- 2:55Speaker 2: This is another one of those.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I didn't know you had it in your type books.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 3:00Speaker 4: So we're gonna talk a little bit about that later.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Just remember the character China, and we're not saying c
- 3:10Speaker 2: H I n A, which would make her a nice
- 3:12Speaker 2: little sweet child. We talk about c hy any one
- 3:17Speaker 2: of them sisters, okay, So remember that, okay, because what
- 3:22Speaker 2: she does. And I'm only on I think I'm chapter
- 3:25Speaker 2: three or chapter four, thinking that's chapter three, but.
- 3:30Speaker 3: That's after one hour of reading.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You guys, when a book holds me like that, Oh,
- 3:35Speaker 2: it's on and popping and disclaimer, I was reading it
- 3:40Speaker 2: while I was at work in the teamroom, so you
- 3:44Speaker 2: should see me like, oh lord, I hope this little
- 3:47Speaker 2: kid in over here reading what I'm reading. So you
- 3:50Speaker 2: know it's one of them ones. Okay, but I am
- 3:53Speaker 2: so honored to have one of my podcast sisters a
- 3:56Speaker 2: part of the Crew. You could see her show on
- 4:00Speaker 2: every other Friday night. A lot of her show is
- 4:04Speaker 2: about social issues with the family and health and mental health.
- 4:11Speaker 2: But that's enough of me introducing herself her. Okay, I'm
- 4:16Speaker 2: gonna bring up author Black Diamond.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Come on up, Garl, we come on up.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Hey Mama, Hey, I tell you I am great. Thank
- 4:29Speaker 2: you for joining us tonight. So how we always so much,
- 4:36Speaker 2: of course, So how we start off the show is
- 4:40Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Oh wait, welcome said it already that I am one
- 4:48Speaker 5: of the podcast sisters.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Here on the Crew network. So I'm just excited about that.
- 4:53Speaker 5: And I am if you can't tell by my accent,
- 4:57Speaker 5: which people say I have, which I don't feel as
- 4:59Speaker 5: though I do. You know, I am originally from New York,
- 5:02Speaker 5: and I am currently living in the DMV area with
- 5:05Speaker 5: my children. I'm parented well. Up until last year, I
- 5:10Speaker 5: said twelve children. Now I'll add two more, which is fourteen.
- 5:15Speaker 5: And I also have a bonus daughter too, so that
- 5:18Speaker 5: makes it fifteen children as well. And I guess I
- 5:22Speaker 5: must be crazy. Some people that say that I am,
- 5:24Speaker 5: and I say that I am too. The young one
- 5:28Speaker 5: is two and she's a pistol and I believe some
- 5:32Speaker 5: of you may have met her already on some of
- 5:34Speaker 5: my shows. She tries to take them over. I am
- 5:40Speaker 5: a social worker here in the DMV area and I'm
- 5:43Speaker 5: also an author. I have a candle business, and I.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Just love life. I just love doing what I'm doing
- 5:51Speaker 3: right now.
- 5:53Speaker 2: See y'all remember that turn off the lights? That was her,
- 5:57Speaker 2: That was her candles.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I missed it. I know, y'all, think of what does
- 6:03Speaker 3: she talk about?
- 6:04Speaker 2: So we used to do intermissions between our show, and
- 6:07Speaker 2: we used to always have her candles and then we
- 6:10Speaker 2: sitting up here behind seeing what was sure because it
- 6:15Speaker 2: was a time for us to be lax, but also
- 6:19Speaker 2: a chance for her to advertise her wonderful budding brand
- 6:23Speaker 2: that she has coming up. I still need to give
- 6:25Speaker 2: me a candle. I had to stop using candles because
- 6:29Speaker 2: I fall asleep with them on.
- 6:33Speaker 3: You got to scare up with that? Yes, so.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Black Jiming the author? How did this come about?
- 6:47Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Being a writer, that's not something that I wanted to do.
- 6:52Speaker 5: I didn't even like reading books when I was in school.
- 6:55Speaker 5: I just I loved school, but to read I just
- 6:58Speaker 5: wasn't interested. I was more interested than what the teacher
- 7:01Speaker 5: or the professor had to say. I figured, history repeats
- 7:06Speaker 5: itself anyway, so why bothered to read it? It's going
- 7:08Speaker 5: to repeat itself next year, in the year after that,
- 7:09Speaker 5: and yet after that. So it wasn't something that I
- 7:11Speaker 5: was interested in doing. But I started writing a book
- 7:18Speaker 5: about maybe thirty years ago, but it wasn't published until
- 7:22Speaker 5: twenty ten. And it wasn't even the same book that
- 7:25Speaker 5: I got published. What I got published was my first book,
- 7:29Speaker 5: and that was called In my Mother's House, and that
- 7:32Speaker 5: was basically about things that happened to me in my
- 7:36Speaker 5: mother's house. And if you had ever come to my
- 7:39Speaker 5: mother's house, you maybe mentioned in there, maybe once or twice.
- 7:42Speaker 5: But it was just I wanted people I wouldn't even
- 7:45Speaker 5: say people. At the time that I wrote the book,
- 7:48Speaker 5: I wasn't living in New York anymore. I was living
- 7:51Speaker 5: in a DMV area, and I wondered if I ever
- 7:54Speaker 5: had any grandchildren, who would tell them about me? And
- 7:57Speaker 5: I figured the best person to tell them about me
- 7:59Speaker 5: was me. So I wrote the book in my mother's house,
- 8:01Speaker 5: and I wanted my grandchildren to know who their grandmother was.
- 8:05Speaker 5: So I wrote the book. I got it published, and
- 8:08Speaker 5: I just gave a copy to one of my children,
- 8:10Speaker 5: and each one of my children had one, so I
- 8:12Speaker 5: figured that was it. But then I realized that people
- 8:14Speaker 5: were buying it, and I said, oh, people are actually
- 8:19Speaker 5: buying the book, and I just started writing. But I
- 8:24Speaker 5: always write things that either I experienced or.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Things that I threw myself into.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I'll say that, see, your writing was from experience.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So which one of those books have that experience of
- 8:43Speaker 2: motherhood in it?
- 8:47Speaker 5: I would say the first one in my mother's house,
- 8:50Speaker 5: it does, I would say the series of children's books
- 8:57Speaker 5: on foster can adoption, that's all about parenting. It takes
- 9:02Speaker 5: people on the dream of no one giving you more
- 9:06Speaker 5: insight into adoption and forced to care. Because a lot
- 9:10Speaker 5: of people say that they want to be a Forster parent,
- 9:12Speaker 5: but I don't really think they know and understand it.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So I put it in Layman's terms.
- 9:16Speaker 5: But the idea came when my then nephew who's now
- 9:21Speaker 5: my son, asked why was I adopting him and why
- 9:25Speaker 5: was he enforced a kid? And he didn't know, and
- 9:26Speaker 5: I thought they told him at ten years old he
- 9:28Speaker 5: should have known.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 9:31Speaker 5: And I told him what I knew of his story
- 9:35Speaker 5: of how he was enforced a care and why I
- 9:38Speaker 5: was adopted him. And afterwards I asked him was he
- 9:41Speaker 5: okay with what I had said, because what I had
- 9:42Speaker 5: told him was his truth? And he said that he was.
- 9:45Speaker 5: But I wasn't okay because I just didn't like this story.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I didn't like his story. I didn't like the way
- 9:50Speaker 5: that his life was going. And I had to sit
- 9:53Speaker 5: and think for a while. And when I looked, I
- 9:54Speaker 5: saw his younger sister and I said, oh my gosh,
- 9:56Speaker 5: you may ask me the same question someday. So I
- 9:58Speaker 5: want to be prepared. I want to be more prepared
- 10:00Speaker 5: than I was for him. I started writing it down
- 10:03Speaker 5: and I said this could be a book, and I
- 10:05Speaker 5: made it a book. It was supposed to have been
- 10:08Speaker 5: just one book, but it wound up being read books
- 10:12Speaker 5: in addition with a color and activity book. And that's
- 10:15Speaker 5: to engage children because it's so hard to engage them
- 10:18Speaker 5: as a social worker when they removed and separated from
- 10:21Speaker 5: their home. So I get the series of Stacey f
- 10:26Speaker 5: Children's books on force they can adoption.
- 10:29Speaker 3: So it didn't end there.
- 10:32Speaker 5: We decided to go a little further and talk about
- 10:35Speaker 5: the teenagers that are hard to adopt. People don't want
- 10:39Speaker 5: to adopt teenagers because they get such a bad rat.
- 10:42Speaker 5: We know what we were like when we were teenagers,
- 10:44Speaker 5: and we were a little authorok, but right about now
- 10:47Speaker 5: it's different. But they still need to be in loving homes.
- 10:51Speaker 5: No one acts to be abused, No child acts to
- 10:53Speaker 5: be abused. And I know the intent is to be
- 10:57Speaker 5: a parent, but sometimes some individuals don't have the stools
- 11:03Speaker 5: to be a parent too's children. So we did a
- 11:09Speaker 5: book called thirteen eighty prospect Avenue and that book came
- 11:13Speaker 5: about what the title came about, because that was where
- 11:16Speaker 5: my siblings and relatives grew up in the Bronx in
- 11:20Speaker 5: New York at thirteen eighty Prospects and they would always
- 11:23Speaker 5: talk about the fun they had, and how you can
- 11:25Speaker 5: walk away from the door and leave it open and
- 11:27Speaker 5: nobody would going home, and you can ask the nable
- 11:29Speaker 5: to watch your children and don't have to worry about
- 11:32Speaker 5: your children, and it just life was good. And I
- 11:35Speaker 5: just wished that all that light and the things that
- 11:38Speaker 5: they were doing and the places going. So I took
- 11:42Speaker 5: the address and I made my own thirteen eighty Prospect
- 11:46Speaker 5: as if I was there, and we did the book
- 11:50Speaker 5: thirteen eighty Prospect Avenue, not another brouncetail, because it wasn't
- 11:54Speaker 5: just another Bronx tail.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And then we did the.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Book trail and Teler was supposed to be moving, but
- 12:00Speaker 5: we ran into well here, so we have to stop
- 12:03Speaker 5: feeling from the trailer, and we just left it that.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I want to say thank you because working at the
- 12:11Speaker 2: public libraries, we do have a lot of parents that
- 12:14Speaker 2: call and ask for those difficult topics, those difficult subjects,
- 12:20Speaker 2: and to have a book to give them so.
- 12:23Speaker 4: They can read with that child.
- 12:27Speaker 2: It's so so helpful, very much helpful. I've had parents
- 12:37Speaker 2: acts about I don't know how to talk about the
- 12:40Speaker 2: loss of my mother to my child. There's a book
- 12:43Speaker 2: called I Love You Grandma, I don't know how to
- 12:46Speaker 2: talk to my child about.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Them being in foster care. Here's a book about that.
- 12:53Speaker 4: You know that. I really feel that that reading.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Is the bridge that helps have those hard conversation become
- 13:05Speaker 2: much easier.
- 13:06Speaker 3: So thank you.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I appreciate you doing that because I'm not gonna say
- 13:14Speaker 2: it makes I don't want to say it makes life easy,
- 13:19Speaker 2: because it won't because of the situation, but it makes
- 13:24Speaker 2: the situation easy to be talked about.
- 13:27Speaker 5: If that makes it does it makes it related because
- 13:32Speaker 5: we decided to make it generic and not use terminology
- 13:36Speaker 5: that only a social work or someone in that profession
- 13:38Speaker 5: would now, So it does meet families where they are.
- 13:43Speaker 5: So if you are in the process of adopting a child,
- 13:48Speaker 5: then you can talk about it in that book. If
- 13:51Speaker 5: you are in the process of wanting to be a
- 13:53Speaker 5: foster parent, then you have the book. So it doesn't
- 13:57Speaker 5: matter where're at in journey of foster care adoption and
- 14:00Speaker 5: you can pick up the book and be able to
- 14:03Speaker 5: talk about it. You can talk about it to your
- 14:06Speaker 5: significant other if you want to make a decision. You
- 14:08Speaker 5: can talk about it to the child that's in your
- 14:11Speaker 5: home because they can relate to the character and this
- 14:15Speaker 5: couple of the books of characters, and there's just regular
- 14:18Speaker 5: things that happen with kids, you know, growing up, of
- 14:21Speaker 5: being around family and going places and doing things. So
- 14:24Speaker 5: we just wanted to make it that simple for them,
- 14:27Speaker 5: for them to get a better understanding of maybe who
- 14:30Speaker 5: they are and where they need to be. So we
- 14:33Speaker 5: just wanted to meet them where they were at. And
- 14:35Speaker 5: everybody is not in the same place at the same time,
- 14:37Speaker 5: so we just made it in a generic way.
- 14:43Speaker 2: You can't say it any better. It meets you where
- 14:45Speaker 2: you're at. So of course here and at Book Down
- 14:50Speaker 2: and Friends, we are focusing on motherhood. So my question
- 14:54Speaker 2: to you is what traits of motherhood help you you
- 15:00Speaker 2: with your writing process?
- 15:04Speaker 3: Oh, they put me through it every day. My children.
- 15:07Speaker 5: They put me through it every day, each and every
- 15:11Speaker 5: one of them. With the different personalities. I can pick
- 15:15Speaker 5: and pull and maybe write a story on each and
- 15:17Speaker 5: every one of them, my biological children with them growing
- 15:23Speaker 5: up and I have three, two men and a young lady,
- 15:28Speaker 5: and growing up they would always say your mommy's favorite,
- 15:32Speaker 5: your mommy's favorite.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Your mommy's favorite.
- 15:34Speaker 5: And I said, you know what, you are absolutely right,
- 15:37Speaker 5: I do have a favorite and I'm not going to
- 15:40Speaker 5: sit here and lie about it, and that's I'm gonna
- 15:42Speaker 5: be honest. I'm probably one of the only mothers that
- 15:44Speaker 5: will tell their children that she do have a favorite.
- 15:47Speaker 5: So I turned into my own this son, and I
- 15:52Speaker 5: said to him, you are my favorite because you're the
- 15:55Speaker 5: first child I ever gave her to. And I turned
- 15:58Speaker 5: to my daughter and I said to her, you are
- 16:00Speaker 5: my favorite because you're.
- 16:01Speaker 3: The only daughter that I can bring.
- 16:04Speaker 5: And I looked at my youngest, which is my son,
- 16:06Speaker 5: and I said, you are my favorite because you are
- 16:09Speaker 5: the last child by my husband. So you all are
- 16:13Speaker 5: my favorite in different ways, because you all also have
- 16:16Speaker 5: different needs in different and believe me, they're different ones.
- 16:19Speaker 5: But they even the foster care once now adopted, in
- 16:24Speaker 5: custody and guardianship, it's the same thing with them.
- 16:28Speaker 3: They all in at different times in my life.
- 16:31Speaker 5: And to tell you the truth, they may not realize it,
- 16:35Speaker 5: but I think that I needed it at the time
- 16:36Speaker 5: that they came into my life. So they are my
- 16:40Speaker 5: favorites in different ways for different reasons. And they work
- 16:44Speaker 5: on my nerve in different ways and for different reasons.
- 16:48Speaker 5: So parenting them it opened me up to a lot
- 16:53Speaker 5: of different things where I could have been closed, but
- 16:57Speaker 5: it opened.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Up to a lot of different things. So I do.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I don't thank them enough, but I do appreciate them.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I know.
- 17:05Speaker 5: I yelled, holler, screen, complain and everything else because I
- 17:10Speaker 5: want the best for them in ways that I would
- 17:13Speaker 5: give my knife for it, and I don't think that
- 17:16Speaker 5: they get that from me. For those children that had
- 17:20Speaker 5: not been on that journey that my children were on
- 17:22Speaker 5: with me when we had to basically run for our lives,
- 17:27Speaker 5: they don't understand it, you know. And for those who
- 17:30Speaker 5: were with us, the two that was with us, they
- 17:34Speaker 5: thought I was the mean auntie because I wouldn't let
- 17:37Speaker 5: them go out. But I couldn't let them go out
- 17:40Speaker 5: because we were in the witness protection program, so I
- 17:43Speaker 5: just had to be limited on what I could do
- 17:45Speaker 5: with them. And then there was a time that we
- 17:47Speaker 5: had a hit put out on us so we could
- 17:49Speaker 5: we had to run and escape for a live. So
- 17:51Speaker 5: there was different things that I have experienced that I'm
- 17:56Speaker 5: still a little lary about the things that they do.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Even still asks where are you, where you going? Who
- 18:03Speaker 3: you with? You know, and I said, that's just a
- 18:05Speaker 3: part of who I am. Am.
- 18:07Speaker 5: I don't mean any harm by it. But when you
- 18:09Speaker 5: lived the way that I've lived, you you really have
- 18:12Speaker 5: no other choice but to do that. But I try
- 18:15Speaker 5: to ease up sometimes, but it's just it's just that
- 18:19Speaker 5: my kids and I remember hearing the celebrity say I
- 18:24Speaker 5: brought you in this room and take you out. If
- 18:26Speaker 5: they're gonna go out, they're gonna go out with me,
- 18:28Speaker 5: not at the hands of somebody else.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And that's just the way that I feel. And I'm
- 18:32Speaker 3: not trying to be this big bad person.
- 18:34Speaker 5: It's just that I've experienced enough and I don't want
- 18:37Speaker 5: any harm to come to them because they're treasured in
- 18:40Speaker 5: a way that I don't think that they would get
- 18:42Speaker 5: until they become an adult. And my son brought that
- 18:44Speaker 5: to my attention. Mind, now I know what you meant
- 18:46Speaker 5: by this. So I smiled when he said that because
- 18:49Speaker 5: I said he gets it.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yes, I didn't. I didn't understand my mom.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I was twenty twenty when I had first left the house,
- 19:00Speaker 2: and always where are you going?
- 19:03Speaker 3: And who are you gonna be?
- 19:04Speaker 4: How your min in my business?
- 19:07Speaker 3: Going back and forth.
- 19:08Speaker 2: But then I now have the twenty two year old
- 19:11Speaker 2: with the car, will you go? I mean to ask
- 19:17Speaker 2: you that, oh mym' going to store.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I'll be right back, Okay. Cool. And it's like, I'm not.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Wanting to be that way, but i have to because
- 19:27Speaker 2: I'm your mother, and I feel like if I'm not
- 19:30Speaker 2: like that, then that to me, it doesn't make me
- 19:33Speaker 2: feel like I'm being your mom the way I would
- 19:36Speaker 2: like to be your mom, not the way you need
- 19:38Speaker 2: me to be, but the way I want to be.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Because if I'm being your mom the way I want
- 19:42Speaker 2: to be, then am I am meeting those needs? You know?
- 19:51Speaker 3: And with the ten year old.
- 19:54Speaker 2: If you want another one, I got one for you. You
- 19:57Speaker 2: want to.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Know, right, and I have I have an eight year
- 20:01Speaker 3: old that she can hang out with.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Okay, see me address.
- 20:13Speaker 5: You know, I tell my mom, you know, at her
- 20:16Speaker 5: age and my age, I still tell her where I'm going.
- 20:19Speaker 5: You know, even just now I said, Mom, be back,
- 20:21Speaker 5: I'm going downstairs at a podcast. If I'm going to
- 20:23Speaker 5: the store, I say, mom, be back, I'm going to
- 20:25Speaker 5: the store. That's just a force of habit. But it
- 20:27Speaker 5: makes me feel good. You know, the only thing I
- 20:30Speaker 5: would feel bad about it is if I don't come back. So,
- 20:33Speaker 5: you know, and at her age and the stage in life.
- 20:36Speaker 5: I always try to tell her my I'll be back,
- 20:40Speaker 5: you know, I'm just running to the store. And then
- 20:42Speaker 5: when I come back through the door, I see I
- 20:43Speaker 5: head pick up and then she said, oh, you're back,
- 20:46Speaker 5: and I'll say yeah. So I tell her where I'm going.
- 20:49Speaker 5: I'm going to work, I'm going to the store. I'm
- 20:51Speaker 5: heading back up to New York. I'm going here, I'm
- 20:53Speaker 5: going there, And this is who I'm with, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 5: I I tell her that's just the way that I feel.
- 20:59Speaker 5: You know, I would hope my children will do that,
- 21:01Speaker 5: but if they don't, I'm still going to worry no
- 21:04Speaker 5: matter what. I'm still going to worry where there's few
- 21:06Speaker 5: that's not around me right now. And I tend to worry,
- 21:09Speaker 5: and they say, stop worrying. You just can't, your mother,
- 21:12Speaker 5: you can't turn it off.
- 21:13Speaker 3: You can't turn it off.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Oh, I'm checking my ten year old's phone to see
- 21:20Speaker 2: where the bus is at. I know she's on that bus.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I know she's safe, but it's just the mother and me.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I gotta follow that little bus book. And I never
- 21:32Speaker 2: knew I would be this way because I remember when
- 21:34Speaker 2: I was younger, my mom was stilling this to me.
- 21:37Speaker 3: My first words, I will never.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Be a mom like this.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and look at me now.
- 21:44Speaker 2: So if you can recommend the book that you wrote
- 21:54Speaker 2: for a mom, what book would it be?
- 22:06Speaker 3: Now? When I said mom, I really didn't.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I really do not like saying Mother's Day.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I like to say Women's Day because I have one
- 22:15Speaker 2: sister that has no kids, but she treats my daughter
- 22:19Speaker 2: like her human Barbie doll.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Every time she go.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Her and Naya are in ultra Why that's not me.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But I don't want her to not have that experience
- 22:31Speaker 2: of going perfume shopping and stuff like that. So tig
- 22:35Speaker 2: her bring her back in one piece. This is so
- 22:40Speaker 2: let's just say, if you could recommend any book of
- 22:44Speaker 2: your books to someone that's taking care of a child
- 22:48Speaker 2: or an adult or just being a caregiver in any
- 22:51Speaker 2: type of way for him and fashion, what book would
- 22:54Speaker 2: it be and why would you cheat that book?
- 22:58Speaker 5: I would say Stacy f My Forever Mommy. And I
- 23:05Speaker 5: think the title says it alone. It's it's the children's book.
- 23:08Speaker 5: I would say that Stacy f my Fearoly mommy, because
- 23:11Speaker 5: Stacey finds her forever family, her forever mommy, and that
- 23:15Speaker 5: mommy finds her forever child. So they have each other
- 23:20Speaker 5: in there, and you see the process of what someone
- 23:24Speaker 5: would go through just to be able to share their
- 23:27Speaker 5: love with a child that they didn't birth. So for
- 23:30Speaker 5: those who did birth and for those who have their
- 23:33Speaker 5: biological parents, you see what this person went through to
- 23:39Speaker 5: have this child, and you understand it a little bit
- 23:42Speaker 5: better of the process. So I'm hoping that both sides
- 23:47Speaker 5: will see it growing up. Maybe it's eleven year old
- 23:49Speaker 5: or thirteen year old, and if they're adopted, they'll see
- 23:53Speaker 5: what their adopted families may want to go to. We
- 23:56Speaker 5: also what we did with that book, We did the
- 23:59Speaker 5: Forever Candle. So we celebrate that every November for National
- 24:05Speaker 5: Adoption Day. So we create the Forever candles for all
- 24:09Speaker 5: the families who have adopted children and they get the
- 24:13Speaker 5: forever candles. So yeah, I would say it be that book.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Alright.
- 24:18Speaker 3: So now it's fun.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Time to say I didn't sing you those questions.
- 24:25Speaker 3: So we always have a period.
- 24:28Speaker 2: We have fun with our authors. Okay, I love music.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I love I want to say pop cultural, but I
- 24:36Speaker 2: won't say I love TV, but I do like some
- 24:39Speaker 2: shows on TV. Okay, I'm gonna put a pitch, y'all
- 24:43Speaker 2: go look at the pit. I did that Sunday, mind blowing.
- 24:48Speaker 6: So if you can get any actress to play China
- 24:56Speaker 6: from Habitual Liar, cool, did it bend and I'll tell y'all,
- 25:05Speaker 6: I'll let her tell y'all a little bit about that book.
- 25:07Speaker 4: But who would it be?
- 25:12Speaker 5: Instantly, Well, who came to me was Regina King. I
- 25:17Speaker 5: would say Regina King. Now, the only thing that's different
- 25:22Speaker 5: is because China. If you look at the cover of
- 25:27Speaker 5: the Book of China, you can't tell her culture. And
- 25:31Speaker 5: that's the way I wanted it. You cannot tell because
- 25:33Speaker 5: for one, I didn't want to insult anybody's culture, so
- 25:38Speaker 5: I wanted it to be specifically done and it was
- 25:42Speaker 5: very detailed in the way that she had to look.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But I would say Regina King. Well, for one, I
- 25:48Speaker 5: love Regina King, and for two, she would bring that part.
- 25:56Speaker 5: And I'm gonna say that part for those who didn't
- 25:59Speaker 5: read the book. When you say really, they'll know what
- 26:02Speaker 5: part I'm talking about. But I remember Regina King was
- 26:05Speaker 5: on an Awards show and she was introducing Angela Bassett
- 26:10Speaker 5: and she did the role that Angela did when Angela
- 26:14Speaker 5: Burned Burned the clothing and the story.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And Rgina came out and did that.
- 26:21Speaker 5: I just fell apart and I had to stand and
- 26:23Speaker 5: get our standing all. And I said, thinking about it
- 26:27Speaker 5: now looking at her, I said, she would give that
- 26:30Speaker 5: no disrespect, Miss King. She's a little older, but she
- 26:34Speaker 5: would still fit the role because my character China is
- 26:37Speaker 5: younger than Regina King. But I think that Regina would
- 26:41Speaker 5: be the person that I would love to choose.
- 26:45Speaker 2: You got me with that one, did I did not
- 26:47Speaker 2: see Regina King, But now that you're describing.
- 26:50Speaker 4: And I too, I was seeing.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Kiki Palmer.
- 26:59Speaker 5: I don't like she would be no disrespect to her either,
- 27:02Speaker 5: but I don't think she would be up for that.
- 27:05Speaker 5: And I would love to keep Kiki for who she is,
- 27:09Speaker 5: for who I see how she is. I still see
- 27:11Speaker 5: an innocence in Kiki. Fact, I would not want to
- 27:16Speaker 5: not to say that Regina isn't. But she's older, and
- 27:19Speaker 5: I'm quite sure she's probably more experienced in in in life,
- 27:22Speaker 5: I'll say, and I don't think that Kiki has. And
- 27:27Speaker 5: in order for to play the role of China, you
- 27:30Speaker 5: would have to do what I did, and you would
- 27:32Speaker 5: have to go into the character. That's how I developed China.
- 27:38Speaker 5: You have to go into the character.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Tianna.
- 27:44Speaker 2: This could.
- 27:46Speaker 5: Tianna could, but Tianna I I can see it, but
- 27:58Speaker 5: it's a It's just a I would like a little
- 28:00Speaker 5: softer but with that edge.
- 28:04Speaker 2: So you guys, I'm only on chapter I want to say,
- 28:06Speaker 2: three or four, so I haven't gotten deep in it yet.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So the chapters I've read so far, all, like.
- 28:15Speaker 4: I say, is I didn't know she had it in them.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Y'all know me?
- 28:22Speaker 4: You know what, Let's hear from the author herself. Tell
- 28:25Speaker 4: us a little bit about this.
- 28:28Speaker 5: One, the habitual liar. I honestly hadn't planned on writing that.
- 28:39Speaker 5: I was really sitting in my car one day, and
- 28:41Speaker 5: that's how I usually write. Things will come to me,
- 28:44Speaker 5: and it'll come to me, and I can write a book.
- 28:47Speaker 5: You could be talking about something. You could be at
- 28:48Speaker 5: a conference and somebody can talk about whatever the subject is,
- 28:51Speaker 5: and by the end of the conference, if something grabbed
- 28:54Speaker 5: the wold of me, I can just finish the book
- 28:56Speaker 5: just in my mind, and I'll go home and I'll
- 28:58Speaker 5: just start writing and just be a book. This book
- 29:03Speaker 5: took me five years to write, and I had to
- 29:07Speaker 5: go into therapy for it. I was seeing a psychiatrist
- 29:10Speaker 5: and the therapist to do this book because I almost
- 29:13Speaker 5: lost to myself because I put myself in this character
- 29:18Speaker 5: in order to develop this character, and if you're not careful,
- 29:23Speaker 5: you can lose yourself when you do certain types of books.
- 29:27Speaker 5: So that's that's one of the reasons why I took
- 29:29Speaker 5: so long, because I had to. I had to get
- 29:33Speaker 5: into that character and come very close to a lot
- 29:36Speaker 5: of things that occurred in that book.
- 29:39Speaker 3: So I haven't read the book. I never do.
- 29:42Speaker 5: I never read my own books. I write them and
- 29:44Speaker 5: I just let it go. But there is something I
- 29:47Speaker 5: want to show you. I'm not sure if you're at
- 29:49Speaker 5: that part yet, but there's a little something that I have.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Oh, I have gotten that. What's that else? Y'all don't
- 30:01Speaker 3: laugh at me.
- 30:06Speaker 5: I can't see because this is something that I've taken
- 30:09Speaker 5: from the book, and this is something that I've used.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Okay, okay, I'm.
- 30:20Speaker 5: So you're gonna rewind and rewatch and you're recording, and
- 30:23Speaker 5: so you'll blowed up a little bit. You start to
- 30:27Speaker 5: get to a certain part of that and then you'll
- 30:29Speaker 5: understand what that is.
- 30:31Speaker 2: See, I was gonna go back and finish I can't
- 30:35Speaker 2: do it. I was supposed to go back and finish
- 30:38Speaker 2: my review book, and I ain't even worry about that
- 30:41Speaker 2: book no more. I'm gonna have to I'm sorry, off
- 30:43Speaker 2: the frame. I'm gonna get through your book, but I'm
- 30:45Speaker 2: gonna have to finish this because see she got she
- 30:49Speaker 2: she's got demonstration and stuff and things, and.
- 30:53Speaker 4: She okay, yeah, I ain't gonna.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Sleep to let We'll take you there. So you know,
- 30:58Speaker 3: I just I would just tell the people.
- 31:01Speaker 5: I wouldn't suggest everybody do what I just did as
- 31:04Speaker 5: far as putting yourself into it, but that's what I
- 31:07Speaker 5: do with my books.
- 31:08Speaker 3: As far as the children's books. I'm a forceter parent.
- 31:10Speaker 5: I'm adopted fan, so I already lived that life. In
- 31:15Speaker 5: order for me to give the readers what I'm expecting
- 31:21Speaker 5: for them to get, I need to make sure it's
- 31:23Speaker 5: right because I don't want to give you junk. And
- 31:26Speaker 5: in order for me to give you present you to China,
- 31:31Speaker 5: I had to go there in order to give her
- 31:34Speaker 5: to you, because I wasn't going to hand China to
- 31:36Speaker 5: you in a garbage can. And I'm very very protective
- 31:40Speaker 5: of China and some of the other characters in the book, so.
- 31:45Speaker 2: It's gonna be alone. Yeah, no, might to be read
- 31:52Speaker 2: list is just growing every day. And maybe first it's
- 31:57Speaker 2: the producer who had the poetry book that be wanting
- 32:00Speaker 2: to jump people bones.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Now we got China over here, y'all making life.
- 32:09Speaker 3: So beautiful for Scie book.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Gall I just love it and then I get to
- 32:13Speaker 2: go and I get to tease people.
- 32:15Speaker 4: So I didn't do any teasers for a Viitual Liar.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And the reason why I didn't do any teases is
- 32:20Speaker 2: because I just started it. Okay, y'all know how I
- 32:25Speaker 2: will put reading this and then put oh my God
- 32:27Speaker 2: and stuff like that. So be prepared for some of
- 32:30Speaker 2: those tonight because I will stop in the middle of
- 32:32Speaker 2: reading and.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I won't give it to you. Now, I'm not gonna
- 32:35Speaker 3: give you the book.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Just make sure you watch out for the interviews because
- 32:39Speaker 2: you know I'm bringing them to you.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Okay, So you know what, there's a book trailer out
- 32:44Speaker 5: for the Habitual Liar and now she could tell me
- 32:49Speaker 5: now on Facebook. So it's a book trailer out for
- 32:52Speaker 5: the Habitual Liar.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna go on her Facebook phases for me,
- 32:57Speaker 2: and then when I find it, I'm gonna share it
- 32:59Speaker 2: with you guys.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Oh oh, somebody said, what about Carrie Washington?
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Kerry Washington. You know, certain people for me when
- 33:10Speaker 3: I see them and the wonderful actresses, it's just something
- 33:15Speaker 3: about them that I just like to keep their innocence.
- 33:18Speaker 3: And I know they can do the work, but it's
- 33:20Speaker 3: just certain people that I'm looking for.
- 33:22Speaker 5: And as far as this book is concerned, we're looking
- 33:25Speaker 5: at making it a movie.
- 33:28Speaker 3: We're looking at it because there's other things that's going
- 33:30Speaker 3: along with it. Did you just say make it a movie? Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 3: We're working on book three right now. So the two
- 33:42Speaker 3: of the books. Is there another book right after this.
- 33:45Speaker 5: One, right after this one is called It's I'm not
- 33:50Speaker 5: gonna say it's a book. I'm gonna say it's a thing.
- 33:54Speaker 5: So we have book one, then we have a thing,
- 33:57Speaker 5: and then we've got book three.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Can you in box me and tell me what the
- 34:03Speaker 2: thing is so I can be prepared. I can't do
- 34:06Speaker 2: that now, my nephew said, you know, my friend, no more.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I just want to take people by surprise.
- 34:16Speaker 5: It took me by surprise when I when I came
- 34:19Speaker 5: up with it, and I was I was shocked. I
- 34:23Speaker 5: was actually shocked. And I said, yeah, this is it,
- 34:25Speaker 5: this is this is what I need for this thing.
- 34:29Speaker 5: And that's why I just, right now i'm calling a
- 34:31Speaker 5: thing just Thing two. It's not I can't take Book two.
- 34:35Speaker 5: I gotta say thing too, because I was really surprised
- 34:38Speaker 5: and shocked with it, and I'm really proud of it,
- 34:41Speaker 5: and I'm really proud of the way.
- 34:42Speaker 3: That it's going.
- 34:44Speaker 5: So I'm just waiting to see more reviews of how
- 34:47Speaker 5: people's accepting Book one. I know they're gonna love Book three,
- 34:52Speaker 5: but I think they're going to be over the top
- 34:54Speaker 5: with Thing two. So it's a thing right now, and
- 35:00Speaker 5: I'm just I'm just so in love with it that
- 35:02Speaker 5: I'm bursting with it. And I'm just I don't think
- 35:05Speaker 5: it's gonna take another five years to do it. I'm
- 35:08Speaker 5: still in therapy behind it, and I know this thing too,
- 35:12Speaker 5: I'm definitely gonna have to be in therapy for it.
- 35:14Speaker 5: So I'm looking forward to it. People ask why do
- 35:18Speaker 5: you put yourself through it? Because I want to give
- 35:20Speaker 5: this to you.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I don't even know what to say. I mean, it's like,
- 35:32Speaker 2: you know, broke a leg trying to get you this
- 35:34Speaker 2: ice cream.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Cooe Wow, you have somebody that's saying an embodies to intelligence, seduction,
- 35:44Speaker 5: and the ability to lead in morally gray spaces, much
- 35:48Speaker 5: like China. Yes, so this person must have read the
- 35:51Speaker 5: book and they understand where I'm going, So they may
- 35:55Speaker 5: even know after they've read the book where I'm going
- 35:58Speaker 5: with it.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Man, Okay, I don't go to work till eleven forty
- 36:07Speaker 2: five tomorrow.
- 36:08Speaker 3: It's all good. I'm supposed to go to my daughter's
- 36:10Speaker 3: school for outreach and.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Then I work tomorrow night. So hey, it's it's all good, y'all.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Reading the book for me is just like TV.
- 36:20Speaker 3: So I think I'm.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Gonna be out tonight. I don't know if I wanted
- 36:24Speaker 2: to do now. I hope I learn how to put
- 36:26Speaker 2: my screen on my TV, so I don't know if
- 36:29Speaker 2: I want to look at her on.
- 36:29Speaker 3: My TV, my phone, on my kindle.
- 36:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna let you all decide tell me which one
- 36:34Speaker 2: I need to look at it on. I'm thinking the
- 36:37Speaker 2: TV because I'm gonna need to make sure I read
- 36:40Speaker 2: every word that off the Black Diamond is placed in
- 36:43Speaker 2: this book. She worked hard on it, and I need
- 36:46Speaker 2: to make sure I catch every single word. So I
- 36:54Speaker 2: know you got some events coming up. How about you
- 36:57Speaker 2: tell us about those events to follow.
- 37:01Speaker 3: You on social media? Howbout you give us the run down.
- 37:08Speaker 5: Well, in June, I'm going to be celebrating Juneteenth and
- 37:11Speaker 5: I'm going to Georgia for that, and I'm really excited
- 37:15Speaker 5: about it because this is the first time that I've
- 37:17Speaker 5: ever celebrated it in a way that they're going to
- 37:19Speaker 5: celebrate it, So I'm really excited about that. In August,
- 37:23Speaker 5: I'm heading up Top where people say up Top, that's
- 37:25Speaker 5: New York. They're having an event up there and I'm
- 37:29Speaker 5: gonna be very happy to be a part of that.
- 37:31Speaker 5: In November, I will be in Chicago, so I'm excited
- 37:36Speaker 5: about that as well. And I jumped up into next year.
- 37:42Speaker 5: We're doing a conference and we're doing a retreat and
- 37:48Speaker 5: what follows the Habitual Live, which is our workbook. It's
- 37:53Speaker 5: called I can't even think of the name of the book.
- 38:00Speaker 5: I'm drawing a blank of over my work, my own workbook.
- 38:03Speaker 5: We just developed it. Both of them came out this year.
- 38:06Speaker 5: It followed the Habitual Lie and it's I can't believe
- 38:13Speaker 5: them joining a blank. It's in the completely drawn a
- 38:17Speaker 5: blank because it was right corracks in the surface, strengths
- 38:20Speaker 5: in the core not easily broken. So we have a
- 38:23Speaker 5: panel that comes on the third Friday every month on
- 38:27Speaker 5: Basic Black after Dark. And the panel discussed a lot
- 38:31Speaker 5: of mental health concerned, a lot of trauma.
- 38:35Speaker 3: A lot of.
- 38:38Speaker 5: Thought provoking responses in the panelists, Oh my god, that
- 38:44Speaker 5: were so wonderful. They're doing the work in the work book.
- 38:47Speaker 5: We have people following us doing the work in the workbook.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Someone said that they didn't even think they would be
- 38:52Speaker 5: doing it, but they're doing the work and they're enjoying it.
- 38:54Speaker 5: I'm even doing the work in my own workbook and
- 38:58Speaker 5: I'm looking at it and it's just taking me the
- 39:00Speaker 5: places that I didn't even think that I would go.
- 39:02Speaker 5: And it's my own workbook. And that's a book that
- 39:04Speaker 5: I can actually say that I've written that I actually
- 39:08Speaker 5: have to keep going through because of this panel. And
- 39:11Speaker 5: this panel is put together mostly by doctor Carolyn Stevens.
- 39:18Speaker 3: She is also the consultant.
- 39:21Speaker 5: She is on the panel, and she's working with our
- 39:24Speaker 5: viewers and our listeners who are calling in and if
- 39:27Speaker 5: they have concerns, and she's the person and she's also
- 39:31Speaker 5: gotten me through the habitual Liar as well, because this
- 39:34Speaker 5: is a rewrite as a matter of fact, the Habitual Liar.
- 39:37Speaker 5: So she's working with me with that, and we're doing
- 39:40Speaker 5: a conference next year and we're also doing a retreat
- 39:44Speaker 5: and it's going to be based on China as well
- 39:46Speaker 5: as cracks in the surface, strengths in the core, not
- 39:49Speaker 5: easily broken, because people are not easily broken. We do
- 39:52Speaker 5: have cracks and we do have strengths in our core,
- 39:57Speaker 5: but you're not broken. We're doing this confidence in this
- 40:02Speaker 5: retreat and we're going to be in Chicago as well,
- 40:05Speaker 5: and we're filming the commercial there in Chicago with the panelists.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Who's going to be.
- 40:10Speaker 5: A part of the commercial, So I'm very excited about that.
- 40:13Speaker 5: So we're just working on a lot of projects and
- 40:16Speaker 5: a lot of different things surrounding this book, both books,
- 40:20Speaker 5: the Workbook as well as The Habitual Liar. And there's
- 40:23Speaker 5: no mistake in the word habitual lie. The way it
- 40:27Speaker 5: is spelled, there's no mistaken. So people say, oh, you
- 40:29Speaker 5: made a mistake, there's no mistake in that, and there's
- 40:31Speaker 5: no mistaking anything that's in that book. So everything that
- 40:35Speaker 5: I said was intentional. The title was intentional, and I'm
- 40:39Speaker 5: quite sure that some people have friends that they may
- 40:42Speaker 5: consider to be that word.
- 40:44Speaker 3: So I'm really happy about where I'm at with it.
- 40:48Speaker 5: And now we have the habitual Liar candle, So the
- 40:51Speaker 5: candle is is out and that's they.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Can get the candle as well.
- 40:56Speaker 5: And I have something else that's coming along with it
- 40:58Speaker 5: with the candle in the book, so I'm not going
- 41:01Speaker 5: to disclose that right now. It's gonna well, we're just
- 41:03Speaker 5: about ready to release that. So it's a lot of
- 41:06Speaker 5: things going on with China and surrounding this book. And
- 41:09Speaker 5: I'm really proud of her, and I'm talking about her
- 41:12Speaker 5: as if well, I won't say that, but.
- 41:17Speaker 3: There's a lot of realness with this book and I'm
- 41:19Speaker 3: just really.
- 41:20Speaker 7: He Now, I gotta go get the candle. I gotta
- 41:24Speaker 7: go get the work book, and you.
- 41:31Speaker 5: Can join us Friday, because it's this Friday. We're gonna
- 41:35Speaker 5: be there and we're gonna be discussing. We're on session too,
- 41:40Speaker 5: so we're gonna be doing it for six months. So
- 41:43Speaker 5: it's session two. They've been doing the work and we
- 41:46Speaker 5: discussed the work and a lot of it. A lot
- 41:49Speaker 5: of things come out in this and I can't be
- 41:53Speaker 5: more proud of each and every one of the individuals
- 41:56Speaker 5: that's part of this panel, and it brings so much
- 42:01Speaker 5: to it and I'm just sitting there saying, oh my gosh,
- 42:05Speaker 5: it to.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Take the truth.
- 42:06Speaker 5: This panel, along with what I've been experienced, has changed
- 42:11Speaker 5: a lot of direction for me, and I'm just just
- 42:15Speaker 5: in a space, in a different headspace with it, and
- 42:17Speaker 5: I'm just really happy, and i just haven't been this
- 42:21Speaker 5: happening a long time, so I just I'm just grinning
- 42:24Speaker 5: from what people say, ear ear with this whole this journey,
- 42:29Speaker 5: and I'm just loving it and I'm just putting putting
- 42:33Speaker 5: everything that I have into it. So and people can
- 42:37Speaker 5: catch me on Facebook under author of Black Diamond, Black
- 42:40Speaker 5: is spelled b l a q u E. You can
- 42:43Speaker 5: catch me on Instagram. Well, I guess I can take
- 42:47Speaker 5: my daughter on Instagram because I barely know how to
- 42:49Speaker 5: use it. I post things every once in the moon,
- 42:51Speaker 5: but I'm a Facebook. On my website, it has to
- 42:55Speaker 5: be done over. It's under construction so because there's a
- 42:59Speaker 5: lot going on, so we have to do that over.
- 43:02Speaker 5: So you may still see the old one up and
- 43:03Speaker 5: with some things that's being added to it. But we're
- 43:05Speaker 5: still working on that. Link tree. I don't even know
- 43:10Speaker 5: what my my link is for that, but I'm quite
- 43:15Speaker 5: sure it has Black Diamond in there somewhere, and Twitter
- 43:20Speaker 5: as well. I think it's Black Underscore Diamond. So that
- 43:26Speaker 5: that's how you can catch me what I'm usually on Facebook,
- 43:28Speaker 5: or you can email me under Basic Black Essentials at
- 43:33Speaker 5: gmail dot com and black again.
- 43:35Speaker 3: It's like my name b l a q u E.
- 43:39Speaker 3: So those are ways that people can catch me.
- 43:40Speaker 2: On YouTube also the crew, and that's why that's how

- 45:07Speaker 3: Or something holiday.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's a lot of fun when we all
- 45:12Speaker 5: get together, because I think we're at our best at
- 45:16Speaker 5: that point because we are in our regular ourselves. We're
- 45:20Speaker 5: not a podcast, we're not mommy. We're just sitting and
- 45:24Speaker 5: just having fun with people who are who've been following
- 45:27Speaker 5: us for the year or the years, and just laying
- 45:31Speaker 5: it out. So I enjoy it, and I've been enjoying everybody.
