Speaker A: Hey guys, it's Jill. I wanted to give you a heads up on the content about today's episode. It is very sensitive for listening, so please take care while you listen. Refer to the show notes. There is discussions of rape and murder, so please take care while you listen.
• 0:29
Speaker B: On this episode of Common Mystics, we discuss the tragic murder of a young mother in the early 2000s. I'm Jennifer James.
• 0:40
  Speaker A: I'm Jill Stanley.
• 0:42
Speaker B: We're psychics, we're sisters. We are common mystics. We find extraordinary stories in ordinary places. And this story takes us to Victorville, California.
• 0:54
Speaker A: Yes. Before we start, as we usually do, I just want to say that this is a more recent story and because of that, Jen and I, to protect the family that is still being affected by this tragedy today, we are changing the names of the characters of the story or the heroes of the story. And we are not going to use any visuals because we don't want any reserve reverse googling. If I can speak. So I just want to give you a heads up. This is a more recent story but it's clear by our hits that we are meant to tell it. We also reached out to the family. We did not get a response. So just know that as we go through the content on today's show. Hi, Jen.
• 1:42
  Speaker B: Hi.
• 1:43
Speaker A: We were leaving beach, where we stayed. Where we stayed. And we filmed a short video in the parking lot of a Best Buy. Do you remember the content of that said video?
• 1:58
Speaker B: I believe we posted it on our socials.
• 2:03
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 2:04
Speaker B: And I do recall, I do recall the unfortunate situation that had occurred.
• 2:10
Speaker A: Do you. Do you want to.
• 2:12
  Speaker B: I really don't. I'm.
• 2:13
Speaker A: I think. I think we should. I think we should talk about it again because it is iconic at this point. So, yes, please send me back to the day on Venice beach when we were walking together, when we were out for a stroll.
• 2:32
Speaker B: So we were staying on Venice beach. And I have to say, I really liked Venice Beach.
• 2:37
Speaker A: I liked it too.
• 2:38
Speaker B: I liked it a lot. A lot of the people that reached out to us upon hearing we were staying at Venice beach, they were not very complimentary.
• 2:48
Speaker A: I personally really dug the neighborhood vibe. Tell me, why friends? Well, okay, so every morning to get Jennifer out of bed and all perky, I would have to walk to the Starbucks down the way, which was very nice. And, and I made friends along the way. There was gentlemen drinking coffee at a little diner every morning, reading the paper. It was really cute. A group of old men. There was a very sweet transient that was at the end of the alley that Was very kind. And we, as I was walking past his house, he was very sweet. Like, we made eye contact, we smiled every morning. So, yeah, I made a lot of friends.
• 3:28
Speaker B: Yeah, we felt at home there. It wasn't too posh for us and it wasn't.
• 3:33
Speaker A: It wasn't fancy. It wasn't too grimy. It was the perfect.
• 3:39
Speaker B: It was. It was appropriately grimy. I felt comfortable with the grime factor. But I think there are people there from all walks of life, from all social strata. And on this particular day, Jill, we were walking along Venice beach just to. Just to experience it. Just to go for a walk on the boardwalk. Because we weren't staying on the boardwalk. We were staying a little south of the boardwalk, I believe.
• 4:05
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 4:07
Speaker B: And so we walked north along the path to. To the boardwalk. And Jill, do you know the opening of Three's Company?
• 4:15
Speaker A: Yes. You told me this. Come and knock on my door.
• 4:20
Speaker B: Yeah, that. You know that part where John Ritter.
• 4:23
  Speaker A: Jack.
• 4:23
Speaker B: Jack. Jack Ritter. No, Jack. John Ritter.
• 4:26
Speaker A: John. It's John. But his character's Jack in the.
• 4:29
Speaker B: Yeah, in the show, he's riding the bicycle along the beach path. That was Venice Beach.
• 4:35
Speaker A: I know, you told me.
• 4:36
  Speaker B: I know, but I didn't tell the world, did I?
• 4:38
Speaker A: You did not tell the world until just now. Now the world knows.
• 4:42
Speaker B: Anyway, so you and I were walking along Venice beach and we had come off of a recent conversation about needing to do more video. Do you remember this?
• 4:54
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 4:54
Speaker B: Like this hence, hence this. Hence you and us being here together today. Anyway, so we were talking about video and video editing and how much time that takes. And so I thought it was quite fortuitous when we were walking along the boardwalk at Venice beach and there was a gentleman with a setup, a cardboard sign, to be specific, that, I don't know, paint, maybe. Paint.
• 5:26
Speaker A: Magic Marker. Magic marker. Black, thick Magic marker.
• 5:30
Speaker B: It said. It said, will edit yo apps. Okay. And is that what it said? That's what I thought it said. It was not a well done sign. And so I looked at it and I remember saying to you, Jill, look at, look at this man here. He's obviously hard up, right? Because it looked like he was set up there like for. For a long period. Right. It looked like his life belongings at the moment were with him. And I thought, oh, my gosh, he does editing. Should we ask him if he will edit out? He says he does apps. He'll edit our apps. Could we ask him perhaps if he
• 6:18
Speaker A: had to restrain you from approaching the. The fine. I'm sure he was a fine Gentleman. Because his sign actually said.
• 6:31
Speaker B: That's not what it said.
• 6:34
Speaker A: No, that's what it says.
• 6:35
Speaker B: What did it say, Jill? What did it say? It's.
• 6:38
Speaker A: It said, said will eat yo ass.
• 6:42
  Speaker B: Yes.
• 6:43
Speaker A: For dollar signs. Yes.
• 6:45
Speaker B: The. The S's and ass were dollar signs. So that's. Can you see why I thought those were like.
• 6:51
  Speaker A: No, no, I.
• 6:53
Speaker B: Because of the lines. Anyway.
• 6:55
Speaker A: Okay. And you know what else I find really amusing about this is that you. You actually believed the man who was living on Venice beach would have the means to get to a computer, to get online.
• 7:16
Speaker B: You might have had a phone. You do all your editing on your phone and to edit our videos.
• 7:21
Speaker A: And you were like, this seems like a good idea.
• 7:24
Speaker B: Anyway. Yeah, that's not what the sign said. And then didn't. I feel foolish. But I never did have a conversation with him, luckily.
• 7:31
Speaker A: Think I should have let you. I should have let you. I should have.
• 7:35
Speaker B: You should have let me. And then recorded it. That would have been humiliating.
• 7:39
  Speaker A: Why didn't I let you?
• 7:41
Speaker B: Anyway, so we left. We left Venice beach and we were exploring the area as we do you know what we do? You know what we do?
• 7:49
Speaker A: And what do we do, Jennifer?
• 7:51
Speaker B: We have an intention, which is to find verifiable stories previously unknown to us that allow us to give voice to the voiceless. That's what we do. We reach out to the spirits. We want to tell people stories. We want to tell people stories, especially if their stories are underreported, misunderstood, etc. That's what we do.
• 8:08
Speaker A: So we were headed northeast and we decided we were going to go to Victorville.
• 8:16
Speaker B: We were pulled to Victorville. What were you getting in the car? Psychically?
• 8:20
Speaker A: I was getting a mean ass motherfucker. Like someone who was just ruthless, just to be ruthless, cruel. What were you getting? Oh, I was also getting a name that started with the letter R. Okay. That was associated with our story.
• 8:43
Speaker B: I was getting assault and murder. And I was tuned into every mall that we drove to.
• 8:53
Speaker A: Yes. And that was one of the highlights. We never. We drive past so many malls and we're never like, oh, shopping center, shopping center. But in this day, not only were we talking shopping centers, but you are also noting it in the notes.
• 9:07
Speaker B: Yeah, that's unusual. I don't usually write down the stores that we go past, but I wrote down Macy's mall, which was, in hindsight, very telling. But I didn't know why I did that. I was just pulled. My attention was pulled there. And so I wrote it down. Yeah. And tell me about sp. Spanish Names.
• 9:26
Speaker A: You and I were both having a conversation about, like a name that sounded Spanish, an ethnic name from. From the Spanish language. But it felt like a breadcrumb. But it was like we wanted to say it, but we. We don't speak and we're like. You know what I mean?
• 9:42
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. What about Route 66?
• 9:45
Speaker A: Dude, we were obsessed with Route 66. We were obsessed with finding it and still staying on it. And it turns out, because we're fools, we were on it the whole time, but we didn't know it.
• 9:57
Speaker B: It's not well marked.
• 9:59
Speaker A: No, not in some places. Not in the newer parts.
• 10:02
Speaker B: Yeah. I was just talking to my friend Jenny, Jenny B. About this, and let's say that it's very. Because of the way Route 66 from Chicago to LA has been developed over the years, it's really hard to stay on it because certain parts are now stretches of different routes and streets.
• 10:22
Speaker A: That's exactly what happened to us.
• 10:24
Speaker B: Yeah. And then if you want to actually take it, you can't a lot of times because the original route is no longer in use. But also you have to pay online. You can find a map of like, how to, like, ride the most authentic route possible. But you've got to pay for a special map. They don't just publish it. Yeah.
• 10:43
  Speaker A: Oh, wow.
• 10:43
Speaker B: So anyway, we found out that we had been riding on Route 66, driving on Route 66.
• 10:50
Speaker A: We also then got off at. And help me with the name of this town.
• 10:54
  Speaker B: Hesperia.
• 10:56
Speaker A: Yes. And we were looking around and we needed to get gas. And again, what did you. What did you mark down?
• 11:02
  Speaker B: Another mall.
• 11:04
  Speaker A: Another mall.
• 11:05
Speaker B: I was obsessed with malls. Not only that, but the feeling of a body dump. I got the feeling of a body dump.
• 11:15
Speaker A: So a secondary crime scene where someone would discard of a body. So we had some research to do.
• 11:24
Speaker B: You took the lead on this?
• 11:27
Speaker A: Yeah. And I found in the local paper the unfortunate murder of a young mother named Sarah, who we're calling Sarah.
• 11:38
  Speaker B: Right.
• 11:39
Speaker A: And the case remained unsolved.
• 11:43
Speaker B: Now, you knew this was our story, you said.
• 11:46
Speaker A: Yes, I had a fight for this
• 11:48
Speaker B: because it's very recent and I do not like to do recent stories.
• 11:54
Speaker A: It's very uncomfortable. Literally. This story is still impacting the lives
• 11:59
Speaker B: of the people are still mourning. People are still mourning this loss. That's what makes me feel so uncomfortable. We weren't able to talk to the family about it anyway. So should we talk about Sarah and who she was?
• 12:11
Speaker A: Yes, I want to talk about Sarah
• 12:13
Speaker B: and what happened to Sarah. Okay. So Sarah was born in 1968 in Royal Oak, Michigan.
• 12:22
Speaker A: Hello, Royal Oak. Yes, you is.
• 12:25
Speaker B: In 1992, she got married. So she was a married woman. 1992. 68. 78. 88. So she was about 24 when she got married. Is that right? Yeah. Okay, That's a respectable age.
• 12:41
Speaker A: Yeah. That's when you got married?
• 12:42
  Speaker B: No, I was 25. I was 25. You.
• 12:45
Speaker A: Oh, you old when you got married. Just kidding.
• 12:47
  Speaker B: Really? How old?
• 12:49
Speaker A: I was 31. I was all ancient. I was like marcane down the aisle.
• 12:55
Speaker B: I remember being 25 and thinking that I was getting married late and that people in their 30s who got married were so old. Like, I remember that was an actual thought that I had.
• 13:06
Speaker A: And now I'm in your brain.
• 13:08
Speaker B: Y' all are babies. If you're not 40, y' all are babies. And even if you're, like, in the baby end of 40, you're still babies.
• 13:14
Speaker A: And you know what else? I want to say this. If you're 40 and you're not married, don't. Don't. Ain't no reason.
• 13:24
  Speaker B: You don't need.
• 13:26
Speaker A: You don't need that drama. You don't need to be hitched. Trust. Trust an old psychic trust.
• 13:38
Speaker B: All right. Okay. Moving on. So she was married, and she had a stepson, and then she and her husband had a little boy as well, of their own.
• 13:49
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 13:50
Speaker B: So two children. And at the time of our incident, the family was living in Adelanto. I'm probably saying that wrong. Don't come for me. Adelanto, California.
• 14:02
  Speaker A: Get it?
• 14:03
Speaker B: Okay, shut up. And she was a nursing student?
• 14:10
Speaker A: Yeah. She was recently accepted at the Victor Valley Community College as a nuisance. A nursing student?
• 14:17
Speaker B: Yeah. So she was a nursing student. So exciting. And she was actually going to start in the fall of 2001.
• 14:25
Speaker A: Yes. But in the meantime.
• 14:27
Speaker B: In the meantime, she was working at the local mall, the Victor Valley Mall in Victorville.
• 14:36
Speaker A: At a department store.
• 14:38
Speaker B: I used to work at a department store in a mall.
• 14:40
Speaker A: You did. You were the clinique girl. Yeah, I did, actually.
• 14:44
Speaker B: Where did you work?
• 14:45
Speaker A: Macy's. Did you forget?
• 14:47
  Speaker B: Yeah, I did. I did.
• 14:48
  Speaker A: Literally forgot.
• 14:49
  Speaker B: You're like, apt.
• 14:50
Speaker A: You're like. You're like. I was working at a department store. Yes, I was. You were flexing, like. Ah. Yeah, I was.
• 14:57
Speaker B: Yeah. What department did you work in? Clothing, Home goods. Home goods.
• 15:02
  Speaker A: Mm.
• 15:03
  Speaker B: I was cosmetics.
• 15:05
Speaker A: Yes, you were the clinique girl.
• 15:06
  Speaker B: I was a clinique girl.
• 15:07
Speaker A: But you used Lancome Slut.
• 15:10
Speaker B: Shh. You're not supposed to say that. I said when I worked Clinique, I only used Clinique. Anyway. Anyway, so she worked at a store called Mervyn's Department store. Never heard of it.
• 15:26
Speaker A: Yeah, it's like. It's like a Kohl's is my understanding. Or like a Sears of the time.
• 15:33
Speaker B: Okay. Okay. So she's working in a department store in Victorville, Mervyn's, and there is a terrible tragedy.
• 15:43
  Speaker A: Right.
• 15:44
Speaker B: Okay. It was April.
• 15:46
  Speaker A: Take me. Yep.
• 15:47
  Speaker B: Take.
• 15:47
  Speaker A: Take me there.
• 15:49
Speaker B: It was April 13, 2001, and Sarah was at first spending time with her sons, and then in the evening, she went to work at Mervyn's department store.
• 16:02
Speaker A: In the Victor Valley Mall.
• 16:04
Speaker B: In the Victor Valley Mall.
• 16:05
Speaker A: And we already discussed what Mervyn's was.
• 16:08
  Speaker B: Right, Like a Kohl's. Whatever.
• 16:10
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 16:10
Speaker B: Okay. So around 8:30pm so it's getting dark. It's an hour before sunset. It was Sarah's break. Now, I have to say there are conflicting. There's conflicting information about why she left the store. Some of the sources say that she had left for a break. Some of the sources say she left because it was the end of her shift. But in any event, she told her co workers she was leaving and she left and she went into the parking lot. And some reports say that she had been using her cell phone.
• 16:52
Speaker A: You know, that was a Nokia.
• 16:54
Speaker B: You know, I never had a Nokia. Are those flip phones?
• 16:59
Speaker A: No, this is before flip phones.
• 17:01
Speaker B: Oh, little fat ones.
• 17:02
  Speaker A: Yes, they were.
• 17:03
Speaker B: They look like bricks.
• 17:04
Speaker A: Yes. With a little baby nugget of a. Of a. Of a antenna. And then you would. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you would play the snake game on it. Yes, yes.
• 17:13
Speaker B: You think that's what she was doing, playing snake?
• 17:16
Speaker A: She had to be. I know I would be.
• 17:19
Speaker B: Unfortunately, she was never seen alive again by either her co workers or. Or her family. Later that night, her husband had expected her to come home. He did think that she was going to be late because she was planning on stopping for Easter candy after work that night. But she never returned home. And so in the early morning hours of April 14, 2001, her husband reported her missing to the local police. A day later, on April 15, 2001, her car was discovered. It was behind a Big 5 Sporting Goods store near the mall where she worked. By the way, her stepfather had found the car.
• 18:16
Speaker A: Yeah, because her family was all hands on deck looking for her, wouldn't you be? Absolutely.
• 18:22
Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. Here's the thing. Her purse was in the car. Her ID was in the car. That tells me that it. I don't know. It probably wasn't like a robbery because usually don't they, like, take the purse and then they shuffle through the purse later and dump it somewhere?
• 18:42
Speaker A: Yeah, and it also tells me that she didn't leave one willingly because you don't leave your purse if you're a woman. You don't leave your purse at a bar to go to the bathroom. No, no, you're definitely not going to leave your purse in the car.
• 18:56
Speaker B: Investigators also found by looking over the car that there had been a physical struggle. Detectives believed that the vehicle had been moved from. From its original location because Sarah normally parked near Mervyn's.
• 19:16
Speaker A: Yeah, why wouldn't she? That's where she was working.
• 19:19
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And whoever abducted her had likely repositioned the vehicle in an effort to delay discovery or mislead investigators. So for the next several days, detectives searched for Sarah and they also interviewed her co workers, her family members, and anyone that they thought might have crossed paths with her. And the investigation expanded throughout the Victor Valley area as authorities tried to determine whether she had been targeted by someone she knew or if it had been a stranger who had assaulted and abducted.
• 20:08
Speaker A: I think they always start with the people you knew and then kind of.
• 20:13
Speaker B: Yeah. So despite the public location of her disappearance, there were no witnesses. At least no witnesses came forward to say anything at all. And then she herself was found the following day. On April 16, 2001, Sarah's body was discovered in a remote desert area near the intersection of Mariposa Road and Ranchero street and Hesperia. It was isolated and it was known as an illegal dumping area.
• 20:57
  Speaker A: That poor woman.
• 21:00
Speaker B: Investigators determined that she had been kidnapped, she had been assaulted sexually, and she had died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Poor Sarah.
• 21:24
Speaker A: I'm glad you put up a fight.
• 21:26
Speaker B: True. That it was just three days after her disappearance that she was found.
• 21:32
Speaker A: Well, that's something. You know what I mean?
• 21:35
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 21:35
Speaker A: I mean, it sucks, but at least you like, you had a knowing, like there's a finality to it.
• 21:41
Speaker B: Yeah. Apparently she was found because there was a man that was looking for treasure in this area that people just dumped and. And he found her. I mean, good thing he was going through the trash there looking for treasure, you know, that's something I would do. I love going through other people's shit anyway, so. I mean, Victorville did. It had a lot of crime. I think you did some research on this. It. It had a fair amount of crime. Well, I think that. What city doesn't? But what city doesn't.
• 22:15
Speaker A: I Think that's a fair question though, you know what I mean? Like, there are different areas of Chicago that if someone was kidnapped and, and brutally assaulted and murdered, I would be like, well, okay, you know what I mean? Why were you in that area?
• 22:29
Speaker B: Like. Well, I mean, Victorville back in 2001, where when our. Our crime occurred, it did have crime involving property crime, auto theft, gang violence, drug activity. I mean again, your basics, right? In any city, any suburb. Any. Yeah, yeah, some more than others. But yeah, it. It had a higher crime rate than Hesperia Victorville did. But anyway, today Victorville's crime rate is a little higher than some of other California communities. I mean, take it or leave it.
• 23:06
Speaker A: You know, it didn't seem unsavory when we were there. I don't remember feeling scared when we were there.
• 23:13
Speaker B: I don't either. That's a good point. Yeah, but we also felt at home on Venice Beach.
• 23:19
Speaker A: True. With the ass eating vagrant and the
• 23:22
Speaker B: transients who, you know. Very kind. Good morning to you.
• 23:27
Speaker A: Every morning. Every morning, yes.
• 23:31
Speaker B: So, shall we talk about the investigation?
• 23:33
Speaker A: I think we should.
• 23:34
Speaker B: Detectives spent months pursuing leads and collecting evidence from the crime scene, the vehicle, investigating her personal effects and information about her. And there were numerous interviews that were conducted. Numerous people of interest were examined. And despite all their efforts, they were unable to produce a single viable suspect. As months turned into years, I cannot. The trail grew cold.
• 24:08
Speaker A: That's agonizing. See now that's agonizing.
• 24:12
Speaker B: And Sarah's murder joined the ranks of Southern California's unsolved cases. That is agonizing.
• 24:21
Speaker A: Yeah. Poor Sarah and her family.
• 24:24
Speaker B: Yeah. In. Now, In May of 2001, the Daily Press out of Victorville, California were reporting rumors of a serial murderer who was on the loose. Now you did some research on this. Did you find any evidence that there was a serial murder murderer?
• 24:43
  Speaker A: Absolutely.
• 24:44
Speaker B: Not in the area in the time?
• 24:46
Speaker A: No, absolutely not. And I think it. I think that this crime was so scary and so horrific that people were on edge and would almost want it to be a serial killer. Like someone. Some monster out there than just someone in their community. That's what my thoughts are on it. What do you think?
• 25:07
Speaker B: I think you're right. I think the. You can accept that there's an evil person more than you want to accept. It could just be anybody, you know, that could do this. But maybe the people you know are evil serial killers. But anyway, they also reported other things about Sarah. And one of the things that they reported was that she had left work early that night. And that she had received several phone calls on her phone before she left.
• 25:43
Speaker A: Yeah. The police told the paper that. And to, like, simmer down the serial killer talk.
• 25:50
Speaker B: Okay. Oh, so she insinuating that she had known the person or maybe was going to meet the person who then would be her killer.
• 25:59
Speaker A: It seems like that to me, and it kind of pissed me off.
• 26:03
  Speaker B: Because.
• 26:04
Speaker A: Because it's in. It's victim shaming, in a way.
• 26:06
Speaker B: Being, like, blaming. Yeah. Blaming the victim.
• 26:09
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 26:10
  Speaker B: In a way.
• 26:11
Speaker A: She was in. She was involved with something. She left knowing the person, blah, blah, blah. You know what I mean? It just seems. It's. It's just a shitty thing to do instead of being like, no, there's no serial killer, but just to kind of like.
• 26:24
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 26:25
Speaker A: To just bring shame upon her name like that.
• 26:27
Speaker B: Right. The sheriff official also declared that investigators did not believe it was random. Again, trying to tamper down the whole serial killer randomness of this. And she knew her murderer potentially.
• 26:43
  Speaker A: Exactly.
• 26:44
Speaker B: Right. Okay. Okay. So let's fast forward to November of 2003.
• 26:52
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 26:52
Speaker B: Okay. About a year and a half.
• 26:54
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 26:54
Speaker B: About a year and a half. Right. Two and a half. I don't know.
• 26:59
Speaker A: Two years. Two years.
• 27:00
Speaker B: Okay. From the time of her murder. The police were asking for tips.
• 27:04
  Speaker A: Still.
• 27:05
Speaker B: Don't you hate when the police ask for tips?
• 27:07
Speaker A: I know. It's like, didn't we have someone in authority that does, I don't know, detective work? They always ask for tips here in Southwest Michigan. This. They're always asking for tips. If anyone knows anything, call the Silent observer or the kdp. Kdp.
• 27:26
  Speaker B: What's the kdp?
• 27:28
Speaker A: Or kpd. Kpd. What's the. Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo Police Department. Okay. Shop. That's my dyslexia on full display. It really makes me mad.
• 27:40
Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. And they were also publishing that police still weren't sure if Sarah was abducted or willingly went with her assailant.
• 27:52
Speaker A: Now, that's messed up, because in 2001, when they found their car, they said that there was evidence of a struggle. So why two years later, are they implying that.
• 28:01
Speaker B: That she went willingly and left her purse behind? Yeah. Yeah, that. That. That is effed up. The investigation determined that Sarah was shot, and detectives learned she was kidnapped and essayed sexually assaulted before her death. A suspect was not identified, and the case went cold until 2025. Shut up. It's more than 20 years later, in 2025. 5. Sarah's case was taken up again by the Cold Case unit of the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.
• 28:46
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 28:48
Speaker B: And they finally identified a culprit whose first name we're going to call with an R. Okay, that's important.
• 28:59
  Speaker A: That is important.
• 29:00
Speaker B: And has a very Mexican sounding last name.
• 29:03
  Speaker A: Very true.
• 29:04
Speaker B: Very Mexican sounding last name. And I mean, we don't know much about this individual.
• 29:10
Speaker A: No. But I was able to research some stuff online. So this is the deets that I got. He was born in 1974.
• 29:19
Speaker B: Okay, so he was older than Sarah.
• 29:22
  Speaker A: Younger,
• 29:24
Speaker B: you're right. Younger than Sarah.
• 29:26
Speaker A: Younger than Sarah. He looks like he lives in, what's
• 29:30
Speaker B: the name of it? Hesperia.
• 29:32
Speaker A: For most of his life.
• 29:33
Speaker B: He lived. Yeah, yeah.
• 29:35
Speaker A: Yep. At the time of his arrest, he was 51. He was 62 and weighed 320 pounds. Now I have to say that our Sarah, our victim was a more petite individual.
• 29:54
Speaker B: Even if you're not a petite woman. £320. There's no way, I mean, you and I talk about how we're big boned, but there's no way. If a six two man, 320 pounds wanted to subdue us, he could probably subdue both of us at the same time.
• 30:13
Speaker A: Been knocking our heads together and getting
• 30:16
Speaker B: on top of us.
• 30:17
  Speaker A: Ew.
• 30:19
  Speaker B: £320. That's a lot of pounds.
• 30:22
Speaker A: I would, the amount of struggle that I would put up on that.
• 30:29
Speaker B: So he is currently facing charges.
• 30:33
Speaker A: He was arrested. He was arrested for her murder and rape and assault. He was arrested, yes. He was just in the early part of January of 2026. He was arrested, Jennifer. And the charges he faced was
• 30:53
Speaker B: kids snapping. That's what it says, Joe.
• 31:00
Speaker A: You really took my thunder away, you know that?
• 31:03
Speaker B: It wasn't kid snapping. That's what it says. Kidnapping, rape, murder and kidnapping for ransom. His court date is coming up, so this is kind of a short episode because we don't have an ending. He is court date is coming up this September, September 18th of 2026 to
• 31:25
Speaker A: face the charges of murder for poor Sarah.
• 31:32
Speaker B: And he's currently being held?
• 31:34
Speaker A: Yes, he's being held. Where is he being held, Jennifer?
• 31:36
Speaker B: San Bernardino County, High Desert Jail and Atalanto, California.
• 31:41
Speaker A: Doesn't look present pleasant. No, it doesn't.
• 31:46
Speaker B: So intuitively, Jill, do you think Sarah knew this guy? Don't you think she knew her killer? Let's start there.
• 31:54
Speaker A: I think she either was acquainted with him or thought she may have known him. Does that make sense? Have you ever met someone again? You're like, oh, I thought you were, you know, whatever, whatever. You know what I'm saying?
• 32:10
Speaker B: I think if you work in a store, you See a lot of people.
• 32:14
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 32:16
Speaker B: Do you know what I mean?
• 32:17
Speaker A: I know exactly what you mean.
• 32:18
Speaker B: And I think she knew of him. I think she probably recognized him as someone that she had seen before. I don't think there are friends. I don't think she was talking to him. She wasn't on the phone with him. I mean, that's just intuitively. I mean, I suppose we're gonna see what comes.
• 32:34
Speaker A: We're gonna find out. We're gonna find this case.
• 32:36
Speaker B: Yeah, we are. This September. But I really don't think that, that she had a relationship with him or knew him. Well, do you think this is the guy? I was gonna ask you.
• 32:48
Speaker A: I was gonna ask, I was gonna ask you. I'm gonna ask you that out of my head.
• 32:51
Speaker B: Okay, I do, I do too.
• 32:55
  Speaker A: I do, I do think it's him.
• 32:57
Speaker B: Well, I mean, our, you were, got our name. We got Mexican last name. And I mean g. Why, so why do you think Susan's. Why do you think Sarah's coming through?
• 33:09
Speaker A: I want you to know that's not her name.
• 33:11
Speaker B: So I know yourself in the face.
• 33:14
Speaker A: You're just using a different name.
• 33:16
Speaker B: Just randomly using s. Randomly S. Yes, exactly.
• 33:20
Speaker A: So why is Stella coming through? Is that what you're asking me?
• 33:23
Speaker B: Yes, Sally, why is Samantha so I
• 33:28
Speaker A: think she's coming through because I think this is an impact in her case and she's excited about it. I think she's coming through to let her family know that she's okay and she's excited about it and this is a good direction. I think he's gonna get convicted.
• 33:42
  Speaker B: I hope so. I do.
• 33:44
  Speaker A: I really do.
• 33:46
Speaker B: I hope so. I hope so. I, I, I'm very interested to follow this case and I'm sure we're gonna do a follow up.
• 33:53
  Speaker A: We have to.
• 33:54
Speaker B: Yeah. To, to talk about the results of
• 33:56
Speaker A: this, this trial and, and I'm gonna reach to give them our impressions.
• 34:03
Speaker B: I mean, don't harass them. If they don't wanna talk to us, they wanna talk to us.
• 34:08
Speaker A: But after we put out this episode, we may wanna share it with them. Just to be like, hey, you know, this is our impressions of it. And did you have time to look at Sarah's picture?
• 34:18
  Speaker B: No. Yes.
• 34:20
  Speaker A: You didn't look.
• 34:21
Speaker B: Yeah, I did. I've forgotten that I did. I've been really busy.
• 34:27
Speaker A: This is a psychic shit show. Okay. Okay. So you had a chance. Do you recall any impressions you may have had when you were looking at her picture?
• 34:38
  Speaker B: No.
• 34:40
  Speaker A: Okay.
• 34:40
Speaker B: You didn't ask me to read her picture. My Impressions.
• 34:43
Speaker A: Why else am I asking you to look at her picture?
• 34:46
Speaker B: You just asked me right now.
• 34:49
  Speaker A: No, I didn't.
• 34:49
Speaker B: Ask me before. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. All right, we're not going to argue about this right now. You never asked me to look at her picture and read her. Here's what I think. I. I think that this guy is the right guy. I really hope he's gonna be convicted. I think she's coming through like you said, because this is going to give her family peace.
• 35:08
Speaker A: Agreed. I think that she fought hard. I think that there was an element of surprise in this attack.
• 35:19
  Speaker B: Yes, 100%.
• 35:22
Speaker A: I feel as if she's. She was brokenhearted that she didn't make it home for Easter. That's what she. That's what she was fighting for, to get home to Easter, to get those kids candy.
• 35:32
Speaker B: Well, and her life.
• 35:34
Speaker A: But in her head, she was like, I need to get. I need to get. I need to get home to the kids and the candy, like, for, you know, and her life. But I would fight for candy. I would fight like hell. I would fight like hell for candy. I would.
• 35:48
  Speaker B: Twinkies.
• 35:49
  Speaker A: I would. Oh, I like a Twinkie. I like a good Twinkie.
• 35:53
Speaker B: They don't do Twinkies well anymore. Now they're small.
• 35:57
  Speaker A: I do.
• 35:58
Speaker B: I can smell a Twinkie, right? I loved, like, I can literally smell Twinkies right now.
• 36:04
Speaker A: I like the three dots on even the wrapper. I would.
• 36:08
  Speaker B: Yeah, you would.
• 36:09
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 36:10
Speaker B: I'm not a fan of the cupcakes. I. I think the. The frosting is waxy. It peels right off. It's just weird.
• 36:19
Speaker A: I like the vanilla ones because I'm trashy.
• 36:23
Speaker B: Anyway, so, yeah, let's go through our hits. I think they're.
• 36:27
Speaker A: They're pretty. See, I just want to say, you guys, honestly, you guys out there, we really didn't want to do this story. We don't have a conclusion to it. This. It was just because of our hits that were so right on that it was screaming at us. She needed a voice. She wants her family and the world to know that this is the guy. She's okay. She's happy about these unfolding circumstances. What?
• 36:58
Speaker B: Okay, so you were picking up on a criminal who doesn't give any fucks. That checks our name. That checks. On my. On my part, assault and murder. Also, Mal and Macy's having an M name like Mervyn's. That's interesting. The fact that we even stopped at Hesperia is crazy. Dude, that's Crazy. What?
• 37:24
Speaker A: Okay, so first keep going and then we'll talk about it.
• 37:27
Speaker B: We stopped at Hesper. How could.
• 37:29
  Speaker A: How?
• 37:30
Speaker B: Like we were at Victorville and we were in Hesperia. Like that. Both of those cities are huge in this case. Come on.
• 37:39
Speaker A: We followed the direct route that he would have taken with her in the car.
• 37:47
  Speaker B: Oh, my gosh.
• 37:49
Speaker A: And we stopped at that intersection. No, where she was.
• 37:53
Speaker B: Where she was dumped. Shut up, Shut up, shut up. Okay. I don't know why we're talking about this literally, because this is not what we do. We don't do modern crime stories that
• 38:06
Speaker A: are in verifiable stories previously unknown to us. That gives voice of the voices. We got exactly what we asked.
• 38:12
Speaker B: I know you guys.
• 38:13
Speaker A: Like, this is too. Reasons are gonna be pissing people off. We didn't say that. We didn't say that.
• 38:18
Speaker B: And I think we're going to have a new intention moving forward. And we're gonna let Spirit know we don't want modern stories.
• 38:25
  Speaker A: Jennifer. What?
• 38:27
Speaker B: It makes me very uncomfortable, Sarah. But then you come up with these hits and how can I say, well, we can't talk about this. When we followed the route from Victorville
• 38:37
Speaker A: to Heston and we were obsessed with it.
• 38:39
Speaker B: We were obsessed with that route. With that.
• 38:42
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 38:43
Speaker B: Wow. Okay. Wow. All right. So we will be following up when.
• 38:48
Speaker A: And there's not like a lot of other towns around there. We could have went east. We could have went west. We could have went. You know what I mean? But we went south and we followed the exact possible crazy that he would have taken.
• 39:00
Speaker B: All right. All right. Okay. Well, we're talking about it. You won. You won the argument.
• 39:04
  Speaker A: Here we are.
• 39:04
Speaker B: We're talking about it.
• 39:05
Speaker A: All right. There you go. Fine. Fine.
• 39:07
  Speaker B: Now What?
• 39:08
Speaker A: Court date September 18th.
• 39:11
  Speaker B: All right.
• 39:12
Speaker A: We have to be on it.
• 39:13
Speaker B: We will be on it.
• 39:14
Speaker A: We'll be on it.
• 39:15
Speaker B: We'll be on it. You'll be on it.
• 39:16
Speaker A: We'll be on it. I'm gonna. I am seriously gonna be on it.
• 39:19
Speaker B: All right. Are there any community announcements? Yes. Which are.
• 39:27
Speaker A: We got a review.
• 39:30
Speaker B: Is it a good one?
• 39:31
Speaker A: I might. Okay, See, is this. Is this a safe place to talk?
• 39:37
  Speaker B: No. Oh, man.
• 39:41
Speaker A: The one that from four days ago is like, the last should be the last.
• 39:47
Speaker B: Oh, the one that you see the review that comes up.
• 39:49
Speaker A: The last review should be 4 days ago, but it's not. It's like the first review. So you have to go through, like years of review to find this review.
• 39:57
Speaker B: I know what's going on on Apple.
• 39:59
Speaker A: Apple. Why are you Screwing with me today, bro. Do you have it?
• 40:05
  Speaker B: No.
• 40:06
Speaker A: First of all, I just want you guys to know that I sent Jennifer this review and she said to me, did you write this? This is tarot reading title from Lana is having issues.
• 40:21
Speaker B: Oh, I love that. That is so cute.
• 40:23
  Speaker A: She's so cute.
• 40:24
  Speaker B: Hi, Lana.
• 40:25
Speaker A: Hi, Alana. It was such a great reading. I had so much fun learning about the tarot as well. Jill was able to read me so well, and I had a great time.
• 40:34
Speaker B: Can you see why I thought you would have written that?
• 40:36
Speaker A: Yeah, but, like, so Jill is beautiful. Jill is the best person in the whole wide world. You should be nice to Jill as your little sister.
• 40:48
Speaker B: And you should stop making fun of
• 40:49
Speaker A: her kid snapping errors.
• 40:51
Speaker B: You know, she's dyslexic.
• 40:52
  Speaker A: That's rude.
• 40:54
Speaker B: All right. Okay. Where can people find us?

• 42:23
  Speaker B: Please.

Speaker A: Because most people that aren't on Patreon are waiting two weeks for an episode. But there are Jen and Jill shenanigans every other week on Detours at levels two and three. Two and three. There you go. Yeah.
• 42:37
  Speaker B: All right. Yeah.
• 42:38
  Speaker A: All right.

Speaker B: Okay. Love you. Bye.
• 42:40
  Speaker A: Love you.
