- 0:05Speaker 1: This is Nick Offerman, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:24Speaker 2: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:26Speaker 2: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:29Speaker 2: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:32Speaker 2: for you. but we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:34Speaker 2: from that do not feature Misty and will probably be
- 0:37Speaker 2: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. With that having been said,
- 0:41Speaker 2: on with the show.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Provide more cooling.
- 1:14Speaker 2: In the containment chamber.
- 1:17Speaker 3: To your stations.
- 1:19Speaker 5: We have a movie meltdown.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Pop quiz, hotshot!
- 1:27Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:29Speaker 6: I'm Misty.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording right
- 1:33Speaker 1: in the middle of IndiePopCon.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Hell yeah we are.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So Misty, how's it going?
- 1:37Speaker 6: I'm tired.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It's been an exhausting day.
- 1:40Speaker 6: I've done a lot of walking.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We've done a lot of walking.
- 1:42Speaker 6: A lot of mocking.
- 1:43Speaker 1: A lot of walking. A lot of observing. Mocking.
- 1:47Speaker 7: Mocking.
- 1:48Speaker 1: A lot of walking and mocking.
- 1:51Speaker 6: That's my new hobby.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Geek observations. That's what we do.
- 1:55Speaker 6: I did see the greatest costume duo that I've ever
- 1:59Speaker 6: seen because a lot of times with these like newfangled
- 2:02Speaker 6: like mostly anime conventions i have like no idea what's
- 2:06Speaker 6: going on and it's usually a lot of anime stuff
- 2:09Speaker 6: and that's cool if that's your thing but i'm like
- 2:11Speaker 6: totally lost i have.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Like i've just given up knowing any of the characters
- 2:14Speaker 1: they're all video game the anime and i'm just like
- 2:17Speaker 1: i'm an old man leave me.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Alone but then you get to that point where you're
- 2:19Speaker 6: like oh i recognize that character that's big hair number
- 2:21Speaker 6: three from that thing that we don't know what it
- 2:23Speaker 6: is they just That one has the red hair. We've
- 2:25Speaker 6: seen that one before. That one has the horns with
- 2:26Speaker 6: the little fire on them. We've seen that one before.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It's sad that I am at least starting to remember
- 2:31Speaker 1: some of them. I still don't know what they're from.
- 2:33Speaker 6: Oh, God, no, I don't. But anyways, I did see
- 2:35Speaker 6: the greatest pair, which was awesome because they didn't really
- 2:38Speaker 6: fit in because I knew what they were, for one.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And movie geek tie-in.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Totally movie geek tie-in. And I was totally stressed for
- 2:44Speaker 6: a second because I was waiting for them while you
- 2:45Speaker 6: were in the bathroom. And I'm like, oh, my God,
- 2:47Speaker 6: if Brian doesn't get out of the bathroom before they
- 2:50Speaker 6: walk past, I'm going to have to talk to a
- 2:51Speaker 6: random stranger and ask them to take my picture. And
- 2:54Speaker 6: then it's going to be awkward or I'm going to
- 2:56Speaker 6: have to wrangle them outside the bathroom.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I mean, you're already going to be like standing with
- 3:00Speaker 1: random strangers, but then you're going to have to talk
- 3:02Speaker 1: to another random stranger in conjunction with this. It's a
- 3:05Speaker 1: whole lot to deal with.
- 3:06Speaker 6: It's a whole thing. But the costume duo in question
- 3:09Speaker 6: will be Quint and the shark from Jaws.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Dude that just kind of looked like Quint. Put on
- 3:18Speaker 1: the right hat. Had the cool facial hair going. And
- 3:22Speaker 1: the denim action.
- 3:23Speaker 6: And the surly face.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Surly attitude. And he was ready to go. Because he
- 3:27Speaker 1: was super nice.
- 3:27Speaker 6: He was super nice.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He was really nice.
- 3:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Super nice. But in the photo, he had the Quint face.
- 3:31Speaker 6: He had the scowl down.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I'm angry at sharks.
- 3:33Speaker 6: And his wife slash girlfriend, I don't know. They were
- 3:36Speaker 6: holding hands. I'm assuming they were. Yeah. She was in
- 3:39Speaker 6: the shark costume.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Yep.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And later we saw him get ice cream.
- 3:43Speaker 6: And it was very awkward because he was like shoving
- 3:45Speaker 6: the ice cream up her shark face, like through the bottom.
- 3:49Speaker 1: As I said, it's hard for sharks to sleep or
- 3:51Speaker 1: eat ice cream. These were rough things for sharks.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Which is awesome because they were giving away free ice
- 3:55Speaker 6: cream here. I am all about free shit like 98%
- 3:58Speaker 6: of the time unless they want me to do a
- 4:00Speaker 6: survey first.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Which there was a lot of that. But it was
- 4:02Speaker 1: the same table. We just kept walking past.
- 4:04Speaker 6: And I'm like, what do you have? No, none of
- 4:06Speaker 6: this free shit's worth my time.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I can't handle your talking, interacting with humans.
- 4:12Speaker 6: I don't.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I can't.
- 4:13Speaker 6: I just need to wear a shirt that just says,
- 4:15Speaker 6: please don't interact with me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm on the spectrum. Leave me alone.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Dude.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You kind of are.
- 4:20Speaker 6: I'm on a different spectrum.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Well, I mean, when you were a kid, they didn't
- 4:23Speaker 1: have the spectrum, so they didn't know how to diagnose you.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But you're special, so we all know you're special.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I'm not spectrum special.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You might be.
- 4:30Speaker 6: I don't know. I just don't like social interaction.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You're on the tail end of the spectrum.
- 4:35Speaker 6: I mean, I can do it if I need to.
- 4:37Speaker 6: I just don't want to. But yeah, that costume duo,
- 4:42Speaker 6: I was ecstatic. I was beyond. Usually, I don't bother
- 4:45Speaker 6: getting my picture with people in costumes. Most of the time,
- 4:47Speaker 6: I'm just like... interaction. I just can't. But this time
- 4:51Speaker 6: I'm like, no. I need a picture of this because
- 4:54Speaker 6: this is awesome. I spent a lot of walking.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Much, much walking.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Trying to search for character cards of people that don't
- 5:03Speaker 6: exist here.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a cool thing that they've been doing
- 5:08Speaker 1: pretty much all the years since this one started. They
- 5:11Speaker 1: came up with their own collector cards. It's like.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Trading cards.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's like artists, like original artists are doing specific artwork
- 5:20Speaker 1: to match up with the guests who are at the convention.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And they make trading cards out of it. You got
- 5:24Speaker 1: to catch them all.
- 5:25Speaker 6: Well, this year they cut back. And the one person
- 5:28Speaker 6: that I'm looking for the trading card of, they didn't
- 5:30Speaker 6: do a trading card of. So we walked through, what,
- 5:32Speaker 6: how many times? Three times? Before we're like, we finally asked,
- 5:35Speaker 6: but they're like, oh, no, they didn't do one of
- 5:36Speaker 6: Kevin Nash. I'm like, what the fuck?
- 5:40Speaker 1: So now you have to go home and draw your
- 5:41Speaker 1: own Kevin Nash. Just like a piece of cardboard with
- 5:44Speaker 1: a stick person on it.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Derpy as shit.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But you can add him to your collection.
- 5:49Speaker 6: Totally could. I love this convention. This is one of
- 5:51Speaker 6: the few that I really enjoy coming to just because
- 5:54Speaker 6: it's usually not overly crowded. I mean, there are a
- 5:58Speaker 6: few people here that obviously does well, but it's not like...
- 6:00Speaker 6: It's not swamped. Yeah, it's not uncomfortable most of the time.
- 6:05Speaker 6: You might catch a costume accessory to the eye every
- 6:08Speaker 6: once in a while.
- 6:08Speaker 1: That's any convention you go to.
- 6:11Speaker 6: A costume accessory that you're not going to get the
- 6:12Speaker 6: reference to anyways.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Probably.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Many people will. Kids are cool. They know what's going on.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We are not cool.
- 6:19Speaker 6: They always have a nice variety of stuff. There's a
- 6:21Speaker 6: lot of artists. I love artists. I dig that stuff.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I love inexpensive art.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Cheap art.
- 6:27Speaker 6: I'm cheap. I'm broke.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm poor.
- 6:28Speaker 6: I want your cheap shit.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Mostly poor.
- 6:33Speaker 6: I bought something for charity.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I did too.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Because it was cheap and it was charity.
- 6:38Speaker 1: That's a bonus that it was for charity.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Mostly it was something I kind of wanted.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It was nice that it was cheap because, yeah, it's
- 6:43Speaker 1: something I like kicked myself for not getting a long
- 6:45Speaker 1: time ago anyway. So, you know. And of those many
- 6:49Speaker 1: crazy costume accessories, granted, I mean, some of them, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: I know I'm just a slacker when it comes to
- 6:57Speaker 1: costumes because I don't do it at all and don't
- 7:00Speaker 1: have any intention to really.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Oh no.
- 7:02Speaker 1: But, Some of them just look like a whole lot
- 7:05Speaker 1: of work. Like, if you got not just work going
- 7:07Speaker 1: into it, but, like, work getting around and keeping it
- 7:09Speaker 1: on you all day. Like, when you've got, like, maybe
- 7:12Speaker 1: one accessory, like, you're some sort of crazy character and
- 7:14Speaker 1: you have, like, a giant gun. Okay, you have, like,
- 7:16Speaker 1: that giant gun to worry about, like, as you round
- 7:18Speaker 1: corners and not, like, beating people in the head. But
- 7:22Speaker 1: the one earlier, and I pointed it out to you
- 7:24Speaker 1: and I was like, do you know what that is?
- 7:25Speaker 1: And neither of us did, by the way. But it
- 7:27Speaker 1: had giant horns. So I'm like, okay, it was the
- 7:30Speaker 1: lizard-y kind of whatever it was.
- 7:32Speaker 6: The dragon girl?
- 7:33Speaker 1: The lizard-y dragon girl thing lizard. So I'm just like,
- 7:36Speaker 1: first of all, you had giant horns on your head
- 7:38Speaker 1: to worry about falling off the whole time and or
- 7:41Speaker 1: hitting people with as you're rounding corners. Then you have
- 7:45Speaker 1: a giant tail to worry about keeping on and not
- 7:48Speaker 1: tripping over or tripping other people. And wings. Like there
- 7:52Speaker 1: were just too many aspects of it. Yeah, I'm just like, that's...
- 7:57Speaker 1: It's a lot of work for you just to get
- 7:58Speaker 1: around the whole day.
- 7:59Speaker 6: You get to put on regular clothes. That's what I'm saying.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I got my shoes on. I got to reach down
- 8:03Speaker 1: and tie my shoes. It's pretty hard.
- 8:05Speaker 6: Make some slippy shoes.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm not. It's a sad, sorry day when I've moved
- 8:09Speaker 1: on to Velcro. At least I'm sticking with Chucks and
- 8:11Speaker 1: I forced myself to tie them like a real human. No,
- 8:15Speaker 1: it's still Velcro shoes. I just don't want to go
- 8:17Speaker 1: down that road, man.
- 8:18Speaker 6: We need some Crocs.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I try to get other people, people that I know
- 8:22Speaker 1: that are constantly having to stop and tie their shoes.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I'm like, Velcro, really? I'm just telling you. If you
- 8:28Speaker 1: can't get the knot together to put, and to me,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm like, just double knot it. Hell, triple knot it.
- 8:34Speaker 7: Whatever.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But you won't have to stop and tie your shoes
- 8:36Speaker 1: seven times a day. Like, I don't know. I don't
- 8:39Speaker 1: understand people who can't just make their shoes stay tied.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It's not really that hard.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Apparently it is.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But I don't want to go down the Velcro shoes road.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Not that there's anything wrong with it, if that's your jam.
- 8:49Speaker 6: Just don't wear Crocs.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Don't wear Crocs. If you're going to wear something, get
- 8:53Speaker 1: some Roo's.
- 8:54Speaker 6: They had little pockets?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Some old school roos.
- 8:56Speaker 6: The little zippers?
- 8:57Speaker 1: That's what I'm looking for.
- 8:58Speaker 7: Hell yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 6: Fucking A.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I remember those.
- 8:59Speaker 6: They could put shit in there.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I could put like a house key. I had some
- 9:02Speaker 1: quarters in there. I was ready to go.
- 9:03Speaker 6: You never know when you might need to use a
- 9:05Speaker 6: pay phone.
- 9:05Speaker 1: That's right. Back in 1981 when you were wearing your roos,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you might need to put a dime in a phone.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Make yourself a call. So yeah, if you're going to
- 9:16Speaker 1: get weird shoes.
- 9:16Speaker 6: For those younger listeners.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Google that because you're not even going to. Your parents
- 9:20Speaker 1: will be like, what are you talking about weirdo? So yeah, roos.
- 9:24Speaker 1: That's the way to go if you need fancy special shoes. Otherwise,
- 9:28Speaker 1: just get some Chucks. You'll be good. So, we're back
- 9:33Speaker 1: in the middle of the yo-yo action this year.
- 9:35Speaker 6: There was some hell of a yo-yo. It wasn't as
- 9:37Speaker 6: exciting this year because I was like, first I didn't
- 9:39Speaker 6: know what was happening. So, I was already bummed out.
- 9:41Speaker 6: And then I saw it and I didn't see like
- 9:43Speaker 6: any like super standouts because like last year there was
- 9:45Speaker 6: like the gloves and there was like, there was an
- 9:47Speaker 6: aura of like, oh my gosh.
- 9:49Speaker 1: There's kind of an aura of badassdom. Where they were
- 9:52Speaker 1: all kind of like really full of themselves and ready
- 9:55Speaker 1: to like show off. For this time, it was just
- 9:57Speaker 1: like guys who wanted to yo-yo. And I say guys because...
- 10:00Speaker 1: I really didn't see any girls up there, but I
- 10:02Speaker 1: hadn't thought about it until now, but I feel like
- 10:04Speaker 1: everyone I saw doing the yo-yo action on the stage
- 10:07Speaker 1: were guys.
- 10:07Speaker 6: I didn't see the special gloves, but I wasn't paying
- 10:09Speaker 6: that much attention.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I didn't see the gloves.
- 10:11Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Like this just seems sort of like normal people doing
- 10:14Speaker 1: some yo-yo stuff, but like it wasn't like... Last year
- 10:17Speaker 1: was like hardcore.
- 10:19Speaker 1: All-star, and not just all-star, but all-star throwdown. They're just
- 10:24Speaker 1: going to go at it until the greatest yo-yo-er in
- 10:27Speaker 1: action in the world is standing alone on the stage.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Yo-yo rock stars. Yeah, yo-yo rock stars. So we didn't
- 10:32Speaker 1: have yo-yo rock stars this time. No. And I still
- 10:34Speaker 1: think you need to go up there and be like,
- 10:36Speaker 1: get me a yo-yo 101. Teach me the yo-yos.
- 10:39Speaker 6: I am telling you, it is inevitable that I will
- 10:42Speaker 6: end up the black eye from a yo-yo.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That's more than likely true.
- 10:46Speaker 6: And nobody's going to believe me that my boyfriend doesn't
- 10:47Speaker 6: beat me.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Well, if they know you, though, they'll be like, oh,
- 10:51Speaker 1: yo-yo accident. I mean, if they met you before, they
- 10:54Speaker 1: would totally buy a yo-yo accident.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Yeah, probably. Inevitable.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I still think you should be like, teach me the
- 11:02Speaker 1: ways of the yo-yo.
- 11:04Speaker 6: Juggling on a string, I'm telling you.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Magic.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It's pretty impressive. But I think they had like a
- 11:10Speaker 1: 101 going up there. Because at one point I heard
- 11:11Speaker 1: the guy on the mic being like, and you can
- 11:13Speaker 1: do walk the dog. And I'm like, that's like the.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I mean, that's easier than rock the baby. Like, anybody
- 11:18Speaker 1: can do walk the dog if you can keep it
- 11:20Speaker 1: going for a second. I can't do that. Well, I said,
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, if you can keep it going. So, it's
- 11:25Speaker 1: still pretty minimal as tricks go.
- 11:27Speaker 6: I can do around the world. And by around the world,
- 11:29Speaker 6: I mean taking it by the string and hitting it.
- 11:32Speaker 1: By around the world, you mean breaking things in the
- 11:34Speaker 1: middle of your living room. Yeah. Which is why you're
- 11:37Speaker 1: not allowed to yo-yo.
- 11:38Speaker 6: I don't do this in my living room.
- 11:39Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. You better not.
- 11:40Speaker 6: This is somebody else's living room.
- 11:42Speaker 1: You like your shit. You don't want to be breaking it.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Fucking A.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 6: How about to break the most exciting thing you saw
- 11:47Speaker 6: all day today?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Alright, which one?
- 11:49Speaker 6: The kid.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Do we need to start the DMX soundtrack? Because we're
- 11:56Speaker 1: walking down the hallway. We're not even in the middle
- 11:58Speaker 1: of the convention center. We're just walking down the hallway.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Some weird carpet action going.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Just cruising along.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It is a weird industrial, like artistically industrial carpet. So
- 12:09Speaker 1: we're just kind of cruising along and lo and behold
- 12:12Speaker 1: there on the left hand side is How old is
- 12:17Speaker 1: this kid?
- 12:18Speaker 4: 12-ish.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Just jamming out in the most dorky white kid style.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Two random DMX on a jam box, I guess. It
- 12:29Speaker 1: was just sitting like, I don't know. I don't even
- 12:31Speaker 1: know where the music was coming from.
- 12:32Speaker 6: I wonder if it was at his boom box.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:34Speaker 6: That's why I said I was like. Did he hear
- 12:36Speaker 6: the call?
- 12:37Speaker 1: I was like, did he come bearing a jam box
- 12:39Speaker 1: and sit it down and start busting out? Once again,
- 12:41Speaker 1: it was 1981 and that's what you do on the
- 12:43Speaker 1: side of the street.
- 12:44Speaker 6: He was totally rocking the fuck out though.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Except in the most dorky white kid style. If I
- 12:50Speaker 1: tried to dance. Yeah, it was just about the same
- 12:55Speaker 1: level of enthusiasm and skill. He was just like the
- 13:01Speaker 1: hands kind of back and forth. Just enough rocking back
- 13:05Speaker 1: and forth to kind of call it dancing. But yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 1: it was just the dorkiest white kid rocking out. And
- 13:12Speaker 1: of all things to DMX. Because you can't not rock out.
- 13:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I don't love DMX, but that song,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you can't fight it. It works. It does exactly what
- 13:22Speaker 1: it's supposed to do. It works as far as that
- 13:25Speaker 1: type of music. It is perfectly doing its thing. And
- 13:28Speaker 1: that kid fell right into its trap. Right under its spell.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He was just like, I can't stop myself.
- 13:34Speaker 6: It was just some random person's radio and he heard
- 13:37Speaker 6: it and he felt the pull.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 13:39Speaker 6: He couldn't resist it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He was just like, I have to bust it out.
- 13:43Speaker 6: I can't not do this, yo.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I don't know. That was one of the more impressive
- 13:47Speaker 1: things of the day.
- 13:50Speaker 6: It was epic.
- 13:51Speaker 1: It was pretty amazing. It's one of the few reasons
- 13:55Speaker 1: we leave the house. Interacting with other humans is not
- 13:58Speaker 1: normally what we do, but occasionally you witness something spectacular
- 14:01Speaker 1: like that.
- 14:02Speaker 6: It was pretty awesome. I saw lonely Kevin Nash. I
- 14:07Speaker 6: always feel bad for him. Then I realized how much
- 14:10Speaker 6: he's charging way too much for me to go talk
- 14:12Speaker 6: to him.
- 14:13Speaker 1: That might be true. I guess that's a case-by-case basis
- 14:16Speaker 1: for everyone to decide.
- 14:19Speaker 6: I'm guessing not a lot of people disagree because I
- 14:21Speaker 6: don't think I saw anybody.
- 14:23Speaker 1: He was just kind of hanging out up there by himself.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Like the one time we saw him over there, he
- 14:28Speaker 6: was gone most of the day.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Sometimes, you know, you got to go wander around.
- 14:33Speaker 6: He was out dancing and all. He was probably.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Picking up some pops. You know, you got to get
- 14:38Speaker 1: yourself loaded up with the latest pops.
- 14:40Speaker 6: Maybe you'll get some of that free ice cream.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Probably was.
- 14:43Speaker 6: He's a big dude. Can you imagine how many of
- 14:44Speaker 6: those ice creams he would throw back?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Maybe he was double fisting like that girl. That girl
- 14:48Speaker 1: went by. She was double fisting two mango vanilla centered sticks.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I don't know. She just had one in each. She
- 14:56Speaker 1: was going at both of them.
- 14:57Speaker 6: She was double fisting.
- 14:58Speaker 1: She had both of them bites taken out of her.
- 15:00Speaker 1: She wasn't messing around.
- 15:02Speaker 6: You don't mess around with that shit. If you're going
- 15:05Speaker 6: to have two, one of them is going to melt.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Somebody said free ice cream. She was like, and I'm there.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ice cream and more ice cream, thank you.
- 15:13Speaker 6: I'm thinking about going back right now. I'm thinking about it.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Except wooden spoon. Nobody likes a wooden spoon.
- 15:18Speaker 6: I hate fucking wooden spoons.
- 15:19Speaker 1: It's not really a spoon. I hate to tell everyone
- 15:21Speaker 1: in the world it's not a spoon.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I hate all ice cream on wooden sticks. I hate.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a good thing, really.
- 15:29Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know. Everybody does it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I mean, I guess it's, you know, as the world goes,
- 15:36Speaker 1: it's better than plastic, in theory. But I guess some people...
- 15:41Speaker 1: Don't care.
- 15:42Speaker 6: And you have that ice cream wood taste.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but the wood is not a good option,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I have to say.
- 15:46Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 15:47Speaker 1: We have to come up with some sort of in-between setting,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I suppose.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Maybe if we had the jewel, we'd figure it out. Oh, Lord.
- 15:56Speaker 6: I have no idea what they were even looking for.
- 15:58Speaker 6: We were sitting here minding our own business in this couple.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Was there a jewel device? I'm like, what are you?
- 16:04Speaker 1: Jewel device is what they were looking for as they
- 16:07Speaker 1: came over here. I'm like, you know, anywhere other than here,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I would think you were insane. But here, I'm just
- 16:13Speaker 1: like looking around. Oh, no, I don't see a jeweled device.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I don't know what to tell you, man.
- 16:19Speaker 6: I'm like, no, don't have one. I don't know what
- 16:22Speaker 6: magical properties it might have.
- 16:25Speaker 1: It is jeweled. I mean, can't go wrong with a
- 16:28Speaker 1: jeweled device.
- 16:28Speaker 6: It's a bedazzled or it's a jeweled.
- 16:34Speaker 1: We saw Wario cruising up and down the hallway.
- 16:36Speaker 6: He had the cart and everything.
- 16:37Speaker 1: He had the full Wario cart action.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Like strapped to him.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Full on cart around him.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Second time he saw me, he had sound effects. Like
- 16:43Speaker 6: he had a little radio blasting from his little neck thing.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I think eventually he went inside, but normally he was
- 16:48Speaker 1: just out in the hallway going back and forth. And
- 16:52Speaker 1: I was like, If we had a banana peel right now,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I would still throw it right in front of him.
- 16:56Speaker 6: We had a banana cat.
- 16:57Speaker 1: We should have ran.
- 16:59Speaker 6: And got a banana.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Cat real quick. I don't know what to do with those. Again,
- 17:04Speaker 1: there's many strange arts inside there. There's a banana and
- 17:08Speaker 1: inside it it's peeled and there's a cat coming out.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Geeks come up with crazy things.
- 17:13Speaker 6: Oh, fuck. Look at this Thor.
- 17:16Speaker 1: That is a Thor. He's not smoking, is he?
- 17:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Has he got a cigarette dangling out of him?
- 17:24Speaker 6: I can't tell what that is.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Because I feel like Thor would not smoke.
- 17:30Speaker 6: Is he wearing Velcro shoes?
- 17:31Speaker 2: Probably.
- 17:32Speaker 1: He doesn't know how to tie. Asgard doesn't have laces.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Well, duh. That was a given.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But, I mean, even a god like Thor knows better
- 17:41Speaker 1: than to smoke. So, I mean, it wouldn't even hurt him,
- 17:43Speaker 1: and yet he's got more sense than that. We'll give
- 17:46Speaker 1: him a public service announcement from Captain America explaining how
- 17:50Speaker 1: smoking is bad. Mmkay. okay we also played a game
- 17:55Speaker 1: that has become i i don't know if you guys
- 17:58Speaker 1: will know this i don't think we've discussed it but
- 18:00Speaker 1: i witness it on a very regular occasion many occasions
- 18:05Speaker 1: because as you probably well know we go to conventions
- 18:08Speaker 1: a lot so it's become this game every couple of
- 18:11Speaker 1: weekends where it's how many times will people tell misty
- 18:15Speaker 1: they like.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Her shirt most of the time it's.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You No, I get a couple. I don't get near
- 18:21Speaker 1: as much.
- 18:21Speaker 2: As you do.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Because I have some cool ass shirts.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You have very cool shirts. But it is, like I still,
- 18:27Speaker 1: I see a lot of people with cool shirts going
- 18:28Speaker 1: around these conventions. I never see anyone else like interacting
- 18:32Speaker 1: to the extent that Misty gets her like attention heaped
- 18:35Speaker 1: upon her for her awesomeness of her t-shirts.
- 18:37Speaker 6: That's the purse too. I get the purse recognition.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it opts out depending on which person it is
- 18:43Speaker 1: and what they're hitting as they're viewing you. But I
- 18:46Speaker 1: think I was trying to keep a running total. I
- 18:48Speaker 1: think we got up to about six on the shirt today.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Hell yeah, it's an awesome shirt.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And two on the purse.
- 18:53Speaker 6: It's an awesome purse.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I agree on both.
- 18:55Speaker 6: I'm rocking the Sherlock purse.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Which is pretty standard these days.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Because it's small. I'm thinking about switching it out for
- 19:03Speaker 6: the Misfits shirt. Or the Misfits purse. The Misfits, the
- 19:05Speaker 6: BBC show. Because I fucking love the Misfits. Not the band.
- 19:09Speaker 6: Not big on the band.
- 19:09Speaker 7: Whatever.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Not the band.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I mean, the band's fine. They do it. Again, they
- 19:13Speaker 1: do exactly what they need to do.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Have you ever watched Misfits with Robert Sheehan?
- 19:16Speaker 1: I've had you tell me about it.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Oh, my God. Best show, like, of all time.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I am one move away from Robert Sheehan. I've had
- 19:24Speaker 1: a director of one of his movies on the show, so.
- 19:27Speaker 1: It's awesome. As the Kevin Bacon game goes, I am
- 19:29Speaker 1: one move away from him.
- 19:31Speaker 6: I don't know where it... I just got it in
- 19:33Speaker 6: the mail yesterday, so I had to wash it last night.
- 19:35Speaker 2: My.
- 19:37Speaker 6: My Daria Brain of Lawndale shirt.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Ah, in the true Barbie font.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Only it says brain.
- 19:43Speaker 6: I'm hoping we haven't really been made into cheap plastic imitations.
- 19:48Speaker 6: I'm hoping that I have... a malfunctioning kung fu action
- 19:51Speaker 6: that takes out a kid's eye. I mean, how can
- 19:54Speaker 6: you not love those shirts?
- 19:55Speaker 1: Well, it's Daria. How can you not love Daria?
- 19:57Speaker 6: I was going to wear my Our Lady of Sarcasm shirt,
- 20:01Speaker 6: which I'm sure you've seen before.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 20:03Speaker 6: It has Daria with the whole.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You might as well just have you on it.
- 20:08Speaker 6: I did one of those online quizzes of who are you,
- 20:10Speaker 6: what fictional cartoon character. And I was Daria. I wasn't
- 20:15Speaker 6: cartoon because one of them was a real life person
- 20:17Speaker 6: that Aubrey Plaza plays.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Aubrey Plaza. She's not too far off from.
- 20:21Speaker 6: The real life Daria. And one of the Bob's Burger girls,
- 20:23Speaker 6: but I don't remember which one it was.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I mean, I guess she wasn't wearing bunny ears. I
- 20:28Speaker 1: guess it's the older daughter.
- 20:29Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You do talk about butts a lot.
- 20:32Speaker 8: I do.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You got that going for you.
- 20:35Speaker 6: But uh the guy has an eye patch and i
- 20:37Speaker 6: don't even think it's part of.
- 20:38Speaker 1: His costume hmm go up and poke it and see
- 20:41Speaker 1: what happens lift.
- 20:42Speaker 6: It up it's like the black hole.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Of death maybe he's like grunkle stan.
- 20:48Speaker 6: Maybe he just wears it for effect anyways i was
- 20:51Speaker 6: going to wear my other my r lady of sarcasm
- 20:53Speaker 6: shirt which has like the whole religious looking like daria
- 20:57Speaker 6: like uh daria picture But it didn't match my shoes.
- 21:02Speaker 6: So I wanted to wear these shoes. They're pink and black.
- 21:04Speaker 6: My pink and black chucks, of course.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It would be uncalled for to not match.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Because the shirt had more of an earthy tones color
- 21:10Speaker 6: to it. It had more like browns and oranges and greens.
- 21:12Speaker 6: And I'm like, that's not going to go well with
- 21:13Speaker 6: my pink and black shoes. So I wore the Brain
- 21:16Speaker 6: of Lawndale action figure shirt because it does have the
- 21:19Speaker 6: black and pink colors. So it matches well. And I'm
- 21:22Speaker 6: coordinated like a motherfucker.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I do approve of your color coordination. I do call
- 21:27Speaker 1: people out for that sort of thing quite often.
- 21:28Speaker 6: I would have called myself out. I'd have been like,
- 21:30Speaker 6: do you even see me right now? Come on.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Well, I got one on mine and I was kind
- 21:38Speaker 1: of surprised. Mostly mine today takes too much first observation.
- 21:44Speaker 1: You really kind of have to be paying attention to
- 21:46Speaker 1: even see what's going on on it. And then on
- 21:48Speaker 1: top of that, it's like layers of geekdom, one of
- 21:51Speaker 1: which is really old geekdom. So yeah, I'm rocking it.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Essentially a Nosferatu shirt, but it also happens to have
- 21:59Speaker 1: Scooby and Shaggy on it. Again, if anybody here is
- 22:04Speaker 1: getting the Nosferatu reference, of course, it was an older
- 22:07Speaker 1: guy behind the table, not one of the random kids
- 22:09Speaker 1: in an anime costume, so I'm not surprised by that.
- 22:12Speaker 6: I get a lot of, there are not enough Darius shirts,
- 22:15Speaker 6: and I'm like, there are not.
- 22:16Speaker 1: There are, and they're all in my closet. That's what
- 22:18Speaker 1: you're saying.
- 22:18Speaker 6: I've only got four.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I'm trying to run through the.
- 22:24Speaker 6: Actually, five. I have two of the same ones. I
- 22:26Speaker 6: re-bought one of them in a bigger size because I
- 22:28Speaker 6: got fat.
- 22:29Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 22:30Speaker 6: I bought another of the Antisocial Social Club.
- 22:33Speaker 1: That seems fitting.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Because I love that one.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It seems super fitting today and every day.
- 22:37Speaker 6: It's the black and white one. It has Daria, Trent,
- 22:39Speaker 6: and Jane. And it's like, no, you can't sit with us.
- 22:45Speaker 6: I love that shirt.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And we played that game at lunch. We want to
- 22:49Speaker 1: go into the fact that we ate a nine pound
- 22:52Speaker 1: sandwich for lunch today.
- 22:53Speaker 6: That sandwich was ridiculous. Like, literally, I could not fit
- 22:57Speaker 6: all the sandwich in my face. I'm like, this meat
- 22:59Speaker 6: will not fit.
- 23:00Speaker 1: That was not your phrasing. How did you put it
- 23:02Speaker 1: while we were mid-sandwich?
- 23:03Speaker 6: I don't remember. This is too much meat for my face.
- 23:05Speaker 6: I don't remember.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I believe you said, I can't even fit this sandwich
- 23:08Speaker 1: in my face hole. That's what you said.
- 23:11Speaker 6: That does sound like something I would say.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, I'm not going to argue.
- 23:16Speaker 1: This is a big sandwich.
- 23:17Speaker 6: It was literally like I can't even show you over
- 23:21Speaker 6: the radio.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Look at her hand.
- 23:23Speaker 6: Over the podcast.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Look through your listening device at her hands right now.
- 23:26Speaker 6: We should have taken a picture of it.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we probably should have. But then we'd be one
- 23:30Speaker 1: of those people posting pictures of our food.
- 23:32Speaker 2: That's not cool.
- 23:32Speaker 6: They could have been like the picture that comes with
- 23:34Speaker 6: this episode.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Just a big ass sandwich.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Just go over there and take a picture of the
- 23:39Speaker 6: sandwich window.
- 23:39Speaker 1: There probably is still one in the window there. They're
- 23:41Speaker 1: probably on display proudly in the snack area.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Literally, I could only eat like half of it.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It was so ridiculous. And I mean that in the
- 23:49Speaker 1: best possible way because that's my complaint most of the time.
- 23:52Speaker 6: That guy's wearing two belts and none of them are
- 23:54Speaker 6: used to hold his pants up.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Well, there's just something wrong with that twice. I don't
- 23:58Speaker 1: approve of that.
- 23:59Speaker 6: Shenanigans.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I call shenanigans on that bullshit.
- 24:02Speaker 6: This girl's carrying her second wig on her second head
- 24:05Speaker 6: just in case she needs it for later.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Sometimes you gotta have an extra wig. You gotta have
- 24:09Speaker 1: a backup wig for all occasions.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Okay. Sandwiches massive.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Luckily I keep my wigs numbered for just such an occasion.
- 24:17Speaker 6: This wasn't even like an actual restaurant. This was like
- 24:19Speaker 6: the hallway food.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll go ahead and give them a plug. If
- 24:22Speaker 1: you're in Indy and you happen to hit the Indiana
- 24:25Speaker 1: Convention Center, which is where Indy Popcon is held, head
- 24:29Speaker 1: to the middle area where there's a snack bar type area.
- 24:33Speaker 1: It's a food. It's their own little sort of food court.
- 24:36Speaker 1: It's not even like individual restaurants.
- 24:38Speaker 6: The food courts down the aisle, down the hallways away.
- 24:40Speaker 1: There's a couple of food options, but this is like
- 24:42Speaker 1: the snack bar looking area.
- 24:44Speaker 6: This is the most generic looking one because there's no like.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Again, it looks more like old school snack bar, not
- 24:48Speaker 1: like individual restaurants like a lot of food courts will
- 24:50Speaker 1: be now. This one looks like the one that like
- 24:52Speaker 1: used to be in any convention center like 20, 30
- 24:55Speaker 1: years ago. But there is a giant pretzel back there.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Just look for a giant pretzel. I'm sure you'll be
- 25:00Speaker 1: right there. But yeah, they have a nine pound sandwich
- 25:04Speaker 1: and it looks like a, A sheet cake, essentially. And then, like,
- 25:08Speaker 1: if you're like me, you'll be annoyed that there are
- 25:09Speaker 1: tomatoes and you'll kick them off.
- 25:10Speaker 6: There's the demon with the horns that I'm talking about
- 25:12Speaker 6: that we always see and I have no idea what
- 25:13Speaker 6: it is, but I recognize it from every fucking convention.
- 25:15Speaker 1: We go to now. Go grab her by the horns.
- 25:18Speaker 6: She almost tripped over her own feet.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Jump on her back, grab her by the horns and
- 25:21Speaker 1: ride around this place. That would be pretty entertaining. That
- 25:24Speaker 1: would be a reason to get the camera out.
- 25:25Speaker 6: And then be like, while shouting, who are you?
- 25:29Speaker 3: What are you from?
- 25:29Speaker 1: I don't know your reference.
- 25:33Speaker 6: I don't get your fandom.
- 25:34Speaker 1: What is it? And then they would kick you out
- 25:36Speaker 1: of a geeky fandom convention. You must know all fandoms,
- 25:40Speaker 1: which is obviously not true because I wouldn't be able
- 25:43Speaker 1: to leave the house. There's too many fandoms at this point.
- 25:45Speaker 2: I support them all.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I have my favorites, so everybody can do their thing,
- 25:48Speaker 1: but I can't keep up.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Except furries. Those are just weird.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Which ones?
- 25:52Speaker 6: Furries.
- 25:54Speaker 1: No, no. They can do their own thing. I mean,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I don't necessarily need it on me.
- 25:58Speaker 6: How many Thors did we see today, by the way?
- 26:00Speaker 6: I saw at least four. I was like, we just
- 26:02Speaker 6: saw another one walk by.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I mean, I kind of lose track because they all
- 26:05Speaker 1: just become a random Thor passing by and I don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: even like associate.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Their face enough.
- 26:09Speaker 1: That one Thor was pretty good.
- 26:10Speaker 6: That one Thor, the Ragnarok Thor was pretty decent.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, we also saw the go-to... For
- 26:18Speaker 1: any old white haired dude at any geek convention.
- 26:21Speaker 6: We literally see somebody in this outfit every time we
- 26:24Speaker 6: go to a convention now.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And for a while it was the same dude. Because
- 26:28Speaker 1: we kept, I guess they were close enough that we
- 26:30Speaker 1: kept hitting the same dumb conventions this crazy old man did.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So dressed as Spare No Expense from Jurassic Park. You
- 26:37Speaker 1: get Richard Attenborough from Jurassic Park in full white suit
- 26:41Speaker 1: with the cane, with the amber. Like it's just full
- 26:45Speaker 1: on old guy geekery. But then, now granted, we have
- 26:50Speaker 1: seen that one multiple times in the past.
- 26:52Speaker 6: But it's different people now.
- 26:53Speaker 1: This was a different one, though. Yeah, this was not
- 26:55Speaker 1: the same guy in the past. We've seen him like
- 26:56Speaker 1: a couple of years ago. We started seeing him over
- 26:58Speaker 1: and over. But this was a different guy doing it.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So another old white haired dude got the idea and
- 27:03Speaker 1: decided to put together his outfit. But then we saw
- 27:06Speaker 1: the variation. If you're an old white haired dude and
- 27:09Speaker 1: you want to come out to a convention of pop
- 27:10Speaker 1: culture and geekery. So if you're an old guy and
- 27:13Speaker 1: you want to, you know, come get involved in some
- 27:16Speaker 1: pop culture geek action. This was the new one. We
- 27:19Speaker 1: saw Colonel Sanders today.
- 27:21Speaker 6: We did.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Carrying a bucket of chicken.
- 27:23Speaker 6: Like he's in the wrong fucking state.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Well, he was close. He was adjacent. There it goes.
- 27:28Speaker 1: There it goes.
- 27:29Speaker 7: Uh-oh.
- 27:30Speaker 1: There is the lizard girl thing. Lizard dragon.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Is she with a Medusa? Is it a Medusa she's with?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 27:36Speaker 1: So if you look at Medusa, she turns you to
- 27:39Speaker 1: a lizard thing?
- 27:40Speaker 6: She turns you into stone.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I know. That's what I thought. But according to the
- 27:45Speaker 1: two of them, Or maybe this lizard looks at you
- 27:48Speaker 1: and turns you.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Into a Medusa. And you've got to spend the entire
- 27:50Speaker 6: day carrying your tail around. It's like, you can't pick
- 27:52Speaker 6: anything up or look at anything.
- 27:54Speaker 1: But yeah, to me, I will even argue he might
- 27:57Speaker 1: be in the wrong state, but Colonel Sanders is beloved
- 28:01Speaker 1: the world over.
- 28:02Speaker 6: He is.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Everywhere in the world, not just America. We've taken over
- 28:07Speaker 1: so many other.
- 28:07Speaker 6: As long as it's not the Reba version, because I
- 28:09Speaker 6: fucking hate the Reba version.
- 28:10Speaker 1: The George Hamilton version.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Even that's more tolerable than the Reba McIntyre version.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Well, I think they just did that to... I mean,
- 28:17Speaker 1: all of it. I have to give them points that
- 28:19Speaker 1: the whole approach to this advertising campaign was to mess
- 28:24Speaker 1: with people.
- 28:25Speaker 6: You see what's walking this way?
- 28:26Speaker 1: A reading rainbow?
- 28:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Someone is dressed like a giant book that says Reading
- 28:33Speaker 1: Rainbow and has a rainbow.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Take a look. It's in a book. It's Reading Rainbow.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That sounds a lot like reading. I think we've covered
- 28:41Speaker 1: my illiteracy in the past.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Pop-up books.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Oh, my God. You saw one.
- 28:46Speaker 6: It was a weird pop-up book, though. It wasn't like
- 28:47Speaker 6: a regular one.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It was like circular. I know. It was strange. We
- 28:50Speaker 1: should go get that girl and have her pitch her
- 28:52Speaker 1: pop-up book to these people because you talk about them
- 28:54Speaker 1: so much.
- 28:55Speaker 5: I do.
- 28:56Speaker 1: We need to find her and pin her down.
- 28:58Speaker 6: It's a good thing she didn't try to start a
- 28:59Speaker 6: conversation because when I would have followed through with, is
- 29:01Speaker 6: it a pop-up book? And she'd have been like, yes.
- 29:03Speaker 6: And I'd have been like, aw, shit.
- 29:04Speaker 1: She would have shut you down. You'd be like, aw.
- 29:07Speaker 6: That's always my excuse for not buying anybody's book because
- 29:10Speaker 6: I'm like, is it a pop-up book? Well, no then.
- 29:12Speaker 6: I mean. I'd have had to spend $ 30 on a book.
- 29:14Speaker 1: You did get Lance Hendrickson on your side.
- 29:17Speaker 6: He gave me a high five.
- 29:18Speaker 1: When you ask him if his book that he had
- 29:21Speaker 1: written about himself, if it was a pop-up book, he
- 29:25Speaker 1: was like, no, but I guess I should come. He
- 29:28Speaker 1: was really like, he was taking it back. He was like,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you know, I really am letting people down in the
- 29:32Speaker 1: pop-up area. And he high-fived you and like, you guys
- 29:35Speaker 1: are bonded for life now.
- 29:37Speaker 6: We're besties.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I think so.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I'd like to think so. that.
- 29:40Speaker 6: Me too. But I like to think a lot of
- 29:42Speaker 6: weird things.
- 29:42Speaker 1: That's true as well. On that note, maybe it's time
- 29:46Speaker 1: for another nine-pound sandwich.
- 29:48Speaker 6: I can't even, dude. I'm still hungry.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Let's go take our break and go over there and
- 29:52Speaker 1: like ogle the sandwich business. window there.
- 29:55Speaker 6: They're cleaning it up now. There's no more sandwiches left.
- 29:57Speaker 1: But how am I going to go drool on the
- 29:59Speaker 1: sneeze guard and look at all their fancy 19 pound sandwiches?
- 30:04Speaker 6: It's all gone. Dilly dallyed.
- 30:07Speaker 1: I'm going to eat that giant pretzel that's on top
- 30:09Speaker 1: of the machine back there. It's plastic, but it looks
- 30:12Speaker 1: really cool from here. Alright, let's go get a pickle
- 30:17Speaker 1: and we'll be back. Pickle Rick!
- 30:19Speaker 7: Something different for a change? Then try the perfect refreshment.
- 30:24Speaker 7: Chili Dilly, a delicious pickle treat that's spiced just right
- 30:28Speaker 7: for every bite. Economical, too. There's no waste. You eat
- 30:32Speaker 7: every bit of the juicy goodness of Chili Dilly. How
- 30:36Speaker 7: about trying one right now? Chili Dilly. On sale at
- 30:40Speaker 7: our concession stand. You'll love them.
- 30:43Speaker 4: The only night is when people play tricks on each other.
- 30:46Speaker 7: What about the boogeyman?
- 30:47Speaker 4: Death has come to.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Your little town, Sharon. Seasons don't feel right.
- 30:53Speaker 4: But through the wind, the sun, and the rain, we
- 30:56Speaker 4: can be happy.
- 30:58Speaker 7: Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 30:59Speaker 1: What's the boogeyman? Donald Pleasence.
- 31:01Speaker 4: As a matter of fact, it was.
- 31:03Speaker 1: In a film by John Carpenter.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Oh, no.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Halloween. Hey, Sterling. What's up? You like coffee.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I do like coffee.
- 31:15Speaker 1: In fact, we're drinking coffee right now.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Funny enough, we are.
- 31:18Speaker 1: You know where you should get your coffee? Where should
- 31:21Speaker 1: I get my coffee? I think you should go to
- 31:23Speaker 1: Heine Brothers and get your coffee. Heine Brothers?
- 31:25Speaker 3: I think I used to work there.
- 31:26Speaker 1: You probably did. A lot of people in this town. Well,
- 31:29Speaker 1: that's what Louisville is. They're kind of like taking over. Actually,
- 31:33Speaker 1: driving this past week, there was a place that used
- 31:36Speaker 1: to be. I won't even out them as the failed
- 31:39Speaker 1: massive franchise that they are. But they had this place,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and it was sitting next to the road, and they
- 31:44Speaker 1: sold coffee, and now suddenly they're gone.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Actually, I think I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 31:49Speaker 1: I just noticed it this week, and now they're gone.
- 31:51Speaker 1: It's empty, but it's already painted up with the Heine
- 31:54Speaker 1: Brothers sign. Coming soon, another Heine Brothers location.
- 31:58Speaker 3: You know, you say they're taking over. I say they're
- 32:00Speaker 3: our number one community coffee.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Just saying they are. And I mean that literally.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I mean, that is kind of why I'm like, you know,
- 32:08Speaker 1: it is interesting how much they've continued to spread and
- 32:13Speaker 1: become super successful, but yet they're completely independent. They were started.
- 32:19Speaker 1: out of this town by a couple of guys and
- 32:22Speaker 1: they came up with this process and this general idea
- 32:25Speaker 1: of what they wanted to create.
- 32:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And it's kind of cool that it's been accepted by
- 32:29Speaker 1: people and like people signed on and like, not only
- 32:32Speaker 1: do we like your coffee, but we like the idea
- 32:34Speaker 1: of this little community that you've created around this coffee
- 32:38Speaker 1: shop and this series of now many coffee shops.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Sure.
- 32:42Speaker 3: And moreover, Mike Mays, you know, one of our prominent
- 32:44Speaker 3: leading businessmen in the, in the community. And I, one
- 32:46Speaker 3: thing I can definitely say is that, you know, Heine
- 32:48Speaker 3: Brothers has, like many local businesses, been deeply involved in
- 32:52Speaker 3: charity work and stuff around town, and that's great. But
- 32:55Speaker 3: the thing I like most about buying Heine Brothers coffee,
- 32:58Speaker 3: if you don't mind me saying, is the fact that
- 33:01Speaker 3: I know that the person behind the counter that's getting
- 33:03Speaker 3: paid with the wage from this, like my first job
- 33:06Speaker 3: when I got to Louisville was working at Heine Brothers.
- 33:09Speaker 3: their first job out of college or in college or
- 33:12Speaker 3: whatever is working at Heine Brothers.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Creating Heine Brothers. Yeah, exactly.
- 33:16Speaker 3: So to my mind, the nice thing is just you
- 33:18Speaker 3: knowing that you're talking to people who are going through
- 33:21Speaker 3: a cycle that I think is actually part of the
- 33:23Speaker 3: common life that we have here in town.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And I was talking with a couple of recent guests.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I mentioned that's one of the cool things that's happened
- 33:32Speaker 1: this past year or so is that they came on
- 33:35Speaker 1: board and they were like, even people outside of our
- 33:38Speaker 1: town were just like, wow, that's really cool. And that's
- 33:41Speaker 1: one of the things I think is really impressive is
- 33:43Speaker 1: that they've gotten to this point. They're a successful local business.
- 33:47Speaker 1: They've branched out and done more and more and have
- 33:50Speaker 1: helped not just charities, but you see them giving back
- 33:53Speaker 1: to other people, like other independent operations. Like, I don't know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: movie meltdown. They like couldn't exit. Well, that's the thing.
- 34:02Speaker 1: There's so many people I've gone to over the years
- 34:04Speaker 1: trying to keep this show running and that like, great job. Well,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I just won't hear back from, or people have like
- 34:11Speaker 1: come on, gotten involved and then disappeared really quickly. And
- 34:14Speaker 1: like the fact that they came on board and have
- 34:18Speaker 1: continued to support us is like a really big thing.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And I've even started to see them doing it with
- 34:24Speaker 1: other shows. And I'm like, I don't think that's a
- 34:25Speaker 1: bad thing. Like I'm like, cool. Like, seek out these
- 34:29Speaker 1: new different places to, you know, not just advertise yourself,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but to also in doing that, you're supporting these independent
- 34:37Speaker 1: artists and operations that are trying to do something outside
- 34:40Speaker 1: of the norm. And normally bigger businesses won't have anything
- 34:44Speaker 1: to do with that unless it's cut and dried the
- 34:46Speaker 1: generic way that we've always done advertising or, However we
- 34:50Speaker 1: spread the word about our business, we only go through
- 34:53Speaker 1: newspaper ads because that's what the kids read today.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Well, and that's actually incredibly vital, especially for those of
- 34:59Speaker 3: us like yourself and myself who are part of the
- 35:01Speaker 3: independent arts community.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'd like to think that.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Would you mind if I stuck in a promo myself?
- 35:07Speaker 6: Feel free.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Well, speaking as a member of the independent arts community,
- 35:12Speaker 3: the theater community to be specific, which also thrives on
- 35:15Speaker 3: Non-traditional businesses giving us their okay to slap a logo
- 35:19Speaker 3: on a program for a show that you've never heard of.
- 35:25Speaker 3: I'll be working with the Alley Theater once again, bringing
- 35:28Speaker 3: back our Star Trek boldly going way too far.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Way too far.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Again.
- 35:33Speaker 3: This will be the third mounting of the show that
- 35:36Speaker 3: we premiered and originated about four years ago, I think
- 35:42Speaker 3: at this point. which is kind of amazing because it's
- 35:44Speaker 3: a freewheeling, exciting thing. We first threw it together in
- 35:47Speaker 3: like a couple of months to put it on, but
- 35:50Speaker 3: it'll be coming back this July, the 12th through the 28th,
- 35:54Speaker 3: I believe. So mark your calendars. It is an exciting
- 35:57Speaker 3: show where we take an adventure through all the different
- 36:00Speaker 3: series of the franchise and throw in some references and
- 36:04Speaker 3: some jokes about other franchises as well. And it's really
- 36:06Speaker 3: not only a, celebration of Star Trek and all things
- 36:09Speaker 3: Star Trek, but also of the weirdness and goofiness that's fundamental,
- 36:13Speaker 3: in my opinion, to the show. And not only is
- 36:15Speaker 3: that the case, but also, if you arrive and if
- 36:19Speaker 3: you are selected to be one of the unlucky few,
- 36:21Speaker 3: you too can come up on stage and be a
- 36:24Speaker 3: red shirt. You will be given a red shirt and
- 36:27Speaker 3: the job of dying to defend one of the more
- 36:29Speaker 3: important cast members... before the scene is done.
- 36:33Speaker 1: It's not going to end well when you put on
- 36:34Speaker 1: the red shirt. No, it won't.
- 36:36Speaker 3: But, you know, as a friend of mine once said,
- 36:38Speaker 3: hypothetical scenario, space is being traversed by the human race,
- 36:43Speaker 3: and we're traveling to new planets every day, and they
- 36:46Speaker 3: say to you, you too can join Starfleet, and they offer.
- 36:50Speaker 1: You a red shirt.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Would you say yes? The truth is, I think most
- 36:54Speaker 3: of us, dear listener, would indeed say yes, if it
- 36:58Speaker 3: meant that we got to be on the bridge of
- 36:59Speaker 3: the Enterprise.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Or it'd be like, I'd have to get up and
- 37:06Speaker 1: leave the house. I'm connected on the internet to everything
- 37:10Speaker 1: I need.
- 37:10Speaker 3: The 23rd century is no place for slackers.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I don't want to have to go out on adventures.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That seems like a lot of work. Adventures are.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Now you're talking like a 21st century geek.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. That's what I keep seeing our society do.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It's just like, eh, I don't want to leave the house.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Eventually, yeah, eventually that's going to be all of our
- 37:30Speaker 3: pop culture heroes. They're not going to be the people
- 37:31Speaker 3: who are like, oh, heck yeah, I want to go
- 37:33Speaker 3: on an adventure. They're going to be like the people
- 37:35Speaker 3: who are like, oh, man, do I have to defeat
- 37:36Speaker 3: the Dark Lord?
- 37:37Speaker 1: I think it'll be more like, I'm going to put
- 37:38Speaker 1: this headset on and like. go and digitally take.
- 37:42Speaker 3: On the universe from right here on my sofa. Dude,
- 37:44Speaker 3: I think we've given Ready Player One way too much
- 37:46Speaker 3: of our time, okay?
- 37:49Speaker 1: So all that having been said, I think you should
- 37:53Speaker 1: go to hineybrothers.com slash subscription and sign up for the
- 37:57Speaker 1: coffee subscription. And that way you don't even have to
- 37:59Speaker 1: live down the street from that new one that they're building.
- 38:02Speaker 1: You actually can live wherever you want across the country.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Maybe even other countries. You should check the website. But yeah,
- 38:09Speaker 1: that way you can have coffee delivered to your door
- 38:12Speaker 1: and you don't have to do anything.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Fabulous.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Like everybody in this society seems to want to do.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Just kind of hang out at their house.
- 38:17Speaker 3: That's certainly the image we're painting of it right now.
- 38:19Speaker 1: You can just hang out.
- 38:20Speaker 3: As we sit on my couch.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Watch cool videos on your YouTube and drink your coffee
- 38:23Speaker 1: that's delivered right to your porch. What else do you want?
- 38:27Speaker 1: So yeah, just if you can't spell Heine... Again, maybe
- 38:29Speaker 1: you're not from this town. You don't know how they
- 38:31Speaker 1: spell Heine Brothers.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Just ask a local.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Just go to moviemeltdown.com. Right there on the right hand
- 38:36Speaker 1: side of the page. Yeah, that too.
- 38:37Speaker 7: There's a.
- 38:38Speaker 6: button.
- 38:38Speaker 1: There's a little logo that says Heine Brothers Coffee. You
- 38:41Speaker 1: click on that, it'll take you right to the website.
- 38:43Speaker 1: And then, when you're there, more importantly, you use the
- 38:46Speaker 1: code MELTDOWN and you get $ 5 off your order. And
- 38:49Speaker 1: that's what we're doing for you. Again, we're trying to
- 38:51Speaker 1: give back to you.
- 38:52Speaker 3: I'd buy that for a dollar.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Five of them. You'll have five extra ones once you
- 38:57Speaker 1: use this code. Meltdown. And from there, you can sit
- 39:02Speaker 1: and have extra money to invest in your online internet obsession.
- 39:07Speaker 3: So, for instance, if you happen to stumble onto a
- 39:10Speaker 3: Patreon page for a particular podcast.
- 39:12Speaker 1: You know, I'm not going to say Movie Meltdown slash Patreon.
- 39:16Speaker 3: But it's a circular business model, and it would really
- 39:18Speaker 3: be great if the money that you save thanks to
- 39:21Speaker 3: this podcast also goes into... this podcast. Sorry, that's not Mr.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Meltdown over here proclaiming this. I'm just a random guy.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say patreon.com slash movie meltdown but you
- 39:32Speaker 1: know if you accidentally went there or the link to
- 39:35Speaker 1: that that's on that same right hand side i'm not
- 39:37Speaker 1: gonna tell you not to give money to a certain
- 39:40Speaker 1: movie on patreon page that's you know surviving only by
- 39:44Speaker 1: you guys and the wonderful people at Heine Brothers so
- 39:47Speaker 1: this is the only way we survive is help from
- 39:50Speaker 1: other people and that's how you build an awesome artistic
- 39:53Speaker 1: community of people using the funds that are created through
- 39:58Speaker 1: whatever you do and then giving it back to other
- 40:01Speaker 1: people to do other cool interesting things and then it
- 40:04Speaker 1: becomes a circle and we all we support those businesses
- 40:07Speaker 1: that support the independent cool stuff like Heine Brothers yeah
- 40:09Speaker 1: so it all it all comes full circle so I'm
- 40:11Speaker 1: just saying go do all of that Wow, that was
- 40:14Speaker 1: a great promo. Go there right now. I'm going to
- 40:21Speaker 1: drink some more coffee. There's my coffee mug right there. Hey,
- 40:50Speaker 1: this is Phil Lamar and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Oh man, I shot Marvin in the face. Why the
- 40:54Speaker 1: fuck'd you do that?
- 40:55Speaker 4: I didn't mean to do it, it was an accident.
- 41:12Speaker 2: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 41:16Speaker 2: enough movies.
- 41:17Speaker 4: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies. And now,
- 41:21Speaker 4: on with the show.
- 41:25Speaker 9: Boom!
- 41:26Speaker 1: Big reveal.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I'm a pickle.
- 41:27Speaker 10: What do you think about that? I turned myself into
- 41:29Speaker 10: a pickle! What are you just staring at me for, bro?
- 41:32Speaker 10: I turned myself into a pickle, Morty.
- 41:35Speaker 4: And?
- 41:35Speaker 1: And.
- 41:36Speaker 10: What more do you want tacked onto this? I turned
- 41:37Speaker 10: myself into a pickle and 9-11 was an inside job?
- 41:40Speaker 1: Was it? Who cares, Morty?
- 41:41Speaker 10: Global acts of terrorism happen every day. Here's something that's
- 41:44Speaker 10: never happened before.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I'm a pickle.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Pickle Rick!
- 41:48Speaker 6: I'm Pickle Rick! we did see somebody wearing.
- 41:50Speaker 1: We're wearing Pickle Rick's we saw today. Oh my god,
- 41:52Speaker 1: it's crazy.
- 41:54Speaker 6: Only one in the full-fledged costume.
- 41:56Speaker 1: But that one was really good.
- 41:57Speaker 6: That was like the full-on evolved Pickle Rick of like,
- 42:00Speaker 6: here's another one of those fucking things with the horns
- 42:03Speaker 6: that I have no idea what it is.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Grabber and rider. Just saying.
- 42:07Speaker 6: Got little nubby horns. They look more like candy corns.
- 42:11Speaker 1: The other horns were way more impressive. The other horny girl.
- 42:14Speaker 6: I can't tell if this girl behind them is with
- 42:15Speaker 6: them and she's just too slow in her heels so
- 42:17Speaker 6: they're just like.
- 42:18Speaker 1: But she's walking with attitude, I have to say. She's
- 42:22Speaker 1: definitely got attitude.
- 42:23Speaker 6: If you have heels like that, you walk with attitude.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And a cool purple coat. I mean, that coat's bitchin'.
- 42:30Speaker 1: She looks like she is with them, but she's like
- 42:32Speaker 1: too cool to walk with them. And I kind of agree. Like,
- 42:35Speaker 1: just based on the attitude alone, I'm kind of impressed. Yeah,
- 42:38Speaker 1: that dork in front. No, no. She's like bouncing around
- 42:41Speaker 1: and vibrating. She's not cool at all. But the chick
- 42:43Speaker 1: in the back who's just kind of cruising, she's cool. So, Misty.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I'd say, have you seen any movies lately? But as
- 42:51Speaker 1: we decided on the ride up here, you haven't watched anything.
- 42:54Speaker 7: What?
- 42:54Speaker 6: We decided I did watch a movie, but I couldn't
- 42:56Speaker 6: remember if we actually discussed it on the podcast or not.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I don't think we had. I think last time we
- 43:01Speaker 1: were going to watch it for the show, but I'd
- 43:04Speaker 1: already seen it and you hadn't. So instead we opted
- 43:06Speaker 1: for something else. And then since then you've watched it.
- 43:09Speaker 6: So what is this movie? I, rolling it all in
- 43:13Speaker 6: to what we've seen today, I've seen Thor Ragnarok.
- 43:16Speaker 1: We've discussed it, but we have not had the Misty
- 43:18Speaker 1: take on it. What is your take on Thor Ragnarok?
- 43:20Speaker 6: I thought it was awesome. I loved it. I thought
- 43:23Speaker 6: it was hilarious. It was definitely more, because it seems
- 43:26Speaker 6: like for a while Thor was kind of taking himself
- 43:28Speaker 6: a little bit too serious.
- 43:29Speaker 1: And by that you mean Thor 1 and Thor 2.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:32Speaker 1: He's pretty fun in the Avengers movies.
- 43:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Not so much in his solo movies. First two. Oh, no, no, no.
- 43:37Speaker 1: This one on the other hand.
- 43:38Speaker 6: This one was just buckets of fucking laughs. In the
- 43:40Speaker 6: beginning when he's chained up, holy shit sticks.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Let me work my way back around. That was fucking hilarious.
- 43:46Speaker 6: This whole movie is fucking hilarious. From beginning to end,
- 43:51Speaker 6: I laughed. I love Cate Blanchett.
- 43:55Speaker 1: She's pretty awesome.
- 43:55Speaker 6: I can't even say her name right. Cate Blanchett. Blanchett. Blanchett.
- 43:58Speaker 1: I don't know. Cate Blanchett.
- 44:00Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 44:01Speaker 1: She's gorgeous. She's super... As stated on our several nominations
- 44:07Speaker 1: for hottest dude and or chick, except that's not how
- 44:11Speaker 1: it's worded anymore because that would be inappropriate. But for
- 44:13Speaker 1: people that wrote in, for people that they're into, more
- 44:18Speaker 1: than one wrote in specifically referencing they like a chick
- 44:21Speaker 1: with antlers. Today is kind of the place. I mean,
- 44:24Speaker 1: this is the place to be if you like girls
- 44:26Speaker 1: with horns and antlers and whatnot.
- 44:28Speaker 6: That is one we've never seen a cosplay of.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like it would be massively complicated.
- 44:33Speaker 6: How many half-assed Lokis did we see today?
- 44:37Speaker 1: One really half-assed one. Which you know I approve of
- 44:40Speaker 1: a half-assed costume.
- 44:41Speaker 6: Well, he had the helmet. He had the jacket. And
- 44:44Speaker 6: he was wearing t-shirts. He was wearing a t-shirt. And
- 44:48Speaker 6: were they like dress slacks? Or were they like... I
- 44:51Speaker 6: don't know.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Wasn't he wearing tennis shoes?
- 44:53Speaker 6: He was wearing tennis shoes. I was going for the pants.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Was he wearing slacks or was he wearing sweatpants? I
- 44:58Speaker 6: don't even remember. But he was wearing tennis shoes.
- 45:00Speaker 1: It was so half-assed. It was perfect.
- 45:02Speaker 6: He was wearing the helmet and the jacket and then
- 45:04Speaker 6: you get to the fucking shoes. And I'm like, come on.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And everything else. As long as you didn't look inside
- 45:10Speaker 1: the jacket, you were fine.
- 45:12Speaker 6: Then at least button the jacket up. Secure that shit.
- 45:16Speaker 1: No, no. That's not how it goes.
- 45:18Speaker 6: Obviously. but yeah i watched like i said it was
- 45:21Speaker 6: just it was fun for the whole family giggles were
- 45:23Speaker 6: head i mean jeff goldblum is ridiculous except.
- 45:26Speaker 1: That it's not like i think i remember pointing this
- 45:28Speaker 1: out like i don't even know i mean we talked
- 45:30Speaker 1: about a little during our episode but i think it
- 45:32Speaker 1: didn't hit me till afterwards i was like looking back
- 45:35Speaker 1: i'm like and it's also super serious like there's the
- 45:38Speaker 1: whole valkyries flashback and then there's the battle at the
- 45:42Speaker 1: end and people are dying and I'm like it works
- 45:45Speaker 1: so well because it ends up like kind of having
- 45:47Speaker 1: stakes and like you do get invested in the like
- 45:50Speaker 1: serious battle stuff that's going on at the end but
- 45:53Speaker 1: like the whole rest of it is so much fun
- 45:56Speaker 1: and so light that it's like it's amazing and points
- 45:59Speaker 1: to a director because again he's normally like more comedic
- 46:03Speaker 1: but he found a great way to balance the heavy
- 46:06Speaker 1: stuff too. I think it works on both ends and
- 46:08Speaker 1: that's really hard to do if you ask me.
- 46:11Speaker 6: But yeah, I loved it. Two and a half thumbs up.
- 46:13Speaker 6: If I had more thumbs, I would give it more thumbs.
- 46:15Speaker 1: You grafted on an extra half a thumb.
- 46:17Speaker 6: I did.
- 46:18Speaker 8: It's a skill.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I don't think anyone would notice here, actually.
- 46:21Speaker 6: Aside from that, I didn't really watch anything, which brings
- 46:23Speaker 6: us to what we were talking about things that we watched.
- 46:26Speaker 6: We watched trailers.
- 46:27Speaker 1: We did watch a lot of trailers. Because trailers are awesome.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Trailers are something. Sometimes I have issues with them because
- 46:36Speaker 1: they just spell out the whole damn movie, and I
- 46:39Speaker 1: think there is an art to making a good trailer,
- 46:41Speaker 1: and sometimes the people involved in making the trailers don't
- 46:44Speaker 1: bother with that art.
- 46:46Speaker 6: The trailer that I'm getting ready to speak of first,
- 46:49Speaker 6: I still have no fucking clue what's going on, so
- 46:50Speaker 6: I think they did a pretty good job, because I
- 46:52Speaker 6: find it very interesting, and I want to know what's
- 46:54Speaker 6: going on. I don't feel like it spilled the whole
- 46:56Speaker 6: movie for me.
- 46:57Speaker 1: No, no, no. Not Hot Thor. I'm assuming you're talking
- 47:00Speaker 1: about Hot Thor movie.
- 47:01Speaker 6: Oh, I'm talking about Hot Thor movie. Bad Times at
- 47:04Speaker 6: the El Royale?
- 47:06Speaker 1: With cheese. Oh wait, I keep adding the Royale with
- 47:08Speaker 1: cheese part.
- 47:10Speaker 6: That's how I remember what the name of the movie was.
- 47:12Speaker 6: Bad Times at the El Royale? Is that right?
- 47:15Speaker 1: Let me make sure. Hold on.
- 47:18Speaker 6: Bad Times at the El Royale. The only downside that
- 47:22Speaker 6: I could see to this movie thus far was that
- 47:23Speaker 6: it had Dakota Johnson and I cannot stand Dakota Johnson.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that is like just a weak spot in the
- 47:31Speaker 1: armor on every new movie coming out these days.
- 47:34Speaker 6: And sometimes it seems more tolerable than other because the
- 47:37Speaker 6: other one that I'm going to bitch about in a
- 47:38Speaker 6: few minutes just seems unforgivable. But this one I think
- 47:41Speaker 6: has enough people to make up for it because this
- 47:43Speaker 6: one just seems so entertaining. Watching the trailer, it seemed
- 47:47Speaker 6: like it had a tad bit of like, not that
- 47:51Speaker 6: it's very Lynchian in that he did it, but Lynchian
- 47:55Speaker 6: is in somebody who watched a lot of his movies.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that was my take. I was like, some kid
- 47:59Speaker 1: grew up watching David Lynch and then was just like,
- 48:01Speaker 1: want to make a movie and like you can just
- 48:03Speaker 1: feel the lynch oozing in around the edges from the.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Same director who did cabin in the woods yeah which
- 48:10Speaker 6: i love.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Which is definitely again like steeped in its own weird
- 48:13Speaker 1: pop culture so like it obviously yeah it's influenced by
- 48:18Speaker 1: so much that came before it so yep gonna get
- 48:21Speaker 1: the rest of the lineup for you uh it is
- 48:25Speaker 1: chris hemsworth dakota johnson john ham Nick Offerman, Jeff.
- 48:30Speaker 6: Bridges, etc., etc.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Other random people, most of which are not, are kind
- 48:38Speaker 1: of recognizable, but just those main people.
- 48:41Speaker 6: Who's the bellhop boy, the desk clerk? He seemed familiar
- 48:43Speaker 6: to me, too.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Lewis Pullman?
- 48:47Speaker 6: What has he done?
- 48:47Speaker 1: I don't know. I can follow down that rabbit hole
- 48:51Speaker 1: if you'd like.
- 48:52Speaker 6: I'm good.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Anyway, this trailer looks pretty damn good. Visually impressive.
- 48:59Speaker 6: Aside from Dakota Johnson.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Aside from Dakota. You have to squint and block out
- 49:04Speaker 1: Dakota Johnson as much as possible, just like most areas
- 49:07Speaker 1: of your life, I assume. It just kind of looks
- 49:13Speaker 1: cool in general. For the most part, it's all the
- 49:16Speaker 1: other stars and you don't... really see much of a
- 49:21Speaker 1: certain star. And then all of a sudden, it cuts
- 49:23Speaker 1: to a couple of different shots of Super Hathor.
- 49:28Speaker 6: Which blew my mind, because I mean, I've always... When
- 49:31Speaker 6: I watch the Thor movies or the Avenger movies, it's
- 49:34Speaker 6: always been about Loki.
- 49:36Speaker 1: That is sort of your thing. You are a Loki girl.
- 49:38Speaker 6: Which is weird because Tom Hiddleston, I could not give
- 49:41Speaker 6: a shit less about. Like him out of.
- 49:43Speaker 1: In the real world.
- 49:44Speaker 6: Like him in the real world.
- 49:45Speaker 1: In his normal dorky Britishness.
- 49:46Speaker 6: I just could not fucking possibly care less. I'm just like, ugh,
- 49:50Speaker 6: Tom Hiddleston. But I love Loki. All the movies are
- 49:54Speaker 6: all about Loki. But then there's a couple scenes in
- 49:57Speaker 6: this trailer for Bad Times at the El Royale where
- 50:00Speaker 6: Chris Hemsworth comes out and I'm like, Holy shit. Where
- 50:03Speaker 6: the fuck did this come from? I totally get it now.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I hate to tell you, he's kind of been super
- 50:07Speaker 1: hot for several years now. Maybe his whole life, but
- 50:10Speaker 1: certainly he's gotten ripped for several years.
- 50:12Speaker 6: First of all, him doing whatever wiggly dance he was doing.
- 50:14Speaker 1: He's doing a very specific wiggly dance in a bar
- 50:17Speaker 1: type setting, it looks like. I haven't seen the movie yet,
- 50:20Speaker 1: just the trailer.
- 50:21Speaker 6: So hot. And then there's a shot of him in
- 50:24Speaker 6: a field.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the field shot's the one that does it for me.
- 50:26Speaker 1: And I mean, granted, this is also Pride Weekend. I
- 50:30Speaker 1: still claim to be straight, but I'm just like, God damn,
- 50:33Speaker 1: that shot of him out in the field. I'm just like,
- 50:35Speaker 1: you know, girls, I'm on board with you. Guys as well.
- 50:39Speaker 1: You can't fight that. It's Harlequin romance novel cover material.
- 50:44Speaker 1: It is that airbrushed and pretty looking.
- 50:46Speaker 6: What is this line that just showed up out of nowhere?
- 50:48Speaker 1: I don't know, but we're almost in it. It's almost
- 50:50Speaker 1: backing up to us right now.
- 50:52Speaker 6: A line just magically appeared out of nowhere.
- 50:55Speaker 1: That girl with the tails in it. Look at her.
- 50:57Speaker 6: Anyways yes i said i'd know like i said i've
- 51:00Speaker 6: always i've always liked chris hemsworth oh yeah he's i've
- 51:03Speaker 6: never not i mean i've always just like he seems
- 51:05Speaker 6: like a nice guy.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Mostly in the real world like again i didn't love
- 51:08Speaker 1: the solo thor movies until ragnarok i loved cabin in
- 51:10Speaker 1: the woods i think he's super fun in in the
- 51:13Speaker 1: avengers movie i feel like that's where he started to
- 51:15Speaker 1: kind of get his personality like i didn't know that
- 51:17Speaker 1: much about him before he showed up in avengers and
- 51:20Speaker 1: i'm like okay now he looks like he's having fun
- 51:22Speaker 1: and then i started to see like interviews with him
- 51:24Speaker 1: i'm like Okay, he seems like a pretty cool dude
- 51:26Speaker 1: in the real world. So since then, I'm totally on
- 51:28Speaker 1: board with him in the outside, out of Thor realm.
- 51:32Speaker 1: But yeah, this... Goddamn. He's pretty. We all knew it,
- 51:37Speaker 1: but I mean, this is the movie for you.
- 51:38Speaker 6: He can lose the mustache, but he has.
- 51:40Speaker 1: A mustache going on. Some people like the scruffy looking Thor, but.
- 51:45Speaker 6: But holy shit. There was the Daphne from earlier. She's
- 51:48Speaker 6: not Daphne anymore. He's not Daphne anymore, sorry.
- 51:51Speaker 1: You or she, I don't know that we're allowed to
- 51:53Speaker 1: ask at this point.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Whatever, dude.
- 51:57Speaker 6: Should we move on to the next trailer? Because it
- 51:58Speaker 6: does have an actress in common. Are we still on the.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Are you just wanting to continue trashing this woman? Yes.
- 52:05Speaker 1: All right, feel free, because that's exactly the kind of...
- 52:08Speaker 1: You sent the trailer, and we're like, hey, have you
- 52:10Speaker 1: seen this? And I'm like, I heard it was out.
- 52:11Speaker 1: I haven't watched it yet. And then I watched it,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and I'm like, yep, I fall right into the same
- 52:16Speaker 1: category as you, I suppose.
- 52:18Speaker 6: Because this has one of the same stars that's in
- 52:23Speaker 6: Bad Times at the El Royale, which I always like
- 52:25Speaker 6: to say the name of. But anyways, fucking Dakota Johnson.
- 52:28Speaker 6: Why do they insist on putting her in things?
- 52:30Speaker 1: I don't know. Have they not seen her performance in everything?
- 52:33Speaker 6: Have they not seen her face?
- 52:35Speaker 1: Mostly.
- 52:36Speaker 6: How do you come from parents that were at least
- 52:37Speaker 6: somewhat hot and didn't just look like that?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Back in the day... I'd say both of them, probably.
- 52:42Speaker 1: I know. Yeah.
- 52:43Speaker 6: And then you get her. But anyways, first of all,
- 52:46Speaker 6: I was pissed about this movie in the first place,
- 52:47Speaker 6: because you don't need to remake this movie. Suspiria did
- 52:50Speaker 6: not need to be.
- 52:51Speaker 1: It didn't... You don't need to make anything again, but
- 52:55Speaker 1: they're welcome to if they can do something cool with it.
- 52:58Speaker 1: And I saw this trailer, and I'm like, okay, no,
- 53:00Speaker 1: they look like they've stepped up their game.
- 53:01Speaker 7: Until.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Like, they're doing something good, and then you get to
- 53:04Speaker 1: Dakota Johnson.
- 53:05Speaker 6: And, okay... If you want your actress to have a
- 53:08Speaker 6: specific color hair, either A, find an actress who has
- 53:12Speaker 6: that color hair, or is willing to dye in their
- 53:15Speaker 6: hair that color, or let them have their natural hair.
- 53:17Speaker 6: Because when you put a god-awful, really bad wig on somebody,
- 53:22Speaker 6: it's just very distracting. And I'm just like, wait, hold on, no.
- 53:27Speaker 6: That's just bad.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:31Speaker 6: Or if you're going to put a wig, make it
- 53:33Speaker 6: a good-looking wig. Not to the point where you're like, ugh.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I think that girl walking by earlier had a better
- 53:37Speaker 1: wig than me.
- 53:39Speaker 6: And it's like, the character in the original movie did
- 53:43Speaker 6: not have that color hair. Why is it that fucking
- 53:45Speaker 6: important that she have this weird reddish blonde hair? There's
- 53:49Speaker 6: a mantis, by the way. Coming this way. Maybe.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Is it the actual mantis?
- 53:54Speaker 6: No.
- 53:55Speaker 1: That'd be pretty cool.
- 53:56Speaker 6: This is very much not the actual mantis.
- 53:59Speaker 1: No. Not at all.
- 54:02Speaker 6: Anyways. Suspiria is one of my favorite movies. It's a
- 54:05Speaker 6: beautiful movie, which throws me, because usually movies from that
- 54:08Speaker 6: era in general, I just can't get into.
- 54:10Speaker 1: That's where we differ, because I constantly reference how important
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think that 70s era of filmmaking is, and usually
- 54:17Speaker 1: you're turned off by the 70s. Which, granted, it's a
- 54:19Speaker 1: grimy decade.
- 54:20Speaker 6: But there's something magical about Suspiria.
- 54:23Speaker 8: There is.
- 54:24Speaker 6: It's an amazingly shot film. Everything about it is amazing.
- 54:28Speaker 6: And then you get to the remake, and it looks
- 54:30Speaker 6: really good. until you get to dakota johnson i mean.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Again they're like kind of on that same level like
- 54:37Speaker 1: visually it looks pretty damn interesting and it looks like
- 54:40Speaker 1: they're trying to do something really appealing with the the
- 54:44Speaker 1: aesthetics it's got that one chick.
- 54:45Speaker 6: In it who i like because she's kind of weird
- 54:48Speaker 6: ah weird chick so what was it tilda swanson tilda
- 54:51Speaker 6: swinton swenson Hilda Swinton, I'm pretty sure she's in it.
- 54:54Speaker 1: She's an interesting looking lady, but she does pick some
- 54:58Speaker 1: great projects. And she's a terrific actress.
- 55:00Speaker 6: And I'm pretty sure Jessica Harper, I thought I saw
- 55:02Speaker 6: her listed as being in it. I don't know who
- 55:04Speaker 6: she is. I didn't see her in the.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Who she is within the context of the new movie.
- 55:08Speaker 6: I don't know who she is.
- 55:08Speaker 1: We're familiar with her.
- 55:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm saying within the context of the new movie.
- 55:11Speaker 6: I don't remember seeing her in the trailer, but I
- 55:13Speaker 6: thought I saw her listed as being in the movie.
- 55:14Speaker 6: I could be totally wrong. I'm pulling this way out
- 55:16Speaker 6: of my ass. I don't know. But I just... I
- 55:19Speaker 6: don't know that I need to see the movie after
- 55:21Speaker 6: seeing the trailer unless they... Unless they pull whatever that
- 55:23Speaker 6: movie was that pulled Kevin Spacey out and put somebody
- 55:26Speaker 6: else in her spot.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Oh, please tell me they replace her with Christopher Plummer.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I would watch that. That would be so awesome. Like
- 55:31Speaker 1: Christopher Plummer in a bad wig. Dude, I'd still watch it.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I'd watch it. Christopher Plummer's pretty damn cool. Okay, Tilda Swenson. Oh,
- 55:40Speaker 1: Mia Goff. She's a strange chick. I thought there were
- 55:45Speaker 1: more people I recognized in it. Yeah, Jessica Harper is listed.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Chloe Grace Moretz. I knew there was another one I
- 55:52Speaker 1: knew in there.
- 55:53Speaker 6: It's kind of a solid cast.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Too other than Dakota Johnson. I don't know. I think
- 55:59Speaker 1: it looks good. I think I'm going to watch it
- 56:01Speaker 1: and try to.
- 56:02Speaker 6: Didn't you say... Is her mom one of the casting directors?
- 56:08Speaker 1: She's probably one of the producers. She came on board
- 56:11Speaker 1: as executive producer and was like, look, if you want
- 56:13Speaker 1: me to back this, you gotta put my daughter in
- 56:15Speaker 1: the project. That's exactly how Melanie talks these days. It
- 56:18Speaker 1: could be, actually.
- 56:20Speaker 6: Did she get rid of her Antonio Banderas tattoo?
- 56:23Speaker 1: I don't know. It probably just says Wino now or something.
- 56:25Speaker 6: Dude, I hope so.
- 56:26Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 56:27Speaker 6: Should that segue into our next movie? Oh, Lord.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Now I know your connection. Our next movie trailer?
- 56:33Speaker 6: I am.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, I sort of got off
- 56:35Speaker 1: a Johnny Depp movie. Am I going to have to
- 56:36Speaker 1: watch one?
- 56:37Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I am on board with this one.
- 56:38Speaker 6: Destination Wedding. I remember that even though on my list
- 56:41Speaker 6: I put it as the Keanu and Wynonna movie. Because
- 56:45Speaker 6: usually I am so very anti the, like, what could
- 56:48Speaker 6: be construed as romantic comedies. But this one just seems
- 56:52Speaker 6: like them being assholes to each other the whole time.
- 56:55Speaker 1: And kind of funny, though. They both have a weird
- 56:59Speaker 1: comedic sense. I don't think either of them aren't funny,
- 57:02Speaker 1: but they have to kind of fall in the right
- 57:04Speaker 1: set of circumstances to be able to deliver comedy that
- 57:07Speaker 1: kind of lands. Because we've seen sort of bad examples
- 57:10Speaker 1: from both of them over the years. But this feels
- 57:13Speaker 1: like it's kind of got it right. And they're both
- 57:15Speaker 1: in a weird... Comeback phase, you know, like it literally
- 57:18Speaker 1: is like for the longest time. Nobody really.
- 57:21Speaker 6: I think he's already made his comeback.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Well, no, but he wasn't like pre John Wick, pre
- 57:26Speaker 1: John Wick. Like nobody cared about like he was still
- 57:28Speaker 1: making pretty big budget movies, but nobody was going to
- 57:31Speaker 1: see him. I remember them coming out on video and
- 57:33Speaker 1: people be like, when did this come out? And it
- 57:35Speaker 1: was like it was the new release that week. And
- 57:37Speaker 1: I'm just like, I'm like nothing that he did kind
- 57:41Speaker 1: of landed into. It was John Wick and it changed
- 57:44Speaker 1: his career completely. From that point, he had a whole
- 57:48Speaker 1: second wind that kicked in that now he is back
- 57:50Speaker 1: to not just being an action star, but is getting
- 57:53Speaker 1: cast in this kind of movie too, which he used
- 57:55Speaker 1: to do, and that completely fell off. And we all
- 57:59Speaker 1: know the Winona story, if not, go back and listen
- 58:01Speaker 1: to the soundtrack episode. But yeah, it's like we watched
- 58:04Speaker 1: her kind of disappear, and she was still, again, like even...
- 58:09Speaker 1: lower budget stuff than what Keanu was kind of knocking out,
- 58:11Speaker 1: but she was still working for years.
- 58:13Speaker 6: And then stranger things came along.
- 58:14Speaker 1: And nothing happened until stranger things. And she just, all
- 58:17Speaker 1: of a sudden people were like, Oh yeah, we love
- 58:19Speaker 1: her and him. And like, so now we're seeing these,
- 58:22Speaker 1: you know, which again, you're going back 25 years somewhere
- 58:27Speaker 1: in that range. They were, you know, in movies together. They're,
- 58:30Speaker 1: I mean, the beloved cast of Dracula has reunited to
- 58:34Speaker 1: make a weird rom-com.
- 58:36Speaker 6: So, Yeah.
- 58:38Speaker 1: All of this seems like it could go wrong, but
- 58:39Speaker 1: that trailer looks legitimately funny. It does.
- 58:42Speaker 6: Like I said, and you know me in general and
- 58:44Speaker 6: that entire genre.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not my thing.
- 58:47Speaker 6: It's like oil and water.
- 58:49Speaker 1: I found a few good ones over the years, but
- 58:51Speaker 1: I don't really seek out a lot of the new
- 58:53Speaker 1: ones because I don't like them. I'm not totally biased
- 58:57Speaker 1: against it, but it's few and far between that there's
- 59:01Speaker 1: some good ones.
- 59:03Speaker 6: I don't have any more segues in the other trailers.
- 59:07Speaker 6: I can check my list. Hold on.
- 59:08Speaker 1: I was going to say, we had some others you
- 59:10Speaker 1: wanted to talk about. Oh, the upgrade.
- 59:12Speaker 6: Upgrade looks fucking amazing.
- 59:13Speaker 1: I still, I had to keep, because I couldn't remember
- 59:16Speaker 1: what the name of that one was, but every time
- 59:18Speaker 1: I just listened to somebody else giving a description of it,
- 59:21Speaker 1: and I'm like, halfway in, I'm like, So we're talking
- 59:24Speaker 1: about the Venom movie, right?
- 59:25Speaker 6: Which looks awful, by the way.
- 59:27Speaker 1: But I swear it feels like the same general premise
- 59:30Speaker 1: is kind of falling into place, and this weird character
- 59:34Speaker 1: that we don't know that much about, and then he
- 59:36Speaker 1: gets morphed together with this technology, be it alien, weird
- 59:42Speaker 1: genetic technology, or cyborg technology. What is Upgrade? Is it
- 59:46Speaker 1: just mechanical stuff?
- 59:49Speaker 6: From what I can understand, it's like, there are different
- 59:51Speaker 6: upgrades available, and he's a quadriplegic, so to do whatever
- 59:56Speaker 6: horrible thing happens where his wife gets, I'm assuming, killed,
- 59:59Speaker 6: because it's a trailer, spoiler.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Because it's a movie, and you always have to kill
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the other person in the scenario for them to have
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: to have any sort of action take place. You have
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to kill someone they love.
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: But it looks like one of those little... Toys you
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: see in a Kmart or Toys R Us. The little
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: things that go zzzz. The nanobite. The little.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Yeah.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: He puts one of those in the guy's spine and
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: all of a sudden he can walk again.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Do you think that works?
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: We should go hit like a Target and pick one up.
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: Is it nanobugs? Is that what they're called? I don't know. Anyways,
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: they put one of these things in his back and
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: apparently it talks to him. And it takes.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Much like Venom.
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: Anyways, it takes over when he wants to to make
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: him fully like.
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: He can kick ass.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Much like Venom. It's just, it's such a weird that
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: they're both coming out at the same time.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: There are other people that have upgrades too, like the
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: one guy who loads bullets into his arm and he
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: can shoot out of his hand.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: We'd all like that, sure.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: Hell yeah, dude. I would, like, so many accidental high-five deaths.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: That is true. I don't know that we should give
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: you that option.
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: Yeah, that would not be pretty good for anybody. Not
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: that I ever high-five anybody, except from, like, Lance Henriksen. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: Because human contact is just, ugh. But I think it
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: looks entertaining. I think I want to see it. I'm
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: not sure that I need a theater to see it,
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: but maybe I don't know.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Alright.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: There was also the John Wick slash Punisher slash whatever
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: other movie that Jennifer Garner's in now.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: The Jennifer Garner... Peppermint movie? The Jennifer Garner Death Wish movie.
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: I was like, didn't we just have a remake of
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Death Wish? And yet, now we need to do it
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: again with Jennifer Garner of all people? But I mean,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I like her and all. She can check and see
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: what's in my wallet whenever she wants, but I'm just saying.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: You didn't watch the other trailer that I was going
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: to talk about.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: You can discuss it.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: My list is Wynonna and Keanu upgrade hot door peppermint
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: Halloween for the spirit and that fucking wig. That's my list.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Do you want to discuss Halloween? Did we
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: finish this one?
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: I don't know. There's not much else to say about it.
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: You know, he's his wife and did he have a kid?
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: No, the peppermint one.
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: Oh, peppermint. oh yeah I already forgot we were talking about.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: That Jennifer Garner is Peppermint Patty in Peppermint well.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: It's pretty much Jennifer Garner and her daughter at some
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: point she calls Peppermint and it's her weird little nickname
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: in that brief scene that I saw the mayor might
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: not have had any real relevance to the story I
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: don't know they're all out doing something somewhere and they
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: get shot down by a gang and of course Jennifer
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: Garner tries to go through the whole system and there's
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: crooked judges and there's crooked cops and nothing gets done
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: and criminals get let loose so she disappears for like
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: five years She gets all John-wicked up, and she comes
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: back and starts taking them all out. And the whole
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: town loves her because she's cleaning up the mess. That's
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: why it's like all the other movies are rolled into one.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: It is a few different movies rolled into one.
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: But it's a girl.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: And we've never seen anything like that, Atomic Blonde.
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: I know, right?
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: But, I mean, I don't know. I'll probably still end
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: up watching it, so what do you think?
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: So... Are we rounding things out with Halloween?
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: Do you want to watch the trailer first, or do
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: you just want to take my word for it?
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: We can watch the trailer.
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: Get it on your phone.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Oh, man. Here, I'm going to watch this right now.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: You guys enjoy this musical interlude.
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: Deep sigh.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm immediately going to have to go to
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the details here and try to figure out who's responsible
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: for this, because... It is saying David Gordon Green, which
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: could be a good thing. He is at least a
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: for real director, but yeah, that's a weird direction for
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: him looking at the rest of his lineup of movies.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Like that's just, yeah, that's a weird move for him.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: And it does have Carpenter on board as executive producer.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: He's at least giving this his blessing, which.
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: I don't... He also gave me creepy eye once, so
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: I'm not really sure I trust him.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. You can't go by... He winks at me.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: He changed cinema a few times, but at the same time,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: he's still a creepy old dude, so what are you
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: going to do?
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: But.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what to do with this.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: On the one hand, I'm glad we're getting away from
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: the last outings of... The last two, anyway, of Michael
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Myers because it was just so not.
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: We're pretending a lot of stuff didn't happen.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. That one just
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: didn't fit the Michael Myers thing for me. It never did.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: It's fine if they want to make it. People got
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: behind it. I liked some of the cast, but I
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: just never settled on... I don't know. I just never
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: got what they were trying to do in that one.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: It just didn't sit with me. But now, again, I
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: thought maybe we were doing... similar to what they did
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: last time that's my thing how many times is jamie
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: lee curtis gonna be done with this and pretend like
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: this is the last one and then keep coming back
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: because she can stop getting money from it well i
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: mean she seemed like she was done at two and
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: then it seemed like they were really gonna okay we're
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: gonna cap it off with h2o but then she even
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: comes back in the one after h2o and now she's
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: back again so i'm just like what either decide you're
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: done with it or just beat this horse to death
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: legitimately in one big series but they keep yogurt ain't
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: giving her enough damn money i guess that's it you
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: gotta have some some yogurt money to keep you going
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: and i don't know i i don't know what to
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: think just because they are like i as i understood
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: it now granted it's been a long time since i've
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: watched h2o but h2o i thought was kind of did
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: that same thing and i think that's what's frustrating is
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: they're like they can't keep coming back to the same
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: well like let's sort of half reboot It's like they
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: want to ignore everything that came after with all the
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: other sequels, even though people liked a lot of those
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: middle sequels. I mean, until you get to the H2O,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: that's where people start tuning out by the Ja Rule
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: version or whatever. Like, nobody cares.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: Busta Rhymes?
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: I can't keep track of my acting rappers. But, no,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: it was like, I feel like up until that point,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: like up until pre-H2O, like people, I mean, outside of 3,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: but 3 now has its own beloved cult, so. The
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: rest of, you know, four and five had their following. Like,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: people really kind of got on board with that. So
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: then they come up with the H2O plan, which, as
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I understood it, was we're only going to accept the
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: stuff that Carpenter was, like, responsible for the story. So
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: we're just going to do one and two. But they
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: still kept two as part of the mythology because Carpenter,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you know, was story by and was still on board
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: as far as producing and stuff at that point. And
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: then from there, they were going to jump straight to H2O.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: But now, within that trailer, they're already throwing out the
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: brother thing, which that didn't come up until the second movie.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: There's never any mention of the brother storyline in the
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: first original Halloween. He's just a crazy boogeyman. So if
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: we're throwing that out as rumor and hearsay and all
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: of these sequels essentially as urban legends over the years,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: now we're just back to the first one and this one?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: We're just going to throw out everything else in this
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: movie series even though it even still has the same
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: actress and two other ones along the way like I
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: don't know this is all very confusing and once again
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I'm sure I'll watch it I'm a horror dork I'll
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: probably end up seeing it anyway and I don't want
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: to be one of those people that just shows up
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: to complain so I'm going to try to give it
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: a break I'm going to try to actually just watch
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: it as a movie and see what they do with
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: it but I do kind of have issue with them
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: trying to like play that game either like do a
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: full reboot and start from scratch again Like, at least
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the last two did. I didn't like the way they
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: took it, but at least they didn't try to half-leech
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: off the old series. So either continue the series as
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: the series stands, or just do a whole new reboot.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: But this half-assed version is kind of annoying.
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: Yeah, the only thing in the trailer that officially creeped
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: me out was the handful of teeth. Because you know
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: half a thing about teeth.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, and the fact that Laurie Strode has
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: just sat around for years just waiting for him.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Just sitting around.
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: Waiting for him to break out so she could try
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: to kill him.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: But yet still bothered to... guess at least have a
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: child if not get married i don't know i again
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: we haven't gotten the whole backstory yet but she's at
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: least had a kid or several kids and now has
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: grandkids so it's like she kind of half carried on
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: a real life but instead she's still now just a
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: crazy old lady waiting around for a guy to break
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: out of an asylum like i don't know this is
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: a weird mixture of characters i.
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: Was looking to see if there was a scene where
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: there was a whole bunch of trick-or-treaters that looked like
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: they were all wearing like the witch and like the
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: like the Season of, like, the third movie.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: That would be a nice little tie-in if they want
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: to put that in.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: I couldn't tell if that was or not, but I'm
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: watching it on my phone.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I won't complain if they want to put that in.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: They can also work Daniel Harris in, and I'm fine
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: with that.
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: But, yeah, it's, I don't know. I mean, I think
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: I've seen all the Halloween movies. I haven't seen the
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: second Rob Zombie one because I just haven't ever seen it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: I saw it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Again, to me, that's more functional as a movie. than
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the first one, but I still don't feel like it
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: gets what, at least in the past. I know Rob
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Zombie had his own vision or whatever the hell it is.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I just didn't really. Again, visuals are fine,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: but as the story goes, I don't really respond to it,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: but at least the second one did its own thing
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: and it just wasn't a halloween movie it wasn't a
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: michael myers movie but it definitely was a a more
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: effective you know slasher movie it was fine from that
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: angle but yeah this i don't know again i'm like
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: i'm okay with them changing modes i don't think it's
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: like i think it's ridiculous to be like just don't
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: make anymore because it's a super successful series people love
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: the character like you're they're not gonna stop making them
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: like they're just not like sooner or later somebody's gonna
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: keep the franchise going one way or another I just
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: wish they'd find something new and interesting to do with it.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I'm okay with the fact that maybe Carpenter wants to
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: be involved again. That's cool.
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: He hasn't gone to space yet, though, has he? No.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: You referenced that on the write-up, and I'm like, wait,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I think you're mixing it up with almost every other
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: horror movie ever. Jason has, Leprechaun has, Pinhead has. Everybody
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: else ends up in space, but so far, Michael Myers
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: has not gone to space.
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: That would be the next one.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I'm sure it'll be the next one. I don't know.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: We'll probably reboot again and we'll pretend like this one
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: didn't happen two years from now and they make the
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: next one where Laurie Strode decides to become an old
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: lady astronaut or some shit. I don't know. Her yogurt
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: did her right and all of a sudden she's ready
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to go to space John Glenn style. I don't know.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: There's a lot of crazy things that'll probably happen in
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: the future. I do like to see Michael Myers kill
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: people and all, but I don't know. There's a way
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to go about it. it's yet to be seen if
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: this is it. But, you know, I'll watch it. I'll
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: give it a shot.
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: We should get going. I want to get back through
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: the murder tunnel before we have to.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: That's true. We parked on the other side of a
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: murder tunnel, so we have to go.
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: So this is the last time you hear from us.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I'm really going to be amazed how this got uploaded.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: Well, when they find the tapes after our murder, they're
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: going to use it in the trial. And then somebody,
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: you know, all that trial.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: The popcorn tapes.
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: When you see that in the newspaper, peoples. Okay. When
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: it comes up on your YouTube news feed.
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: We need to go.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: All right. So.
