- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Episode 63! Luna: Hey Lucas! Ready for another episode. I'm in the mood for something sweet today. Lucas: Ohh, that sounds perfect. Because today we're going to an ice cream shop. We're going to learn how to order ice cream in Spanish. Luna: Yes! I love ice cream. Let's do it. Lucas: Great. So the first thing you say when you walk in is: Quiero un helado. Luna: Quiero un helado. Lucas: Exactly. That means 'I want an ice cream.' Quiero un helado. Luna: Quiero un helado. I love how that sounds. Lucas: Right. So you say that to the server. Then they'll probably ask: ¿De qué sabor? Luna: ¿De qué sabor? Lucas: Yes. That means 'What flavor?' Luna: ¿De qué sabor? Okay, I think I can remember that. Lucas: You got it. So you answer with the flavor. For example: De chocolate. Luna: De chocolate. Lucas: Perfect. 'Chocolate flavor.' So the whole exchange so far: Quiero un helado. ¿De qué sabor? De chocolate. Luna: Quiero un helado. ¿De qué sabor? De chocolate. Lucas: You're already ordering! Now after you tell them the flavor, you'll want to know the price. So you ask: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Exactly. That means 'How much does it cost?' Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? I feel like we've used that before. Lucas: Yes, in past episodes. Good memory! So the server will say something like: Dos euros. Luna: Dos euros. Two euros. Simple. Lucas: Right. Then you give the money and they say: Aquí tiene. Luna: Aquí tiene. Lucas: That means 'Here you go.' It's a polite way to hand something to someone. Luna: Ah, I love that. Aquí tiene. So the whole conversation is: Quiero un helado. ¿De qué sabor? De chocolate. ¿Cuánto cuesta? Dos euros. Aquí tiene. Lucas: Yes! You just ordered and paid. Let's practice that together slowly. Repeat after me: Quiero un helado. Luna: Quiero un helado. Lucas: ¿De qué sabor? Luna: ¿De qué sabor? Lucas: De chocolate. Luna: De chocolate. Lucas: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Dos euros. Luna: Dos euros. Lucas: Aquí tiene. Luna: Aquí tiene. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's put it together in a little scene. I'll be the server, you be the customer. Ready? Luna: Ready! Lucas: Buenos días. ¿Qué desea? Luna: Quiero un helado. Lucas: ¿De qué sabor? Luna: De chocolate. Lucas: Muy bien. ¿Algo más? Luna: No, gracias. ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Dos euros. Luna: Aquí tiene. Lucas: Gracias. ¡Disfrute su helado! Luna: Oh, I love that! 'Enjoy your ice cream.' Gracias, Lucas. So now I can order ice cream in Spanish. Lucas: You sure can. Let's do a quick review. The first phrase: Quiero un helado. Luna: Quiero un helado. Lucas: The question: ¿De qué sabor? Luna: ¿De qué sabor? Lucas: Your answer: De chocolate. Luna: De chocolate. Lucas: Asking the price: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: The price: Dos euros. Luna: Dos euros. Lucas: And handing over: Aquí tiene. Luna: Aquí tiene. Lucas: Perfect. And remember, you can substitute 'chocolate' for any flavor. Vainilla, fresa, menta... Luna: Vainilla? That's vanilla. Lucas: Right. And fresa is strawberry. Menta is mint. Luna: Ooh, I want a sabor de menta next time. Lucas: There you go. You can say: Quiero un helado de menta. Luna: Quiero un helado de menta. I love it. Lucas: Keep practicing these phrases, and next time you're at an ice cream shop, try ordering in Spanish. You'll be surprised how much the server appreciates it. Luna: Absolutely. Thanks for another great episode, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. And thanks to Fexingo for making this possible. Remember to subscribe and practice. See you next time! Luna: ¡Hasta luego!
