- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh Hi, this is Erica and this is Claire, and
- 0:04Speaker 1: we are back, but only very briefly, to tell you
- 0:07Speaker 1: about something new that is hitting this feed in the
- 0:09Speaker 1: next few weeks, and to tell you a few things
- 0:11Speaker 1: we've really missed being able to share with you over
- 0:13Speaker 1: the last years since we've popped up.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Coming May seventh, this feed will be the new home
- 0:19Speaker 2: of the Radio eight three one podcast, your weekly dose
- 0:23Speaker 2: of all things romance. It's a production of iHeart Podcasts,
- 0:26Speaker 2: hosted by Sin John Ombasker and Tyler McCall to brilliant, funny,
- 0:30Speaker 2: knowledgeable people who we love having in our ears and
- 0:33Speaker 2: in our lives.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It is a half hour show that we like to
- 0:36Speaker 1: think of as the sports center of smut. It's sort
- 0:39Speaker 1: of the audio companion to our romantic fiction publishing company
- 0:41Speaker 1: eight three one stories that you, hopefully by now maybe
- 0:45Speaker 1: know about, and it delves into everything from why certain
- 0:48Speaker 1: subgenres are having a moment Hello Cowboys, to what's happening
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Jane Austen Verse.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Okay, so it's been almost a year since we stopped
- 0:56Speaker 2: doing the podcast, and you know, we get the question occasionally,
- 0:59Speaker 2: do you make having a podcast? And my knee jerk
- 1:02Speaker 2: answer is always no. But then the truth is that
- 1:04Speaker 2: I would say, like once a month, you and I
- 1:06Speaker 2: do the thing where we're like, well, if we had
- 1:08Speaker 2: a podcast, we could be talking about this. We do,
- 1:10Speaker 2: we do?
- 1:11Speaker 3: We do.
- 1:11Speaker 2: But then when I went to search my slack and
- 1:14Speaker 2: text messages to be like, what have we said that about,
- 1:17Speaker 2: it was actually kind of it was harder to surface
- 1:19Speaker 2: them than I thought it would be. And then I
- 1:20Speaker 2: was like, maybe we actually don't miss it that much.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I don't know, hard to say, hard to say, what
- 1:25Speaker 2: did you? I have a few things, but I feel
- 1:27Speaker 2: like you turned up more. I turned up a decent amount.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The most moving one was tin Can, which is a
- 1:34Speaker 2: landline OU yeah, yeah, it's a landline for kids that
- 1:38Speaker 2: if you are in a parenting group chat especially I
- 1:41Speaker 2: think in Brooklyn you have probably heard about by now.
- 1:44Speaker 2: But it operates over the internet, but it is it
- 1:47Speaker 2: really only has landline capabilities, no text messaging or anything
- 1:50Speaker 2: like that. And Cam got one for the first night
- 1:52Speaker 2: of Hanukkah and his first call was to you, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: we both cried.
- 1:55Speaker 4: It was really moving.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It was the power also, the power of the telephone
- 2:00Speaker 1: and how it forces children to actually engage in conversation
- 2:02Speaker 1: and not just look at you and say what's that?
- 2:04Speaker 4: What's that? You know? It just fored us.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Both what a different experience it was than FaceTime. It
- 2:10Speaker 2: was amazing and I continue to find it amazing.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Well also moving.
- 2:14Speaker 1: In my opinion, sausage races were a recurring segment on
- 2:18Speaker 1: this podcast.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Yes, in the last I would say three or four months.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Now that we're into baseball season again, sausage races have
- 2:25Speaker 1: come up in two contexts that I would love to
- 2:27Speaker 1: have been able to give an update about. One is
- 2:30Speaker 1: that I learned that the Milwaukee Brewers who are the
- 2:34Speaker 1: kings of the sausage race, really it's staffers who are
- 2:37Speaker 1: sort of like randomly called up to participate.
- 2:41Speaker 4: In the sausage races. And if you feared.
- 2:44Speaker 1: That this was not a competitive endeavor, you are wrong,
- 2:47Speaker 1: because the winner of the sausage race gets to go
- 2:50Speaker 1: home early.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Wow right right, wow right?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, I think any staffer who participate should get to
- 3:00Speaker 2: go home early, because it's a kind of humiliating thing
- 3:02Speaker 2: to like, unless you are a clown, you know, a
- 3:06Speaker 2: clown trade by trade, Like, it's a lot for the
- 3:10Speaker 2: person in accounting to have to suit up and do.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That listen, But I do like that it adds a
- 3:15Speaker 1: level of seriousness. They're competing for a real incentiveentive, there's incentive.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The other thing I learned is that in Japan, and
- 3:25Speaker 1: I don't know specifically like how often or like the
- 3:28Speaker 1: frequency with Wish, it's ocurags, but at the Tokyo Dome
- 3:32Speaker 1: there is a sushi race.
- 3:34Speaker 2: So important, so important, and and correct, so important and correct.
- 3:39Speaker 2: What else you got, Well, since you're talking about recurring
- 3:42Speaker 2: segment updates, I do have an after Dark update, and
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's timely because just this past weekend we as of recording,
- 3:49Speaker 2: we attended and were exhibitors at book Con, which is
- 3:53Speaker 2: Imagine comic combo for books, and it just returned from
- 3:56Speaker 2: a hiatus in New York at the Javit Center. And
- 3:59Speaker 2: when we were going for all the application process, there's
- 4:01Speaker 2: panel submission opportunity, and one of the panel submission sections
- 4:06Speaker 2: asks would you like your panel submission to be considered
- 4:08Speaker 2: for after Dark? After Dark starts at seven pm, can
- 4:12Speaker 2: be all ages or for ages eighteen up or twenty
- 4:16Speaker 2: one up, so after Dark continues to really just just.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Be around, not to turn this into a full segment.
- 4:24Speaker 1: What do you think the difference is between over eighteen
- 4:26Speaker 1: and over twenty one. In a book con panel, would
- 4:29Speaker 1: you say, maybe, just did you get an alcohol sponsor?
- 4:33Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, it's the only thing that
- 4:35Speaker 1: tracks for me, and I.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Deeply relate to your having trouble not turning all of
- 4:41Speaker 2: these into a full podcast episode. Okay, two really quick
- 4:45Speaker 2: ones that I would cut, but like, just you've heard
- 4:48Speaker 2: us talk about the twelve foot skeletons at Halloween before,
- 4:50Speaker 2: so this really also does count as like a recurring segment. Update.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We got an official pitch, an official pr pitch from
- 4:56Speaker 2: Home Depot this year about their Halloween collection. That was
- 4:59Speaker 2: a tough moment as retired podcasters not to be able
- 5:02Speaker 2: to discuss it.
- 5:03Speaker 1: This is when you understand why Michael Jordan came out
- 5:05Speaker 1: of retirement. You know, it made perfect sense at that moment.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Another is that I had an MRI recently, well not
- 5:12Speaker 2: even recently enough that I can remember why I had it,
- 5:14Speaker 2: but I got like seven text messages and emails warning
- 5:18Speaker 2: me that I could not wear cat I nail polish
- 5:20Speaker 2: in an MRI, and I was like, friends, I don't
- 5:23Speaker 2: even know what cat I nail polish is. We don't
- 5:24Speaker 2: need to worry about it, like it's fine. So that's
- 5:28Speaker 2: that's one, and then I have one on the others,
- 5:30Speaker 2: I have one last one. I have one last I'm
- 5:32Speaker 2: wondering if it's the same one as mine, and if not,
- 5:34Speaker 2: then then we may have to do another.
- 5:36Speaker 1: After yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, mine. It's probably not mine?
- 5:39Speaker 4: Is that?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Butter busts a topic of conversation known to the known
- 5:45Speaker 1: to regular listeners. The country artists Haley Witters who I
- 5:50Speaker 1: Just Love released an album that features as its album
- 5:54Speaker 1: art her as a butter bust and I was like,
- 5:57Speaker 1: this is someone that one understands art and two who
- 6:01Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I would like a butter buzz made
- 6:03Speaker 1: of me, and I have the excuse.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I would like to meet the creative director or maybe
- 6:08Speaker 2: this was her idea.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know. That's incredible, incredible. It
- 6:11Speaker 4: is so hard, It is so hard.
- 6:13Speaker 2: In this day and age to do image making that
- 6:15Speaker 2: feels original and that is really special, truly special.
- 6:18Speaker 4: What's your last one?
- 6:19Speaker 2: It's not, it feels somehow related, and it's Penzies Spices,
- 6:24Speaker 2: which I feel like you're more familiar with Penzy Spices
- 6:27Speaker 2: as a company.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Than I am my mother in laws, I would say
- 6:30Speaker 1: a pretty committed user. Okay, yeah, which is different I
- 6:33Speaker 1: think than like even just a consumer of them, but like, yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 1: she's she's a real Penzi's loyalist.
- 6:39Speaker 4: So it's just one of It's a spice company.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Much like I don't like how you said it's just
- 6:44Speaker 2: before you said it, You're right right, it is a
- 6:47Speaker 2: spice company. Like many beloved businesses that we have discussed
- 6:53Speaker 2: on the podcast in the past. It looks like its
- 6:54Speaker 2: website was maybe made with geocites or wics no shape wix,
- 6:58Speaker 2: so I know is still active. They have a section
- 7:03Speaker 2: on their website called about Republicans, And I can't read
- 7:06Speaker 2: you the whole thing because it's doctor Browner's level of
- 7:10Speaker 2: detail of yeah, but I'll just read you the first
- 7:14Speaker 2: sentence and then i'll read you a little section from it.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So the first sentence of about Republicans is, as we've
- 7:18Speaker 2: now said on our first ever about us page on
- 7:21Speaker 2: our website, there's something unique about humankind's relationship with spices
- 7:24Speaker 2: that time and again have caused spices to be a
- 7:26Speaker 2: driving force for change, and then goes on to discuss
- 7:31Speaker 2: it's feeling of let's call it a feeling of opposition
- 7:34Speaker 2: and disconnect to the slow decline of what it calls
- 7:36Speaker 2: the slow decline of the Republican Party. And this was
- 7:40Speaker 2: my favorite section that I slack to you. If, on
- 7:42Speaker 2: the other hand, you still want the best spices and
- 7:44Speaker 2: don't need us to respect what you now vote for
- 7:46Speaker 2: to be our customer, hoorai. We are happy to have
- 7:48Speaker 2: you here, but know that we will on a regular
- 7:50Speaker 2: basis try to wake you up from the stream that
- 7:52Speaker 2: has you believing that there is anything conservative left at
- 7:55Speaker 2: all to what the Republican Party has become. We can
- 7:58Speaker 2: and will work without Republicans to solve the pro we face,
- 8:00Speaker 2: but it sure would be nice to get back to
- 8:02Speaker 2: a time where Republicans were equal defenders of quality, the environment,
- 8:05Speaker 2: and democracy.
- 8:06Speaker 4: We look forward to that day.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And then it is signed, thanks for reading, Thanks for
- 8:09Speaker 2: being here, Bill, incredible.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Stuff, speaking of spice, speaking of Clap clap, clap for
- 8:20Speaker 3: that segue home back May seven, where this feed will
- 8:24Speaker 3: be the new home of the Radio eight through One podcast,
- 8:26Speaker 3: your weekly dose of all things romance.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That's right with two of the most brilliant romance readers
- 8:31Speaker 2: that we know.
- 8:31Speaker 4: We are so excited for you to get.
- 8:33Speaker 2: To know them.
- 8:33Speaker 4: If you don't already, we hope you stick around.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yes, listen to the radio eight three to one podcast
- 8:38Speaker 2: starting May seventh on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
- 8:40Speaker 2: wherever you get your podcasts. And if you're looking for
