Paula Flannery, a trailblazing woman who reshaped horsemanship and fiber arts, passed away in early June 2026, leaving behind a legacy of grit, creativity, and compassion. At just 21, she became Humboldt County’s first female farrier, running Bare Foot Shoeing—where she shod horses, hauled goods, and even tended to sheep and goats. But her talents stretched far beyond hooves: she spun yarns into art, taught knitting and crochet at the College of the Redwoods, and shared her love of horses through riding and training.
