goes down on everybody and
- 16:35that's why they had to rewrite it.
- 16:37Love to see that version. Apparently he does great work on
- 16:41sightless he's pretty Manning is bisexuals are you know rearmost?
- 16:47Yeah, there's this that thing of I think it was it that revealed.
- 16:51It was it Nicholas Courtney or was it?
- 16:53Mr. Slater, I can't remember. But yeah, he's a parent.
- 16:56Oh, and Tom Baker, says an interview that you could just
- 16:58see it in his eyes whenever he was around other sort of queer
- 17:03men. So yeah, it seems like a very
- 17:05sort of well-built bloke. Yeah.
- 17:08Very intelligent but he was awfully fancy Bulger.
- 17:14He comes across lovely and the interviews I've seen with him
- 17:17and I'm sure but, you know, perhaps it wasn't a to do that.
- 17:21A man should be bisexual, especially not a Burly rugby,
- 17:25bloke, lighting back then, so perhaps what we weren't ready
- 17:28for it, then, where were we? So I mean, look at me, I'm so
- 17:32butch. But he said, yeah, I just don't
- 17:37want to know whether He just struggled with it a lot.
- 17:39I mean there's that we may have talked about this last time, but
- 17:42there's that inference. From Katie Manning isn't the
- 17:44Nichols, Courtney, was bisexual as well.
- 17:47Yeah. It's kind of sad, isn't it?
- 17:49So the had to be had to be hidden.
- 17:53What's going on here? They're grabbing load the
- 17:54baskets. Yeah I mean they're just they're
- 17:57just putting some stones in the basket you know.
- 18:00Well the old man looks like he's on death's toward but he is nice
- 18:04but damn that mine for a long time.
- 18:07They're just going to Chuck rest.
- 18:08And they're carry them out. That's what happens.
- 18:12I do, like I do, as this goes on, I do find the robomen more
- 18:16and more effective in a way that I thought, they were quite silly
- 18:19to start with. But I'm actually, they're
- 18:21actually growing on me a lot. I mean, I've already said to you
- 18:24about a scene later, on where the fella has to kill who, he
- 18:31kills his brother. Who's a robot, man, they kill
- 18:33each other and it's probably the bleakest scene.
- 18:37Yeah. Doctor.
- 18:38Who. When is it?
- 18:39Is it now? So, it might be right?
- 18:41Yeah, it is right now. Yeah, that's right.
- 18:43And he's literally firing bullets into his chest and the
- 18:46other ones strangling him. Yeah.
- 18:48And it's like, this is kids TV. It's just not.
- 18:52This is not a happy-go-lucky TV, show right there.
- 18:55I'll bless his name's feel like I don't think there's such a
- 18:58Monday night even the road. Yeah, it is.
- 19:04And they both give well he's giving it his all the other guys
- 19:07giving it his all What does it? What's it say?
- 19:09Honest Nick. There's something correctly.
- 19:11I think it's as charged, right? He's okay.
- 19:14Yeah, it's fully charged up. Yeah, now I'm wondering if that
- 19:18is something that the Daleks do, or whether that's something that
- 19:21the studio people did to go this one, the flashing light works on
- 19:24it, but when they put the numbers on the Daleks, in the
- 19:32he's trying to make him, remember his old life is going
- 19:33your wife, Angela, you know. Do you remember?
- 19:36Yeah. Bill and Angela.
- 19:39I sound like such a lovely couple.
- 19:43Larry came over every Christmas not anymore.
- 19:50Not anymore. That is really really Savage.
- 20:04Yeah. Like they're both selling us, no
- 20:05matter how silly the robo men can be.
- 20:09I think if you're seven years old in the 60s, that's up there
- 20:13with Night of the Living Dead. I'm giving her that.
- 20:16I mean, it's not, it's not like they're expecting people to go
- 20:18there, but you know, like there's me sitting there go, I
- 20:20am playing about in the garden when there were seven years old,
- 20:23having a great old time having no idea in the future, they were
- 20:25going to strangle and blow the shit.
- 20:27Ugh. Oh, this is the seduction scene.
- 20:30Here we go. Oh yeah.
- 20:31It's very exciting. I'm sorry if someone cannot be
- 20:33on me of a great. Slippery Fish.
- 20:35I'll punch you in the face. Yeah.
- 20:36Be like, you're not trying to fuck me.
- 20:39Hey, leave it. If you were, you're not, you're
- 20:41not getting it there, but I stopped fishing me, and start
- 20:44pissing me got a site, but I do believe they chemistry.
- 20:54Yeah, me too. Like I said, I wanted to take,
- 20:56you want to Equities with them for the rest of her all-time,
- 20:59but but I think if you're going to do this, like, set it up and
- 21:05make it, you know, authentic, don't just have layer and add
- 21:09red, hold hands at the end and go.
- 21:10Well, we're staying together. It's one of the more believable
- 21:13character, kind of companion exits.
- 21:16He sort of gently stroking. Her hand.
- 21:18They have a little kiss and then Harden comes in with a cracking
- 21:20line. Something's Cooking the of a
- 21:24kiss. You don't get that, you don't
- 21:26get it. Adam Doctor Who for about
- 21:28another 30 or 40 years? Probably really know Caroline's.
- 21:32Ford is very Adept with playing with that fish, isn't she?
- 21:36Oh, she slapped a few wet fishes around at.
- 21:38I'll start going down as well. I won't sleep tonight honestly.
- 21:44Now, I mean, even like Vicki, her Replacements like her,
- 21:48goodbye is just it's not foreshadowed at all.
- 21:51In the mythmakers, is it? No, this is, there is a sequence
- 21:54where Stephen goes all, that that issue.
- 21:57Greek. And she's like, he's just my
- 21:59friend, you know, leave me alone.
- 22:01Yeah, yeah. Although the mythmakers is such
- 22:04a great script, I don't care. Is it is.
- 22:07But I mean, I don't think I'm Susan's point of view, or
- 22:12Vicki's. I don't know whether I would
- 22:14ever fancy. Someone enough to want to be
- 22:17trapped in an age. That wasn't my own that was in
- 22:20the distant past, because this is the distant past week, Susan
- 22:22Wright as well. Yeah.
- 22:24Like, I don't know, but I don't think the ending.
- 22:27Wants you to think that she thinks that the right decision
- 22:30has been made, because she just staring longingly where the
- 22:32Tardis was and she kind of can't even hold his hand properly
- 22:35because she she sort of she's holding you and he asks all
- 22:38dragged her off. Yeah.
- 22:41Maybe you're making us waste to ponder.
- 22:43Was that the right thing? It's it almost it's almost
- 22:47something that if you I mean it's a plot that you would hope
- 22:50would be Revisited if you were doing it now.
- 22:51But obviously, they didn't realize it.
- 22:53And then when she next meets our grandfather, it's in the Death
- 22:57Zone on Gallifrey. And she doesn't mention a single
- 22:59thing about David. Uh, don't even notice how he's
- 23:02been recast, you know, I know. But she's got a lovely back on
- 23:06that point. That's the main thing that is
- 23:08true and she can still trip over a rock like that.
- 23:11Stop. Oh, she can't she can't.
- 23:13I really like the seen nowhere and I think this is where
- 23:17Richard Martin's that it's best. We just puts a camera on the
- 23:20actors are. Let's the max where Susan says
- 23:24here at Davis. Got an idea for this and the
- 23:26doctors. Like, do you think this young
- 23:28man's got better ideas from each other?
- 23:30Then David comes along and then he says David's idea and she
- 23:33sort of hugs him. Yeah you can kind of see all the
- 23:38beginnings. I like that's a bit I think when
- 23:40I first watched This and I was going.
- 23:41What's happening here? Like the dynamic between
- 23:46Hartnell and Carolyn Ford here. It's just, I think it's really
- 23:50fantastic in a way that I don't always pick up on it and some of
- 23:53the other stories. Like, I really feel like they
- 23:55care for each other in this one, and I believe that it's, you
- 23:59know, that they are grandfather and granddaughter.
- 24:02And, yeah, I still don't think it's a patch on the chemistry,
- 24:06every more and O'Brien. No, not at all, which is why
- 24:08gets over Vicky so soon, I guess.
- 24:11Susan so soon sir what a marvelous replacement of my
- 24:14granddaughter you are and you can act faster another obsession
- 24:21with Terry Nation. You know caring about a lot of
- 24:24rocks. He loves rocks loves - he loves
- 24:27you, yeah, slaves. Those sort of things I'd love to
- 24:30shop, doesn't he? Hey, just because I'd love to
- 24:33see, like some of his other work in for his I.T, I.T cspi series
- 24:37and see whether all these troops are still in it or whether it's
- 24:39writing different. It's tough.
- 24:41So, he'll tell me this wonderful story, right?
- 24:43Where he wrote this story for one of the ITV I TV shows and
- 24:47then he didn't have time to write another script.
- 24:50So we just change the characters names and then wrote the same
- 24:53script for another show. Incredible.
- 24:55And yeah, I've no one noticed that exact, this was a little
- 24:59biography, nobody noticed. That's um, that's amazing,
- 25:03that's, that's fantastic. That's how much I would shown in
- 25:05those things out the. So we're other that but they do
- 25:08have like a bunch of sets for those like old tighty.
- 25:10So you sure. Those and go right this week.
- 25:12Danger man's doing this. This this and this, so in the
- 25:14Champions or whatever you need to use the same sets in, that's
- 25:17just how you do it and that does go to prove what an inspired
- 25:22concept Doctor, Who was because you can't get away with that on
- 25:25this know. The only for is that's the only
- 25:27thing that gets reused a doctor who is that little triangle wall
- 25:30in the 70s and the 80s that appears everywhere from the
- 25:33Tardis to do? You know, the first story that
- 25:35appeared in? Come on, trivia time.
- 25:37I don't think I do. I'm talking about going to be,
- 25:40I'll tell you a bit trivia, this isn't hit me.
- 25:42Hit me. It's, the mutants, is it?
- 25:45Why based in the mutants and the fellow goes on that, they kept
- 25:49using that in every bloody Shogun.
- 25:51And I get a penny for that Killians that fantastic wall.
- 25:56You know, if you ever seen the ray Cusack interviews, when he
- 26:02didn't get any money from the move in with her man?
- 26:04Wasn't it wasn't bitter man. I can't.
- 26:06I was listening to a podcast years ago and they said they
- 26:09were attacking Venture with Ray Cusack.
- 26:11And they were sat with him at the bar and the, you know, he
- 26:15started whinging and telling your stories of being a better
- 26:18man. And they were like, oh, this is
- 26:19quite sad and quite interesting than he just started being
- 26:21extremely racist. They were all there.
- 26:23Okay, see you later Ray. I mean, the more I Brian says
- 26:27that about honoured as a she and the she goes, you know, I loved
- 26:31him. So I just sort of pushed it to
- 26:34one side. Yeah.
- 26:35I've heard people say about Michael Wisher as well but he
- 26:39has Interesting. Political views, should we say?
- 26:42Aye? It was a different time.
- 26:44It was a different time. And you've got to think, like,
- 26:46most of these people were born like, post what?
- 26:49Which before the war most of them actually.
- 26:51So it's like it was a completely different type of is that doll
- 26:54it. Missing its sorry.
- 26:56This is I've only just noticed it's visited missing its light
- 26:58on its Dome, very possible. But like we just said, there
- 27:01were making this in a hurry. Yeah.
- 27:04Oh yeah, it is. Yeah.
- 27:09Lunch. At this point.
- 27:10They just said you just shoot this scene in mind.
- 27:12I'll be back from the pie and chips and a bit.
- 27:14Yeah, no, it's personal item. A very art.
- 27:17So why are Barbara and Jenny now been taken away?
- 27:22Oh, because they've they're going to.
- 27:23They've got some very important news for the leader of the
- 27:25Daleks. I don't know.
- 27:27This is where she's going to talk about.
- 27:28The Boston Tea Party is just great.
- 27:35Okay, so does it does sort of feel like all of our characters
- 27:38are coming to the same place now?
- 27:39Yeah, like it's all ramping up, you know, we're getting ready
- 27:42for a big finale. The Daleks are looking menacing
- 27:46like, can I say that black garlic is pretty damn sexy.
- 27:51You know, it's gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous and that
- 27:53little Hitler salute, one other dialects did just then, again, I
- 27:57remember was achieved. What was the first time you saw
- 28:00the Daleks? And what was your reaction to
- 28:02it? I remember with my ex-husband's,
- 28:04nice. Yeah.
- 28:05I was very very close to and also, I'm going to get her into
- 28:08dr. Lee, I'm going to get a Sunday
- 28:11it as well and I gave her a Dalek toys.
- 28:13She was about two years old and she would not stop touching it
- 28:18all the sticks and the but she couldn't understand it.
- 28:21It really like for me it's the first time I've seen a child
- 28:24absolutely beguiled by this weird shape.
- 28:29Yeah it's that thing that I think Terry Nation like
- 28:32originally said, like he didn't want it to seem human.
- 28:34How do you Make it not seem human and you remove the legs,
- 28:37you move the arms, and you remove the eyes, and it's not
- 28:40even like a cat or a dog or something like that if it's just
- 28:44completely non-human. So you can see why giving that
- 28:47to a child they do. What is this is like nothing
- 28:49I've ever seen before and in some of their most visually
- 28:53interesting things in this, I think you got lots of dollars on
- 28:56the screen and the eyes are going and the sticks are going.
- 28:59And there's lots of sort of weird movement, you're not quite
- 29:01sure where to put your eyes, you know?
- 29:03Yeah. Although I still think you know
- 29:06that the animation, the second animation, they did of power of
- 29:10the Daleks. Yeah, they smooth out all the
- 29:13Dalek animation man. Oh man, and it's so gorgeous.
- 29:17Yeah. So things Garlic's have ever
- 29:19looked better than in that animation.
- 29:21They look great in that and then like a few months later, the BBC
- 29:24dropped their dialects animated online series.
- 29:27Did you see that during lockdown?
- 29:30Not much now because I ruined my mechanoids, I gave him these
- 29:32weird female horses. Well, that's a given some
- 29:36dialogue. Didn't they have end-to-end to
- 29:38stop wasn't going to cut it with, there's your Nazi salute,
- 29:40ya that shot there and it was yeah, my sort of Batman angle.
- 29:45This is a really good shot as a really good shot, but that, the
- 29:48Daleks in that BBC, animated thing, didn't look as good as
- 29:51that second animated, Peridot Alex.
- 29:53It was very odd. I don't, I don't feel like
- 29:56anybody's quite nailed Doctor Who as an animation yet in any
- 29:59kind of format that all the different things they tried over
- 30:02the years from Dreamland to The animations for the missing
- 30:06episodes I just and it's such an obvious idea as well.
- 30:11Yeah, there's a series lends itself to it.
- 30:13I'm very grateful that they've done them because I think adding
- 30:15that visual element does give those chance.
- 30:18Those stories are chance to sort of live in this day and age.
- 30:23I find it very hard to sit through a telescope slideshow
- 30:26refill. I mean I've done bad.
- 30:29This story a million times on these but that time where my
- 30:31ex-husband walked in and I was watching Stills on the TV.
- 30:34So what are you watching? She photographs on the TV.
- 30:38A doctor who stories? Yeah ended.
- 30:43What was going on there? Oh, and I'm not quite at the
- 30:47end. Yes.
- 30:48Now I am. Yeah, it s between us am was in
- 30:52a bomb about to be dropped out of mine.
- 30:54Shaft next episode, flash point, we're still pretty exciting idea
- 30:58in it. Yeah, well I guess we same
- 31:00things that things are ramping up and we're headed for an
- 31:03exciting climax with Susan. And David sigh exciting climax
- 31:08is something. I'm very fond of.
- 31:11Do you think this could be truncated?
- 31:14Because obviously, the An hour and a half.
- 31:17I think it was always reasonable.
- 31:19I think there's always room to truncate classic Doctor Who and
- 31:24I might have said this on the last podcast but I'm a big
- 31:27believer in. If the animations come back.
- 31:29I'm saying, truncate them, give me give me an hour and 20 minute
- 31:34version of Daleks master plan, make a really tight exciting
- 31:37animation. I know it's heresy.
- 31:39So I asked second time on this very story that you've said
- 31:43something that has made half of the ordinary, C-spine shop.
- 31:47The other times when you said they need to remake these ocean,
- 31:52I love it. I'm a man with controversial
- 31:54opinions about this. You know I've Got a Friend by
- 31:57citizen the gardening I did I've got a friend right?
- 31:59I won't Nate and I will name him he's about to bring it has a
- 32:02Blog Stephen be from the new to who podcast exceptionally clever
- 32:08man. What he's doing?
- 32:09Rubbing shoulders with me. I've no idea.
- 32:11Clever bloke and he has taken it upon him.
- 32:15You reimagine the entirety of classic Who in the style of the
- 32:22new series with narrative arcs and I heard that and my blood
- 32:29run cold and I was like, well, that's a chilling.
- 32:31I'd what are you doing? You know, that is Harry.
- 32:34Then he told me as ideas. I'll point you in the direction
- 32:38of it when it comes out very soon.
- 32:40There is like the White and the way he talks about it, so
- 32:43passionately, and the way you bring Written characters like
- 32:46the master and carnal stories and things like this.
- 32:49It was absolutely inspired, I think.
- 32:53Once people got over the initial shock of your idea of like, you
- 32:56know, right Doctor Who's ended Long Live Doctor Who I could be
- 33:02amazing. I think it could to, I think
- 33:05this the so much to mine in sort of classic series that we've
- 33:09kind of done the revisit at all, bring back the old favorite.
- 33:13So what else is there to do now? Obviously, someone like Russell
- 33:16T Davies has gone. I know what we can do and we'll
- 33:18find out what that plan is in due course.
- 33:20But for me, my I've just I Just be tempted to just go start it
- 33:25all again doing the web planet. Now on, I would be absolutely
- 33:31peaceful your trustee David st. See, things, you know what their
- 33:33sector to, off-chip know, and I'm going to bring back the
- 33:36beep. Everything, nothing's off the
- 33:39cards. Now, nothing's off the car, it's
- 33:42gonna be great. But for you and me yeah I think
- 33:45we're heading for a flash point. We are heading for a Flashpoint.
- 33:48Should we go and recharge our glasses and then return to this
- 33:51very spot and A moment's time. Let's do it.
- 33:53A moment's time. Let's do it.
