- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Tuesday, it's the 10th of
- 0:16June. Hope you're going well, hope
- 0:18that you are well if you are near me in Tassie that you are
- 0:22not too frozen. Blimey Charlie, it has just
- 0:26properly become winter and if you are somewhere warmer, Gee, I
- 0:31hope you're enjoying it. Enjoy it for me, Enjoy a lovely
- 0:33little bit of nice mild temperature, maybe even heat
- 0:37depending on where you are. Oh man, I can't even comprehend
- 0:40being hot right now. That's OK.
- 0:42Life is seasonal, and the season that we are now entering as we
- 0:47continue reading God's word is a season where we slow right down
- 0:51and really unpack each one of those commandments.
- 0:56And the first one that we're really going to unpack is having
- 0:59no other God beside God. And so for the next, well, the
- 1:03next week or so, we are going to really look at what does it look
- 1:07like? What does it look like to serve
- 1:09our God? Only because I'm sure, you know,
- 1:12friends, as I know in my life that there are lots of things
- 1:15that compete for the top spot. But here we're going to settle
- 1:18in in here for those people at that time, What does it look
- 1:21like to have that absolute fidelity to our God in our life?
- 1:26You want to read this one with me, right?
- 1:29Let us do that. Let us read together Deuteronomy
- 1:33chapter 6. These are the commands, decrees,
- 1:46and regulations that the Lord your God commanded me to teach
- 1:50you. You must obey them in the land
- 1:53you are about to enter and occupy.
- 1:55And you and your children and grandchildren must fear the Lord
- 2:00your God as long as you live. If you obey all His decrees and
- 2:05commands, you will enjoy a long life.
- 2:09Listen closely, Israel, and be careful to obey.
- 2:13Then all will go well with you, and you will have many children
- 2:17in the land, flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the
- 2:21God of your ancestors, promised you.
- 2:25Listen, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord alone, and you
- 2:32must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul,
- 2:37and all your strength, and you must commit yourselves
- 2:40wholeheartedly to these commands that I'm giving you today.
- 2:45Repeat them again and again to your children.
- 2:48Talk about them when you're at home and when you're on the
- 2:51road. When you were going to bed and
- 2:54when you were getting up, tie them to your hands and wear them
- 2:58on your foreheads as reminders. Write them on the door posts of
- 3:03your house and on your gates. The Lord your God will soon
- 3:07bring you into the land He swore to give you when He made a vow
- 3:10to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- 3:15It is a land with large, prosperous cities that you did
- 3:18not build. The houses will be richly
- 3:21stocked with goods you did not produce.
- 3:25You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and
- 3:29you will eat from vineyards and other trees you did not plant.
- 3:33When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to
- 3:37forget the Lord who rescued you from slavery in the land of
- 3:40Egypt. You must fear the Lord your God
- 3:44and serve Him. When you take an oath, you must
- 3:48use only His name. You must not worship any of the
- 3:52gods of neighbouring nations, for the Lord your God who lives
- 3:56among you is a jealous God. His anger will flare up against
- 4:01you, and He will wipe you from the face of the earth.
- 4:05You must not test the Lord your God as you did when you
- 4:08complained at Massa. You must diligently obey the
- 4:12commands of the Lord your God, all the laws and decrees He has
- 4:16given you. Do what is right and good in the
- 4:20Lord's sight so all will go well with you.
- 4:23Then you will enter and occupy the good land that the Lord
- 4:27swore to give your ancestors. You will drive out all the
- 4:31enemies living in the land, just as the Lord said you would.
- 4:35In the future your children will ask you, what is the meaning of
- 4:39these laws, decrees and regulations that the Lord our
- 4:42God has commanded us to obey? Then you must tell them we were
- 4:47Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt
- 4:51with his strong hand. The Lord did miraculous signs
- 4:55and wonders before our eyes, dealing terrifying blows against
- 5:00Egypt and Pharaoh and all his people.
- 5:02He brought us out of Egypt so he could give us this land He had
- 5:07sworn to give our ancestors. And the Lord our God commanded
- 5:11us to obey all these decrees and to fear Him so He can continue
- 5:17to bless us and preserve our lives as He has done to this
- 5:22day. For we will be counted as
- 5:24righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has
- 5:29given us. Our Lord, There was such a
- 5:41simple clarity for these people entering that land as they would
- 5:46drive out the inhabitants and inherit homes and wells and
- 5:51vineyards and fruit bearing trees that they did not produce,
- 5:56build or work for. But it was a gift from you.
- 6:01It's so clear to them. Ah, but for the generations that
- 6:05came after, they needed to continually remind them that
- 6:09these, all of these things, that our life is a gift from you.
- 6:14And so for us who live our lives and we can very easily convince
- 6:19ourselves that everything that we have is because of our
- 6:22cleverness and our good hard work.
- 6:25But Lord, it is all a gift of your provision.
- 6:29All the things that we enjoy, ah, they are your goodness
- 6:33lavished upon us. Always keep our minds sharply
- 6:38attuned to know for sure that all these things are good gifts
- 6:44from you, our loving Heavenly Father, our Provider, our God.
- 6:50And thank you for your generosity.
- 6:53Thank you that you give us abilities.
- 6:55You give us bodies that we can use to make a difference in this
- 7:00world. And you also give us good things
- 7:04and a good world to enjoy. Thank you for your provisions.
- 7:09Help us always lay the gratitude at your feet, our wonderful,
- 7:15caring and mighty God. We pray all of this in the name
- 7:19of Jesus, Amen.
