- 0:17Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast, Our carbonek Boston Road Go to
- 0:20Speaker 1: Free Tech.
- 0:21Speaker 2: January twenty ninth, twenty twenty six, Nebraska basketball suffers their
- 0:29Speaker 2: first loss.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Of the year.
- 0:34Speaker 2: But I think we're in better off than we were
- 0:39Speaker 2: before we played the game. As weird as that sounds,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm saying that from just I see
- 0:47Speaker 2: some stuff on just bracketology and meticals that like before
- 0:52Speaker 2: we played the game, we're actually moved up in things
- 0:56Speaker 2: because of the way that we played, given the situation
- 0:59Speaker 2: out there, have gone all of that. So we'll talk
- 1:01Speaker 2: a lot of basketball here. We'll talk to the Michigan game,
- 1:03Speaker 2: talk the Illinois game. The Husker football schedule has been
- 1:09Speaker 2: released for twenty twenty six, and that kind of get
- 1:13Speaker 2: a new.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Phone, yeah, a fun day yesterday.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Don't don't forget your Apple password or okay, well this
- 1:22Speaker 4: is or your password to get into your phone the
- 1:27Speaker 4: numbers on it. Let's just say, okay, I use my face.
- 1:32Speaker 4: I need so much that the one time I need it,
- 1:34Speaker 4: I cannot remember what it is.
- 1:39Speaker 1: It's unbelievable, Austin, isn't it.
- 1:43Speaker 4: But yeah, oh yeah, no, I can I cannot remember
- 1:47Speaker 4: what the numbers I have to get into my old
- 1:49Speaker 4: phone is so long story short is I was gonna
- 1:55Speaker 4: just pay a hundred bucks to get my phone reset.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I can't remember my Apple password is and their security security.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I think they're just lazy, says they take week and
- 2:04Speaker 4: a half to a week to.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Get you new passwords.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I'm like, you know what it.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I just bought a whole new phone.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Wow.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like, I can't go. I could go
- 2:16Speaker 4: a couple days out the phone, I cannot go week
- 2:18Speaker 4: and a half. But yow, there's there's no way you can't.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I love a HOWD just like all this is.
- 2:31Speaker 2: He just thinks it's normal and he's just blaming Apple
- 2:33Speaker 2: for just being bad.
- 2:35Speaker 1: No, you don't forget your numbers on your You cannot forget.
- 2:41Speaker 2: What you have to explain to yourself how you forget
- 2:45Speaker 2: your past code.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I I just haven't entered it in so long. Like
- 2:51Speaker 4: the one time I have to, it's it's like, oh
- 2:53Speaker 4: what is it?
- 2:56Speaker 2: So?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Insane? But yeah, not cheap.
- 3:02Speaker 5: We'll just say that, yeah even comprehend, don't even try.
- 3:12Speaker 5: What do you do with your old phone?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Well, once I can get back into it. Now I
- 3:18Speaker 4: have two phones, so I have a burner phone now
- 3:21Speaker 4: completely different member than this, and yeah, two lines, now.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Let's uh.
- 3:37Speaker 1: The Rascal basketball.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I did not watch the first half because we had
- 3:45Speaker 2: a basketball game of our own and I was trying
- 3:47Speaker 2: to go watch it on replay and go radio silent.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And airplane mode at all.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But of course the game is on stupid Peacock, and
- 3:56Speaker 2: Peacock is dumber and dumb, and you can't watch from
- 3:59Speaker 2: the beginning. And so I get home there's like ten
- 4:04Speaker 2: to twelve minutes left in the game, and I watched
- 4:06Speaker 2: it from there, and I will just start off. I'm
- 4:10Speaker 2: sure we can just grow up and moan about Peacock.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Peacock's the Big ten. Come on, you gotta be a
- 4:16Speaker 2: little better, Like there's this is so many bad things
- 4:19Speaker 2: about it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And if you're gonna put a big.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Game, a top five game, on TV, don't put it
- 4:26Speaker 2: on Peacock. Like the announcers were shit, they're production horrible.
- 4:33Speaker 2: They don't even know who rank Mass is, Like if you're.
- 4:36Speaker 5: Right know, oh my god. I was like again, not
- 4:40Speaker 5: Rank Mass. It was like, I don't know. You're trying
- 4:45Speaker 5: to zoom in on I don't Yeah, that was dumb. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 5: it was bad. I mean it did air on NBC
- 4:53Speaker 5: Sports Network on YouTube TV, which was at least better
- 4:57Speaker 5: tod of have the sound issues. I don't know if
- 4:58Speaker 5: you guys heard about the the Peacock audio issues for
- 5:02Speaker 5: a lot of people, but a lot of people are
- 5:04Speaker 5: having sound issues at the beginning of the game. It's
- 5:08Speaker 5: a bad look.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I got an MC Sports Network too. I didn't even
- 5:11Speaker 4: know it's on there. But but yeah, so I should
- 5:14Speaker 4: have told you that Hunter when you said Peacock doesn't rewind.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I figured it out later, like towards the
- 5:20Speaker 2: end of the game, and then it was too late
- 5:22Speaker 2: because I already started watching.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But yeah, I had to throw that out there because
- 5:28Speaker 1: I think that's just ridiculous. It's stupid.
- 5:33Speaker 4: I mean, it's smart for them in the sense of
- 5:36Speaker 4: like getting more subscribers, like you drapped that game on
- 5:40Speaker 4: there than freaking well, I just say wreckers Northwestern like
- 5:42Speaker 4: people who.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Peacock. That's that's about.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm not saying anything for Peacock. I was thinking it's
- 5:48Speaker 1: done for the Big ten.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's smart for Peacock when you can get a
- 5:53Speaker 2: top five game, no ship. Yeah, but we're saying, don't
- 5:57Speaker 2: the Big Ten or whoever's in charge of the TV schedule,
- 6:00Speaker 2: don't don't do that, or Peacocky you have to you can't.
- 6:06Speaker 2: If you're going to put put on a production, gonna
- 6:08Speaker 2: be a little bit better. I mean we had some
- 6:10Speaker 2: football games on there right too. But anyways, that that
- 6:15Speaker 2: was that was the complain of the day there.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But but the game itself.
- 6:24Speaker 2: A lot of good things and and you never want
- 6:27Speaker 2: to take moral victories, as you heard some of the
- 6:29Speaker 2: players say in the post game, but a lot of
- 6:32Speaker 2: good things to come out of that, going on the
- 6:34Speaker 2: road at the Chrysler Center.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And in Ann Arbor and.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Really going toe to toe with Michigan the entire game,
- 6:44Speaker 2: you know, losing at the end. Initial thoughts that that
- 6:50Speaker 2: that's my takeaway. You know, it's a lot of good things.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Now the unfortunate piece of it is probably could and
- 6:57Speaker 2: should have won that game and deserves.
- 7:00Speaker 5: The second part it was we led for thirty seven
- 7:02Speaker 5: minutes of the game. We were in control and our offense,
- 7:09Speaker 5: you know do doo the one we didn't even mention
- 7:14Speaker 5: yet that Rank mast did play. Brandon Fragran didn't play,
- 7:16Speaker 5: so we were missing, you know, two off the bench.
- 7:20Speaker 3: What did our screw you out there?
- 7:21Speaker 4: To Robert Washick or whatever his name is for saying
- 7:23Speaker 4: Rank Mass is gonna play, he had no idea. Yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 4: so yeah, that's that's some beef right there.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Anyway, it was just it was just sad how it ended.
- 7:39Speaker 5: You know, the whistles were flying, and we lost on
- 7:43Speaker 5: free throws basically in the second half, which you know,
- 7:46Speaker 5: looking at the size of Michigan, I texted you guys
- 7:49Speaker 5: when the game started. I mean, Michigan just looked like
- 7:52Speaker 5: giants compared to us. I was blown away how small
- 7:56Speaker 5: our team looked without Rank Mast. I mean, I knew
- 7:59Speaker 5: we were a small team, but it man, and I
- 8:02Speaker 5: also know we're you know, red medical, red shirty doogie.
- 8:05Speaker 5: But it was we did way better than I thought
- 8:09Speaker 5: we were going to. I was just so upset what
- 8:13Speaker 5: we lost because we just controlled the game. We were
- 8:16Speaker 5: going to flow all. We had good looks. You know,
- 8:19Speaker 5: there were a couple end the game. JaMarcus Lawrence had
- 8:22Speaker 5: an open three right up the middle that was way off.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I guess that would have been to tie, right, Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: we were down.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Yeah, to tie. So I mean I was really sad.
- 8:35Speaker 5: It wasn't really until noon yesterday that I was like, Okay,
- 8:40Speaker 5: I'm good. Like we played them. We lost that three
- 8:43Speaker 5: by three on the road. We had the opportunity.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Wasn't it weird? Though, Like I was the same way.
- 8:49Speaker 1: It hurt like a football loss.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Yeah I did.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I had that feeling going to bed that night, like.
- 8:58Speaker 1: It hurt. Like I was like, whoa, I felt this way.
- 9:02Speaker 2: About basketball for a while, and in a way then
- 9:05Speaker 2: I thought there is still a lot of positives. But
- 9:07Speaker 2: it's like, damn, I turned this game on and we
- 9:11Speaker 2: were up eight, like in ten minutes left, like we
- 9:14Speaker 2: could have won this sucker.
- 9:15Speaker 5: I remember the moment in the game. They'll let you
- 9:18Speaker 5: talk deck even though I'm scared too. The moment I
- 9:23Speaker 5: intended knew we were gonna lose was when they when
- 9:26Speaker 5: they called the foul on Hoiberg on that three pointer.
- 9:29Speaker 5: I was like, okay, if that's if that's how this
- 9:33Speaker 5: is gonna like this is like you can just feel
- 9:34Speaker 5: the moment changed right there, and you know it's like,
- 9:37Speaker 5: if that's how we're gonna refit, we're not gonna win
- 9:39Speaker 5: because we're smaller and bigger physical teams. I wouldn't say
- 9:43Speaker 5: they were more physical, but bigger teams in a physical game,
- 9:46Speaker 5: they're gonna get the whistle war. And so just kind
- 9:48Speaker 5: of been like, oh, this is We're not gonna be
- 9:52Speaker 5: able to sustain this. But Beck, what were your opinions?
- 9:56Speaker 4: Well, you you were talking about the production is terrible
- 9:58Speaker 4: for Top time. Actually even the thing was for a
- 10:00Speaker 4: Top five matchup, is there. They were horrible that game.
- 10:03Speaker 4: They're so inconsistent and so many makeup calls. It's that
- 10:07Speaker 4: movie screen against Burke was one of the worst calls
- 10:09Speaker 4: I've ever seen in my life. But okay, that's that's
- 10:11Speaker 4: enough about the refs. The the whole second half was
- 10:17Speaker 4: they had so many freaking layups and and bur K
- 10:20Speaker 4: was the one that that dude cannot freaking make anything
- 10:26Speaker 4: any easy shots.
- 10:27Speaker 3: It's crazy. He drives me nuts.
- 10:29Speaker 4: And for the love of God, can we can we
- 10:32Speaker 4: start a protest for him not to never shoot three again?
- 10:36Speaker 3: That dude, That.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Dude he hit that crazy three at the beginning of
- 10:40Speaker 5: the game that was like contested fade away to the side.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Yeah he can, he can make those.
- 10:47Speaker 4: It's like the ones that he's you're the he's covered
- 10:50Speaker 4: or like has no shot going and he makes those
- 10:52Speaker 4: bumman's wide open, there no shot things going in. It's
- 10:54Speaker 4: a harsh break I've ever seen in my life. That
- 10:56Speaker 4: dude drives me nuts. I don't get it. But yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 4: but speaking of their size, I just saw it's yesterday.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Did you see. I didn't even know this when I
- 11:06Speaker 3: was watching it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: You see, you can't want the tip to start that
- 11:08Speaker 4: game against the freaking seventy seventh order.
- 11:10Speaker 3: That's that's crazy. I didn't know.
- 11:13Speaker 4: I didn't think about it when it happened. That's that's
- 11:16Speaker 4: another crazy thing. And this, this was probably the.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Best I really said. It happened. I said, oh, Ship weekend,
- 11:22Speaker 5: I was like, oh, Ship, we ain't messing around.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, do you want to take one clip for the
- 11:27Speaker 2: entire season to summarize our season?
- 11:31Speaker 1: That right there is is how our season's.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Kind of gone so far so that your takeaways the
- 11:38Speaker 2: rest suck.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Sucks, doesn't suck. Drives me crazy. Oh okay, it doesn't suck.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Okay, I would put him, I'd almost put.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Him on the bad side.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Now he's not.
- 11:50Speaker 5: And yeah, he's a necessary evil though I love I
- 11:55Speaker 5: know he is.
- 11:56Speaker 4: So all my rankings of players coming out of that game,
- 11:59Speaker 4: Burke dropped, Kale jumped.
- 12:02Speaker 5: That's kill played like a dog.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, as he mentioned the players out, that's the really
- 12:10Speaker 2: encouraging piece. And that's where when I started watching, from
- 12:12Speaker 2: about eight to ague, there's ten minutes left, we were
- 12:15Speaker 2: up eight on I was like, how.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Are we up?
- 12:20Speaker 2: How did this happens? I went back and watched some
- 12:24Speaker 2: of the pieces there.
- 12:25Speaker 5: To start, we shut it.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And we're gosh, we're so we were so limited offensively,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I started watching this. When I was watching,
- 12:36Speaker 2: I think, think what we had on the court, just
- 12:38Speaker 2: from a three point threat standpoint. You got Price, who
- 12:46Speaker 2: obviously shot a lot of threes. The ones he were shooting, uh,
- 12:52Speaker 2: in the last ten minutes, he could not get a
- 12:54Speaker 2: clean look. He got one kind of clean step back
- 12:56Speaker 2: against a big but but nothing was clean. It was
- 12:59Speaker 2: all very rushed, very and he's made some of those,
- 13:02Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, but it was tough. Michigan made
- 13:05Speaker 2: it very tough on him. JaMarcus Lawrence obviously going off
- 13:09Speaker 2: in the first half. He couldn't even get a shot up.
- 13:11Speaker 2: And JaMarcus is not a he's a point guard. He's
- 13:15Speaker 2: not a He can create his own shot kind of,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but he's not I don't know, size wise, he's not
- 13:22Speaker 2: like I'm saying to say, like Bryce Williams, where he
- 13:24Speaker 2: can go create his own three point shot.
- 13:25Speaker 1: He can't do that. So I was like, how.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Are we ahead like that? Yeah, you're gonna let Barrica
- 13:31Speaker 2: shoot it. Yeah, you're gonna probably let Cale and Cale
- 13:35Speaker 2: almost maximize what he could do, which is very impressive.
- 13:39Speaker 2: So yeah, like how limited we were offensively. I was
- 13:42Speaker 2: so surprised where we were at in this game, and
- 13:46Speaker 2: that again speaks volume to the system that that we're
- 13:50Speaker 2: in and we run with Hoiberg.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's very very impressive.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, if you feel like, if you have either Rank
- 13:56Speaker 2: or Frager offensively, we are perfectly fine and in that
- 14:03Speaker 2: game and probably win defensively.
- 14:05Speaker 5: You know, I think you could tell yeah like that
- 14:09Speaker 5: at the end of the game, it's like, we just
- 14:10Speaker 5: need another type of offense that is a three point
- 14:13Speaker 5: because the shooter, like, yeah, we need already need someone
- 14:17Speaker 5: that you could get it into the pain, that could
- 14:19Speaker 5: operate enough to draw a defender and give your your
- 14:22Speaker 5: shooter a little more time with the edge. We just
- 14:24Speaker 5: need one work person, which would be Franker dragging in
- 14:27Speaker 5: or Ranked doing a little post game.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But that's what That's what made it very encouraging.
- 14:34Speaker 2: And yeah, the system speaks for itself, but it just
- 14:37Speaker 2: seemed like we were so easy to guard, but yet
- 14:39Speaker 2: we were still getting stuff off of it, and.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Against the number three team on the road.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Like all those things combined is is like, whoa this
- 14:50Speaker 2: this team could actually do something. The one once that
- 14:54Speaker 2: I saw we went from plus seven fifty before the
- 14:56Speaker 2: game to make the final four from a betting standpoint
- 14:59Speaker 2: to plus five hundred post game.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Yeah, put your money down, boys, your down. I'm gonna
- 15:05Speaker 4: bet it just because if I can. I don't know
- 15:07Speaker 4: if I if I'm if I can find it just
- 15:09Speaker 4: just because they have money on it. But but I
- 15:13Speaker 4: think I can confidently say that was the best loss
- 15:15Speaker 4: in Nebraska basketball. Okay, I'll how can put it?
- 15:19Speaker 5: No, there is a I mean yeah, okay, yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 4: The best loss in Nebraska basketball history. Oh, I don't
- 15:29Speaker 4: know how to put it though.
- 15:32Speaker 5: In the season that mattered, that's the.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Yeah, coming coming out, how you felt I guess about
- 15:39Speaker 4: the team going forward?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, most encouraged loss.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Ye, most Yeah, most encouraged loss in the basketball history,
- 15:46Speaker 4: because because I I seriously think if they had rank
- 15:48Speaker 4: or Frager, they win that game by ten plus.
- 15:51Speaker 5: I mean, because yeah, you had Jerry Garcia played ten Well, okay,
- 15:54Speaker 5: Leo Leo Curtis, Leo Curtis. Have you ever heard it?
- 15:57Speaker 4: Oh?
- 15:57Speaker 5: Good god, Oh good god. I don't know.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Man.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not saying I was so impressed.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not saying put him in the rotation. But
- 16:05Speaker 5: he came in there and held his own against number three.
- 16:08Speaker 5: It's so hard to do, Like, yeah, he hasn't played
- 16:11Speaker 5: all year. He comes in, There's a seven foot three
- 16:14Speaker 5: center that he's on, and he's I mean, he's guarded
- 16:16Speaker 5: perimeter players. I was. I was very impressed for just
- 16:20Speaker 5: coming cold, and.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I was most impressed defensively how he was able to
- 16:24Speaker 2: come in and hold his own. That with our rotation
- 16:27Speaker 2: in our system that we do, I was very impressed
- 16:29Speaker 2: that he was able to.
- 16:31Speaker 1: He looked like he looked like a rotational player.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, why why did Dak say o? God, what
- 16:37Speaker 1: was he worried about?
- 16:39Speaker 4: He's pretty good his offensive on offensive when he dribbled
- 16:44Speaker 4: at all, it was like, good God, do you not
- 16:45Speaker 4: put that? Do not put the ball on the floor.
- 16:47Speaker 5: I don't disagree. There was one point where he came
- 16:49Speaker 5: up to the court and I was like, yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Just just anytime you put the ball on the floor,
- 16:56Speaker 4: it's like, oh god, this this is not gonna end well.
- 16:58Speaker 4: But other than that, I guess it's not his job,
- 17:01Speaker 4: like no, but but it was like, I can't trust
- 17:05Speaker 4: this guy to do He.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Was the only person on the court that looked bigger
- 17:08Speaker 5: than Michigan. H yeah, but you know as big, so
- 17:12Speaker 5: I was. I was very impressed. But I know garcias
- 17:18Speaker 5: it's with Rake, you feel a lot. But Tim is
- 17:20Speaker 5: to Rake versus Tim is to Jared Garcia.
- 17:23Speaker 1: What's going on with Garcia?
- 17:25Speaker 5: I don't know. He had that great game as illinoy
- 17:28Speaker 5: and he has not done anything since.
- 17:31Speaker 3: No, he can't. He can't do it.
- 17:32Speaker 4: He can't score or anything.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Shoot.
- 17:35Speaker 4: No, and he and he was confident commonly shooting threes,
- 17:38Speaker 4: and I was I wasn't like Burking when like, oh god,
- 17:40Speaker 4: do not shoot that. I was confident in him making
- 17:42Speaker 4: him But now it's he's I think he's completely lost
- 17:45Speaker 4: all his confidence.
- 17:47Speaker 5: A three point percentage the price did this game?
- 17:50Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:51Speaker 3: This game?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Yeah, there's there's a difference in that just
- 17:58Speaker 4: a little little bit. I do think price, which which
- 18:02Speaker 4: I get when I did, it was forcing shots a
- 18:04Speaker 4: little bit too much.
- 18:04Speaker 5: There we were on a drive. We were like four
- 18:08Speaker 5: minutes without scoring. It's like, okay, we gotta we gotta
- 18:11Speaker 5: start going.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That's what I was saying.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I think he knew.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I think Hoiberg knows. I think those they how else
- 18:19Speaker 2: were we going to score like that? That's what was hard.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I was walking. I get they were rushed, but I
- 18:25Speaker 1: was like, what else are we gonna do? What else
- 18:27Speaker 1: were we got?
- 18:29Speaker 5: We were undersized, We didn't have any like even if
- 18:32Speaker 5: we had, you know, a bigger guy down low, like
- 18:37Speaker 5: here's undersize, here's not way those battles. You can't drive
- 18:39Speaker 5: it as well because they're they're just bigger. They're big athletes.
- 18:43Speaker 5: They're keeping with you when you're driving.
- 18:44Speaker 6: You.
- 18:45Speaker 5: It impacted how we rebounded the ball because you know
- 18:47Speaker 5: it's hard to rebound three play shots. Plus we're all
- 18:50Speaker 5: so smaller. Yeah, it's amazing that we almost that's the
- 18:55Speaker 5: we should have won. We had it.
- 18:57Speaker 1: That's the frustrating part.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And and you want to talk we really all we've
- 19:02Speaker 2: talked about besides Dak has been moral victories. Right, you
- 19:07Speaker 2: want you, you got you should you should win that
- 19:09Speaker 2: game with the situation that we had, it would have
- 19:14Speaker 2: been pretty awesome and pretty sweet. And and I I
- 19:17Speaker 2: this is coming too from watching the night before Duke
- 19:20Speaker 2: beat just whoop.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But I think it was Louisville.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I think I was watching watching them and I was like,
- 19:27Speaker 2: there's no way we can play with dukes, like this
- 19:29Speaker 2: is crazy. Look at these athletes, look at these players.
- 19:32Speaker 2: We'd get killed. And I'm like, but I guess we'll
- 19:34Speaker 2: see what happens against Michigan and oh now ranks out.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Oh we almost beat him. Still that that's why he
- 19:44Speaker 2: makes you feel like, okay, like this team should go
- 19:48Speaker 2: somewhere postseason wise, and and I mean winning a tournament game.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Not going to say it's a lock, but it really
- 19:58Speaker 2: should happen this year, and who knows where this could go.
- 20:02Speaker 5: So I mean, I don't it's not one of those
- 20:05Speaker 5: things where I feel like we could do we could
- 20:06Speaker 5: play three Michigans in a row. But correct, yes, you know, yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 2: That was the other thing we haven't mentioned that I
- 20:16Speaker 2: felt like was very eye opening. Was our depth just
- 20:19Speaker 2: dropped off because obviously it's an injury, so like he
- 20:23Speaker 2: just he just felt like we tired out and wore
- 20:25Speaker 2: out at the end.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Actually, Dusty May said that for Michigan.
- 20:29Speaker 2: He said it just felt like because of their injuries
- 20:31Speaker 2: and healthy we finally got to their legs. They're in
- 20:37Speaker 2: the second half, and I completely agree with that statement,
- 20:39Speaker 2: which they got tired.
- 20:42Speaker 1: This sucks. You don't want to ever make an excuse
- 20:44Speaker 1: for it either. But I don't know. Again, I don't
- 20:47Speaker 1: want to give more of it. It's only been saying positivity.
- 20:49Speaker 1: But you know, you win this game. I think we're
- 20:52Speaker 1: I don't even know what we're doing well.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's tough to critique the game because
- 20:57Speaker 5: at the end of the game, I mean, we lost
- 20:59Speaker 5: because a foul shooting. You know, they weren't hitting shots.
- 21:04Speaker 5: They went like three minutes without getting a field goal either,
- 21:07Speaker 5: and we had way more steels. I mean, they're turn
- 21:09Speaker 5: the ball all over the place for them, yeah, eleven
- 21:15Speaker 5: And like you know, we lost essentially on rebounding fowls,
- 21:19Speaker 5: which we're not gonna I'm not gonna blame the refs.
- 21:23Speaker 5: But there were some opinions out there, not also non
- 21:27Speaker 5: Nebraska fan opinions out there about the repend of the game,
- 21:30Speaker 5: how it went.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I wanted that charge.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I thought I thought that was a pretty clear charge too,
- 21:35Speaker 2: that Sam took on their go ahead bucket. That was
- 21:38Speaker 2: the one that I just said, Man, if you're a
- 21:40Speaker 2: rep and you're going back and you're watching your own
- 21:42Speaker 2: film and you're watching that play, you're going yeah, I
- 21:44Speaker 2: fucked that up.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Yeah yeah. It was just bad being it down the end.
- 21:52Speaker 5: But you know, we had the shot at the end
- 21:55Speaker 5: of the game to ty it, so we missed it.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Jamar started the game incredibly hot, and then again they
- 22:02Speaker 5: all just got tired and cooled off and shots from falling.
- 22:06Speaker 5: But oh man, I wanted it so bad. I had
- 22:12Speaker 5: no hope, and then I had so much hope, and
- 22:13Speaker 5: then I had no hope again. What's that three point
- 22:16Speaker 5: foul happened? And it was just so sad.
- 22:19Speaker 4: There's There's another good thing about this game is that's
- 22:23Speaker 4: every game this year that the second half defense has
- 22:26Speaker 4: been just nuts. They can come out of the locker
- 22:28Speaker 4: room and they get they somehow forced everybody to fall
- 22:31Speaker 4: for those traps down baseline every every team, and the
- 22:34Speaker 4: Michiganers just didn't panic every time they got stuck there,
- 22:37Speaker 4: and they'd usually throw it out and do bad pass
- 22:39Speaker 4: or whatever. But I thought that was insane how good
- 22:42Speaker 4: their second and a half defense was, and their first half
- 22:44Speaker 4: was too.
- 22:45Speaker 3: But michiganers just making tough shots.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But that's that's the funny part about our defensive scheme
- 22:51Speaker 2: is you can either just completely avoid it, which is
- 22:54Speaker 2: what Illinois did the first time we played him in
- 22:58Speaker 2: ate Under We're kind of spoke to that of we're
- 23:00Speaker 2: not even to try to post them, We're not even
- 23:01Speaker 2: gonna try to go onto.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Then there's an alternati approach.
- 23:03Speaker 2: They know we're going to do our thing and we're
- 23:05Speaker 2: going to be better athletes and beat it.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Michigan kind of took that approach because they do have.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Taller, bigger, more athletic players, and yet worked at times
- 23:18Speaker 2: and other times they exploited it. But for the most part,
- 23:21Speaker 2: it it just stemys a team like that has a
- 23:24Speaker 2: bunch of athleticism and talent. We've seen it with Purdue
- 23:27Speaker 2: with their bigs year after year. It takes it takes
- 23:29Speaker 2: it out of the out of the equation defensively or
- 23:33Speaker 2: for their offense, your defense, it takes it out of
- 23:35Speaker 2: the equation. The low post game, anything coming from the
- 23:38Speaker 2: base side. So that's why so I mean, and you
- 23:41Speaker 2: talk about all these horrible assistant coach hires that we've
- 23:46Speaker 2: had in.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Football year over year, and I mean Nate Lessner for.
- 23:52Speaker 2: The higher of a decade, I mean higher of the century.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, we had Defensively, they're seven foot three guy,
- 24:05Speaker 5: I only had ten points. Like, I mean, that's pretty good.
- 24:10Speaker 5: When you're tallest player, you have bear k out there,
- 24:12Speaker 5: and then outside of that, your next tallest players price
- 24:15Speaker 5: at six foot seven, and.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Then you don't need tall players to run this defense.
- 24:20Speaker 2: You just need smart, quick, agile, toughest nose guys.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That's what they that's what we have.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Yeah, it was again, you know, we're just talking about
- 24:31Speaker 5: good things because we barely lost. You know, it was
- 24:34Speaker 5: literally that close. We were out rebounded by twelve.
- 24:38Speaker 4: I mean it was, which I feel like that's good.
- 24:42Speaker 4: I feel like that's that's a good margin. With how
- 24:44Speaker 4: what size difference was and everything. I don't I don't
- 24:47Speaker 4: know what the defensive offensive rebound difference was, but but
- 24:50Speaker 4: I didn't feel like I Michigan was just like raking
- 24:52Speaker 4: in offensive rebounds all the time like they probably should
- 24:55Speaker 4: have been with the size difference.
- 24:56Speaker 5: It was we had seven, they had nine.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Yes, that's which that's crazy how much I was like,
- 25:04Speaker 4: I was never like, God, they're they're killing us on
- 25:07Speaker 4: the boards.
- 25:09Speaker 5: I don't no. I mean the things that happened on
- 25:12Speaker 5: the boards, is that all those those fouls? Yeah, the game,
- 25:15Speaker 5: it was every rebound that we were getting called for something.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Which what you totally expect with the with the two
- 25:23Speaker 4: players being out in the size difference, and we're just
- 25:25Speaker 4: gonna be it's gonna kill us eventually with the vowels
- 25:28Speaker 4: and that they got in the bonus really earn that
- 25:29Speaker 4: second half and that killed them too.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Yep, moving forward, the we have ten games up in
- 25:36Speaker 2: our schedule, So yeah, that loss sucks a lot of
- 25:39Speaker 2: encouraging things. Uh, here's what can't have stretch for the
- 25:44Speaker 2: spiral into more losses. Everything this team is shown this
- 25:49Speaker 2: year does not indicate that that will happen. You know,
- 25:53Speaker 2: we obviously were on a hot streak. You're on you're
- 25:55Speaker 2: on a roll, You're a winning game after game after game,
- 25:57Speaker 2: and now you take your first loss. Uh in a
- 26:00Speaker 2: way that you know, in a weird way that actually
- 26:03Speaker 2: felt feels good, feels like you shouldn't have lost it.
- 26:06Speaker 2: But a lot of positives like we've been saying. So
- 26:09Speaker 2: now we play Illinois at home on Sunday in a
- 26:13Speaker 2: game that team Rankings has that has about a fifty
- 26:16Speaker 2: to fifty chance to win, and then we have nine
- 26:19Speaker 2: other games left in our schedule. We go to Rutgers,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and then we have Purdue at home the next couple.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Team Rankings has us overall at twenty seven and four
- 26:30Speaker 2: to finish the year on I guess, how do you
- 26:37Speaker 2: guys feel about the rest of the schedule. I think
- 26:40Speaker 2: you feel like there's some almost lock wins that we
- 26:43Speaker 2: should not lose at all. I have a little bit
- 26:47Speaker 2: hesitation on how we could respond to this, but not much.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I mean there's in the back of my mind, I'm like,
- 26:54Speaker 2: come on, just don't let this happen.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Don't don't have us finished a year going.
- 27:02Speaker 5: I mean, do you think that happened?
- 27:04Speaker 1: Could?
- 27:05Speaker 5: But I could? I mean Rank will be back by
- 27:09Speaker 5: Illinois in theory because he just had the flu. Fraker
- 27:12Speaker 5: will probably be back. Malinoy's game time decision, so we'll
- 27:15Speaker 5: be back to full health barring injury. I really do
- 27:20Speaker 5: feel like this had lost for as a team, like
- 27:25Speaker 5: it probably fires them up more like I obviously they
- 27:28Speaker 5: wanted to stay undefeated, but it's like, no, like, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 5: we just showed you that we can go toe to toe,
- 27:35Speaker 5: like we're not We're not gonna step off the gas,
- 27:40Speaker 5: and so I mean, I feel like we're gonna fish
- 27:42Speaker 5: pretty strong. Illinois does kind of scare me because they
- 27:44Speaker 5: figured some things out since we last played them. That
- 27:47Speaker 5: freshman who had like I mean when we last played
- 27:50Speaker 5: it was kind of his coming out party, but he's good. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 5: he's real freaking good. So they've kind of figured some
- 28:03Speaker 5: things out to the last long so I won't be
- 28:04Speaker 5: surprised with hostelingly.
- 28:07Speaker 3: But which which that's not in the world either.
- 28:11Speaker 5: No here, that.
- 28:13Speaker 1: One's at home.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I feel like we're to the point now weld whatever
- 28:16Speaker 2: game at home And you want to talk about the
- 28:18Speaker 2: crowd too impacting refs at Michigan, like it's the thing.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Sorry, like, and I think.
- 28:25Speaker 2: We get calls at home too, so like, I think
- 28:27Speaker 2: that should also help us.
- 28:30Speaker 5: Frank mast is twenty nine to one in the vault.
- 28:33Speaker 5: It's white out too, so.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Oh wow it don't don't try to buy tickets for
- 28:38Speaker 4: that game. Holy hell, I was. I was talking to
- 28:41Speaker 4: Hunter about it one time, and last week and I
- 28:44Speaker 4: was like, damn, they're only thirty four bucks. While I
- 28:46Speaker 4: was looking for at the women's tickets to get in
- 28:49Speaker 4: for Sunday.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well, Dak, you're on a you're on a
- 28:53Speaker 1: money spending spree.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Here, you might as well just you know what. Yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 4: now I'm not even thinking about going. But if you
- 28:59Speaker 4: asked me for you today, probably I wasn't the end
- 29:01Speaker 4: end up going, but nope.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. Looking at the schedule, you got Illinois, Perdue,
- 29:07Speaker 5: Iowa twice and then USC UCLA. Yeah, I feel like,
- 29:13Speaker 5: you know, you could lose three of those games. It's
- 29:15Speaker 5: tough to say because we haven't lost any yet. So
- 29:16Speaker 5: it's like, well, why would we lose three? Why would
- 29:19Speaker 5: we triple our losses in the last third of the season.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Then we had the first half or the first two thirds.
- 29:24Speaker 5: But I don't think they're gonna step off the gas
- 29:28Speaker 5: that breaks or step off the gas. They're not gonna
- 29:30Speaker 5: put the brakes on. I think they're you. I mean,
- 29:34Speaker 5: if you listen to the half time or not the halftime.
- 29:37Speaker 5: The com press conference after the Minnesota game, like Hoiberg,
- 29:43Speaker 5: so we didnt talk about Minnesota game, but we were
- 29:45Speaker 5: down by six in the first half, got a terrible
- 29:47Speaker 5: offensive half, and then we absolutely crushed them in the
- 29:52Speaker 5: final whatever sixteen minutes, going on a forty four to
- 29:55Speaker 5: seventeen run. The Hoiberg's like, yeah, you know, like you know,
- 29:59Speaker 5: that's what championship teams do. Like he's talking about as
- 30:02Speaker 5: a championship team, and that's like, oh man, they in
- 30:04Speaker 5: the locker room, I think they think they're like, they
- 30:07Speaker 5: don't think they believe that they are gonna win a
- 30:10Speaker 5: championship this year.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So here's what I don't want to happen.
- 30:14Speaker 2: And I think we've done a good job of blocking
- 30:16Speaker 2: out the noise to everything so far, because this is
- 30:20Speaker 2: what our fan base does with our football team and
- 30:24Speaker 2: it's a part of just sports in general. But it's
- 30:27Speaker 2: your ability to not let it affect your mentality and
- 30:30Speaker 2: your motivation.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I guess it can affect your motivation if it's positive.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Is the expectations that it puts on you and the
- 30:37Speaker 2: pressure that it puts on you to perform in a game.
- 30:42Speaker 2: And so far, I feel like our team has been
- 30:45Speaker 2: very like nope to say, game by game, block out
- 30:48Speaker 2: the outside noise, do what we have to do, focus on.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Us and the score will take care of itself.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Now there's obviously other narratives coming into play, and Fred
- 31:00Speaker 2: starting to kind of bring those in a little bit.
- 31:02Speaker 5: Too, says they're spending those narratives too. In a conference.
- 31:05Speaker 5: He is like, you're like Sam's like, yeah, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 5: like we're a Final four team, you know, like they're
- 31:09Speaker 5: they're the ones.
- 31:10Speaker 1: So there, so there.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Now, I think it's transitioned from a from what I
- 31:14Speaker 2: first said to now these narratives are in your head.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Now again, that's not a bad thing if you if
- 31:20Speaker 2: it's a confidence and not pressure. And I think there's
- 31:23Speaker 2: a fine line from a mental standpoint here. I'm talking
- 31:26Speaker 2: like a psychologist, but like I.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Think you you you.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Can hear that and say believe it, truly believe it
- 31:34Speaker 2: and your confidence, which I think is where we're as
- 31:37Speaker 2: a team. The flip side of it is hearing it
- 31:39Speaker 2: and when things start going south, you go and and
- 31:44Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you're you got a little bit
- 31:47Speaker 2: of pressure underneath you and things lock up, Like that's
- 31:50Speaker 2: the other thing that could happen.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I don't.
- 31:52Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 31:53Speaker 2: When I'm saying I'm worried or not worried, but what
- 31:55Speaker 2: could happen in the last ten games is that piece
- 31:58Speaker 2: getting to us. It's happened with our football tack Minnesota game.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Minnesota game was the big, the big one this year.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I have a lot more Commons team than that that
- 32:09Speaker 4: their pressure on that it's not gonna get to them.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Then freaking we get ranked one time and then we're
- 32:13Speaker 4: not gonna prepare for him, and I su the football
- 32:15Speaker 4: team like, yeah, there's and again there's fans will freak
- 32:22Speaker 4: out they do lose Sunday at Illinois, But as long
- 32:24Speaker 4: as they don't get blown out there and then well
- 32:29Speaker 4: let's not lose.
- 32:29Speaker 1: To Illinois at home.
- 32:30Speaker 4: I don't think we should know if if fragrant rank
- 32:34Speaker 4: or back, if they're out, then.
- 32:36Speaker 3: No, but but they both should be. So I don't know.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I think I think they truly are a final one
- 32:45Speaker 4: of the top five best teams in the nation.
- 32:47Speaker 3: I think they've shown that so far.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Yeah no, I mean they won every game and almost
- 32:56Speaker 5: number three. Like I said, I think I think all
- 32:58Speaker 5: the pressure right now is coming from inside the locker.
- 33:00Speaker 5: I think Fred Fred is talking like, you know, we're
- 33:07Speaker 5: gonna win these games, not because the crap of the
- 33:09Speaker 5: fans say we will because we say.
- 33:11Speaker 2: It's government a confidence standpoint, which I think is good.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I think Fred smart enough. He's a very intelligent guy.
- 33:18Speaker 2: He's he's saying those things because he understands his team.
- 33:21Speaker 2: That's not going to affect them negatively, and you know,
- 33:25Speaker 2: you hope he's right.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Like I do. Fred was, like I said, very much.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Early on in the year, very much ignore the national highpe,
- 33:32Speaker 2: ignore the top twenty five ranking, ignore the undefeated season
- 33:37Speaker 2: and the streak that we're on, winning streak. He was
- 33:41Speaker 2: more ignored all you know, close, close the doors, work hard,
- 33:46Speaker 2: which I like that approach better. But now Fred's kind
- 33:49Speaker 2: of transitioned into the open door, no word, championship caliber team,
- 33:53Speaker 2: which again can be good if.
- 33:55Speaker 1: You if you, if you absorb it the right way.
- 33:58Speaker 2: And I think so far we haven't seen then we haven't,
- 34:01Speaker 2: so that's a good good sign.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I'm just saying that's out there right now.
- 34:04Speaker 2: That's a changing narrative a little bit from what it
- 34:07Speaker 2: was three weeks ago.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Even I mean part of it is is I don't
- 34:10Speaker 5: think at any point this year, I think even now
- 34:15Speaker 5: after that game, if we don't make the final four,
- 34:19Speaker 5: people aren't going to be like, oh my, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 5: like locations there, they're still there. People. We realize that
- 34:26Speaker 5: it's a good team, but it's like that's just gonna win.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Like I don't think any.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Last I was gonna I was gonna do this.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Today is my last basketball thing, So I want to
- 34:33Speaker 2: I want to set you guys in your shoes here
- 34:35Speaker 2: on It's Sunday, March twentieth, So take yourself to that
- 34:39Speaker 2: day in the calendar.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Picture where you're at.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Here and in Oklahoma.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Oh we are, yeah, Sunday so so so it's we
- 34:52Speaker 2: just finished up our second game in Nebraska, the two
- 34:55Speaker 2: seats nebrastic Cornhuskers just lost to the seventh seed Saint
- 34:58Speaker 2: Louis Billikins.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Uh where our work late in Buffalo, New York.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Okay, how do you feel? We just how do you
- 35:09Speaker 2: feel a season officially just got over? We just lost
- 35:13Speaker 2: by least whatever. We just lost Saint Louis.
- 35:17Speaker 5: That's the thing is, like, I mean i'd be i'd
- 35:18Speaker 5: be disappointed. I'm sure I could devastate that fhie loss.
- 35:22Speaker 5: But right now it's just be like, man, hell of
- 35:25Speaker 5: a year, you know, just wow, and you just feel
- 35:29Speaker 5: I just feel really good about next year. I don't know.
- 35:31Speaker 5: I don't know. I obviously i'd be disappointed that we
- 35:34Speaker 5: didn't make it further, but I don't. I don't think.
- 35:39Speaker 5: I I mean, coming in the year, my expectation was
- 35:41Speaker 5: win one game, and I think we can do more.
- 35:44Speaker 5: But obviously March Madness is its own beast, and you
- 35:48Speaker 5: understand that, you know, a lot of times the better
- 35:50Speaker 5: teams don't win.
- 35:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 35:52Speaker 5: I think I'd be okay.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I don't.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I don't think there would be any any point besides,
- 35:59Speaker 4: if they lose that first game, right, I'd be like
- 36:00Speaker 4: this this season was a failure. If you lose that
- 36:03Speaker 4: first game, March Madness, then all this is worth nothing
- 36:06Speaker 4: like that, that's a one. I'll be like this this
- 36:08Speaker 4: season was terrible and whatever. But but you get second round,
- 36:13Speaker 4: it's it's been a hell of a ride, like it's
- 36:16Speaker 4: been fun, and.
- 36:17Speaker 1: It'd be so hard.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I don't know, Like you knows from the player's side
- 36:21Speaker 2: and everything, like you said that they're believing that you
- 36:24Speaker 2: lose a game like that and don't even make the
- 36:25Speaker 2: Sweet sixteen, You're going, what a missed opportunity? I mean,
- 36:29Speaker 2: and I mean I think as a fan, you can
- 36:31Speaker 2: think that too, because you do think you've seen you've
- 36:35Speaker 2: seen that we've been able to compete with these top
- 36:37Speaker 2: teams and yeah, like you said earlier Austin, you're going
- 36:40Speaker 2: against them game after game now, So that's definitely an
- 36:45Speaker 2: element to consider. But at the same time, you feel
- 36:48Speaker 2: like we at least should be making the Sweet sixteen
- 36:51Speaker 2: this year like that, that least that would feel pretty
- 36:53Speaker 2: good as a two seed. I'm just thrown out that
- 36:56Speaker 2: we're going to be a two seed because that's what
- 36:57Speaker 2: everybody has its right now. That could change, but that
- 37:01Speaker 2: that I just had that thought. I'm like, huh, what
- 37:02Speaker 2: would you what would you feel? You know, you get
- 37:05Speaker 2: our first tournament win.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Is that enough? Are you satisfied?
- 37:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we are a little bit, but it shouldn't be
- 37:14Speaker 2: like with this team.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Like you know what I mean.
- 37:17Speaker 2: If if we're a seventh seed and you win, or
- 37:19Speaker 2: an eight seed or even a six seed and you
- 37:22Speaker 2: win your first game, then you're really satisfied and you're
- 37:25Speaker 2: playing for as money because then you're playing a three
- 37:26Speaker 2: seed or whatever the next round. You're probably like, all right,
- 37:29Speaker 2: you win, great, if not, we got our first tournament win.
- 37:32Speaker 2: But if you're a two seed, you maybe have a
- 37:34Speaker 2: little bit higher goals.
- 37:36Speaker 5: I hear what you're saying, but it's just so hard
- 37:39Speaker 5: to shift those expectations. Yeah, for a program that's just
- 37:43Speaker 5: never done it, that's crazy.
- 37:45Speaker 1: It's it's not like it's going from a the program
- 37:49Speaker 1: we've had to like a good team.
- 37:53Speaker 2: We've gone from a program we've had to an elite
- 37:55Speaker 2: team from a record and a college basketball landscape. It's
- 37:59Speaker 2: a top five team like in in really one season.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Half the season that didn't even we didn't even.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Make the Big Ten tournament last year.
- 38:09Speaker 1: No, correct, this is.
- 38:12Speaker 5: The This is essentially the same team as last year,
- 38:14Speaker 5: except without you know, Bryce Williams.
- 38:17Speaker 2: And it's not people compared to Indiana football in a
- 38:24Speaker 2: weird way.
- 38:25Speaker 1: It's crazier than Indiana football because.
- 38:27Speaker 5: It Indiana brought in.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Indiana made the playoffs last year. They didn't win it
- 38:32Speaker 2: all last year, like.
- 38:33Speaker 5: But they were they were a top thing.
- 38:36Speaker 1: This has been like really one year.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I mean last year was good the way it ended,
- 38:40Speaker 2: we won the crown, but it wasn't like we were
- 38:43Speaker 2: sixteen team last year.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Right, No, there wasn't like a whole lot of them
- 38:48Speaker 4: in this year. But but yeah, it's and they didn't
- 38:52Speaker 4: bring in any like great transfers, like it's crazy at price,
- 38:58Speaker 4: which that he.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Was an eight point the player off the bench for
- 39:02Speaker 5: Iowa last year. Wasn't like, oh we got.
- 39:03Speaker 1: This, let's be real. That's what Indiana did too.
- 39:08Speaker 5: That's true. That's guess. That's kind of what cal did.
- 39:10Speaker 1: In Indiana, doesn't.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Yeah, football, they they didn't bring in top five star recruits.
- 39:14Speaker 2: That's not what Dak said is false. Indian didn't bring
- 39:17Speaker 2: in a bunch of guys. They got, they got some,
- 39:21Speaker 2: They got the players they wanted. They didn't bring much
- 39:23Speaker 2: of five stars.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Know what.
- 39:26Speaker 4: What Fran's proven though, is that he can he can
- 39:28Speaker 4: actually pick out players and transfer portal line like Mattle
- 39:31Speaker 4: with that guy can't do anything or talent wise, but
- 39:34Speaker 4: he he picks up the right players and knows what
- 39:36Speaker 4: he wants and they end up paying. Which y'all play
- 39:39Speaker 4: hard for him and play the style that he wants.
- 39:41Speaker 5: I know it's going well, but man, imagine if we
- 39:44Speaker 5: had Ougi or Connor Siegon, like just one more bench piece,
- 39:50Speaker 5: like was the Mac Player of the Year last year,
- 39:53Speaker 5: and Connor Asiega was a you know, a you know,
- 39:57Speaker 5: quality offensive player off.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Talk about another three point threat and that game.
- 40:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I know we just needed one more offensive something
- 40:04Speaker 5: at the end of the game when we got in
- 40:05Speaker 5: a rut and they had JaMarcus and Price locked up
- 40:10Speaker 5: and Sam Sam had a couple of open threes.
- 40:12Speaker 4: But I think the think the thing I thought about
- 40:16Speaker 4: with the season though, is.
- 40:18Speaker 3: How bad he is defensively.
- 40:20Speaker 4: But I don't know if that almost hurt the team
- 40:22Speaker 4: I think with how they played defensively wise.
- 40:25Speaker 1: But.
- 40:26Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying is the rest of the team.
- 40:28Speaker 5: I think, one, we haven't really give Connor enough time
- 40:31Speaker 5: to show what you could do this year. Like I mean,
- 40:33Speaker 5: he's been in the defensive system. I mean, Leo Curtis
- 40:37Speaker 5: just went out there just ripping on defense.
- 40:39Speaker 2: If Connors in, if Connors in, Kales out, I mean
- 40:42Speaker 2: that he's not better than Kale defensively.
- 40:45Speaker 1: So that you're some offense for defense.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that that's that that I think is the big
- 40:52Speaker 2: thing you're you're you're talking about. I think I think defensively,
- 40:55Speaker 2: that's that's almost what we just played our best.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Line up there.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I think, like you know, rank I think is good defensively,
- 41:02Speaker 2: but the ranks not a stellar defensive players. Size body wise,
- 41:06Speaker 2: I think our.
- 41:08Speaker 5: Best defensive players play we're starting five.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was that was why I think that
- 41:14Speaker 2: was not a bapping. Offensive leaguer is limited with that lineup,
- 41:17Speaker 2: which we knew.
- 41:21Speaker 5: And we'll see what happens against Illinois. I mean, although
- 41:26Speaker 5: he's really good man. I know we beat them once
- 41:30Speaker 5: on a on a buzzer beater. They have not lost
- 41:33Speaker 5: since they lost to us on the so.
- 41:38Speaker 2: PBA will be rocking, I'm sure on Sunday.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Here's one other stack coming from that game.
- 41:44Speaker 4: That was first time the first time Kale has lost
- 41:47Speaker 4: at Nebraska since he's played twenty twenty plus minutes, So that.
- 41:52Speaker 5: That does good. His associate, he's a bench player, only
- 41:55Speaker 5: comes in.
- 41:56Speaker 6: We were winning a lot.
- 41:57Speaker 1: And to win the tip.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that's wild that that might be the start of
- 42:04Speaker 4: the I know it's not part of march manness, but
- 42:06Speaker 4: that should be the start of what do they call
- 42:08Speaker 4: the end of.
- 42:09Speaker 1: It one shining moment?
- 42:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that that should be the first clip of it.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Ball tipped.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna move on to football, which everybody does
- 42:21Speaker 2: not want to even listen about. But we're gonna talk
- 42:24Speaker 2: about the schedule and here's how we're gonna do it.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Got check.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I don't even if you guys have pulled up. But
- 42:29Speaker 2: we're gonna go through each game one by one. You're
- 42:31Speaker 2: gonna say.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Win, loss, Oh god easy.
- 42:34Speaker 1: That's how we're doing it.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And we're gonna see what what we have for projected
- 42:38Speaker 2: record as of January twenty ninth or the twenty twenty
- 42:41Speaker 2: sixth season. First game, Saturday, September fifth, Ohio Bobcats.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Come to Lincoln.
- 42:52Speaker 3: When When? When?
- 42:57Speaker 1: And this is obviously with.
- 42:59Speaker 2: All the unknown, who knows what what our team's got,
- 43:02Speaker 2: But we're just we're gut checking it out here.
- 43:04Speaker 5: Boll agree.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Thanks September twelfth.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Wow, back to back, Matt, how about that.
- 43:12Speaker 4: In Ohio? Win?
- 43:13Speaker 1: When when?
- 43:14Speaker 3: Yep?
- 43:15Speaker 1: When North Dakota coming to Lincoln.
- 43:22Speaker 4: If you put a state at the end of that
- 43:23Speaker 4: I put I'd say lost.
- 43:24Speaker 3: But that's when when?
- 43:26Speaker 1: But man, that one's trappy.
- 43:29Speaker 4: They almost lost to them a couple of years ago
- 43:31Speaker 4: with case Thomnson.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Okay, then we go on the road September twenty sixth.
- 43:35Speaker 2: So we knew the schedule, by the way, like the
- 43:38Speaker 2: teams we were playing against, we just didn't know or
- 43:41Speaker 2: where the order in the days, so we gotta knew
- 43:44Speaker 2: where we were going. We just didn't know the day.
- 43:46Speaker 2: So that's what's new about this. At Michigan State on
- 43:49Speaker 2: September twenty sixth.
- 43:54Speaker 5: I think it's a loss.
- 43:55Speaker 3: I think, man, I still think we're better than the
- 43:57Speaker 3: Michigan State.
- 43:58Speaker 5: Think Henston's chair though. I mean he's the Nebraska.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Killer because we get him early.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Give me a win, Okay, I can see that we
- 44:08Speaker 2: can't win at Michigan State.
- 44:10Speaker 1: We seem to lose that.
- 44:11Speaker 2: I think I heard the statu has been like since
- 44:13Speaker 2: two thousand and I don't even know what it was
- 44:15Speaker 2: like seven or something or that couldn't have been actual.
- 44:17Speaker 2: We were't in the Big ten eleven maybe I don't know,
- 44:21Speaker 2: since Jamal Turner catching the So.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Say, we're at this point the season talking around this
- 44:27Speaker 4: where the hype takes.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Off yet there's no hype.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Uh.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Then we go October third at home against Maryland.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Oh fuck yeah, win? They could be five.
- 44:40Speaker 5: No.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Mike Loxley, Yeah, I can't believe he's still coaching for Maryland.
- 44:45Speaker 1: That's incredible.
- 44:46Speaker 5: But didn't a team that good quarterback of theirs? I
- 44:49Speaker 5: can't think of his name.
- 44:51Speaker 1: He was the freshman Washington. Yep, all right. Then we
- 44:57Speaker 1: have Indiana at home October tenth.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Huskers are gonna five and zer according to Dak and
- 45:01Speaker 2: I four and one hard l big.
- 45:05Speaker 4: New kickoffs there for this and they're gonna get their
- 45:08Speaker 4: ass sixty seven at least.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Then that organ to Orgon on October seventeenth.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I am leaning towards going to this game.
- 45:24Speaker 5: Oh, that'll be a fun one.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I've been to Michigan State, then to Illinois. This this
- 45:30Speaker 2: would be the one I'm circling.
- 45:31Speaker 4: This year, so it would be fun that. Now, game
- 45:34Speaker 4: might not be fun, but no, the loss. So let's say, right,
- 45:40Speaker 4: let's do this right now these two games. What's the
- 45:42Speaker 4: combined score they lose by Indian Organ.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I would saying fifty plus.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's gonna be a lot.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Then after we get killed in two games, we get
- 45:56Speaker 2: a rest by a week.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Then we come back at home with Demon Washington.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Or Demonmon Williams from Washington who stayed.
- 46:09Speaker 1: There after going in.
- 46:11Speaker 2: And out of the portal a couple of different times
- 46:13Speaker 2: on Halloween October thirty and I can't leave.
- 46:17Speaker 4: The stays what the well?
- 46:20Speaker 5: I think he was forced to stay. There is some
- 46:22Speaker 5: contract stuff.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a messy situation.
- 46:25Speaker 4: I I oh, boy, probably another loss.
- 46:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a loss. I think Washington's good?
- 46:34Speaker 2: Yeah there, I yeah, this game scares me and I
- 46:40Speaker 2: think our confidence could just get blown out and there
- 46:42Speaker 2: could be a lot of just people not happy internally
- 46:47Speaker 2: and externally. Shit, Okay, I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna
- 46:53Speaker 2: pencil in a loss. You guys did too.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Then we go at Illinois on November seventh.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Wow, yeah loss?
- 47:04Speaker 4: Oh well, I take that back? When when that Luke
- 47:08Speaker 4: might just gotta be gone by now?
- 47:11Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna go lost. And then at Rutgers that's.
- 47:14Speaker 4: When when maybe, unless it's for everything, let's put the
- 47:19Speaker 4: game on the Friday night. It's hell to play there
- 47:21Speaker 4: on Fridays.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I think we win one of those three. I'll put
- 47:27Speaker 1: it that way.
- 47:28Speaker 2: So I'll give us the Ruggers one, and that's I
- 47:33Speaker 2: think that's promising. We could lose all of them.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Well, I have stayed at home November twenty first, yep.
- 47:44Speaker 1: And then at Iowa Oh yeah, lost?
- 47:49Speaker 3: Boy, this is this is getting me a tough year.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Yep.
- 47:52Speaker 2: God, where's our second bye week? Did I miss that?
- 47:55Speaker 5: There is one?
- 47:56Speaker 4: There is?
- 47:57Speaker 3: I think I thought they took that away.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's our start a week later, September fifth.
- 48:02Speaker 2: So what that means that our early prediction going six
- 48:06Speaker 2: and six, Austin five and seven, Dak.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Seven and five.
- 48:14Speaker 5: Wow, And I'm gonna guess the Betty On line the
- 48:19Speaker 5: over under is going to be five and a half.
- 48:23Speaker 3: It's got to be already out right.
- 48:26Speaker 1: No, No, I'm.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Probably not hold up.
- 48:30Speaker 4: You just told me something that's going to pass me on.
- 48:32Speaker 4: You're telling college football doesn't start Labor Dy weekend anymore.
- 48:36Speaker 5: No, that is Labor Day weekend.
- 48:38Speaker 3: No, September fifth, is is it?
- 48:40Speaker 5: It's the first Yeah, yeah it is, Okay, I always
- 48:43Speaker 5: thought it was a Okay, it's that first weekend of September.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Usually it starts, Usually it starts before Labor Day weekend.
- 48:51Speaker 5: I mean week zero is probably a week before. They're
- 48:53Speaker 5: probably doing Week zero. They will be hit full of
- 48:55Speaker 5: games on the twenty eighth or whatever.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I think six is going to be a battle.
- 49:02Speaker 4: I mean, I was. I was.
- 49:03Speaker 2: That's giving us a win against Michigan State too. I
- 49:05Speaker 2: had to at the battle. I agree, it's I could
- 49:09Speaker 2: I could see it being five and a half juice
- 49:12Speaker 2: to the overs or six and a half. Juice to
- 49:14Speaker 2: the Unders like heavy odds to the Unders on six
- 49:17Speaker 2: and a half.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I mean you could hold on, hold.
- 49:20Speaker 2: On, pause, Raska fans, So so you got to add
- 49:25Speaker 2: a win to that.
- 49:26Speaker 5: Don't give me six and a half? Yeah, six and
- 49:30Speaker 5: a half now juice they're gonna.
- 49:34Speaker 4: So yeah, I guess the only bright part about it
- 49:36Speaker 4: is most are tough games are at home, which I
- 49:37Speaker 4: don't think that's gonna matter. I think they're get their
- 49:39Speaker 4: ass kicked against a lot of those teams. But yeah,
- 49:44Speaker 4: that that Indiana game at home is going to be ugly.
- 49:47Speaker 4: But at what point the boot Birds start coming out.
- 49:50Speaker 5: Early first quarter? Can I give it?
- 49:53Speaker 2: Can I give like a little sign of like optimism? Yeah, Indiana, Oregon,
- 49:59Speaker 2: Ohio State or all losses right, like, chock them up.
- 50:04Speaker 1: The rest of the.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Games here, I will say that next tier of your
- 50:11Speaker 2: I'm just gonna throw a Penn State in there.
- 50:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw Michigan in there.
- 50:16Speaker 2: We avoid those teams, so like we at least don't
- 50:21Speaker 2: play the top six Big ten teams. We play the
- 50:25Speaker 2: top three and those are all losses.
- 50:28Speaker 4: But then.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Everybody else is in that same Now, Washington, like you guys, said,
- 50:34Speaker 2: I think that forever. Bason Washington's getting so much hype
- 50:38Speaker 2: already for next year. I think just that quarterback in Illinois,
- 50:43Speaker 2: you know that, and Iowa like, we never can beat
- 50:47Speaker 2: those teams, and then we play Rutgers in Michigan State
- 50:50Speaker 2: on the road.
- 50:51Speaker 1: So yeah, when you start.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Looking at games that you think you could win, then
- 50:56Speaker 2: you got to play them on the road.
- 50:58Speaker 1: So that's the downfall of it. But I don't know.
- 51:04Speaker 1: That's my positive optimism for the Huskers.
- 51:08Speaker 3: I there's not much optimism.
- 51:11Speaker 4: I don't think coming in here at all.
- 51:13Speaker 2: We don't have a hard non conference game, so we
