Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello everyone, and welcome into another episode of to check
- 0:11Speaker 1: O Daily Andrew to check O Eagles beat reporter for
- 0:13Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot Com. The Eagles have a closed walkthrough on
- 0:17Speaker 1: Thursday and they're back on the practice field on Friday,
- 0:20Speaker 1: So this gives us a chance to take stock no
- 0:23Speaker 1: pun intended, as to what I've observed during the first
- 0:28Speaker 1: six training camp practices. And we're gonna do a stock
- 0:31Speaker 1: up stock down, and we'll start with the stock up
- 0:35Speaker 1: players and there are several, but we'll start at running
- 0:40Speaker 1: back with Tank Bigsby. And Tank Bigsby is someone who
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've talked a lot about as someone who brings a
- 0:46Speaker 1: lot of juice and energy to practice.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Every opportunity that he has, he really seizes it.
- 0:52Speaker 1: He has home run hitting ability, and every time that
- 0:54Speaker 1: he's gotten his opportunities, good things seem to happen. He's
- 0:58Speaker 1: also caught the ball a little bit better than I
- 1:00Speaker 1: thought that he would have, and maybe that's something that
- 1:04Speaker 1: becomes a facet of the offense under Sean Mannion. But
- 1:08Speaker 1: I think one thing that's been abundantly clear through the
- 1:11Speaker 1: first six practices, it's that Tank Bigsby needs to have a.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Clearly defined role on offense.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I don't know that he's someone that you could sporadically
- 1:20Speaker 1: work in. He has too much talent to keep him
- 1:23Speaker 1: on the sideline. He can add a different dimension to
- 1:26Speaker 1: the offense and I saw it late last season and
- 1:29Speaker 1: it's been really apparent now in the early stages of
- 1:32Speaker 1: training camp. Another player would be wide receiver Dantavian Wicks.
- 1:39Speaker 1: A lot is expected of Dantavian Wicks. Of course, he
- 1:42Speaker 1: was traded for by the Eagles in April and signed
- 1:46Speaker 1: a one year, twelve million dollar extension. But he was
- 1:49Speaker 1: sort of a mystery player right because in Green Bay
- 1:51Speaker 1: he was buried on a very deep receiving cores. He's
- 1:54Speaker 1: never had more than thirty nine catches in a season,
- 1:56Speaker 1: never had more than seventy some odd targets in a year.
- 2:00Speaker 2: So all you had to go off of.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Was the glimpses that you saw in Green Bay. And
- 2:05Speaker 1: there have been some really positive glimpses, whether it's Malik
- 2:09Speaker 1: Willis or Jordan Love finding him in critical moments and
- 2:13Speaker 1: things like that. You like his body type. He just
- 2:16Speaker 1: has to clean up the drops.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Well.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Fast forward now into training camp and currently he's the
- 2:23Speaker 1: last man standing of the Eagles' top three wide receivers,
- 2:26Speaker 1: DeVante Smith McKay lemon have been sidelined with hamstring injuries.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We'll see how that all transpires. But Dantavian Wicks has
- 2:33Speaker 1: really developed a nice rapport with Jaywen Hurts, and you
- 2:38Speaker 1: can see it manifest on the timing throws, especially on
- 2:42Speaker 1: some of these out routes where Jaywen Hurts is putting
- 2:45Speaker 1: it in a place Wherewie Dantavian Wicks can catch it.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Don Tavian Wicks is at the right place at the
- 2:49Speaker 1: right time, does a nice job. It's separating at the
- 2:52Speaker 1: top of routes and freeing himself and making himself available
- 2:56Speaker 1: to his quarterback. But when you continuously deliver on your
- 2:59Speaker 1: oppertun tunities, you're.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Going to get more of them.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And I think Don tav and Wicks is sort of
- 3:05Speaker 1: settling into his role here in Philadelphia and he's made
- 3:09Speaker 1: and a number of big time plays. He brings some
- 3:11Speaker 1: juice and energy, kind of like Tank Bigsby, but in
- 3:14Speaker 1: it a little bit of a different way. Jay When
- 3:16Speaker 1: Hurts talked about how he likes the aggressiveness that he brings,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the little bit of rage, but he mentioned that it's
- 3:22Speaker 1: in the best way possible. That's very evident when you
- 3:26Speaker 1: watch Wix in practice. He gets after it. He is
- 3:30Speaker 1: someone that plays a little bit with an edge. Not
- 3:32Speaker 1: saying that he's blocking players into the ground or anything
- 3:37Speaker 1: like that, but you can see that he plays the
- 3:38Speaker 1: game with a chip on his shoulder keeping with the
- 3:41Speaker 1: wide receiver position. Darius Cooper also needs to be mentioned here.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And Darius is someone who and I wrote about this
- 3:49Speaker 1: on Inside the Birds dot com. He approaches every practice
- 3:54Speaker 1: with a business like mentality. He doesn't feel like he's arrived.
- 3:58Speaker 1: He's not complacent, and he understands that it's a business
- 4:01Speaker 1: and he has to prove himself every day. He mentioned
- 4:04Speaker 1: that the chip on his shoulder is still very much there.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But what I notice is that when he does get targets,
- 4:11Speaker 1: he not only makes the catch, sometimes he makes the
- 4:14Speaker 1: difficult look routine. And when you continue to stack those
- 4:18Speaker 1: days and you continue to come up with those kind
- 4:20Speaker 1: of plays, naturally you're going to find yourself into the
- 4:24Speaker 1: conversation where you remove yourself from the bubble and all
- 4:28Speaker 1: of a sudden you become someone who has a really
- 4:31Speaker 1: strong chance of making the roster. He can do whatever
- 4:34Speaker 1: he's asked of him, whether it's blocking and doing the
- 4:36Speaker 1: dirty work or coming up with some of those receptions
- 4:40Speaker 1: in traffic, which he's done. He's made some highlight real catches,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and it's important to keep everything in a perspective here
- 4:46Speaker 1: because there's a number of players ahead of him. So
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm not sitting here suggesting that he's going to have
- 4:52Speaker 1: a thirty five forty catch season. There's only one football
- 4:56Speaker 1: and there's not a lot of opportunities. But what he
- 4:58Speaker 1: can provide is consistency and when the ball does come
- 5:02Speaker 1: his way, he's going to catch it. And you need
- 5:04Speaker 1: players that can do that grimy work that doesn't showcase
- 5:08Speaker 1: itself in the box score, but it's hugely important to
- 5:12Speaker 1: the overall success of the team, and Darius Cooper is
- 5:15Speaker 1: willing to do whatever it takes for the betterment of
- 5:18Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles. He's had a nice start to training camp.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Two young offensive linemen deserve a mention here. We'll start
- 5:26Speaker 1: with second year offensive lineman Drew Kendall, who has had
- 5:30Speaker 1: a really nice training camp. He is a center by trade,
- 5:34Speaker 1: he knows how to play that there's a reason why
- 5:38Speaker 1: the Eagles are using him at guard and they're cross
- 5:41Speaker 1: training him because he's preparing to become the top interior backup,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and he put on some size. When Landon Dickerson had
- 5:50Speaker 1: a rest day on Wednesday, it was Drew Kendall stepping
- 5:52Speaker 1: in at left guard. He's played some right guard as well,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and he holds his own And I also believe that
- 5:57Speaker 1: his body type and skill set lens itself to this
- 6:01Speaker 1: system because you don't necessarily have to be the throwback
- 6:06Speaker 1: type of Larry Allen type of maler. You need to
- 6:09Speaker 1: be able to have athleticism and versatility, and he certainly
- 6:13Speaker 1: has that. These first team reps that he's gotten over
- 6:16Speaker 1: the past few days or so, they've been more sporadic
- 6:20Speaker 1: in other days. Yesterday he was the left guard with
- 6:24Speaker 1: the first team. It's invaluable to his growth and development.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And for someone who is going to be fulfilling the
- 6:31Speaker 1: Brett Toath role, any experience you can get at playing
- 6:34Speaker 1: guard right now is going to be.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Critical to his success.
- 6:38Speaker 1: He does how to play center now, it's all about
- 6:40Speaker 1: mastering the center position. And really I go back to
- 6:43Speaker 1: a conversation that we all had when we spoke to
- 6:46Speaker 1: Chris Cooper in the spring, and he sort of intimated
- 6:49Speaker 1: that he was going to prioritize cross training with offensive linemen,
- 6:53Speaker 1: So not really a surprise there.
- 6:55Speaker 2: MARKL.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Bell, the rookie tackle out of Miami's another player who
- 6:59Speaker 1: should be mentioned because it was sort of expected because
- 7:04Speaker 1: Fred Johnson has started a lot of games for the
- 7:07Speaker 1: Eagles and he can play left or right tackle. They
- 7:09Speaker 1: re signed him and he's widely viewed as one of
- 7:13Speaker 1: the better backup tackles in football. It just was expected
- 7:17Speaker 1: that he would step in and be the automatic replacement
- 7:20Speaker 1: whenever Lane or Jordan needed a breather or an injury arised,
- 7:23Speaker 1: or whatever the case was. But the past couple of days,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Markel Bell has been taking the all of the first
- 7:30Speaker 1: team reps at right tackle, so if you're connecting the dots,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you can presume that he's picking things up quickly. Offensive
- 7:38Speaker 1: line coach Chris Cooper is pleased with what he's seeing.
- 7:41Speaker 1: There's clearly more upside there, and it's become an interesting
- 7:46Speaker 1: conversation now because if you're Fred Johnson and you signed
- 7:51Speaker 1: here believing that you were going to be the swing
- 7:53Speaker 1: tackle and he very well, maybe we're way early in this.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I wonder how that affects your approach or if that's
- 8:02Speaker 1: in the back.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Of your mind. I don't know that.
- 8:04Speaker 1: We haven't talked to Fred yet, but it is something
- 8:07Speaker 1: that when you look at a young player like Markel
- 8:09Speaker 1: Bell seemingly make these early strides, it definitely validates the
- 8:15Speaker 1: Eagles interest to him in the pre draft process, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think it really speaks to the coaching and his
- 8:21Speaker 1: ability to take to the coaching early on. So Markel
- 8:24Speaker 1: Bell should absolutely be a stock up candidate and he is.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Jlyx Hunt, the Eagles third year edge rusher, has been
- 8:35Speaker 1: one of the standout performers of training camp and the
- 8:39Speaker 1: first step quickness that he has, it's the understanding of
- 8:42Speaker 1: how to better attack offensive tackles and combat them when
- 8:46Speaker 1: they throw something his way. Where maybe earlier in his
- 8:49Speaker 1: career he was getting by on pure athleticism and learning
- 8:53Speaker 1: on the fly, he seems to have more refinement in
- 8:56Speaker 1: his overall technique and how he goes about acting tackles,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and he's now letting his anticipation and natural instincts take over.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He's been a game wrecker on many of practices and
- 9:09Speaker 1: I think that's sort of a sign of things to come.
- 9:11Speaker 1: He's my twenty twenty six breakup player on the defensive side.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I've been on the jay loox Hunt train, if you will,
- 9:19Speaker 1: really since the pre draft process, going into the twenty
- 9:22Speaker 1: twenty four draft. Actually, I remembered getting the information that
- 9:28Speaker 1: he was taking a pre draft visit to Philadelphia, and
- 9:32Speaker 1: it seemed to me that there was a lot of interest,
- 9:35Speaker 1: though I don't know that it was expected that he
- 9:37Speaker 1: would take to the position as quickly as he has
- 9:40Speaker 1: and as effectively as he has. But right now, either
- 9:44Speaker 1: I mean j loox Hunt, you'd be hard pressed to
- 9:46Speaker 1: find another candidate. There's a couple of others, but he's
- 9:50Speaker 1: certainly up there when you're looking at some of this
- 9:52Speaker 1: true standout performers on a day in, day out basis
- 9:56Speaker 1: through six training camp practices. Jalen Carter is another player
- 10:00Speaker 1: who continues to thrive.
- 10:02Speaker 2: He looks to be in better shape. You see the.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Athleticism, the movement ability, whereas maybe last summer he didn't
- 10:10Speaker 1: come into camp in great shape. Icvangio told us that,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and it was also kind of evident when you watch
- 10:15Speaker 1: him out there he didn't look to be in great
- 10:17Speaker 1: shape last summer. Well, it's a stark contrast this time around,
- 10:21Speaker 1: where he's just affecting the play on almost every snap,
- 10:25Speaker 1: he's getting interior penetration, he's stopping running backs on short completions,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and I feel like he's setting himself up to have
- 10:35Speaker 1: one of his better seasons to date. And I think
- 10:37Speaker 1: there's no coincidence that it happens to also coincide with
- 10:41Speaker 1: going into training camp in better shape. And look, the
- 10:46Speaker 1: contract here is something that's going to be talked about.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But I really do believe that while Jalen Carter needed
- 10:52Speaker 1: to make some strides in terms of overall maturity and
- 10:56Speaker 1: things like that, he's well aware at this stage about
- 10:59Speaker 1: how important he is to the success of the philadelph Vehicles,
- 11:02Speaker 1: how critical he is as a centerpiece for this defense,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and he knows.
- 11:06Speaker 2: The ability that he has.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I have a hard time imagining that he's satisfied with
- 11:10Speaker 1: the season he had last year and he's gonna want
- 11:12Speaker 1: to go out this year and really try to remind
- 11:15Speaker 1: everyone that he's still an elite talent and one of
- 11:18Speaker 1: the best players at his position, and he certainly performed
- 11:20Speaker 1: that way in the early goings of training camp. Jeremiah
- 11:24Speaker 1: Trotter Junior, the third year linebacker, is another player that
- 11:29Speaker 1: I had to make sure I put on this list, because.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Game day is stressful enough.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Parking, traffic, long lines, We've all been there, but when
- 11:39Speaker 3: it comes to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy.
- 11:44Speaker 3: This is the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside
- 11:48Speaker 3: of Philly, with plenty of free parking. You'll be in
- 11:51Speaker 3: and out fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't
- 11:54Speaker 3: just care about convenience. Camden Apothecary is all about the
- 11:58Speaker 3: guest experience. Make sure you feel taken care of every
- 12:03Speaker 3: time you walk in. Plus, they carry only the best
- 12:06Speaker 3: quality cannabis at the fairest prices, so whether you're stocking
- 12:10Speaker 3: up for the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a
- 12:13Speaker 3: big win, you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying.
- 12:17Speaker 3: They even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 12:22Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros canned in Apothecary. Top quality cannabis,
- 12:28Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 12:31Speaker 3: one and up.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Every day he continues to make a play, and he's
- 12:37Speaker 1: a really instinctual player, someone who always finds himself in
- 12:41Speaker 1: the right place.
- 12:41Speaker 2: At the right time. He's assignment sound, and he's.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Able to do all of this without having that prototypical athleticism,
- 12:48Speaker 1: that supercharged twitchiness, the sideline of sideline range that maybe
- 12:53Speaker 1: if you look at Jehad Campbell you see two totally
- 12:59Speaker 1: different players with totally different skill sets.
- 13:01Speaker 2: But when Trotter Junior has been.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Moonlighting with the first team, he's delivered. And that goes
- 13:09Speaker 1: back to last summer as well. He's been an effective
- 13:12Speaker 1: presence against the run. He's made some plays in coverage,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and he is just a very sharp minded football player
- 13:19Speaker 1: and one who I believe checks off a ton of
- 13:21Speaker 1: boxes for what Vic Vangio has traditionally looked for in
- 13:25Speaker 1: a linebacker, maybe apart from size. But Trotter Junior again
- 13:31Speaker 1: having a nice training camp. Drew mccuba will close things
- 13:35Speaker 1: off with the stock ups with Drew mccuba because mcuba
- 13:40Speaker 1: this is a big year for him, needless to say,
- 13:43Speaker 1: he's stepping into the top spot in the safety room.
- 13:46Speaker 1: And he always started ten games. Last year he played
- 13:49Speaker 1: in eleven, had the fractured ankle that deprived them of
- 13:52Speaker 1: the backstretch of his rookie campaign. But what I've seen
- 13:56Speaker 1: through six training camp practices. Is a player who is
- 14:00Speaker 1: obviously very fluid and rangy, but he's playing with more confidence.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And that's something that I've said that I believed from
- 14:07Speaker 1: just from watching him. But it was nice to hear
- 14:09Speaker 1: Vic Fangio sort of co sign that when he spoke
- 14:12Speaker 1: about Macuba on Wednesday, talking about how he just seems
- 14:16Speaker 1: to be, you know, everything's sort of sped up a
- 14:19Speaker 1: little bit with him. He's able to play faster with
- 14:22Speaker 1: more confidence, and that happens when you have more time
- 14:26Speaker 1: on task, you have more reps and things like that.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But this is a player that the only question that
- 14:32Speaker 2: you might have.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Is his size, because he plays the game so physically
- 14:36Speaker 1: and throws his body around that you wonder about how
- 14:39Speaker 1: that will play out over the full complement of games
- 14:43Speaker 1: in an NFL season. But I can tell you from
- 14:45Speaker 1: a skill set standpoint, from a football intellect standpoint, and
- 14:48Speaker 1: from a natural progression perspective, Drew mccuba is right where.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You would hope he would be. If you're the photoph Eagles,
- 14:55Speaker 2: I would have.
- 14:56Speaker 1: To imagine he's made plays that probably that aren't necessarily
- 15:01Speaker 1: going to be they're not manifesting in interceptions, but he's
- 15:06Speaker 1: in coverage and just swarming to the football, reactive type
- 15:10Speaker 1: of plays, and he's just has a really good feel
- 15:13Speaker 1: for his role within the defense, and he seems to
- 15:16Speaker 1: be becoming more comfortable as a communicator on the back
- 15:20Speaker 1: end as well.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Now for the stock downs, because there are a.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Number of them, maybe not as many as the stock
- 15:28Speaker 1: ups in this case, but we'll start with two rookies,
- 15:32Speaker 1: wide receiver mckaye Lemon and tight end Eli Stowers. This
- 15:37Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily have to do with performance for MacKaye Lemon.
- 15:40Speaker 2: It has to do with availability.
- 15:42Speaker 1: He had the hamstring injury that wiped out his spring.
- 15:46Speaker 1: He had six weeks to recover get into training camp,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and he was there from the first day of training camp.
- 15:52Speaker 1: But then on Monday, when we were inside the practice bubble,
- 15:55Speaker 1: he participated in individuals, but he was not participating in
- 16:00Speaker 1: team drills and we just didn't see him. The following
- 16:04Speaker 1: day we learned that it's a hamstring injury. Now there's
- 16:07Speaker 1: varying degrees of that, and I'm not going to sit
- 16:09Speaker 1: here and speculate and tell you, you know, the severity of
- 16:15Speaker 1: it or anything like that. It's believed not to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: a long term issue, which is obviously positive news for
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Eagles, but not getting those reps and that time
- 16:27Speaker 1: on task on the field when you're a rookie and
- 16:30Speaker 1: it's an offense in which there's a lot of details
- 16:34Speaker 1: and intricacies that are entailed with the wide receiver position
- 16:37Speaker 1: and their role within this whole offense. This is critical
- 16:41Speaker 1: time that he's missing. And needless to say, you're not
- 16:45Speaker 1: going to rush a player back with a soft tissue
- 16:47Speaker 1: injury like that. You want to make sure that you
- 16:49Speaker 1: get them to the starting line, which is September thirteenth
- 16:52Speaker 1: when the Eagles play the Commanders. But to not be
- 16:55Speaker 1: out there naturally, you're going to get the sense that
- 16:59Speaker 1: he's going to fall behind a little bit, and players
- 17:02Speaker 1: like don Tavian Wicks and maybe some other players that
- 17:05Speaker 1: are getting these opportunities are going to be better positioned
- 17:08Speaker 1: to help the Eagles in the immediacy, meaning week one,
- 17:11Speaker 1: maybe week two and things like that. We're not going
- 17:13Speaker 1: to get ahead of ourselves here, but he's a stock
- 17:16Speaker 1: down because he's missing valuable time and opportunities to establish
- 17:23Speaker 1: chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So mackay Lemon's on this list, and so is.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Eli Stowers, who clearly is a work in progress, and
- 17:32Speaker 1: he's more of a developmental prospect, as it has sort
- 17:36Speaker 1: of revealed each and every practice. He's probably gonna have
- 17:39Speaker 1: to fly to fill out his frame a little bit more.
- 17:43Speaker 1: But I like the way he moves when passes have
- 17:47Speaker 1: come his way, and they've been very infrequent, to be clear,
- 17:51Speaker 1: he's pretty much caught them. There is a couple plays
- 17:54Speaker 1: that he had that I can remember, and the reason
- 17:56Speaker 1: why I can remember this is because he hasn't had
- 17:58Speaker 1: a lot of targets in camp.
- 18:00Speaker 2: He hasn't gotten a ton of reps.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But there's a couple plays where mac McWilliams was able
- 18:05Speaker 1: to get him over the middle and break up a
- 18:08Speaker 1: couple passes on really consecutive plays, if I'm remembering this correctly.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So you'd like to see Stours be able to take
- 18:15Speaker 1: the football away from a smaller defensive back. But it's
- 18:18Speaker 1: all part of the growing process here for young players.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I say this every year, but I feel it needs
- 18:24Speaker 1: reiterating right now. Every player progresses at different rates. There's
- 18:28Speaker 1: never any cause for concern here. It's way too early.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You're not going to sound the alarms, but I'm here
- 18:34Speaker 1: to tell you what I've observed and what I've observed
- 18:37Speaker 1: as a player who probably still needs some more seasoning
- 18:40Speaker 1: before he's able to help the Eagles in a really
- 18:42Speaker 1: meaningful way as a rookie. That's not to say that
- 18:45Speaker 1: he won't have a role offensively, because when you have
- 18:47Speaker 1: someone with that skill set, with that movement ability and
- 18:51Speaker 1: you can move him around formations, yeah, you want to
- 18:53Speaker 1: find a way to get him on the field. But
- 18:57Speaker 1: just temper expectations a little bit and make sure that
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're not sounding the alarms because it's way it's way
- 19:04Speaker 1: too early in the game for that. But McKay lemon
- 19:07Speaker 1: and Eli Stowers are on this list, so is Fred Johnson.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And it kind of goes back to a little bit
- 19:14Speaker 1: of what I was talking about earlier, and that Fred Johnson.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I mean, he's played a lot of football, He started
- 19:21Speaker 1: a lot of games for this team. To not get
- 19:25Speaker 1: for the first team reps at right tackle in the
- 19:27Speaker 1: absence of Lane Johnson the past two practices for a rookie,
- 19:32Speaker 1: that has to put you in the stock down category
- 19:35Speaker 1: for whatever reason, he's not getting those reps. And right
- 19:38Speaker 1: now it's been about Mark Kelbell and his development clearly
- 19:42Speaker 1: he's showcasing something that gives Chris Cooper the confidence and
- 19:48Speaker 1: really the interest in putting him in there with the
- 19:52Speaker 1: first team to see what he can do and give
- 19:54Speaker 1: him those valuable learning experiences to grow from. You can
- 19:58Speaker 1: go back to the drawing board and point things out
- 20:00Speaker 1: about where he can do some different things, differently, do
- 20:04Speaker 1: some different things. But he's gotten reps at left tackle
- 20:08Speaker 1: and predominantly right tackle.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But because of that, Fred.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Johnson hasn't seen a lot of work with the first
- 20:16Speaker 1: team of late, and for a veteran like this.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It is a little curious.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So for those reasons, until we learn more, I can't
- 20:24Speaker 1: really expand a whole bunch about that because I couldn't
- 20:28Speaker 1: tell you how he's performed or things like that. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: can tell you that there's been edge rushers who have
- 20:33Speaker 1: had some success against them, one of them being jaywox Hunt,
- 20:36Speaker 1: but it's jaywoxs Hunt. He's gotten the better of pretty
- 20:39Speaker 1: much everyone that he's gone up against. But Arnold Ibi
- 20:42Speaker 1: Katie had a nice bull rush against them and some
- 20:44Speaker 1: other players as well. Whereas with Mark hel Bell, some
- 20:48Speaker 1: of those things aren't as noticeable at least, and I
- 20:51Speaker 1: think for those reasons, Fred Johnson has to be on
- 20:54Speaker 1: this list. To that end, I'll also add, and this
- 20:58Speaker 1: is sort of a combination here, Miles Hinton and Cameron Williams,
- 21:01Speaker 1: two of the Eagles Day three picks from last year.
- 21:05Speaker 2: They were in the building last year, they were in meetings.
- 21:08Speaker 1: They didn't play any game except Cameron Williams played in
- 21:10Speaker 1: the finale, and I thought he handed himself pretty well
- 21:14Speaker 1: all things considered, and I was a little bit higher
- 21:16Speaker 1: on him than I was Miles Hinton going into really
- 21:21Speaker 1: the offseason and certainly training camp. But both players are
- 21:24Speaker 1: relegated to the third team, whereas other players, whether it's
- 21:28Speaker 1: Jake Majors or John Dejukwu or whoever you want to
- 21:34Speaker 1: Michael Jordan, who's a veteran, they're all getting second team work.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And Miles Hinton in the spring was working as a
- 21:41Speaker 1: second team guard. That hasn't been the case right now.
- 21:45Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean, neither players should be considered. I mean,
- 21:50Speaker 1: they're on the fringes squarely, but I think to see
- 21:54Speaker 1: them relegated to the third team given their year of
- 21:56Speaker 1: experience in that building and things like that.
- 21:59Speaker 2: There's other players who were in the building for a year.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Like Jake Majors, John Ajukwu has played in sixteen NFL games,
- 22:05Speaker 1: starting nine, so maybe you're gonna give him the nod
- 22:09Speaker 1: over some of those younger players, but I have yet
- 22:12Speaker 1: to really see it with either one. I still think
- 22:15Speaker 1: that Cameron Williams has more upside than Miles Hinton, but
- 22:19Speaker 1: both players right.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Now are in my stock down category.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I would also add rookie safety Cole was Nesky, who
- 22:26Speaker 1: the Eagles drafted in the seventh round out of Texas Tech.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He's been sidelined with a hamstring injury. He didn't participate
- 22:33Speaker 1: in the spring. He was sidelined there with an undisclosed
- 22:37Speaker 1: injury at that time, so he's missing a lot of
- 22:40Speaker 1: valuable reps, a lot of growth opportunities here and when
- 22:44Speaker 1: you're in the battle for a fourth safety spot, and
- 22:47Speaker 1: by the way, there's not really a front runner right now,
- 22:49Speaker 1: at least in my estimation. It's still pretty much open.
- 22:52Speaker 1: But as a rookie get you gotta take advantage of it.
- 22:57Speaker 1: It's very hard to make the club in the tub,
- 22:59Speaker 1: as they say, and you know, mental reps are important,
- 23:03Speaker 1: they're crucial, but nothing can replace the value of getting
- 23:10Speaker 1: those on field. Reps and and learning on the job
- 23:14Speaker 1: and all of those things, and he hasn't been able
- 23:17Speaker 1: to do that.
- 23:18Speaker 2: He's a stock down candidate.
- 23:19Speaker 1: We'll see if he's able to get back on the
- 23:21Speaker 1: field relatively soon, and we'll round things out here with
- 23:29Speaker 1: defensive tackle Ty Robinson, because I think that Ty Robinson
- 23:33Speaker 1: is a player. You look at the size, you look
- 23:36Speaker 1: at his pedigree, and the experience that he came into
- 23:38Speaker 1: the NFL with. I was of the belief at least
- 23:42Speaker 1: that he was going to factor in rotationally, maybe as
- 23:44Speaker 1: the fourth defensive tackle.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Last season.
- 23:47Speaker 1: He was never able to leave leap frog Byron Young.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Byron Young is a really good football player, and I
- 23:52Speaker 1: don't see him relinquishing his spot on the depth chart
- 23:56Speaker 1: anytime soon, well at least this year.
- 23:59Speaker 2: He's going to be a free agent at the end
- 24:00Speaker 2: of this year.
- 24:01Speaker 1: But I haven't seen anything from Ty Robinson, and as
- 24:06Speaker 1: a fourth round pick, you're going into year two, it's
- 24:08Speaker 1: a big year for him. Reps have been very infrequent,
- 24:12Speaker 1: and you don't see him stand apart when he's going
- 24:15Speaker 1: against these third team offensive linemen, where you would like
- 24:19Speaker 1: to see him dominate or at least offer glimpses of
- 24:23Speaker 1: what he can potentially become or signs of growth and development.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I haven't seen anything from ty Robinson.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Maybe he's a player who when the lights come on
- 24:32Speaker 1: and you're playing in a game situation, he performs better.
- 24:36Speaker 1: But right now, I just I haven't seen anything one
- 24:39Speaker 1: way or another from Ty Robinson. And he hasn't been
- 24:42Speaker 1: able to graduate to the second unit. He's been really
- 24:46Speaker 1: relegated to third team developmental periods and things like that.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So until he flashes or pops, he's going to be
- 24:54Speaker 1: on the stock down list relative to where he was
- 24:56Speaker 1: drafted and what some of those expectations were when arrived
- 25:00Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. Those are my stock down and stock up
- 25:04Speaker 1: performers through six training camp practices for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 25:08Speaker 1: They are back on the practice field Friday morning at
- 25:11Speaker 1: ten am, and that is going to do it for

- 25:36Speaker 3: It would be in one of those styrofoam to go cups,

- 25:43Speaker 3: places with the styrofoam cups. You know them very well,
