- 2:31Speaker 3: And Joe Parsons is a guy who's been here for

- 3:11Speaker 3: Good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Welcome to
- 3:14Speaker 3: our new abode.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Here.
- 3:15Speaker 6: These are some pretty fancy digs here.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Far too fancy for the for a guy from Logan
- 3:20Speaker 3: to be hosting the show. I could tell you that.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Great congratulations on the new studio, and congratulations to Joe
- 3:25Speaker 6: on his retirement.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he's thirty nine years.
- 3:28Speaker 6: That's a lot.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Couldn't have made it one more year.
- 3:30Speaker 6: I know, come on, make it even.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, man, the the person the OCD and
- 3:35Speaker 3: me doesn't like that I got to do one more year.
- 3:38Speaker 3: But anyway, we'll talk about that coming up a little
- 3:41Speaker 3: later on Tara. We have all heard the stories about
- 3:44Speaker 3: the issues with childcare, not only in West Virginia but
- 3:47Speaker 3: across the country. And you and I both know it's
- 3:50Speaker 3: a problem.
- 3:51Speaker 6: It is a big problem. And for those of you
- 3:53Speaker 6: just let me back up for a minute. You don't
- 3:55Speaker 6: know who Advantage Valley is what we do. We are
- 3:59Speaker 6: a region economic development organization that promotes investment, business attraction,
- 4:05Speaker 6: and retention in the Charleston and Huntington metro areas combined.
- 4:09Speaker 6: We kind of view ourselves as one market area. And
- 4:13Speaker 6: quite honestly, there's been a lot of success lately, and
- 4:17Speaker 6: we're not claiming credit for it, but there's been a
- 4:20Speaker 6: lot of success by the State of West Virginia and
- 4:22Speaker 6: our partners and others to attract new businesses in and
- 4:26Speaker 6: we're projecting that there's going to be about fifty three
- 4:28Speaker 6: hundred new manufacturing jobs coming into our region over the
- 4:32Speaker 6: next five, six, seven years. And you know, for every
- 4:34Speaker 6: manufacturing job, there's a spin off of indirect jobs. So
- 4:38Speaker 6: really we're looking at thousands of new jobs coming in
- 4:42Speaker 6: and thousands of new households. And we've got a childcare
- 4:46Speaker 6: problem because right now today, without all those new jobs
- 4:50Speaker 6: coming in, we lack about fifty three hundred childcare slots
- 4:54Speaker 6: in our region.
- 4:55Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 4:56Speaker 6: That's a lot. So then you compound that with all
- 4:58Speaker 6: the new jobs coming in, and we always hear employers
- 5:02Speaker 6: saying workforce, workforce, we need more workforce, and this is
- 5:06Speaker 6: one of the key barriers for people entering into the workforce.
- 5:10Speaker 6: So we at Advantage Rally are trying to think through
- 5:14Speaker 6: some solutions on how in our region we can help
- 5:16Speaker 6: solve that problem.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking to Aryl Ellis of Advantage Valley and
- 5:22Speaker 3: I'm interested in how exactly that you're going to go
- 5:26Speaker 3: about this because the jobs. I won't say the jobs
- 5:29Speaker 3: are the easy part, because they're not the easy part.
- 5:30Speaker 3: But sometimes it's those other things that in order to
- 5:35Speaker 3: and I know you and I last time you're on
- 5:36Speaker 3: a show, we talked about the lack of housing, of
- 5:39Speaker 3: housing for these work folks. Sometimes that can be just
- 5:42Speaker 3: as difficult as trying to get these manufacturers and these
- 5:44Speaker 3: job creators into the state.
- 5:46Speaker 6: That's right. I mean, we've identified housing, childcare, and transportation
- 5:50Speaker 6: as three barriers to trying to get people into the workforce.
- 5:53Speaker 6: So these are three areas that we're really working on,
- 5:56Speaker 6: you know, and this is not a problem. Childcare. The
- 5:58Speaker 6: lack of childcare is not a part problem for just
- 6:00Speaker 6: Advantage Valley, throughout the state, really throughout the country, but
- 6:04Speaker 6: throughout the state there's about forty one percent of children
- 6:08Speaker 6: throughout the state that don't have access to childcare children
- 6:11Speaker 6: under the age of six, and in our region it
- 6:14Speaker 6: ranges anywhere from about thirty percent of the camp of
- 6:18Speaker 6: the kids in certain counties like Kanan Cable all the
- 6:21Speaker 6: way up to ninety percent in Clay County. Of children
- 6:25Speaker 6: under the age of six do not have access to
- 6:27Speaker 6: childcare in Lincoln and Boone Counties and numbers around seventy
- 6:31Speaker 6: five percent to seventy nine percent. So obviously it's an
- 6:35Speaker 6: issue and one of the things. So there are there.
- 6:40Speaker 6: It's sort of like there's not any one silver bullet.
- 6:43Speaker 6: I think, you know, we all recognize we have to
- 6:45Speaker 6: be attacking this on all different levels. So I know
- 6:47Speaker 6: the legislature has considered things in the past, and they're
- 6:51Speaker 6: considering some bills currently that will help and for us
- 6:56Speaker 6: in our region, we wanted to number one, understand some
- 7:00Speaker 6: of the key issues that are keeping our existing childcare
- 7:02Speaker 6: providers from expanding. Some of them are closing. So we
- 7:06Speaker 6: number one, we want to understand for those who are
- 7:09Speaker 6: already here, what can we do to help them? And
- 7:11Speaker 6: number two, how can we help people think about maybe
- 7:14Speaker 6: opening childcare businesses. So those are the two strategies that
- 7:18Speaker 6: we're employing and so recently we completed focus groups with
- 7:24Speaker 6: about twenty four participants from throughout the region of providers
- 7:28Speaker 6: who are already in business and talk to them about
- 7:31Speaker 6: what are the issues that are their pain points, what
- 7:34Speaker 6: are their problems that they're having. One of the biggest
- 7:37Speaker 6: ones is staff retention. They're competing with just Target and
- 7:41Speaker 6: Sheets and all these other places that are now offering
- 7:44Speaker 6: fifteen seventeen dollars an hour, and so they've had to
- 7:47Speaker 6: really increase their wages and they're losing workforce to those
- 7:53Speaker 6: businesses because childcare is not always easy. And one of
- 7:57Speaker 6: the other things that we've discovered those focus groups since COVID,
- 8:02Speaker 6: there has been a big increase in behavioral issues among
- 8:06Speaker 6: children since post COVID. So now you've got childcare providers
- 8:11Speaker 6: who are short staffed and are stressed with dealing with
- 8:14Speaker 6: some of these behavioral issues and not always equipped to
- 8:17Speaker 6: deal with them, and it's causing a real problem with
- 8:20Speaker 6: staff turnover. And what that means is that when people
- 8:24Speaker 6: are leaving, when that workforce is leaving, that childcare provider
- 8:28Speaker 6: cannot open up as many slots as they are licensed for.
- 8:32Speaker 6: So we have providers that might be licensed for one
- 8:35Speaker 6: hundred slots but really they're only able to serve sixty
- 8:40Speaker 6: kids because they don't have the right staff ratio, and
- 8:43Speaker 6: this is becoming a bigger and bigger problem all the
- 8:45Speaker 6: way around. So these are some of the issues. And
- 8:48Speaker 6: then there are just some financial issues with regard to
- 8:51Speaker 6: the reimbursement rates and how they get reimbursed from the state.
- 8:55Speaker 6: There's some systems issues there, so we recognize that and
- 9:00Speaker 6: we I think have talked about our entrepreneurship program in
- 9:04Speaker 6: the past how we work with small businesses trying to
- 9:07Speaker 6: get up and running. So through our entrepreneurship program, we're
- 9:10Speaker 6: going to be targeting some resources to those existing childcare providers.
- 9:15Speaker 6: We heard a story about one provider, a proposed provider,
- 9:20Speaker 6: a woman who is going to open a childcare service
- 9:23Speaker 6: in her home, and you have to have a smoke detector.
- 9:27Speaker 6: So when she went to the health department and did
- 9:29Speaker 6: whatever she had to do to get licensed, they said, oh,
- 9:32Speaker 6: that smoke detector has to be hardwired by a licensed electrician.
- 9:36Speaker 6: You can't just do the yeah in your home. And
- 9:41Speaker 6: she's like, I don't have the money to hire a
- 9:43Speaker 6: licensed electrician, So she just quit her process and didn't open.
- 9:46Speaker 6: We can provide some funding, some mini grants to help
- 9:49Speaker 6: people overcome those kind of hurdles. Sometimes it's just small
- 9:52Speaker 6: things that you can help with. So through our entrepreneurship program,
- 9:55Speaker 6: we're going to do that. But then how do we
- 9:58Speaker 6: get people to open new facilities. It's a challenging industry
- 10:05Speaker 6: to be in because there's so many regulations and a
- 10:07Speaker 6: lot of different agencies you have to deal with. So
- 10:10Speaker 6: we have initiated a series of workshops where we bring
- 10:13Speaker 6: all those agencies together and we try to simplify an
- 10:17Speaker 6: understanding of how you would get open and to explain
- 10:20Speaker 6: to people what resources are out there to help them. Actually,
- 10:24Speaker 6: there are a lot of resources out there to help
- 10:27Speaker 6: childcare providers, and we want to make people aware of that.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Through our program. We offer business coaching, loans, technical assistance, money,
- 10:36Speaker 6: and mini grants. The State of West Virginia is working
- 10:40Speaker 6: with a company called Wonder School. They just came into
- 10:43Speaker 6: the state and they're providing business coaching, cash flow planning analysis,
- 10:48Speaker 6: and marketing assistance. And we have childcare resource and referral
- 10:53Speaker 6: agencies that have a ton of resources. So the point
- 10:56Speaker 6: is we're doing all these workshops. We want people to
- 10:59Speaker 6: come if they even have a mild interest and learn
- 11:02Speaker 6: about how because you can open something in your home
- 11:06Speaker 6: and serve six kids in your home, and that would
- 11:09Speaker 6: be great. I mean we you know, any any.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Number provider, I mean said that's six slots.
- 11:14Speaker 6: I had six slots potentially six families that can then
- 11:17Speaker 6: go to work. So and that's kind of a low
- 11:20Speaker 6: barrier to entry. So we're doing the workshops. The next
- 11:23Speaker 6: one is in Putnam County on April tenth at Area
- 11:26Speaker 6: thirty four, which is where the Chamber of Commerce is located,
- 11:30Speaker 6: at five thirty in the evening. So I hope people
- 11:32Speaker 6: will come and learn about it.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Talking to Cheryl Ellis from Advantage Valley of Dave Allen

- 11:48Speaker 3: goes into where you decide to have these things as
- 11:51Speaker 3: far as the communities go. I know you said this
- 11:53Speaker 3: one's going to be at Area thirty four, in Putnham County.
- 11:55Speaker 3: But what kind of work do you do to make
- 11:57Speaker 3: sure that you get these out to everybody?
- 11:59Speaker 6: Well, we our nine counties within our region, so we
- 12:02Speaker 6: will hold one in every county. We held one in
- 12:04Speaker 6: Jackson County last month. Knall County is going to be
- 12:07Speaker 6: in May, so there will be one in every county.
- 12:10Speaker 6: But we're doing twelve, so we're going to go. We
- 12:12Speaker 6: haven't decided whether we're going to double up in the
- 12:15Speaker 6: counties that have the larger population or double up in
- 12:18Speaker 6: the counties that have the greater need, So towards the
- 12:21Speaker 6: end of the year we'll make that decision. But there
- 12:23Speaker 6: will be three, repeat, repeat counties that we do towards
- 12:27Speaker 6: the end of the year.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And where can people learn more about these?
- 12:31Speaker 6: So go to our website. It's very easy to remember
- 12:33Speaker 6: Advantage Valley dot com and you will see a tab
- 12:37Speaker 6: up in the left side of the website for childcare.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Click on that and you'll see the information about where
- 12:44Speaker 6: all the workshops are scheduled and how you can register
- 12:48Speaker 6: to attend. If you don't register and decide at the
- 12:51Speaker 6: last minute to come, that's perfectly fine. It's just for
- 12:54Speaker 6: planning purposes.
- 12:55Speaker 3: We like to have you register what was the day
- 12:57Speaker 3: of the one in Puttnam County game, because that's the
- 12:59Speaker 3: first one you have April tenth.
- 13:00Speaker 6: The next one coming up is April tenth at five
- 13:02Speaker 6: thirty pm at Area thirty four, which is the Just
- 13:05Speaker 6: look up the Putnam County Chamber.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're coming, just for a point of reference,
- 13:09Speaker 3: if you're coming from the Charleston area and you get
- 13:11Speaker 3: off the Tays Valley, actually you hang a right right
- 13:13Speaker 3: across from Liberty Square. One of my favorite coffee shops
- 13:16Speaker 3: is in there. I'll get a plug in for Connie
- 13:18Speaker 3: with Putnam Provisions and Drip Coffee. They do a great
- 13:20Speaker 3: job in there. And thanks to Ashley offer Glance, you
- 13:23Speaker 3: know from the from the Putnam Chamber. She's the one
- 13:26Speaker 3: that alerted me to this to get in touch with
- 13:29Speaker 3: your folks, to get you to get you in here
- 13:30Speaker 3: to talk about that. So, I mean, it's great work
- 13:32Speaker 3: that you're doing. And I mean that's what Advantage Valley does.
- 13:36Speaker 3: You always do great work, but especially for this because again,
- 13:40Speaker 3: I mean West Virginia has suffered financially and suffered with jobs,
- 13:44Speaker 3: you know, not having enough jobs. Well now the jobs
- 13:47Speaker 3: are coming, but we got to have everything that goes
- 13:49Speaker 3: with the job, and that's sometimes, as I said at
- 13:52Speaker 3: the outset to Terrell, that can be just as important,
- 13:54Speaker 3: if not more so.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, And and there are two bills in
- 13:58Speaker 6: the legislature that are interesting bills. One would help deal
- 14:03Speaker 6: with the staff retention issue at childcare providers, and that
- 14:07Speaker 6: would allow people who work at childcare facilities to have
- 14:11Speaker 6: their children's childcare subsidized, so it would make it more
- 14:16Speaker 6: affordable for them to work at a facility and help
- 14:20Speaker 6: out there. And then the other is something it's interesting,
- 14:23Speaker 6: a model that we're trying out here in the state.
- 14:25Speaker 6: It's the tri share model, and that's where there will
- 14:29Speaker 6: be a tri party agreement between employers, the family, and
- 14:35Speaker 6: the state of West Virginia to split the costs of
- 14:39Speaker 6: childcare three ways for an employee. So there's some legislation
- 14:43Speaker 6: going through the House through the House right now. And
- 14:47Speaker 6: I mentioned Wonder School, the organization the state is partnering with,
- 14:51Speaker 6: and they are pushing that as well with their in
- 14:53Speaker 6: the counties they're working. So we're trying to tackle it
- 14:56Speaker 6: on all areas, and it's going to take everybody to
- 14:59Speaker 6: really try to contribute to.
- 15:00Speaker 3: The effort Advantage Valley dot com. Very simple website to

- 17:38Speaker 3: hodgerom State Republican Party coming up a little bit later on.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And anytime I see this many people in the new studio,
- 17:43Speaker 3: I'm automatically thinking this is an intervention. This is what's
- 17:47Speaker 3: going on here, This is exactly what this is. This
- 17:49Speaker 3: kind of frightens me a little bit. Joe Parsons, will
- 17:52Speaker 3: you have a seat here, force please? And it didn't matter.
- 17:54Speaker 3: We got plenty of saints there, any any of them,
- 17:57Speaker 3: any of them's give Joe Parsons longtime general manager here
- 18:02Speaker 3: and he's held a bunch of other titles within the company.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Now you don't need that puns.
- 18:07Speaker 10: It's fine.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I'm not gonna open up the phone line to mess
- 18:09Speaker 3: up here because if we open up the phone lines,
- 18:12Speaker 3: we might get angry people calling, So we're not gonna
- 18:14Speaker 3: do that. A little bit later on, Joe Parsons is
- 18:16Speaker 3: announcing his retirements. How long have you been here, Jim?
- 18:21Speaker 4: Too long?
- 18:23Speaker 11: Now?
- 18:24Speaker 4: I have been this may. I'm in my fortieth year.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 18:29Speaker 11: I won't make it, since today's my last day. But
- 18:31Speaker 11: I started February third, nineteen eighty six.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Okay, and talk about the changes just a few since
- 18:39Speaker 3: February third, eighteen eighty six.
- 18:41Speaker 11: Well, we didn't own this building or these stations when
- 18:43Speaker 11: I started with the company. I started with Metro News,
- 18:46Speaker 11: and our offices were up at what was called at
- 18:49Speaker 11: the time the Players Club, up on top of the
- 18:51Speaker 11: hill near where mcdonnaugh Caverton was located, and we bought
- 18:56Speaker 11: these stations. I think in nineteen ninety one my office
- 18:59Speaker 11: moved down here. It's been here ever since.
- 19:02Speaker 3: What was it that led you to come to work here?
- 19:05Speaker 2: Jim?
- 19:05Speaker 3: It's a it's a I've heard the story before too
- 19:07Speaker 3: many times. It's a kidd, It's a fascinating story.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It really is well, it's my wife's first cousin's husband.
- 19:16Speaker 3: This is going to require paper, guys.
- 19:18Speaker 11: Yes, worked worked for West Virginia Radio Corporation, and I
- 19:24Speaker 11: had moved back from Knoxville, Tennessee, and was working for
- 19:26Speaker 11: a collection agency, which was an interesting.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Career, bustin kneecaps and whatnot.
- 19:32Speaker 11: It kind of okay just on the phone, though, but
- 19:34Speaker 11: I really wanted to get into sales. And we were
- 19:37Speaker 11: at my wife's grandfather's house one weekend and I made
- 19:41Speaker 11: the comment that I'm looking for a sales job, and
- 19:44Speaker 11: Gary Merten said, I'm looking to hire somebody. So I said, well,
- 19:48Speaker 11: how do I get that job? And he said, well,
- 19:50Speaker 11: you need to talk to Dale Miller Monday morning in Morgantown.
- 19:54Speaker 11: So he proceeded to call Dale and and Dale.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Said, yeah, be here a day o'clock.
- 19:59Speaker 11: Well, I lived in Ripley still do, and so I
- 20:03Speaker 11: left the house at five o'clock in the morning to
- 20:05Speaker 11: make sure I got to Morgantown by eight o'clock. Walked
- 20:09Speaker 11: into Dell's office and he looked at my resume and
- 20:13Speaker 11: politely said, what makes you think you can sell radio?
- 20:17Speaker 11: And I told him I said, well, I sold vacuum
- 20:19Speaker 11: cleaners for a couple of years, and I'd walk into
- 20:21Speaker 11: a complete stranger's house and walk out with two thousand dollars,
- 20:24Speaker 11: so I can probably sell whatever you have to sell.
- 20:27Speaker 11: And he said, when do you want to start? So
- 20:31Speaker 11: that was the beginning and this is the end.
- 20:35Speaker 2: What led you to.
- 20:36Speaker 3: This decision to want to step down at this time?
- 20:39Speaker 11: I'm old, that's the first thing. Now, you know, my
- 20:43Speaker 11: father told me one time, you'll know when it's time,
- 20:48Speaker 11: and and we'll get emotional it's time. It's been a
- 20:53Speaker 11: good run. This is a great company. I've had the
- 20:56Speaker 11: pleasure of working with great people, like everybody in this room,
- 21:03Speaker 11: Hoppy kerchival Dale Miller, now George Pelletteer. It's a great company.
- 21:08Speaker 11: It's been a lot of fun. I'm gonna miss I'm
- 21:11Speaker 11: not gonna miss the work. I'm gonna miss you guys.
- 21:15Speaker 3: And this is quite a good staff we have here.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I mean, I've only been here for five years, but
- 21:20Speaker 3: you look around this room, uh, and there's got of
- 21:23Speaker 3: people that's been here for for a while. For a while, I.
- 21:27Speaker 11: Spend a lot more time with these people than I
- 21:29Speaker 11: have my own family.
- 21:30Speaker 3: And that's a nature of work. Yes, that's a nature
- 21:32Speaker 3: of work. Who wants to say something? Anybody come on,
- 21:39Speaker 3: not you, I'm holding you for them, anybody else, all right,
- 21:43Speaker 3: Dale Cooper, Coop, come on now.
- 21:45Speaker 12: Come in congratulations Joe. Yeah, man, Joe has been one
- 21:49Speaker 12: of my mentors here for a long time, not always
- 21:51Speaker 12: as the primary general manager. That's come and gone a
- 21:54Speaker 12: few times here, but of the people that I look
- 21:57Speaker 12: to in my career as mentors that's helped me along
- 21:59Speaker 12: in this in the profession, in this job, Joe's at
- 22:01Speaker 12: the top of the list for that. There's a lot
- 22:04Speaker 12: worse people that you could monitor or model yourself over
- 22:08Speaker 12: when it comes to how you conduct yourself and how
- 22:10Speaker 12: do you conduct business than Joe Parsons. And I'm glad
- 22:13Speaker 12: you're part of the legislator as well. To be honest
- 22:15Speaker 12: with you, Joe.
- 22:15Speaker 11: I'm going to say something here, Folks listening, you're going
- 22:18Speaker 11: to hear a lot of lies from this point on.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Dale Dale Cooper's talking about the legislature. I'm sorry.
- 22:27Speaker 11: You said it. Dale Cooper's one of the smartest men
- 22:30Speaker 11: I know, and I haven't been his mentor.
- 22:32Speaker 4: He's been one of mine.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Oh goodness, all right, I need I do need to
- 22:36Speaker 3: put the headphones on for a minute there, if you would.
- 22:37Speaker 3: All right, Ryan, if you're ready, go ahead. Hello, you're
- 22:42Speaker 3: on the air, sir, go ahead.
- 22:44Speaker 10: Good morning Dave, and certainly good morning happy Joe. Nice
- 22:48Speaker 10: to be talking to you on your on your writing
- 22:52Speaker 10: off into the sunset day. They're in Charleston. You know,
- 22:56Speaker 10: you and I have gotten an opportunity to become friends.
- 23:00Speaker 10: We've worked through a lot, a lot, a lot of
- 23:03Speaker 10: opportunities and things there in Charleston, and I've been around
- 23:08Speaker 10: for a long time like you, and I have to
- 23:11Speaker 10: say that there is no better character in a man
- 23:16Speaker 10: or a woman in a leadership role ever in my career.
- 23:20Speaker 10: You always try to do the right the right thing.
- 23:23Speaker 10: You always try to take the high road, and your
- 23:28Speaker 10: honesty and integrity are just unquestioned.
- 23:31Speaker 7: Uh.
- 23:32Speaker 10: It's been it's been a great five years, and I
- 23:35Speaker 10: wish you and and Stacy all the best. And I've
- 23:40Speaker 10: figured out a way that we really don't have to
- 23:41Speaker 10: change anything other than first names. They're in Charleston because
- 23:46Speaker 10: we're replacing you with the Parsons, with your son Jared,
- 23:50Speaker 10: which I'm sure has to be a very proud moment
- 23:54Speaker 10: for you, Joe and wish you all the best, my friend.
- 24:00Speaker 11: Thank you very much, George. And I am proud of
- 24:02Speaker 11: Jared and what he's done and where he is now.
- 24:06Speaker 11: And as I told the listeners, you're going to start
- 24:09Speaker 11: hearing a bunch of lives.
- 24:10Speaker 4: And there was the first one.
- 24:12Speaker 11: Now, George, George, thank you very much. You and I
- 24:14Speaker 11: had a private conversation about my decision to retire a
- 24:18Speaker 11: while back, and I'm in every word of it.
- 24:20Speaker 10: Yeah, well it's I wish you all the best and
- 24:23Speaker 10: we'll see you soon.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Thank you, George Pellett here bringing this gentleman right here,
- 24:28Speaker 3: This is the one that George was just referring to.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Because we don't have to change the last name, at
- 24:32Speaker 3: least in the office is Jared Parsons will be taken
- 24:34Speaker 3: over for the old man here.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 24:36Speaker 3: All right, it's your time to say what don't say,
- 24:39Speaker 3: whatever's on your mind. Okay, just keep it, keep it
- 24:41Speaker 3: to radio.
- 24:41Speaker 13: Okay, sure, I'll keep it short. This days about him.
- 24:45Speaker 13: I remember growing up.
- 24:48Speaker 5: We lived.
- 24:48Speaker 13: We grew up in Ripley, which is where my mom
- 24:51Speaker 13: and dad still live, and we would listen to AM
- 24:57Speaker 13: radio as far as we could from Charleston to and
- 25:01Speaker 13: we listened to this radio station here, and I always
- 25:04Speaker 13: wondered why, you know, he wanted to listen.
- 25:06Speaker 4: To static all the time. It's just like constant static.
- 25:11Speaker 13: But as I got older and spent more time here,
- 25:13Speaker 13: actually in this building. I worked here when I was
- 25:16Speaker 13: in college at West Virginia State and got to know
- 25:19Speaker 13: a lot of these people as well. But now I've
- 25:23Speaker 13: been with the company for thirteen years, and luckily I've
- 25:26Speaker 13: learned a lot from my father. He's obviously meant toward
- 25:30Speaker 13: me over the last decade. And it's bittersweet to leave
- 25:37Speaker 13: the Eastern Panhandle, which is where I was before today.
- 25:40Speaker 13: But it's really I'm honored to following his footsteps, try
- 25:47Speaker 13: to uphold the stain integrity that he is. He has
- 25:52Speaker 13: built here in this building, and I hope I do
- 25:54Speaker 13: you proud?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Fred Persinger, That's curious. When's when's tea time?
- 25:59Speaker 14: Dare yes, when I'm looking for it. You don't count
- 26:05Speaker 14: anymore than you're done. You're finished. You're finished. Joe and
- 26:09Speaker 14: I go back. I've been here now twenty four years,
- 26:14Speaker 14: and Joe Parsons, we went through. I worked at Beckley
- 26:20Speaker 14: Radio Station. In fact, I was one of the very
- 26:21Speaker 14: first affiliates Elementro News Radio Network in Beckley, and so
- 26:28Speaker 14: I knew the company well. But things happen and companies
- 26:32Speaker 14: get sold, and I wasn't happy. And I called Happy
- 26:36Speaker 14: and I said, hey, I'm ready to because they tried
- 26:38Speaker 14: to hire me several times away from the other company.
- 26:42Speaker 14: And I finally said, okay, I'm ready to go, and
- 26:44Speaker 14: Joe drove to Beckley. We ate lunch at Bob Evans.
- 26:50Speaker 14: I think it's the last time I've ever eaten at
- 26:51Speaker 14: Bob Heavens.
- 26:52Speaker 3: But well, you're getting ready to here in a minute,
- 26:55Speaker 3: we go ahead full circle.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Hey, all right, that's good.
- 26:59Speaker 14: But Joe, how I feel about him and Stacy and
- 27:02Speaker 14: his family. And it's been a great, great time for me.
- 27:07Speaker 14: I have learned a lot from the younger mister Parsons.
- 27:11Speaker 14: And you'll be missed. There's no doubt you will be missed.
- 27:15Speaker 10: Well.
- 27:16Speaker 11: I appreciate that Fred, and Fred was one of the
- 27:21Speaker 11: hardest sales jobs I ever had to make. He told you,
- 27:23Speaker 11: he said no multiple times. But I found out that
- 27:28Speaker 11: his company was being sold and we reached out one
- 27:30Speaker 11: more time and he said, yeah, let's talk. So and
- 27:33Speaker 11: the rest is history. One of the best in the world,
- 27:38Speaker 11: Fred Perseiger, all right, thank you, pardon.
- 27:41Speaker 15: Hey, all right, congratulations all right, And you know, Joe's
- 27:49Speaker 15: a great manager because he strikes the balance between you know,
- 27:55Speaker 15: having a heart right and yes, and and also having
- 28:00Speaker 15: the having to make the tough decisions too. And so, uh,
- 28:04Speaker 15: I appreciate the newsroom, you appreciate appreciates his support all
- 28:07Speaker 15: these years and most of him staying out of the way,
- 28:10Speaker 15: which is a great thing.
- 28:12Speaker 11: Uh.
- 28:12Speaker 15: But you know, we're going to miss him in the building, uh,
- 28:15Speaker 15: you know, and just uh just you know, seeing him
- 28:18Speaker 15: walk down the hall and talking to him and actually
- 28:22Speaker 15: not talking so much about the business, but talking about
- 28:25Speaker 15: the family, what's going on, how you doing, those type
- 28:29Speaker 15: of things. Just some per you know, just some personal
- 28:30Speaker 15: conversations too over the years. So congratulations, enjoy it. I
- 28:36Speaker 15: don't know why you lost that bet and had to
- 28:37Speaker 15: run for the legislature, but anyway, hopefully don't be a stranger.
- 28:43Speaker 15: Now that we have all these new all this new
- 28:45Speaker 15: studio and everything.
- 28:46Speaker 3: He said he wanted to stay until we got the
- 28:47Speaker 3: studio complete, and so the studio is, you know, ninety
- 28:51Speaker 3: nine point nine ninety nine percent finished. So he's ready
- 28:53Speaker 3: to he's ready to tee off now, Jeff Jenkins from
- 28:56Speaker 3: the news team, I appreciate you very much. Well, Joe,
- 28:58Speaker 3: to look around here.

- 29:10Speaker 3: in here, and that is the Mayor of the City
- 29:13Speaker 3: of Charleston, Mayor Amy Shulter. Good One, Mayor good One,

- 34:16Speaker 3: You are known as quite the peanut butter fudge efficient audit.
- 34:19Speaker 18: It's pretty good, if I do say so myself. And
- 34:21Speaker 18: I heard that Joe Parsons was retiring, and I said,
- 34:24Speaker 18: what better day to bring in some peanut butter fudge
- 34:26Speaker 18: and share with everybody.
- 34:27Speaker 4: What a big crowd here today.
- 34:28Speaker 3: What better way to send him off into a diabetic calm.
- 34:31Speaker 3: So don't let RFK Junior know that you did that.
- 34:34Speaker 18: Well yeah, I uh am more shaming of West Virginia's Yeah, all.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Right, We're going to talk about that a little bit late.
- 34:41Speaker 3: But thanks for thanks for coming in today. Can I
- 34:45Speaker 3: say this studio is really cool. This is the first
- 34:47Speaker 3: time I've been in here since you guys redid it.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I don't know who did the.
- 34:50Speaker 18: Work here, but looking around the room, the craftsmanship is
- 34:54Speaker 18: off the charts.
- 34:55Speaker 4: This is really really neat.
- 34:57Speaker 3: That would be Ken Tennant and his crew of pick
- 35:00Speaker 3: and a couple of others folks that did this, Fred
- 35:02Speaker 3: and there's a few more that did this. Yeah, it's uh,
- 35:04Speaker 3: it's pretty good.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Pretty So are we on video?
- 35:07Speaker 3: No, we're not on video. Okay, we will be eventually,
- 35:09Speaker 3: but we're not on video. All right, So, but but
- 35:11Speaker 3: I appreciate you dressing up anyway. Oh and sure, I
- 35:13Speaker 3: figured you probably head to the capital.
- 35:15Speaker 4: I am all right.
- 35:16Speaker 3: So what you mentioned it I did at the top
- 35:18Speaker 3: of the uh. And you're you know, at top of
- 35:20Speaker 3: the statement, you're you're a very fit guy. I mean,
- 35:22Speaker 3: I know you take care of it despite the fact
- 35:24Speaker 3: you eat peanut butter fudge, but you also work out
- 35:26Speaker 3: and do all that other stuff.
- 35:27Speaker 4: I make it. I don't need a whole lot of it.
- 35:28Speaker 4: I make it. I do sample it that that that
- 35:30Speaker 4: you're supposed to do.
- 35:32Speaker 3: What did you make of the RFK junior comments uh
- 35:36Speaker 3: to Governor Morrissey and Martinsburg on Friday.
- 35:39Speaker 18: Well, Uh, it's it's it's an interesting it's an interesting occurrence.
- 35:44Speaker 18: I mean, look, uh, I thought the comments were a
- 35:48Speaker 18: little I'll use an old fashioned word, they were a
- 35:50Speaker 18: little uncouth. I think you should operate in maybe a
- 35:55Speaker 18: little bit better social graces. But I have to hand
- 35:58Speaker 18: it to Governor Morrisey. He took it in stride. I
- 36:02Speaker 18: think he took it very well. But it's probably comments
- 36:06Speaker 18: that should be saved for a private conversation. But on
- 36:11Speaker 18: the other hand, the governor has gone public with his
- 36:15Speaker 18: response to it, and I've noticed that he's been doing
- 36:17Speaker 18: his mountaineer walk each day, and actually there's other people
- 36:20Speaker 18: who are get involved in doing that, so I think
- 36:22Speaker 18: that's good. I think I give credit to the governor
- 36:24Speaker 18: for taking it in stride, because I thought some of
- 36:28Speaker 18: RFK Junior's public comments quite frankly, they were a little
- 36:32Speaker 18: bit disrespectful.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Well, and as I did a little davitatorial about this yesterday,
- 36:36Speaker 3: you can check that out on Dave Island Radio and
- 36:38Speaker 3: at Dave A seventy on X. You know, you don't
- 36:40Speaker 3: know what went on behind the scenes. I mean, he
- 36:42Speaker 3: could have told him, hey, I'm going to say this
- 36:45Speaker 3: and you play along with it. You don't know what
- 36:47Speaker 3: their relationship. I mean, people that would hear some of
- 36:50Speaker 3: us in this building talking to each other will thank you.
- 36:52Speaker 12: Guys.
- 36:53Speaker 3: People think Dave Wilson and I hate each other because
- 36:55Speaker 3: the way we go back and forth, we're actually very
- 36:56Speaker 3: good friends. So my point is is you don't always
- 36:59Speaker 3: necessarily you know, know what goes into people's private relationships
- 37:04Speaker 3: and whether they're able to you know, handle that sort
- 37:08Speaker 3: of thing.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I absolutely agree.

- 37:16Speaker 3: to plug your podcast here real quick.
- 37:18Speaker 18: Yeah, I viewpoint with Tony Hodge. It's a podcast that
- 37:20Speaker 18: I do. You can follow it on, find it on
- 37:22Speaker 18: all podcasting platforms Apple, Spotify, et cetera. And I talk
- 37:26Speaker 18: about politics, faith, worldview issues, how our worldviews affect our politics,
- 37:32Speaker 18: our culture, things like that. It's very popular. I have
- 37:35Speaker 18: listeners all over the country. Most of them are in
- 37:37Speaker 18: West Virginia, but I'm in like forty eight to fifty states,
- 37:40Speaker 18: and so yeah, go look it up. It's it's fun.
- 37:43Speaker 18: I'll be doing a show probably later today. We're gonna
- 37:46Speaker 18: be it's gonna be very West Virginia centric talking about
- 37:48Speaker 18: the legislature things like that. So yeah, viewpoint with Tony Hodge.
- 37:53Speaker 3: I know this is going to be very unprofessional, but
- 37:55Speaker 3: it's a way. Do do you see an extra telephone laying
- 37:57Speaker 3: around over there anywhere zerophone in here. Joe pars is
- 38:00Speaker 3: already showing his age with his retirement. He apparently lost
- 38:04Speaker 3: his phone somewhere. So so we're looking for a let's see,
- 38:09Speaker 3: I don't uh, I do I do not see it, Steve,
- 38:11Speaker 3: I do not. I do not see it. Thank you,
- 38:13Speaker 3: thank you very much. Right, we're looking for shows phone.
- 38:16Speaker 3: I love live radio, I love live.

- 38:27Speaker 3: Valley dot e edu. Let's talk about the session so far.
- 38:30Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 38:31Speaker 10: What do you think overall?
- 38:32Speaker 18: Well, you know it's you know, it's it's a session.
- 38:36Speaker 18: You know, it's a session. I mean there's been there's
- 38:38Speaker 18: been some good things. Uh, there's been some foolishness. Now
- 38:41Speaker 18: look foolishness. So look, I'm a political guy. You know
- 38:45Speaker 18: when you invite me in, you're gonna get politics. You know,
- 38:47Speaker 18: you have your other guests that talk about very good things.
- 38:50Speaker 18: I'm gonna come on here and talk about politics, and
- 38:52Speaker 18: that's why you invite me on. Yeah, there's been some foolishness.
- 38:54Speaker 18: I mean some of the things that the Democrats are
- 38:56Speaker 18: doing over there, uh just really just out. I don't
- 39:01Speaker 18: want to call them liars, but but they're shirt certainly
- 39:04Speaker 18: not being truthful in a lot of things that they
- 39:05Speaker 18: say and do. For an example, Kaylee Young this past week,
- 39:09Speaker 18: she's a delegate here in Kanaal County, she accused the
- 39:12Speaker 18: Republican legislature of not voting to freeze electric rates, which
- 39:18Speaker 18: isn't true. What they voted to not do was to
- 39:21Speaker 18: discharge a bill out of committee. And discharging a bill
- 39:24Speaker 18: out of committee is that's also uncouth. We'll use that
- 39:28Speaker 18: word again. It's something that doesn't follow procedure. You want
- 39:30Speaker 18: these bills to go through committee, to have the proper
- 39:32Speaker 18: vetting that they do that they deserve, and discharge them.
- 39:36Speaker 18: Discharging them straight to the floor is very very rare.
- 39:39Speaker 18: It hardly ever happens. But she took to social media
- 39:44Speaker 18: and implied something that wasn't quite true and said that
- 39:48Speaker 18: the Republicans voted to not freeze rates.
- 39:50Speaker 4: It's just not true.
- 39:50Speaker 18: They voted to not discharge the bill, and so it's
- 39:53Speaker 18: untruths like that that get the public confused and people
- 39:56Speaker 18: only hear half truths or or not the truth at all,
- 39:59Speaker 18: and it infuses people. And I think that's unfortunate because
- 40:02Speaker 18: there is a lot of good things going on in
- 40:04Speaker 18: the legislature.
- 40:04Speaker 4: There's been a.
- 40:05Speaker 18: Foster bill, a foster parent bill, excuse me, a foster
- 40:08Speaker 18: care bill that was heavily debated on the floor last
- 40:13Speaker 18: week and it passed. It's a really good bill. It's
- 40:15Speaker 18: not a be a solve everything bill, but it's one step.
- 40:19Speaker 18: You know, you have these bills that take steps in
- 40:21Speaker 18: certain directions. We've had some economic development bills. We've got
- 40:24Speaker 18: that short line railroad bill. I mean, there's been there's
- 40:28Speaker 18: been several little things. There's not some big omnibus bill,
- 40:31Speaker 18: but there's been several little things that have been really good.
- 40:34Speaker 18: But you know, you're going to have the opposing political
- 40:36Speaker 18: side put out silliness just to try to I guess,
- 40:41Speaker 18: get headlines as what they're doing.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Don't you think though, And I'm not going to try
- 40:44Speaker 3: to put you in a bad position here, but I
- 40:46Speaker 3: mean every session there's a little silliness on both sides.
- 40:50Speaker 18: Well, you know, we're politicians and politicians have big egos.
- 40:55Speaker 18: You wouldn't run for office if you didn't have a
- 40:57Speaker 18: big ego exactly. And so you've got a hundred thirty
- 41:00Speaker 18: four people down there, and they all think that their
- 41:02Speaker 18: view is the right view. And so when you have
- 41:04Speaker 18: that and you have all these different personalities, you know,
- 41:07Speaker 18: you will get some silliness. But just the blatant lies
- 41:13Speaker 18: that come from the left in this state that we
- 41:17Speaker 18: see and I'm not just making this up. You can
- 41:19Speaker 18: go to Kayla Young's her public Facebook page and she
- 41:21Speaker 18: says what I just told the listeners, and so you
- 41:24Speaker 18: can go look at it for yourself, and it's just
- 41:25Speaker 18: not true. And so when you say things like that
- 41:28Speaker 18: that aren't true, it confuses the public and it's just
- 41:31Speaker 18: not good.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Talking again with Tony Hodge, Tech says, the GOP potus
- 41:37Speaker 3: have perfected out right lies, let alone have truths.
- 41:42Speaker 18: Well, I mean, I don't know that the texture would
- 41:45Speaker 18: have to give a specific example. Look, everybody in politics,
- 41:49Speaker 18: they're going to do things to promote their view of
- 41:53Speaker 18: what they want to see done. But I mean, if
- 41:56Speaker 18: a texture call it, you know, if they want to
- 41:57Speaker 18: call intertext in and give a specific example, that's fine.
- 42:00Speaker 18: But you know, this reminds me of what I see
- 42:03Speaker 18: going on in politics.
- 42:04Speaker 4: It reminds me.
- 42:04Speaker 18: You remember the old story of the blind men and
- 42:06Speaker 18: the elephant, And so you have five or six blind
- 42:10Speaker 18: men and you have an elephant in the room, and
- 42:12Speaker 18: they go up to the elephant, and they'll touch each
- 42:14Speaker 18: part of the elephant. And one blind man will touch
- 42:16Speaker 18: the trunk and he'll say, oh, well, this is a
- 42:18Speaker 18: this is a snake, This is a flexible snake. Another
- 42:20Speaker 18: blind man will touch the leg and say, no, no,
- 42:22Speaker 18: I think this is the trunk of a tree. And
- 42:25Speaker 18: another blind man will touch the side of the elephant
- 42:26Speaker 18: and say, no, this is a big, strong wall. And
- 42:29Speaker 18: then another blind man will touch the tail and say, no, no,
- 42:32Speaker 18: I think this is a rope. And then another one
- 42:34Speaker 18: will touch the tusk and say, well, no, I think
- 42:35Speaker 18: this is a spear. Well, they're all blind. The only
- 42:38Speaker 18: person that has the full picture of what it actually
- 42:41Speaker 18: is is the person who's not blind and can see
- 42:42Speaker 18: the whole picture at once. And that's that it's an elephant,
- 42:45Speaker 18: it's not all of these other things. And that's what
- 42:47Speaker 18: I see going on in politics, especially on the democratic side,
- 42:49Speaker 18: is they're giving the public only a partial truth and
- 42:53Speaker 18: keeping them blinded to the full truth.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Storright again with Tony Hodge. I want to remind you

- 46:11Speaker 3: Let's go, We'll do it, Deck, says Dave. A super
- 46:13Speaker 3: duper majority leader is blaming the single Democrat for their
- 46:16Speaker 3: inability to get anything done. Shows real leadership and integrity.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Hopefully Kayla is enjoying the maggoteers this morning.
- 46:24Speaker 18: Well look, I mean, this isn't the first time she's
- 46:28Speaker 18: been dishonest this session. And you know, quite frankly, I've
- 46:31Speaker 18: been pretty quiet about it because you know, you hate
- 46:34Speaker 18: to just you hate to have to name names and stuff.
- 46:35Speaker 18: But it's it's starting to compile, and so I just
- 46:38Speaker 18: think it's as we can handle it. Talking about the supermajority. Look,
- 46:42Speaker 18: we can handle it. Not only do we have I
- 46:44Speaker 18: mean we have the numbers, we have the voters behind us.
- 46:47Speaker 18: The thing that I'm concerned about is the public perception
- 46:50Speaker 18: and this perception that they put out there that just
- 46:52Speaker 18: is untrue. That's the part that really bothers me. The
- 46:54Speaker 18: legislators can handle it, the governor can handle it. This
- 46:57Speaker 18: you know, she's no problem, But it's the public. You know,
- 46:59Speaker 18: you want the truth going out to the public, and
- 47:01Speaker 18: that's my concern.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Well, in full disclosure, anytime I always offer voices on
- 47:06Speaker 3: the other side. So anytime that the delegate young and
- 47:08Speaker 3: she's a regular on the show, is we'll always welcome
- 47:10Speaker 3: on the show to refute anything you say.
- 47:12Speaker 18: Yeah, Now, in all fairness, and I will tell you this,
- 47:14Speaker 18: in all fairness, I'll talk about her public positions.
- 47:18Speaker 19: Her.
- 47:18Speaker 18: As a person, I like, I've sat down, we've eaten together,
- 47:22Speaker 18: not alone, but you know with the other people, I guess,
- 47:26Speaker 18: and so as a person I like her, and we've
- 47:30Speaker 18: always been very kind and polite to one another. But
- 47:32Speaker 18: you know, when you're a public official and you put
- 47:34Speaker 18: out public statements. You know, it's open, and those are
- 47:37Speaker 18: public statements that I thought were very dishonest and I
- 47:39Speaker 18: don't like them.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Texas Dave Tony's right. The Democrats have been lying for
- 47:43Speaker 3: years of voters are sick of this, and that's why
- 47:45Speaker 3: the Democratic Party is done in our states.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Well, it's easy, I mean, the evidence is all around us.
- 47:50Speaker 18: West Virginia forcefully rejects the Democratic Party mantra.
- 47:54Speaker 4: They reject their party platform.
- 47:56Speaker 18: I mean, the only place that the Democratic Party even
- 47:58Speaker 18: has a slight foothold is in the county that we're
- 48:00Speaker 18: sitting in right now, in Kanawa, and maybe a little
- 48:02Speaker 18: bit around the university up in Mond County, and that's
- 48:05Speaker 18: about it. Everywhere else they're completely and totally rejected. So again,
- 48:09Speaker 18: we're not afraid of them. We're not scared of them,
- 48:10Speaker 18: but we do want the truth going out to the public.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Text says Wow, a Trump supporter calling out Dams for lying.
- 48:15Speaker 3: That is truly rich, says a texture tex shows anything
- 48:20Speaker 3: going on with the teachers. I've seen where they suspended
- 48:22Speaker 3: the rules to move bills out of committee that should
- 48:25Speaker 3: have been dad. Some shady crap coming down close to
- 48:28Speaker 3: the last days tex says the Senate is our only
- 48:31Speaker 3: defense against the guy from New Jersey. That brings me
- 48:34Speaker 3: to my next point. We've heard that term thrown out there,
- 48:37Speaker 3: the gentleman from the Jersey by Republicans that have said that,
- 48:40Speaker 3: that have said that you're worried about any division between
- 48:44Speaker 3: the governor versus the legislature.
- 48:47Speaker 18: Well, it would be silly for me to come on
- 48:50Speaker 18: here and say that there's not people who have issues,
- 48:54Speaker 18: because clearly there are and it's in the public. But
- 48:56Speaker 18: I will say, going back to my earlier comment, this
- 48:58Speaker 18: is politics, and politics is a place for big time egos,
- 49:01Speaker 18: and you have people who think that their way is
- 49:03Speaker 18: the right way.
- 49:04Speaker 4: But what I.
- 49:04Speaker 18: Would encourage in what I what I strongly even uh
- 49:09Speaker 18: practice myself, is a level of respect. You know, on
- 49:14Speaker 18: all sides. I think, I think all sides deserve that
- 49:17Speaker 18: the legislature deserves their due respect, and the governor deserves
- 49:21Speaker 18: his due respect.
- 49:22Speaker 4: And I think when when our.
- 49:24Speaker 18: Public officials get their egos out of the way and
- 49:27Speaker 18: put the people of West Virginia first, the right solutions
- 49:30Speaker 18: and the right uh avenues will be followed in order
- 49:35Speaker 18: to do what's best for West Virginia.
- 49:36Speaker 4: So put the people first, and you're always going to
- 49:38Speaker 4: be on the right side.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Texas, Dave, do we do we know the bills were
- 49:41Speaker 3: passed that the majority of the people were against. This
- 49:43Speaker 3: was done by Republicans. It's all about them and not
- 49:47Speaker 3: about the people.
- 49:48Speaker 18: I don't understand that comment. I mean, how does this
- 49:50Speaker 18: person know that the majority of people were against a
- 49:53Speaker 18: certain bill. I mean, that's just an anecdotal comment. I mean,
- 49:55Speaker 18: give me some give me some evidence. But we have
- 49:58Speaker 18: we have elected a legis and they in our republic,
- 50:02Speaker 18: and in our republic they represent the views of the people.
- 50:05Speaker 18: If you don't like what they're doing, you know, you're
- 50:07Speaker 18: certain you have the right to speak your voice at
- 50:11Speaker 18: the ballot box. But we've been doing this at the
- 50:12Speaker 18: ballot box now since twenty fourteen, and each time the
- 50:15Speaker 18: Republican majority is growing and growing.
- 50:18Speaker 3: And there's no sign. I mean, if you look at
- 50:20Speaker 3: it from a political standpoint and well, step away from politics,
- 50:25Speaker 3: if you just let's look at the movement now, I understand.
- 50:28Speaker 3: But if you try to be objective about it, there
- 50:30Speaker 3: is no way this is changing anytime soon. Oh no,
- 50:32Speaker 3: there's no way. And even on the national front, I mean,
- 50:38Speaker 3: the DIM's got a lot of issues. I mean, they
- 50:39Speaker 3: really really not saying the Republicans don't. But the DIM's
- 50:42Speaker 3: got a lot of issues. And this red wave that
- 50:45Speaker 3: started before Donald Trump is it's not going to go
- 50:48Speaker 3: away anytime soon in my opinion.
- 50:50Speaker 18: Well, and I don't want to get out ahead of
- 50:52Speaker 18: my skis or get too puffed up here. But you know,
- 50:54Speaker 18: I look here in this room and I see you.
- 50:56Speaker 18: There's TJ who's stepped in over here. He's going to
- 50:58Speaker 18: chime in in just a minute. I look over here
- 51:00Speaker 18: and see the producer, all of us sitting in this room.
- 51:03Speaker 18: This will be a Republican state for the rest of
- 51:05Speaker 18: our lives.
- 51:06Speaker 3: That's a fact I would agree with that. Let me
- 51:08Speaker 3: bring in TJ Meadows.
- 51:10Speaker 4: TJ.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Of course we talk line. We're about to wrap up
- 51:12Speaker 3: the show. You agree with Tony Hodge's statement.
- 51:15Speaker 22: Yeah, certainly in my lifetime. They have a long way
- 51:18Speaker 22: to go. The Dems have a long way to go.
- 51:19Speaker 22: I've said, if the Democrats want to get pace and
- 51:22Speaker 22: get some traction in this state, they'll become uber focused
- 51:26Speaker 22: on business and economic development, which you know moderate conservatives
- 51:29Speaker 22: like myself are really focused on. That's their role. If
- 51:32Speaker 22: they want to take it. That's their way to gain
- 51:34Speaker 22: voter share. In my opinion, I don't know if they'll
- 51:35Speaker 22: take it or not. Do you think I'm not think
- 51:37Speaker 22: that it's both of these questions we wrap up. I asked
- 51:39Speaker 22: this question on the state wide show Cheap Plug.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Metro News Midday with Amanda Baron and myself powered by
- 51:44Speaker 3: Selango Law. Coming up noon to three today, is the
- 51:47Speaker 3: modern Is the classic West Virginia Democrat dead?
- 51:51Speaker 2: Yes?
- 51:52Speaker 18: Yes, I mean not literally dead, but that ideology is dead.
- 51:56Speaker 4: It's gone. It won't come back in our life.
- 51:58Speaker 3: But I was talking about the old school Democrats, the
- 52:00Speaker 3: more conservative Democrats. Is that movement totally dead? Yeah, it's over.
- 52:04Speaker 3: It's over.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Their Republicans now our number show TJ real quick.
- 52:07Speaker 22: Give me ten seconds. Not If they focus on what
- 52:08Speaker 22: I said, then they have a way forward. But if
- 52:11Speaker 22: they don't, yeah, they're dead. All right, Tony, Always pleasure
- 52:14Speaker 22: to have you in here.
- 52:15Speaker 3: Thanks for the fuddy joy, thanks for the just don't
- 52:17Speaker 3: don't tell RF T right, we'll keep a secret.
- 52:19Speaker 4: We don't want you shamed, all right.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Coming up on the show tomorrow.
- 52:23Speaker 22: Uh.
- 52:23Speaker 3: The ongoing issues with traffic and construction in Kanas City
- 52:27Speaker 3: seem to be getting a little bit better. We're gonna
- 52:29Speaker 3: talk to counsel with Chad Robinson about that happy retirement.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Joe Parsons, I'll see at noon today. So then have
- 52:34Speaker 3: fun and love somebody, don't.
- 52:49Speaker 17: You see it?
- 52:49Speaker 2: At six point five FM, Charleston At four point five
- 52:52Speaker 2: Cross Lanes, led UVRC Media Station. We are proud to
