- 0:00Speaker 1: And Football and four is powered by the Inside the Birds.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Podcasting is brought to you by the Fanatics Sportsbook at
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. That's where we are today,
- 0:09Speaker 1: and of course a lot of people texting in and
- 0:11Speaker 1: thoughts on the Eagles win last night. They are eight
- 0:14Speaker 1: and two, they are the number one seed, they are
- 0:17Speaker 1: in first place. They did win last night. It was
- 0:20Speaker 1: an ugly win though. Jeff Mosher joins us now for
- 0:23Speaker 1: today's edition of Football at four on the Sports Bass
- 0:26Speaker 1: Live on ninety seven to three ESPN. I know they
- 0:28Speaker 1: won the game, and that is what is most important,
- 0:32Speaker 1: But that is a ugly win last night for the
- 0:36Speaker 1: Eagles offensively again.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But I do want to start with.
- 0:38Speaker 1: The defense, and I want to ask the question of
- 0:41Speaker 1: whether or not we think that they can keep up
- 0:46Speaker 1: this level of defense the way they're playing. If the
- 0:49Speaker 1: offense can't hold up their end of the bargain, can
- 0:52Speaker 1: they continue to win with this defense playing like this? Obviously,
- 0:56Speaker 1: but if the offense cannot hold up their end of
- 0:58Speaker 1: the bargain.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Well, I think that's to be determined. Mike, we'll see.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I would say.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I think that against the Packers team, the defense looked
- 1:09Speaker 4: really good, but we know the Packers were really shorthanded
- 1:11Speaker 4: in the wide receiver department.
- 1:13Speaker 3: They lost Tucker Craft and then they lost their.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Center, Elkton Jenkins is a really good player in the
- 1:18Speaker 4: middle of the game. The Lion's totally different in that
- 1:21Speaker 4: that's a team that was averaging thirty points, not struggling offensively.
- 1:25Speaker 3: But they did have two backup offensive.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Linemen in and I think that the two guys who
- 1:30Speaker 4: were starting at guards were not very good compared to
- 1:32Speaker 4: what the Eagles had.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I'm very curious this weekend theoretically.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I mean, the Cowboys played a night so you never
- 1:39Speaker 4: know how they're gonna come out of it.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But they've got their offensive lines back to.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Being healthy, so I think it's gonna be a real
- 1:47Speaker 4: test of this defensive front.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Can they continue to get home.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Collapse pockets put pressure on the quarterback with just four
- 1:54Speaker 4: man rushes the way they have the last two weeks.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Because as if things stay in say, if the Cowboys
- 1:59Speaker 4: are healthy upfront and they're now healthy in the weapons department,
- 2:04Speaker 4: that'll kind of be a little bit of a difference
- 2:05Speaker 4: from the last two teams they've had to play, who
- 2:08Speaker 4: have been a little shorthanded, either one or the other.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you're absolutely right about that, and that is why
- 2:13Speaker 1: you know they're winning. They beat Detroit, who's very good,
- 2:16Speaker 1: by the way, this is a good, very good offense,
- 2:17Speaker 1: talented offense. They beat Green Bay, another good team. These
- 2:20Speaker 1: are two playoff teams. They've beaten the rent. But you know,
- 2:23Speaker 1: you look at this team and you wonder if things
- 2:25Speaker 1: are starting to crack a little bit because of the
- 2:27Speaker 1: ineptitude of the offense, not of the defensive side of
- 2:30Speaker 1: the wall, but you wonder how many more weeks can
- 2:32Speaker 1: the defense give up six points, seven points, ten points
- 2:36Speaker 1: and you expect to be successful. When you watch that
- 2:39Speaker 1: offense last night, what are some of the problems in
- 2:41Speaker 1: that offense that maybe are not fixable.
- 2:46Speaker 3: We don't have enough time, Mike, we don't have enough time.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I mean, let's be real like, and I don't I
- 2:55Speaker 4: think if you watch the team, see you start to
- 2:57Speaker 4: see things you're familiar with.
- 2:59Speaker 3: I don't know that the trying to.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Fix the offense per se by doing a whole lot different.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I mean, their offense is their offense.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I'm sure they're working Wednesday through Saturday on doing what
- 3:11Speaker 4: they normally do better because it's not doing great.
- 3:15Speaker 3: But I heard you say, like, why what was it?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Mike McGarry, He said, why can't they get the ball
- 3:19Speaker 4: to aj Brown and Devonte Smith in the same game?
- 3:23Speaker 5: Right?
- 3:23Speaker 4: And you think of other wide receiver pairings that are able,
- 3:27Speaker 4: like you'll see Justin Jefferson and maybe Jordan Addison get
- 3:30Speaker 4: more catches in the game, Jamark Chase and T Higgins.
- 3:34Speaker 4: But the offenses A doesn't throw at a high volume,
- 3:38Speaker 4: so you're not going to see a whole lot of
- 3:39Speaker 4: spread around targets, right and B it's a simple, basic
- 3:44Speaker 4: offense intended to be that way. And I don't think
- 3:47Speaker 4: that they're going to be radically changing that anytime soon.
- 3:51Speaker 4: I think that would be difficult to do. And it's again,
- 3:54Speaker 4: it's an offense that is catered to the strength.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Of the personnel.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Well, they're saying that it's catered to the strength of
- 4:01Speaker 1: the personnel.
- 4:02Speaker 6: I'm not even sure of saying it's limited to the
- 4:05Speaker 6: weakness to take away the weaknesses of the personnel, right,
- 4:08Speaker 6: I mean, so, I mean that's what they've done for
- 4:12Speaker 6: three years now though, Mike, I mean that's who they are.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Well, and here's the big thing, and see if you agree, obviously,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're right. They have built it around the personnel.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That they had.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They had this offensive line that was great. It allowed
- 4:23Speaker 1: them to run the ball. They had Miles Sanders who
- 4:25Speaker 1: had twelve hundred yards and was a big play running back.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Then they switched him out, brought in DeAndre Swift and
- 4:30Speaker 1: he had a thousand yard season. Then they switched him
- 4:33Speaker 1: out and they brought in Saquon Barkley and he had
- 4:35Speaker 1: a two thousand yard season. The offensive line is the
- 4:40Speaker 1: one big problem, and they got a big hit today
- 4:42Speaker 1: by losing Lane Johnson. I would imagine he's done for
- 4:44Speaker 1: the year with a Liz Fronk injury. But that offensive
- 4:47Speaker 1: line as a whole is the is why this offense
- 4:51Speaker 1: is struggling, is it not.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It's a big part of it, certainly, because again, when
- 4:56Speaker 4: you don't have the running game and the running lanes
- 4:59Speaker 4: that you used to have last year, especially then it
- 5:02Speaker 4: takes the pressure off a passing game that is not
- 5:05Speaker 4: doesn't have a high ceiling.
- 5:06Speaker 3: We know this. That's not an indictment of anybody. It's
- 5:10Speaker 3: not a criticism.
- 5:11Speaker 4: The last two years, the pass offense has not been
- 5:14Speaker 4: a featured part. That's not been like one of the
- 5:17Speaker 4: league's best pass offenses. It's been the ability to run
- 5:20Speaker 4: the ball well and work the passing game off of it.
- 5:23Speaker 4: They haven't asked a lot we talk about all the time.
- 5:25Speaker 4: They just don't want to turn the ball over. They
- 5:27Speaker 4: play carefully, they take shots downfield when they're presented, and
- 5:31Speaker 4: they typically hit on.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Those shots downfield. Right.
- 5:34Speaker 4: But when you take that running element away, and when
- 5:36Speaker 4: you take the offensive line's ability to really dominate the
- 5:40Speaker 4: line of scrimmage away, then you take a lot of
- 5:42Speaker 4: what their offense is predicated on away.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And I guess the question off of that is can
- 5:51Speaker 1: they then pivot and be and do something else? They
- 5:53Speaker 1: seemingly have the personnel you would think, Hey, I got
- 5:56Speaker 1: a j Brown, I got Devon Dae Smith, I've got
- 5:58Speaker 1: Johan Dots, and I've got Goddard. Can I shift my
- 6:03Speaker 1: focus and maybe become more of a passing team?
- 6:08Speaker 5: No?
- 6:09Speaker 4: You know, can the Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow, Remember
- 6:12Speaker 4: they won all those games at the end of last
- 6:14Speaker 4: year and almost made the playoffs after being like five
- 6:17Speaker 4: or six games down. Could they pivot if they needed
- 6:20Speaker 4: to and become a run team like the Eagles?
- 6:23Speaker 3: No? They're not built like that. They have a terrible
- 6:26Speaker 3: offensive line.
- 6:27Speaker 4: So you're not gonna feed your running back Chase Brown
- 6:29Speaker 4: as good as he is, like thirty five carries a
- 6:32Speaker 4: game or have some committee because that's not the strength
- 6:35Speaker 4: of what you do, right, So, no, you can't change
- 6:38Speaker 4: your identity when your identity is your offensive line and
- 6:42Speaker 4: it's struggling to you can't scheme around it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I like to say, you can't play hide the quarterback.
- 6:47Speaker 3: You can't play hide this, can't play hide.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Your your number two corner or your number one corner
- 6:51Speaker 4: if he's not good. This is not something that's hideable.
- 6:54Speaker 4: An offensive line that just isn't at its best.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So why do we think again, they targeted AJ all
- 7:01Speaker 1: night last night. I thought there was an interesting question
- 7:03Speaker 1: to AJ after the game, and he didn't really have
- 7:05Speaker 1: a great answer for it. I think he was a
- 7:07Speaker 1: little thrown off by it. And the question was asked, AJ,
- 7:12Speaker 1: you got a lot of targets this week, and yet
- 7:14Speaker 1: the result was the same that the offense struggled. Why
- 7:18Speaker 1: do you think that was? He didn't really have much
- 7:20Speaker 1: to say for that. So his whole point has been like, hey,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I want to contribute Okay, you did contribute this week
- 7:25Speaker 1: and here we are, So why is the pass game
- 7:30Speaker 1: so inempt.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Well, if this were a courtroom, I would throw the objection.
- 7:34Speaker 4: You're on or in on that question, because I mean,
- 7:36Speaker 4: eleven targets is a lot. But what was his average
- 7:39Speaker 4: yards per target? And what was his average arge per catch?
- 7:41Speaker 4: I think you averaged seven point eight yards per catch? Right,
- 7:44Speaker 4: that's like that's like a running game type passing game.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Basically you're just throwing short through that he wasn't He
- 7:51Speaker 4: wasn't featured the way he would like to be featured,
- 7:54Speaker 4: which is, you know, on more than just comebacks and slants.
- 7:59Speaker 4: There's nothing more glaring to me, Mike. And I'm not
- 8:01Speaker 4: trying to praise the Lions and a loss. They you know,
- 8:03Speaker 4: the Eagles just completely dominated them. But is it not
- 8:07Speaker 4: glaring to watch how the Lions or to get the
- 8:10Speaker 4: ball of their players. They're explosive players in space and
- 8:13Speaker 4: watch amazing things happen, like Jamir.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Gibbs just dancing, and I get it.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Jamir Gibbs is one of one, and Jamison Williams has
- 8:20Speaker 4: speed to and maybe these guys that the Eagles have,
- 8:23Speaker 4: like Devonte Smiths a great route runner. A. J.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Brown's a strong, physical player. Saquon is a unique running back.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Maybe they don't all run four two forties or anything,
- 8:32Speaker 4: but they're playmakers. How often do you see them getting
- 8:35Speaker 4: the ball in a type of in a in a
- 8:38Speaker 4: lead or with with with the ball out in front so.
- 8:41Speaker 3: They can make yards after the catch. Almost never.
- 8:44Speaker 4: It's a stop route, it's a slant inside a zone
- 8:47Speaker 4: where there's gonna be a safety to come up make
- 8:49Speaker 4: a hit.
- 8:49Speaker 3: It's a comeback.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Every once in a while you'll get yards after a
- 8:52Speaker 4: catch because Jalen does a good job of hitting somebody
- 8:56Speaker 4: in stride down the field where it's the he leads
- 8:59Speaker 4: it and then it's a touchdown like a bomb.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:01Speaker 4: That's a little bit different than what I'm talking about
- 9:03Speaker 4: as far as using every blade of grass on the
- 9:06Speaker 4: field to get good players in space and let them create.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Well, the Lions sue, I mean, they play a tremendous
- 9:13Speaker 1: amount of man coverage, and it just felt like the
- 9:15Speaker 1: Eagles were ill prepared for man coverage.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Almost like you're thinking, like.
- 9:19Speaker 1: What are you running in the past game against this
- 9:22Speaker 1: man coverage? And it just seemed perplexing that the play
- 9:27Speaker 1: design was not ready for man coverage.
- 9:31Speaker 4: It's interesting because the Lions played a lot of Cover three,
- 9:33Speaker 4: which is typically a zone look, but they would play
- 9:37Speaker 4: man with under it within within that coverage. So it's
- 9:41Speaker 4: possible that was a conf you know, we've seen them.
- 9:43Speaker 4: The Eagles do a lot of things. I mean, opponents
- 9:46Speaker 4: do a lot of things.
- 9:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Earlier in the year, we talked about how much like
- 9:50Speaker 4: the Broncos and the Bucks were blitzing in the first
- 9:52Speaker 4: half and then completely backing off and changing the picture
- 9:55Speaker 4: in the second half. So teams are absolutely doing things
- 9:57Speaker 4: differently against the Eagles. But like at the same time,
- 10:01Speaker 4: it's not like they're reinventing a wheel of coverage either.
- 10:04Speaker 4: You know, the Egles just don't adjust well as a staff,
- 10:07Speaker 4: as a personnel group, I mean, but because again they
- 10:10Speaker 4: don't have they don't have a whole lot in the
- 10:12Speaker 4: bag to go do you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 10:15Speaker 4: they do what they do.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It just it is, they do what they do, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: they did it very well for a time, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and listen, they we go back to twenty twenty two,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I mean even Jalen's first year, they were two and
- 10:28Speaker 1: five and then they started to run the ball and
- 10:30Speaker 1: they just ran it all over you. I think the
- 10:32Speaker 1: offensive line is beat up and it is battered, and
- 10:35Speaker 1: it is taking a toll over these last you know,
- 10:38Speaker 1: four seasons, and you're starting to see that right now.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And I guess the question is do they not trust
- 10:43Speaker 1: that Jalen Hurts can put more in the past game
- 10:46Speaker 1: into his hands here to say, hey, we're gonna have
- 10:49Speaker 1: to now kind of become more of a pass first
- 10:52Speaker 1: offense as opposed to running the ball. I don't know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but it's it's gonna be hard. Well, and Saquan had
- 11:02Speaker 1: eighty some yards last night. I wouldn't say that that
- 11:04Speaker 1: he had a great game though. I mean I thought
- 11:06Speaker 1: big at Bigsby. You know, it's a weird situation and
- 11:10Speaker 1: all of a sudden where Bakesby is like, hey, that
- 11:12Speaker 1: guy gives you a little extra burst, right, I mean, like.
- 11:15Speaker 4: He had that seventeen yard run on a really well
- 11:17Speaker 4: designed pin poll sweep and I'm like, oh, I remember
- 11:20Speaker 4: the pin poll. They pulled that out like a week
- 11:22Speaker 4: or two ago, and both him and Saquon were the beneficiaries.
- 11:26Speaker 4: But it seemed like that was it seemed like the
- 11:28Speaker 4: wheel I remember I always talking about the wheel that
- 11:30Speaker 4: they spinned some time. The wheel was like, oh, let's
- 11:32Speaker 4: do pinpull on and it just so happens Big b
- 11:35Speaker 4: Bigsby was in the game.
- 11:37Speaker 3: It's how often did they go back to it? Not
- 11:39Speaker 3: very often?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Eight point five yards of carry by the way for
- 11:42Speaker 1: Bagsby four carries for thirty four yards for Bagsby Barkley
- 11:46Speaker 1: had twenty six for eighty three. That's three point two.
- 11:48Speaker 1: The yards just aren't there. I think the offensive line
- 11:50Speaker 1: is a big issue. Jeff Boscher from the Inside the
- 11:53Speaker 1: Birds podcast, Phillyvoice dot Com.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Obviously, this Derek.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Gun And is very interesting to me because Derek is
- 12:02Speaker 1: a guy who's not a sensationalism kind of guy. He's
- 12:05Speaker 1: not a hot taker. Here's what Derek Gunn said on
- 12:08Speaker 1: the post game last night.
- 12:10Speaker 5: There's a lot of people in that organization that are
- 12:12Speaker 5: frustrated with a quarterback situation right now. But the quarterback
- 12:16Speaker 5: understands he has them over a barrel. This is almost
- 12:19Speaker 5: Carson went Part two. They're not gonna eat this kind
- 12:21Speaker 5: of money yet, there's no way they're gonna eat this
- 12:23Speaker 5: kind of money. Look at the capit they took when
- 12:25Speaker 5: he got rid of Carson they look at. Took took
- 12:27Speaker 5: them a couple of years to get back on solid
- 12:29Speaker 5: ground again, footing because they were handcuff financial because of
- 12:32Speaker 5: what they old in the capit they took with Carson Wentz,
- 12:37Speaker 5: you got the same scenario here with a bigger volume
- 12:40Speaker 5: of money involved.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Here.
- 12:42Speaker 1: There's just like an insane amount of stuff here. He
- 12:46Speaker 1: has them over a barrel as if like he knows
- 12:49Speaker 1: he's the problem. But what are you gonna do about it?
- 12:51Speaker 1: That's what entered my head there, Carson Wentz Part.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Two, The Chiefs eight two.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And you're talking about like, what do you mean that
- 13:00Speaker 1: comment from Derek, who obviously a very very well respected guy.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Well, you know, you've known me for a long time
- 13:08Speaker 4: and you've done Inside the Birds for a long time.
- 13:10Speaker 4: And the one reason why we're very we keep it.
- 13:13Speaker 4: You know, we don't just let anybody work for Inside
- 13:15Speaker 4: the Birds. You have to really know the game and
- 13:18Speaker 4: be inside. So I respect Erek. He has great contacts,
- 13:22Speaker 4: great intel. He appears on Inside the Birds twice a
- 13:25Speaker 4: week called Birds Weekly with Great Didinger, So I absolutely
- 13:28Speaker 4: am positive he'll be expanding on those comments this week.
- 13:32Speaker 4: I'm Birds Weekly on Inside the Birds and what I
- 13:34Speaker 4: make of it is, you know, and this is listen.
- 13:38Speaker 4: We've talked about this too. Go back to last year
- 13:41Speaker 4: they won the Super Bowl. But at two and two,
- 13:43Speaker 4: you remember Brandon Graham going on this show and saying, hey,
- 13:46Speaker 4: we went over to Joon Hurts's house to kind of
- 13:50Speaker 4: show him what it's like to loosen up and put
- 13:52Speaker 4: your arm around guy.
- 13:53Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, Like this stuff is followed.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Hurts for a little bit about how he appeals to
- 13:58Speaker 4: everybody in the locker room and stuff like that.
- 14:01Speaker 3: When you win super Bowls and you're Super Bowl MVP.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Administers for a little while, but then when you start
- 14:08Speaker 4: not only I mean not having good offensive games, but
- 14:11Speaker 4: it becomes really bad and even last year, this feels
- 14:14Speaker 4: like worse than last year offensively.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Then that stuff comes back out again. But you know, I.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Don't doubt that there's any truth, I mean, any falsity
- 14:23Speaker 4: to what Derek is saying. And I've heard Adam and
- 14:26Speaker 4: I have heard things consistently throughout the years about you know,
- 14:29Speaker 4: jailing inside that.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Complex.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You well listen, and that was my question. This is
- 14:36Speaker 1: becoming Carson Wentz Part two is the part that really
- 14:39Speaker 1: clouds it a little for me, Carson was a guy
- 14:42Speaker 1: that it seemed like people just didn't like, or couldn't
- 14:45Speaker 1: connect with, or didn't get.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Along with, or just couldn't understand.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Are we insinuating that they can't connect with Jalen or
- 14:54Speaker 1: is it more they are so disenchanted with what the
- 14:58Speaker 1: offense has to be because of Jalen Well.
- 15:03Speaker 4: I think when you work in the NFL and when
- 15:04Speaker 4: you work in a football environment in locker room, those
- 15:07Speaker 4: things kind of can get tied, right.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I mean, how often do you this is independent?
- 15:12Speaker 4: But just to show an example, like why do you
- 15:15Speaker 4: quarterbacks take their linement out for dinner?
- 15:17Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:17Speaker 4: Because they're trying to forge a chemistry off the field
- 15:22Speaker 4: that they believe will benefit them on the field. Because
- 15:25Speaker 4: what you do to get it's a team sport. It's
- 15:28Speaker 4: the most team sport of all the team sports. It
- 15:30Speaker 4: requires everybody to be on the same page. So what
- 15:33Speaker 4: you're asking me is is a question of is this
- 15:35Speaker 4: an off field thing or an on field thing? And
- 15:37Speaker 4: I'm saying, like, you don't necessarily have to separate the
- 15:41Speaker 4: two because relationships off the field and football are a
- 15:45Speaker 4: very big deal about how they work on the field.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I mean listen to AJ Brown? Does AJ Brown sound
- 15:51Speaker 3: like he and Jalen Hurts are best friends like they
- 15:53Speaker 3: used to be.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I don't know that they I think it's.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Pretty well known now that they're not came out and
- 16:00Speaker 3: said it last year. A.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know that they have any interaction at
- 16:05Speaker 1: this point at almost.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I think that's I think that's a good point.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So that that is why you know, he says he
- 16:11Speaker 1: has them over a barrel, and you're thinking, my gosh,
- 16:14Speaker 1: like would the team like to move on from him
- 16:17Speaker 1: if they could?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Is that what he's insinuating?
- 16:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's an phrase and expression that that
- 16:25Speaker 4: can mean a lot of things, and I'm sure Derek
- 16:27Speaker 4: will expand on it.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It could mean a lot of things, generally none of
- 16:30Speaker 1: the positives.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Well, that's true. That is true now.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Well, so it's hard to predict the future, Mike, because
- 16:37Speaker 4: we don't know what's going to happen. If the Eagles
- 16:39Speaker 4: win the Super Bowl again, they're in the Super Bowl,
- 16:42Speaker 4: then everybody, I'm sure nobody's gonna be complaining too much, right,
- 16:46Speaker 4: But if this team doesn't make a deep playoff run,
- 16:49Speaker 4: if the offense continues to be dormant, let's face it,
- 16:54Speaker 4: or just not impactful changes are going to be made.
- 16:57Speaker 4: I used to have a favorite phrase, Adam loves it.
- 17:00Speaker 4: I said, nobody hires and fires coaches when they make
- 17:03Speaker 4: the playoffs more than the Eagles. And if you go
- 17:05Speaker 4: back and look, the Eagles have had some major major
- 17:09Speaker 4: changes and their coaching staff in front front office in
- 17:12Speaker 4: years that they made the playoffs, they just didn't go
- 17:15Speaker 4: as far as they were supposed to go. Remember Doug
- 17:17Speaker 4: Peterson twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, coaching changes forced on him,
- 17:22Speaker 4: things like that. So, and this goes back to Andy
- 17:24Speaker 4: as well. So I think that we have to see
- 17:27Speaker 4: how this season plays out. And it wouldn't surprise me
- 17:30Speaker 4: if they if the Eagles get bounced out of the
- 17:32Speaker 4: first round or really finish on a bad note, that
- 17:35Speaker 4: changes wouldn't be made.
- 17:35Speaker 3: I'm sure it would.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Listen, I think I'm at the point where I think
- 17:40Speaker 1: this is the last time you're going to see this
- 17:41Speaker 1: offense as is.
- 17:44Speaker 2: AJ.
- 17:45Speaker 3: That's probably fair.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think they're like they're they're watching
- 17:49Speaker 1: this and they're saying, we have so much money invested
- 17:51Speaker 1: into this offense and it's not the ROI is not
- 17:54Speaker 1: there and it's one of those things we have to
- 17:58Speaker 1: break it up the year early, if we have have to,
- 18:00Speaker 1: before we hold on to it for too long. I
- 18:02Speaker 1: think if you're watching this right now, you're saying something.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And I actually made the comment when they gave Barkley
- 18:07Speaker 1: the extension, kind of scratched my head a little bit.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And it was nice that you did the guy right
- 18:12Speaker 1: because he got the two thousand yards, But you have
- 18:16Speaker 1: to now wonder whether or not you've already paid for
- 18:19Speaker 1: his best season behind this offensive line, which is starting
- 18:22Speaker 1: to break down a little bit, and the question is
- 18:24Speaker 1: most it almost feels like this is the Turah for
- 18:27Speaker 1: this offense. Can they make it to the finish line
- 18:29Speaker 1: intact with this defense? And it's like, can we scratch
- 18:33Speaker 1: and claw with this defense? Worth one last run with
- 18:37Speaker 1: this group of guys.
- 18:39Speaker 3: It could turn out to be that way.
- 18:41Speaker 4: You know, I'm reluctant to really because you just never know,
- 18:43Speaker 4: You absolutely never know how it's gonna turn out. And
- 18:46Speaker 4: there's also been times like last year, excuse me, where
- 18:49Speaker 4: everything looked terrible for four weeks and all of a
- 18:51Speaker 4: sudden fifty five points.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Right, I mean all of a sudden the Super Bowl.
- 18:56Speaker 3: So I'll be very curious to say.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I mean, I really think though that the here's what
- 19:01Speaker 4: we always credit Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurry being. Sometimes
- 19:04Speaker 4: they make moves in the moment that don't make sense
- 19:06Speaker 4: or seem like panic moves or reactionary, but then when
- 19:10Speaker 4: we look back on it, we say, as you just mentioned,
- 19:12Speaker 4: they were ahead of it, they understood, they didn't get
- 19:15Speaker 4: clouded by past success. They made a change when they
- 19:18Speaker 4: felt change was really necessary, and they've done a good
- 19:21Speaker 4: job of that. I mean, even unpopular moves over the
- 19:24Speaker 4: last five six seven years have turned out and worked
- 19:27Speaker 4: in their favor. So the one thing we know, right,
- 19:31Speaker 4: if they're not satisfied with the product, even if the
- 19:34Speaker 4: product look like it's in good shape, right, they will
- 19:37Speaker 4: make drastic changes if they feel that's necessary.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Jeff Boss with us Ley Johnson four to six weeks
- 19:45Speaker 1: Liz Frank. I guess Fred Johnson would go there, but
- 19:48Speaker 1: that's an injury that you usually don't see a guy
- 19:51Speaker 1: come back from in the actual same season.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I was a little surprised by the four to six.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Now I know there's the Liz Frank's sprain, which is
- 19:59Speaker 4: what he reportedly had versus the Liz Frank fracture. Yes,
- 20:02Speaker 4: which is worse, and that's usually season ending, so perhaps,
- 20:07Speaker 4: but I still think a four to six is probably
- 20:11Speaker 4: being generous. B with that kind of injury, you can't
- 20:15Speaker 4: really do a whole lot, you know, like there are
- 20:17Speaker 4: some knee injuries or ankle injuries where you can still
- 20:20Speaker 4: keep your conditioning, ride a bike, you know, do something
- 20:22Speaker 4: like that.
- 20:23Speaker 3: This one's a tough one, man.
- 20:24Speaker 4: You really got to let that thing yield and can't
- 20:27Speaker 4: do too much from a conditioning standpoint. But if you're
- 20:30Speaker 4: a optimist, you say, hey, look, the Eagles are making
- 20:32Speaker 4: the playoffs. They were winning this division barring like the
- 20:35Speaker 4: biggest collapse, So if he was back for the playoffs,
- 20:37Speaker 4: then they should be fine.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I agree that. And you know what somebody brought up.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I think it was maybe Grayson earlier brought up the
- 20:43Speaker 1: point of they might clinch the division by before Christmas.
- 20:49Speaker 4: No, seriously, but if let's say the Cowboys loose tonight, Okay,
- 20:54Speaker 4: that's five games, right, is that not a five game
- 20:56Speaker 4: lead they would have over the Cowboys?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Cowboys are what three five one right now? And yeah, yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 1: so they could clinch if they beat if Dallas loses
- 21:08Speaker 1: this week and you beat Dallas next week. You're playing
- 21:10Speaker 1: a lot of meaningless football, which means you could get
- 21:14Speaker 1: landed Dickerson. Now you're still trying to play for the
- 21:16Speaker 1: number one seed. That does that does matter. So I
- 21:18Speaker 1: don't know that you can just sit those guys.
- 21:20Speaker 3: No, no, no, they got to get they want that
- 21:22Speaker 3: number one seed.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 21:23Speaker 1: So I don't know that you could just sit some
- 21:24Speaker 1: of these guys and hope they get healthy. Hey, you
- 21:27Speaker 1: don't have to play for the next four weeks. We'll
- 21:28Speaker 1: use you. Get your knees healthy, get your ankle health,
- 21:31Speaker 1: to get every you know, so this will be interesting.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'll tell you what though, I talked about.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It last week, how it felt like, you know, when
- 21:38Speaker 1: San Francisco came in here and some people were like,
- 21:40Speaker 1: this defense is way different. That would never It's not
- 21:43Speaker 1: the defense that would worry me. It's and they won
- 21:46Speaker 1: last night, and you're starting to see a little bit
- 21:48Speaker 1: of doubt that the offense can figure out what their
- 21:52Speaker 1: problems are.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's been several weeks in a row now,
- 21:57Speaker 4: I mean the Giants game feels like three years ago.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I think now people start to see it as that
- 22:02Speaker 4: was the Giants, and they're I think what I think
- 22:07Speaker 4: I sense from just listening to fans right is that
- 22:10Speaker 4: you're you're looking for the Eagles to get it together
- 22:14Speaker 4: because they did something, not just because all of a
- 22:17Speaker 4: sudden one day the offense clicked and they scored thirty
- 22:19Speaker 4: five point like they did against the Giants and then
- 22:21Speaker 4: went back. You're looking for schematically innovatively something from a player,
- 22:26Speaker 4: something to get this thing going and make it look better.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But you see the.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Same product style week after week after week, and at
- 22:34Speaker 4: this point you're just hoping that it works better than
- 22:38Speaker 4: it did the prior week.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
- 22:40Speaker 4: Like you're not seeing radical changes in how they go
- 22:42Speaker 4: about operating their offense.
- 22:46Speaker 5: All right?
- 22:46Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher check out his great piece on the defense,
- 22:49Speaker 1: which played well last night over at Philly Voice. Codordy
- 22:54Speaker 1: Jackson had big moments in the game. He played well
- 22:57Speaker 1: at some times. I thought that the Brandy Graham had
- 22:59Speaker 1: a big playing that game. By the way, he made
- 23:02Speaker 1: a huge play on that fourth down stop. Phillips had
- 23:05Speaker 1: a great game. Dean stood out in the game. Jordan
- 23:10Speaker 1: Davis played very well. Carter played but they played very
- 23:12Speaker 1: well on defense. How much longer?
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, they keep this up, man, I don't know, Nicole.
- 23:17Speaker 3: That's why you know, there's a lot of football left
- 23:19Speaker 3: to play.
- 23:19Speaker 4: There's a ton of games left, right, I mean seven
- 23:22Speaker 4: games is like an eternaty.
- 23:23Speaker 3: It's almost half a season.
- 23:24Speaker 4: And you know what if you get two injuries, you know,
- 23:27Speaker 4: what if you lose a pass rusher and what if
- 23:29Speaker 4: Queen Don Mitchell you know, stubs, sprains and ankles out
- 23:32Speaker 4: for three. I mean, you're a different team if you
- 23:34Speaker 4: don't have this defensive effort and all eleven playing like this.
- 23:38Speaker 4: So just got to hope everything goes their way so far,
- 23:44Speaker 4: all right?
- 23:44Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher from the Inside the Birds podcast check that
- 23:46Speaker 1: out on all podcasting platforms and he'll be back on Wednesday.
