- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the best of Stugatz and Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: NFL kicks off tonight and we are loaded today. Jerome
- 0:23Speaker 1: Bettis going to join us. Bijan Robinson and Justin Jefferson
- 0:27Speaker 1: going to join us. In hour number two, we are
- 0:31Speaker 1: stacked today. Seahawks and Patriots tonight kicks off the 2026
- 0:37Speaker 1: NFL season.
- 0:39Speaker 3: And we'll get to that in just a second. Taylor
- 0:43Speaker 3: has been sitting on a take.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He's upset he did not deliver this take yesterday, and
- 0:48Speaker 1: he wants to deliver it right now as we get
- 0:51Speaker 1: ready for the NFL season. I'm not certain if it's
- 0:53Speaker 1: an NFL take. Mikey, are you aware of the take
- 0:56Speaker 1: that he's been sitting on here?
- 0:58Speaker 4: No, but Taylor gave me a take before the show
- 1:01Speaker 4: and I've just been mad at him ever since.
- 1:04Speaker 5: And I don't think that's the take you're referring to.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:07Speaker 4: But I've just been sitting here stewing about it. Like
- 1:10Speaker 4: I I'm, I'm angry with him.
- 1:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:11Speaker 1: So he has two takes. Cause I believe this is
- 1:13Speaker 1: not the take that angered you. So let's get to
- 1:16Speaker 1: the first take here, Taylor. What do you have for us?
- 1:19Speaker 6: After watching Florida state SMU and seeing Florida state be
- 1:22Speaker 6: three and 14 in its last 17 ACC games, It's
- 1:26Speaker 6: harder to be this bad at Florida State than it
- 1:29Speaker 6: is to be this good at Indiana.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:34Speaker 5: I like that take.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Put it on the poll. Is it harder to be
- 1:37Speaker 1: this bad at Florida State? than it is to be this.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Good at Indiana.
- 1:41Speaker 6: Because those results that I just read, those are Purdue-level numbers.
- 1:45Speaker 6: They're Northwestern-level numbers. You're Florida State. You're sitting in the
- 1:49Speaker 6: middle of one of the greatest recruiting states in America.
- 1:52Speaker 6: You have a national brand, championship history, an enormous fan base,
- 1:56Speaker 6: and your result is paying Ashton Daniels a reported $ 800, 000
- 2:00Speaker 6: in NIL to be your quarterback. I wouldn't take Ashton
- 2:03Speaker 6: Daniels on my roster if he paid me $ 800, 000.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Put it on the poll. What's his name? Ashton what?
- 2:10Speaker 6: Ashton Daniels.
- 2:11Speaker 1: If Ashton Daniels paid you $ 800, 000.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Would you take him? Just put it on the poll,
- 2:17Speaker 3: just like that. What do you have, Mikey?
- 2:20Speaker 4: This feels like Stu Gotts going 0 for 17 picking games.
- 2:24Speaker 5: That's how Florida State, how bad they've been.
- 2:27Speaker 4: It's almost like It's a mixture of luck and being
- 2:31Speaker 4: bad that gets you as bad as they are.
- 2:35Speaker 6: You have to actively work to be this bad at
- 2:37Speaker 6: Florida State.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah. They were in the title game, weren't they, a
- 2:42Speaker 3: couple of years ago? Yeah, but.
- 2:44Speaker 6: The fall off needs to be studied for this Florida
- 2:47Speaker 6: state team for other college powerhouses to be like, what
- 2:49Speaker 6: do we do to not replicate what Florida state did?
- 2:52Speaker 6: And I think the simple answer is not recruit a
- 2:55Speaker 6: quarterback in Ashton Daniels, who was six and 21 as
- 2:58Speaker 6: a starter between Stanford, Auburn, and now Florida state.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Or have Mike Norvell as your coach, right? I love
- 3:03Speaker 3: Mike Norvell. You do, but you don't. He should be fired, but.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You can't say that you love a guy and he
- 3:10Speaker 1: should be fired at the exact same time.
- 3:12Speaker 6: No, because this is like separating the artist from the art.
- 3:16Speaker 6: I'm separating the person from the football coach. I love
- 3:19Speaker 6: Mike Norvell, the person.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Great person. Yeah, great.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:21Speaker 6: The coach leaves a lot to be desired.
- 3:25Speaker 3: The coach was the toast of Tallahassee two years ago.
- 3:29Speaker 6: And nothing has gone right since.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Ashton Daniels. Funny.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Let's get to the take that upset Mikey. Who wants
- 3:38Speaker 1: to deliver this take?
- 3:40Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Taylor's going to deliver because I won't even spit it out.
- 3:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 3:45Speaker 6: So tonight's the NFL kicking off. My Patriots are in
- 3:49Speaker 6: a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Yes.
- 3:52Speaker 6: I'm sorry to say this. I'm watching on the TV
- 3:55Speaker 6: right now Liverpool play in their Champions League.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:58Speaker 6: I'm more excited for Liverpool's Champions League campaign kicking off
- 4:01Speaker 6: right now against Atletico Madrid than I am for the
- 4:03Speaker 6: NFL tonight.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Are you really? Because I wanted to talk tennis.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Because last night I was up until 3.30 in the
- 4:09Speaker 1: morning watching.
- 4:10Speaker 3: What was perhaps the greatest tennis match of all time.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And you won't let me talk tennis. And now you've
- 4:15Speaker 3: dragged me into Liverpool.
- 4:16Speaker 6: That Tiafoe match might've been the second. It was the
- 4:19Speaker 6: greatest tennis match of all time. Tiafoe coming back down
- 4:22Speaker 6: two sets.
- 4:22Speaker 7: Yes.
- 4:23Speaker 6: It was the greatest tennis match of all time for like.
- 4:25Speaker 5: No, no, no, no. This is my Christmas Eve.
- 4:29Speaker 4: You guys are not going to take this from me
- 4:31Speaker 4: by talking about tennis and soccer.
- 4:34Speaker 5: No, this is my time.
- 4:36Speaker 1: OK, I'm just making a larger point. I wanted to
- 4:38Speaker 1: start today with tennis. You guys said no. And somehow Taylor,
- 4:43Speaker 1: who was one of the two of you who said no,
- 4:45Speaker 1: has dragged us into soccer talk. You want tennis talk now?
- 4:49Speaker 6: It's Christmas Eve. It's Christmas Eve. And me and Stu
- 4:53Speaker 6: Gatz are over here trying to celebrate Halloween.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the U.S. Open is my Christmas Eve. I mean,
- 4:58Speaker 3: I love it.
- 4:59Speaker 6: I do.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Francis Tiafoe, that match against Mickelson started when we were here.
- 5:04Speaker 3: We were here, Mikey. We were here doing the show.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I got home.
- 5:08Speaker 1: The sun was coming down and Tiafoe was still hitting
- 5:11Speaker 1: four hands.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Stu, when I turned that gate, when I turned that
- 5:14Speaker 6: TV off yesterday before the, the Shelton Alcaraz match, I
- 5:18Speaker 6: was tennised out the Tiafoe Mickelson. I said, there's no
- 5:22Speaker 6: way the next match could be better than the match
- 5:25Speaker 6: I just saw.
- 5:26Speaker 8: Right.
- 5:26Speaker 6: So let me turn this off and let me turn
- 5:28Speaker 6: on the Yankee game. Right. And then apparently I missed
- 5:31Speaker 6: an all time class.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Well, there wasn't because you missed a woman's quarterfinal match,
- 5:35Speaker 1: which was a good match on a great match. It
- 5:36Speaker 1: was the match right after Tiafoe. That was Emma Navarro.
- 5:40Speaker 1: She lost to Pagoula. Pagoula, an American, is now in
- 5:44Speaker 1: the semifinals. Mikey is so upset. And then the Alcaraz
- 5:48Speaker 1: match happened and Ben Shelton beat him in five sets
- 5:51Speaker 1: at three thirty a.m.
- 5:52Speaker 7: In the morning.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Greatest match I've ever seen. I watched the entire match.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I'm exhausted today. Mikey, so that's the take. It's the
- 6:00Speaker 1: soccer take that upset you, huh?
- 6:02Speaker 4: Yes because you're right we both did say no to
- 6:05Speaker 4: you talking tennis you did even though you just squeezed
- 6:07Speaker 4: that in thank you and i thought i had an
- 6:09Speaker 4: ally in taylor i thought me and taylor were going
- 6:11Speaker 4: to be a hand in hand no no no we're
- 6:13Speaker 4: going to walk into this nfl season which starts tonight
- 6:17Speaker 4: we are going to do this together we are not
- 6:19Speaker 4: going to let stu gots derail us and then taylor
- 6:22Speaker 4: hits me with liverpool and i'm just i'm i'm beside
- 6:26Speaker 4: myself with how mad i am about.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not derailing you.
- 6:29Speaker 1: We have Jerome Bettis, Bijan Robinson, and Justin Jefferson on today.
- 6:33Speaker 6: And just to be clear to Mikey, I'm not trying
- 6:36Speaker 6: to talk about this Liverpool match. Maybe some platform would
- 6:40Speaker 6: let me talk about Bradley Barkola getting his first start
- 6:43Speaker 6: for Liverpool in a Champions League match.
- 6:45Speaker 5: You're talking about it.
- 6:47Speaker 3: This is the platform, yes.
- 6:49Speaker 6: And if you told me I could only watch one,
- 6:51Speaker 6: Liverpool versus Atletico Madrid or the NFL game tonight, yes,
- 6:56Speaker 6: I would pick the Liverpool game. But luckily, I don't
- 6:58Speaker 6: have to make that choice.
- 7:00Speaker 7: I live in America. I could do both things.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Can I just say, you're saying all this while wearing
- 7:05Speaker 4: a Patriots logo right in the middle of your chest,
- 7:09Speaker 4: claiming your best friend, Matt Collins, is playing on the team,
- 7:13Speaker 4: and you would rather watch Liverpool and Atletico Madrid or whoever.
- 7:18Speaker 5: The hell it is.
- 7:18Speaker 3: It's a big match.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Instead of talking about your... I'm using air quotes for
- 7:23Speaker 4: those who can't see me. Favorite team, the New England Patriots,
- 7:26Speaker 4: try and get revenge against the Super Bowl champion, Seattle Seahawks,
- 7:31Speaker 4: led by our former quarterback, Sam Darnold. And you would
- 7:35Speaker 4: rather talk about soccer. That's what you're telling me.
- 7:42Speaker 3: In fairness to Taylor, no one cares about the Seahawks.
- 7:45Speaker 3: What do you do?
- 7:47Speaker 6: You do this with Seattle all the time.
- 7:49Speaker 7: What am I doing?
- 7:50Speaker 3: You want Liverpool.
- 7:51Speaker 6: No, no matter what Seattle team we talk about.
- 7:55Speaker 5: You always do.
- 7:56Speaker 6: This thing where you're like, nobody cares about Seattle. And
- 8:00Speaker 6: then I'm left with the consequences of that where people
- 8:03Speaker 6: from Seattle are messaging me saying, why does Stu always
- 8:06Speaker 6: blast Seattle at every chance he gets?
- 8:08Speaker 3: I'm not blasting Seattle. It's a lovely place. I've been there.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I've been there several times. I love it. It's wonderful.
- 8:14Speaker 3: It's beautiful. It's fantastic.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I've been to the Gorge. I've gone to see concerts
- 8:19Speaker 1: in Seattle. I've gone to the Gorge for Dead &
- 8:21Speaker 1: Company shows. My college roommate, Chris Gordon, is from Seattle.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I love the city.
- 8:26Speaker 6: Gordo.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Gordo. How'd you know?
- 8:29Speaker 1: Because there's only one name that can be somebody.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Like that, and it's Gordo.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It's Gordo. Yes.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So I love Seattle. Just nobody cares about the sports
- 8:39Speaker 1: in the great Northwest.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I mean, nobody.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Nobody.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Listen, the NBA doesn't care about him.
- 8:44Speaker 1: They have one of the most exciting teams in the
- 8:46Speaker 1: history of the NBA with the Rain Man, Sean Kemp,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and the Gloved Gary Payton, and they.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Moved the team. I mean, what do you want from me?
- 8:54Speaker 6: I'm going to extend an olive branch to Mikey A.
- 8:56Speaker 6: We could talk Patriots, Seahawks. Mikey, Travion Henderson, sideline. Let's
- 9:00Speaker 6: get all your thoughts out that Travion Henderson, the Patriots'
- 9:03Speaker 6: star running back.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Is out for this contest. That's not fair to Mikey.
- 9:06Speaker 1: He's just excited that we have football, and it starts tonight.
- 9:08Speaker 3: That's it. Yes.
- 9:09Speaker 4: First off, if you want to talk about Travion Henderson
- 9:11Speaker 4: being out, don't listen. You would do this to me
- 9:14Speaker 4: with the NBA. You could do this to me with soccer.
- 9:16Speaker 4: You could even do this to me with baseball. You
- 9:18Speaker 4: cannot do this to me with the NFL. I will
- 9:20Speaker 4: tell you how Ramondre Stevenson better have lost those fumble
- 9:23Speaker 4: issues because right now, Travion Henderson being out is the
- 9:26Speaker 4: best thing to happen to him.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Let's go, Taylor.
- 9:29Speaker 6: I am glad that the Patriots got the Christian Gonzalez
- 9:31Speaker 6: contract done before tonight because I didn't need the unnecessary
- 9:35Speaker 6: drama or Or distraction hanging over the team. Four years,
- 9:38Speaker 6: $ 135 million, making him the highest paid defensive back in
- 9:42Speaker 6: NFL history.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Deserves it. Does he?
- 9:45Speaker 6: I think he deserves it. At least Mikey doesn't.
- 9:46Speaker 1: How many cornerbacks can you name that are better than him?
- 9:49Speaker 1: Just off the top of your head. Sertan would be one, right?
- 9:53Speaker 5: Stingley. I can name three.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Who's the third? Stingley is another one, yes.
- 9:57Speaker 5: I I'm going to say sauce Gardner.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:01Speaker 6: But the problem is you have a Christian Gonzalez already
- 10:04Speaker 6: on your roster, and he's their first round draft pick
- 10:09Speaker 6: to sign a second contract with the team in the
- 10:11Speaker 6: past 11 years. Donta Hightower was the last one.
- 10:15Speaker 5: If you are the New.
- 10:15Speaker 6: England Patriots, you draft a guy like Gonzo to eventually
- 10:19Speaker 6: give him a second contract. We could debate where he
- 10:21Speaker 6: is in terms of top cornerbacks. If he's a top
- 10:23Speaker 6: five cornerback, you pay that top five cornerback to stay
- 10:27Speaker 6: with your franchise.
- 10:29Speaker 4: And no disrespect to Seattle the way Stu does. I
- 10:31Speaker 4: forgot Devin Witherspoon, who's also playing in this game. He's
- 10:34Speaker 4: probably better than Christian Gonzalez.
- 10:36Speaker 3: That's why I forgot him. He plays in Seattle.
- 10:38Speaker 7: I understand.
- 10:39Speaker 5: And you know what?
- 10:41Speaker 4: We just did that whole thing where we were crushing Stupors,
- 10:43Speaker 4: and then I just went ahead and did it and
- 10:44Speaker 4: forgot about them.
- 10:45Speaker 3: I apologize, Seattle.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Devin Witherspoon's up there, too.
- 10:48Speaker 1: To the great people of Seattle, I am not crushing
- 10:51Speaker 1: you or your city. I'm just saying nobody cares about
- 10:53Speaker 1: your sports teams.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And I'm right.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I cared about Ken Griffey Jr.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Did you?
- 10:59Speaker 6: Ricardo just gave me an emphatic.
- 11:03Speaker 3: And the unit, the big unit. Wow. Yes.
- 11:06Speaker 1: No, they've had some great teams. I'm just saying nobody
- 11:08Speaker 1: cares about it.
- 11:09Speaker 3: That's all. I mean, come get me Seattle.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Seriously.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I ain't afraid of you.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Both of you.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Mikey, I am so sorry that we started. It is
- 11:24Speaker 3: your Christmas.
- 11:25Speaker 5: My Christmas Eve.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And in the stockings was tennis and a soccer conversation.
- 11:31Speaker 3: It's a big one for Liverpool.
- 11:34Speaker 6: Gotta get started on the right foot.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 11:40Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on
- 11:44Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Be sure to
- 11:49Speaker 2: catch live editions of Stu Godson Company live weekdays at
- 11:53Speaker 2: 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m.
- 11:55Speaker 7: Pacific.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We'll get to do me a favor. Taylor has his
- 11:59Speaker 1: college football week two tears as well. I want to
- 12:02Speaker 1: ask you guys a question real quick here. Does it
- 12:05Speaker 1: bother you? We have Texas-Ohio State coming up this weekend.
- 12:09Speaker 1: A monster game. But does it bother you at all?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Because I maintain that college football had it right to
- 12:14Speaker 1: begin with.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Their regular season meant something. These games meant something.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Does it bother you guys at all that Texas-Ohio State,
- 12:21Speaker 1: while still meaningful, doesn't mean the same that it used
- 12:25Speaker 1: to mean? Because you have to figure both teams win
- 12:28Speaker 1: or lose. Both teams are going to make it to
- 12:30Speaker 1: a 12-team playoff, don't you?
- 12:32Speaker 6: You would think that, but the season in the SEC
- 12:35Speaker 6: is so long where if Tex— Ohio State could afford
- 12:38Speaker 6: a loss in this game. I don't think Texas can
- 12:40Speaker 6: because you're looking at a gauntlet of an SEC schedule.
- 12:43Speaker 6: It's hard to see Texas getting through pretty flawlessly. But
- 12:47Speaker 6: I do think there's an element there, Stu, where I
- 12:50Speaker 6: miss the days of college football where if you lost
- 12:53Speaker 6: in week one, if you lost in week two, that
- 12:55Speaker 6: was it.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Pack it up.
- 12:56Speaker 6: Your season's over.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yes, right. We don't have that anymore.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And therefore, this game, while a big game, again, a
- 13:02Speaker 1: big game, I have to think that both teams have
- 13:04Speaker 1: a pretty good shot of making it to a 12-team playoff.
- 13:06Speaker 3: It's not an elimination game. I missed that.
- 13:10Speaker 5: I don't miss that at all.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I don't know why you would want your season to
- 13:13Speaker 4: be over in week one or two. This is going
- 13:17Speaker 4: to be one of the best games of the year,
- 13:19Speaker 4: at least on paper. Give me that every week if
- 13:23Speaker 4: I can get it. I don't want to just sit
- 13:24Speaker 4: there and go, well, I guess this is an elimination game.
- 13:27Speaker 4: I like that it puts a team on notice. Like
- 13:29Speaker 4: if you lose this game, you can't lose again. Now
- 13:32Speaker 4: we're going, if you lose twice, you're out. But no,
- 13:36Speaker 4: absolutely give.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Me this game.
- 13:38Speaker 6: There is a good part of it where you have
- 13:40Speaker 6: teams that are more willing to play these big matchups
- 13:42Speaker 6: early in the season. But, Mikey, there's something almost romantic
- 13:47Speaker 6: about college football where the whole offseason you spend wondering,
- 13:51Speaker 6: is my team going to be good? Is my team
- 13:53Speaker 6: going to be bad? Do I have a quarterback? Is
- 13:55Speaker 6: my coach going to get himself on the hot seat?
- 13:57Speaker 6: And you go into week one, that ball is about
- 14:00Speaker 6: to kick off, and you have such high expectations.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 14:03Speaker 6: And then by the end of that game, your expectations
- 14:06Speaker 6: are over and you're just thinking about when is the
- 14:07Speaker 6: next offseason.
- 14:08Speaker 8: Right.
- 14:08Speaker 3: You're thinking about the holiday bowl.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I mean, why would you want to ruin your entire fall?
- 14:16Speaker 5: Why would you want to ruin it?
- 14:18Speaker 6: As a North Carolina fan, I go into every season
- 14:21Speaker 6: optimistic and then that ball gets kicked off and I go, well,
- 14:24Speaker 6: best case scenario is we end up in the Belk Bowl.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 1: You'll take the bulk bowl right now it's not the.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Bulk bowl anymore it's the duke's mayo bowl.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm sorry uh so mike yeah i'm not trying to
- 14:37Speaker 1: take the game away from you i'm just saying these
- 14:40Speaker 1: games have less meaning than they've ever had that's all i'm.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Saying yeah but if you're texas or ohio state why
- 14:47Speaker 4: even schedule this game if i lose and i'm done
- 14:50Speaker 4: right why.
- 14:50Speaker 5: Would you even consider.
- 14:52Speaker 3: It um Because you want to play somebody good?
- 14:56Speaker 5: No, I don't.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I'd rather go– if the situation is I lose and
- 15:02Speaker 4: I'm done, then I don't want to play anybody good.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I want to play Northwestern State, the demons, and just
- 15:09Speaker 4: play them 13 times a year.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Right, beat them 80-6 on a late field goal. They
- 15:13Speaker 3: get their sixth point.
- 15:14Speaker 6: But what you have to be careful about in this
- 15:16Speaker 6: new era is you have Sark basically saying what Mikey said,
- 15:20Speaker 6: like last year, if we didn't play Ohio State, we
- 15:23Speaker 6: find ourselves in the playoffs. Let's go schedule cupcakes. I'm
- 15:27Speaker 6: pretty sure that's what Rutgers thought when they were scheduling UMass.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:31Speaker 1: By the way, you see, that's what UMass thought. Yes,
- 15:33Speaker 1: it was a great question by you. We love that
- 15:35Speaker 1: we have access to Spags. He's a friend of mine.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Did you see how he lit up? He didn't light
- 15:40Speaker 1: up about anything else other than your UMass question.
- 15:43Speaker 3: He said great question. It wasn't. It was just something
- 15:46Speaker 3: he was interested in. He loved it. All right.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Taylor has college football week two tears. How do you
- 15:55Speaker 1: want to do this here, Taylor?
- 15:56Speaker 3: What are we doing?
- 15:57Speaker 6: First, Ricardo, I need the music.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Ah, yes, the music. I'm sorry.
- 16:01Speaker 6: This is Taylor's Tears on a Tuesday.
- 16:03Speaker 3: All right. Tears on a Tuesday.
- 16:04Speaker 5: Love a good drum line.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I keep saying week two. It was week one. That
- 16:08Speaker 3: week zero thing continues to throw me off. I hate it.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Get rid of it.
- 16:12Speaker 6: So my first tier.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:14Speaker 6: We're about to find out who's who.
- 16:16Speaker 3: This is the who's who tier. The who's who tier.
- 16:19Speaker 3: A very important tier here. We find out who's who.
- 16:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 16:22Speaker 3: What do you have for us?
- 16:23Speaker 6: I have four teams in the who's who because they're
- 16:26Speaker 6: playing each other.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 16:27Speaker 8: Okay.
- 16:27Speaker 7: All right.
- 16:28Speaker 6: Kentucky with their new coach, Will Stein, playing Alabama. We're
- 16:31Speaker 6: going to find out who's who.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Kentucky had a good recruiting class. They did well in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the transfer portal. Kentucky's a sneaky good team. So you're
- 16:38Speaker 1: saying we're going to find out if Kentucky's for real,
- 16:41Speaker 1: or is that.
- 16:41Speaker 3: A different game?
- 16:42Speaker 6: For real, games are a bit different. This is just
- 16:44Speaker 6: more so a who's who game.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Okay, so who's who. So we're going to find out.
- 16:48Speaker 1: What are we finding out? If Alabama's good?
- 16:51Speaker 6: We're going to find out if Alabama's good. We're going
- 16:53Speaker 6: to find out if Kenny Minchies could be this SEC
- 16:57Speaker 6: player of the year type quarterback in Kentucky.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yes, I'm sorry, Mikey.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Stu, we're going to find out who's who.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Okay, I'm sorry.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I don't know if you heard the name of the tier.
- 17:04Speaker 3: My bad.
- 17:05Speaker 5: We're going to find out who's who.
- 17:06Speaker 1: All right, there are four teams in it. Kentucky and
- 17:08Speaker 1: Alabama are two of them. I'm sorry, Mikey.
- 17:10Speaker 5: You are right.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Thank you for correcting me. Let's keep it moving.
- 17:13Speaker 6: The other two teams in the who's who tier. texas
- 17:17Speaker 6: and ohio state.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Wow the game that shouldn't be played i mean.
- 17:22Speaker 6: This is big time redemption game for archie manning.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah not so sold on arch you gotta be honest.
- 17:30Speaker 6: I mean the last half of the season he was
- 17:33Speaker 6: the best quarterback.
- 17:34Speaker 1: In college football prove it to me i mean do
- 17:36Speaker 1: it for a whole year do it against ohio state
- 17:38Speaker 1: do it from the start of the season do it
- 17:39Speaker 1: in week two in a who's who game how about
- 17:41Speaker 1: that huh all.
- 17:43Speaker 7: Right my next tier yeah Good loss.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Oh, the good loss tier.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Okay. I like this.
- 17:50Speaker 5: I have a good loss.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 6: One team in the good loss tier from this week.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:55Speaker 6: The Louisville Cardinals.
- 17:58Speaker 3: That was a good loss. They lost to Mississippi.
- 18:00Speaker 1: It was a close game, but you saw, we all
- 18:03Speaker 1: saw the entire country saw that Louisville is a playoff
- 18:06Speaker 1: worthy team.
- 18:07Speaker 6: And they have a quarterback.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yes. Yes. They can sling it. Yes. Former Ohio state guy, right? Yes. Yes.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Unless Stugatz got his way and then they're already out.
- 18:18Speaker 3: So that was the one good loss tier.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yep.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:21Speaker 6: The next tier.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It was a good loss. As far as losses go,
- 18:23Speaker 1: it was a great loss. They showed in a loss
- 18:25Speaker 1: that they are indeed for real.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 18:27Speaker 6: So that was the good loss tier. The next tier
- 18:30Speaker 6: is the great loss tier. Ah, the great loss tier.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Okay. I love this. A GL. Go ahead. I guess
- 18:35Speaker 3: they're both GLs. Go ahead.
- 18:36Speaker 6: The great loss tier. The Western Michigan Broncos.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Oh, what?
- 18:40Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 18:42Speaker 3: That's a great loss. Is it a great loss?
- 18:46Speaker 5: No, that's not a great loss.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's a game they thought they won. They ended up
- 18:49Speaker 1: losing on a technicality. I mean, I had no idea
- 18:53Speaker 1: that we're looking at a different clock than the referees are.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I don't know if that's a good loss.
- 18:58Speaker 7: It's not a good loss.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It's a great loss.
- 19:00Speaker 1: It's a great loss. I don't know if that's a
- 19:02Speaker 1: great loss. What is that great loss going to do
- 19:03Speaker 1: for them?
- 19:06Speaker 5: Absolutely nothing. I disagree with this tier.
- 19:09Speaker 3: It's his tier, though.
- 19:12Speaker 7: The next tier.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Yes. Hot garbage. Michigan.
- 19:16Speaker 5: A lot of teams in the.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Hot garbage tier.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Our most loaded category so far. I'll run through all
- 19:24Speaker 6: the teams in the hot garbage tier.
- 19:25Speaker 1: That can't be a great loss for Western Michigan. That
- 19:28Speaker 1: would have been the biggest win in the history of
- 19:32Speaker 1: that football program. And it was taken away from them
- 19:35Speaker 1: by the referees. And no one seems to care. The
- 19:38Speaker 1: fans care more than the Western Michigan coach, AD, fan base,
- 19:42Speaker 1: and the entire team.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I'm confused by it.
- 19:47Speaker 4: According to Heather dennich the mac is appealing the loss really.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Because it was a great loss might get flipped.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Why would you appeal it if it's a great loss though.
- 19:57Speaker 6: Because it was so great it should be a win would.
- 20:00Speaker 3: It be a good win or a great win.
- 20:02Speaker 6: Oh, it would be the best win in program history.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Right. Well, that's convenient. Wait, so the conference.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I think this loss for Western Michigan is better than
- 20:15Speaker 6: any win they've ever gotten as a program.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 4: The Mac has issued a statement saying it is now
- 20:21Speaker 4: evident that replay protocol was not properly followed during the
- 20:25Speaker 4: Michigan game. The league has submitted formal appeals to the
- 20:29Speaker 4: NCAA FBS Oversight Committee and the CFP asking they recognize
- 20:33Speaker 4: Western Michigan as the actual winner.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Of the game. I vote yes. But here we are
- 20:40Speaker 3: playing sports in a courtroom again. I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Hail to the Victors was about Western Michigan.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Was it?
- 20:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it's definitely not. It's Michigan's fight song, but it
- 20:51Speaker 6: should be hail to the victors, Western Michigan, the Broncos.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Hot garbage tier.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 20:57Speaker 6: Oklahoma State, Florida State, and everything that was in that
- 21:01Speaker 6: Baylor and Auburn game.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Including Wagway.
- 21:07Speaker 6: I finished that game, and it was an exciting finish because...
- 21:10Speaker 6: You have the two-point conversion. Baylor goes for two in
- 21:13Speaker 6: the win. Lagway throws it behind him. They fall like
- 21:16Speaker 6: a half inch short. And when that game ended, I
- 21:19Speaker 6: was like, great finish, but I wish I could get
- 21:21Speaker 6: my like three hours back that I watched this game.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Yes. Put it on the poll, Taylor.
- 21:25Speaker 1: When a ball is thrown behind a wide receiver, do
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know it's DJ Lagway playing quarterback?
- 21:32Speaker 6: Then I have one team in my contender tier for
- 21:35Speaker 6: right now.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Just one.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Yep.
- 21:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Who do you got don't say it don't say.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Don't you dare notre dame wow okay i love this
- 21:44Speaker 6: notre dame.
- 21:44Speaker 1: They look good in those bad uniforms they did yeah every.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Other team i don't mention is in my jury still
- 21:50Speaker 6: out and then the final tier today the best team
- 21:54Speaker 6: these two eyes have ever laid.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Eyes on oh i know that is who's that LSU,
- 22:01Speaker 3: go Tigers. He loves them. Go Tigers. He loves them.
- 22:11Speaker 1: One trip to Death Valley. Actually, his third, as we
- 22:14Speaker 1: learned today. And he loves the Tigers.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Roll Tigers.
- 22:17Speaker 1: All right, let's get to do me a favor. We
- 22:19Speaker 1: have less than two minutes here. What happened there, Mikey?
- 22:21Speaker 3: What did I do? Roll Tigers.
- 22:22Speaker 5: You said roll Tigers.
- 22:23Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm tired, man. I'm sorry, man. Football
- 22:27Speaker 3: started and I'm exhausted already. Go Tigers. Do me a favor.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Leave me alone. Do me a favor.
- 22:39Speaker 1: The guy who plays golf and afterwards he's in the
- 22:43Speaker 1: parking lot and feels the need to take his golf
- 22:46Speaker 1: shoes off and clack them together to get the dirt
- 22:49Speaker 1: and the mud out.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Do me a favor. Stop doing it. You're annoying.
- 22:54Speaker 1: We get it. We got you. You played golf. You're
- 22:57Speaker 1: a golfer. You played so well. You have to get
- 23:00Speaker 1: the mud out of your shoes and your spikes before
- 23:02Speaker 1: you go home.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Do me a favor.
- 23:04Speaker 1: They invented a machine for that. Stop doing it and
- 23:07Speaker 1: doing it so loudly that it annoys me trying to
- 23:10Speaker 1: get a peaceful moment in the golf community's parking lot.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Enough.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Do me a favor. Knock it off.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I'll go next.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 23:21Speaker 5: Do me a favor. It's fantasy football season, okay?
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yep.
- 23:24Speaker 5: You don't need the whole clock to make your pick, okay?
- 23:27Speaker 5: We all know you're going to take Jameer Gibbs or
- 23:29Speaker 5: Bijan Robinson.
- 23:30Speaker 4: You don't need 90 seconds to pick your kicker in
- 23:32Speaker 4: the last round.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Do me a favor. Speed this thing up, okay? Know
- 23:37Speaker 5: what you're going to do.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I like that one. That's a good one.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Have a plan. Be ready. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Davo Sweeney?
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Do me a favor. Mm-hmm.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Quit.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 23:51Speaker 6: Save us some time. We know how this ends. You've
- 23:55Speaker 6: won too much at Clemson to go out this sad.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Just quit.
- 23:59Speaker 3: All right.
- 24:00Speaker 1: But there's $ 55 million at stake.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Just get fired.
- 24:05Speaker 8: It's Stu Gotts and Company. Sal Licata, you're hanging out
- 24:08Speaker 8: with the boys today, and I can't wait to get going.
- 24:12Speaker 8: After yesterday, we tried to get it going, give us
- 24:14Speaker 8: some opinion there. The connection wasn't working.
- 24:16Speaker 3: We're back.
- 24:17Speaker 7: No, Stu, we're back. You can hear me right, right?
- 24:19Speaker 7: We're good to go?
- 24:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I can hear you. You sound great. You are great.
- 24:23Speaker 3: You texted me yesterday after the show. bleeping embarrassment. I
- 24:28Speaker 3: knew you were going to take it home with you.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I told you not to take it home with you.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I'm not mad at you. Taylor is.
- 24:33Speaker 1: We'll play what happened after you left the show yesterday
- 24:37Speaker 1: for you in just a minute, but everything went to hell.
- 24:40Speaker 7: So thank you.
- 24:41Speaker 8: Well, we appreciate you having me back because I wasn't
- 24:43Speaker 8: so sure. And I do want to say, Stu, I'd
- 24:45Speaker 8: be remiss if I didn't bring this up to start
- 24:47Speaker 8: the show, not to be a downer here, but it
- 24:48Speaker 8: is the 25th anniversary of September 11th and the senseless attacks. Also,
- 24:53Speaker 8: I am broadcasting live from the SMY studios, which is
- 24:56Speaker 8: at Four.
- 24:57Speaker 7: World Trade Center.
- 24:58Speaker 8: So, you know, an hour before the show, I'm looking
- 25:00Speaker 8: outside and I could see where the towers were and just.
- 25:03Speaker 7: Trying to take it in.
- 25:05Speaker 8: It's just it's hard to fathom what went on that day.
- 25:08Speaker 8: Hard to comprehend the thought process of the people that
- 25:11Speaker 8: ran up that building or those buildings and tried to
- 25:14Speaker 8: save lives. And obviously we know what happened. And then
- 25:16Speaker 8: sports eventually brought us back to some normalcy. You know, Piazza,
- 25:20Speaker 8: Home Run, all that stuff. But I just want to
- 25:21Speaker 8: make sure that people are aware that we will never
- 25:24Speaker 8: forget and honor and think of those that lost their
- 25:27Speaker 8: lives on that senseless day.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It's a good job by you, Sal. I lost a
- 25:32Speaker 1: friend that day, John Salerno. It's a tough day, a
- 25:35Speaker 1: difficult day. Every year I'm thinking about it. This year
- 25:38Speaker 1: obviously resonates more for a lot of people. And there
- 25:41Speaker 1: are still people dealing, of course, and they'll be dealing
- 25:45Speaker 1: with it for the rest of their life, the aftermath
- 25:47Speaker 1: of 9-11. Whether it was first responders, whether it's, you know,
- 25:51Speaker 1: families of the victims, it is still something that is
- 25:55Speaker 1: haunting us until this day.
- 25:56Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 25:57Speaker 7: 25 years.
- 25:58Speaker 8: Hard to believe. But we never forget. And also, we
- 26:01Speaker 8: know that sports played a part in healing, like we said,
- 26:03Speaker 8: with the country. And football in full-fledged here now. You
- 26:06Speaker 8: get two games under our belt week one. My biggest issue, Stu,
- 26:09Speaker 8: I love football. God bless football.
- 26:12Speaker 3: All that stuff.
- 26:12Speaker 7: I love it. But football now.
- 26:15Speaker 3: It's like the week one, week.
- 26:18Speaker 7: Two, even week three, it's like preseason. And yet we
- 26:21Speaker 7: get this overreaction. Like now the Rams stink. The team
- 26:24Speaker 7: that everybody had consensus, oh, nobody's beating the Rams.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Look at them.
- 26:27Speaker 7: They're loaded, the super team.
- 26:28Speaker 8: Now they're left for dead at the hands of the
- 26:30Speaker 8: Niners because they lost week one in Australia.
- 26:33Speaker 7: The overreaction is nuts.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but I love the overreaction.
- 26:37Speaker 1: In fact, I was thinking today that Aaron Donald should
- 26:39Speaker 1: demand a trade to the 49ers. I mean, how about that?
- 26:44Speaker 1: It's what we do, Sal. There's 17 of these things.
- 26:47Speaker 1: They're so precious. They mean so much to so many people.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It's why it's our most popular sport that I'm okay
- 26:54Speaker 1: after a single game in Melbourne, Australia.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Weird pronunciation. I am okay.
- 27:00Speaker 1: That people feel like the Rams are overrated and maybe saying, hey,
- 27:02Speaker 1: you know what? I didn't know the Niners are going
- 27:04Speaker 1: to be that good. You know, I'm all right with that.
- 27:07Speaker 8: OK, I love reacting to week one. And obviously the
- 27:10Speaker 8: games mean something. But, you know, the way that preseason
- 27:15Speaker 8: is basically non-existent now.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You can see it.
- 27:17Speaker 7: I mean, I thought McCaffrey was hurt last night.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Where is he?
- 27:20Speaker 7: They're going with the backup running back. Where is he?
- 27:22Speaker 8: It's because it's essentially a preseason game. So the teams themselves,
- 27:27Speaker 8: we as broadcasters or whatever you want to call us,
- 27:30Speaker 8: sports talk guys, talking heads, we're trying to come up
- 27:33Speaker 8: with opinions and give reaction and all this stuff. And
- 27:35Speaker 8: we could say, well, it doesn't feel right. Because of
- 27:39Speaker 8: the way the preseason used to be compared to where
- 27:41Speaker 8: it is now. It doesn't feel like they've got to
- 27:43Speaker 8: take time to get going. We don't know what these
- 27:45Speaker 8: teams are. But for them themselves to be figuring it
- 27:47Speaker 8: out early on, that is telling.
- 27:49Speaker 7: I do think that there is.
- 27:50Speaker 8: An evaluation that takes place, even though it means something
- 27:54Speaker 8: and we all love it.
- 27:55Speaker 7: The first three or four weeks is kind of evaluating.
- 27:58Speaker 6: That flight to Australia looked like it aged Matthew Stafford
- 28:01Speaker 6: a decade. Sal, I know you don't want the hot.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Takes right now.
- 28:06Speaker 6: If you told Sean McVay he could replace Matthew Stafford
- 28:09Speaker 6: today with Josh Allen, but he had to walk to Buffalo,
- 28:12Speaker 6: how fast do you guys think he would get there?
- 28:13Speaker 7: You're talking about Josh Allen. What about Brock Purdy or
- 28:19Speaker 7: Sam Donald?
- 28:20Speaker 3: Oh, he'd do that today.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'm telling you right now, I know you
- 28:23Speaker 1: hate the overreaction, but if Sean McVay, if he was
- 28:25Speaker 1: being honest, okay, in an honest moment— And they asked him, hey,
- 28:29Speaker 1: you could have Purdy the rest of the way or
- 28:31Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford the rest of the way.
- 28:33Speaker 3: He would say Brock Purdy or he'd be lying. Okay.
- 28:36Speaker 3: How about that?
- 28:37Speaker 7: You guys are out on the Rams already and Stafford already?
- 28:40Speaker 8: Yep.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I can't.
- 28:43Speaker 3: I can't.
- 28:44Speaker 8: I think the Niners are good, but I can't say
- 28:47Speaker 8: I can't say I'm going to be just same thing.
- 28:49Speaker 7: Drake Mays like Drake May gets ripped. He played a
- 28:51Speaker 7: bad game. Hey, guess what?
- 28:52Speaker 5: It happens.
- 28:53Speaker 8: You'd rather have it happen in week one than week
- 28:55Speaker 8: 16 or 17. So I and now it's the same thing.
- 28:58Speaker 7: All Rams. Everybody loved them. Miles Garrett stinks.
- 29:01Speaker 8: I was not aware of the knee injury, by the way.
- 29:03Speaker 8: He was an MIA and now he's using the knee
- 29:04Speaker 8: injury as an excuse.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I hate that.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 29:07Speaker 8: I think both teams that lost so far, whether it
- 29:11Speaker 8: be the Patriots or the Rams.
- 29:12Speaker 7: Still are going to be very, very good this year.
- 29:17Speaker 1: But Sal, don't you want like this is the NFL
- 29:20Speaker 1: is built for sports fans. It's built for people like
- 29:23Speaker 1: me and you. OK, you can't break down 162 baseball games.
- 29:28Speaker 1: because most of those baseball games are fairly meaningless in
- 29:32Speaker 1: the grand scheme of things. You can't do it in
- 29:34Speaker 1: the NBA with 82 NBA game. You just can't do it.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And you're certainly not going to do it in hockey.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Don't you want fans to be so passionate about something?
- 29:43Speaker 1: And this is the sport they're passionate about because there
- 29:45Speaker 1: are 17 games. They all mean so much. They are
- 29:48Speaker 1: so precious. Again, you're only playing 17. You need to
- 29:52Speaker 1: win as many as you can to get to the playoffs.
- 29:54Speaker 1: And I love that fans are irrational, but they're passionate
- 29:58Speaker 1: about about the NFL, meaning I have fired a Jets
- 30:02Speaker 1: coach and hired back that same Jet coach in a quarter.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I have gotten rid of my quarterback, and the next
- 30:12Speaker 1: week my quarterback is the greatest quarterback in the NFL.
- 30:14Speaker 3: I think that's what makes the league so magical. I
- 30:17Speaker 3: really do. I guess.
- 30:18Speaker 8: So then don't– the irrational– and look, fans are irrational.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Certainly I know that.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I am one.
- 30:24Speaker 8: But I'm trying to remain level-headed, especially– with the NFL
- 30:28Speaker 8: being what it is in the early weeks.
- 30:30Speaker 7: Like, I don't know. I mean, really, nobody knows. But
- 30:33Speaker 7: you could pick teams.
- 30:34Speaker 8: And think, oh, this team's going to the Super Bowl
- 30:35Speaker 8: or I love this team in the division. I really
- 30:38Speaker 8: need to watch three weeks before I can say, okay,
- 30:41Speaker 8: this is it. Where I used to be able to
- 30:42Speaker 8: do what I felt, at least, in preseason because you
- 30:45Speaker 8: get a little bit better feel. There's a great unknown.
- 30:47Speaker 8: It's names on paper that we haven't seen, literally have
- 30:50Speaker 8: not seen. Wait, name of the stars who played in
- 30:52Speaker 8: the preseason.
- 30:53Speaker 7: It doesn't happen.
- 30:54Speaker 3: They barely play. Right, it doesn't. Yeah, no, I understand.
- 30:57Speaker 8: That's my point. Look, obviously I love when fans react
- 31:01Speaker 8: to everything. I just, me personally, if I believe the
- 31:03Speaker 8: Rams are good or the Patriots are going to be good,
- 31:05Speaker 8: I don't think I'd be jumping off the bandwagon after
- 31:08Speaker 8: one game.
- 31:09Speaker 7: And it's the first time that we've seen them play
- 31:11Speaker 7: all year long.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Mikey, how do you feel about Sal? Level-headed Sal, okay?
- 31:16Speaker 1: Not overreacting. Wanting to take three games before he formulates
- 31:20Speaker 1: any sort of NFL takes.
- 31:21Speaker 3: How do you feel about it?
- 31:23Speaker 5: Thank you, Sal. I've missed you. I've been with these
- 31:27Speaker 5: two hot take artists. I've been trying to be the
- 31:29Speaker 5: only level-headed person. They've convinced me I'm crazy.
- 31:32Speaker 4: And now you come in and you spit all this logic.
- 31:35Speaker 5: And you know what? It's refreshing. Thank you.
- 31:38Speaker 8: Here's what I will say. Mikey, you guys are listening
- 31:41Speaker 8: to this on the radio. You can't see it on Zoom.
- 31:42Speaker 8: He's decked out in Jet stuff. Definitively, before I see
- 31:45Speaker 8: them play a game, the Jets are going to suck
- 31:46Speaker 8: this year.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Like, that's going to happen.
- 31:48Speaker 3: He doesn't need to wait three weeks. He knows.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:51Speaker 3: We all know that one.
- 31:54Speaker 5: I told you that three years ago, they were going
- 31:55Speaker 5: to suck tomorrow.
- 31:58Speaker 1: By the way, your miles Garrett point is such a great,
- 32:00Speaker 1: great point because if he had three sacks, we'd be
- 32:04Speaker 1: hearing nothing today about him being injured. The idea that
- 32:07Speaker 1: he goes out there, goes to Melbourne, Australia. He's the
- 32:10Speaker 1: big off season signing. Everyone loves the Rams Rams of
- 32:13Speaker 1: the field. And he does nothing. I mean, zero gives
- 32:17Speaker 1: you absolutely nothing and comes out after the game and says, hey,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I'm injured. Do me a favor. Say it before the
- 32:24Speaker 1: game or don't say it at all. How about that?
- 32:26Speaker 8: Not once did I hear any. Now, I could have
- 32:29Speaker 8: missed it. But the buildup to the season was.
- 32:32Speaker 7: Rams, Rams, Rams, Rams, Rams, Donald Garrett, Donald Garrett. They're
- 32:35Speaker 7: going to be the best defense ever.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Oh, my God. Look out.
- 32:37Speaker 8: Purdy's going to be scared for his life. He's going
- 32:39Speaker 8: to be murdered on the field on Wednesday. And is
- 32:42Speaker 8: it Melbourne or you say Melbourne?
- 32:45Speaker 3: How do you say it? Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Well, I thought it was Melbourne when we started today,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but it's Mel-bin, and that is courtesy of Noah Eagle.
- 32:51Speaker 6: Yeah, so the Australian pronunciation, Sal, is Mel-bin.
- 32:56Speaker 7: Mel-bin, okay.
- 32:57Speaker 8: Well, they thought Purdy was going to be murdered in Mel-bin,
- 33:00Speaker 8: and then all of a sudden after the game, it's like,
- 33:03Speaker 8: now my knee was a little.
- 33:04Speaker 7: Bit banged up.
- 33:05Speaker 8: Not once did anybody report that ever in the last
- 33:08Speaker 8: several months.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Not once. Yes, right.
- 33:11Speaker 1: So you have to do it on the front end.
- 33:12Speaker 1: You have to say, hey, I'm not 100%.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Otherwise, I don't believe you.
- 33:16Speaker 1: You cannot put up a dud like Miles Garrett put
- 33:19Speaker 1: up in his first game and then come out after
- 33:22Speaker 1: the game and say, hey.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I'm injured. You're cracking up the excuse machine. Can't do it.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Don't do it. He did it. And he should be
- 33:27Speaker 3: ashamed of himself.
- 33:28Speaker 6: Sal, you mentioned people getting off the Rams and the
- 33:31Speaker 6: Patriots bandwagons right now. And I have this stat from
- 33:34Speaker 6: OptiStats that kind of highlights their underperforming. This is the
- 33:37Speaker 6: first time in NFL history the top two finishers in
- 33:40Speaker 6: the MVP voting the previous season. each had a team
- 33:44Speaker 6: that scored 10 or fewer points in the season opener
- 33:46Speaker 6: with Drake May and Matthew Stafford. So it is historical
- 33:49Speaker 6: how bad these two played in a week one showing.
- 33:52Speaker 7: All right, so what does that mean? Does it mean
- 33:54Speaker 7: that Drake May stinks now? Explain that stat. I'm not
- 33:59Speaker 7: a stats guy, Taylor. You should know that.
- 34:00Speaker 8: Explain what those stats mean. And that's exactly my point.
- 34:03Speaker 8: I love that you said that. Ooh, big fancy AI
- 34:06Speaker 8: stat machine saying that Drake May and Stafford awful after
- 34:10Speaker 8: where they were a year ago. OK, so now are
- 34:12Speaker 8: we to think that those guys aren't going to be good?
- 34:14Speaker 8: I'll go the opposite. Week two, sign me up. Drake May,
- 34:17Speaker 8: Matthew Stafford, they're going to have monster games.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Well, the problem with Drake May was this was Drake
- 34:23Speaker 6: May's chance to kind of silence the narrative that that
- 34:26Speaker 6: he was a schedule merchant when you're going on the
- 34:28Speaker 6: road to Seattle and. Against that defense, it was the
- 34:33Speaker 6: same story for Drake May, where the same questions you
- 34:36Speaker 6: have about Drake May after the Super Bowl, you still
- 34:39Speaker 6: have after week one.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Can I ask you guys what this stat machine looks like?
- 34:45Speaker 1: I mean, it's like the George Michael sports machine. It
- 34:48Speaker 1: just churns out stats. That's a dated reference. I'm sorry
- 34:52Speaker 1: if you were born anywhere within the last 20 years.
- 34:55Speaker 1: You have no idea what I'm talking about. But once
- 34:57Speaker 1: upon a time, there was a guy who was doing
- 34:59Speaker 1: it before SportsCenter. George Michaels was giving you all the
- 35:02Speaker 1: highlights and doing it with a robot.
- 35:05Speaker 8: Right, way ahead of his time with the AI. I
- 35:07Speaker 8: remember that, that sports machine. Okay, but what do those
- 35:11Speaker 8: stats mean, ultimately? It's great to— oh, what are you insinuating
- 35:15Speaker 8: when you bring up those stats? Or somebody who puts
- 35:17Speaker 8: that out there, are we— okay, Drake May's no good?
- 35:19Speaker 7: Like, is that where we're at?
- 35:20Speaker 8: I think it's fair to say the jury's still out,
- 35:23Speaker 8: but then it goes to the overreaction last year where
- 35:25Speaker 8: it's like, I mean, certainly New England fans are talking about, oh,
- 35:27Speaker 8: who needs Tom Brady?
- 35:28Speaker 7: You got Drake May. I mean— It's going to be May.
- 35:31Speaker 7: Everybody was going nuts. Drake May.
- 35:33Speaker 8: So there's got to be somewhere in between where maybe
- 35:36Speaker 8: he's not Tom Brady, but maybe also he doesn't suck
- 35:39Speaker 8: after one questionable game in which his receiver can't even
- 35:41Speaker 8: catch a ball. If he catches that ball, Dubs, the whole.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Game has changed.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but what the stat means is what we're seeing,
- 35:49Speaker 1: at least through the first two games here, is something
- 35:51Speaker 1: fairly unprecedented.
- 35:52Speaker 3: That's all the stat has got to say. This doesn't
- 35:55Speaker 3: normally happen. That's all.
- 35:56Speaker 7: Let me ask you, Stu.
- 35:58Speaker 8: Don't you think that that is a byproduct of where
- 36:02Speaker 8: we're at with the preseason?
- 36:03Speaker 7: Like, back to my point about that before where— It's
- 36:06Speaker 7: it's week one.
- 36:07Speaker 8: We love it to mean everything because the games are
- 36:09Speaker 8: there aren't that many games. But there also is a
- 36:12Speaker 8: little bit of a learning curve and feeling it out
- 36:13Speaker 8: like they literally have not played full NFL games, real
- 36:16Speaker 8: contact games. This is the first one where they used
- 36:19Speaker 8: to at least play one in the preseason.
- 36:22Speaker 1: If you're asking me, do I think if the Rams
- 36:25Speaker 1: are going to be good, even while losing the first
- 36:28Speaker 1: the first game of the season and what I think
- 36:29Speaker 1: of the Niners? I have the Rams now not making
- 36:31Speaker 1: the playoffs, and the Niners are the favorites to make
- 36:33Speaker 1: it to the Super Bowl.
- 36:34Speaker 3: How about that?
- 36:36Speaker 1: Look at us doing sports radio, fellas. This is exciting.
- 36:40Speaker 1: We're not playing sounds. We are talking sports.
- 36:43Speaker 7: You tried to teach me out of that way. And
- 36:45Speaker 7: I'm like, you know what? After we had talks, I'm like,
- 36:47Speaker 7: he's right. What are we doing here?
- 36:50Speaker 3: Volpe stinks.
- 36:51Speaker 7: Stafford stinks.
- 36:52Speaker 5: May stinks.
- 36:52Speaker 7: And then next week, May is up MVP.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Come on.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I know, but I wanted you to drive the show today.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Because you got disconnected. You were very upset. You couldn't
- 37:03Speaker 1: get any takes off yesterday. Whatever take she got off,
- 37:06Speaker 1: they sounded terrible. And so I wanted you to drive
- 37:09Speaker 1: the show so you could control the.
- 37:10Speaker 8: Action today, you know? Okay, I have another take for you.
- 37:13Speaker 8: The nonsense about the Sean McVay planning to go to Melbourne.
- 37:20Speaker 7: I can't even say it. Australia.
- 37:21Speaker 8: Planning to go to Australia just two days ahead of time.
- 37:24Speaker 8: I'm like, do you think that that cost them the game?
- 37:26Speaker 8: Or maybe just the Rams were not as good as
- 37:28Speaker 8: the 49ers on this particular day. I don't think the
- 37:30Speaker 8: sleeping habits or the clock– Or whatever, the travel, jet lag.
- 37:37Speaker 4: So what?
- 37:37Speaker 7: The Niners were there for two weeks. To me, that
- 37:39Speaker 7: had nothing to do with it.
- 37:40Speaker 8: Even with the 17-0 outscoring in the second half, I
- 37:43Speaker 8: don't think that that had anything to do with it.
- 37:46Speaker 1: It's interesting because a lot of people are kind of
- 37:48Speaker 1: pointing that out. The Rams went to Europe last year,
- 37:51Speaker 1: same strategy.
- 37:53Speaker 3: They flew in. They hopped off the bird. They played
- 37:56Speaker 3: the game.
- 37:56Speaker 1: They won the game, got back on the bird, and
- 37:59Speaker 1: went home.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Now, Australia is a different animal, okay?
- 38:03Speaker 1: You're going to Europe, it's a six or seven, well,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I guess from LA it's a bit further, but you're
- 38:07Speaker 1: not going 22 hours with a 38-year-old quarterback who can't
- 38:12Speaker 1: just hop off a plane after 22 hours, play a
- 38:15Speaker 1: football game and get back on a bird and go home.
- 38:18Speaker 1: That was obvious last night. So I don't know if
- 38:20Speaker 1: the Rams did it the right way, the wrong way.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I just know that people are going to point to
- 38:25Speaker 1: it because San Francisco, the team that got there a
- 38:27Speaker 1: week to 10 days in advance, They looked very, very sharp.
- 38:30Speaker 3: They did. They looked very good.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And so naturally, the next day, people are going to
- 38:34Speaker 1: point out, hey, the Rams didn't do it correctly and
- 38:36Speaker 1: the Rams didn't take this game seriously. And I think
- 38:39Speaker 1: that's what people are upset about.
- 38:40Speaker 6: By doing that, though, it feels like we're discrediting what
- 38:43Speaker 6: the 49ers did because I think that game could have
- 38:45Speaker 6: been played in any country, in any stadium, and you
- 38:48Speaker 6: were going to get the same result of the 49ers
- 38:50Speaker 6: just overwhelming L.A.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Well, hold on, Taylor.
- 38:53Speaker 1: If that game's played in SoFi, you think you're getting
- 38:55Speaker 1: the same result?
- 38:56Speaker 6: Almost any stadium.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Got you.
- 39:03Speaker 8: I'm more so with Taylor on that, that I think
- 39:05Speaker 8: it is discrediting the Niners.
- 39:07Speaker 7: Like, okay, so who do we think is the worst
- 39:09Speaker 7: team in the.
- 39:10Speaker 8: NFL or going to be the worst team in the NFL?
- 39:12Speaker 8: I'm not just going to say the Jets.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Who do we think? The Browns.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Browns, Cardinals. Dolphins. Dolphins.
- 39:19Speaker 8: If the Browns played the Rams or the Niners in Australia—
- 39:25Speaker 8: And the Browns got there two months before. And the
- 39:28Speaker 8: Rams showed up the day before.
- 39:30Speaker 7: Of the game. Like, the Rams probably still would have
- 39:32Speaker 7: beat them.
- 39:33Speaker 8: I know that anything could happen any given Sunday, but
- 39:35Speaker 8: my point is I don't think it's about– that's a weird–
- 39:38Speaker 8: same thing with the West Coast coming east.
- 39:40Speaker 7: Like, come on. It's a bunch of nonsense.
- 39:42Speaker 3: No, I understand that.
- 39:43Speaker 1: But how do you explain the Rams, who are so explosive,
- 39:46Speaker 1: who are so good– even without Aaron Donald, playing that badly,
- 39:50Speaker 1: like that poorly.
- 39:51Speaker 3: They had the entire offseason to get ready for this game.
- 39:55Speaker 1: They sent Todd from accounting over to Australia to figure
- 39:58Speaker 1: out what's the right amount of time to spend in
- 40:00Speaker 1: Australia before you play a football game, and Todd was wrong.
- 40:03Speaker 1: So how do you explain it, Sal? Because that team,
- 40:06Speaker 1: I would guess, that's the worst game that team is
- 40:09Speaker 1: going to play this year.
- 40:11Speaker 8: I would say that it's honestly rust. I really think
- 40:15Speaker 8: that it's just first game, rust, good team. Now, we'll
- 40:18Speaker 8: learn about them eventually.
- 40:20Speaker 7: Could this be a harbinger the rest of the year?
- 40:22Speaker 8: I mean, are the Rams even– maybe things that happen
- 40:24Speaker 8: in week one are going to be signs the rest
- 40:26Speaker 8: of the way. I don't believe that that's going to
- 40:28Speaker 8: be the case, especially with a team that's as well-coached
- 40:30Speaker 8: as the Rams are and as loaded as they are now.
- 40:33Speaker 7: Could Stafford fall off the cliff and be an older guy?
- 40:35Speaker 8: That absolutely, I think, could be a legitimate reason– to
- 40:38Speaker 8: doubt them but for them playing as poorly as they
- 40:41Speaker 8: did with the weapons that they have i just look
- 40:43Speaker 8: at it as a they played a really good team
- 40:46Speaker 8: who was maybe just more ready at this particular moment
- 40:48Speaker 8: and maybe the rams are going to take a little
- 40:50Speaker 8: time to get going.
- 40:51Speaker 1: By the way if you're a rams fan you hope
- 40:53Speaker 1: they didn't do it correctly you hope that matthew stafford
- 40:57Speaker 1: isn't just aging you hope that it was the plane
- 41:00Speaker 1: it was the 22 hours it was the fact they
- 41:02Speaker 1: didn't get there a week before because if stafford's gonna
- 41:04Speaker 1: look like that they don't have a shot what do
- 41:06Speaker 1: you got mikey.
- 41:08Speaker 5: Is Todd from accounting fired today?
- 41:10Speaker 3: He should be.
- 41:13Speaker 5: He should be.
- 41:15Speaker 1: No, McVay should be. I mean, stop sending Todd from accounting.
- 41:19Speaker 1: How about you go and figure it out?
- 41:21Speaker 4: Todd from accounting had one job to do, and that
- 41:24Speaker 4: was how long do we need to be in Australia
- 41:25Speaker 4: to beat the 49ers?
- 41:27Speaker 5: And he failed.
- 41:28Speaker 1: So you're saying Todd called McVay and said, hey, you
- 41:30Speaker 1: guys can hop on a bird, land, play football, get back.
- 41:33Speaker 3: On the bird and go home.
- 41:35Speaker 1: That was Todd's report back to Les Snead and Sean McVay, yes?
- 41:41Speaker 5: That's exactly what happened.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Then he's been fired, yes.
- 41:44Speaker 7: They should have used more AI. I mean, come on.
- 41:48Speaker 1: By the way, is anyone else worried about AI? I mean,
- 41:51Speaker 1: you hear all these reports. I'm watching the news last night.
- 41:53Speaker 1: It's like I'm living in a movie, for crying out loud,
- 41:56Speaker 1: where AI is going to kill everyone inside of a decade.
- 41:59Speaker 3: What are we doing?
- 42:01Speaker 5: ChatGPT says we shouldn't be worried.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 42:06Speaker 8: I started reading some Twitter threads yesterday on that, and
- 42:09Speaker 8: I was like, I don't.
- 42:10Speaker 7: Think this is going to be good for my mental health.
- 42:12Speaker 7: Let me stop this. So, yeah, I'm scared.
- 42:16Speaker 8: But realistically, are humans really dumb enough to create something
- 42:20Speaker 8: that would wipe us all off the face.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Of the earth?
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:23Speaker 5: I'm wearing a Jets hat.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yes. Yes.
- 42:25Speaker 5: They're dumb enough.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Especially if it's lining their pockets.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Hey, I'm going to enjoy the next decade, and I
- 42:32Speaker 1: don't care what happens after that.
- 42:34Speaker 3: But for the next 10 years, man, I am living large. Oh,
- 42:39Speaker 3: my God.
- 42:40Speaker 7: The AI stuff.
- 42:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 7: Less AI, more reality. And more real football in the preseason.
