Latest / The Lunch Rush with Trent Condon / Hawkeyes get past Maryland, Iowa State Historic Blow Out over ASU
Transcript
- 0:02Hi, welcome back Miller Condon, Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:05We begin. Iowa State up 30, check that 33.
- 0:09Jefferson just Canada 3. They're up 3313 minutes, 12 1/2
- 0:15minutes. Excuse me, left in that game.
- 0:17Iowa clings to 11 point lead, 27 seconds left in the game.
- 0:21Iowa basketball is Maryland calling off the dogs?
- 0:26They are and they are they. Terrapin Cover and a Hawkeye
- 0:29win. What was the number?
- 0:3111 1/2. Oh no.
- 0:35So. So you took the points.
- 0:36Of course I did. And Sean Roberts laid him.
- 0:39Then he laid 11 1/2. He does 11 1/2 or 12 1/2
- 0:42depending on when he got it. So either way, he's a loser,
- 0:45yes. Well, he's not a loser.
- 0:46His ticket doesn't cash. There it is, Iowa with the win
- 0:50but not the cover. As the Hawkeyes move on to the
- 0:53next round, they'll face Ohio State.
- 0:57Oh no, that's brutal. I don't.
- 1:01You hate it. Would you rather get blown out?
- 1:03When it comes down to that, yes. And basketball is by far the
- 1:06worst sport for this because it comes down to or you going to
- 1:09call the dogs and keep chucking. Look at Overtime and Lincoln the
- 1:13other day. Absolutely, if you have a
- 1:15Nebraska ticket -6 right. Well, this thing's done.
- 1:18Or is it? You know, as I come back and win
- 1:21it by 9. Unbelievable.
- 1:23Iowa. With the win though, they move
- 1:24on. A awful start to the ball game
- 1:26for them, but really started to click as it went on.
- 1:30We saw a huge run to begin the second-half.
- 1:32A 20 to nothing run for the Hawkeyes at one point in the
- 1:35second-half. This on didn't we see I was
- 1:37taking on a 23 to nothing run on Saturday?
- 1:39That is true, yes. Yes, the start of the and halves
- 1:42have been pretty good here lately afford both squads so
- 1:45ready to dig into the box score here a little bit I wanted.
- 1:48To ask you one question before I forget, it is pursuant to the
- 1:50Big 10 and I do want to get into the box score.
- 1:52I just don't want to forget about this and it's a Big 10
- 1:55team. Does Dana Altman coach his last
- 1:57game in Oregon? I don't know and.
- 2:00What they win They were 5 and 15 in.
- 2:03Conference something like. That got beat by 10 by this
- 2:05Maryland Outfit that we're watching right now.
- 2:08And it's over. By the way, in in Chicago, Iowa
- 2:10moves on. Fiddle was hurt.
- 2:13Yep. So there's something, right,
- 2:15There's something that you can point to and a pretty big reason
- 2:18that they struggled this year. Here's what I wonder, and I
- 2:22thought this because I flipped on Peacock yesterday and was
- 2:25watching a little bit of it, is seeing him on the sideline kind
- 2:29of. He looks old.
- 2:30Yeah, well, he is. He is, absolutely.
- 2:33That Arkansas coach Extent took a lot out of him.
- 2:35Absolutely. He was there for 48 hours.
- 2:38And Colin? The Hogs did not work out well
- 2:40for Dana Altman, but with him, what kind of investment are they
- 2:45making basketball? That's a great question.
- 2:48Obviously we know they aren't football.
- 2:51And they're well supported in general for all their athletic.
- 2:54Department, one would assume. With the Nike money, we know
- 2:56that, but in comparison? Well, they continue to because
- 2:58Phil Nice knows spring chicken, right?
- 3:00He's in his. He's got to be in his mid 80s.
- 3:02Doesn't he? Because my mind went to this
- 3:04direction. Is he just taking everything at
- 3:06this point, knowing that he's getting to the end?
- 3:09He loves basketball, he loves track.
- 3:11He loves a lot of things, yeah. Track is where you know he's an
- 3:14athlete. But football is the top of the,
- 3:19if he's saying sorry, everybody else, I am diverting everything
- 3:23possible to football, this needs to happen.
- 3:27This is the the final hurdle to throw the track in there for
- 3:32this athletic department because they've been there.
- 3:34They played for national championships, but they haven't
- 3:36won it. And just the importance of that
- 3:38in comparison to basketball to to everything else, that's what
- 3:41he wants to see. And if that's the case, maybe
- 3:44that's the reason we're seeing Oregon, because you look at that
- 3:46Oregon roster, it's certainly not impressive.
- 3:49No, no, I, I, I don't know what net series going to look like as
- 3:53a, you know, dabble. You go back to, you know, that
- 3:56team that beat Iowa in the second round of the NCAA
- 3:58tournament, Think of the dudes that were on that team and and
- 4:00that guys that they got that season to just how good they
- 4:03were. You don't see the same kind.
- 4:05Of no, no, no, no. For the Oregon team that they've
- 4:08had a lot of guys that have come through there and you know,
- 4:11Duarte was on that team and that guy was he was a four-star
- 4:14coming out of high school and they had some high level
- 4:15prospects and that's not the case with this Oregon team.
- 4:19Are they going to invest? Brought it back with Dana
- 4:21another year? Hey, here's a little bit more to
- 4:23spend. I don't know but I I had the
- 4:25same kind. Of thought as you.
- 4:26I'm going to look how old he is. I'm going to guess Dana.
- 4:30Phil Knight's 88, by the way. Jesus, Dana Altman's got to be.
- 4:34He's older than I am, 68. Let me look.
- 4:38I thought I was typing in the box, but I wasn't.
- 4:40Oh no, that's a problem. It is he's He'll be 68 in June.
- 4:4468 in June. 68 in June. Not a success.
- 4:48He's been at Oregon since 2011. Has he really?
- 4:512010 2011 Season. Well, Oregon doesn't move the
- 4:53needle, but they are big 10 schools, so that's why we
- 4:56brought it up. All right, Do you want instant
- 4:57react to what you saw? Let's get your take slow start.
- 5:01Yep. Little frustrating down at the.
- 5:03Half by 1 outscored them by a dozen in the second-half.
- 5:06As you can tell, it is not good for me to be live on the air
- 5:10when I was playing basketball. I've told you this before, Ken.
- 5:14This is still the team. More than Iowa football, more
- 5:19than the Twins, more than the Bears.
- 5:21I still get this. Is your passion.
- 5:23That ugly reaction. I am the ugly fan in game the
- 5:27most with Iowa basketball. No, I think that I think that
- 5:29just kind of personifies what kind of fan you are.
- 5:32That's your team that that's if you could only watch one of your
- 5:35teams, this would be where you are.
- 5:36It's Iowa basketball and I know it's the time frame that I grew
- 5:39up and it was the only sport we could watch in the winter during
- 5:41the week and and it was who went into it.
- 5:44Yes, there's a lot of reasons, a lot of layers behind it, but
- 5:47even as a guy to his mid 40s, they still pissed me off.
- 5:50And it's it's, it's really not good to be on the air.
- 5:54What is happening? Because I was freaking out
- 5:56during the first half as we're going out of the air and they're
- 5:58playing like, crap, you heard me.
- 5:59And I'm swearing at my phone as we're watching.
- 6:01I'm watching it on my phone. They just, I still get that and
- 6:04I love that I still have that kind of passion because you also
- 6:07know people in this business that don't have that.
- 6:10I mean, it gets jaded, yes, absolutely.
- 6:13And I don't have that with Iowa basketball.
- 6:15But when they start clicking and it's Cooper Koch, the Cooper
- 6:20Koch story. Five of eight from 3:00 today.
- 6:22And when they were opening things up and took that lead
- 6:24into double figures, it was Cooper Koch and it was also bet
- 6:27it starts fighting him. You look at the box.
- 6:29Score 6 of 18 from the floor for Bennett Stern. 2 and 9 from 3.
- 6:33We were both watching when he hit the 2nd 3 pointer because
- 6:36we're both looking down and. We're both watching when he
- 6:38threw up a three pointer late that didn't even DRY.
- 6:40Iron, he looks tired, plays 39 minutes, got a little break in
- 6:45the first half of that one. Now going to have to turn around
- 6:47with an early start tomorrow against the Buckeyes.
- 6:50He was plus 12. But yeah, it's caught shooting
- 6:52the basketball. They're a different team.
- 6:54We talked about the secondary scoring.
- 6:55They need other people to step up and in this one they got
- 6:57other people. This is also a bad Maryland
- 6:59team. It is.
- 7:00Don't let what we saw, I think. Manual has played well, you
- 7:05know, down the street. He's playing, I think his best
- 7:07basketball of the year. The way they use him at the top
- 7:10and the top of the key when they get him the ball there.
- 7:12His ability to, he just understands kind of the game at
- 7:17a high level for a big guy. He doesn't handle it great, but
- 7:20he knows what he's doing. Passing the ball, staying away
- 7:22from the sloppy turnovers. You know, Iowa had 11 and it
- 7:25felt like they had 11 in the 1st 8 minutes of the game.
- 7:28They did. Trent, is that what they
- 7:30finished up with? They had 11, They had eight.
- 7:33I think it was at halftime and it felt like it was just, it was
- 7:37right there from the get go. They were playing at that sloppy
- 7:39level. Banks was good.
- 7:41I saw him a couple of different times around the rim.
- 7:44Made the only three pointer that he tried.
- 7:46This is the blueprint here. This is the blueprint.
- 7:49It's difficult to replicate what you did against Maryland against
- 7:51everybody else because the competition is just going to get
- 7:54deeper. Absolutely.
- 7:56Starting with Ohio State and that Ohio State team, we saw
- 7:59them probably their worst game the last.
- 8:01Month and Iowa's best game. Came in that game that we saw in
- 8:06Iowa City a couple of weeks back.
- 8:07I mean, you look at Ohio State and what they've done now
- 8:10recently, the Buckeyes three straight wins, including
- 8:14throttling Purdue, you know, beating the crap out of Indiana.
- 8:17They went to Penn State and won by 32.
- 8:21They also have a win recently against Wisconsin.
- 8:24They have a win against USC before the wheels had completely
- 8:28fallen off. So give me their, give me their
- 8:30losses. Say what?
- 8:32How many losses did they have? They had eight losses in
- 8:34conference. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:37They won 12 and eight in the Big 10.
- 8:39So going all the way back, they lost to Illinois.
- 8:41Was that back in December? That was the December game.
- 8:44Yep, they lost in Nebraska at Washington.
- 8:47All right at Michigan. OK, can understand at Wisconsin.
- 8:52I can understand Michigan again, all right at Michigan State, not
- 8:56Iowa. They don't have a clunk.
- 8:58They they really don't do they like Iowa now the clunker came
- 9:00in non conference when they lost a pit.
- 9:02But outside of that, this resume is a lot better than I How how
- 9:07are they? How are they struggling just
- 9:08barely above the cut line? This team should be in absolute
- 9:11luck. I wonder metrically what it is
- 9:14I'm going to bring up the. Because they they beat
- 9:15Wisconsin, they got some good. Wins in there they do.
- 9:19Have some good wins in there. They a nice win over Purdue.
- 9:22So they're NCAA team sheet. This is with all the metrics,
- 9:26the result based metrics, this is wins above bubble, bubble
- 9:29that we've heard a ton. They're 35th in that metric,
- 9:31straight to record 36 predictive.
- 9:34Much better. Like Iowa, they're kind of in
- 9:35the same boat. 26 at Ken Palm, 23rd at Bartorvic.
- 9:40Is there an anchor holding them down?
- 9:41There really isn't What will the?
- 9:43Point spread be tomorrow on this game.
- 9:45That is a good question. I will find it for you here.
- 9:48And do you remember what it was when they came to Iowa City at
- 9:50the end of February? Iowa was laying more than I
- 9:54thought they should. 7 1/2. Was it that big?
- 9:56Yeah. Let's see here.
- 9:59Iowa is favored by a point at Kenpom, so which should be
- 10:03around there? I don't get this resume at all.
- 10:06The. The fact that there is it kind
- 10:08of in a purgatory right now, you mean?
- 10:11Because for the longest time, remember they didn't have a quad
- 10:13one victory. That was a big part of it is
- 10:16they didn't have a quad one win. Well, now they have one against
- 10:19Purdue, they have one against Wisconsin.
- 10:22They even have a road one against Northwestern.
- 10:24That was the one that flipped when Wisconsin, our Northwestern
- 10:27had upset Indiana. That became their first quad one
- 10:29win. They got three of them.
- 10:30Now they're 3 and 10 against quad one.
- 10:32I guess that's the knock. A lot of opportunities and only
- 10:35three victories. But when I look at that resume
- 10:37this. Will be a tough spot for Iowa
- 10:39tomorrow. It is.
- 10:40They took Bruce Thornton completely out of that game too.
- 10:43We remember that. And the way that that game
- 10:45played out is Kale Combs was it up on and they didn't allow him
- 10:49to get the ball. And when he did get the ball,
- 10:51they double teamed, They hedged hard.
- 10:53Now I'm going to guess the diebler is going to have a
- 10:55counter to that. I would like to think that's the
- 10:57case, Trent, yes. Not not.
- 10:58To be honest, I don't love him. I think Jake Diebler sucks.
- 11:01Do you? I mean you talk about a guy that
- 11:03should not over matched, Yes, in comparison, look through the Big
- 11:0710 coaches. Yeah, one of these coaches just
- 11:10doesn't belong here. One of these coaches, just not
- 11:12the same. Where would you rate Jake
- 11:14Diebler in the Big 10 XS and OS? Putting a program together?
- 11:19I mean, look. I would defer to you on that,
- 11:20but he's not one of the the most one of the elite basketball
- 11:24minds That first comes pops into your head when you're talking
- 11:27about that. Brad Underwood, Darren Devries,
- 11:30Ben McCullum, Buzz Williams. Dusty May, Tom Izzel, Nico
- 11:34Medved, Fred Hoiberg, Chris Collins, Dana Altman, Mike
- 11:39Rhodes. Maybe there's one painter.
- 11:42See Pikel. I like Pikel.
- 11:44Yes. Mick Cronin, Eric Musselman,
- 11:47Danny Sprinkle. Gregard.
- 11:49At best. He's 16th I think at best.
- 11:53Maybe. Back, back to the beginning of
- 11:54the conversation. He'll probably come up with
- 11:56something in a staff. All right?
- 11:58This is how we're going to counter what they did with Combs
- 12:01and the double teams against Bruce Thornton.
- 12:03Bruce Thornton's a stud. He didn't look like it in Iowa
- 12:06City. I completely what?
- 12:07Did they hold him to that game? Do you remember?
- 12:10Did he get the double digits box?
- 12:11Score, by the way, Iowa State. They're they're up 30.
- 12:15Nine, 8 1/2 minutes. 723339. This had to be a double digit
- 12:23spread obviously. Do you want to tip that was it
- 12:2514131215? Well, I bet this one, so let me
- 12:30see. I mean, talk about a no sweat if
- 12:32you're on Iowa State and you laid the points.
- 12:34It was 11 1/2. That's all.
- 12:37That's what I laid at Circa this morning at about 8:55.
- 12:41Do is it still can you still see the money splits?
- 12:45Did they get much action on Arizona State?
- 12:49Let's see, let's bring up you're We're on the fly.
- 12:52Today, yeah, there's nobody listening.
- 12:54Well, there is people. That's 'cause yes, yes, yes.
- 12:57Welcome, by the way, glad you're with us.
- 12:58Absolutely. All right, college basketball
- 13:01lines. Let's get to the betting splits.
- 13:03How many people were firing away today at the Sun Devils?
- 13:0865% of the money, Iowa State, 57% of the tickets, it's like
- 13:1243% of those people are going to be losers on those tickets.
- 13:15It did close at 13 1/2. So yeah, there was some Iowa
- 13:18State's team that came in from. And you got it at 11 1/2?
- 13:21When did you get it? It was either, it was last night
- 13:24because I bet both Iowa and Iowa State.
- 13:25Well, I bet Maryland and Iowa State last night when they came
- 13:28out. We wanted to hear the betting
- 13:31split for the Iowa game. Yeah, about even 57% on
- 13:36Maryland, but 78% of the money was on the Terrapins as they get
- 13:40the cover. Really. 11 1/2 the closing
- 13:42number? Just too many points.
- 13:44They were proven right. Was it everywhere?
- 13:4711 1/2 is that where did it close?
- 13:49Everywhere. Everywhere.
- 13:50It looks like. Yeah, 11 1/2 at every single
- 13:52spot. Get the right number though.
- 13:55Yeah, that's what it's all about in a lot of ways.
- 13:58Absolutely. Get the right side of things and
- 13:59you're going to be good. What were we?
- 14:00Oh, we're looking at the box score.
- 14:02The first time that they Ohio State and Iowa played, Bruce
- 14:05Thornton played 37 minutes, had 10 points, three of eight from
- 14:10the floor, a whole of two from behind the arc, only two assists
- 14:142. He's much better than that.
- 14:16Yes, much better than that. They also they were playing that
- 14:19game without Tilly, their big guy.
- 14:22Oh, I remember that, I remember that.
- 14:24Will he play tomorrow? Yeah, he's back out there.
- 14:26He played in the next three games he played in.
- 14:29So he just missed the Iowa game. He's back on the floor.
- 14:31Yep, 20 minutes. Doesn't make a difference.
- 14:32Yes, he plays 20 minutes a game. He scored 7:10 and 7:00 the last
- 14:37three times out. He's a big body.
- 14:39He's a big dude. Christopher Tilly, the Big
- 14:41German. Listed at 7 foot 240.
- 14:45Thick that will be different inside so man.
- 14:49The average on the year he averaged 11:00 and 11:00 and
- 14:53just under 5. Also remember at that time both
- 14:56Royal and Mobley were coming off of.
- 14:58But Royal played pretty well in that.
- 15:00Game he did, yeah. He was about the only one on the
- 15:03team that did play well in that game.
- 15:04Mobley had a couple of three pointers, as he does, 'cause
- 15:06that guy can shoot it. But I think what if almost this
- 15:08could be a tough heel fry? Yes, it is.
- 15:10One guy was sick and 1 was injured.
- 15:12I think that's what it was. But regardless, don't just think
- 15:16it's going to be replicating what you saw.
- 15:18Plus, the Buckeyes are playing well.
- 15:19They're playing good basketball here down the strike.
- 15:21Well, the the saving grace in this, if we think Sturtz is
- 15:23tired, he was. He was on the bench for a
- 15:25minute. He only played 39 out of the 40
- 15:28minutes. Combs played 38.
- 15:31Koch was in there for 33 full Garris.
- 15:33You know what he played that was against Ohio State?
- 15:38I don't know. We'll we shall see and I will
- 15:43will be a slight, slight favorite in the basketball game
- 15:46tomorrow. But that's what it's currently
- 15:48at. How about Isaiah Howard?
- 15:49The performance that he had makes all the shots, including a
- 15:52three pointer. That was not the traditional
- 15:56Airball 3 from Isaiah Howard that we're used to.
- 15:58That's about two feet deep. Not the case of this one.
- 16:00He has couple rebounds, 3 assists, only one turnover.
- 16:05And he's still 2 years left. He's a sophomore.
- 16:08He's a sophomore, correct? Yes, fool Garris gave him a
- 16:10little something off the bench in this one, but 19 assists on
- 16:1427 made field goals shared the ball well, I like it, including
- 16:17eight from Bennett Sturtz. And finished with 11 turnovers.
- 16:2111 turnovers as a team and I just had the first half box
- 16:24score when they finished with six turnovers in the first half.
- 16:29Felt like it was a ton more a ton more during the first half
- 16:32of this one. Still, Iowa gets it done.
- 16:35No worries about Dayton. Now we can put that to bed.
- 16:37It's. Too bad.
- 16:40Not too. Bad, I know, but they're going
- 16:41to get an 8 or the 8-9 game and anyway, all right, so one more
- 16:44since we're kind of talking Hawks.
- 16:47Caitlin Clark plays today really on true TV.
- 16:50OK, I think it's true TV. It's a it's an international
- 16:54event. Oh, with Team USA?
- 16:56Yeah, with Team USA, Gotcha. And they played today.
- 16:58I think it's late afternoon. I saw.
- 17:03I want to see. I'm going to try.
- 17:03I mean, I don't know what else is going to be going on.
- 17:05If there's a Big 10 or Big 12 game that moves the needle a
- 17:08little bit, but I might at least pay attention to the box score.
- 17:11It's been a long time. She's just played.
- 17:13That's true, Yeah. The weird shutdown last season.
- 17:15Did they come to an agreement? I thought yesterday was the
- 17:18deadline. WNBAI think I thought yesterday
- 17:22in order to make the beginning of the season they had set
- 17:27yesterday as a deadline to come to an agreement amongst the
- 17:31players Association and the league.
- 17:32They did miss the deadline yesterday.
- 17:34So they won't start the league, they won't start the season on.
- 17:36Well, they got it done today. Right, right.
- 17:40The deadline has passed. But yes, absolutely, if they
- 17:42even get it done. Did they negotiate into the wee
- 17:44hours? Do you know I meant to?
- 17:45Look at that, dammit. Let's see.
- 17:47This is from ESPN, says that they what we're hearing on WNBA
- 17:53negotiations. Two sides did meet Tuesday
- 17:56evening in New York. Meeting lasted 12 hours into
- 17:59Wednesday morning. So they're trying, but obviously
- 18:03no deal that is happening there. They can't have a lockout.
- 18:07Try it. If they do, there there, there's
- 18:08this. On both sides.
- 18:11They're cutting off their nose to spite their face.
- 18:13You finally have momentum to sleep for the first time in 1/4
- 18:16century. They've never had it before.
- 18:19You had the initial bump when it launched.
- 18:21You also had that NBC backing, which helped when the NBA
- 18:23mattered at the time. They got good numbers their
- 18:26initial and then they fell off a Cliff as happened with the XFL.
- 18:30A lot of new leagues we see this.
- 18:31You get that initial bump and then reality sense in and the
- 18:34reality for the last 25 years in the WNBA has nobody watched
- 18:38until 22 showed up and how people are watching.
- 18:41And that's just watching Caitlin Clark.
- 18:43The league has no, it's expanded.
- 18:44I mean, they're, it's how the fandom has expanded.
- 18:47Everybody now watching the sport, you're building the sport
- 18:49up and then you can have a labor stoppage regardless of.
- 18:53Worst thing that could happen? Yes.
- 18:55What side it's coming from. It's awful on both sides.
- 18:59You have to find a way. When you finally have momentum,
- 19:02you have to do it. Doesn't sound good right now.
- 19:04No, it doesn't. All right, take your time out.
- 19:06I'm going to try Chef and Wade looking Bill, see if he can come
- 19:08on because he was in the building.
- 19:10Let's get him for a few minutes, hopefully on the other side get
- 19:13his instant reaction to that game.
- 19:15Iowa State, they are up 40. They're up 407737 to make it. 41
- 19:23on the main free throw. No, no, the other way.
- 19:25It was the other way. 3939 What is this?
- 19:31I wonder how many Cyclone fans are there.
- 19:33It didn't look like it was filled in a ton, but it's
- 19:35Wednesday. Well, if if they're not there
- 19:37now, there will be by this time tomorrow.
- 19:39I would assume when they'll play Texas Tech.
- 19:41And certainly when. Does TJ get the starters off
- 19:43there? It looks like they're still
- 19:44playing. Bateman's in, Buchanan is in,
- 19:47there's Lipsy still in, there's Jefferson Monchilovich, so
- 19:51they're all on the floor. Probably about time, right?
- 19:54Yeah, you would think 6/6 and 1/2 to play time to get them out
- 19:56there. You mentioned coming up this
- 19:58afternoon. Is there anything that catches
- 20:00you? USC Washington's the next Big 10
- 20:02tournament game. No.
- 20:04ACCI. Like, I like Steinbach a lot for
- 20:06Washington. Oh yeah, as you do.
- 20:08SMU Louisville No, no. SCC get started at 2:00.
- 20:13What do we got? Mississippi State against
- 20:15Auburn? No, Little Stevie Pearl no,
- 20:19doesn't do it for you. Doesn't what?
- 20:21What have we got in the Big 10? There's only one game in the
- 20:23Big, of course there's only one game.
- 20:25It's it's the USC game. Yes, USC, Washington, that's
- 20:29coming up. Big 12, we're going to get
- 20:31served up next. Cincinnati, UCF, sneaky good
- 20:36game. That's the one.
- 20:37Because I keep trying to get Cincinnati in the tournament,
- 20:40they're not going to get in there.
- 20:41I think send is where's Central Florida?
- 20:43Are they in? They're on the right side of the
- 20:45bubble. They're on the right side of the
- 20:46bubble. Yep.
- 20:46So you root for Central Florida may not root.
- 20:48Just to lock up another bid, Yeah.
- 20:50And for UCF, I think a win there.
- 20:52I like Central Florida. I like Cincinnati.
- 20:55Keep them out of date and I think for UCF too if they get
- 20:57that victory. What game's that tip or what
- 21:00time's that game? Tip 2:00, right after the Iowa
- 21:02State game. That'll be the next one up.
- 21:04Yeah, I think that's where the intrigue is not a great.
- 21:07To see Team USA have. To get a start time on that.
- 21:11I think it's 330 trend. I think it's around there.
- 21:13Then this evening in the conference tournaments.
- 21:15I'm going to watch the Minnesota game, the Minnesota that's late.
- 21:18It's it's 8:00 tip. That's the 8:00 tip.
- 21:21And they play Rutgers. Yes, you're going to be involved
- 21:24in that. That's where I was.
- 21:25That's where I plan to spend tonight.
- 21:26Well, how about you start your evening?
- 21:29What's the Big 12 serving up? The Big 12 is going to give you
- 21:33as I scroll through here, what is the next game in the Big 12?
- 21:37Oh, BYU, West Virginia. All right, and the Big 10 will
- 21:39have what, at 6:00? 6:00 Big 10 will have the
- 21:43Indiana Hoosiers trying to end A6 game losing streak against
- 21:47Northwestern. I you know what?
- 21:48I'm going to watch that game. I am too.
- 21:50Yeah, I'm going to watch that. Game like watching Martinelli.
- 21:52And I love Martinelli. Yes.
- 21:53Did he finish as the leading scorer in the conference?
- 21:55He was there the whole year, Trent, the whole year.
- 21:58Martinelli was, I mean on a bad basketball team, was leading the
- 22:02Big 10 in scoring. And he did.
- 22:04He finished up on top. Good for him, yeah.
- 22:06Beat Wilkerson in the end 22.8 per game for Martinelli
- 22:10Wilkerson. Rodney Rice, though he only
- 22:12played in six games, was the third leading scorer in the
- 22:15league. And they still list him.
- 22:16Yeah, and. 3rd in the league of guys that actually played.
- 22:20Bet it starts 20.2. All right, we'll take.
- 22:23Not very good though, according to SIP.
- 22:25I had him yesterday. You, you had to push back.
- 22:27You were not. You no, no, no.
- 22:29I I agreed with SIP, I agreed with Sip and I disagreed with
- 22:32Sip. What what Sip said was he's not
- 22:35better than Steve Smith. He's not better than.
- 22:37He's not better than that, Pierce.
- 22:39Right, right. And those were the guys that
- 22:42were included in the conversation.
- 22:44So I agreed with him on this. At the same time, I said, sip,
- 22:47he's the Most Valuable Player in the conference and Sip agree,
- 22:52SIP agree he's and and kind of like what we saw today.
- 22:56We saw his Sip thought it was a tired Bennett Sturtz.
- 22:58He didn't have his best game. So I think what he said, it came
- 23:03out wrong and he kind of felt like he had a little mea culpa.
- 23:09Yesterday. All right.
- 23:10From from sip, but when when I saw the players that were that
- 23:14he listed OK, Sip, you're right. If you only consider those,
- 23:18those are the only right college basketball players that have
- 23:20come through there, yes. And I think that's how we put
- 23:23it, yes. And Sturtz isn't one of those.
- 23:24OK, you're right about that. Yeah, but he's a hell of a
- 23:27player. Now, he also threw Cassius
- 23:28Winston in that mix. No, he's a good.
- 23:30I mean, Cassius Winston, didn't he?
- 23:31He was a good player. Didn't his team have some
- 23:33success though? Did they?
- 23:34How far did they go? Did he win the national
- 23:36championship? No.
- 23:37A Big 10 championship? Yeah, they must have.
- 23:39Oh, maybe. Probably they did win a big
- 23:41trend championship. No, it's been our national
- 23:44championships been too long. But Team Cleaves was the last
- 23:46point guard to win a national championship in the Big 10.
- 23:49But no, he he was, he was sip. I like SIP.
- 23:53Yeah, I like SIP too. I like give it sip a hard time.
- 23:56No, I know. Will you continue to have sip
- 23:59on? Oh, absolutely.
- 24:00Even Nebraska, maybe not weekly or whatever.
- 24:02Yeah, maybe. Bi weekly something like that
- 24:03yeah we'll we'll definitely get sip in the mix though not going
- 24:06to have them for like the central we.
- 24:07Got that Sioux? City of Phil, we need to do
- 24:09that. Absolutely.
- 24:10Might be making a call over to Condon Auto, see what we can do
- 24:13over there. Is there one?
- 24:14There's a dealership, Yeah, with my last name.
- 24:16But they don't. I mean, are you looking for a
- 24:17spokesman? Well.
- 24:18What's better? And if you're looking for a new
- 24:20vehicle over in the western part of the state, that's right, no
- 24:23further than Condon Auto where their deals are real.
- 24:26Who is that here? That was.
- 24:28I don't remember that one. It was the Ford dealership on
- 24:348th. Street.
- 24:35Oh yeah, you're going way. Back.
- 24:36No, no, no, I'm not. It was it was.
- 24:38It was the tall black dude. The spokesman, the gal from
- 24:41Channel 13, was married to him. You're speaking.
- 24:45No, I want to get this. I want my I want my brain to
- 24:48work. OK.
- 24:51Just off 235 on 8th St. there was a Ford dealership right
- 24:55across the street from Jimmy's American Grill, or I think it
- 24:58was Jimmy's. Yeah, it was Jimmy.
- 25:00Oh, he's on the tip of my tongue.
- 25:01That dealership was not there when.
- 25:03I I'm not sure it's, I'm not sure it's still.
- 25:04Well, it's not because 20 years ago when I moved here, it
- 25:07wasn't. All it had to have been 20 years
- 25:09ago. Yeah, I think it is. 8th St. and
- 25:12235 big dude. You lost me.
- 25:18Married to Courtney Maxwell. OK, don't know that name.
- 25:21She was. At Channel 13, our deals are
- 25:26real. Thank you.
- 25:27Jeff Holdorf, Franklin Green. Yeah, that sounds me.
- 25:31You don't me or our deals are real.
- 25:35God, when there's no sports to talk about, folks, this is where
- 25:37we get to Miller and Condon. Glad you're with us on the Iowa
- 25:40Sports Radio Network. Hillary Khan did welcome back
- 25:48Iowa Sports Radio Network clones by 44.
- 25:52Incredible. It truly is the Arizona State
- 25:54guys, some tears coming down as they're making their way to the
- 25:56bench. Check that 47.
- 26:00This will help out their metrics immensely.
- 26:03God, let's go to Chicago. Wade Lookingbill was in the
- 26:06United Center. Former Hawkeye Wade Lookingbill,
- 26:08who joined me prior to the tournament getting under way
- 26:11before he made his way to the Windy City.
- 26:14Boy wasn't the start that Hawkeye fans wanted to see, but
- 26:17once they got things rolling, it was look out below.
- 26:21Nice win for Iowa as they move on to take Ohio State.
- 26:24How was the crowd? First of all, Wade, what was the
- 26:27building like? Yeah, Hey, guys.
- 26:29You know what, not a lot of Maryland fans as you would
- 26:32probably expect. There were maybe 11, you know,
- 26:36maybe double, double digits. But I was I was pretty strong.
- 26:40I was pretty strong. I I think it's something where
- 26:42every game now it's going to be a little more, a little more,
- 26:45you know, and that that early games are always tough because,
- 26:48you know, it's just it's just an early start.
- 26:50So guys don't want to come to that one if they're going to be
- 26:52there for the afternoon. But so I'll win for the Hawks,
- 26:55survive in advance, and you know, we'll see about tomorrow.
- 26:57Absolutely. We saw Bennett Sturt took a
- 26:59break during the first half, something that is a reality as
- 27:02he sat over just a minute officially in the box score in
- 27:06this one couple of times, not a lot of lift, had an air ball and
- 27:09an open 3 pointer during the second-half of this one.
- 27:13Betting starts, he doesn't get tired, but boy, looking a little
- 27:17bit worn down here at the end of the season.
- 27:18What have you seen from the Hawkeye point guard?
- 27:22Yeah, Ken and I talked about that yesterday.
- 27:24I think it's something where the physicality in this league is
- 27:29different than what he's seen at the levels he's been at before.
- 27:32I think that's one thing. I think there's a lot of tape
- 27:36out there on him now where there wasn't, you know, when they
- 27:38faced UCLA and and Donovan Denton, he had 22 in the
- 27:43second-half of that game. That was two or three months
- 27:45ago, but I don't know what he finished with, but 18-7 and
- 27:49eight or something like that. And I thought it with a solid
- 27:52win and it was something where the game wasn't super fast 1/2
- 27:56time for longer now in these tournaments, you know, I, I, I
- 28:00think he'll be fine. And I thought the team looked
- 28:02looked really good today. Cooper Koch making his shots,
- 28:05It's good to see. It's not the first time he's
- 28:07been doing. He's kind of, you know, he had
- 28:08that low, right, Wade, early February when his shots weren't
- 28:12falling. He's starting to get concerned,
- 28:14at least I was. But as of late, Koch is doing
- 28:18what everybody knew he could do and that was make some threes.
- 28:21And he's been really good as of late.
- 28:23Yeah, you know, and we again, he's a freshman, you know, you
- 28:26forget it's a long season. You know, he played, what, six
- 28:29or seven games last year then shut it down.
- 28:31So this is his first year being in that, you know, practice
- 28:35starts October 15th at the Grind.
- 28:37We're traveling over break, you know, all this stuff that's
- 28:40going on. So I think he got a little
- 28:42tired, but boy, he was good again today.
- 28:44Like he was good at Nebraska. And, you know, if it was a game
- 28:48they won and, and Bennett didn't get 33, you know, and Maryland's
- 28:52got some dudes, they got some athletes and that's that start
- 28:55of that second-half, They looked really good.
- 28:58Got it going. It was a lot of Cooper catch
- 29:00knocking out three pointers on top of it.
- 29:01Also getting to the rim and Wade, our conversations, you
- 29:05know this team, they're still not a great 3 point shooting
- 29:08team. They're OK, but that is not
- 29:09their best. I think they're at their best
- 29:11when they're getting to the rim, when they're getting into the
- 29:14paint and it doesn't have to be a layup every time or a dunk
- 29:16every time, but just getting in there closer.
- 29:19They've been incredibly effective in this one, including
- 29:21today. 36 points in the paint against a pretty big Maryland
- 29:24team. I still maintain that's the key
- 29:26for success. Too much relying on the
- 29:28three-point shot doesn't seem like the best idea for this Iowa
- 29:31team. Yeah, that's the start of that
- 29:33second-half. They ran that pick and roll with
- 29:35Cam Manuel two or three times, like he got a dunk, got a foul,
- 29:40you know, just kind of set the tone at that first half.
- 29:42They were having to work really hard for their baskets and and I
- 29:46I think there's an advantage for Maryland having played
- 29:49yesterday, you know, they you know that it's just a quick turn
- 29:52around. Iowa looked a little rusty that
- 29:54first really that first 15 minutes, I think they were down
- 29:562010 or 12 points. But and you know, it's something
- 30:00where they they they beat a pretty good team that that's got
- 30:04some decent wins without Bennett going crazy.
- 30:08Pulgaris wasn't great today, but he didn't have to be.
- 30:10But again, it was Tavian Banks, our Cam manual stuff, Cooper Cox
- 30:13like he talked about. And of course, you know Bennett
- 30:15did his thing. Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 30:17Well, let's Fast forward to Ohio State.
- 30:19As Trent and I talked about in the first hour when it seemed as
- 30:22though I was going to, you know, put this game away, that might
- 30:25have been. I was.
- 30:26One of their best games of the year is when the Buckeyes
- 30:28visited Carver Hawkeye. The big guy is back for for Ohio
- 30:32State, this will be a different look tougher game tomorrow than
- 30:35the one that took place a couple of weeks back.
- 30:38Yeah, I think so. We we were in Iowa City for that
- 30:40game that that Wednesday against the house.
- 30:43It was just a weird feel house. It looked like a JVT and they
- 30:46just look lost. But give Iowa some credit cuz I
- 30:49think it was something that they did defensively against that
- 30:52team. Bruce Thornton is a load.
- 30:54I mean he is a big, strong dude and they got McDonald's all
- 30:57Americans on that team. That being said, I think it's a
- 31:00good match up for Iowa. I think it's something where you
- 31:03know, their, their bakes can't come out and, and guard Fulgaris
- 31:07or Cooper Koch on Iowa's offensive end.
- 31:10Now they're they're big and strong inside with their
- 31:12rebounding, but I like the match ups.
- 31:14But they can that one and then, you know, Michigan the next day,
- 31:19you know, see what happens. I think it's house money at that
- 31:22point. And and even if they come out
- 31:24tomorrow, lose a close one, that's not the worst thing in
- 31:28the world. You know, I just, I just like
- 31:30the way they're putting pieces together, putting things
- 31:33together and and it's just another solid win.
- 31:36It was it was ugly the 1st 15 minutes, but it's the Iowa way.
- 31:41We're we got to head down to Kansas City as Iowa State has
- 31:44wrapped up. They just crush Arizona State.
- 31:47Where's where? Where's That's unbelievable.
- 31:49Where's dinner tonight in Chicago?
- 31:51Yeah, where you, you know, we got to figure something out.
- 31:53We get well, we got to walk our dog, We travel with our dog.
- 31:56Nice. Let's get Jimmy John's for
- 31:58lunch. Yeah, Jimmy John's.
- 31:59And then we got snow flurries here, So.
- 32:01But I'm sure we'll find something.
- 32:03It's hard not to in Chicago. Good stuff.
- 32:05Way looking, Bill. Thanks for popping on buddy.
- 32:06Appreciate. It, Yeah.
- 32:07Thanks guys. All right, Appreciate it.
- 32:08Thank you. Bye.
- 32:09Bye. Good to talk to you.
- 32:11This from Jeff Holdorf. Most lopsided win in Big 12
- 32:13tournament plays, 4343 point margin.
- 32:17That record has fallen by the wayside.
- 32:20Final 9142 Iowa State with the victory now taking a look at
- 32:27some of the box score numbers from this one you talk about
- 32:29ridiculous I can only. Imagine.
- 32:32So Iowa State shoots 51% from the floor and 32 percent on the
- 32:37other side for Arizona State. So not a a big difference
- 32:41between the two. How about Arizona State though
- 32:43going one of 19 from the three-point line, 1 of 19 from
- 32:48behind the arc for the Sun Devils.
- 32:50Iowa State counters 10 of 25 from back behind there. 23
- 32:54turnovers also for Arizona State, as it was ugly, ugly,
- 32:59ugly, though the game was tied for two minutes and two seconds.
- 33:03Let's go down there. Alec Bussey, of course, mornings
- 33:05with Heather on the first quarter in the 24/7 sport.
- 33:09Alec, thanks for giving me a few, giving us a few minutes as
- 33:11you head down to the post game interviews.
- 33:14What a lopsider, what a laugher. To begin Big 12 conference play.
- 33:18Let me start a safe question and ask Wade, he's in Chicago.
- 33:21Cyclone fans, have they made their way to Kansas City yet or
- 33:24will they be coming in mass now in advance of the Texas Tech
- 33:28game? What was the building like,
- 33:29Alec? Yeah, I mean, there was
- 33:31definitely, I would say fans there to celebrate the big win.
- 33:33I mean, can't think of a better way to start the Big 12
- 33:35tournament for Iowa State with a just clear dominant win.
- 33:39I mean, there's no other adjectives to describe what I
- 33:42would say just did Arizona State and just completely dominant.
- 33:45And I think the cycle and fans were in attendance were able to
- 33:47come see it and enjoy it and there was a good amount.
- 33:49And if I would say continues to play, more and more of them are
- 33:51going to show up inside of T-Mobile Center.
- 33:53Yeah, it builds and we see that year after year when they make
- 33:55those of the people. Well, I couldn't get Thursday
- 33:57off, I couldn't get Friday off, but they could even make it for
- 34:00the Champions chip game. With that, it would be 4 games
- 34:03in four days if they're going to get to a championship game.
- 34:06Ken and I looked up at one point, there was like 6 1/2
- 34:08minutes left. The starters were still in
- 34:10there. They're like 40.
- 34:11OK, kind of what's going on? Still looking.
- 34:13Nobody played more than 31 minutes in the game.
- 34:15That was Jeff Jefferson and Manchilovich, who both played
- 34:183130 out of Lipsy. It doesn't feel like that big of
- 34:21a deal, but Texas Tech tomorrow certainly going to be one That
- 34:24path though, four wins in four days.
- 34:27Do you think this Cyclone team has it in them?
- 34:30Yeah, I mean, it's a really difficult path if I would say
- 34:32it's going to get there. I mean, I think the Texas Tech
- 34:34match up tomorrow that I would say just want its way into is a
- 34:38pretty difficult match up for the Cyclones from their
- 34:40defensive perspectives. The way that Texas Tech attacks
- 34:43teams offensively is kind of a difficult match up for Iowa
- 34:46State. Red Raiders move the ball all
- 34:48over the floor. They hit the week sized shooter
- 34:51and because I would say it almost over rotates defensively,
- 34:53it leaves the weak side of the floor open for shooters.
- 34:55So I think that's one of the reasons why you saw Texas Tech
- 34:58make 14 three pointers in the first matchup between these two
- 35:01teams. And I would say it's going to
- 35:03have to be better with his rotations.
- 35:05I remember hearing TJ Alzberg and their players speak after
- 35:09the first matchup between these two teams saying that he felt
- 35:12like the players felt like the rotations needed to be better.
- 35:15I think that's an accurate assumption that I would say it's
- 35:17going to have to focus on that better against Texas Tech here
- 35:20tomorrow. Once you get to your post game,
- 35:23Blake Buchanan, how would you? How would you?
- 35:25What would you say about his game today?
- 35:28Yeah, I mean, I think it was probably the best game of the
- 35:29year. I think it was for. 17 points,
- 35:31that's the season high for him. He also had six rebounds for the
- 35:34Cyclones pose great energy. Obviously had another dust up
- 35:38with Osama Jopp on the inside. He's obviously someone who it's
- 35:43going to be highly paid, I guess you'd say if you're an easy.
- 35:46I've had an opportunity here in the last four days to get a
- 35:49couple technical fouls against the Iowa State had the hard foul
- 35:52on Buchanan here today under the rim on a dunk attempt for for
- 35:57the Iowa State center. But yeah, Blake McCann was
- 36:00awesome today when he plays that well and when Iowa State plays
- 36:02that well, they certainly capable of playing deep into
- 36:05March and. Potentially in April.
- 36:07Go do your thing. Thanks for giving us a couple of
- 36:09minutes out. Appreciate it.
- 36:11Yeah. Thank you, guys.
- 36:11Have a great day. Yep, you're the same.
- 36:13Alec Bussey, 24/7 Sports, cyclonealert.com and of course,
- 36:18mornings with Heather Burnside. First quarter 6 until 9 Iowa
- 36:22State Texas Tech line tomorrow would be what?
- 36:25Great question. Now, I do not believe baked in
- 36:29JT Toppen, though we asked he's only about a one point.
- 36:33Does that did that surprise you? Yes.
- 36:35Me. Too, I thought it was going to
- 36:37be about as significant of one as.
- 36:39Could be, yeah. But not the case.
- 36:42We overtime a lot of times overrate those injuries and what
- 36:46they mean for teams. Currently, Ken Palm has his
- 36:49rating at 3. Iowa State, a three-point
- 36:52favorite on the neutral. Floor.
- 36:54Somewhere around that. Somewhere around there.
- 36:57Maybe 3 1/2, four and a half, you know, in that range.
- 37:00I, I wouldn't be shocked by that.
- 37:02Plus, what do you throw in this? I mean, you talk about betting
- 37:04public. People are going to want to jump
- 37:05on a team that won't. Oh yeah, that's a great point.
- 37:08We know betting public, yeah, The way that they're very
- 37:11quickly swayed on things and what happened lately, that
- 37:14matters almost more than anything when it comes to
- 37:16gambling. Did NC State come back and win
- 37:18that? Game they did.
- 37:19Yeah. How about that?
- 37:20Yeah, they were up. Oh, they got up. 50, they got up
- 37:22by 1, by 10, yeah. Yeah, they dominated that one.
- 37:26We're underway in game two of the Big 10 Tournament as it is
- 37:30USC and Washington. The Trojans out to a 12/10 lead
- 37:34in that one in the. And that's also Peacock.
- 37:37Yes, also Peacock and down at the wire.
- 37:40Kentucky is going to survive LSU, that Kentucky team.
- 37:44Oh. Disappointing.
- 37:45How much money they? Spend Oh my God, disappointing
- 37:49this year and. Pope, it's going to be fielding.
- 37:53Yeah, yes, yes, without a doubt. Kentucky's different.
- 37:55It's very different. Is it as different as any
- 37:58program in college basketball? It Yeah.
- 38:05Duke was a guy. They had success before K, but
- 38:07he built it into another level and we've just seen one guy.
- 38:11After I mean yes, I think the answer is yes.
- 38:15Plus, we're talking about a small private school in Duke,
- 38:17right? Kentucky is the lifeblood,
- 38:19right, of what they are. Yukon.
- 38:22Yeah, there's pressure, but I think it's different.
- 38:25I think it is too when you mean there you go back to to Rupp.
- 38:28Yes, right, 22,000 every night. So that's the bluest of blue
- 38:35Blues, I think. I think the pressure that comes
- 38:37along. With it, I agree.
- 38:38What is that job in college football?
- 38:42That's a great question. What is?
- 38:46Well. Jeez, it should be.
- 38:53And it maybe used to be the Huskers to an extent because of
- 38:57their success. Because it's Nebraska football
- 39:00and that's it. Kentucky football is
- 39:05meaningless. Right.
- 39:07Yeah. What is that change And
- 39:08Nebraska? Basketball's been needless until
- 39:10this year. Until, yeah, until Hoyburg.
- 39:12They've never won a tournament, right?
- 39:13That's probably going to change this year, I hope.
- 39:16UCLA. UCLA used to be that.
- 39:19But it's not football too. No, there's no, there's no
- 39:22Kentucky's on its own level. And on the football, I think the
- 39:25football side's Alabama. And though they've had success
- 39:27basketball recently with NATO, it's on what they've done.
- 39:30Just the pressure cookers. Alabama, I think you're right.
- 39:32If it's not Alabama, it's probably an SEC team.
- 39:35I think so Ohio State would be the only one I could think of
- 39:37away from that. They've had some downturns, but
- 39:41not at the level and they're we're we're going back a long
- 39:44time. They John Cooper just couldn't
- 39:47beat Michigan. That was his problem.
- 39:49Had great teams but before that they had some lean.
- 39:53Years in there. Fair.
- 39:54All right, take your time out. You've had some lean weeks, but
- 39:56this year you're this week rather you're seeing it.
- 39:58We're red hot. Absolutely.
- 40:01If you want to climb a board and tail them this week, not fade
- 40:04them, oh boy, pressure's on. You're putting the pressure on
- 40:06me. You feel like I'm an Alabama
- 40:08coach. On the Iowa Sports Radio
- 40:10Network. All right, final couple of
- 40:17minutes of our program coming up next off the bench on Roberts,
- 40:21Lucas Strain 2 until 5:00. All right, Trans Circus Sports
- 40:26sponsors this portion of the program.
- 40:28It is your plays of the day. You'll have more coming up over
- 40:32the weekend, more opportunities, more games.
- 40:35God this is such a fun weekend to be in Vegas.
- 40:37This is the time where I had, I believe, my greatest gambling
- 40:41day ever. I think it was on the Friday of
- 40:44conference tournament week. When we were out there.
- 40:47No random day probably a decade ago, something like that, and I
- 40:52was still working at the school. So we had it been more than a
- 40:55decade ago and I went, I think it was on Friday 27 and five
- 41:02against the spread. I bet seemingly almost every
- 41:05single game that's on the. Board there's like 30 something
- 41:07games. That day and it was a ridiculous
- 41:10and it was I mean every miss free throw went my way down the
- 41:12stretch, every team that let the clock run out instead of I mean,
- 41:16you talk about getting every single break and as just
- 41:20everything going your way throughout the course of the
- 41:22day. Now, I promptly gave it back,
- 41:23you know, a couple days later, I'm sure, but that's the way
- 41:26that it goes. But that was one of the most fun
- 41:29days. And for college basketball, we
- 41:31know how things come down to the wire, and it just all followed
- 41:33that way. Alas, don't think that'll be
- 41:35happening coming up, but we're off to a good start today.
- 41:37By the way, FanDuel has Iowa 1 1/2. 1 1/2 it is out.
- 41:43And Iowa State 4 1/2. We're and 1/2 in that one.
- 41:47So we were right on right around the Ken Palm number and got a
- 41:50tilted maybe the way we thought Tilly being back for Ohio State.
- 41:53That's going to be a difference and probably going to have to
- 41:55come up with a different type of game plan to keep Bruce Thornton
- 41:59not involved in that one, but we'll be back at it 11:00 with
- 42:03the tip of that one. Speaking of back at it, back for
- 42:05state basketball tomorrow. Game Game 2 will be heard here.
- 42:10Game 2 with Johnston and Waukee. 12:15 with the tip, we'll get
- 42:14things started to you and I right at noon before that. 10:30
- 42:17on 96.9 FM, I'll bring you Dowling Catholic against #1
- 42:21Cedar Falls picks for today. 4 left on the docket so far.
- 42:24I'm going to grab UCF and the points against Cincinnati coming
- 42:28up here in just a couple minutes with the tip off that one.
- 42:30Northwestern's one six in a row against Indiana.
- 42:33I got to grab the 6 1/2 against the Hoosiers, but if it happens,
- 42:37we know it's going to be an odd slide.
- 42:38I think for Indiana, if they win, they're going to win
- 42:41comfortably. I don't think it's going to be 1
- 42:42down to the wire. Going to grab the points with
- 42:44Rutgers tonight. We're getting 5 1/2.
- 42:46Minnesota a different team away from the barn.
- 42:48So both dogs in the Big 10. And wrap it up a little late
- 42:52night action as we go out to the big W Give me you see San Diego,
- 42:58they're laying getting 5 1/2 against Cal Santa.
- 43:01Barbara, all right off the bench.
- 43:03Coming up next, Miller and Condon with you Monday through
- 43:05Friday, noon until 2 to talk sports with you on the Iowa
- 43:09Sports Radio Network.
