- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:06Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Today we're going
- 0:13Speaker 1: to talk about something a little more positive, a little
- 0:16Speaker 1: more upbeat. Today we're going to talk about having gratitude
- 0:20Speaker 1: on this Saturday morning. So welcome back to Real Talk
- 0:24Speaker 1: with Mike D. where we say what we mean and
- 0:26Speaker 1: we mean what we say. Ladies and gentlemen, it is
- 0:31Speaker 1: Saturday morning. Maybe you're already up. Maybe you're still sitting
- 0:35Speaker 1: in bed. Maybe you've got a cup of coffee in
- 0:37Speaker 1: your hand and maybe you're getting ready for work. Or
- 0:40Speaker 1: maybe for once you actually get to slow down and breathe.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Whatever you're doing this morning, I want you to take
- 0:47Speaker 1: a minute and just stop. Take a breath and think
- 0:50Speaker 1: about one simple word. Gratitude. Gratitude. Because sometimes we get
- 0:55Speaker 1: so caught up in what's going wrong that we forget
- 0:58Speaker 1: to appreciate what's going right. And believe me, I understand.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Life can be hard. Sometimes it feels like there's always
- 1:07Speaker 1: something demanding our attention. But this morning, I want to
- 1:11Speaker 1: talk about something different. I want to talk about being grateful.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Not because everything in life is perfect, because it's not.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm grateful despite the things that aren't perfect. Think about it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You woke up this morning. That alone is something. You
- 1:26Speaker 1: have another Saturday, another opportunity, another chance to laugh, another
- 1:31Speaker 1: chance to love someone, another chance to tell someone you
- 1:34Speaker 1: appreciate them, another chance to make a different decision, and
- 1:38Speaker 1: another chance to simply enjoy being alive. And sometimes we
- 1:43Speaker 1: overlook those things because they seem ordinary, but maybe ordinary
- 1:46Speaker 1: is actually something worth being grateful for. A quiet morning.
- 1:52Speaker 1: cup of coffee, the sun coming through the window, a
- 1:55Speaker 1: good song playing on the radio, a conversation with somebody
- 1:58Speaker 1: you care about, maybe a phone call from your kids
- 2:01Speaker 1: or a text from your friend, a dog sitting next
- 2:04Speaker 1: to you, a warm house, maybe a comfortable chair, the
- 2:08Speaker 1: ability to get up and walk outside. These things might
- 2:12Speaker 1: not seem like much, but when you really stop and
- 2:14Speaker 1: think about them, they're pretty damn important. I think sometimes
- 2:18Speaker 1: we believe gratitude means pretending everything is okay. And it doesn't.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Being grateful doesn't mean you can't be frustrated. It doesn't
- 2:27Speaker 1: mean you can't be sad. It doesn't mean you can't
- 2:29Speaker 1: have problems. And it definitely doesn't mean you have to
- 2:32Speaker 1: put on a fake smile on your face and pretend
- 2:34Speaker 1: like everything is perfect. Gratitude simply means that while you're
- 2:39Speaker 1: dealing with the difficult things, you also recognize the good things.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You can have problems and still be grateful. You can
- 2:47Speaker 1: be tired and still be grateful. You can be struggling
- 2:50Speaker 1: financially and still find something to appreciate. You can be
- 2:55Speaker 1: going through a difficult time and still say, you know what?
- 2:58Speaker 1: There's still some good in my life. And sometimes that's
- 3:01Speaker 1: enough to get you through another day. You know, Saturday
- 3:06Speaker 1: mornings have always felt a little different to me. There's
- 3:09Speaker 1: something about Saturday. The pace feels different. There's not quite
- 3:13Speaker 1: the same pressure as Monday morning. You're not necessarily thinking
- 3:18Speaker 1: about the alarm clock going off at 5 or 6 o'clock.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You're not immediately thinking about everything you have to accomplish.
- 3:24Speaker 1: There's just a little more room to breathe. And I
- 3:27Speaker 1: think that's the perfect time to practice gratitude. Before the
- 3:31Speaker 1: day gets busy, before the phone starts ringing, before the
- 3:34Speaker 1: responsibilities start piling up, take five minutes. Sit down. Have
- 3:39Speaker 1: your coffee. Look around. Maybe ask yourself, what am I
- 3:42Speaker 1: thankful for? But don't overdo it. Maybe you're thankful for
- 3:47Speaker 1: your family. Maybe you're thankful for your children. Maybe you're
- 3:49Speaker 1: thankful for your friends. Or maybe you're thankful for your job.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Maybe you're thankful that you made it through a difficult week.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Or maybe you're thankful for your health. God knows I'm
- 3:59Speaker 1: thankful for my health. Maybe you're thankful for another day. Amen.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Maybe you're simply thankful that you have a roof over
- 4:08Speaker 1: your head. Whatever it is, hold on to it. And
- 4:12Speaker 1: here's something else I've learned. Sometimes we're so focused on
- 4:15Speaker 1: what we don't have that we forget about everything that
- 4:18Speaker 1: we do have. We look at somebody else's life and think,
- 4:22Speaker 1: why don't I have that? Why is it my life
- 4:25Speaker 1: like theirs? Why can't I afford that? Why don't I
- 4:28Speaker 1: have that relationship? Why don't I have that house? Why
- 4:33Speaker 1: don't I have that car? And believe me, social media
- 4:37Speaker 1: does not help because we're constantly thinking and looking at
- 4:42Speaker 1: everybody else's highlighted real and remember something. You're comparing everyday
- 4:46Speaker 1: life to somebody else's best moments. You don't know what
- 4:50Speaker 1: happens when the camera gets turned off. You don't know
- 4:53Speaker 1: what they're dealing with behind closed doors. So stop comparing.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Look at your own life. Look at what you survived.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Look how far you've come and look at the people
- 5:02Speaker 1: who love you. Look at the lessons you've learned and
- 5:05Speaker 1: give yourself some credit. You made it through every bad
- 5:09Speaker 1: day you've ever had. Every disappointment, every heartbreak, every mistake,
- 5:14Speaker 1: every difficult morning. Every night you thought you couldn't handle
- 5:18Speaker 1: one more thing and you're still here. That is something
- 5:22Speaker 1: to be grateful for. Maybe this Saturday morning isn't perfect.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Maybe you're dealing with something right now. Maybe you're worried
- 5:30Speaker 1: about money. Maybe you're worried about work. Maybe you're dealing
- 5:33Speaker 1: with a relationship that's difficult. Maybe you're missing somebody. Maybe
- 5:37Speaker 1: you're lonely. Maybe you're just exhausted. If that's you, I
- 5:43Speaker 1: want you to hear this. You don't have to figure
- 5:46Speaker 1: everything out today. Sometimes you just need to breathe. Take
- 5:51Speaker 1: one day at a time, one hour at a time,
- 5:53Speaker 1: sometimes one minute at a time. And while you're doing that,
- 5:57Speaker 1: find one thing you're grateful for. Just one. Because gratitude
- 6:02Speaker 1: doesn't have to be complicated. It can be simple as,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm grateful for this coffee. I'm grateful for this morning.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm grateful for my daughter. And I'm grateful for my family.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm grateful for my friends. I'm grateful that I have
- 6:17Speaker 1: another day. And I'm grateful that I'm still standing. Start there.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And here's my challenge for you this Saturday. Before the
- 6:29Speaker 1: day is over, tell someone you're grateful for them. Don't
- 6:33Speaker 1: assume they know. Tell them. Send them a text. Make
- 6:36Speaker 1: that phone call. Give them a hug. Say, I appreciate you.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Those words can mean more than you realize. Because we
- 6:46Speaker 1: don't know how much time we have left on this earth.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So don't wait for a special occasion. Don't wait for Christmas.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Don't wait for Thanksgiving. Don't wait for somebody's birthday to
- 6:57Speaker 1: tell them. Tell them on this Saturday morning. And don't
- 7:05Speaker 1: forget yourself. That's important too. Be grateful for who you are.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Not who somebody else wants you to be. Well, ladies
- 7:18Speaker 1: and gentlemen, that is going to do it for today's episode.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I greatly appreciate you all being here. I greatly appreciate
- 7:25Speaker 1: you all listening. Please be grateful. everything that we have
- 7:32Speaker 1: in this world. And be kind to someone. Make someone laugh.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And tell them just how much you care about them.
- 7:44Speaker 1: On that note, I will see you all in the
- 7:47Speaker 1: next episode. Thank you.
