- 0:05Speaker 2: Just before five o'clock on a Friday and from Bethesda
- 0:08Speaker 2: to Bowie, Fairfax to Frederick, you're celebrating because Friday is
- 0:12Speaker 2: officially underway and we're all mentally ready to check out,
- 0:17Speaker 2: especially if you're a parent that's had someone in your
- 0:20Speaker 2: life go back to school this week. That routine reset
- 0:23Speaker 2: must be tough, but let's talk about what it is
- 0:26Speaker 2: that has brought you some joy today as we get
- 0:28Speaker 2: everything started. 97.1 Wash FM. It's Toby and Chili in
- 0:33Speaker 2: the morning. Chili, why are you feeling good? Because you've
- 0:35Speaker 2: made it?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yes, so I did make it. But also, I misplaced
- 0:41Speaker 3: my prescription glasses. And I cannot drive without them, right?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Because it's hard to see. And I was getting really frustrated.
- 0:48Speaker 3: And then I remembered where my backup pair was.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Gotta have a backup.
- 0:53Speaker 3: But now, the backup is the same prescriptions. thank god it's.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Not really yeah okay so.
- 0:59Speaker 3: I didn't change from this frame to my current one
- 1:02Speaker 3: anyway i remembered where my backup emergency one was and
- 1:05Speaker 3: i'm feeling good that i at least could get the
- 1:08Speaker 3: backup glasses on today oh i turned negative into a.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Positive that's right you did good for you what about
- 1:16Speaker 4: you i feel great today because little wins the laundry's
- 1:20Speaker 4: done yesterday i was a little bit concerned that There
- 1:23Speaker 4: was a pile of laundry I left in the laundry
- 1:25Speaker 4: room that I didn't wash.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And I kept like smelling myself. I was like, is
- 1:29Speaker 2: that me with that funk of 40,000 years? And I
- 1:33Speaker 2: was like, oh. And then I realized it was probably
- 1:35Speaker 2: like the aroma therapy that's in the room sometimes because
- 1:40Speaker 2: you changed it a little bit. But I got home
- 1:44Speaker 2: and I was so hellbent on doing all of the
- 1:46Speaker 2: laundry that I did it all. Now, don't ask if
- 1:48Speaker 2: it's all folded and put it away. Baby steps. All right.
- 1:51Speaker 4: But.
- 1:52Speaker 2: At least I have a complete wardrobe of clean, comfy
- 1:55Speaker 2: clothes to come in here every morning with.
- 1:58Speaker 3: In a basket.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And they don't smell like the funk of 40,000 years,
- 2:03Speaker 2: Michael Jackson. Thank you for that line.
- 2:05Speaker 3: We appreciate it. Thank you.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That's right. Well, here we go. Let's get into Friday.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We've made it through the week. You good? 866-927-4361 is
- 2:13Speaker 2: the number. Share while you guys enjoy this early morning
- 2:15Speaker 2: and stay there. Got the news on the way in
- 2:21Speaker 2: just a few minutes. Top stories at the top of
- 2:23Speaker 2: the hour. What's going on this early morning?
- 2:26Speaker 3: Well, the president has officially renamed Lake Ontario Lake America.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I've got the latest on that story and others on
- 2:33Speaker 3: the way in just a few minutes.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:39Speaker 3: The president has officially renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America,
- 2:44Speaker 3: effective immediately. He signed the executive order yesterday, citing tensions
- 2:48Speaker 3: with Canada, saying the country has treated the U.S.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Poorly.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Jury deliberations are underway in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial
- 2:56Speaker 3: in Massachusetts. Clancy admits to killing her three children, but
- 3:00Speaker 3: says that she was not criminally responsible because of postpartum psychosis.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Jurors are considering murder, manslaughter or murder. finding of not
- 3:08Speaker 3: guilty by reason of insanity. Air traffic controllers had warned
- 3:13Speaker 3: Marine One pilots about communication problems just a week before
- 3:18Speaker 3: the helicopter came dangerously close to a passenger jet near
- 3:21Speaker 3: Reagan National. The NTSB says that the warning system failed
- 3:24Speaker 3: again during the August 4th incident. A Lorton man accused
- 3:29Speaker 3: of repeatedly vandalizing a community center while wearing a ghost
- 3:33Speaker 3: face mask is now behind bars. Police say Zion Gibbs
- 3:36Speaker 3: caused about $ 8, 000 in damage during six incidents. Fairfax County
- 3:42Speaker 3: families are really upset over plans to cut high school
- 3:45Speaker 3: crossing guards. County says the change is needed to address
- 3:48Speaker 3: some staffing shortages, but parents worry about student safety at
- 3:52Speaker 3: busy intersections. And a new survey finds that nearly 9%
- 3:57Speaker 3: of U.S. adults, they say they plan to play fantasy
- 3:59Speaker 3: football this season, and nearly a quarter of those are
- 4:03Speaker 3: actually in three or more leagues. ESPN dominates as the
- 4:07Speaker 3: top platform, and winning does seem to matter because nearly
- 4:10Speaker 3: a third of former players who quit never won a league.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Forecast for today, partly cloudy with a slight chance of
- 4:17Speaker 3: a stray shower. Highs around 86, right now 70 in Herndon.
- 4:22Speaker 2: There you go with the news. Top stories at the
- 4:24Speaker 2: top of the hour. You get it here on 97.1
- 4:27Speaker 2: Watch FM with Toby and Chili in the morning. How
- 4:30Speaker 2: are you today? Your morning mindset after a very, very
- 4:34Speaker 2: long week. As we get ready for this best of
- 4:37Speaker 2: the 80s and 90s weekend, it probably shouldn't be too
- 4:41Speaker 2: much of a surprise who it is that will motivate
- 4:45Speaker 2: and inspire us one more time this week before we
- 4:50Speaker 2: get into the day. Find out who it is in
- 4:53Speaker 2: just a few. Let's get into it. Toby and Chili
- 4:56Speaker 2: in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM and it's time
- 4:59Speaker 2: for your morning mindset this Friday.
- 5:01Speaker 3: This is where we find a quote to get you
- 5:03Speaker 3: into a good headspace. And on Friday mornings, because we
- 5:06Speaker 3: kick off the best of the 80s and 90s weekend
- 5:09Speaker 3: at 5 p.m., Toby, you like to find a lyric
- 5:11Speaker 3: from either a song from the 80s or 90s. Which
- 5:14Speaker 3: is it?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Let's go back to 1980 for this one.
- 5:17Speaker 5: 1980.
- 5:17Speaker 2: The song 9 to 5, Dolly Parton. There's a little
- 5:22Speaker 2: lyric in that song that is interesting. And it might
- 5:26Speaker 2: apply to you today. They got you where they want you.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Working 9 to 5. That's right. So what is Dolly
- 5:33Speaker 2: trying to say to us in that song with the line,
- 5:36Speaker 2: they got you where they want you? Well, think about
- 5:38Speaker 2: this today. If work keeps you feeling powerless, ask what
- 5:44Speaker 2: it is that you can change instead of waiting for
- 5:46Speaker 2: your workplace to change. Seriously. Have you had that conversation
- 5:51Speaker 2: with the person in the mirror? Ask what you can
- 5:53Speaker 2: change instead of waiting for the workplace to change. If
- 5:56Speaker 2: you feel like they've got you where they want you,
- 5:59Speaker 2: you alone can answer that question. But if work is
- 6:02Speaker 2: making you always feel powerless, there's change to be found.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Find it. And let that carry you through today and
- 6:11Speaker 2: into next week. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Dolly, thank you.
- 6:15Speaker 2: We're Toby and Chili in the morning. It is 97.1
- 6:18Speaker 2: Wash FM. Hang out for just a few because next.
- 6:21Speaker 3: There's a new home design trend. encouraging people to unplug.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Do you want an analog room? You'll have to find
- 6:30Speaker 3: out what it is.
- 6:31Speaker 2: You got the lunches packed in Stafford, right? And in Riverdale,
- 6:35Speaker 2: you're thinking about rolling through that coffee drive-thru because you
- 6:39Speaker 2: need some this morning. It's 97.1 Watch FM. We're Toby
- 6:42Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. In the meantime, we wanted
- 6:44Speaker 2: to talk with you about some new trend called an
- 6:48Speaker 2: analog room.
- 6:49Speaker 3: It's a new home design trend where basically is encouraging
- 6:51Speaker 3: people to unplug. Designers say that these rooms are set
- 6:55Speaker 3: to be one of the hottest home trends this fall
- 6:57Speaker 3: because they're screen free spaces designed for activities like reading.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Maybe you're listening to music in there, playing board games
- 7:05Speaker 3: or just simply having conversations. And they want you to
- 7:08Speaker 3: arrange furniture so you can. have face-to-face interaction and use
- 7:12Speaker 3: some warm lighting and add some books in there even
- 7:16Speaker 3: getting those bluetooth speakers out and using record players instead.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think it's a great idea because every so often
- 7:24Speaker 2: you need what they call a digital detox and these
- 7:27Speaker 2: days science shows that we're addicted to these uh what's
- 7:30Speaker 2: it called notifications and devices the same way that we're
- 7:34Speaker 2: addicted to other narcotics it does the same thing to
- 7:37Speaker 2: the brain that's number one Number two, too much information.
- 7:41Speaker 2: It can cause you to become anxious. It can cause
- 7:43Speaker 2: you to become angry. It can cause you to become
- 7:46Speaker 2: depressed if you feel like you're not hearing back from somebody.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So unplug, get into an analog room and relax. Read
- 7:52Speaker 2: a book, play some games.
- 7:53Speaker 3: But couldn't you just do that in any regular room?
- 7:56Speaker 5: Sure.
- 7:56Speaker 3: This is a gimmicky thing to me. I think if
- 7:58Speaker 3: you had that kind of self-control, you would just already
- 8:01Speaker 3: have your self-control. You don't have to designate some room
- 8:04Speaker 3: in your house with no screens. That's called a bathroom.
- 8:07Speaker 2: It is called a bathroom. You're right.
- 8:09Speaker 3: If you really want to escape any screens or any devices,
- 8:12Speaker 3: what happens? People take it in there with you.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Take their devices into the bathroom.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Bathroom right so why wouldn't they oh have a weakness
- 8:18Speaker 3: and take it into the.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Analog well you know that's where you're gonna have to
- 8:22Speaker 2: eventually you're gonna have to hold yourself accountable and you're
- 8:25Speaker 2: gonna have to be responsible for yourself if all of
- 8:28Speaker 2: this stuff is causing you issues i don't necessarily know
- 8:32Speaker 2: that you need an analog room i think you probably
- 8:34Speaker 2: have bigger issues you probably want to work through with
- 8:37Speaker 2: somebody but in the meantime I get it because an
- 8:40Speaker 2: analog room to me when I think of it is
- 8:42Speaker 2: very simplistic in design and one of these great designers
- 8:46Speaker 2: Roms says that the best design is as little design
- 8:49Speaker 2: as possible and I see that as being what an
- 8:52Speaker 2: analog room is the Japanese seem to have this on
- 8:55Speaker 2: lockdown If you want to.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Read more about it, we'll have it up for you
- 8:58Speaker 3: on the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com.
- 9:00Speaker 2: In the meantime, hang out because right around 610, we've
- 9:04Speaker 2: got some news. Top stories at the top of the hour.
- 9:06Speaker 2: What's going on this morning, Chili?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Apple is warning iPhone users of a new scam, and
- 9:12Speaker 3: I'll tell you more about it coming up.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Somebody in Bowie right now listening to 97.1 Wash FM
- 9:17Speaker 2: with Toby and Chili in the morning has just been
- 9:19Speaker 2: asked where their shoes are. And somehow that became your emergency.
- 9:23Speaker 2: You can let that go for a second because we
- 9:25Speaker 2: got to tell you about the Jonas Brothers. We're Toby
- 9:27Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. Here's what you need to know.
- 9:29Speaker 3: They're going to be at Capital One Arena September 30th,
- 9:32Speaker 3: and you can be there. Just open your iHeartRadio app
- 9:35Speaker 3: to 97.1 Wash FM and click that red talkback button
- 9:39Speaker 3: and tell us why you want to see the Jonas Brothers.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Tap, speak, send. You could win.
- 9:44Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington. Coming up on Top Stories, top
- 9:52Speaker 1: of the hour.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Jury deliberations resume today in the Lindsay Clancy trial. We've
- 9:57Speaker 3: got the latest on that story and other stories.
- 10:00Speaker 2: On the way.
- 10:01Speaker 3: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Jury deliberations continue today in the Lindsay Clancy trial. She
- 10:15Speaker 3: admits to strangling her three children in 2023, but pleaded
- 10:18Speaker 3: not guilty with the defense, citing postpartum psychosis. The president
- 10:23Speaker 3: is officially renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. He signed
- 10:28Speaker 3: an executive order yesterday, making the change as the U.S.
- 10:32Speaker 3: and Canada ramp up their trade war. Nine men are
- 10:35Speaker 3: facing charges after police say they traveled to Fairfax County
- 10:39Speaker 3: after exchanging sexually explicit messages with whom they thought were children. Instead,
- 10:44Speaker 3: they encountered undercover officers. A Manassas Park high school teacher
- 10:49Speaker 3: was arrested yesterday after a resource officer reported her showing
- 10:52Speaker 3: up to work intoxicated. 40-year-old Shannon Sanders was charged with
- 10:56Speaker 3: public drunkenness, but police say no students were involved or endangered.
- 11:01Speaker 3: The Department of Justice is claiming the George Washington University
- 11:05Speaker 3: Medical School engaged in racial discrimination, claiming that it favored
- 11:09Speaker 3: black and Hispanic applicants over white and Asian ones. GWU
- 11:14Speaker 3: says it's disappointed by the claim and is reviewing it.
- 11:17Speaker 3: VDOT wants to make the I-95 express lanes two-way around
- 11:22Speaker 3: the clock instead of reversing direction during rush hours. The
- 11:25Speaker 3: proposal covers about 45 miles from Springfield to Spotsylvania and
- 11:29Speaker 3: could help reduce congestion, but it would require construction. And
- 11:34Speaker 3: Apple Insider is warning of a new scam. Fraudsters are
- 11:37Speaker 3: mailing people iPhones that they never ordered. And if you
- 11:40Speaker 3: turn it on, hackers can steal your passwords, account information
- 11:44Speaker 3: and verification codes. So police say if an iPhone shows
- 11:48Speaker 3: up that you did not order, don't turn it on.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Forecast for today, partly cloudy with a slight chance of
- 11:54Speaker 3: a stray shower. Highs around 86. Right now, 70 in
- 11:58Speaker 3: Temple Hills.
- 11:59Speaker 2: On a Friday morning, that's the news. It's 97.1 Washoe FM.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. Remember and
- 12:06Speaker 2: tell five friends. That's where you go when you need
- 12:10Speaker 2: to know. And if you want to talk about fantasy football,
- 12:14Speaker 2: stay right there because tis that season. Maybe you've drafted.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Maybe you haven't. Maybe you're working on draft strategy. Let's
- 12:21Speaker 2: talk about fantasy football names coming up in just minutes
- 12:23Speaker 2: here at 97.1 Wash FM. What's your fantasy football name,
- 12:28Speaker 2: Scamalama Ding Dong? How do you come up with a
- 12:31Speaker 2: name for a league or a new league? 866-927-4361. We're
- 12:36Speaker 2: talking this morning. Well, it's time to fire up Dolomites posse.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Fantasy football season is upon us, ladies and gentlemen. It's
- 12:44Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Don't laugh, Chili. You know how important
- 12:47Speaker 2: this fantasy football thing is to the camaraderie.
- 12:50Speaker 4: I know.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Every time, end of August, beginning of September, you talk
- 12:53Speaker 3: about your Dolomite's Posse name for your team. How many
- 12:56Speaker 3: years has that been the name of your fantasy team?
- 12:58Speaker 2: 10 to 15 years since David Ravikoff. This guy gave
- 13:00Speaker 2: me the idea once because he was a big fan
- 13:02Speaker 2: of Dolomite movies back in the day. He's like, Dolomite?
- 13:05Speaker 2: You don't know Dolomite? Dolomite don't need no posse. And
- 13:08Speaker 2: I said, well, that's a good name. Dolomite's Posse.
- 13:11Speaker 3: There's so many people out there that kind of come
- 13:13Speaker 3: up with these clever, gimmicky, punny names. I'm not one
- 13:19Speaker 3: of those people. I don't get involved in the fantasy situation.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I was going to ask, what would your team name be?
- 13:25Speaker 3: No, I'm not going to do it. OK, if I'm
- 13:29Speaker 3: a Commanders fan, maybe next year. but if you are
- 13:33Speaker 3: trying to come up with a name or if you
- 13:35Speaker 3: are very proud of the name of your fantasy football
- 13:39Speaker 3: league call us now at 866-927-4361 and tell us about.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It robert in rockville good morning what's your team name
- 13:46Speaker 2: how'd you pick it why.
- 13:47Speaker 5: My fantasy football team name is this is.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Our year so why is that a little nod to
- 13:52Speaker 2: the old dallas cowboys who seem to can't ever finish well.
- 13:55Speaker 3: As a Commanders fan, I'm right there with you.
- 13:58Speaker 2: You guys are rough. Thanks for jumping in this morning. Stacey,
- 14:01Speaker 2: thanks for listening in Ashburn this morning.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm a huge movie nerd and I love a good pun,
- 14:06Speaker 1: so don't at me, but Dak to the future.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Dak to the future. What's with all these Cowboys fans
- 14:12Speaker 2: this morning there, Chili?
- 14:13Speaker 3: I'm not liking it one bit.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But good luck with your season, ma'am.
- 14:18Speaker 3: No, don't wish her luck.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Come on now. It's fantasy football. The keyword fantasy.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Tomas. Good morning. And I could kick Maryland. What you
- 14:27Speaker 2: got for us?
- 14:28Speaker 5: My fantasy football team name is ice. Ice X.
- 14:32Speaker 3: What does that all mean?
- 14:33Speaker 2: Confident I can't be beat. So that's the name Ice
- 14:36Speaker 2: X all the way. Wait a minute. NFL commentator and
- 14:39Speaker 2: former professional NFL head coach John Gruden. Thoughts on that
- 14:44Speaker 2: name from Tomas?
- 14:45Speaker 3: There's a real impressive name.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Right?
- 14:47Speaker 2: If you want to share your fantasy football team name
- 14:50Speaker 2: with us, talk back microphone. If you're sounding, listening on
- 14:52Speaker 2: your iHeart app, tap speak and send. Looking forward to
- 14:55Speaker 2: hearing yours and stay there because in a few, Chili,
- 14:59Speaker 2: what's coming up with us?
- 15:00Speaker 3: For the first time ever, I am a car line parent.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Got to pick my kid up from school the next
- 15:07Speaker 3: two years, and I'm struggling with the timing.
- 15:09Speaker 2: If you're on 66 this morning out near Centerville and
- 15:12Speaker 2: the kids are in the backseat of the car, try
- 15:14Speaker 2: not to let 66 make you feel some sort of way.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Little ears. It's 97.1 Wash FM. The same applies to
- 15:20Speaker 2: those of you who might be sitting in a drop-off
- 15:23Speaker 2: line listening to Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 15:26Speaker 2: You know how that can be. And now for the
- 15:28Speaker 2: first time, Chili, you have joined the ranks of those
- 15:32Speaker 2: who do.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a car line parent for the first time.
- 15:34Speaker 3: My son started middle school, seventh grade this year in
- 15:37Speaker 3: Fairfax County. Up until now, he was a bus rider
- 15:40Speaker 3: and I never had to experience the stress of being
- 15:44Speaker 3: a car line parent. Although I heard a lot of
- 15:46Speaker 3: stories from those who had, you know how I am.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Being early is on time. That's my definition of on time.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Be early.
- 15:54Speaker 2: You kind of have to throw that out the window
- 15:56Speaker 2: when it comes to being a.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Car line parent.
- 15:57Speaker 3: When you don't get there in a certain window, for
- 16:00Speaker 3: the lack of a better word, you're screwed. Because then
- 16:02Speaker 3: you're like a mile back. You've got a kid who's wandering,
- 16:05Speaker 3: my kid, who wouldn't be able to find your car
- 16:07Speaker 3: in time. And then he'd have a moment. So since
- 16:10Speaker 3: day one, which was on Monday... I have been trying
- 16:14Speaker 3: to calculate and or time so that I'm there early enough,
- 16:18Speaker 3: but not too early. And I still don't have it right.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Like I'm the first car every day.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I quit beating myself up over that. Probably after the
- 16:26Speaker 2: third time I stressed out about it on the pick
- 16:28Speaker 2: on the drop off. Conversely to you, that was my job.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I had to drop my daughter Kyla off at school
- 16:33Speaker 2: and that was a pain in the tail end. And
- 16:36Speaker 2: then I just stopped worrying about it after a teacher
- 16:38Speaker 2: went off on me. But I know that's not something
- 16:40Speaker 2: you can do.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Well, I don't want anybody going off on me because
- 16:43Speaker 3: there is certain etiquette to dropping off and picking up.
- 16:47Speaker 3: And I want to make sure I'm not breaking any rules.
- 16:49Speaker 3: But now it's turned into quality time for me because
- 16:53Speaker 3: instead of being frustrated and feeling like it's not productive,
- 16:57Speaker 3: just sitting in the car waiting for my kid, I
- 16:59Speaker 3: am using that time. to answer emails. I'm using that
- 17:03Speaker 3: time to read a book. And I'm also using that
- 17:06Speaker 3: time to return phone calls. So I'm turning a negative
- 17:10Speaker 3: into a positive. And in the end, my kid wins
- 17:13Speaker 3: because he loves not having.
- 17:15Speaker 2: To look for the car.
- 17:16Speaker 3: It's right there when he walks out of the building.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And so parents who might go to school with Chili's son,
- 17:22Speaker 2: if she's there early on the pickup, she's scrolling, you
- 17:25Speaker 2: just leave her alone and let her do her thing.
- 17:27Speaker 2: That's her positive time.
- 17:29Speaker 3: No one's bothered me yet.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And I don't think that they will, Chili, because you
- 17:32Speaker 2: know what? All parents who've done the drop-off thing can relate.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Got any advice for Chili? You

- 21:41Speaker 2: D.C., All right, fire away with your guess, Corey.
- 21:43Speaker 3: I'm going to say take a vacation. Oh. Wait, wait,
- 21:46Speaker 3: you think people pass the time taking a vacation when
- 21:49Speaker 3: they're sick?
- 21:50Speaker 5: I do.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I can't say I've done it before, but I think so.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That's an interesting theory and a concept. I'm not sure

- 22:26Speaker 2: Sit around, binge watch things like movies.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Watching a movie is a good thing. Is that something
- 22:31Speaker 3: you like to do? And do you remember even the
- 22:33Speaker 3: last movie you may have watched when you weren't feeling
- 22:35Speaker 3: so well? Yeah, I mean, I'm more of a show guy,
- 22:38Speaker 3: I guess. Well, that's an excellent guess. It's the correct answer. Congratulations.

- 23:00Speaker 2: in Philadelphia? If you want to go, you've got to
- 23:03Speaker 2: listen to us Monday morning right after 7-10.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Why?
- 23:07Speaker 2: That's your Nearly Impossible Question prize next week. 7-10 Monday,
- 23:09Speaker 2: be here. And stay there because you need something that'll
- 23:14Speaker 2: make you feel good on this Friday morning.
- 23:16Speaker 3: A local college student is turning her neighbor's costly scam
- 23:19Speaker 3: into a lesson that could save the elderly across the
- 23:22Speaker 3: DMV thousands of dollars.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Let's do our very best to end this week on
- 23:27Speaker 2: a high note. It's a story that we think might
- 23:29Speaker 2: bring forth all the feels. It's our Feel Good Friday
- 23:32Speaker 2: Story 97.1. Watch FM. We're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 23:37Speaker 2: When Lakshmi Katrapudi's neighbor lost $ 30, 000 to this fake Elon
- 23:41Speaker 2: Musk video, promising instant riches, it really hit her hard.
- 23:45Speaker 2: And it hit close to home. The George Mason University
- 23:49Speaker 2: student was asking around. Realized her own grandparents barely knew
- 23:53Speaker 2: what AI even was, let alone how to spot a
- 23:58Speaker 2: deep fake. She said for her generation, AI everywhere. And
- 24:02Speaker 2: it is. But for a lot of seniors, straight up mystery.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It is.
- 24:07Speaker 3: And so she did something about it. Lakshmi launched a
- 24:10Speaker 3: community program she calls Word by World. And the point
- 24:14Speaker 3: of it is to make AI more equitable and started
- 24:16Speaker 3: showing up at senior centers across the DC area to
- 24:19Speaker 3: teach older adults how to protect themselves. She's given the
- 24:23Speaker 3: hour-long presentation more than 30 times this year.
- 24:28Speaker 2: And she's actually teaching these seniors the right way. She's
- 24:31Speaker 2: walking them through real AI-generated videos side-by-side with authentic videos.
- 24:37Speaker 2: And she's pointing out how scammers use the tech and
- 24:41Speaker 2: helps them build what she calls an AI defense toolkit.
- 24:45Speaker 2: And at this recent session at Brightview Fair Oaks in Fairfax,
- 24:49Speaker 2: a dozen seniors said in their talk, one resident said
- 24:53Speaker 2: it was downright scary, but it's exactly the awareness that
- 24:57Speaker 2: his generation needs.
- 24:59Speaker 3: I will tell you, my generation needs it, too.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I think we all do.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I really do. Lakshmi, thank you so much for doing
- 25:07Speaker 3: something about it, not just to help people. the elderly,
- 25:11Speaker 3: but really many of us with the program that you
- 25:15Speaker 3: came up with. And that is why we chose this
- 25:17Speaker 3: as our feel good Friday story.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Because you actually are making the DMV a better place
- 25:23Speaker 2: with what you're doing. Thank you for that. And by
- 25:25Speaker 2: the way, if you want to read more in our story,
- 25:27Speaker 2: find us Toby and Tilly page, washfm.com. Got something that
- 25:30Speaker 2: makes you feel all the feels any day of the week. Well,
- 25:32Speaker 2: tell us what it is. And perhaps maybe we could
- 25:34Speaker 2: feature it right here a week from today. Or even
- 25:37Speaker 2: Monday with Make Your Monday right around 740. It's 97.1
- 25:41Speaker 2: Wash FM, 810 The News. Chili, what's going on with
- 25:45Speaker 2: top stories at the top of the hour?
- 25:47Speaker 3: If you're the parent of a teenager, you're going to
- 25:49Speaker 3: want to hear this. Uber is testing a new safety feature,
- 25:53Speaker 3: and I'll tell you more about it coming up in
- 25:54Speaker 3: just a few.
- 25:55Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Thanks to Capital One. It's back, and you could be there.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Our iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas.
- 26:06Speaker 3: We want to send you there with $ 1, 000 to spend.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Listen later on 910 for the keyword to text and win.
- 26:14Speaker 5: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 26:20Speaker 5: top of the hour.
- 26:21Speaker 3: The president is officially renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America.
- 26:25Speaker 3: We've got the latest on that story and others on
- 26:28Speaker 3: the way. With Toby and Chili in the morning, a
- 26:32Speaker 3: 97.1 Wash FM.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Jury deliberations continue today in the Lindsay Clancy trial. She
- 26:42Speaker 3: admits to strangling her three children back in 2023, but
- 26:46Speaker 3: pleaded not guilty with the defense citing postpartum psychosis. The
- 26:50Speaker 3: president is officially renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. He
- 26:55Speaker 3: signed an executive order yesterday, making the change effective immediately
- 27:00Speaker 3: as the U.S. and Canada ramp up their trade war.
- 27:03Speaker 3: A Centerville man is missing after a landslide-triggered flash flood
- 27:07Speaker 3: hit the Nepal-China border while he was on a hiking trip.
- 27:11Speaker 3: So his son is now pressing the U.S. government for
- 27:14Speaker 3: search and rescue help. A Manassas Park high school teacher
- 27:18Speaker 3: was arrested yesterday morning after a resource officer reported her
- 27:21Speaker 3: showing up to work intoxicated. 40-year-old Shannon Sanders was charged
- 27:25Speaker 3: with public drunkenness, but police say no students were involved
- 27:29Speaker 3: or endangered. Virginia health officials are tracking a possible measles
- 27:33Speaker 3: exposure in Reston after a non-Virginia resident visited several spots
- 27:38Speaker 3: on August 16th, including the Sheraton Reston Hotel, a coffee shop,
- 27:43Speaker 3: and a convenience store and barbershop. VDOT wants to make
- 27:46Speaker 3: the 95 express lanes two-way around the clock instead of
- 27:50Speaker 3: just reversing direction during rush hours. The proposal covers about
- 27:54Speaker 3: 45 miles from Springfield to Spotsylvania and could help reduce traffic,
- 27:58Speaker 3: but it would require construction. And finally, Uber is testing
- 28:01Speaker 3: a new safety feature that lets parents live stream their
- 28:04Speaker 3: teens riding in real time using the driver's front-facing camera.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Both the teen and driver will get notified when a
- 28:12Speaker 3: parent tunes in and the encrypted video disappears after the
- 28:15Speaker 3: trip unless there is a safety incident. Forecast today, we'll
- 28:20Speaker 3: have partly cloudy skies with a chance of a stray shower.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Highs around 86. Right now, 70 in Boyd's.
- 28:26Speaker 2: And that's the news with Toby and Chile in the morning.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. That's what
- 28:30Speaker 2: you get with us. And if you stay right there,
- 28:32Speaker 2: we're going to talk about this meta settlement.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Wow.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Facebook is paying some serious money because of some stuff
- 28:39Speaker 2: that affects your kids. We'll break it all down, and
- 28:42Speaker 2: we're going to tell you some of these changes, which
- 28:44Speaker 2: are actually... Well, maybe not horrible. Look at that device
- 28:48Speaker 2: you've got over there. That's your phone. Maybe it's your iPad.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Perhaps maybe it's something that's got you linked into Facebook
- 28:55Speaker 2: or Instagram. You've got to hear this. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. And there's a lot
- 29:01Speaker 2: to unpack when it comes to this meta settlement. Yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 2: it happened a couple of days ago. They pretty much decided, OK,
- 29:09Speaker 2: you're right.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Maybe there is something to be said about Facebook and
- 29:12Speaker 3: Instagram being bad for kids' mental health. So they settled
- 29:16Speaker 3: for $ 17 billion. But the decision also came with a
- 29:21Speaker 3: lot of major changes for kids on social media.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Yeah, like these kids, they're going to have a two
- 29:27Speaker 2: hour a day limit, right? That's a combined two hour
- 29:31Speaker 2: a day limit on both Facebook and Instagram. And when
- 29:34Speaker 2: you reach that limit, they're going to restrict you.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Meta is going to interrupt use after 15 minutes.
- 29:40Speaker 3: of continuous use. And then mandatory pauses will happen at
- 29:43Speaker 3: 60 minutes and 90 minutes.
- 29:45Speaker 2: And kids, there's not going to be any of the
- 29:47Speaker 2: social media from midnight to 6 a.m. So go ahead
- 29:50Speaker 2: and charge your phone or turn it off.
- 29:52Speaker 3: And then during the school year, Meta is going to
- 29:54Speaker 3: eliminate any push notifications between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- 29:58Speaker 3: on weekdays because you're supposed to be paying attention.
- 30:01Speaker 2: And there won't be any of this trickery that you do, kids,
- 30:04Speaker 2: with your date of birth, you know, changing it so
- 30:08Speaker 2: you're older. So mom and dad won't know because you've
- 30:11Speaker 2: got to set up a fence to know. Not in
- 30:13Speaker 2: the new world.
- 30:14Speaker 3: And I love this as a mom, more aggressive filtering
- 30:17Speaker 3: of harmful content. Meta has to strengthen protections against bullying,
- 30:21Speaker 3: eating disorders, suicide, self-harm. All of that content is not
- 30:25Speaker 3: going to be appropriate for kids to see.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Oh, and yes, there's an independent monitor watching all of
- 30:32Speaker 2: this stuff now. Are you ready for these changes? Because
- 30:35Speaker 2: they're coming. And you know, Chili, thinking about it, these
- 30:38Speaker 2: changes are good not just for the kids. They would
- 30:40Speaker 2: be good for adults, too, because let's be honest, it's
- 30:42Speaker 2: an addiction.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and I am glad that we are, I think,
- 30:47Speaker 3: starting to go in the right direction when it comes
- 30:49Speaker 3: to social media awareness.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It's a good conversation to have with your kids. It's
- 30:55Speaker 2: an even better conversation to have with the adults in
- 30:57Speaker 2: your kid's life. And if they're a little poopy pants, oh, well.
- 31:01Speaker 2: What's that you always say, Chili? Too bad, so sad?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Sorry about your luck, but $ 17. 1 billion buys a lot
- 31:08Speaker 2: of change. If you want to read more about the
- 31:11Speaker 2: meta settlement, we got you covered. Toby at ChiliPageWashFM.com. This
- 31:17Speaker 2: guy has an unfair advantage. 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and
- 31:20Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. Who is this guy?
- 31:22Speaker 3: He is 33-year-old Pat Kennedy. He's a D.C.-based Navy lawyer
- 31:28Speaker 3: and going to be one of the competitors in the
- 31:30Speaker 3: upcoming season of Survivor.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Oh, so he's got to survive, and he went through
- 31:34Speaker 2: basic training. He's got an unfair advantage, that sailor. It's
- 31:39Speaker 2: 97.1 Watch FM.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Make sure you check it out September 23rd.
- 31:42Speaker 2: And now over two hours of commercial-free music continues. I'm
- 31:46Speaker 2: telling you, it's rigged. Tomorrow, go and eat. Eat the
- 31:50Speaker 2: food of many nations.
- 31:53Speaker 3: It's Around the World Cultural Food Festival taking place on
- 31:57Speaker 3: the Alexandria Waterfront, Orinoco Bay Park, specifically from 11 to 7.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Oh, and by the way, it's free. You've made it.
- 32:07Speaker 2: You've made it through Friday morning. You've got the kids
- 32:09Speaker 2: off to school. You've survived the first week back. Proud
- 32:12Speaker 2: of you. Toby and Chili, in the morning, it is
- 32:15Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Remember, around 9, 10, you're going to hear a keyword

- 32:28Speaker 2: to kick off this best of the 80s and 90s weekend.
- 32:32Speaker 2: And in honor of such, today's Morning Mindset comes from
- 32:36Speaker 2: Dolly Parton, whom we said goodbye to this week. From 1980,
- 32:41Speaker 2: the song, working 9 to 5. There's a line in
- 32:44Speaker 2: that song that says, they got you where the bond chewed. Yep,
- 32:48Speaker 2: they do. And if we're continually... leaves you feeling powerless.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Ask what you can change instead of waiting for the
- 32:55Speaker 2: workplace to change. Sometimes you've got to be that change
- 32:58Speaker 2: you're looking for. Dolly knew, and we know. It's 97.1
- 33:03Speaker 2: Wash FM. Have a great weekend.
