- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:09Speaker 1: original poet, Welcome to Patriot It's unfiltered. More football is great.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I don't care. It's not more football, it's bad foot.
- 0:22Speaker 1: All right. We must say that Nate Hackett got fired
- 0:25Speaker 1: along with him. He's Nate. Now I did the same,
- 0:28Speaker 1: would kill him. The last one he's throws into double coverage, like,
- 0:31Speaker 1: what are you thinking? Well, well, you see, Paul, it
- 0:34Speaker 1: probably wasn't thinking clearly. His brain hit his skull. Gino's
- 0:37Speaker 1: piece had to do with a dream I had. Well,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we'll get into that sometimes. Yeah, No, it's about dreaming
- 0:44Speaker 1: about Geno's peace unit. Remember Johnson. A lot of coaches
- 0:49Speaker 1: will teach the players to actually high five and not
- 0:52Speaker 1: like that, but the point of doing it. We're running mesh, guys.
- 0:57Speaker 1: The point of the high five. This is a guy
- 1:00Speaker 1: thinking about Mac. You know, why don't you guys talk
- 1:02Speaker 1: to you know, let me know what you think or
- 1:03Speaker 1: whatever you know. No, no, like I'm snarky, he's flat
- 1:08Speaker 1: out me. Sounds like their vacuuming outside. What's going on
- 1:12Speaker 1: for the mass of the Patriots on the field. He's
- 1:14Speaker 1: Patriot's unfiltered, fueled by all Right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium, getting ready for the
- 1:26Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins, and uh two remains in concussion. Oh he's out,
- 1:31Speaker 1: Oh he is, Yeah, McDaniel announced the Okay, he did
- 1:35Speaker 1: have a concussion. Okay, had a concussion. He has a concussion,
- 1:38Speaker 1: and so he's Teddy Bridgewater will start, Teddy two gloves.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Oh wait a minute, could you just said he's out
- 1:44Speaker 1: of protocol. No, he's out, he's out. Teddy Bridgewater will start. Okay,
- 1:49Speaker 1: because I was confused, Daniel. I just saw that he
- 1:52Speaker 1: remained in protocol and maybe you had an he had
- 1:54Speaker 1: No McDaniel said he has a concussion, and Teddy Bridgewater
- 1:57Speaker 1: will start. Okay, you know, always works stuff. Let's hope.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So this is their jam though, I mean, no quarterback,
- 2:03Speaker 1: let's go. I would expect the Dolphins to lose by
- 2:06Speaker 1: one hundred and twelve points because they had you know,
- 2:08Speaker 1: the stupidity of actually saying it on Wednesday. I don't
- 2:11Speaker 1: know how you can play a game when well, now
- 2:12Speaker 1: they're gonna just prepare for Teddy Bridgewater and we're gonna
- 2:14Speaker 1: be completely ready for them, correct, right, that's why we're
- 2:17Speaker 1: out in the field. It moved out to the field today.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Kind of interesting practice. Yeah, in the stadium, practice in
- 2:22Speaker 1: the bowl. Um. Any thoughts on that, No, I have
- 2:26Speaker 1: not not one. No, No, I'll let you guys fight it.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Usually it's a Friday thing you get close to the
- 2:31Speaker 1: end of the season. I feel like they do the
- 2:32Speaker 1: last walk through. Um, but I don't know. I think
- 2:35Speaker 1: usually Wednesdays are like first second down days where it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: a lot of like that that kind of stuff you're
- 2:40Speaker 1: putting in and tomorrow's like third down, red zone that
- 2:42Speaker 1: kind of stuff. It could be just a field maintenance
- 2:45Speaker 1: thing on the practice fields because I noticed, like a
- 2:48Speaker 1: couple weeks ago, I went out and they had like
- 2:52Speaker 1: these lights that are on a grid and they were
- 2:56Speaker 1: actually heating up a section of the grass that they
- 2:59Speaker 1: were trying to grow on the lower practice field. Nice
- 3:04Speaker 1: supposed to Yeah, you can put Jesus out of it. Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: growing grass out there with that was going on. So maybe,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's just a field maintenance thing. Yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know, maybe things got torn up because of the
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know, the quick freeze that we had and now
- 3:17Speaker 1: they're trying to recover from that or something like that.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You know, I you know, like you think, oh, what's this,
- 3:22Speaker 1: you know, competitive reason and it could be like something
- 3:25Speaker 1: as simple as that. You know, field Boyd took a
- 3:27Speaker 1: dump on the field. They couldn't paint it up fast enough, right,
- 3:31Speaker 1: he's the dog. Just you know, it's not we don't
- 3:33Speaker 1: have better than the team on the field yesterday. He's
- 3:38Speaker 1: just rude. Yeah, very very rude. Means yes, I am.
- 3:42Speaker 1: As we were waiting for Bill here to kick us
- 3:44Speaker 1: off on our on our Wednesday. It does. We'll go
- 3:46Speaker 1: to him, see what the initial questions are about, see
- 3:50Speaker 1: if there's anything of interest, and if if not, then
- 3:53Speaker 1: we'll come right back to the show. But was preparing
- 3:55Speaker 1: for Teddy Bridgewater playing change their offense and make all
- 4:00Speaker 1: the throws. But both gloves a lot of experience in
- 4:03Speaker 1: the league. He's won in this league. Obviously we've seen Teddy.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Can I ask cast a little question? I um, I'm
- 4:09Speaker 1: just what do you think Miami's mindset? What do you
- 4:11Speaker 1: think they're thinking with this whole situation. It's it's a
- 4:13Speaker 1: really hard position for a team to be in because
- 4:15Speaker 1: on one hand, you had too a plane great this
- 4:17Speaker 1: year for for a period of time, and it seemed like, man,
- 4:20Speaker 1: this is kind of putting some of the chatter to rest.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Now he's got a real, like potential issue that could
- 4:26Speaker 1: end his career. I mean, he could potentially retire. How
- 4:28Speaker 1: do you approach that as an organization when he's got
- 4:30Speaker 1: kind of got a guy, but we kind of don't
- 4:32Speaker 1: have a Ya, he's got an issue. When McDaniel has
- 4:34Speaker 1: an issue, you know, because ultimately it's going to be
- 4:37Speaker 1: his decision next year about like how much do we
- 4:41Speaker 1: invest in this guy because he's gonna assume he's never
- 4:44Speaker 1: gonna get concussed again. Like, I mean, it's just it's
- 4:46Speaker 1: it seems like now whenever he gets hit and hits
- 4:48Speaker 1: the ground, it's got a concussion prone quarterback, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: And and it's a it's a huge issue, and it's
- 4:55Speaker 1: not an easy want to navigate because of the yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know the nature of the injury. And man, I
- 5:01Speaker 1: think it's probably three at the very least, it's three
- 5:04Speaker 1: incidents in one season. Like you have to think long
- 5:07Speaker 1: and hard if you're too uh, you know, should I
- 5:10Speaker 1: keep playing? Is it worth it for me to keep playing? Yeah?
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I mean, I think that they will be in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the market. I know I was joking yesterday, you know
- 5:19Speaker 1: about Brady, but they should be in the market for
- 5:22Speaker 1: a veteran. Yeah, is that what you would do? You think,
- 5:24Speaker 1: like I try to get a guy. Maybe not, they're
- 5:26Speaker 1: not going to be in position. Well do they have
- 5:29Speaker 1: extra do they have any more of those extra draft picks?
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm not sure what Miami situation is. I shouldn't say
- 5:33Speaker 1: they don't because they're not going to be in position
- 5:35Speaker 1: to take a quarterback high chub chub. Yeah, I think
- 5:39Speaker 1: they did the kind of here comes Bill. I don't know.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Let's see what Bill has to say. All right, slighting
- 5:46Speaker 1: week here for the Dolphins. Seems like I spent a
- 5:50Speaker 1: long time since we were just down there, but it
- 5:55Speaker 1: has been that's a lot of a lot of water
- 5:57Speaker 1: under the bridge since then. But um, yeah, good football team.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Look a lot like they look. They've looked allier like
- 6:04Speaker 1: they've looked in the past. Honestly, defensively, a big physical
- 6:08Speaker 1: team on defense. Um, have some fast players in the
- 6:11Speaker 1: kicking game, some other physical guys, and they're explosive on offense.
- 6:16Speaker 1: So um, you know, they've they look really, really impressive
- 6:21Speaker 1: at times, and you know, no, it's an important game
- 6:27Speaker 1: here obviously, so do everything we can to play our
- 6:31Speaker 1: best game on Sunday. That's what we need to do.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That's what adults take, and that's what that's what we're
- 6:36Speaker 1: preparing for. You've always said that you prepare for everybody
- 6:41Speaker 1: that's on the roster, and you've got two and you've
- 6:44Speaker 1: got Teddy Bridgewater with situation this week. Is this a
- 6:47Speaker 1: case where you have to prepare actually two different things
- 6:50Speaker 1: because two and Teddy Bridgewater they're definitely different quarterbacks and
- 6:53Speaker 1: they do different things. Situation. You can't go in a
- 7:01Speaker 1: game with two different offenses. It's impossible. So once right
- 7:05Speaker 1: hand and once left handed. I mean that definitely affects
- 7:07Speaker 1: some things right there, but that's we could be looking
- 7:10Speaker 1: at a different quarterback, just like are in Arizona, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: in the first series of the game. So yeah, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 1: some audio issues there, so I don't want to make
- 7:19Speaker 1: our listeners ears bleed yet. But I obviously that was
- 7:23Speaker 1: Allan's seed over. That was Alan Siegel that asked that question.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He hadn't gotten the news. But Tua is out, so
- 7:31Speaker 1: you will be going with the right handed Yeah, McDaniel,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I'm not I didn't like misread that right, And McDaniel
- 7:37Speaker 1: said he's in concussion protocol and Teddy Bridgewater will start.
- 7:40Speaker 1: He talked about having him. He was up last night,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you know, after ten o'clock talking to Bridgewater about the week,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and you know what they were going to do. And
- 7:50Speaker 1: now I kind of agree with Bill in the regard.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I mean, obviously righty, lefty and all that stuff, but
- 7:54Speaker 1: it's going to be the offense is going to be
- 7:57Speaker 1: pretty similar, and they do have the ability to go
- 8:00Speaker 1: back and look at a couple of games that Bridgewaters started.
- 8:03Speaker 1: They didn't win the games, and they weren't as productive
- 8:06Speaker 1: offensively as they were with Tah. But he played reasonably
- 8:10Speaker 1: well for the bulk of the game against Cincinnati on
- 8:13Speaker 1: the Thursday night when he had to replace Toah. And
- 8:16Speaker 1: he played um reasonably well against Minnesota. I think he
- 8:20Speaker 1: threw for over three hundred yards against the Vikings, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: really the big play in that game was a jail
- 8:25Speaker 1: and waddle fumble late in the game. He had a
- 8:29Speaker 1: big play across the middle. I remember seeing it Mike
- 8:32Speaker 1: on Red Zone during the postgame show that week, and
- 8:35Speaker 1: he fumbled the ball and you know, I don't think
- 8:37Speaker 1: his numbers were great, but they weren't. They weren't bad.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You know. I think he kind of guy who you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: in a stretch, he can he can help you out.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It's not Sam Ellinger. You know, we were just talking
- 8:45Speaker 1: about Matt Smith and he was saying, you know, Ellinger,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you know, this is not like the same as backup quarterback.
- 8:51Speaker 1: This is a guy who's played in the UT. Now.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's very good, and I don't think
- 8:55Speaker 1: he's as good as Tah, But it's not Sam Ellinger.
- 8:58Speaker 1: It's not Colt McCoy. Yeah, yeah, not Jacobe Brossett. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: mean there's a little bit better player than that. I mean, still,
- 9:06Speaker 1: the for the Patriots, the focus has to be the offense,
- 9:10Speaker 1: like can we score points? You know, forget about Teddy Bridgewater,
- 9:13Speaker 1: you know, forget about that. You know, can we score points? Well?
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean the whole thing about playing the backup quarterback
- 9:21Speaker 1: is you might not have to no, but but you
- 9:23Speaker 1: know the bar might be a little lower, Like you
- 9:24Speaker 1: didn't have to score at Pittsburgh. Regardless of that, you
- 9:30Speaker 1: need your offense to show some signs of life. They
- 9:33Speaker 1: don't have to do something, and they're certainly gonna have
- 9:34Speaker 1: to eliminate the dumb mistakes right at the end in
- 9:37Speaker 1: the most critical moments. But you know, I think they
- 9:39Speaker 1: they've done an okay job overall of limiting you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: some of those mistakes lately, which were such a problem
- 9:44Speaker 1: earlier in the season. They've improved there, you know, standing
- 9:46Speaker 1: in as far as turnovers. But I think it just
- 9:48Speaker 1: shows how bad they are because usually if you eliminated
- 9:52Speaker 1: those turnovers, you'd feel like there was a monumental kind
- 9:54Speaker 1: of turnaround. And it just feels like, all right now,
- 9:57Speaker 1: at least they are maybe giving themselves a chance. Before
- 10:00Speaker 1: they didn't really have a chance when they were going
- 10:02Speaker 1: into games turning the ball over. I mean, they're just
- 10:04Speaker 1: going back and looking at the first Miami game right
- 10:06Speaker 1: off the bat, after watching that whole summer of training
- 10:09Speaker 1: camp and what we talked about yesterday, all the sporadic
- 10:12Speaker 1: nature of the offense. You know, they come out, they
- 10:14Speaker 1: kind of go right down the field and then macdows
- 10:16Speaker 1: that pick and it was, you know, kind of the
- 10:18Speaker 1: table was somewhat set for the year, and you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and then Miami just continued to kind of pull pour
- 10:23Speaker 1: it on in the first half. I mean, it's just
- 10:25Speaker 1: it's similar to what we saw last week where they
- 10:27Speaker 1: come out they make it up on mistakes. They were
- 10:29Speaker 1: in a hole and they got to figure out how
- 10:30Speaker 1: to dig their way out of it. So maybe it's
- 10:32Speaker 1: your point, Fred, it's all about they just have a
- 10:34Speaker 1: good start, you know, have a good start, get a
- 10:36Speaker 1: little bit of a lead, and see what happens. See
- 10:38Speaker 1: what happens when when the offense is actually playing from
- 10:41Speaker 1: in front or you know, maybe even dare I say,
- 10:43Speaker 1: feeling kind of good about themselves. Hey, we just had
- 10:45Speaker 1: a really good first drive, like I would be even
- 10:47Speaker 1: okay with okay first drive, you get a few first downs.
- 10:51Speaker 1: So when you're punting, you know, maybe you're punting inside
- 10:54Speaker 1: their ten and they're starting inside the twenty instead of
- 10:58Speaker 1: the thirty five. You know, like those little the hidden yards.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Now that makes a difference, you know, didn't you know
- 11:04Speaker 1: the punting situations to watch this week with you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: Jake Bailey and I mean I think the kickoffs is
- 11:10Speaker 1: starting to get a little bit more of attention. I mean,
- 11:13Speaker 1: you know, Paul has been all over this with with
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, just the punt team and the kickoff team.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I mean, those two sides of the ball have just
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, not really been helping all that much in
- 11:22Speaker 1: terms of field position lately. And I think early in
- 11:24Speaker 1: the year they were like the number one offense for
- 11:26Speaker 1: starting field positions, So I mean they were on that
- 11:28Speaker 1: side of the ball getting a good boost. But you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: on the other side of the ball, it's it's been
- 11:32Speaker 1: a little bit hit or miss. Yeah, I mean, I
- 11:35Speaker 1: do think that what you guys are talking about, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: getting the lead and playing with a little bit more
- 11:40Speaker 1: confidence earlier in games, and it you know, they really
- 11:43Speaker 1: haven't been able to do that for a while now. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you know, I think, uh, they really haven't had they
- 11:53Speaker 1: haven't had the ball in the lead. It seems like
- 11:55Speaker 1: for you know, like six weeks. Yeah, briefly with the Maiders.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I mean, if they did have the ball with the
- 12:01Speaker 1: lead on that last drive and they went three and out,
- 12:03Speaker 1: that that was true, but that is true. I forgot
- 12:07Speaker 1: that one. And that kind of stands out as, Oh,
- 12:09Speaker 1: my gosh, we've got an opportunity to win the game ourselves,
- 12:12Speaker 1: not you know, not have to. We gotta get a
- 12:14Speaker 1: stop and then we gotta get like just but they
- 12:16Speaker 1: couldn't and even in that game, you know, they had
- 12:18Speaker 1: fallen behind by two scores, but they did. They did
- 12:21Speaker 1: have the lead in the ball late. Um, but they
- 12:23Speaker 1: were chasing in that game. They fell behind in the
- 12:25Speaker 1: Cardinals game, they fell behind in the Bills game. Even
- 12:29Speaker 1: though they took a seven three lead, they immediately went
- 12:31Speaker 1: right back down ten to seven the next drive. Um,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you know, the you probably go back to the Minnesota game,
- 12:38Speaker 1: which I think was kind of back and back and
- 12:40Speaker 1: forth a little bit. And the Patriots did have the
- 12:42Speaker 1: lead in that game that that was Thanksgiving. That was
- 12:45Speaker 1: a long time ago. Yeah. So, um, in terms of injuries,
- 12:50Speaker 1: what do we know, Well, we'll see with the first
- 12:52Speaker 1: injury report today. I mean that's you know, kind of
- 12:54Speaker 1: an interesting one. Curious if you know Jalen Mills and
- 12:57Speaker 1: Jack are able to come back. I mean, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I think we I mean, Damian Harris, like what, I
- 13:02Speaker 1: think that's a good thing. Paul's pointing this out too,
- 13:04Speaker 1: Like Damian Harris, Jaylen Mills, what's going on with those guys?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Like are they you know what I'm starting to worry
- 13:08Speaker 1: I wonder about there, Freddie, Oh yeah, thing, Yeah, I mean,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you know, Damian Harris thigh Brews. I mean, I just
- 13:14Speaker 1: I'm surprised because I figured he's looking at a contract.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I mean, he's gonna want to end this year maybe
- 13:18Speaker 1: with you performance. He just hasn't been part of the team.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It feels like this year. I mean, and the guy
- 13:22Speaker 1: that's been, you know, kind of a team leader, just
- 13:25Speaker 1: doesn't feel like he's been involved. I mean, I struggle
- 13:27Speaker 1: to remember him really having a big impact on the game.
- 13:29Speaker 1: It opened the door for Remondra to, you know, really
- 13:32Speaker 1: take over, but it's just unfortunate. Damian Harris had a
- 13:34Speaker 1: bunch of touchdowns last year, but just hasn't at this point.
- 13:37Speaker 1: If he were active on Sunday, I would expect him
- 13:41Speaker 1: to just like sort of pick up some scrap kind
- 13:43Speaker 1: of carries. Yeah, you know, and I think he can
- 13:46Speaker 1: be better with those, Yeah, I think he. I think
- 13:49Speaker 1: he could be more productive with those than Kevin Harris
- 13:51Speaker 1: and Peter Strong have been. But I'm not really to
- 13:55Speaker 1: your point, Like I can't really think of a Damien
- 13:57Speaker 1: Harris game this year. There were a couple stretches in
- 14:00Speaker 1: games where he looked good, had a couple of good care.
- 14:03Speaker 1: There was one game in particular that he had a
- 14:09Speaker 1: lot more production than Stevenson. And I forget which one
- 14:12Speaker 1: it was now, maybe Buffalo, I mean, I forget which
- 14:15Speaker 1: game it was. But yeah, he hasn't really he hasn't
- 14:19Speaker 1: really clicked like he did at times last year. Yep.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But I think Mills and Jack Jones on the other side,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, given this, I mean, if you have a
- 14:31Speaker 1: backup quarterback playing, even one that has some experience like Bridgewater,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I mean, it's gonna help him out greatly if he
- 14:38Speaker 1: can throw a you know, a fifteen yard crossing route
- 14:41Speaker 1: to waddle and go eighty four yards like he did
- 14:43Speaker 1: last week. Yeah, and he's leading the league in yardspur catch.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So I mean that's what you need. You need some
- 14:50Speaker 1: of those guys out there, you do. You need Jones's speed.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But I don't know if he's gonna be healthy, you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: like him at eighty percent is that good enough? You know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: oh if he's not healthy, yeah, healthy. I'm just saying now,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think they're just you want to get You want
- 15:04Speaker 1: to get Mills and Jones back in there, because I
- 15:05Speaker 1: don't think you want to. I don't think you want
- 15:08Speaker 1: to be down to Marcus Jones and Miles Bryant. No,
- 15:10Speaker 1: you don't even have a rotation right now with what
- 15:12Speaker 1: you have. I mean before they had at least a
- 15:14Speaker 1: rotation with Mills and Jones on Jonathan Jones on the
- 15:16Speaker 1: outside and Jack would kind of work in a little bit,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and then you had some options in the slot to
- 15:20Speaker 1: play with Marcus Jones and Miles Brian a little bit.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But they don't really have those options right now, and
- 15:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's, uh, it's tough, tough duo to kind
- 15:27Speaker 1: of match up with. I am. I mean, I admit
- 15:29Speaker 1: I'm curious when we drafted Marcus Jones watching him play
- 15:32Speaker 1: as a cornerback, just how quick he is, and you
- 15:34Speaker 1: know how how that has ability to stick with guys,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and you know, it was hard not to draw. Not
- 15:38Speaker 1: not that they're going to line them up on Tyreek,
- 15:40Speaker 1: but you know, these are guys that are explosive, and
- 15:42Speaker 1: I think Marcus Jones is one of the few guys
- 15:44Speaker 1: on the roster that you know has the speed to
- 15:46Speaker 1: stick with these guys or at least you know, be competitive.
- 15:49Speaker 1: You know that they are what they are. Though it's
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's it's tough to I think he's going to be
- 15:52Speaker 1: involved with Waddle. I mean, even if even if you
- 15:55Speaker 1: get Jack Jones and Mills back, Like, I think that
- 15:58Speaker 1: Marcus Jones is still going to play a big role,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and I think obviously Jonathan Jones is I think going
- 16:02Speaker 1: to be involved with Tyreek Hill because he's done that
- 16:05Speaker 1: a lot. Yea, So you're going to get an opportunity
- 16:09Speaker 1: to see, you know, how some of these matchups unfold.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's going to come down to
- 16:14Speaker 1: what they do upfront, if they can continue to get
- 16:16Speaker 1: the pressure that they've periodically been able to provide, because
- 16:19Speaker 1: I think if you just sit back and let any
- 16:21Speaker 1: quarterback right surveyed the field with this group of receivers,
- 16:26Speaker 1: it's going to be a long day. Yep. Yeah, I
- 16:28Speaker 1: hope Barmore continues to kind of get backs. Been playing.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think he's been pretty good. I mean he's another
- 16:34Speaker 1: one I kind of have a crush on, so I'll
- 16:36Speaker 1: probably not yeah, I mean, only impartial. I think to
- 16:39Speaker 1: Paul's point, I think what he's part of the product,
- 16:43Speaker 1: you know, on the four guys and getting the rush
- 16:45Speaker 1: and taking attention. I mean, I think we'd all just
- 16:47Speaker 1: like to see him be a little bit more productive
- 16:49Speaker 1: and a little bit more you know, have some of
- 16:51Speaker 1: those signature kind of moments. I mean, I thought against
- 16:53Speaker 1: Derek Carr that first play, I don't think he get credit,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but he I mean, he got on him fast. I
- 16:57Speaker 1: mean that was, you know, probably the one play that
- 16:59Speaker 1: that really stood out so far. But I just that
- 17:02Speaker 1: he's the kind of guy you need. And I mean
- 17:03Speaker 1: I don't I don't remember what his status was last year. Remember,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I think he got hurt against in the initial Buffalo
- 17:09Speaker 1: game and then was kind of we didn't know if
- 17:10Speaker 1: he was gonna be hurt. I don't know if he's
- 17:11Speaker 1: one hundred percent at the end of the year. I
- 17:13Speaker 1: just guys like Mills you didn't have at the end
- 17:15Speaker 1: of last year, you got Covid against Buffalo. Would love
- 17:17Speaker 1: to just see Barmore kind of peak and you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: just put a nice cap to his season so that
- 17:21Speaker 1: you have something coming out of here of oh yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but he got Teddy Bridgewater a couple of times, and
- 17:25Speaker 1: you know it's a big part of that win. Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I think what I've been most impressed about is he
- 17:29Speaker 1: looks like he's better against the run then than he was.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't think he was an every down player last year. Yeah,
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I think he's been asked to do more of
- 17:37Speaker 1: that he's been stout. Yeah yeah, um yeah, so we'll
- 17:41Speaker 1: we'll get our first practice in h Evan will be
- 17:45Speaker 1: at practice today, um and then um they'll actually be
- 17:49Speaker 1: in the locker room later yep. So maybe we'll get
- 17:51Speaker 1: a little mood stuff, get some see what idea of
- 17:54Speaker 1: what the mood is? Well here from mock Yeah, this
- 17:57Speaker 1: afternoon as well. I think it's uh like Mac and
- 17:59Speaker 1: Ooch and a lot of the Stevenson I think so
- 18:01Speaker 1: a lot of the big names will be talking to
- 18:03Speaker 1: get Myers before that too, right right after practice. Yeah yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 1: so yeah, you know you wonder like what the mood is,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you know, yeah, after that game another I just think,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I know, well, it's just crazy that they're even that
- 18:19Speaker 1: they're even like that there's a path and that they
- 18:21Speaker 1: even control it themselves, and like, I don't know, I mean,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you guys played on teams like you have that kind
- 18:26Speaker 1: of ability to be like, yeah, we sucked all year,
- 18:28Speaker 1: but hey, if we could just put two games together
- 18:30Speaker 1: like it, we might actually rewrite some of how this
- 18:33Speaker 1: season has gone. You know, I don't know, it's it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: it's hard to predict it just because I'm so resigned
- 18:38Speaker 1: to Like when the offense came out last week and
- 18:40Speaker 1: had six straight punts, it was just like, yeah, that's
- 18:42Speaker 1: what it is. I wasn't expecting them to, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 1: come out and suddenly get it, just like this week,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I'm not really expecting to suddenly get it. I just
- 18:47Speaker 1: expect against Teddy Bridgewater and what that offense is gonna
- 18:50Speaker 1: be able to put up that you'll be able to
- 18:52Speaker 1: stay in the game and later. It's always a good
- 18:54Speaker 1: indicator of at least knowing what the spin is in
- 18:58Speaker 1: the locker room, like what's the message that's going out,
- 19:01Speaker 1: And like what he was saying this week is we
- 19:04Speaker 1: see what we can do when we do it right,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know, and we just need to be consistent. We
- 19:09Speaker 1: lack consistency, but we all see when we do things right,
- 19:14Speaker 1: we can compete, we can do things, you know, And yeah, like,
- 19:18Speaker 1: are by our guys buying that? And are they motivated
- 19:21Speaker 1: by that? I just laugh because I think they've been
- 19:24Speaker 1: incredibly consistent. Well yeah, like they've been consistently you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and that's that's who they are. I don't say I
- 19:31Speaker 1: agree with Mike. I don't think they're any consistent. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: think more often than not, they're not productive. I think
- 19:36Speaker 1: Mike is right, well, on offense, they're not right. I
- 19:39Speaker 1: mean the penalties you're getting six, you're getting six plus
- 19:41Speaker 1: penalties pretty much every week. You're probably gonna have, if
- 19:44Speaker 1: not a turnover in the first three quarters, you're probably
- 19:46Speaker 1: definitely getting one in the fourth quarter. I mean, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: it's like going, we're gonna punt a lot game, like,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I mean, that's what they've done almost every game, you know,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and there when you can say, like oh, the Minnesota
- 19:56Speaker 1: game or um, the Cleveland game, like that's a sign
- 20:00Speaker 1: that your offense hasn't been good when you like cherry
- 20:04Speaker 1: pick the games that it was good, you know, maybe
- 20:08Speaker 1: the biggest indictment of all is like you said, like
- 20:11Speaker 1: the other day, they start the game with six punts.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Did anybody say, oh my god, I can't believe what
- 20:15Speaker 1: I'm watching. Right, No, that's them. No, you know, it's
- 20:20Speaker 1: more like here we go again, right, bring in zappy.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I mean the zappy chance started on the second series
- 20:25Speaker 1: of the game in the crowd, right. I mean, I
- 20:27Speaker 1: would almost just say that the game's really it just
- 20:30Speaker 1: matters if the defense makes a key play to get
- 20:33Speaker 1: a turnover at the right time. The difference between winning
- 20:35Speaker 1: and losing is generally how if the defense can can
- 20:39Speaker 1: score or set up a score. Yeah, and the unfortunate
- 20:42Speaker 1: part of the last couple of games is they have
- 20:44Speaker 1: scored and they still lost. Like that's like I agree
- 20:48Speaker 1: with Mike, I don't. It's not inconsistent. Like it's just
- 20:51Speaker 1: if they if they go out and they just all
- 20:53Speaker 1: of a sudden put up four hundred and fifty yards
- 20:55Speaker 1: and thirty four points on Sunday, that would be to
- 20:59Speaker 1: me breaking out of the norm. Yeah, like they haven't
- 21:02Speaker 1: done that, right, but still it's all right there for
- 21:06Speaker 1: the taking, which is just us. And yeah, I mean
- 21:10Speaker 1: it's I don't I'm not going to get ahead of
- 21:12Speaker 1: myself with with this game, but you know, Buffalo, it
- 21:15Speaker 1: is what I guess the question really is is what
- 21:16Speaker 1: what's Buffalo going to end up having to play for it?
- 21:19Speaker 1: And it seems like they will have something to play for.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It almost has to be a meaningful game for Buffalo,
- 21:24Speaker 1: you knows, I know, people are you know pointed to
- 21:27Speaker 1: the scenario that Buffalo could lose and then playoffs host
- 21:31Speaker 1: US in the first round of the playoffs, and that
- 21:33Speaker 1: might be what they want. But I know I don't
- 21:37Speaker 1: think Buffalo wants to be the team that lost to
- 21:40Speaker 1: allow the Patriots into the playoffs. You know, I think
- 21:43Speaker 1: they want to be the team that not says I
- 21:45Speaker 1: would I would do that if I were Buffalo, if
- 21:48Speaker 1: I wasn't playing for a buye, I would rather have
- 21:51Speaker 1: a bye and have a zero percent chance of losing
- 21:53Speaker 1: in the first week, as opposed to picking my opponent
- 21:57Speaker 1: and having a point one percent chance of losing, Like
- 22:00Speaker 1: I can lose, something can happen, and I can lose
- 22:03Speaker 1: to the team that I decided i'd rather play instead
- 22:06Speaker 1: of having a bye. There's no way they're going to
- 22:08Speaker 1: dump the game if they can get a bye. And
- 22:10Speaker 1: the only way that they will not have a chance
- 22:13Speaker 1: is if Kansas City loses to Denver, because then they'll
- 22:17Speaker 1: have it sewed up, so then they'll have to buy
- 22:20Speaker 1: sewed up, if you know, if assuming they win, right,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but Kansas City has to lose to Denver, that's the
- 22:26Speaker 1: content that like that has to happen. Is it in
- 22:28Speaker 1: Kansas City? Yeah, And they don't even have Nate Hacket anymore,
- 22:32Speaker 1: so oh that could be a plus. So I just
- 22:36Speaker 1: I think Buffalo is going to have to play the game.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna have that to fall back
- 22:40Speaker 1: on now. I could definitely see, like I'm not in
- 22:44Speaker 1: agreement with Fred, if it was just regular and there
- 22:46Speaker 1: were no buys, just like what the Patriots did that
- 22:50Speaker 1: year when they dumped the game against Miami so they
- 22:52Speaker 1: could play Jacksonville. I could definitely see them doing that.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I don't know what team they'd pick, but they would
- 22:58Speaker 1: figure out the machinations of which one, and they would
- 23:00Speaker 1: rather play absolutely. But they're not gonna say I'd rather
- 23:04Speaker 1: play the Patriots in Wildcot weekend than be off in
- 23:06Speaker 1: Wildcot weekend, didn't have a buy. They're not gonna No
- 23:09Speaker 1: team would do that, No, no, no, All right. Five
- 23:12Speaker 1: five hundred is the A ticket hotline web radio at
- 23:15Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address. Uh, Brian from
- 23:19Speaker 1: Indiana's on the line. What's up, Brian? Hey? Are we
- 23:23Speaker 1: doing good? Hey? I just had a question. Um. I
- 23:27Speaker 1: know that Bill O'Brien has been in conversation a lot
- 23:31Speaker 1: about becoming the next NOC for next year possibly, and
- 23:34Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of stuff, um, just from like
- 23:38Speaker 1: Alabama fans on Twitter and stuff like that about them
- 23:41Speaker 1: not really loving Bill O'Brien as an OC. Do we
- 23:44Speaker 1: really want to bring somebody likes Bill O'Brien just because
- 23:47Speaker 1: he might be better than Patricia and I think he's
- 23:50Speaker 1: an excellent offensive coordinator? Yes, I would. I would take
- 23:53Speaker 1: him in a heartbeat. And do we think it's a
- 23:55Speaker 1: good idea? Of Alabama fans are up in arms because
- 23:58Speaker 1: they scored forty nine points and lost rice bill O'Brien's fault. Right,
- 24:02Speaker 1: they lost fifty two to forty nine to Tennessee. Do
- 24:06Speaker 1: we really need another hothead in that locker room? Yes? Yes,
- 24:10Speaker 1: they need someone to push back. Yes, I think that's
- 24:13Speaker 1: exactly what they need. And don't we pay Bill Belichick
- 24:17Speaker 1: enough money to push back? Well, but I'm talking about
- 24:19Speaker 1: the offensive coaches. He can't be, you know, dealing with
- 24:22Speaker 1: absolutely everybody like the offensive coaches. I think it's been
- 24:26Speaker 1: a one way street. It's been pushed back from the
- 24:28Speaker 1: players to the coaches. I think they need a little
- 24:30Speaker 1: bit more the other way and say all right, yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: I get it, this is what we're doing, let's do it,
- 24:35Speaker 1: let's let's be better, let's execute, and maybe even push
- 24:38Speaker 1: back to Bill. Yeah, yeah, sure, absolutely, Yeah. Since the
- 24:42Speaker 1: bar solo right now. I mean, what experienced NFL offensive
- 24:45Speaker 1: coordinator wouldn't you take it at this point? Now if
- 24:47Speaker 1: a guy is as a heartbeat and coach to ye,
- 24:50Speaker 1: to Briant's point, if you if you have like a
- 24:52Speaker 1: young up and coming offensive mind that you're aware of, Um,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think I might rather have that than Bill O'Brien.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But I know Bill O'Brien, I know we worked here,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I know he like what he does works, So yeah,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I think that's uh, I don't know what what better
- 25:08Speaker 1: than that you're going to expect. That's what's frustrating for me, though,
- 25:10Speaker 1: is that it's it's become so insular here and and
- 25:13Speaker 1: like I just I can't we see a Bill Belichick
- 25:17Speaker 1: taking a young offensive coach that maybe didn't grow up
- 25:21Speaker 1: here but has interesting ideas and using Bill Belichick's knowledge
- 25:25Speaker 1: to kind of merge with that person's new perspective and
- 25:28Speaker 1: you know, to produce something fresh rather than well, we
- 25:31Speaker 1: had this guy here was ten years ago, and he
- 25:33Speaker 1: knows the system, So you'd rather have, you know, Like
- 25:35Speaker 1: what I'd rather have is what you said. I think
- 25:37Speaker 1: what what Bill would rather have is and that's and
- 25:40Speaker 1: that's what's frustrating is that. I just I wonder if
- 25:43Speaker 1: it would be better for Bill Belichick the coach, if
- 25:45Speaker 1: you know, if he had more of those, you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: And and I don't want to say that he's like
- 25:49Speaker 1: actively pushing those kind of perspectives away, although perhaps he is.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I just think like, if you're going to get to
- 25:56Speaker 1: a new, interesting place, it's just hard to do it
- 25:59Speaker 1: when you keep recycling the Josh McDaniels and then Bill
- 26:01Speaker 1: O'Brien and then you know, chat O'Shea could maybe you know,
- 26:04Speaker 1: it's the same kind of guys, Whereas get a whole new,
- 26:06Speaker 1: fresh perspective, somebody who sees the game totally different, and
- 26:09Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, maybe you make some magic
- 26:11Speaker 1: by having a totally new perspective. Whereas it is, if
- 26:14Speaker 1: Phil O'Brian comes here, we're probably just gonna what kind
- 26:17Speaker 1: of merged this year's offense whatever it is, with what
- 26:19Speaker 1: they used to do and come up with some kind
- 26:21Speaker 1: of maybe you're able to do what we kind of
- 26:24Speaker 1: thought they were going to do and have the Patriot
- 26:27Speaker 1: system with some Alabama elements to it. You know, who knows.
- 26:31Speaker 1: But I agree with Mike's rant. I like Mike's idea better.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But I don't think that's going to happen. I think
- 26:36Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien will be pressure. You know, like it just
- 26:38Speaker 1: feels stale and you know, you'd love to get some.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I mean, I kind of equate it to when when
- 26:43Speaker 1: Floras took over, and I mean not that it's the
- 26:46Speaker 1: same thing, but just how jarring it was to all
- 26:49Speaker 1: of a sudden see kind of a completely different philosophy
- 26:52Speaker 1: on defense in terms of aggression and sending you know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: zero blizzes. You think Matt Patricia sentity. I mean, maybe
- 26:58Speaker 1: I'm wrong, somebody can tell me maybe, but spat As
- 27:01Speaker 1: sending zero blitz It's like, I don't never remember that
- 27:03Speaker 1: being like a big part of their game plan. It
- 27:05Speaker 1: was no they rushed three and sometimes four and they
- 27:08Speaker 1: just sit back and wait. That was kind of the philosophy.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And then all of sudden, Florest gets here and it's
- 27:12Speaker 1: Jamie Collins and down to high tower coming from all
- 27:15Speaker 1: angles and you know, and that was a big part
- 27:17Speaker 1: of why they won. That last Super Bowl felt like
- 27:19Speaker 1: one of the ones where they were actively went out
- 27:21Speaker 1: and took it rather than you know, waiting to see
- 27:24Speaker 1: how it goes and then you know, relying on Brady
- 27:26Speaker 1: to pull it out of the end. Melvin's and Tennessee, Hey, Malvina,
- 27:31Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey? Hey? Um? Quick thing about really
- 27:36Speaker 1: just the coaching sample. I know you are talked a
- 27:40Speaker 1: little bit briefly yesterday about how dry I was possibly
- 27:43Speaker 1: getting ready to leave out along with all the other
- 27:48Speaker 1: changes that come from the players stuff like that. I
- 27:50Speaker 1: would help the other and everybody else associated with it
- 27:53Speaker 1: to figure out some type of way to keep do
- 27:56Speaker 1: something to keep more of these coaches around. I know
- 27:59Speaker 1: it's even when you're coaching, you do well, they know
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm going to coach, and you probably have others, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 1: goals and things you want to do. But when one
- 28:06Speaker 1: person leaves and you know, he takes staff with them,
- 28:10Speaker 1: life with Josh and stuff that it's just hard to
- 28:13Speaker 1: convey your message and keep your message going the right
- 28:16Speaker 1: way when all these changes and stuff that are going around.
- 28:20Speaker 1: So I think that's a point to it. Obviously, it's
- 28:25Speaker 1: I don't know exactly a way to really tix that
- 28:27Speaker 1: are but I wonder if feels and stuff for like,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I don't know how he's going to invest as much
- 28:34Speaker 1: as life, well, I don't want to do a certain
- 28:36Speaker 1: amount of stuff because this person might leave or I
- 28:38Speaker 1: don't know if this person's gonna be with it for
- 28:39Speaker 1: a while. And why am I going to teach and
- 28:41Speaker 1: develop and to other stuff with these people that's going
- 28:44Speaker 1: to leave me. I'll be stuck doing the same thing
- 28:46Speaker 1: with somebody else. I think we've come to it. I
- 28:49Speaker 1: hear what you say. It can't have It can't hurt
- 28:52Speaker 1: to have a lack of continuity on your coaching staff. However,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I got a feeling that maybe, with the exception of Mayo,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, those days might be behind us because a
- 29:06Speaker 1: lot of that stem from winning. You know. The other
- 29:09Speaker 1: teams wanted guys who came from a winning culture, you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and knew what it took to win. I want those
- 29:17Speaker 1: guys on my staff, or guys leaving like McDaniels and
- 29:21Speaker 1: taking guys with them. We might be we might have
- 29:25Speaker 1: turned the corner there where like now we're not the
- 29:28Speaker 1: team with that you know, high price problem that we
- 29:31Speaker 1: used to be. You know, like I don't know if
- 29:34Speaker 1: anyone's clamoring for Covington or you know, cam Accord, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I mean I would, uh, I mean Mayo clearly, I
- 29:43Speaker 1: think he might be one that. Yeah, and if he goes, like,
- 29:46Speaker 1: does he take anybody with him? I don't know, And
- 29:48Speaker 1: I'm biased for Pellegrino, but I just think he's done
- 29:50Speaker 1: a really good job coaching up defensive backs consistently, you know,
- 29:54Speaker 1: since he's been here. That was one of my biggest concerns.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And but every team has good coaches. Yeah, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 1: but I think you're right, And I mean, nobody's coming
- 30:02Speaker 1: to say we gotta go get we gotta go poach
- 30:03Speaker 1: mapat Shirt Joe Judge right now or cam Acorps really
- 30:06Speaker 1: and those are those are the big, you know big
- 30:08Speaker 1: I think you could lose Kaylee too. On the other side,
- 30:10Speaker 1: but the I mean, it's not necessarily good that our
- 30:14Speaker 1: coaches aren't well, yeah, that's the that's the other that's
- 30:16Speaker 1: the flip side of it is that. And I think
- 30:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of teams that especially like the coordinators,
- 30:22Speaker 1: the hot shot coordinators. You know, other staffs lose their
- 30:27Speaker 1: coordinators every year and then they figure out what they're
- 30:29Speaker 1: gonna do. Like Buffalo just lost Brian Dable and they
- 30:32Speaker 1: had a guy ready in Ken Dorsey and it's kind
- 30:35Speaker 1: of the same offense. I mean, look at Kyle Shanahan,
- 30:37Speaker 1: he's been I mean he's been. Shanahan has done it
- 30:39Speaker 1: more than anybody, right, you know, with all those different
- 30:43Speaker 1: branches off of that trip and McDaniel and I mean,
- 30:46Speaker 1: everybody's been getting pulled from him and he, you know,
- 30:48Speaker 1: continues to do it. Yeah. One last thing I'm gonna
- 30:52Speaker 1: say about it, just weird for Bill because he always
- 30:54Speaker 1: had a plan ready, even with the players when the
- 30:56Speaker 1: otherman was getting ready. Clearly we're gone his last leg. Yeah,
- 30:59Speaker 1: I had people ready when the passing backs are getting old. Yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 1: you always had somebody ready. So there's a bigger thing
- 31:05Speaker 1: of getting somebody ready. What happened to that? Well with
- 31:09Speaker 1: the coaching, the losses were so fast it was tough. Yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I do think it's been a little bit out of
- 31:17Speaker 1: the ordinary, like with Flores in McDaniels both taking chunks
- 31:22Speaker 1: with them, right, and what that was nineteen and then
- 31:25Speaker 1: twenty one, So that's twice in three years, right, because
- 31:29Speaker 1: Flores left after the eighteen season, right, So in nineteen
- 31:32Speaker 1: and then after the twenty one season you had top
- 31:37Speaker 1: flight assistants leaving and taking significant pieces of the rest
- 31:40Speaker 1: of the staff. We bring this up all the time.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Mike and I talk about this all the time, Like
- 31:43Speaker 1: a guy like jet Fish very well could have been
- 31:46Speaker 1: one of those guys that they said, well, we know
- 31:48Speaker 1: we're gonna lose Josh at some point, and then they
- 31:50Speaker 1: ended up losing jet Fish when he got a head
- 31:52Speaker 1: coaching job at Arizona. So sometimes you do have a
- 31:56Speaker 1: plan and it just doesn't work. It doesn't think you
- 31:59Speaker 1: got you gotta mentioned the retirements too as part of it.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I mean, those are but that's something you should that's
- 32:03Speaker 1: something you should have been prepared. You knew Iman was
- 32:06Speaker 1: going to be going, Dante was going to be going,
- 32:08Speaker 1: and don't they already retired once. Yeah, I mean they
- 32:10Speaker 1: have a small staff as it is, and I mean
- 32:12Speaker 1: I just I have trouble being like, well, you don't
- 32:14Speaker 1: want to promote guys, you don't want to really really
- 32:17Speaker 1: really am I wrong? Nor they just don't give guys titles.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And they have the same amount of the number of
- 32:23Speaker 1: and you're allowed to have as many as you want,
- 32:26Speaker 1: So it's not an excuse if you have a small statuff.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I know, but they choose to have a small staff.
- 32:30Speaker 1: But I would say they were net negative last year
- 32:32Speaker 1: in terms of coaches that they lost in coaches that
- 32:35Speaker 1: they brought in. It didn't really like they didn't really
- 32:36Speaker 1: hire anybody. They lost a lot. I mean, they didn't
- 32:39Speaker 1: hire a wide receivers coach, they didn't hire an offensive
- 32:41Speaker 1: coordinator they did, you know, So I just you're not
- 32:44Speaker 1: really prepared. I don't think that you can build a
- 32:46Speaker 1: team by saying, well, I don't want anybody to leave,
- 32:48Speaker 1: like you want to develop good coaches who in turn
- 32:51Speaker 1: coach a team well and then you win, and then
- 32:53Speaker 1: that's what happens. I mean, it's just part of it.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You can't say, well, we want to just be a
- 32:57Speaker 1: middling team, so no one takes our coaches like so,
- 32:59Speaker 1: I I just think it comes with you've got to
- 33:01Speaker 1: restock the cupboards. And I don't think that they restock
- 33:03Speaker 1: the cupboards last year with young coaching. I think they
- 33:05Speaker 1: have to do it this year. Yeah, thanks Melvin. You know,
- 33:08Speaker 1: and you got to ask the question and we don't
- 33:10Speaker 1: know the answer, like why aren't you know, coaches so
- 33:15Speaker 1: willing to go with Josh, to go with Flores? You know,
- 33:19Speaker 1: is it a money thing? You know, it's probably a
- 33:22Speaker 1: variety of it. You know, it's not necessarily upward mobility.
- 33:25Speaker 1: It's a lateral move in some cases, but I'm going
- 33:27Speaker 1: to be making more money. Well, I think it's it's
- 33:30Speaker 1: it's upward mobility too. I think if you're Micke Lombardi
- 33:33Speaker 1: and Bill and Bill Belichick told you're gonna be the
- 33:35Speaker 1: offensive coordinator and now you have a decision to make,
- 33:37Speaker 1: yeah right, my guess is you didn't ask him that, right, Yeah? Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 1: And I think that that feeds into it was kind
- 33:42Speaker 1: of the start of it with with not having a
- 33:44Speaker 1: defensive coordinator and now not having an offensive coordinator. So
- 33:47Speaker 1: the staff in general has just become kind of this
- 33:49Speaker 1: nebulous team, we're going to do it together kind of thing.
- 33:52Speaker 1: And I mean, I totally get why guys would be
- 33:54Speaker 1: like you, I want I want to go somewhere where
- 33:56Speaker 1: I know where I stand, I know where I'm headed,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and you know, for better or worse, at least, I'm not,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, part of this like group think effort that
- 34:02Speaker 1: you know, I get all the blame and none of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the credit. Really, And just to be clear, I'm not
- 34:06Speaker 1: suggesting that I would have given the offensive coordinator job
- 34:09Speaker 1: to Micke Lombardi. I'm just using as an example. Sometimes
- 34:12Speaker 1: guys leave, you know, like, was there any clamor of
- 34:15Speaker 1: like chat O'shay becoming an offensive coordinator when he was
- 34:17Speaker 1: with the Patriots. Not really, No, then he left and
- 34:20Speaker 1: he became an offensive coordinate, so it is upward for that. Yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 1: As as in addition to what again, another thing we
- 34:27Speaker 1: don't know for sure money, Yeah, we don't know that
- 34:29Speaker 1: for certain. But in the past, you know, Brad Seeley
- 34:33Speaker 1: for example, he wanted more money and they wouldn't give
- 34:35Speaker 1: it to him, and he left. Yeah, you know, uh
- 34:38Speaker 1: but interesting out of shape like he got he got
- 34:41Speaker 1: rid of him right after one year, and then they
- 34:43Speaker 1: brought back like chan Gailey right like with like that.
- 34:45Speaker 1: They brought chan Gailey in the year of Fitzpatrick, so
- 34:50Speaker 1: that was nineteen. They brought him in specifically for for
- 34:53Speaker 1: for that with oh shit, and then they changed. Part
- 34:58Speaker 1: of that is Floor is like that, like yeah, I
- 35:00Speaker 1: know Flores is like you know, the like they should
- 35:03Speaker 1: bring in Flores because he'll change everything. He'll fix out.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I don't think Flores had a tremendously successful tenure as
- 35:08Speaker 1: the Dolphins head coach. I think he did a good job.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I think they played hard. I think he couldn't figure
- 35:14Speaker 1: out offense and couldn't figure out how he wanted to
- 35:16Speaker 1: run the offense, and that hurt them. And certainly the
- 35:20Speaker 1: way he treated Tour hurt the offense, like not not
- 35:24Speaker 1: embracing him in any way, shape or form. Yeah. Um so, yeah,
- 35:28Speaker 1: I think that Flores is a good football coach. But
- 35:30Speaker 1: I just don't think that, you know, you hire him
- 35:33Speaker 1: and that solves all your problems. We're especially biased because
- 35:36Speaker 1: and I and I really like but I really like Flores, Yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 1: I mean I do. I just don't think that he
- 35:42Speaker 1: was a great head coach. Well he did a good
- 35:44Speaker 1: job was going on there with the owner in meddling,
- 35:47Speaker 1: and well the owner wasn't telling him to change offensive
- 35:50Speaker 1: coordinators every five minutes. No, but you just you just
- 35:52Speaker 1: wonder like if he didn't want Tour, you know, like
- 35:55Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, it just seems like there
- 35:58Speaker 1: was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes
- 36:00Speaker 1: in Miami. Yeah, And that's why I think, like a
- 36:03Speaker 1: lot of other people in Miami will probably have the
- 36:05Speaker 1: better perspective, and I think they echo a lot of
- 36:07Speaker 1: what Paul saying that it was It was not as
- 36:10Speaker 1: it was more dysfunctional than it even might have appeared.
- 36:13Speaker 1: But the you know, why was it you know him
- 36:16Speaker 1: or was it comvocation issues? I mean I think some
- 36:18Speaker 1: people found him, you know, that didn't like how we
- 36:20Speaker 1: communicated me. That was something part of it. Yeah, William
- 36:24Speaker 1: and Fellam, what's up? William? What's going on? Fred? Paul
- 36:28Speaker 1: and Mike? Hey, Hey, how are you'all doing? Um? Just
- 36:33Speaker 1: two things and I'm actuely Paul. First, Um the T
- 36:37Speaker 1: Higgins thing that you were saying with T Higgins? And
- 36:40Speaker 1: um was the other guy, Um, Jerry Judy. I loved that.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I loved that. Ye throw DeAndre Hopkins in there too.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Everybody's everybody's you know, assuming he's going to be available too,
- 36:53Speaker 1: So throw throw them all in the mix. I'll take
- 36:55Speaker 1: I'll take any of those guys. Um, you know, Hopkins
- 36:58Speaker 1: is the best of those three, probably, but I would
- 37:01Speaker 1: rather have Higgins because of age right now. I think
- 37:03Speaker 1: he's a guy that you could really build around size too,
- 37:07Speaker 1: as we saw last week. I mean it's he's a
- 37:10Speaker 1: really good player, and I think that he has done
- 37:12Speaker 1: enough when Chase has been out of the lineup for
- 37:14Speaker 1: me to think he can produce even when the coverage
- 37:17Speaker 1: just rolled to him. Yeah. You know, some of those
- 37:19Speaker 1: guys are great second banders, and then you you pay
- 37:21Speaker 1: him like a number one guy and they come in
- 37:23Speaker 1: and they're like, oh, you never faced the double team before.
- 37:25Speaker 1: But I think he has. I think he's yeah, I
- 37:28Speaker 1: think he's been the man. Okay, Um, my last question
- 37:33Speaker 1: is this, and I just need you all three to
- 37:36Speaker 1: be honest with me your faith. Do you do you
- 37:39Speaker 1: want change? Paul, Mike and Freeth. I mean I'm being
- 37:43Speaker 1: I want you to just be honest with me, like
- 37:44Speaker 1: we were just sitting around the table, of course, and
- 37:46Speaker 1: we just haven't you know, man a man? Do you
- 37:48Speaker 1: want change for this team? Yeah? And do you think
- 37:50Speaker 1: you're gonna get that change from the greatest coach of
- 37:53Speaker 1: all time? I mean, I want you to be honest.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I have to think so, I have to think so.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I mean, this is below the pail of acceptability, of
- 37:59Speaker 1: acceptability for anybody I would but absolutely, I mean, I
- 38:02Speaker 1: I don't want to watch another year of this offense
- 38:05Speaker 1: like this. I mean, it's it's terrible NFL offense, not
- 38:10Speaker 1: normal offense. And that's Fred. Yeah, and you've been saying
- 38:13Speaker 1: that for about eight weeks right now. I think I
- 38:16Speaker 1: think I keep going back to like builds a smart guy.
- 38:21Speaker 1: He's not. He knows more. He forgot more about football
- 38:24Speaker 1: than we'll ever know. And if we if everybody sees it,
- 38:27Speaker 1: I mean everybody, even me, who I'm a Max supporter.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I was in on having two former head coaches come
- 38:36Speaker 1: in and be you know, sub coaches, and that that
- 38:40Speaker 1: could work. So I'm on record saying that, and now
- 38:43Speaker 1: I'm saying I see it. I see it. I can't
- 38:46Speaker 1: believe he doesn't. I can't believe he doesn't. You know,
- 38:49Speaker 1: the owner does. And if he wants, if he wants
- 38:53Speaker 1: to stay here, he's gonna have to make changes. He's
- 38:57Speaker 1: going to have to. You know, I'll keep my I'll
- 39:00Speaker 1: keep my fingers cross, right, Yeah, okay, all right, Thanks William,
- 39:04Speaker 1: Thanks William, keep the faith. Patty's an agawam. What's up?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Patty up? Guys? Hey Freddy, I was with you too
- 39:12Speaker 1: prior to the season. I was like, I was skeptical,
- 39:14Speaker 1: but I was like, let's take a wait and see approach,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and you know, maybe they maybe they figure it out
- 39:20Speaker 1: and they get stronger as the season goes. But each
- 39:23Speaker 1: subsequent week week it looks like Mo Howard is coordinating
- 39:26Speaker 1: in this offense, you know, and so yeah, yeah, yeah, um.
- 39:31Speaker 1: But I did have a question relative to the coaching side,
- 39:34Speaker 1: with the struggles that we've seen on special teams the
- 39:37Speaker 1: last few years, if they do make like sweeping coaching changes,
- 39:41Speaker 1: do you think that there's a chance that a chord
- 39:43Speaker 1: is gone and they put Joe Judge back in the
- 39:45Speaker 1: spense as a special teams coordinator. I do. I think
- 39:48Speaker 1: there's a chance of that. Yeah, but I could see
- 39:50Speaker 1: a chord going somewhere, like within the coach He'll stay
- 39:53Speaker 1: here and go to another position. Yeah, yeah, I see Joe.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I could see that, and I'll throw another white receiver
- 40:02Speaker 1: name that I would. I mean, I don't think it's
- 40:03Speaker 1: going to happen. I think the chances of it happening
- 40:05Speaker 1: is in contesmo. But I would love to see them
- 40:09Speaker 1: just mortgage mortgage the future for DeVante Smith. Get back
- 40:14Speaker 1: that to me. That's Max thinky. I mean, if there
- 40:17Speaker 1: ever was, if there ever would be a thinky for him,
- 40:19Speaker 1: I mean, that would be the guy, you know, kidnap
- 40:23Speaker 1: them from Philadelphia. Yeah, that's all I got, guys, all right,
- 40:31Speaker 1: Thanks Patty, And I know, like I know, Patty prefaced
- 40:34Speaker 1: that by saying it's infante but like arguably the best
- 40:38Speaker 1: team in football, which is gonna like deal off their
- 40:41Speaker 1: most significant pieces while they're on the rookie contracts, right, Like,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I think it's less than infantessible. I just I, you know,
- 40:49Speaker 1: I was thinking too, is like I really wonder what
- 40:52Speaker 1: it's going to be like this offseason because we're talking
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think, you know aptly about receivers to target those things.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I just I just wonder how much of a check
- 40:59Speaker 1: book and freedom Belichick will have this year depending on
- 41:04Speaker 1: how the conversation with Craft goes, because you know, I
- 41:06Speaker 1: think we're all a little like, well, what if he's like, no,
- 41:08Speaker 1: it'll be fine, you know, and that this bill go
- 41:11Speaker 1: you know, does Roberts say, well, then we'll see how
- 41:14Speaker 1: much money you're actually gonna let you play with? Like
- 41:16Speaker 1: you know, what, do you know how much money are
- 41:17Speaker 1: you gonna need to play with to get this team
- 41:19Speaker 1: back to where it needs to be? Oh, you mean
- 41:20Speaker 1: free agents, you know, like coaching staff, because I think
- 41:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, like they opened up the purse strings.
- 41:25Speaker 1: It was I gotta got my money on a team
- 41:27Speaker 1: that I don't write. Are you gonna spend go spend
- 41:30Speaker 1: this much money again to get what like maybe like
- 41:33Speaker 1: maybe you get back to the seventh Sea. I mean,
- 41:35Speaker 1: if they don't make the play, like like that's what
- 41:37Speaker 1: you got to spend millions of dollars to get back
- 41:39Speaker 1: to Robert Kraft? What would Bill have to show you
- 41:43Speaker 1: to convince you that they should stick with the coaching
- 41:47Speaker 1: staff as it is? Geez, I don't I don't know
- 41:51Speaker 1: if I could. I don't know. I don't know if
- 41:53Speaker 1: I have any answer for that. Yeah, And I mean
- 41:55Speaker 1: it's like I guess, I guess proof that it was
- 41:59Speaker 1: the players not buy buying in and not the coaching right,
- 42:01Speaker 1: I would need that, I guess. But then it's you,
- 42:05Speaker 1: we gotta go get new players. But why didn't you
- 42:07Speaker 1: coach him up? You know, why didn't you get him
- 42:09Speaker 1: to buy in? Isn't that part of your job is
- 42:11Speaker 1: to get these players to buy in? Isn't that part
- 42:14Speaker 1: of it? You know? I mean, I agree, let's talk,
- 42:19Speaker 1: let's do this, Let's let's let's know, let's like you know,
- 42:23Speaker 1: I'm watching like you know, good Morning Football, and like
- 42:26Speaker 1: they're always doing these funny kind of exercises like this,
- 42:28Speaker 1: So let's let's Chris plays right, old friend, Let's play
- 42:32Speaker 1: like role you know, like role role play here? You
- 42:35Speaker 1: know this is Bill when this is like so if
- 42:37Speaker 1: your Bill can can you like you asked a question like,
- 42:40Speaker 1: what could Bill do to show Robert that changes don't
- 42:43Speaker 1: need to be made? Could Bill go in and say, hey, listen,
- 42:46Speaker 1: Max's gonna be fine. Max's season was completely derailed in
- 42:51Speaker 1: week three when he gets that high ankle sprain. He
- 42:53Speaker 1: was never the same after that. We rushed him back.
- 42:56Speaker 1: In retrospect, we probably should have sat him another couple
- 42:58Speaker 1: of weeks. He wanted to rush, he wanted to rush back.
- 43:00Speaker 1: We rushed him back. That was a misstep on our part.
- 43:04Speaker 1: When he came back, he had the pressure from what
- 43:07Speaker 1: Zappi was doing. It's snowballed. That led to a lot
- 43:11Speaker 1: of the conflict between the coaches because the coaches felt, again,
- 43:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to role play. I don't think beautiful, I
- 43:18Speaker 1: don't think I don't think this is true. Okay, but
- 43:21Speaker 1: I'm saying, can can he convince Robert that stay the course? Yeah?
- 43:28Speaker 1: It's working. It got derailed, but it's not irreparably damaged.
- 43:32Speaker 1: The bigger issue was external factors. We're gonna keep Mac healthy.
- 43:37Speaker 1: We're gonna get them completely in year two of the
- 43:39Speaker 1: Matt Patricia offense and all through the off season. We're
- 43:43Speaker 1: gonna have them sit down. They're gonna be fine. They're
- 43:45Speaker 1: gonna be They're gonna be fine working with each other. Now,
- 43:48Speaker 1: if I'm Robert, I'm very skeptical. I'm not gonna lie.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure I'm buying it. But can Bill? Is
- 43:54Speaker 1: there a percentage that Bill could go to Robert with
- 43:58Speaker 1: something along those said? It comes it comes down to
- 44:02Speaker 1: what you said, Paul. He's gonna lay out the evidence
- 44:05Speaker 1: that it's the players that Trent Brown played. Well, yeah,
- 44:11Speaker 1: I'm not even talking about all that, Like absolutely, you
- 44:14Speaker 1: add all that in offensive line was a mess. Isaiah
- 44:17Speaker 1: Wind bailed on the team. You know, Cole Strange needs
- 44:20Speaker 1: another year. Oh he'll be fine. He just needs to
- 44:22Speaker 1: get a little ball gun ye right. You know. Kendrick Bourne,
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you all the reasons why he wasn't playing,
- 44:30Speaker 1: and we got him back on track down the stretch, right. Um,
- 44:34Speaker 1: you know Parker gets hurt. Uh, you know he's gonna
- 44:37Speaker 1: you know all those things. Yeah, you know, and oh,
- 44:40Speaker 1: by the way, I need forty million dollars and we
- 44:42Speaker 1: got how many draft picks? We got like ten draft
- 44:44Speaker 1: picks or something like that. Like you know, it's like Matt, Matt,
- 44:47Speaker 1: Matty P's a smart guy. He's gonna get better. He
- 44:50Speaker 1: never did it before. You know, you can see how
- 44:52Speaker 1: much more comfortable he was putting the game planes together
- 44:55Speaker 1: as the season, like you, I could see that happening
- 44:59Speaker 1: before anybody yelled at me, Okay, we're just playing. Yes,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I'm not like, I'm not telling you that I believe much,
- 45:08Speaker 1: if any of this. But Fred, you asked a question,
- 45:13Speaker 1: what could Bill do to convince Robert that changes don't
- 45:17Speaker 1: need to be made? Right? I think I think it
- 45:19Speaker 1: would be something like that. It would be sound pretty good.
- 45:22Speaker 1: You did a pretty good job. Thank you, Thank you. Hey. Um,
- 45:27Speaker 1: Let's say Bradley writes in with the Patriots he has
- 45:30Speaker 1: that in quote system. It seems we're always focused on
- 45:33Speaker 1: picking a player who can do it all, special teams,
- 45:35Speaker 1: multiple positions, really anything they can is the focus on
- 45:39Speaker 1: do it all type of people, affecting how Bill thinks
- 45:41Speaker 1: about the coaches now as well, thinking a coach can
- 45:44Speaker 1: be a jack of all trades, just like the players
- 45:47Speaker 1: and as he spreading the coaching out too thin. So
- 45:49Speaker 1: we're moderately good at a lot of things, but not
- 45:51Speaker 1: really great in anything. And PS one O C would
- 45:55Speaker 1: not What I would not like to have right now
- 45:57Speaker 1: is Nate Hackett. The guys thinks. I love how everyone's
- 46:00Speaker 1: call him that. That was good. Yes, yeah, I think
- 46:04Speaker 1: Nathaniel Hackett was a good coordinator by the way for
- 46:08Speaker 1: Bay and Bay right he was. How hard is it
- 46:10Speaker 1: to be a good coordinator with Aaron Rodgers? I don't know.
- 46:12Speaker 1: They don't have one. Now, they don't have a good
- 46:15Speaker 1: coordinator now, well, they can't score. I think now that
- 46:18Speaker 1: these young guys is just they're doing better, aren't they doing?
- 46:21Speaker 1: They're winning games, but they're not scoring. Yeah, they're not
- 46:23Speaker 1: scoring like they old Packers were. No. Yeah, they're still inconsistent.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Watson and Dobson. Yeah, and then Watson got hurt the
- 46:29Speaker 1: other day too. Yeah, he's coming on. Uh, Craig is
- 46:35Speaker 1: in Charlotte. What's up, Craig? Hey, how's it going, guys?
- 46:39Speaker 1: Good doing today? Pretty good? Um? Hey, I like where
- 46:42Speaker 1: you're you're at before. I guess there's been a lot
- 46:44Speaker 1: of um, you know, a lot of scrutiny on Bill
- 46:47Speaker 1: rightfully so past a couple of weeks ago. I just
- 46:50Speaker 1: wanted to take now to to say, like I'm in
- 46:53Speaker 1: the opinion he should be able to write his own
- 46:56Speaker 1: check out of Foxborough. I will suffer through seasons of
- 47:00Speaker 1: misery for everything that he's given to the organization, just
- 47:04Speaker 1: like I would have suffered through, you know, five nood
- 47:06Speaker 1: alarm seasons of brady for everything he gave to the
- 47:09Speaker 1: season if they went that direction. Having you know, I'm
- 47:13Speaker 1: a manager of people too, and I've lost an awful
- 47:15Speaker 1: lot of folks over the past few years, so difficult
- 47:18Speaker 1: to replace talent and keep that pipeline going. I guess
- 47:22Speaker 1: I don't know. My question for you is really how often,
- 47:27Speaker 1: maybe inside baseball, how often do you think Belichick and
- 47:30Speaker 1: Craft are talking about these things throughout the season? Because
- 47:33Speaker 1: we talked about this, like at the end of the year,
- 47:34Speaker 1: there's going to be this kind of come to the
- 47:36Speaker 1: table meeting with them, and I got to feel like
- 47:39Speaker 1: they're already in the plans, they already kind of know.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Why isn't this an ongoing convo? Yeah, Yeah, I don't
- 47:45Speaker 1: know how often they It seems to me that it's
- 47:48Speaker 1: not like every week they have a sit down and
- 47:52Speaker 1: and all that. I don't know, but it doesn't seem
- 47:55Speaker 1: like it's a constant conversation. I agree that season check in.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I think I think there might be a time or two,
- 48:03Speaker 1: but I don't think they Robert's grilling him with specifically,
- 48:07Speaker 1: what are you planning on do you know it's week
- 48:08Speaker 1: week eleven? What are you planning on doing about this
- 48:10Speaker 1: much the script for the first series? Right? You know?
- 48:12Speaker 1: I don't I don't think. I mean, I could be wrong,
- 48:14Speaker 1: but I don't think that that's the case. I think
- 48:16Speaker 1: it's like you said, Freddie, I think it's after the
- 48:18Speaker 1: season they sit down and I think then I think
- 48:20Speaker 1: Robert wants, yeah, some answer, some some analysis, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 1: like the more you need, the more you meddle as
- 48:26Speaker 1: an owner, the less you can say, Oh, I have
- 48:29Speaker 1: to hold him accountable, Like if you're if you're a
- 48:32Speaker 1: big influence on the day to day operation, then how
- 48:35Speaker 1: much you blame can you give your head coach? Yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 1: you have to let him do his thing, especially when
- 48:40Speaker 1: he's also the GM. You have to let him do it,
- 48:43Speaker 1: you know, but hold him accountable, right, especially at this point,
- 48:47Speaker 1: maybe like a rookie head coach you might have to
- 48:49Speaker 1: a little bit not Bill. Yeah, I don't think Robert's
- 48:53Speaker 1: in there meddling, But I do feel like the way
- 48:56Speaker 1: that it seems like Bill runs his side of the organization,
- 48:59Speaker 1: that that there would be an ongoing conversation with Craft,
- 49:02Speaker 1: especially when things aren't going well. I'll bet you, like
- 49:05Speaker 1: during the Max thing when he got hurt, like Bill, like,
- 49:08Speaker 1: I'll bet you the owner was probably, hey, how's he doing.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Do you think he's got a chance to play things
- 49:13Speaker 1: like that? I'll bet you he finds out about Yeah. Yeah,
- 49:18Speaker 1: But like Paul, Paul, he started another poll, I'll be
- 49:22Speaker 1: four Belichick saying this year, I could see that pole
- 49:26Speaker 1: moving if he's did that. All right, thanks, Yeah, that'll
- 49:31Speaker 1: be an offseason thing. You know, in a couple of weeks,
- 49:33Speaker 1: we'll get that going. El from Wisconsin wants to talk
- 49:36Speaker 1: about the team vibe and he wants to call me out.
- 49:39Speaker 1: So I want to read this season Evan got me thinking,
- 49:43Speaker 1: he says, Evan got me thinking of after saying that
- 49:45Speaker 1: Mac is unlikable, and I think that's a problem surrounding
- 49:48Speaker 1: this whole team. Bill isn't the most likable guy, But
- 49:51Speaker 1: it's fine when you're winning. Grading when you're losing. Maddy
- 49:53Speaker 1: p has the air of someone who thinks they're the
- 49:55Speaker 1: smartest guy in the room. Just ask him, and that's
- 49:58Speaker 1: off putting. Mac is at worst a dirty player and
- 50:02Speaker 1: at best a whiney cry baby, and not good enough
- 50:04Speaker 1: for his antics to be anywhere near justified. Maybe I'm
- 50:07Speaker 1: reading way too much into things, but I really feel
- 50:10Speaker 1: like there's a fisher where coaches are blaming players and
- 50:13Speaker 1: players are blaming coaches. I think Bill has lost the
- 50:16Speaker 1: locker room at this point. Who's to say he can
- 50:18Speaker 1: get it back. I think it's probably time to move on.
- 50:21Speaker 1: What has Bill done in the past, say, two years,
- 50:23Speaker 1: to make this a better team. I also have to
- 50:26Speaker 1: call Fred out. He made a snide remark about not
- 50:29Speaker 1: wanting Hackett because he did an awful job in Denver.
- 50:32Speaker 1: What happened to bring in a head coach because it's
- 50:35Speaker 1: valuable experience. No matter what, I don't think he was
- 50:37Speaker 1: any worse than Judge in New York or Patricia in Detroit.
- 50:41Speaker 1: I just well the reason I said, I look at
- 50:43Speaker 1: their offense and what happened with Russell Wilson, and I'm like,
- 50:48Speaker 1: what Russell Wilson was on the ganelon Daniel Jones is
- 50:52Speaker 1: as good as Russell Wilson used to be. They're awful.
- 50:55Speaker 1: They both looked the same, I know now they do
- 50:58Speaker 1: now they do. No, no, no, Now, Daniel Jones is
- 51:02Speaker 1: vastly superior now that Brian Dable was coaching him. Okay,
- 51:05Speaker 1: But I'm just that's that's a good point. That's a
- 51:07Speaker 1: point in my favor. I mean they were both poorly coach.
- 51:11Speaker 1: That right, that Hackett couldn't get anything out of Russell Wilson. Correct,
- 51:15Speaker 1: That's why I don't Joe Judge couldn't get anything out
- 51:17Speaker 1: of a guy who's right now in the playoffs. Yeah,
- 51:20Speaker 1: but you wanted him because again the email is right.
- 51:23Speaker 1: He know he was a Patriot, so you wanted to right.
- 51:25Speaker 1: He knows the system right, and a lot of good
- 51:28Speaker 1: that knowledge of a system. That's why I said about
- 51:30Speaker 1: Hackett about no, I don't want Nathaniel Hackett. I mean,
- 51:33Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make a case. I'm not trying
- 51:35Speaker 1: to make a case for him, Nate Hacketting. I also
- 51:37Speaker 1: didn't want Joe Judge. You know, the fact that he
- 51:40Speaker 1: was a failed head coach. That's not a point in
- 51:42Speaker 1: his favor. It was a point in yours and the
- 51:44Speaker 1: guys just pointing out you're in concerned. I do think
- 51:46Speaker 1: there's something to be said about that experience in the NFL.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I do if as long as he was a Patriot,
- 51:52Speaker 1: no any any any, but you don't want other films specifically,
- 51:56Speaker 1: we're asking him to be an oc here where his
- 51:59Speaker 1: offense stuff right, and you're asking this got to be
- 52:03Speaker 1: a quarterbacks coaching his quarterback stunk like it's the same thing.
- 52:07Speaker 1: The guy's point is that is vallet screw you. You
- 52:12Speaker 1: yelled at me yesterday. So sorry, it's fine, fine, uh
- 52:17Speaker 1: jacket and aba. If the Patriots had played as well
- 52:20Speaker 1: in the first half as they did in the second half,
- 52:23Speaker 1: they would have beaten the Bengals. Why didn't the Patriots
- 52:25Speaker 1: play as well in the first half as they did
- 52:27Speaker 1: in the second half? They made a few throws. People
- 52:34Speaker 1: really ask these questions. They just read it like, but
- 52:38Speaker 1: it's not like with meant with any like no tongue
- 52:42Speaker 1: in chiefs, smiley face or anything like that. So like
- 52:45Speaker 1: you can't just answer if the Bengals had played like
- 52:47Speaker 1: they did in the second first half, in the second half,
- 52:49Speaker 1: they would have won. You know, forty four to nothing. Yeah, okay,
- 52:53Speaker 1: Joe Burrow still got ac Player of the Week, did
- 52:57Speaker 1: he again? It's it's a remarkable thing. And I'm not
- 53:01Speaker 1: a Lias, so I can't, like, I don't have a
- 53:04Speaker 1: website in a like a like a search engine database
- 53:07Speaker 1: that I can plug in all these factors. But I'm
- 53:09Speaker 1: going to venture to guess that teams that turn the
- 53:11Speaker 1: ball over three times, including one for a touchdown, miss
- 53:14Speaker 1: a field goal, two extra points, allow a forty eight
- 53:17Speaker 1: yard hail mary on third and twenty nine, or like
- 53:19Speaker 1: windless winless in the history of the NFL. They still
- 53:23Speaker 1: won doing all those things. That's how much better they
- 53:26Speaker 1: were than you. Christian the Cuban from Charlotte, North Carolina.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Two things. First, there have been reports that Bill O'Brien
- 53:34Speaker 1: is a done deal coming to the Patriots next season.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Who said that I did not see done deal. I
- 53:40Speaker 1: think Tom Corrn, I don't. I didn't see done deal
- 53:43Speaker 1: Tom Currn on EI yesterday I read some quotes on
- 53:47Speaker 1: the Twitter machine that he had said he had talked
- 53:50Speaker 1: to somebody and someone said he'd be very surprised if
- 53:52Speaker 1: it didn't. Okay. Then there have also been reports that
- 53:55Speaker 1: Zach Wilson in New Jersey Jets will part ways next season.
- 53:59Speaker 1: What do you think if Ay one for one, swap
- 54:01Speaker 1: Mac for Wilson and we have a new OC with Bill.
- 54:04Speaker 1: In my defense, I would rather have Mac and see
- 54:07Speaker 1: him with weapons in a realc But just a topic
- 54:10Speaker 1: to discuss. Second, I think if Belichick has another stinker
- 54:14Speaker 1: of a season and O'Brien is the OC and not
- 54:17Speaker 1: coaching somewhere else, I think we replaced Bill with Bill.
- 54:21Speaker 1: If they have a stinker of a season, why do
- 54:23Speaker 1: you want O'Brien right, because he'd be part of this? Yeah, yeah,
- 54:28Speaker 1: I mean there's so many I think there are a
- 54:32Speaker 1: lot of different factors. What do you think of the
- 54:33Speaker 1: Zach Wilson thing? Not necessarily for the pages, that's kind
- 54:36Speaker 1: of gotten a little bit of traction this week. It
- 54:38Speaker 1: looks like he's played his last game for the Jets.
- 54:42Speaker 1: It's tough, it's a tough He'll get another chance, He'll
- 54:44Speaker 1: get another chance. I think it's just tough to try
- 54:46Speaker 1: to say he's a backup quarterback because he's so sporadic
- 54:49Speaker 1: and will kill you. You know, it's like much rather
- 54:51Speaker 1: like Teddy Bridgewater is what he is. But I don't
- 54:54Speaker 1: feel like he's going to all of a sudden and
- 54:55Speaker 1: try to like just make the dumbest throw ever and
- 54:57Speaker 1: cost you the game. Like so maybe some team thinks
- 55:00Speaker 1: they can fix him, but I think he was always
- 55:02Speaker 1: kind of a boomer bus kind of as he was
- 55:04Speaker 1: as a team was looking at him, how do you
- 55:06Speaker 1: get a accurate, you know, read on his mental awareness
- 55:13Speaker 1: of the game and football IQ and you know about
- 55:15Speaker 1: because yes, he can throw the ball, yeah he can
- 55:18Speaker 1: run around, but like how do you get enough information
- 55:22Speaker 1: from the a mental part of it to make a judgment? Yeah,
- 55:26Speaker 1: we'll bring him in, Like that's so high. And I
- 55:28Speaker 1: made the comment earlier in the week, Um, you know,
- 55:32Speaker 1: he's the second overall pick, so he's going to get
- 55:34Speaker 1: another shot. But like, you know, Josh Rosen was the
- 55:36Speaker 1: tenth pick I think or something like that, and he
- 55:39Speaker 1: got to play as a rookie. And there were a
- 55:42Speaker 1: lot of questions about Josh Rosen coming in that were
- 55:45Speaker 1: similar to the ones about Zach Wilson. Why isn't he
- 55:48Speaker 1: a captain? Do his teammates really like him? Does he
- 55:50Speaker 1: command the room? Does he you know, get respect? His
- 55:54Speaker 1: neck is too long? Who were talking about Josh Rosen
- 55:58Speaker 1: and a big Adam's apple can't have that. I couldn't
- 56:01Speaker 1: if Josh Rosen was in this room, I wouldn't be able.
- 56:04Speaker 1: I couldn't tell you what I did. I like, why
- 56:08Speaker 1: why didn't we start talking about Peyton Manning naff Um?
- 56:12Speaker 1: But I you know when you looked at Josh Rosen
- 56:14Speaker 1: and he really never got another shot. He played some
- 56:17Speaker 1: games for Miami that first year that Flores was there,
- 56:21Speaker 1: and he's been on like sixteen other like practice squads. Right,
- 56:24Speaker 1: No one's really brought him in since then and said,
- 56:30Speaker 1: you know, you're gonna be our starter or competing for
- 56:32Speaker 1: a starter, and basically the league gave up on it.
- 56:34Speaker 1: So I want to say, Zach Wilson will get another shot. Yeah,
- 56:37Speaker 1: but maybe he won't, right because maybe it's been that
- 56:40Speaker 1: big of a disaster and with the stuff that you're
- 56:42Speaker 1: talking about, like the mental makeup, Right, does he have
- 56:46Speaker 1: what it takes to be an NFL quarterback? Not physically,
- 56:49Speaker 1: emotionally and mentally. Think about who was the guy that
- 56:52Speaker 1: broke down in front of his locker years ago? He's
- 56:55Speaker 1: now he's an analyst. Um Derek the other quarterback who
- 57:01Speaker 1: was highly touted. I think he was ran Leaf, Ryan Leaf. Yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 1: you know, like the league gave up on him, right, Yeah,
- 57:10Speaker 1: I mean I think he gave up on himself. There
- 57:12Speaker 1: were Yeah, there were other issues with Ryan Come. I
- 57:14Speaker 1: think he's turned his life around, Yeah, but you I mean,
- 57:16Speaker 1: he spent some time in prison, you know, had drug
- 57:18Speaker 1: problems a lot. There's a lot going on that I
- 57:21Speaker 1: don't think is necessarily Jermaine to Josh Rosen and Zach
- 57:25Speaker 1: Wilson want from Mexico. If Bill waited for O'Brien this year,
- 57:29Speaker 1: and that is why, that's the reason he went with
- 57:32Speaker 1: this crazy experiment with Maddy P. For me, it's just
- 57:35Speaker 1: making the decision even more stupid. You were waiting for
- 57:38Speaker 1: the coordinator to come, but you did not add more
- 57:40Speaker 1: coaches around to bring as much help for Maddy P. Instead,
- 57:44Speaker 1: you screwed with the development not only from MAC but
- 57:47Speaker 1: also the few standing players from last year. What do
- 57:50Speaker 1: you guys think? I mean, maybe Bill just didn't think
- 57:53Speaker 1: it was going to be this bad, you know, Yeah,
- 57:55Speaker 1: I'm sure he did. But if he did it for
- 57:57Speaker 1: that reason, I think it's worse. Yeah, Like I'm just
- 57:59Speaker 1: gonna a placeholder. I really don't like I could burn
- 58:02Speaker 1: a season at seven, right, right, Well, I didn't think
- 58:05Speaker 1: you'd think it was burning anyway. Evan's here and has done,
- 58:16Speaker 1: has done all right, Evan, what do we got? Not
- 58:25Speaker 1: great news? Oh jeezus, Oh not great news. He's the
- 58:28Speaker 1: opposite of back dad Bob So out of Patriots practice
- 58:32Speaker 1: today inside Gillette Stadium. Little change up for you. There
- 58:37Speaker 1: No DeVante Parker, Jalen Mills, Jack Jones, Johnny Smith, Yanni
- 58:43Speaker 1: could just and the biggest one Marcus Jones not out
- 58:47Speaker 1: at Patriots practice on a Wednesday. Now, wait, he plays this.
- 58:53Speaker 1: This is two thousand This is two thousand and four
- 58:56Speaker 1: against the Rams, Like, how did we do it? How
- 58:59Speaker 1: did we win that game? With Troy Brown, Pea Patrick
- 59:04Speaker 1: and of Vinetary throwing a touchdown? I will say this, okay,
- 59:09Speaker 1: if I'm just trying to be a little positive here, Okay,
- 59:14Speaker 1: we all spoke to Marcus Jones after the game on Sunday.
- 59:19Speaker 1: There was no inclination whatsoever that he was injured. So
- 59:23Speaker 1: maybe it's an illness. You know, it is that time
- 59:24Speaker 1: of year, right. I don't want to speculate anything, but
- 59:27Speaker 1: I just don't think that this was some major injury
- 59:31Speaker 1: that got that went unnoticed in post game, and he
- 59:34Speaker 1: went to the podium and did all you know, did
- 59:36Speaker 1: all these availability and then all of a sudden, now
- 59:39Speaker 1: he's had has some severe injury that he that popped
- 59:42Speaker 1: up out of nowhere. Okay, now, And it was a
- 59:45Speaker 1: regular practice, Like I mean, I'm sorry, I don't need
- 59:47Speaker 1: to step on I don't want I don't need to
- 59:51Speaker 1: play the hits as long as we get the infant.
- 59:53Speaker 1: But like I mean, you know, Pad's e practice. I know,
- 59:56Speaker 1: like maybe they might be out of pat you know whatever.
- 59:58Speaker 1: But like so it was a regular practice and all
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: those guys weren't there, so it's current like it was
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: like some kind of walkthrough that maybe they Okay, that's yeah.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Actually PATTED practice not great out there today, which is
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: pretty standard for Wednesdays. Yeah, I would say this is
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: our first real Wednesday in a long time. Yea, yeah, Wednesday,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: that's actually Wednesday. Yeah. In the stadium, it sounded like
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: there was some some unavailability with the practice fields for
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: whatever reason. Belichick was asked about it by mic Reas.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: He didn't want to get into the details, didn't want
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: to get into the deeds, but for some reason, the
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: practice fields weren't av Yeah, if they're not available because you're, like,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: you know, recovering from the frost or something. Why can't
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: he just say that want to get into it anyway,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Lots of guys, lots of key guys not at practice. Correct. Yeah,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the good news was said, could just man, he just
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: cannot ever be healthy? Like yeah, yeah. The good news
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: is is that although Johnny Smith wasn't there, Hunter Henry
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: was there and was participating, so they hopefully will at
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: least have a tight end that's not um Matt Sokol
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: because which is also bizarre because he was on the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: field for the last play of the game and then
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: goes on injured reserves. Someone said he got hurt on
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the last play of the game. I don't know if
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I just they liked him so much, they just want
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: to shut him down, make sure they keep him for
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: next year. So, Fred, you want to ask him about
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: the mood? Yeah, how was the mood? The food for
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: the team doesn't change. Yeah, I know everybody wants him
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: to come in, but I know, I know the people
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: that the outside the building want to make up this
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: narrative that the team has given up and that you know,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: they've let go the rope and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: The opposite the team here has it's practice right Like
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: they're out of practice, They're doing their thing. It's it's normal.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: You would never know that this team was coming off
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: of two losses and one kind of humiliating loss and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: the loss last like, you wouldn't know that just by
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: the vibe of the team. Okay, I've heard a lot
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: of they showed their toughness and their grits. I think
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: you're getting a lot of that from people that are
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: covering the team. Yes, But what I'm more talking about
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: is the talking heads that want to strum up controversy.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: So I'm going to be a talking head that wants
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: to strum up controversy. Okay. And I was waiting to
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: get the practice update because I wanted to see if
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: one individual was out there and he was no Boy
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Hunter Henry Yea who immediately after the game, I think
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport or within twenty four I was tweeted out
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: that he's got a knee injury. He's day to day.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: He got hurt like in the first third down of
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: the game, right for a knee injury that's day to day.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Didn't return anything there. Yeah, I don't know. Like John
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Smith got lit up right, he's in concussion protocol. I
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: don't think anybody's questioning his willingness to get back in
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: the field. And these are always dangerous And I say
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: this all the time, and I'm being unfair. Granted, I
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: know I'm being unfair, so you can make fun of
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: me for being unfair. I think missing a month with
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a groin, missing a month with a thigh, and you know,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: not being able to get back in the game with
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: something that you were back for the very next practice,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: those are questionable to me. Yeah, those are questionable to me. Yeah.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm ready to go there on
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Hunter Henry yet, but I think radar up on what's
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: going on with Damien Harrison, you know, is this is
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: this really something that's lingering or is he shutting? I
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: mean and Mills, those guys they just haven't been around.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: But I don't know. Yeah, Mills hasn't been out there.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Damien Harris has been practicing and not playing, which if
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: you're going to point to anybody, and on my pointing,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I hate pointing fingers, but me too. With Damien Harris,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: he is in a contract year he is about to
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: hit free agency, and for him is playing at at
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: sixty percent when he's not going to be himself? Is
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: that worth it? Hunter? Henry is under contract, so I
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: kind of look at that one a little bit different.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: But we'll see, yeah, yeah, hopefully we can go. Yeah.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: And when I when I bring it up, and again,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Evan's right, like, it's hard to question a guy when
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: you have no information and you're just sort of wild.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: This is felgren Mas at its worst, right. Um, So
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I'll admit that I'm being unfair. But I do wonder
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: if maybe some of the veteran guys, and I think
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Henry would qualify as the guy who's been around the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: league five, six, seven years now, Like, does he look
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: at it and say this team isn't going anywhere? I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: did hurt. I mean I'm not saying he invented a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: knee in journy. I mean I hurt my knee. Do
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I want to go out there and play on a
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: on a bum knee and then over the last you know,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: who knows, maybe I take another hit on the knee
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and then I'm out and then I have surgery and
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: it goes my off season for for what to what end?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: We're not going anywhere. That's what I wonder about with
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: with veteran kind of mentality. Grossly unfair. I just but
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: it has happened in the past with players. Um, you
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: see Kendrick Borne out there. I did what was his
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: mood depressed? Was he bouncing around? Always? Yeah? Typically, always
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: bouncing around, typical kV. Yeah, he's carrying a trade me
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: sign around with him and he was going in and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: out of drills. Yeah, he was bouncing around, he was
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: he was looking like himself. I believe it was Lynn
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Bowden who was sporting a seventeen scout team Jersey, so
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: he's Jalen Waddle this week. We didn't see an eleven
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: for for Tyree because I don't know who that's going
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: to be. But yeah, we did see Lynn Bowden in
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: in the seventeen practice Jersey and he limped from Mac. No, no,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: limp no limb No. Did you see a ten? Yeah,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: because that's uh Tyreek ten. I said eleven, Yeah, I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: meant ten. Yeah, Yeah, I just just mac Mac was
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: the only ten. All right, Um, we're gonna take a
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: break when we come back. More calls and emails here

- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Super Bowl appearance? Right? Right? I just I can't wear
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: my Mac Jones jersey to the grocery store without getting
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: yelled at. Yeah, well you shouldn't be doing that anywhere,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: according to Meg. Yeah, I just don't understand the embarrassment part.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: It's it's a pro sports team that you're root for.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: You want your team to win, right, do well if
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: they don't, you could be sad frustrated when you're actually
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: in the moment, when you're like seventeen and ruins your week,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: you know, when you're growing up? I think though, like
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: two though, like for a large portion of people, who
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: you root for on social media is like your entire identity, right,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you know, like back in the day, like you just
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: I like this team and you're not social media, you
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: didn't have to tell anybody. You might not even have
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: the jersey. Like I grew up, I love the Seahawks.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I don't know why. I grown up like large and
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: grown up, but I never like felt, you know, like
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: a fan like that. You know, I was embarrassed. I
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: don't know which just started. You got to ruin my
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: life like it used to. Like, yeah, probably the last
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: time I was like truly despondent over a loss was
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: one Blitzer when they lost the Super Bowl to Green Bay. Yeah,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: you know, and even then it wasn't I mean I was,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I was an adult, Like even then, it wasn't the same. Yeah,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: like that, even the Chicago one, Like I convinced myself
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: that we could bury the Bears and all that stuff,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: but you know, as soon as the game started, you
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: knew they weren't burying the Bears, right, three, I mean
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I had three I was to prepare myself for the inevitable. Yeah,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: like I you know, I was. I was in a
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: real bad place after Row seven. But I wasn't embarrassed.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: I was just depressed. I was, you know, that was
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: that was a depressing like trip home to Freddy's Point, Like,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: oh God, every way you looked, you just saw like
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: oh no one smiled Like it was that awful. It
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: was awful, you know. I mean I told the story before.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: We had a party a bunch of people. The game ended,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: I just like ceremoniously popped my two Patriots balloons that
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I had hanging from my TV and just retreated to
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: my quarters. It's like you won the lottery and you
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: lost the ticket, like you knew you won, and then
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: on the way there you lost the ticket. You don't
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: have to talk about it. It's okay. Yeah, it's as
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: bad as it can possibly get. Like there's no way
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: it worse. A loss could be worse. I mean, that's it,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: um Ron and Cambridge. Ever since Brady left, Deuce has
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: said something to the effect of I'm interested to see
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: what the greatest head coach of all time does to
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: build this team now that Brady's gone. And I can't
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: help but think that the Patriot existence post Brady has
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: been the furthest thing from interesting. I missed the old
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: days in shame on anybody whoever wished them away. Look
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: at you, Deuce. It's been bad. It hasn't been it
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: hasn't gone the way I was interested. I've been interested
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: to see how it was going. I mean, I think
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: it's high drama. I mean I don't think you know,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: maybe you don't love it if you're a Patriots fan,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: but if you're a sports fan, I think you eat
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: it up. And that's why the Patriots are relevant for
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: what they are still and I know, but look, I
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: didn't think it was gonna go this bad. I gotta
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: be honest. I'm with you, though I wanted to see
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: what was next to not because I wanted what was
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: going on to end, but I just knew eventually it
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: would end right, right right. So that's the difference between
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: you two. We needed to see the next and I
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: was excited to get a new quarterback in here and
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: hopefully had kind of start over right, And obviously it
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: hasn't gone exactly as planned. But I'm not necessarily not
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: with you on that, Like I'm with both the view
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: on that part of it. The difference is he wanted
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: to end the Brady error so that we could get
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: to the quote unquote interesting part because winning twelve games
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: every year was no longer interesting. Rats. That's my narrative now,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: that right there, that's my story, right, No, No, no,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: I I the way I like the way I Evan
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: explained it better than the way you do. And it's like, no,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: I knew it was going to end at some point,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: and I was excited to see what they were gonna do,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: how are they were gonna unfold? And I would agree
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: with that. Yeah, now I haven't been as excited about
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: what I've seen, But yeah, I was thinking a little
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: bit too about like like and this is probably gonna
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: send us off a cliff right now, But but what
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: what what should like compared to what other teams did
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: with great quarterbacks at the end um? You know, is
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: there is there another team? I was trying to think
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: of another team that that did it great? Like did
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: it perfect? I mean forty nine ers with going from
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: Montana to young you know, but but what should they
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: have done? Like you know what I mean, like like
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: was it over? The difference is not necessarily like it's
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: how is the guy playing? Like the difference is Brady
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: continue to play at an exceptionally high level? Oh yeah,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Like Dan Marino didn't, like you pull the plug on
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Dan Marino? He was done, but Montana went on Montana
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: was still okay, yeah, in one good season, right yeah,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: and he's kind of he was kind of done. I
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: agree that, Like, so what do you think that? What
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: do you think then? What do you think? What do
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: you think the Packers should be doing right now? Well?
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: Dan Love, Yeah, the Packers have a guy Jordan Love
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I think is on the third or fourth year of
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: his rookie contract already right, right, but you know, eventually,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: let's just say Rogers stay, they'd be in the same
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: situation the Patriots were with Garoppolo, correct, exact same situation,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: Like they're they're right on the line right now of
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: running that risk, right, wasting that first round pick, right
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: because they're kind of entering that territory. Now that's right
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: where you know, so they have a plan, but will
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Rogers the plan up? So then you know, and then
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: you had Peyton Manning hand tanks. Well, but Peyton Manning
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: got hurt, right, But I'm saying why they two and fourteen?
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: Then they tanked? That's the idea. Wasn't playing at a
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: high level, like if if Peyton Manning doesn't get hurt,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: they're not tanking that seat, right, but keeping Peyton Manning.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: But if the Patriots could have gotten the first overall
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: pick in the twenty twenty draft, yeah, very lucky. What
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: happened to the Colts was very very you know, it's
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: just it's just non it's such a complicated. I think
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: they did it exactly how they should have done it.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: They obviously not the decision to let Brady walk, But
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: once that had that ship had sailed. They took a
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: bridge year because they weren't going to get the quarterback
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: in that draft because of where they were picking. And
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: then they picked the quarterback when they were in the
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: top fifteen. Now they were at fifteen, and I think
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: that there are nitpicks there of should they have traded
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: up and been more aggressive and not just taking the
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: guy that fell into your lap at fifteen. Yeah, but
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: that's what I would argue is you can keep Brady
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: and okay, you you got Garoppolo. Okay, the time frame
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: didn't work. Get another guy, you know, in the first
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: or second round that you like. There had to be
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: somebody they liked, h Lamar. It's tough because when what
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: ended up happening was that in eighteen and nineteen there
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: was a run of quarterbacks at the top of the draft.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: You know that, I don't know the middle ground there
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: was not very great. Who was that guy that was
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: available that they missed at quarterback in that window? Well,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I mean, I don't have all the guys in front
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: of me. But no, in twenty twenty could have taken
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts. There were teams that went from There were
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: teams that went from like twenty seven into the top
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: ten to get stuts. You could have been one of those. Yeah,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: that's a difference, I think to a degree. Like if
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: you want to make the case that they should have
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: traded up the draft Justin Fields instead of just waiting
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: on Mac, I could hear that argument now. I think, granted,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: what it's become is I don't even know what kind
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: of system it's become now, but this isn't that they
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: wanted to run in. Where they were going to run
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: with McDaniels was certainly more tailored towards Mac Jones than
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: it was to Justin Fields. So I think that that's
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: an element of it too. But I meant more when
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: Brady was still here, Like I I know what you're
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: saying about Justin Fields, you know, just last year, but
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: yours is probably the best one. You could have sat
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: right where you were and taken Lamar Jackson, who I
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: think Josh really liked. Yeah, Brady, Brady would have lost
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: and Brady, yeah, he would have like exploded. Maybe it
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: would have spurred him onto another time. Mark, I mean,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I don't know. That was nineteen Yeah, nineteen nineteen, so
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: that draft would have been around the time No, Yeah,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: that draft would have been around the time that you
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: knew that Brady wasn't coming back. Yeah, I don't love
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: you're saying at the eighteen draft, I take it back,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: they took Michelle and win and and didn't take Lamar. Okay,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: y that never mind. I mean I still would have
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: done it, but it wouldn't have worked for my time
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: friend Market Clearwater. Of course, I'm one of the originals,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: PFW Nelson Smerless and mister original Fred. But seems like
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: you don't read emails anymore, and you have five exact
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: same callers every show, and they're not informative entertaining. Please
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: let's get back to being the Patriots Nation show and
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: break free from the same old, same old. After all,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: it's not like we have a team to watch winning
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: ps mac is and our guy you can't teach pocket
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: presents and he's way too much of a spoiled brat
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: to grow. Shout out to Paul my Everett brother in
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: all our street hockey days? Who is this? Marc Auger? Oh? Okay,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: how you doing, Mark Um? Not well? PFW Nelson Smerless
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: in the original Fred. Oh, that's like I think those
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: guys did little columns in the newspaper. I think that's
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: what he's referring to. Ok. Yeah, Steve Nelson Smerless did it.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I had Hannah do it. This is the initials in
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: the nineties. Yeah, what was the first issue of PFW.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: What was in that issue? And who was writing home anything? Like?
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: We had a few, right, we had a freelance to
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: freelance writers on game day that would write the game stuff.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: But anything during the week I wrote pretty much that
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: was so just you and a couple. I had a
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: couple of interns. Yeah. Yeah, and then first year just
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: just did the newspaper weekly. So anything that didn't have
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: a byeline in the newspaper I wrote. Yeah, I used
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: to do weekly picks with the spread and everything. The
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: pocket presence think or we go to that because I
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: just know what what am I not seeing? Like pocket presence? Yeah, Like,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: I don't know what that means first of all, because
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: I think everybody defines that differently for some reason. Are
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: we talking about pocket movement? Are we talking about sensing pressure?
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: Sensing pressure? Yes, Okay, I don't know. I don't see
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: him as a quarterback that doesn't sense pressure. Like to me,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: quarterbacks that don't sense pressure, turn into statues, get blindsided
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: by the rush and fumble right like that that those
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: are quarterbacks that don't sense pressure, don't feel pressure in
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: the pocket. And I don't see him doing that. Like
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of things that he does wrong.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. It's not like he's free of
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: blame here. But I keep hearing this pocket presence thing,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: and I just don't really know what people are seeing.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I think are in the same place right now where
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: we're like, we're not even talking about personnel this offseason
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: until we figure out the coaching situation, Like don't even
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: talk to me about your mock draft, don't even talk
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: to about agency, Like, just get a system in place
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: that people can be successful before we start. Oh yeah,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Barth is already talking to me about the draft and
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: he's doing his tend to watch in the college football
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: playoff this week, and I'm like, dude, none of this matters, Like,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: none of it matters until they have an offensive coordinator,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: if they draft Jordan Addison or they draft Josh Downs,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: or they draft Jackson Smith and Jigbu, like none of
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: it matters. Already ahead of me, Chris with a t
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I a n Hey Christian, Hey guys, what's happening? Paul
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: is left to go watch sports, very low level sports. Yeah.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Oh um, I'll tell you you guys have been scaring
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: me the past couple of weeks, in particular Deuce Um
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: when you talk when you're talking about them potentially running
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: it back with Maddie p Oh, that was passile thing
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: he just laid out this show. Yeah, and I and
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: you know, and Bill basically like talking Robert into saying,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: you know, I did Maddie p wrong. I'll get an
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: offensive line coach and hero take take you know, that
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: office plate. He'll focus on being a coordinator. He's got
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: a year under his spelt. You know, he'll be better. Yeah.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: And that scares the crap out of me. And the
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: question I have for you guys is, um, do you
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: have any idea if it's just Bill and Robert that
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: sit down? Is it? Is it Bill, Robert and Jonathan?
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: I think Jonathan's involved? Yeah, Yeah, I think Jonathan's involved.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: And I'll bet you know so. I don't know if
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: Matt grow is involved, but you know it's a possibility.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: Probably Cassario in the past might have been Yeah, Eli
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: or somebody. Yeah, but but it's a pretty small meeting,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: very small. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't think they're
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: interested in hearing what, you know, Patrician Patricia has to
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: say or Joe Judge. I think they want to hear it.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: They just want to know what Bill thinks primarily, and
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: you know, maybe Mac grow for the draft, but primarily
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. Yeah man, yeah, So I mean, I, you know,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: and I was really on the wagon of I just
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: want this season to end, and you know, I can't
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: wait for next year. And then I you know, I
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: kind of took a step back and I'm like, you know,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: if they do make a playoffs, great, they made the playoffs. Yeah,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: for me, it's great, an extra game. I'm a I'm
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: all for it. For it, I'm all for it. I
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: just like all these people, Oh, they shouldn't have the
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: playoffs because they don't deserve to be screw that, you know, Oh,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I don't they don't deserve it. If they have a
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: record where they earn a playoff birth, then how do
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: they not deserve it, Like, I don't understand what that means.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: They didn't get in with style points, right, Yeah. I
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: just think there's a big difference between beating Miami, even
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: with Teddy Bridgewater, beating Buffalo in Buffalo, which you know
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: is a tall task, and instead of beating Miami and
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: then losing the Buffalo and needing like seven permutations and
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: then you get in like like that or that one,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I'll be a little bit like all right, yeah, but hey,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: it's like the college basketball pitch game where you know,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: the Patriots need like eight things to happen, and it happens,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: and they show the Patriots at the facility crazy. I
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: don't think that's gonna happen twelve. I do. It's December
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: twenty eighth, Wednesday, December twenty eighth, and I'm gonna sit
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: here and just from everything that I've pieced together, I
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: guarantee you that the offensive coaching structure will be different
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: next year. Yeah, I guarantee it. I don't know if
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: it's going to be Bill O'Brien. I don't know if
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: it's going to be a wholesale change where O'Brien comes in,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: brings his whole own staff and everybody's out. I don't
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: know about that, but there will be like there will
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: be an adult in the room next year that knows
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: what he's doing. There's no chance they just run it back.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: You saying that it makes me makes me feel nice.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: But I think it's more a thing where it's not
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: like I think a lot of people will be like
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: fire maps a fire, Joe Judge, but you know, fire
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: everybody and then bring fire the fire. It's gonna be
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: a juggle, Like I think it's gonna be a juggle.
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: And I don't really think anybody's gonna get fired, but
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: some people are gonna get reassigned, and and I don't
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: think that that's necessarily the worst thing, but I just
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: I think I'm I'm all on board. If if you
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: need new map, Patrician goes back upstairs, that's a given.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: He'll be senior football advisor at Better. He'll advise the offense,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: and he'll he'll be up back upstairs. I think you know,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: to the we had an email earlier that said why
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: not just bring guys in like why the stop gap
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: year right and or the bridge year. I think a
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: big reason why you can't do that is because if
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: they then go ahead and hire Bill O'Brien and he
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: cleans house a year later, it's that's not a position
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: that these assistants want to be in right where you're
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: coming in to be on Matt Patricia's staff essentially, and
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: then in a year, you know you're you're you're out
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: of a job like that. That's not really a great
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: spot to be in. So I don't really think it
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: was a very desirable situation, either to be an offensive
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: line coach or a quarterbacks coach and be hired by
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: the Patriots. Right. Uh, let's see, Eldred's is North Carolina.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: He needs to ask Mike a question. What's your question?
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Eldred La, I want to answer this question. Question. Oh,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: you're gonna answer a questions about saying about Joe Montana
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: and Steve Yo. Yeah, I told you, I told you
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: when Brady left team. Normally, when with a great quarterback leave,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: it takes in the wheel from five three to five
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: ten years something longer. It ain't the coach, it's the quarterback.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: And I gave you example Joe Montana Steve Yo. They
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: had the same team. Took Steve on three years to
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl when they beat the Charges, same
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: king took him three years. Dallas atment they an't been
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: back sin Pitchburg. Uh. Bradshaw then my boy took him,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: Big Being took him twice, then me and back Sin.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Miami ain't been back Sin. You know, Buffalo Kelly ain't
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: made it there yet. He's so it's always the quarterback.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: It ain't just the coach, it's the quarterback. And I've
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: been different. That's why, you know, like I said, it's hard. Yeah,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: team here, we ain't got off as coordinator. So yeah,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: I mean, all that's true. I just I guess, I guess.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: My question is with twenty twenty hindsight and knowing everything
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: that you just laid out was completely true, you know,
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: just how you know, what would what would you have
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: done different? You know, how could you have approached this differently? Um?
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: You know so that it didn't I mean, and I
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: agree with your point, like it's it's really hard to
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: find quarterbacks. It's not like there's just an easy plan
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: you plug a guy in. But I just in retrospect,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: it was such a monumental thing that you knew what
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: was going to happen. You know, could how could you
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: might maybe have himpled it better? Yeah? Well, in a way,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Brady did welcome Lamar because you thought that was being Lamar.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: But we traded to the Ravens. Ravens got Lamar, Welcome,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Welcome Lamarca. He thought he gonna pick Lamar. I just
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: don't understand the timeline for Lamar, because I look, I
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: love Lamar. Lamar is probably my favorite quarterback in the league. Honestly,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: day they're both up there. I love Lamar, love them,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: loved him coming out, love them now. But Brady didn't
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: leave until after twenty nineteen, So that means that Lamar
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: is sitting on the bench for at least two seasons, right,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: So I just don't really understand the timeline of like
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: it's it's it's Jordan love right, you know. And at
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: the time, and look, I understand that we can have
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: a conversation about Sony and Isaiah Win and how good
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: those picks actually were, but those especially Sony, contributed directly
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: to winning a Super Bowl. Yeah, And and and we
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: heard that McDaniels really like Lamar Jackson. We don't know,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: but we heard that. But did Bill? The Bill was
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: Bill willing to do what did and totally revamp your offense.
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: That's the biggest As much as as much of a
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: terrific quarterback as he is. Greg Roman runs an offense
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: that only Lamar Jackson's right, that's right, and you have
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: to They hired Greg Roman because Roman worked with Kaepernick
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: and San Francisco in his college days. He ran a
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: read option offense, like that's his offense from the days
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: he's in college and in the pros. So they hired
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: Greg Roman knowing that he was going to be that
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: type of coach. Of course, Jim had Greg Roman in
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: San Francisco, so they had the Harbot connection and that's
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: how you get there. I just think it's it's still
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: an interesting debate because he's going to be a free agent.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I mean, and you know, everything event said, would I
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: meant redid their offense? So you know, if you're if
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: you're not going to stick with Lamar, does that mean
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: you know that you're gonna re jigger it means Greg
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Roman out. Are you all of a sudden not going
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: to get another Lamar to another you know kind offense.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: It's just an interesting position that they're in, which I
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: mean clearly it's I think they're going to have months.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I think I've absolutely blown away if he gets out
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: of the building. Yeah, David and Wisconsin. Last week, Paul
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: mentioned his first year working with the Patriots was Pete
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Carroll's last year, and it reminded me to ask this question.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Of course, I might be misremembering. I thought I read
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: in a PFW issue that Pete called in Paul and
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Mike Reese in his office and told them to more
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: or less do their jobs better covering the team. Did
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: this happen. I'm not sure that happened. He called me
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: into his office. It was after it was the first
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: year Pete was the coach and we were playing the Jets,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: and I think Glenn Foley from BC was their quarterback
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: and we lost and we rarely put like opposing player
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: on our cover. But after that game, I put Glenn
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Foley and I had Broadway foe because we just lost
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: to the Jets, and you know, like that's when the
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: Border War was like at at its height. And after that,
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: like I gotta call Piece, like you gotta come down here.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I gotta talk to you. And he's he's like, you
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: know how it is around here? How can you do this?
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: You know? And I'm like, he's from BC. We lost,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: you know, like but like I can understand him being
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: like Fred, I need your help man, though, because like
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: if there was one game he couldn't lose while coach.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: It was to the Jets. To parcels. Yeah, it's interesting
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: you had, I mean, you had what five six years
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: parcels at first oversee you know the McCarroll, but kind
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: of prepare you like in terms of content wise, like
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: you know, were you prepared when the Belichick shift came
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: that you know you kind of already knew not to
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: do something like that. Perhaps that that Belichick, but it
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: just seems like there's kind of like some parameters were
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: kind of established by the Bill got here that you knew, well,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: you knew you weren't getting any access, you know, so
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: because what do you mean, Parcels would be like I'm
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: in the said, I'm in the business of getting information,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: not giving it, you know. So, but he would do
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: it in a wise New Jersey wise guy type of way,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: you know. So it was entertaining for the median. They
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: would eat out of his lap, you know. Oh, the
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: old Guard media like the reverence that they have for
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Bill parcels and he would just treat them like dirt.
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: And yet they they just came back looking for more.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Few of those they talk about, Oh the fact that
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: he's not in the Patriots Hall of Fame is the
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: biggest disgrace to human time in their eyes, that you've
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: ever seen. Coach left it. He was that every year,
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: told the owner he didn't know if he wanted to
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: be here. Yeah, And then and then on the biggest
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: week of the franchise's history, arguably he's on the phone
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: more with the Jets than talking to his own coaches.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's like those are facts, you know,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: Like it's hard. Yes, he was a great coach and
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: he did a lot for the French blah blah blah,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: but it all it's a body of work and it's
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: a team hall of fame. And he kicked it off
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: to Desmond Howard, So like, how can we really put
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: and Reggie White when office? And they just left him
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: on the three year old year old Evans counting the table.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: What are we doing? Literally, you're just kicked it off
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: to the Heisman Trophy winner. Why don't you go ahead? Um,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: Mitch and albany h do you guys see a scenario
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: next year where the Patriots make Marcus Jones a full
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: time receiver. I know, I'm not sure how great of
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: a route runner he is, but I think I've seen
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: enough to say he's a big time playmaker with the
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: ball in his hands. If they sign a couple of
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: veteran corners in the off season, I think they should
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: switch him to offense full time. Not happening. I always
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: say that, like if you play cornerback, you play cornerback.
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: You don't go from corner to safety. But you can't
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: go from safety to corner. You don't go from defense
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: to offense. You know, you can't go from offensive deva.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: But if you were a good wide receiver, then you
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: were a good wide receiver in college too. There's a
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: reason why in college he was never a full time
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: wide receiver. He did it a little, but you know,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: I would just say this though, he's an electric player,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: and I would keep five to six plays every game
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: in the package. And if he ultimately just ends up
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: as a slot corner where he's not playing every down,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: then I think it all matches up. He's too good,
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: he's too explosive. They need guys like that. I don't
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: need to see him full time, but I think he can.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: I mean, wee we're seeing it now. We're the last
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: few games. Give him three to four plays. He can
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: make an impact even with just that limited workload. I
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: actually think that they've nailed it perfectly with his workload,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: where he is a gadget player on offense, right, Like,
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: he's not a receiver. Okay, he's not going to go
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: out there and run a route tree and break off
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: leverage and read out coverages and like all this stuff
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: that receivers do. But he's able to three to five
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: plays a game, come on the field like Devin Hester
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: used to do and make an impact. And that's great.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: And even if the impact is just disruption of the
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: defensive read, you know, like, Okay, he's out here, we
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: gotta pay attention to him, you know, to somebody, you know.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: That's fine, right, And I mean, and if this offensive
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: coaching staff can figure out way to get him involved
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: to make an impact, I mean, I'm sure that the
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: continuing going down the road, other offensive coaches will be able,
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: you know, to do the same. But he just I mean,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: he's too good. You need more players like that. You
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: need players that can pull away from from guys like
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: he can. I mean, the interception returned, diving, you know,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: jumping over guys, hurling players down the side. I mean,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: he's just a dynamic athlete. We need more guys like
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: when you see him play like you're to your point.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: We just haven't seen a dynamic athlete like that in
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: so long here that it is jarring, and it's like,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: so that's what it looks like. Right. When we talk
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: about game breaking speed, we're not talking about you know,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: no offense. We're not talking about Nelson Aghalore, right, We're
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: talking about that's game breaking speed right there, right, Travis
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: and West Virginia. I would like to concur with the
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: emailer who said there are a lot of repeat callers
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: who really don't bring a whole lot to the table.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: Eldred and Sweet Kid excluded. Also, Fred, it makes me
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: uncomfortable when you refer to Romandre Stevenson as Dre on
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: the blog. It's tantamount to you showing up with an
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: air ring tomorrow. It's just a place, it's bed. I
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: don't want to have to write out Ramondre every time,
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: you know, so I just say Dre, it's faster or
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: maybe God, yeah, I might as well just do the
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: row if I'm going to do, you know, I don't know.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I just sometimes I like to shorten it up, like
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: like I don't want to write Marcus Jones every time
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: because there's so many Jones, so I'll just write Marcus, right.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: You know, we struggle as writers different basis with the Jones. Right,
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: what are we supposed to do? Right? I had to
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: somebody email into me a couple of weeks ago teaching
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: me like how to spell out Jones is right, like
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: not like apostrophes, Like it's the e s at the
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: end of it over the playeral of Jones. You know,
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: what's the other one? Fred? I wonder. I don't know
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: if you've ever had this talk to some Patriot writers
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: that do this a lot accidentally, Patritos getting like you know,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: when you're tightening like Patritos Patritos. Yeah, i'd think we
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: would get like, you know, for all the for the
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: writers get like Patritos chirts like you know, it's just
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: something like Patritos. They got me again? Yeah? Absolutely. Dexter
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: in Santa Rosa, California, back during Ravens Week, Bill was
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: talking about Lamar Jackson during his media interview and he
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: says something out of the ordinary, quote, I can't wait
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: to see that contract. At the same at the time,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: we all collectively thought it was a slightly peculiar but
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: nothing more. But now that our offense truly sucks beyond
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: any doubt, I think Bill can't wait to see that
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: contract because that contract will have a Patriot's logo at
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: the top of the paper. Instead of going for a
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: true number one wide receiver, why not get a true
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: number one quarterback and sign Lamar and poach him from
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: the Ravens this offseason. Would the fans, Craft and Bill
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: be happy with Lamar signed for a max contract and
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: bring in a real coordinator one can dream. I also
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: hope we make it to the playoffs, so I'd rather
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: have a chance, even if our odds are about point zero,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: zero zero or two percent chance of winning the Super
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: Bowl this year. So you're saying there's a chance, I'm
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: I'm terrified of them being able to if if they
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: were to actually go out in Lamar, we're gonna actually
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: play out this Lamar situation. I'm just terrified of them
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: knowing what to do with the quarterback. Like you just said,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: the whole Greg Roman thing. I mean, that's what they'd
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: have to do. Maybe Bill O'Brien does because of Deshaun Watson,
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: but they're not really the same player like Lamar. You
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: they run you know, their go to plays counterbash, which
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: is a readoption counterplay with Lamar, and like it doesn't
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: you have to know how to design these types of plays, right,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: they have guys coming in motion, they have three tight
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: end packages, and you better have a guy like Mark
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: Andrews too, right, you know, because it's just and you
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: have to you know, you'd have to remake the whole.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: You really have to attack the middle of the field
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: in the passing game because he's not a great thrower
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: outside the numbers. So like that's why Mark Andrews is
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: so valuable to him, is because he wins in the
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: middle of the field. So like, you just have to
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: completely build out an entirely different offense. And I just
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: don't know if so just build buy himself a few
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: more years if he brings the Lamar's assens and takes
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: a while, I mean, you know, and I want to
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: go back to something real quick for it is you know,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I had to call her who said, you know, I'm
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: willing to watch losing seasons with Bill, like, like, this
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: is a whole other element. And I'm sure there are
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: plenty of fans out there that just want to give
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: Bill his due and let him walk, But the owners
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: of the franchise have to like keep interest up and
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: keep the energy up. And you know, as much as
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: it might sound nice to some people to just give
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Bill his due and let him, you know, do whatever
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: he wants over the last few years, like they gotta
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: sell tickets, like they have to, like, you know, and
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: a move like that, of course it's not gonna happen,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: but you know, something like that, that's well, that's what
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: gets everybody back on board. Maybe, like like if you
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: want a dream, it could be more realistic and say
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: like DeAndre Hopkins maybe like you know, it's a number
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: one receiver like that. I think that's far more realistic.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: I mean, if you're the Ravens, like, how do you
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: just let that guy walk out the door? I just don't.
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: Well you, I mean, like you said, you design your
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: whole offense around him. Like I think that's probably why
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: he's pushing his luck with it a little bit, because
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: it's like, what are you gonna do. You're gonna get
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: rid of me and then get rid of your whole
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: offense and get you know, and completely start over on offense.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: It's right. I think the Ravens value continuity a lot,
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: Nathan writes in catching up on all the content I
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: missed this past week. So I apologize that this has
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: already been brought up. But how much has this past
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: season changed your overall opinion of coach Belichick? If at all? Um,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: I think he I think he made a bad call.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I still think he's, you know,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: an outstanding coach. And you know I still want him. Yeah,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: I still you know, wanted to. I wish that, you know,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: you could continue to tap his experience and his knowledge,
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: and you know, I just I for me, like we
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: get into Patriots fans getting so worked up about everything,
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: you know, just but when I hear other people in
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: the NFL just talk in strictly football teams about Bill Belichick,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: just they get it, you know, Like like you can't
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: tell me that, oh, he's an idiot. He doesn't like
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: he is, Like I mean, at this point, he's a
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: living legend as far as the NFL is concerned. So
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: you know, I don't want that to be over. But
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: this was a bad year. This is a bad year,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: and I don't really blame that. I'm tired of having
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: the greatest coach for everyone. No, he's I mean, but
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: you know, but these he's look, he's he can make mistakes.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: I mean, it's a hard That's what I want. I
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: wanted to stay and I want him to admit I
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: gotta do something different, that's it. Yeah, I want him
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: to admit it. Yeah, And I this is exactly, this
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: is exactly what I was talking about to you guys
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: off the air. Maybe we need some accountability. Yeah, and
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: I think that maybe we get it. Maybe if we're lucky,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: we'll get it. After the season's officially over, right, And
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: usually that next day press conference he always goes back on,
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: well we just got off the field. Yes, right, guys,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: you know what are we talking about? But at some
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: point in time, and it could be that he never
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: actually comes out and says it, but they just hire
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien and I will speak louder than the words, right. Yeah. Also, Fred,
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: I remember earlier this season when you said you were
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: feeling bullish about the offense. How times have changed. This
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: isn't criticism. I completely bought into your theory back then.
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: I was wrong. In the beginning of the season. I
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: was more worried about the defense. In the offense, I
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: felt they had the tools on offense to be good,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: not great good. And I was worried about the defense
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: because you know, you lost J. C. Jackson, who was
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: going to emerge, you know, ouch, we didn't know what
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: we're gonna get out of him. We didn't know. We
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: didn't know if Judon, if the fade was real, if
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: you know, how he was gonna you know, so there
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: were to me, there were a lot more questions going
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: in on defense. You know, on offense, I was excited
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: about having Parker. I thought he was only going to
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: make the offense better Mac Jones in his second year,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: and I was wrong. You know, flip it, it's the opposite. Now.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: The defense is the only reason you're competitive, Yeah, you know.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: And also you know, throw in the opponents that we
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: were looking at, and I mean we're in at the
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: tail end of this gauntlet that they've been going through
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: where every week it's another top receiver. I mean, I
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: was with you, Fred, and I think you know we
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: all agree. I still think the offense is better than
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: it's showing up talent. I think they're underperforming absolutely. You know,
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: the attention to detail on offenses what bugs me the
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: most since not only is it from a situational standpoint,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: like knowing the play when they checked to a screen
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: on a blitz by, also like the route running that
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I've been talking about a lot, spacing, the actual technique
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: of the route like put I got into it yesterday
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: on Twitter about the stupid play action pass and I
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: wish I've been I've been trying to walk away more
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: this season, and I got into it with everybody on
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: it and they're like, he's late, He's late to the throw,
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: and it's like, that's because when Jacoby Myers comes off
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: the line, he gives a little hop step, then he
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: gives like six head fakes, and then he decides to
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: actually break on the route. Like the amount of time
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: it takes for these guys to actually get into the
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: route and declare if they're breaking inside or out based
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: off of the option that they have is it's the
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: timing of the whole thing is such a major issue.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: And that, to me is why I'm disappointed in Belichick
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: is because that type of quality control stuff, I thought
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: he would have his fingerprints on. Right. So, okay, maybe
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: you know a wide receiving core of DeVante Parker and
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers and born in Agalore and the two times
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: maybe that's not an elite passing attack, and maybe Max's
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: not an elite quarterback, but everything would be buttoned up right,
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: and it's so far from buttoned up that now they're
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: they're underperforming right this group. Yes, And that's I'd tie
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: that to the last question too, which is that the
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: thing that's distressed distressing about this all is you know,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: just the things that you've come to believe about a
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: Bill Belichick coach team that they're you know, not going
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: to take a bunch of prestap stupid penalties, that they
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: are going to be hammering down on the details that
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: you know, those are the things that they're going to
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: do to overcome the talent gap. But you know, I
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: think going in the season, you know, Fred and I
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: were like, well, I mean, if you if you're able
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: to tap down in the cornerback depth and you've got
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: you know, Jacobe Meyers lined up against their number three
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: or then before like you know, you got Hunter Henry
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: and he started like you know, you felt like you
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: had some options that you could at least play with
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: even without that big number one fret those matchups and
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: the other thing I was wrong on And I honestly
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: thought that having Judge in Patricia on offense wasn't a
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: bad thing. That they would be okay, you know, because
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: they had that overall experience seeing a team from the
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: highest level, and they take that experience to you know,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: their new jobs. And you know, I don't know how
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: good a job Joe Judge is doing, honestly, Like how
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: do you even know? But like you know, Mac isn't
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: doing well, so then he's the quarterback coach. Ergo, he
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: must not be, you know, so like it's hard to tell.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: But I was wrong there too, you know, just going
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: back to training camp with Joe Judge because I think
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: it's an interesting question of how involved is he and
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: how much should we blame him for what's going on.
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: But remember out at camp, they because Matt Patricia was
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: working with the offensive line so much, it did seem
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: like that Joe Judge was kind of the passing game
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: coordinator for a period of time there. And then we
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: were just out at practice just now and they allowed
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: us to watch just a little bit of extra practice
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: and Joe Judge was working with the quarterbacks and receivers,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: and Matt Patricia was on the other side with the
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: offensive lineman, so I think from it now, they were
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: throwing against air, so it's not like they're actually getting
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: into real offense at that point. But it is interesting
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: that the guy coaching up the little details of what's
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: going on from a from a passing games standpoint was
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Joe Judge, It wasn't Matt Patricia, right, Bob writes, and
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: has Bill ever replaced a coordinator before the coordinator left
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: on their own. It seems that nobody has ever been
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: fired or released, only leaving for a head coaching gig.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: That's the case, then we're going to watch Patricia's send
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: in plays for a long time. No team's going to
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: be knocking on his door for a head coaching job
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: anytime soon. All we can do is put faith into
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Bill's decisions and hopefully they work out like they mostly do. Um.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: I'm not sure Hessey ever, Yeah, Dave Googs, but the
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: offensive line coach. You've only had two offensive coordinators three sorry,
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: three offensive coordinators in twenty years, and defensive corners three two.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: I think what Cornell Demps and Dean Pace is the
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: other guys four. Sorry for DMP's just kind of disappeared. Yeah, honestly,
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: they still but has gone on to coach. No, he's
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: a good coach. I'm just saying, right, I don't think
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: that the word firing never leaves this building, right, Like,
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: you're never going to hear a report of like so
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: and so got fired by Bill Belichick because they're very
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: careful about how they word it. But Dean Peace just
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: faded into dust right after twelve, after the twelve eleven
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: or twelve. Yeah, and he goes to m Ravens, right
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: the Ravens and then and then subsequently beat us and
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: and Patricia takes over the defense at that point. So
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: they've definitely it hasn't been a ton, but they've definitely
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: had guys that have just you know, Googs was probably
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: the best example of somebody that was truly fired after
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: that season, and it was also because Dante came back.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: So yeah, I remember seeing Googs. That was like probably
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: the last game of the season. We're in Miami and
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: I'm walking down the street and he's like in front
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: of this restaurant with some people. I'm like, hey, Googs,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: I'll see you next year. He goes, I don't know,
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: so he knew the writing was on the wall, knew
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: was on the wall. He was a good guy, though,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: um Tony writes in um, so maybe it's time for
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: coach to make new friends, bringing outsiders instead of grooming
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: guys who are gophers, taking him to the airport, getting coffee,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: breaking down film, then unpaid assistance, then assistance to the
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: assistant regional manager and office reference, then assistant coach then
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Yeah, I mean there is something to
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: be said, Like, you know, when you get into the
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: psyche of who Bill Belichick is, you know his his
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: you know what makes him in what he thinks he
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: looks for in other people. I think a lot of
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: it is he the way he rose up, is the
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: way he likes other people that rose up. You know,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: he famously talks about making twenty five dollars a week
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: and sleeping on the floor in Baltimore, you know when
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: he worked for the Colts, and you know, like he
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: wants other people to kind of go through those steps
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: as well. It seems, you know, he likes that where
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: you start as low level and you kind of learn
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: a lot. You don't just learn one thing about the team.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: You learn a lot of things and then eventually you're
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: given a position. I think out where Barbelio was before this,
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: but I mean he he would have been kind of
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: around a little bit. I mean still kind of came
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: in as like an offensive. He came in and they
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: wouldn't give him a He didn't get the title right away,
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: you know, um, yeah, that was there. There have been
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: cases where they always just like this, like twenty three
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: year old kid right out of school that you graduates, Yeah,
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: like it's it's you still find something googly elbows one
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: of those examples, and then they didn't. I just think
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: that O'Brien to me, and that's why I love it
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: so much. As for them, is because he's not a pushover. Right,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. He's not a yes man, just because
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: he's got ties to Bill and he's got options to
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: go anywhere that he wants. Not anywhere, but a lot
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: of places that he would want to go. So if
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Bill's telling him to do one thing and he doesn't
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: want to do it, he doesn't have to be here,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: ye right. And the second thing I would just say is,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: you know, I just want Bill to take an approach
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: that Nick Saban has taken in recent years where he
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: knows he's defense, right, Like, Nick Saban knows that his
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: strength is on the defensive side of the ball. So
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: on offense, he's getting name brand coordinators. He's not messing around, right.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: He goes from Lane Kiffin to Sarkisian to Bill O'Brien,
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: and he's getting guys that are basically head coaches of
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: your offense, right like, and that's what Josh was when
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: he was here. So I don't think it necessarily needs
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: to be branching out from the tree, so to speak.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: He just needs to get somebody that has that type
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: of metal. Yeah, he's a filth head coach too. We
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: love those, yeah, sure. M Pat will end the show
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: with Patrick pat an Agawam's email us. It's in response
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: to Mark's caller on caller crime. He says, with all
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: due respect to Mark and the email are making a

- 1:57:45Speaker 1: asses and call in. Oh and make sure you're interesting,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: all right, So there you go. I love our call. Yeah,
