- 1:18It's pod. Podular.
- 1:22Welcome back, everybody. Thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:27It is Friday, September 19th.
- 1:30This is episode 47, and boy,
- 1:34do we have a special one for you. First things first.
- 1:37Happy Human Dream 2 Day.
- 1:40Today is the official release of the second EP Human
- 1:45Dream Project. We're going to be focused on that quite a bit here today,
- 1:50and with the help of an artist, Spotlight, the 10th installment
- 1:55as well. But before we get into that, let's introduce my co host,
- 1:58Mr. Scotty Fuller. How are we feeling today?
- 2:04Oh, boy. I am feeling real, real,
- 2:07real good, buddy.
- 2:11Dare I say I'm. I've never been more excited about anything short
- 2:15of like the two things that come to mind are the birth of my child
- 2:18and my wedding. Yeah, well, this is all I got, man.
- 2:22So you ain't got either one of those. So this is it
- 2:26for you. Let's marry the game, bro. Married to the game.
- 2:30All right, so, I mean, let's get right into it with The Human Dream 2.
- 2:34Obviously, a very exciting day. The Human Dream 2 has been live on
- 2:38Bandcamp for Bandcamp subscribers for a couple days now, but today marks the official
- 2:43release on all streaming platforms. Spotify,
- 2:46Tidal, Apple Music. So really exciting
- 2:51there. And we start off with. Is this the
- 2:55scariest sts9 song to ever be recorded in the studio
- 3:00with Dusk? Good God, Scotty. I mean, dude, what were they thinking
- 3:04with this one? I mean, we. We. We're gonna find out here in a
- 3:07few minutes. But. But it. In the. In the. In the. The. The.
- 3:11The few minutes that we have before we get into it,
- 3:15man, We. We. We. We so, so affectionately and
- 3:18lovingly call this one scare your grandma music on this. On this podcast.
- 3:22And they're not doing anything to shy away from
- 3:26that label. No, this. There is.
- 3:30There is a clarity to this in the studio
- 3:34that somehow makes it scarier.
- 3:39I mean, you said it like there's no way around it. This.
- 3:43This is on its own and especially in a.
- 3:47On in a studio setting. Like, we have a few songs
- 3:50like this in the catalog. None of them are on an album, though.
- 3:54Like, we've got Twilight like that. You know, there's. There's things that
- 3:57are. That kind of exist in the same realm as this, but for them to
- 4:01take the time to do this in the studio is really cool.
- 4:06And I. I said in our. In a group chat that both of us are
- 4:10in earlier, I think it's one of my favorite studio offerings. I think right off
- 4:13the bat. Yeah, I mean, right off the bat, we hear a
- 4:17hundred brown Guitar tone, which wasn't
- 4:21in that clip to start, but like that first kind of melody
- 4:25line he plays, it's like almost Jerry Garcia esque,
- 4:27like, like, with like the heavy, like,
- 4:32effects. Like it's just
- 4:36playing around with different stuff. And even in these songs that are being released in
- 4:40the EP that we've been seeing in the live catalog for a number
- 4:44of years, adding freshness to it. Right.
- 4:47Adding more modular depth to it with fips just
- 4:52keying in on the glockenspiel. I think that is
- 4:56from Jeffrey on that. Like you said, it's coming
- 5:00through clear and it makes it that much scary. And we are on the
- 5:04heels of the scary seasons, baby. Yeah. Halloween is coming up
- 5:08and we all know that's one of the best STS9 holidays.
- 5:12So, I mean, this one's really diving into Jack O Lantern shit.
- 5:16The word that I wanted to use with Dusk was hollow, but I hesitated
- 5:22because I feel like that could be conceived as a negative word, but not in
- 5:25the way that I'm saying it. I mean, like Hallow when you shout into
- 5:29a graveyard. And the echoes that come off of. The gravestones types
- 5:33like Headless Horseman, Sleepy Hollow. Right, right,
- 5:37right. Like, I just. I'm.
- 5:40I'm at a loss for a better description of it right now, but it's
- 5:44just the openness that the studio allows.
- 5:47You know, I don't know that there's just. There's just something about this
- 5:51version of it that I, I really appreciate and I, you know, it's.
- 5:54We have such a embarrassment of riches when it comes to live recordings.
- 5:59I, I barely go back to studio anything, and I, I feel like Studio Dusk
- 6:03will make it on some playlists I. I like. Oh, yeah, for sure. The trick
- 6:07or treating playlist, definitely. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Hopefully kids will
- 6:11still come get candy for my house. I was just having that thought.
- 6:16But it kind of has the, the, the. The Halloween
- 6:20movie theme s to it a little bit on that.
- 6:23But, like, I mean, this is so much more than we're kind of pigeon hole
- 6:27holding it here like this. This is a shoulder shaker, baby. This is a
- 6:31toe tapper. It's one that gets you moving for sure.
- 6:35And it seems like they've really, really settled into a pocket.
- 6:39I noticed a change with it. I can't really put my finger
- 6:43on what it was from the Dylan version. And I
- 6:47know that was on the cutting room floor as far as our clips were going
- 6:50from last week, but glad that we got to revisit it this
- 6:54week. It was almost the universe Speaking in that sense. But yeah,
- 6:59like I said in the intro, guys, we have what
- 7:04is the most exciting installment of the Artist Spotlight
- 7:08series here, the 10th installment. So without further ado,
- 7:12let's throw it to the interview.
- 7:16Ladies and gentlemen, it is time.
- 7:19Whether you are joining this podcast for the first time or if you've been kind
- 7:23enough to join us for all 297,481
- 7:28seconds of this journey, and you bet your ass I counted. Because every
- 7:32single one has led us to this moment right here. In those seconds, you have
- 7:36heard from collaborators like Audio angel and Marine Murphy,
- 7:39Taylor Houston Morgan Tiberius George Benson, Brad Bowden and
- 7:43Matty o' Neal, and numerous other fans and creators. But today we
- 7:47are going straight to the source. Not only the source of Nate and
- 7:51friendship, but the source of a passionate and diverse community of
- 7:55people built on the principles of symbiotic connection and love.
- 7:59Love, love, love, Love, love. These five musicians
- 8:04have collectively soundtracked over 227 collective
- 8:07shows between Me and Nate's life. But that is just a fraction of the over
- 8:111300 shows they have played together in their 28 year career.
- 8:15Today they are here for the first time, but certainly and hopefully
- 8:19not the last, to talk about all things Human Dream. Please welcome Alana
- 8:23Rocklin, Jeffrey Lerner, Hunter Brown, Zach Velmer and David Phipps.
- 8:28Sound Tribe Sector nine. Welcome, guys.
- 8:31Thanks for having us. For having us. So thank
- 8:35you. What an intro, Scotty. Excellent.
- 8:38Yeah, well done. I hadn't heard that yet. Yeah.
- 8:42Me tearing up goosebumps. First of all, I mean,
- 8:46we're only a couple weeks removed from that absolute scorcher of
- 8:50a three night run in Colorado. Vibes have
- 8:54got to be high. How'd the energy feel coming off those
- 8:58shows? Did it look as fun as it sounded and was it as fun as
- 9:02it looked and sounded? Absolutely, absolutely. Yeah,
- 9:06absolutely. It was a little hot in the Boulder theater.
- 9:10Yeah, the weather was pretty warm in
- 9:14there, but you know, that kind of lends itself to just a.
- 9:19A scorcher, you know, like you guys,
- 9:22I'll quote you just, it was, it was, it was pretty
- 9:26special. The energy, the vibe, the community was
- 9:32on a level, to say the least. Yeah,
- 9:35completely agree with that. So, you know, let's,
- 9:39let's get right into the topic of discussion, guys. Happy Human Dream 2 release
- 9:43day. First of all, we are recording
- 9:48this the night before, but everyone else is going to be hearing it, you know,
- 9:51right alongside. Probably as soon as they finish it. They're hopefully they're checking
- 9:55this out. Let's get right into it. So, Hunter, you mentioned
- 10:00a while ago in a. In a. In an interview that you
- 10:04guys have more unreleased music than you know what to do with.
- 10:07You've got the studio that you have, by your own words, kind of
- 10:11opened the floodgates to us to this year. And I. This is very
- 10:15much that. So it feels like you guys are usually in the
- 10:19mode of at least casually creating. How do you kind of.
- 10:23How do you know when you left casual creation mode and entered
- 10:27album mode? That's a good question. I think we're always in
- 10:32hard folk, creative minds, you know, And I think it's always.
- 10:36There's just always that kind. That's the spirit of what we do.
- 10:39That's what's always going on. That's what we're always talking about. And eventually
- 10:44it's like, oh, you know what? We might have an album here or there's an
- 10:47idea that comes along that we want to express that that kind of comes in
- 10:51conjunction with a group of songs, like with Human Dream. And so I
- 10:55think it's just right now, at least that's
- 11:02a new question right now that's kind of left to be discovered. I think because
- 11:06we do have so much material now,
- 11:10we're kind of figuring out what do we want to do, how do we want
- 11:13to do it? And we really haven't been in that place before, to be honest.
- 11:16At least in this place where we are now with the kind of material that
- 11:20we've got. We've got a bunch of new songs, We've got a ton of old
- 11:22songs. Fan favorites that we've never recorded before. So we're
- 11:27feeling pretty good and really excited just to get
- 11:31into it all and start. Yeah. And really open up those floodgates.
- 11:34Fan favorites that you've never recorded before, as in you are
- 11:38currently recording them,
- 11:41maybe. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. A little sneak peek there.
- 11:45Absolutely. We are all together and.
- 11:48Yeah. You know. Yeah. Are all together. That's what we spend our time doing.
- 11:52So, hell yeah. I want to say something about,
- 11:56like, the casual going in because, like, especially with a human dream,
- 12:00like on that particular subject, it's like there was this kind
- 12:04of thing that. That was a really cool
- 12:09moment in S for all five of us that, like going
- 12:14into this writing together, playing some of the music
- 12:19out and getting that energy and then. And then right
- 12:22from there, from the writing process and then actually coming back from
- 12:26maybe playing a show when we debuted a song and getting the response from the
- 12:31energy. If we had six songs, now we have
- 12:35seven. And if we had Seven songs and then nine.
- 12:38And then we had nine. You know, so there was this kind of like,
- 12:43oh, we're going to try this out and maybe it'll connect and maybe
- 12:46not. Not. Not that it won't. It'll be a song. But like,
- 12:49wow. Not from. I don't know if it's as. As black and
- 12:54white, as casual to the. Now it's on the album. But like, there was a.
- 12:57A definite response energetically from
- 13:02fans with us playing it and being like. I mean,
- 13:05just speaking specifically for a couple, I'm gonna say one song.
- 13:09Glass. Glass was one of those songs. Dusk was one of
- 13:13those songs, you know, so it was like. I mean, it was. I remember looking
- 13:16at the Eastern in Atlanta and looking at the. You guys going nuts. It was
- 13:20us. Yeah, it was us, absolutely. So 100%. And it was like. We all were
- 13:24like, well, all right, 10, 11. Yeah,
- 13:28we've got a hit. Yeah. Yeah. So.
- 13:32That was honestly the next question we had. You know, Zach, you've talked
- 13:37about in other interviews about the collaborative process between the band and fans.
- 13:41Talk about it before. Encore is the symbiotic thing that
- 13:45we have going on, and those moments seem to
- 13:48really happen in the studio and on stage. It really crystallized
- 13:53the direction of the Human dream as far
- 13:56as inspiration goes. Right. Because that's what starts before anything
- 14:00gets played or whether it be in the studio or live on stage.
- 14:06You mentioned a lot of artists, Zach. You talked about LTJ
- 14:10Bookham, MC Conrad, Rony Size, Clifford Gilberto,
- 14:14and then Alana, you tipped your hat to James Jamerson.
- 14:18Jeffrey, you've talked about Marvin Gaye, Hunter, you've talked about bebop
- 14:22and jazz influence on Portal to the Starry Path. Who else is
- 14:26inspiring you guys right now? And are there any other artists who inspired the
- 14:30Human Dream that you'd like the fan base to know about?
- 14:34Well, this might be silly, but it's absolutely sincere.
- 14:38Hunter Brown in fifths, Alana Rocklin,
- 14:43Zach Velmer on the real. And I think the
- 14:47dedication and the intention that everyone brings to their. Their craft
- 14:52and what we're able to achieve together and then exemplify
- 14:56exponentially blossoms when you add a fan
- 15:00and a show and the experience, and that's
- 15:06what honestly is inspiring me right now.
- 15:11I love that answer. Any. Any, Anyone,
- 15:14anyone else? I mean, I. I think it's, you know, you can't
- 15:19With. With. With. With writing and inspiration. I think it's
- 15:23one of those things that you can't have
- 15:27inspiration without experience to a level, you know, and like,
- 15:31I think that, like, what we experience individually and
- 15:36then be able to kind of, like, you know,
- 15:39juice that up with all together with our music. I think that
- 15:43that is. That's. That's the pinnacle, you know?
- 15:47Sure. You know, I mean, we could. We could talk about different artists, we could
- 15:51talk about nature, we could talk about that, but all of that is just life
- 15:54experience. Right. Experience then kind of goes
- 15:58into the inspiration of how. I mean, we are all creatives,
- 16:01and that's what it just feels like we're all here to kind of do.
- 16:04And it's. And I love Jeffrey's answer. I mean, we are all
- 16:08inspired by each other of how we show up. And.
- 16:11And I think that through the experience and kind
- 16:15of going. We leave it. We leave it very
- 16:19STS9, you know. Yeah.
- 16:24There's such a clear identity in it. And,
- 16:28you know, you guys, as a five piece, have now been playing together for
- 16:32over 10 years. And that comfort level, it just seems to come
- 16:37even stronger and stronger with every note you play. And now we
- 16:41get a chance to start to put the. The current iteration of SDSN on
- 16:46wax. And, yeah, it's music us. It's inspire strikes back.
- 16:49And it certainly felt and heard again
- 16:53ever since those first moments where we hear Glass for the first time,
- 16:57and it's like, holy crap. That did not sound like a new song. Right?
- 17:01Yeah. So one.
- 17:05Go ahead. Oh, no, I was just agreeing. Yeah.
- 17:08Yeah. Add to that. Like, just that.
- 17:12Capturing that. And just what you said of, like, having this new experience be on
- 17:16vinyl is. Is. It's really one of the most exciting things about this
- 17:21human dream project, you know, our first, like,
- 17:24real creation as. As that unit and being able to represent
- 17:28our growth and represent our
- 17:32journey, you know, where we've come to in the last 10 years.
- 17:35So. Absolutely. That's. That's a big.
- 17:43Yeah, I mean, I think that, you know. Yeah. I mean, this iteration has
- 17:47just been. I mean, it's. It's. It's all process. Right?
- 17:52It's all a process. So, you know,
- 17:55I know Hunter can really speak to this, but, like, especially, you know,
- 17:59these groups of songs was. It was really like a representation of
- 18:05how we sound, how we sound, how we sound live, how we sound
- 18:09in the studio. It's like, oh, real tricks. It's like, if you're gonna
- 18:13hear us from the record and then you hear it live, it's that. That's what.
- 18:17That's what we're creating. It's not. And that's what we're trying, you know, not even
- 18:20trying but that's what that. That's the intention. That's how it. How it's coming across.
- 18:24And it feels. Feels very authentic to us. It feels very us.
- 18:29Yeah, we've talked a lot about that, and even, like, the little studio talks that
- 18:32we've done and like, you know, we keep pulling
- 18:36on different threads. You know, we keep, you know, Hunter, the mastermind,
- 18:40where he's like. He hears this thing loop and it's like in a song.
- 18:43But then now we have three more songs from that, and it's like, oh,
- 18:46we're all like, chomping it, like, oh, my God, that's so cool. And we all.
- 18:49We're inspired by that and. And what's next and how
- 18:53it all kind of connects if we change the tempo, if he. It's crazy.
- 18:56It's. It's unbelievably fun to say it. Yeah. And.
- 19:00And it's apparent. I mean, I. I think. I think it's really cool what,
- 19:05what you're. What you're saying about. You know, it. You know,
- 19:09the. The. The one that is the classic example so far is It's All
- 19:13Right Turning and. Or Finding the Life of Symphony and Uni. It's all right out
- 19:16of. It's all right than out of. Like, I do first, honestly. Yeah.
- 19:20Yeah. And. But it's. It's. It's like you. This is. This isn't
- 19:25something new with. Throughout your career, you guys have pulled certain
- 19:29parts of certain songs over the years and adapted them, but it's like it's
- 19:33happening in hyperdrive recently. Yeah. It's lossless. Like, that's what it feels
- 19:37like. Yeah. So on the.
- 19:41On one more inspiration question while. While we're here,
- 19:45it's. It's no secret that another kind of facet that you guys are
- 19:49pull a lot of inspiration from is. Is books. We. We know about Peace
- 19:53Blaster. When we had Maureen on, she mentioned, Hunter,
- 19:56that you were reading a civil rights book at the time that was
- 20:00kind of inspiring some of the creation there. You mentioned
- 20:04the Power of Limitations in another interview. Are there any other books that
- 20:08were. Were kind of inspiring, the general direction of this project?
- 20:12Oh, man, that's a great question. You know, all of these projects,
- 20:16when we kind of immerse ourselves in these topics for
- 20:21years at a time, really months and years at a time.
- 20:25And so there's a lot that comes through in that time period
- 20:29that goes into the album, that goes into the theme and the ideas that we're
- 20:33putting out there. It's hard to really pick, like, One or two,
- 20:36and it really is. But I would say there's.
- 20:41Kenneth Clark is someone that. I've just read a bunch of
- 20:44his books over the past few years. He's someone that I've gone back to
- 20:48over and over again. He's an art historian from the
- 20:52early 20th century. And he's just kind
- 20:57of an outsized role in how we experience art today and
- 21:01sharing how through art, through visual arts, how we've
- 21:05gotten to this point today in culture
- 21:10and civilization. I think there's so many things that came out
- 21:15really out of him, different threads
- 21:19that we would pull out, things that he was talking about, books that he'd written.
- 21:24And so that's one that just immediately comes to mind. For sure.
- 21:27There's plenty. We could have another podcast just on that. Hey,
- 21:33we'll save it for your solo episode. But they do this.
- 21:36This is long form discussion and you guys are telling a story. So for sure,
- 21:42let's talk about this rollout. It's extremely unique. Right. And it's
- 21:46really fun to follow along with, whether you're a die hard fan like me or
- 21:50Scotty, or a casual fan or a new fan that's just getting into it where
- 21:54this is the first rollout that you're experience experiencing
- 21:58as STS9 fan. Right. But this rollout, nearly a year long
- 22:02with videos to go along with things, studio interviews,
- 22:05five singles and two EPs already. What really went into
- 22:10that behind the scenes with the Human Dream?
- 22:16We had too many songs. Yeah. I mean,
- 22:20so we. Okay, so we
- 22:24kept writing more songs and then as. As described,
- 22:28like we would come back and be like, hey, we have to record that song.
- 22:31And that happened, you know, many times to
- 22:36the point where we just struggled actually a little bit. How do we
- 22:40share all of this music at once? And what's gonna, you know,
- 22:44so that doesn't get lost, frankly, you know, because if
- 22:48you release 19 tracks, which is what human dream will be, 19 songs,
- 22:52okay. I mean we just felt
- 22:56like we have to split it up somehow. But it was one theme and
- 23:00one thought and one energy of the. The music that
- 23:03we couldn't split it up. Right. And all of us are so old school on
- 23:07the. Like, we love records and we. Yeah. Albums and
- 23:11albums and. And by no means is this like we even said, like it's not
- 23:15a. This isn't a thematic, you know, concept album at
- 23:19all. Like, but there is something that was a thread
- 23:22again that was going through and it's just like we kept going. 19 songs.
- 23:26Okay. What's gone into it is a
- 23:31Lot of just, I think us just trying to enjoy this process of sharing
- 23:35all of this stuff with you guys. And like, how do we do it in
- 23:39a way that's getting. Getting the
- 23:43creative side across? We've just been experimenting a lot.
- 23:46Like all of the different videos and things are
- 23:51kind of us just doing it ourselves and experimenting and having fun with it.
- 23:56Definitely really wanting to tell the story of what.
- 24:00What we're doing. I mean, that's been always something that has been important. How do
- 24:04we tell that story? What's the best way to communicate it? And so, yeah,
- 24:08it's just been super fun. We've just had a great time. Kind of getting
- 24:11into each song and really dissecting them even after the fact has been
- 24:15fun for us too. So, yeah, that's. That's pretty much.
- 24:19That's pretty much what we've been doing just the whole year is just like
- 24:23kind of getting together, recording more,
- 24:27writing more. You know, it's all ongoing, so everything's like
- 24:31it really, when. When the floodgates is no joke, man.
- 24:34This is like, the list is long. So,
- 24:38yeah, we're getting to it. So would
- 24:41you. Would you call all parts of this rollout equal, equal parts fun?
- 24:45Because, I mean, you talked about the Instagram kind of mini interviews that
- 24:49you guys have been doing. I mean, we've hear from you guys on. On a,
- 24:53like an interview level, on a talking level, online, more than we ever have before
- 24:57this year. Is that fun or does that feel more
- 25:02like the work of this whole thing? It's probably
- 25:06a little of both, but I think, Okay, I think that we're open to
- 25:10challenge ourselves to, like, do things that maybe are a little uncomfortable
- 25:14or whatever, because it is that important that we want to share what we
- 25:18are sharing. Right. And so I
- 25:23think it's both. Yeah. Yeah. I mean,
- 25:27I. I'll say it. I mean, it's, you know,
- 25:30we're in a new time. You know what I mean? It's so,
- 25:34you know,
- 25:38we've. We've seen so many different changes.
- 25:42Technology, from you have a CD to
- 25:46going to streaming to all of this stuff. So, you know, us kind
- 25:50of pivoting and adapting. I don't think it was like,
- 25:54just completely natural for us,
- 25:58but, you know, we kind of, you know, there's this thing that we.
- 26:01We. What an opportunity that we get to share,
- 26:05you know, that we. We have the opportunity. I'll.
- 26:08You know, I. I've said this many times. It's still amazing to me that,
- 26:12that. That one person cares
- 26:17enough in this world. In this third dimensional reality that we
- 26:21live in today, in the amount of saturation and what's out there and noise that,
- 26:25that people connect to what we're doing and, and how blessed
- 26:30and grateful we are that we still get to create music. And we, we will
- 26:33create no matter if there was one person to a thousand people, to ten thousand,
- 26:37you know, um, so it feels like this opportunity that
- 26:41it's not like we have to, but we get to.
- 26:45Hey. And it feels, it's. We feel really grateful and blessed
- 26:49that you guys are doing this and the people are coming to the shows
- 26:53and all that. So, you know,
- 26:57I don't know. I think that, that I do know that it feels,
- 27:01it is pushing us, though, creatively. Sure. Outside of our.
- 27:05Outside of realms that, you know, we haven't necessarily,
- 27:09I don't want to say feel comfortable or not comfortable. It's just, you know,
- 27:13just probably you guys starting a podcast, it was like, I remember talking to
- 27:17Nate just being like, I think we're going to do this or outside of.
- 27:20It's outside of yourself. So you grow within that. So I don't know, it feels
- 27:24good. And once like anything, you get comfortable,
- 27:28it becomes more comfortable. And we do laugh and
- 27:32we do have fun doing it, you know, and we have had a lot of
- 27:35fun doing it, you know, so. Yeah, that's.
- 27:39That's what I was gonna say. There's a lot of laughter. Like, we're, I mean,
- 27:42you know, we are laughing a lot
- 27:46once we get going. We're just being silly and
- 27:50fun and doing our thing and just kind of, you know,
- 27:54also just we. We enjoy being around each other. So that's not,
- 27:58you know what I'm saying? Like, it's, it's. It's like, okay, you're just hanging out
- 28:01with your friends and getting to create things about your music that you made.
- 28:04We're just like, whoa. Like, okay, if we just look at it like that,
- 28:08it totally changes the perspective.
- 28:11Yeah, I would agree. Yeah, I, I agree completely. And. And with
- 28:15both of what, you know, what, you know, you both said on the,
- 28:19you know, I think personally speaking, there's a part of it too. It's like,
- 28:25you know, music is so powerful partly because it's music
- 28:28and you're not talking about it, you know, and that's partly why
- 28:33I feel so comfortable making music. That's where I can,
- 28:36you know, express myself the best, the most openly, the most freely.
- 28:41And having to talk about it sometimes is just. It's really
- 28:44new. It's something that I just, you Know, it's. You know,
- 28:48it's definitely different, and it's a blessing, but at the
- 28:52same time, it's. It's having to, you know,
- 28:56kind of face the fact that. Yeah. I mean, part of this is so.
- 28:59Is. Is a struggle, personally, because, you know, music is this kind of comfort zone
- 29:04where it is this complete freedom to express and really say things
- 29:07that are hard to say otherwise. And two,
- 29:11I think music is most powerful when it's
- 29:15experience. You know, I think I sometimes worry about,
- 29:19you know, not. Not worried, but I think it's like, I just know that
- 29:24music is most powerful in this experience. You really can't explain anything to somebody.
- 29:28You really got to let them experience to. To feel that magic, to really believe
- 29:31it and to say, I know it. You know, it's nothing. I'm going to sit
- 29:34here and tell you that's going to get you to. You know what I mean?
- 29:36Yeah. To understand that. But I. But I hope
- 29:40this helps you, you know, get to the. To the headphones and to the,
- 29:44you know, and to. To check us out kind of thing. So it's amazing,
- 29:48and it's a blessing. And it's also led us to, like, really create new things,
- 29:51and I think that's another big part of it, too. It's like really
- 29:55wanting to just leave everything on the field artistically this year, this year,
- 29:59in preparation in the rollout for this album, you know,
- 30:04pushing every creative button in our spirit to
- 30:09really try to do everything we can to express what we're trying to, you know,
- 30:11to give to the world. Right. Share with the world right now. And so that
- 30:14has been fulfilling and devouring at the same time,
- 30:18you know, so it is just. It's an incredible blessing
- 30:23and couldn't be more thankful and, you know, and y' all
- 30:27are just a perfect representation of that, you know, talking to, you know, two of
- 30:31our biggest, you know, two people we know so well that we see all the
- 30:34shows and we've, you know, kind of had these experiences together with. So we feel
- 30:37comfortable talking to y' all about them. But it's interesting. It's been
- 30:41an interesting rollout because of all the things that we've done that have been kind
- 30:43of brand new. Sure. Yeah. Hunter, I just.
- 30:47I just want to take a second. The way that you just described music is
- 30:51the way that I describe y' all to people. I mean, there's somebody
- 30:55that's going to listen to this tomorrow and go, that's the way you described them
- 30:58to me before. You brought me to the. To my First.
- 31:01Yeah, it's. I do our best. Yeah.
- 31:04I have this thing where if somebody is curious about STS9
- 31:09the first tickets on me, because I can't explain this
- 31:13to you. I have. You heard me Intro at almost 300,000 seconds
- 31:18of talking about y'. All. I can't do it. Like, I have to put
- 31:22someone in front of. In front of you for them to be like,
- 31:25ah, okay, I get this now. You know,
- 31:29you just gotta feel it. Yeah. Zach, Zach, you talked about the
- 31:33third dimensional world. I thought if we learned anything in the Tabby at The tabby
- 31:37in 2015 is that there's four dimensions. Right? So,
- 31:41Hunter, music. Yeah, yeah. But when we're talking like this, we're in the third dimension,
- 31:44bro. That's fair. That's fair.
- 31:48We'll stay in our lane for sure,
- 31:52you guys. And you've already kind of hit on it.
- 31:56What has the human dream added to the creative team dynamic of STS9?
- 32:00All hands on deck. All hands on deck.
- 32:04All hands on deck. There you go. Yeah, well said. It is.
- 32:08It's full on. It's full on. We have.
- 32:12I mean, we can't speak highly enough of actually who's behind the
- 32:17scenes helping share our
- 32:22creative vision with us. You know what I mean? It's top
- 32:28notch. Completely top notch. Yeah. We've had
- 32:31to reach out and make some new relationships to help us kind of, you know,
- 32:34to make sure that we had some extra reach. And it's just been incredible.
- 32:38It really has. We've got an incredible team and
- 32:42it's. It's exciting. It really is.
- 32:46On that team, you guys have added a. A.
- 32:49A good friend of ours, somebody I've known for a very long time,
- 32:53and somebody that's been a guest on this podcast before. Taylor, Houston, Morgan.
- 32:57Just it. Talk my boy up for a second. Tell us
- 33:01what adding him. Adding him to the team has. Has. Has done to.
- 33:05To the. To. To Yalls creative process in general.
- 33:08That's easy. Who wants to go first? I mean, Hunter, you should go.
- 33:12I'll follow you up. Oh, man. It's just.
- 33:15He's like a six member, you know, he's like a six for the band.
- 33:19You know, in. In a. Just a real way. Just in the terms of someone
- 33:25that we can talk to outside of the bubble that we've created
- 33:29for each other, you know, that. That we trust and
- 33:33that we can just kind of dream this in with. That someone can go out
- 33:36as kind of a scalp and then bring back and then that we can like,
- 33:40really flesh things out with and then Me and him will have just hours long
- 33:44conversations about just the minutiae of certain things. I mean, like, of just real
- 33:48nerdy art stuff. That's just incredible to be able to do that with
- 33:52someone who's just so, so good at what
- 33:56they do and just so, you know,
- 33:59just hungry like we are to create and just so right there,
- 34:03you know, wanting to just do the best and constantly pushing themselves to
- 34:07find that, that next, you know, step in their creative journey.
- 34:11And he's definitely helped us find ours and so get into
- 34:15all kind of details about that. But it's been incredible to kind of have a
- 34:18new team member brother to help us share our vision.
- 34:23And that's who Taylor is. Absolutely. Thank you, Taylor. Yeah,
- 34:27absolutely. I mean, I can show you my text messages where it's like, hey,
- 34:30can you talk for a sec? And then that sec, we call each other
- 34:34and then it's like literally an hour and 15 minutes later. It's like we always
- 34:38do this because it's just like where we, where the conversation leads is
- 34:42beyond. And how he has, like,
- 34:45really. I don't know,
- 34:49man, how he's kind of stepped his game up as well, but like
- 34:53how he sees and can kind of like automatically read between the lines.
- 34:58He's kind of also like a one, like one step ahead. And it's,
- 35:02it's, it's. It's just such a pleasure to kind of align
- 35:08with that because in our, in, in how we.
- 35:12All of the assets that have to happen not only for an album,
- 35:16but also just for a
- 35:20show or merchandise or adma, all of those pieces, it's so.
- 35:24There's so much minutiae and to just give
- 35:28him one more shout out of just like how he,
- 35:38how he. The cohesive.
- 35:42It might be him. Yeah, right. It might be him. The cohesiveness
- 35:46of how he helps facilitate that is just,
- 35:49It's. It's really, really amazing. We care a
- 35:53lot about our. How we present ourselves with the art and the music and the
- 35:57assets, the branding, the log logos, all of that. And he helps
- 36:01us more than anyone and keep that consistency where
- 36:06everything you see from us has this certain kind of touch to it that,
- 36:09you know, from, you know, you know, that it had our, you know, that.
- 36:12That we're on the details that we care at that level, because we do.
- 36:16And so he's really not only helping us do that, but pushing us
- 36:20to do that. And, and, and it's just an absolutely.
- 36:24Just a, you know, it's a, It's. We're a team. We're a true team
- 36:28helping each other. You know, he's bringing stuff to us, we're bringing stuff to him.
- 36:30We're collaborating, he's creating, we're creating. And it's
- 36:34just. This is what it's all about, really. It's a huge part of why we
- 36:38love doing what we do is that part of it is sharing the kind
- 36:42of propaganda of it all. You know, being able to put these things that we
- 36:45care about into every little bit of everything that we do. Whether it's a video
- 36:49that's going out, it's got a little tag at the end of it or an
- 36:52asset that goes out, that's a show poster or whatever, it's got some, you know,
- 36:55the story is there to pull. There's things that people like you,
- 36:59you guys are going to recognize. Maybe new fans won't, but they'll start to.
- 37:03And they'll start to see that it's. It's our world. And he's, he's helping
- 37:07shape that world and he's making sure that it is coming across the way
- 37:11we all expect it to and want it to. And that's a huge
- 37:15thing because that's really hard to do across a team that's maybe, you know,
- 37:1915, 20 people. And so to have someone like that that's
- 37:23making sure that, that, that everything is on that level, that's really important to us.
- 37:27It really is. We've had. We have. We've had trouble in the past. We really
- 37:30have. People just take that over without. Just take it over. They're going to use
- 37:34a different logo. They're going to not use the right typography or the right font
- 37:38or. I mean, it's like, interesting in the amount of energy and time that it
- 37:41takes to like, it's, it's. It's. You don't
- 37:45even know. So, like, it has. We're on a level. It feels
- 37:49like we are. We're on a level right now. It looks like it. Yeah.
- 37:52Elevating those things. Absolutely. Like, we've kind of brought a certain.
- 37:57What would you call it, flip, like brand identity. Identity that.
- 38:02You know what I mean? He's. He's not only keeping that going but. But elevating
- 38:06it at every turn. And so. Yeah.
- 38:10Well, those are awesome words. And it comes through visually
- 38:14and sonically for sure with, with this project. But let's get
- 38:18back to. Back to sonically. You talk about all
- 38:22hands on deck and Brad a few weeks ago talked to us about giving
- 38:26you guys the fishing pole. Right. So,
- 38:30Phipps, for you specifically. Brad Pinpointed like you guys really
- 38:34honing in on, on the modular side of things. Right.
- 38:37And, and we start to see, we started to see that infused in
- 38:42the late 2010s a lot with their music. But it's almost kind of like
- 38:46getting itself to a point where it's a fully ingrained in your
- 38:50guys's music technically. What has changed for you guys between
- 38:54this release and your last release with the Universe Inside
- 38:57that has helped you create something like this?
- 39:06Wow. The modular
- 39:10has been around for a good minute. Oh for sure. Yeah.
- 39:16We met John Hughes
- 39:20in Chicago and were
- 39:24kind of introduced into a Eurorack modular
- 39:28system in early days of this of modular
- 39:33synthesizers where there's a handful of manufacturers
- 39:38almost on one or two hands.
- 39:42And so we've always had inspired by that.
- 39:45We've always had a modular of some sort in the studio.
- 39:50How, how we've kind of honed,
- 39:55honed our use of it and how
- 39:58we can deploy it on stage. Kind of
- 40:04reliable with some reliability.
- 40:07But also why open
- 40:11create creative palette at the same time has been
- 40:15a long journey. Has, has pretty much taken the full 15 years
- 40:20with modulars to figure out exactly how
- 40:24we want to do it and, and love to do it on stage
- 40:29is with the most options and, but tightness
- 40:33as well. You know,
- 40:36it's, it's one of those things that I mean I just
- 40:41have like tons and tons of modules and synthesizers
- 40:45and I have a rig at home and a rig here
- 40:48and the one that goes on the road.
- 40:53And each, each collection kind of teaches its own thing
- 40:58about what's. I don't know,
- 41:03what's cool. Yeah. I mean
- 41:07pretty much modular. Yeah. I mean it, it's.
- 41:12Yeah. You've had it, you've, you've had it for so long.
- 41:16Right? But Zach said it a few minutes ago. I mean this album
- 41:20is what you guys sound like now. And whether,
- 41:24whether it's Dusk or Shaky Ground or you know,
- 41:27what have you, there's so much more,
- 41:31so, so many more moments on what we've heard from these first two
- 41:35eps where the modular front and center at points and
- 41:38you know, in a, in a much more established
- 41:42way than organic way. Right. Than in, than in past
- 41:46works, you know, at all.
- 41:49So I, I, I think, I think that work that you guys have been putting
- 41:53in is, is, is more obvious than ever on, on, you know,
- 41:57on these, these two projects that you guys are here to talk about right now.
- 42:01We appreciate that such a high fidelity sound.
- 42:05It's, it's like hi Fi but analog and, and and
- 42:09chaotic at the same time on stage and on the recordings.
- 42:13It's. It's on its own channels, you know what I mean? It's like. Yeah,
- 42:17from the synthesizers or the pianos,
- 42:21the sounds coming from my risers. The modular is its own thing
- 42:25and it's treated that way and mixed that. Way and.
- 42:31Yeah, it's probably. Yeah, it's cool. I think the integration.
- 42:35I just want to say, if I could speak to it like, I think the
- 42:37integration has. It really has been integrated more than, dare I
- 42:41say, an afterthought. Do you know what I mean? To where. Yeah, it's more integrated
- 42:45into the initial thing rather than. Okay, cool,
- 42:49here's the song. Now we're going to go and just to a four minute modular
- 42:53after the song. Yeah, 100. We're still doing that.
- 42:57But it's. It feels more integrated to the whole sound. To where it
- 43:01doesn't feel like. And yeah, it's not start stop
- 43:04anymore. Yeah, it's all together as. As one sound. We're moving together as
- 43:08one sound. And I mean all of us literally, you know, have. Have really
- 43:12helped with that, especially just with like prepping for a show,
- 43:16you know what I mean? Just honestly, in some of those realms. So it's,
- 43:19it's really. Yeah,
- 43:22yeah. I mean, so let's talk about some of those songs that, that, that are.
- 43:26That are out. None of these are songs that, that we haven't heard before in
- 43:31a live setting. But we've got a few that you drop guys dropped
- 43:35as singles and then a few kind of surprises, so to speak, on this album
- 43:39of stuff that, you know, we didn't know was getting the studio treatment or not.
- 43:43Starting with. It's all right.
- 43:46Hold on. Wait. Did I. Am I, am I starting with like I do
- 43:50start. Sorry. Starting with like I do. My bad.
- 43:53This one is unique to everything else you guys have done so far because
- 43:58it stems from Rave spell back in 2019.
- 44:01Was. Was this one of the ones that stuck out to you guys
- 44:05after that night? Or did you feel like it immediately had potential to
- 44:09have an important spot like this in the Cat?
- 44:14Like I do? Yeah, yeah, I think so. I think
- 44:18it was immediately interesting in a couple of different ways.
- 44:22Just rhythmically, it's really unique and different and kind
- 44:26of difficult, honestly. Very. Yeah. For us it kind of got. You know what I
- 44:30mean? And that wasn't really. It took us a little bit to
- 44:34kind of recognize that, I think. But it was just something really different and new
- 44:37and interesting. I think we really wanted to push that and See where it would
- 44:40take us. We're trying several kind of new things on that. A new time signature.
- 44:44New. Yeah. You know, and so it just felt
- 44:49fun and kind of like a new, you know, something new and interesting. So we
- 44:52definitely wanted to keep pursuing that, get it to a place where it felt like
- 44:55a finished record. So I think that was. That was one of the,
- 44:58you know, that was a part of the first group where we knew this
- 45:03was going to be an album. This was going to be a collection of music
- 45:06that was going somewhere. This was starting to hit on, okay. Like, what STS9
- 45:11was now becoming. With Alana fully integrated into the band.
- 45:15I think that's ultimately. That's a. Musically speaking, that is part
- 45:19of what human dream is. It is kind
- 45:23of a representation of where we are right now. Like you said, like we've been
- 45:27talking about. That was really important to us, really get that on. Because we never
- 45:31really looked at an album like that before in the past. Most albums that we've
- 45:35created, that we've made, we've looked at the studio as kind of its own creative
- 45:38experience. And we still do. That's. That's still part of making any, Any,
- 45:42Any work in the studio. But with this,
- 45:46the. The, you know, the spirit of this wanted to remain live,
- 45:49you know, it wanted to remain. Like, we want to be able to recognize
- 45:55this and be able to play, you know, it just. I don't know, it just.
- 45:57We want it to be a snapshot of what we actually sound like right now.
- 46:00And. Yeah, well, it's. Yeah. Stems from a night of improv, so that's
- 46:05about as loud as it gets, right? Yeah, it does. Yeah. For sure. Well,
- 46:08I mean, I just remember. I'm just going to say artifact. I remember, like,
- 46:10we did fact, and then we had to learn how to do it. Yeah,
- 46:14yeah, like, how to do it. You know, like we
- 46:17did. How do we play these songs live, right. 10 years later.
- 46:23That was intentional, too, because we wanted to make an album
- 46:27that wasn't playing live because that's all we did.
- 46:30Oh, yeah.
- 46:34I love this track. You talk about the challenging parts of it. It's almost two
- 46:38songs in one, right? With that, that. That rhythm break that
- 46:42happens. And with this studio version, like, it's almost like you
- 46:46hear it and like, it's like, okay, like it's. It sounds like every time you
- 46:50guys change it up, like they've got it right. Not that,
- 46:53not that you didn't have it before, but it's like, wow, they've done it again.
- 46:56Right? And the playfulness of this song already. I mean,
- 47:00it's had huge moments. I think back to the 2022 Eastern version. 14 plus
- 47:05minutes, absolute dance party. That was a hell of a night. And then just recently
- 47:08in Dylan, you get that mashup with Shock
- 47:13Doctrine, man. I mean,
- 47:16you talk about mixing the old with the new, and that's so playful.
- 47:20And a lot of the stuff that, you know us as fans, that's why.
- 47:24That's why you go to the 100 plus shows, right, to see stuff like that.
- 47:27Well, you've also got. Because you got to see that version actually played correctly.
- 47:33We had a major technical difficulty, you know, doing like I Do Dylan.
- 47:38And so we can't. I still hurt from that. I'm still like, listen,
- 47:42I. I'm still. I can't stop rinsing it. Like,
- 47:46I'm not just listening to it. Yeah, we're gonna have a better version sooner than
- 47:50later. So that's. That's. That's funny,
- 47:53too, because we were. I was staying right there in those condos, and y' all
- 47:56must have worked that for 30 minutes during soundcheck.
- 48:00Just over and over and over. I was like, that one's gonna be special when
- 48:04they get it off. What's happening with this one? Yeah, it was.
- 48:08Let's do one last thing with, like, I do. A lot of people might not
- 48:12know this. Like, it's stemming from Find Another Woman by Raina,
- 48:16right? But it, like, it keeps
- 48:21that, like, old school rave mentality in mind, but, like, elevates it
- 48:25to 20, 25. STS 9. Like, where. Where does that come from?
- 48:29What comes first? Chicken and egg scenario. Like, was it those,
- 48:33you know, that. That vocal hook,
- 48:37that. That kind of inspired it or did. Was it like, kind of being like,
- 48:39oh, this fits pretty well with that? It was the chords. The chords came first
- 48:43and then the. Actually, no, it was the arp. The melody, basically,
- 48:47the da da da da da da da da that came first, then the chords
- 48:51and then the beat. And then. So it was the music that came first.
- 48:55We really had the music first. And then it was just like, this is just.
- 48:59Just wants a hook. You know what I mean? That's why I got to hear.
- 49:02I was looking for actually, like a, you know, like an mc.
- 49:06You know, I tried a bunch of different things like that. That's what I thought
- 49:09originally. That, you know, that's. That's what we were going for. And I've,
- 49:13you know, got so many acapellas and just kind of running.
- 49:17Just. And the truth is just kind of running through a bunch of different stuff,
- 49:20and then you stumble on something like, Whoa, wait, what. What is this? This is
- 49:24kind of. And it honestly kind of just. It's. I mean,
- 49:27I'm, like, testing stuff, and it's like. It's not exactly on time.
- 49:31It's just. You can get a sense of, like, how things are kind of working
- 49:34without it being perfect. This was perfect. It was just like. For a
- 49:38minute, it just, like, played out, just sitting there, like, what is going on here?
- 49:41You know? And then you follow those things. When those kind of things happen,
- 49:44you just kind of, you know, you give thanks and you don't ask questions and
- 49:47you move on.
- 49:53Next track. Next. Next question.
- 49:57Magic. All that magic. That's right. That's right,
- 50:00Scotty. Now let's talk about. It's all right, right? Yeah.
- 50:04This song gives Empire vibes with the. With the vocal sample,
- 50:08distortion. Do you guys ever throw
- 50:12in, like, intentional callbacks to previous stuff?
- 50:16Well, yes, Especially live,
- 50:20obviously. Sure. And then there's things that just naturally
- 50:24come out. We'll be recording something new in one of us.
- 50:28Like, Phips will play something. It's like, wait, that's this song.
- 50:32I'm playing this improper. Yeah, this part of this song that. Yeah.
- 50:35And so something will be inspired by something old
- 50:38or. Or there will be actual kind
- 50:42of remnants that will show back up in a new piece.
- 50:46We're not afraid to do that either. And so. Yeah, yeah, we. Yeah,
- 50:50we've heard that with the chords. I think we heard, like, the progression of the
- 50:53unquestionable Supremacy of Nature chords until, like, get loud. Right. Like, it's,
- 50:57like, really cool to experience that. But like, with these vocals, like.
- 51:00Yeah, just like that super kind of like eerie, echoey, like,
- 51:04Empires intro that you're hearing. Let's talk about those
- 51:08samples. What are the origins of the samples and what
- 51:12exactly are we hearing there?
- 51:15Well, the Origin of the Sample is a pretty kind of obscure dance
- 51:20record. And so that's got. I can't remember exactly
- 51:24what it is right now, but it's got a bunch of acapellas like that.
- 51:27And so that was the. You know,
- 51:32that was the sample, more or less. It was just like finding something that you
- 51:36really resonate with in the moment because something is going on in the world that
- 51:40feels like this is. This addresses something that feels,
- 51:43you know, pertinent right now. And that did somehow.
- 51:47And so I think, you know, it was just having a message like
- 51:51that that has a little bit of attitude. The guy just says it with this
- 51:54kind of adject I don't know what it is. I kind of like that.
- 51:56And. You don't really know what they're saying either.
- 52:01Yeah, it's just got this kind of vibe. Well, it's just. He's welcoming everybody and
- 52:05anybody into the house, you know. You know, it's. It's just
- 52:09like, no matter who you are or where you come from,
- 52:13you are welcome here. That is. That's ultimately what he's saying.
- 52:17And that. That is. And. And it's about the music. It's about welcoming each other
- 52:21and embracing each other through the music and letting the music being that.
- 52:26That place where we can meet in those ways.
- 52:30So it's all right. That's part of what that is. It's like, you know,
- 52:33there's a. There's a. You know, life is built in this
- 52:36way that is symphonic. And it is all. Not only is. It's all right,
- 52:40it's good, and it's great, beautiful, and it's a blessing. And it's. You know,
- 52:44it's. There's no words for it. It's a symphony,
- 52:48as people would say. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:52It's like this. At the core of life, it is unfathomably
- 52:57blue, unfathomably beautiful. And wanting to
- 53:01kind of tap into that, to use it as a way to say, you know,
- 53:05we're all welcome here in this beautiful place.
- 53:08Yeah. But it's, like. Reminded me something, too,
- 53:13actually. We were playing today recently. I forget what it
- 53:17was. We played a couple times. Yeah, you were. Thank you for that.
- 53:22Thank you. Thank you for that. Yeah.
- 53:26Out of it. Yeah. I really, really loved that song.
- 53:33That was, for me.
- 53:37I wasn't sure if that was actually mine. I. Yeah. Thank you.
- 53:41Thank you. Wow. What a treat. So that was
- 53:45the first time I actually realized that. That one
- 53:49of the parts in today is basically one of the parts and get loud and
- 53:52just. I didn't realize it until the Boulder theater, like, on stage three
- 53:56weeks ago. Wait a second. This is almost exactly that part. So things like,
- 54:00sneak back up into music. You can't get away from certain things,
- 54:04and it's just who you are, and it's just okay to kind of express those
- 54:07in different contexts, you know? Yeah. I mean, that. That's like,
- 54:11you know, that's so true. It's. You know, that's Miles Davis right
- 54:15there, man. That's what he did. You know, you can listen to Miles Davis from
- 54:19the 50s and then Miles Davis in the 80s, and he's playing the same lines.
- 54:22It's just, you know. Yeah. You Guys are like, creating standards.
- 54:27Well, well, it's a language. It's like a language, you know,
- 54:31and so we have this sort of language between us that's,
- 54:34you know, it keeps going and going and
- 54:38going, but it's always kind of there in the. Everything we do.
- 54:42It's that through line. Right.
- 54:45Fun story about. It's all right. I wanted to just share with you
- 54:49because I feel like you'll appreciate it. So I. I went out of
- 54:53town. Like, I don't know, like, I had to go be with my family for
- 54:56some family thing for a couple weeks. And in between, oh, we did Bonnaroo.
- 55:00And then I. I was in Nashville, right. With my family. These guys went back
- 55:04to Santa Cruz. I get a call like, yeah, what? We're going to play Electric
- 55:08Forest. We have a new song.
- 55:11We want to do it at Electric Forest. I'm like, I don't
- 55:15have a base at home. I don't have. What do you mean? You want me
- 55:19to, like, play. I'm. I'm like, well, Hunter, can you send it to me?
- 55:23Yeah. You leave these guys alone for one week and they've read,
- 55:27okay, we're playing Electric Force. You're just gonna walk out and
- 55:31play a new song, Electric. Okay. Not just a new song, but one I had
- 55:34never heard prior to that. And so I'm like, at my
- 55:38mom's wall, my dad has like a keyboard. So I'm like, on the keyboard,
- 55:43like. Hey, I could not do this. I'm like, here's a
- 55:47part. Okay. No, I'm like, here's a part of like. I got this.
- 55:51It's cool. We show up and just like rock that song.
- 55:55I mean, not only the first time we played it, but literally the.
- 55:58I mean, the. The first time we played it together.
- 56:04It'S dance floor napalm, I like to call it for sure. Right off the bat,
- 56:07I think we. And it went right into inspire, didn't it? I think it went
- 56:10right into inspire. It might have, yeah. I think we even. I'm the statistian.
- 56:14I can check on that. As Scotty as.
- 56:18So just don't really have a portal question. Just got a selfish
- 56:22ask. Can we make this like a 15 minute ordeal? I mean,
- 56:27good. Yeah. Portal. Yeah.
- 56:30Oh, absolutely. Let's do it. I just wanna.
- 56:33I wanna live in that song.
- 56:37That, that and that and symphony so far are.
- 56:41Are the two ones for me. That symphony in particular. I just
- 56:45cannot believe how well that song and
- 56:49how quickly that song feels like you guys have been playing it for eight to
- 56:54ten Years. It's huge. It steals sets and
- 56:59it's, you know, one of the newer ones. Right.
- 57:02When. When was that recorded in the scheme of humans?
- 57:06January. Yeah. January. Yeah. Wow.
- 57:09And yeah, let's get. Let's. Let's get that upright involved in it. Right?
- 57:13That's. That sounds so smooth on the recording. Is that the first upright bass
- 57:17involved in a studio recording for sds Portal. On Portal.
- 57:21Yeah. No, because. Light years.
- 57:26All right. And okay, there's a couple things on. On. I always try
- 57:30to get it in there, so. Well, usually Hunter's like put some up
- 57:34right up somewhere. But yeah, I was. Yeah, there's a
- 57:38couple things on. On Universal side. But yeah, this was really fun to
- 57:43do. I don't think I had really done. We had not done a song like
- 57:46that with the upright for sure. So. And that was
- 57:50super special because I. I got a new.
- 57:54A new one that's like my at home upright bass
- 57:58that I don't take out because it's so awesome. Oh man.
- 58:02And. But I will take. I do. I do take it out if I'm in
- 58:05Denver, but I don't take it on the road. But it's recorded on
- 58:09that base as the first recording of that instrument. So cool. It's pretty cool.
- 58:13Yeah. It's pretty stunning. Yeah. Stat check.
- 58:16That was never, never into Inspire to start that. And then
- 58:20it was. It's lift you up into 2012
- 58:24into the tsara. It's all right. Into like I do like you.
- 58:28You didn't just play you like I do. That's what it was. Yeah, yeah,
- 58:31yeah, yeah. You put it into a four song segment where you didn'. So there's
- 58:35another challenge for sure. And I think never, never they change.
- 58:39You got. We changed the arrangement of it right before that. That was different.
- 58:42That was. That either I was like, okay, Electric Force,
- 58:46let's go. And just back. Life's a Symphony
- 58:50was written, I mean brand new in January. Portal to
- 58:54the story Path was written. Well at least the first parts of that were last
- 58:58year. Like you know, spring of last year maybe I think maybe even. Yeah,
- 59:02a little bit longer than that. That's been. We've had that kind of kicking around
- 59:04for a second, but not the. The kind of main thrust of it. All the
- 59:08melodies and all that came kind of the end of last year and it really,
- 59:11you know, came together. It's got a sample related question
- 59:15that that kind of encompasses a bunch of these songs.
- 59:18You talked on Strange Games about not getting the. Sorry.
- 59:22You talked on Instagram about Strange Games Specifically, and not getting the
- 59:26sample cleared from Outkast.
- 59:29Seems like you interpolated the shaky ground sample
- 59:34with. Is that Armani that we're hearing on that? Yes. Okay,
- 59:38let. I just. I just have a sample clearance question, honestly.
- 59:42What. What is that process like? And you know,
- 59:46obviously with Strange Games, it didn't. But have you ever been working on
- 59:50a song that's kind of built around a sample that gets.
- 59:53That gets denied and it's kind of. Well, that's the end of it.
- 59:56Or, you know, to what we've kind of been talking about? Does that song just
- 59:59kind of turn into something else at that point? You know, we've got songs that
- 1:00:03were built on things that we never thought about even trying to. You know what
- 1:00:06I mean? Just kind of fun. Sure. But we've never had a song that we've
- 1:00:10made that has been kind of held up because of. Or that we've had to
- 1:00:13just give up on because of sample. I mean, one of the biggest things is,
- 1:00:16you know, sample samples and sampling is about 5%
- 1:00:21of our music. Yeah. And it's. And. And it's. And it's 99
- 1:00:25of it is vocals. Right. I mean, we care very
- 1:00:30much. I mean, one of the biggest things that. I mean, something we care the
- 1:00:33most about is being a band and playing instruments and writing music
- 1:00:38that we play and, And. And doing that together and recording
- 1:00:42it ourselves and. And do you be, you know, doing that whole thing, creating our
- 1:00:46own samples, you know, more or less. And so it's like the. The ones
- 1:00:51that we've had issues with have been kind of ridiculous ass from the beginning,
- 1:00:54like. Sure. It's like, hey, can we have your biggest hit? You know,
- 1:00:58it's like, you know, it was just. It was like, you know, you just kind
- 1:01:02of throw it out there, see what happens. It was something just for fun that
- 1:01:04we never thought it would go that far. You know what I mean? You put
- 1:01:07together for a show, this is gonna be amazing. And you're like, oh, this can
- 1:01:10go on the album. How are we. How are we gonna do this? You know,
- 1:01:11but really, those kind of open. At least Strange Games in particular,
- 1:01:15opened up a way for us to find like something like brand new
- 1:01:19in the music, you know, And I think we love. I mean, I think we
- 1:01:22love what's there now way more than what was there. I mean, it's fun.
- 1:01:25We love Big Boy 100. Yeah. As far as music, as far as, like the,
- 1:01:29you know, the legacy of that song recorded legacy
- 1:01:33of that song, it's much more in A place now that we, you know,
- 1:01:37it's. It's closer to our heart now than it was.
- 1:01:40And so some things are just. They work out for the better,
- 1:01:44but the process in itself is like. It's just like a lot of.
- 1:01:49A lot of busy work. A lot of suits. Yeah, the work. You don't
- 1:01:53really know what's going to stop something like. So we went a long way trying
- 1:01:57to get shaking ground. We had it for all we knew. We had
- 1:02:01a price, we had a deal, we had all of that. And at the last
- 1:02:05minute, actually, someone else came in and said, actually, we're not licensing
- 1:02:09any of this artist's music at all. So it's not that. Not giving it to
- 1:02:12you, not doing this. It's like this is not available to anyone. It's just not
- 1:02:15for sale. Yeah. So you just kind of run into all kind of stuff like
- 1:02:19that that, you know, you just never know what it's going to be. But you
- 1:02:21try your best. And we are really. We care a lot about.
- 1:02:25About crediting and giving credit to those that we
- 1:02:29are inspired by and that we, you know, actually use anything from. And we've had
- 1:02:33samples that we tried for years finding the, you know, the artist who we knew
- 1:02:37it was. We just couldn't get any answer back. Couldn't get any from them.
- 1:02:40And so, you know, it's a. It's kind of. It's a real.
- 1:02:43It's always different. The sample is. Is a. Is a. Is always
- 1:02:48something different. There's nothing kind of, you know, usual about it.
- 1:02:52And it's a major headache. And I think for us, it's way more fun
- 1:02:56just to create our own music, you know, but everyone, you know, we come from
- 1:03:00that era and we come from that music, and so it's gonna seep it.
- 1:03:04It's gonna find its way into what we do. And when it does,
- 1:03:07we've got a pretty good protocol
- 1:03:12to how to get it done. Got people who help us do that. There's people
- 1:03:14that we hire to actually go out and take care of that. There's people who
- 1:03:17actually do that for a living. It's like they. What's the sample? What's the information?
- 1:03:21I will go and get the deal for you. More or less.
- 1:03:25It's a major game out there that everyone struggles
- 1:03:29with. Yeah, a great look under the head there. We use samples and
- 1:03:33maybe the way others do. I mean, I think it's. It's there to embellish
- 1:03:38and accentuate the music, that if the sample goes
- 1:03:42away, there's still the Integrity of the music. It's not dependent on that,
- 1:03:45Right? Absolutely. I think that's a different. A distinguishment
- 1:03:49in the way that we use that.
- 1:03:53For sure. And like talking skimming in
- 1:03:56the next song of the ep. Right. Walk the sky just to hit on it.
- 1:04:01I mean, this is like the crowning drum and bass achievement of this record.
- 1:04:04It sounds like Zach basically evaporates into thin air every
- 1:04:08time we break it down live. And just to hit on
- 1:04:13it, no real questions on it. It just sounds like one of those songs that
- 1:04:16the world needs right now, you know, come together, hand in hand,
- 1:04:19time to be free. Yeah. And it just seems like,
- 1:04:23you know, in times of social and political turmoil,
- 1:04:26that can influence your art and inspire people to come together.
- 1:04:30So that one is so awesome. And to. For Alana to
- 1:04:34be sampled vocally on that is. Is. Is really cool.
- 1:04:38And it just sounds awesome. But,
- 1:04:42sky, we'll. We'll finish things off. Yeah.
- 1:04:46Let's talk about. We've been talking a whole lot about the. The human dream.
- 1:04:50Let's talk about the human nightmare that is
- 1:04:54Dusk. Oh, my God.
- 1:04:59Was that a good nightmare? It sounds. No, the best nightmare.
- 1:05:02Like my favorite. My favorite kind of fish. Fish. This is evil soundtrack.
- 1:05:06And that's my favorite soundtrack, too. Was this song written in a
- 1:05:10graveyard? No, but it's. It's funny that you say that.
- 1:05:14It really. It's because it does come from. You know, the inspiration behind
- 1:05:19that song definitely is. You know,
- 1:05:23I don't know how to put it. You know, it comes from a more violent
- 1:05:26kind of music, I guess. Yeah. No, it makes me feel like I'm walking in
- 1:05:30mud. Yes. You know, there's some.
- 1:05:33There's some producers. I love that. There's some,
- 1:05:37like, you know, some producers and some, you know, some groups right now that I
- 1:05:41just. I mean, I'm just a hip hop, you know, I mean,
- 1:05:45I just love hip hop. Always had same, always will. I still always listen
- 1:05:49to, you know, and so it's. There's definitely some new kind of.
- 1:05:53There's a. I don't know. It's. There's. It's hard to get that feeling.
- 1:05:58To kind of conjure this feeling of like something is not
- 1:06:02quite right. There's a.
- 1:06:06There's like a. You know, I've got my senses up in a new way.
- 1:06:09Yeah. You know, and. And I need to. And wow. And, you know,
- 1:06:13that kind of music, it's the best way to explain. And there's a power maybe,
- 1:06:17too, that kind of. It kind of gives you this certain kind of you know,
- 1:06:21confidence, or it's meant to kind of with my. You know, with your senses up
- 1:06:26and everything's kind of. Yeah, yeah. It's got this whole.
- 1:06:29That music fascinates me on every level. And I don't know why, but that's
- 1:06:33some of my favorite music is really just hard, dirty,
- 1:06:36kind of, you know, like, as you say, like evil.
- 1:06:40I don't know. Some of those just, you know, mob deep. I mean,
- 1:06:44just you can think of like all these kind of classic. Yeah. It's just.
- 1:06:47It does something that. That few other genres of
- 1:06:52music do. And so. Yeah. Mafia. Yeah. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:06:55I see the Griselda stuff. Conductor Dylan. Hell yeah.
- 1:06:58Hunter. Yeah. That's like some of the. That's, like, inspiring that
- 1:07:02me and Phips are like, listening to some of that. I'm assuming this, like,
- 1:07:05you know, let's. You know. And then he comes in, like, the roads. And she's
- 1:07:08like, oh, you know. Yeah. There was a moment where he came
- 1:07:12in on that at Dylan. And, like, you looked over and you were like,
- 1:07:15yes, okay. There's a lot of that. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:19I. I honestly, I've moved differently ever since I heard it for the first time.
- 1:07:22So. Yeah,
- 1:07:26it's worth it. We call it scare your grandmother music.
- 1:07:30Drew loves it. Drew is like, why will you not play that at
- 1:07:35nighttime? We're gonna scare people. We're gonna scare people.
- 1:07:39He's like, dude, I love that song. I got it totally dark for one.
- 1:07:43So good. So we're. We're gonna get
- 1:07:47you guys out of here. If Two. Two more questions.
- 1:07:51If this album had a thesis statement, what would it be?
- 1:07:57It actually does. It's got a whole. Okay, it's got a.
- 1:08:01Well, maybe not a thesis statement, but it's got a. It's got a.
- 1:08:05Let's say a pamphlet in the works, a zine in the works that goes
- 1:08:09to it. So there's all. There's some poetry that's gone to it. We've got some
- 1:08:13writing in, you know, that we've. We've written
- 1:08:17some things in effort to try to describe what we're really trying to say with
- 1:08:20this. And we're going to share that eventually. But ultimately,
- 1:08:23I think it goes back to that thing I was saying a minute ago.
- 1:08:25Sorry, I'm fucking ranting. Talking too much. No, this is great.
- 1:08:29But yeah. Yeah, it's like.
- 1:08:33It goes back to. That thing is like music. It's like, what. The power of
- 1:08:36the human dream. What we put into the music, what we put into the theme,
- 1:08:41into the. You know, the conceptual part of the theme and what we're trying to
- 1:08:43express and all that is only going to be truly felt
- 1:08:47if it's experienced. You know, it's truly. It's not really anything I can tell you.
- 1:08:51I can point you to other people talking about all kind of things that are,
- 1:08:54you know, way more eloquent than I can, you know, but ultimately, it's this kind
- 1:08:57of confluence of all these things that we've put into the music that hopefully,
- 1:09:01through the experience of listening to it and living with it, you'll get the
- 1:09:04same thing out of it, you know, and so that's what we hope people will
- 1:09:08do. We know it's a big ask in this day of, you know, you know,
- 1:09:12just saturation of music and everything, but it's something we put
- 1:09:16a lot of, you know, a lot of time and
- 1:09:19love and energy and thought and just our
- 1:09:23lives. We put our whole lives into this really. And really wanted to say something
- 1:09:27that means something to us. And the Human
- 1:09:31Dream was the perfect kind of title to capture that. And we can't wait to
- 1:09:34talk about that stuff more when the album comes out and what it's, you know,
- 1:09:37kind of what some of that stuff is about and. And share the thesis statement,
- 1:09:41you know, because it's definitely, hey, yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:45door's. Always open, Mike's always on here, so just let us know. But we
- 1:09:50know that this album obviously is being broken up into eps, and then there's a
- 1:09:53bunch of other tracks we're going to hear. And Brad let us know, like,
- 1:09:55front to back. This is going to listen differently than the
- 1:09:59eps and how it's broken up, and that's going to be a whole different experience,
- 1:10:02right? What would you guys hope listeners take away
- 1:10:06from the Human Dream in full after hearing it front to back?
- 1:10:13I mean, I think that's what we've been trying to kind of just talk about
- 1:10:17is just like, we really hope that people find
- 1:10:21their own place in it, you know, find their own spirit within it
- 1:10:25and then share that, you know, and that's
- 1:10:29what makes it symbiotic. That's what makes the whole thing go.
- 1:10:34And so, like Hunter said, it's like, it's a big ask,
- 1:10:38right? Like, you got 19 songs. Like, you know, I.
- 1:10:42I know you guys will listen to it all the way through. We hope all
- 1:10:45people listen to it all the way through, but, you know, I think
- 1:10:50the journey will be revealed when you. When you hear it, you know,
- 1:10:54and that's. That's the beauty of it. So we. We really we hope
- 1:10:58people can. And. Yeah,
- 1:11:02just kind of feel. Feel what. What we've
- 1:11:06put into it. Carry that back out into the world,
- 1:11:09keep that whole synergy going.
- 1:11:14And. And that's really. That's really it, honestly, you know,
- 1:11:18but we. We. I think one of the things is, like, really just grateful
- 1:11:22that people listen. And. And again,
- 1:11:26it's just like, that we don't take that for granted, like, ever,
- 1:11:29ever. And especially, you know,
- 1:11:34today it's, you know, you might not have time to
- 1:11:38sit down and listen to something for, you know, an hour,
- 1:11:41a half an hour, ten minutes, you know. So,
- 1:11:44yeah, like, thank you. Thanks for doing this. Thanks for
- 1:11:48spreading our music around and sharing it, you know, seriously,
- 1:11:52like giving people tickets or just trying to, like, open the door, you know,
- 1:11:57that's really it. Right? We're opening that door too. You know, it's just like
- 1:12:01that portal. Paving the portal. Love it. Yes.
- 1:12:05Last question. When's it drop? November 21st.
- 1:12:09November 21st. We're having a party. LA.
- 1:12:13All right. So, LA. It's nice that time of year. Yeah.
- 1:12:16Bellwether is super dope. You guys, like, it's a new.
- 1:12:20New venue there. We're super stoked. Play there. It's going to
- 1:12:24be the celebration of the Full Human Dream and
- 1:12:29the artifact 20th anniversary as well. And we're going to do it
- 1:12:33even differently than we did in Asheville. So we
- 1:12:37have a whole plan for that as well, that we're super stoked on working out
- 1:12:41all the details for it. But, yeah, definitely don't miss those shows.
- 1:12:45November 21st, that's Human Dream, the full thing.
- 1:12:4919 songs. Oh, yeah. We cannot wait.
- 1:12:54Thank you guys so much. Not just for, first of all, for joining us.
- 1:12:58I know time is of the essence right now and very valuable and
- 1:13:02it's very appreciated and we couldn't have had more fun and been more
- 1:13:06pumped for this. And you guys delivered with some epic background looks under
- 1:13:10the hood, some great stories, and I think you guys
- 1:13:14are better wordsmiths than you give yourself credit for. So thank you
- 1:13:17so much for joining us. Like to give some. Some chest pats
- 1:13:22to you guys. Thank you. In the words of Jeffrey,
- 1:13:26thank you for your listenership.
- 1:13:29Yeah, love that. That's a new one. Yeah. Oh, man.
- 1:13:35Being our being. Being the ambassadors that you guys are, I think
- 1:13:38that's. I would thank all our fans for that in a big way. There are
- 1:13:43big ships, there are small ships, but the best ships are listener ships for sure.
- 1:13:46So, I mean, one.
- 1:13:50You can have that one. Wow. I got a credit.
- 1:13:54I got A credit. I gotta. Gotta credit
- 1:13:58Brandon Pro for that one. He's. That. That's a good one from him. But yeah.
- 1:14:01Thank you guys so much for joining us. Good Lord, thank y' all so much.
- 1:14:04Love y'. All. Love you too. Thank you, guys. See you next.
- 1:14:10All right, Scotty back. Just the
- 1:14:14two of us. So lonely. That was fun.
- 1:14:18Look at us. Who'd have thought? Look at us, brother.
- 1:14:21I'm so proud of us. Oh, man, that was a lot of fun. You just
- 1:14:25heard from Hunter Brown, Zach Velmer, David Fitz, Jeffrey Lerner,
- 1:14:29and Alana Rocklin. Man,
- 1:14:32if that doesn't get you more excited for this release, I don't
- 1:14:36know what does. Just the amount of intentionality that's
- 1:14:41going into it and the themes behind it and. And just the
- 1:14:45overall arc of this project goes deeper than we even thought.
- 1:14:50And that's what seems to happen when you. When you do a deep
- 1:14:54dive on this band is you ask yourself, is it that deep?
- 1:14:58Yeah, I think it is. Yeah, it is. There. There is a
- 1:15:02reason why. Why people care so deeply
- 1:15:06about this band and is. Sometimes it can. It can rear its
- 1:15:10face and not so pretty ways. But I
- 1:15:16think that's what's important to remember no matter what state the
- 1:15:20fans or this fan base is in is that, you know, we give a.
- 1:15:24About some sts9 and man,
- 1:15:29it just is so grateful for what just happened.
- 1:15:33You know, we're about to get into the. The. The two tracks
- 1:15:37that. That we hadn't heard in a. In a studio setting before, but so
- 1:15:42grateful to. To the. To. To those guys, you know, the guys
- 1:15:46and girls for. For stopping by and. And sharing that moment with us because boy,
- 1:15:51oh boy, that was really, really special. Yeah, let's get into
- 1:15:55it. So we started off and the back end of the EP with
- 1:15:59that dusk and yeah, let's get into the.
- 1:16:03The headline of the Human Dream to
- 1:16:08EP with like I do.
- 1:20:29Okay.
- 1:20:47Oh yeah.
- 1:21:09Sam.
- 1:21:49How do you. How do you listen to that now without hearing that?
- 1:21:53Interesting to. Interesting to hear that. That transition that we. That we
- 1:21:57listened to last week was not a stuck landing according to that. I can't.
- 1:22:01I can't wait to hear what a stuck landing sounds like. We. We are not
- 1:22:04safe for when they stick that. Apparently, man,
- 1:22:09we get another new Hunter Brown section before
- 1:22:13that breakdown. And yeah,
- 1:22:18just. Just like we heard from them on that interview of like the. The Evolution.
- 1:22:21I remember the first like 12 times you heard Strange
- 1:22:25Games. It was like, how do they keep adding these sections too? Yeah,
- 1:22:29you start losing track. Yeah.
- 1:22:32Yeah. And that Sounds awesome. Yeah, dude.
- 1:22:35So good. The other thing that's really prevalent is, is it has a much more
- 1:22:39west coast feel on the synth side of things, on the David Phipps side of
- 1:22:43things, than the, than the live version.
- 1:22:47Man, I hope the live version starts sounding like this one.
- 1:22:51You know, sometimes these studio versions, they kind of just stay the
- 1:22:54way they are and, you know, they don't necessarily always translate back
- 1:22:58to, to the live version and, and the studio example
- 1:23:03of it. I, I would like to hear some of these rifts and some of
- 1:23:06that west coast style stuff make its way into the live setting a little
- 1:23:10bit more. Yeah, and that like, just like curdling,
- 1:23:13like kick drum, dude. Like, oof. Man, that breakdown now is,
- 1:23:18is.
- 1:23:23Oh, it's a toe tapper for sure. Awesome to see the,
- 1:23:27the progression, the evolution of it since we hear time at the ravine
- 1:23:31and rave spell and, and look at us now. Wow.
- 1:23:34It is. Look at us, buddy. Look at us. Look at
- 1:23:38us. Yeah. Next one, let's get some
- 1:23:42dance. Lord Napalm here with. It's all right.
- 1:24:11Crispy snare.
- 1:24:22Hopefully we got some good headphones on right now.
- 1:25:38Take.
- 1:26:03From here.
- 1:26:29Sam.
- 1:27:15Whoa.
- 1:27:19That, that's my first. I've been listening to this in the car,
- 1:27:22Scotty, which I thought was a good place to listen to the new ep.
- 1:27:26I love to listen to soundboards in the car because. Yeah,
- 1:27:29in the show. You're at the show.
- 1:27:33Yeah. First listen on some headphones. Dear God.
- 1:27:37The student. The mix on this and like all
- 1:27:41of the clicks and pops and the,
- 1:27:44the finishing touches and the mastering of the drums.
- 1:27:48This is very quickly becoming a top 10 song for me.
- 1:27:54Alarmingly quickly. I mean, it should be,
- 1:27:58it's got, it's got all those elements of a, of a song that kind of
- 1:28:02brightens the set no matter where it is. First set,
- 1:28:06second set, opener, closer, encore. Bro, like there's.
- 1:28:09I talked about it last week, the, the spec.
- 1:28:13I talked about the way they pimp it at a show and you know,
- 1:28:17I, I, I. My only, my only note is that they should do it more.
- 1:28:20I mean, they should walk off stage and come back and.
- 1:28:24Dude. Those false endings.
- 1:28:28Yeah, yeah, dude, that, that in the live setting is like. It's like
- 1:28:32Hunter said, you gotta feel it. Like that's a three minute song on
- 1:28:35this album. And it's, it's one of the, you know, it captures
- 1:28:39all the, all the, the basics of it,
- 1:28:43but it's, you know, one of those, like, growers that at a show
- 1:28:47you're like, whoa, whoa. That was that was way,
- 1:28:50way more intense and way fun
- 1:28:54and bubbly and yeah, it's great. It's a grower and a
- 1:28:58shower, you know. Grower and a shower. Exactly. The, the, the snare
- 1:29:02at the beginning of this. You want to talk about like some,
- 1:29:06something that the studio and that, that Brad has just really dialed
- 1:29:10in sound wise. Just so good, man. This is,
- 1:29:14this is great. Some people were surprised that,
- 1:29:18that these were the songs.
- 1:29:22This is, this is what bands do. They play them live and, and then they,
- 1:29:26they put them on albums. It's been a while since we've had a proper STS9
- 1:29:31album. So I guess from that perspective. These aren't new if you go to
- 1:29:34a lot of shows, but you know, these songs made perfect sense
- 1:29:38to me as far as album direction and just, you know, this is what I
- 1:29:42would expect them to be putting on the album at this point. This is what
- 1:29:45they're comfortable with. Yeah, absolutely. And, and I think
- 1:29:49these six tracks work together extremely well.
- 1:29:53So I mean you take a look at the songs that are
- 1:29:56on Human Dream 1 and Human Dream 2. We got six songs a piece.
- 1:30:00And that leaves us with doing the math correctly here.
- 1:30:03Scotty. Seven to go. And I think it's
- 1:30:07going to be a fun guessing game as to what those songs are going to
- 1:30:10be to fill out the rest of this project. Like Brad said, we might be
- 1:30:13hearing some stuff or definitely going to be hearing a few that we've never heard
- 1:30:18that are yet to make their live debut. Like the band just mentioned,
- 1:30:21they're in the studio working on some old tracks that have never gotten the studio
- 1:30:26treatment. So I mean the, the possib possibilities are endless
- 1:30:29leading up to the full release coming at the end of November here.
- 1:30:33Yeah, I mean exciting times to
- 1:30:37be, to be a soundtrack fan is, is an understatement right now.
- 1:30:42This, you know, the, the, this, this feels
- 1:30:46like the band on a mission. You know, I, I, I, I think we,
- 1:30:50I, I think we can be hopeful that, you know,
- 1:30:54the, the, the, the next few months are going to be really, really cool.
- 1:30:59Yeah. What an episode, guys. Shout out
- 1:31:03to Sound Tribe, Sector nine. Um, yes,
- 1:31:06it's always shout out to Sound Tribe, Sector nine. This, this whole
- 1:31:10establishment doesn't really work without that band, but good God, we are.
- 1:31:14What would we talk about? Dude, I don't know.
- 1:31:17Sports and hip hop probably. But yeah,
- 1:31:20wouldn't be, we wouldn't be nearly as educated or,
- 1:31:24or you know, articulate on the topic. But thank
- 1:31:29you to, to the band for joining us today. It will not be
- 1:31:33the last time you guys hear from them collectively or individually.
- 1:31:37But you know there's always something special about your first time time,
- 1:31:40right? Yeah, I will. I will remember. I will remember this one for
- 1:31:44a long time, partner. I'm really glad we got to do it together for sure.
- 1:31:47Thank you guys all for watching and listening. Whether you're watching on YouTube or
- 1:31:52listening on Apple Music, Apple podcasts, or Spotify.
- 1:31:55Throw us a like, throw us a review. Throw us a comment if you're feeling
- 1:31:58nice. Throw us a Share Share this 1. Share it if it's if
- 1:32:02it's your first episode, welcome. We do this every week.
- 1:32:05We will be back next week week with our
- 1:32:10first Wave spell episode in a long time, Scotty.
- 1:32:14Might be months. Yeah, time to put the Dukes up and square off
- 1:32:18again. We'll we'll have to actually put up we never got a vote on who
- 1:32:21won the last episode, so we'll put that up on our story this weekend as
- 1:32:25well. But yeah, until then,
- 1:32:28y', all, next week. Much love.
