- 0:00Our insurance system is so broken. I think so many families, maybe you included,
- 0:05realize that you're paying so much money every single month,
- 0:09and the things that you actually use are not covered, and then your deductible
- 0:13is so high that even if it is covered, you end up paying all out of pocket.
- 0:17Really, you only have insurance for the catastrophic things,
- 0:21and you start to wonder, is there a better way?
- 0:24And that is why you're listening, and I have hope for you.
- 0:27Last month, I spent quite a bit of time looking at different health sharing
- 0:31companies, like alternatives to insurance.
- 0:33And I was specifically looking for my family. I have a family of six and we
- 0:39are very wellness focused. Also, I have a pre-existing condition of diagnosed Hashimoto's.
- 0:45So maybe that is like you, but I looked at between like maybe six and 10 different companies.
- 0:50And I talked on the phone to two of them after I looked at even more, like I said,
- 0:56and the best company for my family, for a wellness-focused family who wants
- 1:02to pursue, you know, prevention and wellness things, chiropractic, gym.
- 1:08Thermography instead of mammograms, things like that.
- 1:11The best company was New Health, K-N-E-W Health.
- 1:16And so that is the company that I chose to go with. I was so impressed,
- 1:20especially while talking to them on the phone.
- 1:22I said, you know what? I think that my podcast listeners would love to learn about this option too.
- 1:28Would somebody from the company be willing to be interviewed on the Health with Hashimoto's podcast?
- 1:33Danielle is willing. She is our guest today. I hope you learn a lot.
- 1:38Not all health sharing companies are the.
- 1:43Different components and different things that they do.
- 1:47So if you choose to go with a health sharing program, know that they are all a little different.
- 1:51The one that works for me and my family is NewHealth, and I hope this helps you.
- 1:56Stay tuned to the end. I do have a discount code.
- 1:59It will save you 20% off of your entire first year. Welcome to the Health with Hashimoto's podcast.
- 2:05This is where you will find clarity and simple, sustainable strategies to feel
- 2:10better. I want to help you figure out your root causes.
- 2:14My name is Esther Yunkin. I am a registered nurse.
- 2:17I spent about 17 years in the emergency department and then got sick and tired
- 2:21of putting band-aids on chronic things.
- 2:23I went back to school and now I have been in holistic health education for about 10 years.
- 2:28I know how exhausting it is to live with fatigue, brain fog,
- 2:32and the ups and downs of Hashimoto's and that is why I'm here.
- 2:35I'm here to cut through the confusion and to give you practical steps that support
- 2:40your body, calm your immune system, so that you can regain your energy and feel like yourself again.
- 2:46Alright, welcome back to Health with Hashimoto's. I have a guest for you today,
- 2:50and today I am releasing it as a bonus episode, not going on our traditional
- 2:55Thursday releases, because I want you to have this information ASAP.
- 2:59I am interviewing Danielle from New Health, K-N-E-W Health.
- 3:04And this is a health sharing program. So not insurance, but like an alternative.
- 3:10And I'm going to try to get all of your questions answered. If you listen to
- 3:13this whole interview and you don't get a question answered, I will tell you
- 3:17from personal experience, you could just call up the company and they are super
- 3:20friendly and will answer everything.
- 3:23And then also stay tuned to the end because I have a ginormous discount for
- 3:27you if you choose to use this company and also just good information as you look at any company.
- 3:34So welcome, Danielle. Tell us a little bit about yourself and then what is a
- 3:38health sharing company?
- 3:41Absolutely. So my name is Danielle. I am on the member care team at New Health and I'm also,
- 3:47part of the New Health community, my role really is to just answer questions
- 3:52for prospective members and really help them figure out if New Health is the
- 3:57right fit for them, for their family, for their business.
- 4:00So what we do at New Health, we are actually an alternative to health insurance.
- 4:07And it's typically more affordable, way more affordable for some people.
- 4:12And really the whole concept is where our members contribute a monthly amount,
- 4:18which goes into a community fund, so that when someone from our community has a medical need,
- 4:25it's paid for through the fund.
- 4:27So the concept's been around for over 50 years. So we're not like the first
- 4:33people in the industry, but I like to think that we've perfected it.
- 4:36Most other health shares are religious-based, So a lot of them have their members take,
- 4:42like, for example, an oath of, say, Christianity, whereas we are not religious-based,
- 4:48we're inclusive, so that's something that sets us apart, and we don't have network restrictions.
- 4:53So our members can see any doctor anywhere, whether they're alternative or traditional.
- 4:59We really leave it up to everyone to decide their care.
- 5:03Yeah, I know when we were looking at health insurance this year, we had a price increase.
- 5:07I talked to a friend and their insurance through, I believe,
- 5:12work. She said this next year, it was going to be triple the rate of their mortgage
- 5:16every month, which is just crazy.
- 5:20And so I started looking at all the different health sharing companies.
- 5:24I do have experience with some of the religious ones, not personally, but family members.
- 5:29And I felt like,
- 5:32Now, I'm a rule follower. I want to know the reason behind the rule,
- 5:35but I'm a rule follower, so I get it.
- 5:37But I feel like a lot of the religious companies have a lot of rules that you
- 5:42have to follow in order to meet their criteria.
- 5:45And with New Health, when I talked to you guys on the phone,
- 5:48I felt like you wanted the best for me, and you believed that I was pursuing the best.
- 5:55Is that accurate? I love that. It is. It really is. So the founder of New Health,
- 6:01his name is Joshua Rosenthal.
- 6:02He actually started the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
- 6:06So some listeners might be familiar.
- 6:09It's actually the world's largest holistic nutrition school.
- 6:12They have over almost 200,000 graduates now in nearly 200 countries.
- 6:17And the whole focus of the curriculum is teaching people that health is more
- 6:21than just about food and that people can do so much more than their yearly doctor's
- 6:26visits. And they actually train people to become health coaches.
- 6:30So he was always in the holistic world.
- 6:33And he always would say in the curriculum that our health care system is broken
- 6:38and that it's just not working for millions of Americans, especially healthier ones.
- 6:44And so he sold IIN.
- 6:47And when he did that, he decided that new health was going to be his next baby.
- 6:51And he took on this whole industry, you know, saw what wasn't working with other
- 6:56health shares and really made it work.
- 6:59Something that we pride ourselves on is our customer service.
- 7:02I think calling insurance in general is a nightmare.
- 7:06I had to take the day off when I had health insurance to get through to them.
- 7:09So we really pride ourselves on customer service, but also preventative care.
- 7:14So we share in more preventative care than any other health share.
- 7:18So Joshua's goal was really to do as much as he could to keep the community
- 7:24healthy, to avoid the illnesses and injuries that come, you know,
- 7:28down the road. And we haven't taken a price increase in a little over six years.
- 7:33So it seems to be working for everyone, for sure.
- 7:37That is incredible. I know one of the things when I talked to you,
- 7:41somebody mentioned thermography, and I have chosen to do thermography instead of mammograms.
- 7:46After looking at all of the research, I decided that for me.
- 7:49Tell me about that kind of wellness, because I don't see that anywhere else
- 7:54where they're like, oh, yeah, go get thermography.
- 7:57Yeah. Yeah. So like I just mentioned, it's something we really want to prioritize for everyone.
- 8:02So as soon as the membership begins, we give everyone several allowances for
- 8:07various preventative health services that we just reimburse you for up to the allowance amount.
- 8:13So every person gets an allowance for an annual physical.
- 8:17We do another one for a well woman exam and pap smear, one for a mammogram or
- 8:23thermogram or ultrasound,
- 8:25one for a colonoscopy, any immunizations you choose to do, STD testing, and birth control.
- 8:33So for example, a physical is a $250 allowance. So you would just tell your doctor your self-pay.
- 8:42You get an itemized receipt, submit it to us, and then we reimburse you up to
- 8:47$250 since that's the allowance amount for physical.
- 8:50We also reimburse super quick. It's just one to two weeks for a check,
- 8:55or you can set up direct deposit.
- 8:58I've seen that hit my account in just a couple of days. So it's very fast.
- 9:02And we also do extensive research every year as to what these services cost for self-pay patients.
- 9:09And the amounts that we've set forth are actually a little higher than what
- 9:14the national average cost is.
- 9:15So you really shouldn't expect to have to come out of pocket,
- 9:19you know, for anything beyond that.
- 9:21Something else I want to mention is our blood work allowance.
- 9:24This one is really unique.
- 9:26I haven't heard of anyone doing what we do with blood work.
- 9:29So believe it or not, blood work tends to be something that most doctors upcharge
- 9:34by sometimes 95%. I don't know if you've experienced it. It's crazy.
- 9:40But in order to keep the cost down, we actually have our members order their
- 9:45own blood work through a company called Avexia.
- 9:49Avexia sends you over to your local lab core, and that's where you get your blood drawn.
- 9:54We give you some panels for free. So the most common ones a doctor wants are
- 9:58usually the CBC, the metabolic panel, and insulin.
- 10:02So our members can order those for free through Avexia anytime.
- 10:06And then everything else is wholesale priced. So you're going to see labs in there for like $4, $8.
- 10:13A thyroid panel is $15.
- 10:16And we reimburse each person up to $80 a year, but you also don't need a doctor's
- 10:22order for anything. So if you are just curious about your thyroid or your estrogen,
- 10:26your cortisol, you can just order it and you get the results directly.
- 10:31And then the last allowance I wanna quickly mention is a self-care allowance.
- 10:36It's $200 a year. It's the only one a family would share, but you can use it
- 10:41for pretty much anything self-care related. You can get reimbursed for the chiropractor,
- 10:46massage, gym membership, vitamins, supplements, acupuncture.
- 10:50It's totally up to you that you want to utilize that one.
- 10:54That is all so incredible. And for anybody listening, I have done a couple of
- 11:00podcast episodes about ordering your own labs and what to look for.
- 11:03I also compared prices for ordering your own labs. I looked at,
- 11:08I think like four or five different companies.
- 11:10I did not know about, what did you say? Evixia? Is that what? Evixia. Evixia.
- 11:15Yeah. And so I looked at the prices after talking to you guys,
- 11:19and it is cheaper than anything I have been able to find.
- 11:22So I can't wait for my membership to kick in.
- 11:26So we enrolled during my husband's open enrollment a couple of weeks ago.
- 11:31And then we sent an email, as you guys say, to pick our start date because our
- 11:37last year's insurance goes through the end of this year.
- 11:40So January 1, I am going to be taking advantage of all of those different perks.
- 11:46Yes, I'm super excited. So is there anything that we haven't covered as far
- 11:50as the similarities and differences between traditional insurance and a health
- 11:55share company, like whether it's yours or any health share?
- 11:59Yeah, I mean, so we definitely do things differently when it comes to illnesses and injuries, right?
- 12:06So everyone's probably really comfortable with what a deductible is with health
- 12:10insurance and, you know, your deductible resets every calendar year.
- 12:14Whereas for us, the way that it would work for a new illness or injury.
- 12:19So when someone enrolls, they're going to choose what we call is the initial
- 12:24unshareable amount. We call it an IUA for short.
- 12:28So the IUA is the amount that you're responsible for paying for each new medical event that occurs.
- 12:36And then whatever amount is beyond that for that particular medical event is
- 12:42what New Health would share in or pay for.
- 12:46There's three options that someone can choose from. There's $5,000, $2,500, and $1,000.
- 12:52The lower the IUA, the higher the monthly membership fee.
- 12:57But you won't be responsible for more than three IUAs per family per membership year.
- 13:05So three things could happen to me. And then if one thing happens to my husband,
- 13:10we don't pay an IUA for his injury because we already paid free for my really bad year.
- 13:16So like, let's say I woke up with appendicitis, for example.
- 13:21Maybe emergency surgery comes out to be $40,000.
- 13:25I would submit the unpaid bill over to New Health.
- 13:29They actually go through the bill to make sure it's correct,
- 13:32which, by the way, we find that 83% of medical bills have a medical error on them.
- 13:39And then it's insane. And then we help by negotiating that bill down.
- 13:45And on average, we lower bills by about 46%.
- 13:49So let's say New Health is able to drop my bill to $20,000.
- 13:53It's just as simple as I pay the hospital my IUA of $1,000, and then New Health
- 14:00sends me a check for the remaining $19,000 so that I can pay the rest of my bill.
- 14:05And then if anything else is needed for that surgery or that illness,
- 14:11I just continue to submit it, and New Health continues to send me checks.
- 14:15So unlike a deductible that resets every calendar year, an IUA never resets
- 14:22for a medical condition until you're symptom-free for a year.
- 14:26So in this scenario, if I had insurance and my surgery was in December,
- 14:31and then I needed another surgery for that particular illness in January,
- 14:36I'd have to hit another deductible.
- 14:39Whereas with an IUA, it never resets until I'm symptom-free for a year.
- 14:44So that's something that makes it really different.
- 14:47Now, also, if I ever have an illness or injury, and maybe I want to seek out
- 14:53an alternative treatment, right? Maybe I want to work with a functional medicine doctor.
- 14:57Insurance typically wouldn't pay for that. Neither would most other health shares.
- 15:01With new health, you just have to fill out an alternative treatment plan,
- 15:05which outlines the benefits of the treatment, the cost of the treatment.
- 15:09Then we might ask for some doctor's notes and we approve them on a case-by-case
- 15:13basis, in which case, if it's approved,
- 15:16I just pay my IUA and new health shares beyond that. So also something that
- 15:22makes this much different.
- 15:24What else? You know, we spoke about customer service. I can't tell you enough.
- 15:28You can call, you can email, you can hop on chat.
- 15:33If you have a question about something and you have another question about it,
- 15:37we try and have you speak to the same person so that you're not repeating yourself over and over again.
- 15:42So it's just the experience we try and have people really have.
- 15:47And by the way, for everyone listening, if you haven't seen our reviews on Trustpilot,
- 15:52I recommend going on there.
- 15:54We are very proud of our 4.7 out of a five-star review.
- 15:58Everything I'm saying with how much our members appreciate everything is all
- 16:02there, so you can see it firsthand what they say.
- 16:06Absolutely. Now, what about pre-existing conditions? So I'm assuming,
- 16:10you know, that most people listening have Hashimoto's, or at least they suspect
- 16:15they have a thyroid issue. So tell us about how that works. Sure.
- 16:21Yeah. So we consider a pre-existing condition to be anything from the last two
- 16:27years that you've either been diagnosed with or have symptoms of or have been
- 16:32treating or taking medication for.
- 16:34In which case, if something is needed for that condition in year one, it's not shareable.
- 16:42In year two, we can share up to $25,000 for it.
- 16:47In year three, up to $50,000 for it.
- 16:50And then in year four and beyond, $125,000 a year for that condition.
- 16:57Now, that being said, we have many members who have various autoimmune conditions
- 17:04and thyroid conditions.
- 17:06However, given, again, the pricing that we spoke about with Avexia and blood
- 17:11work, which is usually something that, you know, I'm sure you run every couple
- 17:15of months, at least once a year, you're saving a lot of money on that.
- 17:19So like I mentioned, a thyroid panel is $15 and you can order it yourself without your doctor's order.
- 17:26Now, medications is something, so maintenance medications we do not share in.
- 17:32However, we give great resources like GoodRx and SingleCare,
- 17:36which are websites where you can get coupons at the most affordable pharmacies near you.
- 17:42I've seen, you know, various thyroid medications for less than $10 on there.
- 17:47So it's another great way to help with those costs as well. Wow. Wow.
- 17:53When I was talking to different companies, I called different pharmacists and
- 17:57I was looking at labs and I wanted to look at every single detail,
- 18:00every single data point because I didn't want to go on emotions or advertising
- 18:04or anything. I wanted to look at the hard data.
- 18:07And I definitely, after calculating everything, we are saving money definitely
- 18:12with New Health, switching, making that switch.
- 18:14So even knowing that, you know, nothing for Hashimoto's is covered for at least
- 18:21the first year, we're still saving money.
- 18:24So many of my listeners use functional labs. So I'm assuming we can get those through Evixia.
- 18:31And then what about like food sensitivity testing or hormone panels?
- 18:36Like insurance will deny those. What happens here?
- 18:40So if it is for something pre-existing, that wouldn't be shareable in year one.
- 18:46So there's a lot of different testing.
- 18:49There's different tests available through Avexia. Like I know they have all
- 18:52different panels and things you can do to test for food sensitivities.
- 18:56So it is going to be much more affordable to use it than to do it in person.
- 19:01So something related to allergies, that would be something because it's,
- 19:07again, And if you're already having symptoms of something, it would not be shareable in year one.
- 19:12But in year two, for something related to an allergy, any allergy testing,
- 19:18curative treatments and medications are eligible up to $2,500 per need.
- 19:25But the tests do have to be ordered through a traditional MD.
- 19:30So if the testing is ordered by like a functional medicine doctor or integrative
- 19:34doctor, it would not be shareable. But as long as it's through a traditional
- 19:38MD, then it's up to $2,500 starting in year two.
- 19:44Okay. And then you mentioned pharmacies and coupons and stuff.
- 19:47What about a compounding pharmacy if somebody is getting medication through one of those?
- 19:53So in general, if you need a maintenance medication or a medication for something
- 20:00that's more acute, like if you just need like an antibiotic for strep throat,
- 20:04that would be something you would just pay for out of pocket,
- 20:07which, again, are generally pretty inexpensive for something like an antibiotic.
- 20:11If you have a new medical condition where you're paying an IUA,
- 20:16then we would reimburse you for that medication for up to a year.
- 20:21So regardless of how you get the medication, you would first be responsible
- 20:25for your IUA. And we would share, you know, anything beyond that,
- 20:31including the medications for up to a year. Okay.
- 20:34So if I have four kids and say someone has a sore throat, I feel like it might
- 20:41be strep. Yeah. What happens in that case?
- 20:44So there's a few things, right? So if you wanted to see someone in person,
- 20:48because it's something that's less than your IUA, you would just pay for with a self-pay discount.
- 20:55So, I mean, I know my pediatrician charges maybe $80 for a sick visit.
- 21:01However, if it's something you wanted to use maybe telehealth for,
- 21:05we reimburse you for that as many times as you need it.
- 21:08And we let you decide on the telehealth provider because it's always about freedom of provider.
- 21:14So if you don't know of any, we give you some resources in your member portal.
- 21:18But if you have a preferred website
- 21:20or a doctor that you know of that does telehealth, you can use them.
- 21:24And we reimburse you for it as many times as you need it. Now,
- 21:28we also give our members a ton of different resources in their member portal.
- 21:33One of them is actually a medical supplies company, which carries at-home strep tests.
- 21:39I paid $60 for, I want to say, 25 strep tests, and I can swab myself and my kids at home.
- 21:47And then if I show telehealth a positive strep test, they can call in a prescription for it.
- 21:52There's also a lot of states where you can just walk into a pharmacy and they
- 21:56can actually test you at a pharmacy as well.
- 21:58So there's a lot of different tips and tricks that we help give people to navigate
- 22:03the system a little differently and to make it more affordable.
- 22:06But yeah, that's a great way to navigate strep.
- 22:09That is fantastic. I ordered strep tests back when Amazon sold them and all
- 22:14of my tests are now expired and Amazon doesn't sell them anymore.
- 22:17I'm super excited that I can get in-date tests.
- 22:21Yes, exactly. I've still used them. I like to test the positive and negative
- 22:26controls to make sure that it's still working. But it would be good to have some in-date tests.
- 22:32And for anybody listening who's like, oh my goodness, I could never swab somebody's throat.
- 22:37Are there YouTube tutorials or how would somebody who's not a nurse do that?
- 22:42Like, how do you do it? Yeah, you can look it up on YouTube for sure.
- 22:47I mean, they do show pictures in there.
- 22:50For me, it's easier than some of my children. I have kids that are three, five, and seven.
- 22:55So it's not always the easiest, but their father helps with it.
- 23:00We just watch the videos and we talk them through it. But it's nice that I don't
- 23:04have to leave the house, right?
- 23:05I don't have to expose my kids to anything at the doctor's office. I don't have to travel.
- 23:09I can do it all at home myself. So it's great.
- 23:12Okay, so we've talked a little bit about families and, you know,
- 23:16those well-child checks and sick visits.
- 23:19What about empty nesters? Now, moving on to, you know, people who are retirement
- 23:24age, they're often looking for long-term vitality, but a lot of times they also
- 23:29have like several different conditions.
- 23:31What does an average retiree experience at New Health?
- 23:36So the membership ends once someone turns 65.
- 23:39Okay. But we have a lot of people who are in that in-between phase of their
- 23:44life where they're retiring, but they're not able to apply for Medicare, right?
- 23:49So this is a great way to have an in-between.
- 23:52I mean, we generally do have healthier people who enroll, but we actually make
- 23:58three exceptions for pre-existing conditions.
- 24:01They are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
- 24:05So as long as you have not been hospitalized for any of those in the last year,
- 24:10we don't consider them to be pre-existing if you're just able to control it
- 24:15with diet and or medication.
- 24:17But if they do have some sort of, you know, other pre-existing condition,
- 24:21it would not be shareable in year one.
- 24:24That being said, we tend to draw in people who are healthier and who,
- 24:30you know, like a lot of people, they just, they aren't using their health insurance
- 24:33and they're spending a lot of money on something they're just not using unless
- 24:38it's something catastrophic that they're looking for it for,
- 24:41for peace of mind, which is what we're here for, right?
- 24:44That's why people come to us in the first place is for the peace of mind for something large.
- 24:49So, you know, I think that's the best way to think about that.
- 24:52Awesome. Awesome. So somebody who's feeling like they're ready to make the switch,
- 24:56what is the first step to join new health?
- 24:59And then how can they use the affiliate code that you gave to me?
- 25:04Yeah, absolutely. So you can pop on our website. It's newhealth.com.
- 25:08There's a pretty quick little calculator button that you can just put in your
- 25:13information and you will just put in like, you know, your age,
- 25:17where you live. It'll tell you your costs.
- 25:20So it'll tell you what your monthly contribution will be according to the IUA's.
- 25:25It'll show you all the options.
- 25:26And what we're doing for all of our listeners is giving you 20% off your first year.
- 25:32So there's a little box where you can put a referrer name.
- 25:37And when you enroll, you can put this in the code, there's going to be a code
- 25:41section, and you want to use HWH20.
- 25:46Okay, so that's going to give you 20% off your first year.
- 25:50So the first thing if you want is just use the cost calculator on the website, it'll tell your price.
- 25:56And then we can call you or you can call us with any individual questions that you have remaining.
- 26:01We're all really lovely. Like Esther said, we just want to help you really figure
- 26:06out if this is the next best step for you.
- 26:09But if you feel like you've heard what you need to hear and you're ready to
- 26:12enroll, the membership always starts the first of the following month.
- 26:17If you need to defer your membership like Esther did, you can enroll using the
- 26:23code and just email us and let us know when you want to begin.
- 26:28So if you enroll in November and you want a membership to start January 1st,
- 26:33you can email hello at newhealth.com and say, hey, I just enrolled,
- 26:38but I want to defer my start date to January 1st.
- 26:41So the payment you would make in November would be for your January membership.
- 26:45And then we won't charge you again until January for your February membership.
- 26:51And those instructions are going to be on the application when you enroll as well.
- 26:56Awesome. Is there anything that I should have asked that I didn't ask?
- 27:00Any like common questions?
- 27:03Common, I'm trying to think. We went through a lot. We didn't touch upon maternity.
- 27:06Oh, okay. We kind of, you know, people who are thinking of growing or starting your family.
- 27:12So New Health shares in everything from prenatal visits to ultrasounds, blood work,
- 27:18whether you want a home birth with a midwife or a birthing center or a hospital,
- 27:23your postnatal visit, the baby's wellness, in the hospital, their wellness check.
- 27:28We also share in pelvic floor therapy, chiropractic care, and postpartum depression counseling as well.
- 27:35So I wish I had new health when I had my babies.
- 27:39The only difference is that regardless of the IUA you enrolled with,
- 27:44everything related to your pregnancy is a $5,000 IUA instead, okay?
- 27:49So you would be responsible for $5,000, and we would share in the remaining costs.
- 27:54There is a wait period for maternity.
- 27:57The estimated due date has to be in the second year of membership.
- 28:01So it does not mean that you have to wait until year two to become pregnant.
- 28:05It just means that you have to wait about 90 days from when the membership begins
- 28:12to conceive in order to put the due date into year two.
- 28:17We share in more for pregnancy and maternity than any other health share.
- 28:21We share in more preventative than any other health share.
- 28:24We also give everyone a Fullscript membership. So it gives you 35% off of all
- 28:29vitamins and supplements that you order through Fullscript. They have all the
- 28:33highest quality brands.
- 28:34We give everyone a fit-on membership for on-demand fitness and nutrition classes.
- 28:40And we give two free health coaching sessions to everyone each year.
- 28:44So our health coaches will take a look at what you're eating and your lifestyle
- 28:47and just make some small suggestions that might go a long way.
- 28:51We also have a medical concierge. So anytime you need something like an x-ray,
- 28:56an MRI, CAT scan, even your mammogram, colonoscopy,
- 29:01you can contact us and we can help you find it at the most affordable location near you.
- 29:07If you ever need a surgery ahead of time, you can ask your doctor and hospital
- 29:12for a quote and submit it to us.
- 29:14And we'll actually let you know if you're getting a fair and reasonable price.
- 29:18And if you're not, we would attempt to negotiate it ahead of time or even pay
- 29:22for you to get a second opinion elsewhere.
- 29:25So, you know, the negotiating is a really big piece to what we do.
- 29:30A lot of other health shares leave the negotiating to you.
- 29:34I don't know about you. I don't know how to negotiate a medical bill, nor do I have time.
- 29:39And if you think about it, whether a bill is $20,000, $40,000,
- 29:44$100,000, you're only responsible for your IUA that you chose.
- 29:49However, the fact that we're doing as much as we can to negotiate the bill and
- 29:53get it lower truly affects the whole community because it's less that's coming
- 29:58out of the fund, which is, in turn,
- 30:01helped us keep our rates at the same price for a little over six years.
- 30:06So that's how it directly impacts you as a member, is that because of how much
- 30:11we're doing to keep, you know, all of this care as low as possible,
- 30:14we haven't had to raise our rates.
- 30:17Other health shares raise their rates every couple of months,
- 30:20every year, but we do things very differently on the back end.
- 30:24And this is what's helped us with keeping our rates as low as possible.
- 30:28Wow. One thing you said is that everybody gets two health coach visits.
- 30:34Is that per family or is that per member? Per person.
- 30:37Per member. So each member gets two free health coaching sessions each year.
- 30:42We have in-staff health coaches that you can make an appointment with through your member portal.
- 30:47They have little bios and you can choose the one that resonates with you.
- 30:51And if you wanted to continue after those two sessions, they give you options to do that.
- 30:56And you can always use that self-care credit that I mentioned earlier to help
- 31:00get reimburse for up to $200 for health coaching if that's how you wanted to use it.
- 31:05Awesome. How does that work for kids and teens?
- 31:08So they are for adults. Okay. So it's 18 and over, but they might have some
- 31:14resources for some people that work with children.
- 31:17So you can always reach out to us with any direct questions about that.
- 31:21It's hello at newhealth.com and we can help you with that too.
- 31:25Awesome. Oh my goodness. I have learned so much in this interview and I already
- 31:31learned a ton when I called you guys earlier and you're absolutely right.
- 31:34Every single person that I've talked to on the phone or an email has been so
- 31:38personable and friendly, easy to talk to.
- 31:41I know some people get really nervous having to make a phone call.
- 31:45I don't even remember like a robo like option, like please dial one for this.
- 31:50And it was just a real person. It was so refreshing.
- 31:54Yeah, that's what we want to do. We always speak to a real person,
- 31:57you will never get directed to a random call center.
- 32:00So we're trying to kind of put that human touch back in healthcare.
- 32:04And then, you know, again, it's just always easy. to get in touch with someone.
- 32:08Because we know that this could be a stressful situation, you know,
- 32:12that you have questions about, that your health is on the line.
- 32:15And many people are doing this for the first time.
- 32:17It's a little nerve-wracking. And we just want to be here to support you,
- 32:20you know, through everything.
- 32:22Great. Danielle, if somebody is listening and they're a little overwhelmed,
- 32:26what is one thing that you want them to remember from our conversation?
- 32:30Oh, boy. One thing. There were so many. You know, we really do just want to
- 32:36help you and support you and just help you make health care more affordable and attainable.
- 32:41Health care, I think I read that people in Americans are drowning in more medical
- 32:48debt than any other type of debt.
- 32:51It's medical bills that are causing them to be drowning in these bills, this debt every month.
- 32:56And we just want to make it easy and affordable.
- 33:00And that's what we've done with this. You know, I'm hearing people get quotes
- 33:03from their health insurance for thousands of dollars a month.
- 33:06Like you said, it's like a mortgage payment and we don't want to,
- 33:09you know, have that hinder someone's lifestyle.
- 33:12So, you know, if you have questions, like I can't stress enough,
- 33:16just give us a call and we're here to help you and help navigate you through this.
- 33:20It is different from health insurance, but I like to think it's better.
- 33:24Not biased being a member or working for the company, but it's what,
- 33:29you know, our members say.
- 33:30It's just a completely different experience from any other healthcare company,
- 33:34including other health shares. We just do things very differently.
- 33:37So I know that there are some people who are listening who may have been part
- 33:42of a health share and maybe they didn't have the best experience with them for different reasons.
- 33:47I can guarantee we are different from them. So just give us a call and we'll
- 33:51really tell you all about that too.
- 33:54Awesome. Thank you so much for coming on the Health with Hashimoto's podcast.
