- 1:37mystery, starring George Petrie as the lawyer who's practiced before every type of bar
- 1:42has become a legend. Our locale is the city of Chicago, the time,
- 1:48the present, and the hero of these weekly adventures, The Amazing Mister
- 1:53Malone. Loan's name John J. Malone, Attorney in constort law, goodnight,
- 2:12and our study of the cliche, let's examine the familiar Early to bed
- 2:16and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wives. But that's
- 2:20true, Jeff Lewis is destined for failure. Jeff's a good looking boy,
- 2:24coming home at four in the morning. It's easy to understand why he keeps
- 2:28the same hour as I do. He's a musician. He plays piano with
- 2:30Rusty Gates band. Jeff's not the only musician in the family. He's got
- 2:35a wife who've been sound off too, But of course her solos aren't nearly
- 2:38as sweet, is that you? Jeff? Huh butt, you'd be asleep,
- 2:43Claire, my sleep. You realize what time it is? Yeah,
- 2:46it's four o'clock. Where have you been? You got off of two?
- 2:51I'm out for coffee with Rusty. He went out for coffee with Rusty,
- 2:54That's what I said. I suppose you two were alone. Oh look,
- 2:59man, we have to say start that I'm tired. You're tired. Do
- 3:02you ever think of me sitting here till all hours of the night, worrying
- 3:05myself sick, wondering what's happened to you? Thinking maybe you gotta hit by
- 3:08a car. Oh, now you're being ridiculous. Where are my jam I'm
- 3:12ridiculous. Yes, I don't know why you bother coming home at all.
- 3:15I sometimes wonder myself and why do you? Why don't you just say you're
- 3:19tired of me? If you want to know it? Oh wait, look,
- 3:23look coming Please, let's let's not fight. You know how I feel
- 3:27about you, but every night it's the same thing, over and over again.
- 3:32I'm I'm sorry, dear. I don't mean to act like this.
- 3:38I just can't stop my still. I love you so much I can't see
- 3:43straight. I love you too, honey. I don't blame you for being
- 3:47angry, but every time I see all those women hanging around the bence and
- 3:52just a bunch of jerks, I wouldn't give two cents for any one of
- 3:55them. You're a darling to put up with me. Come on, make
- 4:00you some coffee. Yeah that sounds like okay. I'll get right to work
- 4:05and maybe you can make a sandwich too. I thought you ate with Rusty
- 4:11Right when you came in. You said you were out with him. I
- 4:15was, And no, how come you're so hungry? Oh, I said?
- 4:19Was I read it there too? Read it? Oh? Haven't you
- 4:24met Rusty's wife? I thought you two were old friends. After all,
- 4:27she's been singing with the band for three years. Don't think you're fooling me.
- 4:31I know what's going on. You're out of your mind. You must
- 4:34have been, and I am now not to see it before. Well,
- 4:39I'll say one thing for you, mister Lewis. You were real clever.
- 4:42But you're not going to get away with it. Understand. I'll kill you
- 4:44first. Jeff, Jeff, where are you going? I didn't mean it,
- 4:49Jeff, Honey, Please, Jef, that's a second. Give me
- 5:11a chat. We look, you're wire. I I'm alone. What's your
- 5:15idea, Jeffy, I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I just
- 5:18dropped by. What's no matter of Claire lockyout, not that I blame her
- 5:21in your condition, you're loaded anither. That's one case I'll never get to
- 5:27handle. I bought you never touch this stuff. Oh I'm celebrating. Hey,
- 5:30you better sit down, No mind if I do. What's the trouble?
- 5:34Trouble? Who's got trouble? Obviously you have? Well you know you're
- 5:40right, Claire. Yeah, Well, I suppose it was bound to happen.
- 5:45What do you want me to do is start suit for divorce? What
- 5:47makes you say it was bound to happen? You forget I've seen her in
- 5:51action. Every time a dame asked you to play a tune, she goes
- 5:55nuts. No, she she says, she's crazy about me. I suppose
- 5:58she is. Well, why can't we make a goal? Because Claire is
- 6:01not happy unless she's tormenting herself. She's sick. Well, I'll draw up
- 6:04the papers first thing in the morning. You know you know what she said.
- 6:09She accused me of having a mad romance with reader Rusty's wife. Imagine
- 6:15me and Riata. Hey, I suppose we did. That would teach you
- 6:24If you're thinking what I think you are, forget it. Rusty would break
- 6:28your back and I wouldn't blame him. You let me get you a nice
- 6:30divorce the only girl I ever loved, and you want to see it's ah,
- 6:36Jeff, Oh, Claire needs is a lesson, and she asks for
- 6:42it, and she's gonna get it. I tell you you're handling this the
- 6:45wrong way. How would you know? You were never even married? And
- 6:48this sort of thing vindicates my judgment. You know you're a trouble Malone.
- 6:53You're a cynic, and now I'm going to prove that you're wrong. Any
- 7:08of you guys want to get something to eat? What about you? Jeff?
- 7:12You're coming along? Well? I thought Rita and I were gonna run
- 7:15over a couple of tunes. Why don't you remember? Really you said you
- 7:18want to go over that new cold porter thing. Well, that's right,
- 7:21I did. Why don't you kids do it tomorrow? You know what they
- 7:25say, Rusty never put off for tomorrow? Who you can do today?
- 7:29Aren't you? And the boys? Good? Mic for meet you? All
- 7:30right? You fellas ready? What are you waiting for? See you?
- 7:33Katling? Well, I must be losing my mind. I don't get you.
- 7:43Really, I don't remember asking you to run over any tunes with me.
- 7:46Oh sorry, I thought you did. I guess I misunderstood. No,
- 7:50you didn't. Why did you tell Russy we were going to rehearse?
- 7:54Because I've been working with you for three years and this is the first time
- 7:57you ever gave me a tumble? Wow, kild like to skip it?
- 8:01Are you kidding? Well? Shall we get right down to works? You
- 8:07know you're cute. I was wondering if you'd ever come around. Look Rita,
- 8:11I admit a mistake. You see, did I ask for any explanations
- 8:16enough? You wanted to be alone with me? No, you don't understand.
- 8:20I understand that we're wasting time. We got to meet resting, but
- 8:24you don't. Hey, we shouldn't have done that, But well I did
- 8:31it hurt. No, but I don't think anyone wants the durn this man
- 8:35for talking Lucky. I know a wonderful way to shut you out. Ll
- 8:41me a baby, let me show you? Yeah? Is that you?
- 9:00Oh? Listen, I told you before. Not Jeez, you can't hang
- 9:03up on me. You don't know what I've been going through all this week,
- 9:05ever since he moved out. I should have done it long ago.
- 9:09Maybe not even an idea what I've been through these past four years. Jeff,
- 9:13I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you if only you'll come home.
- 9:18No, Jeff, please, I promise I'll never be jealous again.
- 9:22I know you're only saying, Rita to teach me a lesson? What makes
- 9:24you think so? Because you love me? Maybe I don't anymore? No,
- 9:30Jeff, you mustn't say that you don't believe it yourself. Well,
- 9:33Claire got to get this through your head. Comes a time when a guy
- 9:37gets fed up. I've had a baby. You're the one who did the
- 9:41job. Rita Sea some variety. They herd backs working at the Riverside Hotel
- 9:58and Reno. I'll tell you later. I think we got company. There's
- 10:03a second, Claire. I'm sorry to bother you. Rusty. Oh that's
- 10:11all right, honey, come on in. Have you seen Jeff Well?
- 10:16What do you mean he hasn't been home in a week. I'm going out
- 10:20of my mind. You better sit down. You want to drink? No
- 10:22thanks, Rusty, you gotta help me. Look, Claire, I I
- 10:28don't like to interfere in somebody else's but it's your business. It never would
- 10:33have happened if it hadn't been for Rita. What she turned him against me?
- 10:37You're nuts. Look maybe she can fool you, but she can't fool
- 10:41me. I knew she was after him the minute I saw him. If
- 10:43you don't believe me trying on she is, asked her, Ask me,
- 10:48what? Don't play innocent? Rita? It's out of character, all right,
- 10:52Claire? I think you better go. You'll believe me. How can
- 10:56you be so blind? Can't you see she's nothing, but I no,
- 11:00just get out of here before I throw you off. Why don't you ask
- 11:03about the other boys in the band? Why do you think Hank's white made
- 11:07him leave? She was running after him for a lie. That's why you
- 11:11picked on Jeff. But he doesn't love you. He couldn't listen you the
- 11:13day. I couldn't take go on end of the day, you couldn't take
- 11:18what honey? What's the matter with you? You're gonna listen to a crazy
- 11:22dang? Who are you calling? Crazy? But I don't have to put
- 11:26up you? All right, Claire? All right, you said your piece.
- 11:30I just clear out. Come on, let's go with me, Let
- 11:33me go. I'll let you go when you're outside. Yes, that girl's
- 11:41insane, that's possible. Now what is this about you and Jeff? You're
- 11:50not gonna believe her, not if you can convince me she's wrongs. Yea,
- 11:52I swear there's nothing to me. I wonder Bonnie made a remark about
- 11:56you last night, about your rehearsing all the time. If you don't want
- 11:58me to look through come so suddenly you're interested? Huh? You never cared
- 12:01before, but maybe it's time we did a little work. Together. All
- 12:09right, lady, you start singing and you better make it good. Oh,
- 12:20oh, that's yes, sir. This is Jeff Lewis before nineteen.
- 12:26I called for a bellboy twenty minutes ago. What happened to him? He's
- 12:28probably on his way up, sir. How's he coming? By way of
- 12:31sister? Oh? Please see if you can onn of mine. He's here
- 12:33now a second, I said, just a second. You take a year
- 12:39and then, but what are you doing here? Shouldn't have? Oh?
- 13:03I tell it? What are you? Well? Hey, wait a minute,
- 13:07counselor how do you know? What was me? I have an answer
- 13:09to my phone this way all week? The law of average you said,
- 13:11I'd be right once. Oh you're amazing, mister Malone. That's what I
- 13:15keep telling you. What are you doing? What else will I have you
- 13:16doing at four in the morning? Ooh what I know about you? He'll
- 13:20be so funny. I assume you have a reason for disturbing me at this
- 13:22home. You assume properly. Look how soon could he get down a headquarters?
- 13:28You know, Jeff Lewis? Oh, very well? What do you
- 13:30get himself into the maugue? What are you babbling about? He was knocked
- 13:33off at two thirty this morning. Well, we kind of suspicion it was
- 13:37his wife, but naturally you're can approve we're wrong, Claire. Ask you
- 13:39upon me, you don't think I'd waste a taxpayers money on the call of
- 13:43my own. Come on down, Malone, your public's waiting. You are
- 13:48listening to the amazing mister Malone. It's the Silver Jewbil on NBC. For
- 14:01mystery adventure fans, there's more first rate radio listening Sunday with The Saint and
- 14:07Dimension X. Tom Conway stars as that deboneer gentleman adventure Simon Templar, better
- 14:13known to the underworld as the Saint who never eases his campaign against crime.
- 14:20Then later Dimension X brings you the Tales in the Future tens. This week's
- 14:24feature Pebble in the Sky, written for radio by Ernest Conoy, it tells
- 14:30the story of time when the civilization of the galaxy spreads across two hundred million
- 14:35worlds, when the black void of space swarms with ships of interstellar commerce.
- 14:39But far off the trade routes, almost forgotten, lies the dying planet Earth,
- 14:45in the backwater of the universe, a place of exile, a pebble
- 14:48in the sky Sunday on this station, and ah, back to the amazing
- 14:56mister Malone. Well, like the man says, that's life for you one
- 15:11minute, youre got it in the next minute. James Jeff Lewis found that
- 15:16out the hard way. Half hour after I got the news, I was
- 15:18on my way to headquarters, and when I walked in, I was greeted
- 15:20by Lieutenant Brooks with the most original line of the year. Well, it's
- 15:24the amazingness to my alone. You know something, Lieutenant, you could stand
- 15:28some new material. Yeah, but where am I going to find a writer
- 15:31on myself? Where's Claire Lewis? You want to see you? Now?
- 15:33What do you think I came down here for. Well, I kind of
- 15:35hoped it was me. Husband got Claire Lewis right, what's the matter with
- 15:41him? I didn't even say hello. We didn't recognize you with that briefcase
- 15:43under yourrom what you got near your laundry? Excuse me? Oh, come
- 15:46on in, Claire alone, you came uh huh, sit down and tell
- 15:56you about Jeff uh huh he dead? Jeff? I know I don't want
- 16:03to live anymore? Are you talking like a fool? I don't want to
- 16:07live without him. Why did you send him alone? He's got a point
- 16:10there, lover. No either you want me to get you off? I
- 16:11don't know what I want? What do you think killed him? Rita?
- 16:15Rita Gates? She did it? Malone? Why should she? Because she
- 16:21she knew he didn't care for He was just using Rita to get back at
- 16:23me. Did Jeff tell you that he didn't have to? When was the
- 16:26last time you saw him? I don't remember. I can tell you it
- 16:30was at two thirty this morning. He went to his hotel when he opened
- 16:33the No, no, no, no, that's true. I love Why
- 16:36don't you lay offer? Sidney? Can't you see what she's gone through your
- 16:38head? My lord? She killed him as sure as your standing. No,
- 16:41no, all right, lieutenant. You made a lot of accusations.
- 16:44But where's you're having it? We'll produce it at the trial. And you
- 16:45haven't any yet? Huh have you any? She didn't? No? I
- 16:48guess we're all in the same boat, and it's up to me to find
- 16:49a paddle. All right, Claire, take care of yourself. I'll be
- 16:53seeing you real soon. Hello, ready, Why I'm alone? I come
- 17:11in well? Rust he's not here. It's all the better. I never
- 17:15believed it's so nice to have a man around the house. If you're not
- 17:18the one, let me take you to oh bother. It's fine Now I
- 17:26should be mad at you? What on earth for? You haven't been over
- 17:30at the club to hear me sing in months? Oh, I'll never forgive
- 17:33myself. Would you feel better if I slash my wrists? You're cute?
- 17:37You ought to see me in my confirmation suit. I look like a doll
- 17:40in it? Too bad? I got to break it in at Jeff's funeral.
- 17:42Oh, we have to talk about him? Oh I would you sooner
- 17:47talk about us? And then we have to come back to Jeff. I
- 17:51don't like to start a campaign with my last rival still warm in the morgue.
- 17:56That's that supposed to me? Well, it occurred to me. Maybe
- 17:59you killing him? Are you crazy? You know when you found out he
- 18:02was playing here for a sucker? He played me for a soccer That was
- 18:04an id he got one night in my apartment. He wanted to give Claire
- 18:07something really to worry about. I try to todd him all that. What's
- 18:11the matter. Don't you think I'm cute? Anymore. Get here, don't
- 18:14you dare throw that up? Hey, you missed me. I'm convinced a
- 18:18girl like you couldn't miss twice. Maybe I'll give you another chance later.
- 18:33It's only me, rita rusty. I'm so glad I have a miserable afternoon
- 18:42rehearsal book. Real bad boys are all sick about Jeff just will be tough
- 18:48taking a new piano player. Is that all you can think of? Oh?
- 18:52No, Rassi, I explained that Clare was imagining things. You didn't
- 18:57mean a thing to mean. What was Malone doing? Malone the lawyer?
- 19:02Oh oh, he's representing Claire, he taught maybe I could help her out.
- 19:06What'd you tell him? What could I tell him? Maybe about you
- 19:08and Jeff having a deal. Oh, you're getting bad as sheet. If
- 19:11you mean I'm jealous, you're right, Only I got a good reason.
- 19:15Look, Russy, we've been all through, sure we have, and you
- 19:18convinced me Claire was nuts. Yeah, you really talked me out of it.
- 19:21But since then, honey, I've been doing a little checking and you've
- 19:23got your nerves. You know I'm crazy about you. Reader. You're no
- 19:29good. Everybody knows it, don't you talk to me like that. Who's
- 19:33got a better ride? Do you know? It's funny? It doesn't make
- 19:37any difference. I don't care what you did. I still feel the same
- 19:41way about it. Oh, I'm overwhelmed. Now. I want to know
- 19:45what Malone said. None of your business, and I'm going to find out
- 19:49if I have to shake it out. It was just one of those things,
- 20:03just one of those crazy things, one of those bills that now and
- 20:07then raise flat them alone. I'll look rusty. I can go along with
- 20:11a gag, but this is too much. You know, this is the
- 20:15third week in a row. I've walked in here and finally joint occupy.
- 20:17Better get a new lock. It's an idea. What do you want?
- 20:19I just finished having a little talk with Reader. Now I suppose it's my
- 20:22turn. What'd you say to him? Didn't ready to tell you? Maybe
- 20:26I want to compare notes. You don't have to worry, Rusty. This
- 20:30was purely business about Jeff Lewis. Yeah, yeah, she was telling the
- 20:36truth. You're trying to frame her for his murder. I don't have to
- 20:40frame her alone. If you involved Reader in this, I'll kid you.
- 20:42I mean, Nat, I believe you too. Him. It is not
- 20:45to be mentioned at Claire's trial. You understand me. Don't see how we're
- 20:48going to keep it up. I want you you bring her in and I'll
- 20:49break every bone in your bit, even my little pinky mat. Don't think
- 20:52I can. You're taking in a lot of territory. According to the Encyclopedia,
- 20:56there are hundreds of bones in the human frame. If you think I'm
- 20:57wait a minute, you would have a man who will yellow show you your
- 21:02rusty. Why can't we be friends? Just to prove I've got no heart
- 21:03beat away? I just want to get this bottle. Maybe we can split
- 21:07it together. Well that's opening it the hard way, But you'll have to
- 21:14forgive me. Friend, I forgot my cork. Screw yo hoes? Anybody
- 21:27home? Oh no? What did I do to deserve this? Wire?
- 21:32Should be grateful? Like lieutenant, I want to talk to you. Yeah,
- 21:34but the first time about hutting off that telegraph? You out of your
- 21:37mind. I'm expecting a very important flash score. The White Sox game will
- 21:41be through any minute if you won't do it. You know that's what I
- 21:48like. I like to see a man make himself at home. Where's Claire?
- 21:52Lord? You know time, where which she is. You gotta let
- 21:52her go? Oh I suppose you can prove she's this? Yes, I
- 21:56got it all figured out. I'm telling you, broch, you bring her
- 21:57to court and I'll crucify you. You haven't even established a motive for the
- 22:00girl. Ay you kidding? Claire was crazy about Jeff and she lost.
- 22:03No, she didn't. Jeff was only seeing rid it a needler. Look,
- 22:07look, Malone, I got work to do now. Now, why
- 22:08don't you go home? I can't holme in a fit place for me right
- 22:11now? You know who's there? All right? Up place straight? Who's
- 22:14there, mister Malone? Jeff floy iss killer? No, I'm serious,
- 22:17lieutenant, it's Rusty Gates. What's he doing at your place right now?
- 22:19I imagine he's dozing. I put him asleep with a bottle. What are
- 22:22you talking about? I had a conquer Why, well, it was either
- 22:26him or me, and naturally I was prejudiced. Did he have a gun?
- 22:27No, why didn't you use your fists? Are you kidding? Rusty
- 22:30must weigh two hundred and forty pounds, so we would have murdered man so
- 22:33skilled, Look, lieutenant, quit the kippitts and I tell you he killed
- 22:36Jeff why he thought Jeff was breaking up his happy home. You make it
- 22:40sound very convincing, thanks, I said it sounded convincing. Actually at eight,
- 22:44what are you babbling about now? Jeff was killed at two thirty at
- 22:47the Hillcresto Hotel. So at two thirty Rusty was doing a benefit on the
- 22:52North Shore where he was seen by eighty thousand citizens. Well that doesn't make
- 22:56sense, Yeah, that's right now. How can one man be in two
- 22:59places this is at the same time, unless he's a lazy and she is
- 23:02the only one who reads that to me. Well, it's been Grand Malone.
- 23:06Dropped by again when you can't stay so long you are listening to the
- 23:14amazing mister Milone. In this great year of Decision, the Armed Forces of
- 23:25the United States offer a greater challenge to the young men of America than ever
- 23:27before. It's a vital, exciting challenge to anyone interested in his personal welfare,
- 23:33the welfare of his nation, or the welfare of the world. Service
- 23:37in today's modern Armed Forces means a career, a career in which any man
- 23:41can take pride and satisfaction. The new training program prepares the serviceman not only
- 23:45for advancement and leadership in the Armed forces themselves, but for positions of responsibility
- 23:49in civilian life. A career in the Armed Forces means education and technical training
- 23:56in the world's best technical schools. Yesterday's volunteer service man has opportunities never offered
- 24:00before. That's why alert, intelligent young men all over the country are entering
- 24:04the Armed forces every day. The standards are high, and not everyone can
- 24:08qualify. You must have the brains, the ability, and the character to
- 24:12become a leader. But if you can qualify, go here nearest recruiting office
- 24:17for full information. Here again is the amazing mister Malone. Well, there
- 24:36was no use to I and Malone had done it again here I'd worked out
- 24:40so neatly why Rusty Gates had to be the killer and Lieutenant Brooks had to
- 24:42knock it out of my head. You think he had a grudge against me,
- 24:45the way he kept ruining my theories. Actually, Brooks is crazy for
- 24:49me. He just hides it so well. He even pools himself. You
- 24:52know you have trouble, Malone. You get emotionally involved with the clients you
- 24:56represent. Now, why can't you be like the other lawyers in town.
- 24:57Why should I hear there names on the radio? Look, I thought you
- 25:00were going to talk set. You wouldn't understand me if I did. I
- 25:03listen Sidney, you're positive that Rusty was at that benefit. Absolutely? What
- 25:06do you do? He let the band? What'd you think? How come
- 25:07Jeff Lewis wasn't there? He wasn't feeling good, so they used the sub
- 25:11When did the band go on at a quarter after two? I suppose Rusty
- 25:14got off the stand for a while. Not a chance. Besides, he
- 25:17never could make it to the hillcrest. That would take him at least forty
- 25:18five minutes to cut across town. They must have worked it somehow. Now,
- 25:22how could one man be in two places at the same time? Hey,
- 25:25I asked you that you know something, Lieutenants, I got the solution.
- 25:29Oh no, not a gain. I mean, won't you see the
- 25:32answer? No? Well, can we get all our suspects together? What
- 25:33do you mean Rada and Rusting? What about Claire? Oh of course we'll
- 25:37need heart too. We don't want to play to a house it's only two
- 25:38thirds full. We'll get on with it, Lieutenant, I'm ready to give
- 25:41the down beats say, dodgeant dogeant missus Gates? Yeah, hel On,
- 25:55you intend to keep it here? I get artist and prairie wise. My
- 25:59husband's sicking medical attention and he's gotta cut on his hand. All right,
- 26:03No, you're just trying to be brave. But her beds ready picked a
- 26:06fine time to start worrying about it. Keep out of this, Claire.
- 26:10She killed my husband and you asked me to keep off. You're really crazy.
- 26:15You's crazy, ladies? What the police think? A blood? All
- 26:23right? Let me go if I get behave I'm sorry, lieutenant. Is
- 26:36it safe for me to come in? Oh, don't worry cuts. Let
- 26:38the girls won't hurt you. I was thinking of Rusty. I forget it,
- 26:41Malone, I had it coming. That's very charitable of you. The
- 26:44idea alone. That's a very good question, reader. Fortunately I'm prepared with
- 26:47an answer. We're trying to solve the murder of Jeff Lewis she did it.
- 26:51That's what I thought for a while, Claire, but I had to
- 26:52discard that theory. The truth of the matter is Jeff didn't mean enough to
- 26:56her as far as reader was concerned. He was just another guy. I
- 26:59love her, that's no way to talk to a man who just gave you
- 27:00a clean bill of health. She didn't kill him? Who did? You're
- 27:04leaving yourself wide open there, Claire? What yeah you did it? No,
- 27:11No, that's not true. It is me too. I just don't
- 27:17understand you women here. You claim you couldn't live without Jeff when I arranged
- 27:21for you to join him. You complain, Well, I guess there's no
- 27:23pleasing some people. I can't kiddle. I just can't kiddle. There's something
- 27:45bothering you, little man? Yeah? Yeah, how you can have the
- 27:48colossal nerve to sit there and eat the loss in this whole case. That's
- 27:52gratitude for you, and after all the work I did, after all the
- 27:56way cute? Or you think clutch your case against Claire? Don't you know?
- 27:57Allout me and I have never gotten a convict. What do you eat
- 28:00that gives you so much gold? I'm perfectly serious. Why any decent lawyer
- 28:03could have gone into court and gotten an acquittal. All they would have had
- 28:06to do is cast a reasonable doubt on your evidence. I ended that doubt
- 28:10once and for all. I don't see how by taking care of all the
- 28:12other suspects I proved Rusty couldn't have killed Jeff. You'll prove with a little
- 28:17assistance from you, the unknown factor in the case was right. I knew
- 28:19she wasn't Gilly. And how did you know that? Because when I went
- 28:23up to see her this afternoon she convinced me Jeff meant nothing to her by
- 28:26making a play for me. I no woman who's lost a great love would
- 28:30have done that. Aren't you forgetting your charm? How what are you so
- 28:33bitter about here? I demonstrate to the public of their police force is on
- 28:37the job day and night, and despite all the propaganda of the contrary,
- 28:40the cops are right once in a while. Jee, Thanks, And what
- 28:44do I get out of it? Two women in the case and I wind
- 28:47up in a night spot with you? Well, don't feel too badly,
- 28:49counseler. I've got a feeling before this evening's over, you're gonna wind up
- 28:52with something else. Yeah, why the chick? Good night? Lord.
- 29:11You never hear the story of the boy who worked out a scheme that convert
- 29:15common metals into precious ones. It paid off in reverse for two honces of
- 29:21gold, he got one of lead. I'll tell you all about it next
- 29:23week. So why not pick me up at my office at the same time
- 29:26I've been waiting for you. Good nights. George Petrie was starred as John
- 29:37J. Malone, with Larry Haynes as Lieutenant Brooks. Our program is written
- 29:41by Eugene Wang and directed by Richard Lewis. The Amazing Mister Malone is based
- 29:47on a famous character created by Craig Rice and produced by Bernard L. Schubert.
- 29:52The events and characters in this story were entirely fictional, and any resemblance
- 29:56to persons living or dead is entirely coincidental. It's the Silver Jubilee on NBC.
- 30:12Straight from the pages of the Saturday Evening Post comes that famous Oriental detective
- 30:17Mister Moto created by John P. Maark One. Mister Moto stars James Monks
- 30:21in the title role. Sunday on NBC, Bred Collins speaking, the Amazing
- 30:26Mister Malone has come to you from New York. Stay tuned for the man
- 30:30called X next. O foremost NBC stations welcome back well a unusually sordid episode
- 30:48of Mister Malone. I didn't have to say that I loved Larry Haynes in
- 30:53this episode, as Brooks just did a great job on this in another case
- 31:00in which Malone didn't quite get right from the beginning, and I guess that
- 31:06was somewhat of the appeal of the show, as he wasn't always correct.
- 31:11The police work always incorrect, but that sometimes they indeed got it right,
- 31:18and Haines makes the perfect smart policeman. Foil now to listener comments and feedback.
