- 3:30tonight we're gonna be filling the end for Natalie y'all. She's on vacation and
- 3:37she's stuck in the air. So tonight we're gonna be talking about natural mental
- 3:43minority mental health awareness. So me and my ssid Key, let me bring
- 3:49our own up. Let me bring our own up. We're gonna be talking
- 3:52about some mental health on tonight. Since this is minority Mental Health Aware this
- 4:00month, I'm just gonna share some different things to hopefully help someone on tonight.
- 4:08So for those that don't know who I am, I am Angela Thomas
- 4:12Smith. I am one of the co owners of the Prow podcast, and
- 4:16I'm also going to be a host soon. So welcome, welcome, welcome,
- 4:21and my side keep tonight is Hello. I'm Apostle Tamla Lucas, and
- 4:30my ministry has come home. Stop talking about it, and we talk about
- 4:34everything. You know what I was growing up, churches didn't talk about everything,
- 4:40but I talk about everything, because why when we leave out those poor
- 4:44doors, we have to live and we have to teach people how to live
- 4:47in this world each day. So I'm glad we're talking about mental health.
- 4:55I talked about this all the time because it's necessary, even though people want
- 5:00to keep people to the curb and tell people just pray about it. No,
- 5:02it has to you have to go deeper than prayer. So I'm glad
- 5:08we're talking about this tonight. Well, I want to think that wanted me
- 5:15tonight and in UM, before we get started, I really would like,
- 5:20UM, if you would lead us in a prayer. UM, if you
- 5:25would hallelujah. They're heavy. Father, we just give you praise and glory
- 5:32and honor. We thank you for being a long suffering God. I understand
- 5:36that God, you said, there is nothing that we go through that you
- 5:41you know can't feel. You can feel our pain, you can feel a
- 5:45hurt, you can feel our sadness, our loneliness, anything that we go
- 5:49through you can feel that, hallelujah. And that's why you had allowed us
- 5:55halleluzh to come together, hollelup, to love on each each other. You
- 6:00gave us different things to do, hollelujah, to equip us hallelujah, so
- 6:06we can have a successful life. Lord, because your words that day they
- 6:11keep their mind state on thee, you would keep them in perfect peace.
- 6:15Hallelujah. So Lord, we thank you right now halleluacause we need a solution.
- 6:20People need solution hallelujah. How do they keep their mind and perfect peace?
- 6:28Halleluahen things is just happening over and over and over again. We just
- 6:32thank you Lord because you say you're going to lead a comforteror here for us.
- 6:36Hallelujah. So we thank you Lords that you're leading guidance. Lord,
- 6:41give us the strength that we need, the understanding that we need, the
- 6:46guidance. We thank you, hallelujah for your word. We thank you for
- 6:50just placing different people of different walks in our lives to help us, to
- 6:57push us and to help us stay on a narrow way. Oh Lord,
- 7:00we're asking that we reached somebody and change somebody, Halleluiah. And Jesus name
- 7:06Amen. Amen, I definitely thank this opportunity. Wants to be able to
- 7:15share and just touch on um mental health on tonight. We're not gonna be
- 7:20before you guys very long. UM. We just want to when when I
- 7:26started the prow podcast, UM, and I'm so grateful for Apostle Tamla because
- 7:32she will come along and and and and and and just about protect on anything
- 7:38that I present before her. And we was just trying to figure out something
- 7:43that we could do to give back, um, being that we were podcasters
- 7:47and that we were doing different things. So this is how the Crew podcast
- 7:53really begun. And tonight we're stepping in and we're being home because we have
- 8:01to do what we have to do to make sure that this network, um,
- 8:05it's being fulfilled and that we are doing what was placed in our heart,
- 8:09and that is to be able to provide content, to be able to
- 8:13provide resources, and to be able to provide things that somebody may need out
- 8:20here. You know, they may be tuning in. You never know when
- 8:24when people expect you to be on, they expect you to be on,
- 8:28and you never know what the next person may be going through. So we're
- 8:31we're always here to step in and to do what we have to do.
- 8:35Tonight, I just want to share some statistics UM I was looking at and
- 8:39when we talk about minority mental health, and minority does not just mean US
- 8:45brown, US black people, US African American UM. You have also included
- 8:50in minority, have the Hispanic community and and and those communities too have been
- 9:00affected by this this this mental health discrepancy I guess you would say, or
- 9:07disparity UM that they have UM because a lot of people I know, with
- 9:11a lot of brown people, we don't like to talk about it. We
- 9:15don't like to to go out and seek outside help. We don't like to
- 9:20let people know what's going on. They we have this mentality of what's going
- 9:26on in our home, stay in our home. We don't want it to
- 9:28come outside our home, and we're afraid of what people are gonna think.
- 9:33But I'm telling you, you're looking at someone that battle depression for I want
- 9:39to say fifteen sixteen years and did not know what it was because no one
- 9:45never really explained to me what I was going through. And until I went
- 9:50through domestic violence and was diagnosed with PTSD and and had to deal with all
- 9:58of that that I find find out that I had been battled in depression all
- 10:01those years. So you know what, I had to go lay on that
- 10:05couch. I not only had to see a psychiatrist, I had to see
- 10:11two therapists. But you know what, I knew something was right. You
- 10:20know, I knew something wasn't right. But everybody don't understand and don't know
- 10:24that there's not something going wrong with them. So we like to share different
- 10:31little things. So tonight I'm gonna share this. It's say, in twenty
- 10:35twenty one, it was estimated that thirty nine percent of black or African American
- 10:41adults, twenty five percent of Asian adults, and thirty six percent of Hispanic
- 10:46and Latino adults were suffering from mental illness. And you think about the compared
- 10:54at the fifty two percent of none Hispanic whites. These people were actually getting
- 11:03the help that they needed, but we wouldn't. And and I look at
- 11:09the reasons why a lot of us don't get the necessary help that we need
- 11:16because a lot of times when we go to get help, they diagnose us
- 11:22with other stuff. They tell us other stuff is wrong with us, instead
- 11:26of what it's really going wrong. With us. So a lot of it
- 11:31is misdiagnosis and a lot of it is just lack of not knowing and not
- 11:39knowing. But tonight, um, we're gonna be coming from a couple of
- 11:43different angles. And again, we're not gonna be before you long. Um.
- 11:46I asked Apostle if she would give us some biblical scriptures, Um,
- 11:52some scriptures that we could share that would talk about mental illness and how you
- 11:58know, we we can move on past this, y'all. So I want
- 12:03her to share the scriptures and then we're gonna talk about it. If y'all
- 12:07have questions, y'all have comments, We want y'all to be We want y'all
- 12:09to interact in the comment section and let us know your thoughts, let us
- 12:15know your concerns. Okay, I'm coming from the first one. I got
- 12:24three stories to talk about. The first story is First Samuel chapter fifteen.
- 12:30No, I'm sorry, First Samuel chapter sixteen through verses fourteen. So First
- 12:39Samuel chapter sixteen, verse fourteen. But the spirit of the Lord departed from
- 12:43Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord trouble him, and Saul's servants
- 12:48say unto him. Behold now an evil spirit from God trouble thee. Let
- 12:54our Lord now command our servants which or before thee, to seek out a
- 13:00man who is a conning player of a heart. And it shall come to
- 13:05pass when the evil spirit from God is a pon thee, that he shall
- 13:09play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. And Saul said to
- 13:15his servants, provide me now a man that can play well, and bring
- 13:20him to me. Then answer one of the servants and said, behold,
- 13:24I had seen a son of Jesse. And the son of Jesse is David.
- 13:30And David was a person that he was a young boy, but he
- 13:35has so much faith, you know. And Saul he hated, he hated.
- 13:43But God used David to bring peace to Saul because Saul, because he
- 13:52had evil thoughts and evil ways. God, so, okay, you don't
- 13:54want to obey me. I'm gonna have these dames come to you. And
- 13:58so he was battling in his mind. But the only peace and comfort he
- 14:03can have was from a person who he called an enemy, and that was
- 14:07David. But David came, and David did not judge him. David came
- 14:13and he played the music. And when he played the music, saw he
- 14:18got peaceful, he got calmed down, and he was able to go to
- 14:22sleep and have peace in his mind. And so a lot of times people
- 14:26are going through things and oh, that's not the Bible. It isn't the
- 14:31Bible. People are suffering and all, and they suffered all different kind of
- 14:35ways. So that's one story of somebody suffering in that mind mentally. The
- 14:43next person is Elijah, and Elijah's First King's chapter nineteen and in First King's
- 14:52Chapter nineteen, verse four, and said, but he himself went a day's
- 14:56journey until the wilderness, and came and sat down under the juniper tree.
- 15:01And he requested for himself that he might die, and say, it is
- 15:05enough now, old Lord, take away my life, for I am not
- 15:09better than my father's. And as he laid and slept under the juniper tree,
- 15:16behold, then an angel touched him and said to him, a rise
- 15:20and eat. What happened to this powerful man? This was a man who
- 15:26went against a whole bunch of prophets and won the battle. He said,
- 15:31if your gods is so real, tell them to, you know, do
- 15:35something. And it was calling on these different idols for nothing. Came down
- 15:41and he waited, and so they looked at him. He said, okay,
- 15:43now I'm about to call my guy. And when he called his God
- 15:46fired from heaven, came down and burnt all those false prophets up. Now
- 15:52he won this battle. But when Jezebel said she was gonna get him,
- 15:56fairy came. And sometimes it don't matter how big time you are, how
- 16:03famous you are, it doesn't matter who you are. Your man, your
- 16:07mind will forget that you are on the Lord, say, your man will
- 16:11forget the all the victories you have won. And when you face was something
- 16:18you'll forget. And he forgot. How do that? He had victory over
- 16:23and over again. This was a man who could go outside and tell the
- 16:26whether to change. All he had to do was speak it. But he
- 16:30ran because fear came. And when fear came, depression came. And so
- 16:37when they said the pressious not in the Bible it is, he said,
- 16:40just let me die. Depression came over him because he didn't want to live
- 16:45no more. You know, his sadness came. He thought he was the
- 16:49only one out here. God said, you're not the only one out here,
- 16:53honllelujah. So God has to come for us and give us strength,
- 17:00hallelujah. And so there was another story in the Gospels where this man had
- 17:08a son that had a lunatic spirit, where he would cut himself and throw
- 17:15himself down and just do stuff like what did you doing? But God said,
- 17:21in order for these things to come out, hallelujah, you have to
- 17:26and this in Matthew chapter seventeen, verse fifteen, he said, in order
- 17:33for these things to come out, you have to pray and fasts. And
- 17:37a lot of people said that might just that's just too simple, that's just
- 17:41too simple. But let me tell you, you're looking at a person who
- 17:44when I was married to my first husband, he will play my games and
- 17:49go around and say this and that and do things and then come home and
- 17:55do something different. And when I was trying to explain to people what was
- 18:00on, they was like, girl, by, he's not doing that.
- 18:03And then it was hard trying to explain the evil when people love this person.
- 18:10So here I am. Depression came and so I went to my pastor.
- 18:15And you know, growing up in the Black Church, they tell you
- 18:18all the time you've been I go to no cancelor. You better not do
- 18:22this. You better trust God and let it go. Okay, what if
- 18:30you can't let it go, what if it's just too much pressure? And
- 18:33so I went to my pastor and I said, look right now, I
- 18:38got these three little babies, because my children was real little. I said,
- 18:41I got these three little babies, and all I see is myself driving
- 18:45off the cliff. Now I need some help. He said, you you
- 18:49want to drop out? I said, I want to drive out the cliff.
- 18:52That's where I'm at because I'm tired. Sometimes you can get bum bored.
- 18:56Were all different kind of stuff, and all people will say is girl,
- 19:00are you gonna be all right? All you gotta do is pray?
- 19:04All yeah, But what if you need more than that? Hallelujah? So
- 19:10sometimes you need more than that, and people will throw you off because they
- 19:14don't want to be bothered. They'll throw you off and push you to the
- 19:17side. And so I had to pray, and I said, you know
- 19:19what I'm gonna do. What this Bible say, I am going too fast?
- 19:23And so I start faster because that depression boar, it's something. And
- 19:33depressure will make you self sabotage yourself to the point h you'll have days you
- 19:38know, you look at people and they said, well, why the house
- 19:41look the way they look because they depressed. Because a depressed person is not
- 19:45gonna wash up. They're not gonna do their hair, they're not gonna clean
- 19:51up, they're not gonna do jack. And you better hope they pay their
- 19:55brand. You better hope they pay their bills, because when a person is
- 20:02in a deep impression, they let everything go because nothing matters no more.
- 20:06Because when your man is gone, is gone, and you don't care about
- 20:11who said this. You know, when you asking for help and you can't
- 20:15get the help you need, you let things go. So I've been through
- 20:21all that when it comes to mental health and all that stuff, I've been
- 20:25through all that. I even had a cousin that was sixteen years old.
- 20:29We was looking for her and she went to a cancer. But what she
- 20:34did was she took her life. She couldn't take it no more, especially
- 20:42what she and she took it like December twenty nineteen, right before the shutdown,
- 20:51you know, and it's like wow, So we have to learn how
- 20:56to reach people and quick kicking people to the side and tell him it's gonna
- 21:00be all right. We have to stop doing that. And the question said,
- 21:06if you please, can you go through Moses? Through Moses goal different
- 21:11kind of stuff going on. You gotta be very pacific because he had to
- 21:17face a lot. He had to runfle his life. He had to and
- 21:22people pick on him talk and when he was trying to talk to people,
- 21:26um, they didn't want to listen. They thought it was he was just
- 21:29a man. They didn't believe that God was actually talking to him. And
- 21:33then he got angry and upset because they went against the tip of manners.
- 21:38So, yeah, to tell you know, it's a lot. You gotta
- 21:44be very pacific when it comes to Moses because he had to face a lot.
- 21:56That's right, That's right. We had to meet people where they're at,
- 22:03We sure do, and sometimes in the place where you're willing to be
- 22:11like and talking about what I've been through because I don't want people to have
- 22:17to go through what I've been through, you know, So I oftentimes share
- 22:22and I tell people all the time, you don't have to suffer in silence,
- 22:26you know, I'm I'm working on these these poetry books given individuals an
- 22:32opportunity to share from places where they've they've hurt in silence. You know and
- 22:37and the series it's called Silently Hurting Inside. The first one was finding forgiveness
- 22:45because you had first you got to forgive yourself, forgive yourself, and then
- 22:49forgive all those around you so that you can move wrong. When you find
- 22:53forgiveness in your heart and let some of this stuff go, then I'll these
- 23:00depressions because depression and stuff that that's a spirit. That is a spirit and
- 23:07just like these spirits are jumping to and from that if you don't find,
- 23:11like I've shared in the comment section, some things that you can do to
- 23:15self care when I when we oftentimes talk about self care, and we oftentimes
- 23:21talk about you know, UM doing different things UM to make sure that we
- 23:29are okay? But are we every day? I heard Tavita on one of
- 23:33her shows talk about self checking and how she she did this self check.
- 23:40You know, we should be self checking ourselves every day. We should be
- 23:42looking in the mirror and and and and talking to ourselves, evaluating where we
- 23:48are and writing down different things and seeing how we are today and then going
- 23:53back tomorrow and making sure you know that if if there was an issue on
- 23:57yesterday, that I address that issue and if I can't address it personally,
- 24:03that I've reached out to someone that can help me address that issue. We
- 24:10we gotta we got to learn that we don't have to hurt in silence.
- 24:15Like God has given us people's He's given us psychiatrists, He's given us mental
- 24:21health professionals. He's given us all these people that he has equipped to be
- 24:29able to help us on this journey. He has he paid placed people because
- 24:33he knew that we were gonna need what we was gonna need in our lives.
- 24:37So all these people that are in place, they're in place to help
- 24:40us. They're not in place to just be there for show. Yeah,
- 24:45true enough, we get the word in us. But everything, like I
- 24:48hear a minister Alma say, you can't just slap all on everything and lay
- 24:53hands on everything. Some things. You sometimes you got to go lay down
- 24:57on that couch and you got to be able to get some of this stuff
- 25:00out. You had to be able to talk to somebody to let some of
- 25:03this stuff out, because just holding it in and praying about it, you
- 25:07ain't letting it go. I tell you, you've been telling me for a
- 25:12minute to go and and to finalize my divorce, and and I had been
- 25:22putting it off because I kept looking at that stack of papers, and it
- 25:26was just a whole bunch of papers. And I was just tired of papers
- 25:29and just tied of all kinds of stuff and just school, going to school
- 25:33and working on this magazine and doing all this, and I was just like
- 25:37that, just another stack of papers, and I was just looking at those
- 25:40papers over there. But the other day when I got out that that day
- 25:42when you called me and you told me, you know what I did.
- 25:47My sister came home that day and me and my sister sit down and in
- 25:49that living room, I got my papers back the other day. And sometimes
- 25:55you just got to be obedient. Now, I'll tell you, it seemed
- 25:56like so much was lifted off of me because I was obedient. Sometimes we
- 26:04just got to we got to go through that that that that check it ourselves.
- 26:11We got to check ourselves and then we got the end. We got
- 26:15to really see, okay, taking a walk. We got to do those
- 26:18things that that can help balance some of the things that are all out of
- 26:22whack. Because nine times out of ten, if if we're suffering from different
- 26:29things and suffering something in our body is out of balance, chemically out of
- 26:34balance, and sometimes we may need to get medication to balance it. Sometimes
- 26:41we may need to change our diet to balance it. Sometime we may need
- 26:45to change our environment. But there are resources out there. There's there so
- 26:51much out there that can help us. But I definitely I thank you for
- 26:57those scriptures. I thank you for taking time. I was trying to post
- 27:02on the um those those scriptures that you that you sent me that website so
- 27:07that everybody can go and check it out, because um, there are some
- 27:11scriptures that talk about depression, there's some scriptures that talk about anxiety. There's
- 27:17some scriptures that talk about these things. But I always if if if praying
- 27:23and reading the scriptures it seemed like it's not helping, then you got to
- 27:30reach out to somebody. Know that you can't You don't have to do this
- 27:33by yourself. You don't have to suffer in silence. You don't no longer
- 27:38how to hurt in silence. But again I'll tell you, I'm grateful for
- 27:45all of the individuals that did not think it robbery to to share in these
- 27:49poetry books and to share these anithologies, because some of them have been going
- 27:55through some stuff. I know me, being able to share in that first
- 27:57anithology um um Um soul for metamorphis, I tell you, being able to
- 28:06release that poem when I lost my cousin it helped me. And then going
- 28:11back after that book was published, and being able to read some of those
- 28:15other people's stories, being able to pick up that the short stories and in
- 28:22those portraits and be able to hear how they felt and what they was going
- 28:26through. Even the young lady that was on Patricia's show last night, she
- 28:32talked about why she started writing poetry because sometimes we just got to release some
- 28:37of this stuff that's inside of us. Because once we let some of this
- 28:42stuff go, sometimes we're holding on to hurt. We're holding on to disappointment,
- 28:48we're holding on to let down. We're holding on to this stuff.
- 28:52But when we release it and let it go and free it, then we
- 28:59begin to truly heal. I'm telling you, you got to stop letting Hinderance
- 29:07calls you to have an ego. We have these egos where we don't want
- 29:10to get no, we don't want to get no help, and then we
- 29:15then then those egos caused us to have an attitude, and then we walk
- 29:21around angry at the world. We walk around just moody. But when you
- 29:29allow yourself to stop a letting hinderance, egos and attitudes, you're able to
- 29:34move in love. And that's how you know you are healed. I tell
- 29:41you, when God dropped these words in my spirit and he break them down
- 29:44to me like that, now it allows me to truly get a get a
- 29:51grasp on some things, like I hear the word hell at the time,
- 29:53But when until He dropped it in my spirit like that, I realized that,
- 29:57hey, I was walking around him what a ego problem myself with an
- 30:02attitude? Why? Because I was holding on to stuff. I was allowing
- 30:07stuff to hinder me from progressing and moving in love. So tonight I challenge
- 30:12you allow yourself to heal. Stop allowing hinderance. That's the h Stop allowing
- 30:21that ego that you have built up. You built that ego up because you
- 30:26didn't want to let go, and that ego calls you to have an attitude.
- 30:30So you walk around mad at the world. You walk around having moved
- 30:34swings which keep you imbalanced and out of balancet. Allow your body to align
- 30:42so that you can move in love, so that he can take you to
- 30:45the next level so that you can be that leader that he's called you to
- 30:49be. I'm done, Apostle, I'm done. I'm done anything anything else
- 30:59you want to share said We were gonna be old here, but thirty mininess,
- 31:00it's we're thirty one minutes in, so we getting ready to close this
- 31:04thing on. I want to thank everybody that tune in, but a possible
- 31:07if you have something else that you would like to share before we close out
- 31:11the floor is yours. I just want to make sure that you heard her
- 31:15when she said, you gotta learn how to forgive. You gotta forgive yourself,
- 31:19and you gotta forgive all those who have hurt you, because not that
- 31:23sickness. Your body talks to you. Your body say you know what,
- 31:29You didn't let that go, and then stress comes and you get sick.
- 31:33And that's why people are having heart attesting strokes and they're getting sick and all
- 31:37weird kind of conditions is coming on your body because your body is screaming at
- 31:41you. So we gotta learn how to let things go and let God fix
- 31:47it. Let him fix it, and get out of his way. Like
- 31:51Travida said, stay out of God's business. Yeah, but I think you
- 32:05stepping in with me on tonight. I think those that have tuned in and
