- 0:01As the three Gunas continue to rotate their action in the
- 0:04external personality, there are times when Rajas presides and
- 0:09there is potentially a sense of ambition and with it a sustained
- 0:14effort. When Thomas presides, however,
- 0:18there is a tendency to fall into despondency or depression,
- 0:22seeing things from a viewpoint of general incapacity and
- 0:26without the energy to break out of the slump.
- 0:29The good thing is that neither of these two states are
- 0:32permanent, as the gunas are always in motion.
- 0:36At times when Sutwa predominates, the individual can
- 0:40understand the issues, the fluctuations, and the rising of
- 0:44various obstacles in the path, and take them with a calm
- 0:49assurance that things will eventually get worked out.
- 0:53These moods come about when the seeker is still mostly attached
- 0:56to the external being and has not yet moved his standpoint to
- 1:01the central being, the psychic being, which maintains the fire
- 1:06of aspiration and consecration and has a direct connection to
- 1:10the Divine. The vital nature is prone to
- 1:14periods of light and dark, progress and retrogression.
- 1:18If the Secret treats these as the reality, they act as
- 1:22distractions from the needed focus.
- 1:25Desire followed by either a sense of shame or guilt if it is
- 1:30satisfied, or a sense of frustration if it is not
- 1:34satisfied, creates an endless loop of drama that leads the
- 1:39seeker astray quite easily. Over time, with patience,
- 1:45perseverance and a faith that understands the complexity and
- 1:49difficulties of the transformations needed, the
- 1:53results will begin to show. As Shrioro Bindo points out, he
- 1:59who chooses the Infinite has been chosen by the Infinite.
- 2:04If the seeker holds on to this truth, he knows that the
- 2:08difficulty he is facing are in fact part of the path, part of
- 2:13the process, part of the sadhna. The main thing is to keep going
- 2:19and not give up hope or wallow in despair, Triorobindo observes
- 2:26quote. There is no reason why you
- 2:30should abandoned hope of success in the yoga.
- 2:33The state of depression which you now feel is temporary, and
- 2:37it comes even upon the strongest sadaks at one time or another,
- 2:41or even often recurs. The only thing needed is to hold
- 2:46firm with the awakened part of the being, to reject all
- 2:51contrary suggestions, and to wait, opening yourself as much
- 2:56as you can to the true power, till the crisis or change of
- 3:00which this depression is a stage is completed.
- 3:04The suggestions which come to your mind, telling you that you
- 3:07are not fit and that you must go back to the ordinary life, are
- 3:12promptings from a hostile source.
- 3:16Ideas of this kind must always be rejected as inventions of the
- 3:19lower nature, even if they are founded on appearances which
- 3:24seem convincing to the ignorant mind.
- 3:27They are false because they exaggerate a passing movement
- 3:31and represent it as the decisive and definite truth.
- 3:36There is only one truth in you on which you have to lay
- 3:39constant. Hold the truth of your divine
- 3:42possibilities and the call of the higher light to your nature.
- 3:48If you hold to that always, or even if you are momentarily
- 3:52shaken from your hold, return constantly to it.
- 3:56It will justify itself in the end, in spite of all
- 3:59difficulties and obstacles and stumblings.
- 4:04All that resists will disappear in time with the progressive
- 4:08unfolding of your spiritual nature.
- 4:12What is needed is the conversion and surrender of the vital part.
- 4:16It must learn to demand only the highest truth, and to forego all
- 4:21insistence on the satisfaction of its inferior impulses and
- 4:25desires. It is this adhesion of the vital
- 4:28being that brings the full satisfaction and joy of the
- 4:32whole nature in the spiritual life.
- 4:35When that is there, it will be impossible even to think of
- 4:39returning to the ordinary existence.
- 4:42Meanwhile, the mental will and the psychic aspiration must be
- 4:47your support. If you insist, the vital will
- 4:51finally yield and be converted and surrendered.
- 4:56Fix upon your mind and heart the resolution to live for the
- 5:00divine truth and for that alone. Reject all that is contrary and
- 5:05incompatible with it, and turn away from the lower desires.
- 5:11Aspire to open yourself to the divine power and to no other.
- 5:16Do this in all sincerity and the present and living help you need
- 5:21will not value. End Quote Reference Srioro
