- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:40Light to moderate trade winds right now, with scattered showers on the windward side and in the mountains — some rain may spill onto leeward coasts. Tomorrow the pattern shifts. Winds drop and turn light and variable, which means daytime sea breezes will push most clouds and showers inland to higher elevations. Coastal areas will dry out. If you're planning beach days Wednesday through Friday, leeward spots are your best bet.
- 2:01South and west-facing shores are under a High Surf Advisory through tomorrow morning. Oʻahu's south shore is running 4.5 feet — watch for shore break and rip currents. The north shore is 4.1 feet, similar caution. Maui and Kauaʻi are smaller at 3.3 and 3.9 feet, comfortable for swimmers if you watch for occasional larger sets. The Big Island is calm at 1.7 feet.
- 2:20Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several closures: Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge replacement. Kīlauea is at advisory level. Plan accordingly if you're headed to the Big Island volcano parks.
- 2:32We just posted a guide to Hawaiʻi's art-walk scene — First Fridays in Honolulu and Wailuku, Hanapepe Art Night on Kauaʻi, and Hilo's Black & White Night. It covers what each scene is about, when they happen, and why they're worth your evening if you're looking for something outside the standard tourist loop. The full piece is on the site.
- 2:49Wednesday and Thursday look like your window for beach time before weekend trades return. Expect afternoon showers over Big Island and Maui interiors, but leeward coasts should stay mostly dry.
- 2:59If art walks sound like your thing, grab that piece. Catch you tomorrow.
