- 0:00Speaker 1: This is The EDS with Eddie Judge and Edwin aro Jave.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome back to The Ed's podcasts.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm Eddie and I am Edwin.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Today's episode is about the New Year, twenty twenty five,
- 0:15Speaker 1: but before we get into it, we want to really
- 0:19Speaker 1: acknowledge the devastating fires that are happening in La right
- 0:21Speaker 1: now and really thank the first responders of firefighters and
- 0:25Speaker 1: everybody who's out there really trying to save as much
- 0:28Speaker 1: as they can and do as much as they can. Also,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I want to give a big shout out to everyone
- 0:34Speaker 1: who's really helping out by bringing water and support and
- 0:38Speaker 1: you know, socks and underwear for all the people that
- 0:41Speaker 1: have lost everything. It's really devastating. You're in La, Edwin, Yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 1: how is it going for you?
- 0:52Speaker 2: So the main house that we have, luckily we didn't
- 0:56Speaker 2: have to deal with that. There's another how that we
- 1:00Speaker 2: have in Hollywood Hills that we had to evacuate from,
- 1:04Speaker 2: and that even though we rent that house now, it
- 1:08Speaker 2: was still tough. But like at the end of the day,
- 1:11Speaker 2: we didn't really have any belongings there. When there was
- 1:14Speaker 2: a part there where it looked like it was going
- 1:17Speaker 2: to get close to our main house, and I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 2: I can only imagine what people what they went through,
- 1:24Speaker 2: because just the thought of losing everything in a matter
- 1:29Speaker 2: of minutes is really heartbreaking. You know, the other day
- 1:32Speaker 2: I was going through just like pictures of my last
- 1:37Speaker 2: sixteen years, and I was like, I want to keep
- 1:44Speaker 2: this somewhere, right, like, these are awesome memories. And I
- 1:50Speaker 2: can only imagine like me feeling that way now about
- 1:54Speaker 2: you know, these pictures that I've had for sixteen years.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I can only imagine people that you know, are you know,
- 2:01Speaker 2: thirty forty years and out of nowhere it comes right yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 2: where they can't even see it coming. It's just all
- 2:08Speaker 2: of a sudden, they pick up your bags and they
- 2:10Speaker 2: got to go, and they got to leave everything behind.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I mean, the thought of that is just devastating. And
- 2:15Speaker 2: but yeah, shout out to you know, the first responders
- 2:19Speaker 2: and all the work they've been putting in and just
- 2:22Speaker 2: seeing the city come together has been great.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I've never seen anything like it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It looks like an apocalypse movie and it's it's very real,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and it gets really real once you know, it comes
- 2:35Speaker 2: close to you as well, you know, when it really
- 2:38Speaker 2: gets close to you, that's when you're like, whoa this is?
- 2:40Speaker 2: This is nuts?
- 2:42Speaker 1: And are you close enough that you can smell the smoke?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Oh wow? Okay, all right, Oh deary man, Well I'm
- 2:50Speaker 1: glad you're okay.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I think no matter where you're at in LA, I mean,
- 2:54Speaker 2: especially if you're pretty close to the west side, there's
- 2:57Speaker 2: just no denying it. You're gonna you're gonna see it
- 2:59Speaker 2: and you're gonna smell it.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's very sad to see that happening. I know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: we in Orange County had our share of fires last
- 3:06Speaker 1: year and it didn't get too close, but close enough
- 3:10Speaker 1: that you could see it and smell it. And that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: scary in and of itself to think that a fire
- 3:15Speaker 1: can come in and take everything and turn your life
- 3:18Speaker 1: upside down. Really, so we wish those folks the best.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And you know, LA and Orange County, I think we
- 3:26Speaker 1: all come together and San Diego, everybody in California is
- 3:29Speaker 1: coming together to help any way we can to help people,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, get through this devastating moment. So one unders Okay,
- 3:39Speaker 1: let's switch gears now, let's try to anyways, let's talk
- 3:42Speaker 1: about twenty twenty five the New Year resolutions. Resolutions what's
- 3:49Speaker 1: your thoughts on resolutions? Do you do annual resolutions? Do
- 3:54Speaker 1: you subscribe to that or do you think it's just
- 3:56Speaker 1: the end of the day.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I mean, I've always had goal goals, right, So I've
- 4:01Speaker 2: always I've always been big on goals. You know, what
- 4:03Speaker 2: am I trying to accomplish this year? What am I doing?
- 4:06Speaker 2: I mean resolutions? I mean I like calling them goals, right.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I think resolutions sort of have this stigma to them
- 4:16Speaker 2: that it's just everybody says they're going to do something,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and then two weeks into it, they don't.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:20Speaker 2: One of the one of the things I hate the
- 4:21Speaker 2: most about New Year's is how packed the gyms are
- 4:26Speaker 2: and how packed the fitness classes that I go to are.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And it's like I got to deal with it for
- 4:32Speaker 2: at least a month, but then I know, once February
- 4:35Speaker 2: comes back, it's like, you know, half the people are gone.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But it's always interesting to me how you know the
- 4:41Speaker 2: first two weeks are always packed. I mean you can't.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I mean, you got to get there early, you got
- 4:46Speaker 2: to sign up like two days before, and sure enough,
- 4:49Speaker 2: a month later, it's it's back to normal, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 2: And it's it's it just goes back to like, it's
- 4:57Speaker 2: not that hard to be successful if you're just consistent, right, Like,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I think consistency will transansform average into excellence. But most
- 5:12Speaker 2: people have problems with consistency. Most people have a problem
- 5:15Speaker 2: with like repetition, you know. But I think, I think
- 5:21Speaker 2: if you're just consistent and you stick to it, and
- 5:24Speaker 2: consistency is not always about being perfect. It's just about
- 5:29Speaker 2: progression as long as you're getting a little better and
- 5:31Speaker 2: you're consistent with getting better. As you know, Eddie, just
- 5:34Speaker 2: from all your background, you get really good at things
- 5:38Speaker 2: if you can, you know, do it for three months,
- 5:41Speaker 2: do it for six months, do it for a year.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And I think a lot of people can do things
- 5:45Speaker 2: for maybe a week, some people can do it for
- 5:48Speaker 2: a month, some people can do it for three months.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And but really it's can you do it for a year?
- 5:52Speaker 2: Can you do it for two and three? And compound
- 5:54Speaker 2: that consistency and then again it'll transform average into excellence.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Y My take on Year's resolutions is that it's sort
- 6:10Speaker 1: of a way to set up society to fail, meaning
- 6:18Speaker 1: it gives people the excuse to start over every year.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And then my experience with my life and you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: everything I've accomplished and everything I've observed as success is
- 6:29Speaker 1: that starting over is hard and it sets you back.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But if you keep going and keep that consistency, like
- 6:39Speaker 1: you said, and just consider January first another day, you're
- 6:44Speaker 1: more likely to reach your goal because it takes years.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Specifically in business, I don't know any successful company that
- 6:53Speaker 1: has been like top of mind, top of like Apple, Google, Nvidia,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know, Amazon. It took them ten plus years to
- 7:04Speaker 1: be what they are. So to think that, oh, I'm
- 7:07Speaker 1: just gonna make quick rich money, you know, in one year,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I'm going to set a goal this year, I'm going
- 7:12Speaker 1: to make a million dollars. Well, how much are you
- 7:16Speaker 1: making now? Is it nine hundred and ninety nine thousand
- 7:18Speaker 1: dollars or is it one hundred thousand? And how the
- 7:21Speaker 1: hell are you going to go from one hundred thousand
- 7:23Speaker 1: to a million dollars. It's sort of setting you up
- 7:25Speaker 1: for failure, right right, So I don't I don't subscribe
- 7:30Speaker 1: to New Year's resolutions. It might be a good time
- 7:34Speaker 1: for us, you know, for us to just check in
- 7:37Speaker 1: on our on our goals and our achievements, but to
- 7:40Speaker 1: set new goals could be very distracting to set you know, new,
- 7:47Speaker 1: to engage in new desires when you haven't accomplished your
- 7:50Speaker 1: past goals or your resolutions you've had last year, or
- 7:54Speaker 1: the year before or five years ago. It really that's
- 7:57Speaker 1: why I say, it kind of sets you up for failure.
- 8:00Speaker 1: There's so many people in the world that I've met,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, that say I'll start tomorrow, I'll start Monday,
- 8:07Speaker 1: or you know what, I'll start my goal in January,
- 8:11Speaker 1: first of such and such year, right, and it inevitably
- 8:15Speaker 1: it always ends up failing because, like you said, the
- 8:19Speaker 1: first two weeks of the year, everybody's at the gym.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Through week three, what happened to everybody? Week four, it's
- 8:25Speaker 1: back to being empty, and you still have eleven more months.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And you know it's interesting, Eddie, Like it's funny. For me,
- 8:34Speaker 2: New Year's has always been fourth quarter. My New Year's
- 8:38Speaker 2: I've always looked at. It starts in October. The reason
- 8:42Speaker 2: why I make the last quarter of the years so
- 8:45Speaker 2: important to me is because I often say that you
- 8:47Speaker 2: could only receive what your mind can accept. Right. If
- 8:50Speaker 2: your mind can't accept something, it's never going to get it.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So what are you doing that makes you think that
- 8:57Speaker 2: you can get better. So for me, in four order,
- 9:01Speaker 2: that's when most people are sort of packing it in
- 9:04Speaker 2: and they start to sort of get lazy and they
- 9:07Speaker 2: stop working and they not wanting to and they stop
- 9:10Speaker 2: wanting to do they stop doing all the things that
- 9:14Speaker 2: you know, they worked hard for in the first you know,
- 9:17Speaker 2: eight months, nine months, right, So if you can do
- 9:20Speaker 2: well in the last quarter, stay disciplined in the last quarter,
- 9:25Speaker 2: then what will happen is you'll start off the year
- 9:27Speaker 2: with full momentum and by the time people are barely
- 9:31Speaker 2: you know, recovering from the last three months where they've
- 9:34Speaker 2: basically just chilled for three months, right, especially sales people, right,
- 9:38Speaker 2: real estate people, alarm sells people, like most of those industries,
- 9:44Speaker 2: like they start hanging it up in the fourth quarter.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeh.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And I've always been about like, no, this is when
- 9:49Speaker 2: I'm going to freaking slam on the gas. And now
- 9:52Speaker 2: I start succeeding at things that most people can't succeed at,
- 9:57Speaker 2: and then it gets my mind to accept, wait, I
- 10:00Speaker 2: do deserve more because I'm doing things that most people
- 10:02Speaker 2: aren't doing.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:04Speaker 2: So the whole idea is, you know, yeah, New Year's
- 10:06Speaker 2: has loosen everybody's doing it right. It's like, no start
- 10:09Speaker 2: before starting the fourth quarter, build momentum, and then once
- 10:14Speaker 2: the new year comes, you're just flying, you know. And
- 10:16Speaker 2: so I've always been very intentional about starting in the
- 10:20Speaker 2: fourth quarter and then, like the other thing that I
- 10:23Speaker 2: would say about, you know, goals is obviously you want
- 10:26Speaker 2: big goals, you want big, god sized dreams, you want
- 10:28Speaker 2: a dream big. But what most people don't tell you is,
- 10:32Speaker 2: you know, when you go after big dreams, big goals,
- 10:35Speaker 2: a lot of times you'll get discouraged because they seem
- 10:38Speaker 2: so far away.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:40Speaker 2: So the idea is, yes, have big dreams, have big goals,
- 10:46Speaker 2: but I like to put targets for those goals. So
- 10:50Speaker 2: I want to hit targets that eventually will make me
- 10:53Speaker 2: hit those goals. You know. An example for me, when
- 10:55Speaker 2: I was fifteen years old, I gave myself a goal
- 10:59Speaker 2: that by twenty one years old, I was going to
- 11:01Speaker 2: make one hundred and fifty grand, right, one hundred grand. Actually,
- 11:04Speaker 2: I also envisioned myself living the life I live today.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I envisioned that at fifteen years old. Now did I
- 11:14Speaker 2: believe it, Heck no, but I knew it was going
- 11:18Speaker 2: to happen. Somehow, some way. And that's why I often
- 11:21Speaker 2: say that we all have this unlimited potential, but it
- 11:25Speaker 2: is limited to where you're at today. So because of that,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you have to put targets that will help you get
- 11:32Speaker 2: to your major goal, because every target you accomplish will
- 11:37Speaker 2: now unlock a new level of belief. See, I'm a
- 11:42Speaker 2: firm believer that in life, it's all about belief. Right,
- 11:45Speaker 2: you have to have conviction, you have to believe that
- 11:46Speaker 2: it could happen, but you have to take steps, and
- 11:51Speaker 2: every step that you accomplish will now unlock a new
- 11:54Speaker 2: level of belief. So again, when I was fifteen years old,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I said, Okay, I'm going to make one hundred grand
- 11:59Speaker 2: by the age of twenty one years old. So I
- 12:01Speaker 2: said to myself, well, I guess I got to become
- 12:03Speaker 2: the manager of this place by eighteen. That way I
- 12:05Speaker 2: can start making at least sixty grand. And instead of
- 12:08Speaker 2: focusing on all the reasons why I couldn't, I was
- 12:11Speaker 2: just like, I don't know how I'm gonna do it,
- 12:13Speaker 2: but I'm gonna figure it out. I'll control the two
- 12:14Speaker 2: things that I can control, which is my activity and
- 12:17Speaker 2: my attitude in some way, somehow, I'm gonna make one
- 12:20Speaker 2: hundred grand by the time I'm twenty one, and then
- 12:22Speaker 2: sure enough at eighteen years At sixteen years old, I
- 12:24Speaker 2: became the supervisor, started making like thirty grand a year.
- 12:28Speaker 2: By the time I was eighteen, I became the manager.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Now I started making like sixty grand a year. But
- 12:34Speaker 2: every step unlocked a new level of belief. And then
- 12:38Speaker 2: sure enough, at twenty one years old, I made one
- 12:40Speaker 2: hundred and fifty grand and I was like whoa, And
- 12:44Speaker 2: then that unlocked a new level of belief, and then
- 12:46Speaker 2: every step you keep rising unlocks a new level of belief.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But if I would have been like, man, I want
- 12:54Speaker 2: to live like the life I live today, if I
- 12:57Speaker 2: wouldn't have gone through those steps, I would have never
- 13:00Speaker 2: got there because I just would have got discouraged. So again,
- 13:04Speaker 2: we all have this unlimited potential, but it is limited
- 13:06Speaker 2: to where you're at today, and each new accomplishment that
- 13:10Speaker 2: you try to get is always going to come with
- 13:13Speaker 2: it set of fears. That's why your trust has to
- 13:15Speaker 2: be bigger than your fear. You're always going to be
- 13:19Speaker 2: scared when you're going after something big, and that's where
- 13:22Speaker 2: you have to be courageous. You can't have courage without fear.
- 13:26Speaker 2: And for me, that's always been very important to me
- 13:31Speaker 2: is breaking down getting a goal, breaking it down to
- 13:35Speaker 2: the ridiculous. And the reason you want to break it
- 13:37Speaker 2: down to the ridiculous, which is are the targets, is
- 13:40Speaker 2: because that makes it realistic and that makes it attainable.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Because what causes you to take action towards something is
- 13:47Speaker 2: your ability to think you can get a result. If
- 13:50Speaker 2: you don't think you can get a result, you'll never
- 13:52Speaker 2: do it. But that's why breaking it down to the
- 13:54Speaker 2: ridiculous will make you think that you could make it happen,
- 14:00Speaker 2: and every target unlocks a new level believe. So that's
- 14:03Speaker 2: that's what I've always done about goals. I'd love to
- 14:05Speaker 2: hear what you do ready as well, because you've always
- 14:06Speaker 2: been very gold driven, very disciplined, and obviously I think
- 14:11Speaker 2: you've made a lot of New Year's resolutions happen.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I do no, I do recall. You know, when I
- 14:20Speaker 1: first got introduced to making resolutions as an exciting thing
- 14:23Speaker 1: to do. You know, everybody's doing it, everybody's setting new
- 14:26Speaker 1: goals on January first, I am going to do this,
- 14:30Speaker 1: And there was a time period where January first was
- 14:35Speaker 1: a fresh start. And I am not opposed to fresh
- 14:38Speaker 1: starts and starting over and doing new things, especially doing
- 14:42Speaker 1: new things that's exciting, right, But there was a time
- 14:45Speaker 1: period where I'm like, I don't need another resolution when
- 14:48Speaker 1: I haven't accomplished my last three years of resolutions, right,
- 14:53Speaker 1: And it really taught me like, Okay, it's good to
- 14:56Speaker 1: set these goals and have a time stamp of January first,
- 15:00Speaker 1: kind of like a fresh start. I get that concept,
- 15:03Speaker 1: but knowing that, you know, life and success is a
- 15:09Speaker 1: game of endurance. Not a lot of people can handle endurance.
- 15:13Speaker 1: A perfect example would be like a sprinter versus a
- 15:17Speaker 1: marathon runner. Right. The marathon runner is gonna certainly achieve more,
- 15:21Speaker 1: have more time spent into it because they will take
- 15:25Speaker 1: their time getting to the goal, versus a sprinter. The
- 15:27Speaker 1: sprinter wants to get it done now and quickly and
- 15:31Speaker 1: not work, you know, twelve months to get to the goal.
- 15:36Speaker 1: So the point of resolutions has been, you know, can
- 15:39Speaker 1: you set realistic goals and can you keep that momentum going?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Because it applies to everything, not just business, I mean
- 15:47Speaker 1: it applies to relationships. And it definitely stood out for
- 15:51Speaker 1: me in the fitness business. When I had the gym,
- 15:55Speaker 1: you know, everybody's excited. Everybody comes to the gym and
- 15:59Speaker 1: starts working out, and we have some great success for
- 16:02Speaker 1: the first three four months of the year. And I
- 16:04Speaker 1: made it a goal of mine to keep people engaged
- 16:07Speaker 1: throughout the entire twelve months, not just the first three months,
- 16:11Speaker 1: you know, not just the summer bod. Let's work on
- 16:14Speaker 1: your summer bod. You know, well, what happens after your
- 16:18Speaker 1: summer bod. You just let it go right, and if
- 16:22Speaker 1: you do, you're essentially starting over. And to add to
- 16:25Speaker 1: your point about the fourth quarter in October, I think
- 16:30Speaker 1: if you can do exactly what you're talking about, staying focused,
- 16:35Speaker 1: having the faith, and moving through all the noise and
- 16:39Speaker 1: distractions that the last quarter had, I think it's the
- 16:42Speaker 1: hardest time of the year to be accomplishing anything because
- 16:46Speaker 1: a everybody tends to make it look like the world
- 16:51Speaker 1: kind of slows down. People are taking more time off,
- 16:53Speaker 1: there's more parties. We got to celebrate life, and that's
- 16:58Speaker 1: where the problem happens. To start October thirty first, with
- 17:01Speaker 1: all the sugar, all the candy, all the distractions. And
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know, I'm not saying that Halloween is not fun.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It is fun, but it's also a good excuse to
- 17:10Speaker 1: just eat like shit and drink like you know, to
- 17:14Speaker 1: to no end and just start hurting your health. Come Thanksgiving,
- 17:19Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite holidays, as you know,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and it used to be I could eat all kinds
- 17:25Speaker 1: of food on Thanksgiving and it's so much fun. It's
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's in you're with family and everything is happening, and
- 17:32Speaker 1: how could you not look forward to that?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Right?
- 17:35Speaker 1: And then there's December and we got Christmas and.
- 17:38Speaker 2: All parties that party.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So I used to tell all my clients like, if
- 17:43Speaker 1: you can really put the pedal to the metal on
- 17:47Speaker 1: the last three months of the year, you're going to
- 17:49Speaker 1: be successful. In fact, I used to hold a lot
- 17:52Speaker 1: of challenges at the last quarter of the year, and
- 17:55Speaker 1: I even went as far one year, which I lost
- 17:58Speaker 1: my ass on, but I was happy. I said, for
- 18:01Speaker 1: all you guys who can work out thirty days in
- 18:04Speaker 1: the thirty one days of December, I will waive your
- 18:07Speaker 1: membership for the next you know, for the next month.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And a lot of people were motivated. It's amazing how
- 18:13Speaker 1: people are motivated by your little one hundred and twenty
- 18:15Speaker 1: dollars one hundred and forty dollars a month membership, and
- 18:18Speaker 1: it motivated everybody not to you know, ruin their health
- 18:24Speaker 1: journey and their fitness journey. And at the end of
- 18:27Speaker 1: the day, I ended up, you know, with very low
- 18:30Speaker 1: revenue on January, you know, first because there were so
- 18:33Speaker 1: many successful customers or clients that that achieve that. But
- 18:38Speaker 1: I truly believe that that is the heart. That's where
- 18:41Speaker 1: people really gain the most weight, where people lose the
- 18:44Speaker 1: most traction on their goals, and certainly where people get
- 18:49Speaker 1: the most distracted. You know, there's there's holidays leading up
- 18:52Speaker 1: to that, but the fourth quarter is the game changer. Like,
- 18:56Speaker 1: like you said, I agree with you one hundred percent, and.
- 18:58Speaker 2: That's why I think they call it separation season, right,
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's where you get to separate yourself from everybody else.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And again, more importantly, it gets your mind to accept
- 19:07Speaker 2: that you do deserve more because you're different. Right, Like
- 19:10Speaker 2: when you get to go to the gym and now
- 19:12Speaker 2: instead of or a fitness class, there used to be
- 19:15Speaker 2: forty people there and now there's ten. You're like, okay,
- 19:18Speaker 2: I'm a little different, you know, and I think you know,
- 19:22Speaker 2: at the end of the day, what I've seen from
- 19:25Speaker 2: just average and elite people. Is elite people can get
- 19:29Speaker 2: things done even when they don't feel like it. They
- 19:33Speaker 2: don't work off how they feel, They work off their discipline.
- 19:37Speaker 2: And you know, during the fourth quarter, like you mentioned,
- 19:41Speaker 2: there's a lot of distractions, right, but if you can
- 19:47Speaker 2: still get things done while those distractions are happening, or
- 19:51Speaker 2: while there's a lot of chaos, that's what separates average
- 19:57Speaker 2: from elite, right, because anyone can do thing things when
- 20:00Speaker 2: your life is great and when things are going well
- 20:02Speaker 2: and when you have no distractions, Like, yeah, you're supposed
- 20:05Speaker 2: to do well, right, but it's can you do well
- 20:08Speaker 2: when there's a bunch of distractions? Can you do well
- 20:11Speaker 2: when there's a bunch of chaos around you, when you're
- 20:14Speaker 2: when your life is falling apart? Can you still get
- 20:17Speaker 2: things done right?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:19Speaker 2: That is that's the definition of grit, right you figure
- 20:23Speaker 2: out how to resolve during chaos, right. Fortitude, resiliency. You know,
- 20:29Speaker 2: my favorite three skill sets are fortitude, grit, and resiliency.
- 20:37Speaker 2: And those things can't be caught taught. They can't. They
- 20:40Speaker 2: can't be taught. You have to You're not born with them.
- 20:43Speaker 2: You have to experience them. And the only way you
- 20:45Speaker 2: experience them is by continuing to push forward against all
- 20:49Speaker 2: the resistance. And you know that's why in life, I
- 20:51Speaker 2: don't think you want it to be easy. You want
- 20:54Speaker 2: it to be hard because if things aren't hard, you
- 20:57Speaker 2: know we were talking about pain earlier, right, if things
- 20:59Speaker 2: aren't hard, you'll never build the muscles that you need
- 21:03Speaker 2: to sustain success for a long time. Because what's gonna
- 21:07Speaker 2: happen is life's going to punch you in the face.
- 21:09Speaker 2: It's inevitable. Life and pain are inseparable. And when life
- 21:12Speaker 2: punches you in the face, if you don't, if you
- 21:15Speaker 2: haven't built that muscle of being able to take that punch,
- 21:17Speaker 2: you'll get knocked out. But that's why when you're but
- 21:20Speaker 2: the only way to build that muscle is through those
- 21:24Speaker 2: tough times. So if you can embrace you know, this
- 21:28Speaker 2: year as you're going through the pain of going through
- 21:31Speaker 2: that goal, and instead of quitting when the pain comes,
- 21:34Speaker 2: because if you quit, you never get to build the muscle.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But if you just continue to push forward, focusing on
- 21:39Speaker 2: the things that you can control, you'll start to build
- 21:42Speaker 2: that endurance. You'll start to build that grit, that resiliency,
- 21:45Speaker 2: that fortitude, and the reason they are my three favorite
- 21:48Speaker 2: skill sets to have because no one could ever take
- 21:50Speaker 2: them away from you. Like, no matter what you do,
- 21:54Speaker 2: you'll kick apps because when life punches you, you'll spring
- 21:58Speaker 2: back up and you'll continue to push forward. Right, Whereas
- 22:01Speaker 2: most people, because we all get knocked down, right, we
- 22:03Speaker 2: all be knocked down. Yeah, the difference is how fast
- 22:07Speaker 2: do you get back up? You know? And most people, unfortunately,
- 22:11Speaker 2: they stay on the floor for like freaking months, whereas
- 22:15Speaker 2: you know, the people that do pretty well for themselves,
- 22:18Speaker 2: they spring back up and they're like, yep, I got
- 22:20Speaker 2: knocked down, I'm springing back up and I'm pushing forward.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I think another way of putting that is, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 1: it's easy to experience the good times in life, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and even the good times in life don't have longevity
- 22:38Speaker 1: because they get boring. Right. It's like driving the same
- 22:41Speaker 1: car for ten years. Well, I had a heart on
- 22:44Speaker 1: when I bought my Ferrari, but ten years later, I'm
- 22:46Speaker 1: want a different one. Three years later, I want a
- 22:48Speaker 1: different one. Right. So to build resilience, unfortunately, you're going
- 22:54Speaker 1: to have to go through some pain. You're going to
- 22:56Speaker 1: have to go through some discomfort and you're going to
- 22:59Speaker 1: have to experience it. Nobody can teach you. You cannot
- 23:03Speaker 1: read it in a book, and you cannot learn it
- 23:06Speaker 1: from somebody else going through the pain. In order for
- 23:09Speaker 1: someone to really understand resilience, they have to go through it.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And unfortunately, sometimes life just throws it at you. Right,
- 23:18Speaker 1: people like you and I tend to go out looking
- 23:21Speaker 1: for it. You know, we want the challenging, we want
- 23:23Speaker 1: the obstacles, but it's the people that you know are
- 23:28Speaker 1: through are just for lack of better examples, a car accident,
- 23:32Speaker 1: you know, you cannot see that coming, and shit like
- 23:34Speaker 1: that happens. So or even this fire us happened in La.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Who would have ever thought that it was going to
- 23:41Speaker 1: flatten out the whole city of Palisades, Right, you would
- 23:45Speaker 1: never have thought that. But now that you are going
- 23:47Speaker 1: through it, this is going to have to be your experience.
- 23:51Speaker 1: If you haven't already experienced resilience. This is where you
- 23:54Speaker 1: learn how resilience works and what you can do to
- 23:58Speaker 1: get through it.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And then it allows you to be more. You know,
- 24:02Speaker 2: when the next problem comes, it's as big as more
- 24:05Speaker 2: because you've gone through so many. Right, so someone it
- 24:09Speaker 2: might be a big problem. But because you've already gone
- 24:11Speaker 2: through a lot of tough times in your life, the
- 24:14Speaker 2: next problem that comes isn't that big anymore, and you
- 24:17Speaker 2: get a bunch of those you continue to, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 2: build that muscle. The other cool thing that happens when
- 24:24Speaker 2: you kind of are going through a tough situation is
- 24:27Speaker 2: you're also building a story that you when you overcome
- 24:32Speaker 2: and you do well for yourself again, it now creates
- 24:35Speaker 2: a loyal following because people want to follow somebody that's
- 24:41Speaker 2: got a great story of overcoming and obviously the only
- 24:44Speaker 2: way to do that is through go through through pains.
- 24:47Speaker 2: It's kind of like you have to embrace the suck,
- 24:50Speaker 2: you know. And whenever you have goals, those goals are
- 24:53Speaker 2: going to come with problems. That New Year's resolution, whatever
- 24:56Speaker 2: we want to call it, is going to come with
- 24:57Speaker 2: a bunch of problems and challenges, and you know your
- 25:00Speaker 2: job is to solve those challenges and when you do,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you're going to get that new level of belief and
- 25:09Speaker 2: then it's okay, what's the next purpose, what's the next goal?
- 25:12Speaker 2: And every time you do, you start adding to that belief.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And it really just comes down to if you're able
- 25:20Speaker 2: to again, I've been talking a lot about a belief.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Belief is confidence. Confidence comes from keeping the promises that
- 25:28Speaker 2: you make to yourself, which is you got to be
- 25:31Speaker 2: about truth. And most people when they think about truth
- 25:34Speaker 2: and integrity, they're thinking about keeping the promises that they
- 25:37Speaker 2: make to other people. Well, that should be a given right.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Where most people mess up is they don't keep the
- 25:46Speaker 2: promises that they make to themselves. And the problem and
- 25:50Speaker 2: the reason they do the reason they don't keep the
- 25:52Speaker 2: promises they make to themselves is they think no one
- 25:55Speaker 2: is looking. But there is someone looking, which is your
- 25:59Speaker 2: subconscious mind. And every time you don't keep a promise
- 26:03Speaker 2: to yourself, your subconscious mind keeps saying, Yep, you did
- 26:06Speaker 2: it again. You never keep your word. Oh, you said
- 26:09Speaker 2: you were going to go to the gym all year, Yep,
- 26:10Speaker 2: you lasted three weeks this time, check jack. And then
- 26:14Speaker 2: that's where you start losing the belief. You start losing
- 26:18Speaker 2: the confidence because your subconscious mind doesn't believe you anymore.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Sub Consciously, you'll say, I'm going to be the top
- 26:25Speaker 2: sales guy at this company. But the problem is your
- 26:28Speaker 2: subconscious mind says, nap, I don't believe you. And the
- 26:32Speaker 2: reason I don't believe is because I got a history
- 26:34Speaker 2: of you never coming through on your promises. So, because
- 26:37Speaker 2: your subconscious mind doesn't want to see you get hurt,
- 26:40Speaker 2: it will literally self sabotage yourself to come back down
- 26:45Speaker 2: to what it really thinks you're worth. So it'll start
- 26:48Speaker 2: making excuses for you to start quitting. Even though everything's
- 26:52Speaker 2: going great. You're on your way to making your goal.
- 26:54Speaker 2: But because you have this history of never keeping the
- 26:56Speaker 2: promises you make to yourself, you will begin to self
- 26:58Speaker 2: sabotage yourself to come back down to what you really
- 27:03Speaker 2: think you're worth. See, your subconscious mind is always going
- 27:06Speaker 2: to prove itself correct.
- 27:16Speaker 1: So do you think the people that can't commit to
- 27:19Speaker 1: their commitments, you know, because their subconscious is telling them
- 27:24Speaker 1: I don't believe you. Do you believe that's because of
- 27:27Speaker 1: the people that are experiencing that never experience real challenges.
- 27:34Speaker 1: You know, it's always been and Dad get me out
- 27:38Speaker 1: of it, or Dad will just pay somebody and fix
- 27:41Speaker 1: my problems, or for that matter, our government will fix
- 27:45Speaker 1: this and I don't have to do anything.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Are those the people that have that subconscious that makes
- 27:53Speaker 1: them insecure and unresilient? If you will.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I think it's the lack of awareness, because you can't
- 28:01Speaker 2: change something you're not aware of what happens when you
- 28:04Speaker 2: stop keeping the promises you make to yourself. You don't
- 28:07Speaker 2: even realize you're doing it anymore. It just becomes a habit,
- 28:09Speaker 2: like you don't even again, you don't even realize you're
- 28:12Speaker 2: doing it. It's just part of your lifestyle. So really
- 28:15Speaker 2: the question is, well, how do I start building my
- 28:17Speaker 2: confidence right? How do I start truly to believe in myself?
- 28:21Speaker 2: And it really just comes down to, no matter how big,
- 28:24Speaker 2: no matter how small, you keep the promise that you
- 28:27Speaker 2: make to some to yourself, you know, and then every
- 28:31Speaker 2: little win starts building that belief level. And again we
- 28:36Speaker 2: talked about it earlier, Eddie, it's consistency is not about perfection.
- 28:42Speaker 2: It's just about progression. And as long as you're getting
- 28:46Speaker 2: a little better, like that's all you, that's all that matters.
- 28:50Speaker 2: But eventually you can stay consistent for a long time.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Now you start making some leaps, But it's all about consistency.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Most people can't deal with consistency. And the other beautiful
- 29:02Speaker 2: thing about consistency, consistency is what establishes a habit, and
- 29:07Speaker 2: what happens is you're not always going to be motivated.
- 29:09Speaker 2: You're not always going to be inspired, right Like, we
- 29:11Speaker 2: don't always like I've never always inspired and motivated. But
- 29:15Speaker 2: my habits will get me through those days where I
- 29:18Speaker 2: don't feel like going to the gym or I don't
- 29:20Speaker 2: feel like going to work. I've made it such a
- 29:22Speaker 2: habit that even though I don't feel like it, I
- 29:25Speaker 2: still get it done. And it's why consistency is so important.
- 29:30Speaker 1: So tell me a little bit about your experience, since
- 29:35Speaker 1: you have plenty of with salespeople. You know, you have
- 29:38Speaker 1: your salespeople that are just go getters, have experienced hardship
- 29:42Speaker 1: in life, and I think on the surface, we all
- 29:45Speaker 1: know that the person that has suffered the most pain
- 29:49Speaker 1: usually is the most motivated, versus a person you know
- 29:52Speaker 1: that grew up with the silver spoon in their mouth
- 29:54Speaker 1: and you know they just don't know what to do
- 29:57Speaker 1: with their life. So they come to you and you
- 29:59Speaker 1: give them an opportunity, and then they're like, eh, not
- 30:02Speaker 1: for me. What is the differentiating factor when you have
- 30:06Speaker 1: those two polar opposite people that you're training, and how
- 30:10Speaker 1: do you guide them so that they're both successful if
- 30:15Speaker 1: that is possible.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I think, to me, what I've seen the biggest is
- 30:20Speaker 2: just the some people are consistent and some people aren't.
- 30:24Speaker 2: And I've seen people from that are successful that already
- 30:28Speaker 2: have you know, rich parents become very successful as well.
- 30:32Speaker 2: And I obviously i've seen the opposite, right, and I've
- 30:35Speaker 2: seen people that come from nothing make it. But what
- 30:37Speaker 2: they all sort of have in common is just this
- 30:40Speaker 2: commitment to consistency. They do the commitment to repetition.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:47Speaker 2: They like to do all the boring stuff that no
- 30:50Speaker 2: one else wants to do, like the gym. Like the gym,
- 30:54Speaker 2: it's I mean, the life is like that, right, Like
- 30:57Speaker 2: they show up just winning in life. It's just showing
- 31:00Speaker 2: up every day. Like I think back to myself when
- 31:03Speaker 2: I was fifteen years old. I was shy, I was timid,
- 31:08Speaker 2: but I got obsessed with repetition. I started I wanted
- 31:11Speaker 2: to do all the boring shit that no one else
- 31:13Speaker 2: wanted to do. Part of that was just showing up
- 31:15Speaker 2: every day. I showed up six days a week. People
- 31:18Speaker 2: that were way more talented than me only showed up
- 31:20Speaker 2: four days out of the week. I showed up to
- 31:22Speaker 2: every leadership development class they had the people that were
- 31:25Speaker 2: way more talented than me never showed up to those
- 31:27Speaker 2: classes because they weren't mandatory. I got obsessed with role playing.
- 31:32Speaker 2: I went to the top guy in the entire company
- 31:35Speaker 2: and I said, hey, can you record your presentation for me?
- 31:38Speaker 2: And then I wrote that thing word for word and
- 31:40Speaker 2: I must have said it a thousand times, and I
- 31:44Speaker 2: started to feed up. I started to copy his tonality,
- 31:46Speaker 2: the way he spoke, I started walk like him. I
- 31:49Speaker 2: basically just mimicked everything he did. But then I sort
- 31:52Speaker 2: of got to rob his confidence from him because I'm like, well,
- 31:55Speaker 2: he is the top guy in the company. I'm doing
- 31:57Speaker 2: it just like he's doing it. I must be pretty
- 32:00Speaker 2: good and happen is once I started getting the results,
- 32:04Speaker 2: I started to believe it right, because you don't believe
- 32:07Speaker 2: something in your heart until you experience it. Right. When
- 32:10Speaker 2: you have that conviction, it's because in some way, somehow
- 32:13Speaker 2: you've experienced it. And that's really when I started to
- 32:17Speaker 2: really believe, like, wait a minute, I could really do this.
- 32:19Speaker 2: But I was doing again all the boring stuff that
- 32:22Speaker 2: really no one wanted to do. And I think, as you,
- 32:25Speaker 2: you know, if you want to be successful, if you
- 32:27Speaker 2: want to make sick. Whatever you define success is right.
- 32:32Speaker 2: You know you want to make six figures a year,
- 32:33Speaker 2: seven figures a year, It's actually not that hard. Number
- 32:36Speaker 2: one is first rule is you have to find an
- 32:39Speaker 2: opportunity that allows you to be successful, that allows you
- 32:43Speaker 2: to make that kind of money. If you want to
- 32:45Speaker 2: make a million dollars, but you're in an industry that
- 32:47Speaker 2: or in a position where there's no way in hell
- 32:49Speaker 2: that you're going to make a million dollars, then how
- 32:51Speaker 2: are you going to make it? So you have to
- 32:53Speaker 2: you have to find you have to find an industry
- 32:57Speaker 2: that will allow you to be as successful as you want, right,
- 33:00Speaker 2: an opportunity. But the second one is the hardest one.
- 33:03Speaker 2: You have to find someone who's done it before, who's
- 33:06Speaker 2: got a best at interest in your success that's going
- 33:08Speaker 2: to help you do it. And if you could find
- 33:10Speaker 2: those two things, you should be pretty successful unless you
- 33:14Speaker 2: just don't start applying the things that you're being taught.
- 33:17Speaker 2: But yeah, that's that's what I've seen over and over.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It's just the consistency is again, consistent consistency will take
- 33:25Speaker 2: average to excellence. I mean, here's a perfect example, Addie.
- 33:28Speaker 2: It's funny I was talking to Teddy the other day
- 33:31Speaker 2: and she was making fun of a picture I post
- 33:33Speaker 2: that She called it a thirst trap, and that's why
- 33:36Speaker 2: I was showing my abs. Right, And I do the
- 33:40Speaker 2: same boring ass workout that I've been doing since I
- 33:43Speaker 2: was at eighteen years old. Nothing special about it, nothing
- 33:46Speaker 2: sexy about it. But it's just the consistency over the years.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I don't even have to work out on it as hard.
- 33:54Speaker 2: You know, I maybe do abs once a week now.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Back then I used to do them like or five
- 34:00Speaker 2: times a week, and it's it's like the same. It's
- 34:03Speaker 2: just the consistency. And then I'll see dudes in the
- 34:06Speaker 2: gym doing all kinds of you know, crazy ab workouts
- 34:11Speaker 2: and they're nowhere, dear what you know where I'm at
- 34:15Speaker 2: right And here I am with my boring ass freaking
- 34:17Speaker 2: four step AB workout. Nothing special about it other than
- 34:21Speaker 2: I've just been consistent.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Consistency really plays a big role in every aspect of life,
- 34:28Speaker 1: which you know, just brought up another point leading into
- 34:33Speaker 1: it's not just about making money, because the reality is
- 34:37Speaker 1: not every single person in this world can apply these
- 34:40Speaker 1: rules and be a six figure a year earner. Right,
- 34:45Speaker 1: There's other aspects involved such as opportunity and relationships and
- 34:50Speaker 1: of course timing. So let's shift a little bit off
- 34:56Speaker 1: of the financial business, you know, consistency, purpose and think
- 35:01Speaker 1: about our personal lives, you know, because money ultimately doesn't
- 35:06Speaker 1: buy you happiness, it's it's who you are as a
- 35:08Speaker 1: person and your relationship. So are you I know you're
- 35:12Speaker 1: struggling right now and you're living through a really challenging
- 35:17Speaker 1: time with your relationship. What part of consistency has been
- 35:23Speaker 1: applicable to what you've done in your relationship for all
- 35:26Speaker 1: these years? And how are you handling these challenges today?
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah? Well so I think again, So your goes back
- 35:34Speaker 2: to your habits, right, I think your character will be
- 35:36Speaker 2: revealed under pressure, right, it's under pressure, your character will
- 35:41Speaker 2: be revealed. Right. And you know, for me, I've always
- 35:45Speaker 2: leaned on faith, you know, whether that's business, whether that's family,
- 35:49Speaker 2: whether that's my health. It's just always leaning on faith first,
- 35:53Speaker 2: always having hope, something that you're looking forward to. You know.
- 35:57Speaker 2: That's that's been huge for me.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Right, That's part of your consistency, right, yes, okay?
- 36:04Speaker 2: And and in fact, the more successful I got, the
- 36:08Speaker 2: more I wanted to lean into faith, right, Right, Because
- 36:11Speaker 2: you know, the more success comes, the more sometimes problems comes.
- 36:14Speaker 2: And you know, right now I'm dealing with another set
- 36:16Speaker 2: of problems, but it's really my faith that's kind of
- 36:20Speaker 2: carrying me through that. Also, you know, the discipline of
- 36:26Speaker 2: still like, hey, even though all this stuff is going on, like,
- 36:29Speaker 2: you still have to get there's still a lot of
- 36:31Speaker 2: people that are depending on you. You got to get the
- 36:34Speaker 2: job done right. And and then gratitude, you know, that's
- 36:41Speaker 2: that's a big one. Gratitude is And it's not easy.
- 36:45Speaker 2: You have to cultivate gratitude because we're already pre programmed
- 36:50Speaker 2: to worry all the time. So if you're grateful, you
- 36:56Speaker 2: won't see like failure as permanent because there's so many
- 37:02Speaker 2: things that you're grateful for. So that's that's been huge,
- 37:07Speaker 2: you know. And and you know obvious tell people if
- 37:09Speaker 2: you're if you're struggling with faith, increase your gratitude. And
- 37:14Speaker 2: if you increase your gratitude, you'll automatically have you know, faith,
- 37:19Speaker 2: you know. So so yeah, it's just uh doing the
- 37:24Speaker 2: doing the things that you're that you're supposed to be doing,
- 37:26Speaker 2: you know, and and just continuing to push I think,
- 37:31Speaker 2: continue to push forward, right because I think what what
- 37:35Speaker 2: happens with most people is when that fear comes, they
- 37:39Speaker 2: sort of get paralyzed and they don't move, and then
- 37:43Speaker 2: from there comes procrastination. You know, you need to do stuff,
- 37:47Speaker 2: but you don't do it, and then from there you
- 37:49Speaker 2: become paranoid. And then that's when you get in your
- 37:52Speaker 2: head about things, and then that's when that anxiety really
- 37:55Speaker 2: starts to creep in, because it's just a bunch of
- 37:59Speaker 2: thoughts in your mind. I mean, think about it. When
- 38:01Speaker 2: have you overthought good thoughts? Every time you overthink something,
- 38:05Speaker 2: it's bad thoughts.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Yeah, And and what happens when you have a lot
- 38:10Speaker 2: of thought in your head when you have a lot
- 38:12Speaker 2: of clutter, you're at a low frequency. What you want
- 38:16Speaker 2: to be is at a high frequency. And you could
- 38:19Speaker 2: only get a high frequency when you have clarity. You
- 38:22Speaker 2: don't even have time to think because you have you're
- 38:24Speaker 2: so clear on everything that you want.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 2: So you know that's why, Like for me, one of
- 38:29Speaker 2: the ways I do that is just by staying productive.
- 38:32Speaker 2: You know, I always say execute being overwhelmed by overwhelming execution,
- 38:39Speaker 2: and that for me has always helped me out quite
- 38:43Speaker 2: a bit, you know, because Otherwise if you just sit
- 38:45Speaker 2: around and think, mine'll go wild on you.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You know, going back to the consistency, that's I think
- 38:59Speaker 1: a big part of being in control, right, Self control,
- 39:03Speaker 1: self discipline is one of the biggest factors that's made
- 39:05Speaker 1: me successful. And I've had moments where, you know what,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't want any self control. I just want to
- 39:12Speaker 1: relax and not think about anything, right. But I also
- 39:16Speaker 1: know that when you get to a point where you've
- 39:18Speaker 1: been consistent with life and everything in your life, you're
- 39:22Speaker 1: essentially in control of your life. And I know that
- 39:27Speaker 1: when you can't control something, that's when chaos ensues, and
- 39:31Speaker 1: that's when your mind gets clouded, and that's when feelings
- 39:34Speaker 1: that you get distort you, and then you start doing
- 39:37Speaker 1: shit that you shouldn't be doing and you regret later
- 39:40Speaker 1: on saying things. You know, and that's typical in any
- 39:43Speaker 1: kind of disagreement, whether it's business or personal family. Right,
- 39:47Speaker 1: do you feel like you're in control right now going
- 39:50Speaker 1: through what you're going through with Teddy? Or are you
- 39:54Speaker 1: depending relying on faith to manage it for you? I mean,
- 40:00Speaker 1: how are you going to get through? This is really
- 40:03Speaker 1: the question I'm asking, Do you know?
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you have to let A big part
- 40:09Speaker 2: of it is faith, right, because I think what robs
- 40:11Speaker 2: you of your inner piece is you trying to control
- 40:14Speaker 2: something that you cannot control. There's just certain like I'm
- 40:18Speaker 2: big on controlling what I can control, but there's certain
- 40:22Speaker 2: things that you can't control. And that's kind of where
- 40:24Speaker 2: the faith comes in, Yeah, because when you try to
- 40:27Speaker 2: control something you can't control, then that's where you rob
- 40:30Speaker 2: yourself of the inner piece. And I think more than
- 40:32Speaker 2: anything like inner piece joy are probably two of the
- 40:36Speaker 2: best things you could ever have. And you know, I'm
- 40:39Speaker 2: not going to sit here and say that every day
- 40:40Speaker 2: is perfect. It's just it's ups and downs. And sometimes
- 40:43Speaker 2: I feel great and I'm like, yeah, this is things
- 40:47Speaker 2: are going to be great, and then then the next day,
- 40:49Speaker 2: I'm like, what the F is going on in my life? Right? Like,
- 40:52Speaker 2: So it's just knowing, Yeah, it's just knowing that. Look,
- 40:56Speaker 2: it's not about perfection. It's about progression and taking one
- 41:01Speaker 2: day at a time. Know that you're going to have
- 41:03Speaker 2: bad days, like it's part of life, Like we're not
- 41:06Speaker 2: always going to be feeling great, and and don't beat
- 41:09Speaker 2: yourself up when you have those bad days. And you know,
- 41:14Speaker 2: and it's it's it's the only way that that that
- 41:17Speaker 2: you can do it. I think is just acknowledging that
- 41:21Speaker 2: it's going to be tough putting one keep progressing right,
- 41:25Speaker 2: because the only way you're going to get out of
- 41:26Speaker 2: that dark valley is like continue to push. If you
- 41:29Speaker 2: just stop and sit around, you're never going to get
- 41:32Speaker 2: out right. So you just got to progress every day.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Know that it's you know, you're gonna get knocked down.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Sometimes you're gonna get back up, and it's just it's
- 41:40Speaker 2: a it's a journey and then hope for for you know,
- 41:44Speaker 2: for the best.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Another thing is, you know that keeps us kept me
- 41:49Speaker 1: and some of my clients motivated is doing something that's
- 41:53Speaker 1: bigger than yourself. And and this was applicable during our
- 41:58Speaker 1: Spartan training. You know, when you're doing an obstacle and
- 42:02Speaker 1: it's the the why, you know what what is your why?
- 42:07Speaker 1: What is your reasoning? And how are you gonna empower
- 42:10Speaker 1: yourself to get through it? And sometimes I had to
- 42:15Speaker 1: talk to clients and say, I think about something that's
- 42:17Speaker 1: bigger than you and decide if it's powerful enough to
- 42:22Speaker 1: get you through the hardest times, the hardest obstacles. And
- 42:26Speaker 1: I had a client that actually found me through Spartan
- 42:30Speaker 1: race research, and he said he was going to do
- 42:34Speaker 1: a Spartan race with his son, and his son ended
- 42:38Speaker 1: up passing away from some cancer or something like that,
- 42:42Speaker 1: and he was determined to do a Spartan because that's
- 42:46Speaker 1: what he was going to do with his son. And
- 42:48Speaker 1: he's like, gosh, I think he was pushing seventy years old.
- 42:53Speaker 1: And the guy was motivated, and he was you know,
- 42:56Speaker 1: he was he was there because of the power he
- 43:00Speaker 1: had from his son. You know, he was doing it
- 43:02Speaker 1: not for himself, but for the power of, you know,
- 43:07Speaker 1: making his son proud, who isn't around. I mean, that's
- 43:10Speaker 1: a very powerful tool, right right. And and what I'm
- 43:15Speaker 1: getting at I think is, you know, I think part
- 43:17Speaker 1: of what your struggle is you're going through can be
- 43:21Speaker 1: empowered by thinking about the kids. You know, thinking the
- 43:24Speaker 1: kids first. Anytime it comes to a divorce or separation
- 43:29Speaker 1: of two people that you know have something in common,
- 43:31Speaker 1: I think it's important to think about what that was
- 43:34Speaker 1: that you have in common in how to protect that.
- 43:36Speaker 1: So I think I think if you really use that tool,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I think you'll be able to enhance and and and
- 43:47Speaker 1: you know ten x your faith and power to get
- 43:50Speaker 1: through this hard time in your life. You know, I
- 43:54Speaker 1: know it's not easy, you know, but I just want
- 43:58Speaker 1: you to be, you know, as successful and as happy
- 44:01Speaker 1: as you can be going through this time of your life.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Bro, I appreciate it, man. And you just reminded me
- 44:07Speaker 2: of one of my favorite quotes, which is courage is
- 44:09Speaker 2: not the absence of fear, it's the absence of self.
- 44:13Speaker 2: And it's typically you know, if you live for yourself,
- 44:18Speaker 2: you can settle for less, but if you live for others,
- 44:20Speaker 2: that require all of who you are. And that's exactly
- 44:24Speaker 2: what you said. It's just it's a big driver, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 2: seeing you know, things aren't taught, they're caught. And your
- 44:31Speaker 2: kids see how you handle yourself during a pressure situation.
- 44:37Speaker 2: And that's why I say your character will be revealed
- 44:40Speaker 2: under a pressure situation. And habits are reflexive, and if
- 44:45Speaker 2: you have good habits, that's what's going to come out.
- 44:47Speaker 2: That's the kind of person you are. So I think
- 44:49Speaker 2: for me and to your point, when you change your
- 44:53Speaker 2: life for the better and you start doing better, you
- 44:56Speaker 2: give people hope and faith that their life can change too.
- 44:59Speaker 2: And it could be a major inspiration for people as well.
- 45:02Speaker 2: So you know, I think what I'd say to everybody listening.
- 45:05Speaker 2: If you're going through tough times, you know know that
- 45:10Speaker 2: when you overcome it, when you change, it's you're going
- 45:13Speaker 2: to inspire many people. And in life. I know sometimes
- 45:17Speaker 2: people don't think this, but you know a mantra that
- 45:22Speaker 2: I love is I exist, Therefore I will impact. And
- 45:25Speaker 2: it's just a reminder to yourself, I exist, therefore I
- 45:29Speaker 2: will impact. No matter who you are, You're going to
- 45:32Speaker 2: impact this world, and it's either going to be positive
- 45:35Speaker 2: or negative because your decisions are going to impact this world.
- 45:39Speaker 2: And I've just always chosen to do it in a
- 45:43Speaker 2: positive way, right And you're either inspire, you're going to expire.
- 45:48Speaker 2: And the thing about it is, no matter who you are,
- 45:52Speaker 2: I promise you you can inspire someone because there's someone
- 45:56Speaker 2: that is just like you that when they see you
- 45:59Speaker 2: do better, it gives them faith and hope that their
- 46:02Speaker 2: life can change.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Absolutely. Absolutely, And coming full circle, because we started this
- 46:08Speaker 1: conversation about resolutions, I think that's a mindset. What do
- 46:13Speaker 1: you think your mindset is for twenty twenty five? Are
- 46:16Speaker 1: you optimistic about what this year brings.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Or yeah, I'm very optimistic. I mean, I think twenty
- 46:22Speaker 2: twenty four was probably my toughest year in life. Everything
- 46:26Speaker 2: that could have gone wrong in business kind of went
- 46:28Speaker 2: wrong in business obviously, you know the news at the
- 46:33Speaker 2: end of the year with my relationship wasn't a good
- 46:37Speaker 2: one either. But again, hopefully this gives people a lot
- 46:43Speaker 2: of hope. Is when you know you're doing the right things,
- 46:48Speaker 2: there's always going to be a reaction, right, So for
- 46:50Speaker 2: every action, there's a reaction, right, And what happens a
- 46:54Speaker 2: lot of times is when you're doing the right things,
- 46:57Speaker 2: it takes about six months to a year, sometimes two
- 47:00Speaker 2: years to see it just skyrocket. And what happens is
- 47:05Speaker 2: most people, when they don't see the results in three months,
- 47:07Speaker 2: they quit. When they don't see the result in six months,
- 47:09Speaker 2: they quit. But if you can just stay consistent like,
- 47:15Speaker 2: it's gonna come. And I've seen this over and over
- 47:18Speaker 2: in my life, and that's where I think twenty twenty
- 47:21Speaker 2: five is going to be a great year for us.
- 47:25Speaker 2: For me, i should say, and that I've been putting
- 47:27Speaker 2: in so much work that it's just part of the
- 47:31Speaker 2: resistance that you have to go through when you're gonna
- 47:33Speaker 2: do some great and so I'm really optimistic on twenty five.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Not because I'm just like thinking and hoping, and it's
- 47:43Speaker 2: I know, I put in the work and I haven't quit,
- 47:47Speaker 2: and I'm continuing to put the work. So I'm expecting
- 47:50Speaker 2: to have my biggest comeback here and a very successful one.
- 47:56Speaker 2: So you know, God willing that's what's gonna happen. But
- 47:58Speaker 2: I truly believe it in my heart.
- 48:00Speaker 1: That's awesome. I got to be honest with you, though
- 48:03Speaker 1: I didn't come into this new year with big goals
- 48:07Speaker 1: in mine and I think we talked about that earlier
- 48:11Speaker 1: in our conversation, but I do have a sense of optimism,
- 48:17Speaker 1: like this is going to be a big year of change,
- 48:20Speaker 1: a positive year of change, because not just you know
- 48:23Speaker 1: what's going on to you with you and you know
- 48:26Speaker 1: other people in the world, and gosh, what's happening already
- 48:29Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five is devastating in LA But I
- 48:33Speaker 1: realized that I just I operate so much better when
- 48:37Speaker 1: I'm optimistic, and whatever that brings for me, I'm gonna
- 48:41Speaker 1: cherish and you know, take in with open arms. But
- 48:46Speaker 1: my goal for twenty twenty five is to make some
- 48:49Speaker 1: great positive changes and I don't know what those changes
- 48:51Speaker 1: are yet, but it's going to be a year of
- 48:54Speaker 1: change for me, whatever that is.
- 48:56Speaker 2: I love what you just said there, Eddie, because honestly,
- 48:59Speaker 2: ninety percent winning in life is just being positive. If
- 49:01Speaker 2: you can take a negative and turn it into a positive.
- 49:03Speaker 2: And here's a quick formula for you to do that.
- 49:06Speaker 2: So your life is a series of events, and based
- 49:10Speaker 2: on the interpretation that you give that event, that's going
- 49:14Speaker 2: to give you a feeling. That feeling is going to
- 49:18Speaker 2: cause you to take action, and that action is going
- 49:21Speaker 2: to take you give you the result. So if you
- 49:24Speaker 2: don't like the result, you have to change the action,
- 49:26Speaker 2: which means you have to change the meaning, which means
- 49:28Speaker 2: you have to change the interpretation. But if you become
- 49:31Speaker 2: really good at the interpretation of that thing that happened
- 49:37Speaker 2: in your life, you'll now get that feeling. That feeling
- 49:40Speaker 2: will cause you to take a certain type of action
- 49:42Speaker 2: and that'll give you a result. Now easier said than done, right,
- 49:46Speaker 2: So sometimes you won't be as great at interpreting that
- 49:52Speaker 2: event in your life. And a reminder is just because
- 49:55Speaker 2: you feel some way, let's say it's a bad way
- 49:57Speaker 2: that you feel doesn't mean you have to act on it.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Just a little reminder on that as well. You don't
- 50:03Speaker 2: have to act on everything you feel and you know,
- 50:05Speaker 2: because sometimes you're not going to have the greatest feelings.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Right, It's just part of life.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Life.
- 50:11Speaker 1: So let's do a quick speed round for what we're
- 50:14Speaker 1: looking forward to in twenty twenty five. We have some
- 50:17Speaker 1: questions here and then we'll wrap this up. Let's say
- 50:22Speaker 1: a place you want to visit this year? Is there
- 50:24Speaker 1: any specific place you want to see this year that
- 50:27Speaker 1: you've always wanted to see that you haven't seen for
- 50:29Speaker 1: whatever reason?
- 50:30Speaker 2: Abiza? What about you?
- 50:32Speaker 1: Oh, Abiza, that's good. I always wanted to see that
- 50:34Speaker 1: when I was younger in my party days. Today I
- 50:37Speaker 1: would feel like an old man there.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Yeah, well I might be that old man there, but
- 50:42Speaker 2: I think I'm going to check out Abiza. By the way,
- 50:44Speaker 2: I heard it's a great place to take your kids too.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Apparently it's apparently it's like it's it's people from France
- 50:52Speaker 2: that's like their Mexico.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean it's the party island. But it's
- 50:56Speaker 1: a gorgeous place and you know, you don't have to
- 50:58Speaker 1: go there to party, but it's it's a beautiful place.
- 51:00Speaker 1: That's awesome. A place I want to sit this year
- 51:03Speaker 1: is actually Zion. I've been wanting to go to Utah
- 51:08Speaker 1: and visit just you know, just something here that I've
- 51:11Speaker 1: never seen, the red rocks, the hiking trails, the beautifulness
- 51:15Speaker 1: of our beautiful country. So that's one of my goals
- 51:18Speaker 1: is to visit Zion this year. Is there a skill
- 51:22Speaker 1: you want to learn this year? A new skill?
- 51:26Speaker 2: I'm either I'm either going to take dancing lessons, although
- 51:29Speaker 2: I like to think I'm a really good dancer, but
- 51:31Speaker 2: I want to take it up to another level. What
- 51:33Speaker 2: kind of I think a little bit soalsis a little
- 51:36Speaker 2: hip hop like I want to start doing all that
- 51:38Speaker 2: just but I want to do with my kids too.
- 51:40Speaker 2: I think it'll be pretty fun to do with my kids.
- 51:42Speaker 2: And the other one is cooking. I think that's a
- 51:45Speaker 2: new skill set that I want to develop.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Yeah, what about you new skill set? I think I
- 51:52Speaker 1: want to learn everything I can possibly about AI. You know,
- 51:57Speaker 1: to me, that seems to be the next good inner, right,
- 52:01Speaker 1: So I I really am curious. I avoided it for
- 52:05Speaker 1: the last two years, but I think it will be
- 52:08Speaker 1: a big deal for the for the rest of our life.
- 52:10Speaker 1: So I'm going to learn everything I can about AI.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Do you have any predictions for this year in general?
- 52:16Speaker 1: Nothing specific.
- 52:19Speaker 2: That one. I don't know. I'm not really that good
- 52:21Speaker 2: at predicting there. I mean, well, you're going to get going.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Going back to my positive thinking, I predict this is
- 52:33Speaker 1: going to be a great year for the United States.
- 52:35Speaker 1: You know, it's I just I predict that it's going
- 52:38Speaker 1: to be a good year. So is there anything you
- 52:40Speaker 1: want to do for someone this year? Anything or anyone?
- 52:44Speaker 2: You know, my dad? You know, the World Cup is coming,
- 52:49Speaker 2: so I'm I My dad's getting older, so I definitely
- 52:52Speaker 2: want to spend more time with my dad, but also
- 52:54Speaker 2: just kind of start lining up that big trip that
- 52:56Speaker 2: I want to do for him for the World Cup.
- 52:58Speaker 2: You know, I've never taken more than ten days off
- 53:02Speaker 2: in a row, and I want to just take off
- 53:04Speaker 2: thirty days in a row for that and just experience
- 53:09Speaker 2: that with him. I mean that that's that's that's what
- 53:11Speaker 2: what what comes to mind and travel?
- 53:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I want to have a hundredth year birthday
- 53:22Speaker 1: for my grandmother. She's going to be one hundred in September,
- 53:25Speaker 1: but I want to have it six months before that,
- 53:27Speaker 1: because you know, I just don't know if she's going
- 53:30Speaker 1: to make it or not. I mean, she's doing great,
- 53:32Speaker 1: she's all there, firing on all eight but you know,
- 53:35Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to wait. So that's what
- 53:38Speaker 1: I want to do for someone, which is my grandmother,
- 53:41Speaker 1: is have a nice hundred year of birthday parties. So
- 53:44Speaker 1: and what is your word for this year?
- 53:50Speaker 2: Relentless consistency.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Relentless consistency?
- 53:55Speaker 2: What about you?
- 53:58Speaker 1: I would say probably Sarah anddipity. That's my word, serendipity.
- 54:04Speaker 2: There you go.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I don't know how to apply it, but that's the
- 54:07Speaker 1: first word that came to my head right now.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Same thing, that's the first thing I just when you
- 54:11Speaker 2: said it, I was just like, leveless consistency.
- 54:13Speaker 1: That's awesome, awesome, Well, happy to year, great catching up
- 54:18Speaker 1: with you.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Yeah, was always a message for you for the listeners
- 54:22Speaker 2: for twenty twenty five.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I forget that we had a message for
- 54:25Speaker 1: you listeners. What is the message? The message I think
- 54:31Speaker 1: I want to I want to give our listeners is
- 54:36Speaker 1: stay positive, stay positive, think positive. Even during the hardest
- 54:41Speaker 1: times in life, in what life throws at you, try
- 54:46Speaker 1: to stay as positive as possible, because that's where you'll
- 54:49Speaker 1: be able to see through all the noise and garbage
- 54:53Speaker 1: and distractions that happen in your head. With me, I've
- 54:57Speaker 1: always used positivity as sort of the servile silver silver lining.
- 55:02Speaker 1: You know, why is this happening? And what's the lesson?
- 55:07Speaker 1: And ah, where's my path to get through this? You know,
- 55:11Speaker 1: so positivitally, it's always helped me think I don't care
- 55:15Speaker 1: how hard this is. I don't care if I'm you know,
- 55:17Speaker 1: so far behind or I've lost it all. I am
- 55:20Speaker 1: looking for the pop, for the path that's going to
- 55:23Speaker 1: get me out of this. And if I think positive,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I will find that path. If I think negative, I
- 55:29Speaker 1: won't see anything, and I would just be blinding and
- 55:31Speaker 1: and and never get out of that hole or never
- 55:34Speaker 1: get out of that situation. So I'd say stay positive
- 55:38Speaker 1: for for as much as you can, even on the hardest,
- 55:41Speaker 1: worst times of your life. For illustration purposes, let's say
- 55:46Speaker 1: again you are in a car accident. You're you're upside
- 55:49Speaker 1: down in the car, and you're looking around and you're dizzy,
- 55:53Speaker 1: and and you think, oh my god, this is the
- 55:55Speaker 1: end of my life. If you switch gears and think positive,
- 55:59Speaker 1: I'm going to get out of this, I'm going to
- 56:00Speaker 1: get that out of this alive, and I'm going to
- 56:02Speaker 1: get back to my life. It's a better way to
- 56:06Speaker 1: get out of a situation than to think, oh no,
- 56:09Speaker 1: I'm never going to be able to walk, or oh no,
- 56:11Speaker 1: I just lost my arm, or you know whatever. You
- 56:14Speaker 1: know negative thought comes into your head. Switch it to
- 56:16Speaker 1: a positive.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Love that I would say, you know, most people are
- 56:21Speaker 2: waiting to know before they go, and you have to
- 56:25Speaker 2: go before you know. And you have to go before
- 56:29Speaker 2: you know. Most people are waiting to know before they go.
- 56:32Speaker 2: But in reality, you have to go before you know.
- 56:34Speaker 2: And that's really another way of saying you have to
- 56:37Speaker 2: take action before you have what you need. To wait
- 56:41Speaker 2: until you have what you need to actually start taking
- 56:44Speaker 2: action towards it. Whatever your goal is, as crazy as
- 56:47Speaker 2: it sounds, is you know, non realistic as it sounds,
- 56:51Speaker 2: Just start taking action towards it and you'll start seeing
- 56:56Speaker 2: how the stars will start aligning to you. But you
- 56:58Speaker 2: have to go before you know. The house like the
- 57:01Speaker 2: Killer of All Dreams. Sometimes we're waiting for the perfect time.
- 57:04Speaker 2: It's never gonna have a perfect time. You got to
- 57:06Speaker 2: just go to go after it. Yeah, so go after
- 57:09Speaker 2: it in twenty twenty five. That's all five twenty five.
- 57:13Speaker 2: I love it.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Awesome. Thank you so much for listening, and please remember
- 57:19Speaker 1: to share our podcast, talk to your friends about it
- 57:24Speaker 1: if you feel you got anything from it, and please
- 57:28Speaker 1: any feedback. We Edwin and I love feedback. It's not
- 57:32Speaker 1: to buff our ego or you know, you know, make
- 57:35Speaker 1: us feel better. We really do gauge what we're doing
- 57:38Speaker 1: based on our listeners. If you guys can enjoying us,
- 57:41Speaker 1: or if you think it's just we're full of shit,
- 57:46Speaker 1: so tell us the truth. I appreciate it all, and
- 57:49Speaker 1: Happy New Year.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Happy New Year,
