- 0:07Turning the page on the rundown. Friends, ladies and gentlemen, ruminators near
- 0:14and far, Thanks so much. As always, you humble us with your
- 0:19presence and your kindness. In sharing time, It's the Morning Show with Prestin
- 0:25Scott for the five forty third occasion. It's Grant Allen over there in Studio
- 0:33one A. I'm here in Studio one B, and I remind you I
- 0:36am voted on twice every year. That's exactly right, that's how that works.
- 0:44We are thrilled to have back on the program with us busy schedule,
- 0:48busy calendar, but making time. US Congresswoman Kat Camick, Florida's third District
- 0:54Cat, How in the world are you well, President, I'll vote for
- 0:59you. I'm doing all right. Seriously, how are you? I mean
- 1:07I when I talk to members of Congress, whether it's the House of the
- 1:10Senate, I mean that sincerely because I can't get my mind around how difficult
- 1:18it must be to have to find a way to plug into that maneuver within
- 1:23it and then extract yourself with all your brain cells intact. Well, I
- 1:30would tell you sincerely, but it might depress your listeners. I'll tell you
- 1:36just Obviously, everybody watched what happened the day that we left DC and the
- 1:44votes that went down and the things that happened, and you know, I
- 1:47damn near cried on the house floor. I'm watching my country slowly die in
- 1:49front of me, and it feels like you're a little bit alone and trying
- 1:56to save it. And so it's frustrating, it's mad, it can be
- 2:00a little bit depressing, but I think we need a lot of happy warriors
- 2:04who can withstand all this negativity. And that's a huge part of it,
- 2:08because it's just VC is designed to drag you down. It is literally a
- 2:15place that sucks the life force out of you. And so it's nice to
- 2:20be back in Florida. I'm sitting outside and having a cup of coffee,
- 2:24getting ready for the day, and it just reminds me of what we're fighting
- 2:30for. Truly. We broke down the spending bill on yesterday's program Cat and
- 2:37well spending might be the wrong word. Aid package as it left the house,
- 2:43I want to give you the opportunity just real quickly go through the individual
- 2:47parts of that and why you voted the way you voted. Yeah, no,
- 2:53that I appreciate that and I want to be accurate. Let me see
- 2:57here. How about how about if I start with the Ukraine, the funding
- 3:00for Ukraine, your position on that. Yeah, well, once again I
- 3:05voted against Ukraine funding. I'm really proud of the fact that I have not
- 3:10supported any Ukraine funding in my time in Washington, and that's for a number
- 3:15of different reasons, but the biggest being there's no mission plan. It is
- 3:22an endless black hole of what we would call a money pit, and there's
- 3:28no accountability, there's no oversight. Now people would tell you in this latest
- 3:32version that they embedded oversight into it. Why haven't they done that in the
- 3:38first one hundred and thirteen billion dollars. Why did it take us doing another
- 3:43sixty for them to do that. That's ridiculous. That should be a no
- 3:46brainer. And again, no mission, no war termination plan, nothing that
- 3:52would show that this money would actually go to help advance or stop Russia.
- 4:00And so again, once again I was a no. And I think a
- 4:03lot of people around the country are seeing that this situation in Ukraine, this
- 4:09war in Ukraine, while it breaks people's hearts, I mean you you can't
- 4:12look at the images and not feel something. Sure, but that being said,
- 4:15we have our own problems here at home, and so I have very
- 4:19specific reasons and some that I've talked with the intelligence community about that I feel
- 4:27strongly we need to really reevaluate all this money and all these funds that we're
- 4:32sending. And so I was again a no. I offered an amendment in
- 4:38a last ditch effort to try to at least pair the bill down because we
- 4:42knew that it was going to pass. There's enough Republicans and of certainly every
- 4:46Democrat wants to support this effort, and so there's a group of conservatives that
- 4:51we were trying to at least amend the bill to pare down its scope.
- 4:58And so for me, I offered an amendment to cut ten point five billion
- 5:01dollars from the bill, and that would be all of the economic aid.
- 5:06I don't believe it's appropriate under any circumstances for US to be paying for civil
- 5:12tension plans in Ukraine or any foreign nation for that matter. And so that
- 5:17amendment got the most votes on the floor. It got one hundred and fifty
- 5:23four Republicans supporting that amendment, but it wasn't enough to pass. All Right,
- 5:27we're gonna pause. Right there, Kat, we got to take a
- 5:29quick break. We're going to pick up right there, go through the rest
- 5:31of this aid package that was passed. US Congresswoman Cat Camick with me on
- 5:35the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Think of him as your uncle, Preston,
- 5:40the relative you actually enjoy having around and not just at the holidays.
- 5:45This is the Morning Show with Preston Scott continuing with you as Congresswoman Kat Cammick.
- 5:53You were talking about the spending bill for Ukraine, Democrats waving flags inside
- 5:57the House of another nation that was at the site. Oh man, that
- 6:01one broke my heart. Yeah again. You know, I didn't support Ukraine
- 6:08funding, and we had fought to try to pare down the bill as much
- 6:11as possible and unfortunately to no avail. And when it passed, you know,
- 6:15I had Democrat colleagues handing out Ukrainian flags on the House floor, which
- 6:20made my blood boil. I don't even wear lapel pins of other nations on
- 6:27my collar. Often you see people who wear like an American flag with a
- 6:32you know, a Scottish flag or a you know, trying to think of
- 6:39like, oh, here's a Brazilian you know, they do it for ceremonial
- 6:41stuff. I don't even do that because I'm an American and I represent this
- 6:45nation, and so to see US representatives waving a foreign nation flag on the
- 6:50floor, it infuriated me. And so we actually, in the aftermask have
- 6:56introduced the legislation to prohibit and I can't believe we have to do this,
- 7:00but to prohibit a foreign nations flag from being flown on the House floor.
- 7:03And you would not believe the pushback that we have received on this, It's
- 7:06unbelievable. But if you can't even agree as a body what nation's flag we're
- 7:13going to wave on the House floor, which it should be one and only
- 7:16in that's old glory. If we can't even agree on that, how in
- 7:20the heck did people expect us to actually tackle the really important things, the
- 7:25tough things. You can't. So this is a starting place, basically a
- 7:30reset of what we're having to do in introducing this legislation to allow only the
- 7:34American flag to be flown and displayed on the House floor in the chamber.
- 7:40Let's skip over the rest of that bill, but let's talk about the I
- 7:45want to say it was the rule that put them all together and then passed.
- 7:48Is that how that all works? To send it to the Senate,
- 7:51it had to be put together in one bill. Yeah, So there's been
- 7:57a lot of bad information about what happened. In order for a bill to
- 8:01come to the floor, there's two ways for it to come under suspension,
- 8:07which means you suspend the rules and regular order and it requires two thirds of
- 8:11Congress to pass it, or you come under what's called regular order and it
- 8:16comes under a rule, and that means a rule gets you amendments that allows
- 8:22you to modify the bill. And any good conservative would want you to actually
- 8:28be able to amend and modify a bill. So that's why I was pushing
- 8:33for a modified bill. Now people were upset saying, oh, we could
- 8:37have killed it in the cradle. Actually you couldn't have because what would have
- 8:41happened, and this was well established. Everybody in Washington knew this. If
- 8:46Republicans had joined with the Democrats, as many of my colleagues did, to
- 8:50try to kill the rule by effect stopping the bill from coming under a singular
- 8:58rule, the Chuck Shoe Bill would have been discharged on the floor, meaning
- 9:03only about three Republicans, and there would have been far more would have signed
- 9:07on to a discharge petition, bringing a entirely clean meaning no oversight, no
- 9:13accountability, no nothing, straight Democrat bill to the floor and it would have
- 9:18passed overwhelmingly. So that's the thing that people don't want to talk about.
- 9:24That's the thing that people ignore. But it's critically important to understand the process
- 9:28because for me, I believe we should have single issue bills, and this
- 9:31allowed us, even though I don't like the outcome. I was able to
- 9:35stand on the House floor and vote up and down. Singularly on Ukraine.
- 9:41Of course I voted no. But other members who wanted to vote for say
- 9:46Israel and support Israel, but they didn't want to support Ukraine. They were
- 9:50able to do that under the Rule bill, where they wouldn't have had the
- 9:54opportunity if we would have been forced and we would have been forced to accept
- 10:00the Chuck Schumer package and President. On a side note, I will say
- 10:03I have heard from multiples of my colleagues who actually said point blank that they
- 10:09wanted the Speaker to bring the Chuck Schumer bill because it allowed them to go
- 10:16campaign quote against the Rhinos. Again, I'm watching my country die in front
- 10:20of me, and we have people who are playing political games and using tactics
- 10:26to try to make themselves look better, to try to position their colleagues in
- 10:31a negative light. And again, my country's dying. We don't have time
- 10:35for these games. We need serious people, and right now we don't have
- 10:39a chamber of serious people who will hang touff for the benefit of our nation.
- 10:48Really generous with her time and has been for a few years now.
- 10:52US Congresswoman Kat Camick. This goes back to me watching her do one interview
- 10:58on Fox News a few years ago, shortly after she was elected, and
- 11:01I'm like, yeah, she's one of the few out there that can articulate
- 11:05a conservative position because Kat, so few really own it and can speak from
- 11:13the heart about this stuff. But going back to this whole spending bill,
- 11:18help us out, because how did we get a bill out of the House
- 11:22that did nothing for our border? Simply put, we didn't have two hundred
- 11:28and eighteen Republicans that would support a rule on a bill that had border in
- 11:37it. And I know that sounds crazy, but that's truly what happened.
- 11:41I mean, I was in the room, in the negotiating room, and
- 11:45yeah, if you don't have two hundred and eighteen Republicans that will hang stuff
- 11:48together, then you get a more liberal outcome. So without naming any individual
- 11:54names at this point, because that's not good for you and it's not helpful
- 11:56in the process that you have to live and work in. How to explain
- 12:01how Republicans are supposed that's supposed to be the second or first biggest issue in
- 12:09twenty twenty four, the southern border and the economy. How is it that
- 12:13Republicans are not in unanimity on the need to fix the southern border. If
- 12:18you talk to any Republican today that is an elected official in Washington, they
- 12:24will tell you that they support border security. Sure. But what we had
- 12:28in this particular situation, in order to avoid getting the Chuck Schumer bill,
- 12:33Mike Johnson felt that he needed to use the Ukraine aid as the leverage point
- 12:41for border and because that was the situation, he said, Okay, we
- 12:45can jam the Senate because the Dems in the Senate and Joe Biden, they
- 12:48want Ukraine funding more than anything. He said, let's pair Ukraine and border
- 12:54together. And instead what we had was a group of Republicans who got together
- 13:00and they said, if you put Ukraine in this, I will not support
- 13:03the rule. And he said, no, you have to understand, I'm
- 13:05trying to use this as a leverage point. And they said, no,
- 13:09we're going to take down the rule, which is unprecedented. By the way,
- 13:11very very rarely have have Republicans taken down a rule. It's become very
- 13:18new this Congress. And so seeing that, you have to say, do
- 13:24I take the Chuck Schumer bill? And so that was the choice though,
- 13:31and he forced to take it. That was the option. You either if
- 13:35you don't, if you if you don't, just go forward with the rule.
- 13:39You're stuck with the Schumer bill. Yeah, because it would have been
- 13:43discharged and I know it's very wonky and in the weeds, but it would
- 13:46have been discharged on the House floor and there would have been no border.
- 13:50What are the alleged conservatives, I mean, these are supposed to be the
- 13:52people that are on our side are and how are they defining it? How
- 13:56are they defending this? Well, because they're hiding behind policy and procedure.
- 14:01They are hiding behind the fact that everyday Americans don't understand what a suspension bill
- 14:07is or a rule bill. They go out there and they just really lay
- 14:11it out in a way that is not one hundred percent truthful. And I've
- 14:15called several of my colleagues up and I've said, you're not being honest,
- 14:18and they have said, well, it's great for fundraising, and it's disgusting.
- 14:24It's disgusting. And so, as I was telling you Pressing during the
- 14:28break, we're in a situation where today, because of these games, we
- 14:33have attempted, and by we, I mean Republicans, we have said we're
- 14:37going to run a hail Mary play every single play, And anybody who's a
- 14:41football fan knows that has never worked in any game ever. You will not
- 14:46win a game running a hail Mary play every single down. And so as
- 14:52a result of these games and these so called efforts, you end up getting
- 14:58a more liberal outcome that to me is unacceptable. We were sent to Washington
- 15:05to be the majority hang cuff as a majority, and people are using this
- 15:09as a way to try to boost their own standing, their own profile,
- 15:13and their campaign fundraising. We're almost we're almost out of time. So let
- 15:16me ask you this. Had Republicans stayed together at two eighteen, what would
- 15:22the bill have looked like it would have had a border security component that Chuck
- 15:28Schumer would be absolutely hyperventilating right now of how the heck he was going to
- 15:33pass that bill. The Ukraine portion would have been less security bill. I'm
- 15:37sorry, the Ukraine portion would have been less one hundred percent. It would
- 15:41have been at least ten and a half billion, if not more or less
- 15:45save in taxpayer money. So, because Republicans could not work together over the
- 15:52common goal of securing our southern border, we have no funds going to the
- 15:56southern border, and we have more funds going to Ukraine. And it's because
- 16:00of Conservatives. Yeah, God bless America. Kat, Thank you. I
- 16:06appreciate the explanation. It helps us, even if it infuriates us. Welcome
- 16:14to my world. We'll talk again in a few weeks. Thanks so much,
- 16:18Thank you so much. Pressing all righty US Congressman Kat Camick. See,
- 16:22I had a feeling there was a little more to this story. The
- 16:30Freedom Caucus is the one that forced this to have no aid to the southern
- 16:36border. Get your head around that. The conservative wing of the party made
- 16:44good, made good the enemy, sorry, made perfect, the enemy of
- 16:48good. We would have actually gotten somewhere on the southern border, and now
- 16:55we're stuck having to rely on the Senate Republicans to shoot it down. Twenty
- 17:00eight after the hour
