- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Bomani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:17Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. He only
- 0:19Speaker 1: gives four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are a hater.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We got a lot to get into. One of these
- 0:26Speaker 1: fools allegedly done got caught up with the gambling again.
- 0:29Speaker 1: LeBron's doing LeBron-y things, but I need to start with
- 0:35Speaker 1: A couple of the funniest things I saw this weekend,
- 0:38Speaker 1: and both of them are related to the same story.
- 0:41Speaker 1: In fact, it may be three of the funniest things. OK,
- 0:43Speaker 1: they all have to do with this Ace Bailey situation.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I understand that I've talked about Ace Bailey a great
- 0:48Speaker 1: deal on this show. I've talked about Ace Bailey as
- 0:50Speaker 1: a draft pick far more than I ever talked about
- 0:52Speaker 1: Ace Bailey as an actual factual basketball player. I get that.
- 0:57Speaker 1: But OK. I want us to walk through these steps
- 1:00Speaker 1: because I had a lot of people who hit me
- 1:02Speaker 1: on the low asking how I felt about this, that,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and the third. People love to give free shows, right?
- 1:08Speaker 1: So we all saw it. Ace Bailey got drafted fifth
- 1:12Speaker 1: by the Utah Jazz. And, of course, it's made all
- 1:15Speaker 1: the funnier by the fact that it is the Utah Jazz, okay?
- 1:19Speaker 1: And it seemed fairly clear that Ace Bailey did not
- 1:22Speaker 1: want to go play for the Utah Jazz, though I'm
- 1:26Speaker 1: going to be perfectly honest. I have no idea what
- 1:29Speaker 1: Ace Bailey himself actually wanted, right? Maybe he felt about
- 1:36Speaker 1: Utah the way that Derek Fisher felt about Utah. And
- 1:38Speaker 1: if you are unfamiliar, you can go look up when
- 1:41Speaker 1: Derek Fisher played. I think he was playing for the
- 1:44Speaker 1: Mavericks again, and the Mavericks were terrible players. And there
- 1:47Speaker 1: was a word going out that he could be traded
- 1:49Speaker 1: to the Utah Jazz. And people were a little mad
- 1:52Speaker 1: at him because he did not go because the Jazz
- 1:54Speaker 1: had a chance to win a championship. And he was like, nah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I got nothing wrong with Utah. But if you like
- 2:00Speaker 1: Utah so much, you go live in Utah.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Right?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Like, it's the spot that people say that nobody wants
- 2:09Speaker 1: to go live. Now, everybody understands why.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Okay?
- 2:15Speaker 1: I don't think that the Utah... What they call Ryan
- 2:18Speaker 1: the Mammoth. Is that what they call their hockey team?
- 2:21Speaker 1: The Mammoth or the Mammoths?
- 2:23Speaker 3: I believe they're just like the Utah Hockey Club.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Oh, no, no.
- 2:26Speaker 1: They got a name now. They got a name now.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So I believe they are now the Mammoth. Like the
- 2:32Speaker 1: NHL has gone full science fiction. We got the Kraken.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We got the Mammoth. We already had the Predators.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It is the Utah Mammoth.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Mammoth.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Not multiple Mammoth. Singular mammoth.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Okay. Singular mammoth. Or is mammoth. It's a moose situation. Okay.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Got you. Got you. You're right. Two mooses is moose.
- 2:56Speaker 1: They're not meese.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Correct.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Anyway. You know, you talk about, first of all, the man,
- 3:02Speaker 1: the boy calls himself Ace, right? Arius Ace Bailey living
- 3:06Speaker 1: in Utah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Eh!
- 3:08Speaker 1: You know, we can understand why he would not want
- 3:10Speaker 1: to go there, but it is obvious that it is
- 3:13Speaker 1: a gentleman named Omar Cooper who is running the show
- 3:17Speaker 1: for him. Now, Omar Cooper had a son or has
- 3:21Speaker 1: a son named Sharif. And Sharif went to McEachern High
- 3:26Speaker 1: School right outside of Atlanta, which is also where Ace
- 3:31Speaker 1: Bailey went to high school. There's a four year gap
- 3:35Speaker 1: between the two guys, but I'm going to take that
- 3:38Speaker 1: as an indication of how exactly it is that they
- 3:42Speaker 1: came across each other. And the other part is Mr. Cooper.
- 3:48Speaker 1: appears to have a fairly lengthy rap sheet, or at
- 3:52Speaker 1: the very least, a rap sheet a little lengthier than
- 3:55Speaker 1: one would prefer, generally speaking, if they were interviewing agents. Now,
- 4:02Speaker 1: to me, I will say that having that rap sheet
- 4:05Speaker 1: is actually not really a disqualifying factor. I've talked about
- 4:09Speaker 1: this on this show many times, my feelings about agents,
- 4:11Speaker 1: which is it is a very interesting job in the
- 4:15Speaker 1: sense that Anybody can do it. But not everybody can
- 4:22Speaker 1: do it. Okay?
- 4:23Speaker 6: Right?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Like, the game that you need to be an agent
- 4:27Speaker 1: is not really game that you're going to get in school.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It is.
- 4:32Speaker 1: To me, it seems to be a very intuitive sort
- 4:34Speaker 1: of skill to understand what other people can and cannot
- 4:39Speaker 1: do or are not willing to do. Right. Figuring out
- 4:42Speaker 1: their incentives and stuff like that, while also in this
- 4:46Speaker 1: is the big one, having the stomach to truck through discomfort. Right.
- 4:52Speaker 1: The ability to look a motherfucker in the eye and
- 4:54Speaker 1: be like, no, that's what we about to do. And,
- 4:56Speaker 1: you know, that's what we about to do.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Some of the job is finesse. But another part of
- 5:00Speaker 1: it is just the ability to sit in the discomfort.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And if you can sit in the discomfort longer, you're
- 5:05Speaker 1: going to win. Rich Paul is a great example. One
- 5:07Speaker 1: thing that Rich Paul is really good at is waiting
- 5:09Speaker 1: until the very end of something. You're not going to
- 5:11Speaker 1: rush him. We saw that in various negotiations that he
- 5:14Speaker 1: has done. Tristan Thompson with the Cleveland Cavaliers about 11
- 5:18Speaker 1: years ago or 10 years ago was maybe the most
- 5:20Speaker 1: notorious of that. But he'll sit there and we'll two
- 5:22Speaker 1: days before camp. OK, we ain't got no deal. We
- 5:24Speaker 1: just go sit in it.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So, yeah, a dude that used to do some things,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I think might have the proper temperament to handle a
- 5:32Speaker 1: big part of the job of being an agent. My
- 5:35Speaker 1: concern with the dude is I don't really know what association,
- 5:40Speaker 1: attachment or whatever it is that he has with Ace
- 5:42Speaker 1: Bailey and how much he actually cares about the dude.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And the reason I bring that up, and this is
- 5:48Speaker 1: like one of the funnier things that I saw over
- 5:51Speaker 1: the weekend. I saw a picture. where Ace Bailey was
- 6:02Speaker 1: up there in East Orange, New Jersey, taking a picture
- 6:09Speaker 1: by a concrete basketball court with Vin Rock from Naughty
- 6:16Speaker 1: by Nature. Now, you may be wondering, the fuck is
- 6:22Speaker 1: Ace Bailey doing in East Orange, New Jersey? That's what
- 6:26Speaker 1: I was wondering. It turns out that the Cooper fella
- 6:30Speaker 1: is from East Orange, and it sounds like Ace was
- 6:33Speaker 1: there doing him a solid. And that's where I'm like, bruh,
- 6:37Speaker 1: he's supposed to be in Utah right now. Like, he
- 6:40Speaker 1: was supposed to have gone with his team. And maybe
- 6:45Speaker 1: he'd still be in Utah, but he hadn't been in Utah,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but he had been in East Orange, New Jersey.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And.
- 6:51Speaker 1: The way I look at that and the way that
- 6:53Speaker 1: I view that with him being there is that is
- 6:57Speaker 1: the player serving the interests of the agent and it
- 7:02Speaker 1: should never be that. It's not how this works. This
- 7:07Speaker 1: is not a I do for you, you do for
- 7:09Speaker 1: me relationship. This is a you do for me and
- 7:13Speaker 1: I pay you a percentage relationship. That's how that's supposed
- 7:16Speaker 1: to work. So when I look at that, I'm like, oh, OK,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I don't really understand exactly what this cat is in
- 7:21Speaker 1: it for, because he could have been all those other things.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Do you watch boxing? You know what I'm saying? Lots
- 7:25Speaker 1: of people do lots of business in boxing while also
- 7:28Speaker 1: have a criminal past. Now, granted, a lot of them
- 7:30Speaker 1: also steal, but. He could be fully capable of doing
- 7:34Speaker 1: his job, having the other stuff. But what it can't
- 7:36Speaker 1: be is the 19, 20 year old is serving whatever
- 7:40Speaker 1: it is that you say you need. It can't be that.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And then I saw the picture on the video that
- 7:46Speaker 1: people put up on the Internet of the dude. Right.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And let's just say he don't look like nobody that
- 7:51Speaker 1: got no LinkedIn page. Right. He just doesn't seem like
- 7:54Speaker 1: the person he's supposed to be. But next thing I know,
- 7:57Speaker 1: the next funny thing I saw on the Internet. I
- 8:01Speaker 1: look up. And it's a white man on front office
- 8:06Speaker 1: sports who now claims to be Aces representation. I've heard
- 8:10Speaker 1: some things about how this white man got here. I
- 8:13Speaker 1: don't fully understand it. I don't know who made whatever call,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but I
- 8:24Speaker 1: was kind of relieved when I saw that white man
- 8:25Speaker 1: on screen. I was like, oh, okay, maybe things are
- 8:30Speaker 1: going to start calming down just a little bit, right?
- 8:34Speaker 1: And so the white man was up there, and he
- 8:35Speaker 1: started talking about how Ace is very happy to go
- 8:38Speaker 1: to the Utah Jazz. He talked about the Cooper fella,
- 8:41Speaker 1: and he was very nice, and he was very kind
- 8:43Speaker 1: about that, but, like, I think I wasn't so much
- 8:47Speaker 1: relieved at seeing a white man because I thought a
- 8:50Speaker 1: white man could do better. But I did feel like
- 8:53Speaker 1: the Utah Jazz would perhaps deal with this a little
- 8:56Speaker 1: bit better and it might make things a little smoother.
- 8:58Speaker 1: It sounded like they was moving in the path to
- 9:00Speaker 1: getting ace to go to Utah. OK, and he had
- 9:05Speaker 1: to go to Utah. And the thing I don't think
- 9:07Speaker 1: that people understand here and what I don't think Cooper
- 9:09Speaker 1: understood here was that. If you're going to try to
- 9:12Speaker 1: pull off, I'm not going to the place that drafted me,
- 9:15Speaker 1: a la Eli Manning, a la John Elway. You got
- 9:19Speaker 1: to have a couple of things at play here. Number one,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you have to have another team that wants you. Number two,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you have to have an agent who can finesse it.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And so I had seen a report or seen somebody
- 9:32Speaker 1: make the point that apparently what happened was Charlotte wanted
- 9:35Speaker 1: to take Kyle Knipple, right? They wound up taking him
- 9:37Speaker 1: at four, but they wanted Knipple to take him. The
- 9:40Speaker 1: Wizards wanted Ace Bailey. They were at six. They were
- 9:42Speaker 1: willing to trade up to four in order to get Ace.
- 9:46Speaker 1: But then Danny Ains sitting at five said, well, if
- 9:49Speaker 1: you do that, I'm just going to take Knipple. And
- 9:51Speaker 1: so the Hornets did not make the trade. You see
- 9:54Speaker 1: what I'm saying? That's the game that needed to be played.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Somebody needed to figure out how to massage all these things.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He didn't have an agent that was capable of pulling
- 10:03Speaker 1: that off, right? And then in the end, it's a draft, man.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And so as much as I hate the draft and
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm an opponent of the draft, this is what the
- 10:09Speaker 1: draft is. This is how the draft works. You can't
- 10:12Speaker 1: have everything that you want out of the situation, right?
- 10:15Speaker 1: You got to figure out a way to make it happen.
- 10:17Speaker 1: His guy did not have the tools in order to
- 10:20Speaker 1: make it happen. And then once it didn't happen, you
- 10:22Speaker 1: just needed to be like, all right, well, I guess
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm going to Utah. And by all the way in,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'm going to Utah. Okay. And eventually at some point,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Ace Bailey did buy in on going to Utah. And Ryan,
- 10:32Speaker 1: I know he bought in on going to Utah because
- 10:34Speaker 1: he went to the press conference. And I don't know
- 10:36Speaker 1: who they put in charge. But the funniest thing I
- 10:39Speaker 1: heard about this weekend is Ace Bailey showed up at
- 10:43Speaker 1: that press conference with his dog wearing a Utah Jazz bandana.
- 10:50Speaker 3: It's a pro move. If you want to ingratiate yourself,
- 10:54Speaker 3: that's just a slow clap.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:57Speaker 3: If you want to end all controversy real quick, show up.
- 11:01Speaker 3: That's almost better than showing up with your kid after
- 11:05Speaker 3: a game where you don't do well. Showing up preemptively
- 11:08Speaker 3: with the dog.
- 11:08Speaker 1: With the dog. Let me tell you whose idea that
- 11:11Speaker 1: was not. That was not Omar Cooper's idea. I'm here
- 11:14Speaker 1: to tell you right now, somebody else is running this operation.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And shout out to whoever that was. Everything's okay, Ace. Everything,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, you had a little bump in the road there.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You might need to show up with the dog everywhere
- 11:25Speaker 1: you go for quite a while. But for right now.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And we still train camp.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That's right. Great job, though. That was an amazing move.
- 11:33Speaker 1: But in the end, you can't always get what you want.
- 11:43Speaker 1: It's what we're talking about here, right? That is what
- 11:47Speaker 1: Bailey learned there. I didn't care that he didn't want
- 11:50Speaker 1: to go to the team that drafted him, right? I
- 11:52Speaker 1: wasn't offended that he didn't try to get out of it.
- 11:56Speaker 1: He was just making terrible decisions. Whoever was in charge,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and I don't think he was making any of those decisions,
- 12:02Speaker 1: but they were making terrible decisions, right? Now, I actually
- 12:06Speaker 1: say all that to lead into a discussion about somebody
- 12:09Speaker 1: else and that somebody else is LeBron James. LeBron James
- 12:14Speaker 1: had a player option in his deal for $ 52 million.
- 12:18Speaker 1: LeBron opted in on the $ 52 million, but then after
- 12:25Speaker 1: opting in on the $ 52 million, Rich Paul put out
- 12:32Speaker 1: a statement that I think we'd all agree it was
- 12:35Speaker 1: a little, huh? LeBron wants to compete for a championship.
- 12:39Speaker 1: He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He
- 12:42Speaker 1: understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning
- 12:45Speaker 1: it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that
- 12:48Speaker 1: we've had for eight years with Jeannie and Rob and
- 12:51Speaker 1: consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career.
- 12:54Speaker 1: We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for
- 12:58Speaker 1: the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for
- 13:00Speaker 1: LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He
- 13:03Speaker 1: wants to make every season he has left count, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Lakers understand that, are supportive, and want what's best
- 13:08Speaker 1: for him. Ryan, did he just opt in and ask
- 13:11Speaker 1: for a trade at the same time?
- 13:13Speaker 3: It certainly feels... It certainly... These sorts of statements from
- 13:18Speaker 3: Rich Paul, as someone who's... We've followed the LeBron saga
- 13:21Speaker 3: now for two decades, certainly the unhappiness saga for over
- 13:24Speaker 3: a decade and a half. This usually comes right in
- 13:26Speaker 3: the middle of the season, not going into the year.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and so... This is tough for me. And I
- 13:35Speaker 1: can only imagine how tough it is for LeBron. And
- 13:37Speaker 1: quite honestly, I can only imagine how tough it is
- 13:40Speaker 1: for Rich Paul. Because let's be clear, they are not
- 13:42Speaker 1: a team, okay? Rich Paul plays for LeBron. LeBron tells
- 13:47Speaker 1: Rich Paul what to do. And this appears to be
- 13:50Speaker 1: what Rich Paul was told to do. Because Rich is bright.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And Rich has to know he has a losing proposition here.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And when I say he has a losing proposition here,
- 14:01Speaker 1: this is what I mean. LeBron took less than the
- 14:08Speaker 1: max in Miami to facilitate winning and got absolutely no
- 14:15Speaker 1: credit for it from none of y'all. He took the
- 14:20Speaker 1: less than the max and got no credit for it.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He is a man who in truth in his career
- 14:28Speaker 1: has probably been underpaid by something in the neighborhood of
- 14:33Speaker 1: a billion dollars. If not more. I don't I don't
- 14:39Speaker 1: I don't really have much of a doubt of that.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I think LeBron has probably been worth over 100 million
- 14:42Speaker 1: dollars in his league every year. that he has played, right?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Like he has been drastically underpaid. He will never take
- 14:49Speaker 1: a penny less than the max ever again. And he
- 14:52Speaker 1: ain't got to explain that to me. He ain't got
- 14:54Speaker 1: to apologize for it to me, right? He wants his bread.
- 14:58Speaker 1: This league owes him his bread. And keep in mind,
- 15:01Speaker 1: this is the man that got Spotify with the advertisements
- 15:04Speaker 1: in it, okay? He's serious about his money. Problem is,
- 15:08Speaker 1: in the year of our Lord, 2025, you cannot win
- 15:12Speaker 1: a championship paying LeBron James $ 50 million a year. The
- 15:16Speaker 1: reason you can't win a championship paying LeBron $ 50 million
- 15:19Speaker 1: a year is I don't think that you can win
- 15:22Speaker 1: a championship in this league when your second best player
- 15:25Speaker 1: makes $ 50 million a year. I don't think you can
- 15:28Speaker 1: win a championship with LeBron as your best player, meaning
- 15:31Speaker 1: he can be at best your second best player. But
- 15:35Speaker 1: you can't win a championship with your second best player
- 15:37Speaker 1: making $ 50 million a year. It's a no-win proposition in
- 15:41Speaker 1: a way where I don't really understand what he's going for,
- 15:44Speaker 1: where he's trying to work himself into, what exactly it
- 15:48Speaker 1: is that he is trying to engineer. I don't get it.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And what I say is you can't get everything that
- 15:58Speaker 1: you want out of this situation it's not going to
- 16:03Speaker 1: happen and so for him it becomes a matter of
- 16:05Speaker 1: what to prioritize well they already took the 50 right
- 16:09Speaker 1: so we're already there with him on the 50 i
- 16:13Speaker 1: think he and the lakers are stuck with each other
- 16:18Speaker 1: i don't think either of them can truly afford to
- 16:21Speaker 1: move on what i mean when i say that or
- 16:24Speaker 1: why i say that genie buss finds it to be
- 16:29Speaker 1: very important that the Lakers are viewed as a franchise
- 16:34Speaker 1: that takes care of its stars. OK, we first really
- 16:39Speaker 1: got a glimpse into this in the way that they
- 16:41Speaker 1: humbled themselves trying to keep Dwight Howard in 2013 with
- 16:44Speaker 1: billboards and everything else, even though he wound up leaving.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:49Speaker 1: They tried. They gave it a go. OK, we all
- 16:52Speaker 1: know what the problem was there. But, you know, you
- 16:55Speaker 1: got to be careful with the things we say about this.
- 16:58Speaker 1: So they wanted to keep Dwight because that's what they do. Okay.
- 17:06Speaker 1: They got LeBron. LeBron has been there now for seven years,
- 17:10Speaker 1: not the eighth that Rich Paul said, which I found
- 17:12Speaker 1: to be interesting because Rich Paul knows how many years
- 17:14Speaker 1: it's been.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 17:16Speaker 1: It'll be eight at the end of this year. I
- 17:18Speaker 1: don't know exactly how that mistake got made or whether
- 17:21Speaker 1: he was already looking into the future, but you're not
- 17:23Speaker 1: going to tell me he doesn't know exactly how many
- 17:25Speaker 1: years LeBron has been there. But that's the longest continuous
- 17:27Speaker 1: stretch LeBron has been anywhere in his career. It's tied
- 17:31Speaker 1: with the first run in Cleveland. That was a seven-year run, okay?
- 17:35Speaker 1: So Genie wants to keep LeBron, but they have already
- 17:37Speaker 1: invested in the Luka era, okay? That's the future. They've
- 17:42Speaker 1: made that call. He is the next star, okay? But
- 17:46Speaker 1: the Lakers can't say we're not going to re-sign LeBron James.
- 17:50Speaker 1: That is counter to what they do. I don't think
- 17:53Speaker 1: that they're in the, well, we're going to trade LeBron James. Ooh, ooh.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I don't really think that one's in the cards either
- 18:01Speaker 1: for a player of that caliber. That runs counter to
- 18:03Speaker 1: the brand that they are trying to build. On the
- 18:06Speaker 1: other hand, LeBron James clearly wanted to be a Laker.
- 18:11Speaker 1: One of the big things that we heard when he
- 18:13Speaker 1: went there was he wanted to be part of one
- 18:16Speaker 1: of the bigger, established, iconic brands of the sport. One
- 18:20Speaker 1: of the great franchises. He wanted to have that anchor. Plus,
- 18:26Speaker 1: He wants to be a Hollywood player. Now, business for
- 18:30Speaker 1: Spring Hill is a little bit different. They got bought
- 18:32Speaker 1: out by somebody, right? So that game has gone a
- 18:34Speaker 1: little bit different, but he wants to be a guy
- 18:36Speaker 1: in LA, right? There was even to the point where
- 18:39Speaker 1: he wasn't like the thought of him being like an
- 18:41Speaker 1: action star. Like we've seen him in the movies, all
- 18:43Speaker 1: that thing, but A player in Hollywood and a player
- 18:47Speaker 1: in Los Angeles is what he wanted to be. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: having that relationship with the Lakers helps a lot toward
- 18:53Speaker 1: his goal. What, you tell me LeBron going to go
- 18:55Speaker 1: back to Cleveland? I don't think so. In fact, I
- 18:57Speaker 1: think it would be silly for Cleveland to do. But
- 18:59Speaker 1: LeBron going back to Cleveland? Don't see it. Where is
- 19:04Speaker 1: he going to go just to win that championship if
- 19:07Speaker 1: that's what it comes down to that is truly helpful
- 19:10Speaker 1: for him and, again, will truly put him in a
- 19:12Speaker 1: position where the team can win a championship? I personally
- 19:16Speaker 1: don't see that on the board for him. Where I
- 19:19Speaker 1: think he made a mistake or where I would have
- 19:22Speaker 1: advised him is how he treated this relationship with the Lakers.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And I think that he has mismanaged it basically from
- 19:32Speaker 1: the very beginning. Here's why I say that. Simply being
- 19:38Speaker 1: on the Lakers... was not going to be enough to
- 19:42Speaker 1: achieve what I believe LeBron James wanted.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Okay?
- 19:49Speaker 1: To be attached to the Lakers in the way that
- 19:52Speaker 1: he wished to be attached to the Lakers, he needed
- 19:55Speaker 1: to go all in on the idea of being a Laker.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Keeping in mind that he is the successor to Kobe
- 20:04Speaker 1: Bryant with the Lakers, which took on an additional magnitude
- 20:08Speaker 1: after Kobe passed. Kobe Bryant love the Lakers even with
- 20:15Speaker 1: the trade situation of 20 or 2007 and all of
- 20:18Speaker 1: that Kobe Bryant identified himself as a Laker fan and
- 20:23Speaker 1: loved being a Laker and his relationship with that fan
- 20:25Speaker 1: base is familial okay it is a relationship where over
- 20:30Speaker 1: that time they went through things they had highs they
- 20:33Speaker 1: had lows but the association with Kobe Bryant as sociopathic
- 20:38Speaker 1: as he was about the basketball stuff felt very real
- 20:43Speaker 1: and very warm with the franchise. LeBron, for reasons that
- 20:50Speaker 1: make perfect sense and are informed by his lived experience,
- 20:54Speaker 1: does not relate to franchises that way. I think he
- 20:58Speaker 1: came to relate to Cleveland, specifically because Akron and Cleveland
- 21:04Speaker 1: are not the same place, but he came to feel
- 21:06Speaker 1: that way about Cleveland and that relationship. became different after
- 21:10Speaker 1: they went through some phase right and then they got
- 21:11Speaker 1: the championship but that that was the thing for LeBron
- 21:14Speaker 1: there was there's a real there's a real thing there
- 21:16Speaker 1: with him and the people the relationship with him and
- 21:19Speaker 1: the Lakers has always felt transactional and that was not
- 21:24Speaker 1: going to get him what he wanted to be you're
- 21:27Speaker 1: dealing with a fan base that spent a long time
- 21:29Speaker 1: rooting against you because you're not Kobe Bryant And Kobe
- 21:32Speaker 1: never seemed to really, really, really wrap his arms around LeBron. Now,
- 21:36Speaker 1: LeBron will tell you that isn't the case, but I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: saying from here, it didn't appear that way. And whether
- 21:43Speaker 1: it's the truth or not, it doesn't matter in terms
- 21:45Speaker 1: of application of what your relationship is going to be
- 21:47Speaker 1: with those people there.
- 21:49Speaker 6: Okay.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Everything needed to be, I am a Laker for life.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I am, this will be my last stop, right? I
- 21:57Speaker 1: would like to win one more championship with the Lakers.
- 21:59Speaker 1: You could be like Will Chamberlain, who played for two
- 22:02Speaker 1: other franchises, but in the end was a Laker and
- 22:05Speaker 1: an LA guy and became that dude, right? That's what
- 22:10Speaker 1: I think he needed to say and he needed to do.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Because winning a championship is really, really, really, really, really unlikely.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And LeBron told us ring culture is overrated. Got it.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Should have leaned in, I think, just on being a Laker.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Make the transition to setting Luka Doncic up if you want,
- 22:31Speaker 1: all of those things. To me, that is the long-run play.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Even if you take the 50, okay? Take the 50
- 22:40Speaker 1: and be like, I'm never going anywhere else. I'm staying here.
- 22:45Speaker 1: This is where I'm going to be. Instead, Ryan, it's
- 22:48Speaker 1: not like LeBron thinks he can play forever.
- 22:51Speaker 3: It's a wild thing because by any metric, he was
- 22:54Speaker 3: one of the 10 best players in the league during
- 22:57Speaker 3: the regular season. But everything the finals taught us were
- 23:01Speaker 3: that finals was won by young dudes and teams that
- 23:03Speaker 3: have a lot of dudes. And things you can't do
- 23:06Speaker 3: if you pay two players $ 50 million with the new
- 23:09Speaker 3: cba it's impossible.
- 23:10Speaker 1: And even if he's a top 10 player he is
- 23:12Speaker 1: too old to give you lebron like lebron lebron but
- 23:16Speaker 1: so often right right like there's going to be yep
- 23:21Speaker 1: it's kind of what bruce bowen talked about man these
- 23:24Speaker 1: cats ain't supposed to still be playing basketball this long
- 23:26Speaker 1: right but it's complicated by the fact that he's so
- 23:29Speaker 1: good yeah but not quite that level anymore, right? But
- 23:35Speaker 1: he needs to say, I am a Laker. I think
- 23:38Speaker 1: that's the win. But all the stuff you want to get,
- 23:40Speaker 1: you want to be paid this much. You want to
- 23:44Speaker 1: have this chance at winning a championship and kind of
- 23:47Speaker 1: the coldness of the tone in the way that they... Nah, man,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you're not going to be able to get those things.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I don't think those things are available. But I won't
- 23:58Speaker 1: blame him at all. Get that money if that's what
- 24:01Speaker 1: you want. Try to get yourself to the best chance
- 24:04Speaker 1: at a championship if that's what you want. Try your hardest.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It's just not going to work. Oh, guys, guys, guys, guys.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I have been saying for a very long time, I
- 24:21Speaker 1: feel like I got a little bit too much credit
- 24:23Speaker 1: for saying this obvious thing and making this obvious point,
- 24:25Speaker 1: but We're ticking closer and closer to a big gambling scandal. Now,
- 24:31Speaker 1: we don't really have a big one right now, but
- 24:33Speaker 1: we did get word that Malik Beasley is under investigation
- 24:36Speaker 1: by the feds for gambling. I can only presume that
- 24:41Speaker 1: this news has been leaked because Beasley is a free
- 24:44Speaker 1: agent and somebody needs us all to understand why it
- 24:49Speaker 1: is that nobody's going to sign him. And it is
- 24:52Speaker 1: probably going to be this because it is too risky.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I have no idea if Beasley actually did what he
- 25:02Speaker 1: is accused of or being investigated for. That is a
- 25:07Speaker 1: better way to put it. Our guy Tom Havistrow did
- 25:09Speaker 1: a really interesting look at the allegations or what the
- 25:14Speaker 1: investigation is in. In a game that in the report
- 25:17Speaker 1: that Sham Sharania did for ESPN, a game that they're
- 25:20Speaker 1: looking at is when Milwaukee, when Beasley played there, played
- 25:24Speaker 1: a game at home. the Portland Trailblazers, and it was
- 25:28Speaker 1: an over-under bet on rebounds, and that right before the games,
- 25:33Speaker 1: there were a lot of bets on rebounds, right? On
- 25:39Speaker 1: his over-under for rebounds. But the thing is, there was
- 25:43Speaker 1: a huge surge of action on the under, and Beasley
- 25:49Speaker 1: went way over. And Haberstroh looked at the clips. It
- 25:54Speaker 1: was like, it does not look like he was out
- 25:56Speaker 1: here trying to do what they said. Like the eyeball test,
- 25:59Speaker 1: at the very least, did not match. Again, I have
- 26:03Speaker 1: no idea how this is going to turn out. But
- 26:05Speaker 1: Haberstroh did a really interesting look at it. And on
- 26:08Speaker 1: its face, it is not a slam dunk case against
- 26:12Speaker 1: Malik Beasley. Okay. I think thus far, the league is
- 26:17Speaker 1: fortunate that all the stories that we have heard about
- 26:20Speaker 1: are about props. OK, and I don't think the general
- 26:24Speaker 1: public cares about Malik Beasley running game on props like
- 26:28Speaker 1: him running game on how many rebounds he gets. I
- 26:31Speaker 1: don't think the general public cares about that. I think
- 26:34Speaker 1: the general public cares about point shaving and fixing games.
- 26:39Speaker 1: That's the concern. And so when these stories come out
- 26:43Speaker 1: like these, like John T. Porter, the same way, I
- 26:46Speaker 1: don't think anybody cares about that. I don't. I think
- 26:49Speaker 1: it matters within buildings that teams have to make decisions
- 26:52Speaker 1: about whether they're going to have those guys. But this
- 26:53Speaker 1: is not the stuff that threatens the integrity of the game.
- 26:55Speaker 1: That hasn't happened yet, but it's coming. I don't see
- 26:58Speaker 1: any way that anybody can think that it's not going
- 27:01Speaker 1: to wind up coming. And the reason I think it's
- 27:03Speaker 1: going to wind up coming is I think it's so
- 27:06Speaker 1: incredibly stupid to try to run the game that they're
- 27:08Speaker 1: trying to run on Malik Beasley, for example. So let's
- 27:12Speaker 1: say for a moment that Beasley was in on some
- 27:16Speaker 1: kind of fix, right? And all these people rushed and
- 27:19Speaker 1: put this money in on his under for rebounding. Because
- 27:23Speaker 1: the under is really the only part that you can
- 27:25Speaker 1: feel confident that you can fix, right? So let's say
- 27:29Speaker 1: the Beasley comes in and hits the under. Everybody puts
- 27:33Speaker 1: in the money on the under for rebounding. Ryan, I
- 27:37Speaker 1: think you've seen this also. The way that they catch
- 27:39Speaker 1: you is that once you have this odd betting behavior
- 27:45Speaker 1: this unusual amount of activity they take it off the
- 27:48Speaker 1: board and now they start paying attention because they're like
- 27:50Speaker 1: who are all these people who are these people that
- 27:52Speaker 1: care about malik beasley getting rebounds.
- 27:54Speaker 3: It's a the thing that always blows my mind about
- 27:57Speaker 3: these stories is you know the way they they always
- 28:01Speaker 3: phrase it is defrauding a gambling enterprise you know what
- 28:05Speaker 3: the normal way of saying that is trying to steal
- 28:07Speaker 3: from a casino.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yes Which all of us know. Terrible idea. We've all
- 28:13Speaker 1: seen the movies.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we've seen the movies. It's very difficult.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Excuse me, sir. Why don't you come back here and
- 28:17Speaker 1: get your check, huh?
- 28:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Back in this other room. The next thing you know,
- 28:21Speaker 1: you got your finger in a vice. Like, or, oh, no, no.
- 28:24Speaker 1: This is a, they're going to notice all these, who
- 28:28Speaker 1: the fuck is betting on Malik Beasley getting rebounds? You
- 28:31Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying? Like, the caliber of player that
- 28:34Speaker 1: gets caught up in this is the caliber of player
- 28:36Speaker 1: nobody bets on.
- 28:38Speaker 3: It's a very easy thing to catch.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You know why it's a very easy thing to catch?
- 28:44Speaker 1: Because they got a whole department whose entire job is
- 28:48Speaker 1: catching you do these things.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Catching you stealing from the casino.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Hold on. The casino. Not the bodega. The casino. You
- 28:58Speaker 1: might be able to shoplift from the bodega. That's fine.
- 29:01Speaker 1: The Nordstrom look like Howard Hughes with the room with
- 29:04Speaker 1: all the screens on it. They gonna get you, right?
- 29:09Speaker 1: And so the caliber of player that gets caught up
- 29:11Speaker 1: in this is typically a guy like this. And I
- 29:13Speaker 1: just feel like everybody involved, why do you think you
- 29:17Speaker 1: can get away with this? Now, maybe you think you
- 29:19Speaker 1: can get away with it because you get away with
- 29:21Speaker 1: it once and they let you get away with it once.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And then they just let it keep going. And you
- 29:25Speaker 1: too stupid to realize that they just letting you rack
- 29:27Speaker 1: up a fella, right? You don't understand that that's the
- 29:30Speaker 1: direction that this is going in. Maybe that's it. I
- 29:34Speaker 1: don't know. But this is the this is the small
- 29:38Speaker 1: part this is only the beginning this is only the
- 29:46Speaker 1: beginning and the more and more it happens the more
- 29:50Speaker 1: it eats away at the integrity of the sport And
- 29:56Speaker 1: that's when this all falls apart. This is not wrestling.
- 30:00Speaker 1: What makes this compelling is the real live drama that
- 30:05Speaker 1: is involved. And it is based on the sanctity of
- 30:08Speaker 1: what happens. And so, like I say, it's a thin line.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I think people can live with props. Once it takes
- 30:17Speaker 1: one more step. And look, I saw something, and I
- 30:21Speaker 1: don't understand this one. And it's a game... Now, this
- 30:24Speaker 1: is pretty hilarious. It's a game where Michael Beasley... I mean,
- 30:28Speaker 1: not Michael Beasley. Sorry, Michael Beasley. Malik Beasley scores like
- 30:32Speaker 1: seven points in the last minute of the game, and
- 30:35Speaker 1: the Timberwolves then covered. Like, they were something like eight-and-a-half-point underdogs,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and they wound up covering because he went on this
- 30:42Speaker 1: barrage at the end of the game. But that... If
- 30:48Speaker 1: you bet on your own team to cover or you're
- 30:51Speaker 1: part of an operation that bet on your own team
- 30:52Speaker 1: to cover, like it's a bad idea. You shouldn't do it.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:57Speaker 1: But that's not the one I think that's going to
- 30:59Speaker 1: really shake people up that much. That's part of why
- 31:01Speaker 1: people want to let Pete Rose slide is because they
- 31:03Speaker 1: really always bet on his team. That one doesn't really
- 31:06Speaker 1: offend people in this way. But it's going to go
- 31:09Speaker 1: farther and farther. And the assumption always is that somebody
- 31:11Speaker 1: who does this like John J. Porter is desperate and
- 31:14Speaker 1: owes people money. And that's how they get caught up.
- 31:17Speaker 1: This gambling thing is going to hit our entire society.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It's going to. And the reason is very simple. It's
- 31:23Speaker 1: one thing when you had to go to the track
- 31:25Speaker 1: to bet, but now the OTB is in your pocket. Right?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Like I told you, I was reading this book that
- 31:30Speaker 1: made a very important point about being online is that
- 31:32Speaker 1: online used to be a place you had to go. Right?
- 31:35Speaker 1: You had to sit down at your computer and.
- 31:40Speaker 1: The next thing you know, you was online. Well, now
- 31:42Speaker 1: online is a place that goes everywhere that your phone goes.
- 31:44Speaker 1: You're always online. That means with the casino that you're
- 31:47Speaker 1: always at the casino. Somebody is going to get themselves
- 31:52Speaker 1: in this trouble because it's almost impossible not to. We
- 31:55Speaker 1: are addicted to our phones as is. You think somebody
- 31:57Speaker 1: is not going to get addicted to the part of
- 31:59Speaker 1: the phone that you can make money with? It's going
- 32:02Speaker 1: to come. It's here, right? And so these slow trickle
- 32:06Speaker 1: stories that's coming out. OK, my question is, what else
- 32:10Speaker 1: they know? Do they know something else? How tough is
- 32:14Speaker 1: this going to get? How far is this going to go?
- 32:17Speaker 1: And when is it going to happen? Ryan, would you
- 32:22Speaker 1: like to do something ironic?
- 32:23Speaker 3: We got a big baseball game tonight. I like Giancarlo
- 32:26Speaker 3: Stanton to have more than one and a half hits
- 32:29Speaker 3: plus runs plus RBIs. I also like Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
- 32:33Speaker 3: to have the same thing. Over one and a half,
- 32:36Speaker 3: one and a half hits, plus runs, plus RBIs. That's
- 32:40Speaker 3: what I like today for DraftKings Pick 6.

- 33:56Speaker 8: Let me tell you about Z-Biotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic. Z-Biotics Pre-Alcohol
- 34:01Speaker 8: Probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic. It
- 34:05Speaker 8: was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Here's how it works. When you drink... Alcohol gets converted
- 34:13Speaker 1: into a toxic byproduct in the gut. It's a buildup
- 34:16Speaker 1: of this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for rough
- 34:20Speaker 1: days after drinking. Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this
- 34:24Speaker 1: byproduct down. Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink
- 34:28Speaker 1: of the night, drink responsibly, and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Summer is here, which means more opportunities to celebrate the
- 34:35Speaker 1: warm weather. Before that backyard barbecue brew, glass of Pinot
- 34:39Speaker 1: watching the sunset at the beach, or cocktail by the campfire,
- 34:43Speaker 1: don't forget your Z Biotic pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking
- 34:47Speaker 1: and wake up feeling great and ready to take on
- 34:50Speaker 1: the next day and all that summer has to offer.

- 35:18Speaker 3: We know you can't be on top of all the
- 35:19Speaker 3: news and information of the day.
- 35:21Speaker 5: No need for the social media feeds.
- 35:23Speaker 2: We got you.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Now, if you haven't heard.
- 35:27Speaker 3: All right, Bo, our first story is about weight loss.
- 35:30Speaker 9: The quest to work out without working out is really endless.
- 35:34Speaker 9: Everybody wants this great summer body, but we'd rather not
- 35:37Speaker 9: spend endless hours at the gym getting it. And so
- 35:39Speaker 9: we look for all these sorts of fitness miracles, sometimes
- 35:43Speaker 9: stuff that's pretty questionable. There are a bunch of contraptions
- 35:46Speaker 9: that promise to whip us into shape with little or
- 35:49Speaker 9: no effort. In the 50s, housewives were sold these vibrating
- 35:53Speaker 9: belts that supposedly did the trick. Nowadays, we have ab
- 35:56Speaker 9: belts and vibrating platforms and shake weights and all sorts
- 35:59Speaker 9: of devices that supposedly help us get fit. The claims
- 36:03Speaker 9: around this stuff can be pretty dubious. Marketers obviously overstate
- 36:06Speaker 9: their effectiveness. And a lot of the research on these
- 36:09Speaker 9: products is done by the companies that make them. So
- 36:12Speaker 9: you can maybe see the problem there. Experts say that
- 36:15Speaker 9: some of this stuff does have some purpose depending on
- 36:18Speaker 9: the thing and the circumstance. And honestly, if some random
- 36:22Speaker 9: tool gets you started exercising, that's fine. But you might
- 36:26Speaker 9: quit pretty quickly. But we're also in the age of
- 36:29Speaker 9: Ozempic and weight loss drugs, and people are really looking
- 36:32Speaker 9: for more miracles and quick fixes. They figure if this
- 36:35Speaker 9: shot can make them thin, why can't some electromagnetic vest
- 36:40Speaker 9: make them fit? The tough thing is that fitness is
- 36:43Speaker 9: this ongoing kind of slow game. Same with health. It
- 36:47Speaker 9: would be really great if a shake weight could get
- 36:50Speaker 9: your arms ready for summer, but it's probably not your
- 36:53Speaker 9: best bet.
- 36:54Speaker 1: You know, Ryan, I talk about this that I'm the
- 36:56Speaker 1: wrong person to really, I can only say so much
- 36:59Speaker 1: on this. Like I have metabolism that makes it such that,
- 37:01Speaker 1: like I once saw John Oliver was talking something about
- 37:03Speaker 1: the Irish one that he was like, I can't really
- 37:05Speaker 1: say anything about it because I talk like this.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Like, like he, like, I feel like I'm in a
- 37:10Speaker 1: very similar situation. Like I can't really get on y'all
- 37:13Speaker 1: about these things and moves. I'm just like, This isn't
- 37:18Speaker 1: how the world works, man. Like this is just as
- 37:22Speaker 1: an absolute across the board thing. I'm just going to
- 37:25Speaker 1: press this button and it's going to, that's not, it
- 37:29Speaker 1: don't go that way. None of those things are going
- 37:32Speaker 1: to do the job that you're hoping for.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, usually I think a good rule of
- 37:36Speaker 3: thumb for most things. And if it's too good to
- 37:39Speaker 3: be true, then it probably is.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:41Speaker 1: But it's, and I feel bad for people because like
- 37:44Speaker 1: people who have giant level, like, Huge weight loss swings. Right.
- 37:50Speaker 1: And I'm getting the words wrong. But, you know, people
- 37:52Speaker 1: who have a situation where they lose a lot of weight.
- 37:55Speaker 1: One thing I hear them say is they realize when
- 37:57Speaker 1: they lose weight, just how much people hate that.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:00Speaker 1: They can instantly tell the difference in how they're treated
- 38:04Speaker 1: and how people look at them. And that's tough. You know,
- 38:08Speaker 1: like and so if you're in the position where you
- 38:10Speaker 1: feel like people look at you like that, yeah, you'll
- 38:12Speaker 1: want to do anything. to make it such that it
- 38:15Speaker 1: doesn't go that way. But, you know, we read these
- 38:17Speaker 1: stories about like, oh, Zempic changing the way what it
- 38:18Speaker 1: is to go out to dinner with people because people
- 38:20Speaker 1: don't want to eat. Like that doesn't, that doesn't sound
- 38:23Speaker 1: fun at all, right? Like none of that sounds like
- 38:26Speaker 1: the game that you want to play. So I get it.
- 38:28Speaker 1: People want to, can't get everything you want, right? Like
- 38:31Speaker 1: we want to find a way to eat all the
- 38:32Speaker 1: stuff that we want to eat and do all the
- 38:34Speaker 1: fun stuff and not take the consequences that come with it, right?
- 38:41Speaker 1: And you just got to figure out which one you want.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Like I realize this is obviously I'm not like at
- 38:45Speaker 1: a risk of obesity necessarily, but I'm a big fan
- 38:48Speaker 1: of sugar, right? I enjoy those things greatly. Hey man,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I have realized that there's some limitations in some of
- 38:54Speaker 1: my goals that come up from eating all this ice cream, right?
- 38:58Speaker 1: And drinking all these simply fruit drinks. I recognize that.
- 39:02Speaker 1: If I stop for a little while, I get the
- 39:04Speaker 1: thing I'm looking for. I have decided I would rather
- 39:08Speaker 1: eat ice cream. That's the call that I've made.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we've all got to make our decisions.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 39:16Speaker 3: All right, this next one's about summer.
- 39:19Speaker 7: Hi, I'm Matt Fuchs, contributing reporter for Time Magazine. I
- 39:22Speaker 7: recently wrote an article about the science of using air
- 39:24Speaker 7: conditioning in ways that'll keep you cool without making you sick.
- 39:28Speaker 7: AC is a great invention for getting through summertime without
- 39:31Speaker 7: a heat-related illness. ACs cool you down and reduce dust, pathogens,
- 39:35Speaker 7: and outdoor pollution like particulate matter 2.5. AC also drops humidity,
- 39:40Speaker 7: which helps prevent unhealthy mold and dust mites. But used
- 39:44Speaker 7: the wrong way, AC can work against you. Breathing in
- 39:47Speaker 7: very dry air makes your body add moisture, and that
- 39:50Speaker 7: moist air leaves your body with every breath. According to
- 39:53Speaker 7: experts I spoke with, this can dry up your airway,
- 39:55Speaker 7: causing coughs, sore throats, and vulnerability to microbes. It's probably
- 39:59Speaker 7: worth getting a fairly cheap humidity sensor. If humidity drops
- 40:03Speaker 7: below 40%, give the AC a rest. If humidity tops 60%,
- 40:06Speaker 7: crank it back up. Also, change your AC filter regularly.
- 40:11Speaker 7: With a dirty filter, the coil and ducts could become
- 40:14Speaker 7: cesspools of mold, bacteria, and allergens, which the AC blows
- 40:17Speaker 7: into your home. People view AC as this magic black
- 40:20Speaker 7: box for making cold, researchers told me. We just think
- 40:23Speaker 7: about it when it stops making cold. But even if
- 40:26Speaker 7: the cold magic still works, a specialist should inspect the
- 40:29Speaker 7: coil and ducts yearly to ensure they're clean.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Experts point to another issue.
- 40:34Speaker 7: If the AC is always on with windows shut, your
- 40:36Speaker 7: air may be rife with an indoor toxin, volatile organic compounds,
- 40:40Speaker 7: or VOCs. released by personal products and linked to chronic diseases.
- 40:44Speaker 7: ACs don't filter them out, but a HEPA air purifier
- 40:48Speaker 7: with a carbon filter can. It traps VOCs and particulate
- 40:51Speaker 7: matter 2.5. VOC monitors aren't always reliable, but monitors for
- 40:57Speaker 7: PM2. 5 are better, and they show humidity levels. Every home
- 41:01Speaker 7: is a unicorn, so try these strategies, check your monitor,
- 41:05Speaker 7: and find what works best to stay healthy, not moldy,
- 41:07Speaker 7: this summer.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Hey, man, I appreciate our man putting us up on
- 41:11Speaker 1: game about this air conditioner because let me tell you something, brother.
- 41:15Speaker 1: If the AC kills me, that's just what it does.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I don't care if it's Legionnaire's disease. We're going down.
- 41:23Speaker 3: You and me both.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Brother, that's just how it has to go, man. Ryan,
- 41:27Speaker 1: we completely skipped let's go hang out at the park
- 41:30Speaker 1: weather in New York City. Completely blew through that.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Missed it.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It did not happen. Like, I love going and just
- 41:36Speaker 1: sitting in the park. Not a chance. I don't know
- 41:40Speaker 1: what just went right through it. I'm just in here
- 41:44Speaker 1: running this air conditioner, baby. Running it hot.
- 41:47Speaker 2: That.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Look, I'll do all those things that man said. Okay,
- 41:52Speaker 1: I'm going to change out every filter. I'm going to
- 41:54Speaker 1: get all these pathogens, these toxins out the air, whatever
- 41:58Speaker 1: it may be, right? And look, maybe it ties into
- 42:00Speaker 1: what I was just saying about the weight loss, right?
- 42:03Speaker 1: What we talk about with the AC is not how
- 42:05Speaker 1: the world works. It's not supposed to be so easy.
- 42:07Speaker 1: You could just press a button and it's cold. You
- 42:10Speaker 1: know what? It's not. It ain't supposed to be that way,
- 42:13Speaker 1: but it is now.
- 42:15Speaker 3: I'm going to push that button on that cold box
- 42:16Speaker 3: and make it go cold as long as it can.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Man, I got a new air conditioning set up, and
- 42:21Speaker 1: it's so weird to where, like, I like to sleep
- 42:24Speaker 1: when it's super cold, and it won't let me take
- 42:27Speaker 1: it down below, like, 65. And I'm like, no, no, no,
- 42:31Speaker 1: we need to keep going, baby. I got to figure
- 42:32Speaker 1: out how to fix that. Keep it going. Keep it going.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I can't think of my boy George. Boy, he talked
- 42:37Speaker 1: about his daddy. God rest his soul. He said his
- 42:39Speaker 1: daddy said a thing. I'll never forget this as long
- 42:40Speaker 1: as I live. He said, I worked too hard to
- 42:42Speaker 1: be hot in my old house. I refuse.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Refuse no being hot outside is terrible being hot indoors is.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Worse yeah no no no no no like so a
- 42:54Speaker 1: thing about living in new york that's kind of hard
- 42:56Speaker 1: to explain is that nobody has everything they want out
- 43:02Speaker 1: of their home nobody like it's just it just it
- 43:06Speaker 1: don't work that way here everybody's making some level of
- 43:10Speaker 1: trade it ain't about to be the ac brother It's not.
- 43:15Speaker 1: There's a lot of these old buildings that ain't got,
- 43:17Speaker 1: you know, where AC is not an option. No, sir. No, sir.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Can't be. I'd be out there on the street looking
- 43:24Speaker 1: for the Iceman, bro. We just have a block and
- 43:25Speaker 1: a fan in my house at all times. It's me not.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Hell no.
- 43:29Speaker 2: All right.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Our last story is from dating. There's a new experimental
- 43:32Speaker 3: dating site called Browser Dating, which aims to match singles
- 43:36Speaker 3: based on their web browsing histories. The unconventional approach analyzes users'
- 43:41Speaker 3: online interest and activities to create compatibility scores. The site
- 43:45Speaker 3: emphasizes transparency, allowing users to see their browsing habits, how
- 43:49Speaker 3: their browsing habits influence potential matches. The platform seeks to
- 43:53Speaker 3: foster connections based on shared interests, behaviors, challenging traditional meeting
- 43:58Speaker 3: methods that often rely on superficial metrics. Beau, your thoughts?
- 44:03Speaker 1: Absolutely not. No chance. No chance. I might as well
- 44:12Speaker 1: let you put something on my brain that tells you
- 44:14Speaker 1: all my thoughts.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I don't know how to describe this without sounding, you know,
- 44:20Speaker 3: like gross. I wouldn't let anyone see my browser history.
- 44:24Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 44:26Speaker 1: If I had known that that was going to be
- 44:27Speaker 1: an option, I would have browsed differently.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Of course.
- 44:30Speaker 1: This is not. And on top of that, let me
- 44:32Speaker 1: tell you something. The last thing I want to be
- 44:34Speaker 1: is with somebody who browses the same stuff as me.
- 44:37Speaker 1: We got to... What are we going to talk about? Yeah, yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 1: What are we... Yeah, no, no. I ain't... I don't... Uh-uh. No, no, no, no, no. Like,
- 44:45Speaker 1: it's a very interesting idea. I see why somebody would do...
- 44:48Speaker 1: It's certainly.
- 44:49Speaker 3: The most honest representation of what your thoughts actually are.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Yes. I actually think that all that's going to do
- 44:56Speaker 1: is make it harder to find somebody. Like, I would be...
- 44:59Speaker 1: It says, I don't... Is compatibility... If compatibility is done
- 45:04Speaker 1: this way, is it measured by similarity? Is it measured
- 45:07Speaker 1: by like complementarity? I don't know if that's a word,
- 45:10Speaker 1: but you know, but like how they fit together rather
- 45:13Speaker 1: than whether or not they're just like straight ahead. Like,
- 45:15Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure.
- 45:17Speaker 3: The scary thing about that to me is what you'll
- 45:20Speaker 3: have is just people who like all the same memes.
- 45:24Speaker 1: I can see that.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Well, that will just lead us to couples who just
- 45:27Speaker 3: think the same memes are funny.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Now, I will say, though, that if you have this
- 45:31Speaker 1: service and one of the factors that you put on
- 45:33Speaker 1: there is, shall we say, what is your search term?
- 45:39Speaker 1: That might work.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Could work.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Right?
- 45:42Speaker 1: But you got to leave it there. You got to
- 45:45Speaker 1: leave just at the term. Just leave it there. And
- 45:49Speaker 1: by the way, keep it highly confidential. Highly confidential. Let
- 45:53Speaker 1: them find out together that they have that in common.
- 46:01Speaker 3: All right, voicemails, oldie but a goodie. Tell us about
- 46:04Speaker 3: the best fight you've seen on the pickup basketball court.
- 46:07Speaker 3: Great responses as always. Here's the first one.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Hello, Bomani. This is Arthur. I'm a big fan that's
- 46:14Speaker 2: following you since your ESPN days, and I wanted to
- 46:17Speaker 2: respond to your question about best fight that you've seen
- 46:21Speaker 2: on a pickup game. So at university, my best friend
- 46:26Speaker 2: was playing a pickup game, and my team had lost.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I was off on the side. I'm watching, and they're
- 46:32Speaker 2: playing against this guy that's on the soccer team at
- 46:34Speaker 2: our university. And he's playing like an athlete that doesn't
- 46:38Speaker 2: play basketball, if you know what I mean, especially like
- 46:40Speaker 2: football players are the best example of that. And my friend,
- 46:44Speaker 2: he's like 6'4, 220, pretty big athletic guy. And the
- 46:48Speaker 2: soccer player is like typical soccer player size, like 5'9,
- 46:51Speaker 2: maybe something like that, smaller. But he's playing really hard,
- 46:54Speaker 2: really hard, hustle, hustle, hustle. And then my friend started
- 46:57Speaker 2: getting more serious with them and just started abusing them
- 46:59Speaker 2: on the post and getting bored and stuff like that.
- 47:03Speaker 2: So then the soccer player decided to get into a
- 47:05Speaker 2: soccer player's bag and he headbutted my friend. Now, my friend,
- 47:10Speaker 2: his mom is a vice president at this school. So
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm like, I need to go protect my friend. So
- 47:16Speaker 2: I run out there, me and this other guy, go
- 47:18Speaker 2: out there and we grab my friend. We're like, we
- 47:19Speaker 2: don't want you to destroy this other guy. This is
- 47:21Speaker 2: not going to be a good look for you, for
- 47:24Speaker 2: your mom or whatever. And we try to calm him
- 47:27Speaker 2: down and we do calm him down a bit. The
- 47:29Speaker 2: soccer dude just kind of takes off at this point.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Then I look at my friend and I see his
- 47:33Speaker 2: mouth and his two front teeth are like pushed back in.
- 47:37Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh damn, I should have let him
- 47:40Speaker 2: fight him. I felt pretty bad about it. So it
- 47:43Speaker 2: wasn't much of a fight, but it was just kind
- 47:45Speaker 2: of crazy to see that in a rare moment because
- 47:48Speaker 2: I'm a pacifist at heart. I don't like seeing fighting.
- 47:50Speaker 2: But at that time, I was like, damn, I really
- 47:53Speaker 2: should have let him, you know, throw some haymakers at
- 47:55Speaker 2: that boy. Again, I've been following you for a long time, Monty.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Enjoy the show. Thanks. Take care.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yo, Mike, you did the right thing. I want you
- 48:07Speaker 1: to always know that you did the right thing. You
- 48:09Speaker 1: did what your friend needed. But it's been all these years.
- 48:15Speaker 1: You could facilitate making it happen at another place. You
- 48:20Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? Like in the same school, it
- 48:22Speaker 1: could be a homecoming or whatever. But the next time
- 48:25Speaker 1: y'all see that, you know what time it is.
- 48:27Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Yo, Bo, this is Jay from PG County, Maryland. And
- 48:35Speaker 4: I'm going to tell you a time when I would–
- 48:37Speaker 4: a fight broke out at a basketball game that I
- 48:41Speaker 4: was participating in.
- 48:42Speaker 5: So I set the scene. This is about the year 2000.
- 48:47Speaker 5: I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm playing on.
- 48:50Speaker 4: A– I don't want to say it's in Clark, but
- 48:53Speaker 4: it's around the Clark campus. I have a couple of
- 48:58Speaker 4: Morris Brown– I went to Morris Brown. I have a
- 49:01Speaker 4: couple of Morris Brown guys with me, and we're playing hoop.
- 49:03Speaker 4: I have my roommate, my roommate at the time. We're
- 49:07Speaker 4: going against these two older.
- 49:10Speaker 5: Classmates. They had been at Morris Brown for at least
- 49:13Speaker 5: two years. So they were upperclassmen.
- 49:17Speaker 4: They knew each other. Me and my roommate were still
- 49:19Speaker 4: getting to know each other. You know, we had summer
- 49:22Speaker 4: school together. And so, you know, coming into the fall,
- 49:25Speaker 4: you know, we were still trying to get to know
- 49:26Speaker 4: each other.
- 49:28Speaker 5: And so we're playing the game against these two upperclassmen.
- 49:31Speaker 2: And I, for some strange reason.
- 49:35Speaker 5: Blacked out.
- 49:36Speaker 4: And when I mean blacked out, I mean Everything I'm
- 49:40Speaker 4: shooting is going in.
- 49:42Speaker 5: It never happened to me.
- 49:43Speaker 4: Those kind of games, my whole life, probably happened three times.
- 49:48Speaker 4: I'm 44 years old. I probably had these games a
- 49:53Speaker 4: grand total of three times in my entire life.
- 49:57Speaker 5: So this is one of those times.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Everything's going in for me to a point where they start,
- 50:04Speaker 4: you know, bickering about, Who's going to guard me? So
- 50:08Speaker 4: they make the switch, and then everything continues to go in.
- 50:11Speaker 4: And so now we've stopped the game, and these two
- 50:16Speaker 4: are in each other's faces. The upperclassmen at Morris Brown
- 50:22Speaker 4: are in each other's faces about to fight each other
- 50:26Speaker 4: because of what I was doing on the court.
- 50:29Speaker 5: It was the first time I felt.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Bad and good And it was weird because I couldn't
- 50:35Speaker 4: really enjoy it because I'm seeing these two dudes literally.
- 50:39Speaker 5: And, yes, they threw blows.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 50:43Speaker 5: Blood was drawn.
- 50:44Speaker 4: It wasn't a big gash, but it was a gash
- 50:48Speaker 4: over one of the guys' eyes.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 4: And it was just crazy, man. I will never forget that.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Shout-out to Morris Brown. Shout-out to Atlanta. Those were some
- 51:01Speaker 4: fun times in my life. I'm back in Prince George's
- 51:04Speaker 4: County now, and I've never had a game like that since.
- 51:07Speaker 5: So that should tell you how far and beyond those
- 51:11Speaker 5: games are for me. Thank you for listening. Appreciate you.
- 51:14Speaker 5: Keep doing what you do, bro.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Bro, that would have left. Like this is the next,
- 51:20Speaker 1: all that's waiting on you after that is a hard
- 51:22Speaker 1: foul because somebody got to show what it is. Also,
- 51:25Speaker 1: when you say hooping around, Clark, that reminds me of
- 51:28Speaker 1: that time I played some ball in University Homes and
- 51:30Speaker 1: it was the one time I dunked in a game
- 51:32Speaker 1: that we should have left right away because the locals
- 51:35Speaker 1: did not appreciate the milestone that I had achieved in
- 51:39Speaker 1: that very moment. Man, man, yeah. Well, hey, man, at
- 51:43Speaker 1: least they wasn't fighting you.
- 51:44Speaker 3: All right, here's our last one.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Hey, Bo.
- 51:48Speaker 6: So I'm slightly outside of the criteria with this one.
- 51:51Speaker 6: It was a practice fight, but still a good story.
- 51:54Speaker 6: So we had these two dudes. This was in college.
- 51:57Speaker 6: They were like power forwards, a little bit heavier dudes.
- 52:00Speaker 6: So they were like, you know, 6'6, 6'7-ish. They start
- 52:05Speaker 6: going at it in practice. Just sort of seemed out
- 52:08Speaker 6: of nowhere, but like just haymakers. So when I say
- 52:11Speaker 6: seeing two dudes who are a little heavyset at 6'6,
- 52:16Speaker 6: standing toe to toe, just throwing haymakers for like probably
- 52:21Speaker 6: 10 to 12 straight seconds. That sounds really short. My God,
- 52:26Speaker 6: it was forever.
- 52:28Speaker 2: I went and was.
- 52:29Speaker 6: Like, oh, I'm going to jump in there and break
- 52:30Speaker 6: it up. You know, my teammates fighting, blah, blah, blah.
- 52:33Speaker 6: Coach holds me back. He's like, what the hell are
- 52:35Speaker 6: you about to do?
- 52:36Speaker 2: And I was like, you're right.
- 52:37Speaker 6: I'm probably going to get knocked the hell out. So anyway,
- 52:41Speaker 6: the way that this fight ends is one guy just
- 52:44Speaker 6: cold clocks the others. goes down, hits the ground, kind
- 52:49Speaker 6: of comes back to, and then just throws up on
- 52:53Speaker 6: the court. I'm like, so totally nuts. Starts dragging himself off,
- 53:00Speaker 6: and the other dude yells at him, yeah, that's right,
- 53:02Speaker 6: throw up, you little bitch. So just totally nuts. I'm like, okay,
- 53:08Speaker 6: that's got to be it. Like he cold clocked you,
- 53:11Speaker 6: called you a little bitch as you're dragging yourself off
- 53:13Speaker 6: the court in your own vomit?
- 53:15Speaker 9: No.
- 53:15Speaker 2: No.
- 53:15Speaker 6: My man gets to his feet. He looks at him
- 53:18Speaker 6: from across the court with the whole team between the toes,
- 53:21Speaker 6: and he goes, that's all right. I'll catch you in
- 53:24Speaker 6: the locker room, stab you to death. Yo, what? What
- 53:30Speaker 6: are we doing here? So, like, you know, these sound
- 53:34Speaker 6: like big words, and some of your listeners might be like, oh,
- 53:37Speaker 6: my God, what happened next?
- 53:39Speaker 2: Man, nothing.
- 53:39Speaker 6: We got down into the locker room, and those two
- 53:41Speaker 6: dudes dabbed each other up. We started talking about what
- 53:44Speaker 6: had happened in practice and what we were about to
- 53:46Speaker 6: do after because that's how college basketball works.
- 53:49Speaker 2: All right, man.
- 53:50Speaker 4: Talk to you later.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Hey, brother, let me explain something to you right now.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I don't know how long ago that was, but you
- 53:56Speaker 1: need to know this and I mean this. That stabbing
- 53:59Speaker 1: is still in the cards. It's still on the board.
- 54:04Speaker 3: That stab doesn't have a statute of limitations.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:07Speaker 1: It may take some alcohol to bring it out or whatever. Like,
- 54:09Speaker 1: dude realized right then and there that stabbing him was
- 54:12Speaker 1: probably not the best play. But his desire to stab
- 54:15Speaker 1: him has not gone away.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Now, granted, it's clear that he was given a concussion.
- 54:21Speaker 1: And so maybe that. But no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Don't you think this is this is not over. This
- 54:26Speaker 1: is not, no, no, no, no, no. I am going
- 54:29Speaker 1: to stab you. Hey, man, I don't want no parts.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Any dude that's willing to stab you, that's a real
- 54:35Speaker 1: man right there, boy. The problem with a gun is
- 54:39Speaker 1: anybody could be a killer with a gun. A knife,
- 54:41Speaker 1: you got to have it in you. Even to say
- 54:43Speaker 1: that word out loud.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:46Speaker 1: No, no, no, not me. No, sir. No, sir. But
