Transcript
- 0:00I'm Sammy Pierre Duat. I play guitar for a band called gold War and
- 0:04we'll be coming to Australia very soon. But our good friends and I god
- 0:07with the I think it's called Turn the Trouble Tables tour it Yeah, so
- 0:14yeah, there we go, beautiful say thanks for joining us today, brother,
- 0:18yeah, man, so as you say, Goat Hall will hit Australia
- 0:23soon for a run of dates though I hate God, starting in Perth on
- 0:26July the twenty third, then going to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney before finishing
- 0:30in Brisbane on July twenty eighth. It's not long ago, now, mate.
- 0:34Are you packed and ready to go? Are you that sort of person?
- 0:37Ah? No, I usually pack at the last fucking minute. After
- 0:45all your years of traveled in touring, bro, Like, what what have
- 0:48you figured out that are essential items to take with you on tour that you
- 0:52probably wouldn't take anywhere else? Oh? Man, that's a very good question.
- 1:00I don't know that's a good question cause I normally forget it's something at
- 1:06a very it's very important. So yeah, the ship that I would take
- 1:12that I normally wouldn't take anywhere else, probably way too much underwear. You
- 1:19can never have too much. I know it now. I hope my research
- 1:26is practice right from what I can see. Your last visit to Australia was
- 1:30with like Crop Kick in twenty fifteen. Is that right? That's right,
- 1:34Yes, it is. Yeah. So what's changed with our guide hole between
- 1:41then and now? Oh, we put out a couple of records. That's
- 1:45changed. Uh, not much else. I got a lot more gray in
- 1:49my beard now the last time I was in Australia. So it's about it,
- 1:53man. Yeah, what do you like so much about throwing Australia?
- 1:57Is there anything special about the place? I just, for some reason,
- 2:00I just like the people there, man, I could just relate to them,
- 2:04I guess. You know, being from Louisiana, we're definitely a different
- 2:08type of folk than you would find like in California or in New York,
- 2:12you know what I'm saying. And I think, you know, the type
- 2:15of people that we are have a lot of common to the way that people
- 2:19are in Australia, you know. So I think you know, we we
- 2:23we share the same mind frame sort of speak, you know, in a
- 2:25way. Yeah, well I'm taking that up already, brother, So for
- 2:32those out of here that might not have seen a whole live shight before,
- 2:37give us a rundown on what do expect? Lots of loud and satanic heavy
- 2:43metal? Oh yeah, how involved? Do you like your crowd to get
- 2:47in your size might like you do you wanted me to get down and get
- 2:51dirty with you? Do you like them to sit there and watch this sing
- 2:53along? What's what's your idea? Crowd? Like? I like them to
- 2:58do whatever they feel like doing, and they feel like getting wild and getting
- 3:01crazy, Get wild and crazy. If you feel like sitting back and watching
- 3:05and just observing, that's cool too, man. Yeah, just when whatever,
- 3:09whenever Satan, whenever Satan takes hold of your soul and makes you want
- 3:14to do do it? Well, you've probably been out this fussing a thousand
- 3:19times before, my admit, I think you would have been asked by someone
- 3:22who's got an actual genuine interest in it, like I have my life.
- 3:25I've got a night where the night guith come from? Like we is getting
- 3:30frisky in the paddick one day? Did you read their own book? It's
- 3:35a combination of those things. Actually, Well, you know we as you.
- 3:42I love You're familiar with a lot of the material that we mess with
- 3:45the goadhoard. It's very occult base, you know. So we're reading a
- 3:49lot of a lot of Alves to Crowley stuff at a point and we came
- 3:57across this ritual that's not really it's not only a popularized ritual, but it's
- 4:03one that's kind of if you know the right people, they can get you
- 4:06the right information type ritual. And it involved a woman with a lot of
- 4:14men having a lot of sex, and at the end of the ritual,
- 4:18the woman had to have sex with a goat, so hence she was a
- 4:25goat. And what really nailed the name into the coffin was we were at
- 4:30a strip club with a very wild friend of ours and at the time we
- 4:34were kicking around the name. We're like, ah, we should we name
- 4:39the van goat war, shouldn't we? So we're hanging out with our friend
- 4:42and we were at a strip club and the stripper comes out. She was
- 4:46not a very attractive looking stripper. She had a long horse face, she
- 4:50had the pigtails, and she comes up and she starts shaking her ass in
- 4:55front of my friend trying to get some money, and he it looks at
- 5:00her and goes, don't you just get away from me? You goat whore?
- 5:03And from then on I was like, that is definitely the name.
- 5:08Yes, Ben, I'm glad the story lived up to what I had in
- 5:12my imagination. Mate, that's perfect. Coming back in instagramit broan like you
- 5:18found it got all back in nineteen ninety seven, right, So what's the
- 5:21musical climate liked that gave birth to the band? And and wait, where
- 5:25did you fit in in the s game of music? Well, you know,
- 5:30the climate back then it was pretty good. You know, there wasn't
- 5:31a whole lot of bands at the time doing what we do. You know,
- 5:36at the time, I want to remember, it was a very it
- 5:42was a more of a death metal dominated scene back then, you know.
- 5:46And when we started doing this is that you know, that's when the whole
- 5:49black metal thing slowly started creeping in. Yeah. So at the time we
- 5:57were just doing we were just trying to be as intent, which is possible
- 6:00with what we had, you know, And yeah, that was it,
- 6:06you know, the musical climate was you know, we came out and a
- 6:09lot of people didn't understand it at first, you know, as of course
- 6:12you know, and and that period of time, there wasn't a lot of
- 6:15American black metal bands, you know, so that was another thing that kind
- 6:19of confused a lot of people, you know, because you know, of
- 6:24course the Norwegians, well actually, yeah, the Norwegians kind of dominated it.
- 6:29You know, I'm not saying it started in Norway, but the Norwegian
- 6:32black metal scene kind of dominated the whole thing. But that's basically what happened.
- 6:39You know. We just we were real big fans of that kind of
- 6:42stuff, and we figur and why not you know, Yeah, now I'm
- 6:47I fucking height putting labels on bands night, But that's essentially you guys are
- 6:53an extreme metal band, but you in fearse, elements of death metal,
- 6:56there's black metal, thrash, sludge. It all comes into devastating of it
- 7:00might have been. How difficult is it fe to bring all the ice together
- 7:02to create the guide whole sound? Like? Is it? Is it a
- 7:05hard altamation? Not? Really? It kind of comes naturally because you know,
- 7:12we we like all those genres of music, you know, we that's
- 7:15why we take influences. And it's not like we purposely try to do it.
- 7:19It just happens you know our you know, our model is when we're
- 7:25writing music is whatever sounds good, use it, you know, no matter
- 7:29what type of extreme metal it is, you know where I know at first,
- 7:33you know, the first couple of records were very black metal influence,
- 7:39but you know, the later records as we went on, we just kind
- 7:43of were like, let's just write what feels right, you know. Cool.
- 7:49Now you got to be in the band for over twenty five years,
- 7:51now, Maden, what's the best way to put this? Like the world
- 7:56is increasingly becoming more sanitized, and it's just you can can't do this.
- 8:01You can't do that for fear of offending people all that shit. But how
- 8:03do you guys go with your music as the world gets more sanitized? Do
- 8:07you find that that people are expecting you to tone down to or do you
- 8:13expect you to change thanks your approach? No, if anything will get more
- 8:18abrazen, you know, that's that's that's always been our the number one gold
- 8:24you know, I mean, we don't really worry about, you know,
- 8:28quote being canceled for whatever reason. You know, if somebody gets mad because
- 8:33of the name offends them, good, that's why we name the band that
- 8:39would to offend you, you know, go fuck yourself fucking love it.
- 8:45And your last album of Our Angels, Hung from the Arches of Heaven,
- 8:48came out in twenty twenty two. Mates, So have you started working on
- 8:50new material yet? Oh yeah, oh yes, yes, we're We're way
- 8:54deep into that right now. Yes, absolutely. What can you tell us
- 8:58about mat Can you reveal it anything? Or is it in the top safer
- 9:01shelf? And it's still in the infantile stages so I hate to give the
- 9:07cat, you know, get let the cat out of the bag before the
- 9:09cat's even born, you know what I'm saying. Any chance you'll have anything
- 9:16new, any of the new ones to play for us when you get over
- 9:18here, Oh no, no, no, being that we've you know,
- 9:22being that we haven't been there since twenty fifteen. You know, we're two
- 9:24albums behind you, guys, so we got to we have to catch you
- 9:28guys up with those last two records live, you know what I mean.
- 9:31Yeah, I'll give you that, mate. I won't push any further,
- 9:37all right, Samuel, thanks for your time, right't being a pleasure speaking
- 9:39with your goat or in Australia with I Hate God. From July twenty third
- 9:43for shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Still a
- 9:46few tickets left, I believe, so very so final or miss the fuck
- 9:50out. Yeah, we're coming. We're coming. You know where we're gonna
- 9:54be. Motherfuckers, come see us
