- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to the Mums Group you actually want
- 0:06Speaker 1: to be a part of. I'm Sophie Torber and I'm
- 0:08Speaker 1: joined by my triplet sisters and journalists, Kate and Amy.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Amy, I can't believe it.
- 0:13Speaker 1: You're entering the podcast now as a toddler mum. I know,
- 0:16Speaker 1: it feels so weird and I wondered how I was
- 0:19Speaker 1: going to feel when I put Harry down for his
- 0:21Speaker 1: last sleep of being a baby because I'd seen all
- 0:23Speaker 1: these videos of parents crying as they rocked their baby
- 0:26Speaker 1: to sleep.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I must admit, I was bawling my eyes out.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it was, I don't know, Dale and I were
- 0:33Speaker 1: taking all these photos of him and it was just
- 0:35Speaker 1: something so weird about Harry going down at night as
- 0:39Speaker 1: a baby and waking up as a toddler. See, I
- 0:41Speaker 1: didn't even get the opportunity to be sentimental about it
- 0:44Speaker 1: because the day before Jack turned one was the day
- 0:46Speaker 1: Sophie's son Luca was born. So we were there late
- 0:49Speaker 1: at the hospital. I think Rhys actually took him home
- 0:51Speaker 1: and put him down.
- 0:51Speaker 2: For his sleep.
- 0:52Speaker 1: That's kind of symbolic though, because it's like, hey, there's
- 0:54Speaker 1: a new baby.
- 0:55Speaker 3: There's a new baby in town.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Well, what was weird was I was surprised I even
- 1:00Speaker 1: had time, as you said, to be so sentimental because
- 1:03Speaker 1: I was doing the whole.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I did balloons that said happy birthday.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I was making the party hats for all of Harry's
- 1:09Speaker 1: soft toys to greet him in the morning. Isn't there
- 1:11Speaker 1: so much pressure now because of TikTok? Because now it's
- 1:14Speaker 1: like TikTok knows that I'm about to have a one-year-old
- 1:17Speaker 1: as well because I keep getting fed all of those videos,
- 1:19Speaker 1: as you say, of the little toys with their perfect
- 1:21Speaker 1: party hats and the helium balloons.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And you're like, oh my God, when am I going
- 1:24Speaker 2: to organize that?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Well, the mum guilt struck me the day before Harry's party.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And I looked at all his presents and I was like,
- 1:29Speaker 1: this is not enough. So I panic bought a ride
- 1:33Speaker 1: on motorbike and it said it was for three to
- 1:35Speaker 1: six year olds. And I'd previously bought him a ride
- 1:37Speaker 1: on car and I was like, it'll be fine.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It will have a remote control. This thing arrived.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I say it arrived.
- 1:42Speaker 2: My mum picked it up for me. It did not
- 1:45Speaker 2: have a remote control.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And I realised quickly when Harry opened it, that his
- 1:49Speaker 1: legs didn't even reach the pedal.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's even too big for Jack. Like he was, he's
- 1:54Speaker 3: scared of it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: But I also said I would never be a mom
- 1:57Speaker 1: that encouraged motorbikes because my husband Dale loves motorbikes.
- 2:00Speaker 2: The thought of Harry riding a motorbike.
- 2:02Speaker 1: As 20 something, yeah, real one terrifies me, but I've
- 2:06Speaker 1: been out there. I've actually taught Harry to press down
- 2:09Speaker 1: on the pedal. Somehow he managed, he's managed to do
- 2:11Speaker 1: it with his toe. I mean, house has literally become
- 2:14Speaker 1: Disneyland for our kids because they come over. There's like,
- 2:17Speaker 1: all these cars in the backyard, motorbikes. Harry got a
- 2:20Speaker 1: DJ set. You went absolutely nuts because a lot of
- 2:23Speaker 1: people say, oh, don't even bother about giving them presents
- 2:25Speaker 1: for their first birthday. They're just like whisks and just household.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Items, but you went absolutely nuts.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Well, Dale got him the DJ set and I've got
- 2:32Speaker 1: to say to any other mums looking for first birthday presents,
- 2:35Speaker 1: that was a real winner because if you have a
- 2:38Speaker 1: baby and they get distracted easily when you're feeding them,
- 2:41Speaker 1: The DJ set is the best.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Get them on the decks? Yeah, get them on the decks.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Wouldn't that distract them more though? No, they get distracted
- 2:48Speaker 2: and will just take it, like eat anything.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I see. I wasn't present in the last two Mums
- 2:53Speaker 1: Group meetings and I listened to last week's episode and
- 2:56Speaker 1: I was like, wow, Kate, you gave Amy an absolutely
- 2:59Speaker 1: grilling over the birthday preparation. I felt kind of sorry
- 3:02Speaker 1: for you, Amy, because, you know, in Kate's giving it
- 3:05Speaker 1: to Kate, your party.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Was a big success. Well, probably because of my advice. Wait,
- 3:10Speaker 3: I didn't see your cupcakes.
- 3:11Speaker 2: All I felt was being slammed.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I didn't hear anything.
- 3:14Speaker 1: No, I was just saying make sure you don't bite
- 3:16Speaker 1: off more than you can chew. And on the cupcake thing,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I offered and she said she didn't want me to.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I feel like the party was a success, so thank you, Sophie,
- 3:24Speaker 1: for saying that. But I've got to admit, I had
- 3:26Speaker 1: some pretty late nights on Saturday and Sunday night. Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: to be fair to me, what time did you stay
- 3:31Speaker 1: up to the day before the party?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but I knew I would do this.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So on Friday night, I stayed up till 2am and
- 3:36Speaker 1: then on the Saturday night before the party, I stayed
- 3:38Speaker 1: up till 3am and most of that time was spent
- 3:41Speaker 1: making these balloon garlands.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Which I didn't even remember to take a photo of
- 3:46Speaker 2: or film.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Hats off to you because the garland looked really good.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But that's what I was just trying to save you from,
- 3:51Speaker 1: like having a really late night because then it ruins
- 3:53Speaker 1: the party. But were you feeling okay the day of
- 3:56Speaker 1: the party?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I was absolutely fine. I must have had like complete
- 3:59Speaker 2: adrenaline going through my body.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It was hilarious because- I have previously said how.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Dale, he means so well. He and I are so similar.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So we both bite off more than we could chew.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I think you secretly love it. You love the rush
- 4:12Speaker 1: before the party, the last minute planning.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But we've been having all these renovations going on.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And I said to him, look, remember this party, like
- 4:20Speaker 1: we need to focus on the food, the balloons, setting
- 4:23Speaker 1: up the backyard.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And where did I find Dale? So the morning of
- 4:26Speaker 2: the party, he decided to remove one of the doors
- 4:28Speaker 2: to the shed. And he painted the doorframe. That was
- 4:32Speaker 2: really important.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And his sister came over an hour before the party started.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And they both went really quiet because previously they'd been
- 4:39Speaker 1: asking me if there was anything they could do to help.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And I realised they were cleaning out our shed, which
- 4:43Speaker 1: has been turned into.
- 4:44Speaker 2: A rumpus room.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And I was like, this is the last- It was
- 4:46Speaker 3: like a granny flat, really, your shed.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 2: This is the last thing we needed.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So I'm inside making two of the Women's Weekly cakes
- 4:53Speaker 1: because my first attempt completely failed. Anyone that follows me
- 4:57Speaker 1: on Instagram would have seen this disgusting chocolate cake. I
- 5:01Speaker 1: was getting a bit worried when I saw your Instagram
- 5:03Speaker 1: stories popping up, particularly late on the Saturday night. I
- 5:06Speaker 1: heard that you had to do some panicked online shop.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Did you get the Woolies mud cakes or something? No,
- 5:10Speaker 1: I ordered some vanilla cake mix because I had tried
- 5:13Speaker 1: to use the Betty Crocker Devil's.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Chocolate cake, which I used up so much.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Works for the one. It doesn't work if you're trying
- 5:19Speaker 2: to carve out the shape of a car. And I've
- 5:21Speaker 2: got a.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Bone to pick with the Women's Weekly editor. Those instructions
- 5:26Speaker 1: are absolutely deplorable. Well, that's why they used to actually
- 5:29Speaker 1: have a hotline set up back in the 90s and
- 5:31Speaker 1: you could actually ring up and be like, hey, I'm
- 5:33Speaker 1: having trouble with the racing car. Do you reckon anyone
- 5:35Speaker 1: actually rung up though? Because Back in the day, no
- 5:38Speaker 1: one ever wanted to spend money on their phone bill. Also,
- 5:41Speaker 1: let's be honest, people probably weren't making the cakes during
- 5:43Speaker 1: your regular business hours and there wouldn't have been someone
- 5:45Speaker 1: manning the phones at 3am for Amy. Well, I saw
- 5:48Speaker 1: this ABC show and it was all on the Women's
- 5:50Speaker 1: Weekly Cookbook and they interviewed the editor of it, Pamela Clark,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and she said they had six lines, like phone lines,
- 5:56Speaker 1: that went to the testing kitchen.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So this kitchen was for all of.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The Women's Weekly recipes, not just for the cake. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: she said about like 50% were panicked parents. And They
- 6:07Speaker 1: did ring in business hours because they'd say, oh, my God,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I stayed up all night trying to make this cake.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And there was this really funny clip where this editor, Pamela,
- 6:16Speaker 1: she was tasked with making the truck, so it's like
- 6:19Speaker 1: the tip truck, and she said, you know, the boss
- 6:21Speaker 1: had said, look, we really want a tip truck. So
- 6:24Speaker 1: she designed this thing and she.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Told everyone, do not even attempt it. Let's throw to
- 6:29Speaker 2: a grab of what she said because it was just
- 6:30Speaker 2: so funny.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Oh, tip truck cake, bitch of a cake, don't make it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Unless you're really desperate.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's funny because I know that book back to front,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but I actually can't even think of that cake because
- 6:44Speaker 1: it was never on my radar as a little girl.
- 6:47Speaker 3: It was in the boys section.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So that might have been why. Is this my.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Sign not to even bother with a woman's weekly cake?
- 6:53Speaker 1: I mean, this is just giving me a bit of anxiety.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Do the one. The one is so simple.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, the one is easy.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I came across a Facebook page that was dedicated to
- 7:00Speaker 1: the women's weekly birthday cakes. And I was hoping this
- 7:03Speaker 1: page would make me feel better about my own sort
- 7:05Speaker 1: of failed attempt. But all of the people sharing photos,
- 7:09Speaker 1: their cakes looked incredible and they gave.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Some really good tips. So this might help you.
- 7:14Speaker 1: They said, don't even attempt to make the packet cake.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Just buy the pre-made vanilla slab cake. And also don't
- 7:21Speaker 1: bother to make your icing. just buy pre-made icing because
- 7:24Speaker 1: it's all.
- 7:24Speaker 2: About decorating the cake.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But then again, are you even making, like what's the
- 7:27Speaker 1: point of making the cake then? It's still decorating the
- 7:30Speaker 1: cake and it's iconic. I mean, think about how many
- 7:32Speaker 1: memories we have attached to this cookbook. I actually don't
- 7:35Speaker 1: agree with the pre-made icing. I'm a bit against it
- 7:38Speaker 1: like I am against box cakes. I also don't think
- 7:41Speaker 1: you should follow the recipe in the Women's Weekly Cookbook
- 7:43Speaker 1: for the icing. I think you should go and find
- 7:45Speaker 1: a top rated buttercream icing recipe.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I have a.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Fantastic cake lady.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I used her for my engagement party, my wedding, my
- 7:53Speaker 1: baby shower, and everyone's always loved the cakes and actually
- 7:56Speaker 1: eats them.
- 7:57Speaker 2: No one eats any of.
- 7:57Speaker 3: These women's weekly cakes. People ate my cake.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But do you know what?
- 8:01Speaker 1: When I brought those cakes out, the kids who were
- 8:04Speaker 1: at the party, they swarmed me.
- 8:05Speaker 2: They were like, oh, my God.
- 8:07Speaker 3: The cake.
- 8:08Speaker 1: One of the kids was like, smarty cake, smarty cake,
- 8:10Speaker 1: smarty cake. Well, I think you should think more about
- 8:14Speaker 1: making one of the women's weekly cakes, Soph, because I
- 8:16Speaker 1: think it's a rite of passage for.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Every mum to attempt it.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And I don't know whether I was just exhausted from
- 8:21Speaker 1: the birthday party, but in that Women's Weekly ABC special,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I saw this clip and I nearly burst into tears.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Let's have a listen to what the editor, Pamela, said.
- 8:30Speaker 5: The kids don't care about the details, how messy it
- 8:35Speaker 5: might look, the fact that the icing doesn't go right
- 8:38Speaker 5: down to the board. The child realises that it is
- 8:43Speaker 5: probably the greatest expression of love.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 8:50Speaker 2: That has won me over.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Maybe I'll do the Molly May and I'll make the
- 8:54Speaker 1: sort of crappy homemade cake and then have a purchase
- 8:58Speaker 1: cake on standby for all the adults to eat. So
- 9:00Speaker 1: you've still got the magic, but you're still also got
- 9:02Speaker 1: something that's edible.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And just pick a design that's easy.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Like you can tell.
- 9:07Speaker 1: The pool I reckon is the easiest one. But you're
- 9:08Speaker 1: doing the farmyard theme, aren't you? You could just do
- 9:11Speaker 1: the flat cake and what is it?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Like the coconut. Literally coconut.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And then buy the plastic farmyard animals.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Okay, perfect.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I'll give that one a go.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Baby dove, hallelujah. Sleep deprivation, hallelujah. Three hours sleep last.
- 9:26Speaker 7: Night, hallelujah. I'm breastfeeding so no Botox, hallelujah. Ah, biting
- 9:33Speaker 7: my shoulder, hallelujah. Blowing my hair, hallelujah. It's falling out
- 9:38Speaker 7: in clumps in the shower, hallelujah.
- 9:41Speaker 1: A debate is raging across social media sparked by influencer
- 9:45Speaker 1: G Bungalow on whether or not you need to visit
- 9:48Speaker 1: your own mother and your mother-in-law on Mother's Day or
- 9:51Speaker 1: whether those of us mums who are currently in the
- 9:54Speaker 1: trenches should be the ones being celebrated. Now, G Bungalow
- 9:58Speaker 1: shared a real giving thanks husbands and partners a heads
- 10:01Speaker 1: up of what mums actually want for Mother's Day and
- 10:04Speaker 1: the perfect way they should be celebrated.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Let's take a listen.
- 10:08Speaker 8: This is a guide to husbands everywhere on how to
- 10:10Speaker 8: give your partner, the mother of your children, the perfect
- 10:13Speaker 8: Mother's Day.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Okay, number one, don't ask her what she wants. You
- 10:17Speaker 4: know her. Plan it. Okay? Think. You know this woman.
- 10:21Speaker 8: He is the right balance of alone time and quality
- 10:24Speaker 8: family time. It's not that mums don't want.
- 10:26Speaker 4: To see their kids on Mother's Day.
- 10:28Speaker 8: It's that we want to be relieved from the monotonous
- 10:32Speaker 8: work of mothering. No chores, groceries, meal prep, laundry, et cetera. No,
- 10:37Speaker 8: get it done the day before. You can do it
- 10:39Speaker 8: on Saturday. You can do it on Monday. It's a
- 10:40Speaker 8: no-chores Sunday. You get up to the kids and do breakfast, nappies,
- 10:44Speaker 8: all of the things, and let her sleep in. So
- 10:46Speaker 8: if the kids wake up and they're calling out and
- 10:49Speaker 8: they want this and they want that, that's you.
- 10:50Speaker 4: You are doing that on that day. And close the door.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Close the door so she can kind of get a
- 10:54Speaker 4: bit of a sleep in.
- 10:55Speaker 8: Okay, a small thoughtful gift wrapped with a handmade card
- 10:58Speaker 8: from the kids.
- 10:59Speaker 4: And here's the kicker, a card from you, the adult
- 11:01Speaker 4: as well.
- 11:02Speaker 8: Thanking her for everything she does for the family. I personally,
- 11:05Speaker 8: not too fussed on whatever the gift is. It doesn't
- 11:07Speaker 8: need to be large. It doesn't need to be expensive.
- 11:09Speaker 8: What I care about is that I get a little
- 11:11Speaker 8: card from my kids that they've made with their dad
- 11:13Speaker 8: and that he writes me a card thanking me for
- 11:17Speaker 8: being the mum to our children.
- 11:18Speaker 4: So that's a tip. Family breakfast. Either cook it at
- 11:21Speaker 4: home or go out, pending her preference. Again, you know her.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Does she want to have breakfast at home or would
- 11:26Speaker 4: she prefer to go out? If the answer is go out,
- 11:29Speaker 4: book it right now. Get off your phone and book
- 11:31Speaker 4: it right now.
- 11:33Speaker 8: Then we're going to do a short family activity, like
- 11:35Speaker 8: a play at the park, a walk.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Around the markets, that kind of thing. You know, I'm
- 11:40Speaker 4: thinking an hour.
- 11:41Speaker 8: We're out in the sunshine, hopefully it's sunshiny, and we're
- 11:44Speaker 8: having quality family time. You're going to take photos of
- 11:48Speaker 8: her with her kids in candid moments, OK? You're going
- 11:52Speaker 8: to take them at the right angle, you're going to
- 11:54Speaker 8: put them on live mode so that she can adjust
- 11:57Speaker 8: to make the candidness great.
- 11:58Speaker 4: You're going to take photos of her. Pending your kids'
- 12:00Speaker 4: nap schedules.
- 12:01Speaker 8: You are going to go out with the children and
- 12:04Speaker 8: leave her at home.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Leave her at home by herself for at least 90 minutes.
- 12:08Speaker 4: That's the rule. And again, no chores.
- 12:10Speaker 8: Day is going to end by you sending her off
- 12:12Speaker 8: for an early dinner and drinks with her girlfriends at 4.30.
- 12:14Speaker 4: 4.30, they can have a few cocktails, they can have
- 12:18Speaker 4: a few mocktails.
- 12:19Speaker 8: Then they're going to have an early dinner. Ideally, chat
- 12:21Speaker 8: to the dads and the mums can all get together
- 12:23Speaker 8: and go out together. She's going to miss dinner bath bed. Again,
- 12:27Speaker 8: I'm saying, we want to see our kids. We don't
- 12:29Speaker 8: want to do... all of the demands of the everyday
- 12:33Speaker 8: you know then you're going to win partner of the
- 12:34Speaker 8: year she feels well looked after she feels loved and
- 12:37Speaker 8: she deserves it so here you go women send this
- 12:40Speaker 8: to your partner.
- 12:42Speaker 1: G Bungalow's take on Mother's Day really blew my mind
- 12:45Speaker 1: because as a kid our Mother's Day always consisted of
- 12:49Speaker 1: so in the morning we made mum breakfast in bed
- 12:51Speaker 1: it was often not very nice And then we would
- 12:54Speaker 1: go and visit our nana and our grandma for Mother's Day.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So it was a busy day.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You were in the car a lot. You were visiting
- 13:01Speaker 3: all your rallies.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I never really sat back to think that, hey, maybe
- 13:05Speaker 1: mum wanted a bit of a break on Mother's Day.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Like I've always thought it's just a day that you
- 13:10Speaker 1: see a lot of family.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It's not really a day where mums actually get to relax.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You also assume that mums want to spend Mother's Day
- 13:16Speaker 1: with their kids, but it sounds like some of them
- 13:19Speaker 1: want a bit of a break and a day off.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I mean, absolutely no judgment there. I think it just
- 13:24Speaker 1: depends how you're used to celebrating the day because I
- 13:27Speaker 1: would feel so incredibly guilty if I didn't see my
- 13:30Speaker 1: mum or my mother-in-law.
- 13:31Speaker 3: That is just non-negotiable for me or my kids.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I agree because I'd never seen Mother's Day framed that
- 13:37Speaker 1: way and I thought she's 100% right. Being a first-time mum,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I remember last Mother's Day feeling absolutely exhausted and To
- 13:47Speaker 1: be honest, I didn't really feel like the day was
- 13:49Speaker 1: about me. I felt like it was about all of
- 13:51Speaker 1: the mothers in my life. And G Bungalow mentioned that
- 13:55Speaker 1: a good idea for husbands is to let your wives
- 13:57Speaker 1: go out at 4.30pm with their mum friends, have the
- 14:01Speaker 1: night off, go to dinner. And I thought that is
- 14:03Speaker 1: such a great idea because this is the only day
- 14:06Speaker 1: really mums are celebrating.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Or you give them a present that symbolises some me time,
- 14:12Speaker 1: whether it's a massage, whether it's a hotel voucher, I
- 14:17Speaker 1: would voucher to a nice dinner out. What I don't
- 14:20Speaker 1: get about the whole concept of Mother's Day is that
- 14:22Speaker 1: why do we feel so much pressure for it to
- 14:24Speaker 1: all be packed into one day? Like my thought is, okay, well,
- 14:28Speaker 1: can't the active mums have the Saturday to go and
- 14:31Speaker 1: hang out with their friends and relax and kind of
- 14:33Speaker 1: recuperate before you have the traditional Mother's Day where you
- 14:37Speaker 1: go out and see everyone.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Like why can't it be a Mother's Day weekend?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, why is it just confined to one day?
- 14:42Speaker 1: I saw a lot of creators saying that they will
- 14:44Speaker 1: see their mum on the Saturday and maybe they'll see
- 14:47Speaker 1: the mother-in-law another day that week. But one person wrote
- 14:50Speaker 1: under G Bungalow's video, can we add not visiting our
- 14:54Speaker 1: mother-in-law too? While another person said, So it sounds like
- 14:57Speaker 1: we all pretty much just want a chance to be dad.
- 14:59Speaker 2: For the day. And I laughed so much at this.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Someone said, take a flattering photo. We are begging. Oh, yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So a gift is some nonchalant photos. I actually, my
- 15:09Speaker 1: husband the other day, we were doing bedtime routine together.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And every night I will read Luca a couple of
- 15:15Speaker 1: books before bed. And our dog Archie was sitting right
- 15:18Speaker 1: next to us and looked very wholesome. And I just said, look, can.
- 15:20Speaker 3: You take a photo? And he's like, oh, okay. Like
- 15:22Speaker 3: sometimes you just need to ask.
- 15:24Speaker 1: See, I'm actually so proud of my husband because there's
- 15:26Speaker 1: been two occasions now where I haven't actually had to ask.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I've actually turned around and he was capturing rather a
- 15:32Speaker 1: cute moment like yesterday.
- 15:33Speaker 3: That's because he listens to this.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yesterday we were walking to a cafe and I
- 15:37Speaker 1: was holding Jack's hand and I turned around and I
- 15:39Speaker 1: was just shocked.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, thank you.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Actually, I came and hung out with you guys at
- 15:43Speaker 1: a park a couple of weeks ago and we were
- 15:46Speaker 1: both on the swings with Jack and Luca and I
- 15:48Speaker 1: see him.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Taking this video.
- 15:51Speaker 1: The only thing is he remained seated on the park bench,
- 15:54Speaker 1: like he didn't get up to change up the angle,
- 15:56Speaker 1: did he?
- 15:56Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like they're trying but they're
- 15:58Speaker 2: not quite, you know, there.
- 15:59Speaker 3: The thought and effort was there, which gold star to Rhys.
- 16:02Speaker 1: As a boy mum, I... Want to spare a thought
- 16:05Speaker 1: though for the mother-in-laws. I don't think that they should
- 16:07Speaker 1: be removed from the Mother's Day celebrations.
- 16:09Speaker 3: No way.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I think the day is obviously to celebrate all mums.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what stage you're in. You have given
- 16:17Speaker 1: sacrifice so much to have that child and you continue
- 16:20Speaker 1: to even in their adulthood. Yeah, because people talk about
- 16:23Speaker 1: active parents, but I'm like, well, my mum and mother-in-law
- 16:25Speaker 1: are both active. Like they babysit and they look after
- 16:28Speaker 1: my child. Like I wouldn't want to do something to
- 16:31Speaker 1: thank them as well. Well, one US content creator, she
- 16:33Speaker 1: does not agree with you. She said that Mother's Day
- 16:37Speaker 1: is not about the grandparents. Actually, apparently there is a Grandparents' Day.
- 16:41Speaker 1: She said that's where the grandparents should be celebrated. Let's
- 16:44Speaker 1: have a listen to what she said.
- 16:47Speaker 9: Top tier of Mother's Day celebrations should be reserved for
- 16:50Speaker 9: active duty moms. When I say duty, I'm talking duty
- 16:53Speaker 9: from a butt. If you wipe butts, Mother's Day is
- 16:56Speaker 9: a day for you to.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Do what you want.
- 17:00Speaker 9: If you don't want to pack the kids up and
- 17:01Speaker 9: go to your mom's house, if you don't want to
- 17:03Speaker 9: go to your in-laws house, you don't have to. From there,
- 17:06Speaker 9: I see a tiered system and the amount that your
- 17:10Speaker 9: children affect your sleep determines where you fall in the tiers.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I've always found it interesting the people that do the
- 17:17Speaker 1: separate Mother's Day, like if they're married or have a partner,
- 17:20Speaker 1: you know, they individually go off and see their parents.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It makes sense, but I suppose you just do what
- 17:25Speaker 1: you've grown up with.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Like for us, it was always, you had to see both.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I think it also ultimately depends on whether you enjoy
- 17:31Speaker 1: spending time with your in-laws or not. And we all
- 17:33Speaker 1: have the most beautiful in-laws. So we are very lucky
- 17:36Speaker 1: in that respect. I mean, last year I was pregnant
- 17:38Speaker 1: on Mother's Day. So this year will actually be my
- 17:40Speaker 1: first official Mother's Day. And it was so sweet. My
- 17:43Speaker 1: mother-in-law got me a bunch of flowers to congratulate me
- 17:46Speaker 1: and say, you know, this is really your first Mother's Day.
- 17:48Speaker 2: You've done a lot carrying your baby. That's so sweet.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We actually polled the mums group and we asked who
- 17:54Speaker 1: should be celebrated on Mother's Day and 47% of you
- 17:58Speaker 1: said it should be active mums, while 53% said both.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I just think that summarises mums in general. They're always
- 18:05Speaker 1: thinking of others, aren't they? Like it's like, oh, I
- 18:07Speaker 1: couldn't possibly have the whole day about me.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Well, what surprised me was one of the questions we.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Put up was do you see your mother-in-law on Mother's Day?
- 18:15Speaker 2: And 55% of you guys said no.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Oh.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Okay, so we're in the minority.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I didn't know this was an option.
- 18:20Speaker 4: You know what, though?
- 18:21Speaker 1: If you think about it, though, like our mum, for instance,
- 18:24Speaker 1: the day clearly wasn't about her when she was active parenting.
- 18:28Speaker 3: So now it should be about her.
- 18:30Speaker 2: You kind of give your dues. You're in the trenches
- 18:32Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 18:33Speaker 1: And then once we're grandparents, we'll be the ones who
- 18:36Speaker 1: everyone's coming to visit. Well, our kids aren't at a
- 18:38Speaker 1: stage yet where they can actually make cards. Maybe Jack is,
- 18:41Speaker 1: but Soph and I, we're not at a stage where
- 18:43Speaker 1: our kids might make presents at school or whatever to
- 18:46Speaker 1: give to you for Mother's Day. And that means that
- 18:49Speaker 1: the husbands are having to get Mother's Day presents. And
- 18:51Speaker 1: there has been so much advice on TikTok by female
- 18:55Speaker 1: creators saying, listen, this is what women want.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I want to throw to one of the creators. She
- 19:00Speaker 2: has laid it all out there for them.
- 19:03Speaker 10: Number one, it's not about the gift. She wants to
- 19:06Speaker 10: feel seen. And don't check out. I'm not going to
- 19:07Speaker 10: make this condescending.
- 19:08Speaker 6: I don't roll that way.
- 19:09Speaker 10: I am genuinely here to help. She wants you to
- 19:11Speaker 10: notice mention and show appreciation for the things that she
- 19:14Speaker 10: does day in and day out. So the first thing
- 19:16Speaker 10: you're going to do is you're going to get a
- 19:17Speaker 10: card and you're not going to write thank you for
- 19:19Speaker 10: everything you do because generic appreciation, it doesn't hit us
- 19:22Speaker 10: in the heart. It doesn't make us feel seen. Instead,
- 19:24Speaker 10: write down a few specific things that she does that
- 19:28Speaker 10: you appreciate about her. Number two, she just wants time
- 19:31Speaker 10: off from being the default parent. So on Mother's Day,
- 19:33Speaker 10: anticipate the kid's needs, anticipate her needs without being directed.
- 19:37Speaker 10: Take care of the diapers, the tantrums, the meals, all
- 19:40Speaker 10: of the messes. so that her brain can take a
- 19:43Speaker 10: break and just turn off. You either take the kids
- 19:45Speaker 10: out of the house for the first half of the
- 19:46Speaker 10: day so she can sleep in and have a slow morning,
- 19:48Speaker 10: come back with coffee.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I think she's hit the nail on the head. All
- 19:53Speaker 1: moms want a card, as she said, outlining the fantastic
- 19:57Speaker 1: job that you've done throughout that year. I think if
- 19:59Speaker 1: it is your first Mother's Day, you do actually want.
- 20:01Speaker 3: A sentimental gift.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I mean, for me, I would love, I mean, I'm
- 20:05Speaker 1: hoping my husband listens. Like a piece of jewelry with like.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Luca written on it.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Well, that's a personalized gift and this is coming out
- 20:10Speaker 1: a couple of days before Mother's Day. So this might
- 20:12Speaker 1: send him into a panic.
- 20:13Speaker 2: No, it's a week. He's got a week or so.
- 20:15Speaker 2: This is coming out on Wednesday.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Well, perfect timing.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 3: I hope all the husbands are listening.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I've got to say, my husband did a really good
- 20:22Speaker 1: job last year. He ticked the personalized present. He got
- 20:25Speaker 1: one of those like Wonderbly books. It was like Jack's mom.
- 20:28Speaker 1: And then he got me a hundred dollar gift voucher
- 20:29Speaker 1: for Marion, which OG listeners of Outspoken will know.
- 20:32Speaker 3: It's our favorite place to go.
- 20:33Speaker 1: So no shade to reach, but I kept seeing that
- 20:36Speaker 1: popping up as a suggestion on Instagram, you know, and it's.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Like, oh yeah, get the generic.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Book of the customized it's.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Very sweet harsh when you know you google like i
- 20:45Speaker 1: do it sometimes for father's day i'm like good gifts
- 20:47Speaker 1: for father's day sentimental but.
- 20:49Speaker 2: At least he typed that in yeah do you.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Know what's hilarious seeing all of the mother's day advertising
- 20:55Speaker 1: like i was walking into big w today and it
- 20:56Speaker 1: was like gifts mom might like and it was like
- 20:59Speaker 1: l'oreal foundation a revlon lipstick and then it was like
- 21:02Speaker 1: a drink bottle I actually saw.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Oh, what's wrong with that?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Was it a Stanley or a Frank Green?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No, it was from Big W. It was one of
- 21:08Speaker 1: those cheapo drink bottles that no mother would actually like. Like, yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 1: if it was a Stanley Cup or a Frank Green
- 21:12Speaker 1: or a Yeti. Imagine these poor men, they're like, you know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: the day before Mother's Day seeking something out and they
- 21:17Speaker 1: get falsely sold a drink bottle. It was so funny.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Kate Forster, who's a TikToker and author, she did a
- 21:23Speaker 1: bit of a review on what Audi was promoting people
- 21:26Speaker 1: should get for Mother's Day.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Let's take a listen.
- 21:29Speaker 11: G'day and welcome to Audi. And as we come careering
- 21:32Speaker 11: down the highway, Moving towards Mother's Day, here's all the
- 21:37Speaker 11: shit you can buy. Now, listen, nothing says love like
- 21:41Speaker 11: a licensing agreement. Look at Mummy and little Chloe. I
- 21:46Speaker 11: think that's Chloe. And that's her mum, Maddie. Maddie and
- 21:50Speaker 11: Chloe in their little bear jammies.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Lovely.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I mean, Audi is so bizarre in that you can
- 21:57Speaker 1: go there and buy like a colouring in book or
- 22:01Speaker 1: a saxophone.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I don't mean to soak.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but if my husband's
- 22:05Speaker 1: getting my Mother's Day present from Aldi, I'm not going
- 22:07Speaker 1: to be happy. Being completely honest, my first Mother's Day,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I think it was, was it two weeks after I
- 22:12Speaker 1: had Harry? I was hoping for that really beautiful, like
- 22:16Speaker 1: fingerprint necklace.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Of the baby or something really sentimental.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And I received a last minute Amazon order and it was,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and I feel terrible because I have to point out
- 22:28Speaker 1: that my husband did an amazing job with the in brackets,
- 22:32Speaker 1: push present. He got me this beautiful Tiffany's necklace. It
- 22:35Speaker 1: had a little blue heart.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Well, it'd be hard for him in such close succession.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I know, it was such close concessions. I'll put that
- 22:39Speaker 2: out there first.
- 22:40Speaker 1: But what he got me, and it actually sounds quite
- 22:43Speaker 1: sentimental now I think of it, but during my postpartum
- 22:47Speaker 1: pregnancy hormonal phase, I did not appreciate getting a frame
- 22:51Speaker 1: of that had some clay hands that I was meant to,
- 22:54Speaker 1: you know, mould Harry's hands from.
- 22:56Speaker 3: You can see where he was going. But hideous.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I don't want that in my house. No, it was
- 22:59Speaker 2: pretty ugly.
- 23:00Speaker 1: It's different if your kid does that at school, but
- 23:02Speaker 1: like the fact that you actually have the mental load
- 23:05Speaker 1: of making sure that you use it when your kid's
- 23:07Speaker 1: hands can fit in the mould.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, it arrived a day before Mother's Day.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I remember getting this text message.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And I said, is that my gift? And he was like, yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And I said, are you serious?
- 23:19Speaker 1: And I, yeah, anyway, he ended up having to go
- 23:21Speaker 1: out and rush and purchase something else.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Did he give it to you the day before as
- 23:25Speaker 3: well or just?
- 23:26Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I think he said, oh, yeah, there's your Mother's Day present.
- 23:28Speaker 3: It wasn't wrapped or anything.
- 23:29Speaker 1: See, my husband does that like the day before I
- 23:31Speaker 1: gave birth. He gave me my push present beforehand and
- 23:34Speaker 1: I was like, but I haven't pushed or, I mean,
- 23:36Speaker 1: had him surgically removed. Like, you know. Actually, he gave
- 23:38Speaker 1: me the push present right after as in like when
- 23:40Speaker 1: we're in the hospital room.
- 23:41Speaker 2: That was very sweet.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I think that a lot of men, maybe they don't
- 23:44Speaker 1: realize how important Mother's Day is.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And one US content.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Creator, she said, really all moms want, a lot of
- 23:52Speaker 1: moms will say, I just want nothing. And the reason
- 23:54Speaker 1: we say we want nothing is because we just want
- 23:57Speaker 1: someone to take the mental load from us. Let's have
- 23:59Speaker 1: a listen because she put this so well.
- 24:02Speaker 12: Have you ever noticed how on Mother's Day, so many
- 24:04Speaker 12: women will simply ask for nothing?
- 24:06Speaker 6: They'll say, I just want a day where I do nothing.
- 24:08Speaker 6: That is what I want for Mother's Day.
- 24:09Speaker 12: A day where I don't have to plan anything, where
- 24:11Speaker 12: I don't have to coordinate anything, where I.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Don't have to make any decisions.
- 24:13Speaker 12: I don't have to make any little people food. I
- 24:15Speaker 12: just want a day where I get to do nothing.
- 24:18Speaker 12: And their husbands will come to them and say, babe,
- 24:19Speaker 12: that sounds great.
- 24:20Speaker 6: That's easy. I'll handle everything. All you have to do
- 24:22Speaker 6: is enjoy yourself. I am on it. But then their
- 24:26Speaker 6: husbands will come to them and ask them to make
- 24:28Speaker 6: a million decisions. They will say, babe, I was thinking
- 24:30Speaker 6: massage or brunch. Which one do you want?
- 24:32Speaker 12: Okay, well, I'll book a brunch. What restaurant do you
- 24:34Speaker 12: want to go to? Okay, what time works best? Should
- 24:36Speaker 12: we do 11 or should.
- 24:37Speaker 4: We do one?
- 24:38Speaker 12: What do you think with the baby's nap? You let
- 24:39Speaker 12: me know and I'll book one of them. And then
- 24:41Speaker 12: they'll say something along the lines of, oh, we should
- 24:43Speaker 12: invite your mom and maybe my mom too.
- 24:44Speaker 6: That sounds fun, right? But did you get them gifts?
- 24:46Speaker 6: I don't have any good ideas for my mom. Do
- 24:48Speaker 6: you have any ideas?
- 24:49Speaker 12: Could you send me a link with a few ideas
- 24:50Speaker 12: and I can buy her something? Actually, if you already
- 24:52Speaker 12: have ideas, do you mind buying it for her?
- 24:53Speaker 6: Thank you. That's amazing. Thank you, babe.
- 24:55Speaker 12: They will come to their wife and they will ask
- 24:57Speaker 12: them for a list and times and restaurants and what
- 24:59Speaker 12: day they want to go. They will ask them to
- 25:01Speaker 12: coordinate everything when all they asked for, all their wife
- 25:04Speaker 12: asked for, was to do nothing.
- 25:06Speaker 6: She didn't want to do anything on.
- 25:07Speaker 12: That day because every other day of the year she's
- 25:08Speaker 12: expected to coordinate everything for every single person and she's
- 25:11Speaker 12: exhausted from making decisions all the time and so she
- 25:13Speaker 12: just wanted one day where her partner knew her well
- 25:15Speaker 12: enough to plan everything for her, to coordinate everything, to
- 25:19Speaker 12: handle everything so she didn't have to, so she could
- 25:21Speaker 12: just enjoy herself without having to be the person managing.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Everything and she doesn't get that.
- 25:25Speaker 12: And so if your wife is frustrated because she asked
- 25:27Speaker 12: for nothing and this is what happened, that is why.
- 25:29Speaker 6: It's because she actually wanted to do nothing.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It's so true, but if my husband is listening to
- 25:35Speaker 1: this podcast, he's going to laugh because whenever he actually,
- 25:39Speaker 1: you know, he goes, I'm making a decision and says,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I want to go here.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I go, oh, but I don't really want to go there.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I want to go here.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Like it's when you actually get my true answer of
- 25:45Speaker 1: what I want to do. The thing is, they should
- 25:48Speaker 1: know you. You feel like that my husband should know
- 25:51Speaker 1: where I want to go for dinner. They should know
- 25:53Speaker 1: that I would prefer to go to brunch than go
- 25:56Speaker 1: to a massage or whatever. That's the thing also, that's
- 25:58Speaker 1: the magic of a present, that it's a bit of
- 26:00Speaker 1: a surprise and the person's actually thought really hard about
- 26:04Speaker 1: what you want and if you've dropped any hints over
- 26:07Speaker 1: the year. There's a girl that I've got on Facebook
- 26:09Speaker 1: and we went to primary school with her. So I
- 26:11Speaker 1: haven't seen her in a very long time. every Mother's
- 26:15Speaker 1: Day she will put up a status about how she's
- 26:17Speaker 1: had the worst day and that her husband has given
- 26:19Speaker 1: her a shit gift. This also happens on Valentine's Day.
- 26:22Speaker 1: It's a triggering day for a lot of people.
- 26:23Speaker 4: It is.
- 26:24Speaker 1: It is. And there are so many mums who don't receive,
- 26:27Speaker 1: like as in, I say they don't receive anything, but
- 26:29Speaker 1: they don't receive breakfast in bed. They don't receive a card.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It's not like you have to spend all this money.
- 26:33Speaker 1: It's just something thoughtful.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I'm getting a flashback to Father's Day.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I think Luca was like two months old, maybe touching
- 26:39Speaker 1: on three. And we were still doing overnight feeds.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I took one for the team.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I think I did the 3 a.m.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Feed.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And then I was like, oh, my God, I haven't
- 26:49Speaker 1: made my husband any sort of breakfast. So I literally
- 26:51Speaker 1: rung up the cafe and they could do like takeaway pancakes.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But then I'm like, how am I going to get
- 26:58Speaker 1: there to pick it up? I ordered it anyway. And
- 27:00Speaker 1: then I was like, how am I even getting notified
- 27:03Speaker 1: when my order's ready?
- 27:04Speaker 2: Rung them back up. Oh, actually, we don't do it.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Anyway, it was an absolute nightmare.
- 27:08Speaker 1: But my husband kept joking that I didn't do breakfast
- 27:10Speaker 1: for him.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Really?
- 27:11Speaker 1: But it was a bit of a joke because, I mean,
- 27:13Speaker 1: we were both in it at that stage.
- 27:15Speaker 3: It was really funny.
- 27:17Speaker 1: No, but at the time I felt really bad because
- 27:21Speaker 1: I kind of got him a bit of a crappy gift,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but I was just so in it that I just
- 27:25Speaker 1: couldn't even work out anything. I saw a lot of
- 27:28Speaker 1: women on TikTok saying, my husband told me that they
- 27:31Speaker 1: don't need to give me a gift because I'm not
- 27:33Speaker 1: their mother. See, that's definitely not my husband. My husband
- 27:37Speaker 1: is so thoughtful when it comes to presents.
- 27:39Speaker 3: But you're getting it on behalf of your child.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 27:41Speaker 3: I don't understand that.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I mean, obviously once– it's not like our dad still
- 27:46Speaker 1: buys mum a Mother's Day present. Like once your kids
- 27:48Speaker 1: have their own money, of course, it's on to you.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Do you know what it is now as well?
- 27:52Speaker 1: I remember last Mother's Day waking up.
- 27:54Speaker 2: And I don't know who, I think it was Dale
- 27:56Speaker 2: did it first.
- 27:56Speaker 1: He did this really beautiful social media post saying what
- 28:00Speaker 1: a wonderful mother you were. And then like five minutes later,
- 28:03Speaker 1: one popped up from race and Brandon and I were like, fuck,
- 28:05Speaker 1: they seem scared. And then Brandon said, would you like
- 28:07Speaker 1: me to share one about you? Like, I know we
- 28:09Speaker 1: haven't had the baby yet, but you know, cause you've
- 28:10Speaker 1: been pregnant. I don't want to like misstep here. Dale
- 28:13Speaker 1: was so scared about which photo he was and wasn't
- 28:15Speaker 1: allowed to share.
- 28:16Speaker 2: He was like, could you please send.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Me some approved photographs?
- 28:19Speaker 1: I reckon it's because years ago, I think it was
- 28:21Speaker 1: eight years ago when you and Dale were in Europe.
- 28:23Speaker 1: And obviously with the time difference, he shared a photo
- 28:26Speaker 1: of you and we all woke up to the photo.
- 28:29Speaker 2: And it was basically you with your.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Glasses on in tracky ducks, hoeing into a like dominoes
- 28:36Speaker 1: or something, lying in bed. It definitely wasn't dominoes overseas.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Whatever it was, some takeaway pizza. And he shared it
- 28:43Speaker 1: with like love heart eyes or something. And I immediately
- 28:45Speaker 1: saw it and was like, Amy's going to fucking hate
- 28:47Speaker 1: this photo. Well, yeah, I'd gone to sleep and I
- 28:49Speaker 1: had also woken up to see that this photo had
- 28:51Speaker 1: been liked by.
- 28:52Speaker 3: A lot of people.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And didn't, I think one of Dad's friends was like, God,
- 28:56Speaker 1: describe the perfect woman.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Well, the perfect woman doesn't exist, dot, dot, dot. Yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 1: That is a tip for any Dads listening, particularly if
- 29:04Speaker 1: you're going to post a postpartum photo, like a fresh
- 29:07Speaker 1: newborn photo.
- 29:07Speaker 3: With your wife.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Make sure she approves of it.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, go back and check which one she's posted of
- 29:11Speaker 1: herself because that's usually indication of the ones that she likes.
- 29:14Speaker 1: In terms of women celebrating Mother's Day when they're pregnant,
- 29:19Speaker 1: do you think the partner.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Has to get them a gift?
- 29:21Speaker 1: My husband did. He bought me some AirPods again. I
- 29:23Speaker 1: think he was a bit scared.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:25Speaker 3: As I said, he's fantastic at presents.
- 29:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 3: That's his love language.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say both of you, your
- 29:30Speaker 1: love language is gifts. That's why I felt so bad
- 29:33Speaker 1: about the Father's Day because it didn't do well. I
- 29:34Speaker 1: think a cute little card or something or, yeah, something
- 29:37Speaker 1: quite sentimental.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Bunch of flowers. Bunch of flowers.
- 29:39Speaker 1: That's easy see my husband is known for giving flowers
- 29:42Speaker 1: and I think that's why everyone was shocked the mother's
- 29:44Speaker 1: day I was I think I was probably around 30
- 29:46Speaker 1: weeks pregnant and we actually were at Marion going to
- 29:51Speaker 1: buy a mother's day present I think for his mum
- 29:54Speaker 1: And we saw our uncle and auntie and my auntie's like.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Oh, my God. So have you already got Kate's gift?
- 29:59Speaker 1: And his face literally like you could see the blood
- 30:01Speaker 1: drain from it. And then he goes to me, oh,
- 30:03Speaker 1: was I meant to get you a gift? And it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: literally the worst question people can ask. Like, oh, was
- 30:07Speaker 1: I meant to do that? Because you know when you're like, oh,
- 30:10Speaker 1: don't be upset about it.
- 30:12Speaker 4: It's fine.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It's not a big deal.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But the fact that they ask you and you have
- 30:16Speaker 1: to be like, oh, no.
- 30:17Speaker 3: But inside your head you're like, well, yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 2: This is the worst thing about these TikToks.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Giving men advice like oh you know get your wife
- 30:25Speaker 1: this and that at the end they all say oh
- 30:27Speaker 1: share this with your husband you're hardly gonna share them
- 30:30Speaker 1: this cute like these videos needs to start trending on
- 30:34Speaker 1: the men's for you pages some people share them like
- 30:36Speaker 1: so you'd send a video of like i need candid
- 30:40Speaker 1: photos oh we're not that in terms of these videos
- 30:43Speaker 1: and how the algorithm works Don't you think it's almost
- 30:46Speaker 1: a stick to measure how good your Mother's Day was?
- 30:48Speaker 1: And like, let's be honest, most men aren't going to
- 30:50Speaker 1: be ticking all the boxes that G Bungalow has set out.
- 30:53Speaker 1: So don't you think almost a lot of people are
- 30:55Speaker 1: building themselves up to be pissed off and upset on
- 30:58Speaker 1: Mother's Day? One video I did share with my husband
- 31:00Speaker 1: was a doctor showing just how big the epidural needle was.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And I said, just remember, it's Mother's Day.
- 31:07Speaker 3: And this is what they went through.
- 31:09Speaker 1: You were sending this around and- You saw this and said, Soph,
- 31:13Speaker 1: just have TikTok because like it was a couple of
- 31:16Speaker 1: weeks before giving birth.
- 31:18Speaker 3: That's the last thing you would have wanted to see.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I just want to reiterate because there's been a lot
- 31:21Speaker 1: of chat about gifts and it's not about the money
- 31:24Speaker 1: you spend on it.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I think it's about the thought.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I mean, most women have said I'd be chuffed with
- 31:28Speaker 1: a nice card that had a thoughtful message in it.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And Sophie would like a piece of jewelry.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I saw a woman on TikTok saying that she thinks
- 31:35Speaker 1: a Mother's Day gift it shouldn't be held to the
- 31:38Speaker 1: same standard as a birthday.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Present, say, from your husband.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I agree.
- 31:42Speaker 1: It's not as big and as special as that. But
- 31:45Speaker 1: as you said, it's this moment of you wanting your
- 31:48Speaker 1: husband to go, I know you, this is something I
- 31:50Speaker 1: know that you would like.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Or to be appreciated, for your sacrifices to be appreciated.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I don't even think the gift has to be out
- 31:55Speaker 1: of this world. Like for me, I'd be happy with
- 31:58Speaker 1: a glass house candle or- A listening race? Yeah, some
- 32:01Speaker 1: like nice pajamas or something. Like it can be stereotypical,
- 32:05Speaker 1: the things that are advertised. I think it's more that
- 32:08Speaker 1: you just want to feel appreciated in one moment during
- 32:11Speaker 1: that day, whether it is going to the extent of
- 32:13Speaker 1: making you breakfast in bed or saying, hey, don't worry,
- 32:17Speaker 1: I'll do this feed or I'll take the boys.
- 32:20Speaker 3: For a walk.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yeah, mum's being given time not to have to do
- 32:23Speaker 1: the mundane stuff, which they're normally going to be doing,
- 32:25Speaker 1: like the breakfast for the kid. Maybe you put your
- 32:28Speaker 1: feet up and you watch your favourite show while I
- 32:30Speaker 1: take said kid out and do something.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Well, it's a shame that 99.9% of our audience are females,
- 32:37Speaker 1: bar our husbands that listen, because I really would.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Have liked to help the other wives out there.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Well, we are going to be putting some of these
- 32:43Speaker 2: clips on TikTok and Instagram.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Actually, maybe we should put them on Facebook Reels so
- 32:47Speaker 1: the husband sees them.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Let's be honest, they're not actually on TikTok.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Let's get into our recommendations of the week. And Amy,
- 32:54Speaker 1: you have a birthday party adjacent one.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Yes, I do.
- 32:57Speaker 1: So a lovely listener called Ebony reached out to me
- 33:00Speaker 1: before Harry's party, and she kindly gifted me the most
- 33:03Speaker 1: amazing sugar cookie. So she has a business in New
- 33:06Speaker 1: South Wales called Crumbs and Sprinkles. So look up at
- 33:10Speaker 1: Crumbs and Sprinkles, two underscores, on Instagram. Go show her
- 33:14Speaker 1: some love. They were the most amazing sugar cookies I've
- 33:17Speaker 1: ever had. She asked me, she's like, oh, so what colors,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, what's the theme? And I gave her a
- 33:21Speaker 1: few brief details. I was in awe at how good
- 33:24Speaker 1: these cookies looked.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Everyone was like, oh my God, these are amazing.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Oh, I was blown away. I actually didn't hear the
- 33:29Speaker 3: backstory and I was like, where the hell did you
- 33:30Speaker 3: get these from? They're so good.
- 33:32Speaker 4: I know.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And she posted them all the way from New South Wales.
- 33:34Speaker 1: So a big thank you and a big shout out
- 33:36Speaker 1: and mum's group, go and show her some love.
- 33:38Speaker 3: What an absolute legend.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Well, we do have a very special episode coming out
- 33:42Speaker 1: next week for Mother's Day.
- 33:43Speaker 2: We interviewed our mother.
- 33:45Speaker 1: About what it's like being a triplet mum. This was
- 33:47Speaker 1: a much requested episode. Yeah, we had so many of
- 33:50Speaker 1: you hitting up our inboxes saying, we need your mum
- 33:52Speaker 1: on the show.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Now we've already recorded it. She did not disappoint.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I think she should take over podcasting because she was
- 34:00Speaker 1: so articulate. The advice she gave was great and it
- 34:04Speaker 1: gives you a really interesting insight into what it's really
- 34:07Speaker 1: like for mums of multiples. Well, that is where we're
- 34:11Speaker 1: going to leave things. But if you do enjoy the podcast,
- 34:13Speaker 1: can you please make sure you are following us on
